PC crashes on wake-up.

Question: PC crashes on wake-up.

When I 'wake' my PC it freezes (with lots of horiz. lines on the monitor) & is totally unresponsive, to the point I have to shut down with the Power Button. Then it restarts with the option to 'Start Windows Normally' which works fine. Any ideas please? Preferred Solution: PC crashes on wake-up.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I bought this laptop 2 weeks ago, it is a HP Pavillion Notebook. For about a week now, maybe even since when I got it, the laptop sometimes fails to wake up from sleep. The screen stays black, gets slightly lit up to gray, then the computer and goes through all that comes with that instead of waking up.

The event log shows a Intel(R) Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework error.

i have an alienware m15x laptop with win7 and a couple of times a week when i wake my computer up it goes to a blue screen and crashes. after it boots up again, it says intel boot agent ge pxe-e61, pxe-mof check cable. i googled it and people said that sometimes it tries to boot from a network, so i disabled all boot options in bios except the hard disk, but im still having the error. the drive is a 64gb ssd, and it's only a few months old, so it shouldn't be that right? also, i took out the drive and cleaned it with a q-tip as best i could, even though i make a habbit of not touching the terminals of connectors and i couldn't find any dirt on it, but that didn't work either.

Answer:laptop sometimes crashes on wake

ok, this happened again so i took careful notice of what was happening and here's some specifics:
it showed the windows logon screen with some elements missing (like the cammera's display for aliensence) then an element or 2 went away. after about 4 seconds it showed a blue screen for about a second. i couldn't read it all, but i did make out it saying something like collecting data for a crash dump. then it rebooted and displayed the following text:
intel(r) boot agent ge v1.3.35
copyright (c) 1997-2009 intel corporation
pxe-e61: media test failure, check cable
pxe-mof: exiting intel boot agent
operating system not found

after that i power down and reboot, and aside from lost data, i can logon fine (until it happens again)

I had a local shop build me a desktop a year ago.

After a while I began to experience major problems, crashing, not waking from standby, that got progressively worse to the point the machine wouldn't boot.

Perhaps it was a combination of things, not the least of which was the anniversary update. My builder took it in, did all the tests, couldn't definitely find anything directly responsible, and decided to swap out the mainboard.

A fresh reinstall of the operating system was performed and has been repeated seve... Read more

I have this big problem since I have received my P50 (at least for one year now). It is a 7600HQ machine with a Quadro 1000M video card. Let's say I start my day by turning on the laptop. The laptop boots. I see the Windows login screen. If I wait a little the P50 crashed very hard. The screen shows the artifact in the screenshot I have attached but sometimes I see an even color (like yellow) instead of the artifacts. The whole system is frozen. The lights on the keyboard do not react (num lock for example). So I hard reset the laptop using the power button and this repeats for around 10 times before it is booted correctly. And after this: the P50 is rock solid. It stays on for days at a time. Multiple VM's running, 32GB memory, M.2 SSD. Fully functional. So I thought it was Windows and installed Linux. This showed the exact same behavior. Some things to consider: 1. Only happens when I turn on the computer after some down time2. Once up it is rock solid3. Seems to happen more when I connect an external monitor (immediatly after connecting the cable). Both DP or HDMI show the symptoms. But I have seen it happen while using the P50 on my lap.4. All updates installed via the System Update app of Lenovo. Inclusing all BIOS updates5. Tried the hybrid or dedicated options in the bios for the video card. No change.6. It does not happen all mornings. Sometimes it boots up fine on the first try.7. Never happens in the BIOS or boot up screen. Only when the... Read more

Hi All, After installing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update my PC crashes on wake from sleep. It happens about 50% of the time on wakeup from sleep. Here are the symptoms: On wake from sleep my mouse cursor is only visable on my secondary monitor and the screen is blackThe windows working icon spins on blank/black secondary monitor a few times and then the computer automatically restartsI have found a workaround by putting the computer back to sleep before the crash/restart and then waking it up againI have updated my Video Card driver (which happens automatically in Windows 10 anyway)I have emailed AMD tech support and they said it was a known issue but they are no longer updating drivers for my systemDo you have any suggestions on how to fix this issue? I have seen multiple posts for different systems on the Microsoft Tech Support website here are some of them: Windows 10 Anniversary Update freezes at lock screen when waking from sleep http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update/windows-10-anniversary-update-fre...  Windows 10 may freeze after installing the Anniversary Update - Updated 8-31-16 http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-performance/windows-10-may-freeze-after-... These solutions do not work. Thanks for your help!

Hi,

I got a Satellite U300 few days ago, and I am experiencing troubles when the laptop goes into sleeping mode.
The thing is that when it goes to sleep, the screen switches off, but the power indicator remains on (blue), instead of blinking with an orange color.

Then it is not possible to wake up the laptop, and the only solution is to reboot the computer.

I've been trying the different possibilities to get into the sleeping mode, and I get the problem mainly when the computer is in the Vista high-performance mode, and when pressing the switch-off key in the fast menu.

I know Vista gives quite some many problems, but I haven't seen anybody here experiencing the same problem.
Should I send the laptop back to technical support?

Thanks in advance,

Answer:Satellite U300 crashes and cannot wake up from sleeping mode

I have had opportunity to work a little bit with several Toshiba notebooks and one of them was Satellite U300. After short check of notebook basic functions I can say for sure that switch between running mode and standby/hibernate work well and I didn?t notice any problem there.

I really cannot understand what is wrong there but please do this:
- If you want to switch into standby choose option using START button.
- Wait a little bit and I hope after few seconds the notebook will change into standby mode (blinking orange LED)
- Close the lid
- Wait a moment open the lid and press power button
I really hope your notebook will start properly and you will be able to use OS again.

Bye

If you are experiencing the S10 with Vista crashing upon resume/wake up from LONG TERM sleep/suspend/hibernation there is some help from Microsoft here: Microsoft KB Microsoft KB1 The second article is more detailed in identifying the correct registry key. This problem with the S10 seems related to the usbvideo.sys driver used by the built-in Lenovo webcam so you have to find the registry key in your S10 associated with the webcam. According to the articles it is a problem with Vista and it exists in other laptops/desktops and other usb devices. These articles may also help if you are experiencing this issue with WIN7.

Hi,

I am new here. Hoping someone can help me out with this issue. I work in IT so am not a complete computer bonehead and am at my wits end with this.

My laptop is about 4 years old, it's a toshiba. For whatever reason, it started taking 5+ minutes to wake up from sleeping. If it sleeps for an hour, it's OK.. but if you leave it sleep all night and try to wake it up in the morning, it's quite cranky. After the 5+ minute wake up, it performs as normal. It was running Windows 7 Home 32 bit.

Troubleshooting steps that I have taken are as follows.

Reinstalled windows. Issue was resolved! but after about 2-3 weeks, issue came back. I thought maybe it was some type of windows update, so I reinstalled windows again and paid closer attention to the updates. Issue presented itself again after 2-3 weeks, and there were no updates immediately done prior to it starting.

I started to think maybe it was something related to my hard drive, so i performed laptop surgery and swapped out my original hard drive with a solid slate drive, and installed windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (this laptop can support 64 bit so I figured why not upgrade.).

issue again was resolved for a few weeks, and now it's back to taking 5+ minutes to wake up again.

If you're turning the laptop on from scratch, it takes 10-15 seconds tops. if you're restarting, it's 10-15 seconds tops (man, I love SSD...)... if you're waking itup within the hour, its 1-2 seconds. But anything longer then that, 5+ minutes.

I've started to have a number of debilitating problems with my lumia 950, which is a shame because they are the same problems that made me leave android for the WP platform. To start off, my phone has been randomly restarting. The restarting seems to have started after the anniversary update version 1607. There's nothing common between one reset to the next, just that they become more frequent as battery life reduces (starts at around 80%). This is also sometimes accompanied by a streak yellow across the screen. I don't know if this is relevant or not.
My second issue, which has been happening the longest, is that the screen will sometimes be completely off when I wake up the phone. I will put the phone into sleep with the power button, and when I wake it up with the power button the screen is black. I know the phone is awake because windows hello will try to sign me in. I have reason to believe that the touch digitizer is also still working. This is fixed either by trying to sleep cycle the phone or by holding down the power button until the phone prompts me to power it off. This seems to wake the screen up. the screen also sometimes wakes up when windows hello signs me in, but this is rare. This problem has become less frequent since the anniversary update.
My third problem is that sometimes the touch digitizer doesn't work on wake. This is similar to my last problem, except that it always goes away by sleep cycling my phone. This problem has also become less prominent ... Read more

I have a Dell Optiplex 755 with WinXPPro SP3, 2GB RAM and an Intel Core 2 Duo E4600, and it is unreliable for Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring. I also wonder whether my Standby - Sleep - Suspend (S1 or S3) is working correctly.

When the PC is in Standby - Sleep - Suspend mode (S1 or S3), Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring work some of the time but not all of the time, and I'd like them to be 100% reliable.

These may be two different problems, but your advice will be appreciated. (Also, if I should post in a different forum, please advise.)

My Network Card is an Intel 82566DM-2 Gigabit Network Connection, and I recently upgraded its drivers using "generic" PROXP.exe from the Intel website, although this has not helped the problem. The specific driver file e1e5132.sys is now from 2009 -- it used to be from 2007. But, as I say, Wake on LAN from Standby was not and is still not reliable, both before and after the driver update.

In Settings .. Network Connections ... Local Area Connections ... Properties ... Configure ... Power Management, all the Wake on LAN options are checked ON:

- Wake on Directed Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet from Power Off State
- Wake on Link

The NIC card's Diagnostic checks are all OK.

My fax modem card is a Conexant D850 PCI V.92 Modem, and I have the most recent drivers dated 7/27/07, version 7.67.0.50. In Settings ... Phone and Modem Options ... Modems ... Properties, "Allow this device to bring... Read more

Answer:Trouble with Wake on Ring, Wake on LAN and Standby - Sleep - Suspend

More to above: Dell has suggested I must re-install Windows. I've never done that, and I realize I'd probably lose all my applications and data - no good. Seems to me that's like using an atomic bomb to kill a mosquito. And why should I assume that will work?

But is there a way to re-install -- or maybe fix -- Windows that leaves everything else safe?

FYI - About a month or so ago, I ran SFC (System File Checker) in repair mode, and that didn't help with this problem.

Any ideas?

Hello. I'm looking at this laptop: http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-15-3542-laptop/pd?oc=fncwg2327b&model_id=inspiron-15-3542-laptop

I would like to know if it has wake on LAN and wake on RTC or not.

Since I did not get an answer here, I went ahead and ordered the machine anyway, and took a chance. It does NOT have either feature in it.

It passed my other tests, so I'm keeping it and the next computer I get will probably have both of those features, but for this one, I guess I'll live without, since the network isn't finished to the point where I could actually use it anyway yet.

When I put my computer in sleep mode, it won't 'wake up'. I have to manually turn off the computer and then start it up again. This has happened twice. I'm not putting it into sleep mode until I find out what's wrong and that's exasperating as I normally leave my computer on all day so I can periodically play my games.

I don't know whether I have a malware problem, or a hard-drive-in-death-throes problem, or what. But I figured it was best to start here, so if it's not a virus I can go over to the XP forum with that ruled out.

Over the past few months my desktop has been steadily driving me nuts. First it began giving me BSODs at random intervals, anything from a day to a month apart. (Currently, about once every three weeks.) The most common error is 0x0000008E, but I've also had 0x00000019, 0x00000024, 0x1000000A, 0x0000004E (PFN_LIST_CORRUPT), 0x0000007F, 0x0000000A (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL), and 0x00000050 (PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA). Usually it crashes at startup, but it has taken as much as twenty minutes. I've tried defragging the hard drive, using a registry cleaner, and replacing Sygate firewall (see below) but nothing appears to have worked.

Then Sygate starting occasionally crashing while I was online. I replaced it with PC Tools free firewall, which hasn't had any problems. (Yet...)

Somewhere in the last several months (hard to say whether it was before or after Sygate and the BSODs, it seems to have been creeping up for a while) Firefox developed an increasing tendency to hang. It reached the point where it was basically non-functional for a good quarter hour after connecting. During that time doing anything - maximising or minimising windows, accessing the start menu - took forever. Then Firefox started crashing - constantly. I worked my way through the official trou... One thing that could make a BIG difference here is the fact one is a PC and the other is notebook. The ATX Form Factor standard for PCs calls for the power supply to deliver +5Vsb standby voltage to various parts of the motherboard, to include the front panel power switch, RAM (for hibernate modes), and various devices (keyboard, mouse, NIC) for such "Wake on...". commands.

A notebook, however, does not have this standby voltage because obviously, it would run down the battery if the charger is not plugged in.

My PC is fairly new and I'm having problems with slow shutdowns/restarts and slow sleep/wakes. Recently it seems to fail waking altogether and restarts after a while instead. Usually during waking I just have a black screen for a long time before the reset/restart but sometimes I see the Windows log-in screen but it's unresponsive.
The problem predates my CPU undervolting and doesn't seem to change when I switch RAM settings back to Auto instead of XMP (I my RAM necessitates some kind of overclock in order to function at its rated speed).

Can anyone advise how to proceed? Thanks.

My main system has Windows7 and I have an HP Proliant Microserver with Windows Home Server 2011 (probably irrelvant) and Wake on LAN hardware. The server is "off" right now, but the LAN activity light is blinking, so the LAN card has retained power (for the W-o-L function).

Do I have all I need to wake the server from my desktop, or do I need to install extra software (to send the "magic packet", to wake the server). If I need 3rd party software, then what is recommended?

I've tinkered with WoL during my professional IT career, but never really had much serious use for it, but now I have systems of my own, I'm more interested in getting it working.

Answer:Wake server with Wake on LAN

It has been a long time since I played with WoL. You might already have what you need to send that "magic packet", but this little 3rd party tool might be easier to use:

Hi.

My windows explorer crashes and restarts every time I perform some action (e.g., opening a file, moving a file, saving a file). I get the standard "windows explorer encountered a problem and needs to shut down; sorry for the inconvenience" message. In addition, trying to attach a file (mostly word documents) crashes the web browser - IE and firefox simply close, chrome gives an error message "plug-in crash - shockwave flash" and becomes unresponsive.

I very much appreciate your help.

Turn on Driver Verifier. Select all checks except Force Pending I/O Requests, Low Resource Sim, and IRP Logging. Restart afterwards. Provide us any new crashdumps.

Note that the latest crashdump can occur commonly from RAM issues. You should run at least 7 passes of Memtest86+.

I'll keep this short and sweet because I know how busy you guys are.
I built a gaming computer from scratch, there were a lot of problems even getting it working initially this time, as compared to the last one I built that I had zero problems with ever.
I am getting a lot of BSOD's, games freeze and crash, movies freeze and crash, and streaming does too. In addition, I am getting an error occasionally with the GPU that tells me it has timed out and reset the GPU. I used the windows recommended fix for this and set the response timeout time to 8 seconds, since I have done so I have only seen this problem once. I was wondering if I had too little power for my system, but I have seen threads with similar problems that have plenty of power. I followed the instructions to the best of my ability, and you should find all of the information you have asked for below. Please don't hesitate to ask for anything else you may need. I truly appreciate what you guys are doing here for so many people.

IMO, the suggested fixes for the TDR timeout of the video card only conceals the problem - it doesn't fix it.If the card is timing out, then fixing the cause of the timeout is preferable (IMO) to just lengthening the timeout. Unfortunately it appears that the system has pirated software. Please get a legitimate copy installed and we'll be glad to help. Here's suggestions on how to ensure that your version is legitimate:  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/genuinePlease be aware that we may not be able to fix it (as the hacks that were done to activate it will cause the OS to behave differently than we expect it to). If that's the case, our efforts to help may just waste your time. Secondly, the forum rules prohibit assisting with pirated software - so the topic would be closed if that is the case.As a courtesy, I will offer an analysis of your issues using the reports you provided.I will not answer any questions about the analysis until the system is made legitimate. If you do make it legitimate, please submit a new set of reports for us to check.Just FYI, sometimes the owner won't know about this.  So here's 2 scenarios that might ring a bell:- if they had a "friend" help with the computer - and the "friend" installed a pirated copy.- or they used a copy that they had from another OEM computer.  The OEM license is tied to the hardware that it came from - so you can't just use it on another system (that means that it's pirated). And here's the analysis... Thanks for listening, as my user name reflects I am now into stuff I'm ignorant about.

History.

Had this computer a little over a year, I7 with 16gb of memory, windows 7 ultimate. etc

About a month ago, started seeing BSOD's. The BSOD would normally reflect "Memory Management" as the cause. Then the browsers started crashing, tried chrome, firefox and IE. Have removed and re installed all of them. I continue to received "windows has recovered" screens.

Was reading this thread, attempted the memory test via CD, it ran for several hours (actually alowed it to run all night. When I went to bed it was on test 8, the errors were moving from 0 to 32767. I got up this morning, same numbers, same test #. Seemed like it was stuck on that run even though the error numbers were still changing.

I have down loaded and ran who crashed. It's conclusion is :

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
12 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. A third party driver has been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:

If no updates for these drivers are available, try searching with Google on the names of these drivers in combination the errors that have been reported for these drivers and include the... Read more

Answer:Browser crashes, windows crashes, memory test won't complete, BSOD

If Memtest86+ is showing up errors, then there are hardware issues present. It's just discerning what hardware is bad. Initial suspect obviously is memory, but the unusual case makes it think it's some logic error like some CPU failure or something. It's also possible that when burning it to CD that the Memtest itself got corrupted somehow (i.e. bad burn).

16 GB is a lot of memory on a consumer motherboard. There is the possibility that while your motherboard can handle 16GB of memory, that 16GB of the actual memory model that you're using may not be supported. Certain configurations of memory can have problematic issues. So while the memory sticks themselves may not be bad, the actual 16GB setup of them may break things.

Have you tested system stability with reduced amount of RAM, like 1/2 sticks of RAM, as well as running Memtest on a couple passes for each separate stick?

I have already begun a System Scan using sfc /scannow in Command Prompt...which just finished upon writing this up an Windows didn't find any "integrity violations"

I have NOT installed the latest Windows Updates only because I haven't gotten around to doing it. I have also read on other forums that Microsoft Security Essentials seems to be the culprit but I wanted to come here to verify that with you guys before I start messing with Windows essential applications.

What I will do in the meantime while waiting for an answer here is run a chkdsk and a virus scan(AVG).

Thanks in advance.

Are you running both AVG and MSE? If so, remove one or the other. Having two security programs that accomplish essentially the same tasks can cause conflicts due to them accessing the same system files or system resources simultaneously. It is possible this is the behavior that is causing your explorer.exe issue.

Hi all, I seem to have a pretty worrisome issue with my (relatively) new Y510p: I was using the internet when my Y510p unexpectedly crashed. No blue screen or other indication of what had occurred showed up on the screen - the computer completely shut off. After this initial crash, the computer automatically turned on again, booting up to my desktop as normal. I proceeded to continue using the internet hoping the occurance was an anomaly, but after around 2 minutes of use, the laptop crashed again. The left hand side air vent (next to where the charging cable plugs in) then proceeded to activate and vent air rather vigourously for around 20 seconds, before also shutting off. After this, the laptop power button lights up for about half a second after pressing, and then crashes/refuses to boot. Notes of interest: - The battery charging light is still on when the charger is connected to the laptop - The laptop appears to be turning on when I press the power button and then almost instantaneously turning off again - The automated venting after the second crash makes me thing it was a heating related issue, however it isn't very hot here at the moment (18C), the laptop was elevated over a USB fan, and nothing intensive was being run (only Chrome) The weird thing is that the laptop has worked perfectly for a month and a half or so, and then suddenly one day after getting home this issue occurs. I'd greatly appreciate any help or insight that anyon... Okay, so I got this new computer (about 2 years ago LOL) but it crashed everytime I started it. So, I gave it to my kids... now I'm finally around to trying to fix it. It has Vista Home Premium. I've run all the updates. When It comes back on (in safe mode) it asks if I want to see why it crashed. It always comes back telling me I need to update my BIOS. So, I check the version... and it is up to date (I did actually DO the update once). It still crashes. I can't make a backup disk in safe mode from my partitioned portion of the hard drive. When I tried making the backup NOT in safe mode... yes, you guessed it... the system crashed. Someone please help me.

My son has Vista on his computer. Can I make a bootable recovery disk from his partioned portion on his hard drive? If so, how do I find my Windows Vista serial number?

I hope someone can please help me. I'll be patient... I've waited this long, what's a bit longer

Thanks All!!

Hello all,

recently my windows xp(sp2) has just encountered a massive set of problems that all started appearing all at around the same time.
1. I cannot install/uninstall any programs, ANY programs, be it warcraft 3, firefox, or word processing applications or anything. What happens is the installer starts up, then when it starts to install or uninstall, it just hangs there completely.
2. Programs that are in use on the computer crash randomly. MSN messenger randomly crashes and just locks up itself and all conversation windows. IE sometimes hard locks itself without prior provocation. Firefox, ms word, windows media player... anything and everything hangs at random intervals.
3. Interestingly enough, when any program hangs, even taskmanager (ctrlaltdel) is unable to close the locked up program. It is stated there as not responding, but when i click end task either of two things happen: a) taskmgr ignores my request entirely b) taskmgr ITSELF hangs (the title says "windows task manager (not responding)"
4. Computer cannot shut down. Clicking the shut down icon on the windows menu lags the entire computer and the menu to restart shutdown or log off never appears. As a result i have taken to manually pulling the plug. Obviously this cannot continue.

I have avast4 which is updated and there doesn't seem to be any viruses or spyware. Also when a program hangs, it doesn't take up more cpu than normal; cpu usage always remains the same (around 0 to 10 for me)... Read more

Hey guys, I'm going on my 10th hour of trouble shooting here.

Started my PC this morning, went and opened Steam, then windows explorer crashed without a message (Task bar disappeared) and locked up my whole PC for about 5 seconds before the BSOD. Rebooted to install "WhoCrashed" to read the minidump. During this process, I went through about 6 other crashes of the same nature. It doesn't seem to be dependent on load, however, because it'll happen just sitting idle on the desktop too.

On the most recent crash, I noticed that around the same time explorer crashed, my Razer keyboard and mouse both died out, leaving me no control.

I just got a new graphics card (NVIDEA Geforce GTX 960 4GB) 2 weeks ago and it was all fine up until now, so I'm not sure if it's related. We put in a Coolermaster CPU cooler at the same time, new thermal paste, etc. and all temperatures are normal (about 90 degrees F, same as always). None of my temps are off from what they've been for the last 2 years, and I don't think I've ever had a BSOD on this custom PC.

Updated NVIDEA drivers from safe mode, started looking into Motherboard updates, but not applying any because I can't even tell what I have already. Everything is fine and dandy in safe mode.

So, please, for the love of all things holy, someone help me out here... I'm good with PC's but I'm at my witt's end here. Attached you should find the proper log and an image from Speccy. Had to take it with my phone beca... Read more

My computer will crash whenever I open Opera, im not sure what the problem is either, although i have a session of different links on there which may or may not be related to the problem. It just started to freeze and crash my computer after I started opening it. My computer will also freeze up and get extremely slow after at random times, not sure if its random or not since theres no definite trend to it but my computer will freeze, no black screen or blue screen though, but the music in the background will continue playing normally and sometimes if im doing something like changing the window im viewing or the such during the freeze, it will execute that change in windows extremely slowly, taking like a minute or so but its extremely slow after that so i'd have to restart anyways. Also, Opera had a more definite crash than this, being unable to do anything. I'm not sure whether its a virus or not since I have found viruses that do similar things before on my computer but malawarebytes anti-malware and superantispyware free doesn't detect any viruses. Also, this does not occur all that frequently, for example: it doesn't really occur when im playing a game full screen like warcraft 3 or fallout 3 but it usually happens when im playing like a windowed game and viewing websites (these websites probably dont contain viruses or the such) on google chrome or playing a windowed game and viewing a manga via images or the such. Hi, I fear that my PC has become posessed by a 'PC SPRITE' or 'Computer Gnome'. This is now my fourth attempt to post this topic.Every time that I restart my system I will have from one to five generic hosts to crash. Internet Explorer has been freezing up and not responding. This has been happening fairly often. Sometimes only two or three times a day, but at other times it happens with every IE that is opened within just a few minutes. So far I have run Microsoft AntiSpy, Ad-Aware SE, and Spybot Search & Destroy. All have came back clean. I have ran ewido, avast!, and Fix-It Utilities 5 anti Virus scans. All have came back clean.I ran Trend Micro's online scanned. It came back clean. I ran TrojanHunter. It came back clean. I ran CWShredder. It found and fixed > CWS.MSConfig < however, that little bugger has reapeared and been fixed twice more since then. It just keeps reapearing on it's own, so I'm not sure if I have actually killed it off or not.Something weired is happening with my sounds too. All of the system sounds have stopped working. I use an internet dictionary that has a pronunciation feature and it's sounds will work from time to time. All of the above is on an administrative account. There is one limited account on my PC, and when I signed onto it I pulled up Henery's severe weather video, It had sound! Not so on the admin account.I also use the internet answering service CallWave, and I have been unable to retrive any of my messages online. Ever... Read more

Im confused, but I will describe this best I can:

explorer.exe crashes when viewing folders or anything built on explorer.exe (I guess) at exactly 11 seconds in on them. It also randomly crashes every couple hours. Im extremely confused by all this and wondering if anyone knows what is going on.

Thanks to anyone who helps or attempts to do so.

Answer:XP SP2: explorer.exe randomly crashes and always crashes when in folders

Have you done any recent updates or installed any new software to the computer?

Also, I would suggest downloading HiJackThis! and then including the log file in a post so that it can be looked at by one of the qualified agents here in order to help you out. Also you might try downloading and installing MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware and running it. I have found that program to be quite helpful in identifying potential OS issues.

If you are getting explorer.exe crashes as often as you say, then there may be more serious damage to your operating system that will potentially result in a clean reinstall.

Hi guys,

I just joined the forums today.

My issue has to do with basically every internet browser I have and Nvidia Geforce Experience.  Whenever I open chrome and opera, both of them crash instantly.  Additionally, whenever I open firefox and edge and go to certain pages such as get.adobe.com or opera.com/download, the websites crash.  On IE, it does basically the same thing; the only difference is that I go to the webpage it generally crashes on and it says IE stopped responding, but IE is still loading the webpages and I can still add a new tab!  Also, after getting an alert yesterday from Geforce Experience that a new video card driver was available, I clicked on the alert, only to have a window pop up saying that it crashed.  I tried to open Geforce Experience again.  Crashed again.

After trying to use a system restore point from October 18, 2016 (before I had this issue) I still had this problem.  A Microsoft support rep said that it is most likely a virus.  I did have trend micro officescan installed at the time, however, but i'm guessing some viruses can get past your security.

The only change I can remember is installing MSI Afterburner.  I may have downloaded a thing or two, but only used trusted sites to download from (Cnet, Opera, sourceforge).

As a last resort, I tried to used Darik's Boot and Nuke using a USB drive that I used Universal USB Installer with to put the DBAN iso on there... Read more

This BSOD has been going on for some time and I finally found this forum. I'm suspecting it is RAM, but I want to be sure before doing the 'shotgun' approach.

Hi ibradh.

Update your ATI/AMD display driver to the latest WHQL.
You can get it from the link in our forum, Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7, or you may go to AMD Graphics Driver and Software and opt for Automatically Detect and Install the appropriate driver for your card.

During installation, you may opt for advanced installation, and install the display driver only, not the Catalyst Control Center.

Update relatek network driver from Realtek. Get the Win7 and WinServer 2008 R2 Auto Installation Program dated 2013/11/26.

Update NETGEAR WNDA3100v2 N600 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter driver from Welcome to NETGEAR Support.

When an old computer crashes during games (BF4) we need to know the following information:

Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.
Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy. Alternatively, you can publish a Speccy snapshot too: Speccy - Publish Snapshot of your System Specs .

I have 2 Acer Aspire V5 572 Series.  Both have general crashes nearly every day.  Every day or two my pc will become sluggish and somewhat unresponsive.  If I go into the task manager and restart windows explorer.exe, the pc will work just fine for another day or two.  My wifes pc will crash at least once a day.  Programs will become unresponsive and crash without warning.  Customer files that have taken hours to develop and design will be lost when this happens.  I don't know what the issue is, but Acer has been my go to laptop since my first one several years ago.  All other brands have fallen short when Acer has always come through.  I would really like to get this issue fixed, but I can't really figure it out.  Thanks

If any of you have a radeon card (might apply to nvidia cards too) and you have been experiencing random crashes to desktop / reboots / VPU Recover windows ...Go into you r bios and change the vid card core voltage to 1.7v, if 1.7 doesnt fucntion, use 1.8. That should fix 95% of all of you crashing problems.

I had tried everything to fix these crashes, formatting HD, reinstalling windows...I even bought a new power supply. None of it worked but since i switched to 1.7v I have had no problems in any games and no crashes at all. It was set to the default 1.64v unbeknownst to be.

Anyways if youve tried everything like me...give it a try I think that it will fix it.

Answer:A FIX for random game crashes and Vid Card crashes!

Ummmmmmmmm... I'm sceptical... I think voltages generally aren't meant to be messed with... if you do, just know that you may run the risk of frying your card...
...right??? not all cards run on the same voltage, and if it's supposed to run on something lower, it could get fried, right?? and then if it's supposed to run higher than that, MAYBE some bugs would get fixed, but wouldn't the card also run slower??

Which radeon card do you have anyway?

EDIT actually, it looks like the standard voltage for AGP cards is 1.5v... upping the voltage will (I believe) up performance a little, as well as heat generated. Too high a voltage, however, will result in BSODs and the like.

It's been a while since this started. I got my Gaming-oriented computer back in 2015 June. It was all nice, huge fps amount in almost everything I played, which made me really happy after years of gaming on a crappy PC.
Some months in, maybe even a year after, I started having problems. I recall having this start on Dark Souls 3: I remember playing the game and, suddenly, a white screen pops up. Computer frozen, buzzing sound in the background. I tried everything before, but after getting no response, I just pressed the "off" button on my computer. This started happening rather frequently ever since.
In LoL too: when the game started, after logging screen... "boom, randomly colored screen followed by a weird sound, have to reset my computer". It started happening in almost every game I played. It doesn't happen as often now in League.
Short ago I bought FFXIV. Great game. 1st day, no problem. 2nd day, got one of the usual crashes while playing. Now I can't play it at all! Whenever I start playing, my game crashes. I have a 30 day subscription I can't use because of this! :(
And all of this isn't the only problem. Since this started happening, I believe that my FPS have gotten lower in every game. Today, before writing this post, I checked my temps while playing League/Ninja Storm 4 Naruto Shippuden. CPU and GPU both at 45ºC while playing, don't think that's any bad!
I have no idea what the problem is. I hope someone here can help me! I haven't cleaned my computer in a wh... Read more

I was having similar issues on windows 7 X64, recently updated to 10, issues are still here. Computer will crash during gaming, sometimes it lasts a while or crashes pretty immediately, afterwards, attempting to start the computer will trigger many crashes during startup.

Errors all appeared to be in the kernal, suspect a hardware issue. PSU? Memory? Possibly GPU?

Steps I have taken:

-Complete reinstall and update to ten
-Update Motherboard Drivers
-Update GPU drivers
-Update DX
-Memtest (Pass) (considering running again)
-ChkDsk (Pass)
-SFC (some errors found that cannot be fixed)
-Reseated/Cleaned memory and GPU
-Dusted and cleaned inside of case
-Tested power supply (slightly undervolt i.e. 4.9 on 5 lead 11.9 on 12 lead)

Steps I have not taken

-Flash BIOS
-Throw computer out of the window

Please find attached the requested dump logs,

As a side note, windows ten doesn't appear to blue screen, it just crashes.

Please help!

Thank you for your attention.

Answer:Crashes during gaming and followup crashes on restart

Heres my rather lengthy memtest, I think I can rule out memory as the issue

Hello all,

I've been using Vista Ultimate x64 for a while now, and while I like it a lot, the seldom crashes I've experienced before have become more common.

Most of the time, it crashes when I'm playing video (any video through WMP). Sometimes, my nVidia driver will recover with the famous nvlddmkm.sys message. Mostly, though, my dual monitors just go black, and I have to restart. Once, the computer crashed (screens went blank, no blue screen or error) withOUT playing any video or anything -- I was just browsing the internet.

I am using a 7800GTX video card with 136.75 drivers. I have tried about 10 or 15 different types of drivers before this, and all with the same result.
Does anyone have any tips? Hopefully some new resolution for this old problem? Thanks

Answer:Vista Display Crashes and General Crashes

Yes, move back to XP and bang your problems are gone.

If you have to stick with Vista for some unimagible reason, start looking for memory problems. The stupid superfetch loads up your ram to full use just to make sure your system will get stability problems in case there's a problem in even one memory module on your system. That way people will spend more on hardware.

HI there i have noticed recently that i have been getting odd explorer.exe restarts whenever i go to Control Panel-System & Security-Windows Update. After clicking windows update explorer will say it needs to restart and go ahead and restart itself. The problem is that it is completely random when it happens. I can't reproduce it 100% of the time. I thought it might be a memory problem but i ran memtest for 13 hours and no errors came up. I ran a chkdsk and sfc /scannow and both also returned no errors. I have disabled all non-microsoft shell extentions as well and that still hasn't stopped the issue. It doesn't bluescreen or even cause any other issues from what i can tell and i can continue using everything afterwards just fine and even go into the Windows Update without it crashing. It only seems to get messed up after a reboot. I also haven't been able to install any Windows SDK to check the dmp file myself.

Now a new problem i have been having is with the Witcher 2. During cutscenes the computer will lock up and my monitor will return "No Display" but my computer will remain on. I can't ctrl+alt+del or do anything. I thought it might be my temps but my gpu was registering 71c and my cpu was registering 42c. I have to hard reset everytime.

These are the errors i get in eventviewer when explorer crashes.

This happened recently after my sister downloaded something from the internet, and when I opened the folder to transfer it to her flash drive, a notification popped up telling me that, "Windows Explorer has crashed," and then it restarts (not the computer, just explorer. It sort of "refreshes" the desktop), then loads, and then crashes again.

I can still use my laptop normally from adjacent accounts, and when I tried deleting the file (the source of all of this, I'm assuming) it says that I need the permission of my main account, even though this account that I am currently using is also and administrator.

Can someone give me a little help? If there is none to be found I can use this side account for a while until something can be done, but it is incredibly inconvenient.

I am using Windows 7 currently.

My computer started crashing when I would try to run Norton AV . Then it started crashing when viewing pictures and videos. Took to repair shop and they could only find some spyware. I told that that everything was backed up so to just refomat. They also tested my ram and said it was fine in the testing but suggested changing it if the problem continued. It started crashing agian soon after getting it home. I replaced my ram and it still crashes. However yesterday I did get a successful virus scan.. everything looked fine with that. It is and Asus bourd, AMD 2200, Win XP with all the current windows updates. Any help would be appreciated.

PS
I had this problem a year ago and it seemed that replaceing a ram stick fixed it. When researching that someone suggested it could be the cache on the mother board. Could that be possible?

Hi,
Before Christmas I started getting browser and sometimes PC crashes. At first it seemed to be browser related. But the PC would also crash when idle. I tried disabling add- ons in Firefox and opening in safe mode. Tried using Chrome but it would crash with the message that Flash had malfunctioned. Then I started getting Stop messages and BSODs. (I hadn't installed and new hardware and, I don't think, installed any new big programs except for updates to existing ones.)
I emailed a few of the mini dump files to a friend. He said they didn't specify which drivers were causing the problem. But it might be something to do with the video or the network card. I rolled back drivers. No change. I updated drivers and uninstalled lots of programs. For a month everything seemed stable. Then the BSODs started to return. Infrequently at first but then more regularily. Sorry the story is a bit confused but it is difficult to remember every detail of what happened and the order I did things in.
The event viewer says that they are either error 1003 or 1001. Would someone be able to look at the recent minidump files and see if they specify any particular drivers? Or suggest any other steps I can take to cure the problem?
Thanks, John

Win 7 and Skype 6.3 just plain hate each other. I cannot get that thing to install with crashing my machine. I recently looked through the Registry and found dozens (at least) of entries for Skype. I've tried to install Skype both with and without ZoneAlarm running - it makes no difference - everything crashes during the Skype install.

Regarding the Skype entries in the Registry - is there a liklihood this is what's crashing Skype, and do those entries have to be deleted. and if so, how?

I looked through a few similar threads, but none seem to be the same problem, so here goes...

I recently bought a new computer with XP pre-installed. I installed Office 2000 professional. This worked fine on my old computer under 98, but now it has lots of problems. My fav program ever written, Photodraw crashes upon startup, Frontpage crashes on Saves and Excel does whatever the hell it likes with my data. All other programs work fine so I'm assuming its not the hardware that has the problem.

When I got the computer it had Word 2000 and Works Suite already installed. I didn't remove these before installing office.

I was going to uninstall Office [and Word] and Works and then try installing office again. Will I be wasting my time? Does anyone know what exactly is going on?

Thanks

Randomly when I am using my computer (Acer Extensa 5620Z laptop, Windows XP Pro SP2) I get the Microsoft Error report box saying Windows Explorer encountered a problem and needed to close and prompts me to send the error report to Microsoft. After I click Send or Don't Send (doesn't matter which one), I get another prompt saying Dr Watson encountered an error and needed to close.

Everything then locks up - Start Menu won't open and programs won't minimize or maxmize from the taskbar.

When this first happened I tried to use Task Manager to start explorer.exe again, it didn't work. I checked in the processes tab and explorer.exe was still listed. I tried to End Process on it and it stayed there. I then noticed that drwtsn.exe (might not be 100% correct) is listed, if I End Process on it, explorer.exe closes (Taskbar and start button dissapear) and I can then run explorer.exe again to fix it. Don't know if that helps at all.

I have run fullsystem scans with Windows Defender and Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 multiple times and both found nothing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Like I said, my MSN browser seems largely unaffected (which leads me to believe it's spyware or malware) MSN is affected in two main ways : Some shopping websites don't do anything when I hit the "next page" buttons. (Has ActiveX been partially disabled?) Also, when I attempt to download patches or any new freeware, I hit the "Download Now" button, I'm sent to the next page, which usually says "Thanks for downloading [whatever]" but no download has occurred.
IE does not "crash" until I attempt to open my favorites. If I simply click on an article on my homepage, everything continues normally. Interestingly enough, after I get the crash message in IE, I can close the message, and another window pops up stating that there is an error and IE will now close. There is an "OK" button on this second window. Until I click "OK," IE doesn't close and functions more or less normally with the same "quirks that are occurring in MSN.
This all began about three days ago. In the few days that preceded this change in my computer's behavior, 3 things of significance happened. In order, they are:
First, upon start-up (but not EVERY time), I began to receive a message stating that a certain webpage couldn't be opened. Sometimes the name is different, but it's always something inappropriate. I'm sure it's just spyware. I thought I'd eliminated it... Read more

Question: Wake on LAN

Hello all, I'm trying to get wake on lan to work with a new PC I have. It is an HP D220 MT. The motherboard has an onboard broadcom NIC. I've downloaded 3 different programs to send the "Magic packet" to wake the computer but no luck so far.

There is a WOL header on the motherboard for me to plug a cable into but since the NIC is onboard I didn't think I'd have to do this, especially since when the computer is powered off the NIC still shows link lights, which tells me the NIC has power, which is supposedly the only reason you normally need to run that cable from the WOL header to a NIC.

Anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Wake on LAN

Look for a jumper on the board, or a setting in the bios... I searched google for references, but all I can find is that it supports WOL and not how to enable it.

I'm upgrading my current media server to a more powerful one and it's coming with Windows 7. My current one has Vista and I never tried to do this on it, so not even sure if it is possible.

The server basically sits in my office and stores a bunch of media- movies, TV shows, music, that I've ripped from my own personal collection onto my hard drives. It also holds hundreds or thousands of photos, songs I've written, all the other stuff like that. I have shared folders that I can access from my Macs and iTunes running all the time to stream media to Apple TV's.

What I'd like to do, ideally, is have my computer go to sleep after I'm done using it. Maybe after 15 minutes of idle, or even a couple hours- just so it's not running 24/7 like the current one.

I'd like for it to wake up when I click my shortcut in the dock to a shared drive on the server, or by turning on the Apple TV or trying to access a movie, etc.

If it can't be completely sleeping, I'm up for other energy saving methods, but my main goal is to keep the system ready to stream etc, using as little energy as possible when not being used.

Any suggestions appreciated!

(Windows 7 n00b)

Thnx

Answer:Wake by LAN? Etc...

I guess there are programs on the internet that can put it to hibernation/standby/shut down at a set time, or after being idle.

As for waking it up; Some computers start up from standby just by moving the cursor, or disconnecting a USB, basically by anything happening to it.

Sorry i'm not much of a help, but maybe it will give you some ideas ;)!

This is kind of a retro question. I want to turn an old box into a linux server using an old system for a dial-up network. The most retro would be an Abit px5 MB with a 133 Cyrix which still works fine! Second choice is a Gigabyte GA-5AA with an AMD 380. which I still consider a functional back-up system. However since the server must be turned whenever the network is up, so I want to think green and let the server suspend and turn on with a network request. The Abit board in the power management Bios section has a "break event from Suspend: Supportt ACPI RTC alarm function (viaIRQ8). I would love this to mean that If I can get a Lan card to work on IRQ8 (itself a big if) then a lan call would unSuspend the system, fulfilling my need.
The newer GA-5AA board has a Wake on Lan connection and a soft-off jumper. The Power management section of the Bios instruction has a "LAN/Modem Ring on : Enabled Enablee Ring Resume from Soft Off Function" For Soft Off in the Power Button Function "Suspend: Set Power Button Function to Delay 4sec"
Or the default Soft Off.

I must say these were all things I always went right by. For this latter board can I use the settings to get a Lan call to wake up the board And which Soft Off setting would I use?

Question: Wake on LAN

Really this whole system baffles me but I would like to get it working. So I downloaded an WoL program for android set it up and turned on one computer. Aha works great, that was easy so I go to set it up on 4 other computers. Half of them just dont work. I looked through bios and did not see anything, they all had onboard realtec NICs and I checked on WoL+magic packets. So they all seemed like they had similar options. One of the computers with an X58 mobo actually worked once, then 10 minutes later I could not turn it on.

Are there power settings in windows or bios that I need to have right? Any ideas or is WoL just this bad.

Question: Wake up on LAN

Hey all wanted to try to figure this out.

I would like to be able to remotely power on my home computer from the office.

As I understand I would need to set up a VPN.

What sort of hardware would be cheapest to run a VPN for this function?

Would a home router with a custom firmware support this or would I need to jump to a firewall distro like Untangle or pfSense?

Or is there another option that I am not thinking of, I suppose I could just install Logmein or something, but I am not sure of the power on mechanic that program uses.

Answer:Wake up on LAN

If you can login to your firewall from the office, you should be able to send a wake on lan packet to the other computers on your lan. I think I've seen that in the web ui for some stock routers, definitely would be an option with dd-wrt/openwrt/etc (you might have to install a package). Would not necessarily need a VPN either... you could have port forwarding rules in your firewall for when the machine is up.

Hi,
I'm trying to set up wake on lan on my Vista PC. I've had a bit of success but still need some help. I have a magic packet sniffer set up on the PC to check if it is receiving packets. On my networked laptop I am trying to send magic packets. I'm using a wake on lan program from magicpacket.free.fr

So far I've sent packets using 4 different configurations:
1.
IP address (192.168.100.150)
subnet mask 255.255.255.255
port 9
mac address (xx-xx-xx-xx-xx)

2. IP address (192.168.100.150)
subnet mask 0.0.0.0
port 9
mac address

3. external IP address (66.183.50.30)
subnet mask 255.255.255.255
port 9
mac address

4. external IP address (66.183.30.50)
subnet mask 0.0.0.0
port 9
mac address

All four configuration send magic packets to the Vista PC which show up on the packet sniffer (I have port 9 forwarding to 192.168.100.150). However, only configurations 2 and 4 will actually wake up PC if it is sleeping. I don't understand why that would be case. This is important to me because in the end I want to use my linux NAS to send a magic packet to the Vista PC. However, the program that I have on the NAS for this purpose does not allow me to set the subnet mask. I suspect that it defaults to 255.255.255.255, because the NAS is unable to wake up the Vista PC (but when awake the Vista PC receives the packet just like all of the examples above).

thanks

Answer:help with wake on lan

My method for WOL with our Vista boxes at work:

Device Manager > Network Controller > Advanced > WakeOnLAN From PowerOFF > Enabled
Device Manager > Network Controller > Power Management > Allow the computer to turn off this device: unchecked
Device Manager > Network Controller > Power Management > Allow this device to wake the computer: checked

When I want to wake one, I simply ping it.

Granted, with this configuration, the occasional broadcast/icmp traffic will wake one up at random... but as long as that's not a big deal for you, the above should work just fine.

Question: Wake on LAN help

Hi I am having some issues with WOL - I can get it to work when the machine is asleep but not from shutdown. I have trawled some forums and many people advise to enable the option "wake from shutdown" in the advanced section on the LAN adapter. I however do not show this option -

I have Wake on magic packet enabled, wake on pattern match enabled.

I also have all 3 options in the power management tab enabled.

In addition I have enabled the option in the bios to wake from PCI and PCIe devices.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Question: Wake On Lan

How exactly does this work?

Answer:Wake On Lan

Wake-On-LAN is the generic name for the AMD "Magic Packet" technology. The basic idea is that the network adapter has a very-low-power mode to monitor the network for special packet data that will wake up the machine.

I have seen things on Magic Packet and etc. but I am unsure of how to set everything up or what I need. Thanks.

All I am trying to wake on LAN from S5 (complete shutdown state) on some z230 and z440 workstations. I've gone through the BIOS and the network card driver, enabled WOL in the bios, made sure that the power settings on the driver looked good and the device could wake up the computer, and I still cannot seem to wake on LAN. I know that WOL is not blocked on the firewall because I used a WOL utility that ensured that the magic packet was making its way to the destination computer. The magic packet was received on the computers with no issues. Is this maybe a power issue? What do I need to check? Any help would be appreciated, I am really stuck on this one, thanks

You need to send it a "special packet" to wake it, I suggest you do some research on how WOL works.

Here's one article you can read.

Hi! N2Abyss, welcome to 7F

Sounds like it is rebooting when it wakes. Can you look into the BIOS when it starts to see if there is a setting there?

Also check the event viewer logs to see if there might be an error associated when this happens.

I'm having trouble determining if my Dell Dimension 4550's and 4600's support waking from LAN when their shutdown. All these systems have integrated Intel Pro 100/VE Nics. After much reading of Intelís docs I get the impression that most modern business class PC's have this ability, specifically with the PRO 100/VE series (itís a listed feature). My trouble is there is no option for this in the BIOS config screen. I do see these options in the windows device manager but they only seem to enable wakeup when the system is in standby mode. The network lights on the port stay lite when the computer is turned off. I have tried broadcasting the magic packet. Can anyone point out what Iím missing here?

Question: Wake on Lan

I am in school right now. I have a desktop in my dorm and a laptop with me when i got to class. I dont like to keep my computer on all the time. Is there a way for me to wake up my computer on lan without messing with router settings?

thanks

Answer:Wake on Lan

yes, you can. However it depends on several things.

1st being to find out if your school will allow WOL packets through routers. Where I work, they're blocked.

2 - what type of Wake Up packet does your computer accept?

If the schools routers block WOL packets, one way to get around this is to generate a simple program to ping around the subnet your machine is on, find a suitable host and replicate a subscript there to send the wake up packet. This is in essence like a virus replicating itself out, only not for malicious purposes, and you'll want to clean up all remnants of the replicated script.

You'll need the MAC address for the wake up packet as well. When I wrote some software for where I worked to accomplish this, the type of packet was the standard WOL packet which consisted of a single packet containing the MAC Address repeated 6 times. I haven't messed with this in a few years, but I some of the other WOL packet types may be a bit different.

Question: Wake on LAN HELP

Hi

At work we have about 250 pc's with intel 10/100 pro ve on board nic card with the ability to WAKE ON LAN.

My problem is if i do a start ==>shutdown the next time i try to use wake on lan it will work ok

but if i shut down with the power button, and if i then try wake on lan it will not work.

This is a problem because I work in a school with 8000 plus students and they all use the power button.

what is wrong with the WAKE ON LAN.

Answer:Wake on LAN HELP

the only thing I can think of is that the wake-on-lan doesn't work because when you hit the power button it turns off all power to the computer. Therefore no power to use the wake-on-lan. If you properly shut it down, it still is powered (minimally). If the correct procedure is followed to shut it down then wake on lan will work, i don't think there is any way to get around this.
