I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: BUFFALO External USB DVD RW

What is the model of your Buffalo DVD-RW drive? Your laptop should automatically detect the drive when you plug it in via USB. Your drive will definitely work with your desktop, too.In the rare case that drivers need to be installed for your DVD drive, you would want to go to the official Buffalo site to download them.

My external is 2 500g hard drives and is preset for FAT32

I want to be able to put files bigger than 4gs on it, so I have to change it to NTFS, right?

The wall I run into is . . . I will be buying a Macbook Pro in a few weeks and I want to be able to use the HD between the two. From what I read it looks like I could do that with FAT32, but not with NTFS.

I want to know the best thing to do so I don't have to reformat my drive later and have this all be a toilet flush.

I really want to prepare for my mac.

Thanks in advance.

Hi allfamily member purchased one of these and proceeded to install it without reading any documentation. 2 basic questions I need help with:1. Theyre running XP pro but chose the FAT32 option to format the drive during install. Main PC is NTFS. Will this causae any problems?2. Assuming the answer to q1 is no - the drive has install files, log files, and folders all over the place on it. Once installed and back up is running is it safe to either tidy these files into one folder and leave them on the external drive, or take them off the drive to increase space, and keep them on main PC?Hope that all makes sense.ThanksSi67

Hello,

This one is really bugging me because I have checked everything, and I cannot fathom out what is causing the disconnection apart from, either is a MB issue or driver issue...?

Whenever, I turn on my computer and Windows loads it will not load the USB External HDD which has been set to AUTO so it will load when Windows loads. I have tried manual switch but this does not work either. The HDD is a combo HDD with Firewire and USB 2.x although, if I use Firewire instead its fine...?

What is happening is that Device Manager in disabling the device for some reason, and the only way in which I can get Device Manager to recognise the "EXT HDD" is to search for new hardware and then it works...?

The only thing that I found to be a little odd was there is no set power showing for the USB Mass Storage Device 0 mA I know it is the right port location because it is the same number.

Any ideas why this has started to do this...? Any suggestion would be deeply appreciated.

There is something I forgot to mention and that is the battery needs replacing. I have never had a battery die on me on a motherboard ever. The only conclusion I can think for the reason why the battery has been drained in the ROC Logo on the MB I used to leave on and I think it drained the motherboard battery. If the power is terminated, example the PSU is turned off then I have to reset the BIOS. Although, I don't think this is related but I thought I would mention it.

Answer:Buffalo External USB 2.x HDD keep disconnecting

It wouldn't hurt to pick up and install a new battery.

You should also take a look and try to find the USB drivers for your motherboard (or just the motherboard drivers), as it sounds like it isn't recognizing it properly. Also make sure that Legacy USB support is enabled in BIOS.

Hi

I bought a brandnew Buffalo 3TB external HDD Drive station (USB 3.0) (HD-LB3.0TU3-EU)
and wanted to make a second backup of my files which are on another Western Digital 3TB USB 3.0 external harddrive.

So i plugged both in and both were recognized without problem. Then i began to copy the files from the WD to the Buffalo harddrive (both attached via usb 3.0) and it just copied 1 folder and told me that the original file location is not anymore existing and stopped copying.
And somehow my WD drive was not showing up anymore.(but still my buffalo drive)
The WD even did not show up in the disc management setup!
So i decided to reboot and before i did it i removed the buffalo drive via the "safely remove hardware and eject media" button(Right at the startup corner right bottom of the screen).
Instantly after hitting this button the buffalo drive began to make a horrible repeating scratching noise, like trying to park or move the hdd heads continuously). I waited 30 secs then i pushed the shoot down button, nothing after 2 mins waiting for the shutdown of windows i pushed the reset button and reentered win8

Fortunately my wd drive with my files was recognized but not the buffalo drive anymore
At the disk management setup it gives me the initialise disk where i can choose between MBR and GUID but with both options it gives me an I/O drive error
I see it as an offline HDD and cannot do anything with it not even remove it.
And i connected it on my Windows 7 laptop, sa... Read more

Hello. I've been having problems with the above drive (similar to this previous thread). I've had the drive for about a year & a half. It worked fine (on Win XP Home) up until a few days ago, when I connected it to my new laptop (Win 7).

I then selected Windows Scandisk, and once the scan completed the HDD was very slow to select. It didn't show any of my files again, and showed the following error messages whenever I tried to access it:

Hi,

I've got a 1TB Buffalo USB external drive. It worked great until about 2 days ago. It was pre-formatted to FAT32, needing to put a 10 gig file on it, I reformatted it to NTFS. No problem.

Except my Xbox, my laptop, and my PS3 didn't recognise it anymore. Only the desktop did. I checked online, it wasn't a problem, cause PS3 and Xbox only read FAT 32 hard drives... so i knew i just needed to format back, and it would all be fine.

So I tried to format it back, but FAT32 was not an option. only exFAT. After reading about for a bit i found out i could format in FAT32 from the CMD dos Prompt.

So I tried that. It stayed at 0% for what seemed like forever, and then the system shut down.

I rebooted and now my drive isn't there. It shows in device manager as "hard drive" with no extra details, but says it's working.

It shows in Drive Manager, but is listed as "Unallocated" and "not initalised"

I know i need to initialise it to get it show again, however anytime i try I get this error:
Data Error (Cyclic redundacy check)

Can someone please help? I dont care if i lose all the data on it, I just want it reformatted and reinitalised so i can start using it again.

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps in any way.

Hi, does anyone know of "Buffalo"s reliability? It seems my current external drive is about to give up. Its a Western Digital 'My Book' 320gb and its making odd "clicking noises".Yesterday it disappeared from 'my computer' and i eventually got it working after pulling out all the plugs and re-booting pc. The "Buffalo DriveStation" 500gb looks a good buy from Play.com for 50. Any thoughts please - Tony

I have a 500GB Buffalo external hard drive that I use for music, pictures and misc backed up documents. The problem is, I seem to be missing a few GB's.

The HD shows:
173 GB of music
2 GB of pictures
5 GB of documents
180 total should be listed....

.... but instead it tells me that 446 GB are being used and the HD is nearly full! For the life of me, I can't figure where all this "extra stuff" is located. Why would my HD be saying it's so full, but I can't find anything else on it?

I did a disk cleanup on the HD, then I did a Windows defrag on it... and it still shows 446 GB being used in total.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
-Steve

Hi Everyone,

I am using a Buffalo LinkStation (LS-QVL), it is configured for RAID 10 and has 4 Terabytes of capacity. I am not using anywhere near the full capacity (instead I am only using about 6%!). It has occurred to me that I should make an off-site backup of the content on the LinkStation. Toward this end I would like to backup the contents of the LinkStation to an external USB hard drive.

Can anybody tell me if it is possible to backup files from this NAS to an external hard drive? If it is possible any advice on how to set this up will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Davo

Answer:Backing up Buffalo NAS to an external hard drive

Unless your NAS has a provision to mount the external hard drive via USB and supports file transfers between the volumes, you're going to have to do this over the network with the external hard drive connected to a PC that is connected to the NAS.

Hi all,

New to this site, so hope this is in the right place and hope you can help!

I have just purchased a 500G Buffalo external hard drive, HD-PC500U2/BK-EU. Plug it in and it is recognised by my P.C (running XP) but I cannot go any further and cannot run the DriveNavi.exe file which is on the external HD. All I get are the following error messages

The application failed to inialize properly (0xc0000006). Click OK to terminate the application.

and

F:\DriveNavi.exe
Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed

and

F:\DriveNavi.exe is not a valid Win32 application

I have trawled the net to try to find a solution and Buffalo support are no use at all...and extremely frustrated and would appreciate any help, please

Answer:Buffalo External Hard drive problem-Help please!

That sounds like an autorun request for the bundled DriveNavi.exe program. And "trawled the net"? . I think you've gotta format the HDD. That might just do the trick.

Hi,I usually have my buffalo external hdd connected to my dell studio 15. I tried shutting down once but accidentally put it into hibernation. So after it hibernated I switched it back on, the hdd would spin up a couple of times, but as it got to the desktop it would spin down. I try to access the hdd and I can see the folders etc, when I try entering a folder such as "music" for example, the hdd would spin up, but then a message would say the folder music is unavailable. So I refresh the window, and the music folder disappears! just like that, now after the spin up, i can access the rest of the folders, but the "music" is just gone forever. Does anyone know what's going on or how I can get that folder back. It was actually the "documents" folder in my case, but music was an example. Thanks

I have a desktop PC that does not come with any USB 3 ports on its mainboard. Yesterday I bought a PCI-E to USB 3.0 expansion card with two ports.

I installed the card, connected the floppy power cable, and windows 10 installed its driver with no issues. There is no yellow mark in the device manager.

First I connected my USB 3.0, 2.5" Seagate drive and windows properly recognized it and set its speed at USB 3.0. I copied a lot of files at a constant max speed of about 95 MB/s. So far everything is good.

Then I tried my 3.5" Buffalo USB 3.0 drive. No matter what I did, it simply would not connect at USB 3 speed, only USB 2. I tried both ports. The drive's external power adapter is connected.

Windows does know that it's a USB 3 device, since it shows the message "This device can perform faster if connected to USB 3.0".

The drive does come with a cable with blue USB 3 connectors.

Anyone ever experienced such an issue before?

Answer:External 3.5" Buffalo USB 3.0 drive only connects at USB 2.0 mode

In general, the first thing to try with any USB device that doesn't behave correctly (or at all) is to open Device Manager, find the device and uninstall it. If you don't currently have the device connected you may need to select 'show hidden devices' in Device Manager's 'View' menu.

If an inappropriate driver had been loaded the first time it was connected it will continue to be used on all subsequent times. Uninstalling it will make windows 'forget' and choose the driver from scratch.

Hi,I have an external USB Buffalo hard disk attached to my Lenovo E73 W7 Pro PC.If i boot with it connected then the PC won't boot through to Windows until i disconnect the Buffalo.I have been into the Bios and set the boot order to not only styart with the HD but also ignore USB and CD ROM.Interestingly before i changed the Bios it would stop the boot and when i disconnected the Buffalo i would get the option to go the bios; now that i have changed the bios although it still doesn't boot through to Windows, when i disconnect the Buffalo the Windows spalsh screen appears immediately. So..My thoughts are that the bios change has been a good thing and now there is a Windows option that needs to be changed to make it boot to Windows ignoring the Buffalo until it has started. Has anyone any advice please? Cheers,Simon

Just a generic question...
Does anyone know if the Buffalo WLA2-G54C is compatible with non Buffalo wireless routers? I have a Dlink router (don't know the model off the top of my head) with various brands of client adaptors. I've heard good things about the WLA2-G54C for the repeater function.
I ask this because of this statement on their website:
Repeater/Bridge function of the WLA2-G54C is supported only with Buffalo bridges and routers. But, the device can communicate with other manufacturer's 802.11b and 802.11g client adapters either in bridge/repeat mode or as a stand alone access point.
Does this mean that it simply won't work with other brand routers or that they just won't support it. I would think the latter but was curious if anyone had any experience with it.
Thanks!

I recently purchased a Buffalo 2tb usb3 external drive and a icy box usb3 pci card. (See 'New usb3 pci card not mounting usb3 external drive' in this forum for more details.)However, after installing the card in my pcie x1 slot it will let me read everything I put in it which is usb2. But it will not let me mount anything that is usb3.In small print on the Buffalo Manaul which I downloaded from their site, it states:'* A USB3.0 interface manufactured by Buffalo is required to use this drive at SS mode specified by USB 3.0 standard (logical transfer speed 5.0Gbps).'Surely they can't expect us to buy the Buffalo usb3 pci just to get this drive to work! Am sure lots of other people will go for a cheaper pci card that does the same job too. Also, I don't really want to purchase the Buffalo pci card and have the same trouble again as I did already.

As far as I know Windows 7 doesn't support USB 3 yet. Support will be added at a later date, probably incorporated in a Service Pack.

This router is causing me some grief with the wireless setup, as although I'm getting a respectable signal strength, the internet just keeps dropping out for some reason. I'm hoping the firmware upgrade will help.

However, it seems you need a degree in Nuclear Astrophysics to be able to do it. Is there a simpler way?

Just bought the buffalo wzr-600dhp router using dd-wrt open source software.

I needed a router I could control bandwidth with with a good QOS feature pack.
QOS kinda works out of the box on this router but setting limits by IP or MAC seems broken.
Cap only works by setting the uplink speed and that is what it stops at.
Just wondering if anyone else has this router and has gotted QOS to work properly?

Also had a hell of a time getting it to work with my isp and DNS apparently these 3 boxes under setup had to be unchecked to get things to work.

Well I'm getting some strange results...Especially since my old Netgear Bridge is pretty much broken (it won't connect to anything).

First Test I did was Placed the Buffalo router in place of my netgear Router and checked the signal on my wireless USB dongle. It stayed the same. I proceeded to Boost the Signal in DD-WRT using Xmit Power I boosted it from 28 to 100, the signal to the card did not budge...So much for having High signal strength compared to my 3 year old wireless G netgear, or this hack to increase the signal. So far, wasted money.

Now Since my bridge (netgear could still not connect (it can only detect networks, but not connect to them as of last weekend wtf!) It was time to put the router back in place and try the Buffalo as a Bridge.

I placed both routers next to each other; they are roughly 25-30 feet from my Main Router. I enabled the Client Bridge on the Buffalo MIMO Router.

Both Routers had about the same signal I'm getting about 48-60% at this range (Pretty terrible!) DD-WRT However also tells me the signal quality as well which is POOR about 35-39%

Next test was to scan for other local networks. The netgear is picking up all kinds of stuff, between 4 and 7 networks! Some of which appear to have a stronger signal than my own router not more than 30 feet away (say 35%, 40% 65% and 70-99%)
The Buffalo router only picks up 2-3 networks at a time, not always event he ones that are appearing as 99%, which also have str... Read more

I guess you installed SP2? I never saw any difference with SP2 set to more than 10mw. Only SP1 seems to register changes to the xmit. That's why I stuck with it despite some other improvements in SP2.

Once you get SP1 working, set it to 80mw-100mw and swap it with your landlord's router. Then put your older router back bridge mode. That should be the best combination if you just ordered one. Before you disconnect the landlord's router, be sure to login to release its DHCP connection.

Hello Major Members,

I have a Buffalo NAS (LS-V2.0tl) that appears to be working via a shared drive, but doesn't seem to work as a bit torrent drive. It has a steady red continuous light on that I'm unable to fix. Originally, I would just play with the function key because it was blinking in intervals of three. The only thing that happened while playing with the function key is that it is now a steady red light.

Once upon a time, I remember that there was a software fix for this but have seen it since.

Any ideas or assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

Morning,I've got the above wireless router which has worked well up until last sunday, I got round the problem and then it happened again on Tuesday. The problem im having is that the computer using the buffalo adapter is struggling to recquire a network address and my wireless laptop won't log on with the correct SSID and AES key.I've used AOSS to setup the network, which works really well. To get round the problem I was having I cancelled AOSS, unplugged everything and deleted any profiles for that connection, re-plugged in everything and started AOSS from the router and the buffalo adapter, this set up another secure wireless network automatically. This worked a treat for two days then it happened again.Does anybody know why this is happening or can help me stop it from happening. Its pretty easy to restart the AOSS, its just annoying that I need to keep doing it. Its stopping others in the house from using the net while im out or away as im the only 1 who knows what to do.My PC wired to the router works fine all the time so im guessing that the router is changing some wifi settings itself . Maybe I might be better binning AOSS and setting up the wireless side manually. Thanks for any help

Unfortunately, we're clean out of our WHR-HP-G54s and are looking for a comparable replacement.

We used to stock the Linksys WRT54G's but had some issues with them failing at client's and haven't been overly impressed.

The buffalo's have been rock solid, we've sold 100s of them without a single failure.

I don't mind going back to Linksys if that's the way to go, but I'm not afraid to try something different.

It needs to be able to handle DDWRT or Tomato and needs to cost less than $75 shipped as anything more expensive isn't marketable. I buy these in quantity so telling me to get an older version of WRT54G isn't going to happen.

Thanks!

If there's nothing you want to keep on it, right click it in disk management and format it to NTFS.

If there is stuff to keep, look online for a partition repair utility.

Hello Everybody.
This is the problem i'm facing with a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 access point and a switch.
I wanna use the Buffalo as router. I'm connecting the Buffalo Wan port to the DSL modem and one of his lan ports to a PC. Everything is working fine and connection is up.

If i connect the second port of the Buffalo to a switch connected with 6 other PC, the link led on the Buffalo blinks (showing no correct connection) and the led on the switch doesn't light up.
Same thing happens if i connect the second port of the Buffalo directly to another PC network card. On the network card the link led doesn't light up and on the Buffalo the led blinks.

Which is the mistake ?

Thanks in advance for your help

Hello.I have a ADSL BT Voyager 210 unlocked with AOL as my ISP- it's connected via USB. I finally got the modem working, but now I can't get my router to work. I have the Buffalo AirStation WHR-HP-G54. It's not connected properly because it's not connected to my computer via an ethernet cable, because if I do connect it with the ethernet cable my computer loses it's internet conncetion. I've got an ethernet cable connected from my modem to my router, and that's it. Will this not work, do I have to connect the ethernet cable formt he router to my computer? I can't access the website (the one where you put in the IP). Thanks for any advice on what I should do.

So I ordered the Buffalo router recommended on the "help me pick a router" thread and am awaiting its arrival. I have been doing a little reading over at the DD-WRT site and also searched for the latest build for this router. The router itself is not listed. There is some talk about instabilities and shortcomings with the current DD-WRT builds on their forum.
My question is this. What version shall I upgrade to upon receiving the router? Or, should I just try it out with the factory installed DD-WRT and see what happens? What have you all done with this router?
Any feedback is appreciated. My plan is to get it set up quickly, minimizing down time as wife is minimally tolerant of that sort of thing! I don't want to hear any "It worked fine before, why did you need to upgrade?"
Thanks,
Pat

Answer:Buffalo WZR-HP-G450H

Well after looking at the site your best bet would be the most recent firmware released 4/03/12 from buffalo, as it does not appear that dd-wrt has any firmware on their site.
Here is the ftp, you can also find the link via the buffalo site here.

Good luck as from what I have read this is a very flaky with dd-wrt. I hope the issues have been resolved in the newest firmware.

Does anyone know where I can get a Manual.

In Particular I want to know how to play a CD which already contains normal photographs.

If it's not a video CD, but a data CD then typically you just load the video file(s) in a player. Or if you have a player associated with video file types, just double click on a video file after opening the drive in Explorer.

Hi
I've got a Buffalo Linkstation 120, great bit of kit but with one annoyance, if it's powered off there appears to be no way to power it back up without actually pressing the button on the front.
It's currently situated in the loft so it's a bit inconvenient. I've tried several WOL programs but with no luck so far.

Any tips or workarounds would be gratefully received.

Answer:Buffalo Linkstation 120

I, too, have a Buffalo Linkstation 120. There is no mention of wake on LAN in the user manual, nor is there any mention of it in the FAQ section on Buffalo's web site. I cannot imagine that there is a way to accomplish it since wake on LAN is a feature that, on PC's, must be supported in the BIOS. If the Linkstation does not have that feature, I doubt it could be added.

Since the Linkstation is a network attached storage device running its own operating system, it's similar to a file server and can be kept running 24/7. I have had mine for over six months and I leave it on continuously so that all the PC's in my home have access to it.

Out of curiosity...why do turn it off? Or is it that you lose power and then must power it back on manually.

Hi, Hope this is in the right section.....

Ive got a Teraststaion which is up and running in the office on two computers (one Mac and One PC) as well as a laptop. We want to be able to take the laptop to other place (e.g. bosses address) and still connect to the TeraStation. Ive called BT who told me I needed to set up an FTP which they've done for me. But I still cant see the TeraStation on the laptop out of the office. Do I need a VPN (never done one of these before and not entirely sure how its different from an FTP) or do I need do so something with the settings on the TeraStation?

Sorry but I really think I need the idiots guide here as this is a bit more beyond me than I thought it would be!

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Buffalo NAS TeraStation help set up

If you have been set up to connect to the Terastation via FTP while away from the office, then that is exactly what you need to do. You cannot 'see' the drive when you are away from the office. FTP requires either a dedicated public IP address or port forwarding done at the router to the Terastation. The easiest way to do this would be contact BT and have them tell you how to connect to it, then use an FTP client like Filezilla or WinSCP, Realistically, both FTP and VPN require advanced networking to setup properly. Are you sure your Terastation does not provide some kind of web service that you can use to connect to it remotely?

Just installed one of these for a friend, they pick up the signal from a router to allow a sort of networking but only for the internet (broadband) connection. All works fine very fast download time nut then seems to lose the signal and files stop downloading and web is unavailable. The only thing that will reset it is to reboot when it finds the station again. Its obviously set up OK as it workd for about five minutes perfectly then gives up completely, I've changed the ip adress and thats about the only fine tuning I can find.Any Ideas anyone before I buy 15 metres of patch cable and do things the easy way?

I have a Buffalo Linkstation Quad with 4x 1TB disks in it, they are configured into 2x RAID 1 arrays of 1TB each, giving me a total of 2TB Storage.

My question is, is 2x RAID 1 arrays considered `safe` from a redundancy point of view?

I`m toying with the idea of a QNAP ts-419u+ -->> http://www.qnap.com/pro_detail_feature.asp?p_id=190.

I like the idea that it can use 2.5" and/or 3.5" drives, but there seems to be one thing missing.... some kind of torrent support.

Does anyone know of a nice NAS with upgradeable disks with decent performance that supports FTP, DLNA, BitTorrent, rack-mount would be nice, as would a web server but neither of these are deal-breakers/essential, oh, and support for a different RAID level (to be recommended here) RAID 5 maybe??

Many thanks

Options?

Thanks again.

I recently retired my WRT54G and replaced it with a WZR-HP-G300NH.

I'm still tinkering around with it and i don't know if these are normal.

- Maximum file transfer over LAN is 30MBps? Is this as fast as it'll go?

- Maximum Wifi transfer over Wifi is 11MBps/3MBps UL/DL? Is the uneven bandwidth normal?

- When i enter my internet IP, i get sent to the routers setup page "Permit Configuration from wired Internet" is already disabled but outsiders still have access to the router. The checkbox for it on the WRT54G atleast works, or is there a different place to set it on the buffalo?

- Can't seem to get port forwarding to work. I've set it up on the WRT54G and i've been hosting some test websites, but i can't seem to get port forwarning to work on the Buffalo.

- With port forwarding "running". When i enter my home ip (i.e. 555.444.333.222), the routers setup page gets run instead. Even if i use the forwarded :80 port( ex. 555.444.333.222:80 -> 192.168.1.100:80), it only opens the routers setup page. All other ports return an error. Even if i were to say that "80" is supposed to go to my IIS server, it will only open the webpage of the router.

Did i miss a checkbox somewhere? The interface is different from a linksys so i'm still figuring out where everything is. On the linksys, no matter how much you set, there's single checkbox separate from everything that has to be toggled to act... Read more

I have the 250GB model of the Buffalo LinkStation. Last night I enabled the FTP server for the first time. Everything works great at home. Can get and put files just fine. However, when I get to work today, no such luck. I get "Connection closed by remote host". I have forwarded ports 20 and 21 to the IP addy of the LinkStation in my router.

Also, I do have RDC working to my home PC so I know for a fact I am able to access my network at home, and my DynDns.org account is working fine.

Any suggestions? Anyone else having this problem? Thanks!!

Answer:Buffalo LinkStation FTP problems...

FTP is pretty complex, and you're not likely to get a SOHO router working for it without opening a slew of high-number ports. i think it's passive mode ftp where the server and client only use port 21 in order to negotiate the use of a higher number channel for the actual data transfer. once they've agreed on a port to use the client makes contact on that channel. this is an unrelated connection as far as your router's state tables are concerned and hence the connection is getting blocked.

you could solve this in a couple of ways.
1) use openbsd + pf + ftp-proxy. ftp-proxy is usually used to go out to ftp servers on behalf of clients behond the firewall, but it can be used the other way as well. it would help because you can use "user proxy" tags and pf will know which connections to allow/disallow even though technically speaking the 2 connections are not related in the sense of state tables.

2) open the range of high-number ports on your router that ftp uses. it should be a range- not like you need to open everything above 1023. i think it's everything above 49151 actually. that still leaves you with ~16K open ports though which i would not consider a good idea.

3) wait for someone else who has a better idea to come along and post to the thread.

I have a brand new Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 that just came from newegg. I'm trying to get dd-wrt onto it so that I can then install tomato.

I am not able to update the firmware to dd-wrt through the stock firmware. Whenever I use the tftp or a tftp batch, it reports "connect request failed."

The router is not bricked. I am able to log into the stock settings after each failed attempt to flash the new firmware.

What am I doing wrong and how can I get dd-wrt installed?

I have tomato on another buffalo and the installation didn't seem that hard back then.

Answer:Having trouble installing DD-WRT on Buffalo WHR-HP-G54

You have to time the tftp put just right with those guys or you miss the opportunity to flash it. I've done a ton of those routers over the years. Sometimes it takes a few tries to get it, especially if you're running anything other than XP or Server 2003. Are you following the guide on the DD-WRT Wiki? Static IP on the correct subnet on your host?

Hello

You guys are my last hope...

I have been using a Buffalo WMR-G54 router for the last 3 years, and can't honestly say I have ever had a problem. I dabble in a bit of MSN messenger and have been using the Beta version of live messenger for about 6-8 months. I since noticed I had no security set on the router...so I set up WEP, which seemed easy, except, the router kept then cutting out...so i toolk the secuirty off again. Siince then, I cannot use windows live messenger, only the old standard one that comes with windows, also i cannot visit sites such as myspace and bebo. I have hard reset the router now on several occasions.

I have read online that I need to change the MTU settings on my router, but I cannot find how to.

If you know, or have any suggestions to my annoying problem then please help

SO ITS THIS SIMPLE - I CAN ACCESS THE NET FINE. CANNOT USE MSN MESSENGER LIVE OR MYSPACE OR BEBO >PLEASE HELP
Anna

Answer:MTU Settings Buffalo Router - Please help

I would first suggest getting back to defaults. There should be a button either hardware on the router that must be depressed for several seconds and/or a restore factory defaults button on one of the router management pages. My experience with loss of signal is due to the WEP setup. Your router and wireless computer may not be exchanging the credentials properly - good chance if turning WEP off allows reconnection. As far as the MTU I don't think you should have to mess with it. Windows (probably Linux too) dynamically changes it depending on communications issues with TCP - packet delivery gurantee. Try upgrading to WPA2. You can also (probably not your problem) download Netstumbler to see if there are other routers close using the same channel or just change the channel. Good luck.

I'm able to access his Linksys router using the public IP address with port 8080, but I have no idea how to access the Buffalo device to adjust its settings. It wouldn't be something like the "http://public IP/local IP : port number" would it?

Is it possible to access the Buffalo remotely or does it need to be Cat-lined to a computer? I'm trying to find out what the model of the Buffalo is. I also don't know which side of the router the Buffalo is on. Because I can access the Linksys, I assume the Buffalo is after it.

Thanks.

Answer:Syntax for accessing a Buffalo

No, the range booster is not going to be on the public (WAN) ip. It should have an internal IP (LAN), you can check the linksys status page for connected devices. Once you find it you can setup port forwarding to it. Just an FYI, don't use port 8080 or whatever the linksys is using, set the port forwarding for the booster to say 8081.

Let me start off by saying i dont know anything about networking and setting up routers and such. But i got one of these routers and need to do a few things with it. Have several questions

I want to be able to throttle the bandwidth to certain devices connected , also log or check the bandwidth used by each connected device. Is this possible?

Where can i find a list of all connected devices? can i control only wireless devices and leave wired devices at full speed?

I tried blocking a couple of websites, but after applying the settings, i was still able to go to those websites.

thanks in advance for anyone that might be able to help me get this set up like i want it

Firstly hi - I own a Link station (LS500GL) pro and use the latest Nas Navigator (2)

My query is on the uSB backups - as the PDF manual differs to thee nas nav interface

Basically I wish to overwrite each backup so that it mirrors the files and structure on the LS

What happens at present is that the back up runs and partially overwrites the previous backup - Ie it doesnt delete old folders- just adds any new ones

The only options confuse the hell out of me - ie

Normal Back Up
Overwrite back up (Complete / Differential)
Overwrite back up (append back up)
Overwrite back up (Differential Backup)

Many Thanks

Ps anyone know where to get a full manual (up to date) !!

Answer:Buffalo Link Station Pro

There are some wrong entries in the drop down box of the Buffalo Linkstations and Manuals.

I have a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 router that is set to Access Point Mode and we use here at our business with laptops and desktops with no problems. I have it set to do WEP encryption with a pass key which is 13 characters long.. I am trying to get our Symbol MC9060 portable data terminals to attach to this. Basically this is a Pocket PC running Windows CE ver 4.0 which we will be using to scan bar codes. I can get it to see the router and get a signal but can't seem to get it to get past that. I will not let me ping anything on the network. I've isolated the problem as being authentication since I've tried the Symbol with my wireless LAN at home with absolutely no problems. My home router is a Linksys WRT54G which is wide open (no security). The Symbol will do these authentication methods and I've tried all to no avail,
None, Kerberos, LEAP, EAP-TLS and PEAP
As far as Encryption it will do Open System, WEP and TKIP (WPA) and I'm using (WEP) as I said before..

Does anyone know what type of authentication the buffalo AP uses? I'm unable to get it to talk to my Pocket PC..

Like I said the Pocket PC works fine on a home linksys with no security and I know they are designed to work with high end AP's like Symbol and Cisco

The buffalo will use whatever authentication you told it to use. Since you choose WEP it is just a sharred WEP key.

I've had this Airstation for about 2 years now at a vacation house, and we disconnect it when we aren't there. Well, I'm there again and it isn't working this time. Whenever I plug it in, the only light on the front that comes on is the "Power" light, and on the back all the lights will come on and stay on. I even plugged it into a LAN like but it still didn't want to work.

Any suggestions?

(We have another airstation in the house and it works fine, its just this one that giving me trouble.)

I'm having some problems with my buffalo router.

It is working with my computer, but not anything else I own (pda, nintendo wii, and nintendo ds). I don't think that I have it set up properly.

I have the cord from my ADSL modem plugged into the "LAN 4" hole on the wireless router. When I want to connect to the internet with my laptop I first have to connect to the unsecured wireless network, and then manually dial my broadband connection.

With this setup I can connect my wii, pda and ds to the router's unsecured wireless network, but not the internet.

I also cannot access the router configuration page through my browser.

I have tried running my adsl modem to the "internet" port on my router. This creates several wireless networks, none of which connect to the internet.

I think that is all of the information. I'm sorry for such a disparate post but, if you havent noticed, I'm quite helpless with wireless routers

Thanks!

Answer:Buffalo WHR-HP-G Connection Issues

There you go! You MUST plug the modem into the WAN port of the router if you expect it to act like a router.

I have set up a home network with the Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 wireless router between two Windows XP PC's (one ethernet, one wireless). It also provides wireless internet to the games consoles

I have two remaining problems that I hope you can help me out with;

1) When I restart the wireless PC it disconnects from the network

2) I cannot connect to multiplayer LAN games between the computers

1...
When I restart the wireless PC I must right click the network connection and select REPAIR before I am able to access the network(and internet, of course). My only guess is that this could be to do with the STATIC IP address I assigned to the computer to enable port forwarding to work (for bit torrent software)

2...
Using Command and Conquer 3 as an example, neither PC can see the other in the Multiplayer-->Network lobby. My only thoughts on this are that I need to forward some ports to play over the network??? Both computers can access the others shared files and folders, and modify them. I also have had success connecting to multiplayer games before by removing the internet connection and connecting the computers directly to eachother using an ethernet cable

Thanks for helping, please explain things in detail (networking newbie!)

I am in the market for new Dual Band Router and want to see if anyone has first hand experience with this Buffalo AirStation AC1300. Router is listed for $119 at Gadgetar, which is a great price IMO.

I have read smallnetbuilder's review about the Bufalo AC1300 and it seems to be not best, but good router as compare to Netgear's AC1700, which is listed $199

My other question is anyone able to run DD-WRT or Tomato on this?

Answer:Buffalo AirStation AC1300

AC is so new and until there are even cards available I do not think many people are going to adopt it for now.

As far as tomato or ddwrt... go to their sites and dig around.

For those who have successfully flashed your Buffalo routers to DD-WRT, please chime in. I decided to flash my wireless router (WHR-HP-G54) to DD-WRT since the stock firmware is annoying the hell outta me. I already read the wiki link for the installation: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Installation#TFTP_Flashing_Buffalo_Routers_under_Windows but for step 4, there are different approaches for loading the new firmware and its like trial and error!

i.e. first approach is to hit enter to start TFTP transfer then immediately connect power to the router.

Another approach is to plug in the power cable first, wait a few seconds until the red DIAG light comes on then press enter to start the TFTP transfer.

Which method did it work for you?
Also, do you leave the cable modem ON and connected when you do the above procedure?

For the stock firmware, my computer gets a different IP whenever the cable modem is turned off and on again. I am wondering if its the same for DD-WRT or does it use a fixed IP everytime?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Buffalo router owners with DD-WRT

I've got the same router, but I installed Tomato rather than DD-WRT, which came with a .bat file and quite a specific guide regarding IP addresses to make things much easier. So you could edit the script and change the firmware target file, or install Tomato to see if you like it, if not you can upgrade to DD-WRT with no problems through Tomato's web UI.

I have built a couple wireless bridges at work with Buffalo WHR-HP-54g's. Since you cannot buy these anymore, what would you folks recommend for using as a bridge? I'm not looking to get into the Cisco Aironet price range. I am willing to use an external antenna though. These devices will be outside, but can be protected in a waterproof enclosure.

Thanks in advance!

I'm a Noob at networking and here is my question:

I just purchased a buffalo WHR-HP-G54 wireless g MIMO router. I liked the reviews I read about it on Newegg and I know someone who has a buffalo router. I couldn't figure out why there was not a buffalo desktop card for my other computer. So... I bought a US Robotics "USR5417 IEEE 802.11b/g PCI Wireless MAXg Adapter up to 125Mbps Data Rates Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), TKIP AES Encryption 64/128-bit Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) encryption 802.1x authentication 802.11i (WPA2) - Retail" Will this card work with the router or do I need to get a Buffalo adapter card that Newegg doesn't seem to carry?

FYI - I bought the card that supported to posted speeds that the router could possibly transmit. Also this will be going from a new Vista machine I'm building to my old XP machine my kids will be using.

Answer:Buffalo Router Question

It will work. It is the protocols that matter, not the make. But since it is not MIMO, you will not get the best performance. Plus you may not be able to take advantage of AOSS. It is a one touch security profile. I do MAC filtering, so I don't use the encryption at all, but I initially set up everything with AOSS, worked flawlessly.

I have a Buffalo Router (WHR-G54S) and Ethernet Converter. I like them and while their manual and documentation leave a little to be desired, their customer service is pretty kick ass. I had an issue so I called their help line on a Saturday. I did not wait on hold, a recording said to leave my contact information and someone would call me back. Sure enough, bout a half hour later I get a call back with a tech that was really helpful and sat with me troubleshooting my issue for about an hour.

Hello,

I bought and installed this router about 3 weeks ago and everything was wonderful. Then my broadband connection from Virgin went down for a day or so, when it started back up my wireless router no longer worked.

I have the PC wired to one of the LAN ports and use the wireless signal for my Nintendo Wii.

I cannot access the router config page at all, when I do a reset it gives a few brief flashes of the diag light before leaving only the power led on the front on. The lights at the back registering the WAN and LAN ports are fine and I have checked the cables. Doing a full factory rest gives the same result. The switch is on AUTO and has always been on auto. I am also 100% sure I have the wires in the correct ports.

The Virgin router works fine and I have done a reset on that - I'm at my wits end as there is really very little else I can do except to reset the router over and over.

Any advice would be gratefully received, I'm still waiting for tech support to get back to me - it's only been 3 days now.

Here is my info, let me know if i can supply anything else. I'm not particularly tech savvie so simple language please.

I have a Buffalo BUFFALO WHR-HP-G54 running stock firmware version Version 1.40 from when I bought the router back a year and a half ago. I'm looking to learn/expand my knowledge and network by trying something like DD-WRT or Tomato, (whatever it's called) so what firmware do you recommend and how do I install it? Can I backup my current firmware as well incase I run into issues?

Thanks!!

I have a Buffalo router (WBR2-G54) which works perfectly. I have bad reception in my lounge so I bought a WLA-G54C repeater to link to the WBR to boost the signal. Both items shipped with the same ip address. I understand that I have to link the router to my pc with an ethernet cable and then link the repeater to the router to access the set up menu. Since both have the same ip address this could be a problem... How do I change the ip address on the repeater? I assume I connect it to the pc seperately first of all and go to LAN settings and change it manually before I connect it to the router. I just need a quick run through for reassurance. Thanks.

So I was buying a wireless router from buffalo and I noticed a $25 rebate. Well, the rebate was 2 rebates, 1 was $10 and the other was $15 so I was thinking I could just mail these rebates to the same place.. both rebates had different addresses and both rebates required the ORIGINAL UPC, ORIGINAL RECEIPT etc. There's only 1 UPC and 1 Receipt. So now that $25 rebate is only good for $15.. just a warning out there for people to not depend on rebates, especially by Buffalo.

I've got a relatively new 1tb Buffalo drive connected to a Laptop. Its been working fine, but now Windows 7 wants to format it.
On connecting the USB cable the disk spins up OK, but then the Win message comes up saying it wants to format the disk.
I'm far less keen on reformating the disk than Microsoft are . . because there's data on the disk that I want to keep.

Any thoughts would be most welcome

However, the router is now no longer working. At all. The lights are on (power and wireless), but nobody is home. I run the setup cd and when it gets to step 18 it simply says it cannot connect to the router. I cannot access the router settings either.

Have I bricked it? I don't know what to do.

I have a Buffalo Wireless to Ethernet bridge installed, and I went out and bought a linksys SMA antenna thinking it would fit nicely in the place of the Buffalo antenna. I try to screw the antenna in, but there is plastic on the sides of the connectors stopping it from going in because the antenna diameter is too big.

Instead of just taking the thing back, I decided to take out my trusty old swiss army knife and cut around the plastic to make it fit. I now have a ghetto WtoE bridge which gets a slighly stronger signal strength.

Just a warning to those who buy the linksys high gain antenna thinking it will fit their off-brand product.

I have two Buffalo LinkStations on my home LAN: 1) an LS ProDuo (LS-WTGL/R1-V3 F/W 3.09) and 2) an LS HD-H160LAN F/W 2.05.

Both devices work fine from my XP laptop. However, only the ProDuo is operable from my newly upgraded Win7 workstation. On the Win7, I can see both devices in my network/workgroup. However, I cannot access any folders on the HD-H160. When I attempt to expand the device to show folders, or map a drive to the HD-H160, Windows Security asks for a UserName & Password, where no combination works. I have minimized security on all devices. (However, on the H160, I am not allowed to remove a password from a user.) I do not receive the credential challenge in accessing the ProDuo.

Any ideas?
