GeForce4 Ti 4200, dual monitors and tv-out problems

Question: GeForce4 Ti 4200, dual monitors and tv-out problems

Hello,

As the title states, I'm having some issues with having all three devices connected to my video at the same time. My card has a vga, dvi, and s-video slot. I have a lcd monitor connected to the vga connector, a crt monitor connected to the dvi port through a dvi to vga adapter, and I just recently bought an s-video cord to hook up to my tv which also takes s-video.

It seems that I can't have all three connected at the same time because when I restarted so that the tv could be detected, my system kept making weird noises and displaying some message on a black screen before windows loaded, but I couldn't see what it said since the comp. restarts before I can read it. As soon as I unplugged the s-video cable the comp. started up normally. I think I read somewhere that nvidia cards can only have two displays active at once, but my main question is: Is there a way to switch between using my lcd and crt monitor and using my lcd and tv without screwing up settings?

Sorry for rambling and the long explanation, any advice or sources of advices would be much appreciated!

P.S. another side issue I had was that when I got the display working on the tv, the tv would not show the entire window, like part of it was cut off from the top, i tried messing with the resolutions but it didn't work, is there any way to make it so that a window will maximize properly on the tv.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I had this problem before and it was only a nuisance, now it's a real problem. I cannot set my display higher than 1024x768, although before I replaced the motherboard/reformated, I was able to. I just installed Need for Speed Underground 2, and I can't put it higher than 800x600, and setting the detail past the third notch crashes my system. I've only tried to play the game once, and it froze up during the first cut scene, and every time it switches screens, my moniter settings go all crazy. I have the latest drivers.

Geforce 4 ti 4200 problem, need help.

I recently got a Chaintech A-GT20, geforce 4 ti 4200 128mb.
Sys info:
Dell 4400, P4 1.7, 256mb ram DDR.
motherboard is Intel 845PT
Windows XP
The video card DID NOT come with the Dell, it's an add-on.

Windows works great. Graphic quality is great. However, any game I play I have a stutter like effect that keeps happening. It appears to happen at certain intervals. It is almost a full pause is what it's like.

I've tried getting NVMAX and setting the AGP to 2x, the Intel option. I've tried other settings as well but to no avail.

One thing I've heard is that the power supply not being beefy enough could be a problem, but is it this kind of problem. The Dell's, per their web site, all come with 250watt power supplies. Unfortunately the one in my ssytem does not say on it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Answer:Geforce4 ti 4200, problems with gamimg

Hi jcs,

Welcome aboard.

Couple things I'd like to know: what drivers are you using? Have you changed drivers? What card & drivers did you have? Have you been to Win Update, Intel &/or Dell for any updates? You still using NVMAX?

I'd like you to run dxdiag.exe & see what version of DX you have & then click on the Display tab & see if Direct Draw & Direct 3D acceleration are enabled. Try the tests.

Suggestions: use the latest nVidia drivers & DX8.1 from M$. Try to make sure the former drivers have been deleted completely. Make sure you have all the XP updates too.

Odd situation. I have two video cards a geforce4 MX 4000 and built in Intel Q965/Q963 installed in a HP dc5700 with 1GB of RAM running Win7 Enterprise fresh install. The onboard Intell has the latest drivers from HP and the nVidia I got working using the 81.98 forceware driver.

If I select the nvidia card as the main video card in the BIOS the display will show up on just one monitor (the one plugged in to the card), if I look in the device manager it sees both cards w/o errors yet I have no option for dual display, if I click on "detect" it finds nothing. Also all the nvidia software runs fine.

However if I select the onboard card as the default then the display goes on just it's monitor but this time in device manager the nvidia card has the "windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (code 43)" message and obviouly no option for dual monitors.

It would seem both drivers and monitors are working since they work independantly, it's just that Windows7 doesn't seem to want them to play together. Also this situation worked fine when pc was WinXP

Any suggestions other then a new video card.

Answer:dual monitors with old geforce4 mx 4000

Hi.

GeForce 4 series of cards can not work on Windows 7. Maybe with XP driver, but you definitely will never have the Aero interface available.

Sounds like you seriously need to upgrade your hardware to run Windows 7.

If you want to alleviate the error code 43, you'll need to find some chipset driver update and/or bios update. Not likely.

So not only do you need a new video card, you need a whole new system (if you can not update the chipset drivers for the mainboard.)

Ordering a new system from Dell. Video card choices are the 4600 or the 4200. My son and I are enthusiastic but not obsessed gamers (FPS & RTS mostly).

Question: Considering the $230 price difference, are the performance differences marginal or dramatic enough to warrant the extra dollars? What degree of difference is there?

Also, will the 128MB card carry us further into the future than the 64MB 4200?

I know "answers" here are relative and subjective, but much appreciation for opinions.

*** Dell doesn't offer the Geforce4 4400 card.

Question: GeForce4 Ti 4200

Can anyone help please. I have a Carrera 253 CB 60 gig HD 512 Ram and it has a GeForce4 Ti 4200 with 64Mb memory graphic card. Problem is that I cannot play games the mother board is an Asus P4S533-E which supports 4x APG and it is set at that in BIOS but the properties say that Bus APG is 2x should this card support 4x or is the 2x correct. Pc keeps crashing after about 15 mins I have checked for the latest drivers and BIOS updates but now I'm completely stuck any advice would be welcome.

I posted a question once before about this questionable card, but this is from another angle.

I have a GeForce4 MX 440 64mb and it works fine. On the otherhand I have a GeForce4 TI 4200 64mb that I Acquired from someone, but when it starts doing something with the 3D part of the card it freezez and you have to restart. So far it only happens when I run a diagnostic on the card, and no other time. I AM NOT A GAMMER, I just use it for video, with that being said any suggestions on which card I should use? Is there a big difference betwee the two if your not playing 3D games? I don't know a whole lot about video cards so any input would be helpful.

Question: GeForce4 TI 4200

I just acquired a geforce4 ti 4200 agp video card today and at first it seemed alright. Any time I try to test the functionality of the card it'll go fine until it starts teesting the 3d graphics. At that point it'll freeze and i'll have dots all over the screen. Could this be flawed settings, or just the card its self may be bad?

Card could be bad. Make sure that the driver for that card is up to date

Question: GeForce4 TI 4200

Any idea on the power requirements? My brother is buying a new system http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0169804 and its only got a 250 W power supply. I would feel more confident if it wasn't that it had so much stuff already plugged into it like the 2 CD drives and stuff, I haven't ever put a small power supply into a computer running a card that fast, and I after hearing that the 6800 recommends a 470W power supply I'm curious what the minimum for the older card is. Anybody know what the power requirement is?

Answer:GeForce4 TI 4200

With the GF4Ti, that system needs at least 312W from the PSU, according to this online power calculator, so 250 doesn't even come close. Even without the card (subtract 30W), it still doesn't fly.

I would strongly recommend against buying that system.

1. Anyone that would design a system with a 250W PSU is trying to cut corners. If they'll cut that corner, what other corners have they cut? From the description:

Make sure all components are the lowest cost for an acceptably high standard of qualityClick to expand...

"Lowest cost" can never equate to a "high standard of quality" IMO.

2. Except for the CPU, you have no idea what brand of components they're using. Motherboard, RAM, hard drive, optical drives, PSU, etc. are all an unknown quantity.

3. Small case: only two spare PCI slots and 1 free drive bay. Also, cooling fans aren't even mentioned. Might run hot, esp with that CPU.

4. For that price, you could put together a much better system yourself.

So I am wondering how to get aero to work with this old video card.
i know its an old POS but its all i have for the moment.
i searched the forums for ppl with similar issues, and was told, and did, install the 72.30 drivers, and they work for directx at least, which is better than beforehand, when i got the blue screen of death whenever i tried to access directx.
now i'm trying to get aero to activate.
my score is a 1.9 for graphics on the windows index, is that just too low?

I have a KDS 19" VS-190is monitor and a pny geforce 4 ti4200 vid card....for some reason they don't want to work together. I get no posting to the monitor at all. The video card works fine however and I'm using it now on another monitor. I emailed pny tech support and this is the response I got........................

There is a known issue with our GeForce4 line and KDS monitors. The problem is after several minutes the monitor goes black or you get no signal at all. The resolution for this is to break off a pin on the cable. This is from KDS themselves. Before performing this PLEASE check KDS to verify the correct pin to remove and to make sure that you don't void their warranty on the monitor.

I there any way you could help me find out which pin I need to remove or where to find out? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i already own a leadtek ti4200 64mb card but have seen an inno 3d fx5200 128mb card on ebay for £67 , when 6 months ago my card cost me £120 does this mean the 5200 is pants , can anyone advise if it would be an upgrade or not to switch to a 5200 ?

Answer:geforce4 ti 4200 or fx 5200 ?

I wouldnt buy from ebay for that price, because you can get it new for just £70.In my opinion, the FX5200 is probably better, and it doesnt use a fan either, but it isnt that much of an upgrade from the Ti4200.If you want a good card, look at the amazing price of this FX 5600 click hereThis costs about £300 in other places, so I dont know why its so cheap.

I have used this card for FFxi for 2 years now and did not have a problem with video lag. I recently bought a new MB (Abit KU8 model), hardrive, more memory. I had to reinstall FF and I got the latest drivers for the video card (81.98 Forceware version) the video Bios version reads 4.25.00.34. I have windows XP service pack 2, DirectX 9.0 or better the processor is AMD athlon 64 3700+. I am having VERY bad video lag in populated areas of the game to the point it is almost impossible to play. Everything in my computer is supposed to be better, yet it is even more video lag than before. Can somone help me out as to what I should try? Is it possible that this driver is not going to work for me? I even updated to the latest BIOS on my MB. HELP ME OUT! ; ;

The latest drivers are not really meant for such an old card. the best thing to do would be to go to the card makers site and download the last set of drivers they have listed for that card.

Hello,

I have recently had trouble with my graphics card. It started while I was playing an online game, DAOC. After playing for 15 minutes or so, my screen suddenly was covered by white dots. I was still able to move the cursor around, but other than that the computer seemed to be frozen. I was forced to manually turn off the computer.

Since then I have tried restarting the computer several times. Each time the screen has white vertical lines running across it, and the computer often reboots itself halfway through the initial login. When it does finally boot up to the desktop it is again covered in white dots and lines, and I am unable to do anything other than manually shut it down.

I have tried starting it in Safe Mode and have gotten to the destop successfully, however the white vertical lines are still there. From Safe Mode I have downloaded the most recent drivers, as well as, the original drivers with no difference in results.

Any ideas on what is going on and what the solution may be? If you need more info I'd be glad to post it.

Thanks

HELP! I have NO clue what is going on. I bought a new desktop PC (a custom build at a local pc store) about 18 months ago. The monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 955DF. I'm running Windows XP Professional on a Pentium 4 2.40 GHz with 512MB RAM.

The display driver is an NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8X.

Within the past 60 days, the monitor flickers, draws weird colors on screen, goes black for 5-10 seconds before restoring, etc. I can only run it in a few modes for it to be readable. I am currently running it in 800 x 600, because that's about the only thing I can read! I get weird distortions, etc. when I try to run in a higher mode, although it has worked fine up until 2 months ago.

I am somewhat of a novice (definitely not a techno-geek), and don't know what to do! Can anyone help?
1. Is my screen bad?
2. Is my driver bad? (can't find any updates at NVIDIA website)
3. Do I have a card, or a motherboard that is bad?

As you can tell, I'm pretty much lost!

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Ok this may seem like a stupid post but I'm not any sort of genius when it comes to computers.

Anyway.

Currently I'm using the Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440, it works fine.
I just got a vid card from a friend, which happens to be an Nvidia GeForce4 Ti 4200, from what I heard, a fairly decent upgrade.

Anyway.

I did the whole uninstalling of old drivers and installing 'new' drivers, yet, when I plug the card in and turn my computer on, the screen's all messed up and colors are flying everywhere and it looks like I bashed an LCD screen with a bat or something. I was confused as to why it would do such a thing when, as I thought, I had installed the new card correctly.

Thus,

I am wondering whether this 'new' card may indeed be 'burnt out'.
How can you tell if a card is burnt out, is there any way to fix it, and, and regardless to whether it is burnt out or not, could someone kindly explain to me the proper way to install a video card (I know the whole plugging-it-in deal, but I get a bit lost with the drivers and updates, so perhaps that's why it's not working?).

Help will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I have a MSI K8T-Neo2 and had a similar problem with my video. I tried all sorts of video setting with the AGP, fastwrite, apature size, etc.

One thing I noticed was if I turned on my computer, then immediately hit the reset switch, the display would work fine.

Since I'm also having some issues with my video card, I didn't figure it out until I put my old card in and it did the same thing.

What I did:
Under the power management (PM), I put PM in set it to S3/STR, and enabled the "Call VGA BIOS at S3 Resuming" option. I also had to set "Wake Up by PS/2 Mouse" to "S3/S4/S5".

I'm not saying this will work for you, but when I boot the computer, I get my display.

Having just upgraded from XP using the Nvidia dual monitor desktops for years, I was surprised to find Windows 7 has this feature in-built with the added bonus of slideshow desktop images C00L!
So beyond Win7 eye candy which is better, Does it come down to games running faster under the Nvidia dual desktops, what is the general preference here?

Answer:Is Nvidia dual monitors a poor cousin to Windows 7 dual monitors?..

afaik, there is no real performance difference, as all stuff is handled by the nvidia driver anyway.

And of course the more monitors the higher performance hit as there is more screen surface to work on (the same as increasing resolution).

Btw, the main pityfall of the multiple monitors is that the taskbar is only in the primary monitor, but there are a ton of good third party programs that can handle this, like Actual Multiple Monitors.

Hi guys,

First of all, I didn't really know where to put this, so my apologies if I did anything wrong.

I recently found a second monitor just lying around and decided to hook it up to my laptop. It worked fine for about a week but now, after maybe 30 minutes of use the problem occurs;

First of all, both my screens go completely black and the windows error sound plays. After a few seconds my main monitor comes on again and the seconds displays 'No Signal'.
Around 10-20 seconds later, the seconds monitor comes on again, but all the windows have been moved onto my main monitor.
I really don't know what else to say, I'm unsure what the problem is.

Anyway, thanks for any help.

-MrYodaylay

Answer:Problems With Using Dual Monitors.

Check your power settings, some laptops on battery power will disable a second monitor automatically. Also, did you try clicking type mobility center in the search programs and files, and choosing the monitor mode you want under display? You can also press the Windows Key + P to open Display Switch.

You can also check your settings against this tutorial here, and see related tutorials there as well:

When I go to "Display" "Settiings" there is no "Identify Hardware" tab. all is shows is a single monitor, with no options. Both monitors a working fine, but only in unision.

Answer:Dual monitors problems

You should be able to run software from Dell/ATI to set up both monitors; it should have come with your system. If not, go to www.dell.support.com and download it for your particular card. Once that is done and run, make sure and go to Display in Control Panel and ensure that they are placed the way you have them, 1 & 2 or 2 & 1.

I have AIM and when I open a window or recieve an IM it shows up in my primary monitor I drag it to my secondary monitor thou but I was wonderin if there was away to recive IM;s from my second monitor.

Answer:Dual Monitors Problems

A window should reopen in the same spot you closed it. By default any program will open a new window (one it's never opened before) on the primary monitor (hence why it's the primary monitor). If it's not opening on the secondary monitor upon reopening (after having closed it on the secondary monitor) it's because AIM themselves have done something stupid to prevent such functionality.

If you want some help with dual display issues or an app that can help with things like this you should check out ultramon you can find it at www.realtimesoft.com. It's the best dual display app I've ever found and I use it myself all the time.

So I decided to try dual monitors, but I'm having a few problems:

1. How do I add my icons to the first monitor while still keeping them on the second? I tried copy/paste, but it doesn't support icons with the same name.

2. I downloaded Ultramon, and it let me add another taskbar, but not the start menu, the icons next to it, and the clock and the icons next to it.

3. How do I make it so games won't minimize when I use the other monitor?

Oh yea, Ultramon only has a 30 day trial period. Is there anyway to do this without it, or are there any other programs?

When i was running dual monitors the graphics card had 2 ports. The problem with this is that you can only use either the graphics card, or the onboard graphics card. You can't use both at once. Atleast this is what I learned. There could be a way, but never found one.

Ok, this problem is getting really annoying and I think its a problem with windows 7 itself and not my computer.

Basically I have a dual monitor setup with the left hand monitor as my secondary and right hand monitor as my primary.  Whenever I have an application with any graphics on it at all such as a progress bar on my left hand monitor moving windows around becomes laggy and juddery, yet this doesn't happen when the graphical app is on my primary monitor!

Updating to latest drivers
Upgraded system memory from 2GB to 4GB

upgraded my PSU

I just installed Vista Business and get the same exact image on both of my monitors. How do I change it so that the displays are independent? Do I need to download the ATI drivers instead of using the ones built into Vista? Thanks in advance. So far, Vista looks pretty slick.

Answer:Problems with dual monitors in Vista...

I'm not on my Vista machine right now, and I can't remember the exact vernacular but it's in Display Properties. Highlight your secondary display, and then select the option to "stretch" (or something like that) the desktop onto the secondary display.

I have a dual monitor setup on my pc. Gforce4 440 128mb agp card and an ATI rage 128 pro pci. My problem is that when i am playing media ie music, video etc. i get distorted sound when i open, close, maximize, move any window on the monitor that is on the ati rage card. I remove the card and the sound distortion goes away. I have moved the monitors around, i have updated drivers for EVERYthing in this mess. I have an ECS mobo k7s5a with sis7012 integrated sound. cannot find ANY references for this type of problem. The only thing i haven't done is tried another pci card to replace the ATI. I would just like to know why there is distortion.

THanks in advance!

Hi There everyone!

This is a new build. Please check the spec's for this machine.

My default OS is Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. When I am using this OS all Is good with my monitors. My left screen is my primary screen and has the start button and all my short-cut icons on it which is the way I would like it to be in all three Os'. I can open many panes and move them back and forth to any screen I want.

When I restart the system to enter into Win Vista Home premium My Right screen is the primary screen and I cannot move any panes into the left screen and i cannot move the cursor into the left screen.

When I open the device manager in this OS there are no problems showing in either the display adapters or the monitor criteria.

I have tried correcting the problem in both the windows control panel in displays and also in the Nvidia control panel and I can't seem to solve this problem.
What do i need to do to get my left monitor to be my primary screen and to move window panes from left to right and vice versa.

Not sure but I think this is a driver issue.

Thank you for your help.

Answer:Problems With Dual-Monitors in a Multi-Boot System

Hi ranger, welcome to VF, it is a bit of a problem, I assume you've updated your drivers from Nvidia's site? I've not come across a problem like this for a while, but it does sound like Nvidia's drivers at fault, have you tried switching the dvi ports around, might fix it, and have you also tried reverting back to WDDM drivers and see if it is Nvidia's fault? I often find also that when you try and adjust a setting on nvidia control panel, you need to set the resolution to low to get results, however that may just be me :-)

I am having a nagging problem with getting the 2nd monitor in my dual monitor setup to start properly when doing a Windows restart (only). The appearance is blue and very faded. It looks like a CRT where the red and green guns are not working. I can faintly see the information being displayed but it's hard to view. This problem does not happen when I do a complete turnoff and boot my computer fresh as everything works perfectly.

What happens differently during a restart vs a fresh start?

I am using a GeForce2 MX/MX400 NVidia compatable video card from gainwardusa.com and am running Windows XP Pro with SP2.

I have contacted gainwardusa and have been sent several different drivers in an attempt to solve my problem but thus far, I have been unable to care for this issue.

One other point......when the pc recovers from standby or hibernation, everything comes back working properly.

Does anyone have any ideas?

HI. I have a Samsung HD monitor and a VGA SuncMaster Samsung monitor. The HD monitor is what I use on my desktop all the time. I am wanting to have dual monitors to use on occasion and use both these at the same time with a mirror image. The graphic card ATI Radeon HD 5450 has a place for my HD and VGA slots. Win 7 recognizes both monitors, BUT my HD monitors resolution is not HD anymore but the VGA monitor is good.

How do I get the settings to be the same as it is on my HD monitor and then display the mirror image to the VGA monitor????

Thanks so much, Tammy

Answer:ATI Radeon HD 5450 Dual Monitors HDMI & VGA Resolution Problems

Are you sure what you want is to DUPLICATE the contents of both monitors (referred to as "clone mode")? You want to show the identical desktop content on both monitors identically and simultaneously?

Or do you want to EXTEND the Windows desktop to run horizontally across both monitors, so that your Windows desktop is pretty much "double wide"? This allows you to drag windows onto one or the other monitor, and open up independent program windows on either monitor to meet your needs (e.g. to look at two open program windows independently presented on each of your monitors).

If you run the dual-monitor setup in EXTEND mode (with one of the monitors called "primary" monitor for Windows and the other monitor known as the "extend/secondary" monitor) then each monitor can be configured to run at its own native/optimal resolution, independent of what the other is configured at. So if you have a CRT (typically 4:3 or so) it can run at say 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 or 1440x900 or something like that, while your flatscreen/TV (typically 16x9 or 16x10) can run at say 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 or 1680x1050 or something like that. So you'd get FULL use of both monitors at their native/optimal resolutions, and maximum width of the effective combined Windows desktop.

If instead you do really want to run the two monitors in "clone mode", then you only have a Windows desktop that is the smaller of the two monitors. And you will be running the... Read more

I recently updated my nVidia drivers to the latest and also my SiSandra Lite software (for quick access to accurate specs of my PC). After updating SiSandra Lite, I looked at the GPU section. As usual it loaded the primary monitor first where everything was fine. I then changed to look at my secondary and my primary monitor turned off and my desktop was shifted to my second.

Now when I boot my computer, my primary comes on, but after the pre and post bios. Only when Grub comes on does something appear on my primary monitor, but it's very low resolution (compared to what it used to be). The windows 7 loading bar appears on my primary but before the logo can appear and glow, it swaps to my secondary monitor where it stays.

Windows 7 cannot detect my primary monitor trying both screen resolution detection and it's missing from the devices menu. Really confused about this whole business

I realise this may have been posted as a problem before. I did find little snippets of information about it but nothing sufficient.

Any help or redirecting to places where this problem has been solved would be much appreciated

Thanks

Ben

Hey everyone.

I recently (not so recently) bought a 4200+ as an upgrade to my existing 3200+. the a8v-e says it supports dual core cpu's with a bios update. as such i did. Now it reads as dual core but with 1 core not doing anything. and when i ctr+alt+del it shows only 1 cpu in cpu usage chart which isnt right. I have tried talking to asus but the people over phone dont speak a word of english and the forum system tells me to go away.

Any help would be great

Answer:A8v-e deluxe and 4200+ dual core

I think you got a defective CPU. Your board is interesting because it has all kinds of over clocking features...but... it uses older 400, 333, and 266 mhz ram. socket 939 handles many processors. Athlon 64 FX and the X2. It will recognize your dual core CPU anytime. Why not jack it up to the fastest that will fit?

Hi,My setup includes dual monitors with a T61 in port replicator  and a Dell 24" monitor positioned above.  While I can achieve this setup by manually dragging the external monitor above the laptop each time I dock, I cannot get the Presentation Director to capture this position accurately.  It will capture the setup, but reverts to horizontal monitors with left/right mouse whenever the captured profile is used.   [With my old T43 in the same setup, I was able to get the monitor positions memorized correctly. ] Does anyone have a solution?  I've checked the Control Panel--> Display settings and the NVIDIA Control panel.  The control panel allows me to set up the external monitor as per above, but I haven't found any control to ensure the settings "stick".

Answer:Dual Monitors / Cannot capture vertical monitors (mouse up /down vs left /right)

Additional Note:  I've also tried creating a new profile in the Presentation Director with the selection for "External Monitor positioned above laptop", but that does not work as it will not recognize the external monitor resolution of 1900x1280, and thus will not allow me to finish the profile.

i've been trying to find out how far i can push the amd athlon 64 x2 dual core 4200+ running at 2.2GHz on a ECS C51PVGM-GB Version 1.0 Motherboard.

I attached the complete specs i got through running dxdiag in command prompt.

I really dont kno where to even start with overclocking this CPU so whatever anyone could do would be much appreciated.....:grinthumb

Answer:Help overclocking my Athlon 4200 64 dual core

How far you can push a CPU depends on a myriad of factors. Your cooling system. The CPU architecture. The CPU manufacturing process. Whether you are willing to overvolt or not. And often, luck.

dxdiag won't provide you with any of that information. You should use CPU-Z to get that information and then determine what options your motherboard has available to you for altering things like the FSB speed, HTT link speed and divider, et cetera.

Brush up a bit on the CPU itself first before you mess with it.

The ECS board won't provide you much room for altering anything anyway, as it is designed to be an entry level board with not a lot of option.

I have an ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 9600 video card. It's been working properly for quite awhile and now suddenly the cursor moves to the second monitor when I drag the cursor beyond the bottom of the first monitor.

It used to go from one monitor to the other by dragging it from left-to-right. I can't figure out what caused it to start doing this or how to go about getting it back to the way it was before. Any ideas how to change it back. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi! I just upgraded to Win8 this weekend and so far I really like it. I discovered something this morning that now that the weekend is over is bugging the crap out of me and I need help. I work from home and use this alot so it would be helpful.

I am trying to do a couple things I could easily do in 7,
- have Chrome open in both monitors at once with different things on them.
- currently Chrome has no minimize/maximize buttons on the upper right like it used to. Makes it very hard to multitask.

I have 2 monitors, the main is a 23" touch screen and the second is an 18" non-touch screen.

Also, is there a way to have the taskbar to appear at the bottom always like it used to?

Thanks! I really appreciate the help!

Answer:Windows 8 Dual Monitors, need help having browser open in both monitors

Answered my own question. Google Chrome was showing in App mode. When I downloaded Chrome for 8 there is an option to have it show in desktop mode and the taskbar, minimize/maximize, and multi window option came back. YAY.

Now if someone could tell me why windows 8 won't fill the screen at the resolution recommended for my 23" monitor I'd be good!

So I just ordered an 8800gts to replace my 7800gts in Vista x64. I was wondering if keeping it and running my secondary monitor off of it would alleviate the stress aero puts on the video card when running dual monitors and gaming and increase my performance. Would I be better off keeping the 7800gts for the second monitor? Is this even possible?

Answer:Dual Video cards, dual monitors, and Vista game performance

It is certainly possible, you can use both cards at the same time, assuming your mob supports it.

I doubt if you'll see a huge increase in gaming performance, as aero essentially shuts itself off when needed (gaming), but it won't hurt anything either.

im looking round... i guess this is a pretty problematic card

Anyway, i play counter strike 1.6, counter strike source, and battlefield 1942 alot (HL2 when i finish downloading it =P). I have the 128MB version of this card, and a friend i have has the 64mb version. His computer has the same specs as mine, but .2GHz slower, the 64mb gfx card and a different sound card.
in counter strike 1.6, i get 60fps max.

I'll be looking at my fps while i'm playing, and it is hovering at 59.8/.9 and 60.0. I've done fps_max 100, but it doesnt help. My friend who has the 64mb card gets 100+fps. I have all the new drivers, and my CS resolution is 800x600

Ok for at least a half a year now I been trying to get my video card, which is a Gforce4 MX440, to go 8x. I know its not the greatest but it was cheap. It says it may run at 8x but for some reason it wont go beyond 4x. I have updated the drivers. Nothing. Some friends told me there should be a jumper setting on the video card but I have found none. But a little history on the video card. When I first got it (Didn't know much about computers then) I tried to put it in my current computer which was a POS P3 400mhz. Its AGP was 4x. Couldn't get it to work. My friend installed it for me, worked fine. Then I got a newer computer. Still was an AGP 4x. Then about 6 months ago I built a new computer that came with an AGP 8x. I used a utility that showed me my statistics of my computer. It says it supports 8x but the video card is only running at 4x. One of my questions is, Is there a jumper setting that needs to be set on the video card or the motherboad to fix this problem. Or have I ruined my video card to where I may only run at 4x? If you need the statistics of my computer let me know. Its a long list but it gives you details in everything.

Hey, I'm having trouble with my Geforce4 MX 440 w/ AGP8X driver. I have had the card since last August or so and everything ran well with it up until now. I just upgraded my OS from Windows Me to Windows XP Home. I had my HDD formatted and then I installed XP. After I got XP set up, I downloaded the newest driver from Nvidia's site. During installation, my screen blacked out a few times, but I'm sure that's normal. Once the driver was finished with installation, I rebooted as I was supposed to. After the logo screen, the screen went blank. I pressed some things on the keyboard and such and I heard the default sound when logging on a user. This tells me that my computer is working fine but the video card is not. I reset and ran the computer in VGA mode and I noticed something in my taskbar stating that my computer was running in a very low resolution. I clicked on it to fix it as it told me to, but my computer reset itself. Before it reset, though, it flashed a blue background with a bunch of white text. This wasn't the same kind of text nor format as a BSOD, though. Any ways, I reboot my computer in VGA mode once again and I noticed that little thing in the tray again. I didn't click it this time. Instead, I right clicked my desktop and went to properties. When I went to the rightmost tab (Settings), my computer did the same thing as before; it flashed some blue screen and reset. The third time I loaded my computer in safe mode and I uninstalled ... Read more

Has this just started to happen? If it has what has changed hardware wise in the computer? You may want to make sure that the Video card is seated correctly in the slot and that if it has a fan that its working. Geforce4 440mx question

I have a couple questions concerning the recently released GeForce4 440mmx. I have been experiencing nothing but trouble (my computer freezes randomly, esp. when I try to play ANY game) since I installed this card. I was using a Voodoo3 3000 AGP with absolutely no troubles. I upgraded to WIN XP at the same time I installed the card and performed a fresh install, so I know there arent any rogue 3dfx files causing my troubles. I've spent the last week scouring the net for answers, and I've learned that many others have had simliar problems. The problem I am having though, is that everyone also has a different cause/solution. I've read about the 'infinite loop' error and downloaded the NVMAX program with hopes to fix this, to no avail. I also read somewhere that the problem is that Windows isn't coded to run these cards at their stock speeds, so I tried lowering the speed and still the same thing. I'm at a total loss as to where to go now. (And yes, I've read your Nvidia guide, which is very well written I might add...of course, I'd like it more if I was able to solve my troubles with it ) Anyway, back to my questions...

Would taking this card back and paying the extra money for a highend Geforce3 be worth the time and trouble? and might this be a fix of sorts? or at least would changing to a GeForce3 make all this trouble I'm experiencing worth it?

and finally, should I scrap it all toge... Read more

Answer:Geforce4 440MX Problems/Questions

I can't really help you with your graphics card problem for I have only a GeForce 2 Pro so I haven't experienced your problems.

What I can tell you though is that changing to a GeForce 3 is a viable alternative. Personally I would give the G4 a little bit longer and try all the newest drivers available and some older ones to try and fix the problem. I've heard the new G4's are supposed to be really good and around 20% faster than current G3's.

However, a GeForce 3 by Leadtek or Gainward would be an awesome jump from your older VooDoo card I'm sure. It's really up to you on if you want the hassle of returning it and buying a new card.

I would keep with the G4 for a couple more weeks and try some different drivers, and see what happens.

After upgrading my system to a 3GHz P4 HT with an Intel 865PERL board I transfered my Geforce4 TI 4600 (Visiontek) and installed WinXP Pro SP2. The video card works, but the system refuses to detect it as a Geforce and only detects it as the default VGA card. If I try to install the NVidia drivers, they error out saying they couldn't detect a valid NVidia product. If I then install the drivers manually, selecting the TI 4600, the card works more fully but has serious performance and stability problems. The screen frequently flashes random artifacts from the card's memory, and in some games leaves a large perimeter of junk around the edges. Does anyone know of a way to get XP to detect this card correctly so I can get my system to work the way it should.

Thanks,

Adam

P.S. Replacement of the card is not an option.

Answer:Geforce4 TI 4600 dectection problems

Go to Intel's website: http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scr...XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go!

Download and update the BIOS to the latest version. Then enter the BIOS setup and set the Primary VGA device to AGP. Also if your Geforce TI 4600 is AGP 4X then set the AGP to 4X otherwise leave it at 8X. If your really not sure then set it to AUTO.

Next install the latest Intel Chipset Software and Intel Application Accelerator. Those two are important for performance and compatibility. You might as well also download the audio, LAN, and other drivers as well.

Now go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall any Nvidia drivers if listed. Also go to Device Manager and remove any driver under Display Adaptors. Reboot. If Windows doesn't have a built-in driver for the card it is normal for the card to be installed as a Standard VGA device. It also must be listed in Device Manager as a Standard VGA device or as a Geforce card or the driver will not install; that means you cannot cancel the Found New Hardware Wizard but rather click Next all the way through then click Finish regardless if it finds a driver or not.

Now try installing the latest Nvidia driver off the Nvidia.com website, 77.77 I think is the latest.

If that fails then try an older driver from their archives like a 40 series driver.

I have a Matsonic motherboard with AGP 4X and a Geforce 4 mx 440 with AGP 8X. After I install the video card and the drivers for it ( i tried the lates detonator 44.23 ) and after restarting the computer the screen goes black like when it's on stand-by.
I tried different drivers for it but still nothing. To enter in windows i have to start the computer in safe mode and uninstall the detonator driver. After this there is no problem. It enters in windows it's finding mt graphic adapter but with it's one drivers. If i try to change the resolution the problem apears again ( the screen goes black after 3-4 sec). To reenter in windows i have two choices: Safe mode and uninstall the device; To enable vga mode.
I've tested the gf4 with another computer and it's working.
I don;t noe if it's of any help: I have Lg Studioworks 563n monitor

Answer:Problems with my geforce4 mx440 agp8x

i've had some problems with the newer detonator drivers too. stick with the drivers that came with your vidcard. i remember there was one fairly old but stable detonator driver for my PNY gforce4 mx440SE, i can't remeber the version number but i think on windrivers.com is where i found a copy of it.

if your card works fine with the drivers that came with it you should not try to upgrade it unless you have only the default generic winxp drivers

I recently purchased GeForce 4 MX 440 128mb DDR AGP 8X

My motherboard is a Gigabyte 7DXE. AMD Athlon 1900+ CPU and 512Mb RAM.

When I insert the card, plug in the monitor and startup, my monitor goes to suspend mode after about 3 seconds of displaying nothing.

What am I doing wrong? How do I make it work?

I got a geforce 4 ti 4200 to play eq2. Well when i put it in and rebooted, I got lines down my computer screen at my welcome screen. At the windows screen as well. After going in and downloading the updated drivers for this card at nvidia's website, After i did so, half way through the download I got a black screen with red dots. So I rebooted only to get a blinking screen. The screen went black and then back to normal. All of the graphics such as desktop wall paper and such looked normal. After uninstalling the drivers, it went to normal with no blinking screen. But it was delaying the scrolling on my explorer. Its kind like the pictures and words were rolling down on top of one another to refresh the page. I need help, my boyfriend and room mate who know a good bit about computers, are puzzled as well. Plz help me!!! Thanx

Okay I'm not sure if it's the drivers I have or what. Ever since I had to reformat and I installed my drivers my graphics card has been acting up. An example would be, when I'm playing PSO or L2....the graphics shift contstantly on my character....it's weird to explain. I've tried all kinds of drivers and it has yet to fix the problem. I took a screen so maybe it would help those understand my situation.

If you look close enough you can see how the characters clothes warp...it does that a lot worse in game so it's hard to get a screen.

I need some help here,
I am having issues with my graphics locking up on EA sports games like NHL 2004 and Madden 2004, everytime I start playing either of them I start having constant freezing every 30 seconds or so, I tried reformatting to no avail. So I think it is most likely a hardware problem. I have no issues with any other games and have used those 2 before with no issue at all for months since the releases. I have tried to use diferent drivers as well with no result. The problem seems to be isolated to just EA sprorts games. I am at a total loss here. I locks mostly when it is in a position where you are seeing detailed characters. when the cammera angles are farther away its fine. Like I said I have used both of these games for months at a time on this box and they worked great with very high settings. I also think its not my Prossesor because even though the graphics lock the music continues to play with absolutly no choppyness at all, It just locks the graphics. Someone please help!!!! I am dieing without Hockey in my life.

I now have two monitors set up on my computer. One is using the VGA output, and the other is plugged into a DVI to VGA convertor in the DVI port. I have a Radeon 9600 Pro video card and am running Windows XP Home.

What I want is to extend my taskbar across onto the second monitor. Even better than that would be to have a second, independant taskbar which displays only programs open on the second screen. The first screen's taskbar would show programs open and displayed on the first monitor.

Any ideas?

Actually, not exactly. I was hoping for a native Windows solution that doesn't require running another program to get the second taskbar.

I'll clarify my question: Is there a way to get a second taskbar on a second monitor using options or features found in Windows XP? Failing that, does anyone have any favourite programs they'd like to suggest?

Can anyone please tell me how to set up another monitor to work with my laptop computer? I've made a little progress, HOWEVER...

I would then like to open my Excel Workbook that has 2 sheets. One sheet is constant data input into various columns using my laptop. In the second sheet, I have formulas which constantly updates the data within a formatted table that I would like displayed onto the external monitor.

My project is to hook the laptop monitor into an overhead flat screen tv using HDMI cable. Then, while sitting in a corner with my laptop entering data, the results would be constantly updated for the audience to see.

Thanks...

Answer:dual monitors / dual programs set up

Hello dunna, welcome to Sevenforums

With a laptop, (assuming you have an HDMI port), it shouldn't be too difficult. However, laptops are different. For example, mine, you plug in the secondary monitor, and there is a function key (Fn) that you press, and the corresponding key to change the output mode (for me, it is F1). It should let you choose how you want to display to the monitor. Test it out yourself to see, but if you can't find it, let us know. It helps if you provide the laptop type, so we can tell you the keys exactly

GeForce 4 ti 4200 driver/card problems, I think... help please...

I'm Having a problem with my Videocard, it works great playing Soldier of Fortune2 and Jedi Knight2 under Windows XP Pro, but i tried to play Max Payne and i receive an error message saying that i needed a directx 8 compatible card to play the game, in the nvidia's page, it says the the card is directx 8 compatible.

Anyone having a problem like this?

Any solution?

Answer:{RESOLVED}Problems with my nvidia geforce4 mx440 in Windows XP

HI Franckx

Welcome to TSG!

I found this info on the Max Payne support page:

***
Common Graphics Card Problems

If you get an error message saying "Max Payne requires a DirectX 8 compatible graphics card",
but you have a supported 3D accelerator, latest drivers and DirectX 8 installed, check that your Direct3D works in other games,
or by using "DXDiag" application that comes with your system (Run->dxdiag; select Display tab, click on "Test Direct3D". You should get a "Direct3D test results: All tests were successful." message).
If Direct3D does not work, there is something wrong in your system configuration. We recommend you reinstall latest DirectX and graphics card drivers and try again. If you still can't start Max Payne, make sure your desktop is in 16-bit color mode.

***
http://www.3drealms.com/max/support/index.html

Unfortunately, your video card is not listed as being supported, but it should work, since yours is newer than the ones they list.

So I would go ahead with what they suggest and update the drivers for the card, and you might want to go ahead and get DirectX 9 while you're at it.

(I'm assuming your system meets the games specs to play?)

Hello, I'm having some strange problems with my graphic adapter, to put it short any application that uses 3d acceleration works for a short time then freezes..

A short history about the problem:

- had a Galaxy g4 mx 440 all worked fine
- had a Daytona g4 4200 wich broke (while I had this card I experienced rare short freazes from wich World of Warcraft came back, probably not related to my current problem, other 3d aplications worked fine, after installing it windows was formated)
- installed a Leadtek WinFast A170 DDR after 4200 broke and just reinstalled nvidias latest drivers, leaving windows unchanged
- all worked well for a while
- installed the graphic drivers provided by leadtek wich had amasing performance, and for a while all worked fine

After a while though I began to experience serious freazes, even games like Half Life (the first) froze after a short time of play, basicly any application using direct 3d or open GL froze, no matter how old or less demanding, chageing drivers only led to non permanent freazes , or less often ones but they still occur, I tried a wide range of drivers from almost the oldest detonators supporting mx440 to the latest forceweare drivers...

What is there to do, should I try a windows format? Is this card about to brake too? Does my motherboard brake cards?

My system:

AMD Sempron 2300+
Asus kt880 chipset motherboard
2 X 256 kingmax ddr 400 ram

Windows XP sp2

Hello Forums, i have an acer travelmate 4200 and im trying to get the wireless drivers working, here is the drivers page i found, i tried a couple of the driver's, but i havent found any that work, could anyone help me?

Acer Support: Downloads & Support Documents - Notebook / TravelMate / TravelMate 4200

Answer:Acer Travelmate 4200 driver problems

Did you Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7?

Only 32 bit drivers are available from the Acer website probably because of the 4gb RAM limitation. If you have 4gb RAM and want to use 64 bit then we'll need to find the driver elsewhere.

Does it say in Device Manager exactly which model Network Wireless LAN device you have? If not then trace it using Hardware Identification, google or post back the exact make/model and we'll help you find the exact 64 bit driver. The 32 bit drivers are listed under Wireless LAN although you'll need to at least trace the make.

You can also plug it in by wire to see if an Ethernet driver loads automatically, then let Windows Updates find the other drivers, report back any missing after all Important and Optional Updates are done.

I am having some "detection" issues with my KVM switch on a Windows 7 machine.

As you can see in the above diagram, PC 1 has two monitors connected to it. One coming off of the KVM (monitor 1) and one coming straight from the computer. (Monitor 2)

Now whenever I switch to PC 2 and back to PC 1, Monitor 2 goes dead and I have to re detect in Windows. Is there any way to get it to automatically re-detect after I switch back to PC 1?

Answer:KVM + Dual Monitors

The issue is caused by that the KVM did not support DDC/EDID communication check/feeding between connected system and console monitor. You can either find KVM switch support FULL-TIME All DDC/EDID or just put a VGA-EDID emulator between PC1 and the TK-207K.

Question: Dual Monitors

Well, problem solved by NOT USING the Nvidia control panel, just the plane jane windows controls work fine, they see the seperate monitor as not capable as the NEC's resolution, allow me do dial it down to an appropriate rez and keep the NEC nice and sharp. Go figure, would have thought that the card's control panel software would be better than Windows, but no. Solved.

I just built a PC, which I have done before several times, including a PC back 5 years ago with dual monitors - in which I did not have the problem I am having now.

I have a good new Nvidia 256mb card with both DVI and standard outputs. I am trying to use my old 15" monitor with a nice professional NEC monitor (nice one on the DVI). The secondary monitor I want to be a place for pallets in photoshop or just to keep a web browser open. I.E. it doesn't have to be fancy, just functional. The problem, however is the the Nvidia control panel really reduces the resolution of my primary monitor significantly when I try to use the 2nd monitor. Both the aspect ratio and all-over resolution are "ruined" on the good NEC. I was told that this would not occur by the salesperson on this card, that it was capable of handling 2 high-res monitors. When mixing my good and the old monitor, however, it seems to be defaulting to the lower res monitor (even when I make the good NEC the primary screen).

I don't want to, but am I going to have to get another video card? Is there some other 3rd pa... Read more

Hi all,

I'd like to run 3 DUAL monitors on my computer.

I used to use integrated graphics on my computer until recently, where i started using a video card
My video card has 2 outputs, so i can (have) two dual monitors right now.

I read in a article that when I plug in a new video card, the integrated graphics is disabled.
is there anyway i can enable the integrated graphics WITH the video card so i can have THREE dual monitors??

I have a AMD Athlon XP disc, with ATI Radeon 9550.

Thanks!!

Answer:Help with dual monitors

I was looking at the Vista help files and it says to use the keyboard shortcut that turns on monitors to get to the New Display Detected dialogue box to set up the undetected display. I guess you'll have to figure out what that is. It say that FN + F5 combination typically works on mobile pcs. You might give that a try.

Are you plugging into a graphics card? Does anything at all happen when you plug in the monitor, e.g., does Windows tell you it doesn't recognize the device.
