Error loading C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Adobe\update\flacor.d

Question: Error loading C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Adobe\update\flacor.d

I get a: Error loading C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Adobe\update\flacor.dat
The specified module could not be found.
on reboot. I ran the MG tools exe and am attaching the log. Thanks

Preferred Solution: Error loading C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Adobe\update\flacor.d

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Error loading C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Adobe\update\flacor.d

Re: Error loading C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Adobe\update\flac

You have skipped many steps of the Read and Run Me first procedures. You will need to refer to the below running what you did not before, and then once completed, run MGTools.exe again and attach the zip file it creates along with the other requested logs.

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Don't Bump! It Only Hurts You!!!

Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

Hi,

First time posting.

I ran combofix.exe a few weeks ago before I knew of the help available via these forums. When I ran the program the following files were detected and deleted:

c:\documents and settings\<username>\Application Data\inst.exe
c:\windows\system32\Ijl11.dll

I do nightly scans using AVG Free 8.5 and Spybot Search and Destroy (both up-to-date). Nothing was detected in either scan last night.

I ran combofix.exe again tonight and the following was detected and deleted:

c:\documents and settings\<username>\Application Data\inst.exe

Now that I realized there is a lot of help available on these forums, I'm here looking for some guidance.

I do have a combofix log file that was produced after the second combofix scan and I'd be more than happy to post it here, but I will wait for further instruction first.

My main concern is why inst.exe is showing up a second time.

Thank-you for any help you can provide.

Answer:inst.exe found in c:\documents and settings\<username>\Application Data\

I also ran a Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Quick Scan after the combofix completed.

No infections were detected.

Answer:C:\Documents and Settings\owner\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.

Hi Welcome to TSG!!

If you log on as administrator you should be able to delete everything in the C:\Documents and Settings\owner\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 folder.

If you sign in as "owner" you should be able to remove everything except index.dat if you close all of your browser windows.

when I turn on my computer I get this message and if I click on 'okay' it goes away and things do run but slowly at times. What is wrong?

Answer:error loading c\:documents and settings\all u

I can't see the rest of the message. Normally that location is a way to put files or shortcuts or programs available to all users. All users is not really a user but a holding spot for (you guessed it) all users.Might install MS's security essentials or other software to protect and check your system if you don't already. Consider looking at removing old un-needed apps or using disk clean up to free up space. Defrag may help a bit.If all else fails then consider re-loading the OS from OEM disks. Hello All,

I am getting the following two error messages every time I boot up:

Error loading C:\Documents and Settings\...\Local Settings\Application Data\evevekanu.dll

Error loading C:\Documents and Settings\...\Local Settings\Application Data\Bzewujagedeyoxi.dll

IT already looked into this and could not figure this out. I am attaching a screenshot of both errors.

Thank you all for your help.

Answer:Error Loading C:\Documents and Settings...\evevekanu.dll and Bzewujagedeyoxi.dll

Hi .Did you take a look in the stated folder...to see if those items exist? If not, then I would suspect that they were malware items that have been removed...but which still have startup pointers to the nonexistent files. You can use AutoRuns for Windows - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb963902.aspx to take a look at your startup pointers. The Logon tab is the only one you want to look at...if you find items similar to the ones mentioned in your message...temporarily disable them, rather than delete...until you are sure the startup item relates to nothing essential.Louis

In windows XP how do i access documents and settings/owner/local settings? When I run malwarebytes it goes into this folder and is there for ever. I would like to acces this and delete what is in there but I do not know how to get there.
Any help would be appriciated.

Answer:documents and settings/owner/local settings

Follow these steps!!
1. Go to my computer
2. Click on "Tools"
3. Go to "Folder options"
4. Go to "View"
5. Then click on the "Show hidden files and folders" Tab

Then you can go to the Documents and Settings/Owner/Local settings.

I am sure you will succeed but make sure you follow the first 5 steps after everything so that you can hide the files again. Some system files need to be kept hidden to avoid being removed or deleted accidentally

Hi, my cousin has been living with us and using the family computer for a while now and keeps installing random freeware programs from the internet at will. Needless to say the performance went down considerably to the point where no one wanted to use it, so I decided to remove a bunch of them using the remove software tool. I came to one "Samsung Media Studio 5" which, when I tried to uninstall it, said it could not access specific files because they were located in the C:\Documents and Settings\Owner file and I did not have access to it. I was in the original admin account set up on the computer from day 1. I restarted in safe mode and tried to just access this file but was denied access. Tried again using the Administrator account found in safe mode, but same thing again. I can not even explore this file.

We previously had a problem with the sound drivers on my machine where there would be no sound produced at all...I finally discovered they had been deleted or replaced...now that same problem has returned after a portion of the program noted above's files had been removed so I'm starting to wonder if he has let this third party program manage the sound drivers or if it has done something malicious to the System. I'm at a loss, I found a few threads related to this, but nothing directly and nothing that remedied my problem so any help at all here would be much appreciated!

Thank you

Hello argenys and welcome to TSF,

You have a few infections aboard so please be patient as we need to go after them in stages.

Please copy this page to Notepad and save to your desktop for reference as you will not have any browsers open while you are carrying out portions of these instructions.

It is IMPORTANT that you don't miss a step & perform everything in the correct order/sequence.

You are running Hijack This from a temporary directory. It needs to be in a permanent folder as the program creates backup files that we may need to use later. If the program is in a Temporary folder, files may be deleted by you or automatically if your system is set to empty temp files.

Please go into Windows Explorer, (My Computer)
click on C: then click on File > New > Folder and call it HJT , or another name of your choice.

While I do not see Webroot's Active Protection in your running processes, please make sure it is disabled or it will interfere with the fix below:

Hi

I have recently noticed this file in my Documents and Settings Folder:

010000031210DE041510B0.bios

Has anyone any idea what this might relate to and why it is there?

Answer:Unknown file in C:\Documents and Settings\Owner Folder

Hello EricG

I have never heard of a ".bios" file extension.

I would be suspicious of it.

Go here and use the "Browse" button to find it on your machine. Upload it to be scanned for malware.

I'd like to transfer the data from my Owner profile to a new profile, but I keep receiving this message while trying to do so: C:\Documents and Settings\Owner is not accessible. Access denied.

I followed the Microsoft Knowledge Base article, so I don't know what's preventing me from accessing the Owner folder.

Note I'm using an administrator account to access the Owner folder.

Answer:Solved: C:\Documents and Settings\Owner is not accessible. Access denied.

Could be the permissions are set for the Owner account only, and not the Administrators Group.

Right click the C:\Documents and Settings\Owner folder, click Properties, then click the Security tab.
Make sure Administrators is listed -- note the s, and the icon should have two heads, not one.
You must have simple file sharing turned off to see the security tab and for XP Home, boot into safe mode, or install the XP Security tab fix from the link in this post
To turn off simple file sharing:
Control Panel | Folder Options
View tab
Uncheck Use simple file sharing (Recommended) (last item in the list)

You can also take ownership of the folder:

Win xp sp2. My computer crashed and I had to use the recovery disc supplied by the manufacturer. The recovery process erased the HD but offered me the option of backing up which I did. Hello,

When I go to Start-Run-cmd-ok the resulant screen shows:

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner

and I don't know how to delete this line so that I can enter the command that I want to run (driverquery).
I'm hoping that there is a simple solution. I obviously am not too experienced in using the command prompt.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Aloha,
I am helping a friend with two problems:
1. Upon booting a message comes up that says c:\users\appdata\foaming\adobe\update\flacor.dat cannot be accessed. This appears to be some sort of malware; and,
2. Upon going to the Internet with his AOL access browser the computer asks to install 'Adobe flash player installer'. I have removed Adobe Flash and re-installed it, but it keeps coming up.
I have read all of your prep guide.
Do you think you might be able to help me?
I haven't attached any of the files as I think I am supposed to do this after you say you might help.
Thanks for your time!!

Hello,

I recently reinstalled Windows XP (home). It eventually came up with two users: Owner and Guest. I picked "owner" and changed its name to my sister's name (her computer); let's call her "Sara." I then added a user account for myself. But later she began to have problems finding her "favorites" and her desktop didn't always come up the same. Looking into this I found under "Documents and Settings" her user name and "owner". However, at the startup page where you pick which user account to open there is no "Owner" account listed.

Before reinstalling Windows I'm quite certain (99%) that there wasn't a listing for "Owner", I assume because it had been renamed.

I am tempted to delete Sara's account just to see if the owner account would show up, but worried about unforseen results. I had tried to delete the owner directory from the Documents and Settings folder but Windows would not let me as it had "System files" in it that windows needed to work.

What I want is for the Owner account to be in her name and to delete her account that's in her name but not the owner account. Or a way to force the owner account to show on the startup screen.

Also, while trying to find a way to fix this, one of the things I did was to try and create a user account called "Owner." Instead it created an acct. called "Owner_2" which I deleted but later I found... Read more

Answer:Solved: Problem with "owner" in Documents and Settings

Hi, and welcome to TSG

Its never a good idea to rename accounts because a lot of the time there will usually be conflicting between the two user names. Try deleting the account than putting it back and see what happens.

I have a problem with a computer. When I log on, the desktop is blank, only the shortcuts that where created for all users are visible. But every custom shortcut is gone.

When I go into c:\Documents and Settings I see my user name "user" as well as another folder called "user.mycoimputername". And I happen to now log in as "user.mycomputername". But why is that? And how do I log in with the other user setting folder, I clearly see it in the Documents and Settings folder.

A while back I believe I knew of the solution, but I cannot remember how to fix it.

If anyone could help that would be great!
Thanks!

I needed to transfer a classic car manual to CD-RW because it was quite large and I would need to refer to it off line quite frequently. The item in question is in Adobe and I started the sequence ok, however after I loaded the clean, brand new, disc as requested,I got the message that this disc was full and couldn't be used - I loaded another disc (three times in all) and got the same message. I have tried the search archives but got no replies to my question. Can I have some help please.

Answer:Loading data from Adobe Acrobat to CD-RW

Is it on the internet or where? What format is it in?What software are you using?

Hi, I’m Spencer and I just joined the forum.

My question regards one of the practices of a local computer repair shop where I am currently interning... This practice is just one of a handful of procedures that is known as our “Performance Tune-Up”. It involves checking the size of the Documents and Settings folder, if this folder is above say four or five gigabytes the source of the reported data is to be found and moved to another folder on the root C:\ drive (a shortcut is then placed on the desktop so the user may access their data).

When I asked the owner of the shop why this was part of our performance tune-up, he explained to me that Windows XP scans the Documents and Settings folder on startup. If there is a large amount of data in this folder, it will slow the startup time. He later remarked that he knows this must be the case because he has witnessed computers with heavy amounts of data on the desktop slow the startup times.

This seemed perfectly logical to me, but I was curious and somewhat skeptical about his statements. After spending a couple hours researching this on the internet, I haven’t been able to come up with a definite answer as to whether large amounts of data in the Documents and Settings folder affect startup time. Could someone please help me out on this? I’m mostly wondering for my own computers sake, but also for the shop, in the event that my boss is wrong and we’re performing useless tasks.

Although, I haven’t found an answer, I am do... Read more

I am looking for a way to copy files to a local domain users Application Data folder either through a self extracting file, batch file or even logon script. I need to install Stationery for MS Outlook to about 100+ users desktops and instead of pullign the stationery from "c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\stationery" they pull it from a file in thier documents and settigns folder...

I can craete a self extractign exe but that would only be useful if it had to go to the same directory on each and every machine

Answer:How to copy files to local users \documents and setting\user\application data folder?

Put the stuff you need to be copied down to the client system in \\someserver\someshare\somedirectory and add something like this to the login script?

Hello, I'm using a combination of the Vista backup to do a complete backup of my OS and applications (for emergency restore) and another backup tool to handle my data.

My OS is on C: and my data on D: (and other drives).

My query is that C: will contain application settings/data - for example if I write actions in Photoshop they will be stored under the user application data subdirectory or if I create a DOT template for Word it will be stored under the hidden data directories for Word.

I want to be sure that I am backing up all of the vital application data/settings so that I can either restore just those or in an emergency can restore my full Vista backup (done weekly) and then restore the application data (which I want to backup daily).

I've searched this set of forums and elsewhere to find something that lists which subdirectory tree(s) I need to ensure that I have backed up (and I guess I'll need to do a registry backup too each day just in case settings are stored there). I can't find such a list.

Does anyone know of a document that details what the vital stuff to backup is?

Thanks.

Answer:Application data/settings backup

If you need to backup Photoshop, you need to find it's directory (probably under Adobe), and for Word it's probably under Microsoft or Office. Another option is to simply backup the entire AppData folder, that way you can't miss anything.

If you're talking about a large-scale backup for your whole system, you will probably want to backup drivers as well (you only need to back these up once, all the drivers are installed in C:\swsetup, but I prefer just saving the installer files).

I reinstalled my OS multiple times, with my personal data on another drive. What I backed up from my C drive was:

Select folders from AppData (only for programs' settings that I wanted to backup)Fonts that I had collected over time (C:\Windows\Fonts)Themes that I had collected over time (C:\Windows\Resources\Themes)Custom Power Plans (exported/imported through powercfg.exe in command prompt)Start Menu folder, for lots of links I created (AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu - Private Profile, C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu - Public Profile)Certain folders in Program Files of older programs that I run as Administrator for compatibility purposes (programs that need Administrator privileges to save stuff in Program Files)I did not backup the registry in anyway, because the registry changes I made were saved as .reg files. Other registry changes are made while installing programs (which after a clean install will be done anyway)
What you think is vital to backup depends on your s... Read more

We are getting the above error randomly on some of the laptops we have deployed. The error comes right after you boot or when the windows 7 is left running. There are no special software running. The error in details is below.
"The boot configuration Data (BCD) settings for the following boot application have changed since Bitlocker was enabled
boot appplication: \windows\system32\winload.exe
change settings: 0x26000090
You must supply a bitlocker recovery key to start this system.
Confirm that the changes to the BCD settings are trusted.

If the changes are trusted then suspend and resume bitlocker. This will reset bitlocker to use the new BCD settings.
Otherwise restore the original BCD settings"

Can anyone please explain on how to correct this error. As before this is happening on few of the machines and we are seeing more as we go. Any tips would be nice...Thanks

Hello,

Upgraded from 8.1 earlier today. Hours later, I realized that the Windows Update dialogue box hangs with nothing going on except the loading dots animation (for up to half-an-hour so far). Can't tell if there are new updates and I'm concerned there could be some in the future that I may need but won't be able to access them.

Any help please!

First of all I'll make a complaint. I am very disappointed with Windows 10. It's been one of the worst Windows ever made and sooner or later I will switch from Windows to some normal OS sofware. I have been let down too many times by it (not just 10 but all of the former as well) and I decided it's simply not worth my time, money and nerves.

Today Windows decided to do an upgrade on my computer and when I turned it on it said it was preparing something. After the welcome screen, I realized all my documents on the desktop have been missing, including majority of the shortcuts.

All the settings have been reverted, including theme, desktop image, default programs. In short, there's not much left untouched.

What's utterly intolerable it somehow deleted ALL my personal documents, pictures, literally EVERYTHING is lost. I just can't put up with it anymore. There were several files I need for my work, everything is simply gone.

Is there a way I can get these things back?

Shame on you, Windows.

Answer:Windows 10 Update results in all settings and documents lost!

Will mark as solved since I have finally been able to get my data back.

Hi there,

I'm currently having problems using Adobe Audition v 3. I keep receiving BSODs referring to having to dump physical memory. The BSODs state a

Consequently, I wonder if anyone can help? Would installing SP3 potentially solve this problem? From reading posts i've anticipated having to leave minidumps so i've included them alongside.

Hello,

Some History: I ran Secunia Online Software Inspector as part of another Topic related to clearing up some malware. I got a message that i needed to update Adobe Reader 7.X. When i hit the link, it gave me a Windows Installer error message: The upgrade patch cannot be installed because the program to be updated may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be updated exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch. I verified that Adobe Reader 7.X was in my program files. Tried to delete it there and also in Add/Change progams, but got an error message...Error 1327. Invalid drive: h:\. I was refered to another topic that discussed remapping registry/drive assignments, and I found that there were a few items that were mapped to drive H which i changed to drive C. This resolved my issue and i was able to download and update Adobe Reader 9.1, the latest version.

However, when i tried to use Adobe Reader 9.1, I get the following error message:

" This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem "

I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling v9.1 and also reinstalling v.8. I continue to get the same error message. I'm not sure if I created a problem when I redirected the drive mapping as mentioned above.

I've also noticed a lot of Error lines in my Event Viewer / Systems.

My XP screwed up.

I didn't want to risk screwing up teh drive itsef because it has alot of data that I want to keep and didn't want to risk loosing it.

However, all this information is in the My Documents and Settings\Owner folder, and I can not access that folder from the other install of XP.

Is there any way I can get into the other installs Owner folder so I can access my data so I can burn it and copy it over?

Installing a new copy over the old one won't work, tried it, for some reason it just gets stuck in a random loop at boot.

I recently had to format my cousins computer so I took her harddrive and brought it over to my house to my computer to move data from one partition disc to another. Upon doing so (in safe mode) I had to otherwise become the "owner" of these files before I could transfer. So it involved a lot of selecting and security switching. Once I was done transferring from one disc to another, I reformatted and installed Windows XP on the C: drive and kept the backups on the D:.

Unfortunately now when Windows XP starts (from the loading bar) there is a quick blue screen flash and then I am presented with the message to start Windows Normally or in Safe Mode (and all those other options). Once I start in safe mode, it works fine and I can select Administrator, Kim, or Sandra (all 3 are admins). I was wondering if there was a simpler way to just become the owner of Drive C: and D: without having to recheck all the files and folders again because it is very time consuming and I believe this is the only reason why Windows won't start properly (because I think it's only recognizing my computer and not her's since I became the owner of all the files now).

Any ideas?

Answer:How to become the owner of all folders/drives/documents

If the computer is not booting into the C: drive in normal mode, it is not because of the ownership of the files on the D: drive. The Windows Installation is not quite right on the C: drive. If you still have the backup on D: reformat the C: drive and reinstall Windows. Once Windows is installed and stable on the C: drive, and you have created your users, then restore the Backup from the D: to the various users you created on the C: drive.

So I have a really neat computer sitting here,
2500K, P8z68-v, samsung 830 64gb ssd, corsair vengeance 16gb, deskstar hdd, firepro v5800

I have a non-descript trendnet 56K v.92 dial up modem installed to pci slot1 on my mobo
The phone company says they can't get a quicker connection than 31.2 Kbps established to dial up users in this area.
The real issue is the data transfer rate.
I have seen it reach as high as 6.xx Kbps but generally hovers around 2.5 Kbps.
Now it is down to 1.xx Kbps and I took the last 48 hours downloading all the updates for windows and several other updates for hardware etc.
Now I need the ATI firepro update and 114 Mb will take over 16 hours at my average speed, and some 32 hours at the new slower speed.
I'm wondering if you guys have any recollection of dial up and all the time it took to do simple tasks?
If anyone has any suggestions I'll try them out.
Thank you all again,

Answer:dial-up update loading too slow-data transfer rate?

Have you considered getting satellite or wireless internet (that is point-to-point microwave, not running off cell towers)? It would be considerably faster. There's not really a whole lot you can do about the speeds with dial up.

Question: flacor.dat

Hello,

I read the following thread "Error loading C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Adobe\update\flacor.dat"

I'm not sure that I fully understood what was required as it appeared the user and helper were in the middle (don't think I saw the original thread or am just slightly confused).

I did download and run the MGTools and have a pretty large zip file. Please help and let me know what to do next. I have the flacor.dat issue everytime I start the pc. I don't want to attach the .zip file unless asked to do so.

Best,

Mike

Answer:flacor.dat

Welcome to Major Geeks!

MGtools is the last step. You need to do all of the below and then will be re-running MGtools at the end which is where it must be run.

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash dr... Read more

Whenever it is time to update Adobe Flash on my desktop I get this error message during the update process. I have to uninstall the program and then reinstall it directly through Firefox to get it to update. My laptop, which runs an Nvidia card, doesn't have this problem.

Is this normal system behavior? Is there a way to fix this so that the updates work the way they are supposed to? I have spent a lot of time researching the problem before stumbling onto this solution. But it should not be so hard to update Flash.

Answer:Adobe flash update: "unable to load application configuration"

The question in my mind is which version of the Flash installer the error is coming from. By that I mean, is it attempting to update Flash in Firefox or Internet Explorer? So, open this page in both Firefox and IE:

http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html

Many people forget to update Flash for IE, and if that version is borked up then it may be giving you the error you're getting and whatever you do with the Firefox version doesn't matter.

As a side note, are you using or have ever attempted to use Flash on 64-bit versions of either Firefox or IE? You probably haven't, but I'm just checking.

Hi, if anyone could help me with this, it would be great!

All of a sudden when I try to open my C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents folder, it says "access denied"

running xp home sp2.

any suggestions?

oh, I did a google for solutions and various pages often suggested I turn off simple file sharing, but the option is non existant under my file/view menu...

Answer:Access Denied to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents

It sounds to me as though the administrator has made that directory path private. Are you the admin, and if so, are you logged into a user account with admin rights? If all else fails, reboot and log into the Administrator account and go to the control panel/users and change your preferred account status. While you're there, unlock the problem path to allow all users to view.

Good Luck!

Hello everyone,
I'm from Portugal and i noticed that after windows 10 technical preview update i can't, no matter how, save my data settings on my phone.
When i go on settings, i click to add APN internet, then i use Vodafone data to costumize it. Always did that on my phone using windows phone 8 or 8.1 and everything was working fine. Since i updated my phone when i click to save those Vodafone settings i still can't use my data connection to surf on internet. I see the 3G icon at the top but somehow i can't do anything on internet. Anyway, i noticed one thing, once i go back on settings i click on edit internet APN and some things are gone, everytime i save, when i go back there those same things are gone.
I know you're not Microsoft, and i will talk to them if this is just happening to me. I just want to see if someone has this same issue.
Well, thanks for reading this,
Hope i can get some feedbacks.
Best regards,
Fabio.

Hi all,

I've built another new PC, but for the first time I've installed a SSD to hold Win7 while all my data (in theory) will be held on my data drive (2 TB Hard Disk).

I've redirected most of my user folders just fine, "My Documents", My Music, Downloads etc. however when I installed my first game on this system, it's placing its saved games into "Documents"; note: NOT "My Documents".

Of course all my google searches throw back results for redirecting "My Documents" which is already done...

So is the "Documents" folder stuck in my user folder permanantly? Over the course of a year I don't doubt it will get very bloated with saved games, screenshots etc. so I really don't want it on my SSD drive and want to nip this problem in the bud if possible.

Basically is this possible to "fix" without relocating the entire "Users" folder?
p.s. Out of interest, I tried creating a "Documents" folder on my F: drive (my data disk) and it said that it already existed as "MY Documents"...Annoying

Answer:Documents vs. My Documents - Relocating folders off c: to data drive

Navigate to the start menu, Right click on Documents and assign a new location, By doing so, If your external HDD fails you will lose all your data.

Hello there folks. newbie here.

My win xp computer gives me this error when I boot up (but besides that appears to run fine)

error loading c:\documents and settings\profile\local settings\application data\uniPathEnum\dbMainlib.dll

now there is no unipathenum folder my application date folder and I have no idea what it is. I couldn't find any info online either. Google doesn't even have any lings for either unipathenum or dbmainlib.dll

Anyone one know what that's for, what could be the cause and how to correct?

Thanks.

Cap C.

Answer:upon bootup - error loading unipatheum\dbmainlib.dll from aplication data

Does the error stay on screen for you or just go away on it's own after it reports the error? You could trying running "sfc /scannow" in a command prompt window. START>ACCESSORIES> Right-click on COMMAND PROMPT and "run as administrator." You may have to just select "run as" and then it will open a window where you can select the admin account to run it from.

You might want to also run MSCONFIG from the RUN window and see what you have selected to run at start-up. You can deselect one item at a time and see which one is causing the message. Just make sure you understand what you are disabling on start-up. If you don't know, Google the start-item and see if it's an essential function.

Let me know how that goes for you.

Good day!

I pulled a hard drive from my windows 7 machine and hooked hooked it up to my windows xp machine to copy some files. In order to access them files I had to change the owner to my windows xp admin. When I hooked the hard drive back up to the win 7 machine it would not boot. I see the win 7 logo and then a black screen with mouse pointer.

Is there a way to re apply the previous owner using the windows xp machine?

Answer:Hard drive owner settings

How did you take ownership of the drive on the windows system?. File permission will not stop a computer from booting (at least not on a pc running xp). To answer your question using what ever computer is listed as the owner under disk properties, security, Advanced, owner. Grant permission to the USERS group for read/write permission in the security tab. In windows XP pro any User in the Administrators group can take ownership of any non system folder unless it is explicitly denied in the folder permissions under the security tab. If you have xp home edition reboot into safe mode and log in as the administrator.

Failed to save settings. An error occurred loading a configuration file. It gave no suggestions how to repair this. Can anyone help? I am on a HP 2009m PC with windows vista. I tried many web sites for advice but I'm not very computer savy. Maggie R.

Answer:Failed to save settings. Error occurred loading a configuration file. Help!

Hi, you could try a system restore. If this fails or is not available try this. Desktop items are stored in a cache, this can become corrupted causing what you see. To fix right click on the taskbar and select Task manager. When Task Manager opens under the Applications tab click on "new Task" type:- explorer.exe press ok. Your desktop should repopulate. At this time reboot your computer. If all is well then the problem is fixed if not:-

Repeat the task manager (as above) and new explorer.exe then follow this:-

Go to Start all programs accessories and right click on command prompt select ?run as administrator?

At the prompt type:- taskkill /im explorer.exe /f press enter
(Your desktop will go blank)

Now type each line and press enter after each line.
Note the spaces.

Hi, so I built my computer at least 3 years ago, and it's recently really starting to show it's age. It's started to be really unreliable, randomly crashing at times, and sometimes just deciding not to start up. For the most part these have all been relatively small issues that I could live with, but this time it's different.

About a month ago, one day when I tried to boot it up it would just stay on the loading screen for a few minutes, and then reboot. I tried it several times, it kept happening, and then all of a sudden it just worked. I have no idea what I did (since I didn't really do anything), but somehow it fixed itself.

Well it happened again yesterday, and this time I'm not so lucky. The computer boots up, goes to the loading screen, loads for a while, then freezes for about 30 seconds, and then reboots. The screen pops up informing me that Windows didn't shut down properly, gives me the different booting options, and then the process repeats. I've tried all sorts of things, searched around for solutions and nothing helps. Some of the things I've done are:

Disconnect everything (on the outside, not internals) reconnect, and reboot (I did this last time so I thought maybe that's what helped). No luck.

Select "Return to Settings that last worked Properly" (or w/e it says). Same thing.

Start up in Safe Mode. This time something weird happened. It got to the point where I could choose which account to log... Read more

I am running Windows 7 on my notebook, as the owner and admin.....
I try to access this folder, and I cannot...in fact it appears as a shortcut rather than a folder...i have run antivirus, and malware, found nothing....
tried to change the security....all users has rights to it, the admin does not and cannot be changed....any ideas?

Answer:C:\Documents and Settings\all users\documents DENIED!!!

It looks like one of the junction points that provides some backwards compatibility and which shows when unhiding files in Control Panel>Folder Options>View. There is no Documents and Settings folder in Win7, except as a junction point.

Read more about junction points here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...=vs.85%29.aspx

In Win7 Documents is under All Users>[User Name]>Documents. Perhaps you should hide Hidden and System Files again to see only the WIn7 folders you need.

Question: Adobe update error

I am getting error 1635 when trying to install the latest update.
According to their website it is a Win. Install registry problem.
I dont fancy doing their recommended registry fix, so can I just un-install Adobe with Revo and download Adobe again.?
Thanks.

Answer:Adobe update error

If you are not comfortable editing the registry then yes, uninstalling adobe and reinstalling should fix the problem.
I am not too familiar with Revo, however sometimes uninstalling an application will not remove all the registry entries so you could try running a registry cleanup to remove dead entries using something like ccleaner found here (direct download from file hippo found here). Just make sure you backup first! I use ccleaner regularly and have no problems but you never know. Better safe than sorry.

I have a used laptop and have removed all of the previous owner's data. I have created a new user. I have changed the owner's name in My Computer and in the registry. Everything works well and I can find all my new files in My Documents as I expect. However in C:\Docs and Settings\ there is a folder with the old owner's name. XP will not let me rename it or delete it and says it is "a Windows system folder and is requred for Windows to run properly". Apparently some part of XP is still using some files/folders in the old owner's name folder. How can I get around this so I can clean up my disk and delete the old owner's folder?

Answer:Can't Delete Old Owner File in Docs & Settings Folder

You could try Unlocker, download here (freeware).

Or you could temporarily disable Windows File Protection then delete.

I used to rarely get this error until a week or so back but I'm seeing this error for 2nd or 3rd time this week.. I used to usually get this could not be read error while running Avira (either when trying to update or prior to scan, after initiating one) but today I didn't even open Avira & got this...

is there a way to put a full stop to this msg ? And is this any cause of concern for me ?

Answer:update.exe - Application error

I am getting this exact error too since a couple of days back. I have no idea what is causing it. I am not sure if it is related to Avira, but I do have that same virus protection software installed as well.

Does anyone else know?

It says:

update.exe - Application Error

The instruction at 0x33e5a8 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be read.

Click on OK to terminate the programClick to expand...

But nothing ever closes every time this pops up?

Answer:update.exe - application error

update.exe - Application ErrorClick to expand...

That simply states 'some application" is trying to update and can't.

In the run box type msconfig and press enter. In the box that comes up, click on the Startup tab. Look over what is running. Is there anything that looks like an updater? If so, uncheck/untick it then close the box.

When trying to update to Adobe reader 8.0 or remove (add/remove programs) Adobe 7.0.9 (I believe it is) windows XP Pro with SP 2 gives the same message "Error 1402 can not access key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\classes\CLSID\{C523F39F-9C83-11D3=9094-00104BD0D535}\Programmable".

I have only one user account - Admin. I have gone into the registery and checked the permissions for this key and it has everyone or everybody. I opened a guest account and accessed the same key and tried to update and remove as above without success. The registery and user accounts are me weak areas so I might not have understood the user account information correctly or have set up the guest account correctly for permissions.

I have noticed the last times I have tried to update office 2003 the security updates for xcell and word have not taken and the junk email filter update for outlook has not taken either.

I am also wondering if I have mixed up the XP Pro upgrade that was used for my laptop and might have used it on my desktop (that came with XP Pro but couldn't find the disk due office relocation) for when I had to reinstall the os on the desktop due to having lost -somehow - the password to the log in screen. Is it possible that I am using the same OS key on both machines and that has been noticed by MS and this is the problem?

Or is it simply a matter of permissions and I don't know what I am doing? - see above. Or some other magic event missed when waiving the rubber ch... Read more

addition to Dave which still has all the information. I tried

gave an error message and didn't do it and started another new file.
Is there some way to use the old Dave file?

Answer:Lost settings, New user made in Documents and Settings

Hiya asd123321.

It sounds like you`ve re-installed the system from CD over the top of an existing system, giving you a fresh `Dave`. Have you recently run a repair or indeed, done a clean install ?

As a work-around, can you take the documents & favourites from the old `Dave` and put them in the new `Dave` so at least you`re back up and running again.

Hi guys, I just upgraded from win7 to win10. Smooth upgrade, but I noticed all my textfiles on my desktop and sticky notes from win7 disappeared. So I decided to restart my pc. What I noticed is on the bottom right of the screen as I reboot, it says something along the lines of "Unable to access data and documents because you are not signed in. Please sign out and re-sign in". I also notice that anything I do on thje computer gets reverted back to default after the computer is shutdown/rebooted. Now the odd thing is that my computer is called "HP" even from windows 7. So even after I sign out and sign in, I can only see "HP" as an option and no "Guest" or anything else. But even logging in as "HP" still won't recognzie me as the owner. PLease help. Thanks!

Answer:Upgraded to Windows 10, won't recognize as owner, settings dont save

Yes anything that was on your Windows 7 install will not transfer over to 10, unless it is programs and documents in folders that the OS install is set by Microsoft to transfer over. Microsoft has deemed prior editions of Windows incompatible with Windows 10, so you see a lot of issues crop up when you do a in place install. Always do a clean install, never let Windows update. The update would have been pending for reboot after idle. It is easy to stop the install if people just kept an eye on what they allow to be downloaded by Microsoft Update on the prior and current version, along with shutting down their device when not using it, instead of leaving it running and to go into sleep which can be woken up when Windows checks for updates.

As for logging in. You have to use a Live account with your email and a password. Otherwise you have to use a Local account. It is easy to go and fix if you download the Windows 10 PE and install on a USB stick.

Answer:Owner/Local Settings/Temp Folder - Unknown File

Some files are locked by the operating system or locked by running programs during use for protection, so scanners cannot access them. Files that are located in password-protected archives may also be locked or denied access. When the scanner finds such a file, it makes a note and then just skips to the next one. That explains why it shows as "skipped" or "Access Denied" in some anti-virus or anti-malware log scan reports. Similarly, when attempting to delete such a file manually, you may receive a message indicating it is in use or a warning that it is a protected. For more information about this, please refer to How to Delete/Rename a Stubborn File. Several utilities are suggested for dealing with stubborn files to include Unlocker. Please download Unlocker and save to your desktop.Choose the default installation folder C:\Programs Files\Unlocker, click "Next" then click "Install" and reboot when finished.Navigate to the file or folder you want to delete.Right-click on it and select "Unlocker" from the menu.If the folder or file is locked, a window listing of lockers will open.Click to highlight the file path and choose "Unlock all". (make sure "no action" is chosen in the program)After you unlock it, right-click on the file and choose delete.Note: When you are unsure about a suspicious or unknown file, you can rename it by adding .vir after the file's extension (i.e. badfile.dll.vir). Hello,
I started getting this notification occasionally.
"the instruction at 0x7368e5a8 referenced memory at 0x00000000. the memory could not be read.
update.exe - application error"

The only changes I had made to the system before this appeared: I uninstalled AVG Free and installed Avira Free Antivirus. It also installed another program (forgotten the name- an internet security app) which I uninstalled.

I Googled this notification and one of the the searches suggested running Security Task Manager 2.1 for update.exe apps. I did this and it found many examples. But I did not know what to do with the results.
I have attached a couple of screenshots of this program.

Since then the system has slowed to a snail pace. It takes minutes for Chrome to load, login and bring up my home page. Other programs are equally sluggish. CCleaner has stalled and after hours had not completed cleaning.

Do you have any suggestions as to what might be wrong and what might be done about it? Thanks.
John

Hi, I boot the machine, I get this window saying:
GoogleUpdate.exe - Application Error
The exception Breakpoint
A Breakpoint has been reached
(0x80000003) occurred in the application at location 0x00406eef

The mouse doesn't work. No response from the keyboard.
When I boot into safe mode (any version) I get a BSOD Stop error 0x0000007b.

Any ideas?
Thanks
Ned

My motherboard fried(possibly because of the fan stopping),and I had to get a new one-that's where the problems began.First, there was a problem with the administrator password, which nobody using the computer put in,but my friend got around that, and then blue screen and not possible to access the computer, which was owner's password protected. The message is"access denied".My friend made an image of the drive, and then tried to reinstall windows,do the recovery console, but it's not possible. The way it is now is that there is user account with the same name that it was owner's name, but there is nothing there which was password protected. The hard drive had 40 GB,of which I've used about 37 GB,and I had about 2 and some GB left, but now it shows that there is about 35 GB used and about 4GB free, but only about 10GB is accessible. How can I access my harddrive when it denies the user's password, which worked fine before the crash and motherboard change?I believe that my friend said that there is too many hardware changes and windows doesn't recognize it.
Any ideas will be appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

Boot with your xp cd [cd set as first boot device in the bios] Choose install from the first menu. The next menu will show any previous xp installs and give you the option to repair the install. Choose your original xp install and let it repair for you.

After a repair install you will need to reinstall all updates, service pack 2, etc.

BTW you cannot just change a mb and expect the system to boot. Sometimes it will and sometimes it will not. If proprietary chipset / mb drivers were installed, it will not boot.

Hello from a new member and new win 10 user.

I had an XP machine that died and replaced it with a new Win 10 pro machine.

I moved the old external data drive to my new computer and now have had lots of "you're not the owner" and "contact the administrator or owner" issues. I often get "you require permission from DESKTOP XXXXXXX" messages.

The big issue is that I can't even open my password saver program with all my passwords.

I have tried for weeks to search the web for a simple solution. No Joy.

We have tried the "Properties/security/ blah blah blah " fixes with no success.

Also tried applications such as "Take Ownership."

It seems lots of folks have similar problems, but I can't find the magic bullet.

I'm very sorry to ask the same old question, but we're at our wits end here.

I'm obviously not a network administrator or win 10 expert, but I can read and follow instructions so please help this old farmer.

As someone once said: "Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, You're my only hope."

Thanks in advance folks,

Ken
