Acer 5050 Touchpad/Keyboard Stop Working

Question: Acer 5050 Touchpad/Keyboard Stop Working

Hello. I am hoping that someone will have a solution to some weirdnesses going on with my Acer 5050. It came with Vista but I reformatted the hard drive and installed XP. Everything had been going smoothly until I decided to download Service Pack 3. While Service Pack 3 was downloading my network hiccuped or something and Service Pack 3 was aborted mid download. After that happened the computer was a complete mess, so I reformatted the hard drive and re-installed XP. I am now at the point of downloading all MS XP updates, virus protection, anti-spyware etc.

The problem I seem to be having is sometimes after a reboot the touchpad and keyboard will not work. An external wireless mouse will though. I find if I do a reboot both the touchpad and the keyboard will come back to life but often when the touchpad and keyboard will not work the computer will not reboot, I must pull out the battery to get the silly machine to reboot.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Brenda

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

here's two drivers i found, but im not quite sure which one is the right one, you should try the newest one first and see if it works, if it doesnt then try the older one.

Compaq V6000 Vista Home, (32 bit) service pack 2. Computer about four years old. Motherboard replaced about four months ago because of graphic chips issue.

After a period of time / 30 min or so(?) (varies) the touchpad stops working. The blue power light continues to stay on, indicating the pad is still ?turned on? but the pad and buttons don't function. When the touchpad goes into this state, the icon on the bottom toolbar disappears. I also loose all sound, although the speaker icon remains.

When in this state the touchpad blue power light stays on and pushing the touchpad power button has no affect. (it should turn it off and illuminate an orange light)

The touch pad will also go into this state if the computer goes into the hibernate or sleep mode. One interesting thing, when in sleep or hibernate mode, you can awaken the computer by touching the touchpad surface, indicating to me that the pad is working until the computer comes ?awake.? After it wakes up, the blue blight is still on but the touchpad is inoperable.

If the touchpad is working, you can enter the sleep mode, return and the touchpad will continue to function normally.

To restore the touchpad and sound, the computer must be restarted. After that, everything works fine for a while. (time varies)

I can plug in a USB mouse to get around this issue.

I have done extensive research on Google. This issue has been happening at least since 2009. (although I didn't run across the sound issue mentioned) ... Read more

This has happened a lot since my upgrade to Windows 10, and it's really starting to get on my nerves. Seemingly randomly, my keyboard will stop responding to what I type, and my touchpad completely stops as well (no, I did not accidentally click to disable it). These problems will never resolve themselves on their own, but as soon as I reset the computer everything works again - to me, that sounded like a driver crash, but nope! I checked the driver menu and it told me everything was running just fine. What's even more strange is that I have the backlight keyboard enabled so that when I type, it lights up. And strangely, the keys still light up when I press them, so I know it's registering my typing SOME how.

You would also think that this would be a software problem since it fixes immediately upon reset, but I've noticed that this issue seems to crop up a lot right after I have moved my computer... I'm lost and I've scoured the internet for clues, but no one else seems to have this problem. Please help!

In order to possibly do testing on what is causing this (via suggestions hopefully, I've tried everything I can think of) I am purposely not resetting my computer (thankfully this is a touch screen, but this on-screen keyboard typing is obnoxious). Currently, both keyboard and touchpad don't work, but a usb mouse I use does (the computer is also set so that using the usb mouse does not disable the touchpad).

A couple weeks ago while using my laptop, the keyboard and mouse pad suddenly froze up/lost power. No response to usb ports or cd drive. The screen stayed on, fan, power, even wifi connection stayed on, but couldn't get anything moving. The power button didn't respond so I had to unplug power and remove battery to shut it down. Worked fine after I restarted it.

Now, the same thing just happened again, on a DIFFERENT laptop with a different OS, browser, everything.

WTH?

Thanks

Hi Mpchell,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that the Touchpad and Keyboard is not working as expected even after performing all the possible troubleshooting steps. Hence, the only available option to check if the issue is hardware related is by performing OSRI (Operating System Re-Install) using OKR (One Key Recovery).

NOTE: Please backup the data in the computer before performing OSRI, as the data will be completely erased.

If the issue persists, I would strongly suggest you to contact our Technical Support for further Assistance to get the details of the nearest Authorized Service Center to get the issue analyzed.

I am working on an Acer Aspire 5050. When I first saw it, you had to strike the keyboard keys with force and repeatedly to get it to type a letter. On average, for every 10 strikes, it would type 4 strokes. I have researched this and have found no answers, just a lot of speculation and "try a restore or reformat", which is not an option for this owner. I tried disabling the Launch Manager, which controls the keyboard, but it made no difference after it reinstalled. I did see a post about the ACPI possibly being an issue. Since I could not find a way to disable it, and I did not want to risk having no battery management and who knows what other side effects, I decided to try the unit without the battery installed. I shut down the computer, removed the battery and rebooted the computer. Guess what - no more keyboard issue!! However, as soon as I put the battery back in, the keyboard stopped working properly again! The battery still seems to hold a good charge, lasting 1.5 hours according to the owner.
Does anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks!

Answer:Acer-E1 572G Touchpad & Keyboard not working!

Hi,
Welcome to the forums, go to control panel, uninstall "Launch Manager" in Programs, download from here and re-install it:
Download Drivers and Manuals | Acer Official Site
Try different drivers for synaptics, for example, Acer Aspire E1-572 Synaptics Touchpad Driver 17.0.6.13 for Windows 8.1 64-bit Drivers download - Synaptics Software Update
EDIT:
If you find ETD Ware in Programs, right click and uninstall it, that's your Elantech but I couldn't see it in your Device manager.

If you have yellow exclamation marks in device manager you should install all missing drivers.

Last but not least don?t forget to install all available Windows 7 updates that you can get thorugh Windows Update.

Sorry but this is all what I can say at the moment?

Hi,
My neighbours computer is an Acer Aspire 6920G that is 9 months old, it has just come back from the store she brought it at and still has the same issue.
It runs Vista Home Premium, which I am not familiar with.
The machine boots fine, but does not recognise the keyboard, touchpad, and now has no sound drivers or options.
The machine was not sold with a Vista disc, just a generic recovery disc that does not allow me to use the SFC /scannow or repair console.
I am familiar with XP to intermediate, but never used Vista before.

Can anyone please help

HELLO! this is my 2nd post for the day, and as promised i said if i'd encountered another problem i'd be back..SO.. i recently acquired an acer aspire 5050 laptop that was riddled with viruses and i couldn't get it to boot in any way, its a vista capable laptop, but came with windows XP installed on it.after fighting with the thing for 5 days, i finally managed to format the hard drive and upgrade it to windows vista home premium. after installing and coming to the first set up processes where you select english and the keyboard type, i noticed that the touchpad and keyboard are not working at all.. so i plugged in a usb mouse, and it worked, and managed to get past the username input and all that with an on screen keyboard..SO Nooooww.. all i'm trying to figure out is how to get the keyboard and touchpad to register and work.i checked the drivers and diagnostics of both and it says that they have the newest drivers and that they are in working order, and well. derr derr derr, no they are not.i can not restore to previous time, i don't have a restore cd either.. just a cleaned out laptop with windows vista home premium.any suggestions please? ~ Nefie

My dad got a Thinkpad Yoga 14 about a month ago and he usually uses his laptop at a 90 degree angle in bed. So when he is on his side, the laptop is on it's side as well. When he does that with the Thinkpad Yoga, the touchpad and the keyboard are disabled and he cannot use the laptop like he wants to. I think because it's a setting to not accidentally touch the keyboard or mouse when using it in tablet mode.I cannot find any setting on how to stop Windows from disabling the touchpad and keyboard on rotate. I've turned off auto-rotate but can't see anything else. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

If the traditional BIOS update is not available on the download page the only way to get it is to contact nearest authorized service provider. They have all versions.

My friends acer laptop has a freeze recently in a Pes6 game we turned it off and when we turned it on we watch everything as a normal windows xp startup when we came to the welcome screen we realized that touchpad and keyboard are not working. We think Fn+F? but the real problem is keyboard is not working at all. We can't access to bios with F2 at the very first startup. We tried to plug in a usb mouse but no electricity activity can be seen in it too. USB's not working either. But there are no errors and windows seems to start without any problem. Have a suggestion?

Answer:Acer 5101 keyboard usb and touchpad are dead

Hook-up and PS/2 keyboard and mouse to your laptop if you have that hookup or use USB Keyboard and mouse. You need to get into the BIOS and see if the keyboard and mouse is enabled.

Also by doing it this way you can also see under XP what happen. Try removing the battery from the laptop and try it again...

My mom has a Acer 5102. The touchpad and keyboard don't work on the laptop. I tried plugging in a mouse to the USB and that didn't work either. All I want to do is back up my files to an external hard drive but I can't do it without a keyboard or the touchpad. I tried doing FN + F7, and FN + F6, and even FN + F7 + ALT. I heard those key combinations work, but it didn't in my case. Also, she said at first the OS wouldn't boot for a couple days, but now it boots but the keyboard and touchpad doesn't work. Does anyone know what the problem could be?wee

Answer:ACER Keyboard and touchpad doesn't work

Try http://www.laptoprepair101.com for a good desciption on how to disassemble a laptop.Be VERY careful when disassembling. They are fragile and the connections are short. The ribbon cable under the keyboard might be the problem although the USB connections are integrated on the motherboard and with your earlier problems might point to that as the cause.

Keyboard and mouse stop working

Hi, I'm having some major problems with my Dell Dimension 8400 which runs on Windows XP.
It all started with some files found and replaced during chkdsk.
My PC was working fine yesterday, but today when I turned it on the problem started.
At first, everything is okay. Then, after the initial Windows page the screen goes black and a gray bar appears at the bottom. At this point, the keyboard and mouse shut off (lights go off) and stop working. Once the gray bar has finished loading (1-2 seconds), windows continues to start as usual. The only problem is when I get to the log in screen (where I have multiple user accounts) I cannot choose one to log on with because the keyboard and mouse do not work. I have tried unplugging them and putting them in the USB slot instead but to no avail. I cannot run safemode or anything because the same login screen comes up.
I tried hitting F12 initially and ran hard drive diagnostics which gave me the alarming result:
"Drive 0: ST3160023AS - FAIL - Return Code 7
Drive 2: No device"
Drive 4...my CD drive...diagnostics not supported
Drive 5...my DVD drive...diagnostics not supported

Any Suggestions? Please help!

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Keyboard and mouse stop working AND STOP 0X0000007B

Please follow the steps here for the Stop 0x0000007B error: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324103

As you will note, one cause can be a boot sector virus.

Return Code 7 can indicate hard drive failure. Drive 0 is the hard drive.

As for CHKDSK replacing files and causing this problem, it's not likely. Even IF you check both options- fix file system errors and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, it didn't 'cause' the problem, it just made it more evident.

Backup everything you do not want to lose and consider replacing the hard drive.

Answer:my touchpad has stop working

I had the same problem happen to me just yesterday. I ran windows update and it showed optional updates to install. One of them was the "Intel Serial IO I2C ES Controller Driver", which I clicked to update. It installed and required a reboot. Upon reboot, I noticed that the mouse cursor was gone during login, and after that the touchpad was totally unresponsive. I tried to disable/enable the touchpad using FN+F7, but that didn't work. Fortunately I had a regular USB mouse I plugged in, which worked. Opening the Control Panel, Device Manager, it showed the System devices/I2C Controller with a yellow triangle next to it (showing that the driver failed to run). I had selected to rollback the driver to the prior version, and the touchpad started to work immediately. I suspect you may be having the same problem. To Fix: 1. Open Control Panel.2. Select and open Device Manager.3. Locate I2C Controller within System Devices.4. Double click on I2C Controller.5. Select Driver tab and click on Roll Back Driver button.6. Your touchpad should start working again.7. Close Device Manager.8. Close Control Panel. I'd like to see Acer's response to this issue and their suggestion since I suspect that in the following days there will be a fairly large percentage of Acer laptop users running into the same issue.

I've been trying to fix this Acer Aspire 5100 laptop for about a year, on and off. Figured I'd ask here before I pull the hard drive and brick it.

Laptop boots up fine and everything works for anywhere from two seconds to five minutes, give or take. Then the touchpad, keyboard and all ports (usb, etc) stop working. The amount of time that they work varies, so I have a feeling this is a heat issue. The OS and any open programs continue to work, though. I can't bypass with a mouse since usb ports don't work. However, I can put it into sleep mode by pressing the Power button, so at least that is working. When I put it into sleep, wait a few minutes, and power it back on the touchpad/keyboard/ports work again but then shut down again after a variable amount of time. Again, this leads me to believe that this is a heating issue (the devices work until the heat causes them to disconnect.)

What I've tried so far:

Fn/F7 (touchpad on/off toggle)
New thermal paste on CPU
Removed battery and powered with only the adaper (a common battery-related problem with this model)
Took it apart, tried to spot any weakened solder points

I'm sort of leaning towards the fact that this issue might be a costly fix so I'm probably going to end up bricking it and getting a netbook. I would like to try anything that might keep it alive, though.

Thank you!

I have an Acer 5050 laptop that crashed and keeps restarting. I tried the repair prompt and it tells me there is no operating system on the pc. I tried to system restore and same thing ( no restore points) I cant boot in safe mode or anything. I ran the repair again and when prompted to load drivers I was able to select different drives on the pc (C, D, X) I can look in the D and X drive but not the C, I restarted and selected boot with command prompt and was able to see the directories in the other drives but the C drive comes up as unreadable and corrupt volume. Does this mean the hard drive is done for or is there a way to fix it?

Just ruled out malware in other section of this forum. Laptop's integrated keyboard suffers intermittent lock-ups for no apparent reason (sometimes works, sometimes doesn't, right now, doesn't). Touchpad seems deactivated (tried FN + F7 in case of accidental disable, but that's not the case), every option related to touchpad are grayed out in 'mouse' menu (config panel). Before malware check-up,tried system restore to last week, all problems were still there, so I reverted back. I have to use visual keyboard to type. Have to work with external mouse because touchpad doesn't work. Tried reinstalling touchpad drivers from Acer website, and didn't work. Computer worked perfect a few days ago.

Answer:Acer aspire 5749-6823 keyboard intermittent, touchpad a.w.o.l.

Sounds like you may have some system files corrupt. This can occur after a lot of spyware. Some times just removing it dose not correct what it has already messed up. Your best maybe to back up your personal stuff. Then do a factory reinstall.

Got a user who has a Acer 5100-3583 notebook, the keyboard and touchpad are unresponsive after multiple reboots and standard trouble shooting yield no results.? The unit is only 14 months old and out of warranty.
Any clues?

It will read from DVD-ROM drive as it reads a DVD movie when inserted.
No USB devices such as keyboard and mouse work either.

Thanks
Greg

Answer:Acer 5100-3583 notebook keyboard & touchpad frozen..?

- in windows, press Fn+F7 (or the combination you have to activate/deactivate touchpad
- In the bios (press F2 when it appears the ACER screen when booting), be sure that the Tpad is enabled.
Purchase a usb mouse and keyboard and by pass the problem.
Restore to an earlier date to make sure the configuration wasn't dumped somewhere along the line.
Reformat the system.
Check with Acer Site under troubleshooting to see if there are any other solutions.
Last resort and if your capable open casing to check for loose connections. ( It does appear Acer has problems with touchpads frequently)
Luck to you and this is about all the thoughts I came up with right now. Let us know...Jazz

Yesterday, when i installed the Kaspersky on my Compaq CQ40-619TU. It wasn't success, and then i don't know what happened my notebook restarted and the touchpad and usb mouse also just simply stop working.

When i check on the driver, it's still saying "This device is working properly".

PLS help me solve this problem.

Answer:touchpad and mouse stop working on my win7

Welcome!

Rest assured, if anyone posts in this thread, it will be to help you.

I suggest a system restore to get to a point before the troubles.

Then try installing Kaspersky again. If the problem happens again, do another system restore, and install Microsoft Security Essentials instead.

I can't tell if it's because I did something with "tapping" (I thought I'd turned all that junk off) or accidentally hit the middle top button (what is that for anyway?) but it just stops working, I've learned to close the lid and open it again and the left-click is live again (the right-click doesn't have this problem). Think I have the latest drivers, I've messed around with several different downloads to try to get this thing to work better, it's a total POS I would return the whole thing because of it but it's past 21 days and I'm not sure what machine I would get to replace it.

Unfortunately, the trackpad and touchpad of my T460p stop working intermittently. The problem seems to occur after the laptop is going into hibernation. When it boots up afterwards, neither the trackpad nor the touchpad or the mouse buttons work, and the device manager shows the Synaptics device having a hardware issue. The problem persists when rebooting the system and even when using a different operation system (e.g. Ubuntu via a Live USB). I tried upgrading the Synaptics drivers (v19.0.19.1), which does not solve the problem though. I also tried different driver versions (e.g. the ones offered on the Lenovo site), without success. I encountered this problem both on Windows 10 Home & Windows 10 Enterprise Edition, as well as various Linux flavors (Ubuntu, Fedora). The only workaround that I found is to shut down the laptop, remove the battery and reboot it afterwards, which seems to reset the faulty state the touchpad is in. I strongly suspect that this is a problem with the firmware of either the mainboard or the Synpatics device itself, which puts it into an invalid state when going into hibernation. For now, I disabled hibernation mode, which avoids the problem but is not ideal of course. Did someone else run into this problem? Any ideas how to permanently fix this? I'm very happy with the T460p otherwise but this problem just drives me crazy as it's impossible to use a laptop without touchpad/trackpad when traveling.

I have a Thinkpad T440S and have a problem that many have reported. The trackpoint and touchpad initially work upon bootup but then stop working after a few minutes.I believe I've tried everything (uninstall/reinstall drivers, replace keyboard, replace hard drive and do a complete reinstall of all software, update everything, etc etc etc). Nothing works and the only reason I can still use my computer is that a wireless mouse will work. It's time to get a new computer. I've bought Thinkpads for more than a decade but I still see this problem being reported for the T470 so Lenovo can't or won't bother to fix this. Any suggestions for a different brand and model? I do like the trackpoint so does that mean Dell is my only alternative?

Certain keys on my Acer's V7 482PG's keyboard stopped working(R,T,F,G,V).  Not sure if Windows 10 is the issue since I've only been using an external keyboard (which works fine) on my laptop since I got Windows 10.  Already tried updating the ELAN & Synaptics drivers.  Also tried going to Device Manager, uninstalling drives shown under keyboard and restarting the computer.  Issue persists.  Keyboard used to work fine with Windows 8 as far as I can remember.

Answer:Certain keys on my Acer's V7 482PG's keyboard stop...

So i am to get from your Post that your Keys R, T, F, G and V don't work at all? Or do they work but giving wrong keys? If they are not working I would try and get some Compressed air and see if maybe somehting is under the keys....  If that isn't the issue I would then take your system apart, take the ribbion cable out then re attatch it and try the keyboard again. IF they work good. If not then I would then think you would need to get a replacement.... Hope this helps someJames

I used to run XP before switching over and have never ran vista. The XP drivers for this device worked great from the Acer website. I have downloaded the Vista drivers now and tried them both in regular mode and then after again in compatibility mode (Vista SP1). This did not work. It is recognizing my card reader but the driver's or something is stopping it from working. When I load in an SD card the sound is not made and no drive appears. Am I missing something? I have google'd and gotten all my other devices to work flawlessly. This is the last one and I will have a working Windows 7 machine. Please help

Edit: I have found out a manual for my lapop and it shows the device as "ENE CB714". Scouring google for drivers but haven't seen a thing yet.

Answer:ENE Card Reader on Acer Aspire 5050

Insert the card. Go to Explorer.

Right click the drive.

Open as Portable Device

A new window appears.

Can you read/use the disk?

Also, insert a different card to rule out a faulty card.

I have an older system, an Acer Aspire 5050-5430, which was sitting there gathering dust, so I decided to install Windows 10 on it to give it some use. Unfortunately, it seems that Acer has taken down its Windows Vista x64 drivers which were the last supported drivers it carried. Do you know of anywhere else where I can find the last 64 bit drivers so that I can get my hardware optimally functional? I have been looking hard, but haven't really had any luck. The USB 2.0 ports are detected as 1.1's in Windows 10, and some other issues which could clearly be fixed with compatible drivers. I do hope you can help, thanks so much!

Answer:Win 10 x64 drivers for an Acer Aspire 5050-5430.

What's the exact SNID number and serial number on that Acer Aspire 5050-5430 laptop?

What's the exact Windows version on its Certificate-Of-Authenticity sticker?

Which country was it purchased?

---------------------------------------------------------------

It appears to have driver support only for Windows XP 32-bit and Windows Vista 32-bit.

I doubt if Windows 10 will install in it, but if it does, I doubt it will have drivers for all of its devices.

OKay im new to this but learn very fast, I have a ACER 5050 it has 1g of ram, a AMD Turion 64 x2 1.60 processor and 80gb hard drive it runs Vista Premium. now heres my problem my physical memory is 766 and according to the neat little side bar system monitor more often then not over 70% of my ram is being used when my comp is just idling, like my CPU usage will be 1 - 5% yeah my RAM is just being hammered so i take this a sign that i really need to upgrade now is there a specific type of ram i should purchase specific brand? I'm pretty sure i need DDR2 and im thinking im just going to add another gig. any help would be great thank you. Also is it hard to put in? im really good at building just about anything and am a wizard with my hands so i think i can manage getting it in there on my own.

Here's the problem:

My four year old Acer Aspire 5535-5050 notebook has been doing pretty good the last few weeks. Then, I decided to hook it up to my flat screen TV via VGA connection. It worked great for a few days, but after turning it off one night and removing the VGA cable, I found that I boot into a black screen (no BIOS, splash screen, activity lights, anything but the power button) the next day.

First thing I thought was the computer was trying to display to an external monitor. I hooked it back to the TV and still nothing. I looked around the forums and tried the following methods:

1) Remove all power sources, hold power button for 20-30 seconds, try to boot (Failed)
2) Re-seat the RAM (failed)
3) Re-seat the CMOS battery (failed)
4) Press Fn + f5 during boot cycle (failed)
5) Yell and rage at the machine (failed, but mildly therapeutic)

I am literally out of ideas on how to get this thing working again. When I turn it on, I can hear the optical drive, fan, and hard disk spinning like usual, but there are no lights showing activity besides the green power button. Help is very much needed at this point. Thank you to those who respond.

Answer:Acer Aspire 5535-5050 won't boot.

The first thing to try is remove one stick of RAM and try to boot, if not swap sticks and try again.

IAs I write this I am topping 97C it will go down to 88C for a few seconds then right backup I know this is way too high but dont know what else to do about it. As long as the laptop is running it stays above 80C. I have taken the back off and blown out the dust from inside the laptop, and bought a nice aluminum laptop cooling pad with fans that has helped some, but when ever i play certain games or burn a dvd it shoots way up in the high 90s or even higher no matter what i do. It has even shut down a few times, The fan used to be very loud but suddenly I dont hear it at all so I downloaded Speedfan to keep an eye on my temp and rpms but SpeenFan will not tell me if my fan is even running,. I would replace the fan myself(unless it needs soldered to the mobo) if I knew that is was not functioning properly. Is there a reliable utility that wil tell me if it is actually working at all, and also is there anything else i can do to keep it cool. I saw a fan online that attaches to the outside of the laptop vents to help with cooling is this hype or could this really help? Any other ideas or thoughts that might help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Answer:What other steps can I take to cool off my Acer Aspire 5050?

Unfortunately, some laptop computers just run hot. It could be faulty, or it could simply be inadequate cooling. It's obvious that a top temp of 97C is much too high, but there's only a limited number of things you can do with notebooks. One is to of course replace the fan, if possible, and use a cooling pad which you already have. If it were a more high-end laptop, I would recommend reapplying a thermal compound to the core of the CPU. It's hard to say whether you would be able to do that with your computer. I don't see an external fan helping too much with internal temps but it might be worth a shot depending on price.

Have you tried adjusting the fan speed using SpeedFan?

I have a Dell 7737 laptop and from time to time it develops a firmware glitch where random keys stop working for both BIOS Setup and Operating Systems. After such thing happens neither shutdown (Full shutdown / Fast Boot disabled) nor restart get the keyboard back to a normal state. At this point the only workarround is to disconnect the AC power cord and then either drain the battery or physically remove it.
This laptop's battery cover is not designed for daily removal and it is starting to get loose because of this BIOS bug.
I am running BIOS version A14 but this bug was present since I purchased the laptop with BIOS version A07. Sometimes I cannot even type my password because the random keys that stop working match those it uses.
Please Dell could you provide a BIOS hotfix for this annoying issue?

Hi, Im having a small issue with my L420... every now and then the mousepad wont work. The touchpad may give out, and the red trackpoint remain functional, or vice-versa, or both may go out. I find that changing the voume, or typing sometimes solves this issue. I do have an external mouse that i plug in when this happens, but i do not want this issue to get any worse.  This may be unrelated, and may need a new post, but sometimes when this happens, my keyboard gets REALLY messed up... Typing "X" for example will make a "/", and the keys i press type something completley random.. Letters typed, will show up as numbers, or dashes, etc. At this point, i just restart my laptop and it corrects itself... any help?

I just bought an Acer Aspire E15 laptop running windows 8.1 64 bit Feb 14, 2017. It took a while to get it to install updates. I looked up how to fix the "stuck at checking for updates forever" and I figured out how to get the updates working by manually installing a few updates using standalone update packages from Microsoft.com. I had to disable my internet and disable windows update with 'net stop wuauserv' in cmd. After installing them in the correct order based on the prerequisites section for the update that another forum mentioned, I ran 'net start wuauserv' and enabled my internet. It then, by itself, installed 221 updates and it took 10 hours. Now the touchpad on it has stopped working and is not listed in device manager. Please help.

I'm not sure where to ask but I have a problem.

My laptop (Acer Aspire 4750G) touchpad is not working. It is still usable, I can move the cursors with it. But the system seems telling me that I keep pressing the right button of the touchpad, so when I left click/tap the touchpad, it works as a right click instead. I disabled that by plugging in my USB mouse and right-clicking on the mouse. Well the problem comes again after I do that so I'm forced to use the USB mouse, which would be very annoying and time-eating if I have something to do quickly. Also, there's nothing stuck in there a the drivers are up-to-date.

Answer:Acer Aspire touchpad not working

I would make sure the touch pad did not some how get turned off. Go into the menu, if you're working with XP/ Vista it should be in the control panel under mouse. There should be a tab that has an option for the touchpad. It might open up a window, either way there will be something that gives you an option for enabling or disabling it. Make sure that it is enabled.

Try uninstalling it in Device Manager and then 'detect new hardware' or restart the machine to reinstall it. This is especially useful if there is a bad or corrupt driver that is not allowing the correct driver to properly install over it.You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I have tried Acer recovery to re install i believe and it still says in the device manager that the "Synaptics touchpad device is not working, not present, or does not have all drivers installed (Code 24)". And there is a yellow triangle next to the mouse in the device manager. which was so hard to find! I had to hit "view" at the top and click "show hidden icons". Why would the touchpad be hidden?? lol anyways...I hit the Ctrl key and it does the circle where the pointer should be. I have a touchscreen so where ever I touch that's where the circle is. No pointer though. Any Ideas?? It has been asking me to update to windows 8.1...if I try that would that help?? thank goodness this is a touchscreen or i wouldn't even be able to ask for help. Please let me know anything! thank you!

I bought an Acer Aspire E11 E3-112-C6YY laptop about 18 months ago and the touchpad has never been reliable. I did some early support with Acer however it didn't fix the problem and I eventually just gave up. I can see that lots of people have posted about this problem but the solutions are a few months old so am wondering if there are any newer fixes. I am not super-tech savvy so simple fixes would be great (if possible!)

refer you to Ace Firefly answer:- 'Hi, try to to use some air spray and check if letters are moving full range, if they still no work...keyboard can be replaced but you need to contact Acer support service, since the laptop needs to be disassembled.'

I got an Acer v5 575g laptop for christmas, everything was fine for the first about 5 hours, but all of a sudden the touchpad stopped working completely, I did fn + f7 (and all the other ones), I reinstalled the drivers, I factory reset, system restore and some more things. I don't know if the touchpad disconnected from the motherboard or something or its just faulty. I use a mouse, but its hard to use it on a couch or chair. Help would be appreciated.

I have an Acer aspire 5050. It shut off on boot up and sometimes at startup. I decided to reinstall win xp pro. Now it shuts off during installation at the installation countdown 35min (remaining to complete installation. If I restarts it, it will shut off at exactly “35min remaining to complete installation.”

It got really hot before I decided to do the reinstallation. The fan do not seem to be completely dead, 'cause I heard it on once or twice. It also froze a lot prior to attempting to reinstall xp pro. Also the device manager did show that the sm bus controller was not installed. I tried to find the controller online but couldn't.

System info: Acer aspire 5050, win xp pro, 160gb hd, 512 ddr, 2.00GHz ...Please help!

Hi everyone, a little while back the power pin of my Acer Aspire 5050 laptop came loose so it couldn't get power. I let it sit a while and just got around to ordering a replacement part. Now the laptop gets power but it turns off quickly. I've noticed that it turns off faster after consecutive attempts. (First time maybe 5 to 8 seconds then it just turns off a couple seconds after you try to start it.) The fan starting going hard before going off. I would have liked to experiment a little more and do more trials but I was afraid I might damage something. I have tried this with both the cable and the battery together and each separately. It doesn't make a difference. Thank for reading, any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.

I am having trouble installing a card reader driver on my Acer Aspire 5050.
The memory card reader is ENE CB714 Cardbus/MediaReader Controller. The ENE Technology website has no links or downloads for their drivers.

Here is what Microsoft Fix It came up with (screen shot below):

After clicking Extract Here, there are no 'instructions'. I cannot seem to 'unzip the files. There is also no 'install file' that shows up. I have followed the steps and they are simply not working.

I am trying to use my Sony CyberShot camera in my USB ports. I have gone to the Sony website and there was a driver available that would not install.

I have tried a lot of methods and cannot seem to get this working!

Anybody have any suggestions as to where/how I can download and install this driver?

Had a user today with an X300 say that his touchpad and touchpoint just 'stopped' working; plugging in a USB mouse allowed him to continue using the laptop, but both onboard devices were dead. We tried the FN + F8 toggle, which normally disables the touchpad; this time it said "UltraNav Driver Not Installed." I reinstalled the UltraNav Driver and Utility, as well as the Hotkeys application. Multiple reboots later, the touchpad and touchpoint were still disabled. The fix, it seems, is to go into the BIOS (F2 at boot I believe?) under Config --> Mouse --> and disable EITHER the Touchpad OR the Touchpoint. When both devices are active, neither will work. When one device is disabled, the other will work. I'm waiting on word from Lenovo about a better fix, but for now this will let you use the laptop without a USB mouse.

My touchpad has been unresponsive for a while now. I can use my touch screen, as well as plugging in a mouse, but my preferred method of using the netbook is by using the touchpad.I have tried installing both the synaptnic and elantec drivers, but neither work. Acer live chat states I have no warrenty even though I pay annually, and since this is a big problem for me, I have come to the forums, which is not something I ever do.Thanks,Louise.

I bought an acer aspire 5247 very recently and my touch pad doent work when laptop is plugged in for recharging

Answer:Acer touchpad not working when charging batte

That is very strange behavior, you can try updating the driver for the touch pad from their website. If that does not help, contact this is a new laptop to contact their tech support to see if they can help, if not then you are on record with the problem so you can get them to repair or replace if needed under warranty. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
