I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Malware logs, firefox freeze, comp slow, internet explorer slow

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this aother user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:

Don't Bump! It Only Hurts You!!!
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

Hello,

For the past few months Firefox as well as my whole system in general has been running slower then usual. I'm also noticing a drastic performance deceleration in games from a fresh install to now.

Firefox tends to crash after 20 or so minutes of usage and when I look in the task manager it's using around 200 mbs of ram and 99 CPU. I've also noticed clicking on links after searching in Google doesn't bring up a result.

Here is a fresh Hijack This log for more information.

Internet Explorer runs painfully slow, some random pop-up windows at a low frequency. Firefox seems ok. Overall slowdown in computer performance.

Ctrl+Alt+Del shows Iexplorer.exe running with High Ram usage all the time.

So thanks to my college's "resnet" security log-in program that they make you go through before you are allowed to access the University internet connection, I am without access. This has been a prolonging problem for a while now, but I was able to bypass it do to the wonderous alternative known as Firefox. The problem is, the security program automatically launches into IE, I have no control over it (that I know of). Here is the problem:

Believe me, it's had me scratching my head forever. Alright, so it's pretty simple. Every time I open Internet Explorer my computer slows down incredibly while it's trying to open, and then often freezes. The IE browser opens up, the screen stays white, and at the bottom left the status says "finding site/start downloading site..., etc" and just comes to a next to stand-still. When this happens I have two options: Either A.) Click the x, wait for the End program box to appear, press End Program and wait for a half hour beofre it gets back to the desktop, or B.) Manually shut her down.

Also of note, Ctrl-Alt-Del simply doesn't come up when you press it after IE has been opened. If I already have it up before I try to open IE, I am able to easily click on End Process and get my computer back to normal in about 30 seconds.

Now this happened originally about 2 months ago. Luckily, I just converted over to firefox and went on my business. However, about 2 weeks ago I decided to give IE another try... Read more

Answer:Internet Explorer Problem - Slow/Freeze

For the record would this help? Or should I try typing this into the registry?

1. While you are logged on as an administrator, click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Locate the appropriate registry subkey, right-click the IsInstalled (REG_DWORD) value, and then click Modify.

To reinstall only the Internet Explorer 6 browser component on Windows XP, use the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}
4. Change the value data from 1 to 0, and then click OK.
5. Quit Registry Editor, and then install Internet Explorer 6.
6. To reinstall Windows XP updates, visit the following Microsoft Windows Update Web site:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/)

About two days ago IE began running slow. I did several speed tests to check my DSL "lite" connection and it came within the acceptable range. I installed Firefox and it runs faster but not as fast as IE used to run. Specifically, the pages are slow to load and the links button pictures are very slow to load. Sometimes the pictures never load and the blue bar, I don't know the name, at the bottom right of IE just stops about midway. I have run Hijack-This, l2mfix and Ewido in safe mode with restore off and nothing happened. There were a couple of files in the Hijack-this file that were unknown to me and I left them alone. Please see the log file attachments. Please help

Internet explorer taking too long to load up (minutes to load page). Can not go to links once the page opens. The new tab or window will take forever to open, but almost always can not open a site in the tab. Sometimes, I can open new pages quickly, but sometimes not. Note - I already posted this issue in the Malware section, however I'm not sure if it's malware related so I figured this may be a more appropriate home for this thread.

Hello all! Thanks in advance for any help you are able to provide.

Within the last 6 or 7 days my laptop has begun exhibiting the following symptoms:

* Startup takes an extremely long time (sometimes nearly 10 minutes for everything to finish loading, and the only things loading at startup that I know of are Zone Alarm Pro, SuperAntiSpyware and Eset Nod32 Antivirus) and the Windows XP theme music skips on startup as if the CPU is straining
* Shutdown takes an extremely long time and error messages appear requiring me to manually close certain processes before the computer can shut down
* The computer is not capable of playing music or video files as they skip horribly, making them unwatchable.
* The computer just runs slowly in general, as if the CPU is being overworked.

I don't remember specifically downloading anything before the onset of these issues. The computer is mainly used for homework (Excel, Word, Microsoft Project, Google Earth, Google Sketchup, etc.), personal computing (surfing the internet, email, listening to music, watching movies) and light music production (FL Studio 8). I know the system isn't exactly a powerhouse, however I had never experienced any of these symptoms before this last week. I have gone through all the steps in the Malwar... Read more

Startup takes an extremely long time (sometimes nearly 10 minutes for everything to finish loading, and the only things loading at startup that I know of are Zone Alarm Pro, SuperAntiSpyware and Eset Nod32 Antivirus) and the Windows XP theme music skips on startup as if the CPU is straining

Shutdown takes an extremely long time and error messages appear requiring me to manually close certain processes before the computer can shut down

The computer is not capable of playing music or video files as they skip horribly, making them unwatchable.

The computer just runs slowly in general, as if the CPU is being overworked.

I have gone through all the steps in the Malware Removal Guide, as well as the corresponding steps in the Windows XP Cleaning Procedure, however it did not resolve my issues. My logs are attached, and my system stats can be found below. Thanks again for... Read more

My internet explorer was not connecting to the internet even though i have great internet connection and no firewall was blocking it at the time. Even when it did connect it ran extremely slow. Mozilla Firefox ran much better than Internet Explorer, but still was running very very slowly. I thought I had a virus or some spyware so i ran norton antivirus, as well as pc tools spyware doctor and it detected that i had some trojan viruses so i deleted them. Then i ran Ad Aware and Spybot and they detected that I had some malware so i also deleted that. Also, everytime I run Ad Aware it detects some tracking cookie file even though i delete it every single time. And sometimes there is a window that opens in Firefox about scanning my computer for malware and i have to exit the browser. Any help?

I believe i have a virus of some sort but it won't delete. Firefox is the only thing that goes slowly on my computer. Everything else runs fine. Any ideas why this is so and how i can stop this. When i open sites like google and youtube the pages load okay, but when i try to open pages like myspace and facebook it takes 10 plus minutes.

Answer:Firefox problems, internet very slow (malware, spyware, virus)

Hello,

I am having a few problems with my maching that I want to get resolved.

Firstly, I keep getting a some IE7 popups when I am logged on to firefox. These popups are usually related to whatever page I'm on in fireforx (i.e. if I'm on nfl.com on firefox, the IE7 pop-up will be something about sports). I don't use internet explorer and recently started using Chrome to combat this problem but Firefox is my preferred browser.

Second, my Firefox keeps freezing when I do try to use it and it has gotten progressively worse over the past week. Previously, I could use firefox despite the IE7 pup-ups but now firefox usually freezes or hangs for a few minutes. It seems to be working now as I am using Firefox to post this message.

Thanks for any help you can lend me.

I am working on my sister's computer and she said she had trouble with IE11 (Windows 7). I now see it. I cannot navigate to save my life. I thought from what she described, she was needing her Java updated along with Flash player. I cannot even update either one. It tells me that file was not downloaded, retry.

I switched over to Firefox and everything went like clockwork. So, she really wants to use Internet Explorer. I researched and Google searched to no good answers. There was a "Microsoft 'Fix It'" but of course since I cannot download it, it does me no good.

I thought, well, I will just uninstall IE11 and resort back to IE10...Nope, same problem....

Any help would be great.

All Windows 7 updates are completely up to date!

Hi,

My mother-in-laws computer is running very slowly, both opening windows, folders and the internet. She is running AVG, but I have a feeling that there may be stuff that is affecting the overall running. In Startup, there are a couple of items with just squares. Tried deleting them, but they come back.

Had to get onto the right computer to post this.

Hi. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The problems show up under two scenarios:

1. First scenario (slow development of problems): Simply having Firefox open for too long, 45 min. to 1 hour -- URL's start opening slower and slower. Then they stop opening at all. Then Tor ceases to respond to directions (such as USE NEW IDENTITY). Then computer won't respond to shut down directions and must be hard booted.

2. Second scenario (fast development of problems): While editing a blog in SSL through Tor, saving changes quickly becomes impossible (though autosave works longer). Finally error message on save attempt: SSL_ERROR_BAD_MAC_READ. Then Tor doesn't respond, CPU doesn't respond and hard boot necessary for shutdown.

Problems showed up from one day to the next after opening unscanned graphics. Avira, Spybot, Ad-aware detect no problems. What to do, what to do? HijackThis log:

My Firefox works sort of fine. Everything is normal and the pages/tabs still pop up but if I'm trying to access what seems to be random site links I get redirected to shopping sites, housing sites, google hiring sites, etc. If I right-click the 'back' button it shows me that, instead of just following the link I clicked, my page jumped like two, three, four pages. =/
IF I'm able to copy the link address into the address bar it works fine, but this thing is getting tiring.
Along with this annoying bug, my computer which is barely two years old(Dell), seems to be running insanely slow. I'm on top of watching my processes on the taskbar and there's nothing extra or things that I don't know running on there and my virus scans seem to not pickup anything. I've defragged, scanned, deleted programs, everything that I could think of. I'm ready to look up how to nuke this thing and start all over.

Any help would be very appreciated.

Question: Malware/Slow Comp

My mom recently had her computer fixed at Best Buy (Geek Squad) due to it over heating...

When she went to pick it up they said they fixed it (for free due to warrenty) but that she had tons of Malware on her computer that their virus scan picked up and wanted to charge her over $100 to remove it. She declined and we bought it home and ran her Trend Micro on it and it found nothing. But it does run very slow and I've ran alot of clean up on it as this site suggested. I told her about this site since I was recently helped here with a problem on my netbook.

I've ran Malwarebytes and it found nothing also...

My Acer A)722 iws running extremely slow and sometimes not responding.  I by mistake let it upgrade to Windows 10.  Sice my wife hates it, it is slow, and frustrating.  Is it an option to wipe it and reset and try to install windows 7 like it was before.  I know it i porobably a pain to do a reset.  It is an older model and maybe it would run better.  Help please

If your hidden recovery partition is still intact, you can upgrade back to Win7. Follow these instructions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2xoMEPfiPQ Jack E/NJ

My computer has been slow lately. It lags and I figure I have spyware and such on it. I have ZeroAds, The Ultimate Troubleshooter, Norton System Works, and Norton Antivirus. It's a little quicker since I installed and updated these, but still not much better. I wasn't sure if these programs got rid of spyware or anything or if I should try some different software. Also, I wasn't sure if having all these programs to try and clean up my computer would counteract eachother and slow down my computer. Also, the time it takes to boot up my computer is a lot longer than it ever has been. Finally, my Internet Explorer doesn't work right. If I use AOL, the internet usually works right, but when I try Internet Explorer (because I don't have AOL at school), I get tons of popups even though I have ZeroAds and then Explorer just freezes and eventually I have to CTRL ALT DELETE it. If anyone knows how to help me it'd be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Slow XP, slow startup, and problems with Internet Explorer

Use Ad Aware (http://www.ad-aware.com) and Spybot S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html). Make sure you update them with their update feature.

Answer:Slow Comp, Firefox Not Working, Trojans

Hi welcome to tsf!

if you still need assistance,

you're using an older version of hijackthis..

Please click Here to download HijackThis to your desktop.

Click the Download button. When the Trend Micro HJT install box appears, double click on the HJTInstall.exe. Click on Install.

It will be installed by default here: C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis

A shortcut to the application will also be placed on your Desktop.

The program will open automatically after installation.

You can double-click the icon that was placed on the Desktop to run subsequent HijackThis scans or you can use the icon inside the folder. The folder HijackThis is where you will find the HJT logs that you save. When you use the application to remove anything, you will also find the backup copies made by HJT inside this folder.

Click on "Do a system scan and save logfile" When the log pops up in Notepad, copy and paste that file back here.

Hi,
This is another Pc that I'm messing with for my girlfriend. I did the logs and pretty much nothing came up. When she gave me the laptop to mess with, it definitely had something on it. I went into the HP recovery app and I ran that, and got it back to day one. The laptop seems slower now than before, but nothing under the malware logs. Except something when I first loaded MWB it got a trojan and Anvira kept intercepting some trojan.

None the less I did the Read me and here are my logs. Much appreciated!

Answer:Slow PC, possible malware. Logs inside.

Here is the .zip from the Mgtools ( HJT )

I see in the XP cleaning procedure that it says if I'm not having problems continue on. I dont think I'm having problems, but I'm still having that lagging/slow running going on. Should I go and do the rest of the procedure?

Just recently my computer has been running slower than usual. Programs like Firefox take longer to load and I get a few pop ups. My AVG virus protection found "Trojan horse IH and II" and also "Exploit Rogue Scanner. type 871 ". Periodically AVG finds a virus and when I click "Move to Vault" it states , "File not found" as if the virus/malware is hiding. On start up I get a RunDll message saying, "c:\windows\system32\sevohaka.dll" not found. Maybe that means something to you. Thank you in advance for your help.

Answer:Slow Comp/Pop ups/Malware alerts

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools.
How to disable AVG

Please open the AVG 8 Control Center, by right clicking on the AVG 8 icon on task bar.

* Click on Tools.
* Select Advanced Settings.
* In the left hand pane, scroll down to "Resident Shield".
* In the main pane, deselect the option to "Enable Resident Shield."
* To re-enable AVG 8, please select "Enable Resident Shield" again.

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

Hi
I have a HP Pavillion laptop running XP SP2 with a SP3 update.
Yesterday, my avast home free pop uped saying avast service GUI encountered a problem and needs to close. My login was also slightly slower. That being said, the avast logo in the taskbar disappeared. Also gone was the logo for my Spyware Doctor. I updated MBAM and did a scan which removed something. I rebooted and my problems were gone. A full scan of MBAM and Avast showed nothing. But I am still suspicious. Is there anything out of order? Thanks

My computer has been incredibily slow these past few weeks. When I try to play music, it lags and plays in slow mo. I can't even open my firefox browser. When my computer starts up, it's slow...and this windows installer keeps poping up as well as some error warnings. I've tried to clean my C drive and clear up my documents and uninstalled programs I don't use anymore. Also I ran a couple of scans from ad adware by lavasoft, avg antivirus, mcafee, malwarebytes, stopzilla (I heard this is bad...after I did it) and spybot S&D and all seems well...but why is my computer still slow?

I have a problem with my PC is very slow and sometimes gets stuck for a few secondsEven the internet browsing often freezes for a few seconds before opening a new page.
Initially I thought a cleaning problem I used ccleaner to clean up the disk but nothing has changed .After reading  another forum I tried to do a scan with panda cloud antivirus but, after download, I start the scan program the PC always reset.
I have installed avira professional that is always updated and comodo firewall
The scan with Avira has detected a problemC: \ Documents and Settings \ Compaq_Proprietario \ Application Data \ Thunderbird \ Profiles \ b1kh4bjy.default \ ImapMail \ in.alice.it \ INBOX
[ DETECTION ] Contains detection pattern of the HTML script virus HTML/Infected.WebPage.Gen2
[WARNING ] The file was ignored .

But the inbox file has the date of 2011 and never before been reported as a virus.
Sometimes after a long freeze ( 30/40seconds)appears a windows error message and tell me that a program will be closed ( I think it is avira web protection) but PC continues to run.

sorry for the bad explanation, but unfortunately I have not identified a specific problem only a random slowing.

My PC is Win XP SP3 with Avira Professional antivirus - Firefox Browser

Answer:PC random freeze for few seconds and firefox slow

Update:

Situation degenerate...
In all web page  some word appear in green and have a double underline When mouse pass on the word autmatically open a new small window with Spyware removal info

I have downloaded Adwcleaner but after restart PC always start a windows installer program (and always I press cancel for stopping it)

The avira mail service does not start and umbrella in tray icon is closed

thanks in advance  for help

A couple months ago I followed the procedures to remove a Virtumonde, however, after doing that my destop and Internet Explorer were slow. The individual helping me said it was a software issue and to start a thread in there. I finally have some time to take care of this!

I have already ran all of the read/run me first with exception to MGTools and MSConfig. All of the scans so far are clean. However, I have noticed my Sophos picking up a Troj Downloader?? the last few times I have been on my computer. I will patiently await your directions/assistance. Thank you!

Answer:Slow desktop, slow Internet Explorer

As it appears you have picked up another malware issue since they last helped you, you would need to start a new thread again in the Malware Forum and work through the Read & Run Me First again, posting the requested logs. Once your computer has a clean bill of health from the Malware Fighters we can start to work on the issue of the slow desktop and IE.

Until we know it is clean there really is no benefit in working through the slow issues you are experiencing as they could be directly related.

Once you are clean, come back to this thread as soon as possible so we can work on this issue before you risk getting any further malware

Answer:Malware? Dead slow comp. Help appriciated.

Hi

With the popups do they have names associated with them if so what?

To start the process of removing malware plese follow the guide below, while it looks long and hard its not as many many many users of all levels of knowledge have sucessfully followed it and what it does is cleans up your PC and highlights all the known malware that is likely to be on your PC, from the logs our experts can issue you some tailored removal instructions to remove whats left from the initial scans.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

I used this forum once a few years back and was very thankful. will be again I'm sure!

I need help with a hijacked computer. I have run many things (WebRoot Spysweeper, Windows Defender, Window Malware Tool, MalWarebytes, etc). It did seem I had the fake Security Shield trojan, which I think is (partly?) gone, but now I get many warnings that I'm being redirected to these two IP's:67/201.36.16 and 213.174.157.39.

Hi all,

I was recently asked to take a look at a computer from a friend as he suspected virues... he was correct! I ran a search with Malwarebytes, AVG, Spybot Search & Destroy and also ran CCleaner.

These highlighted and removed a number of virues, malware etc. However the computer is particularly slow to load up... It hangs on the welcome screen for a substantial period then once it gets past there loads the wallpaper straight away but takes a while to load desktop icons & taskbar.

I don't currently have a XP disc or a boot CD.

The log files as requested are below:

Hi,

I have been facing this issue recently with windows file explorer slow, freeze and crash very often. I check from the task manager it gone to 50% of the cpu resources and even more and force me to kill explorer.exe from the task list. This is only when I browse my file, not opening any big files or any directory with photos.

But this will force me to restart windows in order to let file explorer to work again.

So, I have been trying to google it and the only solution is to provide a hijackthis log to an expert to help me with this issue.

Please kindly review the hijackthis log created with Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2.

Using 64-bit Windows 8.1 Pro with an automatically updated Firefox, currently version 40.0.2.

Start up Firefox and...nothing. Check Process Explorer and see Firefox is there. Try to start up TCPview and...nothing. Decide to go back to Process Explorer and kill off Firefox - before I get that far - SHAZAAM! - TCPview starts, Firefox responds with browser window - all as it should be.

This has been the behavior for awhile now, admittedly intermittently but none-the-less a relatively new bad behavior.

And the REAL problem is hinted at by that TCPview issue up above - Firefox is freezing the whole system solid after a moment or two (Process Explorer can be run within that moment and displays dynamic results, windows can be switched to, but new processes (minimal testing) apparently cannot be started in a timely manner).

There are other complaints around the 'Net noting this type of behavior.

So...anyone know the reason for such powerful failure? (this should slow Firefox itself, not the entire system)

Answer:Latest couple Firefox versions slow/freeze whole system

Quick followup - this may be an Avast problem, not a Firefox problem, based off of searching for symptoms on the 'Net.

Hello,

My grandfather has a new computer that he has managed to fill with crap by keeping "yes" checked for every download. The start up is terribly slow, programs run slow or dont run at all. I have went through the read and try me first and this has made the computer a little faster, but some of the programs pulled threats that I left on per instructions so would like to see if anything else can be removed. Computer is still a little slow.

Also, Norton Security Scan is loaded on and it will not come off. I have tried to uninstall through control panel and it just gets hung up on "preparing to uninstall please wait" and have tried the Norton Removal tool but it too does not work. Was planning on loading AVG.

Thanks,

I am having an issue with slow browsing regardless of what I am using - Chrome, IE7 or Firefox. However, Firefox is the only one that has begun to crash frequently. This problem coincides with redirecting to butterfly search about 50% of the time when do a search - also regardless of browser/engine. Any help in resolving this will be greatly appreciated. I'm a novice computer user, and my computer is running really slow. It also keeps getting 'confused' and stops responding inmmany different programs, IE the most, so I have to have the task manager end the task. My computer sometimes acts like it is busy, with my programs taking a LOOONG time to open or do something, but the task manager says there's nothing else going on. Everytime I restart my computer, Spybot tells me there have been registry changes, either with a 'boot execute' change and a lot of unreadable garbage as the change or saying 'excludefromknowndlls', which I have been denying if I can. Also, I use Ad-Aware 2007 and Spybot-Search and Destroy, as well as Avast and CCleaner, but was using Norton when the problem started. When I run Spybot, it comes up with a few minor things, but everytime I tell it to fix the problems, Spybot shuts down without fixing anything. It just closes. I ran Ad-Aware a few days ago, and it came up with a threat about a Win32 Trojan or something like that. I've run it again a few times, but it hasn't found that again. Please help! I think I have a virus, and any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

As of last week my internet seems like its been going off and on. When i start it up it takes a while to goto my homepage ( google.com ) and then ill goto another website then it just won't load anymore! it will say connecting... at the bottom and then finally it will start going for another few seconds then it will stop connecting again. its very frustrating and annoying. i didn't change anything in my computer or cable so i assume its some kind of virus activity. I also noticed one day that when my internet goes off for a second as said before i go look at my cable box lights and theyre all off..then all the lights go back on and it goes again for another few websites then the lights go off again.. i don't think its doing it anymore but thats just something i saw.

Okie dokie, so I've been making a really concerted effort to get the malware off of this computer and I think I'm making headway, but it is not there yet. For a long time, I have been unable to update my Windows XP Media Center. I am not even on Service Pack 2 yet. This has made it difficult to run some new software and malware is now blocking me from even loading the update.microsoft.com page. Before the malware problem got as bad as it is, I was able to hit update.microsoft.com, but the system just died every time I attempted to install an update.I have tried downloading the exe file from microsoft.com for "if your update does not work automatically" on another comp and copying it on a card over to the problem one, but this does not work.In addition, I can't install the new IE 8 and I can't entirely remove the old IE 6. I have used the Control Panel uninstall Windows Components, but the files are still on my drive and iexplore.exe is often running in Task Manager, no matter how often I close it from there. I have tried manually deleting the files, yet they reappear. I have tried going through regedit and manually deleting anything which remotely referred to IE, although one key I think reappears when I do this. Regardless, the files reappear and I cannot upgrade to the current version. This week the system installed the AntiVirus 2008 infection when I was not even seated at the computer and, for some time, it has periodically started popping up adverts. It also did t... Read more

I've just connected my second computer up to my ADSL modem and the internet is very slow. Slower than a dialup connection. The other computer which is connected up to the same modem works as good as ever.

My first computer is a 98 machine 500Mhz connected to the internet via a USB port, external ethernet adaptor and then into the modem using RJ-45 connectors. this has worked well over the past few months.

My second computer is an XP machine with 2.4 Ghz processor. I have just installed an ethernet card to network the two computers. I have used a category 5 cable with RJ-45 connectors to connect between the modem and the ethernet card. The internet works on the second computer but is very slow. I think some settings must be wrong but I don't know what to do.

My modem is a speedtouch510 and has 4 RJ-45 connectors at the back to connect 4 computers.

Thanks
Steve

Answer:Slow internet with 2nd comp using ADSL

I can only guess that it's something like the MaxMTU size is wrong for the ADSL connection. Try cruising to SpeedGuide and downloading TCP Optimizer to setup the optimum MTU size.

My computer and my internet have been slower lately then they have been in the past. Also, I cant search my computer for files and a program I have called Cool Edit Pro can't open up because it cant find the Temp folder. I've ran Adaware and Antivir but I can't get Housecall to work. Answer:***Comp and Internet slow...PLEASE REVIEW LOG***

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below. Also if you have any programs that may prevent system changes (like Spybot's TeaTimer program, Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, and others), make sure you disable them before doing any of the fixes (or accept the changes for the fix we give you when asked by the programs).

Go to My Computer->Tools (or View)->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders (it's Show all files for Windows 98).
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Make sure you downloaded, installed, updated and ran these programs (run in Safe Mode) already - Ad-aware, Spybot and Ewido (only if you have Windows 2000 or XP). If you didn't, do them now. For more information, go to http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode... Read more

My computer seems to be running fine but whenever I try and access the internet (with IE or Firefox or Chrome) it takes a really long time to load the pages and the processor sounds like its working overtime. I know there is no problem with the internet speed because it works fine on my iphone. I can't seem to send emails either.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Answer:Internet running slow - Logs Posted

Your problems may not be due to malware but we will dig a little deeper before deciding.

Did your problems begin before or after you installed ScanQuery which ComboFix deleted?

You should goto Add/Remove Programs and see if you can complete the uninstall of ScanQuery 1.0 build 117 powered by FIRST SEARCHBAR

Also uninstall Conduit Engine

I also suggest that you uninstall Vuze Remote Toolbar

You are several thousand database versions and at least 4 program versions out of date with Malwarebytes. You need to run Malwarebytes and first select Update to update to the current version and database. You may need to update the database again after the program is updated since you are extremely out of date. Then run a new scan and attach the new log just to be safe.

Now download TDSSKiller from Kaspersky to your directly onto your Desktop

Now double click the TDSSkiller.exe file to run it ( if using Vista or Windows 7 do not double click on it but rather, right click and select Run As Administrartor. )
If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it. To do this, right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. 123tdk.com).
If you do not see the file extension, please refer to: How to view hidden, system files & folders!

Allow the application to run if prompted by Windows or any security programs you have installed
It will start the scan and run rather quickly and will notify you of whether anything is found o... Read more

Hello,
Today, I was messing around with a PS2 emulator (PCSX2) on my computer, and when I decided to restart the computer to move some files (the file explorer was saying "this folder is in use by another program"), my computer took a whopping three minutes to boot! When I was finally in Windows, the file explorer was very slow (I had to refresh each time I moved something), the desktop had the same problem, the trash bin took about 5 minutes to respond, and the shut down button didn't work anymore. These problems all started at one moment, and haven't occured before. Other things like the internet and games worked just fine. Since, I've restarted a couple of times and come across to solutions for pretty much each individual problem. But I haven't come across a solution for all of these problems at once.
I built this system myself, about a month ago. My specs are: Intel i5-6500, Sapphire RX480 Nitro+ OC 4G, 8GB Crucial RAM, MSI B150M Mortar, Crucial BX200 240GB SSD (Windows is installed on this drive) and a 1TB WD Black Caviar HDD. If you need any other specs, I'm happy to provide. I am at a loss as to what to do!

Answer:Slow boot, slow file explorer, slow trash bin and no shut down

Welcome to the TenForums.

If you could describe messing around. Were you dual booting to this emulator or did you visualize it within Windows?

If in Windows, assuming you have restore points enabled, I would perform a system restore to an earlier time.

Assuming that goes well I would look at Macrium Reflect to Image your system , at least your boot drive. You can run regularly so you versions of your boot drive.

If you were dual booting let the forum know.

Hello,

My computer has been running really irregularly. When I close or minimize any window, the application does actually close or minimize, but I can still see it. It's like there's a shadow of every window I close. It won't go away until I open something new. I can use that windows to "erase" the shadow of the window that was once there--weird!!! Also, sometime the icons on my desktop don't work or just disappear altogether. I have to restart the computer, which takes forever. My internet exploror is slower than usual, many pages freeze. Often, it doesn't respond. I've run all of my virus scans, spybot, trend mirco, panda software, and a whole bunch of other suggestions from other postings...to no avail..

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Cecilia

oh yeah, this is my computer:

System:
Microsoft Windows XP
Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

Manufactured and Supported by:
PC
Intel(R)
Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz
2.39 GHz, 448 MB of RA

Answer:Slow comp, internet, disappearing icons

Try SysTweak's System Optimizer.
Ofcourse create a restore point and backup registry before that.
Hope I helped

I have a Linksys BEFSW11S4 ver. 4 router directly connected to my desktop and I connect with my laptop wirelessly. My problem is that the browsing speeds on my desktop are very slow. Webpages will take 15-30 seconds to load, while the exact same site will load instantly on my laptop as normal. Oddly though, when I run a bandwidth speed test I will get the same good results with the desktop as I will with the laptop.

However, certain speed tests will time out and not even start. This timing out seems apparent on the internet, maybe... because sometimes the page won't do anything for 15-20 seconds, and then pretty quickly load up all of a sudden. Again, this is all completely on my desktop only, the wirelessly connected laptop is completely normal. Also, I don't know if it means anything, but when I cycle my DSL modem and restart, sometimes the internet will go normal speed for about a minute... then back down to slow. I'm not sure if this is a malware issue, but you can hopefully help me in some way!

I have run everything in the Read and Run first sticky, and I have the logs attached here and in the next post. Thank you for any help!! This is very frustrating.

Answer:Read & Run First logs attached: Slow internet on desktop only

[MGlog attachment] Thanks again!

Answer:Comp running slow......user switch exremely slow

Hi and welcome to TSF! I will say right off that Norton (aka the resource HOG) is probably your biggest issue. There are a few things to clean here though......

This took me one Google search to find:
msnappau.exe is part of the Microsoft MSN toolbar system, which initiates an update facility for the MSN downloadable toolbar. Disabling or enabling this is down to user preference.

Perhaps this is a hardware issue? Not sure, thats why I am requesting help from the experts...Thank You for your time with this problem. I did remote assistance yesterday with AT&T and no problem detected. Connecting to Internet has become hit or miss. This AM, logged in( F8 ) found link for "open last known restore" and now able to access Internet, using Opera browser and 15 minutes later here I am at TSG. While trying to open TSG page in the address bar to the right I see (12/14 elements) and it freezes there, if I hit stop and then refresh it continues, so something seems to be bogging this action down. I tried to do System Restore, can't go back to last month...MBAM says:files missing or corrupt, then asks me to update and can not connect to the server, can not delete from Add/ Remove....Does TSG allow Remote Assistance?

no, only via posts on the forum

how is the machine connected to the router - wireless or cable
try this
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Safemode with networking
with a cable connected from PC to router
check the cable - see if there is a light on the router associated with the cable port used , also check if you have a green/yellow light on the PC LAN port
- try safemode with networking
as the PC starts keep tapping F8 - a menu appears - choose
safemode with networking - see if that works

I think I may have/have had the consrv.dll virus.  I started having some issues and ran Trend Micro on my machine and didn't see anything really come up.  I downloaded AVG and then EVERY application on my computer hung including the task bar.  The mouse would still move, yet programs wouldn't respond. I could minimize them, but not bring them up.  When I say the task bar hung, I mean the clock displayed quit updating.

I force shut down the computer (holding the power button) and booted it back into Safe Mode.  I ran a complete AVG scan and it didn't really detect anything.  I've been running complete AVG/Trend Micro/MalwareBytes scans, and I've had the every program freeze issue crop up a couple more times.  Also, lately, my internet has seemed really slow.

Trend Micro will flag some cookies, AVG says I'm clean, and MalwareBytes hasn't found anything either.  Not sure where to go from here.

Best regards,
Fizziii

Edit: Trend Micro has this from 3/14/2013  File Name: consrv.dll.vir Threat: TROJ_SPNR.19BG12 Result; Quarantined.  Everything else it has listed is in the Spyware/Grayware section and listed as cookies that have been deleted.

I'm not sure if my computer is infected or if it's just getting old (about 4 years) but it's gotten incredibly slow just in the past couple months. My internet connection has begun to fail at random, but other devices (tablet, phones) still are connected just fine. I update and run malwarebytes daily but nothing is ever found. Today the wifi light on the actual hardware of the laptop would not turn on, and no internet connection could be found. Finally with some digging, and I don't know really what I even did, the connection came back. We did just get a "faster, better" modem from comcast a while ago which is when the problems seemed to start, but as I said before, other devices like phones or tablets have no connectivity issues.

I have a Gateway NV55C notebook running Windows7.

Thank you so much!

I've had this Dell Dimension 5100 for almost a year now, and everything has been flawless until recently. Now when I turn it on, it takes a long time to stop loading everything - it sits at the "Welcome" screen for 3x as long as before, then when the desktop shows up, it's only the wallpaper. Eventually the icons appear. After that it still takes quite a bit longer than earlier for the hard drive to settle down. Also, if I use standby, my computer becomes slower and less responsive (especially while surfing), eventually getting to the point where I just have to restart it. Sometimes it won't even turn off unless I hold the button down for 5 seconds. I have clicked on the "Turn Off" icon and left the house for work, only to return to the "Windows is saving your settings..." screen 9 hours later. Spyware/virus/HiJack scans produce nothing of significance. I have run WindowBlinds for months as well, with no issues until the same time recently when "the memory cannot be read..." errors started popping up. Re-install did nothing, so I no longer run it, and the errors are now gone. I'm at my wit's end. Any suggestions? Thanks a bunch...

Answer:super-slow startup, slow glitchy comp

Well when you have windowsblinds using it to make you a desktop that uses up quite a bit of memory and makes your computer take a while to start up. Also you might have quite a bit of stuff in your start up. To check this click start run and type in msconfig and uncheck everything you don't need in start up. If you want to make it easier you can get a tuneup utilities trial and use the start up manager and delete any and all start up entries you don't need as well as restore them if you need them later. Also you might need to run the registry cleaner that comes with the trial of tuneup utilities. It would be easier to install it and just click on the 1 click maintenace on the desktop if you installed it and checked the option to put it on your desktop. Here is the link to it: http://www.tune-up.com/download/tu2006/ all you have to do is enter you email address and click the button and it will download. If you need any further help just reply.

Hi, i am new at this, so bear with me lol

We have just moved our XP computer into the living room, and connected it to a 58kb dial-up connection. We installed AVG 8 and everything was running fine

Now we've installed Windows Live OneCare Family safety on the machine so we can monitor my borther and sisters internet usage.

Now, the computer runs extremely slowely, Windows Explorer continually crashes, meaning we have great difficulty opening My Documents, and My Computer or anything that requires Explorer to open

As well as this, now the internet is majorly slow... even for bloomin dial-up, we used to get at least 9kbps, but now its shot down to between 2.5 and 1.5 kbps

AVG is now continuously scanning... even outside of scheduled scans, and constantly wants to update :S

And finally, i have now noticed that small files i dont use very frequently have begun to dissapear from the system!!! music files, images, word docs etc.

We have tried defragging it, scandisk, using AdAware SE Personal 2005, AVG Scans, and they all come up with negligeable results.

As well as this, now the pc wont install files for Trend Micro Online scans to run... so we cant even work it out that way :S

I have a suspicion this could be something to do with OneCare, or Multiple Viruses in the system that have somehow hidden themselves from AVG

PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!

Hello,

My notebook has been temporary freezing everytime I open a folder or program. I have to wait few minutes before it upload to the notebook. Sometime it freezes forever and I cannot shut down. Another problem I have is that slow internet connection. It looks like it has been prevented to surf the web from IE or mozilla. Sometime access ok temporary.
I also can hear that some program is running from the background. When that happen, my notebook will freeze until the program stop. Then I can use temporary until it starts to run again.
I already run ADware, Spybot, CWshredder. All give clean bill. I submit below HijackThis log for your attention:

I have been experiencing strange issues on my laptop this past month. First off, I have to say I once installed a program called SSPro or System Surveillance Pro to see how it worked. I followed instructions on how to remove it, but I am not sure if files still exist that are causing problems. In addition, I ran an Panda Active Scan and had found a file called KillProcwin.A and also followed some other instructions on how to remove that. Anyway, I notice that my computer in general is very slow to start up. Then when I try to do Internet searches or simply click within a web page, it freezes up. I do Ctrl-alt-del when pages are not responding and have to end programs. I also notice that when I shut down my computer I see a message about having to end program hpcmpmgr.exe. I have tried to shut down/restart several times today. The last time I opened Internet Explorer I received a message, "Instruction at 0x7c910193 referenced memory at 0x1440db62. The memory could not be 'written.' Click OK to terminate or CANCEL to debug. This is becoming extremely frustrating so any help on these issues is much appreciated. Here is my DDS text and attached are the files you requested. Thanks!

Answer:Internet pages freeze and computer runs slow

BUMP, please. I am still experiencing issues, in particular with IE not opening at all, taking a very long time, and then freezing up. I have instead been using Firefox and do not seem to have as many problems. I just want to ensure these problems are not virus related. Thanks for your help!

Hi! I'm using a samsung  laptop with windows 7 32 bit os and  intel icore i3 processor  with 4gb ram.

The other week, I started experiencing this slow computer and browsing. Then I started to check on the processes and services that is running through the task manager. I saw that there is 100% cpu usage even if I am only using vlc. I ran rkill and it terminated one malware process called rezip.exe. I usually ran rkill whenever I feel like scanning my computer for viruses or malware then I use jrt, mbam and adware cleaner then emsisoft anti malware; and it's the first time I've encountered that rezip.exe being terminated by rkill. Then last week, as I did the same to somehow eliminate the malware, it detected a missing service called tbs. So in an effort to resolve this on my own, after I ran rkill, I ran jrt, then adware cleaner,  and mbam. but nothing was found. Then I started to search the internet for whatever the culprit maybe. I saw that a some malwares and rootkits can bypass an outdated program and enter your system so I have decided to download updates for windows. Over 3 days, I tried to do the same thing, but nothing was found and the win update downloader won't download anything and because of the length of time of waiting I leave my laptop on while I hope to update it when I wake up the next day. I also tried to download updates for NVIDIA  since it is my graphics driver and it always pops in the taskbar but I can't seem to download... Read more
