Sony Foot Controller

Question: Sony Foot Controller

I have a Sony FS 80 foot controller that goes with the Sony ME transcriber. I would like to use the foot controller with my computer to transcribe a video. The controller has a ps2 type of connection to plug into the transcriber. I don't have a ps2 connector on my computer so I got a ps2 to USB adaptor. I plugged it into my computer (Windows 7 operating system) and it wasn't recognized.

Can this foot controller be used on my computer? Is there a driver or anything available that will make it work?

Thanks

Preferred Solution: Sony Foot Controller

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I got a ps2 to USB adaptor.Click to expand...

I was reading that you need an active, not a passive adaptor.
This is supposed to be active
http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Wholesale-USB-Active-Adaptor/dp/B000I97N1M
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Link-Depo...0-to-PS-2-Keyboard-and-Mouse-Adapter/15075023

Or another option: add on card that gives two PS/2 ports.

Maximum length for usb 2.0 is 5 meters. = 16.4 feet

If I get a usb 2.0 extension cable of 15 feet and plug in this 3.0 powered hub with its supplied 1.5 foot cable, will it fail to work?
Scheme is PC to 15 foot extension cable to 1.5 foot cable to hub.
Black 7 Port USB 3 0 Hub on Off Switches AC Power Adapter Cable for PC Laptop | eBay

Total cable length becomes 16.5 feet which is 1/10 foot longer than max of 16.4 feet. Will that extra 1/10 feet length be too much length?

Answer:USB cable extension length 15 foot plus 1.5 foot to a powered hub

For a test, I strung together 3 extensions usb and plugged in a mouse. Total length is 19 feet.
The mouse works perfectly.
So, I wonder about this extension length specification.

I have a Sony DSC-v1 which uses Sony image transfer to donload images to my computer via usb. It works, but XP pro tells me that the DSC is a high usb speed device plugged into a non hi-speed port. Xp recommends that I should add a Hi-Speed usb host controller to the computer to obtain maximum performance.Does this mean a driver upgrade or a hardware upgrade? The machine is a Dell Latitude C840 laptop.ThanksJohn

Answer:Hi-Speed usb host controller (sony DSC-v1)

it sounds like you need usb 2.0 to get the benefit of the higher speed tansfer. Since you have a laptop tese will be a little more expensive than a simple pci card click here you will also need xp sp1 installed if your running xp

Alright, got this LCD panel from my brother, his friend gave it to him after finding it in his garage. It does not work, he said I could keep it if it didn't, so I figure if I can repair it for about $100 or so I'll be good to go.Monitor Model: Sony SDM-HS73 17" LCD TFT display, manufacture date October 2003, serial 6099251. Cause of failure: UnknownEDITEDMy diagnosis of the monitor:Screen goes white when turned on, colored bars appear throughout the middle of the screen. [EDIT]When the monitor is plugged in, I noticed a high pitch noise from the inverter, same thing when its turned on. Though, you'd think if the inverter was bad it would simply shut off, wouldn't it? The noise seems to be coming from a coil on the board, I'll snap a photo of the inverter and controller and link it below. The coil in question will be circled, maybe some guru here can guess what it does exactly.[EDIT] Screen then goes black but the cathode in the bottom of the monitor stays on. Menu button doesn't work, the monitor does stay on however, which seems to indicate the inverter is good. Probable causes:Controller boardBad cable (unlikely, but plausible)Or, in a very unlikely case, the controller board isn't getting power from the inverter. Which could be a bad cable also. Any help you could give finding a replacement controller and/or inverter for this monitor would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.EDITHere's the link to my photobucket album for the moni... Read more

Hi guys,

I have a Sony Vaio and i cant seem to get my ethernet to work. Now ive contacted Sony, and they have said that i can buy a recovery disc of 60?. As a student that is way to much money.

Now i hopefully can explain all this without getting it to packed, Ive checked for any drivers on the sony sites.
The only driver i saw(that had some word of ehternet :P) was 'ethernet driver' and i downloaded that.
Now the driver installs in like 2-3 seconds, which seems not right, checked at my drivers and still was giving me questionmarks

Now there are 3 drivers that come up with a questionmarkthose are in dutch but hopefully experts know what it means
-Base system
- ethernet controller
- sm-buscontroller

When right clicked, i can search for drivers on the internet. but that doesnt work either.
Last but not least my modelnumber is: SVE14AA11M and my product name is: SVE14A1V1EB

I hope someone can help me out with this!

Thanks, Tim

I have a Sony VAIO PCV-RX741 (XP Pro SP2) that I had to reinstall the OS and clean up. Most everything has come back fine except my monitor (cannot go above 800x600 res even though it supports 1024x768) i believe the problem is the video controller driver is not installed.

I downloaded and used the drivershq.com driver detective and it downloaded sis_v614103671_64bit.zip which contains a setup for this driver, however the UseDLL failed causing two dll's not to load...(SisBase.dll and SisParse.dll) so the installation stops...any ideas?

Can anyone assist?

Hi!I bought the s430 yesterday and exchanged the hdd with a ssd. I tried to install windows 7 ultimate (sp1), but the drivers for  Ethernet-Controller, Network-Controller, PCI-communications controller and fingerprint sensor are missing, I can't find them on the support page. Also you can see an unknown device in the device manager (Hardware ID: ACPI\LEN0068 *0068). Another problem is, after installing the Ultranavdriver, I couldn't use the touchpad anymore, trackpoint still worked, after deinstallation the touchpad worked again. Last but not least, the Power Manager doesn't recognize the storage battery, the computer tells me there's no battery installed. With the hdd and the preinstalled windows, everything works. I installed all the OSfixes, all available drivers. Does anyone know what's the problem? edit: I found most of the drivers on the hdd in the c:\swtools\drivers folder. Ultranav and Power Manager now work properly. But in the device manager you can see that the PCI Simple Communication Controller still isn't installed. Hardware IDs: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E3A&SUBSYS_21FC17AA&REV_04PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E3A&SUBSYS_21FC17AAPCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E3A&CC_078000PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E3A&CC_0780

We've recently... 'aquired' a virus (my brother swears it's not his fault, but I think otherwise) that is driving me nuts. I'm told it's common, and I've seen a lot of people infected with it and recieved the links (without clicking on them), but I've tried everything I can think of - admittedly not much, I'm stuck in Windows 98 - and I can't get rid of the accursed thing.

Symptoms:

- Periodically my cursor will freeze up, and MSN will absolutely spazz out, a window for each of my friends flickering momentarily before vanishing. The seemingly only way of regaining control is CADing to open Task Manager and closing MSN entirely from there, at which point everything goes back to normal.
- On the second day of infection periodically EVERYTHING would slow to a crawl. I was watching a Youtube video at the time and the video and sound slowed to almost nothing e.g. HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO etc.
- This appears to be affecting all user accounts on my PC.
Stuff I've tried that doesn't work/doesn't recognise the problem:

- Norton Antivirus full system scan*
- Spyware Doctor from the Google Pack*
- CCleaner*
- Defragging*

*attempted whilst MSN was both installed and uninstalled.

- installing earlier versions of Messenger (8.0, 8.1)

Ok... here at work.. trying to come up with some artwork for printing on a cd I'm having made. I'm running into major roadblocks trying to get a decent graphics image.

Here is the situation:

Need a 600dpi or greater .tif to print on these cd's according to the vendor I'm using. Vendor is extremely cool about helping out, will make minor tweaks to the artwork free of charge.

The problem is, the graphics people we use. They dont print cd's, so it isn't an option to go through them as we normally would. However, I think it would be nice if we could get the cd's to look like the other promotional materials we have. So what I did, was chose a pocket folder the graphics people had previously created, and asked the graphics people for the file so that the vendor could tweak colors and use it for the cd.

The graphics people sent me a .pdf, not print ready. And crappy resolution. So I went back to them. Asked for a better format, and then asked for the 600dpi .tif. they sent me a disc. It's got .eps files on it. Now I dont know much about this, unfortunately, but .eps is some sort of compressed file, and I know it isn't something normally used for printing. So what the heck? I realize the file will be large, 3-5MB probably, but couldn't they just throw it on a disc and pop in the mail? I also realize that they created it, but since we paid for it, isn't it ours?

So basically, trying to get some feedback from a graphics pe... Read more

Question: Two foot fall

Hello, my T61 suffered a pretty bad fall onto a hard surface a few days ago from a height of two-three feet. Performance unaffected, so far -- except a new humming noise, particularly when the thing runs hot (i.e., after it's been continiously on for more than an hour). What say other people?  Should I be worried? Is there anythign I can do about it? I just moved to Croatia, I have no idea of a reliable shop to take it to, should that be necessary. Thanks

Answer:Two foot fall

You may want to open up your T61, and inspect the insides for broken parts. The fall could have dislocated the Cooler on top of the CPU by just a fraction, causing stress where there was none before. Or it's casing may have warped around there. That could cause your new 'whine'.Another (very strong) possibilty is your hard disk got damaged, and is on it's last legs.Get the Hardware Maintenance Manual, which will show you how to open it up.for 14.1" Standard T61for 14.1" Widescreen T61for 15.4" Widescreen T61You may void your warranty, but if you have nowhere to go, you also could save yourself a bundle by becoming a DIY person.

Hello Dear Friends at TSF .. I have problems.
I figure there is some corruption involved. so here goes.
Fax does not work, Internet Explorer does not work..

I tried to fax a document from my Microsoft Word. error code appeared saying:
Fax Configuration Wizard, a connection to the fax cannot be made.
tried to configure the fax it would not let me.

followed by: Microsoft Fax
An attempt to connect to the fax printer failed. Check the fax printer connection and try again. (My fax is in the computer not seperate)

So I figured I have some corruption on my computer .
I did the AdAware SE, Spybot Search and Destroy, SpyBlaster, did the CW Shreadder and updated both my AV and firewall.
Tried to update my Microsoft XP updater and it would not let me connect.
then rebooted the system.
My Internet explorer seems to be functional and now does the fax since the reboot. but its a never win battle some days it works and others it does not and I need this to work for the type of work I do daily on this computer.(legal field)

Hello, and thanks for helping.I just got internet on THIS computer. Transfered files FROM the interent from a different computer to this one, though. When I got internet I did a sby-bot S&D and Adaware scan, and nothing major came up except "abetterinternet.aurora". I removed it (or so I though) and went on enjoying my internet.About for days later, I would notice that my mouse (and whole system) would freeze for a second and go for a second on and off, for about a minute at a time. I then noticed it would do that when I started a new program or window. Not only that, but it takes forever really just to navigate my compter due to this, and the computer also takes FOREVER to boot up. The "Windows XP loading bar" will get stuck half way through its booting and go a minute later. The mouse wont even respond on the log-in page for about 20 seconds. If what I have is abetterinternet.aurora, I have every symptom BUT pop-ups and internet slow down. Its wierd, and VERY frustrating. Question: 10 Foot experience

I have my computer in my living room and displayed on a 47 inch Philips 1080P LCD TV as a HTPC. I am having problems getting good settings for viewing from afar.

I have tried setting it to 1080 resolution (everything too small) then increasing Font up to 150%. Works OK, but text is extremely sharp and often unreadable. Also not all windows/programs increase to 150% and are unreadable.

Tried 1280 by 768 resolution at 125% font size. Things are a little blurry and stretched, but best for text and windows fitting.

Currently trying 720 resolution 125% font increase. Text is too sharp again. Also with increasing font size many un-resizeable windows do not fit properly on screen. See attachment on how window cuts bottom off.

Does anyone have any suggestions on good settings, or what I think I need. It would be nice to be able to use the 720 resolution with no increase of font size. and just use a theme that is bigger. I don't know if this would work or not. I would also need to change the font to something bigger, not just magnify it.

I am really not sure how to do all thins though. any help would be appreciated.

Answer:10 Foot experience

Well I can tell you that the issue of oversharpeness is a problem with the way your TV is set up.

TVs all ship with the sharpness set way too high to compensate for the worst of the blurry non HD signals.

If your TV sharpness can be set by input, merely reduce it on the TV itself. If not, get one odf the nice TV tuning DVDs out there and set the sharpness according to it's instructions. Your DVDs and HD channels will look better too (though SD may be "blurrier" that you are used to).

Also you probably notice the whites being overly blinding and possibly blooming over the text. The contrast/brightness also suffers from the "WOW!" settings that TVs normally ship with. The tuning DVD can help with that.

In lieu of that, remember that brightness controls the black level and contrast controls the white level

I'm not sure what this bar is called (toolbar?), but it has moved and is now tucked away vertically up the left-hand side. I've tried dragging it back, but it will only move sideways till it occupies half the screen. Right-clicking on it hasn't helped matters. Any ideas, please, as to what I can do to restore it to its normal position?

Answer:Bar at foot of screen

It's called the Taskbar. Right-click on it and make sure there isn't a tick against "Lock the Taskbar". If there is, just click it to remove it. Now left-click and hold down the mouse button on a blank area of it and drag it back to the bottom.

I have a customer that needed a new data line ran in their shop, This wasn't just a straight shot, had to be routed up the side, over a half wall, etc.The total run was 150 feet. I have honestly never charged for a cable like this, but now every little bit is charged, I have to eat too!

Anyhow, how much do you charge for runs like this? Is it a per foot charge, or just one charge for the run?

thanks

Answer:Per Foot Cat 5 Custom Cable

Personally for Cat5e/Cat6 runs I wouldn't charge per foot, just include the cost of the cable as part of the run. The stuff is cheap enough in bulk that the cost of it is trivial in the end. Just a tip though, you should make sure that you're clear on how you'll charge for materials to the client before you do the work.

As of last May Microsoft has sold 100 million Windows 8 licenses, easily eclipsing their Windows Phone install base. Even if only half those licenses are on active PCs then that's still more than Windows Phone. And yet, developer support for Windows Phone easily outpaces W8/RT. Does anyone else think that's strange? I know some developers will sight lack of consumer interest and general poor sales of Windows 8 tablets. However, after already achieving tens of millions of active users, isn't it time for developers to take a little bit of the blame? The consumers are there, and with the inclusion of Bay Trail, Snapdragon 800 and the Tegra 4, the hardware is there too. It seems to me that the biggest factor is a developers disinterest, more so than just sales and hardware.
Although, while I lack the skills to be a developer, I'm of the mindset of making as much money as possible. So from my perspective, I would support any platform where I could suspect a significant return. And it seems like, with there already being tens of millions of users, developers could build up interest but are instead waiting for someone else to do it.

Answer:Are develoeprs shooting themselves in the foot?

Once RT gets some enterprise apps in its collection and wider adoption in the enterprise space you will see these developers begin writing RT apps. Small software houses just dont have the resources to put into what they would consider to be a risky venture.
Also, if you are only viewing from a US market perspective it may be scewed. MSFT is more of a global company than their competitors.

There was no recovery partition, and if there were ever any discs they had been lost. Thought to myself that I was tech savvy enough to try out a Linux OS. Installed Ubuntu. Got network card error, tried for days to solve before giving up. Installed XP from friends disc, still missing drivers to make network card function. Remembered there was an old back up of the laptop when it was still working on a hdd in the closet. Go through terribly long process of getting 23gb backup from ide drive to the lap top which can't connect to other computers. Finally get the backup on laptop and find out that the 23gb backup file decompresses into 56gb, and the harddrive only holds 75gb. Won't let me edit the back up to make it smaller, and won't overwrite the backup file while it is using it to restore the system. And cd drive isn't working either, it was before I messed with laptop. I have been using an 8gb usb to move files.

I CAN mount and look at the files in the backup. If I knew which ones to copy over I think I could get the network card to work? And then I would be able to use the backup sitting on another computer to fully restore it to what it was before I messed with it.

Or maybe there is another solution?

Windows XP 2002 SP3
Intell Pentium M processor 1700MHz 594 MHz, 1GB of RAM

Answer:I pretty much shot myself in the foot

Easier thing to do would be to go to the website of whoever makes the laptop and download the drivers. Copy those files to a thumb drive and copy them to the laptop.

If you knew which program created the backup you could use that program to restore just the files you needed.

How do I switch my foot pedal to accept USB port or sownload something for this. I use a program called SpeechCat Scopist and for some reason since the last time I used the program when I hit f4 to bring up the foot pedal it will not work but I think it's because in the drop down menu of the foot pedal there is only IN-DB9 and IN-USB-1 needs to be in there and it isn't. Help!

I would really like a break! I was adding a balkin 2.0 usb pci card to my computer supposed to be plug n play. Well I shut down open the computer carefully installed the card restarted the computer and this is what it said right at the beginning. Secondary hard disk not found
Strike the F1 key to continue F2 to run set up utility...
I said to myself this is a mistake so I F1 and went to install. Wrong it couldn't fine my cd rom for the installation disk. I couldn’t find it either.
So I went back rebooted and I F2 and this is what it said Primary drive 0 hard drive
primary drives 1 off
Secondary drive unknown device...

Why did I lose my Cd Rom. I did go back and check as far as I can see everything is still attached.

Question: stupid foot pedal

I have an Infinity foot pedal to use with Express Scribe. When I first plugged and played, it worked fine. After about an hour, the foot pedal stopped working; every query indicated that it was not recognized. I do not know how I got it working again (unless cursing counts) but it did eventually star working again. Then, after two days of no problems, it has just stopped working again. The installation wizard recognizes that it's there, there is a green light on the pedal icon now (there was not before) but it still says it's not there, and it doesn't work. I wish I knew the technical terms to describe what I've tried, but I do not. I can say that there seems to be only one of 4 USB ports that even comes close to working, and that's the one I keep trying with. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me!!! I just got this software/hardware in order to get a new job. Said job will be lost if I can't get this damn thing to work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I'm sort of in a dilema, my computer is running Windows xp pro sp2, I have contracted the PC version of herpes and I'm on my last leg! I reinstalled a few ago and had to call MS to "authenticate" my windows cd key. Here lies the problem, I've used to key to install XP on 4 other computers in my house and MS said the last time I activated my key was the last time I could ever "register" this key again because it's had "too many activations already"

Basicly I need to reinstall on the PC I'm writing from now because of bad drivers, I was wondering if it is possible to locate the file where windows has all the data saying my copy of windows is authentic... Is this file the "windows bigfoot?" or is it possible to carry over a file from this install to the next instead of having to buy a new copy of XP?

Answer:Xp Authentication file? Is it the big foot of XP?

You can fix the problem here.

I have an infinity foot pedal DB9. I have used it before. I plugged in the foot pedal and then loaded express scribe then ran the controller wizard. The foot pedal is not working. I tried com3 and com4 but realized my printer is plugged into com4 so put the foot pedal on com3. In control panel the foot pedal is on serial R232 and set on com3 and still nothing. I went into Device Manager under ports and Com3 is not listed as being used. Why is my computer not recognizing the foot pedal. I am using Windows XP. I know this foot pedal works because it will work on another computer. I worked on this computer but then I unplugged it and have not used it for a few months. Any suggestions?

I had the front left rubber foot fall off of my t500, and I count not find it to glue it back on, so I called in to see if a new foot would be covered under warranty.  (I have about a year left.) They said that rubber feet that pop off are not covered under warranty, so I would need to purchase a new one.    They gave me the fru number of 43y9731 and asked me to call parts.  When I called parts, they said it would be $54. Is this right?  Anyone else have any advice?  I can't see myself paying $54 for 1 rubber foot. Thanks!

Thinkpad T500 - Intel Core2 P8400 (2.26GHz), 4 gigs of ram, 160GB/7200rpm hard drive, ATI 3650 GPU, WSXGA+ panel

Answer:Replacement Rubber Foot $54?

To be fair, the foot is part of the "Base miscellaneous parts" kit, which a bunch of parts. The part number you quote is the whole set.. When you say "front", are you talking about the long foot toward the palmrest or the smaller foot by the hinges.  I believe that all the 15.4" T-series models since the T60 wide-screen use the same feet.  I move them all the time.  They come off easily with a small screwdriver or other sharp tool, and I attach them with superglue.  I have some.  Send me a pm.

I already lost one of the rubber feet on the battery. I am expecting the others to come off just as easily. And it's not something that I can purchase separately. I guess the replacement battery in a year will solve the issue.

Answer:X220t rubber foot came off

Look around your house for any small appliance that has rubber feet.  Cut a small piece off with a razor blade and glue it on with rubber cement.  You'll have to experiment with it before you get it right.

I'm starting to get pretty good at that.  I'm always losing rubber feet.

Answer:Microsoft shoots self in DRM foot

Don't understand the problem here, mate. You want to pay a limited rate for accessing subscription media but have a system incapable of detecting that the limit has been attained?

This is silly. It only impacts on people who are using that style of service, and if people are doing so then they shouldn't be complaining about measures which ensure that its terms are adhered to. FFS! If you don't want it to be metered then go pay the extra for the un-metered version. Don't go complaining when a problem with the metering mechanism is corrected!

Either I'm missing something here or this is the silliest post I've ever seen you make

So the rubber foot on my T61 fell off. I wanted to get another one, but it seems the only way to buy it is in a parts bag which costs over $50. Does anyone know where I can get it? Tech support isn't any help as it's not in warranty. It's really annoying as the laptop isnt even when typing etc. I also took a picture so you can see what I'm talking about: http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/4058/dsc0230v.jpg

Answer:Rubber foot on my T61 came off! Where can I get a new one other than tech support?

They sold those? If yours is still under warranty, won't they cover it?After a few T-series units (3 personal ones, 3 from work), I saw my first missing foot on a T40 I bought for a friend. What I did: with the laptop level, I carefully flowed Sumo glue until it's a few mm thick, slightly lower than the other foot (to account for slight expansion as it dried). The rectangular/oval wall around the missing foot kept it it there and it spreaded evenly on its own. After about 3 hours, it hardened into a smooth and round foot of translucent white color. It doesn't look stock, but it does the job and it would never come off.

Hello all, as most of you know, I love ASUS and I have hyped the ASUS's 6800 gamer's edition v9999. It comes with 256 DDR3 @ 1ghz, the chip runs at a good speed, it was said by ASUS that the card has a 25% speed advantage over comparable 6800 cards. I was looking though my Nov issue of Maximum PC and realized that I could have had a GT for the same price (kicks myself in the buttocks). Also the review of the ASUS card was 6 out of 10, very low score for a video card to get, while the same priced GT got a 9 out of 10.

So, I now stand corrected and will admit that the GT is now the best card for the buck.

Peace,
Matthew

Answer:foot in my mouth (ASUS 6800)

Same way with the X800 Pro....although it owns your version of the 6800. The Saphire Toxic X800 Pro, which is probably the best make out there, only got a 6 out of 10 in Maximum PC.

Purchased an HP Elite Keyboard V2 and within a month one of the foot stands broke.  I started looking everywhere I could think of to purchase a replacement stand.  These stands are removable already so I figured HP or someone would have the ability to buy and replace the foot stand.  I spent way too much time with the first HP representative who told me all I could do is buy another keyboard.  I asked why I would pay another $30 to $40 to replace a 2 cent part.  She then told me, "that is the way it is," great experience with HP customer support.  I called back to see if I could get someone more helpful and found out that even though it is an HP product that HP does not sell these replacement foot stands.  Why they are not particularly sturdy, and it is an HP product. The issue is small, and the experience is horrible.  I have many HP products in my business and home.  I know it is a little thing, but my experience with HP in this situation was terrible, and all from what I would assume is a 2 cent part.  I can say this; I will never buy another keyboard from HP because they have no support for the products they put their name.  Buyer beware!

basically as the title says everything with the computer is fine, after a long while of gaming the gpu may overheat and it will crash, but thats no big issue. then just yesterday my freind discovered he had total control over my computer, if he just stomped the ground, not even that hard. basically EVERYTHING ceases to move on the screen the HDD light no longer flickers and the power button on the front of the computer becomes useless, im forced to turn off the psu then on again.

my freind said that it was probly my harddrive and when either of us stomped on the ground it de-aligned the head or whatever and it sucked, just wondering if he is right and if it is the cause of the freezing.

sorry for the lack of details but this is a fairly general question, i got my computer 4 years ago so the hd is about that old.

Answer:computer freezes when i stomp my foot!?

Open it and make sure all your cards, RAM and connectors are secure. You may have something loose, especially if you have moved it before. Also, you could take the time to get a can of compressed air and blow out any dust in the case. That may even help your overheating problems.

I am using a program that I would like to use a foot pedal with...The program setup instructions tell me to "Connect the footpedal as a 2 button/2 axis joystick under Control Panel\Gaming Options."

My problem is that the foot pedal connects to the computer through a COM port, as opposed to a Game Port or USB. How should I go about installing this foot pedal as a joystick?

Thank you.

So you're saying you don't have a COM port? You can install a PCI card to give your computer a COM port. Here is just an example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815166003

Topaz said they could sell me a foot at ?12.50 plus p&p.
The laptops not even a month old!!!!
So I phoned Toshiba and they told me "the foot is not covered by warranty".

Answer:Re: Satellite C55-A-N10 - Rubber foot missing

It is really stupid situation now. I use notebooks since almost 15 years and my oldest notebook was 8 years old. To be honest I?ve never noticed such issue on my machines.

Anyway, there is no reason to believe you when you say that one of the rubber feet had fallen off. Problem is that it is hard to explain that this can happen for no reason because such parts are glued and pretty good fixed to the plastic cover so I can imagine that service thinks it is removed with some force.

I really don?t know to say about that. Try please to contact some other Toshiba ASP and talk with them. Don?t be arrogant and angry. Be nice, explain the situation and maybe there is some way to get it for free.

Hi Can you put two routers on the same telephone line? The wireless works but only in one room and the hallway due to the old stone walls. Ideally I would like to add a router to the telephone jack in the kitchen which would give better access to the wireless. Is this possible?

Hi,I also have this problem, and I really need this rubber feet as not only does the laptop keeps sliding everywhere (very annoying), it can get hotter because it's not as elevated as before. I contacted IBM for replacement rubber feet as I am under warranty, but they asked me to ship my whole laptop, only to change the WHOLE bottom part of the laptop. That's ridiculous, the old thinkpads had the rubber feet as replacement CRUs where people could self-install them, I see no reasons why this isn't possible with the Thinkpad Yoga S1. I simply cannot afford to lose my laptop for work for 3 weeks. Why isn't it possible to ship those rubber feet separately (and yes they are easily removable)? Why isn't it possible to buy them from ebay or anywhere else, I can only buy the bottom cover for a ridiculous 70$...

The subject may look like a simple issue and but it reflect the quality of the Thinkpad X1 carbon that I used for 2-3 months of NORMAL USE and the poor customer service satisfaction I received.  The fact I stressed that it is normal use because when I called Lenovo care service, they sounded as though it is not cover when the "failure or damage resulting from misuse, accident, modification, unsuitable physical or operating environment, natural disasters, power surges, or improper maintenance by you."

What make the whole matter really absurb is that the manager asked to obtain the quote from their service center, which I received earlier and the cost of replacing a peeled off rubber foot is a ridculously high S$230 or US$185.

It makes you feel so idiotic that the small piece of rubber foot worth 65$, and it is so labour intensive to stick it on that it will cost $150 to do so.

This speaks of the initiative and customer satisfaction level that you get from the Lenovo care center.  We may as well put in a robot or automated the process since the customer representative mechanically churned out quotation and provide standard reply.

Answer:Thinkpad X1 rubber foot peeled off after normal use.

Something similar happened to me except this occurred approximately one month after I received the laptop. I hope this is resolved in a timely fashion as I strongly believe that this is not due to improper maintenance, as I only use it for light office use.

Microsoft has recently altered its EULA for Windows Vista stating that the OS can only ever be installed twice before you must purchase the OS again. This 'feature' is enforced through Product Activation.

Translation: Enthusiasts and gamers who frequently revise their hardware are screwed since it will only allow one motherboard change before you must repurchase Vista.

I guess that means this gamer won't be buying Vista.

I am running Win 7 Profession x 64 on an HP Pavilion HPE (brand new).

I use ChartScript.net for my job doing medical transcription. On my old XP PC running IE 6 I had no problems at all with the site or setup. Because this site is reported to be incompatible with any IE above 6, I have installed Avant browser which reports to be compatible with IE 6. I was able to completely setup the access and usage of the site normally except for setting up the foot pedal, an IN-USB2. I get the following error:

"An error has occurred configuring foot pedals: Active X component cannot create object."

I have already tried using XP Mode and it will not recognize the pedal either. It flat won't find it at all even using the USB attach function.

The pedal is showing in Devices and Printers as Unspecified: VEC USB foot pedal. Changing USB ports has no effect.

I am enclosing a screen shot as well.

Needless to say I am extremely frustrated and need to be using this new PC and not the 8 year-old worn out one.

Thank you in advance for any help and suggestions.

Answer:Unable to activate foot pedal in ChartScript

I finally found the answer to the above problem on a different forum.

Download and install Oracle VM Virtual Box and install a minimal version of XP. Now open IE 6 within the VB and run ChartScript. The system will now accept the foot pedal and install normally.

https://www.virtualbox.org/

Windows 7 cannot redirect HID devices into XP Mode therefore that pedal is seen by Win 7 but not the XP mode. VB can redirect these devices and/or capture them for use within the VB environment.

I hope this helps someone else if they come looking help to this problem.

I recently had to buy a large cable for a far away connection, i have 100 feet left and i decided to make some cat6 cables for my router to computer which are sitting right next to each other.

i took cisco networking 1 and 2 but it hasn't been 2 years since iv made my own cables.

i was wondering whats the best type for a Modem to Router, and Router to Computer type cables? i did a normal ethernet cable for the one to the living room following this picture since the stock cable had the same colors in each place

i did this on both sides of the cable, its working right now, i am using them but, did i mess up? or is there a better choice? this is what the stock cat6 cable came with on both sides.

Answer:making new cables from a 200 foot Cat6 Cable

Hi,

you've got it right. Straight cables for this & a cross over for computer to computer.

My taskbar has moved to the side of the screen.I want it back along the foot of the screen but my dragging doesn't seem to be very successful. I can only drag it halfway across, as it were, but can't get it to turn downwards to where it used to be. Any suggestions, please?

Answer:Moving taskbar back to foot of screen

Try dragging diagonally until your pointer is just at the edge of where your clock would normally be (right hand corner of the screen). I've just tried it, and it seems to work OK for me.

Does anyone know how I can get a replacement foot for my laptop (at a reasonable price).

I'm surprised they are not easy to source via the Toshiba website, google or ebay. Possibly I've missed something obvious .

Answer:Satellite C660-1UJ - Rubber Foot missing

It is not easy to find and order such parts. Toshiba doesn't sell any parts directly so you cannot find it via Toshiba pages. All you can do is to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

Check also eBay. There you can find many different parts for different notebook models. Maybe you will be lucky about that.

A few months ago, I found some six-foot CAT5 cables with RJ45 terminals for 99 cents each. I ordered a bunch and have used them all up. I went back to the supplier; but, they are in the business of selling overstock and don't have any at present. I have done a cursory search but none of my usual suppliers have any at the sub-one-dollar price.

Anyone know where I can find some of these cheapies?

Answer:Looking for 6- to 10-foot CAT5 premade cables on-the-cheap

Part number 00JT241 - where can I order them? Two of the rubber feet from my Yoga S3 14 have repeatedly fallen off, this time they are lost. For some reason I expect a business laptop to be built for standard use, such little problems make for big annoyance. I need replacements, have a part number, but can't find a source - and I don't expect to buy a housing for my laptop to replace tiny rubber parts because Lenovo used an inadequate glue. I've had terrible experience with Lenovo customer service, especially in connection with a laptop I bought for my daughter, which was held in service for 5 WEEKS!!! and returned with no repair other than a reformatted hard drive. I had to get very loud in order to get the machine back at all. This is unacceptable, and can only make good business customers look for other manufacturers. Lenovo, are you listening?

OS ... Windows XP Wanadoo as my ISP and OE for E-mails Microsoft "blocked" something trying to download. Unfortunately it went to quickly I could not get it all but it appeared to read something along the lines Internet Explorer tried to download Address Bar.....dllThis was blocked by Micros Soft Antiware too but said "contained no spyware". This is reocurring I then found my "address bar" on Wanadoo had disappeared (no probs there I have got it back!) BUT at the foot of Outlook Express there is another Address Bar relating it says to Wanadoowith Web/Shopping/Pictures and an advert for Next. How did it get there and how do I get rid of it please? At the mo I have dragged the bottom of the page to slightly cover it.Thanks guys.

Answer:Outlook Express - address bar for wanadoo at foot!

Wanadoo customize IE and OE with there own address bars etc. Nice of them I know, try this open OE and thenView Layout and then there are a number of tick boxes I think one is listed as the information bar or something like that you can just try them it will do no harm. Anyway one of the bars listed is the wanadoo bar at the bottom of your screen and when you take the tick out of the corrisponding box and apply it should dissapear

Hi: I cannot get wifi at my house because of trees, but I can get a good signal at my shop. My shop is 1500 ' from my house. I do have a clear line of site from house to shop. I want to set it up where I can have two computers on wifi at my house. I do not want to go out and purchase a lot of equipment that I don't need, but I do want a good setup. I am new to wifi and I need expert advise on what to purchase. Your help will be greatly appreciated Thank You.

Answer:1500 foot wifi connection shop to home

this probably isn't the best forum for this. search for wireless forums and i guarantee this will be a sticky question.

Your least expensive bet is probably a couple of high-gain, very directional antennas attached to a couple of Linksys routers running 3rd party firmware (dd-wrt, etc) with the xmit power turned up.

Under Disk Management, it shows 3.86 GB unallocated on a 1T disk drive. . .

In Administrative events I have an Event 1 VDS Basic Provider error (listed 4 times)

Unexpected failure. Error code: [email protected]

did I just lose my entire backup drive? (I am asking from a hopium stand point!)

Is there anything which anyone knows which might be able to get my backup drive back?

I am not optimistic

ok here is what i have to do. there is a house and a cottage. in estimation i need to broadcast wireless network roughly a thousand feet to the cottage. its a straight shot and no trees are in the way. is this possible to do and what hardware would it require? its already setup so i can place the router in the room that overlooks the cottage.

ive seen MIMO router cover 5 thousand square foot house so i thought maybe this could be possible with MIMO equipment on both ends.

So I figured I'd give the "digital download locker" a go. (Microsoft's software download service). I had run the compatibility checker previously and everything checked out with a few warnings about various software that may need my attention. All my hardware was deemed kosher. Cool. entered the cc digits and downloaded the 2 gigs in about an hour or so...no complaints about speed. Printed off my license and promptly made a backup of my new legally downloaded software.

gave this a read through -->
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2082979,00.asp

No biggie...seemed that doing an inplace upgrade was as simple as the regular "next, next, next, finish" install....98% complete...i could taste the vista goodness...then BAM! BSOD.

Ok, no biggie, I have everything backed up on external disks and DVD so no data loss. I re-install XP Pro, since I have a stupid executable and no real disk images per say, and I kick off the Vista upgrade....again....this time I check clean install and tell it which drive and what not...same deal, BSOD. wtf.

Now I realize driver support is usually lacking for an OS launch, but the compatibility wizard had assured me everything was on the up and up. BS. I check out ASUS's site for some drivers and they don't even have "Vista" as an OS for the choices for any of the drivers.(A8N-SLI Premium, 939 4600+ X2, 2Gig Corsair, 7800GTX, Raptor ETC....) I know there are some beta drivers...so maybe onc... Read more

Answer:Vista compatible my foot. Digital download locker escapades.

Try just a bare bones xp install, with no drivers and then install vista upgrade..

oh btw some have reported (on this forum) that they did a clean install (u dont need a code to install, simply uncheck a box and click next during install. then upgrade correctly withing vista..

u should be able to burn your download to disc

Errno 28: no space left on device

and stops there during the boot process. I don't know what Linux it is running, but it is older. It's boot menu is one of those red ones. Return = reboot, arrow keys to navigate, enter to execute.

I've tried two different IDE CD-ROM drives, both IDE ports, all three of slave/master/neither pins, both slave/master ports on the IDE ribbon.. and a simple PCI card with a couple SATA ports and an IDE port... in the slot before AND after the SCSI RAID card

And it still won't pickup the CD-ROM drives. In BIOS, "CD-ROM" is the first boot device, "USB-CDROM" the second, and "HDD-0" the third (I don't think HDD-0 means anything useful). This is a Socket A motherboard. This does not have an F12/F10/ESC boot menu to select a device to boot from. I now wasted $7 on a pack of CD-R's and can't boot the old Linux server that runs AD and hosts the shared network drives because I shut the machine down with 100% used diskspace.

And since it's a RAID, there's nothing I can do about it. I don't have any flash drives, and I doubt it would event boot off a flash drive as old as it is.

I feel like cursing, screaming, and crying. Just want to go home. There was just a few simple things to do.. and it would be simple, but nooo... something just ALWAYS has to pin me down. I hate IT, I hate computers, I hate technology.

I just aquired an X61s and the installed battery (8 cell - it extends out the back) is a bit odd. It snaps in fine and works OK, but there is a gap at the left end (with laptop upside down) about 1/4" wide, and the battery pack that stands a bit proud of the bottom of the unit only has one foot on it which is on the right side... It was suggested to me that I may have an X60s battery instead of the X61s style....Looking on the Lenovo site it seems they take the same P/N(actually I could not find a battery marked for the X61s, but only for the X60 "series" ) Has anyone else run into this?Is there an adapter plate that might fix this? THANKS!

This was a really poor design.  I have a 9-cell battery on my XPS L702X.  Since this battery extends out, it becomes a functional part of the stability of the battery as it sits on a flat surface.  I travel a lot and my laptop goes in and out of my laptop bag.  One day recently I noticed that the laptop was teetering back and forth and I found that the little rubber foot had come out and I found it in my laptop bag.  I pushed it back in with some tape and it held for a few more weeks, but I just returned from a business trip and now it is completely gone.  So I have to put a small piece of paper to keep it from teetering.  I thought to myself, "Well, at least I have Complete Care and they can send me a new rubber piece with the adhesive."
So I called the support line and after about 10 minutes with this person she said that since it was a part of the battery - it only has a 1 year warranty, (And I just went over the 1 year mark in September) and therefore they cannot send me a new battery.  I told her that the battery was working fine and that all I needed was this little rubber foot so that the laptop will be stable on whatever flat surface I choose to put it.   I then asked her to let me speak to her supervisor because it just sounded idiotic that I can't get some small piece when I have Complete Care - which ended up costing me almost 20% of the cost of the computer, by the way.
The supervisor Rocky told me ... Read more
