Dual Monitors, dual Taskbars?

Question: Dual Monitors, dual Taskbars?

I now have two monitors set up on my computer. One is using the VGA output, and the other is plugged into a DVI to VGA convertor in the DVI port. I have a Radeon 9600 Pro video card and am running Windows XP Home.

What I want is to extend my taskbar across onto the second monitor. Even better than that would be to have a second, independant taskbar which displays only programs open on the second screen. The first screen's taskbar would show programs open and displayed on the first monitor.

Any ideas?

Preferred Solution: Dual Monitors, dual Taskbars?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Dual Monitors, dual Taskbars?

Guess what I found?

Exactly what I was looking for

Actually, not exactly. I was hoping for a native Windows solution that doesn't require running another program to get the second taskbar.

I'll clarify my question: Is there a way to get a second taskbar on a second monitor using options or features found in Windows XP? Failing that, does anyone have any favourite programs they'd like to suggest?

I tried searching for info on the forum, but I guess it doesn't like Pale Moon as I got no (0) results for several queries.

At TAFE, several rooms have dual monitor PCs set up with W10 (b10240) installed.
There is one decent monitor and one small monitor.

Each monitor has a Taskbar showing.
However when I change the "Taskbar buttons:" option to "Combine when taskbar is full", only the #1 monitor actually changes to that setting.

The #2 monitor retains the awful "Always combine, hide labels" view.
If I check the Taskbar Properties (on the #2 monitor) it shows that it is set to "Combine when taskbar is full".

As I use a W10IP VM and only have one monitor, can someone tell me how I can make both Taskbars display the same way?

Answer:Configure Taskbars on Dual Monitors

Notice one shows cortana and the other one doesn't, especially the one on the extended monitor. I ended up turning off the start menu to the second display. I don't know why 2 taskbars are needed.

Having just upgraded from XP using the Nvidia dual monitor desktops for years, I was surprised to find Windows 7 has this feature in-built with the added bonus of slideshow desktop images C00L!
So beyond Win7 eye candy which is better, Does it come down to games running faster under the Nvidia dual desktops, what is the general preference here?

Answer:Is Nvidia dual monitors a poor cousin to Windows 7 dual monitors?..

afaik, there is no real performance difference, as all stuff is handled by the nvidia driver anyway.

And of course the more monitors the higher performance hit as there is more screen surface to work on (the same as increasing resolution).

Btw, the main pityfall of the multiple monitors is that the taskbar is only in the primary monitor, but there are a ton of good third party programs that can handle this, like Actual Multiple Monitors.

This is NOT free, it costs about 40$ but it is the best one I know of;

There are other tools of this nature, like

but the good ones all cost money.

So I just ordered an 8800gts to replace my 7800gts in Vista x64. I was wondering if keeping it and running my secondary monitor off of it would alleviate the stress aero puts on the video card when running dual monitors and gaming and increase my performance. Would I be better off keeping the 7800gts for the second monitor? Is this even possible?

Answer:Dual Video cards, dual monitors, and Vista game performance

It is certainly possible, you can use both cards at the same time, assuming your mob supports it.

I doubt if you'll see a huge increase in gaming performance, as aero essentially shuts itself off when needed (gaming), but it won't hurt anything either.

i have 2 ati radeon hd 4850's. right now they are connected with the crossfirex bridges and i'm only using one monitor and running crossfirex. i'm thinking of getting a second monitor for better gaming/seeing more stuff in flight sim X.

what i can't find is how to use 2 monitors with 2 cards. do i remove the crossfirex bridges and connect one monitor per card, or do i keep the crossfirex bridges and connect both monitors to the first card, still running crossfirex?

thanks!

Answer:dual graphics cards, dual monitors, ati crossfireX

I would just connect the 2 monitors to the one card and then extend the desktop using either desktop properties or Catalyst control center.

Can anyone please tell me how to set up another monitor to work with my laptop computer? I've made a little progress, HOWEVER...

I would then like to open my Excel Workbook that has 2 sheets. One sheet is constant data input into various columns using my laptop. In the second sheet, I have formulas which constantly updates the data within a formatted table that I would like displayed onto the external monitor.

My project is to hook the laptop monitor into an overhead flat screen tv using HDMI cable. Then, while sitting in a corner with my laptop entering data, the results would be constantly updated for the audience to see.

Thanks...

Answer:dual monitors / dual programs set up

Hello dunna, welcome to Sevenforums

With a laptop, (assuming you have an HDMI port), it shouldn't be too difficult. However, laptops are different. For example, mine, you plug in the secondary monitor, and there is a function key (Fn) that you press, and the corresponding key to change the output mode (for me, it is F1). It should let you choose how you want to display to the monitor. Test it out yourself to see, but if you can't find it, let us know. It helps if you provide the laptop type, so we can tell you the keys exactly

Hi,My setup includes dual monitors with a T61 in port replicator  and a Dell 24" monitor positioned above.  While I can achieve this setup by manually dragging the external monitor above the laptop each time I dock, I cannot get the Presentation Director to capture this position accurately.  It will capture the setup, but reverts to horizontal monitors with left/right mouse whenever the captured profile is used.   [With my old T43 in the same setup, I was able to get the monitor positions memorized correctly. ] Does anyone have a solution?  I've checked the Control Panel--> Display settings and the NVIDIA Control panel.  The control panel allows me to set up the external monitor as per above, but I haven't found any control to ensure the settings "stick".

Answer:Dual Monitors / Cannot capture vertical monitors (mouse up /down vs left /right)

Additional Note:  I've also tried creating a new profile in the Presentation Director with the selection for "External Monitor positioned above laptop", but that does not work as it will not recognize the external monitor resolution of 1900x1280, and thus will not allow me to finish the profile.

Hi there guys and girls,

I just have a quick question that I'm looking for an answer for.

I've recently been given a shiny new video card, which is awesome as I've only ever had onboard video on this PC. It's a Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB. I realise it's not the greatest video card in the world (just because I can't afford to buy one doesn't mean I don't know what's good ), but it's free, and I rarely turn down free things.

Anyway, on to the point.

As some of you may know, the Radeon 9800 has 3 ports. VGA, TV, and DVI. I wish to set up a dual monitor system, but all the monitors I have sitting around are analog (VGA). I thought, no problem, I have a VGA port on my motherboard, and I can use the one on the video card.

Alas, I've been playing around for a few hours, and I couldn't seem to find a way to do it. So I do what I usually do when I need an answer. I hit google. Found tons of dual monitor tutorials and faqs, but none of them mentioned anything about onboard.

My question is as follows:

Is it at all possible (even if it requires some slight hacking) to set up a dual monitor system using one VGA port on the video card and one on the motherboard?

If not, is there a VGA to TV or DVI adaptor I'm able to get? If so where, and at what price (I'm in Australia ). Or can you think of any other way I can do this cheaply? .

Or does anyone have a spare VGA-DVI adaptor or video card sit... Read more

Answer:Dual monitors with 1 dual video card and onboard video

Well AFAIK you can't dual-monitor with and I/O card and onboard video. Its one or the other. However I know you can get DVI-to-VGA adapters. Those might work for you so long as the card supports dual-monitor (no time to check right now).

I have an ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 9600 video card. It's been working properly for quite awhile and now suddenly the cursor moves to the second monitor when I drag the cursor beyond the bottom of the first monitor.

It used to go from one monitor to the other by dragging it from left-to-right. I can't figure out what caused it to start doing this or how to go about getting it back to the way it was before. Any ideas how to change it back. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you!

Answer:Dual Monitors - cursor changes monitors vertically instead of horizontally

Hi! I just upgraded to Win8 this weekend and so far I really like it. I discovered something this morning that now that the weekend is over is bugging the crap out of me and I need help. I work from home and use this alot so it would be helpful.

I am trying to do a couple things I could easily do in 7,
- have Chrome open in both monitors at once with different things on them.
- currently Chrome has no minimize/maximize buttons on the upper right like it used to. Makes it very hard to multitask.

I have 2 monitors, the main is a 23" touch screen and the second is an 18" non-touch screen.

Also, is there a way to have the taskbar to appear at the bottom always like it used to?

Thanks! I really appreciate the help!

Answer:Windows 8 Dual Monitors, need help having browser open in both monitors

Answered my own question. Google Chrome was showing in App mode. When I downloaded Chrome for 8 there is an option to have it show in desktop mode and the taskbar, minimize/maximize, and multi window option came back. YAY.

Now if someone could tell me why windows 8 won't fill the screen at the resolution recommended for my 23" monitor I'd be good!

Greetings all.

I'm having a slight problem figuring this one out. I shouldn't, but this problem is kicking my rear. I've got two AOC monitors set up for a client, yet they don't actually portray a "stretched desktop" over the two monitors. It Displays one "widescreen image of my desktop on the right monitor, and what looks like a fullscreen image on the left. I've gone through the usual setup for dual monitors...

Change Display Settings ->
Select 2 in the monitor selection screen ->
Select "Extend" in the other option menu.

I've tried "Windows + P" and tried it that way too.

I've made sure they're the same resolution and an display hertz are the same. I hope to the Gods that this is an easy fix and one of you will have a quick solution for me, but I've gone over all my specs and I just can NOT figure it out. Its usually an easy setup, but for some reason, I'm stumped.

Answer:Dual Monitors not so dual

Are they the same model AOC monitors? How are you connecting the monitors...what type of cables? Are you connecting them both to the mobo or to a gpu or one to each?

..Hey gang..built my daughter a system for Xmas which is not going to be 100% I guess, but close..I built a dual-hard drive system one for the kids and one for her to do graphics work..I installed a spinner sata with Win 7 for kids and an SSD with Win 8.1 for her..installed 7 first and then 8 and things were fine, Win 8 would give me a nice screen asking me which OS I wanted to boot to.. but then the spinner started blue screening and grinding so I changed the hd and of course it screwed my boot up and I don't know alot about mbr's and that kind of thing but downloaded EasyBCD and was able to fumble my way through it to luckily get Win 8 back but here's my problem..When I shut down in Win 7 everything is fine as when I start it up I get a bios like screen asking me which OS I want to boot to..but when I shut down in Win 8 it automatically boots back to Win 8 without asking...I have to "restart" to get to the OS choice screen..I don't want to go messing around much further here without some direction as googling my way around miraculously saved me the first time but this problem is a little too convoluted to try and research on my own...Any suggestions greatly appreciated..merry xmas all!

Setup: Dell Monitor as primary, Sharp 32" TV as secondary monitor.
When I move VLC over to the TV and click the maximize button, it maximizes on my dell monitor.

The only workaround I've found so far is setting VLC to minimal view, then toggling fullscreen on.

If I do a VLC playlist and it switches tracks, it toggles off fullscreen mode, so I have to get up... plus I'd rather click one button to make it work instead of doing that workaround.

A guy at work said he noticed the same thing, and has not found a better solution...

Any idea how to make this work?

Question: Dual Monitors

Hello - I am beginner kind of PC guy, and am trying to work something out for my Wife. Her work will let her do some work from home, but in order to do so, we need DUal Monitors like she has at work. Her Work IT guy said to plug one into the VGA and the other into the DVI...But I don't have a DVI port...I only have the standard VGA port (which our regular monitor is plugged into) and an S-Video port...

My question is, can I do Dual Monitors using the s-video? Do they make a S-video to VGA convertor? I have an HP, about a year old...A friend said i need to get a new Video card and install it, but I am not to keen on cracking open the PC myself, or paying someone to do it unlesss it is the only option...

Can anyone help me out with some advice? The goal is to have 2 workspaces, so splitting the single VGA won't help??

It might be possible to create an autoit program to do this.
It would require a lot of skill and computer knowledge patiance and willing to learn some programing if your up for it. see this link. AutoIt 3.0
THe easiest way is to set it up to simulate mouse clicks and keystrokes. You use note pad to write the script and save it as .au3
A list of functions can be found here Functions
You can also use a nifty little gadget included called AutoIt Window Info which provides you with details about the enviroment your working in.

Other than that i dont know of any other programs

Can someone give me an easy step by step for setting up dual monitors?

Answer:Dual Monitors

Plug in your second monitor and enjoy.

It varies depending on what video card you have. ATI tells us nothing. If it has two ports, you should be able to plug in a second monitor, and have it clone. From there, you need to open the settings and set it to extend not clone. Since I am not familiar with ATI cards, and each one varies, we cannot tell you exactly.

I will bet it will work if you just plug it in though.

Question: dual monitors

Ok...I have a Radeon 9600XT with the vga and dvi out. What i want to do is hook my regular monitor up to the vga out and hook my big screen HDTV up to my DVI out. My tv has a dvi in as well so no need for adapters, just a straight up dvi-d cable. Most of the time i will just be using my regular monitor, but every now and again i would like to switch to the tv on command. So i got it all hooked up, but it seems like both displays are being picked up as primary monitors/displays which causes problems because i need the tv at a lower resolution than my regular monitor and if i switch in between the two all my display settings are the same for both. I want to be able to set it where the display settings stay unique to each of the displays. Is this possible? I have all the latest ATI drivers and it seems possible to me, but i've been just having a tough time with it. If anyone could please walk me through this it would greatly be appreciated. Or should I say "dueling monitors". They seem to be competing. The problem is the screen resolution on the 32" flat screen TV. I can't get it to cover the whole screen. I had a similar set-up with a 22" monitor and a 40" TV and every thing was fine. Now I have a new set-up, a 22" monitor and a 32" TV. I went into the control panel, adjust screen resolution and tried to get it set up but it's not working. I have tried it in "Extend these displays" which shows a different resolution for each monitor but the TV still doesn't have the screen filled. I tried in "Duplicate these displays" and it's the same thing. I can understand it wouldn't work in this mode because it shows only one resolution. My video card is a XFX1-PL. I have the monitor hooked up by DVI and the TV by HDMI, that's how my other set up was too. I think I might have had the same video card.

Answer:Dual Monitors

Not sure on the card, but if you install a second Video card in a Win2k or XP box, you have Dual desktops right away. Only problem is that the second card has to be PCI so there is some lose there. One the Card, unless otherwise noted, you will get the same desktop twice. If you can find a reference for Dual diplays, then you should be able to have two independent screens. I didn't think that Nvidia did that, but then I have been found wrong a few times...
ATI cards have this ability in the Radeon Line of cards. The only problem I have found is when gaming, you have to reduce to one display cause it takes too much power from the GPU.
Hope this helps...

During my days work, I am planning to use one monitor, for example running MS Excel as a database and the other MS Word.

If I am using my only keyboard for Excel how can I switch to Word and start typing in Word?

Would it be just a simple question of moving my mouse over to the other program and type?

Question: dual monitors

I have the X61 notebook with an Ultrabase.  Each device has its own VGA port.  Can I connect an external monitor to each port and manipulate the output?

Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:dual monitors

Unfortunately not.  When docked the VGA port on the X61 will be disabled and the output sent to the dock's VGA Port.  One possible solution for you would be the USB to DVI Adapter from Lenovo, details can be found here.

Question: Dual monitors

I have two monitor outputs on my video card. One is SVGA and one is digital. Can I use two monitors to view different images or will both display the same image? I read that one monitor can display a page and the second monitor can display the next page.

Answer:Dual monitors

If their off the same card then they will have the same image. Just different types. You can add a second monitor if your MOBO has onboard video, it just has to be designated the 2nd monitor.

If you don't plan on using the second monitor for

you could use a USB video adapter.

Answer:Help with dual monitors

I was looking at the Vista help files and it says to use the keyboard shortcut that turns on monitors to get to the New Display Detected dialogue box to set up the undetected display. I guess you'll have to figure out what that is. It say that FN + F5 combination typically works on mobile pcs. You might give that a try.

Are you plugging into a graphics card? Does anything at all happen when you plug in the monitor, e.g., does Windows tell you it doesn't recognize the device.

Question: dual monitors?

im just wondering about this iver heard of ppl doing it and im wondering how its done.

.:thx:.

Answer:dual monitors?

I just did this to my own setup. First, you need to check and see if your video card is compatible. If you are using any newer model NviDia or ATI card, then it should be. Second, you need to get a hold of a VGA to DVI adapter. You will plug your primary monitor into your VGA slot and your secondary one into your DVI slot. Plug in your second monitor, then go to Display Properties, click settings and then select your secondary graphics adapter. Then, check the box next to "extend desktop onto this monitor," click OK, and whalah.

The issue is mainly in Adobe Lightroom. but have had display issues in Bluebeam Revu and Photoshop
The Map & Web modules do not display correctly, see attached picture (Lightroom-Map Module) as you can see the map should be in the center of the module. See below
If you drag Lightroom from one monitor to the other I also get display issues?

If I right click a photo in lightroom and select edit in photoshop I also get display issues in Photoshop (Note: Photoshop is not running when I selected edit in photoshop). See the attached picture (Edit in Photoshop) below. If Photoshop is running it is not an issue?

In Lightroom under the performance tab, I am not using the Graphics Processor. If I do enable the GPU I get issues.

Question: Dual Monitors....

Hello all, first post here!

I have finally got my dual monitor setup and am loving it...

Did some research online here and got myself UltraMon for some customization, but there is still ONE thing I would like to get, something like a virtual kvm switch. Whereas I could hit a Hotkey and change the keyboard and mouse inputs between the screens. I wouldnt mind if it caused the mouse not to switch normally between the screens.

My main reason for looking for this is I am a gamer and would like to be able to stay in a game while browsing the web or IMing in the other screen and not be kicked out and have to Alt+Tab back in :(

Thank you :)

So I have been trying to get this specific setup working lately but i'm somewhat at a loss.
I have 2 monitors on my computer right now, everything normal is working okay but my what I am having trouble with is, Is there a way I can make it so while they both display different things, let's say I am in a full screen game, and talking to someone on an instant messanger via second monitor, I can move my mouse freely on the second monitor click/type without the full screen application minimizing?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have the setting for dull-view that should work.

I just bought a new TV and hooked it up to my Acer Aspire X1200 Desktop PC via HDMI Cable (HDMI from PC to HMDI TV input).

Every time I drag something over to the TV, (e.g. a Video)... the TV Picture works OK but I lose all the desktop icons on the PC Monitor and get an error report (one of which I sent for analysis).

In order to get the icons back, I have to reboot the computer and usually the icons are reconfigured in a cluster....i do not have 'align to grid' selected (Lucky I have a little Gismo which will reset the desktop items to my previously configured favourite layout).......

I have a VGA to HDMI Converter but did not use that yet because I am waiting for a splitter for the VGA Cable which will boost the signal to both monitors (and I believe would simply duplicate my desk top anyway).

If I could simply use the TV as an extension Monitor without all the problems after I have dragged something over to that screen, then I would not even have to use a converter or a VGA splitter.

Any ideas as to why my Desktop Monitor goes 'skewiff' after I push something out to the extension monitor?

Answer:Dual Monitors W7 x64

One monitor with VGA connection and one with HDMI, both of the same graphics card (which from the Acer Aspire X1200 I am assuming is the integrated NVIDIA GeForce 8200).

If you press the (Windows Key + P) together, holding down the Windows key, is the option Extend selected? If not, can you select it please (still holding down the Windows key, press P a couple of times until Extend is selected).

How have you setup the two monitors, their resolution mainly but anything else?

Yes, a VGA splitter will only duplicate the output, you will see the same image on both monitors.

Question: Dual Monitors...??

Hey everyone, got a quick curious question here.

I am fascinated by the idea of having dual monitors on my desk. I really want the extra workspace. However, I have a few uncertainties about how it works.

I know the obvious thing: dual monitors give you more workspace on your desktop.

Is it just like an extended desktop where you drag things over to the other monitor for more workspace? In what way is the extra desktop workspace achieved?

Of course I would not come asking without doing my own research...
Several Google results and many pictures are all I have at the moment, which still does not tell me much about the details i seek.

From HERE it states that:

the "exended" or "independent displays" mode and the "spanning" or "streched" display mode. In both these modes, display devices are positioned next to each other in order to create the illusion that the two displays are logically contiguous.Click to expand...

Which basically means the monitors are side-by-side, which is what I want. It then explains more about different ways of using two monitors:

In "extended" mode additional desktop area is created on additional monitors. Each monitor can use different settings (resolution, color, refresh rate).

Alternately, some video cards are able to "span" the existing desktop area across two monitors rather than create additional desktop space. This is accomplished by using a widescreen res... Read more

Answer:Dual Monitors...??

There are basically 3 ways that things can happen, and it may vary on what they are called by the brand of the video chipset.

You can have them be exactly the same, meaning everything you see on monitor 1 is also identically displayed on monitor 2. This is pretty worthless unless you are doing color comparisons between the 2.

Another way is to have a HUGE start bar which spans over both screens, you can drag between 1 screen and the other, its effectively 1 big monitor. This way is better than the first one for obvious reasons, but its still not very good. Messages boxes often pop up right in the middle, so its split between 2 monitors not much good.

The 3rd way is to have 1 monitor be the primary and will house the start bar, then the second monitor is just an extention, but behaves independently. You can still drag windows between both. This is in my opinion the ideal setup.

Try not to make this more complex than necessary, its a pretty simple set of senarios.

Edit: Here is a shot of how mine is setup, I have a quicklaunch like bar set to autohide on the far right I forgot to have pop out for the screenshot.

Question: Dual monitors?

As I'm looking into top spec computers rigs at the mo as when I'm 18, I run into a bit of ??? from a compensation from a dogbite when I was younger and my savings that my granma has saved up for me, so about 12K in all. So I'm looking for nice PC set up, and was wondering as I'm doing a graphics and photography course and college and no matter what I go on to study at uni would probably do it for a hobby and have always wanted dual monitors as it'd make my job so much easier. What do other people use it for? It would help me out as I could look at a picture on one screen as a reference and then my own piece on a nother screen. Could anyone just shed light onto the matter in general, what people use them for, requirements and limitations?Cheers

Hello. I cannot get a dual monitor setup to work for the life of me. I've made a LITTLE progress though by tweaking the BIOS to load from the Mobo VGA port first on boot, but now the second monitor just stays lit up with the windows 10 logo and nothing else, while the first still works just fine. Windows will not detect the second monitor, nor will extending it on the projector settings work. The main monitor is plugged into DVI on an old ATI Radeon HD 7700 Series card. Forget the exact model and that. I believe it's an H.I.S. Radeon. But I'm going through all the options and i'm scratching my head here. help would be appreciated.

EDIT The Radeon card I have only supports one DVI connection and one HDMI. Both monitors I have are VGA/DVI.

Answer:Need help with dual monitors

I'll happily be wrong, but I don't believe you can run one from the mobo and one from the video card together.

Disable the mobo GPU in BIOS.

Then get an HDMI/DVI adapter so you can run the second monitor off the card with the first.

Hi everyone,

I have an IBM M52 8215-d1g, that according to the internal riser has a PCIe 1x addr2-r slot. According to the documentation on the website it is a Small Form Factor (2x3).

I have some questions:-

I want to run a second monitor off my machine, what cards/ type of cards are recommended for my desktop box?
Should I be looking for a dual head card, or would the system be able to utilize the internal card at the same time?

I would preferably be looking for at least a 256Mb card minimum, would also be looking at mebbe HD support for future ref, but not essential, as the TV has a VGA in that I use.

Thanks so much.. if there's anything I have missed, ask away.

I've got 2 monitors that have both VGA and DVI-D connections. I've got 2 PCs, one with 2 DVI-D connections, one (a laptop dock) has 1 VGA and 1 DVI-D connection. My keyboard and mouse are USB. I want to find a Dual-monitor, 2-port KVM switch that will work with this setup. The hangup is the one VGA output on the laptop dock: VGA to DVI-D is problematic.

Would it be best to use a 2-port, dual-monitor KVM with VGA connections, and put DVI-D-to-VGA adapters on the output connections? I think I'd be sacrificing some screen quality, but I don't think a "VGA-to-DVI-D" adapter exists.
Thanks....Nurseferatu

Answer:KVM with Dual monitors, DVI-D and VGA

Sounds like you might be able to use something like this...

Question: dual monitors

i have a dell latitude laptop n i wanna be able to plug a monitor into it and have the same display on the other monitor as on the laptop monitor. i pluged the other monitor in and restarted the computer but wen i reight clicked, went to properties, settings it doesn't have the two monitors. is just have the normal one monitor but where it says Display is says (multiple monitors) on ATI Mobility 128 AGP 2X (DELL), but nothing is showing up on the other monitor. Please help. Thanx.

Answer:dual monitors

I believe there is an FN key in your laptop.
There is also somewhere in the numerical keys, something like two squares, imagine one square then another square right on top of that but up and to the left a little. That is what this icon looks like.
Press fn and the key with that logo. THere are 3 options that you toggle like this. One is laptop display only, external monitor only, and display both (not necessarily in that order). So once you get it to display on both post another message if you have problems after or during this process.

Question: Dual Monitors

I have a new Dell desktop Inspiron 546 and it has 2 ports for monitors... 1 VGA and 1 HDMI.
I would like to connect a second monitor. Is there a way to hook both up using the HDMI connection?
I have 2 emachines E19T6W monitors... they have both VGA and DVI connections. I have ordered a HDMI to DVI cable so I can take advantage of the hi definition resolution.
Is there a way to split the HDMI or would i have to use one monitor on VGA... or? ... gosh I sure wish I knew more what I'm trying to talk about LOL

Thanks in Advance

Answer:Dual Monitors

If you split the HDMI or any other video connection to your computer, you'll have the same thing on both monitors. Is that what you want or do you want to be able to open separate applications on each monitor?

Question: Dual Monitors

I have a radeon 9800 xt and was wondering if dual monitor support is really worth it? I already have another monitor but i still need to get the adapter to let the vga connect to the dvi. any way is it really all that great? or should i for get the idea of wasting 10 bucs on an adapter.

Answer:Dual Monitors

you do realize you physically need a second monitor right? it's up to you whether you think you need all that extra work space

I have 2 monitors, but I'm not sure how to set them up. Some sites say I need a new video card with 2 line-outs. Others are selling a Y-shaped cable splitter that could go into my existing monitor output and splits into 2 for 2 montior connections. Another site said something about using my existing monitor output and an SVGA (?) for the second monitor.

I'm running XP on an older (2002) desktop maching.
Thank you.

Answer:How to set up dual monitors?

As far as the splitters, if it is 15-pin d-sub then it will just send the same signal to both monitors. I assume this isn't what you want to do.

The easiest solution would be to buy a $40 video card that has 2 outputs. (If you don't already have one)

First though, you need to understand the two different connectors. DVI, and SVGA (or 15-pin D-sub). This picture shows both. The blue connector is SVGA and the White connector is DVI. The one in the middle is S-Video usually used for output to a TV.

Ok, So not sure exactly how to describe my problem. I use 2 monitors on my PC, and use one for gaming, and the other one for watching Tv/movies/browsing while downtime in games. Now, When I am gaming on my Main monitor, everything is fine. But if I move over and interact with anything on my 2nd monitor, My game freezes up and goes (Not Responding) and I have to close it out and restart the entire game. This happens with most games, but not all. Drivers are up to date (as far as my knowledge goes) I just cant figure out what is causing this. I have tried looking up on google to no end but nothing

Here is a pic of what I mean by (Not Responding)

Answer:Need help with dual monitors.

That's about the equivalent of Alt+Tabbing on a single screen when gaming at full screen, you're pulling the focus, CPU and GPU away from what needs it most - it's really not recommended, can crash games, etc.

Set your game(s) to run full (single) screen in a window and see if that helps.

Pardon my ignorance, but at my work we run XP alongside the very ancient Windows 3.0. Can you run dual monitors between these systems in order to use only 1 mouse and keyboard?

Answer:dual monitors between XP and Win 3.0

Could you clarify what you want to do? Do you have two complete systems except for keyboard and mouse? Or are you running two different systems on the same computer?

Either way, you will have to have your keyboard and mouse plugged in to the system in order for it to boot.

If you have two computers, you'll have to swap the keyboard and mouse after shutting down one system and before booting up the other.

This means you can only have one operating system running at a time.

Keyboards and mice are not expensive, and it's worthwhile for any business to have a spare around anyway.

If the desk space is a problem, then arrange things so you can sore the keyboard and mouse not being used off to one side.

Question: dual monitors

Hello everyone, I'm still stumped. I have 2 samsung22 monitors hooked up to a 8800gtx running on windows7 64bit. The problem I've had ever since going to windows7 is 1 monitor works, the other just black screen with power on. I've gone into nvidia control panel and also through windows and it shows both monitors present but I noticed one monitor is attached through an analog cable but both are hooked up with the dvi cables. Could my card have a bad port? when I plug in monitor 2 in the r/s dvi port it shows the right side desktop portion of the extended view and when I switch to monitor 1 on the right side dvi port it shows the left side desktop view but nothing comes up when attached to the left side dvi port. I've taken a snap shot of my desktop and it shows both screens. I've tried older drivers as far back to 170's and nothing worked.

Answer:dual monitors

You are on the right track, if when either monitors are hooked up to the r/s it works, and when hooked to the l/s it does not, then I think it is safe to say that the l/s is bad. Have you tried removing the card and the drivers, and then reseating th card, then reinstalling the drivers? But wait, you said when you go into the display settings, you see both monitors when they are both hooked to l/s and r/s? Have you tried clicking the detect button to see what happens? Sorry I have more questions than answers.
