Picking a new monitor

Question: Picking a new monitor

Hello everyone. I will soon be upgrading my monitor and I am not sure which to get. Currently I am running a gtx 980 and my 6 year old 1600x900 acer is extremly underpowered to take full advantage of the card. My main issue is whether or not I should invest in a g-sync monitor since I do have a high end card. the concept of g sync seems nice but I've noticed a $200+ price increase for gsync monitors. Is it worth the investment for me? I plan on getting a 1ms 144hz monitor regardless I am just unsure if I should invest into a g sync monitor. thx everyone.

Preferred Solution: Picking a new monitor

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey there!

I really hope someone can help me. I bought a new pc in March and its been working fine till about a month or so ago. Now all of a sudden, God forbid if I turn the computer off. If I start the pc up, nothing happens. The monitor doesn't seem to pick it up (the computer goes on though and the fans run). I sent my computer in to the place I bought it and they started it up and it did the same thing. They then sent it to their technical dept and murpheys law it started up without a fuss. When I went to fetch it from the shop again, we started it up and it worked with no problem. Took pc home and again, worked fine - for about a week (permanently on for that week). Went away yesterday so turned it off when I left the flat. Got back home a moment ago and again same problem all over again - not starting up. I've emitted it being my screen cos it gave problems in the computer shop as well. Oh and the screen picks up my ps3. So again, not a monitor issue. I'm running my pc with the dvi cable. Thought that might be the problem, but the monitor doesn't pick up pc even when I try using both hdmi & vga as well. So yea.... Any ideas? Its driving me crazy!

Thanks in advance.

Hey, I am in need of a 2nd monitor for my job, but I'm having trouble deciding on the monitor. I've narrowed it down to four. Again, this is strictly for my job, no gaming will be done in it. My job doesn't involve anything graphic or video related. I also have a $20 newegg coupon that I will be using as well.

The first two look to be IPS and the last two TN. Not having DVI is fine. I don't even remember seeing IPS the last time I bought a monitor. Answer:Need Help Picking Monitor

I have a LG IPS and love it, It's a 5ms and there is faster but it is fine for me. The big plus to IPS is the colors are very vivid at any angle, With the TN monitors the colors start to fade when you see it at a angle and I'm not sure if this is because it's IPS or not or just me thinking it but the colors seem so much better on my IPS. Mine however is a 27 inch.

Question: Picking a monitor?

Hi all i am just in the middle of building my first build PC to which i have all the components ready to checkout at an online store.

Thing is, i want a bigger and better monitor to match my bigger and better PC ;p

Currently i have a viewsonic 19" 4:3 LCD and i want to ugrade to a more modern 16:9 format.

I also want to increase the size to either a 26" or a 27"

I dont play games although i do watch movies, my main use for the pc is picture edditing and 3D animation work. (PoserPro 2010)

I want to use either DVI-D or preferably HDMI connections and my budget is £260 ish.

I have seen a few out there but all have conflicting reviews, here is what i have looked at so far.

Asus vw266h
Iiyama e2710hds
Viewsonic VX2739wm
HANNS-G 27.5

I am up for any suggestions for other makes, but i would really appreciate some first hand product feedback.

Thanks in advance,

Vale.

Answer:Picking a monitor?

you might want to go with 16:10 format because it gives you more room to work with when picture edditing and 3D animation work. I love my Dell U2410 24" 16:10 1920x1200 monitor but its about 2 times your budget. This Hanns.G HZ281HPB 27.5" Widescreen LCD Monitor for £259.99 inc VAT £221.27 ex VAT looks great.

I had planned on this one:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3321518&sourceid=26654236520803676220

But my gf already has this one:
http://www.icuepc.com/www/productdetail.asp?did=255

Which of these is better for gaming?

Also, what do I want to look for in LCD Monitors when it comes to gaming compatiblity and quality?

And one more question...
Could someone explain what these 2 options mean, and what affect they have on the look of the monitor and it's effectiveness?
Brightness 450 cd/m2
Contrast Ratio 500:1

For instance, the monitor my gf has has these options:
Brightness 450 cd/m2
Contrast Ratio 500:1

But it is too dark most of the time for the kind of games I play.
The monitor I want has these options:
# 500:1 contrast ratio
# Reaction time (Tr/Tf) 15ms/10ms
# Brightness 250 cd/m

Which monitor would be brighter and have a better picture while still being a good choice for FPS games (first-person shooters)?

THANKS FOR ANY HELP!!!

Friend has recently been building a new pc from scratch. He's bought a new case, mobo, GPU, PSU and some ram, I put the pc together.
Mobo - gigabyte 970a-ds3
Card - MSI had 7850
GPU - ambiance 80+ 700w
I turned the pc on and everything is spinning, even the GPU fans but there is no signal being picked up, help? There is no on board graphics for the motherboard so I'm guessing that I shouldn't have to enable the pci-e slot? Any help please? The had was from his existing PC.

Hi, lately I've been having problems with my PC it just randomly restarts and I'm not sure what the problem is so far I've checked to see if it was a heating issue but it wasn't because when I wake up and turn it on like 5-15mins later it just randomly restarts and sometimes I get a blue screen. So today it happened again but this time I'm not getting any signal to my monitor, like I can hear everything load and it loads up windows onto the desktop because you can hear the windows theme when you start up windows, so far I've check to see if it was a monitor issue by trying different monitors but the current monitor that's not picking up any signal works fine on my other PC so I am in need of help I'm currently running SLI aswell and my 2nd GPU Isn't picking up any power so I'm not sure if it's my GPU, MOBO, or PSU. Any help or suggestion will do please. - thanks

Answer:Monitor not picking up any signal???

Ok, if you can (I'm not sure on how sli works really), use both cards separately and see if one is defective. If everything is loading up properly and you hear the sound, then i doubt its a PSU problem otherwise windows wouldn't load. It's most likely one of your gpu's.

Hi,
I'm just wondering if anyone can diagnose a problem that happened to my computer a couple of days ago.
I had just started to play a game demo when my monitor went into power saver mode (orange light). Without any other option, I turned the computer off and on again. This time the monitor stayed on (green light) but remained on the test screen, as though there was no signal from the computer.
My current theory is that the game I was playing put a strain on my aging video card and it gave up on me. I tried unplugging the monitor cables and plugging them back in with no luck. I tried the monitor with another PC and it worked fine.
Does anyone have any thoughts/advice on how to test a video card?
For info my specs are: Dell Inspiron 530S, 2.33 GHz dual core processor, 2Gb RAM, 256Mb ATI Radeon graphics/video card (I think), Windows Vista.
Any help appreciated!
Thanks,
Matt

Answer:Computer on but monitor not picking up signal

Sounds very much like you are having graphic card problems, although you say aging you do not actually post your model of graphics card. As for testing,I would imagine that you could try the card in another PC,other than that there really is not much else to try.
If you can remove your graphics card there may well be a make/model number on a sticker.
But it looks like a replacement GPU.

Hey everyone I could do with a little help here.

I have a XFX(ATI) Radeon HD 6670 Graphics Card and I have decided to use my spare monitor as a second, so I plugged it in to the DVI port with a DVI-VGA converter cable and (not to my surprise) the monitor isn't responding.

I have tested the monitor and both work fine in the VGA port on my graphics card, I have also researched the whole DVI-D/I thing and from what I can find my DVI port is DVI-I so in theory a simple converter should work.

Here is some info on my machine:
Motherboard - AsusM5A 78L-M LV v2
Graphics Card - XFX Radeon HD 6670 1GB

If you need anymore help please ask and thank you in advance.

Also for some reason the AMD Visions Control Center Program that comes with the drivers (and I did update them) IS showing the monitor plugged in but its still not responding.

Answer:XFX(ATI) Radeon HD 6670 not picking up Monitor

Welcome to the forum Nick Post your operating system.

Can I Also just confirm whether your using this as a secondary monitor or primary monitor and what happens when you connect it in each instance? If using as a primary using the vga to hdmi adapter it most probably a display driver problem or hardware incompatibility,if using as a secondary it's most likely a windows problem and attacking the problem will be slightly different.

I'm building a computer from scratch and need a decent monitor to go with it, something on the cheap side that is still pretty good, I've decided to go with an ASUS monitor as the have the most value for money IMO.

I've narrowed down the list to two monitors

The first has doesnt have inbuilt speakers whereas the second does.
First has a contrast of 50000:1 but the second has only 20000:1 - does this make much difference?
Other than those two points, the monitors are basically the same thing with different designs

first monitor: ASUS MS236H 23" Ultra Slim Widescreen LCD Monitor

second: ASUS VH236H 23" Widescreen Full HD LCD Monitor

the thing that i don't like about the first one is that, due to its ring stand (which looks amazing) its very unstable and easily falls over, also, due to the design of the stand the screen is constantly tilted back at about a 10 degree angle.

So, which should i get?

Answer:help picking a good monitor(gaming)

Sorry, no need to help anymore, ive decided.
Thanks anyway

Hello, I own a idepad y560 core i5 with ati mobility 5730 and intel hd switchable graphics. Around december I had to send my laptop in for repair because the ati mobility 5730 graphics stopped working, and in my repair report the techician stated that he had to replace the motherboard and that everything was working fine, which everything was when I tested out the laptop,(expect for the hdmi out I later on discovered) . I've been having this problem for a couple of months now, but haven't really tried to fix it because I've just been using a vga cable as an alternative. Yet, now I would much perfer to getting back to using a nice clean hdmi cable. I've tried to solve the problem on my own by doing what I know: reinstalling drivers, checking the external monitor settings, etc. Let my clarify that the vga output is working perfectly fine on both graphics cards, and I'm aware that the hdmi out needs to be on the high performance card setting to work. The strange thing is that when I was looking in catalyst control panel under the displays I noticed that the external display showed up, but nothing is showing up on screen. . If you need more information feel free to ask. Thank you!

Hi allI bought my Mum a new computer from Dell a few weeks ago and finally got around to going to see her to help setting it up. She has an Inspiron 530 core 2 quad core machine running Vista home premium SP1 32bit edition, has a 128mb ATI Radeon 2400 pro graphic card installed, and a Dell 1680x1050 E228WFP 22 inch monitor.I've tried connecting the new monitor to the graphic card with both the analog cable and an HDMI cable and neither work. The monitor runs its own test pattern OK and knows when it's been connected to a computer because it swithes from test patter to standby and tells me to move the mouse or hit a keyboard button - but it simply wont pick up a signal. The thing is, the new monitor works fine on my mums old computer! I've gone through the monitor menu and tried it in digital, analog and auto detect - nothing.I've run through the Dell online tech support procedure several times, tried updating the graphics drivers, etc, etc, and simply cant get it to work.My mum is currently using her old 19" monitor connected to the motherboard graphic output via an analog cable (it has no digital input) And yet the same analog output wont work on the new monitor. I've emailed Dell for help, but despite having spent several hours trying all sorts of things to fix this, I cant help feeling that maybe the graphics card is broken. Or am I missing something really simple that will resolve this issue? Anyone got any ideas?

Title says it, I'm hoping someone can help me with this choice I really need a monitor that will be good for being an extended desktop to my macbook, as well as a great gaming monitor (<6ms response), and still has speakers and tv tuner built in so I can use it for my TV. I need an all-rounder basically.

I don't want to spend anymore than £150, a 23 or 24 inch is perfect. I need to order the right adapter too to get the output to the monitor from my macbook, I placed an order for a mini displayport to hdmi but I might cancel it as it really depends on what monitor I get I need a dedicated hdmi port for the ps4, and as DVI doesn't transmit audio typically it would be preferable for it to have two hdmi slots and output from my macbook to the monitor that way and just change the source as required.

The following I narrowed it down to, but I keep seeing other monitors (most acers) and thinking oh but that one will be better or...

Hi everyone,

I have a new PC that I built a week ago, specs:

AMD 64 3000+
Abit AV8 3rd Eye
XFX 6800 standard
Truepower PSU 330W
Sata seagate Hdd
and Geil Value select ram 512MB: http://www.geil.com.tw/portal/product_400_tv_dc.php

My question is: Is it worth selling my current RAM and getting 1GB of decent corsair XL: http://www.corsairmicro.com/corsair/...ntsJUNE04.html

or shall I just buy another 512 of what I already have. Is what I have already good RAM or have i bought bad stuff?? Would there be a massive difference between the Value stuff, and the expensive stuff?

This is in regards to gaming, I cannot currently play half life 2 on high settings with a steady frame rate and no lag, and am thinking that it is my RAM which is the problem.

Thanks a lot.

Answer:Need help with picking RAM :S

I say sell you old memory and get 1gig of decent corsair memory.
The reason i say this is that the corsair has better timings which makes it faster than your old memory by quite a bit. Although if you by this ram it will only help a bit in HL2 and wont solve your problem in the end.
If you really want to play HL2 on high settings i say get a better graphics card and not memory because your memory doesn’t really make such a big difference in games as much as graphics card does.
Get a 6800GT or X800Pro to play HL2 on High settings.

As the thread says I need a new PSU. Mainly because I'm going to need the extra wattage and amperage for my 3d card. My psu right now generates 330w. While the video card minimun is 300w. I've been getting weird black shaped textures since I installed the video card. Anyway, I've been looking for a new psu. So, here's what I have under the hood
CPU:Intel Pentium 4 2.5ghz
Mobo:L4S5MG+- SIS651 chipset
Memory: 512 MB DDR PC2100
HDD1: Western Digital 160GB HD
HDD2: Western Digital 80GB HD
Video: Geforce 6600LE
PSU: Generic PSU 330w

Answer:Need a new PSU! Need help in picking one

Generic's not helping...

What characteristics do you want?
- Noise level
- Price
- Power quality (Voltage drops, efficiency, interference, etc.)

A 450w-500w should be good in your case.

There are pretty good ones that are pretty good for almost everything like the Antec TruePower. (~ $100)

If you look for a 0dB PSU there's Antec Phantom. (In fact, it's the same as a TruePower if we're not talking about noise level)

A pretty good overall quality PSU could be a Fortron / FSP. There's the $60 Blue Storm I've looked at recently. It's efficient, under 23dB of noise (Your HDD is noisier), 380w and cheaper than TruePower.

If you have a generic case and would like to improve cooling, there's the Antec Sonata II ($120) which is coming with a nice Antec SmartPower 2 450W power supply, rack-mounted drives, 120mm fan.

Just advices. It depends on how much you're ready to pay and what you want. Tell what I asked for first, it's going to be more helpful.

Hi all,
Did a quick search but couldnt find a definitive answer so here goes.

I am building a pc and i need a 500gig HD. I dont have a clue who makes a good one so here is where my question lies.

All i need is a middle of the road, good quality, fair priced HD. Nothing fancy but must be reliable.

I am buying a Asus P5Q-E MB if thats any help. I will have a 512mb ATI card, 8gig of DDR 2 dual channel, 650w PSU and a 64bit OS, cant decide on W7 or XP-Pro at the moment.
Hope thats enough info,

Any help is appreciated.

Regards,

Answer:Need help picking a HDD

Well you need a SATA HD. For what you listed you are looking at a 7200 RPM HD as they are the most common for desktop systems, and are very reasonably priced.

The Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA
drive is one of the best selling on Newegg and is one of your best bets for $56.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136073

Of course you could go to 1TB for $85
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136317

I usually go with Western Digital as I have had good luck with them. Seagate is pretty popular as well.

If you are taking votes for OS i would vote for Win7. MS is going to kill support for XP in a year or two (no more security updates etc. . .), so Win7 is your best bet. Also Win7 has better/less buggy 64 bit software support. I just upgraded from an XP machine to Win7 and definitely like it. XP was a great OS, but it is past its prime. It may take a bit of getting use to, but give Win 7 a shot.

Uninstalling Nero likely messed with the drivers . . have you reinstalled them? Right clifck on it, select properties and then reinstall driver . . they are likely still around and the system will find them.

ok i recently messed up my o/s and had to reinstall. so i went from windows 2k to having both 2k and xp pro to completely formating and putting xp home on it. well i was able to access my second hard drive with no problem until i completly formated the drive with my o/s and put xp home on here. now when i click to open the harddrive it tells me " hard drive not formatted would you like to formate?" I'm only keeping xp home on here until i find win 2k pro. but i have everything on my other hard drive anyway of saving it?

Answer:new os not picking up 2nd HD

In XP Home device manager go into the storage devices section and right click on the drive if seen there to choose the uninstall option. From there reboot the system. That should see a popup when XP Home prompts you with the new device found popup from the system tray. Then have Windows perform the search for drivers. It will then install it's own to see the drive now listed as a logical drive.

Looking to upgrade my PC to run games on high/ultra or medium within a budget of $400-$450 if possible

Processor: Intel Core i3 2100 @3.10GHz
RAM: 8GB (2x4GB) Dual-Channel DDR3 @665MHz
Hard Drive: 1.0TB
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Graphics: Zotac GT 430
Power Supply: 300W
Motherboard: Acer Aspire M3970
What're the steps I need to take in order to have a PC capable of running most games relatively well and new games releasing?

My thoughts were getting a new GPU, PSU and switching over to a better computer case would be the fix, then realized the CPU may hold the PC back since it's only dual core...
If I need to upgrade the CPU that pretty much cuts my budget in half since Intel is so damn expensive, what do you guys think would be my best option or route to go?

Thanks for any help.

Answer:Help picking out a CPU

Why bother upgrading a basic Acer? This is something many people waste their money, time, and effort on way to often on when they really should sell the system as is and buy/build a proper gaming system. Even after you upgrade the graphics card, power supply, processor, and case, you will still be left with a low quality Acer motherboard. Save your money, then sell this PC as a whole and do it right. But that's simply my opinion.

By far the biggest thing holding you back is the graphics card, it's simply not a gaming graphics card. For the graphics card to work you will need a better power supply. You could live with the case and processor, the processor isn't that bad.

Question: Not picking up HDD

For some reason, my comp will no longer detect my second hardrive. One day, it just ugh, stopped.

I have no clue where to go from here, everything is connected internally etc, I'm not too good with the technical stuff, so if anyone does have a solution, could it please be explained as simply as possible?

Thanks.

Answer:Not picking up HDD

There is a chance that the hard drive is simply no longer functioning. I have seen this many times, but usually it is the main hard drive so the system just stops booting. If there is data on the drive that you *need* you should take it to a professional. I don't recommend inexperienced users start taking things apart.

They worked fine yesterday. Today they are not showing up. I uninstalled the drivers and restarted the PC and drivers were back but the had ! next to them. I opened it up reseated all plugs and still no go. I just remember I uninstalled Nero 6 yesterday maybe that threw out a necessary file.

This fixed it:

1. Click on START button, the click on RUN
2. Enter REGEDIT and press enter
3. When REGEDIT starts, open up the following folders
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
Class
{4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
4. After clicking on {4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} you should see two settings on the right-hand side:
"Upperfilters"
"Lowerfilters"
Click on each of them, press DELETE and click YES.

Then close REGEDIT, shutdown & restart your PC

Ordering a Dell for my son and myself-- we're enthusiastic but not gone-to-hell gamers.

Question-- Dell offers various P4 processor speeds: 2.0, 2.26, 2.4, and 2.53 (the last 3 have a higher system bus speed). Is more always significantly better? Does faster buy greater system longevity? Is the higher bus speed alone worth pricing up for?

Considering the 2.26Ghz just because its the first with a higher bus and its in the middle.

Laptop or desktop... Would like to run games without any lag. Somewhere near $500, I don't know much about computers, so please. bare with me.

Answer:Need help picking gaming pc

With your budget, laptops are out. The laptops on the market that can run games are double that or more, and won't last you nearly as long. You can get a bit more computer for the money if you are willing to build your own, but that will take you a lot of time and research.

What kinds of games do you want to play? Old ones or current ones?

It'll need to have an AMD AM3 socket and support 1333MHZ (PC3-10600) at the very least.

Although my CD-RW DOES pick up store-bought CD's, it now no longer picks up rewriteable C.D.'s. I initiated PC Doctor. I was instructed to insert a rewriteable C.D. I did. After about 10 minutes, PC Doctor advised me that it was NOT a rewriteable C.D.

Do I need to change my CD settings? If so, how do I go about that?

I put a CD cleaning CD into my player and the rewriteables STILL aren't being picked up.

Answer:CD-RW not picking up rewriteable CD's

This can be a syptom of a failing laser in the drive.

Hello all!I am building a new computer and I haven't really been keeping up with the new hardware since I built my current one about 5 years ago. The three main things I am worried about with this computer is that is a bit more future-proof, I don't have any parts that bottleneck or are overkill, and that it is relatively quiet. Here is my current (very rough) draft of parts:CPU - Intel Core i5 7600kCPU Cooler - CM Hyper 212 EVOMotherboard - MSI Z720-A Pro LGA 1151RAM - Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-300GPU - Asus GeForce GTX 1070 8GBPower Supply - Seasonic EVO Edition 620WHere is a link to the list : https://pcpartpicker.com/list/DpdtvVThings to note:-I only really play games and don't do any editing or things like that-I play at 1080p max, definitely not 4K and I just learned that 1440p is a thing-I have a hdd on this computer that I would like to keep, I'm just really confused on if I would need to buy windows 10 again in order to put it on an ssd and then delete it off of this hdd...?-I have no idea what to do about the case, motherboard, or power supply because there are just so many out there-I kinda want it to all look nice and cohesive with colors and all that but I don't need anything with flashing RBG lights or remote-control nonsense-How big would the ssd have to be if I just wanted it to be the OS and maybe a few games? In conclusion, the amount of parts to pick from is really starting to get to me. Answer:Must Be Infected, But Nothing's Picking It Up

Hello Caliber Technology,Welcome to Bleeping Computer First you should know that you're actually doing more harm than good by running 2 Anti Virus programs. (McAfee and Avast!) When you do this both programs compete for resources, and the end result is neither does it's best and can cause system instability. I recommend that you choose the one you want to keep, update it, disable or uninstall the other one, and use it as an on demand only scan occasionally.I need for you to go offline completely and disable ALL your protective programs ( TeaTimer, TrojanHunter, AntiVirus, everything) after you download ComboFix, but before you run it. Sometimes those programs interfere with it, and we don't want that! This tool is not a toy. If used the wrong way you could trash your computer. Please use only under direction of a Helper. If you decide to do so anyway, please do not blame me or ComboFix.1. Download this file - combofix.exe http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply please, along with a new HijackThis log.Note:Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall. Thanks, tea

Hi folks. I picked up win32.agent.pz and win32.zbot over the weekend using a hotel wirelss in France. Dell Vostro, AVG free, AdAware and Spybot. XP Pro SP3.Spybot picked up 3 entries of agent and 5 of zbot. Did I want to remove - yes. BUT it seems to leave bits on the registry. This is getting all too complicate for me so rang Dell and the suggestion was "re-install" which is how I will spend my evening. AVG did pick them up and Help/Support is only with paid versions and although I can create an account is doesn't do anything. Anyone receommend a better AV than AVG?At present am having to completely reinstall as system started locking at the Welcome screen!Any other help or advice is welcome too. Use A2free click here to clear your machine of infections. The free version runs when you tell it to, however the pay version runs in the background all the time.Personally I use a compnay called 'Stop-Sign', and have done a few years with no problems. It is a pay site, but at the end of the day, you pay for your Computer , software, and Internet connection. Is this any different. You only get what you pay for.Terry

PLEASE HELP
My computer is a Dell laptop and uses Windows 7. A while ago, I noticed that whenever it is on, it makes a mumbling sound, like very soft voices. At different times the sound is louder, enough that I can make out words, and it appears to be TV or a talk show, even with advertisements. It doesn't matter what speakers or volume I have my computer at, the sound is not affected. If I play something like a youtube vid or a DVD, there is no effect on the noise, I have to turn the volume up to drown it out. My computer does not show it is connected to any other wireless network but my own. I have never had cable, however my house does have a dish satellite on it from previous residents. It is noticeable with headphones, but it may play without headphones lower than I can hear. I do not know if this is a problem with my computer or network, and suspect there is a simple solution, but it is beyond my comprehension. Please help?

Answer:Computer is picking up TV?

hello AVI

While minds better then mine come to your aid here know this-

Almost any device with a speaker placed in a high enough voltage electro magnetic field that is also a voice signal can be over loaded by that voice signal and be heard, some times real load.

once in a parking lot, i was listening to a CD in my SUV, suddenly huge loud voice guy is on my CD player talking about baby food, as i look in rear view i see this small truck with a huge pigtail CB (shortwave?) radio antenna on truck roof and guy in front seat is hanging up a CB mike. long to short this guy had a huge against the law high power/wattage CB rig in truck, this was some illegal hobby of his. he said it could even overwhelm a cell phone.
make sure your sat dish is not powered to something,
like your 120 line (US), as well a electrician could not hurt as well.

Also you may be getting a local talk am station on computer-its possible

I don't have the brains god gave a monkey wrench but think
this video shows good example of what is happening to you.
PS it seems the secret to making this thing is a extra non light emitting polarization diode which make all voltage in the phone signal move towards the led.

Hi

I bought a wireless mouse and keyboard that have fallen short in the whole "durable battery" aspect.
I don't know if its because i bought a refurbished version of them, but right now i think i need better batteries, but i don't know how to pick the best one.

I'm looking for the best AA rechargeable battery for my k800 keyboard, i don't mind spending a little for those. Can i pick a lithium one? Or will it not work ?

Thanks,

I would suggest some NiMH (Nickel-Metal Hydride) rechargeable batteries, plus a charger.

I've gotten a 30" dell monitor (2560x1600)from my parents as an early chirstmas present (I AM SO HAPPY ) and now i think i have to get a pc that can use it. i can spend up to 1500 pounds on this build. This is what i would like from my pc:

-be able to run most new games at more than 30 FPS
-be rock stable, i mean nearly 24/7
-be no more than 1500
-i would also like a good high end sound card because i do sound edit alot
-and have future expandability for 2,3,4-way sli or crossfire (what ever ye chose)
-last me a good long time

Hi

I basically put my PC into a new case. Problem is my DVD player won't pick up anything. Or rather no matter what the CD is that I put in - it reads them as 1 audio track and then Winamp launches!!

The only other Symptom is that when playing video clips on the HD it takes a little longer for MS media player to play them. ie it hangs a little!

Any ideas?

Thanks

I trust HP more than I do Acer. The i3 is weaker processing power than the i5With these systems you would get a better quality HP Core i3 or a lower quality Acer Core i5  For the fact that you are not gaming the Core i3 should be good for 3 to 5 years of use and possibly longer. I also use audio software and generally they dont need a powerful system to function. The only difference in say an older system running one of my audio editing/mixing/conversion programs and a newer system is that the newer system would process it faster into an MP3 while the older computer would take longer to process to create the MP3 file.If you were doing video editing and encoding then you would definitely want more processing power than a Core i3 probably. This is not to say that the Core i 3 cant handle it, since I know for a fact that it can because I have edited and encoded video files on much older processors, it is pretty much the same as the audio projects where the more powerful the CPU the faster it is to complete creation of an encoded end product file from a project etc.

ANYONE HAVE THE NETGEAR Wireless USB adapter, WG121?
It seems to work better than the Linksys one, WUSB54G.
My complex provides wireless internet around the property. I've picked up more access points in my complex with the Netgear and actually had a slight temporary signal with it for a while. I got NADA with the Linksys unit.
What drove me insane was that, using the Netgear, I finally placed the adapter to where I picked up an access point without WEP and got above 90% signal rate showing in the Utility. BUT, it never connected to it. I tried to save the profile and manually connect over and over, but the Utility kept scanning all the channels. I'm dying to get this to work and are there any tricks? What am I missing?

I am currently in the process of trying to find a new CPU as my celeron busted mysteriously (I had an unstable overclock and I'll leave the rest to your imagination...think black hole in the cpu). I originally thought it was a fan failure and it overheated. I didn't like the celeron anyway. Right now I am eyeing a few things on Newegg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...1707443+1050706985&Submit=ENE&SubCategory=343

I have been told that the Northwood is a better deal. The only problem though is that I am a little hesitant to overclock the cpu because this budget was given to me as a gift, and nothing says "I blew your money, literally" more than another cpu lost to overclocking. Obviously you can see that the mobo is socket 478, and blah, blah, blah. Mobo is listed in my profile and any input would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: The budget is $100.00. I don't want to have to go over this, as my classes come first over my computers.

Next year I am going To college to work with computers. They advised to get a pretty powerful PC with an I5 or I7. Because It needs to run 5 or more VM (windows servers) at the same Time. programming comes in place too. What laptop do I need? And does It make a lot difference between an I5 or I7. Also it needs to have a pretty powerful GPU too. Thank you

Answer:Help with picking new laptop

I have an Alienware 18 and I run VM's but not more than 1 at a time. The thing is on my Alienware I have 3 drives a 1 TB SSD, a 1 TB HD and a 750 GB HD. I would recommend you get a machine with as much ram as you can. Their are some new gaming machines with 64 GB of ram. When your running VM's you have to share RAM. When you running multiple it requires eeven more RAM. I have 16GB and the more I allocate to the VM the faster if runs. I ran the WIndows 10 Technical preview in it and I used 8 GB of ram.
Here is the only one at Newegg with 64 GB. Lenovo also has a new laptop with 64 GB of ram. OOps it won't be released unti 12/31/2015. Computer Systems, Laptops / Notebooks, Gaming Laptops, 64 GB - Newegg.com

sony, hp, toshiba...ect...

anyways what is the all out best computer on the market right now so far the sony vaio rb was the nicest i found. is there any thing better? I want some thing with at least a 1gig on the ram. (and is sure not to have problems)

thanks

Answer:Need Help Picking Out A Computer.

Well, any computer, even from a well-known company, can have problems. Just a few clarifying questions:
1. Are you planning to use your current monitor?
2. What sort of things are you going to be doing on the computer? High graphics gaming or media manipulation, for example, will more or less dictate the kind of graphics card to look for. If you tell us how you use your computer, we can give better advice.
3. Have you considered building your OWN computer?

John

seems like with one of the most recent updates to FF i've been getting a lot of IDM popups looking to download stuff. my wife was on walmart not too long ago and about 12 IDM popups showed up

this one has hit the most:

thoughts?

Answer:so IDM seems to be picking up a lot of stuff here lately

That's the h.264 plugin for Firefox. It's a legit download, and the browser is prompted to get it automatically if Firefox tries to play an h.264 video without the plugin installed.

Maybe I don't understand your question correctly?

I currently have a Linksys E2000. I'll be giving it to a friend who is moving to a new apartment. I want to replace it with something else.

I like the idea of DD-WRT and would like something that is well-supported. The Buffalo routers like the WHR-HP-G300n looks like a nice unit but there are a lot of very negative reviews on the unit. Also doesn't have gigabit, which is kind of a necessity.

The Asus routers look good. Thinking about maybe the N16 but I don't need the USB and print server nonsense.

I'm also looking at the Netgear WNR3500L.

I have a 15/1 cable connection with up to 3-4 wireless clients and another 4-5 wired (I have a separate gigabit switch so number of ports isn't an issue).

I'd like to spend no more than $80.

Any suggestions?

Hey, I've recently sold my MacBook Pro 2009 and am now looking for my next laptop. I've been searching for a while but there are so many to choice from.
The main features I want the laptop to include are:
Decent ability with working with music (I produce music in Fl studio and my old mac just couldn't keep up)
Can handle gaming okay
Nice build quality (not that cheap tacky plastic stuff)
Backlit keyboard, whilst not completely needed it's always been a nice feature I like to have so I can work in crappy lit places
No screen size less than 15.6"
Portable :P
And the last I thought I should mention is my budget.
I have around £500-600 / $780- $930 to spend and I also don't mind buying a used laptop
Thanks in advance,
Ryan

Hi,

Have been looking at a friends pc which was infested with spyware and viruses and couldn't connect to internet (although was picking up an IP on the network.) Ran Nod32, Spybot & SmitfraudFix which removed various items but could still not get web pages up (unless i went into safe mode). I then ran Combofix in safe mode and now the PC is not even picking up an IP address! Tried reinstalling the network card driver but to no avail.

[UPDATE] - I can pick up an IP if I put the details in manually, just not via DHCP. Even though I have an IP I still cannot get web pages up, either in normal or safe mode.

Heres the log, you help is much appreciated.

I'm working on a new computer, but don't really know much about motherboards, so I need help picking one and a psu to go with it. I don't have a specific price limit yet, so I'm just trying to build something around $1000. I'd like some guidelines to picking a motherboard (already know what PCIEx16 is, in case someone thought I was that clueless), or some specific recommendations. Ask if you need more specifics.

Answer:Help with picking a motherboard

How i upgraded

http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=014945&cid=170.45
This was $599.99 Canadian.
I reinstalled my SATA HD with XP installed, and my DVD-ROM and Audigy 4from my current System.
I bought and added a ATI X1650 PCIX x 16 - 512-$120.00
It will depend on what you can transfer from your current system.
This is a good way to get a mbd and cpu profesionally installed.
My total cost was 600 + 120 = $ 720.00.
I will spend another $50 or so for a new KBD,and Floppy drive.
Of course this doesn't include the monitor i already had.
VisionQuest LCD 22 " wide screen DVID-D with HDCP (Same Store)$ 429.00
650 + 429 =$1079.00
But i don't know where you live to shop for this method.
Im in Mississauga,Ontario.

I'm currently thinking of picking up a GTX 970 for my 500-406a, I believe the motherboard will hold the card in the PCI Express x16, am I correct in saying this?  I also plan on upgrading the PSU to a Corsair VS550 as the current one is not enough for the 970. Now I guess what my real question is, will the stock HP Pavilion case be able to fit the card? If any of you have a minute to help me out, I would really appreciate it.

My dad recently gave me his dell pc, I can tell you some specs. But I think it would be best if there were some kind of program that could detect my hardware?

Basically, I'm trying to put on a GeForce vid card that the mobo doesn't support(hardware doesn't fit). So obviously I need a new motherboard, that will support the card and all the other hardware.

If anyone knows the program to detect my hardware, please post it. Then my next step is to find the ideal mobo on newegg.com

thank you.

not sure where to put this thread, but I was hoping to find some recommendations for a laptop new laptop purchase.

Of course, if this is a problem, I'll never do this again.

I need a new laptop for college. I have a $500 limit. I don't mind a laptop with windows 8, but I'd prefer 7 if at all possible.

I know I want at least a 2.0 ghz quad core proc, 6 gigs of ram. And I now I don't want a chrome book, but besides that, I'm completely up in the air.

Answer:Could use some help picking out a laptop

you have a large choice and noone will be able to give you a specific model

I would suugest you look for an i3 CPU
or at least compare cpus using a benchmark site like
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php
gives the chance to compare CPUs
then make sure it has USB3 on the device

For windows 7 - you will be limited to the more expensive models, But Dell have these models available
also I know in the UK Fujitsu and Toshiba also provide new W7 laptops

Next decide on the screen size you want - then just have a look and find a few models - you can then post here and perhaps get views on the difference between the laptops you are thinking of

I'm helping a family I know pick out a low end computer to fit their budget and am considering a Dell, but I'd like to build one for them if I could save them some money. Could anyone recommend parts to match the specs of the system I list below. I'm not particularly good at picking out low end parts that aren't going to fail after two weeks.

Specs of the Dell:

PROCESSOR AMD Athlon? 64 3200+
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows® XP Home Edition
MEMORY 512MB Single Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz - 1DIMM
HARD DRIVE 80GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache?
OPTICAL DRIVE 48X CD-RW/ DVD Combo Drive
VIDEO CARD NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE Integrated Graphics GPU
SOUND Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio
KEYBOARD & MOUSE Dell USB Keyboard and Dell 2-button Scroll Mouse
FLOPPY & MEDIA READER No Floppy Drive Included
MODEM 56K PCI Data Fax Modem

Total cost: US$409

The folks at Dell want $75 for another 512 mb stick of RAM so if I were to buy the Dell I'd buy another stick online to go up to 1GB

So can you help me (if possible) pick out either a better performing system for the same price, or a equivalent system for a lower price?

Thanks in advance.

Or you could just send them your old system jk

Hey folks,

I recently just got a new TV and want to run audio over my HDMI connection from my video card to my TV. Here is the video card I have:

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

Now, inside the box came a SPDIF wire. I understand that with Nvidia cards, you have to use this cable to connect it to your soundcard to get audio. My motherboard's onboard audio isn't compatible with the wire.

The wire itself has 2 ends, along with a small white power connector. One end is a 2 pin connector and the other is 4 pins (1 ground, 1 empty, and 2 spdif).

Does anyone know of a good decent soundcard that will take a connection from a 2pin SPDIF wire?

Thanks a lot!

-Bill

Answer:Picking out a soundcard

Why not just get a Video card that has the audio for the HDMI built into the Video card. That eliminates any additional cabling, etc. I have an ATI Radeon HD4850 Video card and it has audio on the video card for the HDMI output.

Question: picking hot spots

I am using Xfinity hotspots in a building. I get about 3-4 xfinity hot spots. Windows 7 picks out 1 of those 4 automatically, I believe the strongest signal. Unfortunately, that signal no longer gives me internet access. The less strong xfinity hot spots do allow internet access.

How can I over-ride how Windows 7 automatically picks which 1? all I have is an external wifi adapter with an antenna. No modem.

Is there any software tool (or hardware, like a router?) that would give me the ability to pick within xfinity hot spots? Btw, I have no modem.

Thanks.

Some time ago I posted concerning a system that was having problems booting. Following advice I received here, I checked the motherboard to find that many of my capicitors were swollen.

Before posting here, I suspected my power supply. It was about 7 years old. I goofed and ended up with one of those ATX 12V supplies with the extra connector. The kids had quickly destroyed the box and trashed the receipt.....

Recently a co-worker gave me a $40 Best buy gift card as a thank you. I picked up 512 megs of PC2700 (PNY). I then headed down to Fry's for a ECS N2U400. They were out.... Good thing, as I have heard a few bad things about that board.

So, to make a long story short; what do you recommend? I'm looking for a stable board that will accept my 200 FSB Athlon 1.1 gig and my PC2700. It needs to be a board that will accept the new power supply. AGP 4x is fine, but I would like USB 2.0.

And I'd like to keep the price around $100 or so.

I've been researching for a few days but don't really have time--Four kids

Thanks for any help.

Hey guys...I tried searching but sometimes your questions get so complicated, you just don't know what/how to search for something...I'm building a computer for the company I work for. We're a small business and this computer would be for inventory management. In the past, we've just purchased from Best Buy, but I figured if I built one, it'd be more "bang" for the same "buck". Just need some professional opinions.

First off, I started looking at i3 and i5 processors because they were around the price range we were looking at. Then I stumbled upon the Phenom II X6 1055T for only $200. I figured Six-freaking-cores would last us forever and thought this was the way to go. But after reading the article on this website, it seems like it was out performed by even the i5, when I assumed it would compete with the i7. So here's the question; would the i5 750 be faster? In the future? Would the Phenom II be better overclocked? Would THIS be a decent motherboard if I went with the AMD?

Also, if anybody has an easy way of picking a PSU, I would love you to death. I've always considered myself somewhat tech savvy, but trying to figure out power consumption has made me with otherwise. I can't even find how much power the motherboard uses!

Thanks guys. I appreciate any and all help.

Answer:Picking my CPU - i5 vs. Phenom II

Hi, could you just give use more info about your computer?
The X6 destroys the i5 in some areas...but not very many.

Make sure to include budget (and if you want a monitor, os, peripherals...), and intended use. i5 and X6 is a really close battle.

Motherboard hardly takes any power, we'll figure out a powersupply after we set some other components.

For the last five years I have had Microsoft's ISA Server 2004 in place but since I have recently setup a Linux box with squid for web caching plan to change it up abit. I have new hardware coming in for Windows Server 2008 R2 plan to replace Windows Server 2003 and Exchange 2003 with Exchange server 2010. Im looking for a good router.

I'm not to familiar with Cisco's offering yet but the service rep on cisco's site helped me narrow it down abit. The connection is just a dsl line. Also this is just for personal use at home with a couple of servers and too many comps I don't really want to deploy a custom setup I would rather just buy something from cisco.

Hello, I am sure this is an easy fix, but here it goes

My mother got a used laptop (from family) and didn;'t have internet at the house, when I hooked it up I noticed that the laptop was not seeing any networks and wasn't connected while hardwired. Turns out it was the cable, but the no network is still an issue. I am sure it is most likely a setting, but thought i'd ask before she pays.

I did notice, however, when I was there and did ipconfig, nothing came up. Like I said, she never had internet before, but it seems like there is something that is not allowing it to connect to this new network. It is a dell laptop 32 bit Vista. I can do a clean install but if there aree any suggestions as to why the computer wold act as if it cannot find the internet that's be great. Also, while trying to connect via hotspot, it woulsnt show up either. It said no connections available. Said the same when hard wired.

Answer:Not picking up network at all

Hi mike6623,

Please share details of the exact system model in use. Also capture following details and share the findings:

- Check the status of Wireless and Ethernet devices in 'Device Manager': Click Open Device Manager and find steps to access 'Device Manager'. Locate and expand the category 'Network Adapters'. Capture status of all devices listed underneath this section. Also check if any device is listed with an exclamation/question mark besides it. Would request you to capture a screenshot of this portion and share it with us.

- Also browse through the complete list of all devices listed on this page to see the ones that have a mark besides them. Look for a category called 'Other Devices'. If seen, expand it and capture details of all devices listed underneath. Also capture and share a screenshot of this portion.

- Click 'Start icon' and type 'ncpa.cpl' (without quotations) in the 'Search box'; tap 'Enter' to access the 'Network connections'. Capture and share details of all connections listed on this page.

This information is likely to give some conclusive information about the current status of network cards installed on the unit. Do reply with these findings. I will take it forward from there.

i really want to trade in my phenom 2 x4 3.4ghz black for an i7, heres the i7 im looking at Newegg.com - Intel Core i7-960 Bloomfield 3.2GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80601960 i would be looking at a 2600k sandy bridge however, i would like to go with this mobo Sapphire Technology Web Site and plan on going 24gb of ram, any suggestions, am i really downgrading by dropping to 3.2ghz? if not, how much of an improvement do u think i can see from this...

Answer:help picking out a processor

You can not really compare Core frequency of a i7 vs Phenom to get a ideal picture.
They work differently. But No, you will not downgrade.
The core i7 at 3.2 will be faster than a Phenom at 3.4.

Im in the process of buildiong a new machine myself.

It would seem if you already have a 1366 CPU, SB is not that big of a upgrade to justify the cost, for the most part.

If upgrading from something lower than 1366, SB is the best way to go.

The x6 on 1366 does have an advantage in ceratin areas. Such as highly threaded apps, but only if you use those apps alot to justify it. (And its expensive)
But for Quads in general, & everything else you may use it for, SB is just faster, and still can can even hold its own against the x6.

But if building new, I would just build Sandy Bridge TBH.
It will cost about the same, and perform better.

Either way you go though, should be a upgrade.

PC Brand: First thing i need to know which brand is considered to be good: Dell, HP and so on.

Motherboard: Which motherboard should the pc have? i've heard asus boards are good, is that true? Also, somebody told me that motherboard should be compatible with the video card. I'm planning on getting an nvidia geforce card, does that mean i should get an nvidia made motherboard?

Processor:which processor to get AMD Athlon XP, Intel? How many mhz?

Memory: how much memory should a gaming pc have?

Hard Drive: i need advice on decent hardrive manufacturers and size

CD,DVD-ROM\burner: what kind of speed should these have?

I guess this covers the basics.

One final question: I was told that one could get a customized pc, the so called bare-bones pc, and outfit it with all the components one needs. Is this option better than buying a pc with all the parts already in?

If anyone knows the answers, please help!

Hello and welcome to Techspot!

I guess the first question to ask is, are you interested in trying to build this system yourself? Building a computer is easier than ever, but it really depends on what type of person you are. Are you a geek? I mean that in the most polite way possible of course.

Some people shouldn't consider building a computer, as they just don't have the "tech" brain. Not an insult at all, they are better at other things instead. But if you are the type who typically has no problems at all installing a VCR, then you can probably build your own computer. The manuals that come with the parts are for the most part very well written, and provided you have the patience to follow the (very detailed and lengthy) instructions, you can do it.

I am asking because it is unclear in your post. You are asking two different questions. First you ask about Dell, HP etc.,?then you ask about specific part makers. If you get a Dell (for example) you do not get to choose the maker of the parts. You use Dell proprietary parts, and they are all preinstalled. It has it's advantages and disadvantages. For those who are not interested in building their computer or upgrading for that matter, Dell and HP are a good choice. All you have to do is turn it on.

If you build your own however, then you get to know it's guts, intimately. If something goes wrong, you have a good sense on how to fix it. If you want to upgrade, you can (provided you select th... Read more

I have a

macbook pro uni 2.66
compal
gigabyte x48 DQ6 motherboard, Home Built Computer
apple 3GS iphone
PS3

I believe all have N compatible network specs
the compal has a switch for the 2.4 -5

and the gigabyte X48 DQ6 MB should also I believe ! the rest for sure is N

I got rid of verizon basic DSL and got roadrunner cable for the same price for a year with better speed so now I'm looking to get a router and was interested in the Linksys WRT610N

I was thinking about buying it but I'm not sure if this is the router for me, I keep the PS3 next to the Home built Gigabyte X48 DQ6 both are wired then I have the 2 laptops in other rooms and of course the iphone which isn't a big deal

One more thing to mention is these devices are running in other rooms at the same time because we don't stay in the same room using the internet so I need speed for a notebook in 1 room and at the same time I also need a speed for either the PS3 and computer in the other room going at the same time

So now what would be and great router for this set-up ?

Thanks In Advance !

Question: Picking a switch

What should I be looking for in a switch if I want to feed ~15 computers with data from a single server? I think I'm going to get a 24-port one for future expandibility, but I'm not really familiar with all the IT lingo.
(i.e. GBIC ports, SFP ports, uplink ports, managed/unmanaged, Layer 2/Layer 3, etc.)
I know for sure that I want a gigabit connection b/w the server and the switch and at least 100 mbit to each of the computers.
Does the server's gigabit connection just plug into one of the normal ports or am I supposed to use an uplink port?

Is this a good one? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833124131

Thanks for any help.

Answer:Picking a switch

That's an unmanaged switch. The SRW2024 is more interesting -- it's a "smart" / Web-managed switch, with some additional features should you decide to use them down the road -- for not much more money --.

Hey,

Before I start saying; this computer went through numerous of BSOD's when I went from Vista to XP, during the last day on XP, the computer kept starting up, BEFORE going into windows, Blue Screen'd, and restarts, and goes into a constant loop, I couldn't even get into Safe Mode.

Almost did the same thing today, in the middle of start up, my comp went BSOD, I was getting some water when I heard my computer restarting (kind of hard not to hear 'click' and the three fans in your computer slowing down and speeding up)

Anywho, I couldn't get the error code, even if I wanted to. My comp's an eMachines t5224, thus I can't see any BSoD's, even if my life dependent on it.

I provided the .dmp file, since I can't get windbg to read it. Need any other info, say so.

My comp has a Intel Pentium D 820 (64-Bit on a 32-Bit operating system)
eVGA GeForce 8600 GT (OC'd too) (latest drivers also)
1GB RAM
Antec 300 Watt PSU
Windows Vista Home Premium (with SP1, downloaded later)x86

Well long story short, my uncle built me a computer with the specs as such> Motherboard - ASUS A8V-VM SE> Processor - AMD 4200 X2 Dual Core> Video Card - PNY Nvidia 7300GT> Memory - 1GB PQI PC3200 Turbo MemoryI went ahead and bought a 9600 GT to replace the video card, and another gb of ram to add to the 1 stick of 1gb ram. The problem is, apparently this motherboard throttles back the power once the CPU gets too hot, and apparently the temp is set pretty low so it makes it impossible to play any game from about 2000 onward without some major lag.So, I was hoping somebody could help me pick out a new motherboard that will be compatible with the parts I've listed. I'm looking for something under $100 is possible (I'm already in the hole from buying the new parts)Also, I've installed a lot of parts in my own computer before so I'm pretty good at that kind of stuff, but I've never completely replaced a motherboard before, so any tips, or websites that'll help me out would be appreciated.ThanksLet me know if you need any more information because I could find it for you.

Answer:Help picking out a new motherboard.

Here's a picture of my computer specs if that helps.http://i317.photobucket.com/albums/mm368/Johnny_Tremane/Computer.jpgI'd be willing to settle for 240 pin memory if that's all I can get, but since I already have all this extra ram, a 184 pin would be nice.

I have posted up millions of threads over millions of websites for a couple years now. And I finally have some cash to afford one card. I have two choices. A 3D Fuzion Geforce FX 5500 256Mb PCI or a JATON 3DForce 5700LE 128Mb PCI Card. Now, I have read that the JATON can play Battlefield 2. I'm not exacly sure about the 3D Fuzion but I know that it may be somewhat better. I know 256Mb is not always better than 128, which doesn't concern me. Neither does that none of them play ANY game that well. But, I seriously need an educated answer to my problems. My computer is outfitted with a P4 2.8 Ghz CPU, 1gb of DDR 333 RAM, and a 160 GB HD. Please Help me! Here is the Newegg website for the JATON http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814139166
and here is a random website for the 3D Fuzion
http://www.techforless.com/cgi-bin/tech4less/3DFR55256P?mv_pc=froogle

P.S. PRICING doesn't matter and I do not have an AGP or PCI-Express slot, so dont convince me to upgrade to those either. THANKS!!!

Answer:Help Picking THE Right PCI Card For Me

Out of those two, the 5700LE. The bad thing is that it has 64 bit memory and the FX5500 has 128 bit.

In order to play reasonably BF2, you`ll have to run it at lowest settings. 64 bit memory really cripples the card :unch: :unch: :unch:

Hi, I'm building a computer and the first thing i'm picking is the CPU.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Intel-Pen...0?pt=UK_Motherboards_CPUs&hash=item1c1d6d4758 : This is the one I had in mind, I know it has a good speed and dual core but the bus speed is only 800mhz. Will that make the speed suffer or will it be okay with that bus speed? I just want to pick out the best CPU I can afford and make it worth it.

Thanks.

Me and my wife live in Middle TN and plan to mix both shopping online and in stores to get the best option for us. We have done much looking so far and have come up with a few definite and a few wants. We have a baby on the way and need to downsize our computer desktop space so that's the reason were moving to a laptop.

Definite:
Price range of 600-800
-Windows 7 (sorry no apples)
-15"-16.9" screen
-Leaning towards 6GB can be 8 But only if its in the price range
-i5 or better processor (or comparable AMD i have no loyalty to anyone but my wallet)
-processor needs to be a quad core
-It needs dedicated graphics, but I have no idea what discrete means when in reference to it. We would only play free2play games with high end specs such as League of Legends, Dota 2, and then possibly two more extensive will be Star Wars the Old Republic, and Diablo 3. (I hope that's some good examples)
-Battery life needs to be 4 hours at least.
-Need this to last for Mediocre gaming for at least 3 years, we're hoping for 6 but I do understand its a laptop and that won't happen in my price range
-Needs an HDMI output

Wants
-I would like to play on High settings for the games but budget is more important
-HD does not need to be huge, we have a 1TB external for movies music and pictures, I would dare to say that even 500GB is OK, smaller wouldn't be to harsh either
-All the quick start-up options are not necessary, we don't have a small business or need to present anything on the go
-DvD... Read more

Answer:Picking a Laptop (Like so many others)

Nothing new around here, is there... :P

I'd actually get the Acer. I have one slightly lower than yours. An AS5750-6589

AS5750-6589 | Product Model

Mine is an i3, but you should get the same but better performance out of the i5. I rather like it because of its lightness at 15.6" and also that it can stay cool under a full load. I stress tested it for 3 hours. It never went above 70C.

I would personally stay away from HP. I repaired a lot of them in the past. They are a bear to fix.

I'd go with that Toshiba as well. But Toshiba is nutorious for heating up. From what I know.

Cost depends on the store. Depends how many they have, how much in bulk they bought, etc. Each store is different. That is why you look many places for the right price.

I want to install a new video card on my computer. I picked out one that needs a PCI-e port and I have a AGP port. So, I need a new motherboard. I don't know anything about how to pick the right one. The one installed now is a VIA and the model number is P4X266-8233. The only thing that I do know is that I need one that is compatible with a Pentium 4 processor.

Thanks in advance for the help...and let me know if you need anymore specs on my machine.

Hello there

so for course related reasons, I was to upgrade my windows 7 premium to Windows 10. Of course as windows 7 doesn't have the option to mount windows 10 I had to use a USB/DVD installer tool. Now the installation to my windows failed and so it restored windows 7 "as it was before the installation". There is only one problem with that however as now USB ports are not picking up on anything I plug into them.I have tried to update my drivers and still nothing. anyone had that problem and is able to fix it?

Cheers
RJ

Answer:USB ports are not picking up anything

Hi, go to start, search and type:- devmgmt.msc press enter, device manager will open. Expand "Universal serial bus controllers" then right click on "USB root hub" select properties, then under power management uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" do this for all hubs, restart computer, let us know how you get on.

I am trying to help my mom find a laptop that she will use for browsing the internet, reading email, and downloading pictures/videos. She is not looking for a gaming rig but she wants a reliable computer that will last her a while.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Answer:Help picking a laptop under $400

Truly, $400 is a little steep, but I found a good deal here:

Newegg.com - Acer Aspire AS5733-6426 Notebook Intel Core i3 380M(2.53GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory DDR3 1066 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi Intel HD Graphics

It is just a slighter model than what I have. It is very nice for your needs.

I'd just go to newegg and look at the desktop graphics cards, apply an agp filter, and find a cheap one with good reviews that will handle whatever graphics needs your parents require.
