Seagate Harddrive PC Board Replacement

Question: Seagate Harddrive PC Board Replacement

I have the following model Seagate Hardrive and was wondering if anyone knew of reliable resources to get a new circuit board for this item. I have been checking ebay, online sites, ect...so any additional assistane woul dbe helpful.
Model ST340823A
U Series 5
IDE drive
Seagate 40 GB
Firmware 3.07
I have seen a lot of models that are close - just not exact match. I'd toss the drive, but there is about a years worth of photos on there that I unfortunately did not have a backup for.

Thanks in advance

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have this WD My Passport external portable harddrive which I have used for a couple of years. I was writing something to the drive one day when the USB connection seems to be somewhat loose and the drive disconnected momentarily and reconnected itself but the file I was trying to write ended prematurely...

Now when I try to use the Seagate Harddrive test tool for windows and do a Short Generic test and the result failed.. I am fear it might have been caused by the disconnection and might eventually corrupt the entire drive... I try to run chkdsk but there aren't any errors detected it seems and files seems to be accessible as normal... Is there a way to fix the harddrive without losing data in the drive or confirm the drive is indeed failing?

Answer:Seagate Harddrive test tool fail but harddrive data seems intact

Run the most thorough and extensive test available with the WD hard drive utilities.

If it fails the thorough test, you may have a warranty claim.

Or the Seagate tool. Whatever you have. Your title is confusing.

I'm considering a new harddrive, but until I ran across an attractive offer for the 1.5TB, I had been thinking of the 1TB instead. The larger drive has the following specs:

Formatted Capacity : 1.5TB
Interface Type: Serial ATA-300
Buffer Size: 32MB
Spindle Speed: (RPM) 5900 RPM
Average Latency: 4.16 ms
Data Transfer Rate: Buffer to Host Up to 300MBps
Sustained Throughput: Up to 115MBps
Ports and Connectors: 7-pin Serial ATA Connector
Manufacturer Warranty: 5 Year Limited Warranty

The thing that stands out in my eye is that the spindle speed is slow compared to the 1TB, which is 7200 RPM, but I think the warranty is a bit longer.

I recall recently reading an article posted in the forums news board that said that the 1 TB was the fastest drive in it's class, but the sustained throughput of this drive is slightly faster...I think.

The extra 500GBs would definitely be a plus, but would it really perform as well as the 1TB? Is there any other aspect to consider?

Answer:Seagate 1.5TB Harddrive

that...is an odd RPM value for a HD

Hi, I have a 500gb, harddrive wich doesn't start, it worked perfectly before, and now just suddenly it wont start at all. I'm not angry about it yet becuase I still have hope this can get fixed.

I pop the adapter in, nothing happens, plug the stuff to the computer, nothing happens. I got no clue what to do really. IF it can destroy the adapter if I put a ac adapter for a portable computer inte it while it was off, that can be it. OR if it got broken by safely lying in my bag. Just tell me how I can fix this, Please. I'm So thankful for anyone who can help me with this.

I noticed on these two drives they have a jumper pin on them
with jumper pin 1.5 g/sec
without jumper pin 3.0 g/sec

If my motherboard is compatible with the 3.0 g/sec transfer rate
can I pull the jumper out, or do the drives only operate at that speed in a raid configuration or is it even worth the hassle ?

Answer:Seagate 500 & 750 gig Harddrive queston

THat jumper is so that the faster Sata 2 (300Gb/s) drives will work on the older Sata (150Gb/s) sata controllers. If your controllers are Sata 2 then yo can remove the jumper and not worry about it.

A while back I bought a Seagate 1TB harddrive, but until recently it was just stored away and not used.
Recently I wanted to expand a XP system I have containing a M4A79XTD Evo mboard, so I just popped in the 1TB. But, to my surprise, the harddrive showed up as only 32MB. So I went into Ubuntu(dualboot with XP) and format the drive, then restart. Back in XP it finally showed up as 939GB. Then I turned off the computer. When I turned it back on later, the drive was back at showing 32MB.

The only thing that worked was when I used ext2 on Ubuntu to format the drive. I wanted to do a clean OS install on the 1TB, but no OS under the sun wants to install, because it jumps back to showing 32MB. I can only store files with Ubuntu under ext2.

I've tried the drive in other computers, with various cables, external enclosures, etc.

So now my question is, do I have a nice looking paperweight, or do I miss something important?

PS: Seagate ST31000528AS

Hi guys,

I'm really in desperate need of help right now. My harddrive just died and all my essays and school stuff are in it and the due dates are within days.

So I turned on my pc this afternoon, did some stuff and turned it off, then i wanted to turn it on again but the harddrive is no longer detected by BIOS.The bios gives the typical message of no harddrive detected, plz insert boot media and press a key blah blah blah.i also noticed that the whole start up becomes incredibly slow, even for loading the bios setup. I bought this new pc during xmas and its just been a lil bit over 3 months.

seagate barracuda 7200.11 500Gbytes
motherboard is Asus P5QL Pro
4gig mem.
geforce 9800gt
intel 2.5Ghz

the machine's been perfectly normal for 3 months except very occassional blue screens, and now the hd is not dectected all of a sudden.

i did not install anything or remove anything in hardware/software,i tried a different sata cable for dvd-rw which is recognized by bios, plugging into a different sata plug on the motherboard, and nothing happens.

when i start the machine i can hear that there's a couple clicks in the harddrive,so obviously its still running, but after that its all silence and there's no activity at all thereafter.

does this indicate a dead harddrive that can only be replaced?is there any chance i can recover the data on the harddrive?

thx tons for any reply!!!

Answer:seagate harddrive problem

This happened like a day ago for me with the same drive. I fixed it by resetting the cmos, it was either that or the cable was loose (because i took it out and put it back in) so check the cables, if that does not do it, try a cmos flash.

EDIT: wait, the cmos flash fixed my 1tb drive, not the 7200.11, my bad.

I have a problem with my Seagate external harddrive. It won't let my computer start. It stops at the BIOS screen and does nothing. I tried pressing the BIOS setup or System recovery but it doesn't work. I found out that my external harddrive was the problem after serveral tries. I took the plug out of my computer and restarted it. It worked fine. I plugged it back in again to the computer and it was detected in Device Manager but not detected on Windows. In Device Manager it said there was no problem at all. However when I clicked computer the external harddrive didn't show up. I also have to mention that I dropped my harddrive accidentally. It keeps making a beeping noise every other second. It was a regular beep, nothing out of the ordinary. I also tried diagnosticing my drive. However that was a problem too. It made another error. I also tried to plug the external harddrive to another computer and it also made the beeping noise and it didn't show up on the otehr computer. I'm starting to think that this is an external error with the parts inside than internal with software and other stuff. I don't think that I like recovering my data with experts because it costs a lot of cash. The ohter option is to replace my drive with another one from seagate. The warranty is still on and won't expire in a while. Oh yeah and I just recently discovered that on the other computer I tested the drive on it starts up when I plug it in before I start the computer.

Need to swap (1) electronic board with another.

Understanding that when pulling off the circuit board, dust should not enter the opened case.
I must do this to recover data.

a) will pulling the board expose the internal drive?

b) it looks as if the board is held in by #6 torx bit or #8?
Are the (6) torx screws the only thing holding the board on?

c) Is there a standard procedure for doing this? How can I ensure no dust will enter?

d) Is a clean room required for changing the circuit boards?

e) if the drive is exposed, is there an open magnetic force?

I bought a new Seagate 250GB EIDE HD 7200/8MB/ATA-100 and would like to replace my old drive with it in my Dell? Dimension? 4400 (Pent 4 1.80GHz, 768mb Ram, running Windows XP Home). I need some advice on how I should format this new drive and then clone and replace my old drive with the new Seagate drive using Norton Ghost 2003.

What is best way to format the harddrive to get it ready to clone - using (Control panel > Administrative tools > Computer management > Disk Management) or formating it via Windows XP CD or is there a better way/easier??? Thanks.

Hi, and thanks in advance to any help. Today I noticed that my Seagate 250gb harddrive is not showing up under my computer as a disk. This happened after a reboot. It is the only usb device plugged into my computer and my taskbar recognizes it with the safely remove hardware icon. Under. It also shows up in disk management as unallocated with no partition. It has been fussy before but has worked fine for awhile now. Is there anything I can do or have I lost all of my data? Also it was pretty full with just 5% freespace on it before this happened. I know I probably should have backed up this data but now I am nervous because I have important stuff on there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Problem
- My 500GB Seagate external harddrive can't be recognized in the computer (as if it wasn't there) when plugged via USB
- It makes a repeated beep when connected to a plug
- I called technical support and they charge $300 for data recovery

Question
- If my external harddrive has failed, then what are some methods would Seagate use to recover the data?
- Can't I just open the casing and remove the SATA drive and plug it in with my SATA adapter (i know it voids warranty, but I'd rather have my data back at a cheaper price than to get a replacement harddrive)
- Isn't it possible that the casing might've broke, not the hard drive itself?
- What are your thoughts on this one?

A note from the Customer Service Representative:

You may wish to look into Data Recovery or to return the drive to us for an exchange

If you have any additional questions, please let me know.

What does that mean?

Answer:Seagate External harddrive failed, back for $300?

There is the possibility that it could be the encloser that has died.
The only way find out is to purchase another enclosure. However you will void any change at warranty if you pop open seagate's enclosure.

As the title says, my new Seagate Expansion Portable Drive is not working in the 3.0 slots in the front of my computer. It only works when i plug it into one of my two 2.0 slots on the back of my computer, which are both occupied by my mouse and keyboard, both of them are not backwards compatible. When my Drive is plugged into a 3.0, absolutely nothing happens. i get a green light on the drive, but it does not show up in my bios or in "My Computer". Works perfectly fine in a 2.0 though.

My motherboard is made by gigabyte, and is only about 2 months old, and my drive is 5 months old.

Answer:seagate external harddrive doesnt spin up

Could be any of several causes:
Harddrive dead
not enough power (try with laptop plugged into mains - not on battery power)
faulty cable
faulty usb port
Is it making the same noise as in this youtube vid?

So I have a seagate External drive which had been working perfectly fine for me right upto yesterday.
My kids were watching a film via the drive connected to my ps4 and all worked well but when I went to connect it to my netbook to manage some files it was no longer visible.
I've done extensive google searches but not come across anything that would seem to fix my problem.
The drive is visible in drive management but not in disk management. I have tried or in all the uso ports but that makes no difference.
The drive now no longer shows up when I plug it into the ps4 which leafs me to suspect that it's had it and I've lost whatever was on it.
One other thing to note is that when I connect it to my netbook it makes a noise like the drive inside is spinning to try and come to life.
Having said this however it had just decided to show up on my netbook so I am copying the files off of it right now to make sure they're not lost. I'm going to say however that this is going to need replacing right?

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and post that It was working fine without any issues. I have two external drive connected to it.

1. 1 TB Iomega powered drive. - now RAW
2. 2TB seagate external drive.

The 1tb drive suddenly became RAW and I wasn't able to access it. before it happened, I had removed some virus detected in the drive by the AVG antivirus. Post that once or twice it got disconnected and after that the drive became RAW. I understand the file system might have got corrupted since couple of times my system faced powercuts and before I could shut it down the system cut off from electricity as my UPS died on me.

I haven't formatted the disk at all, as I have all my important data in this HD as it was my backup drive for office and personal use.

Disk Management: shows the drive is RAW but a healthy Partition.

I opened the hard drive casing, tried connecting the drive directly to the internal sata cable but the same didn't read even then and still shows as RAW drive. I got a Storite USB to SATA adapter and tried that, the drive is now running fine(as it sounds) with intermittent kind of noise (clicking etc.,) for sometime and then disappears. After directly connecting the drive atleast the below softwares are able to read the data in the drive but unable to recover it.

I have tried recovering data using the below softwares.

1. EaseUS DAta recovery - took too much time to complete reading - 17% in more than 24 hours- stopped it.
2. M3 DAta recover... Read more

Answer:External 1TB harddrive(Iomega - seagate inside) RAW drive

My recommendation is to use [email protected] Recovery Pro. I had a similar situation (raw indication) on a drive a few months back and I tried several of the leading data recovery apps, and the one I recommended is the one that found the most stuff -- nearly everything. It took nearly a whole day to do an in-depth scan, but in the end, it was worth it. It's free to install and try out, but you need to buy a license to do any serious recovery work.

I have Windows 7 Home premium 64bit as I recently got a new computer, and to my surprise my seagate external Harddisk did not work. If I go to the Devices section, it is listed as Desktop. I have tried many things such as, rebooting, trying different USB, Assigning A letter to the Expansion and a few others as you will see in my screenshots. Just before I forget my old PC 32bit Windows 7 Ultimate, automatically detected my 500gb Seagate 500gb External Harddisk so I cannot see a problem with the Harddrive or with my computer as it is brand new and fully functioning. Below are my screenshots.

As you can see from these images non of the fixes on the fourm, or on seagate work. If you have any fix please reply to this post as soon as you can, or on the other hand any questions. I will be very grateful.

Sorry about the thumbnail, Not sure what happened there.

SATA or PATA????

Have you tried to remove it from the ext case and installed it into the computer...to check if any of the electronics in the external case failed.
could be something with the usb drivers in the new machine... might try unstalling from the device manager the usb controllers, maybe the composite device then turn the machine off and let windows reinstall 'em again and see if the drive is picked up.
At this point I'd be asking just how important is the data on this HD... I'd even go so far as see if I could put the HD into a friends machine,(or old 'puter), to see if it could be picked up???? Be sure and copy the data off the HD while you continue to trouble shoot the drive.
From experience..... the only drive I've not been able to finally detect ended up as a dead drive, "bfh"
luk to you.....

Anyone use the Seagate Replica software that comes with the 2T External Hardrive? This is the GoFlex Desk series of external harddrives.

The software does an automatic backup of all your computers harddrives and logical drives and backs up any changes periodically to the external hardrive. It is suppose to allow full recovery (it includes a boot disk, linux based for restoring from the backed up 'image').

Anyone use it, and does it successfully restore the 'image' in case of a full crash?

Answer:Seagate Replica (2T External Harddrive) GoFlex Desk

Why bother using third-party disk-imaging (especially from Seagate) when Windows 7 has it built-in?

It took a good couple of hours to complete the whole set up of the desktop, but according to the log, all Windows updates appear to have been successfully installed. (I mention this because I later found something on Lenovo's website about updating to Windows 10 when setting up your Lenovo for the first time - it mentioned trouble which may include the damaging or disabling of hardware? I can't seem to find this again, or else i would post a link. I think this may have been referring to upgrades to earlier windows versions rather than upgrades for Windows 10 applied to a machine which is sold with Windows 10 already installed.) My desktop seems to be up and running but I have just attempted to connect my Seagate Backup Plus portable drive using the USB port and it will not recognise it (I tried this on several ports).  I can feel the Seagate working but it does not show up under My Computer or anywhere else I can see.  I have tested the USB port by inserting a regular USB pen drive and it DOES recognise this. The Seagate previously worked on my Windows Surface Pro 3 with no trouble and I have all of my files backed up on it.  Hope somebody can help me figure out what is going wrong...  Many thanks!

Hi guys, I have a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 750 gig ST3750640AS hard drive which was inside a Seagate freeagent external hard drive enclosure. The hard drive suddenly stopped working and I have removed this drive from the enclosure so it is now a stand alone Sata HDD. Using a separate data recovery cable and power supply designed for this drive I have tried to power the drive up to try and make further use of the drive but the PCB on the back of the drive started to smoke ! Needless to say the drive is now seriously in danger of being binned but I would still like to grab the data off of the drive. Does anyone know how and where I can get a replacement PCB for the drive please? Is this a practical route to take? How easy is it to replace? Or any other suggestions other than using expensive data recovery processes to try and read the data? Thanks in advance for any advice... cheers Steve

Answer:Board Replacement

Ebay has always been a good place to find items like this....just be sure it has a warranty and the seller has 99% or better feedback rating, and that the shipping rates are realistic....Sometimes a board is only $70 and then the shipping is $50.00 etc... Anyone urgent to purchase might click BUY and then say great I just paid $120 for a $90 motherboard elsewhere and get ripped off by $30.I never made that mistake, but I am sure others have...especially items for a penny or dollar that are way under priced until you see the shipping brings its cost into check with what it should cost or even more than you would pay elsewhere.

I have a T30 type 2366-86U that I believe has a bad system board (plug in the new charger and the only thing that lights up is the battery indicator- plus I can smell the plastic getting hot- pretty sure its the board) The tag says 236-86U. I can get a replacement real cheap off one of those bid sites but its a 2366-FBU. How interchangeable are the boards? I've been through the KB and read the HMM but there isn't any information about the antiques I'm working with! Anyone know if the two boards (or any other 2366 model) will fit in the machine? Thanks

Answer:T30 system board replacement

They should be entirely interchangeable - a quick search on the support-site shows that all the entries for both computers (both the 86U and the FBU) links to the exact same documents - so I think there's very little difference in these two, apart from the manufacturing date.I might be wrong, of course, but I don't think I am.

I wanted to make a new thread, not only thanking Tuus, but to let others know that it is possible to get a fix for dead or dying T61s. There are other threads on this but I'd like to share my experience. I got my T61p about 4 years ago and it had worked like a charm, with only a minor battery issue, for all those years. A few months ago (while abroad in the UK) it just decided to quit on me. The bios beeps on booting said it was a video chip issue, and that's exactly what was up. Thankfully my HD wasn't affected and I waited until I was home to figure out what to do. After loads of searching on the issue (which is prevalent) I saw posts on here thanking Tuus and about the fix. So I sent him a message which he quickly replied to. He explained that these boards (prior to 08/08) have a known faulty nvidia chip and they usually kick it earlier than mine did. I have started PC gaming more in the few months before it died so I assume it was a heat issue, which I now keep an eye on using TPfancontrol. Through contacting Tuus I got my hands on an 08/08 system board with the entire bottom case along with it. It was a lengthy process to take apart my old machine and put the new bottom on, but if you follow the manual on Lenovo's site for your system, it's a piece of cake. Just set aside an hour or two and you'll be fine. The best advice I can give to stay organized with it all is to print the pages you need from the manual, and then tape the parts/screws to the corresponding ... Read more

I need to find a replacement Motherboard which I can use a AMD Duron 1.6GHz 266FSB, PC2700 DDR 333MHZ, for WinXP, with intergrated Audio & Video.I have to return the Asus A7V8X-MX SE board due to a widely known fault with this M/board.The motherboard I need to get must come from click here or click hereSo can someone help me in a search for a motherboard which has built in VGA and takes a Duron with PC2700 DDR memory please.

Answer:Replacement M/board help for AMD platform.

I'm a bit puzzled as to why you would want a board with built in VGA, you can buy a graphics card for about £15, not a great one certainly but more than adequate when compared to a lot of the onboard VGA. Anyway have a look atclick herethis is PC index it will give you quite a few companies including Aria and Microdirect although it doesn't give you all their motherbaords but its a place to start. If you go back to the PC index home page you can specify which companies stuff you want to look at if you wish. You want to find a motherboard with vga in the description.

unplugged elect cord of phone from voltage surge protection, computer went off but light stayed on.  I've been told it was my mother board,  This machine has stuff I need and I  would like very much to fix it.  Does anyone know where I can get this done?

Answer:MOTHER BOARD REPLACEMENT

A local computer repair shop is the best bet, but for a computer that old, it will probably cost more than it is worth.  Best option is to salvage the data from the hard drive onto a working PC.  Easiest way to do that is to remove the hard drive from the old Pavilion A6400 and connect it to a working PC.  If it is just to retrieve the data, an adapter similar to this will work nicelyhttps://www.amazon.com/AGPtek-Drive-Adapter-Converter-External/dp/B00BIE996S/ref=pd_sim_147_2?_encod...

Do I have to disable on board graphics before installing PCI graphics card and, if so, how do I do this ? Presumably using BIOS settings which will frighten the life out of me !!!

Answer:On board graphics replacement.

It may well be that you do not have to disable the onboard graphics just install the new card and see that it is installed. If so shut down and move the cable from the onboard graphics to the pci card.If the system objects then Reboot and press the key listed to go into the bios it is often delete or F1. just enter each page in turn until you see the onboard graphics entry then press usually page up/page down to change the entry it will probably say enable/disable. Press esc to shut each page and then click on save changes and exit.

I have an old Gateway P5-133 computer with an Evergreen MX-Pro 200 cpu upgrade on an American Megatrends system board.
I was in the process of upgrading it with a larger hard drive, WinME, a couple of USB ports, potentially more RAM etc. and was experiencing intermittent episodes of it not booting up. My new machine's monitor, which I used while working on this old POS, was saying there is no video signal coming from the old computer. A new video adapter produced the same message, so I am assuming the system board croaked. It did boot fine following the installation of the new HD and ME.
What would be a suitable replacement if you would be so kind as to enlighten me? I can return the PCI Video and USB adapters but not the Maxtor 80GB Ultra ATA/133 drive and ME.

Doug

Answer:Replacement System Board

GoofyGimp

Welcome to TSG! As far as a replacement board, you are probably wasting your time. My suggestion would be to keep the video you bought, the hard drive and the floppy. The rest is very outdated. Your board is a socket 5 board with no real replacement out there. The case and power supply will be of no use on a newer board (probably an AT form factor). The evergreen chip will only fit a socket 5 board and you can go much much faster with a low end $30 duron processor. The memory is probably 70ns dram and will not be able to be used in a newer board. Not really much you can save. Your choices are to look at used computer shops for an old socket 5 board or to shell out a couple of bucks for a bare bones system.

Last night I tried to replace the mother board on my Dell Inspiron 5000e laptop. I bought the replacement part from an Ebay store, and it is still under warranty (90 days). After taking apart my entire laptop and putting the whole thing back together--a job that took my friend and I three hours--we plugged it in for the moment of truth. The battery light came on, so far so good. Then we hit the power button and...nothing happened. Well almost nothing. The machine appeared to turn on. All three lights on the the bottom of the LCD went on, but that's it. The fan didn't start, the monitor didn't start. The hard drive light was on but didn't appear to be reading at all. (i.e. no blinking or noise.) I'm quite perplexed. Everything appeared to go back together perfectly with the possible exception of the diskette drive cable clip, which we weren't exactly sure whether to put back in over, under, or through the disk drive data cable. We eventually put it through. For instructions and pictures of the process, check out link:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/pblan/removing.htm

Everything else seemed to go back together seemlessly. We were very careful with screws and put all the right sizes back into their correct places. What could be causing this? Have I received a defective part? Are there any other explanations? I suppose a possible explanation is that the processor and/or video board are not quite connected correctly, but they seemed t... I am replacing my hard drive for the first time and I need to know how to tranfer my data from the old to the new. I only have room for one harddrive in this machine.

Answer:Harddrive replacement

What make/model do you have? You have only one 5 1/2 bay and one 3 1/2 bay I take it? Or are they taken? If they are you will want to temperarily take something out, like maybe the cdrom... you won't be needing that transfering data. If you only have ONE bay of any kind, then you can hook up the old drive to your IDE and lay the drive somewhere, but I wouldn't recomend it, especially if your computer is on carpet. You will need to install the new drive as the master on the primary IDE and the old drive as the slave on the primary IDE. Jumper the drives accordingly (the manual will say how and give the exact jumper settings for your drive). Then turn on your computer and you might want to go into your bios first to make sure the drive set up properly. (as in communicating with the computer) You do this by pressing del or F10 (or whatever... it varies bios to bios). If there are drives in both spots (primary master and slave IDE) then you are good to go. Insert the disk with the imaging software provided by the manufacture of your drive and exit your BIOS. From there, you just follw the directions on the screen, and all you need to do is sit back and push a few buttons every now and then. The software will load and ask somequestions, such as if you want FAT32. If you are using Windows 9x, Xp and all those, choose that one. Windows NT should be NTFS. ect, ect... every thing is explained on screen if you are unsure. You then decide on partitions and image the old drive ... Read more

[Problem Description]
PC won't boot. Power (when connected to everything) only powers up motherboard and any cards attached to it. IDE drives show no sign of life.
However, if you disconnect IDE cables from the motherboard the IDE drives come to life.
If you disconnect power from the motherboard, and hotwire the motherboard power plug, the IDE drives will power up.

Tried motherboard with 3 different power supplies, same problem with all of them. Can't check CPU as don't have any other boards. Memory is fine, or appears to be as changing them made no difference.

Tried the board without any PCI (except agp graphics) cards plugged in, still had the same problem.

Not sure what else to do.

I moved to London from Melbourne Australia and had to get my PC shipped over. I would have taken it on board as hand luggage, but i wasn't allowed, so I had to have it freighted over as excess baggage on another flight.
It had plenty of padding so I thought it would be fine. It looks as though everything was fine except for what appears to be one largish dimple in the cardboard where it looks like it hit something. So there is a possibility of damage.

Any ideas anyone? I probably should have posted this under didou... Read more

I have an x61 tablet. It is a few years old, no warranty. It is a 7767 59U model. Last week I opened the case, it woke up from sleep for about two seconds, then the blue screen of death appeared. Now when I try to start it, I get four series of four beeps. This code equates to "System Board (Security Chip)". The computer stays powered on and the fan runs until I unplug it and take out the battery. I really like the x61, and do not want to spend the money for a new one. I'm looking for an 'economy' fix. I understand that the security chip is on the mother board, and that the error code can be somewhat ambiguous. I did strip down the computer and look for loose components, but found none. It seems that the best solution for me would be to get a used motherboard and install it. Does anybody know of a better solution, or additional diagnosis I could do? The system won't start up at all so the software diagnostics are not an option. What are the odds that another system board would fix it? Then, my next question would be what options do I have in replacing the mother board. There are many available on ebay, but not a 7767 59U. How far from the original can I stray. I'd love to upgrade it to a faster model. Are all the 7500 series boards interchangeable? I have to replace the system board on my R51 type 2883.  It was previously replaced professionally and the service receipt indicated p/n 39T5510 was used.  The manual on the Lenovo website indicates the FRU P/N is 93P4201.  I am hoping to use a system board I found online, p/n 27K9925 (this site also references p/n 93P4201).  Although I have been searching online for details of compatibility or part number cross referencing, I have had very little luck nailing down whether these are all different part numbers for the same part.  I am ultimately trying to determine if 27K9925 will work for my machine.  Any confirmation or additional information someone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

I think it is the same. As far as I know Satellite M70 was offered with two hardware configurations:

Your notebook must be identical with PSM70E so I?m 99,9% sure it is the same mainboard so you can use it.

I looked in the Hardware Maintanance Manual here: HMM and looked at the part list here: System Service PartsBut now I can find a lot of replacement boards with a FRU number which is listed in neither list. I.e.: 63Y1483Is there a more current FRU list? Where can I get information about this FRUs? Thanks for your help.

Answer:T410 System Board replacement

There is no good list available. It is integrated graphics. Most people don't use AMT or TPM so for most, these don't matter, but I believe (no guarantee) that 63Y1483 has both, so it would work in any T410 with intel graphics.

My original setup included an onboard videocard which copes fine with XP cannot cope with Windows 7 - apart from at the lowest resolution. I am not a gamer but would like advice on upgrading my video card. If I install a new card will I need to disable the old onboard card? If so how do I do this. What type of new card would be suitable foe Windows 7 - bearing in mind that I'm not a gamer, but enjoy watching videos, jpeg files etc. Any other issues I should be aware of? Thanks for any advice!

I noticed from the following link that the HP Envy 27 All-in-one (2016) has the NVIDIA GTX 950M GPU mounted on a removable board, rather than soldered permanently onto the motherboard: http://h22235.www2.hp.com/hpinfo/globalcitizenship/environment/productdata/Countries/_MultiCountry/d... Is it possible to replace the NVIDIA GTX 950M GPU board with a newer GPU, like the NVIDIA GTX 1050?

I have an e7450 that has had what I believe to be a system board failure. It is out of warranty so I am looking at replacing the system board myself. The part number is CN-0Y15C1-12963-54I-  A0EF  REV A00.
I believe the original unit has an i5-5300U. Most of the replacement boards I'm finding online have an i7-5600U.
Will there be an issue using the different processor if the board is still the same?

I'd like to upgrade my laptop to a motherboard with a dedicated graphics card. This is not my first time replacing boards; I've already replaced the harddrive and P6100 CPU with an i7. I'd like to get something with decent graphics processing power. What are my options?

Hello,

I have a 1 year old Dell laptop Inspiron 1300. Very recently (a week ago), it wouldn't start up -- it just gets stuck at the Windows loading screen. Holding down the power button to restart it would allow me to do a "startup repair" but that doesn't fix it.

I found a few relevant posts on Tech Support Guy, so I followed the instructions provided. Basically, I put in my Dell CD and run the Command Prompt and typed in
chkdsk /r C:Click to expand...

The solution worked and it allowed Windows to load up past the login screen. However, my computer would freeze -- mouse doesn't move, the display seems to have frozen -- at random times. Sometimes, it freezes 2 minutes after I login. Sometimes, it goes on for 8 hours without freezing.

What I noticed today is that right before my laptop freezes, the computer would click a few times then be silent. I was probably unable to hear the ticking because I am used to having a cooler beneath the laptop. I tried running chkdsk /r C: again, but this time, I have rows and rows of file record ######## segment is unreadable.

I am guessing that Dell gave me a very lame hard drive. If it is indeed a hard drive failure, would the aforementioned problems be results or symptoms of a failing hard drive? I would really appreciate a second opinion before I go out and buy a new hard drive. Is there any other way to check / diagnose the problem?

Thanks!

The smaller white one with 4 connectors is called a Molex plug...it supplies the power to hard drives, CD Rom drives etc.The bottom example is an IDE cable...basically carries the data from the devices mentioned above to the Motherboard for processing.

My T440P Thinkpad fell on the floor and damaged my HDD, I have been able to extract my personal data (taking out HDD and just copying individual folders to my desktop), but this disk seems to be beyond repair, it cant be used for recovery. I am considering buying a SSD and using the Windows 8.1 Recovery Media disks from Lenovo which came with the laptop, question is whether this will actually work. Since Windows was preinstalled on the HDD, i wonder whether the disks have suff. information to install Windows and drivers onto the SSD from scratch. What are my other options?

Hello! I have a lenovo X61T which recently had a system board die, After a repair by a local warranty service shop (CompuCom), we found that the Wireless (and fingerprint scanner..) were not working. It seems as though the LED for my bluetooth on the monitor comes on and works fine, i can power cycle that from the FN-F5 combo, but whenever i attempt to power on the Wifi, it does not come on. I keep pressing power on, and it never responds. I can not verify the fingerprint sensor is working, but i was able to power up, scan and connect to wifi networks from this card without any problem from my Ubuntu install on a seperate volume which had no issues with the new system board. So the wifi card is working in linux, so that leads me to think that it is vista (32-bit business) that is having the problem here is what i have done: Uninstalled and reinstaled the drivers (did not delete the driver software, should i try that?)Ran a system update (found that the new system board bios needed an update, but otherwise i keep my system up to date, checking monthly at least for new updates)Deactivated the TPM (Client Security Solution) completely (Next maybe i need to reset that?) I don't know what could be causing the issue, I did attempt to configure an Access Connection profile and specify the wireless network and such, but i get an error saying that the wireless radio is powered off and press repair to fix the issue, this does not work I did log t... Hi, Recently, about a week ago, i have started to experience a BSOD on my Ideapad y470p. I have contacted support through phone and they have directed me to go to lenevo service centre to have my laptop checked up. It turns out that i would have to replace my whole graphics card and my mother board. I was told that my warranty will not cover the cost of the replacement and i was extremely dissapointed. The replace the drivers i was given a rough estimate to S$500.  I am here today to request for help to replace my drivers. I am a student from Ngee Ann Polytechnic and my final year exams are in a few months. I am in an engineering course and i really need my graphics card to be fixed so that i can use my laptop to prepare for my exams. I still have my warranty and i really wish that you guys are able to waiver the cost of fixing my laptop so that i am able to do my assignments and prepare for my exams. I beg of you to help me, so that i can do my parents proud. Please help! Thanks,Shaun.

Hello, I recently bought a faulty Acer S3-391, that I wanted to fix. The problem was with the iSSD board, as soon as you turned the PC on, the board started overheating, one of the chips was faulty, from measuring the heat, I guess it was either power regulating chip, or the ssd controller chip, the device turned off after about 30-60 seconds after that. Since the price of this board is aproximatelly as high as an entire functional laptop, I dediced not to buy this one, but the similiar one, that had a mSATA slot and integrated wifi, otherwise it looked the same, connectors were also the same and it fitted the notebook nicely, everything went smooth, but I encountered a problem when I turned on the laptop. the battery wasnt charging. I measured the voltages on the battery and of the three cells, each had 0.8V, which means about 2.4V together, missing 8V for total 11.1V as the battery specs say so.I left it recharge over 24hours, but nothing happened, any ideas? Thanks

Answer:Acer Aspire S3-391 iSSD board replacement

Was it charging before you replaced the "iSSD board"? If it was, then the board is the problem.Maybe the "wrong" board is causing something to get crossed or shorted.

I replaced a N21 board last week because the headphone jack was dead. Usually I replace the board and run the RMA shim to update the serial numbers and run the tests. This particular instance the motherboard ignored the RMA shim and booted right into ChromeOS. I hit ESC REFRESH POWER to powerwash the thing and force it to boot from the RMA shim. No luck. It just tells me I'm not in verified mode - reboots - and tells me developer mode has been disabled. If I try to power wash it will not register that I hit CTRL+D (even with usb keyboard). Any suggestions?

After switching out the boards I the drive in a computer as a slave; however, the computer didn't recgonize it. Any suggestions??

B/T/W- I now have an external drive which automatically copies data and files from y computer.
Thank you in advance.
