Mouse problems (need to disable trackpoint mouse)

Question: Mouse problems (need to disable trackpoint mouse)

My laptop uses a track point mouse, which is a red covred plastic thing in the middle of my keyboard on my laptop. I am using an IBM thinkpad 600x laptop. Anyways, my mouse on my laptop is broken. it goes all over my screen and i can't control it. it is spastic, and it does not move alot of times as well. And I have tried to disable it, but it did not work. Also, when I plug a regular mouse in, it works fine, unless the trackpoint is acting up. I want to disable the trackpoint mouse, but still use a regular mouse. Is that possible?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

New X201 Tablet. Trackpoint worked. Installed Bluetooth mouse. Now Trackpoint doesn't work -- but diagnostics say it's fine. Checked BIOS settings, on "Auto." Touchpad is working fine.QUESTION: Does using the Bluetooth mouse automatically disable the Trackpoint and trackpoint buttons?

Answer:Does Trackpoint auto disable with Blutooth mouse?

Hello mate, Normally it doesn't. What mouse are you using ? Maybe the drivers are in conlfict.

I am trying to find a way that the touch pad and trackpoint will disable when I connect an external mouse.  Other computers I've used have a setting for this, but I can not find one the Carbon X1. I don't want to disable them permanently (or at least not both of them) for those few times I'm not using an external mouse. My preference would be to disable one permanently, and the other only when an external mouse is present. Thanks

Answer:Disable touchpad and trackpoint with external mouse on Carbon X1

Hi, mkmchughIf there is such an option available, it would be with the mouse settings. Do you see anything related to disabling them with a USB mouse connected when you go to Mouse under Control panel and go to I believe is the Thinkpad tab?

I grabbed the 5/2011 drivers for UltraNav from the Lenovo site and it appears that an option 'to disable the integrated pointing devices when an external pointing device is present' does not exist, or at the very least I can't easily find it.  Please please please please tell me I'm simply being dense and this behavior is very easy to enable. Seriously, the 5-year old Dell drivers I had with my old machine did that, and this is driving me BONKERS. Alternatively, if what I'm doing here is feature-requesting, I'd be like 50% there if I could Fn+F8 and have an option to kill both the touchpad and the trackpoint - alas, I can disable 1 or the other BUT NOT BOTH WITH THAT OPTION.  Can I really not disable both? Lenovo W520, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

Answer:Option to disable UltraNav (touchpad + trackpoint) when external mouse is connected

I've never seen such a feature with the UltraNav drivers. You could just max out the PalmCheck and then set it to touchpad only.

Hi Finlander,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m really sorry to hear that you are having trouble with Touchpad and TrackPoint in your Lenovo S230u.

I would recommend you to update the Ultranav Driver to the latest version and check.

In order to disable the touchpad, go to Control Panel -> Mouse -> Ultrnav -> Uncheck Enable Touchpad checkbox ->OK.

I am new to the Lenovo X240 although I have had the X200 and X220. When I click on the Left mouse space on the x240, or what I think is the "button", different menus pop up. I also cannot get my cursor into an exact position because menus are popping up all the time. When I get a menu that pops up, sometimes it takes me 3 tries to get it to stop so I can make a correction or add a word.If anyone know the answer to this I would reatly appreciate some help.RAM

The cursor problem which I described here:
https://forums.techguy.org/threads/cursor-jumps-around.1173385/
has come back.

The advice there was to disable my computer's internal cursor pad, but I have found that I don't know how.
At Control Panel:

Mouse > Hardware says the laptop has
1. a "HID-compliant mouse" "on USB Input Device" (my actual mouse is a Logitech with a wireless USB plug, not manufactured by Microsoft as Control Panel claims)
2. a "PS/2 Compatible Mouse" "plugged into PS/2 mouse port"

Device Manager says the same. There's no external PS/2 port so I think the PS/2 "mouse" must be the cursor pad (why is it called a "mouse"?). But I can't see a way to turn the thing off except uninstalling the driver, which looks like a bad idea and hard to reverse.

In Device Manager > PS/2 COmpatible Mouse > Resources, the settings are greyed out.
In Mouse > Hardware > PS/2 COmpatible Mouse > Properties, there is no Resources tab.

The Control Panel options suggested here: http://labnol.blogspot.com/2007/05/disable-touch-pad-of-your-laptop-avoid.html are not available that I can see.
I am looking in here https://social.technet.microsoft.co...he-touchpad-on-windows-7?forum=w7itprogeneral and they suggest a different Synaptics driver, or a third party patch. The Control Panel methods suggested here aren't options on my computer.

T40 Details:2373-92U I've been having this problem with my trackpoint and ultranav mice for quite some time - it seems that only the left button generates any response by the OS, and that response is most often a "right click."  The actual right button is unresponsive.  I've tried the option under "control panel -> mouse -> button configuration -> switch primary and secondary buttons"  whether checked or unchecked, the left button still has the same behavior.  Occasionally, the left button will stop working entirely within a window - apparently the best way to resolve this is to use the left button to click anywhere on the desktop: the context menu appears, and after using the left button to click on any item within the context window the left button will once again become responsive in all windows (although it will still act like the right button when clicking). External USB mice and Bluetooth mice do not have this problem - those mice respond properly to left/right clicks. My best guess is that the keyboard unit (08k4957 or 08k4986) needs to be replaced, however I'm hoping there's a more definitive test I can perform before shelling out the $$ for a new keyboard unit.  I say this because the ultranav mousepad also has the same problem and I see it plugs into a separate location within the laptop - is there another common component within the laptop that could cause common failure between the two built-in mice? Thank... I bought a new T61 Thinkpad recently. From the begining I have been having problems with the trackpoint and touchpad mouse. At a time only one works and it is mostly the touchpad. I checked the BIOS setting and it is at automatic for both touchpad and trackpoint. Sometimes even the touchpad does not work. I have to restart the laptop couple of times for something to work. I have tried disabling touchpad in BIOS and end up not having the trackpoint also not work.In the thinkvantage productivity center it says that ultranav is not installed and I downloaded the ultranav update from lenovo website and installed it. Still the trackpoint does not work.I love the trackpoint and I hope some one can help me figure out what is happening.thanks

Hey Guys, I'm just wondering if Lenovo has said anything about possibly switching back to tactile buttons for the trackpoint or not? Even if it's an after-market install, I'd still be really interested in this. From what I've used of the new setup, it ruins 1/2 of the reasons I chose ThinkPads and I'm looking for a new laptop, but am unable to justify using the awful new trackpoint buttons. For now I will likely go with an older model, but I was really hoping to get my hands on the t440p with 4 cores so I could actually do virtualization on my laptop. Thanks for any help!

Totally agree. I would be happy if Lenovo mailed me a new keyboard with real buttons. I'll install it mysleft.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T440s-touchpad-choppy-buggy/m-p/1450453#M9...

Hi, I have win98 on my laptop right now along with win2000 dual boot, at first I had win 98, then I decided to upgrade to xp and with that the mouse pointer was there but didn't move at all, on the ibm website it said the new driver was only good for win2000 on my model of thinkpad so I installed win2000, upgrade and then clean install with the newest driver for that model, now there is no mouse pointer at all, I had to put 98 on so I could use the laptop, any ideas?

This is just a minor inconvenience, but I was just curious: Does anyone know how to change the settings to make the mouse the same speed as the trackpoint? I just got a new mouse with 1200dpi and with the mouse sensitivity at about halfway, they both vary in speed. I hate having to switch it every time I move away from my desk. The mouse I had before worked fine (it was a cheap mouse).

by the way, i'm using vista ultimate 64 on an IBM x60 tablet pc.

I have always used an IBM lap with a trackpoint mouse (that small little nub above the "B" key).

I purchased a similar keyboard for my desktop (IBM part #84H8566) and have been relatively happy with it. Plugged into the back of the computer, it takes up both PS/2 ports (for the keyboard, itself, and the mouse).

My question is this: I want to keep using my keyboard, but I'd like to add an external trackball and mouse (probably a Microsoft Intellipoint or a Logitech). I particularly want the ability to have a scroll wheel.

Does anyone out there know if there is any way to add this trackball/mouse and avoid a software conflict as I go from trackpoint/keyboard to trackball/mouse?

And....if no one out there has an answer, do you have a tech support number at IBM I could call (with or without a $$$ tech charge). I've been all over IBM's site and I can't find a "non-subscription" one-time tech number to call.

Thanks much !!

I have an x200. I recently purchased an interlink electronics bluetooth mouse and connection and setup worked great. The only problem is that the sensitivity that is good for my tackpoint is WAY too sensitive for the mouse. Is there a way to set up different sensitivities for the bluetooth mouse and the trackpoint so that i don't have to toggle the sensitivity every time I plug in my mouse?

Answer:Is it Possible to have different sensitivities for trackpoint and bluetooth mouse.

In a nutshell there is inherently different sensitivity for different mouses.

Hello,  I just got this TP Yoga and have had some issues with it right away.  First, the trackpoint is not working.  Second, my bluetooth mouse is very laggy.  Basically, everytime I leave it for a few seconds I need to double click or move it for abotu 2-3 seconds before it starts working again.  These things combined make this very annoying to work on.  What I have done: restarted the computer, reinstalled windows, updated to the latest drivers on the lenovo website, then called tech support.  My option now is to send it back and lose my computer for 10 days.   Anyone else have any suggestions?   Thank you all!

Hi to the forum.   I am a newly registered user of this forum but have been using Thinkpads for quite a while (T30, T43 and T61).   The T61  - 8891-CTO -  is rather old by now too and recently exhibited the 1 long and then short beeps and would not boot.   The GPU most likely overheated - a guess.    Following online hints I did manage to get the system back.   However, in the process something must have gone wrong and the Trackpoint/buttons and the Touchpad do not work anymore.  The BIOS does report them both as present and they are set to 'automatic'. Finding some mention of fuses on Thinkpad motherboards online I was wondering if there is a single fuse for both the Trackpoint/buttons and the Touchpad somewhere on the T61 motherboard and if so, could someone please point out where that fues is located? thanks, Anton

Hi! Just got a new T410. Since the first start of the system the mouse pointer is drifting over the monitor (upwards). When I remove the trackpoint cap nothing changes. The only thing to stop the drifting is to switch off the track point. Do you have an idea how I can stop this drifting of the track point?

Answer:drifting mouse pointer with trackpoint

Welcome to the forum!

Check to make sure you're not resting your finger on the TrackPoint when you're not actively using it.  That may stop the drifting that's going on.

Hey,I was wondering what I would need to do to fix the trackpad mouse button on my computer. Here is my situation:I own a thinkpad z60m and recently the trackpad left mouse button (from the bottom set under the pad) was not going up. I figured it was a button like the keyboard ones so I tried to gently pry it off, clean it and push it back in. However, it didn't snap back in and so the button is now no longer functional. Is there anyway I can replace the part or fix what I already have? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Replace Trackpoint mouse button

Well I just removed the keyboard of my thinkpad today and I'm pretty shure you can replace the whole keyboard. Or at least getting the keyboard out might enable you to better fix the button. Have you tried that?

The 3 physical buttons below the space bar, they aren't working.  The keyboard, the trackpoint stick and the touchpad ARE all working.  Just the 3 buttons don't work. I even tried unplugging/reseating the keyboard from the motherboard, it's all secured nicely, no dust or obstructions. Windows 8.1 installation (previously buttons working on this same install) I have tried almost everything.  Basically I didn't even notice anything was wrong because for months I was working with an external mouse and keyboard.  Then today, when I went back to work on the laptop without the external mouse/keyboard, I noticed the problem. Everything else is working.  I updated to the latest ultranav drivers.  I'm thinking there is something screwy somewhere in the registry or with some windows update or something?  Any suggestions very much appreciated.

Answer:Trackpoint physical mouse buttons not working

*bump* Issue still not resolved.  Anyone have any ideas? After lots of searching it seems it might be a fuse on the motherboard?  Would the fuse, as mentioned here...http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=100537...does any one know if that fuse (or something simillar to it on the x220) would allow for the point stick, the trackpad and trackpad clicks and all the keyboard keys to work, and only the signiture lenovo 3 mouse buttons not to work?? Without the 3 buttons my pointing stick is useless, and I always much prefer that option to the trackpad as I can use it while leaving my hands on the keyboard in typing position. I'm now thinking it's either a fuse, as described in the above link, or it is some sort of odd registry error or windows setting/update conflict or something like that. In a few days when I have more time, I am going to load Ubuntu on a memory stick, and live boot it without the need to install and see if the buttons work there.  They should be picked up as a regular mouse via default drivers.  If it's not working their, then it's a hardware or bios issue. Anyone who knows better, please inform me.  -cheers

Hi,For several months now, I have been having problems with the trackpad. It would start behaving erratically, usually after 15 or more minutes, and eventually right from startup or wakeup. Things would usually be better for a bit after a restart, but not for long. I just turned off the trackpad and switched to the trackpoint. It too starts to fail after a while, though I can often get it to work again by opening the laptop up to 180 degrees. This doesn't last, so now I am always carrying a usb mouse around. Ocassionally, on wakeup the keyboard does not work, but it often starts working after a few minutes.During this same period, I have had crashes - i.e. blue screens. This has only happened a couple of times when I am actually using the laptop, rather, it almost always happens when the computer is going to sleep or going into hibernation, or so I think. I have also noticed that the laptop sometimes has trouble going to sleep or into hibernation, or starting up again after a crash. Again, opening up the laptop often seems to help. Hi all. I've seen this issue posted about many times before and can't get a hold of lenovo. When I try to use the "contact us - email" page the link doesn't work!  I have a x250 I purchased in 2015. It has been working great until recently. I usually use the trackpoint and have the touchpad disabled. Recently it just stops working and the only way I can get the mouse to function again is by using an external standard mouse. When I go to mouse settings it doesn't even recognize that I have a touchpad/trackpoint, even after installing updated ULTRANAV drivers. This also extends to the keyboard, some days the keyboard will not work at all. The only thing I can do is restart 100 times and cross my fingers it works one time. I've tried moving the mouse at the login screen, pressing firmly on the touchpad, etc. Nothing works aside from the off chance it cooperates after restarting. So, I have updated drivers numerous times for windows 10 and yet my trackpoint/touchpad still seem to rarely work. I am out of a warranty on this so I'm not sure what to do. My boyfriend is suggesting a factory reset, does anyone think that will work or have any other ideas? Thanks.

I have a problem that is very inconvenient with a T470 that I just purchased. I like to use an external keyboard and mouse when at home or in the office.  I've been doing this for at least 3 previous models of Thinkpad.  I hookup wither a Logitech Unifying technology mouse/keyboard or a bluetooth mouse/keyboard. In the past all this does is allow for a second mouse and keyboard and the ones built into the laptop remain active. With this new T470, the Trackpoint stops working on the laptop (the keyboard keeps working) when I have an external mouse active. This is very inconvenient because I sometimes want to use my laptop elsewhere in the office or home and if I don't remember to turn off the external mouse, I have to walk back to mouse and turn it off. Is there a fix for this?

I have a brand new T510, coming from a T61p. Everything is GREAT but ONE thing... Occasionally when I am using the trackpointer (which I do often) the left click button will lose the click that it has, let me try and explain... I click down to grab a window and drag it, start dragging, suddenly without depressing the button at all, it just drops the window, and then the click kicks back on a split second later either grabbing something else or clicking something else giving it the focus. I can replicated it occasionally and opened paint, started drawing a long curvy line without unclicking the button and the line ends up with breaks in it! Has anyone had this issue? It is VERY irritating...

I found that I can not move the mouse cursor using the trackpoint when I have the middle mouse button pressed down. This is quite annoying in situations (i.e. playing Diablo 3 with forced move). Is this a hardware limitation? Running Windows 7 x64.

Answer:X220T Middle mouse button BLOCKS the trackpoint interrupts?

The middle button is set to scrolling by default. You'll probably need to set it to act as a normal middle mouse button from the windows control panel.

Ever since I bought my second hand R61 Laptop, it has noticeably been different from my first laptop, R60e.Sometimes it refuses to shut down, proclaiming that another user is the reason.Often, either on Startup or after coming out of hibernation/standby mode, the mouse freezes.A frozen mouse always results in having to shut down the computer again, as a Forced Shutdown, asthere appears to be no other way to establish communication with my device. Regularly, once the mouse has frozen, it may take up to 4 startups for it to go back to normal. Anyone experienced this?   Ideas on a fix? Eleyan

Hi,I've a Lenovo T61 laptop. All of a sudden the left click has stopped responding on trackpoint, touchpad & mouse. Through none of the options the left click is working. Tried googling out but found no workable solutions. Please help. Laptop OS is Windows Vista 32-BIT. Thanks & Regards,Gangadhar

Answer:Issue with left click on trackpoint, touchpad and mouse - Lenovo T61

Hello,

A few things to try:

?  Create a new user account, login using that and see if the problem still occurs.  If the problem goes away, then it is due to software running under your user account.
?  Start Windows in Safe Mode and see if the problem still occurs.  If the problem goes away, it was due to an application which runs on startup.
?  Boot the computer from a Linux Live CD/USB and see if the problem still occurs.  If it does, then the problem is not due to the operating system and you are dealing with a hardware issue.

In the case of the latter, the usual fix would be to replace the keyboard.

Hi there, I have a weird problem. First, I am running Windows 7 beta (build 7100) on my T60 (type 2007), so that could be the reason, and I assume it's probably software related in any case. But anyway, in case some of you have experience with the problem, here goes. The other day the mouse buttons on my UltraNav, for no apparant reason, stopped functioning. The trackpoint is working fine as is the middle scroll-button and the touchpad. But I can't left or right-click. Both the buttons above and below the touchpad are gone. Pretty weird, as the upper mouse buttons are connected through the keyboard-connector-cable and the touchpad and the buttons below that are connected via a seperate cable. I've checked the settings in the UltraNav tab and they're ok, and I'm using the latest driver (9137), and have tried reinstalling it.No luck. Any ideas - besides reinstalling/downgrading Windows, which I'll probably do anyway if nothing else helps?

I just rebuilt a R40 for a friend using an XP Professional SP3 CD.Once I had XP installed and the security updates loaded I installed the Lenovo System Update and got the drivers installed through that method.  It installed the current version of the UltraNav driver V14.0.18.0, but something screwy is going on. Sometimes during boot up the cursor will start hopping horizontally to the right edge of the screen.Trying to "force" it back doesn't work well as it keeps trying to "hop" off the right side of the screen. Also the UltraNav icon does not always show up on the taskbar even though I have it turned on. It does this (but not all of the time) either with or without a USB mouse installed. Just now it was behaving properly and I was using the USB mouse to change settings within the UltraNav control panel. I changed one of the settings and the cursor went into "stupid" mode right away and hopped off the right side of the screen. I now have it set so that the touchpad IS enabled and the trackpoint is DISabled. If I check the box to enable the trackpont the cursor immediately starts to hop off the right side of the screen and can not be controlled. I have to use the keyboard to turn off the trackpoint function and regain cursor control. Have I got bad hardware here or .... driver issues....Again the cursor "hops" off the screen in about 1/2" increments and is not drifting "smoothly" off-screen.... Thanks for any help!Jim

Answer:cursor / mouse hops horizontally across screen to the right - erratic w/ trackpoint enabled

Hi Jim,I suggest downloading and booting from a Live CD of any linux distro, if the curser also hops in linux then it definitely would be hardware issue.I also recommend running lenovo PC Doctor's diagnostic test on the keyboard.Hope it helps.

Hi.My new Lenovo S430's Trackpad works most of the time but sometimes just suddenly stops working and I have to restart the laptop using keyboard navigation Often this happens when the machine is under load like an antivirus scan or similar. Sometimes the Trackpad is also sluggish to respond, like it ignores the first touch. The Trackpoint and mouse buttons (the ones above the Touchpad) work for the first 3-5 minutes after boot up and then suddenly stops working and doesn't start again until it's restarted. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling most of the drivers (for various other issues) on the machine but it hasn't helped. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Answer:Edge S430 - Touchpad, Trackpoint & Mouse Buttons Not Functioning Correctly

News on this problem: now nothing works except the keyboard. I'm stuck using a usb mouse. The bios config page for keyboard/mouse only shows options for the Fn keys. The laptop also bricked itself briefly and gave an error beep (1, 3, 3, 1) which seems to indicate a problem with the DIMM or system board. What can I do? Will a system restore help or should I just send it back? I need help.

Hi guys,

New here, so I hope I'm not out of line asking for help, and that I'm asking correctly. I've exhausted my own ideas on this but the problem is driving me IN.SANE.

THE ISSUE:
When using an external (USB) mouse with my ASUS Win7 laptop, the mouse randomly lifts up and re-clicks while clicking or while dragging (despite the button remaining consistently depressed), resulting in selection of the wrong objects, inadvertent double-clicks, and incorrect dragging. From what I can tell, this affects only the left click and not the right.

WHAT I'VE TRIED:
Laptop touchpad - no problem. Everything works fine with the built-in touchpad.
Another mouse - same problem. These are wired mice, so it's not a battery or connection issue.
Another USB port - same problem in all four. There's no visible issue with the motion of the mouse/cursor, so it seems to be communicating OK via USB.
Safe Mode - no problem, from what I can tell. The wired USB mouse seems to click and drag as normal in Safe Mode.
Mouse Settings - no effect. Adjusting the click/double-click/drag settings doesn't seem to change anything.
System Resources - no effect. Clicking/dragging seems to show the same results in the RAM/CPU monitors whether I'm having the problem (with the mouse) or performing the same actions without the problem (with the trackpad).

WHAT I CANNOT FIGURE OUT:
What haven't I ruled out? What else could be causing the issue?

The problem came on suddenly after about a year, but I... Read more

Answer:Mouse problem: Any external mouse. Touchpad OK. Mouse OK in Safe Mode.

Hey mate, and welcome,

Possible problem:
1. Mouse itself is bad. Either the button itself or internally
2. Driver is not at its best

Try:
Going to the mouse manufacture website to download the most recent driver for your Windows 7, either 32 or 64 bit. If it doesn't work, try without any driver (so that windows driver takes over).

Hi,While docked yesterday, I downloaded the latest ThinkVantage Updates  using the System Update Utility for my T61 2009-AD1.  After applying the updates, the system rebooted and my TP stick was very SLOW as I keep it on the fastest settings to reduce hand stress.   When I went into the control panel --> mouse, it tells me: "Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver"   If you have installed another PS/2 Pointing Device Driver, please uninstall the Synaptics driver by clicking on the Yes button.  You then need to reinstall your pointing device driver for the external device again.  Do you want to uninstall the Synaptics Driver Now? I had an external USB TrackPoint Keyboard connected to the dock and have never had any problems from the UltraNav or the Updates.   Generally, there were two UltraNav tabs in the Mouse Panel, one for the onboard TP and one for the Ultranav USB Keyboard.. Now there's only one "Synaptics" tab which is all hozed up.  I cannot change the sensitivity of the mouse etc.. I've tried to uninstall the Synaptics Drive via Add/Remove Programs - it will not uninstall, it just hangs the Thinkpad to 100% CPU and sits there.  I've tried rolling back the driver in device manager, it refuses to rollback. I've tried reinstalling the older Ultranav driver and it complains that a newer driver is installed, use add/remove programs to remove the newer dri... My mouse/mouse connection is misbehaving. My PC was working fine yesterday. When I switched it on today, however, the pointer on the screen wouldn?t move with my mouse. My mouse is a Logitech Cordless. I changed the batteries, I disconnected it and reconnected it and restarted my machine a number of times but still it wouldn?t work. I looked at the Hardware Manager but gleaned no useful information. The only other thing that suggested something wasn?t right was when I clicked on the Logitech icon on my desktop. Normally it shows you the battery levels of both the keyboard and the mouse but this time it only showed the keyboard. The end of the cable from the mouse receiver is a USB plug, which you then attach to a mouse port adaptor so that you can plug it directly into the mouse port on the computer. I removed the adaptor and plugged the naked USB plug directly into a spare USB port. The mouse then started to work immediately. I therefore have a solution for the short-term. I do not, however, want to leave the set-up like this, as I am now engaging a USB port for the mouse unnecessarily while the dedicated mouse port lies redundant, plus when you click on the Logitech icon it still doesn?t register the mouse.Any ideas as to what?s gone wrong? My PC hasn?t sustained any physical impacts between yesterday and today so the USB-mouse port adaptor shouldn?t be damaged.

Question: Disable mouse?

Hello there, I was just wondering if there was a group policy feature and/or free software available to totally disable use of the mouse or move it to the corner of the screen at startup. You see, my teammates and I are creating a digital kiosk as part of a school project which uses a web page as the layout. The center of the page houses the daily announcements, which scroll using Javascript. However, if the mouse hovers over the announcements, the Javascript picks up on this and stops scrolling. My goal is to prevent the pointer from being visible.

Any ideas?

Thanks very much.

When I get the windows login screen, the trackpoint works fine, but the second I press any key, both keyboard and mouse become totally frozen. I can still use a USB keyboard and mouse with no issue at, but that is the only way. Any ideas as to how I can get them back up and working? If your laptop has the ability to disable the touchpad when a mouse is plugged in, that option will be found in the settings / properties for the touchpad.  I have a couple of older Lenovo laptops using Windows 7 and 8 where the touchpad software / driver will allow disabling.  Where as my newer Lenovo laptops with Windows 10 does not have that feature.  The disabling is really dependent on the software / drivers for your model.

Answer:Help!! Virus disable my mouse

i'm awaiting a fix for I have a mouse problem too.
I have to unplug and plug back in the usb mouse to keep it working.
if I have the adaptor for the normal mouse port it won't work at all.

so i've been using the kb for almost a week now. (help me techsupportguys! hehe)

use the TAB button to move to each link in a page and to the address bar etc.
hold shift and tab to go backwards.

use cursor controls to scroll in a page. (you may need to tab to get to the scrollable area)

while holding the ALT button, press tab and you can switch between windows. a little window pops up and you can go to the window you want if you have several open.

if your kb has a start button, pressing it will pull up the start menu and you can use your cursor controls to do stuff there. There's a key between the right side alt and ctrl (I don't know what it's called) that I does what my right mouse button does. ESC key to close that feature if it opens.

and of course ctrl/alt/delete to bring up task manager and you can close programs that way too.

can't think of anything else.

Hey people,

My grandmother has recently started using a computer and has trouble working the mouse. Whenever she tries to click, she is unable to hold her hand still and moves the mouse while clicking, otherwise known as dragging. Therefore, opening files, clicking on images etc. is impossible as she only drags them to another position...

Is it possible to disable dragging on a mouse? Or probably more accurate, is it possible to change the settings such that the click-action happens 'on-release' instead of 'on-click', which would result in the same disabling of dragging.

Thanks!
Laurens

Answer:Mouse - Disable Drag

Hello Laurens one possibility mate is to enable as in my pic. Control Panel > Mouse > see pic

If you click on say a file and then start to move it and release the click button the object will carry on moving until you click on it again as and where you want it.

It works with my machine but it does need that initial tiny bit of movement to keep it locked. I hope this might be of some use to you both.
Sorry missed a second pic you can adjust the length of time to hold the click down see pic 2

I already have all the drivers provided from HP's website...

Answer:Can't disable tap to click on mouse?? Please help!

After installing the OS you need to first install the chipset driver, then all other drivers. Did you do that?

I work for a library and all I want to do is completely disable the right mouse button in Windows XP on public access computers (but allow me to login as administrator and enable/disable it again). I figured Windows would have something like this built in, but it doesn't. I figured there would be a freeware program that could do this, but I can't find one. Some mouse drivers allow you to disable the right mouse button, but not for the mice I have. Do you know of some obscure Windows XP registry setting that would allow me to disable the right mouse button (in all contexts), or of a simple freeware utility that would allow me to do this?

Answer:Why I can't disable mouse pad on lenovo e431

Hi Navuth,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that you had difficulties in disabling the touchpad of your Lenovo ThinkPad E531.

I would suggest you to go to control panel -> Mouse. Under the Ultranav tab, you can uncheck the enable trackpoint/touchpad to disable the one you wish to.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hi,

I recently used a projector that plugged into my computer. Once I got the projector to work, my touchpad mouse on my laptop stoppd working, but I didn't think anything of it and just plugged in a wireless mouse with USB and my mouse worked again.

Now, I can't figure out how to get my touchpad working again, so I am thinking it is just a simple enable/disable option.

Help?

Thanks.

how do u disable touch pad mouse click

I have a touch pad mouse on my laptop and if u touch the pad it clicks and if u move your finger on the pad it moves the mouse. I am fine with the moveing i dont like the clicking, if i want to click something i can use the mouse buttons for that

Answer:how do u disable touch pad mouse click

hi yiiyyii,

there should be a setting in your mouse properties control panel. labeled "enable tap to click" (or something similar).

since you wish to disable the feature, I assume that you're "clicking" by accident. you can probably solve that problem by reducing the touchpad sensitivity (same control panel).

personally I can't do without that feature when using my laptop. I don't have the patience to move my finger over to the buttons

cheers

wonderin' if anyone can help.
I'd like to be able to disable anyone changing the mouse cursor on our win2k systems. I'd like to be able to disable the mouse pointer tab in the mouse control panel or grey it out. I can't seem to see anything in the registry other than not showing the mouse/keyboard in the control panel. The trouble with this is it then takes away all the other tabs with the user might need.
Any suggestions?

As the subject says, I need to be able to disable to the touch pad when another mouse is connected. Currently I am running a stock Sony VAIO VGN-TXN17P with the latest install of XP Pro. I checked under the Control Panel, Mouse Devices (or whatever its called) and I can't seem to disable my VAIO's touchpad while my Bluetooth Mouse is connected. Any help is greatly appreciated.

On Toshiba notebooks (2 different models) when keeping the mouse arrow steady over a folder too long (few splits of a second) and then move the mouse, the folder is dragged away along with the arrow.

Is it possible to disable that function?
Thanks for info.

i can see two possible solutions.

The First
Adjust the sensivity of the touchpad/mouse using the mouse properties (accessed via control panel in all windows os)

The Second
The mouse setting of "hover to select" (or something similar to that) might be selected. This setting basically eliminates the need of the "click once" mouse operations. Thus resulting in a short hover to select a folder.
Look at the mouse settings and "de-select" this setting.

reply if this helps, or if it doesn't so that another possible solution can be made.

On most computers, you can resume working by pressing your computer’s power button. However, not all computers are the same. You might be able to wake your computer by pressing any key on the keyboard, clicking a mouse button, or opening the lid on a laptop.
For a desktop PC pressing any key on the keyboard and clicking a mouse button are the most common ways to wake up system, but some user don’t want to wake up their system by an accidental key press or a mouse click.
To help those who don’t want to wake up their system by these accidental key press and clicks here is an workaround which can help you to disable Key press and Mouse click system’s wake up capability (not recommended). To do this follow the below steps- Step 1. Press WIN + PauseBreak to open System Properties or right click on My Computer and chose Properties. Step 2. Now click on Device Manager to launch it. Step 3. Now choose Keyboards > Standars PS/2 Keyboard and right click on it and select Properties Step 4. Now go to Power Management tab and un-check the option “Allow this device to wake up the computer".
That’s it, you can do the same for Mouse by un-checking the option in “Mice and other Pointing device” Source: beingPC

How to desable mouse Horizontal Scrolling? In Mouse Properties/wheel can't be done I think

Answer:How to disable mouse Horizontal Scrolling?

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

What sort of mouse are you using?. I am using a Logitech TrackMan Wheel mouse & horizontal scrolling can be found by opening Control Panel, select Mouse & one of the tabs is called Wheel, select that & you should see a panel for Horizontal Scrolling. Adjust the number to zero & see if that cures your problem.
There is also more info at this website as well.
