wont boot anymore!

Question: wont boot anymore!

Dear CH! Im ripping my hair out! About two weeks ago i decided to instal and old game Toca race driver 3 on my machine! Its running windows 7 Ultimate. anyways. The program asks to restart the computer and so i did. now i get this screen: (sorry i cant post a photo but its exact wording) Windows Boot ManagerWindows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.2. choose your language settings, and then click "next".3. Click Repair your computer. If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. Status: 0xc000000finfo: the boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible. this has happened before but then i just did a format and reload. Thats most likey what ill be doing again but i want to know what is causing this. now i put my win 7 dvd into the drive and it shows the windows is loading files screen and then the computer restarts.... I have XP 64bit on a dual boot but for some reason i no longer can open firefox on it.... Is this a possible hard drive failure or curruption? what tools can in use to test it? Now my second try the computer did boot from the disc but i cant repair it. It says its not the same disc even though i know it is cause its the only disc for 7 i own! What on earth is going on? its not an old machine either. built it last summer. here are the specs:AMD Fx 81208gb ramasus m5a97 motherboard1tb wd black drivemsi r6870 hawk graphics card850 watt PSU

Preferred Solution: wont boot anymore!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: wont boot anymore! program is not Windows 7 compatible, so you will likely need to repair Windows 7 and avoid using it on 7.

Question: Wont boot anymore

My vista laptop wont boot
When I press the power on button, I get the post check and then it restarts and just keeps doing the same cycle
When I put my vista disc in and boot from disc, the moving green bar comes up on the bottom, the hard drive light stays on but it never loads.
I cannot get into the F8 menu
Last night it was booting diffrent. It would do the post check then come up with the 'Windows cannot start screen' and give the option to repair or start windows normally. No matter which one I pressed, the computer would restart and bring the 'windows cannot start screen' again in a constant cycle.
Help needed urgently
Ps - Is there anyway of forcing a system restore?

Answer:Wont boot anymore

What is the make and model of this computer?
What kind of disc did you use,eg installation disc?

Hey guys,
Today I recently watched a video and it was saying to record with your nvdia gpu in 60fps without ruining gaming experience you use shadow play.
I enabled shadow play and then 5 minutes later my pc crashed and restarted it self. I said ok no problem. It then says starting windows and then boots into a black screen I can see my mouse cursor. 2seconds later the screen goes grey, 10 seconds later the screen says "no input found" and my monitor turns off, 15 seconds later my pc restarts again. This problem has never happened until I enabled shadow play. I can boot up in safe mode (which Im in now) but I can't open nvdia to disable shadow play. I tried uninstall nvdia geforece experience but with no luck its still happening. I've tried restoring my pc. Should I fully uninstall my graphics driver or is that not the cause?  I don't know how to find crash logs. PLease someone help me
Kind regards,

SOLVED: drivers screwed it up. full uninstall fixed it.

Hi peeps, I have a problem with my old AMD 800mhz wich wont boot anymore. This morning when I came to this computer, I noticed it was making no more noise, no fans, nothing on the screen etc... and there was only the power led that was blinking on and off all the time. I turned the computer off by holding the button a bit and tried to boot it up again. nothing.

The power supply work, the power button too obviously since I turned it off, the MB inside led is open... but nothing happens.

Whats should I do?

its a k7v via chipset motherboard slot A with a 800mhz processor, scsi hard drive and all...

im really clueless on this, and the asus website dosent seem to have anything concerning this trouble

Answer:Wont Boot Anymore!!!!

could it be the lithium battery that blew off?

btw just to mention, I never OCed this rig, and the fans did all work well. I used it as my file server for over 2-3 years

firstly excuse me for my naiveity, (and spelling), I've just been given a load of decent second hand parts and built a new pc from them. Once I had but it all together and loaded XP it was working fine although I was unhappy with the graphics. I found a graphics card in the parts and put that in (dumb move)...

When I put that in the first time it loaded windows fine but would not recognise the video card, as I wasnt online on that pc yet to find a driver, I decided to take it out and save for a later date, when I had set up everything else....

As it wasnt installed I neglected to remove it from Add/Remove hardware (another dumb move, I think) When i took it out and rebooted the monitor would no longer power up (the orange light flashes, powersave is on etc, no green light anymore) I think the boot is sticking somewhere as the pc then goes quiet and things like the num lock key dont work, although without a monitor I havent a clue whats happening...

I've tried retracing my steps, putting it back in, booting, taking it out and booting etc a number of times and that still doesnt work.

Please please please can anyone help me? beore I have a fawlty towers style fit at it?

Answer:My Monitor wont boot anymore...

If it won't work with the pci card put back in I would say that it must be something else. Your BIOS uses a generic driver and should be able to display itself no matter what you are using. If you find out that it is a driver problem you might just want to stick the hard drive in another computer with the internet and load the drivers on.

I have 2 old computers.

I installed a pc analyser and for each of the computers it gave me weird answers.

The one halted on '00' and the other 'CE'

I have replaced ram cpu etc... with no effect.

And just 10 min ago it was working.

I had taken the cpu fan off to dust the dirt off it and put some more thermal paste on it doesn't work at all.

Please could someone help me sort these issues out.

Hi, i have an old Dell Inspiron Mini 1011 netbook and it no longer wants to load Windows.  it does not matter what version of Windows i try and load they all do the same thing.  they begin to load and then freeze when loading.  if i have the screen in a certain position the system will boot but if i move the screen from that point then Windows says that the graphic driver crashed continuously and wont stop.  linux loads perfectly fine but Windows wont load at all.  do i need to get a new screen or screen cable?  is it something with the motherboard that is causing the problem?  can someone please help me with this problem and try and help my figure out this problem?

Hello, lately my computer has been giving me some trouble. Last week my power drive died and the new one arrived today. I got all excited and got everything back together... I go to start it up and it says

"Boot from CD: "

I went through everything but what disk is this or how can I get past this. Any help would be nice thanks.

Answer:Need help, comp wont boot anymore...

When you say power drive, to what exactly are you referring?
the hard drive, cd rom, what?
It looks as though there is no OS to load or at least the system can't find one. if you have a hard drive with a working OS on it then check to make sure you didn't loosen a cable or connection anywhere.

I had XP pro installed on my computer, and then I got vista but didn't want to wipe xp just yet in case i didn't like vista. So i installed vista on my second hard drive (i have two). Then I needed some more room and decided I was going to take windows out, but since it wasn't upgraded, there was no clear way to uninstall xp, so i booted vista in safe mode and told it to format C: with automatic options (which is the hard drive with XP on it), but it said that it was not allowed to wipe a system partition (for XP), so then i just typed format C: with no options and it said that the drive was in use, but I could dismiss it and all opened handles would become invalid. So i said yes, and it formatted it.

Beforehand, when I started my computer, it allowed me to choose to open vista or XP, but after the format it said that no operating system was found. So i had to reinstall windows on the formatted harddrive and I can access the second drive, and everything is there, however I cannot boot vista.

Is there something I can do to be able to boot vista?

I tried setting the boot options to the 1st hard drive and then the second, but vista still wont boot.

I appreciate any help

Answer:Vista wont let me boot it anymore!!!

and now, the drive letter for the second hard drive (with vista) has changed from F to C

So I just built this computer and I had originally installed 3 Hard drives, 2 SATAs and 1 IDE.

I took the Sata out and the IDE out. Now when I reboot my computer it says that Disk Boot failure insert system disk and press Enter.

I know I installed the OS on the main HDD that is still in the computer. And Bios detects it.

Under Standard CMOS features it says:

IDE Channel 4 Master [Samsung HD103SJ] (samsung hdd)
IDE Channel 5 Master [ASUS DRW-24B1ST] (my dvd drive)
0-3 Master & Slave are None

I have First Boot Device Set to Hard Disk, Second: CDRom, Third: Floppy

Also under Hard Disk Boot Priority: 1. Ch4 M: Samsung HD103SJ 2. Bootable Add-in cards.

Windows was working perfectly and everything was good till I took the hard drives out this morning.

Hi, $ahil,

If either, or both, of the other HDDs were connected when you installed Win7 the boot sector was probably placed on one of them. This is why folks are advised to connect only the HDD they are installing the OS on during the installation.

Check the following MS Knowledge Base article, How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows, or How to Restore the Windows 7 MBR (Master Boot Record) from "Win7 ABCs - Great list of Windows 7 tutorials by MVP Shawn Brink!"

Hope this helps.

Hey Everyone, my pc has started acting up.
At first my video card had a bug and i fixed it by doing a windows system rollback.
However, now my windows wont boot. I can get into BIOS and recovery. I've tried using my recovery disk but it just gives a black screen with a mouse cursor after booting. System recovery (F11) gets me to a setup window where it says its using E:\ but its not picking up my recovery disk. I cant launch in safe mode, shift+F8 just gets me into BIOS. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

Hi Everyone,

I had windows vista on my toshiba satellite laptop.

I decided to downgrade to XP Pro and the installation was going fine.

I didnt realise I hadnt plugged my laptop into the mains and as a result the laptop switched off during the installation.

I had agreed to format the drive and then popped out for 10 minutes.

When I returned the laptop was off.

I have switched the laptop back on and the laptop asked me to press anykey to boot from cd.

I pressed the key,

It says setup is starting and then the screen goes black.

I've tried this 4 or 5 times and nothings happening.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had some trojan attach problem and downloaded a s/w called SDFix.exe. To run the program it is necessary to log in the Safe Mode. Due to the trojan attach even my PC wont log on in the safe mode. When I wud press F8 at startup it would take me to the screen where I can see all the posible options to log in but then when I wud select safe mode (and all variations thereof), it will run thru a lot of dll files and then wud abruptly come to a stop. Then it will again go back to the initial selection screen and this cycle would cotinue.

Somewhere i read a method of getting into the safe mode and accordingly i did the following:

I logged in normal mode and then Start-Run-MSCONFIG

MSCONFIG screen opened and i selected the "Selective startup" radio button in the "General" tab. Then I went to the "BOOT.INI" tab and clicked the checkbox in "/Safeboot".

The machine went for a restart and then it again automatically came to the F8 screen and then the same problem would happen and the pc wont start in safe mode or any other modes also. I tried the "most recent config that worked" mode and even that failed. I tried loggin in thru "start windows normally" and now even that wont start.

As of now the PC just wont boot anymore under ANY of the modes available in the F8 screen.

Kind regards.

Answer:changes to MSCONFIG: comp wont boot anymore

Hopefully you have your XP install CD. Pop it in the CD drive, make sure your PC is set up to boot to the CD drive first (you may need to check the BIOS first), then when you see "Press any key to boot from CD...." you'll press any key. The space bar is a perennial favorite. You'll see a blue screen with various things listed at the bottom. Wait until you're asked if you want to "Repair XP via the Recovery Console, Start an XP installation, etc....". You'll press "R" at this screen and eventually you'll be at an old school DOS-like prompt (it isn't DOS, but it looks like it). At the prompt, type del boot.ini and press Enter. This command erases your current boot.ini file. Then type bootcfg /rebuild and press Enter. This command scans your hard drive and rebuilds a basic standard boot.ini file based on your Windows installation. When it's done, type exit and press Enter, and remove the XP disc from the drive. Your Windows should load normally. If you have another method of editing the boot.ini file (like booting to a PE CD or something), a basic boot.ini for XP Home file looks like this:

[boot loader]
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetectClick to expand...

Good luck! Keep us posted!

Having a couple of issues here they are, at least once a day I get a BSOD for various reasons (when I have time to see it before the comp shuts down) there doesnt seem to be a recurring theme it just does it when it feels like it, when it happened the first time I was running 8gig of GSkill DDR3 ram (4 x 2048) through some internet research I discovered it could have been a dodgy Ram stick (they were the original ones that came with the build in Jan) so I mem tested them all with no issues.

I have reinstalled Windows 7 64bit 3 days ago using the original disk that came with the computer after about 5 BSODs and updated all the drivers, today I flashed the BIOS as it was very old. the computer seems to be running ok atm with 4 gig Ram however if I try to put the other two sticks back in it wont start (wont even display the POST message) it doesnt seem to matter which combination of sticks I use either just that theres not more than 4gig, very frustrating. I have checked all HD's with HD Tune pro and removed one that had bad sectors as a last resort.

I can't think of anything else and have exhausted my limited knowledge, the next step if noone here can help is to return it to the build company but would rather fix it myself if I can....

I put my HP laptop on sleep. Then I woke up and tried to turn it on. It turned on but was on a black screen. Normally black screen is for up to 5 seconds before something shows on screen but this time it was more than 5 mins and nothing so I rebooted it. The computer said updating because I had a pending restart. It updated then rebooted and said fixing disk errors (don't know why) then after it finished, it rebooted again and said preparing automatic repair. 5 seconds later it crashed with a bsod but was to fast to find out what the error was. I found out it was driver irql not less or equal something like that. It keeps looping auto repair 5 seconds later bsod. I tried f8 and startup settings but it keeps coming up with a screen saying recovery your pc needs to be repaired with error 0x000000f.

What should I do? I can't boot anything up or go into start up settings if I needed to get to safe mode or other things. No CD driver neither. I downloaded Windows 10 and copied its files to a flash drive then realized it was Portuguese copy BUT even though I don't know what to do with the flash drive booting from efi file or something like that. Help please.

Out of nowhere my laptop wont boot. It starts and you see the vista loading screen then i get a STOP error 0x0e7 and it restarts. I tried system restore didn't do anything, tried startup repair and it couldn't find out what was wrong. I am not to sure but to my knowledge 0x0e7 error is a system thread unhandled error, how do I just randomly start getting that?

I was surfing on my laptop, and it randomly shut down. It gave no warning about a low energy level, and it had like 60 or 70 procent, so that couldn't have been the reason. I've tried to power it without accu, but just a adapter, but it doesn't work either. The fan wasn't very loud. I have the laptop for nearly two years now by the way.

anybody know of any software or something i can burn onto a cd or something and put it into my tray and boot it with it inside to help me override whatever is keeping me from booting?

Help! I just recently changed the page file to 1.5x my RAM and set both fields to the same value, and made it so that my laptop would boot using 2 cores, and now I keep getting blue screen with "Bad system config info" and looping with startup repair. I was able to get into safe mode and change the settings back, but now I can't get even get into safe mode either, I get the blue screen. I am running windows 7 premium with an ASUS intel core i7 processor. I realised afterwards that A) it was a dumb idea to mess around with stuff i didn't properly understand, and B) that I have 4 cores, being an i7, and that choosing 2 probably has caused all of this to happen

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Changes to msconfig and page file: laptop wont boot anymore

Do you have a System Restore point just before you started these tweaks as if you do I would restore back as its not easy to fix these changes if they do not revert back to working ok when changed back.

What is the BSOD message in full?

May need to use startup repair and then system restore

Yes sadly the modern Windows versions do not need the tweaking in reality that the older ones did and various tweaks in the internet that say they are ok for newer Windows versions are not really fully tested IMHO, so cause these issues.

My pc specs * asus z97-p motherboard * intel i7 4790 cpu * bequiet 630w psu * 8gig corsair vengeance ram * samsung 850evo 250gig ssd (win 7pro 64bit drive) * sandisk ultra II ssd 128gig ssd (win 10 drive) * 2x crucial 500gig bx100 ssd (data drives)

i recently rebuilt this into a new case and it had been working fine. Mainly using the win 7 os but more recently using the win 10 os more and more. The way it has been working is that win7 is the default boot and I have to hit the delete key on startup to select win10 to boot from.

today I was on win 10 but needed to reboot to 7. Upon doing so I hit this message:

Secure Boot Violation The system found unauthorized changes on the firmware, operating system or UEFI drivers.

It then gave me the option to boot to win10 as it is the next boot option on the list. Win 10 is now giving me the blue screen "memory management error" although I have been able to get into win10 after some more rebooting.

I ran SFC scanner and it told me that there were some problems that it cannot fix.

Everything is unplugged apart from mouse, keyboard hdmi to screen and ethernet cable. Unplugging the win10 drive from the mobo and switching the win7 drive to another port has not helped.

Has my ssd failed? has win 10 done an update that has caused this problem? It did update today, in fact the first error message I got was after win10 shut down, and when I booted into it again it installed some updates before launching.
thanks for any help!

Answer:dual boot win7/win10 wont boot to win7 anymore +BSOD "memory managemen

Hi @vinvanda.

As far as I can understand from your post that you had W7 and W10 as dual boot in two different disks.

From the uploaded data we could not find a hint of the BSOD that you said (it is not recorded anywhere, probably because it happened during boot); but some other statements are supported by the data.

Windows failed fast startup with error status 0xC00000D4.

Now, it is STATUS_NOT_SAME_DEVICE; reads as .... "The destination file of a rename request is located on a different device than the source of the rename request".

Now I am making a guess. It it is wrong, please rectify and state the proper situation.
You name the Windows 7 Disk as "system" and the Windows 10 disk as "Win 10". You also said that windows 7 is the default boot. So I am guessing that the boot files are in the the windows 7 disk.

The board is set as Legacy BIOS. So Fast Boot is not possible here; and if Fast Startup is enabled, windows7 needs to disk check in every startup. It is desirable to keep fast startup disabled on a computer with W7.

Now Coming to the "Secure Boot Violation". Windows 7 does not support it at all. And, it is the Firmware Validation Process of UEFI; whereas your system is set to Legacy. I think here lies the issue.

BIOS Mode Legacy

Disable UEFI and Secure boot> Hopefully Windows 7 will boot back.

If it does not, remove the windows 10 disk... Read more

Hei!Well, for starters, it all started when i tried to watch one video *.wmv and media played told to get some codec... Yeah! media players sucks and i shouldn'd had download it but its kinda late now.Well, since its bsod it kinda sucks, but i got dualboot and got ubuntu on, so i went through all temps and i think i found the fail that media player downloaded, i uploaded it to virusscan and send it to sandbox, tried some things but failed, still bsod and no ideas where to go on to.I attached the original file i found from temp and sandbox report.So i'm hoping you guys can help me .Thanks.{Mod Edit Ist attacment contained Aleuron,so I deleted the attachment to prevent someone from downloading it.~~boopme}

Answer:got infected with tdss of somekind and vista wont boot anymore - bsod

Okey, got my vista to boot, things i noticed that had been modified lately etc.

Tho while i did that i didn't had an idea to storage or keep backup of them, looked after now that msonpppr.ddl is somekinda microsoft onenote file but too late to check if it was infected or not, and no idea about that *.tmp file too.

------- but now..

/media/disk/Users/l2pn4p-v/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/Temporary Internet Files/Content.IE5/(sub folder)

virus downloaded itself to IE temp and

it modified my sata/raid drivers , think it failed to infect it properly since i'm quite sure they dont make such viruses to annoy users with bsods.

Well now my windows is running and i got backup of that infected iaStor.sys and orig virus *.exe if anyone interested of analyzing it... And i was still wondering if it left some crap on my registry cuz i kinda no idea what it might chanced in there... Would be nice if anyone could check it up and i can make hijack log later and upload it if there is anyone interested.

Hi there, i have a toshiba netbook Model name is TOSHIBA NB200-10J s/no 59128264K and i have been using it for a while now.
The trouble is that i was charging my mobile phone and decided to connect the mobile phone to my netbook via phone cable, the moment i did that, the netbook just went off and that was the beginning of trouble, it never booted after that.
I got black screen with these error messages below:
''For Realtek RTL8101E/8102E(L)/8103E(L) PCIE Etherenet Controller V1.13 (081016)
PXE-E61:Media Test Failure, check cable
This product is covered by one or more of the following petents US5 307,459 US5 434,872 US5 732,094 US6 570 884 US6 116,776 & US6 327,625''
then after a few seconds the same thing repeats and goes on continously.
I figured i shoud plug in the Ethernet cable since i was always using wireless connection to Router so i did that and the PXE-E61:Media test failure, check cable error message line disappeared but the other lines remained, however it took a step further and stated the MAC address and then got to DHCP.... and nothing happened.
I still cannot use my netbook and i have no idea what has happened.

Answer:Netbook wont boot anymore after a little incident, displays error message

Your netbook is trying to boot from a source where the boot info is missing. This could be a BIOS problem where for some reason it is trying to boot from the network or there is a problem with your the info on your HD or the HD itself is bad. For starters go into BIOS and check the boot order.

Answer:Computer wont boot, wont boot in safe mode, wont load repair centre

Hello there,
It seems like you did not perform a clean installation of Windows and that's why your system is acting up.
Follow the steps below to install a new copy of Windows:
1. To format your hard disk during Windows 7 installation you will need to start or boot your computer using the Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive. Insert your Windows 7 disc in your CD/DVD drive. Please note: will need to restart or turn on your system with the disc in the drive.
2. After turning on your system with the CD in the drive go ahead and press any key when prompted during your computer post routine and then follow the instructions presented on screen. If you don’t see this go back to step 1 to setup your BIOS to boot from CD or USB flash drive depending on your installation media.
3. On the Install Windows page simply enter your preferences and click next.
4. Accept the Windows license agreement.
5. On the “Which type of installation do you want” page go ahead and choose the “Custom” option.
6. Select Drive options (advanced) on the “Where do you want to install Windows” page.
7.  Select the partition that you want to change, choose the formatting option you want to perform and then follow the instructions.
When allocating space choosing the default MB size for your drive is typically the best for most users since you want to take full advantage of all your disk... Read more

So my co worker asked me to look at her laptop its a toshiba tecra m2. The boot keeps hanging up on the system32 file agp440.sys . I went on the internet and found a windows xp pro disk to try and replace the system32 file using recovery. After a learning how to add SATA drivers to the windows xp boot I was able to detect the hard drive and just before windows setup screen comes up the computer blue screens with a 0x0000007B stop error... I read that the battery could cause this so i carefully took apart the computer and replaced it with no change. I put a windows 7 disk in to see if i could use the recovery console in it and suprisingly it booted no problem, i was able to use command prompt but with no idea what the problem is i have no idea what to do with it. If anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated. Thanks for reading the problem hope someone has an idea. any more info needed just ask

Answer:Windows wont boot hangs up on agp440.sys and wont complete boot off the disk :/

Info on 7B STOP errors..., scroll down to 7B in left column.

IMO, you have compounded the situation by using a "downloaded" version of Windows, since I suspect that such may contain embedded malware as part of the package.

Any number of things may have caused the initial hang, as you can see by reading the data at the Aumha website.

my lil bro was tryin to install wc2 and he for sum reason thought that to do that u needed to uninstall starcraft. It was running fine before w/ no lag or anything but when i try to play it by puttin in the CD my comp keeps freezing. it unfreezes for a lil bit but when i click on sumthing after that it freezes again. I finally got to the task manager and ended the task along w/ all the other processes that werent necessary i had running. Then my comp worked again but when i went to programs under the start bar it said that my sc was installed already, but when i clicked on it the "searching" window w/ the flashlight thingy came up. that went on for a while but i got nuthin.
can any1 tell me the problem
thats the only game i can run other than CS 1.5 on my pitiful comp.

Answer:starcraft wont run anymore

When you say "it said that my sc was installed already", do you mean that the icons for SC were in your start menu\programs? Because even if thoes icons are there it doesnt mean the program is installed. You, or someone, could have manually removed SC from your C: dive and that would not have deleted the files in your start menu\programs.

Your computer freezes when you put in your SC CD in because your CD-Rom dive might be getting old and the laser can not read the disc anymore.I cant be certain about this but its an idea.

If you do get your cd dirve to read the disc try reinstalling SC.

I have been using Windows Speech Recognition for about a year. While I find it to be more fun than practical, I have put a lot of time into teaching it my voice and getting it to respond to my commands. All of a sudden it has stopped working. I have searched the Internet for a solution and can't find one. Several people have entered posts citing their problems with WSR and the errors they get when trying to use it. My problem is different. I can't get WSR to launch at all. When I click on it, the "little wheel" goes around for a second or two, and then nothing. My microphone and speakers are working fine. Can WSR become broken? Can it be replaced? Are there any settings I may have accidentally changed that I need to put back the way they were? WSR has become almost a friend, a personality for my computer and I miss it. Any help will be appreciated.

Instead whenever I try to fire it up it comes back with an error message "the application failed to initialize properly(0xc0000005).Click on OK to terminate the application" If I start in safe mode it works ok. I reinstalled windows 2000 and it rolls back to IE5 which will work ok. As soon as I reinstall IE6 up comes the error message again. A trawl through the net shows that the error message is not confined to problems with IE6 but can affect other packages. Can anyone help?

So I'm running windows 8 and have had several programs to automatically start at the windows boot. Since yesterday however this autostart doesn't work anymore. E.g. for chrome a debug file shows up, rainmeter doesn't start at all and I can't even open start8. I did not change any settings since then, so it must be windows 8 updates which cause this problem. Does anyone have a solution to this?

Thanks a lot

I tried restarting a couple times, left it, and it finaly started like the 4th time but took forever to start up. Shit on it was running slow, like google chrome and steam, so i scheduled an error check and restarted. when i restarted, it skipped the error check, nothing even came up for it, went to the microsoft is loading screen again with no logo for like 3 or 4 min, asks if i want to start MS in normal or in repair mode, hit normal and after like 5 min of loading it sometimes goes to a blue background screen (where it says welcome except it didnt) restarted, same thing, some times it wont even get that far and just stays at the MICROSOFTISLOADING... So i said screw it, i'll reformat. Put the disc in launched it, gets to the shit where i select my language and shit, and hit install now, then sits at Setup is starting... and wont do shit. Hi, well, a quite long e-mail. i suggest to you be more specific, people aren't always patient to read it all.

Well, you know now i'm the guy that reads it. I guess it could be a RAM issue but i show you what i do when a computer shows problems that i don't know what they are.

About your problem i suggest to you to start it and test with basic hardware.

1. Remove Video Card, CD/DVD, Floppy (if you have, god, what i'm saying), Extra Discs.

2.Now, only MoBo (Mother Board), Font, Hard Disk.

3.Unplugg Power Cables, from MotherBoard and HDD, every cable even processor to avoid any electricity static still there. Reconnect Power for HDD, Processor and MoBo.

4.Remove all Extra RAM Modules, just left one (1) to start the PC.

5. Turn on PC and don't forget change the monitor cable to the MoBo connector (before it was connect on Graph Acelerator isn't?).

It must run normally and you could start to connect the other devices one per one to see what's failing, if don't i'd try using a different RAM Module... If the problem still tell us.

My IE6 onXP SP2 used to do redirects OK now it doesnt.
I have all scripting enabled under my security settings.

e.g. the folowing html does not redirect - just gives a blank page.

<html><head><meta http-equiv="REFRESH" content="0; URL="><script type="text/javascript">function OnBack(){}</script></head></html>

I have to copy the target address from the source:

...paste it in the address bar and hit return in order to get to the page.

I am sure this has to be something simple but maybe I am getting stupider as I get older?

Hi. Im not really good with computers to start off with, just so you know. I tried erasing a bunch of files that my spyware program said were malicious recently. Then I added another spyware program to catch what the first was missing. I did all of this because I could not get my computer back into standby. It just stopped working out of the blue and I read on some tech forum that it could be from a virus. Finally I read a thread telling me to go into the power options, then click on a different option such as hibernate, or do nothing, then click apply, and save. After doing this it said go back into power options and reselect standby-apply-save and it should work. Well it did... For a few days. Now it has gone back to not going into standby and I have to shut the tower off every time I leave the house. I dont know what could have caused it this time, if it was from before still, or if my husband did something he shouldnt have or what. I tried to to the steps above that helped the first time but it isnt helping on bit this time. Im trying so hard to keep this computer working well as Im not so great with computers and we cant afford someone to fix it. I could really use the help. If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them. If you could dumb it down to the most basic step by step process I would be so very grateful!!!! Thanks!

for some reason after i recently updated my firefox it seems like whenever i want to block ads on a webpage i have to right click the ad and manually block it(this also seems to have caused problems with videos on webpages ive gotten on also).this seems to be a problem ive had before with my ad blocking add ons also

Answer:Ublock Wont Block Ads Anymore

Are you using a Firefox add on extension to block ads, and if so exactly which one are you using? Could you give the name and version of it that appears in Fx> Tools > Addons> Extensions
If you are using uBlock, are you using 'uBlock' or 'uBlock Origin'?
What version of Firefox are you using now, and did you attempt to 'update' all add ons after Fx itself updated?
Are you using any other ad blocking software on your system?
What operating system are you using?

I was playing the video game, The Sims 2, which i have played frequently on my computer without trouble, when suddenly it is closed and an alert comes up telling me that a corrupt file has been detected. If i press "OK" it was close the program, or if i press "CANCEL" it will debug it. Well i guess i wasn't thinking and i pressed cancel. The file resemebled something like WINDOWS://mcs$ -- not exactly right though. Well after i pressed that a little alert at the bottom of my computer told me that the file was still corrupt and i needed to run Chkdsk. When i pressed "run..." nothing came up and i even tried to start my game again but it wouldn't start because of the file being corrupt, and then my computer finally froze once i pulled up Windows Task Manager. With no other choice i turn off the computer using the on/off button and turn it back on. the SONY logo pulls up, then the Intel logo shows, and then when the Microsoft Windows (with loading bar) usually shows instead a black screen with large white type tells me "we're sorry for the inconvenience but Microsoft Windows could not start properly..." It then gives me 5 options of how to start windows: Safe Mode, Safe Mode with networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Last Known Configuration that worked, and Start Normally. No matter which one i choose, the result is the same: the Microsoft Windows come up but the bar doesn't load, then in less than a second a blue screen flashes and then a red screen flashes (both with white... Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. I have been converting my avi files to vob, bup, and ifo files with "vso divxtodvd" so i can play them on my dvd player. I burn the files onto a dvd-rw using nero then i watch em. Now everything worked perfectly the first 4 or 5 times i did it, but now for some reason the picture is black and white is is all scrambled up. The picture is fine when i play it on my pc, but its all screwed up when i play it in my dvd player. Is it possible the disc im using has been erased and reburned too many times to function properly on a regular dvd player?

Answer:my burned dvd's wont work anymore

From what I have learned in studying the compounds used to make DVD-R/+R disks vs DVD-RW/+RW disks, I would be willing to make an educated guess that it is the fact that you are using the RW media. It really is a media that is intended to be used for backup purposes of large files and "viewed" only occasionally. The stand-alone DVD player is not as forgiving with its laser, processor, etc. as the DVD burner in your PC with respect to accuracy of the burn on the disk and being able to read it. Go the site and look up how DVD burners work. It will give you some good insight into why you may be having this problem. Regardless, though, stick with the DVD-R/+R media for your movies that you intend to keep.

so i was on Itunes and i wanted to import a folder into my library. Usually when the window pops open for me to search for that folder another window opens saying that a program has stopped working. when i clicked ok then it would close out of Itunes. I then started searching for my music and when that window pops up i would move it away to where it was out of site then finish up with Itunes THEN press ok after I was finished. I does that for alot of programs though. mostly with Itunes, Music or video converters. Then today I got the window when i was searching for the music but this time it has said Irunes has stopped working. after attempting to move it and continue i found that it would not let me. Itunes shut down. now it will not come back on and i have tried everything i could think of. help?

It won't burn anymore. The past 3 dvd's i tried burning. I know I'm doing it right, I've done this a million times, there is something wrong with the drive or something (not wrong with me). I'm burning an ISO. I've tried using Nero 7 Ultra ISO burner and DVD Decrypter to burn. Nero errors out and Decrypter just sits there at 0% with 100% buffer.
The ISO is no longer protected, so it burned correctly. If I burn it on another computer, it works fine.

Answer:DVD burner wont' burn anymore

Some things you can try:If you recently installed some burning software, uninstall it.Use the fix given on this Microsoft page.Use a different brand of CD/DVD.Clean the laser using one of those drive cleaning kits (or if it is a laptop, carefully wipe the laser with a soft dry cloth).Open the Device Manager (Start > Run > type "devmgmt.msc"). Locate the CD/DVD drive, right click on it and select "Uninstall". After it has uninstalled reboot the computer (it will be automatically reinstalled).

My Asus Q550LF crapped out on me. I was browsing when a whole bunch of black rectangles appeared on my screen, about an inch long. I restarted my computer thinking it just froze or something. I could occasionally get to the desktop page if I unplugged the charger but now it doesn't even turn on. It'll make one beep when I push the power button but that's it. What might the issue be and is it gonna be expensive? Because this computer has been one of the worst I have ever owned and I would just scrap it or something if it might end up being costly.

Answer:Laptop wont turn on anymore

How old is it? It sounds like it could be a multiple of hardware failures including the motherboard. The black rectangles sounds like what we call video card artifacting which means the video card is dying. But the fact that it is not even booting up could point to a failed hard drive. Again, it could be anything.

Asus is known for poor customer service but you could try giving them a call.

Do you know anyone who can do some diagnostics on it? I certainly would be checking out the hard drive.

I wanted to set up Ubuntu on my computer, and followed the instructions in the first answer to this thread: dual boot - How to install Ubuntu alongside Windows 7/8 - Ask Ubuntu

As instructed, I created a logical partition using EaseUS software. I did this on my H:/ drive, a hard disk drive (whereas Windows 7 was installed on C:, and SSD).

After a mandatory reboot for the new partition changes, I did not immediately go to install Ubuntu, although I had Live USB to do so. Instead, if I remember properly, I booted into Windows to make sure everything was OK, but only to find out that some "Windows could not boot properly", giving me the option to 'Launch Startup Repair' - which I did, but to no avail. All it did was reported that some 2 system files were missing or corrupt.

I then installed Ubuntu on a third drive because I still needed it to perform some benchmarking. I did this using the 'install alongside windows 7' option.
But now that I don't need Ubuntu anymore, all I am interested in is getting back to Windows, while keeping all the files and programs intact.

How should I go about fixing this? Delete the logical partition on the other drive? I also have that Windows installation CD, and I'm thinking its repair options could be useful - but not having a whole lot of self-confidence, I don't know what steps exactly to take to preserve my files.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

yesterday I wanted to install Windows 10 Enterprise on my T1650 test machine. Before doing so, I successfully updated the BIOS to A20. After updating BIOS, I've enabled UEFI + Secure Mode, saved the changes and... couldn't start the PC anymore. When turning the PC on, monitor immediately goes into power saving mode, there is obviously no signal coming from the PC. Removed the Nvidia Quadro NVS 300 and plugged the monitor into board's VGA slot, no success. Tried to clear the CMOS (battery out, jumpers), nothing helped.
Any ideas?

I have a windows XP computer and for a year have had no major problems with it. however the warantee has now ran out and for a long time the slot where the disks go in (im a computer illiterate) doesnt seem to be working. the disk goes in fine and then all the normal bleepy noises it makes when reading a cd-rom, cd or dvd can be heard, however nothing then comes up on the screen, and if i go into 'my computer' or anything like that the computer doesnt seem to know that theres a disk that should have been read! it doesnt matter what i try to put in, before it would read and burn onto cd and dvds, and i could install programs from cd-roms, but now it doesnt recognise anything! it'll cost a fortune if i have to send it away to get fixed, and like i said i know NOTHING about computers... someone please help me!!!

Answer:why wont my computer read disks anymore?

I highly doubt its a driver problem, but you can check...

Right click My Computer->manage->Device Manager->CD/DVD Drives->Right click on the drive and select update drivers. Restart.

Or click on properties (the same menu as update drivers) adn see what version it is. Compare this to the ones on the Samsung website for the most curreny.

Another idea is to flash the firmware, See if you can grab them from Samsung's site.

If that doesnt help than I would just buy a new optical drive and throw it in there.

I've had an A100-538 for a week now. Yesterday evening I was working on it (AC-power)and then I left the house for about half an hour, leaving the laptop on. When I came back the computer was off and I heard a soft ticking noise. (I'm sure it hasn't got anything to do with the Toshiba Power Saver) I couldn't restart it at that moment.

After about half an hour I was able to turn it back on again and it seems to be allright again. But..... it won't run on the battery anymore. According to the system tray icon the battery is full 100%, yet when I disconnect the power adapter the computers goes dead instantly. What made the computer go off in the first place and why won't it run on the battery anymore?

Answer:Satellite A100-538 wont run on battery anymore

Sounds like it went dead because the harddrive made a false contact causing the computer to shut off. As well as making the ticking noise. It wont run on battery because the battery is still somewhat shorted out and will not allow the battery to function like normal. There is a new battery cover that will resolve this problem. I advise you take it in to your ASP and have them change the battery cover and do a few quick tests to make sure nothing else was damaged.

Hello, I have an Asus N53S laptop, and im having issues with my DVDROM, its a Slimtype BD E DS4E1S. Just recently when trying to back up some data i got a message while using DVD Author Plus, that the "Seleced CD/DVD drive has been disconnected." I tried using other various programs such as Express Burn, and the built iin burning tools through Windows and would get other error messages. I found a Firmware update through Asus' website and that fixed the problem for one more burn, but now its back to the same old errors. I have no problem reading discs of every kind, but writing just isent working. Through the device manager every says its working fine. Im running Windows 7, 64 bit, service pack 1.

Answer:DVD drive will read, but wont write anymore.

Just to put you right, it's not a DVD-ROM drive, it's a DVD-R R/W drive with Blu-Ray reading capability.
A DVD-ROM drive, by definition, cannot write to anything, it just reads CD-ROM & DVD-ROM discs (ROM = Read Only Memory).

Device Manager is a very useful tool but it's not very clever at knowing when a device is physically broken, as I suspect your drive is. Provided the drive is connected up properly, will turn on, & has it's driver installed, Device Manager will be blissfully ignorant and tell you "This device is working properly" even when the device has an internal fault.

Concerning: E-MU 1820 SOundcard.

System: Pentium 2.8GHz duel core, 2gb ram

This problem seems to have begun occouring since i foolishly used "oxygen"s cracked version of logic Platinum 5.2..this had to be done for a course i am on, and no, i dont have £1500 or o to spend on a mac and logic!
The program itself has ran fine with my hardware and was working for a week or two with a few hicups but nothing major.

Recently,my outboard box (The preamp section to my E-MU 1820 soundcard) started to play up and occasionally fail to startup. This was resolved with a simple un-install/re-install.
Howver it got more and more common over the last few days, until every time i started my computer the computer would reboot whenever it got to the point where the outboard box for the 1820 would normally initialize..i would have to go into safe mode, uninstall the hardware, restart and then reinstall(I have tried the downloadable drivers from your site and these do not make any differnce as to the original packaged ones) and restart(This morning). Now,it will not start at all, with the hardware installed..whenever the outbpoard box attempts to initialize, it restarts.
Several times as well, i have encounterred blue screen crashes during the reinstallation of the drivers and am told that windows must restart to prevent damage to the system and since these mid install crashes i am also getting a message upon startup announcing "The applkication DLL C:/windows/system32/CTDPROXY.... Hi I have a Toshiba Sattelite L305D laptop.  My printer is HP Photosmart C4480 all-in-one.  I have had it for over a year, it worked just fine.  Now I cant use the scan feature, I get a message  saying "imaging device is not found".  I have uninstalled, reinstalled, the cd software that it came with, and have gotten the software package from HP's website, and it is all updated.  I can make copies, and print from the pc and the printer console.  I do not know what else to do.  I did see error in device manager stating the registry entries were not configured correctly/ or damaged.  I do not know how to mess with the registry.  Any help please would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Answer:HP Photosmart C4480, wont scan anymore

Not knowing EXACTLY how you uninstalled and reinstalled the device software that is usually the area that causes the type of problem you are having. You need to completely uninstall ALL the software related to the ALL IN ONE device not just the scanner software. You will need to do that via the add/remove programs. You will need to verify that after you believe the software has been uninstalled that no reference to the printer exists in the control panel printers tab.If any reference to the device remains at that point you need to go into the "device manager" and delete the device from there. Once that has been accomplished then you need to follow the instructions for installing the all in one as if it was a 1st time install. That usually means a precise order of actions.Such as not physically connecting the device until advised by the installation program to do so. So when you have uninstalled all the software appropriate to the device you need to also physically disconnect it from the computer. While you are probably beyond the free phone tech support from HP you most likely still have free tech support via the HP Tech support web site. If the suggestions preceding do not resolve your issue you might give that a try. good luck, truenorth

So I went to Best Buy to get a gaming computer, letting the sales associate know right off the bat that i will not understand all the technical talk and whizkid jargon that he would normally use to entice people. He led me to a computer (HP Envy) with two terabytes of memory and 12 gigs of RAM. I said i would take it but they only had the floor model as they were out of stock. i got the floor model because i did not want to leave without a computer. i also told the sales associate i wanted a graphics card that would allow me to play any game currently on the market (in 2013) with no problems whatsoever. They led me to a video of some card called "the titan" and i refused when i found out it cost near $1,000. So i bought the 2GB EVGA GeForce GTX 660 for around $300. I had problems with the computer not working with the video card, a number of beeps going off. Geek squad told me that it meant the power supply was insufficient. So i got a new power supply, installed it, then installed the video card. I think we installed the software first, then installed the card, but i'm not 100% on that. This was back in 2013. All was well until my computer got infected and i had to reboot it with the system recovery discs i got from HP. I tried installing my video card again after i finished the recovery because the geek squad guys recommended that i disconnect it while resetting the computer. i heard the beeping sounds again and there was no video on my screen. i was confused... Just recently, within the last couple days, my screen saver has decided not to work. It has always worked without any problem before, and im not sure why it decided to stop.

I've checked everything that i know with my knowledge, but it seems fine.

A couple possibilities are that when i did a google search on this problem, i found a post saying something about editing the screen saver file in C:\WINDOWS, but i notice that i dont have that file.

I dont know if the file was always never there, or maybe it was deleted somehow.

Another possibility is that there is a program running in the background, but i dont think that is the case because its the same programs running when it worked before.

Thanks in Advance

Answer:Screen Saver wont turn on anymore

Well it might be a dumb suggestion, but if you don't have the "screensaver file" (whatever THAT is) where it's supposed to be, maybe that's why it's not working.

So then MAKE one, maybe.

Post a link to the site that talks about the screensaver file and maybe we can make you one to fix it. Or something.

Have you gone to the XP setting from Desktop>Properties ? It has a timer on it so it starts after a certain amount of inactivity. Did this change ?

Can you do the "Preview" ?

Hello, I just bought this logitech headset 3 days ago and it worked fine on a video game called counter strike source when for 2 days but today i tried using it on counter strike source but now it wont work anymore. I went to control panel and i enabled my headset on playback and recording but no response on counter strike. It only works on microsoft speech recognition but not on sound recorder or steam. WHAT IS GOING ON!?!

I even went to Control Panel > Sounds > Recording > Logitech USB Headset > Properties > Levels > Enable Sound

SO, AFTER I DO THAT, I CLICK OK AND THEN OK AGAIN. So I go back on steam and test out the microphone and it doesn't work so i go back to "LEVELS" and then the sound is disabled AGAIN!

I am having a nightmare with my Mouse and keyboard today, they are both wireless- the keyboard has to be right next to the receiver in order to work and the mouse wont double click. I went into control panel and did the fast click slow click setting thingy and it wouldn't open the folder apart from at the slowest setting, which then doesn't work when used outside of the test. At the moment I am having to right click and chose "open". I don't think it is the battery as everything else functions ok.I could reassign the left button as a double click but then I still need a left click and a right click button, anyway. the only thing I can think that I've done is to run live update on Norton! I tried a system restore but this doesn't change anything. This is driving me nuts! Can anybody help?

Have you hade a sneaky Peeky in device manager, might throw some thing up. Otherwise probably try to uninstall and reinstall devices, you could change the batteries first - just in case.
