wndr3400 router solid amber power light

Question: wndr3400 router solid amber power light

Hi,

Trying to set up the Netgear WNDR3400 router with my Roadrunner modem. I have an ethernet cable running from the router to my laptop.

The laptop shows that there is not any kind of network access--not LAN, not Internet. Needless to say, I am unable to get to the wireless setup.

I notice that the power light on the router is a solid amber (orange). The 2.4GHz radio light is solild green, the 5GHz radio light is solid blue, the LAN light if off, the wireless light is solid amber, and the four ethernet port lights are all solid green (I am using one port to connect to my laptop).

I tried resetting the router several times. I tried power cycling the modem, router, and laptop several times. Nothing worked. It just seems to me that the Netgear router is dead on arrival.

Is my suspicion correct? Or are the other possibilities?

Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: wndr3400 router solid amber power light

Hi

The Green for 2.4ghz and Blue for 5ghz are perfect and normal, the orange light is a bit worrying as it should turn to green in less than 1 minute, and if you have powered it off a few times and also reset to factory default a few times I would suspect the unit is indeed faulty, so exchange for a new one. (the Netgear manual on pg 32 also confirms this HERE)

Just as a thought, have you plugged in a Ethernet cable from PC to router and tried to access the routers control panel, then maybe try a router firmware update? but as its likely new why should you go through these motions.

hello,

my friend is having a problem with a netgear n600 wireless dual band gigabit router WNDR3700v3 in that it will not connect to the internet. When you power it up, the power light stays amber. this used to work before but something happened and we are not sure what happened but now it does not work.. I went thru the automatic setup again and that does not correct it.

we contacted the netgear support and the lady had me do a ipconfig and we could not see any ip addresses. she said that the interface settings were corrupt.

the router is out of warranty and to have her correct it, my friend would have had to re-activate the warranty at 199.00 for a two year unlimited plan or a 1 year unlimited plan for 129.00. he did not want to do that.

I am hoping that by submitting this to the forum, we could get this router fixed. I have a linksys router and that is what I will be using to communicate to the forum. my friend has this router hooked to a hp desktop running windows 7. if you tell me to do something with the router, I will have to disconnect my linksys router from my dell windows xp machine and hook it to the netgear.

please let me know if there is anything that you need from me in order to help in correcting this.

thank you in advance for the help

Hi,
I have changed my gpu to gtx780 and psu to cooler master b700 about 2 years ago. I haven't played any game for a long time. I tried to play arma 3, total war etc. yesterday but i have a black screen issue. After about 15-20 min (arma 3 doesn't even launch) black screen comes.( i can still hear the game).
I opened the case and saw an amber light which is under "aux-pwr". It doesn't blink, solid. What does it mean? Do i have to change the psu?

Thanks.

I have a HP desktop model p6142p case that had a failed motherboard (bad capacitors). After replacing the power supply and a motherboard with one from a DELL Inspiron 546 (because it was only $30 on amazon), the PC functions just fine with one exception: The power light in the HP case instead of normally being blue is amber. I'm not sure if this is indicates an issue or if there's simply an incompatibility with the dell motherboard and the HP power light. There are no known errors from post (single beep on bootup). The case power light is initially blue for about a second when the PC is initially powered on, but immediately turns solid amber from then on. I have ran Dell's online PC diagnostics which detects the PC as an Inspiron 546 with UNKNOWN service tag and reports no hardware issues.

Should I ignore the solid amber light and go on or should I be concerned?

PC:
HP model p6142p case

AMD Phenom 9650 Quad-Core (socket AM2) 2.3Ghz

Answer:Solid Amber Power Light, but no known issues

Sounds like the dell board just doesn't
display the same way as the HP.
Might make it difficult to see that the
computer is in standby mode,if you use standby.
I don't see it causing any major issues otherwise though.
I have an HP board that flashes green in standby.
That thing was annoying when I was trying to sleep.

My Optiplex 780
- will not post
- will not beep
- will not output any video

When I push the power button,
- Diagnostic lights 1 & 4 flash
- Power button is of solid amber

When I turn the computer off:
- if I press the Power Supply test button, it illuminates green
If I disconnect the power cable
- A tiny LED on the circuit board (next to AUX PWR label) stays amber for a minute or two.

Diagnostic lights 1 & 4 are not documented in the Dell manual. I have tried to disconnect all peripherals, all drives, all cards, even all RAM, still no POST no beep, no video: just the fan running, and diagnostic lights flashing.

Any hope for this computer?

Good afternoon, couple of days ago my computer which is not paid off yet and out of warranty went into a no boot with a soiid Amber light. When I cracked open the case I found my cpu fan was nearly frozen very stiff to turn. I cleaned it out but now curious if my cpu died or the PSU? The interesting part if I unplug all external perpherals from the computer and test it get the solid amber light and on the back by the PSU the green light is out as soon as I turn on the power. If I unplug the power let the system discharge then plug the power back in before turning on the power the green light on the PSU is lit.
Does this sound like a PSU issue? Could it be the CPU? I'm getting no post beeps or anything powering up. Also is this a specialized PSU or can I use any standard ATX PSU this is in a mid tower. The service code is <ADMIN NOTE:Service tag removed per privacy policy>.
Thank you for anyone's help in advance just frustrating making payments on a paperweight.

Does the processor heatsink fan rotate freely?
Does the power supply fan work?
A solid amber power light indicates there may be a power problem or an internal device malfunction.
The Inspiron 530 Troubleshooter and Diagnostic Codes are HERE.
Most generic standard ATX power supply units can be installed, with either a 24-pin or 20+4-pin main motherboard power connector, with or without the on/off switch.
You should be able to buy a compatible power supply from either a local or online computer store.
Note: A power supply with four SATA power connectors, is required.

Hello. So my Dell dimension 4600 just lost mointor/video signal one day. All the fans, drives and CPU were still workin away. I figured ok great my video card is blown(in my case the MB). So I install a new MB. Still no video or monitor signal....I have checked the diagnostic lights on the back and none of them are lite. I have tested the power supply - seems fine. I have unplugged everything other than the CPU, main and second power to MB. I am getting no error beeps. I am so lost here!! I need some help please!! Thanx

Answer:Dell 4600 solid power amber light - no signal to monitor..help!

I would have tried another monitor before buying another board.Try hooking up a different monitor to the computer.  If that doesn't work try another monitor cable. If you have no other monitor, try hooking up your current monitor to another computer.  If it works then it means there's something going on with your computer.  If not, then the problem is most likely that  your monitor is bad.

Hi All,
I have replaced a EVGA GT 730 video card with the EVGA GTX 1070 Founder's Edition video card on a Dell XPS 8700. Once the installation was finished I powered the PC on and only got an amber light on the power button. I powered off and replaced the card with the old one, checked for any loose cables, and tested the power supply successfully. I am still getting an amber light with the old card back in. My fear is the motherboard short circuited. Please tell me I am wrong and someone else had this issue and was able to fix it!?

Answer:Solid Amber light on power button after installing GTX 1070 video card on a XPS 8700

Do you have an upgraded power supply unit? A min 500w psu is required and the 8700 doesn't have that.  see this-- www.evga.com/.../product.aspx  and this-

Hi,
Bought recently the new XPS 13 and have a weird problem.
The battery indicator always shows a solid amber light when it is plugged in (100% battery) and what is more strange when it's turned off.
I have updated BIOS although I think I had the latest one anyway.
There are no other evident problems.
Please advise, thanks.

Answer:New XPS 13 - solid amber light always on

The battery charge LED for the XPS 13 will glow amber if the battery is low on charge.  With the AC adapter connected and the system turned off the battery should charge fairly quickly and then the LED should turn white indicating that the battery is no longer low in charge and is being charged. Once fully charged the LED should go dark.
Battery Charge LED —
LED that indicates battery charge state.

Illuminates white while plugged in and charging. When the charging is completed LED turns off.

Battery level is low, LED illuminates in amber color.
Please reply back if it looks like the system is having problems charging the battery.

I don't know why the first desktop I've ever owned that broke down is a Dell, but it definitely upsets me seeing as how I spent over $2000 on my XPS 420, and less than $600 on any other computer I've ever owned (which I used for 4+ years on average).  I've had this computer for exactly 1.5 years.  It's had a couple of glitches, such as the HDMI cable not working if the computer gets shut off, computer turning itself on sporadically when it is in sleep mode, etc... but this morning it stopped functioning completely. What's worse about all of this, is the $2000 computer I paid for lacks customer support, I have to pay for it.  Of all the "cheapo" computers I've used in the past, I was ALWAYS able to call the manufacturer for free if there was any issue, regardless of how long I'd owned it.
I was awoken by the whirring of the main fan on my computer (another one of those times when the computer decides it's time to wake itself up without anyone's input), except this time the computer never finished it's turn on phase (you know, when the fan quiets down and the thing powers up), I just kept hearing the fan that sounded like a skipping record (sound of it went up and down very fast, over and over and over again, and never stopped).  I looked at it, and the power button was solid amber.  I tried shutting it down and restarting, and again, the same thing.  I went through Dell's lengthy online he... Just as above It will make a sound as if one of the fans is running, or trying to run.  A soft repedable skiping sound is heard.
And of corse I am now out of warenty.

Hey folks
A few weeks back, I had the four beeps and amber light on my 8300. Following forum advice, I reset my memory into their slots and trying booting again. This time, no four beeps, but amber light and the screen still blank.
I had to go away for a while, and when I tried again on my return, I was getting the four beeps again. Reset memory once more, but this time it remains along with the amber light.
Help me Dell forums, you're my only hope.

Answer:XPS 8300 four beeps plus solid amber light

The four beeps is a memory failure like you've read before. If you have more than one memory stick, try isolating it down to a certain stick. Like having one stick in and turning on, then swapping for the other stick.

My Inspiron 530 won't turn on, when I press the power button the fans start and it sounds like it wants to boot, but won't. The light on the front is a steady amber light, not flashing.
What could be wrong? I thought it may be the motherboard, but now I'm reading it could be the power supply. The light on the back, under the power plug is green.
Are there some troubleshooting steps someone can share?

When my Dell Inspiron 11 is plugged in, the power/battery indicator light is solid amber. When it's unplugged, it's somewhere between amber and white--almost like a pinkish white. It's charging and working fine both plugged in and on battery power.
Another symptom that has started at about the same time is that the USB ports don't seem to be recognizing hardware and when I ran a diagnostic, I got an error W11US-362 error (haven't figured out where I'm supposed to look it up!).
Any advice about what to do next? Thanks in advance.

I know this topic has been stated before, but there are no threads that explain the step by step workflow to discovering the cause of the problem.
This should be our goal.
The probIem:
In my case: my Inspiron 620 desktop won't turn on, no light on button, solid orange or amber if you prefer, on board. No whir, no fan. Worked fine yesterday.
It's happened before, quite often actually, in fact, part of me thinks that if I go upstairs and press the button right now, it would whir to life.
Sometimes it goes months without being weird, then it becomes unresponsive, save the steady light, that orange light, like a heartbeat, "I'm still here..."
A bit ago I had to get a new power unit, but I attributed that to a storm, at the time I was fortunate enough to still have the computer under warranty, but this is no longer the case. When I spoke with the very pleasant man on the phone, he walked me through some steps to figure out what the problem was.
I no longer remember those steps.
So the question is: What are the steps to determining the problem my computer is having?
Thank you

Answer:Computer won't turn on, solid orange (amber) light

Hi BC Taylor,
Please follow the below shared instructions to identify the point of failure. First we will try to release the residual charge from the system to check if it powers on or not. Here are the steps:

Disconnect any external peripherals (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) from the computer including the power supply.
Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds.
Reconnect the power supply. Try to restart the computer and check.

If the issue still persists, try swapping the system power cable with monitor power cable if they are identical, else you may try powering on the system using a good known power supply. It can be an issue with the power socket as well, test it on another working power socket too.
If you are still not able to get the system powered on, then most likely the motherboard has failed, and hardware replacement may be required.
Hope this helps. Please reply if you have any questions, I'll be happy to assist you.

Hello. After I accidentally unplugged my pc, I tried to turn it back on but only got a solid amber light on the power button, nothing comes on the screen and there are no beeps, the PSU light on the back is green so I don't know if it's a PSU problem. The fans run and I can open the CD tray. I already tried unplugging the cord and holding the power button without results. Thanks

Hello, (she says through gritted teeth)

My son spilt a glass of coke around my pc tonight, as I was cleaning the keyboard I assume I hit the power off button as it shut itself down. I decided this probably wasnt such a terrible thing so I could continue to clean the keyboard and the rest of the mess. I then powered it up and the fan ran furiously (louder than normal) with a solid amber light from the power button and monitor power button. I turned it all of at the power point then turned it all back on, same again. So I decided to remove it open it up and check for moisture inside. There was no moisture in and around the mother board or anywhere else that I could see other than some coming out of the plastic case area which I cleaned (also vacuumed it out to remove dust), but the metal case / base and all insides looked fine. After a while I plugged it back in but same again, fan going flat out and just amber lights. Oh yes and I tried the mouse from it on another computer and it won't work either!

Which part is cactus?

Can I retrieve any of the information / files from the hard drive? I have an Acer and a HP Compact, am I able to put the hard drive into either of these to get my files?

I had files I hadn't backed up on there ( I know it's a sin)

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I have a Dell Optiplex 780 and when I went to power it up the other night it did not power up.  I'm getting a solid amber light for the power button and lights 2,3, and 4 are blinking above it.  Any idea what this means?

Answer:Dell OptiPlex - Solid amber light, lights 2,3,4 blinking

According to the 780 Service Manual page 13,
Solid Amber Power Light = Second state of the light at power up. Indicates the POWER_GOOD signal is active and it is probable that the power supply is fine. Look at the diagnostic lights for further information.
Page 15 shows that 2/3/4 = A possible USB failure has occurred. Disconnect and reconnect every USB device, then try to power on.

I cannot turn on my Dell XPS One Desktop. The on off switch doesn't work. There is a solid red, or amber light on the back panel just below the plug, when it is plugged in? Can you explain what the solid red or amber light indicates please? Thank you.

Answer:Dell Desktop XPS One solid amber light on back panel

First suspect would be the power supply - about $50 to replace.  If that doesn't solve the issue, it's the mainboard - which is more like $400+ to replace.

Hello All, Ive had my y510 for a week now and LOVE it. I just registered it had the model # registration problem, but now its resolved. I dont know if this has come up before, but I had a question about the battery status light (btwn the wifi light an power light) Its really a non-issue at this point, but its something that should be brought up. Every time ive used the machine, its been plugged in, except for a half hour today because the stupid Queens library doesnt let you plug your laptop into the outlets. When I got home, and i was using it, it was charging, and the battery light was solid amber. (its fully charged now and solid blue BUT before it wouldnt go above 98% and it was solid blue) I looked in the user guide and that wasnt one of the things they list. Page 19&20 says its either solid blue, blinking blue, blinking amber or off alltogether. I was wondering if anyone had any idea what a solid amber light indicated? Thank you  Message Edited by helo_darqness on 03-05-2008 02:53 AMMessage Edited by helo_darqness on 03-05-2008 02:54 AM

Hi, I have dell Inspiron 560s which doesn't boot up, when I press the power button a solid amber light appears, also the cpu fan is making lots of noise.

Answer:My dell Inspiron 560s doesn't boot up, solid amber light

Hi maximraven,
Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.
The solid amber power light indicates there is a system fault error condition, including the power supply or it could be because the system is in sleep/standby states. Disconnect all the cables from the system and then press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds (Releasing the flea power). Connect the cables back and turn on the system. If this does not work, you could disconnect the cables from the system and then try to reseat the 12 V power connector (ATX12V1) which goes from the power supply unit to the motherboard. You could also check if there is a green light on the rear of the system near the power connector on the power supply unit. Please refer to the service manual using this link http://dell.to/1JHho09.
Please reply if you have any further questions.

Hello,

Hoping someone here can offer some advice? I own a Dell studio xps 435t-9000 that is a couple years old. I recently replaced my harddrive and since then (don't know if it's a coincidence or not) I'm having another problem. After I installed it, the first time my computer went into sleep mode/hibernation I couldn't wake it up. Power light was flashing white. Eventually I shut it down manually and then it wouldn't boot. Had a solid amber light, no power except the power supply. Fans not working. I unplugged everything and made sure it was all good. Wouldn't start. Left it overnight and plugged it in the next morning. Started up. Worked great for about 7 hours and then just randomly shut down, no errors or anything. Same deal. Wouldn't start, amber solid power light. Let it sit for awhile, reseated everything and wouldn't start.Gave up for awhile, tried a few hours later and it started. I read a few boards pointing to the power supply being bad or not powerful enough. However, I replaced the power supply about 6 months ago with a Corsair 600 which is plenty power. Could still be an issue perhaps but seems odd it would die in that little time. I also replaced my graphics card if that matters. Finally the last time I checked all the plugs I also took out the board batter for a few minutes to try and "reset" things. Not sure if that matters, either.

So, I'm at a loss where to go from here. I could replace the power su... Read more

Laptop only 1 year old. Just out of warranty. In home light duty use only. Tried to power up one day and noticed solid amber light although charger was plugged in. Purchased new genuine Lenovo charger. No luck. Purchased new power input connector (yellow plug on unit's side) and internal cable to motherboard. Installed nicely. Checked input to motherboard: 20VDC. But still no power and amber light solid. Purchased new battery. Still no power. Still amber light solid. No flicker, no display, no nothing. Next is motherboard replacement, but i7 8GB motherboard is $400! Even on E-bay.  Tried all of the reset procedures people post: holding power button and BIOS button (together and separate) for 20-30 seconds with and without battery and power cord plugged in. Tried disconnecting small battery to clear CMOS.  Anyone have this issue? How in the world can a motherboard fail on a unit cared for maticulously including always having proper cooling in an indoor environment. I've never used this unit outdoors. I don't have kids (lol). Lenovo says $99 repair inspection and probably new motherboard at $400. Seriously!?!? $500 for repair of a one year old laptop. Shame on you Lenovo!

My computer was down when I came back from lunch and could not get it to come back on.  If I hold the power button down for about 7 seconds it blinks orange but there is not noise from the fan coming on or post beep.  Also the green light on the back is not on either. All of the other equipment sharing the same power strip come on but not the desktop so it is not the power strip.  I also tried to set it up in another office on a completely different circuit and still does the same thing. What should I try next?

Are any of the 4 diagnostic LEDs on when it won't boot? ,They're on the front of the PC next to the power button. Look up error codes in the manual.
Possible power supply failure if the green light is off on the back. Can you try a different power cord? What happens if you push the power supply diagnostic button on back of PC next to that (green) power light?

I have an Optiplex 390 (actually 3 with similar behavior...).
PC would not power on. I did the power test and determine the Mobo was the issue.
I replaced the Mobo with a new one. Still can't power from front power button, but if I go at the back to the power supply 'power test button' and press on it the full PC comes on with all fans everything, but front power button is amber. And I get nothing on display, fans stay full speed. I can turn off, by pressing the from power button for a few seconds.
I tried using the CPU from another of the 3 PCs that had similar power issues and pointed to Mobo.
I reconnected all cables, tried different RAM modules, different video card, nothing makes a difference.
Not sure where to look now.

Answer:Optiplex 390 Amber power light, but all power looks good

Assuming that you replaced the motherboard then it likely is the power supply has had it you'll need to buy a new one.

Not sure if i'm in the right place, but just wanted to see if I could get any help with this problem. I "tried" to turn on my computer the other day and nothing happened, the power light just blinked an amber color with no noise or anything. I know that if it buzzes or makes a sound it can be determined what the problem is, but it does nothing. Can anyone tell me what the problem is? Thanks

Hello All,
I have a Dell XPS 8500 tower system.   My original issue started when i got 'no bootable device found' during bootup.  I had updated 3 month before to Win 10.  I changed HD but it did not appear to be the issue.   Put original HD back and modified BIOS several times, which at times it would start successfully but it would crash after a couple of days and i would get 'no boot device found' again.  Now, when i try to start PC, plug in power cord I get amber color light in power button.  Mobo light is also amber color.
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

My Tecra A1 wont power on. Instead I just get a blinking amber power light.

Things I have tried:
1. Removing the AC adapeter
1a. The Pwr light still blinks : the comp wont turn on

2. Removing the AC adpter and the battery. Inserting the battery and hitting the power button
2a. When I remove the battery the blinking goes away, when the battery is replaced, the comp wont turn on

3. Removing power cord, and batttery : reattaching battery then power cord - hitting power button
3a. Right when I reattach the power cord, the power button starts blinking amber. Power button does nothing.

The light only blinks (or does anything for that mater) when the power cord is in.

In advance, thanks for the help.

Answer:Tecra A1 No power : Blinking Amber Light

Hi

Try to start your Tecra without battery just connected on power supply.

It is possible that here is some problem with battery. If the Power supply microcontroller detects an error the DC IN lamp sends a blinking code. Reading this code it is possible to know what the problem is.

If you think that battery is defect contact service partner.

About a month ago I found my computer tower was still 'on' but the screen was black and the green power light on the tower had turned amber. The light wasn't blinking, it was steady. I had to hold the power button down to get it to shut down and restart. It happened yesterday again, when I hadn't been near it for awhile, and that time and the time before I had FF up with stuff to look at later so I thought it was going into standby mode or something, except that it happened again about 20 minutes ago while I was using it. No odd noises before the light changes color either. Although, I have heard a couple odd noises that might be coming from the tower in the last little while. It sort of sounds like a phone set to ring on pulse, but it is pretty quite and two quick rings of two pulses about 5 minutes apart. It seems to be fine after restarting.

Preliminary ideas as to what could be causing this? I've done some basic research and have read that it could be the power supply. I will also say that each time it has happened the computer has been on for over 10 hours before hand.

It is a dell (can't mind model # right now) and is running Windows XP home.

System will not power on at all, and the power light displays the dreaded blinking amber light. It's getting no power at all, and the PSU has been ruled out because I tested the machine with another known working PSU. I have also reseated the RAM, video card, and CPU as well as reseating all power cables and still nothing. I'm trying to find another socket 775 P4 for testing, but haven't come up with one yet. Am I looking at a defective MOBO here, or does anyone have any other troubleshooting ideas?

Hello,

I am dazed with this problem. Trying to find the solution on all the forums.

My brother owns a Dell Desktop computer and suddenly it stopped working.

- The Power button light is flashing continuously.
- The green light on the motherboard is perfectly on.
- The port light where the telephone wire goes and the usb port next to it on the motherboard is blinking continuously.
- The processor is not starting.
- If I remove the power cord, the lights mentioned above and same for 15 seconds.

What must be the possible problem.

MAny Thanks in advance

Karthik

Answer:Dell PC not starting: amber flashing power light

You would be dazed again, because this is probably caused by a failing power supply. The blinking power button is a good clue. The green LED on the motherboard simply means that you have a power cord plugged in... It could be a bad motherboard too, but power supplies are easier to replace and cheaper to start with

Hi My F1904 monitor seems to have a fault. When I power it on the power switch flashes amber and I get no display. Any suggestions? There does not seem to be any mention of this in the documentation. Many Thanks

Answer:F1904 Monitor flashing amber power light

amber usually means sleep mode. flashing can mean different things. Disconnect the video cable, turn it off, pull the power plug, wait 10 seconds, plug it in and turn it on. Press the OSD buttons to see if you can bring up the on screen display. If that comes, up try connecting it again. Hopefully the PC is not sending out a bad video signal.

My mom gave me a Dell Dimension 4700 computer that was acting up. She said it would turn it's self off randomly and she thought it was a virus. When I brought the computer to my place, it powered on once, then I went to turn it on again and nothing. No lights, no power what so ever. So after doing some research I bought a new power supply for it. I just replaced the power supply and plugged the computer in and now there is a blinking amber light in the front and a solid green light on the motherboard but it won't turn on. I have checked all of the connections and they are properly seated. Any ideas what is causing the problem?

I have a Dell e510 I am trying to fix for a friend. When power is turned on, the power light flashes green for an instant, then continues to flash amber. Nothing at all appears on the monitor. It goes to flashing amber in a sec or 2.

I have unplugged all the components and removed the memory so that I have just the motherboard and video card. I have replaced the Power supply. I have remocved the CMOS battery. Still having the problem. Is it possible that a bad or no hard drive (I have the power unplugged to the hard drive at this point). Would cause a Dell E510 not to POST.

Did some searching on here and tried a couple of things. Turned computer on earlier and just got a black screen and two green lights on front. Turned off power from back(because power button on front didn't work), powered back on and an amber light came on and green light on the right. I can hear the fan running and I can open doors on my disc drives so i'm thinking it's not the PSU, plus I had replaced that from the original one when it failed a couple years ago. Another person suggested a motherboard test so I removed all the cards and disconnected all the drives like they said, powered back up and the solid amber light is now solid green. What can I try next?

I was on my computer one morning and we happened to have a power flash, quickly on and off. Afterwards i turn on my computer, everything comes normally, gives me the safe boot option, i start up windows 7 log in and it freezes, on a side note that is very unusal. I've had my setup for a month now and not 1 freeze. Afterwards anytime i attempt to turn on my computer the monitor stays amber and nothing shows, no bios nothing. I've tried tried multiple things such as replacing the power supply, running bare minimum (1 stick of ram, cpu, cpu fan and power supply without graphics card installed), Ironically im in a nerdrage rush to get it fixed by 11p.m. central time tonight, a new game i've been preparing for with new comp upgrades and such for months comes out on midnight and i very much so intend to be there for it.

my computer specs:

3.3 dual core am3 socket processor
9800gt xlr8 nvidia graphics card
2 sticks of 2 gig 1333mhz ddr3 ram
600w Power supply
500 gig sata harddrive

im running windows 7 professional 64x

i was running a 480w power supply when the power flashed, i bought a 600w today.

Hallo!

As a total DELL-Lover I only have such Machines around.
I just wanted to build up a OP 760 for my little son.

When I plug the power cort, the diagnostic LEDs 2 3 4 keep flashing while the power LED is amber.
System has only orgiginal DELL components, no add-on cards.

I checked out two CPU types:
intel E8600 and E7300

Also, I tried without any CPU - then, the diagnostic lights for a missing CPU light up.

I would be so perfect if there would be any solution for this.

Anyone knows how to fix that?

I have a dell dimension 8100 that has been powerleaped from a 1.7 to a 2.5.  I recently upgraded the RAM from 256 PC 800 RDRam to 512.  I also have upgraded from a GEForce 2 Ultra to a GEForce 4 Ti4600 quite a while back.  Everything has been working great until the last week or so and I am at a loss here.  I used to leave my computer on all the time 24/7 with reboots here and there when I needed to.  Well, after I lost the fan on my Video card I started to turn it off.  After about six months of this it decided that it doesn't like to boot up after a night or two of being off.  What happens is when I push the power button you can hear it power on but the monitor says there is no signal being sent from the computer.  The other weird thing is that the power button light is amber instead of green.  I turned off the computer and unplugged all power from it and tried again.  This time it booted up.  The last time it happened, unplugging it didn't even work so I pulled the case apart and cleaned it out.  I yanked the Video card out of the AGP slot and reseated it and turned it on and presto it fired right up.  What gets me is when I leave it on and have to reboot it, everything works fine.  It only acts up when I leave it off over night or longer and then start it.  Could this be the battery on the motherboard?  My clock doesn't seem to be losing time in windows or anything.  If a... Answer:Dimension 8100 not booting up and has amber light on power button. Please HELP?

If the power button is blinking amber, it is probable that the power supply needs to be replaced. If the power button is solid amber, the power supply should be fine. At this stage of bootup, memory has not yet been tested, and is not a factor in this type of failure. Check the CPU and ensure that it is properly seated.

My refurbished dell optiplex GX280 worked fine until a month or so ago when I moved it to another room in my home. When I powered up, the power light was blinking amber. I tried all of the options that did not require buying new parts du to financial reasons, so it's sat since then.

I just decided to look at it again and powered it on. Everything seemed to start OK but no dispay. The diagnostic lights indicated faulty memory. I then located and removed the faulty DIMMM, and it started right up.

About ten minutes later the computer shut off by itself back to the blinking amber power light.

I have A Dell Dimension 4400. It's been a pain in the butt to power on lately. Mainly I keep it on. Every now and then my video display screen goes wacky and the resolution changes by itself and the icons get BIGGER.. So I reboot..

It takes 15 - 20 tries to get started (thats just why I leave it on).. Nevertheless, the power light seems to stay yellow and I simply walk away. 15 -20 min later it just boots up. No idea why it takes so long..

Well about 2hrs ago the display went nuts. Lost all the color. I took apart the PC and not surprised, The video card was very LOOSE (almost out) I took EVERY connection inside the PC apart and cleaned them. I reseated every cable & card in the system. Everything's nice and tight.

I go to reboot (power up) and the Yellow (amber) light comes on the power botton. No beeps, No green lights, all 4 lights on the back of the PC are Out, No fans run, no CD light, No CD power. Just a Yellow (amber) solid light on the power button.

At this point I open back up the box and take put the button cell battery (waite 10 min) then put back. I took ALL the connections off for the second time, and all is tight. I power up, same thing. Yellow (amber) light. No beeps no nothing.. I even changed out power cords and different outlets..

The Power Supply fan is about 1yr old (i'm sure that means nothing) About the only thing I dident do is the Jumper test for Power Supply..

Any thoughts?
Thanks
Superlost :cry

Answer:Dell Dimension 4400 yellow (amber) light NO POWER

PSU or motherboard issues. Sound to me like dead PSU but the fact that you have the amber light on the front says that you are getting some sort of powerfrom your PSU.

1. Test your PSU with a multi meter. A good guide can be found here

2. Look on your motherboard for the green power LED that identified that your MB is getting power (Note: it usually a small rectangular LED not a big traditional round one).

If your PSU has power on the 24pin ATX connector and the power LED on your MB is out you have a dead MB

3. It could simply be that the power push button has become disconnected, is broken or is on the wron connector. Consult your motherboard manual to find out what pins it should be connected to. make sure it is connected properly. If it is connected properly remove the connecter and short the two pins with a paper clip (This has the same effect as pushing the push button) and it should boot your PC.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: I you dont have you MB manual post you make and model and we will do the rest!!

My laptop is almost 12 months old.  2 weeks ago the power light (on front of case) started blinking -- 1 white, 4 amber, repeated continuously -- when A/C power cord plugged in and battery has a charge.  Same if I unplug A/C power cord and run only on battery. (Bios show battery is "Normal" and icon tray shows battery is fully charged.)  Power light is constant white when I remove battery and power only with A/C cord. I called Dell Tech Support and they told me that this is not a problem with battery and that my laptop is properly functioning.  Blinking light would seem to indicate otherwise.  I would appreciate any insights that anyone might have, in particular if you have encountered this same problem.  Thank you.

Answer:Inspiron 1545 Power Light Blinking White/Amber

Hello again
Thank you so much for replying. YES, when I disconnect the battery and only run on A/C power the light stays white.
So, I will have to get a new battery which is quite expensive as I am no longer under warranty. I hardly ever use it, only to move the laptop from one room to the other. I pretty much use it like a "desktop". I have been putting up with the annoying light for a couple of weeks now, sometimes I disconnect the battery just to get rid of the annoyance, but it has been windy/stormy weather here and we are known to have occasional power outages, so I rather keep it in.
Anyways, thank you so much for posting your issue and writing back. I appreciate it

Hello, Last month a message from lenovo power manager software pops up on the laptop, saying something like my power adapter needs to be replaced it is not providing enough. It continued to work for a few days before stop charging at all. When I plugged in to AC power, my Yoga would start charging for 2 seconds and stop. If I took out the plug and reconnect, it just did the same and not charge. While plugged in, the laptop charging icon disappears after the 2 initial seconds and the power light on my pc flashes steadly on/off amber. I managed to order this power adapter here before out of battery. When I received the adapter my Yoga started charging again with no problem. The next day however, my screen went black and stop working. Warrenty out dated, so I openned the machine and found a loose screw from the fan, put it back and by magic the screen is working again. The next day I plug in my laptop, let it charges for a few hours. When I turn it on the charging icon disappears again. Same thing as before, not charging with flashing amber light. I noticed that when unplugged, the light would go to solid white like normal. So I have 70% battery left before I feel like just throwing this thing in the trash! I couldn't find anybody with the same problem. I was wondering if updating the BIOS could help but when I tried a message came up "Please plugin and try again", Great...! Someone please help!

Answer:Yoga 2 13 - stopped charging - power light flashing amber

Hi pjz,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I would suggest try isolating if Battery or AC is causing this problem.

First is to try removing the battery on your Yoga
Here's is a simple guide.
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Lenovo+Yoga+2+13-Inch+Battery+Replacement/39456

Now while there is no battery Try plugging your adapter and try turning the computer ON.
It should power up using only the AC adapter.

If it did not.
Your problem lies with the the power System, COuld be the charging port. Try observing the Port or follow the wire that runs to it.

If the computer power up without the Battery in it, without any problem. This is a problem with your battery.

Let me know your findings
Regards
Solid Cruver

Answer:Satellite Pro 4600 amber light flashing if I press the power switch

It sounds like a mainboard problem?

Try to remove the AC/DC adaptor and battery and then wait one hour. Connect the AC/DC adaptor and the battery. Now try it again.

Does this happen if with battery and/or AC adaptor?

I have to 2 Dell Precision T3600 computers that only power on after the second try.
If you press the power button first time: the power button get's a amber light & 1 3 4 diagnostic get a flickering amber light.
If you turn the computer off and press the power button again it will turn on and work as normal.
I have been able to diagnose that the PSU is the problem.
I would like to know if I can continue to use these desktops in their current state? Are there any potential consequences / risks involved?
Also can the PSU can be repaired? If so how?

Thank you in advance.

Answer:Dell Precision T3600 Power Supply (PSU) amber light issue

Manual indicates it may be PSU cable related:

1- Blink 2- Off 3- Blink 4- Blink

PSU Cable Failure
All PSU cables may not be properly connected to system board. (PS_ON asserted, missing a main power rail)

Did you try to reseat the motherboard's PSU cable(s)?

First i cleaned the inside of the desktop from dust. I checked the battery it was fine ( 3V as indicated) then i checked rams. Also fine. Checked the video card also fine. Then i figured maybe it's the power supply. I jumped it and it worked the fan works and most of the outputs are fine. Then i tried to plug only the 24pin conector on the the mobo , it worked fine the fan kept spinning the HDD worked the cd-rom workd ..there was no stopping. But once i pluged the 4 pin atx mobo ps, every thing stoped again. I repeated the same thing 3 times. Once the 4 pin atx is pluged everything stops. What should i do. Is it the mobo ? Please help

Answer:Amber power light of death flashing Dell optiplex gx620

Hi Eddysam,
Please check the power button if it is solid or flashing, is there any pattern for the same. Please check the keyboard caps lock and number lock key if it toggles while the system is turned on.
For me to better assist in troubleshooting, please click my DELL-username and send me a Private Message with the Dell Service Tag number and your email address.

Hi,

I've been working on a Satellite 2805-S201 and all was fine until I placed a PCMCIA Wireless with a 3.3V power rating.
After that, the AC power light will flash Amber 8 times and recycle.

This is with AC power, Battery power, AC and no battery installed, etc. If I pull the power plug and battery, and then put them both in, the AC light is green and the battery will charge. As soon as I Push the on/off button, I hear a faint click from the right side of the unit and then it goes into the amber power cycling.

The Support bulletins mentioned that the card could get damaged, but didn't mention the Unit itself.
No, the PCMCIA card is still not plugged in

Any Thoughts?

Answer:Satellite 2805-S201: AC power light flashes amber 8 times

Hi

The blinking LED provides a micro code which refers to the hardware fault.
But please don?t ask me what this code could mean because in my opinion only an authorized service provider can read it and can check this in his manuals and documentations.
But one this is sure, in most cases it?s a motherboard hardware problem! ;(

Possibly the external PCMCIA card was not fully compatible and damages something on the board? but this is only my personal suggestion and to ensure what?s wrong a hardware fault diagnostic would be necessary.

Ok, helping out a friend on TalkTalk using a Belkin Router Ex was using the Sagam 800 usb DSL modem.Tried other Routers and connection status on and in Routers say connected evene getting solid Greens on Routers and using a Sagem USB modem also showing solid green.Recently the phone line totally went of from talktalk as my mate is with them for phone. They got that back but broadband never came back to be up and running. So my Question is even though be it a Router can show Green for Connected & a USB Modem can show green connected does anyone know if its possbile their still could be a fault on TalkTalk end which can effect loss of the broadband.I thought if the Green lights were solid green then this mean all is ok in that dept.

Answer:ADSL light solid on router and USB Modem

I suggest that you log into the routers management interface and check the status and status logs to check if there is a connection there. It could indeed be a fault at TalkTalk`s end but the logs will give you a good clue.

Hello I tried to install a power supply with my dell now I get a steady amber light after I removed the power supply since it had showed me an amber light. With the old power supply, I still get the steady amber light. I noticed that on the LED in the back, I got a yellowish amber colored light as well. With the new power supply it didn't have the exact four pin layout of my old one but had an eight pin layout that was seperated so that I could ease a four pin in with my computer. Did this blow out the motherboard? The major thing I did was remove the heatsink which had pins connected to it when I tried to install this video card but I noticed that some of the pins bent out of shape so I got a new heatsink only this time the heatsink I recieved has no pins. I installed the heatsink and tried to boot the pc but it won't boot only the fan spins and none of the indicator lights in the front turn on. Is the motherboard or processor dead? Thanks.

I have a satellite A105-4054, which has given excellent service. Yesterday, the power light started flashing amber and stopped charging the battery. I had a second freshly charged battery, which I used instead and the power light still flashes amber.

I checked the Original Toshiba battery charger, which came with the unit, with a voltmeter and it shows 15 volts, which is correct. The laptop will boot normally with a freshly charged battery, but it will not charge when plugged in, and the power light flashes amber continually. If I remove the battery and leave the laptop plugged in, the power light flashes amber continually, and nothing happens (no power up). I would be happy to just run the laptop on AC, but that is not possible, right now

The toshiba power utility system tray icon, when the laptop is booted up on the fresh battery, flashes back and forth between charging and battery, and the battery does not seem to charge. Previously, the power utility would show AC power continuously when the unit was plugged in and the power light would stay blue.

I really like the laptop, since it has given superb service, and would like to keep it. Any reasonable solutions, please?

Thanks guys (and gals)!

Answer:Re: Satellite A105 - power light started flashing amber/battery not charging

On this virtual way nobody can say for sure what the problem is but after reading your detailed posting I think there is problem with power supply electronic placed on the mainboard. Only technicians with special diagnostic tools can say for sure what is wrong there.

In my opinion there is no much you can do about it and in such case whole mainboard must be exchanged. If you want contact nearest authorized service provider, explain the situation and I hope they can tell you more about that.

I bought this a couple of years ago from a local computer store. It's been very reliable and I run Ubuntu 16.04 Linux on it. This afternoon I had a power drop of a second or so and since then when trying to boot the issue in the subject happens. I can get to boot as usual by pressing the power supply test button which gives me a green light on the power supply and then pressing the power button will let it boot normally. I don't have any version of Windows installed so it's not possible to run any diagnostic unless there are some Linux based ones.
Thanks for any help

Answer:Dell Optiplex 780 MiniTower, power light flashes amber diagnostic lights 1 & 3 flash

Blinking Amber power: Initial state of light at power up. Indicates system has power, but the POWER_GOOD signal is not yet active. If the Hard Drive light is off, it is probable that the power supply needs to be replaced. If the Hard Drive light on, it is probable that an onboard regulator or VRM has failed. Look at the diagnostic lights for further information.
1+3:  Memory modules are detected, but a memory configuration or compatibility error has occurred.
You could try resetting BIOS to see if you can clear the error.

Reboot and press F2 to open BIOS setup
Copy down all current BIOS settings
Power off, unplug
Press/hold power button for ~15 sec
Open case and remove motherboard battery
Press/hold power button for ~30 sec
Reseat RAM modules in their slots
Reinstall battery- good time for new CR2032 coin cell, if this one is old
Close case and reboot

If that helps, go back into BIOS setup, and confirm that all settings match what you wrote down. Be sure to save any changes before exiting setup.

The computer in question is an HP G62 laptop.  THIS is the problem:  When I plug it in, the light where I  plug it in goes on indicating power is on, but the monitor doesn't power up at all. I was told that's the motherboard.  Is it, or how do I find out for sure?  It's the stock OS that came with it...I think Win 7 (32 bit?...not sure) Thank you

Hi All,

I have had this Toshiba Equium L350D since September 2008, and it has not been in use that often, it was working fine two days ago, but yesterday I switched it on, with power lead attached, and the "plug" light came on and was solid, and so did the power and the battery indicators, I could hear the fan working and the light on the cd/dvd was on solid. But that was it, no activity from the hard drive at all.

I could not switch it off without disconnecting the power lead and removing the battery as the power button did not seem to perform a shut-off when pressed for 10 seconds.

Any advice, apart from taking it to a repair centre as I do not really want to spend too much money on it.

Answer:Equium L350 powers up (power light on solid) but no activity from HDD

Hi dude

I think you have no other choice as to get in contact with an notebook technician.
The point is that this issue sounds as an serious hardware problem? I think about motherboard or CPU issue because it was not possible to shut down the unit pressing the power button for 10 sec?

The notebook has been purchased in September 2008?
Well? if you have registered the notebook on the Toshiba European driver page then the warranty should be valid for 24month?. And this means that the warranty should be still valid?
So you should not need to pay for anything?

I have an Inspiron 3650 i3 desktop pc that is a few years old and seldom used. When not in use it is in sleep mode.
Yesterday i tried taking it out of sleep mode, with no luck, and noticed the power button light was solid orange. After a few tries I hard reset the pc and it would not boot up completely. The fans come on and the harddrive sounds like its working but i get no video and the power button remained solid orange. After troubleshooting from several forums i ended up disconnecting everything from the motherboard and taking out the battery then after replacing it and trying to boot with just the cpu fan plugged in. same result, solid orange power button. The PSU seems to be working fine after troubleshooting it so im thinking its either the processor or mobo that has gone bad. Any suggestions?

I have a Latitude e5540 that doesn't turn on (at least not easily). But when it does turn on, it can stay on for weeks/months as long as it stays in sleep mode. This has happened three times now. If I shut down or reboot the computer, it doesn't turn on again -- or at least it's very difficult to get it on and it seems to randomly correct itself and turn back on.
Here are the symptoms when it doesn't boot up:

Screen is blank.
The Power light on the power button and edge of laptop are both solid white, no other lights on. Power light remains on as long as it's getting power from the battery or power cable. If I press the power button to turn it off, it sounds like it's going through a shutdown process of some sort -- not like windows shutting down, but it doesn't immediately turn off. The fans will spin up for a few seconds, then it will power off after another few seconds.
When power button is pressed, the fans turn on momentarily then spin down after a second. But they will randomly turn back on for a few seconds here and there as long as the power remains on.
HDD sounds like it's on. HDD light on the edge of the laptop is off.

Troubleshooting so far with no noticeable difference:

Removed the battery and power cable, held power button to drain residual power and tried to connect just the power cable and turn it on. Didn't work.
Connected to an external monitor via HDMI to TV -- once the laptop powers on, the TV detects a new source, but... Read more

I have a T7500, was working perfectly until I I upgraded the CPU`s to hex core, when I try to boot, it does not get past the error. The Power Light is solid green, and lights 3 and 4 are solid, this is not a fault code listed in the manual, and have found nothing online to help. I have removed all but 2 sticks of memory and checked the pins on the CPU riser, all seem to be fine. And system works when riser is removed. Does anyone have any clues or fixes that might help me with this.
Many Thanks

My inspiron one 2305 has just quit working.   On power up, the power switch glows a steady amber.  The fans come on and you can hear the HD start to spin up and run.  No video, splash screen, or anything else.  No POST beeps, either.   A possible cause was the LCD inverter, but I've just installed a new one and that did not fix the problem.  External power supply appears to be functioning normally.   I suspect the motherboard is gone.    And the warranty is long expired, of course.
Apparently this issue is a common one for the 2305 and a result of defective design on Dell's part.    Quite a few other people are experiencing the same problem.   Anyone else run across this and fixed it?

I have a Dell XPS 13 that had the motherboard replaced a few months ago.  When attempting to boot the front led blinks amber twice, then white twice repeatedly. The device will start up but never boots to the dell logo or the Windows OS. This is with the AC plugged in and also with the internal battery plugged in.  After a few months, I had the same issue with the laptop yesterday.  Is there another issues other than the motherboard or could it be that the "refurbished motherboard" came from another defective Dell XPS 13 9350?

Answer:Dell XPS 13 won't boot up and has blinking amber light (twice) plus blinking white light (once) for the 2nd time

Hi PFMCDONNER ,
Does the screen gets stuck at Dell logo?
Are you able to boot to "advanced boot options? by pressing F8?
Also run the diagnostics by pressing the F12 during startup and let me know the results.

Question: amber light

my sister has an amber light on her xp tower pc,the pc runs slow for an 900mghz machinehelp please

Answer:amber light

Hi denis93c. You really need to tell us more. Are you saying that the amber light is abnormal for this machine? Amber lights are often used to indicate that the hard drive is active. If this is the case, and the hard drive in your sister's machine is permanently active, then this would be the problem. I have heard of this fault with Windows XP, but can't remember the solution. Does anyone else recognise this?

I am experiencing some difficulty with my desktop computer. It is a Dell Vostro 220s, Windows XP SP3, 3GB ram, 250GB hard drive. A couple nights ago we had a power outage. I get up the next morning to find my desktop off (I usually leave it on). I go to turn it on and the power light comes on blue, like normal, and the fans kick on. However, after a second or two, it turns amber and begins blinking.

I googled what the potential problems could be and how to troubleshoot it. I'm assuming based on my search results that it is a power-based failure of some kind, typically either the power supply or the motherboard.

I came across this while I was searching: ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-prod..._desktop/vostro-220s_service manual_en-us.pdf

excerpt from page 2:
If the power light is blinking amber, the computer is receiving electrical power, but an internal power problem may

Hello,
I just exchanged my Inspiron 560s's CPU with a Core 2 Quad 9400 which, according to Dell's upgrade website, is compatible to my PC.
However, when I start my PC, i get a constant, amber colored light on the power button and the PC won't start up.
I already tried resetting/updating my BIOS, but that didn't do it.
Does anyone know what the problem is? I suspect it might be the PSU because the new CPU takes a lot more energy and the PSU is only a 250 Watts one.

Recently, I lost wifi connection completely on my XPS 8700. The computer cannot detect any router. I noticed that the Realtek wireless adapter was missing in the device manager. Fortunately, the Dell wireless adapter was still available. After enabling this adapter, wifi connection worked again. However, during this trouble shooting, I found that the aux_pwr light turned on even if I shut down the computer.
My questions are:
1. Is the Realtek wireless adapter dead?
2.Why does the aux_pwr light turn on - solid amber light? Is it related to the Realtek wireless adapter issue or it indicate some other issues in my computer?
3. Can I turn off the aux_pwr light or how to trouble shoot? I don't think the aux_pwr light on is normal.
So far, the computer is working fine. Surely, I haven't tested all functionality.
Any help is appreciated!

Answer:aux_pwr amber light is ON

Are you talking about the LED on the motherboard? That LED should be on as long as the PC is connected to a "live" outlet. It means the motherboard is getting "flea power" and is perfectly normal.
If you unplug the PC from the wall and press/hold the power button for ~15 sec, the motherboard LED should go out.
nongjin100 I noticed that the Realtek wireless adapter was missing in the device manager. Fortunately, the Dell wireless adapter was still available.
That makes no sense - to me. There's only one wired and one wireless adapter, but you said there are two wireless. Do you mean the Realtek 8111E Network (integrated) wired Ethernet adapter ?
Have you looked at rear of the PC to see if any LEDs are on, next to the Ethernet (RJ45) port?
Reboot and press F2 to open BIOS setup. Make sure the Onboard LAN Controller option is set to Enabled. Be sure to save any changes before exiting setup.
Is there an "Unknown" device listed in Device Manager?
Have you tried reinstalling the NIC driver? Go to the Support page and select your version of Windows. Then download the Realtek adapter to the desktop and install it. And then reboot.
