Computer loads slow after a couple hours of usage!

Question: Computer loads slow after a couple hours of usage!

System:

Microsoft Windows XP Professional

Version 2002/Service Pack 3

Computer:

Intel (R)

Celeron (R) CPU 2.66 GHz

2.67 GHz

248 MB of RAM

Physical Address Extension

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have uninstalled programs that I don't use or really need.

I changed the Primary IDE channel from PIO to (Ultra DMA 2) like I was referred to do.

http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=61905

(I didn't install the driver like it said at the bottom of the page. If I have to, please let me know.)

I typed (msconfig) and got rid of everything in my startup deal at the bottom-right of the screen. All I have is my anti-virus icon.

I turned off the updates for Java.

I use AVG antivirus. I don't have any other protection running.

I scanned with Malewarebytes several times, but nothing comes up.

I ran Ccleaner.

I don't have additional pics or videos on my computer.

I use Firefox.

Windows Task Manager:

Processes:36 Firefox runs around 126,244K

The computer runs fine for a while, then it takes a while load pages. Especially when I'm on You Tube, Facebook and Myspace.

I don't want to purchase more RAM for such an old computer. Is there anything else I could check for that could be slowing it down? Why would it work fine, but all of a sudden load pages slowly? Any help would be appreciated.

Preferred Solution: Computer loads slow after a couple hours of usage!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Computer loads slow after a couple hours of usage!

Well if all you have is 248mb of memory, yeah it'll be slow trying to view web pages, especially video. Even more so if your video card is the built- into-motherboard variety, as that uses system memory and the Celeron too.

Adding some memory would help, whether you want to spend the $ is up to you.

Hello,
My computer has started to log off very slowly (10 to 20 minutes..) and now it periodically shuts down all applications and will not allow ANYTHING to run, msconfig, task manager, nothing, must restart to be able to do anything with the computer. The event is preceded by the warning of not enough space in the page file. Here is the HiJackThis log:

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit, service pack 2. The computer is a Gateway FX 6800-11 and I've had it for a couple years with no issue. Within the last couple weeks, however, after it has been on for a couple hours or so it will totally lock up. I am usually able to move the mouse around, but either I try to open something and it acts like it is thinking but never finishes, or there is no response at all when I click. The computer becomes totally non-responsive at this point other than moving the mouse - ctrl-alt-del does nothing. I can sometimes see exactly when it froze because the clock will be frozen at whatever time it happened. I have to hold the power button on the computer down to get it to go off. Then, sometimes when it is booting back up it runs chkdisk, but it never finds any issues.

I have tried disabling all the starting programs and non-Microsoft background processes but it will still freeze up eventually. I also checked to make sure all the fans in the computer are still working, and they are.

Could this be a failing harddrive issue? But then, wouldn't chkdisk find something? Thanks a lot for any advice.

Hi,

This has been baffling me for at least a month now, my PC will randomly start to slow down after a few hours (2-4) of being used. This began to happen randomly and after no new software or updates where installed.

So far I have tried to take off all my overclocks, run a CPU test for 24hours (stable) and all the defrags and disk cleanups that I could be bothered to run. Worst thing is this started happening a day before I was going to make a restore point.

All my system info is on my profile.

Any help will be much appreciated,

Thanks

EDIT: I forgot to mention where the slowdowns occur, they include programs taking a good 5 seconds to open and more confusingly sites take a good 30-40 seconds to load when shortly after boot it takes less than a second.

I have checked my network usage and system resource usage and both are within their normal ranges.

Hi and thanks for taking time to help us folks!

A number of months ago my computer started to crash while encoding and/or burning movies with Nero. It crashed in this manner: I'd hear a little "pop" and the computer instantaneously turns off, losing everything currently worked on. It is basically the exact same "pop" sound and subsequent go-black zap-off that happens when you hold the power button down several seconds until it shuts off.

After a few months, I was using the computer for longer periods of time and it started popping and shutting off after a couple hours of use *without* Nero (or any other heavy program) being open, leading me to believe that Nero was not causing the shut-down issue but rather it was always shutting down with Nero simply because that's when I was keeping the comuter on for more than 90 minutes, waiting for a movie to encode. I tried using other smaller programs like DVD Flick and it consistently zaps out while waiting for that to encode & finish too (it is much more time consuming than Nero).

My computer is a Toshiba Satellite L675 with an AMD Premium Vision processor and Windows 7 OS. I am using a replacement battery, but the problem did not seem to follow the battery replacement.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Giving up authoring of my family's home movies is a pretty big sacrifice, but it's crashing me on a daily basis even without the Nero. Please let me know if you need any additional ... Read more

Check in Control Panel>Scheduled Tasks to see if anything runs in the night that might be calling for a restart. Some anti-virus utilities restart after scanning. Could the download be causing this?

Ok so, this past week my computer started to get slow after being on for some random amount of time. It doesn't happen after I do anything, just during normal usage. Start menu items will take from 3 seconds up to a minute to launch.

Performance is fairly normal:
CPU usage could be 0-3% for firefox (rest on idle)
Ram 15-25% running Firefox, Steam, Logitech stuff, explorer, host services, etc.

-Resource monitor seems fairly normal.
-Windows up-to-date.
-Bios up-to-date
-all known drivers up-to-date
-Mbam = nothing.
-sfc /scannow = nothing
-Registry cleaned
-I only have 10k files indexed.
-120gb OCZ Vertex 3, 70gb free. Firmware updated.

Temps are normal, drive health is good.
I've run out of ideas. Thanks for any help.

Answer:PC slow, hangs after several hours of usage.

I am sorta taking a shot in the dark here but it does sound like it could be a not enough ram issue. How much ram does it show you are using and how much is installed?

Okay, so this is not a unique problem. At least a first blush. I've been reading these forums for years, along with others, and consider myself somewhat computer savy. That being said, here's my seemingly unsolveable dilema:

I built my computer a couple years back. Here are my specs:

WD Rapter 74GB Serial ATA HD
MS Windows XP Pro OEM version (newest service pack)
Pentium 4 3.6Ghz 660
Intel D945PSN Board (newest BIOS)
Xfinity 500 Watt ATX power supply
1 DDR2 @ 1GB
1 DDR2 @512MB
Nvidia 7800GT

Everything ran fine for about 6-8 months, then after moving my computer would sometimes power down at random. After doing a lot of research I discovered it was due to overheating (typical in these situations). I applied new thermal grease, and everything would appear fine for awhile. Typically, I would find my computer turned off overnight, or while playing a graphics intense game. This was ultimately due to overheating. I inspected the board, there are no ruptured/eroded capacitors, and no shorts/contacts interfering with the board and the case. I ultimately discovered that the CPU fan (stock) for the P4 did not have copper connections and was entirely aluminum, keeping my processor at 55C idle and ~68-71 full load. After 15 minutes it would shut off, which is expected. However, it doesn't turn back on for several hours, and usually the I/O has to be off during this time (capacitor draining?, some other reason?).

Today I bought the Cooler Master Hyper TX... Read more

Answer:Computer shuts down randomly, takes a couple hours to turn back on (not due to heat)

Re: Computer shuts down randomly, takes a couple hours to turn back on (not due to he

Oh yes, one more point:

When I do switch off the PSU and turn it back on (after the lights on the motherboard turn off) it flashes on for about 1 second and the fans all turn and then it immediately turns off. This happens no matter what is attached/removed from the motherboard. Only after a cool down period (usually well over an hour) does everything boot up fine again, and run normally until deciding to shut off. This can happen after an hour, or after several days use of turning on and off.

When Windows loads up, i try to open Task Manager and it takes about 20-30 to open up and i see it at 100% CPU usage already. I can't even run Malwarebytes or anything because its too slow or won't even load up.

I've had my computer for about 3 years, a Dell Dimension 4700,Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 3. Lately it's been running a lot slower than it used to. I can't seem to figure out what's causing my computer to be slow. My fan inside my tower has been louder and my tower has been making louder noises. When opening "My Computer" it takes about 2 minute to load, and Microsoft Word freezes more often now.

It takes forever to pull up Interent Explorer... and still everything is very slow in terms of reaction time to my clicking/typing. If I leave my computer on overnight, it takes a few minutes it seems to "warm up" once I try to access an application.

Any suggestions? I know this is a vague description. Thanks.

Hello there,

I have an eight year old Gateway computer. It is just a regular, single home desktop. It has Windows XP Home Edition, 1.25 GB of RAM (originally had 256MB of RAM and I added two sticks of 512MB of RAM). I updated my computer to Service Pack 2 using Microsoft's Windows Update. My internet speed is about 6 - 8 MB's per second (cable).

Here is my problem: When I do not use my computer, it automatically starts to load like crazy. All I hear is the churning inside my PC's tower, but nothing comes up on the screen. After 30 seconds to 1 minute, the churning goes away. Also, when it churns, I see the hour glass next to the arrow on the screen. This happens once in a while, but it is suspicious. My computer hasn't been running like it used to, so I'm concerned if there are any viruses/trojans/malware/spyware deep inside my computer that are hiding from my numerous virus/spyware scans.

Also, when this problem started, I noticed that my Internet Explorer 7 has been scrolling up and down choppy on a lot of websites. Right now, if I scroll up and down this message body where I am typing this message, it will be sluggish. But, if I scroll Tech Support's website, it is not sluggish. Even when I highlight this text, it is sluggish to highlight. Websites like -- YouTube -- forget it. Very slow and I can't even play YouTube's HD videos as they are very choppy.

I would like to know from the experts if there is anything suspicious on my computer that shou... Read more

first, I have no idea if this computer is infected so if this post needs to be moved, please feel free. I wasn't sure where to ask this.

I noticed a few weeks ago that every time I left my netbook idle and come back to it, it takes longer to move around(on internet, using Outlook) and I end up rebooting and then it's fine again until I let it sit again. I have tried to change when the screen saver (or lack thereof, it just goes dark) initiates but it's not recognizing that at all. I changed it in control panel to start screen saver after 120 minutes and chose a particular screen saver. that screen saver does not initiate at all. it just goes dark after about 5 minutes of being idle.

I cleaned up some temp files and removed some software that I'm not using and also ran defragmenter a couple of weeks ago. this helped for a few days. I just ran defragmenter again today and it helped for a few hours and I just rebooted after leaving it idle for a few hours.

it's an Acer netbook running Windows 7. I ran malwarebytes anti malware and Avira anti virus scans and those were clean. any ideas on what else I can do/check?

thanks much.

I have WinXP on my Toshiba laptop. This problem started about a couple months ago in which every week or two my computer becomes so slow it is virtually impossible to use. I have to do a restore to get it going again. I think I had a trojan downloader virus that I thought was taken care of but it seems to never really recovered since then. I run zone alarm as well. I'm pretty sure I still have a virus hiding somewhere any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Why does my computer get so slow every couple weeks?

Download 'Hijack This!
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/hijackthis.php

*Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
*Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
*By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
*Click on Install.
*It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
*Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
*Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log *should open in notepad.
*Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents *of the log.
*go to this thread and post the contents
*DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

now please wait for a mod to analyse your log

Hi, finally managed to log into my computer after two hours trying. Windows would not let me type the password and I had to restart the computer about 10 times! I was very worried! I tried to flush dns but wouldn't allow me to. I am concerned about spyware. But I have installed full avg for a month. What could be the possible problem? My pc is a Sony vayo vgc-ln1m, and I have had it for about four years. I understand that i might need to update 6 of my drivers but i don't think that it is vital. Recently Sony sent me a new power supply because the old one was recalled due to a major fault. Please help I am a girl and I am no geek. :)chrissy

Answer:Computer to slow, won't allow log in for at least 2 hours

Do you mean that when you typed in the password box nothing appeared on the screen? If it is working right now download MalwareBytes for starters from here:http://www.filehippo.com/download_m...Install it and run it. I've found that it often finds things that AV's miss.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Does anyone know why after my computer is on and idle for 2-3 hours it runs really, really slow? I mean I can click on a icon and it takes 8-15 seconds to respond. I have an HP 1 Ghz. 512 MB (maxed). 60 GB mem.
Yes, I have cleaned the files and done a defragmentation. This computer is usually very fast. It only happens when it has sat for a while, idle.
Thanks in advance.

I am currently doing exams and coursework and I will be in the middle of a piece and then I get BSOD. work just doesn't save even auto saving :/ so I want to know your advice and what I should do ??? Tell me what else you need to know

Answer:Windows 7 BSOD every couple of hours

Was anything changed recently... like new drivers or perhaps a change in the BIOS? The error is pointing to a problem with Netio.sys which is sitting at an invalid memory address.

Some nights when I go home and come in the next morning my screen won't come back up. I try hitting ctrl alt del and nothing. I even tap the power button which is supposed to shut down XP safely and that doesn't even work. Nothing seems to work. I have to hold down the power button which I hate. I'd say this happens once a week. I've tried adjusting the power settings to no avail. Can someone help? I feel dumb for asking this cause I'm sure it's an easy fix. I'm just over thinking it.

Thanks, Andy

I've noticed that my TFT monitor goes funny ie the bottom two thirds go lighter and fuzzy and the cursor is virtually impossible to control. A quick reboot cures the problem. This has been happening since I got it a couple of weeks ago. My son is on it for long periods of time and I've never heard him complain, so it may be something I'm doing. Any ideas what it could be? My OS is XP home

Answer:Monitor goes funny after a couple of hours

It may be that you are operating it at a resolution that it does not like, when your son is playing games the resolution used is quite a bit lower than is normally used. Check on the handbook for your display, it should list the resolutions that it is designed to operate at, plus the others that will work but are not recommended (Which could be what is causing your problem.).

My Win7 Cube desktop keeps closing itself down after what I guess is about a couple of hours in idle. The processor is Intel Core2 Quad Q9650 @ 3.00 GHz with 4GB of RAM, Windows 7 (32 bit) Home Premium SP1. I have automatic Windows updates set on, and Avira free a/v.
I guess this started happening about 6 months ago. It's not my main pc so I was none too bothered at the time, thinking it was a Windows glitch which would be sorted out in a subsequent update. But now it's getting on my nerves and I want to find out the cause.
This machine is rarely used for anything other than internet browsing. When in use, it's fine - no hint of trouble.

For the last two hours, I've been waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting for sites to load on my PC. Sometimes they'd load entirely at normal speed, sometimes they'd load entirely but take about a minute, sometimes they'd start loading and NEVER finish, and other times I wouldn't be able to access the Net at all. I assumed at first it was a problem with my connection, but when I checked on my iPad, everything was fine. So it was just my PC that was affected. It SEEMS to be back to normal now, but can anyone tell me what might have caused this, and how I might be able to avoid it happening again?

Answer:The Internet just slowed down for a couple of hours on JUST my PC

A strong candidate is a corrupt dns cache. Open an elevated command prompt and type ipconfig /flushdns. If you need help with an elevated command prompt just ask.

My pc seems to get very high CPU at times, which makes the computer very slow especially the internet which goes straight to 'not responding'.

Recently it has been doing it alot where the CPU and computer fluctuate between being normal and silent to then suddenly loud with CPU upto 50-70% and at some points much higher.
This fluctuates a lot e.g every minuite on average.

I put CPU processes tab in Windows Task Manager

-When silent and normal, 'System idle process' seems to be around 47, then 70 then 90.
'jqs.exe' popped up a few times as well.
A few 'iexplore.exe' names pop up especially, fuctuating under 'System idle process'(at the top).
The CPU can be low around 2%-4% with the odd high numbers fluctuating and appearing up to 60%.

-When loud and slow, the CPU can be up to 70%, fluctuating higher at times.
'System idle process' is up to 99%
avp.exe is up there aroudn 16% and more
Around 3-4 'iexplore.exe' around 34% and much higher names appear with some above 'system idle process'
'jqs.exe' popped up a few times again

The CPU seems to move about to high %s even when quiet and then it leads to being noisy within a minute since being silent.

Answer:My PC has high CPU loads a few times every couple minutes

my pc hit 100 in the CPU today, making the internet freeze, until I ended the internet programme in task manager. Why is the CPU getting this high?

Please help. My computer is incredibly slow and sometimes won't even fully boot up because of that and so I need to restart and cross my fingers. The computer is especially slow with regards to using Firefox or anything internet related. This is a Dell Inspiron 9300 running Windows XP Home; it's about 3.5 years old. At this point, my computer is so full of applications I don't need or use that the computer's memory and disk space are both running at almost max capacity, which I assume accounts for some but definitely not all of the slowness.

Answer:Loose internet connection every couple of hours

Go into the router's settings and check that the DHCP Lease Time is set to an adequate value. Mine is set to 1440 minutes (24 hours), although the DHCP server *should* automatically renew the lease long before it expires. In your case, a short lease time might be causing the PC to lose its IP address. When a PC is rebooted, it will request a new IP address from the DHCP server. Alternatively, you could try giving the PC's network adapter a fixed IP address to see if that resolves the problem.

I have a brand new custom built XP MCE machine that has begun freezing after being left on for several hours. I'm not sure the exact time as this usually happens overnight.

When I first got the machine it crashed often, especially during graphics intensive games, (ie F.E.A.R), usually accompanied/preceded by a stage rhythmic white noise sound from the speakers.

I changed the graphics card, (a PCI-E Geforce 6600 512mb), as the company supplying the system said it should be either memory or graphics card - and an overnight run through of memtest showed 0 errors in the memory.

Now the system is much more stable - but does very occasionally crash during intensive operations - again with the strange, rhythmic white noise coming from the speakers and as mentioned above will hang if left on for a number of hours.

Does anybody have a clue about this it's very annoying as being an MCE machine I want it to stream/record TV/Video but it can't record if it's freezing all the time. I'd rather solve the problem myself as it's so intermittent & hard to predict I'm not sure how they'd fix it if I send the thing back!

We have a optiplex 755 desktop PC at work and I just recently reinstalled the os which is xp. I have added the pc to our domain at work as well and everything seemed fine the first day, but the next day I noticed I could not remotely log into the PC and I could ping it but I could not remote in. I went to look at the pc and noticed that it was on but there was just the desktop backgound screen, I could move the cursor around but nothing else. When I say blank desktop, I mean it only shows the desktop and thats it, not any icons and the start button. I tried to do Ctrl+Alt+Del but that did nothing. I eventually just had to turn the PC off by the power button after it shut off about a second later it showed numbers 3 and 4 lite up on the tower and just shutdown. Once I turned it back on then everything came up fine, but I did notice once I typed in my windows login it took several seconds before it logged on, once logged on then everything was fine. I checked on it through out the day and about 5 hours later I noticed there was a blank desktop screen again and I had to turn it off by the power button I made sure that my network cable was plugged in and patched right. You would think if it were an network problem that I would not be able to ping it at all. When the blank blue screen appears it is still on the network because I can ping it. Look in the Event Viewer to see what errors are showing up at those times. Go to Start> Run and type in eventvwr.msc then press Enter. When the Event Viewer opens click on Applications in the left pane. If you double click on an error a description of the error will open. Click on the copy icon, (the copy icon is highlighted with the red square in the picture below), once this is done you can right click and paste this description. Answer:Homegroup Stops working after a couple of Hours

Hi Amirsad,

Is your Norton perhaps a Norton Security Suite, perhaps the Firewall is the issue? Try disabling all NIS services running for now and see if the Norton is the culprit. Click on Start and type msconfig press enter, locate Service Tab and uncheck all Norton Services.

I ran disk cleanup and deleted all temporary files and temporary internet files (and pretty much everything else that was selectable). I then rebooted in safe mode and deleted the framwork.exe file, then emptied the recycle bin, then scanned with AVG which said there was no virus detected. When I rebooted normally, it soon reappeared.

I have DSL internet service, and I use both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.

I have done some research, and this forum seems to be my best bet.

I will go ahead and post my HJT log in case it helps. Thank you for your assistance.

Answer:Infected with Win32/Sality... need help in the next couple hours, if possible.

Hi and welcome to TSG.

Sality infects every exe file and is difficult to eradicate but it can be done. We will probably have to run several scans, some of them many times, until they come up clean so please expect that.
Download AVG Anti-Spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.

When the trial period expires it becomes feature-limited freeware but is still worth keeping as a good on-demand scanner.

Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double click it to launch the set up program.
Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG Anti-Spyware and update the definition files.
On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
Next select the "Start Update" button. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.

Once the update has completed, select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
Under "Reports"
Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close AVG Anti-Spyware. Do Not run a scan just yet, we will run it in safe mode.
Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to ... Read more

I have my power settings set to never sleep and to never turn off the display.

I left my computer on for a few hours without touching anything and the display eventually went off

I was just wondering, why is it doing this if I set the settings to never. It sort of worked because it didn't turn the display off after 15 minutes, but a few hours later
Is there something on windows that turns the display off if it's been idle for 3hours+
This is just something I'm curious about

Answer:Display turns off after a couple of hours idle?

Perhaps you have made changes to the wrong power plan in Windows?

I have a cable modem, and a netgear router. For some odd reason, eventually the internet on my computer and the other computer stops working. But going online on my xbox works. To fix this, I've been shutting down my computer, starting it up, popping in my router cd, going to auto settings which detects a connection, then I click apply, boom I got my internet for about 10-15 hours before it up and stops working again.

Things i've noticed are it wont work if I go into the cd without restarting the computer and the fact that restarting my computer alone doesnt fix the problem, each time I have to go into the cd. Also, if I restart my computer while the internet is still working, I have to pop the cd in. Well....I dont pop the cd in, cause naturally under these circumstances I keep it in there always

So uh, what the hell is goin on here lol?

Answer:Router Loses Connection After A Couple Of Hours

The first thing I would do is check for a firmware update for the Router.

Check the manufacturers site to see if there is a newer version, they will also give you instructions on how to do the update I would imagine!

Hi, I got this drive for christmas. I installed it into the comp properly. I assigned the letter "D" and then initialized it. It seemed to format easily. I ran a virus scan and adware scans before attempting the format. I have put some files on it. Then a couple of hours later I found I could no longer locate the drive. It was no longer visible in disk management. I have tried to rescan with no results. However it is visible in the bios.

There were two error messages. The first was as follows, Type- Error, Source Service Control Manager, Event ID, 7023. Description; The application mangement service terminated with the following error. The specified module could not be found. The second error message said, Type Warning, Source, Disk, Event Id, 51. Description; An error was detected on device \device\harddisk2\D during a paging operation.

The o/s is windows xp home. The comp is a 2.4 ghz with 512 ram. The original harddrive is a 40 gig Maxtor. The new drive i was trying to get working is a Westerb Digital 160 gig - WD1600JB.

Answer:harddrive disappeared a couple hours after format

XP sometimes has problems running 2 hard drives on one IDE cable, try manually setting them as master and slave with the jumpers if that doesnt help see if you can download WD Data Lifeguard, if im not mistaken it has a diagnosis program for WD HDDs

I have a Intel Core 2 Dou 1.86ghz with 3GB of ram running Windows XP SP3.

I hooked up a corrupted hard drive to my computer to try to recover some data, and ever since then it takes 2 and a half minutes to come up with the log-in screen, and another 5 and a half minutes for the computer to completely load everything once I log in. That means from turning on the computer, and being able to use it, I have to wait 8 minutes. And even then it doesn't fully load everything...if I want everything to load, I have to log out after logging in, and then log in again.
Before all of this, I was up and running in less than a minute, so something is seriously wrong.

I have posted on many forums, but no one seems to want to help.

Please...if theres anyone on here that can help me even in the slightest bit, I would be so greatful.

I am pretty technically inclined, but can't seem to figure out what happened.

I don't have many things loading at start up, just the essentials (networking, anti virus, etc...)

Thank you ahead of time!

Recently I've being getting USB not recongized errors. I've searched on the internet and tried turning power off, removing battery since I have a laptop, removing all USB devices, waiting 30 minutes and restarting. It worked, for a couple of hours. Then the same thing would happen again. All USB ports will get usb not recongized, regardless of what I plug in. I've also tried USB hubs, did not work. The USB ports do supply power through, as I can charge my phone. I've reinstalled all USB drivers, which didn't fix the problem. HP Pavilion dv5 laptop, windows vista. Thanks for any help.

Answer:USB Device Not Recongized, solution only fixes for a couple of hours.

Try running your computer in "Safe Mode", then using your USB devices.
If the problem exists in safe mode, you could be experiencing a hardware issue.
If the problem disappears in safe mode..you have a "driver" issue most likely.

*Have you tried installing the most recent USB drivers from HP's website?

*Were any Windows updates installed prior to getting this error?
(Windows updates can install hardware drivers that can cause issues)...

Hi,

i have a weird problem with my x200.
If i have the wireless switch turned on and i put my laptop on standby (close the cover).
After some time it just starts again.

It does the same thing if i leave it on standby from vista or xp.
I don't use some wireless router for the internet.

Should i upgrade the firmware or stuff like this ?

Is there a possibility that the machines infrared thing is interfering with some other wireless device that maybe my neighbor has ?

Answer:Satellite X200 starts up when on standby after a couple of hours

I doubt InfraRed would cause this.

Update the BIOS (which can be found on the Toshiba Website Drivers section).

Do you have a network or internet connection connected to the LAN port? Go into the BIOS and disable "Wake up on LAN" if available.

ok, as the title suggests, ever since skype updated to 6.14, I've been seeing excessive ram use after only a couple hours.

so..I devised a simple test, I closed and then relaunched skype to free the ram and then timed it.. after 3 hours roughly.. heres the ram consumption by skype...

the only things that have business seeing that kind of ram use are games(starwars the old republic can reach a gig and a half's consumption before win8 starts shedding non essential items from the cached memory), flash games, streaming videos, 3d modelling programs, and a few other things I cant think of off the top of my head.

that said..thats grossly excessive use there.

its not a virus, its not malware or spyware, I've already scanned for that...twice, using extensive scan options.

I cleared my message cache, reset IE as I know skype uses some of those settings, uninstalled and reinstalled skype.. past nuking my current os install I've got nothing left to throw at this.

help?

My laptop (Sony Z series VPCZ112GX) has been having BSODs and sometimes just completely stopping with a black screen and some white flickers every couple of hours. It happens at anytime - when I'm playing a game, browsing the web, or just listening to music. There are no triggers that I can tell. (In fact, it just crashed when I was typing up this post)

My laptop shipped with W7 x64, and I've done a complete fresh reinstall of W7 x64 and reinstalled all drivers, but it still occurs.

Details of system:
OS: W7 x64 Professional
CPU: Intel Core i5 520m 2.4ghz
Video Card: Sony Hybrid graphics with Intel Integrated and Nvidia 330m

My computer is only a month old.

Attached are all the BSOD collection files.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

sys ninja after firewall.txtCould someoeone tell me where thesefiles are necessary and how to stop them.
Even after Sytem Ninja finds the ccleaner finds more

Answer:thousands of files every couple of hours .5gig found

Obviously, those are temporary Internet Explorer files. You will get those every time you visit a web page. All the icons, photos and scripts are stored so that when you visit the page again, the page loads faster. I clear mine with CCleaner at the end of each day but you can reduce the size allocated for the files so that just the most recent are stored. You can also select to delete them at the end of a session but I like to keep certain cookies for logons, etc. so that's the reason I use CCleaner. (Allows exclusions)

I'm not sure why some are being stored in the SysWOW64 folder. I've never seen that. That folder is for 32-bit drivers and their configurations. It could be an Environment Variable is corrupt or misconfigured.

Hey guys,

I have an issue with my current network where every couple of hours I will lose my connectivity and it will not come back unless I do a power cycle on my router/modem. I originally thought the issue was with my router, however I'm beginning to think it's an issue involving the modem. I've tried two different routers and this happens on both. My main router is a D-Link WBR-1310 (crap I know but it was free) and has lasted for years, and my modem is a Toshiba PCX2500 from Time Warner Cable. The second router I used to test this was an older Linksys BEFW11S4. I was going to replace my router, but when I saw that both of them reset after a few hours (today was only 5, last night it was connected for over 8 hours as I slept). I ran an IPCONFIG /ALL when I was connected with internet and when I was connected without and the only three changes were:
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.100(Preferred)
Changed to:
Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address. . : 169.254.122.205(Preferred)
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
Changed to :

(DHCP Server Didnt even show)
and also

Changed to:

Hi there, I've been hooked on a game recently and been doing the same thing every time I turn my computer on for the past couple of months.  Only just the past couple of days something weird has been happening.  Upon starting up my computer, it'll load everything fine as usual.  Though, after about 5 minutes things seem to slow way down.  Whenever I click on something (Google Chrome, Start button, New tab, My game etc) The screen seems to freeze for about 5-10 seconds, then proceeds to load.  Sometimes it'll load fine or it'll be extremely slow until the process is complete.  After about 5-10 minutes everything returns to normal.

For months now, as soon as my PC starts up, i've been loading the task manager and terminating some processes (nothing important) to save them from opening up and clogging CPU.  Just things like AOL, MyTomTom (GPS programme), Webcam process, Windows Live Messenger etc.

I've restored my computer back a couple of weeks and ran a scan, though the problem still persists.  It's nothing major, it's just extremely frustrating.

I've tried numerous online searches aswell, though I'm having no luck finding anyone with the same problem.

Any thoughts?

Answer:Computer loads fine then runs really slow for 5-10 minutes.

Have you went to the msconfig and under the startup tab, disabled the programs from starting with your computer at startup? This may fix your situation of having the programs default to start with your pc.

My computer is the only one in the house hard wired to the router. After we had to buy a new router, I started having trouble. The biggest problem is that my internet connection keeps getting dropped and it is impossible to stay connected to attach pictures, watch videos, or listen to music. As time has gone on my start up time has increased, but this could be because I have trouble downloading updates. I have run the malware removal programs, but I can only find 2 of the logs. Help!

Answer:Computer loads slow and drops internet connection.

Welcome to Major Geeks!

I need the logs from Hitman Pro and Malwarebytes. Per your other logs in MGlogs.zip, it seems you did not run the scans and save the logs per the instructions. Please run these scans and attach the logs. Follow the instructions given for running them in Step 2 of the below link

Windows XP Malware Removal/Cleaning Procedure

Your problems may not be due to malware. It may just be due to the below
Code:
Total Physical Memory 512.00 MB
Available Physical Memory 121.77 MB
which shows that you do not have enough memory to properly run Windows XP SP3 and everything else you are running. You need 6 times this which is 3 GB or at a minimum at least 2 GB

Hi

This started happening a while ago my computer started getting slow and whenever I clicked on an application it would freeze then take up to 2 mins to open it. I ran memtest86 for 12 hours and it gave 0 errors but when I restarted my pc it just wouldn't boot up. I had done a norton full system scan a day or two before that happened and it gave 0 viruses (also did a malwarebytes scan). I did another full norton usb scan but it just took too long to complete but that also gave 0 viruses on the quick scan. At the moment im scanning the harddrive through windows and so far thats given 0 errors so I'm not sure what to do, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Some more info:
I can't open control panel and some apps like malwarebytes "dont exist"

I can access my harddrive when im logged in so I did backup some stuff

Everytime I'm logged in it takes up to 3 mins for a click to register even if I'm just clicking on the windows start menu icon.

Answer:My computer is incredibly slow and takes hours to boot up

Answer:Fell asleep for a couple hours with Y510P laptop on and this happened

issue still persists after restarting the computer?it usually points out graphic card/ram or mainboard issue.to make sure, you could just use external monitor to check if the issue still persists on the external monitor.if it doesn't persist, it's possible screen problem.if it persists, it's possible graphic card problem. in both cases, you should contact support line.

My problem is when I am watching flash videos, specifically YouTube and Twitch.TV, my sound stutters when opening another tab or just when simply watching the video and not doing anything else. Things like games and iTunes DO NOT stutter.

A good thing but sort of bad thing for troubleshooting is that the stuttering/popping of sound starts after a good 10 hours to a day of up time but DPC latency spikes are almost always there after a couple hours.

Its definitely not my computer specs/temps, nor my internet speed.

I am pretty sure my drivers are also up to date. Im on the latest BETA AMD GPU drivers (Note: I still had problems with the latest STABLE drivers) Everything in device manager is installed. I ran the intel update utility, install AISuite with all the drivers and grabbed the latest off of asus.com, and I also ran a driver upgrade program and upgrade 4 drivers in there and still nothing.

Ive tried disabling various different flashes in chrome://plugins aswell as updating flash, chrome etc.

I have disable Intel cpu throttling in bios and disabled in in power management. Ive also updated my bios to the latest as well as sound drivers.

I have also disabled all enhancements under audio device and I have tried ,to make sure its not speakers, playing sound through my monitors built in speakers and I have the same problem.

I did find people that had problems with AISuite and Avast antivirus which are programs I have and run.

I found out eventually its a problem rela... Read more

Answer:High DPC Latency, causing Audio STUTTERING after a couple hours uptime

If I'm correct, this only happens with Flash applications.

I assume you have only run DPC Latency Checker??? Have you run the Respledance Latency Monitor ? If not, suggest you run that as it may help you in troubleshooting.

Along with Sound drivers causing stuttering, Video drivers are also suspect, along with the Flash Player.

One other issue is the fact that Audio is on a Shared Interrupt (IRQ) with a higher priority device and in some circumstances the higher priority device can cause interruptions that sound like stuttering I haven't found how to manually change the Audio IRQ, but sometimes if the audio is uninstalled in the Device Manager (but do not uninstall the drivers) then the PC is restarted, when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. In some cases this will put sound on a different IRQ.

Hello All,

We have a Qmail server. I checked the queue using "./qmail-qread" to see if there is any legit email hanging on the queue which might have caused the delayed in the delivery of our email. I found no legit email (legit email as in email that we wanted).

So I come to the conclusion that those delayed email has not even reached our email server and therefore the problem is not in my email server. Is this conclusion right?

I still need to find out how to fix this issue. Our company is losing revenue because clients email didn't arrive on time. We have no problem sending out email, just receiving them. Can any one give me pointers?

Additional notes: Internal email works properly. Some random emails and junk mail seems to work as well. This means its not all email that gets delayed. However, it is more than 50% of our email is delayed.

Answer:Solved: Email received are delayed by couple hours - Urgent help needed

Hmm... it looks like it has something to do with my dns. I did a "host -t mx domain.com" and it returns me incorrect result. So I went it and fix that DNS problem and it seem like email is back to normal. I'm however curious as this happen very recently and I have not touch the DNS server for like many months. Going through the log file doesn't seem to have any illegal login attempts. Anyway, marking as solved. Hope this help those that having the same problem.

Answer:Windows XP Loads Slow, Computer Freezes up, H/D Light Stays On All The Time

Is the problem still there in Safe Mode? Are you loading up any programs at startup? Have you tried MSCONFIG to do any trouble-shooting by disabling everything and then starting them up one at a time until you find the culprit?

Hi guys! Yesterday I was having a hard time burning a dvd. The dvd process would go through and say it was successful, but when the dvd was ejected it was still empty. The burner didnt write the data for some reason, and it wasn't telling me it was failing either. So I started uninstalling the dvdshrink and dvdfab and nero programs, and re-downloading them to reinstall. I did this and my computer started getting slow and wacky. I would go to shutdown and restart and the windows would load as usual until it got to my desktop, explorer will not load up. I have to load explorer through the task manager. Not only that but my AVG resident sheild has been constantly popping up over and over again with infected files, hundreds of them in the win32 and system32 areas. I cannot heal or vault these for some reason. I ran a malware program that removed some, and I can sit through AVG scanning for 2 hours and it comes up with 900+ infections and can only heal or remove 90% of these. I am at a loss for what to do, I just wanted to burn my dvd's!! and all Hell breaks loose on my laptop, help!! Thank you!!

So yesterday I got a blue screen of death. I didn't read it, I just restarted teh comp. Well ever since then, teh computer loads slowly and when it does get to windows, it just has a black screen w/ just the cursor that I can move around.

Here are things I've tried

a) booting to safe mode (same thing, but with safe mode written in the corners)
booting to command prompt (doesn't work, it boots to safe mode w/ black screen)
c) ctrl+alt+del to run explorer.exe (can't ctrl+alt+del)
d) right clicking (doesn't work)
e) windows cd -> repair an installation using recovery console (didn't know what to do from here), but explorer.exe is in the folder

Anyother options?

A few things I've noticed

a) the screen saver still comes on
rarely it will get all the way to the "log in" screen. I think this happens if I let it sit for hours.

Memory issue?

Answer:computer loads slow, black screen w/ only cursor. clicking, ctrl+alt+del don't work

The laptop loads fine when starting up, but once I get to sign in screen, it begins to load and load, even up to hours, after putting in the password. Afterwards, the content on the main screen often takes long periods of time load as well. Loading is very slow, but the strange thing is, when I do get to play a game, everything works as if it were brand new, very smoothly. I need some help solving this!

Error 1067 - for various processes - Audio not working
hi, I originally posted this problem with no response so far. the problem has gotten worse since my post.

I am not sure what happened to my computer. I was surfing the net, clicked on something, then strange stuff started happening. First I tried to watch a movie and all of a sudden there was no sound. I tried to listed to a song in iTunes and had an error that there is a problem with my computer's audio/video settings configuration and the playback may not work properly. when I go to settings/admin tools/services and try to start windows audio - I get the error "Could not start the windows audio service on local computer. Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly". Plug and play is started and seems to work. I get the same error for a few other services, eg, restore backup.

I tried to do a restore backup, but I consistently get an error that restore backup is not able to protect my computer and I must restart. Restarting does not help.

the start/task bar changed from the XP mode to the windows classic mode with a larger font, items from taskbar dissapeared.

I have AVG as my anti virus and it was clean (only a few cookies that it removed). Malwarebytes and Spybot; anti malware does not open for some reason - both installed but neither would open.

chkdsk.exe (in read only mode) came back clean the first time. the only thing it said "Warning! F parameter not specified" at the very top. ... Read more

Answer:Computer when it loads loads with yellow lines all over.

It's probably just a coincidence that the problem started after McAfee. Why did you buy it in the 1st place? Microsoft Security Essentials is free as are several other AV programs. Try reinstalling your graphics drivers, if that doesn't help, try uninstalling McAfee. You can always reinstall it again.http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/...

I ran most of the known and unknown scanning software, the results were always the same (nothing but few cookies). Computer specs:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
4GB RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.20GHz
Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500 Series
-------------------------------------------

My computer is easily overburdened, at which point the CPU usage will shoot to 100% and the computer slows to a an unusable crawl (memory usage remains at 1.6GB out of 4). Letting the computer sit for a little while returns it to normal. These symptoms can be caused by something as simple as playing music on iTunes for more than 30 minutes or playing online games. An actual computer game program is completely out of the question.

This has been going on for a while, and I'm not sure what could have caused it. The only thing out of the ordinary that happened around the time I noticed this problem was that I lent the laptop to someone for a few hours, so I'm not sure if something happened in that time. I also think I switched to windows 7 around that time, although I can't remember if that was before or after I noticed this problem. I had owned the computer for several months before this problem started and it functioned just fine.

I went through all the steps in the malware forum and made a post, and was told that the logs revealed no malware. So I'm wondering if this could be caused by a hardware issue. I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone had any ideas about what might be causing this and how to fix it.

Answer:Computer slow down, CPU usage 100%

It could easily be caused by a standard Windows service (like DNScache) kicking in.

You'll need to spend some time with Task Manager to figure out what's at fault here.

Recently my computer has become very slow and freezes often. What I have noticed when I open Windows Task Manager is that under the performance tab the CPU usage is always 100%. There are also many processes running under Processes Tab. Is this most probably the root cause of my problem? If so, how can I fix it?

Thanks for any help!

Hi, I'm new to the forums, and I was wondering why my computer is so slow. It's usually running very fast. I have 16GB of ram on a 64bit windows 7 computer. My computer usually runs fine, but starting two days ago, when I get on to my computer the CPU usage is less than 10%, but it's extra slow and it freezes. I don't know how to fix this. I don't think it's malware, because I ran two different malware checks on my computer and nothing came up. If you need any more information about my computer, then ask me. Also my computer runs perfectly on safe mode (which is what I'm using now).

Thanks,

Sometimes it's not at 100% and the computer seems to be working fine, I dont know why it is at 100% at times and not at others.

a 100 cpu usage, even when I have no open applications.

When I turn off my modem the usage lowers to normal, so I think this has to do with malware or something like that. I already ran Avg antivirus and it shows only a change in hosts, What should I do?

Thank You

I have a laptop that is not ultra new but quite powerful and it has been fine, it lets me do everything I need, but recently it has become incredibly slow to the point where I can't do anything...Even turning on the computer and Windows startup is so slow, and turning it off. If I restart it seems to get a BIT better but is still slow, and then when I open a few things up it just becomes terrible again. I have defragged, CHKdisked etc to no avail and so I wonder if I am infected with anything and have followed the kind guide on here.

Here is the DDS file:

Hello,
I hope you can help me with my laptop problem. My computer has been running exceptionally slow over the past week.
I've tried running all sorts of malware programs: Spybot, SUPERAntiSpyware, Advanced SystemCare and the suggested programs in the Read Me post.

Please let me know what recommendations you have.
Thanks!

I've attached the logs of:
RogueKiller
Malwarebytes
TDSSKiller
HitmanPro
MGlogs.zip

Answer:Slow Computer/97% RAM usage

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Although you have a little junkware to cleanup, I don't think your problems are due to malware. I think it is due to what you have installed.

Please try uninstalling all of the below:

Spybot
All of the IObit software you installed ( Advanced SystemCare, TuneUp Utilities...etc )
Norton PC Checkup
SUPERAntiSpyware
Now reboot your PC and do the below.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
The tool will open and start scanning your system.
Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

Then attach the below logs:

the JRT.TXTlog
C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Heya. My computer's been running pretty slow and lagging lately. It has a CPU usage at 100% almost constantly, with explorer.exe at 95-99%.

Answer:Slow computer with CPU usage at 100%

Running Norton AV and AVG at the same time is not a good idea. They will compete for resources and possibly crash Windows. You should pick one and uninstall the other (I use AVG).

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your... Read more

Answer:Computer Slow, Always At 100% Usage

Hello Bubba57 and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean. The HijackThis forum deals exclusively with virus and malware issues. HijackThis does not have the capability to analyze performance, hardware or application issues. For these types of issues I would suggest posting to the Windows XP Home and Professional forumThe techs in that forum specialize in matters pertaining to the operating system, performance and applications. When posting to any other forum, do not post a HijackThis log or the post will simply be moved back to this forum for infection analysis. That is what HijackThis is used for and that is what we specialize in here in this forum. Also, when posting in any other forum for assistance, give as much detail as possible regarding any issues that are occurring. The more information they have, the better the techs can analyze the issue and make any recommendations for resolving it.Cheers.OT

CPU usage goes straight to 100%, so my computer runs very slow, I have an old PC I admit - a Compaq Presario S5160UK and I don't know much about computers so a bit stuck as to what to do.I've recently added 1GB of memory, which has all worked fine.I have also run WinASO Registry Optimizer and cleaned all errors.I basically use it for internet browsing, facebook and a few on-line games. The highest usage seems to be svhost.exe - but I have no idea what that means I'm afraid, as I said I know nothing about computers. Any help would really be appreciated. Many thanks

http://www.malwarebytes.org/Sounds like you're infected. Download and run this. Also run a good virus scan. Are you using a virus scanner? Then use this program to clean up the machine. It's free and works well. It's called ccleaner slim.http://www.freewarefiles.com/CClean...

Info:
I was receiving BSoDs after start-up (sometimes after few minutes of normal use). So I went to the appropriate forum and started debugging. The problem is that now my computer runs really slow and Task Manager shows that I'm using 100% CPU.

Why would this be? it was not running slow before I started debugging.

The only alterations I've made have been:

to reinstall my Wireless USB Adapter, which seems to be causing a BSoD when connected to a network (but that being dealt with elsewhere)

set my cd-drive to 1st bootable in BIOS

download, extract, burn memtest to disc and attempt to run (still have not got memtest to work)

download/install HD Tune

download/install HD Diagnostic Tool

any ideas will be appreciated.

Answer:Slow computer, 100% CPU Usage

You know how to start up task manager, go to the processes list and check which one or ones is eating all your CPU.

You could have malware, though it doesn't seem exclusively like a malware problem.

Hello there.

As of yesterday, my computer turned really slow. My first thought was that my drivers were out of date, however they didn't seem to be. After that I tried to try out a system restore. That didn't help either. So I went on the internet, and realized it was probably a trojan. And it sure was. After scanning my computer with Malwarebytes, I found "x.exe", some trojan that I believe Malwarebytes deleted. However, after this, my computer is still running slower than it should be. I have no idea why that is. I have 4 GB DDR3 RAM, which should be sufficient. I've got a i5 @ 2.4 ghz processor. When i go to the task manager, my CPU usage is below 20% most of the time, so I have no idea why my computer is running slow. Hope you can help.

Cheers

Amnesia80

EDIT: It is probably worth noting, that I have nothing running in the background. I've closed everything except AVG really.
