Edge, Chrome, Firefox, and IE all fail to connect to any website

Question: Edge, Chrome, Firefox, and IE all fail to connect to any website

A friend with a Lenovo i7 P50 Thinkpad with Win 10 factory installed. Creators Update installed via Windows Update a few weeks ago. Called me last week reporting that he could no longer view web pages using Edge, Chrome, Firefox, or IE. I checked event viewer and saw one of his music creation programs was using a proxy server that was failing. I uninstalled the program and he was able to access web sites for a week, then yesterday the problem came back but no related errors in event viewer. Opening up a CMND window I could ping and tracert any web site without problems. His e-mail works. team viewer works. The web browsers will not connect, hang sometimes, and when closed and exited can still be seen running under task manager or process explorer. I get an error message saying the program can not be terminated when I try to kill it with process explorer or task manager. I ran a half dozen or more antivirus / malware programs which only come up with PUP's and one or two malware not related to this problem. NO proxy settings seen in the browser / internet settings. Running ipconfig /flushdns /release /renew doesn't help either. Suggestions appreciated. - Steve

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Edge, Chrome, Firefox, and IE all fail to connect to any website

Just a wild guess, is that computer by chance using any kind of proxy service or HideMyID service provided by an installed AV or Internet Service package by any number of free or pay-for products?

Wife complained suddenly cannot login to Shutterfly from desktop PC. When clicking "Login" button, PC cannot follow link. Several other links on Shutterfly also not working. IE times out with "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error. (99% of internet surfing has no problems.)
Here is where it gets interesting.....
-Same ethernet cable plugged into laptop works 100%, desktop fails same links 100%
-tried chrome and mozilla browsers, same links fail.
-deleted all cookies, temp internet files, etc. no change
-ran Malwarebytes, CCleaner, you name it, I ran it. No problems found.
-only had the one user account (admin) so I added guest account with default settings and IT WORKS!
All links work no problem.
-what could be in my admin user profile that is screwing up internet links? How do you fix it?
Thanks for your time.

Hi.  Brand new computer, 4 days old.  Still loading it up with stuff from my old laptop.  Removed Norton with the removal tool and installed Eset Smart Security.  Very little else installed yet.

I need to go to the Australian retailer Coles reasonably often.  Chrome is my preferred browser.  When I try to get to the website I get:-

www.coles.com.au unexpectedly closed the connection.

Try:
Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
Running Windows Network Diagnostics

Connection is fine, can get anything else I want.  Firewall is not on as I'm running Eset.  Diagnostics is as useless as ever and says it can't determine the problem as usual.

HOWEVER, if I use the Microsoft Edge browser, no problem - straight to Coles.
Anyone hazard a guess as to why this is the case?
thanks

I'm having issues with both Firefox and MS Edge and I'm wondering if Chrome would be a better choice and if so would I be able to import my FF Favorites to Chrome? Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:Edge, Firefox or Chrome...which is best.

I have grown to like Edge especially with some of the recent updates. Browser choice continues to be a very personal and emotive subject so I will refrain from saying one is better than another since there are circumstances when some websites will not work well in Edge but work in IE etc.

What you are doing is great - try them out and ask for help if one does not appear to do what you want - someone will step in and show you a way if it is possible.

I have a problem with pop up ads where when a pop up sometimes occurs it redirects to unwanted ads not where it supposed to pop up to. I know this came from a free download I did and even though I realized fairly quickly what it was it got on my system and infected it. It has installed something somewhere that causes redirection of pop ups.

I have done all normal advertised steps and repeated:

AdwCleaner

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free

HitmanPro

Reset browsers to default and rebooted.

I think these programs and steps have done something but something is still present as sometimes when a pop up occurs it redirects to unwanted ads. Probably making a new user would solve I think but would be good to solve it on this user. I know if the right file was deleted it would be gone but I do not know where it is and I am running out of steps to follow.

Anyone have some experience with where it might be and how to remove it? Thank you in advance.

Pretty interesting stuff. I'll let the video speak for itself.
What has your experience been?

Answer:Edge performance vs Chrome and Firefox

Interesting indeed. Oftentimes when you ask a person about their primary browser, they'll say Chrome. I'll fess up and admit that I rarely use Edge and don't even have Firefox installed, so I won't be able to make a comparison between the three. I honestly think that if Google were to do the same test, they'd probably showcase Chrome as being the most efficient. Or would they be honest and give credit where it's due? Who knows sure...

I have had problems with Edge opening my Facebook etc very slowly. I even downloaded Firefox to see if it was faster. I prefer Chrome. It is much faster than Edge or Firefox. However, there is something weird happening. When I start my computer and tell Cortana "Facebook log in" it opens up with Chrome and some other pages but some pages open with Edge. Now I know that Outlook, my Hotmail, is a Microsoft product so I wasn't surprised that it opens with Edge but some other pages open with Edge and some with Chrome. Am I missing something. I went to Settings and looked where it says Browsers and it says that Chrome is my default. I gave Edge a 4 month chance. I had Chrome set as my default and Microsoft sent down a large update, it set Edge as my default. I got tired of the slow speed in opening my web pages, Facebook, etc. I only play one game in Facebook and Edge caused it to be so slow when playing it. I reset Chrome as my default and now the game is way faster. Getting to the web page is not the problem, using it once you log in is. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Please, tell me, how good is the Opera browser vs main competitors (mainly, vs IE, Edge, Chrome, Firefox). I used Firefox in Windows XP, 7, 8.1. I am not satisfied with how to run Firefox in Windows 10 (in Windows 10 is slower in my pc). I tested the browser and I liked his speed and security.

I sometimes get this sort of error in firefox and chrome

Firefox can?t establish a connection to the server at www.goodsync.com.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments
...
blah blah blah blah blah

But when I open the same URL in Edge it works - and after that it works in Firefox and Chrome.

When it happens, it's invariably at the most inconvenient time - e.g. on a link someone just sent me in an IRC connection.

Why is this so, and what can I do about it? Apart from ditching Firefox as my default browser in favour of Edge.

Fanx - pjd

Answer:Links work in Edge, but not in Chrome or Firefox

Hi pjd

When is the last time you cleared up your history, cache, cookies and both Firefox and Chrome? Please give that a try and see if error persists.

New, no good...back to HP...still has issues...call on phone, HP does remote "fixes", still lots of issues.
I often get "IE is not responding", HP said go to one of those others because "IE is no longer supported by msoft".

About 2 1/2 minutes to start, re-start takes a minute.....Longer. Then often wait while the homepage fills in. HP says that's "normal for a standard (not solid-state) hard drive". Freezes, freezes during startup. Keystrokes wont appear when typing. This is tip of iceberg, sorry to say I'm probably out $600, as the hammer is coming out soon, just too much aggravation.

Had Comcast here, both inside and outside a few times, checking/fixing/replacing.
But....as I said, is it worth a shot in the dark to try a different browser?

Answer:I think HP Laptop is a lemon, would Edge, Firefox, or Chrome help it?

It never hurts to try a different browser, but have you tried a clean install on the system? I worked for HP for a few years and still buy their laptops personally. The first thing I do is back up the SWSETUP directory and then make recovery discs. Once that's done, I wipe the drive and install a clean version of the OS.

Several appliances and intranet sites no longer display in IE or Edge.
IE will show an error, "This page can't be displayed"
Edge will show an error, "Hmm, we can't reach this page"

Chrome and Firefox will bring back the page, I would just use those browsers, but these appliances work better in IE.

This is not a problem with my machine, it is domain wide, after patching.
Any ideas?

Curious to hear from the hardcore Edge users here, especially if they have experience on other OS's, browsers, etc. Want to hear what the benefits are (in your opinion) of Edge over other browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari, etc.). I'm talking ALL platforms here, basically from all browsers available, why did you choose Edge, and why are you sticking with it?

Hey, this is my first post here, and after much perusing on the internet and this site, none of what I read seems to be my problem. I've tried a few things to correct this, based on the other problems I've read, but they didn't shed any light into it.

So my internet does not work with any browser except Firefox. I have the newest Opera 10, Beta Opera 10.5 or w/e, Firefox 3.5.9 and Google Chrome. As well as IE.
None of them connect to the internet except Firefox.

I don't exactly know when they stopped working, since I haven't touched Opera(s) or IE in months, and just installed google chrome (which is when I noticed the problem).
I have Avast!, Ad Aware SE and PC Tools Firewall Plus. I haven't had any other firewalls installed.
I've tried disabling them, and it didn't work.
What did work was restarting in safe mode with networking, and when I was in that mode I ran ccleaner to try and fix any registry errors that might've come up, but it didn't work. I also ran a virus check and a spyware check, I had some crap but I cleared it out.
I don't think it's any addons, since it would have to be something that comes with Google Chrome that also works in Opera and IE.

The exact thing Google Chrome says is this:
Error 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED): Unknown error.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
After installing the new build 14965 any desktop shortcut to a website, that worked before the new build, fails to load the site in the new build. W10 shows it downloading a file then tries to open the file in the browser. The URL says its
file:///C:/Users/Test/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/INetCache/IE/RXJS6XHT/showthread[1].php
The shortcuts fail on both FireFox 49.0.2 and Chrome 54.0.2840.99 m
MS Edge works fine!
If I drag/drop the shortcut to the browser the site opens no problem. Is this a "wait for the 3rd party browsers to catchup"?
Thanks

I've cleared the caches, reset IE, run AVG scanner and sniper.

BrowserEfficiencyTest is a Selenium WebDriver based web browser test automation project written in C#. It allows you to run through common tasks done in browsers (look through a Facebook feed, go through some emails, browse the news) done in multiple tabs, and uses Windows Performance Recorder to measure how much power, CPU, or other resources were used in order to accomplish those tasks. It currently supports:

Microsoft Edge

Answer:Zbook 15 G3 renders graphics incorrectly in Firefox/Chrome, but not IE/Edge

Are you running any kind of ad-blocking software/ad-on? If so, that may be the cause.

If they aren't configured correctly, they may be reading the images as ads, and subsequently causing them not to show up correctly.

Try turning off the ad-blocking and see if the problem goes away.

We're running a large web application using angularjs, consuming a .NET Web API by making xhr calls.
This works really well with Chrome/Firefox. <o:p></o:p>
The application is hosted on a machine with Win2k8R2 and IIS7.5, we've been able to reproduce the same error using different authentication methods, different
client operating systems (Win7,10 and browsers (IE10,11,Edge).<o:p></o:p>
Unfortunatley I'm not able to include the routes but I've marked the requests in the chrome network (bottom picture) taking more than 9s in the first
picture (IE10).<o:p></o:p>
Is there a solution out there?

I have researched this over and over.

My daughters laptop will not connect to anything with Firefox. IE and Safari work just fine. However I hate both of those and do not want her using either of them. I tried to download Chrome for the heck of it but during install it states it tries to connect to internet but something fails I guess and doesn't install.

I tried going to about:config to change that ipv6 thing from false to true, didn't work. I've added FF to permissions in firewall, I have even turned off firewall and tried it. There is no virus protection software. She only goes to Disney website and I installed a Little Pet Shop game on there for her. Other then that nothing has been uninstalled, installed, changed or anything. It just stopped working!

I even uninstalled Firefox and tried a fresh install. Doesn't work. I checked Proxy settings, etc.

Any ideas?

It's a old thinkpad on XP

Hi,
I hope this is the right forum to post this question. I've used Megaupload for several years to share files. Two days ago, it's pages suddenly stopped working on my internet connection. I had changed no settings and downloaded no new programs. However, when I put in the address, the message came back that my browsers (IE 8 Firefox) couldn't display the webpage.

I tried hooking my laptop up to my modem directly, rather than use my wireless router, and it worked. However, I would like to fix things so I can use my wireless connection again and I'd like to know why it happened.

Thanks!

Dear awesome powers, facing a number of problems with laptop atm. i will began by describing the symptoms, followed by previous solutions tried. Appreciate any provision of assistance provided.

I mainly use chrome or firefox on my vista system. Over the last few week i've had to reboot my computer after every use as it slows down significantly after a few hours of usage, While surfing the internet, the search bar redirects me back to google or displays a website unavailable for a couple of instances before working fine again. Lastly, box ads pops up on the bottom right of the screen every few hrs.

For solutions garnered over the internet, i've tried the latest versions of tdsskiller.exe, Malwarebytes, AVG, Karpersky. All the above have been attempted to no avail.

Defogger have been used to disable emulation before i proceed. I have attached the ark and attach text files and the Dns file is as per below:

My computer (Dell XPS 625, Windows 7 Ultimate, SP 1) was in storage for 21 months. When I packed it, it worked well and was completely updated. When I unpacked it recently, everything worked except IE and Firefox. From the beginning, even before any updates, Google Chrome worked fine, as does Thunderbird (email) and all programs that access the Internet, except IE and Firefox, which cannot connect.

Changes I have made as I updated the computer:
I have let Windows Update apply all updates. Windows updated IE to IE11. I uninstalled Firefox and then downloaded and installed the latest version (32). I uninstalled my old antivirus (Microsoft Security Essentials) and installed Kaspersky Endpoint Security 10. An initial scan found no malware and Kaspersky is now handling the firewall. I have tried flushing the DNS and rebooting the computer after every update. I tried resetting IE to its default settings. I also ran chkdsk /f to look for bad sectors. (There were none.)

After all these changes, IE and Firefox still do not connect.

For any site I try to access, IE reports "This page can't be displayed." Firefox says it is "Connecting..." for a moment, and once or twice even displayed the correct title and icon in the tab. But then it stops and reports "The connection was reset". I cannot even access my router through IE or Firefox. (The router is connected directly to the computer, not wi-fi.)

I tried running both the IE troubleshooter and Wind... Read more

Ok so I had a bad virus last week that I finally got rid of. Once my computer was "fixed" certain programs refused to connect to the internet while others would perfectly. Will connect and work perfectly: Firefox, Electric Sheep, AIM, uTorrent. What won't connect: IE, Chrome, Steam, Rainmeter, random RSS readers. Anyone know what's causing this or how I can fix it? Thanks in advance.

It is difficult to even start a browser, I have to right click an icon and start as administrator.
I cannot access google, so I cannot download Chrome.  I deleted it before I realized IE and Firefox will not allow me to download software.  Each time I try to connect to a website this appears:
You cannot connect to website:

"An error ocurred while troubleshooting"

C:\windows\diagnostics\system\networking

Error code: ox80096001
Source:  Engine
User: SHELL-OC\SHELL
Content:  Restricted

I'm a novice at this and do not understand what to do to solve the problem.  I cannot even search for a portable browser.
Using IE I found Opera Portable Browser download, it would not download.

If they try to visit a webpage via Chrome they get:

If they try to visit a webpage via Firefox they get:

Unable to connect

How can I fix this?

Answer:Chrome and Firefox won't connect to Internet. IE will.

Make sure there aren't any proxy servers in Chrome and Firefox settings.

The firewall might be blocking Chrome and Firefox. Set it to allow those browsers.

Hi,

I noticed the laptop was running slow for a while--maybe a month? I am not the only person who uses this laptop. Yesterday I was unable to connect to the internet through Firefox, Chrome, or IE. I ran an Avast scan and it looked like it found something and moved it to the chest. Then I rebooted and it ran another scan but I am not sure if the found threats were deleted.

I followed the instructions in the malware removal/clean procedures and I will attach the log files. I was unable to install Malwarebytes and I attached a screenshot of the error. I also received and error when MGTools was running. It said nslookup.exe was unable to start correctly. I cannot attach another file but I will attach it to the next post if it will allow me.

I can connect to the internet only through Avast SafeZone.

I appreciate all your help,
Karen

I am running XP Home SP3 on an HP Mini. IE8, Google Chrome, and Safari all display the "webpage not available" error when trying to browse the internet. The interesting thing is that Firefox is able to connect to and display websites, the wireless network is strong and connected, and all other computers connected to the network exhibit no connetivity problems.

I believe the problem may have something to do with the Mini's recent infection with Antivirus Soft. AntiVirus Soft is a fake anti-virus program scam that blocks all executables from running, displays bogus warnings and popups, and only allows IE to navigate to Antivirus Soft's scam website.

Yesterday I followed some step by step directions to manually remove AntiVirus Soft's processes, directories, files and registry entries. Upon restart, Antivirus Soft appears to be gone, however I am now strangely limited to Firefox only browsing.

Any ideas how to reestablish full browser capabilities?

Answer:Chrome, IE8, Safari unable to connect, but Firefox can.

I seem to be experiencing the same problem as the OP! It is quite peculiar indeed being able to only access Firefox...

Anyone who might be able to solve this weirdness??

Thank you

I can only connect using Firefox. Neither Internet Explorer nor Chrome can connect.
I have tried allowing them through Windows firewall but that does not help.
I should mention that when I shut down and restart they are not then allowed
through the firewall.
The only anti virus program I use is Microsoft Security Essentials which I
understand does not have the facility to allow or disallow programs.
Any suggestions?
Bradley

Answer:Firefox connects, but IE & Chrome will not connect to Internet

I need more info.
Exactly what do you mean by "connect" ?
When you "tried allowing them through Windows firewall", how did you do it ?
What settings do you use for Windows Firewall ?
Are you blocking outgoing connections ?
If so, did you create any rules for IE and Chrome ?
I haven?t usen MSE in a long time, but last time I used it MSE didn?t have any options to block any connections.

Carelessly downloaded a nasty infected torrent. It's deleted Firefox, installed 5 different programs, a browser, a browser toolbar and won't let me connect to the Internet.
A fake Microsoft Security Window pops up, named "permanent MFC application" in task manager supercedes all other windows and can't be closed.
I can close a few things in the rask manager, but a fake windows restart will happen and they all autostart again

I am unable to connect to the Internet using Google Chrome (my preferred Internet browser) or Mozilla Firefox. This started after I switched free antivirus programs (details below).

My trial of Norton 360 expired, so I uninstalled the program and downloaded and installed Avira Free Antivirus. I noticed that I couldn't connect to the Internet using Chrome, and there was a problem with an Avira Update, so I uninstalled the whole program. Even when I had no antivirus installed, Chrome didn't work. At this point I uninstalled Chrome, restarted my computer, and reinstalled Chrome, but I got the same error message. Because I wanted some antivirus software, I downloaded and installed Microsoft Security Esentials, and it was able to update itself successfully. Meanwhile, my connection problem still persists. Internet Explorer is the only browser works.

To see if Chrome was the only problem, I downloaded and installed Mozilla Firefox, but that browswer does not work either. I also tried temporarily disabling my firewall, but that did not help.

I would greatly appreciate advice about how to fix this problem! Thank you!

I receive the following error message in Chrome:

I am running a Lenovo T61 with Windows Vista Business. Yesterday evening, my Norton 360 notified me that it was no longer working due to a problem with LiveUpdate. Norton recommended I uninstall and reinstall the program, and try to update again. I did this three times, and all three times it rendered Norton inoperable when I tried to run LiveUpdate.

Then I tried to run MBAM, which showed me an error when I tried to update its definitions:

Spybot likewise fails to update.

Also, as of this evening, I cannot connect to the internet with IE, Firefox, or Skype, though Chrome is still working fine (for now, anyhow).

At first I thought I just had a glitch with my Norton, but with so many products failing, I'm worried it's actually a virus or malware program.

I don't know if it's relevant, but I wasn't able to download DDS from the link on BleepingComputer tonight. I had the program from the last set of computer problems I worked through on the forum, so I used that to create the log below. GMER downloaded fine and ran as well.

I'd appreciate any suggestions you can give me!

Thanks,

Apparently I have picked up a virus when downloading a file to test a failing graphics card. Started with ads powered by Define Ext showing up everywhere. I have Norton 360 and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium installed so I ran those two immediately and they picked up pups and pums and quarantined them. That got rid of the ads but when I opened a new tab in Chrome, it said it couldn't connect to the proxy server, same thing in IE and Firefox. I don't have a proxy server. I changed the settings back and could open one tab, but if I opened a new tab it would say the same thing again. Looking online for solutions, one suggestion was to check program files for all recent installations, found three that installed the same day as the graphic card test program.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Common Dictionary\node (I was able to delete this file completely)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Diagnostics\node with a handful of files under it; conf, copy, diagnostics, install, nsis.json, source.info, system, temp.json and uninstall. Tried uninstall, nothing. Was able to manually delete all the files under "node" but not "node" or "Diagnostics". Said it could not be deleted because the folder or file is open in another program.

The third program was called Tidy Network and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware took care of it.

Another suggestion was to bring up Task Manager Processes and Services and look for unusual things that are r... Read more

Presently, I’m having an issue with Chrome not loading specific content on Aweber.com, and when that same content is sometimes loaded from Firefox, it crashes both itself and Chrome, and sometimes, other programs.

This error also will occur sometimes if I launch Steam (SteamPowered.com) while running Chrome. Chrome will crash, as well as the Steam client. (I can only assume this is because they’re sharing something, but I don’t know what.) I know that Steam uses a type of browser internal to it so you can browse the store, interact with other users, etc.

Here’s what occurs most often, and how I can generally duplicate it.

If I go into Chrome and try to compose a new email in Aweber, it just says “Loading” and does nothing. I think this uses Flash, judging from the source code on the page. Doing this same activity in Firefox will, more often than not, crash Firefox, Chrome, and sometimes “unrelated” applications such as Spotify and Notepad++, which occurred the other day. They literally start crashing one after another, in some sort of chain reaction. Apps running in the tray (Evernote, Google Drive, etc.) are unaffected.

Sometimes, in Firefox, the ability to compose a new email in Aweber comes up and works flawlessly. I notice I have the most success with this after rebooting, and going right into Firefox without letting the computer run for some time.

Sometimes when going into Aweber in Ch... Read more

You’re experiencing Chrome crashes due to conflicts between browser installed modules. Run the browser without loading any add-ons, disable the sandbox feature, reset your DNS settings and so on. I’m sure this will fix up Chrome crashes.

Clear Cache Contents and Temp Files:
1. Click Wrench, select Tools | Clear browsing data.
2. A new page would open.
3. Choose “The beginning of time” from the drop down control.
4. Make sure that all checkboxes are checked-up.
5. Click “Clear browsing data” button.

Remove Corrupt User Profile Data Files:
1. Exit Google Chrome.
2. Double click My Computer desktop icon.
3. Open below directory:
C:\Users\[USER_NAME]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default
4. Remove all contents from the “Default” folder.

Hi, l've been having a constant issue with my computer and I can't seem to get out of this trouble no matter how many times I reinstall and even wipe out my hard drive.

I wiped out everything in my hard drive and installed windows 7 Ultimate for the '7th' time, and the same problems happen every single time.

Right after the install, it seems to work fine but as I install numerous windows updates as it recommended (almost forced me to, 'cause it does automatically), my computer becomes so slow in everything.

It doesn't start up, the menu and such looks as if I'm in a safe mode (blocky and old looking) even if I manage to start it up, have to wait more than 15min or even 1hr for it to respond.

The situation I'm having now is, the pop up message saying:
"Failed to connect to a windows service: windows couldn't connect to the System Event Notification Service service. This prevents standard user from logging on to the system. As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond"

Also, the computer has been failing at installing several updates such as:
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 for x64-based Systems
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2763523)(KB2719857)(KB2735855)(KB2750841)(KB2732059)

Because of that, it sometimes ran chkdsk on the boot screen and deleted/fixed files.

I don't think it's ... Read more

Links to websites, either from emails or from shortcuts pinned to my PC desktop's task-bar have suddenly been directed to Google Chromes search page. There are four icons pinned to the task-bar that work;Windows Media Player, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Google Earth and Windows Live Mail all of the rest, such as Facebook, Ancerstry.com YouTube and others now default to the Google Chrome search page.

MSN Messenger I tried using the old v4.7 to login... it just saying logging in... go for 5mins then just goes back to the original screen when I gotta login again. Hi there

While Silverlight is as everybody knows RUBBISH it IS a requirement for watching SKY GO on Windows. Sky GO on Android doesn't use it so It must be possible for Ms to have some other method of protecting DRM material.

So (and SKY GO is used by loads of SKY customers --particularly for Sport and Movies) as EDGE which (intentionally) doesn't support Silverlight people will have to keep IE11 for the foreseeable future - unless one wants to use CHROME - which I don't really like --YMMV on this one of course.

If Ms wants people to switch as quick as possible to EDGE they need to get current applications to work with it.

At least though SKY GO works on W10 !!.

(For those who don't know what SKY GO is - it's the service from the U.K Satellite Broadcaster SKY that people can use to stream programs on to their tablets, computers and phones - quite a good service BTW if you have SKY TV.

Good on some Rail services too in UK where trains have fast Wi-Fi available !!!

Cheers
jimbo

Hi

I am using Window 7 Home Basic with Sony Vaio eh26. Everything was working fine.. But in last 15-20 days chrome has started showing unexpected behavior. Whenever I start Chrome it freezes the System. I can access websites in chrome browser, but the System freezes. I have to open up task manager and end the process. I found one solution, however. If I start Firefox or IE prior to launching Chrome then it works just fine. After Chrome is launched even if I close Firefox/IE it works fine..

What may the problem? It is driving me mad.. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it twice, disabled many extensions and I don't even have many extensions. Please help me if anyone knows the solution.

Thanks!

Reports this week that Chrome has overtaken Firefox and is closing gap with I.E.
It appears that now Google is directing users to Chrome at the expense of Firefox who get a lot of their revenue from Google who in turn could turn this off gradually.
I have never used Chrome, what do you think about how it performs compared to the other two main players?

Answer:Media reports Chrome choking Firefox? Who uses Chrome?

IE for me any time. FF as a stanby browser. Rather use any other browser than Googles as they have enough info on my personal searches and email as it is.

Although I run 64-bit Windows 10 on my PC, I don't think this problem is as a result of installing Windows 10 as I also had it with Windows 7.
Whenever I visit sites like TopcashBack, Quidco or other sites that have a link to a third party, when I click on the offer I end up with a new blank browser tab which is labelled something like 1234(1x1). I don't get the problem if the click-through is to a non-selling web site.
The problem must be on my PC as I don't have the problem on my 32-bit Windows 7 Netbook. How can I fix it? I run Kaspersky Total Security (also on my Netbook) and Adfender, although I can't see why these should stop a click-through I have initiated.
I hope someone can tell me where I need to look to correct what is preventing these click-throughs.

Hey I've got an annoying problem here. I use Google Chrome and I signed up to Hack Forums the other day but whenever I click on a thread, and threads only, they fail to load. So it'll go on the page but it won't show the page, just a white screen and a never ending loading circle on the tab. This is the ONLY website this is happening to and I logically can't think of why it's happening or how to fix it. I've tried emptying the cache and deleting cookies and nothing, it just refuses to load. Can someone please shed some light on this?

Thanks

Answer:Threads fail to load in Chrome

Based upon what I know Chrome is suppose to be the fastest, but not always compatible with every site.
Try IE and see if that works.

http://www.geek.com/articles/geek-pick/first-details-of-chrome-os-revealed-20091119/

Google has held a Chrome OS event today and announced the first official details of its new OS. There are a few surprises mixed in with the expected details. Below are the main points that it is important to know:

Google Chrome OS will not be released until next year with the current release window set as just before the holidays (so 12 months from now)
Chrome OS will not be a download, you HAVE to buy hardware to get it
Chrome OS will only be shipped with hardware that uses SSD storage and included with netbooks and laptops
The goal before launch is to make Chrome OS “blazingly fast” and Chrome browser much faster than it is today. The current Chrome OS boot time is 7 seconds with a further 3 seconds for login, that’s running on an Eee PC
Every app in Chrome OS will be a web app and all data is stored in the cloud. There are no native apps and the OS is locked down completely
All files will open in online apps which actually means Microsoft Office Online is a plus for Chrome OS because Office files will open using it
OS updates will happen automatically so your PC is always up-to-date
Google are pushing for larger netbooks for Chrome OS to ship on. That means bigger screens, bigger keyboards, and bigger trackpads
Pricing will be comparable to the netbooks you see today, but Chrome OS netbooks will be larger devices
It looks likely that Chrome OS will have its own app store ev... Read more

Answer:First details of Chrome OS revealed. Fail.

Well with an SSD, you can get a barebones Windows 7 install to boot in about 5 to 10 seconds, big woop. As the most of the threads on this have been saying this is pretty much just an junk appliance OS. Wouldn't touch this shit with a 100 meter pole.

Hello, Hope you can help. I just bought a brand new Thinkcentre Edge 72 in Italy and at the first power on, it failed to boot in Win8. What I have is a "Boot error" code 0xc0000001. The OS does not load and I am provided with a set of options. I've tried all of them to no avail and the only result is I was able to have displayed additional info on the error which is: "ACPI BIOS ERROR" There is no Win 8 DVD / media provided with the desktop hence not possible to launch the recovery console. I have performed some searches on the Internet and understood that it may be that the BIOS is not the right one. I have also found an updated BIOS on the Lenovo support site. I haven't yet contacted support via usual phone, I am seeking support on the forum to evaluate if I might be able to fix it. I have entered the BIOS and found the following (regarding the BIOS): BIOS Rev Level: F1KT44AUS Boot Block Rev Level: F144A BIOS Date: 12/21/2012 License status: Win 8 STD DPK TPG Would flashing the newer BIOS fix the issue? Is it safe or it might be adviseble to bring the PC to a support center physically? (it has just been bought). Thanks for assistance Best Regards Marco

When I bought this machine in mid June, the online listing, and the display plaque in front of the machine at Best Buy both said it was fully Win10 compatible.  I asked the BestBuy staff  to be sure.  They assured me it was 100% compatible.  I wouldn't have bought it otherwise.    The Windows 10 compatibility checker and upgrade app said I was ready to go about week or two ago.  Did all my pre-upgrade Windows updates,  upgraded to Windows 10 smoothly, rebooted for the last time, and my second monitor immediately went to sleep.  Turns out both the onboard Intel HD Graphics 5500   and NVIDIA GeForce 840M display adapter drivers are non-functional (automatically disabled by the OS).    Updated the BIOS, and Intel chipset drivers, and pulled the very latest display drivers from Lenovo and from NVIDIA/GeForce, and none of it helps.     I spent about 90 minutes on hold with Lenovo, and finally got a support person who told me simply that the Edge 15 is not Windows 10 compatible, and that the "fix" was to downgrade back to Windows 8.1, and if that wasn't acceptible, to take it up with Best Buy (their online specs for this computer still claim today that it is Windows 10 compatible). I went back to Best Buy, and they won't admit anything.   They couldn't tell me if there was a known compatibility problem with this specific model, but I should try a fresh install of ... Answer:Edge 15 - Intel and Nvidia display drivers both fail after Windows 10 upgrade

Hi, did you ever find a resolution to this issue. I updated to windows 10 and the system either would not start or if it did it was so slow it was unusable. So, I did a fresh install of windows 10 and installed all drivers from lenovos site. I now have a similar issue. The system keeps flips away from the nvidia driver over use. I can tell because when it flips the screen becomes slightly grainy. The only way to get it to flip back is to turn off and turn back on the system. I have setup the nvidia adapter to run all programs that need it like indesign, photoshop, and illustrator, but over time, or if I put the system to sleep, the integrated adapter is flipped to be active and it becomes grainy. Any ideas?

I have 4 browsers on my computer: Internet Explorer 8, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera. I am trying to listen to some MP3 files on a website, and all of the browsers, except for IE 8, told me to download the Realplayer Plugin. So I did, and when I tried to listen to the MP3 file, Realplayer will automatically enable this "Autoupdate Helper" thing and check for updates. So I let it check for updates, but then it'll say "There are no updates..." and just stop there. The file won't play! I click play again, and the same thing happens.

Internet Explorer is the only browser smart enough to open the MP3 files on the web page using Quicktime (the website actually tells you to use Quicktime to open the files) but it doesn't load the Youtube videos that are embedded on the site. There's a X on the top left corner of the section where the video is suppose to be.

Now I'm stuck! I want to view all the contents on one page with one browser! But none of the browsers will actually work properly!

So the main problem is:

1. The MP3 files won't load in Chrome, Firefox, and Opera using Quicktime.

Chrome is the only browser I use frequently, and the others are basically backup. IS THERE ANY SOLUTION TO THIS!?!?!?

Thanks everyone!

I have a website, I am trying to get to work in edge. I made a website, and it is hosted on my internal server via apache running on Mandriva Linux 2010.1, on virtual box, on Windows 10 (which is the physical machine's OS).

I tested this website in Internet Explorer, by going to the main page, opening it in Internet Explorer, and then clicking the hyperlink to go there. It works from there. I tested in firefox and chrome, and it works there too. But it won't work from edge.

I found out the reason: edge is coded to make the page redirect from http to https, and I don't want it to run over https, and it is not set up to run over https. What trick either in my webserver or in edge's configuration can I use to get around this? Or if that's not possible could you tell me how to get the same content working over https, without having to deal with certificates or anything, and no warnings about certificate errors? https is not really needed for this website, because it's just a list of hyperlinks to other pages.

Hello, I've been getting Random BSODs for a few months now. All started after a forced upgrade to Win 10 and the beginning of BSOD mania. I did a clean install of Win 7. Updated all the drivers, to the best of my knowledge. The file I uploaded is a Kernel Memory Dump. I changed the setting to Small for future. I have had many more BSODs but the dumps typically do not finish. I have had the same (top 3 on the list) BSODs for the last 4 days in a row in same order and respective time frame. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

With a clean install you mean that you first deleted all existing partitions and then installed Windows on the unallocated space?
The installation media, was it from a CD or something else? Came the installation media delivered with the laptop?
Was any other storage device connected while installing besides the main one?

Updated -- working on solution -- see below
I just upgraded from Windows 7 on my Dell Optiplex 755. My user account works fine and I have two other family members on the machine. Their accounts screw up: After an initial start that looked fine, both of them lost the ability to use the start button and apps like Edge, Photo, etc etc -- in short, all the new Microsoft stuff. Old programs seem to work OK. If they click on the start button you briefly see the circle spin around like it tried and failed. If they open Edge or Photo the program pops open for a second and shuts down. If they click on a photo to open in Photo, they get a message that the app failed to start.
I had tinkered with their share settings a little to set up the home network.
So, I tried setting up a new user account and migrating them over but no luck: Last night I set up an account, everything but Edge worked fine -- it still came up and disappeared -- but that's OK we've got Chrome and Firefox too. But this morning, the start button on that new account had died and that account was like the others.
I have tried making another user an administrator in hopes that would cure but it didn't work.
My account still works fine.
Anybody have a clue? Anyone else experiencing this?
Update: The only commonality I've been able to find is that the problem crops up anytime I try to set sharing permissions in my home network. Treat that as provisional, though.
This seems to work better for setting up shares: Create an adm... Read more

Nope.
Just use both, I do

All browsers these days,do basically the same things and are pretty fast and snappy.

It's when you start using skins, add-ons, extensions, toolbars, and extra security suite protection that they begin to slow down.

Just keep those to a minimum, and get only what you REALLY need.

That said, I use Edge 97% of the time because it is hooked deeper into the system, with Cortana/Search, and also has better sound when streaming(my setup & my system anyhow), For example I use YouTube a lot, and Find Edge better than Chrome as far as sound goes.

Question: Edge vs Chrome

I've been using Google Chrome for a long time....

When I first got on windows 10, Edge seemed not so great and I like Internet Explorer better but I knew it wasn't going to be maintained much longer as Edge is now the official windows browser...Although it still seems to lack some of the extra features that Chrome has, since installing Fall Creators Edition, I have been using it for a while and was amazed at how fast it appears to be...like web pages just fly in even when they have a lot of graphics on them...

With Chrome, I've noticed in recent times, it seems more sluggish now...and especially if a page has a lot of "stuff" and graphics on it, seems kind of slow to get it all loaded in...

I was considering making Edge my main browser now but was curious as to what others here think...Is (at this point) Edge good enough to be your everyday browser?

Looking forward to your feedback...any comments, comparisons, you preference, etc...

Answer:Edge vs Chrome

My problem is I find MS Edge does not always react the same to sites that have appear to have website certificate error problems.

The following two url's are basically for the same site, due to a change in the name of the government department at some or other stage.

Daily State of Dams

Daily State of Dams

Both sites offer a facility where one can display data accessed from a database in a map form. One can display the latest data for the most recent date in the data base which always works. But on the one site (the official new site DWS Landing Page), choosing a previous date to the latest on will just display a place holder instead of the map,

yet on the older site, it will display a website certificate error message, which then allows one to proceed anyway and then get the map.

Can anyone offer an explanation why this is please? in other words why does MS edge not routinely display the error message instead of a place holder?

Further, using another browser such as Chrome will offer one an option to display the image in a separate window which then allows one to see the image. This facility is not available in MS Edge. Any reason why not?
