i turn the computer on, but there is no beeps and i cannot get past the hp screen.

Question: i turn the computer on, but there is no beeps and i cannot get past the hp screen.

hp s5623 windows 7
I turn the computer on and the fans start there are no beeps and the dvd opens and closes fine. I cannot enter bios at all.
The hp blue splash screen is on the monitor with three options F10 (setup) Esc (boot menu) and F11 (system recovery). When I shut it off and restart; while pressing the F10 the screen comes up saying it is entering setup, but never happens. Same with the Esc. F11 doesn't even pretend to work.
I do hope the team of Tim and friends can help. :banghead

Preferred Solution: i turn the computer on, but there is no beeps and i cannot get past the hp screen.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: i turn the computer on, but there is no beeps and i cannot get past the hp screen.

Re: i turn the computer on, but there is no beeps and i cannot get past the hp screen

First: Remove any media from the floppy drives, CD/DVD drives, USB ports, and memory card reader slots, and disconnect all non-essential devices (printers, scanners, external hard drives, and similar). Leave only the keyboard, mouse, and monitor connected to the computer.
Next press F10 repeatedly, even before the HP screen appears and see if you can get into the BIOS.

I was playing a game on my PC while it was storming out and the power surged. Before I could unplug my pc the power came back on and my computer started back up. After starting back up it said installing update do not turn off the computer. I waited until it was done then it brought me to a black screen with a Windows logo and a circular loading bar. I waited somewhere between 5-10minutes before holding down the power button until it turned off. Upon turning the computer back on all the fans would work and everything it would show the blue screen that says to press esc then brings me to a black screen where it would have a _ mark in the top left and beep non stop. It isnt a long beep or anything its just multiple beeps non stop until I turn it off. I have tried taking out the ram and putting it back in but it just keeps beeping. I did a mem test and it showed that nothin was wrong with the ram. The beeps are high pitched and very fast. I have a video showing what happens if there is a way to post it.

I've had my N5010 for almost 3 years now, and lately I've come across some problems, which peaked with the last one - dead monitor apparntly.
It started with overheating problems sometime ago, then 2-3 weeks ago whenever I turned on the laptop it wouln't boot or show anything, meaning it would turn on, the lights were on but there were no beeps of signs of boot or any display (well, screen backlight was actually going on but it was still dark), What I did whenever that happend was letting the battery dry out and then would plug it to the power supply and turn it on, usually worked.

Then, about a week ago, it stopped working all together - whenever I turn it on, the screen stays black and after a few seconds the laptop starts to beep 8 times over and over again until I shut it down. I've read online that 8 beeps means there's a problem with my screen or something like that.

I've tried connecting it to an external monitor yesterday and it does work.

What are my options? My warranty runs out in about 2-3 weeks - thing is, my keyboard broke couple of months ago and I replaced it at my own expanse in a private shop - does it void the warranty? and does the warranty covers this at all? I just don't want to send it all the way to the lab when there's a possibility they won't even fix it either because warranty doesn't cover it or because warranty was voided...

Thanks in advanced!

Answer:N5010 - 8 beeps. Screen won't turn on

8 beeps indicates a problem with the LCD display.

Best get in touch with Dell immediately explaining the issue (incl. the keyboard fix). It would be desirable to get a new laptop under warranty obviously.

So my boss just called me up telling me her computer won't turn on, it just beeps. I've been doing tech support for them, but this has never occured to me, i'm more of a software guy. Any clue as to why this would be happening and how to fix it? Sounds like a heat issue.

Answer:Computer won't turn on, just beeps.

The beeps are a code used to diagnose the problem.

How many beeps? Is it one short and two long, three short, four short, three long? What motherboard/model PC is it? Not all models give or use the same beep codes.

At this point, it can be any number of problems causing the symtoms.

i can't turn my computer (vista) on, it just beeps - 1 short (~4secs) and 1 long (~10secs)

prior to this it just randomly restarted when i knocked the tower block with my chair.. then it wouldnt turn on. when it finally did turn on it froze. since then i've had the beeping.

not quite sure what to do. thought it might be an overheating problem so i've just left it to air for a while but it still beeps.

help please!

Answer:can't turn computer on, just beeps

The beep code indicates a hardware issue. When you bumped the tower with your chair, you probably "dislodged" the video card or memory sticks. The manual for your motherboard would tell you what the beep code means specifically but I would probably just start out by unplugging the PC, and reseating all cards that are on the motherboard. (Video, Ram sticks, etc.) Then see if it will turn on.

I woke up this morning and left the computer on from last night. The screen had red stripes going threw it and windows logo. So I push the power button to try and restart it and turn it off. So I turned it off the waited a few seconds and turn it back on. The lights came on and the fan came on but the computer never came on, it just kept beeping every five seconds. If some one could help I have no idea why its doing this.

I am using a Dell Inspiron 1501 and I spilled coke in it like a month ago, I have already replaced my laptop but have tried turning it on and it does a 1-3-1-3 beep code. I tried looking up solutions but I'm really not sure what to do. Any solutions to this problem will help. This is what I've found

1-3-1-3 22h Test 8742 Keyboard Controller Troubleshoot the keyboard. Troubleshoot the keyboard controller. Troubleshoot the motherboard.

1-3-1-3 A20 gate failure.

I'm not really sure what they mean or what I can do in this situation. Any help is appreciated.

I have been able to turn it on a couple of weeks ago after about 100 tries or so (lol) so is there anyway I can just turn it on only this once. I'm only trying to turn it on to retrieve some old files.

Answer:Laptop screen doesn't turn on but beeps

I am inclined to say that too long has gone by for an adequate fix. Normally, following spillages, you need to remove the battery, HDD, keyboard, RAM (pretty much all of it), wipe up what you can, and then leave to dry for 24hours (more if possible).

I'm afraid the damage may have already been done, BUT, may still be worth a try. Remove all components that you can (a quick search online should help you with your particular model), in particular those mentioned above (remember to use an anti-static wristband and mat when working with components). Clean up any sticky coke and dust, etc. then LEAVE everything to dry. Who knows, you might get a working laptop from this.

However, if you're not that bothered and just want the files from your HDD, invest in a HDD usb dock. They're relatively inexpensive and allow you to connect your bare HDD to your computer via an external docking station. Just make sure you take the battery out of your old laptop before trying to remove the HDD (again, make sure you have some antistatic equipment to do this).

Good luck

Ill hope one more time. The resolution looks to be back to normal. When I turn it on it goes through the normal load screens but then just black. I changed the monitor resolution up but not even all the way to optimum. Any help would be nice THX in advance.

Answer:wont turn on past XP load screen

hello jscar,

now this sounds like driver issue

what i want you to do is when you start your system (push the start button ) start tapping the (F8) key

now your system should bring up a screan that says

safemode with network
safemode with command prompt

this first time we co here i want you to select (safemode) / your system should start !! it will be running with generic drivers so everything may look all distorted (suppose to )

if your system dose load thenyou will have a few questions ( just say yes )

now what i need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now go to the (event veiwer) this is thru the (administrator tools) in the control panel
here you will find 3 to 4 subcatagories

you will want to check each of them for this is where windows keeps track of all errors
now you will want to make notes of the errors that have been recorded ( you do not have to make notes of double entries just of the dates of their happenings & how many there is)
you will get more information on the errors if you (right) click them / then select properties

then get back to us

Hi guys,So I'm in the middle of watching the end of the 4th season of The Wire on my PS3, when I get a media server error, and the playback stops. I originally assumed that the computer (the one serving the media over the network) had done an automatic Windows restart or something, and would eventually come back on. Well, that never happened. I went to the machine to check it out, and all of the inside lights were on, including the keyboard and mouse, the fans and HDDs were spinning, but there was no display to the monitor. Restarting by pressing the power key on the case didn't work. I was still getting no display as even the BIOS screen wasn't showing. At first I thought it was a video card issue, but if that was the case, the operating system would still be running, and the media server would still be up. So I then tested the ram. There are two 1 GB sticks being used, so I tried each one individually. Still nothing. Now I'm thinking (mostly because I've been Googling the issue, and these seems to be the likely culprits) that it's either the power supply, or the motherboard. I tried turning the system on with no ram to see if it would beep, and nothing happened. Still no display either. The only difference is everything goes on, waits a few seconds, then shuts off. It will keep doing this until I press the power button again. So I'm not completely stuck, not yet anyway, but I could definitely use some more experienced insight before I go any ... Read more

I have a Dell Dimension 8400 with Windows XP Pro on it. It's only a year and a few months old.

Anyway, a few months ago, I turned on the computer and instead of loading properly, it beeped and nothing showed up on my computer screen. And all I could hear after the beeping was the fan, which I noticed to be abnormal since the machine makes its usual running sounds. So, I opened up the computer and saw that one of the metal strips that covers an unused drive space was loose, so I tightened it back into place, closed up the computer and when I turned it on, all was well.

Now, just a few days ago, the same thing happened except nothing I did could make my computer turn back on. I tightened the metal strips, drives, checked all plugs, etc only to find out that whenever I pressed the power button the green light goes on, the beeping happens, but the computer will not turn on and function. All I still hear is the fan on inside the computer.
Please help.

Answer:my computer beeps and doesn't turn on, help!

Does the beeping stop after a certain number of beeps each time? If so, count the beeps and refer to the online help available through the PC manufacturer. It's possible the movement when you opened it up caused the machine to work again and was not related to the metal strip. (possible). If you have more than one ram module, try each one separately. This may single out a bad one. If there is any way that you can borrow a friend's ram memory module(s) try different ram. Almost every time I've had the beeping problem, it has been ram related.

Answer:My Computer Does Not Turn on, Just Beeps continuously

Nearly every motherboard has beep codes that tell you what is wrong. Look for a very good recent list by Tedster, which will tell you what is wrong with the computer or motherboard, based on the beep codes or beep pattern.
Often the continuous beep shows an failure of the CPU, or the CPU socket. Are you certain all pins are in, and none are bent?
EMachines W3118 sold at Wal-Mart is one of the 14 models with a very high motherboard failure rate. This could mean your motherboard is dead. It is $177.50, plus shipping, to replace it.
Look at Tedsters list for beep codes related to that board. I cannot remember if he included eMachines codes.

I have a black lenova thinkpad laptop and once in a while when i turn on the laptop, it makes 8 beeping noises and the screen wont turn on at all but it sounds like the laptop is on. I have tried fixing this by keeping the laptop in the fridge for a day because i think it was becaue it was over heated. Once i take it out, it works perfectly fine. But when it happens again it eally gets on my nerves and it sometimes happens at poor times when i actually NEED to use my laptop. This has happened probably over 12 times now. I have no idea how laptops work or what the different parts of them are called. So if there is a solution, please explain it in a simple manner. Thank you!

Answer:Lenova Think pad makes 8 beeps and screen wont turn on

Hello and welcome,
Please tell us what model laptop you have.  The Hardware Maintenance Manual for you laptop probably has a "beep code" section that may help narrow down the situation.
For example. if a T420 emits One short beep, pause, three short beeps, pause, threemore short beeps, and one short beep. It can be a memory module or the system board.
The beep codes may be common to all ThinkPads (I'm not sure...) but it would be good to look up the documentation specific to your machine.

Hi, I transferred my old HP Pavilion P6310y components into a new Antec 300 case. When I plugged the PC, and press the ON button the PC would turn on but would not boot and the screen remains black with no beeps/sound. The PSU is working as the fan is spinning and the ON button is lit-up, the DVD tray will open once I press the button but will close back immediately. I double checked the wiring cables, but to no avail. I searched the net and tried some of the fixes including removing and re-installing the RAM, video card and even removing the battery to clear the CMOS, but again to no avail. Prior to the components transfer to the new case, I already replaced the PSU (Corsair 400) and installed a GT240 video card and even installed a Blu-ray as a 2nd drive (in the last 2 months). The HP PC was working fine with all the upgrades until I decided to transfer the whole system into the new case as it is getting crowded/poor ventilation in the old case. Thinking it may be the cables/ wiring, I finally returned back the components to the old HP case but still got the same problem- would turn on but will not boot. Please help. Thanks

Hey guys ... i need someones help... anybody any suggestions i will take as i have other working computers, with parts to pull out.
My comp wont start, nothing on screen (says no signal), cpu runs, gpu runs ... well spins. i think harddisk runs and cd and dvd drive flash like the reading light. Long beeps keep going ... dont think its a bios beep or watever like no point counting. The computer seems to restart and a beep. restart and beep... process goes on till i pull the plug.

If it helps, this is wat i did:
i changed the graphics card from a 7600gs agp - 7600 gt agp. then i wanted to add 512 mb Ram but i cudnt get the stick in It had 2 x 512 mb previously and took it out to read the label and put them back in. I think this might be the problem .. it seemed real dusty around it and i might have shoved some dust into the slot !!

I bought it on eBay and it was not really working fine. Like when i restart it says DISK BOOT FAILURE. PLEASE INSERT SYSTEM DISK...and i have to repair the current version of install and go thru the whole processs (like formatting) in order to get into xp. But i found out that the problem was prolly due to the xp version being a upgrade (not full install cd) and that every time i restarted the older (WIN 95) was trying to boot up. which is why i was doing a complete format

Please tell me anything you know to be helpful

Hello Cosmic_Wolf,

I understand that you are having beeps at startup.

You may try to reseat the ram.

Remove the ram and reinsert.

Also do a hard reset.
Turn the computer off.
Remove the power cable and the battery.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.

This should reset the hardware in the computer.

As you turn it back on tap the F10 key. This will load BIOS setup utility.
Press F9 to load defaults.
Press F10 to save and exit.

When the computer boots back up, check to see if everything is working.

Let me know how everything goes.

I think I have the same problem as many owners of Satellite X series computers - three beeps when I trying to turn on and then black screen, no video. I showed notebook to official service here in Azerbaijan but they couldn't tell me what the problem exactly - video card or motherboard.

So my question is - where can I buy NVIDIA? SLI Dual GeForce? 8600M GT video card? I searched internet shops but couldn't find. May be you can help me.

And my next question - if here is anybody who could solve this problem by changing graphic card?

Answer:Satellite X205-SLI6 - Three beeps when I turn my computer on

As far as I know you will not be able to obtain graphic card separately and in case that graphic card is defective the whole mainboard will be exchanged. You can check this by authorized Toshiba service provider.

> And my next question - if here is anybody who could solve this problem by changing graphic card?
In my opinion all this is pretty unrealistic. Would you really send your notebook to someone in Europe if you get YES answer?

Beep Codes
Your computer might emit a series of beeps during start-up if the monitor cannot display errors or problems. This series of beeps, called a beep code, identifies a problem. For example, beep code 1-3-1 (one possible beep code) consists of one beep, a burst of three beeps, and then one beep. This beep code tells you that the computer encountered a memory problem.
Reseating the memory modules may correct the following beep code errors. If the problem persists, contact Dell for instructions on obtaining technical assistance.

Memory failure above address 0FFFFh

After installing an automatic update, my labtop was working perfectly fine last night i closed it i believe around 1230 am. Ive been trying to turn it on since 7pm today and it will start turning on and not show the logo and keeps making beeping noises. Is there any way I can fix this please

Answer:Dell Inspiron 11 3000 won't turn on and beeps 5 times with black screen.

The 5 beeps are normally a signal that there is a problem with the CMOS battery that powers the BIOS on the system (among a few other things).  This is not the battery that you think of that powers the system on, off, etc., when it's not plugged into an ac adapter.
Try this:  Remove the battery and AC adapter from the system, then hold the power button down for 10 to 30 seconds.  That should remove any residual power in the system.  Then plug the AC adapter back in and see if the system powers up at that point.
A quick question, when you say it won't show the "logo" are you referring to the Dell logo or the Windows one?  You may also want to see if you can go in and reset your BIOS if you actually see the Dell logo show up.
Let me know how those two steps go and if it helps or not.  If not, please let me know if you're seeing the Dell logo at all when it starts up.  And also which version of Windows that you're running on the system.  If you're seeing the Dell logo but Windows won't start it leads towards something different than the CMOS battery, although the 5-beeps would seem to indicate that was the problem.

core i7
6GB b of RAM
nvidia 525 gt graphics card / 1gb dedicated
Windows 7 64 bit
640 GB HDD
The laptop was working fine yesterday and when i went to sleep i properly turned it off without any errors occurring. Today when i turned it on:-
-the power button turns on
-the three support buttons on the top right corner of the laptop flash
-i can see battery and power notification lights but the hard drive light doesn't blink or turn on
-i can hear and in fact glimpse the fan working.
-the screen shows nothing, it isn't a black screen because that would imply that the screen still turns on but the screen remains off.
-I hear no error beeps or any kind of booting sounds
-I should also probably mention that recently the AC adapter of the laptop wasn't working properly and i had part of its main connecting wires replaced while keeping the circuit board or main work board intact, and it worked fine after that but i am guessing the repair may have something to do with this new issue.
I have tried the hard reset or flea power method, hoping it would solve the problem but it hasn't work even after multiple attempts. The laptop is no longer under warranty and if the issue is dire and i suspect it is, i would have to send the computer to a dell support  and repair center and i have  heard maintenance and repair costs may be as much as the laptop's price depend... My computer never makes a sound - I can't stand all that beeping racket. So when I got it I was assured it would make no sound other than the fan - Which I've worked hard to reduce to hardly any sound at all.

However, on our lovely Friday the 13th I turned on the computer and it beeped once at the XP screen. It lagged to hell won't have ya so I rebooted it. Then it beeped twice at XP screen but didn't lag as horrid. So I opened Internet Explorer 6 and it opened like 12 pages.. I rebooted, tried again.. Same result so I did a restore back to the 9th. Fourth try it did it again. So then I looked up what two beeps mean online and read to take the CMOS (button) battery out. Took it out for a few minutes, put it back in. Rebooted to try and it worked fine no beeps. Restarted several times and it worked just fine. Went to work for a few hours, came home and it worked like a charm.

Few hours later I turned it off for a short while, back on and it beeped and opened 12 pages. And now it's off till I can figure out whatever is going on.

I dont know the computer specs much, but I know it's got plenty of everything.

I read what 1 beep means but I can't find what it means at the XP screen. I don't have long online so if someone could please write back with as much detail as you're willing to spare.. I'd appreciate much!

Seeing as resetting your CMOS did the trick the first time, I would consider getting a new battery. It sounds like your current one is running out of juice.

Answer:Computer beeps once at XP Welcome screen

Ok, so we have have a new symptom: I ran a full system virus scan, which took about 4-some hours, I went from it opening 60 pages down to 38 pages. And now it's down to opening only one page when I click on explorer. I have the internet cord unplugged so even if it is a virus, nothing can be transmitted. And it still beeps just once at the welcome screen.

Except now it loads msconfig, changes something too quick for me to notice and reboots. That is definately a virus, but I looked at msconfig and nothing starts up other than pccillin and I can't see anything new on any of the boot screens. Does anyone know the virus name or filename? Maybe I can search for it?

I currently own a Toshiba Tecra. I was just finished getting rid of a virus and restarted my computer, but once I did, it would not go past the welcome screen. It says 'welcome' for about 2 minutes before bringing me to the computers' accounts. I would click on one, and it would say it was loading my preferences, but then it would just bring me back to choose an account. I waited a while to start the computer again because I thought maybe it was over heated or something, but still the same problemI have tried to turn on the computer in safe mode, safe mode with networking and with last known good configuration, but none of this has worked. Anyone know what I can do?

Some Anti Malware software(spybot) will prompt you to back-up your previous data before performing a system scan on your hard drive  for spyware and other threats. In case some data has been removed because of potential threats and have cause your computer to act differently, you could always undo previous changes by clicking the recovery button. Has your current Anti malware prompted you to make a back-up?

I'm terrible with computers, and I think I've made the problem worse by messing around with the Set Up...Keep in mind I'm a simple country bumpkin.

It began when last night when I was on my computer; an antivirus software that I haven't seen before popped up and started scanning, and it found a gigantic number of viruses and trojans and keyloggers, etc. The computer takes it upon itself to shut down suddenly. I start it back up, and the boot up starts looping.

For whatever silly reason, I thought going into Set Up (By pressing Del when it gets to the Winfast screen) and messing around with the options would help. I put everything to optimized settings...but then, when that didn't work, I put it to default settings. It started giving me an error about floppy disk failing (40), but I fixed that.

However, now it loads Winfast, goes into a black screen, and then on to a lighter shaded one; then it freezes. It won't respond to my ERD Commander either; infact, it won't respond to anything.

I would LOVE to fix this problem without having to delete my files; I have animations on my computer, my novel, homework on my computer...What do I do!?

Answer:Computer can't get past Winfast screen

Uhoh. I tried something called Super Boot and now it won't even get to the Winfast screen. V.v

I have a 2007 Gateway Laptop Model MT3423. I recently installed windows xp on it. It worked fine for a couple days. One day it just turned off and when i went to turn it on again it would boot to the first screen (Gateway Screen) then to a blank screen with a white dash flashing in the corner. The display is lit, the lights on the computer are on and the fan is running. I can go to the BIOS Menu but thats it. When I put a cd in it will say press any key to boot from cd and then after you press that the screen goes the same again. HELP, I need to fix my computer. When you try to type stuff into the blank screen the computer just makes beep noises

The computer is an Acer Extensa 4630 laptop Vista O/S. This is my mother in laws computer it was running slow so I figured i would try to help her out. I helped her out alright lol.

The computer was fine albeit slow until I ran Ccleaner and the registry cleaner (from the same program) c cleaner removed 7.2 gigs of stuff. I saved a back up before the reg fix. I then did a disk clean up, after that I scheduled a disk check and restarted the computer. Upon restarting the computer will not go past the bios screen.

I tried F8 to put it in safe mode so I could reverse the disk check. I selected safe mode hit enter then the same thing, bios screen then black. Tried F8 again and this time I tried a restore it started to restore then it shut down mid way with an error. The error was " the instruction at 0x7444060a referenced memory at 0x00000000 the memory could not be read" After that I tried F8 again and tried a memory test and it went until about 53% and shut off again. This time with no error message.

I am not sure if this is by coincidence or if I caused this. I don't think i caused this to happen because I do this maintenance on my families computers all the time with no problems.

She also had a similar problem about six months ago after a few attempts and holding down the start button for 30 seconds it has worked fine until yesterday.

Hey, I use a windows 10 computer an just in the past 24 hours when before it was perfectly okay an working.
Getting to it an running through what happened I turn it on like regular although the splash screen stays up a lot longer than normal. It then shows a black screen which it does normally with that type letter flashing. It moves to windows 10 spinning loading screen then shows the login screen. What usually takes 30 seconds took 10 minuites. I go to log in with my password but it says it's incorrect. Nobody has been near the computer since it was turned off so I tried a few more times incase i typed it in wrong same issue. I restart it nothing I spent a time googling but no result I then type a password I havnt used on the pc since I changed it in 8 months it acepts it. This I found odd so after I think the problem is fixed this shows up "the user profile service failed the sign-in" I am already frustrated spending 2 hours restarting to find for some reason my old password works an this shows up.
I try it on safe mode same problem, I restart, I do the fix start up but fails an no changes is made. Leaving me to be stuck still. I try looking up for changing the register an get rid of the bad user account promting me to activeate the hidden admin which I've done before for others. Then sit as it gets ready for 30 mins for it to say critical error with the start up leaving me to sign out.
I go to send it back to a older save restoring it an can't do it an fails leaving no... Read more

I recently installed Windows 7 on my computer. Fresh install, remove everything else that was previously on the computer. It installed fine, with no problems. I tried to change the screen resolution, and the screen went black and would not revert. Frustrated, I re-reinstalled 7, and everything went swimmingly. Until, of course, the 2nd reboot, when my computer would not load past the computer boot up screen (the screen that gives options such as Boot Order, ect.). It simply goes to a black screen with the "_" underscore, and then "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD . . . .", then back to the blue boot up screen.

I've tried re-re-reinstalling, and I still get the same result. This happens after the reboot you must complete after choosing your name and password.

I've tried the Repair option, and it did not find any faults within the system.

I've also used this CD to install 7 on my laptop, which worked great.

Please, any advice as to what I should do would be so great!

Answer:Won't get past computer boot screen

Can you get into safe mode by hitting the F8 key during the boot? If so, try changing the video resolution back to where it was.

What type of video output are you using and what type of monitor/s?

Before, my computer doesn't even enter the login screen.  Now after I deleted a few things from a virus scan, after I login it says finding preferences in that blue box then logging off.  It doesn't even let me into my desktop.  So basically I have no way of accessing my computer and even safe mode doesn't work.  Is there a way to recover my computer and make it work again?

I have a P100 motherboard, First it had probs with lots of windows problems, I reinstalled a few times, and never fixed it. Got progressively worse, and now it will not boot at all. It hangs up on the CMOS startup screen.

in a spot where it should say the amount of system RAM, the cursor blinks there and the figures instead of 32 megs, it is in binary or something, Its those weird characters. The initial RAM check was OK, but it cant' get past the next screen. Its only an old P100, but if it can be easily fixed, I wont toss the sucker. I hear there is a bios clear pin but how do I find that. Would it clear the RAM entry? Seems the bios checks the RAM each time it boots. I have replaced the RAM with other SIMMs and dosnt' make any difference.

gimme the word, To toss or not to toss???

Answer:computer can't get past CMOS screen

Some mbs have a jumper to clear the bios. You will have to look at your mb manual. If you do not have a manual or the mb does not have a jumper to clear the bios, just remove the cmos battery for a few minutes. That will also clear the bios. Can you enter the bios? If so I would load system defaults [after making a written record of hd settings], then try booting the computer.

Hello, I am posting after my topic in the HJT forum. I was being assisted, when now my computer won't turn on at all.

It seems my laptop has done the same thing as my computer (which apparently has the same alike virus). It turns off after the Windows XP boot screen. My laptop runs on Windows Media Center Edition, and did not come with any discs with which to boot up from (like my computer did). It only came with a disc to wipe the whole drive. It will not boot into Safe Mode, or ANY of the options when you tap F8 in the beginning, as I have tried this already.

Answer:Computer Will Not Go Past Boot Screen

Have you used any programs like Logon Studio? I you have and you applied a logon screen which won't work then you will need to put your main hard drive in another computer and replace a file called LogonUI.exe with the original one. (other alternatives are doing a clean install or just repairing the file, system restore or take it into a computer store and it will cost about $20 if you tell them this)

On the other hand if you haven't used logon screens editiors then it may be a virus or the LogonUI.exe file is damaged. Mabye there is a virus in LogonUI.exe.

If you tell me if any error messages come up then I can help you more.

Sorry if you didn't understand. New user.

Good Afternoon,

My 12 year old daughter was working on her report last night. She pulled a couple of pictures from some website (she is not suppose to do that without me) and went to print the report. It would not print. When she called me to fix it, the computer was trying to install unknown hardware???? Then the idiot that I am, while I am talking to her about the importance of not googling pics without me being there, decides to reboot the computer. I know better than to do this but..... was having a bad day. Let me add that when I asked she said that she got a message from panda but it wasn't red so she didn't think she needed to let me know. I am not sure I am posting to the right forum, but here is my info:

I am running Win XP on a Compaq presario 3045a. All updates are loaded. I run Panda Antivirus + Firewall 2008. It is also current and ran clean 2 or 3 days ago. When I boot up it shows the black screen with Compaq in red. It doesn't go past that screen. I have tried F8 to go into safe mode and F10 for rom based setup without success. Frankly I have tried all F keys and nothing works. The cd drive does read but it doesn't load anything. I have tried the Panda install disk (hoping I could scan for virus), Compaq disks and XP Home edition disks. It did not work. I also tried to use an external cd rom drive knowing it probably wouldn't work and I was right. Let me add that I have an external floppy if necessary to fix this problem... Read more

Hi and welcome to Bleepingcomputer. What operating system are you using it is XP am I correct since you posted it in the Xp forum?Try going into safe mode by using the F8 method. If you have any trouble booting in safe mode please read this tutorial:Safe mode Safe mode allows you to get into Windows to remove any drivers or software which you recently installed. Do you remeber any recent programs that you installed that might of caused this?If you can't think of any recently-installed software that could have caused it, then try takeing it to a repair shop or something like that and see if anyone can fix it. This could also be a hard drive failure. Try taping F1 and F8 key again and see if that works, I know that you tried all the F keys but just try it again, you never know... read here for some additional information: hope I have helped you Regards,Extremeboy

Check to see if you have any USB drives plugged in or CD/DVD disks inserted and remove them. Then try rebooting. Your machine may be trying to boot to the wrong drive because of the priority given.

Hello,The other day I decided to reset my computer in hopes of having it run more smoothly. I don't really have a lot saved on it besides a few games, but it said I have low storage memory. I save all my music, documents, etc. on my flash drives. I've done a reset before with no problems so I am very confused as to what went wrong this time.So I go to the menu & click reset (all drives, just erase my files as I'm keeping the PC, etc.). After a minute, I would look at it & it would be at 3 percent, then 5, but soon it would say a problem occurred while resetting. Okay, so I tried to reset it again & the same thing happened. The highest it got to was 38 percent. I tried it 2 or 3 more times & eventually gave up. When I tried to start my computer back up it would freeze on the HP logo screen then go blank (black screen). I knew something was wrong because the little symbol that rolls around while the screen loads up did not pop up.I turned it off then tried to start it up again & ran into the same problem. I looked up some possible solutions to this on my phone & none worked (holding the power button for however long). I pushed the F11 button & was able to make it to the recovery screen. I pushed F8 for startup settings, but the screen would flicker & not go to it.While still on the recovery screen, I pushed F8 & decided to run a system test. I ran the extensive one & saw that my computer passed it. This gave me hope that my computer is sa... Read more

Computer beeps every 2-3 seconds or so. Running Windows XP Home edition. But basically, nothing is working.

(actually I couldn't find the model I just know it hasan Intel chip on it) I then put it in and looked for a way to get a driver, that I couldn't find, then I disconnected the disk drive D:/ and put in my old HD (2GB) to get some files, which I did then i put the disk drive back and for ome reason i gave up on the modems took them out inspected them and then my comp wont send a display to the screen it just beeps in two different tones and then i have to unplug it to turn it off. The modem might now be compatible with your operating system. More information on your modem would be useful. Things like how old it is, and what kind it is, etc. This information could help us make a proper diagnosis.[glb]Flame[/glb]

Hey all, I am trying to fix my friends computer and at the start the computer makes 3 beeping noises. I have googled that and apparently it means that the video card is shot or the ram? I had a few video cards just laying around so i tried all of them but none of them worked! So I replaced the ram 64mb ram and that got rid of the beeping noise but the computer still wouldnt boot. I figured this was because it wasnt large enough to boot windows XP so my buddy went out and bougth a 256mb and I installed that and the machine still begins to beep. Any suggestions are much appreciated! thank you in advance.

My computer started having this issue today, when i got home I went to go on my computer and it was on one of the first loading screens where it shows the details of your HD, slave and master drives etc and on the bottom i believe it said "Internal system drive error... please insert system disk to continue"

after seeing that, i let my computer cool down a bit since it felt pretty warm to the touch inside (3 hours), but now when it boots up it asks to select a windows mode, which i choose last known configuration, and after it gets to the windows screen with the bar that signifies loading, the monitor shuts off for about 2-3 seconds then it begins to reboot all over again so it keeps repeating itself.

i have no idea what could be causing this problem, any advice would be great, would love to fix this as soon as i can :\

Answer:Computer won't load past windows screen

1) Try Safe Mode omong the options in the list that you see, If it fails than:
2) Put your bootable XP cd, boot from it, choose "new installation of winxp", While scanning your drive(s) setup will detect your current WinXP installation and will prompt you to repair. Choose Yes.
If this fails than:
3)Completely reformat your entire hard disk (or only boot partition) and install winxp on it, as you would do on new computer.

Hey guys,

I got up this morning, and Windows was still up, but, there were no icons on the screen - just the wallpaper. It had been left on. Nothing worked, even CTRL-ALT-DELETE. I just cut it off, and when it came up, the "HP INVENT" screen flashes, but, nothnig happens after that. Cannot get to even the Windows XP screen.

I went into the BIOS and it apparently still recognizes the hard drive and the memory.

The computer has Windows XP Media Center Edition. I have an extry copy of XP, SP2 laying around. I put the CD in and got to the screen where I could choose "recovery console." Should I try to do that?

Yesterday a friend was on my computer and at one point i glanced and noticed while she had an internet window up, it was like the Start/task bar completely disappeared. When she minimized the window, all i could see was my wallpaper. No task bar, no icons, i tried the task manager and that didnt show either. I attempted to restart the computer and what happened was this:

The Intel screen with the option to press F2 for Bios appears.
After it disappears it continues to the Windows (XP) loading screen with the blue bar.
That is all fine and normal, except for the fact that after that windows loading screen, it does not go to the blue user login screen. Its black for a couple seconds then goes right back to the Intel screen.

My computer was very healthy, no viruses, never slow, i dont even have much on it.
Ive tried booting it but everytime it claims 'Boot failure, press any key to continue' repeatedly in white text on a black back.
I cannot even system restore because i cannot login to windows without that blue screen.

Also, occasionally a black screen with the same white text with come up saying,
"We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might caused this. etc etc."

Then gives me the options to try:
1) Safe Mode
2) Safe Mode with Networking
3) Safe Mode with Command Prompt
4) Last known good configuration
5) Start Windows Normally

Answer:Computer won't go past Windows loading screen.

Hi Tetoh, Unfortunately this has been happening to alot of people lately. If you have a winXP disk, its a pain but you can fix it. I am going to give you a link with 10 ways to fix this problem. You might have to press F2 to enter your bios and change the boot order so that it boots the CD rom first so that you can run the XP cd and get to the repair console. Read this entire document before doing anything so you can see which option will work best for your situation. What seems to be happening is that the boot.ini file is somehow being corrupted and this is not allowing the computer to boot up. This link shows how to fix this by rebuilding the file. I'm not sure of your technical skills as you didn't say, or even if you have a win XP cd, but I will monitor this thread and check on you to see your progress first thing in the morning. If you are able to fix this issue with this link please let us know so that we can assist others and mark this thread solved using the quick tools located at the top of the thread. I hope this will help you.

Thank you

Hello all. I wasn't sure where to post this exactly, so I hope this is the right place. If not, can a mod please move it? Thanks.

My girlfriend has a laptop that's a few years old running Windows XP. A couple weeks ago, it stooped booting into Windows. Anything after the post wouldn't show up and the computer just froze on a blank black screen. Her CD drive doesn't work, so I took out the hard drive and placed it in an enclosure. Plugged it into my computer and I can access everything. I've already scanned the disk with antivirus software and MBAM and then copied the entire drive over to one of my external HDs in case something happened to it.

I'm running a new laptop with Vista Home Premium 64 bit and that supports USB booting. I'm trying to determine if the MBR on her hard drive was damaged or if there's some other hardware issue on her laptop by booting the drive from USB. I set my BIOS to boot from USB first, but it doesn't boot from the external drive. Does this mean the MBR is damaged? If so, how can I restore the MBR to make the drive bootable again?

Additionally, would it be possible to do a reinstall of Windows to the laptop hard drive using my computer (seeing as the CD Drive on her computer is broken)? I can't swap out my hard drive with hers because my computer uses SATA and her drive is ATA.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

I can feel both harddrives moving, i have checked all the cables in the computer. I can't even boot from a CD with my XP recovery disk..

Good afternoon. My apologies if this thread is in the incorrect forum.

Here's the issue. I started up my desktop just fine today. No problems at all. I get online and go to a website, I forget which one. One I haven't been to before, for sure. As soon as I access the site, Kapersky starts flipping out about some rootkit virus. I start the virus scan and it notifies me that I need to reboot my computer, so naturally, I do so.

Upon restarting my computer, It goes to the screen asking for safemode and what not. I start it normally, and it goes to the XP splash screen. It loads for a few seconds, then restarts. Finding this rather frustrating, I restart it and choose safe mode with the same results.

I assume this is a boot sector error, so in order to try to reinstall the operating system, I insert the XP boot disk that I have. My computer allows me to attempt to boot from CD, but nothing happens, and it continues to the safe mode screen. I press F8 and choose disable automatic restart on system fail, and it comes up with a BSOD after the XP splash screen. It tells me I need to run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption and to restart. Since I cannot get to the command prompt, I am unable to comply. The error at the bottom of the screen is as follows.

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0x00000024 (0x001902FE, 0xBA4EB380, 0xBA4AEB07C, 0x8AD54805)

Hello, I'm new here. Sorry for posing another thread but I couldn't find one similar enough to my question. Anyway, my laptop began moving incredibly slow last night, like the cursor would hardly move and it sounded like it was running extra hard. I turned it off and this morning it won't load past the start up screen. And still, the windows loading icon spins incredibly slow.

Eventually it goes to a black screen for some time, then the automatic repair icon appears, then "diagnosing your pc". It made it past that once and got to the advanced option screen but was moving so slowly that I couldn't click on anything.

Not really sure what to do! Anyone have an idea? Thank you!

A while ago I was having a lot of problems with my personal computer so I decided to format it and delete everything using DBAN boot & nuke, however I did a secure format which wiped all the drives several times and afterwards I could not get the computer to boot from a CD. This is exactly the same problem that I had with my brother's computer after using DBAN on it so I was a bit stupid to attempt it on mine, however I had done it before on my computer with no adverse effects so I thought I was safe.

I checked all the HDD jumpers and BIOS settings, even bought a new HDD as I thought that may be the problem but it still wouldn't work. So in the end I just hooked the new HDD up to the general family computer and installed Windows XP onto it with that. This worked fine with no problems at all and Windows XP loaded with no problems. I then took the HDD back up to my room and re-connected it to my computer. I booted the computer up and it booted up to the loading screen and got no further. This is still the point I am stuck at now and I don't really know where to go from here.

Some background to the machine: I am using a Pentium 3 I believe, 200gb HDD, Asus Mobo, quite an old setup but and it's had problems such as this in the past (although not identical) and I've always managed to patch it up. I am buying a laptop for myself but I really want to fix this so I can give it to my bro for Christmas so any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Computer won't boot past loading screen

It might be that the hard drive you took back to the computer in your room has problems loading drivers on another machine. If you originally installed XP on one machine and installed drivers for that machine, I would think once you try swapping the drive to another different computer that some devices would complain on the motherboard.

HiWe have an old Time desktop that is about 10 years old. It has been working fine but yesterday it froze on me and I had to switch it off by holding the on button on the tower and today it froze again and when I turned it back on I had a blue screen saying UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME and to check recently added hardware and software and to try to Diasble BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. It said go in using safe mode to disable options but when I try to get into safe mode it takes me back to the same blue screen. My brother was playing Gunz and the graphics screwed up, never happened before. Nothing was responding so the only way i figured to use the computer was to shut it down and restart it. We held the button on the computer and it shut down. When we restarted a BSOD came up (sorry didnt write down the addresses) and it restarted again. Since then It wont start up. However safe mode is working, system restore doesn't want to work however.

I dont believe its hardware, maybe Graphics if anything.
Compaq has a setting to restore all to default, no cd.
Id rather not have 2 use it. But will if completely necessary....

Any help would be appreciated .

yesterday out of the blue my computer gets stuck on the splash screen, i turn on my computer and when i see its stuck in the splash screen i try to go into POST and see what was up, but i cant get out of the splash screen, and i cant go into safe mode or anything, i cant even go into BIOS. However, if i spam the hell out of the tab key when starting up my computer, it takes me into POST, if i wait untill the splash screen is on i never get into POST, but when i do it only gets to the point where it says, memory OK. the only thing i have considered so far was that maybe its related to my power source, as i just installed a new 7600 gt card and I still have a 350 watt power supply, probably not smart but it seemed to work. I havent tried anything hardware-wise yet and im looking for suggestions.

Answer:My computer cannot boot past the splash screen please help!

You have a hardware failure. It could be the "new" power supply, bad memory or a failing hard drive. If your motherboard has on-board video, remove the 7600GT and see if the system boots

Okay, so I woke up my computer from sleep mode yesterday, and it worked perfectly fine for all of five minutes before everything except my cursor froze. I waited for it to unfreeze or give me a "not responding" message for about twenty minutes, but when it didn't, I manually shut it down by pressing the power button, since I couldn't get to the start menu. But when I turned it back on, an error message appeared. I don't remember exactly what it said, but it gave me the option to either: "Launch startup repair (reccomended)" or "Start Windows normally". So I chose to launch the startup repair since it said that it would fix anything that had caused my computer to stop working, but it's been "searching for problems" for about five hours now! The blue bar just keeps scrolling past, but other than that, nothing's happening. Does anyone know how to fix this? Or should I call someone to check it out? Will I lose my files? I tried to "Start Windows normally" as well, but nothing happened at all... Oh, and it's an Acer laptop with Windows 7 on it.
Thank you so much for the help!

How to run chkdsk from the Recovery ConsoleBoot your Vista or Windows 7 installation DVD
When you see "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD", press Enter
At the "Language" screen hold the "Shift" key and press the F10 key to open a Command Window

Let this run to completion undisturbed..

My dad purchased a computer about 2-3 years ago and it was working fine. After a while our router broke so we just put the computer in the garage with the rest of the junk. I was trying to make use of some of the parts so I took the hard drive, formatted it and used it as an external drive. I understand that there is no more OS left on the drive, so I popped in my Windows XP disc so I can install a new OS but I can't get it past the first screen. There is not even an option to get into the bios. I tried hitting all the F keys but its nothing, the computer won't get past the "eMachines" page. What could it be and what do you guys think I should do to resolve this problem?

I was loading a game on my computer, purchased legally from Wal-Mart. I say this because searching the net seeing if this has happened to others, I found that the illegal shared version on the download sites has had a virus in it, but mine was loaded from a legitimate copy from a store. After loading the additional software needed to play online, my McAfee told me there was a virus. It was Internet Security 2010, and after searching I found this to be Malware. I had just used the forum to remove the Unique8 virus from the laptop, and liked the Malwarebytes program. I couldn't get that to load, every time it would hijack the .exe file. I tried running the Rkill program with all four variations to no avail. Then I ran SuperAnti-Spyware and that actually loaded. It told me the virus was removed and needed to reboot. After the reboot, the Welcome screen would load and that is where it would stop. I didn't have that as part of the boot process and when you click the Administrator tab, my screen loads the walpaper picture, but then goes back to Welcome.

I tried starting in Safe Mode, but could not get it to boot that way. Also, I tried to use my Gateway disc to just restore the computer and that would not work either. That is my only XP disc, the one that Gateway sent to restore the computer, I don't have an actual XP only disc.

The computer is a Gateway, I had just restored it after installing a new DVD drive. It should have been upgraded to SP3.

Boot from this disc in your laptop, then copy the files from failed HDD to another external hard drive connected to notebook. Take out the failed hard drive out. Connect it to another computer using SATA to USB adapter. Use Windows explorer to copy the files you need from HDD to another external hard drive. after copying the data, Tap away F2 or ESC key as soon as you power on laptop to go into System Diagnostics, perform extensive hard drive and memory tests. I then restarted my computer and after the hp screen I again got the black screen with blinking underscore. That is where I'm at at this point. Hi-thank you for allowing me to post.

I got a virus that redirected me to phony websites, and would not allow me to go to any real malaware or spyware removal website. My computer was then unable to run Super anti-spyware, which had been on my computer. I had a friend give me a usb drive with super Anti spyware and Malaware Bytes, I renamed it as I have seen you recommend. I had to reinstall super anti spyware and open in alternate start mode. That worked so I restarted my computer and tried to run Malaware in safe mode. That didn't work and I got a strange error message. All I had to do though, was uninstall and reinstall and then it worked (in regular start up mode) So I ran Super anti spyware and malaware at the same time. After they were both done malaware said it had removed certain problems, but that it was unable to remove other objects, but that I needed to restart my computer and it would remove them. Ever since I've been having this issue:
Trying to start in safe mode, safe mode with networking, or last known good configuration, I get to the screen where I should be able to click on a user name, but the screen just comes up with windows logo and won't go to the option where you click on the user name-it just stays stuck.

And at one point the computer just turned off by itself. I would like to send you the Malaware report but I cannot even log in to my computer. I do remember seeing various trojans on there.

Computer is
Lenovo All In One Flex20 Multi-touch (purchased 2014)
Orig OS was Win 8.1 64 bit
installed free Win10 in 2015 when offered by MS (so no copy of lic #)
Processor 4th Gen Intel Core i5-420GB
8 GB PC3-12800 SDRAM
500 GB 5400 RPM SSHD

Problem: Initally after an update several months ago the mouse pointer started
behaving randomly. It constantly dropped to the bottom right corner opening the
various items there. It became impossible to use. I searched on web at both Lenovo and Microsoft for solution but found nothing usable. I used to run some scans and fixes in Safe Mode and then as Computer is in a place I visit on a regular basis I had to leave for a month unfixed. When booted upon return problem returned.

Yesterday I ran system in safe mode again and mouse pointer behaved. Then I added networking and ran some diagnostics and it still behaved. I rebooted to regular start-up and problem immediately manifested. So today I went into Admin Tools>System Config and chose Diagnostic Startup. Upon reboot the system will not load anything after the lenovo splash. It simply has long circle of attempt and after 30 min nothing. So cannot run SysInfo - sorry. There is no way to get in to change the option to a reg or Safe mode boot that I know of.

I am happy to do a complete restore. All important data on system has been backed up. The original system comes with an F2 OneKeyRecovery and I can get that to load. (I experimented to see) However if I do that I ... Read more

I have been having probs with my comp keep freezing and going real slow [done full virus+spyware checks]so i decided to reinstall windows, it went thru the 1st part ok coppied all the files etc-saved config, then restarted, however thats when the problems started, it kept on restarting over a over, saying RESTARTING SETUP.. but setup would not begin, i tried taking out the windows disc, that didnt work i tried turning of the comp to try to restert it normally but it just kept restarting setup with nothing actually starting, so i tried changing the boot order, which is wher i compleatly screwed things up as now it will only go onto the 1st screen where it says press delete for setup, however nothing happens now when i press delete! i have even tried changing hard drives but the same happens, it goes to the 1st screen and stops, what have i done and how can i fix it? i have all my work on there which i need for Monday. please help

Answer:computer wont boot past 1st screen

Sounds like a motherboard or other hardware problem, which could be making it freeze. Unplug all drives and all PCI cards so all you have plugged in is the power supply, processor, memory and graphics card. Plug in the monitor and power lead and switch it on (you can leave everything else for now). If it freezes again, see if you can get hold of spare parts to try. If none of the spare parts work, it could be the motherboard. If it gets past the first screen with everything unplugged, plug everything back in one by one until you find the component that's causing it to freeze. To get your work back, plug the hard drive(s) into another computer and copy it off there. If you've reformatted the hard drive with the work on it, then it will have been deleted and you can try a recovery program to get it back (click here or click here).
