Question: Opinions on Kaspersky Active Virus Shield free

Hi Geeks. Hope you're all having a geeky day! Anyhow, I searched the boards here pretty thoroughly and couldn't find any Major Geek opinions of the Kaspersky Active Virus Shield now being offered free by AOL. I went to (another place) and read a bunch of ops, but was hoping for some 'critiques from the geeks.' (BTW I just coined that phrase.) I've read about licensing probs, and internet access probs after install, so I'm not gonna uninstall my AVG free just yet. Thanks in advance for any input.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Opinions on Kaspersky Active Virus Shield free

Kaspersky is a good program! I'm a little confused though! I thought AOL packaged McAfee as their antivirus program.

However, I would avoid anything that has been integrated into AOL's software. You would be better off having the real full package of software from the original creator.

So basically I only installed the behavior shield from the avast installation wizard. I was thinking having Kaspersky as my main AV along with avast's behavior blocker is a good set up. However, admittingly I am a novice, and I don't know if these two will clash. So far, everything seems to be going smoothly, but the WD notification icon is displaying that X and is saying I shouldn't have more than one AV installed. Thanks.

Answer:Using Kaspersky free with only Avast Behavior Shield installed.

I personally think it should work ok running these 2 programs if Avast is only enabled for behavior blocking.

Could it be true that, after Kaspersky which came in first, AOL Active Virus Shield which came in with exactly the same rating of 99.62% is now the second best AV, at least at "the overall ability to find a virus"?Apparently it is, according to a recent review - 'And The Best Anti-Virus is ...' - at Cybernet Technology News: Like many, I'm extremely wary of AOL, but since this new AOL AV is a Kaspersky product I guess it could be true. But could there be a hidden catch ...?Whatever the case this review seems worth looking at by those of us involved in fighting the good fight against the baddies.Best to all, scratcher.

Do you have AOL on your computer now? AOL is free but it is heavy with Ads. There are other free antiviruses available. It is recommended to ONLY have one antivirus program installed on your computer to avoid problems. The way I understand it the free Kaspersky that AOL offers is not fully functional. The link below is to a list of free programs. The top of the list is free antiviruses.

Looking into Active Virus Shield? reveals that it's an AOL branded version of Kasparsky 6 with a few features cut out, perhaps a few too many for my taste. click here as such it is a full AV product and should in no way be run with another such as avast! or AVG. Here are a few user reviews click here It appears to be a years license, what happens after that is unclear. It may be that you renew FOC or maybe AOL intend to have their all singing all dancing, do it all package click here up and running by the time the Kasparsky license expires.Despite the reduced feature list another very respectable freebie to choose from, well done AOL.

Any good, as I have been using AVG 7.5 antivirus for a while now but after my computer picked up the MBS bill trojan AVG would not update so i deleted it and downloaded AOL Active virus shield updated it ran a full scan and it found three infected files all of which i deleted and the computer now seems fine. Fingers crossed. My question is do many users of this forum use this AOL programme and it is any good compared to the other free antivirus programmes.

Answer:AOL Active virus shield is it ?

I used it for several months (until I restored my OS, which had AVG) and would have no qualms about using it again. It seems to be very light on system resources, is easy to use and very well behaved. It is actually Kapersky antivirus, rebadged and with a few features removed, which means it should have a good detection rate, but no antivirus will catch everything. If I had problems with AVG, I would happily install AOL antivirus again, in preference to Avast, or Antivir (which used to be my favorite, before they messed around with it).

Hi Geeks. I don't want to enter a debate about AV's. I just read a separate thread and appreciate everyone's opinion, but that's not why I'm here today.

I've been using AOL's (Kaspersky) Active Virus Shield since it came out and I'm very happy with it (no need to debate AOL's questionable EULA either.) Everyone has their opinion and that's great; I don't need dissuaded.

The problem is downloading the AOL Active Virus might no longer be available. I recommend this to all of my friends and anyone else who asks, but today I went to the source site (activevirusshield(dot)com) and it says AOL Active Virus Shield is no longer available.

Answer:Active Virus Shield

AOL recently (and quietly) actually discontinued the free "Kaspersky Based" Active Virus Shield.

About a year or so ago, AOL started offering the "Active Virus Shield" as a free anti-virus package based on Kaspersky AntiVirus. The company has now stopped distributing this software.

The free anti-virus software, which was based on technology from Kaspersky Lab, had been available for the past year on AOL's Web site, but it apparently was pulled some time in the past few weeks or so without any warning or fanfare.

As you mentioned earlier in your post; the Active Virus Shield web page now only shows the information: "We're Sorry! AOL Active Virus Shield is no longer available."

However, it appears that AOL has not abandoned its "free" AntiVirus initiative, but merely switched suppliers. It seems that AOL dropped the free Kaspersky anti-virus, and now offers McAfee product which reportedly provides Virus Protection, Spyware Protection as well as a Firewall.

AOL's free AV product is now McAfee VirusScan Plus, which was introduced last month as part of a new AOL portal, called AOL Internet Security Central. AOL also offers Internet filtering software for parents, as well as identity theft protection and pop-up blockers, through the portal.

Note: Their security page now offers a special edition of McAfee's Virus Scan Plus, free of charge.

Hi community!

I have been happily using Active Virus Shield, free from AOL since November 2006.

Since September 1st, the automatic update no longer works - I get a warning that Threat Signatures are not up to date (31 Aug 2007) & an invitation to update manually, which ends with "Updates not required" but the control panel still shows "Signatures are out of date".

I looked on the AOL/AVS site & found AVS is no longer offered, but nothing to say it was no longer supported.

Anybody have any more definite information?

Time to uninstall AVS & try AntiVir?

I have tried to remove Active Virus Shield in order to install PC-cillian. The new virus program tells you to that AVS must be removed before proceeding with the installation. However, when I or the program tries to remove it, I get a message that tells me that avs[1].msi cannot be found. When I try to remove it from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, I get a message, "This action is valid for products that are currently installed."

I contacted AOL. They told me to use Windows Clean-up Installer. I did that as well as run searches for AOL and Kaspersky, deleting every reference that was found. There are no longer any files that result from the searches and the Clean-up program apparantly did not get all of AVS removed. When I go to Add/Remove, I still get AVS coming up. Trying to remove it does not access the Change/Remove program, only gets the error message. I am experiencing the same thing with the AOL Advanced Toolbar. These AOL programs are harder to get rid of than a virus or trojan ... which is what they are I guess.

I have tried to relay this info to AOL but I am not getting any response from them since their initial reply (3 tries so far). Does anybody know how to get this AOL crap off my computer short of doing a reformat to the hard drive?

Hello, I had an account here under justagirl82 but I can't remember my login and my old email account was closed when I changed ISP's so I had no way to get my login info. So, I registered again.

Anyhow, to my question. What combination of free firewall/anti-virus/anti-spyware/anti-malware programs have you found to be most successful for protection without slowing your computer down too much?

I was using Zone Alarm & Avast for a very long time, but have been experimenting recently.

Just looking for opionions.

Answer:Looking for opinions on free firewall & anti-virus programs.

Since our main focus in this forum is really malware removal and protection, we really cannot answer your question exactly since we are not really testing all combinations. Also how programs affect performance can be directly related to your PC specs. In particular how fast the process is, why type of processor, how much RAM, and what version of Windows you are running.

So I still suggest that you post in the Software Forum for more discussion on this but I will say the new versions of ZoneAlarm will slow you down much more than in the past. AVG8 is also more resource hungry than older versions of AVG.

You have less chance of being hacked than Henman has of getting to a Wimbledon final so there is NO need for home users to pay for a firewall. There are many free ones about that are as good as paid for ones. I'm sure someone will put up a list of the freebies. There is no reasonable argument for home users paying for AV or a firewall (if they feel that they need one).G

i want to know the difference between kaspersky antivirus and kaspersky free . and what about this combo(KFA+ZAM premium+APPcheck free)+Malwarebyte antimalware on demand scanner . is KAV has antiphsing protection ??

Answer:Difference between Kaspersky Free and Kaspersky Antivirus

the only difference between KAV and KAF is that KAV has system watcher = behavior blocker. system watcher is one of the most powerful weapons of kaspersky that's why they charge you for that
they both have phishing protection

your combo looks OK to me. I can recommend that
but I don't agree with Malwarebytes because it seems redundant to me. zemana as the second opinion scanner is sufficient enough. It's realtime protection is different from its on-demand scanner. You will get better result with on-demand scanning than the realtime protection

Hi everyone,

Whenever I turn on my computer and it finishes loading I get an error message that says:

"Some components of ActiveShield are either missing or might not have been installed properly. Please reinstall ActiveShield.

If you have started your computer in safe mode, please restart your computer in normal mode to enable McAffee Virus Scan."

Shortly after that I get a second message box with msas2009.exe on it. Inside that second box it says, "msas2009.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." followed by "Please tell Microsoft about this problem" with the 2 options of "Send Error Report" or "Don't Send"

If I act quickly enough I can hit "Don’t Send" and then "Ok" on the McAfee box and maybe open a program or window or 2 but it always freezes up before I can really do anything.

I read somewhere that the best thing to do is to go to the control panel to uninstall McAffee and other antivirus programs and then to reinstall it but when I go to the add/remove list (if I make it to the list before the computer freezes) McAffee is not on the list to uninstall.

Not sure what to do. I downloaded a McAffee remover from some website but that didn't work because the computer froze during set up. I also researched and found that if I type "REGSVR32 MSXML.DLL" into the "RUN" box it should fix the problem after restarting. When I... Read more

If I click on it it brings up for me to select how I want this to scan my computer and to set up a time for automatic updates. Yet McAfee is no longer in my Add/Remove programs or in my programs.

Solution??? ~

I recently deleted mcafee virus scan ( I was going to purchase norton) but afterwards I decided to stay with mcafee
I went to reinstall it and I keep getting an error saying that active shield is missing some components or corrupted and to reinstall BUT IT WON'T

ALSO a script error

LINE: 944
ERROR: Object doesn't support this property or method: m_OBJSUBMGR.GETSUBINFO

can anyone help I currently have no protection please

Answer:mcafee active shield won't reinstall

You may not have removed MaAfee completely from your system and when trying to reinstall they are conflicting with each other.
Remove all reference to MaAfee and reinstall..
Not a bad idea to stay away from Norton.

I subscribed to McAfee Clinic a few weeks ago and with it you have to install Active Shield. It worked great until the first time I was notified of an update. When I went to update it a window popped up saying that there was an error in it or that it was installed improperly. So I uninstalled it and downloaded it again. This has been done several times -- uninstalling and downloading -- but each time the same window pops up. I have sent two e-mails to McAfee and have had no response from them.

Can anyone help with this problem? If not, I guess it's back to InoculateIt.

Answer:McAfee Active Shield error

I'll be honest with you. I really don't like or suggest McAfee to anyone. You may also find now that it's a pain in the butt to uninstall. If you want a good reliable AV then I highly suggest PC-Cillin by TrendMicro. It's easy to use and keep updated. McAfee AV if it's not causing problems now will definitely cause you problems down the road. It's real junk and McAfee is well known for bad updates that cause your PC to freeze and/or crash.

Please can somebody help.

I have AVG version 8.5 (Professional), and the tool bar is telling me that there is "Limited Protection", when going into the program and checking the box so that is it on, the tool bar will still say "Limited Protection", when going back into the program the box is unchecked again.

Can anyone shed any light to why AVG isn't holding settings?

Or can anyone tell me if this needs to be on?

This is running on a machine running Vista Home Premium

I have checked (just in case) that Windows isn't conflicting, but everything seems fine.

Any help would be very appreciated.

Hi ~~ I may be eating my words as I once said I LOVED McAfee! Now I'm having probs. I contacted McAfee's support - you guys are quicker in replies so I thought I'd check here, too. Any way AROUND uninstalling McAfee Active Shield? Here's what I wrote to their support:

I am having problems with Active Shield. My taskbar shows the red M and when I right-click, then choose Active Shield, the only option I get is "Run". When I click Run, it tells me that there was a problem starting the program, to reinstall Active Shield. When I close that window, I have a window that reads "Active Shield is now protecting your PC from viruses!" I have tried numerous times to reinstall Active Shield. When I choose Add/Remove programs, the only option I have listed is McAfee VirusScan and when I try to remove that it gives me an error saying the Network connection from which I installed it is unavailabe. McAfee Active Shield is NOT listed in my Add/Remove programs box. When I try updating Active Shield, it tells me it is up to date. HELP! I am afraid my system is NOT being protected as it should.

Any advice is appreciated! Thanks.

That's good to hear, McAfee can sometimes be stubborn to uninstall.

But now that you've gotten rid of Virus Scan, make sure you replace it with some other virus scanning software. You might want to get either AVG or Avast! (both freeware) to replace McAfee and maybe ZoneAlarm if you also got rid of the McAfee firewall.

Source - Windows 7 Kaspersky Lab releases technical preview of Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows 7 Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management systems, announces the release of a technical prototype of Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows 7.
Windows 7 is the next release of the Microsoft Windows operating system which will replace Windows Vista and is a step forward in the development of Microsoft operating systems. The new OS will incorporate enhanced reliability, greater efficiency, an improved interface and extended working features both in global and local information networks.
The technical preview is a complex solution for securing computers running under Windows 7. The prototype includes not only an antivirus component but an effective and fully functional firewall and anti-spam filter.
At the heart of the new technical prototype is Kaspersky Lab?s new antivirus engine which is even more effective at detecting malicious programs than its predecessor. The new engine dramatically increases system scanning speed thanks to improved processing of objects and optimized use of system resources, particularly on dual- and quad-core processor platforms. The unique product architecture ensures high productivity and one of the lowest uses of system resources in the industry.

Hi Everyone:

Kaspersky's firewall has the option to allow or block port 21 (FTP Server): does anyone here know if I can block this port and not have any problems, and will it increase the level of security?

Answer:Kaspersky Active FTP Mode....

When you want to copy files between two computers that are on the same local network, often you can simply "share" a drive or folder, and copy the files the same way you would copy files from one place to another on your own PC. If you do not use this type of sharing - you can safely block this port. I guess you do not use the FTP (File Transfer Protocol) You will not have any problems...and yes it will increase the level of security. However you can revert it at any time safely

I have a drive here on which I have spent about 7 hours setting up just the way it needs to be. I disconnected the drive and took it to another machine to do an image of the drive in the event of a major system crash.

Long story short: I didn't get to make the image before the partition simply disappeared. I put the drive back into the original machine and FDisk reports no partitions present.

I have downloaded the evaluation version of Active Partition Recovery and I simply want opinions from users of the program, if any are here, as to how good the program actually is before I spend the money for the full commercial version. (I don't know how much money I've wasted here on software that doesn't work.)

I have viewed the screens in the evaluation version and I do see my folder names and file names. In other words, it looks good.

Does any Active Partition Recovery user care to give any kudos or caveats?

Answer:(Resolved) Active Partition Recovery user opinions wanted

Well, I didn't get any replies and I decided not to wait any longer. I have been needing something like this for years and I guess it was long over due.

It worked with some limited success. It recovered the partition; but, it was not bootable. Nothing I could do would make it so. I finally reinstalled Windows 98 over the existing copy. It picked up all the old settings just as an upgrade should and made the drive bootable.

I didn't read the manual so I might have missed something that would have preserved the partition's bootability. I'll read it later.

This sure beat the alternative.

I have Internet Explorer 7, and was recently trying the 5-Step Process that is required under the HiJack-This forum. I got to Step 2, and have been stuck there for a while, because whenever I try to click the "Scan" button on the Panda Activescan page, it does absolutely nothing; no windows come up, and no indication that it was even supposed to do anything. I tried this website out in Firefox, and Yep, it brings up a window like it should, but then tells me that the scan itself will only work in IE.

So then I try another scan recommended to me, Kaspersky Online Scanner, and I encounter the same problem. I click the button, but it does nothing; no window and no indication that it was supposed to to anything. Again, I try it in Firefox, and it does work, but informs me that the scan itself will only work in IE. So then I try to go into Internet Options for IE, and disable Pop-Up Blocker. It does not change or help anything. I turn off the Phishing Filter for this website; still nothing. I go into the Security and Privacy tabs under Internet Options and raise the notches on some of the bars relating to Cookies and Allowed levels; these do not help either.

I also tried holding down Ctrl or Shift while clicking the Scan button, because this used to do something I believe, but it does not help in this case.

I am wondering why no windows come up at all when I click this buttons; I'm trying to get through the 5-step process as fast as possible, but I'm g... Read more

Hi and welcome

This may or may not be malware related...but I see that you have been refrerred here from the software section, so to rule out malware we would require you to follow thru the below then post back with the requested logs:

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given futher down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First. If TDSSserv is not found, just continue on with the READ & RUN ME.
TDSSserv Non-Plug & Play Driver Disable

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

I'm going to completely ignore your actual question and tell you, as someone who does tech support on USB memory sticks that to use them to back up important stuff is not a good idea. They are not built for long-term storage of anything, they are built and tested to transport files from one computer to another. Temporary storage and portability, in other words.

If you want to back up your pictures to something that won't crap out on you for no good reason just to spite you, burn them to a DVD. A USB stick is not a good back-up device. They're not built for that.

Some don't deal with XP Professional anymore, so those are not viable, and I cannot abide tributeware (stuff you have to pay for year after year). Avast Free Antivirus 17.4 is what I'm using in Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit and Windows Vista Business SP2 64-bit.
I select the custom install option so I can de-select all the extra features I don't need - which adds to the startup load.

Answer:WD or Click Free - Any Opinions?

I'm pretty sure Clickfree uses hard drives from another company in their externals. Without knowing who that is, I would probably avoid them and go with WD, which is a known quantity and a well-regarded manufacturer.

I don't know much about the software that comes with those things, but I'd be prepared to at least investigate some other software to manage the backups. I wouldn't pay a lot of attention to the included software or its magical capabilities.

There are dozens of sites that deal with removing this fake software. They all recommend Spyware Doctor. But I cannot follow their instructions. That is because Spyware Doctor refuses to remove Security Shield until I pay.

Nowhere on these sites does it mention payment or that it should be anything other than a free download. Nowhere does anyone else with this malware say they eventually had to pay. So why is it just me?

I am working overtime in the office and don't have the authority to spend the company's money on Spyware Doctor. I need to remove this malware that is slowing down my PC right now, so that I can continue working.

I don't get many issues, but TSF solved one for me over 2 years ago. So, can someone here please, please tell me how I can remove Security Shield under my present circumstances without being charged money I have no access to?

Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone here has experience using the Wondershare TimeFreeze Free software? The reason I am asking is that my wife has picked up 2 viruses in a month just surfing the web, and to tell you the truth, I am getting tired of cleaning up her messes. I have all the antivirus/antimalware software I need, and updated, and they still seem to get through(Avast/Spywareblaster/Malwarebytes/SuperAntispyware/Spybot S&D. This software looks to be something she could use just when she is surfing to eliminate the chances of getting infected. Supposedly you can just use it when surfing, and anything that happens to your machine, or changes that are made(with out your knowledge) will not be permanent, and upon reboot the system and folders will be returned to normal. Any thoughts, opinions will be appreciated, thanks for your time.

In another thread of mine it was mentioned that most blu-ray players do not come with software to play blu-ray discs, and this software can cost $100.00 or so. I did a quick Google and came up with these:

Just curious if anyone has tried either of these, and how well it worked, or didn't. I guess VLC has blu-ray support, but not the encoding part, so it can only play unencrypted discs if I understand what they are saying. That would have been my first choice of player.

Well let me know, and thanks in advance!

Everything seemed fine at first, but the next day AVG's resident shield popped up with a 'Threat Detected' warning, claiming it had located a 'potential trojan agent' and giving me the option of removing the treat or ignoring- I chose to remove.
I then did a full computer scan with Malwarebytes which took a couple of hours. During this scan, AVG resident shield popped up repeatedly with new detected threats, always 'potential trojan agent's, and in a different file each time. This happened about every 10 minutes, although it probably wasn't at exactly regular intervals- I didn't time them.
At the end of the scan, Malwarebytes had found a couple of suspicious files (OpenCandy PUP) and I set it to remove them, which prompted me to reboot- which I chose to do. After making that choice, AVG popped up with another 'threat detected' warning- but the computer was al... Read more

In some cases, they may be included in Installers or Downloaders found at hosting sites such as CNET, BrotherSoft, Softonic, FreewareFiles and Tucows. When a vendor includes an add-on such as a toolbar, they do so as a way to "pay per install" and recoup associated business costs. This practice is now the most common revenue generator for free downloads and is typically the reason for the pre-checked option. If pre-checked by default, that means you need to uncheck that option during installation if you don't want it. If you install too fast, you most likely will miss the "opt out" option and end up with software you do not want or need. The best practice is to take your time during installation of any program and read everything on the screen before clicking that "Install" or "Next" button. Even then, in some cases, this opting out does not always seem to work as intended.Calendar Of Updates maintains a comprehensive list of common software bundled with unwanted add-ons called the:Inst... SecureAPlus VS Voodoo Shield Free VS Crystal Security which one is the lightest? (CPU Wise)

Answer:SecureAPlus VS Voodoo Shield Free VS Crystal Security

I find Voodoo Shield light on my system. Crystal Security may be even lighter but VS protection is better with lightness. And VS have few protection modes so you can choose the suitable one.

If I had a personal system I would go for either Windows Defender + VS or may be VS alone.

SecureAPlus will definitely be heavier compared to other 2. I have tried VS & CS & both were light here. Never tried SecureAPlus.

Hi all,

I am, again, considering the upgrade offer for the Windows 10 (I have Win7, see laptop info in signature). It's been awhile since this offer came out, so I am wondering how many of you went for it, and if your puter is handling it well?

Also, I know my laptop is older now, I bought it in 2012, but it is in amazingly good shape. I have taken very, good care of it. So that may be good information to help with opinions on whether I should go for the upgrade. I have done quite a bit on my sisters Win 8.1 so I have at least a basic knowledge of the differences from the Win 7.

Thank you in advance, for any of your thoughts on this PS I do believe it would be best for me to buy a computer that is built with Win10 but that is out of the question for me at this time. If people are having good results upgrading, I may try it

Answer:Reviews/opinions On Windows 10 Free Upgrade?

I'm yet to be convinced that it's an improvement over W7 or that it adds enough improvements to get me try it for the 3rd time on my main rig. I might wait until the Anniversary Edition/build/W10.2 is out before I try again.

I do have a netbook I recently upgraded, should I get really bored and my 'net goes down, the 'fridge is empty, can't find a deck of cards, a full bottle of something interesting, or anything by Fisher Price...

First stop, Tosh's forums for other users comments on your model, then check the Tosh Support/drivers site for 'the official word' on whether they support/recommend W10 on it. Don't expect much 'non-standard' or 'amateur' software to make the W10 grade, you'll likely need to reinstall some, maybe also after any subsequent minor upgrades as well ('normal' updates shouldn't remove/block software).

Question: FREE Kaspersky

Get Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2016 for free

Answer:FREE Kaspersky

After $35 rebate... and you still have to foot the shipping.

So, assuming the rebate actually comes through in 2-2.5 months, then it is $3.

And why would you ever want to have software shipped to you when you can get a digital download?

My Kaspersky AV ran out of subscription so I decided to try AVG 7.5 free.
The one thing I noticed when using AVG for scanning "My Computer" scanned maybe half the number of files?? If not less...compared to KAS!! Could not find an option on AVG to add additional stuff to scan.

I was and am still using COMODO BO Clean & SpywareBlaster and Windows Firewall All updated to latest versions. Please let me know if this is a decent setup.

I'd like to know if the Lappy would be MORE secure if I shift to the latest KAS Internet security Package as opposed to hanging on to AVG free. .

Thanks very much for any advice.

>> I'd like to know if the Lappy would be MORE secure if I shift to the latest KAS Internet security Package as opposed to hanging on to AVG free. Thanks very much for any advice. sikvik <<

I'd stay with AVG Free if I were you. I've used it since 2004 and I've never had a virus get through the AVG defenses on any of my 3 computers. It has caught a few things (while I was online) and "healed" them before any damage was done; but nothing has gotten through as yet. Additionally, just to be on the safe side; once a month I also use an "online virus check" called BitDefender Online Scanner - Free Online Virus Scan

Please Note: AVG 7.5 Free is out of date. Use AVG AntiVirus Free Edition 8.0 instead.

Sounds Good - but I'd add a software firewall if you do not already have one. Windows Firewall alone is very limited IMO.

Good Luck!

Thanks but no thanks Krishnan,
IOLO is heavy in memory usage,
is not fully compatible with Vista (even if the developers say it is)

Hi, So for the last 4 months ive had nothing but problems with my IMAP through gmail...and just gmail in general....both through email clients and the web GUI...god i hate that gmail GUI

Anyways, ive tried everything possible and even went back to a disk image from prior to when my gmail IMAP thru OE6 started getting goofy. Mostly time out's....but i dont have any other problems with my other work's imap and my hotmail account through OE6.
I even tried toggling the POP IMAP settings in gmail options....

I "was" in the process of trying to use only one email and eventually phase out my other two and have gmail as my main and only...but gmail has let me down...hard.

So i have begun my search for a reliable IMAP email service...Whether its free or not dont matter at this is preffered but for a reliable IMAP im willing to pay a little bit for...whats $20-40 a year anyways....i eat that in junk food in 3 days...

Which reminds me..time to donate to TSG again.....i think you should too....yes you

If you could just throw some names out there and maybe a tidbit about the service if you want.
