I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I bought the Acer Black V-17 Nitro edition LAST year on black friday. I can honestly say that this is the worst computer I have ever owned in my life. This is a post to warn all users away from Acer products, especially their laptops. This is a short list which I will elaborate on later because right now I am angry. Please respond Acer. 1. Using system recovery (via windows 10 OS app) crashes the system. I had to buy an "Acer recovery media" USB flashdrive just to get the OS/laptop to work again. 2. Specs are not what you believe, constant bottle necking and stuttering on games with well above the requirements. 3. 16GBs of RAM? More like 4. You are getting LESS for your money. 4. Onboard graphics card messes with nivida resulting in lower performence on an already less-than-stellar GTX 960M 4. Windows 10 systems do not work properly 5.Web browser is constantly freezing, pausing, etc etc. 6. Gaming laptop? One of the most horrible gaming experiences in my entire life. I spent $1000 a year ago for a BAD gaming laptop I suppose. ' 7. Constant overheating issues even with no internet tabs / gaming even being open. 8. Trackpad issues, even after being turned off for a mouse. 9. The entire laptop comes with so much bloatware, even the USB recovery.  This is by far the worst computer I have ever owned. Please stay away from acer laptops if you value your money paid per dollar. I also have all information on hand for Acer te... Read more

The Lenovo G580 is the worst G series laptop. It has the worst part assembly and software compatibility. I have read so many reports that it has Wifi Issues or the touchpad stops working. Me owning one had to go through 2 of them. I bought one but less than a week its screen died in updates and so I got a new one replaced and the DC port on it broke and had to get it fixed from depot center since it was under warranty. I have also heard of other reports with Sound interfaces not working. It is the worst G series with G500 as runner up.

I bought a Lenovo G460 laptop on 4th July 2010. When I switched on the computer for the first time, on starting up of Windows the screen went blank. After 4 days of trying to re-install the OS and drivers (as suggested by the Customer Care person I called up), I gave the laptop to the Lenovo service center on 10th July 2010. After 10 days, on 20th July, they call me saying that my laptop has been fixed. On going there I come to know that they weren't even aware of the problem in the first place! After spending 2 hours trying to explain to them what the problem is (I had to convince them that because display is working fine on an external monitor, the problem cant JUST be driver related), I came back empty handed without my laptop. On calling up the service center after that, they give vague replies saying that "Sir your problem has been diagnosed and we will fix it soon". Specific questions as to what the problem is result in vague answers. It has been 3 weeks since I bought a brand new laptop and till now I haven't been able to run it even once.

If you haven't made the mistake already, please PLEASE do NOT buy a Lenovo laptop. Spend a little more and get an HP / DELL laptop. Atleast you will be able to use it in peace.

I have a 3 year old Toshiba Tecra S2 laptop with XP Pro SP2. Ever since I got it overheating was a huge issue. Most CPU intensive tasks would cause it to shut down after prolonged use. I guess most Toshiba laptops have this problem, which sucks. For the most part I've been careful and have been able to deal with it. Recently, however there have been some strange problems that I think may have stemmed from the heat issues.

I turned it on the other day, and it tells me there are new PCI devices detected. It turns out all of my networking hardware wasn't recognized all of a sudden. I reinstalled the necessary drivers and got them working again, but while I was doing this the computer would randomly freeze. The only way to recover from these freezes was a manual restart. After the freezing started happening, about 2/3 of the time the LCD screen wouldn't turn on when I started the computer. Now, when I finally get it running, it sometimes says there are new PCI devices again. Sometimes its the networking stuff again, and sometimes its the HD controller. Also, the more I try to use it the more frequently the freezing occurs.

I am fearing that something has gone wrong with the motherboard, possibly due to to the CPU's heat over the years. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Is my motherboard on its way out or is there any hope of repairing it?

Much thanks,
Tom

Answer:Fearing the Worst (Laptop Motherboard)

I'm afarid I know very little about that laptop but I think you are almost certainly correct in your assumption that overheating is causing the problem. You really need to check whether the cooling fins around the CPU are clear of gunk as well as the cooling fan.

Here is a link on how to disassemble your particular model:

I bought the ThinkPad X100e January 2011.  It has turned out to be the worst laptop I've ever owned.  It lacks processor power, continually crashes and takes forever to bring up a browser page, word document, power point presentation, etc.  It takes 5 minutes just to boot up and thats on a good day. I bought the computer based on product recommendations which were obviously rigged.  Since my purchase I've upgraded the bios, upgraded the memory, upgraded the OS but nothing has helped. This is absolutely the worst computer I've ever used and I will never purchase another ThinkPad or recommend them to my clients. Roderick Heck

Answer:ThinkPad x100e Worst Laptop I've ever used

Hi heckro, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

Sorry you are having issues with your X100e. You've come to the right place! The X100e is a fine affordable ThinkPad.

Tell us some more about your speed and crash issues. Which Operating System are you using? What software have you installed since you received the machine? What antivirus are you using? Do you recall what changes you made just prior to the problems? Have you tried updating drivers using ThinkVantage System Update? How about starting afresh with a full system recovery?

Hope this helps!

Hey everyone, this is only my second post here in the forum (I believe?) and the last time, you guys were really helpful. But, it seems now that I am in serious trouble. I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop with 2.4GHz, 512 RAM, 40 GB HDD. Bought it about 3-4 years ago new for $+3K so it did cost a bundle, and although it IS outdated by today's standards, it does a great job for what I need it for. I'm a student and as such, anything is good enough

The problem here is that a few months ago, the computer started to just shut off, right in the middle of using it. It would just literally go blank, shut off, no warning. Then, upon restart (if it did restart at all), if you didn't wait a few minutes, it wouldn't come back on. It became such a headache that I bought a cheap, refurbished comp for school and downloading, etc. and hadn't yet tried the laptop, until last night that is. It has a fresh copy of WinXP on it, and nothing else. When I try to turn it on, the fan runs, cycles even as time goes on, but the screen is completely blank, and the computer itself is making no noises. Not even the little icon on the front of the computer to show that it's busy, is lit. Just "dead" and I can't get it to start at all. Tried starting it all day and still nothing. I have to remove the battery too and just use the power adapter because in order to shut it off, I have to unplug the computer entirely. Also, I did try to hook it up to 2 different working monitor's ... Read more

Answer:Toshiba laptop will NOT start! Fearing the worst..... :-(

It doesn't sound to good mate. The problem with laptops is that they are so hard to work on. Repairs usually cost a bundle, and parts can be a real pain to source.

If there's no beeps of any kind, it would indicate that the machine isn't even getting as far as the post. One of your major components could be dead (RAM, CPU, Mobo). This could be a result of a power spike overheating or a drop, amongst other things. The fact that the fan spins up means that there is power, and if it's cycling, then your mobos heat sensors seem to be working. I would think it would probably be either the RAM or the CPU.

Try taking it to a technician. Most shops offer a free diagnosis, and get a quote before ANY work is carried out.

As for spares/repairs, the Satellites can have twitchy monitors, so a spare LCD is quite desirable, as is the batteries, and if the RAM is SoDIMM (I can't remember if it's onboard or whether it takes up an expansion slot), then you could well find a buyer. The HDD's are handy for cheap external caddys as well.

Your best bet is check eBay to see what type of price you could get if it is beyond repair.

Hi everyone,

(This is a pretty long post so I have listed my main problems below!)

A few days ago a neighbour gave me their laptop to have a look at, they were having problems getting it to work, and it was 'really slow'.

This turned out to be an understatment, it took FOUR MINUTES to load up My Computer!
The laptop was (and still is) very very buggy, won't let me click Programs (from the start menu), and in one of the most vital things I needed, "Add/Remove Programs", the list is simply blank!

After about five hours of trawling through files at 1 mile per hour, I identified the main problem.... Kazaa!

Now from past experience I know Kazaa is a P2P file sharing software, but the gamble most people unknowingly take when they download Kazaa is the viruses that come embedded in the software, and the other ones you get when downloading music or videos.

So I set about installing my strongest and most reliable Anti-Virus software, ZoneAlarm. This was eaiser said than done though, as the laptop was very edgy about me copyng and pasting, and I did not have a wireless connection in the house!
I eventually managed to get my memory stick to show up and loaded the installation file from there.

After 15hours of scanning, ZoneAlarm found and deleted 493 VIRUSES!!

I was pretty chuffed, but after I restarted the laptop it was, although slightly better (only 2 minutes to load My Computer now!), still excruciatingly slow and buggy.

So here is my situation:

Hello, I bought a Lenovo G570 and I've been having continious problems with it. Firstly, right out of the box, a few weeks into use, I got random BSODs for not reason and my computer would freeze when attempting to turn it on after putting it to sleep. The hardware is the worst hardware I have ever seen, the side where the screen is attached to the computer simply broke off and the display is all over the place due to the poor quality of the plastic and the piece of metal that bends when opening and closing the screen over a long period of time. Now, after a bit more time, the laptop simply froze completely and I tried everything, I finally managed to format it and tried reinstalling a Windows 7 I had to buy due to not being provided with a Windows 7 CD to reinstall Windows incase I would need to because of situations like these. I reformated and it still freezes so now I think that this is a HDD failure. I am VERY displeased with the poor quality of this product I purchased. If I do not recieve a refund or nothing is done, I plan on making a complaint to BBB unless this problem is solved. I spoke some time ago with a Lenovo "specialist" promising me Iw ould be contacted via e-mail for further assistance and I was never contacted again.

I bought this laptop December last year, so I still have warranty. However I am worried that if I send the laptop to service center, all they will do is reinstall Windows 8 factory image, eventually replace battery. And then when I update to Windows 10, all the problems come up again, and I will be stuck with this **bleep**ty product. I already did 2 clean installs of Windows 10, and I have feeling that with every new install, I have new issues and problems. And I went through all the forums, tried installing/uninstalling all possible drivers, nothing is just helping.  Anyway, my current issues with Y40 are following: I am not able to wake up my Y40 from sleep/hybernation TThis is so frustrating, killing the productivity, I just hate this. Every time I have to turn my laptop off, close all the windows, just shut down everything, because otherwise my laptop won't wake up and will freeze during waking up from hybernation/sleep. I tried the solutions posted here on forums, not working for me.  I am not able to press the touchpad when the laptop startsWhen starting windows, I was used to press touchpad button to open the the password/PIN window and I can enter the system. Now when I do it, computer freezes and restarts, which takes almost 5 minutes. It's happening every single time. Instead of that I have to press ENTER on keyboard to get to the password window. Not a big deal, but if you are used for years using touchpad to enter that wind... Read more

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

Right out of the box this thing is slow as ***. Its slower than a 10 year old laptop. Its like its running on a pentium 4 or something. I tried almost everything and it still super slow. What a complete waste of money. I can't believe they shipped this without testing if it even works. I wanted to try and swap the hdd out for an ssd but guess what? No product key and no disk so I can't easily do that. I am litterally blown away by the crappiness of this laptop. I have never encountered something like this with any laptop ever. Even a *** dell mini 10 runs faster than this piece of ***.

Can you actually log in to Windows? If so, do this:

1. Click Start
2. In the search box, type cmd
3. In the list that appears, right-click on cmd.exe and choose Run as administrator
4. In the command window that opens, type sfc /scannow and hit enter.

Report the output from the command window once it finishes.

It is extremely painful experience with me on account of a Lenovo Laptop. After having good experience with HP, Toshiba and Dell, on 4th July 2010 I purchased my 4th laptop (Lenovo Ideapad series 3000 Y450) from Delhi Lenovo show room (Nehru Place, efuture) for my spouse. Since my friends advised me to keep away from Lenovo, I first negotiated with the show room to ensure me that they will take care of any problems with my laptop and I should not be redirected anywhere. My laptop screen suddenly went blank without any reason in december. Since I have one more laptop and a workstation, I took the laptop to the lenovo outlet on 01-01-2011. I realised how big the mistake I commited by buying a lenovo laptop. The guy sent me to Skylark building (3rd Floor) and again I was sent to another building where I was asked to contact the helpline with some telephone number. God knows why my purchase was not registered. After a lot of deliberation the laptop was taken for repair without giving me any timeline. I was given the following response on 8th day:  - LCD cable & LCD module were found faulty and demanded  - Your note book submitted with customer name : Unique Infoways ( Kamal Kishore )  - Your case id.: 4270142136   - Service Centre details : Comnet Vision , B1 Aggarwal Bhawan, Nehru Place, New Delhi ph. 011-26210431, 9899696144  Even if I am getting my laptop back immediately and wit... I know it has been a while for this journey of realization of what a lemon I purchased. But, after a couple of years I have finally reached that realization.
First, always had issues from my wireless from day one, Would disconnect randomly. And two weeks after my warranty expired it completely died. Good job Dell!  I bet you all planned that perfectly. I have been using USB wireless since then.
Next, after installing Windows 10 I came to the realization that after trying to get Cortana to work neither my microphone or camera were recognize as exiting.   Probably, never worked or went bad the same time as the wireless.  I, guess not knowing is on me.  I never tried using the camera or microphone prior to that because I had no reason to and now I have no ability to do so even if I wanted to.
Next, my keyboard keys started falling apart.  If I was a gamer I would assume they keyboard would take more damage from all that punching.  But, I am not a gamer on my laptop (not be any measurable number)  and see no reason for keys to be deteriorating.  I find it strange that the whole Q,W, A, Z and space bar and others are falling off or becoming less tactile and responsive now at the same time.
Finally, last week I came back from a trip.  I had left my laptop at home and found that while I was gone the laptop casing on the front right and left both split open (separated out quite visible from the top half).  Several front screws attachi... Read more

Question: Worst ISP

Post your reason for nominating the worst ISP

I don't know why I have such a huge chip on my should about AOL but anytime I try and help an AOL user - I just become extremely frustrated and disgusted.

I know not everyone knows a lot about PC's and I am far from knowing anything in the IT field but AOL users seem to have this nieveness (sp) about them

AOL (ISP) just brain washes their customers and basically handicaps them from doing basic functions that common users should be able to perform

(i.e Clearing Cache, Clearing Cookies, Typing in the URL field, Know where the URL box is, using Outlook, etc etc etc)

AOL to me is just a crap service and it frustrates me that so many people are just signing up for this crap just because they sent you some junk mail CD.

I have seen numerous polls that point AOL as the worst ISP to date yet so many people still use them. People get mad when I tell them I will not email an AOL account. They just don't get it.

Answer:Worst ISP

i am using earthlink right now and am not to thrilled.

First, My modem got toasted and it took them over two months and 4 phone calls for them to send me a new one.

second think is kinda strange, i have had their dsl for awhile and now they tell me it is no longer avalible in my area lol

anyway, just hasn't been a great experience IMO

Its really quit messy. I couldnt hardly boot up the machine, but I have it cleaned up as much as i can now. It took forever to be able even load up the microsoft update page. let alone get the computer to update spybot s and d. So with that I have already done considerable work and I can post some of the earlier logs if needed. But here are the most current logs.
-Currently I keep getting an adaware watch warning that it is blocking "crt5.tmp (3680) from loading" it is triggering as a win32 downloaderinjector.

-None of the spyware programs seem to adequately clear the memory of these problems I been having with each reboot the keep reloading. But at least I could finally update adaware, windows xp, spybot s and d, mabm, and superantispyware. previously they would be blocked or hijacked if in a browser.

-most current logs follow

Answer:Help! Worst I've seen

Question: Best of the worst?

I'm wondering you guys, if you had to pick one of the store-bought pc computers, what would you all pick and why?

I know custom computers are better, but for average computer users who only upgrade things like RAM and Video Cards...which are the best out of a bad lot?

Excluding Dell please. I mean ones you can walk into a Best Buy, and take home.

Answer:Best of the worst?

HP-decent
Compaq-probably the best deal
Sony- OVERPRICED (I have one...decent machine, too much useless software comes pre-loaded)
IBM- good quality, bad price

Question: Worst PC ever...

Ok so, I formatted and installed Windows XP Home SP2 3 days ago. Last night I finished installing all my programs, all my drivers, apps, the whole sha-bang.

Today, I had to shut down to fix one of my cathodes. I started back up and the Windows loading screen came up like normal. Then, instead of going to the welcome screen, it went black. And it sits there forever. I tried at least 8 times with the same result.

So I put in Knoppix Live to save all my stuff so I can reformat again. Well Knoppix goes to the loading screen and sits on "Configuring devices" forever and does not start. Great... Tried that 3 times.

Now I put in my XP Home CD that I just got 3 days ago. Brand spankin new.

I put the disk in, it says "setup is loading files" and then says "Setup is starting Windows" and sits there.. forever... just like the rest...

So now, I'm out of options. I don't know what the fuck to do. My next plan of attack is eraseing the disk with the Ultimate Boot CD and [email protected] killdisk...

Unless anyone has any other suggestions?

At this point, I don't know if I need PC help or psychiactric help...

Answer:Worst PC ever...

When you fixed your cathode you might have bumped a card, I'd reseat any pci/agp/pcie cards and memory and see if it boots.

Question: Worst. Day. Ever.

I've had a nasty problem with my computer the whole day, and I NEED HELP DESPERATLY! I think it's the work of a virus, too!!

Problem #1: Boot sectors on my PC couldn't be found, therefore the OS(XP Home SP1) was not able to load up. I thought, "Ok, I'll check the forum." Got helpeful reply, but didn't seem to work because I didn't even know there was such thing as an administrator password, and I couldn't find out what my manufacturer set it to! So the brilliantly helpful page that would have worked perfectly didn't, because PowerSpec sucks royal @$$ and sets admin passwords for their customers.

Problem #2: I go into the BIOS to check why the OS couldn't be located, find that the computer can't seem to locate my one-and-only HD. "Well, this shouldn't be too difficult", so I go in and then set the drive to AUTO, thinking that it would straighten itself out.

Problem #3: It didn't straighten itself out. It says "No hard disk found."
I say "#@$%@#$%!!!?!"

Please help me find my HD!

which anti virus/computer protection do you think is the best
which do you think is the worst
i think kaspesky is the best and AVG is the worst

Answer:Which Is The Best And Worst

Well each program has their own way, it depends on what you like.
I think AVG is good except the false positives. Macaffe is also good. I don't think there's a good or bad program.
There all good, but I prefer others because of how they work and their protection method.

Question: Worst I have seen

This is my first post. I have spyware that is not allowing me to update the spyware protection I have or get to sites that might have spyware removal tools. I can only get into the computer by using safemode with networking. Superantispyware can't even be downloaded from a cd I have with a bunch of spyware tools. Of course it also blocks system restore as well.

Thanks for any help you can give

I would have to agree Iobit Malware Fighteris a winner in being the worst. Especially when it first came out, not sure what it is like these days. I never will have here again.

Hello all, trying to disinfect my girlfriend's computer, I've installed Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Kaspersky Auto Virus. With msconfig and the task manager I see a bunch of processes that I have no idea what they are, and some of them have no result on google, which is making this all that much harder to fix. I'm pretty sure there are multiple trojans and even if I delete them (assuming I can see them,) they come back. If I uncheck things in the startup menu, they recheck. Every time I open up Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, the site immediately changes to a random advertisement page. Also, when the internet is connected, the laptop recieves random popups at random times to more advertisement pages. Certain trojans that are detected will delete, but come right back, and even if the program says it will delete on startup, it fails, and it's still there with another virus check. I cannot do online virus checks due to IE and Mozilla not working.

I already found surfsidekick and fixed it using this site, I dont know what the rest of the trojans even are. I believe surfsidekick is all gone, I could be wrong. Some of the processes that I have seen are:

explorer.exe (Not bad)
rundll32.exe (Not sure if this is bad)
afhcp.exe (This appears 3 times at once)
jvpxpt.exe (Sometimes appears 2 times at once)
bdcyv.exe

pdpxgcr.dll was found by Kaspersky Auto Virus, as was some of the above processes.

If anybody can help with this I will be eternally grateful.

Answer:Trying To Fix The Worst Pc Ever, Please Help

Hello,Please don't start with fixing items yourself, because this is confusing and I see you already fixed some entries.... so the log won't show it anymore what we have to manually delete.I also see that you have Kaspersky and Norton installed. This is a very bad combination and can actually crash your system. So I recommend you get rid of Norton or Kaspersky. It is important you don't miss a step and perform everything in the right order!!Go to your controlpanel > software > add/remove programs and look if NewDotNet, New.Net, New.Net Applications or New.Net Domains is present and choose to uninstall. If not present, Download and use this uninstaller.* Please make sure your anti-virus and anti-spy ware programs don't hinder the complete removal of the new.net software. In case they interfere, temporary disable them.Reboot afterwards! Important!!!* Download Brute Force Uninstaller.Unzip it to a folder of it?s own (c:\BFU).Read here how to unzip/extract properly:http://metallica.geekstogo.com/xpcompressedexplanation.htmlStart the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exeNext to the 'scriptfile to execute'-window you'll see a little icon as shown in next picture: When you click that icon, a little window will open that says: 'Please enter the full URL to the sript you want to execute'In the field, copy and paste next URL:http://metallica.geekstogo.com/alcanshorty.bfuClick Ok. These files are gone and do not run.

Answer:Worst infection I have seen. Not sure what it is.

Fixed recovery console.Hello X-Files,We ask that once you have posted your log and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your thread or make further replies until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. The reason we ask this or do not respond to your requests is because that would remove you from the active queue that Techs and Staff have access to. The malware staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response, there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. That is why I have made an edit to your last post, instead of a reply. Please do not multiple post here, as that only pushes you further down the queue and causes confusion to the staff. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible.Thank you for understanding.Regards,The weatherman (Moderator)

Hey all.

My computer has recently just got a hell of a lot of malware and to even post this here i've had to go on a different computer!

Internet Explorer started getting slow, then popups started appearing advertising gambling/search engines/spyware programs.

I tried to get rid of it using AVG and spybot; it didn't work.

Then it got worse! Pages i'd click on from a google search would be redirected to a .ru website, Internet Explorer got so slow I can't use it and when I could this damn malware would randomly close the website I would be browsing.

Please help!

Answer:Worst malware I have ever had! Help!

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given futher down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.
TDSSserv Non-Plug & Play Driver Disable

If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flas... Read more

Question: Worst Virus Ever?

My daughter brought me her computer that has the worst virus I have ever seen. (She is running a farly new Compaq machine with Windows XP Media Center). This appears to be a new version of Privacy Center. On boot, computer goes through Windows startup and asks for login/password. From there, starts to load, then screen goes black and a screen VERY similar to Privacy Center comes up asking for money. (The only difference is that in the upper left of the 'page' it reads Control Center - but their 'About' link refers to it as Privacy Center) The computer will not go past this page. <ctrl><alt><esc>, <alt><F4>, <ctrl><Alt><delete> all have been rendered inoperational. I have read other articles here and in other places with instructions as to how to remove it - all suggest Safe Mode. Well, here's where this virus gets nasty! When going into Safe Mode, the system reboots after mup is loaded therefore Safe Mode is Not an option. Tried a bootable F-Secure CD - it found a number of harmful files and renamed them but the machine still does the same nonsense .

Any suggestions aside from System Restore? (and I'm not sure that will fix the problem either!)

Ok, most of you know i have a new pc. Yes thats great. Well its supposed to. Here the whole story:

October 22 2004, at 10 pm, i purchase the following from moonarch computer:
AMD 3500 939 130 nm
abit av8 3rd eye
74 gb raptor
160 gb sata seagate
round cables
eVGA 6800GT
thermaltake 480 watt butterfly

Ok, first then send me an email, saying that my shipping address isnt same as billing, and i must add it to credit card. I do so, and reply to their email, they said ok, good. It then takes then 1 week and a half to ship the pc, BUT BOTH HDs are back ordered. Now please tell me what i am supposed to do without my hard drives?

Ok, well the pc finally gets in houston, and the same day, my hds are shipped. i get all the stuff, and build my pc with no problems.

Now, i wont get into details how i found out, but one of my rams was faulty, so i RMA. ok, we send the ram back. Takes then an other week to ship my new ram. I FINALLY get my ram today. And guess what? The heat spreader is bent in half (xms 3200XLPT) i mean its completely bent, i dont even see how it happened, or how they fit it in the plastic box...

So i am gona REFUND this POS from POS monarch, and get some 3200 xlpro from newegg

That was my worst experience there... I am just pissed off

Answer:Worst Pc Experience Ever!!!

yup, i thought they were good.

My question now. since im getting refund, wat ram to get now? HAS to be under 300

i was thinking the 3200xlPro for 275 (2x512) 2-2-2-5 latenties

Or any other suggestions?

Wow. This is terrible. The most malicous virus I've ever seen... I downloaded a file, not so suspiceus. Since it was .exe file, and to be sure - I scanned it with my AV (KIS 7.0 - Kaspersky Internet Security) The file came out clean. I clicked on it, and for a moment - nothing happend. THEN - the storm begin... Kaspersky pops up with a message about this file changing somthing (dont remmeber exactly what). I immedietly clicked on 'Terminate'. Then I got another pop-up from KIS, about that I should roll-back to the state it was b4 the file was exuctable. Of course, I choosed 'Roll-back' Then, all of a sudden - my PC began to shot itself down. It closed all the programs, and seems to do a complete shot-down. I reseted it just to find out: When I log-on to Win - KIS won't load up as it use to do. Just missing from the background. wont work anz more. When I tried to operate it manually by clicking on the avp.exe file - ive got a message - this file is not legal in win32 - or something like that... When I tried to search the internet for HiJackThis - Just writing this word in the explorer - cause the explorer to crash, no matter if it was IE, FF, or even Maxthon. When I tried to load the PC in SAFE MODE - it crashed and started over again. Non-Safe mode works just fine. When I Alt-Ctrl-Del - I found somtimes wired filenames appearing for seconds, like 2423235.exe Anyway - I manage to load the PC through old-german-rescuse-disc I found in my home, called Windows-XP-Virus-Editon. I'm considering buillding a new computer for my family. I know how to put a computer together, but i don't know the best things for my computer. For example.. i was looking at a Pentium 4 3.0 GHz Processor and i also saw a Pentium 4 3.8 GHz Processor. My guess is that the 3.8 GHz is better, but i don't know why it's better. What will .8 extra GHz do for my computer? I know whats better... but i dont know why.

Another example... I'm looking at a Pentium 4 3.2 GHz Processor and i'm also looking at an Athlon AMD 64 2.6 GHz Processor. The AMD is more expensive but is it better? This is all extremely confusing to me. Now i don't even know what's better.

I don't expect anyone here to tell me everything i need to know about how to distinguish whats better and why one thing is better than another... but do any of you know where i can learn about this? Possibly a website or maybe a book. Thanks for reading.

I'm an old time D&D player. (From back when the original three book box set came out in the late '70s.) I've played a number of D&D style RPGs over the years that I've had a 'puter, and am interested in what games others play/have played. What RPGs do you play, and which wouldn't you touch with a ten foot cyber-pole?

Question: Worst Problem Ever

Hi! I am in terribe, terrible pain, and am shaking with

My second hard drive has been COMPLETELY WIPED!!!

I have lost 25gigs worth of data. Is there anyway to restore it? when i click on the drive in explorer, it says,

"the file or directory is corrupted or unreadable".

system restore says that

"changes made to drive(s) D: after this point cannot be reversedbecause the drive was either excluded from System Restore monitoring, or was turned off, or removed."

In computer management, it says the file system is RAW. Does this mean that is has somehow formatted itself?!!!

I recently changed the hard drives to sleep after two hours. could that have been the cause?

I tried to use chkdsk, but it doesn't even start.

PLEASE HELP!!!

MANY HOURS OF DOWNLOADS HAVE BEEN LOST

Also, one friend heard that if i put it into the freezer, the files could be restored.

IS THIS TRUE?

PLZ HELP, I WILL BE IN DEBT TO ANYONE WHO CAN FIX THIS GIGANTIC PROBLEM.

THANKS!

I have XP PRO

okay so heres what its doing to my pc:
- every now and then (quite often) random music will start playing. when i look in the proccesses running at the time, ending "iexplorer.exe" (2 things running with this image name) it stops. this will be running even when no internet browser is, but when i am using one, usualy firefox, when i end the iexplorer.exe, it will come up with a little message saying it has recovered a tab. this is very anoying.

- it has disabled all my antivirus software, including AVG, the profesional verion i paid ALOT of money for,and free versions of avast and mcaffee. so i am unable to run ANY virus scan.

- any new programme i try to download will come up with a message saying i do not have the appropriate privalages to run the programme, so i am unable to use the "hijack this" and get a log. this is with programmes that i have clicked "run" on the installation, instead of save.

- when i save the file and try to install from that, it will say that -e.g.- "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\HJTsetup.exe is not a valid Win32 application." and will not open.

- when running firefox no search engines work; it took me a while to find this site...
also when running internet explorer, search engines do work to find the relevent sites, but clicking on anyone of them redirects me to a random advetisment.

- windows live messinger closes down almost the second i log in

Question: worst virus ever

Its called the Windows XP service pack 2. And its compliments of microsoft.
I downloaded it here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...be-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a&DisplayLang=en

I don't know what the problem is. I downloaded it, rebooted, and I ended up with a computer that only operated in 4bit color. I had other viruses/trojans to contend with so I said screw it and reinstalled windows XP.

After I reinstalled, I downloaded the service pack. Once again it sent my comp back to the stone age. I just removed it and my comp works fine again. Does this service pack have any other benefits - aside from completely destroying your computer?

I have a feeling this is a vundo virus or a variant of it, as some of the symptoms are similar to a vundo i previously got rid of on an old computer.

I cannot even boot my computer in safe mode, i get a blue screen of death immediately after windows boots that says DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

I tried using a vista repair disk to run system restore but that did not work. I managed to get a hijackthis logfile from the computer in safe mode before it crashed once, but now i cant even boot it long enough to do anything. I would just wipe the HD and do a fresh install but I need many files that are on my HD. any ideas what i can do??

I'm pretty sure I have some type of malware on my computer. I think I have a rootkit and God only knows what else. I've been fighting with this since Monday night.

I've tried scanning with McAfee and it didn't find anything. Sometimes McAfee now freezes. It doesn't normally do that. I also scanned with Malware Bytes Anti-Malware and found nothing. I scanned with the free version of Avira and found a few things, which were deleted. Then I scanned with the trial version of BitDefender. It found one thing and deleted it.

I'm pretty sure I'm still infected. My browsers open a lot, and I mean a lot, slower than they did before Monday. Sometimes they wont open at all. McAfee still freezes. It takes longer to open folders too, and sometimes the icons in the folder don't work. For example, the thumbnails in My Videos don't appear. This isn't normal for my computer. The vast majority of space on my computer is free, so I don't have too many documents. I just checked yesterday.

So I have every reason to suspect a rootkit is causing my troubles. I'm not an expert, so don't take my word for it. It might not be a rootkit. It might be some other awful pain in the butt.

My operating system is Windows XP, and I have a HP Pavilion Slimline s7320n PC.

I ran RootkitRevealer from Sysinternals. Here is what it found. I posted screenshots of what it found because I can't figure out how to copy and paste from RootkitRev... Read more

Anyone notice how many issues the new build of Firefox is having?

Alot of places don't load correctly...it won't install extensions, Flash is having huge issues, I'm tempted to get rid of and reverting back to 1.07 or 1.05. Seems more of a pest than a savior at this point.

Wonder what went wrong.

Answer:Firefox 1.5.01 The worst?

Installed it yesterday, no broken extension or Flash problems here, and the memory leaks seem to have vanished. Bear in mind, if you go back to the older versions, you get the vulnerabilities found with them, as instead of patches you have to get new versions to fix them. 1.5.0.1 fixed a ton of holes recently found in FF, btw.

About a month ago probably I downloaded some programs which seemed completely harmless, but one of them problably contained a virus , that probably is a rootkit , THE WORST TROJAN I'VE EVER SEEN!
It uninstalled my antivirus , disabled all the firewalls and took control of my PC.
Every time that I turn on my pc a window appears and says:" do you want to run this software? C:\ProgramData\Microsoft.com "
and sometimes it  says also :" do you want to run this software? C:\Windows\System32\wservice.exe " and this probably is the process of the virus , wservice.exe..  Here there are some screen of this (I'm italian so these are in Italian) http://imageshack.com/a/img41/6794/jh4d.png
And whenever I try to "kill" that process it says "Acces denied" (as you can see here http://imageshack.com/a/img809/933/8unr.png )
And  when I try to install any kind of antivirus it says "File not found and the file path" like in this screenshot
I tried all: MalwareBytes , Regcleanpro , HitmanPro that doesn't work , and ComboFix that says this error and can't run : "Warning!! Do not run ComboFix in Compatibility Mode . Doing so may damage the machine." but I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate so it isn't in Compatibility Mode!!
I really don't know what to do anymore!
I searched on google and the only one that had a problem similar is this http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/525263/trojan-that-no-one-has-seen-before/  .

Question: Worst Malware Ever

I've had a virus or some spyware forcefully installed on my computer a couple times before but I've always been able to get rid of it with some sort of virus or spyware removval software.

But not this time, everytime I try to run Spybot etc. my computer turns off before it can get rid of the crap. At first I thought it was happening randomly but now it's obvious the virus or whatever just refuses to leave.

Is there anyone else who has had this problem and can help me? I don't know enough about computers to do much more. So please help!

When you say "turns off" do you mean the computer restarts or physically powers off?

The first symptom was being unable to display pictures in IE7. The "display images" checkbox was unchecked so figured that would do it. Could then refresh and see pictures. Could even exit IE and get back in and see pictures. But upon reboot it didn't stay checked. Upgraded to IE8. Same problem. Made sure I had all Windows updates installed. Ran Malwarebytes several times. The software would reboot my computer randomly, rendering it useless, and things began getting even crazy.

All along the CPU was/is buzzing at 100%. The hourglass is constant. Task manager shows all this crazy randomly named files. Media center won't work. Updated video driver. Didn't help. Firefox wouldn't work until a while later. Shows images but unless in safe mode, pops up ads even with popup blocker installed. At some point the DEP files (Userinit, Windows logon, Task Manager) were being thwarted, forcing reboots.

Spybot found lots of stuff but didn't delete it. Booted in safe mode. Malwarebytes hung every time. Spybot took hours, gave a nice list, but upon reboot I could see in task manager all these files respawning. Downloaded the latest version of HiJackthis (2.02). Tried to create a log. Got this error each time:

Whats the worst computer you ever "fixed"

So guy at my work says, whenever he opens firefox or IE it closes imediatly and windows gives me an error. So I take his computer and this is what I found.

801 Bad registry entries deleted with Regseeker
16 Viruses/Trojans Deleted with AVG
1 Virus Deleted with Avast
22 Pieces of spyware\adaware deleted with Adaware SE personnal
272 pieces of spyware\adaware deleted with spybot
22 log entries deleted with Hijackthis
2 entries deleted with CDshredder

he was running no firewall and no AV on comcast cable.

and it still doesn't work, firefox and IE still won't open, still recieves errors.

and to top it all off i couldn't update windows cause his copy was illegal and disk clean up and disk defragmenter never finshed cause it was so slow...

oh ya i still got paid though.

Answer:ugh i have the worst luck

This is what happens when you use pirated software.

I suggest your take the hdd out of your computer, and hook it up as a slave drive on another system.

Back up all your important data, then format the drive.

Put it back into your machine as master, and buy a legit copy of Windows, and reinstall.

Well I downloaded a bad torrent and got the windows update virus.

It kept popping up asking for me to run it, I kept hitting no and then I accidently hit yes in frustration.

I manually deleted the .exe in my temp folder and then I ran every virus software I could think of. However none of my software will update now, i'm assuming it's from the virus as it gives me some bogus error message and my internet works fine. . I did a spybot and ad-aware search and removed a few files I know weren't there before this incident. However the problem still persists and now all my scans turn up empty.

Any suggestions as to how I can purge my system?

MalwareBytes normally does the trick on this sort of thing so download, install and then run that and you'll most likely get rid of it.

I incorrectly shut down my computer after it was infected bc i believed that it had frozen on me. when i tried to reboot in safe mode it wouldn't allow me to do so. i had to use my window's recovery cd's and ran 'chkdsk /r' just so that i could get the computer to run in safe mode. In safe mode i was able to run MBAM, SAS and ATF. MBAM and SAS found a ton of problems and was able to clear them out. In normal mode i am unable to open any of those programs. i receive the following message from "Security Suite" (which i believe is the major virus still on my computer) Message reads as follows...

"Windows Security Alert: application cannot be executed. the file mbam.exe is infected. do you want to activate your antivirus software now?"

Then another one follows that up with....

"Windows reports that computer is infected. Antivirus software helps to protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. Click here for the scan your computer. Your system might be at risk now." (that's word for word btw, not my typos)

My AVG is also acting screwy and reports an infection of 'Trojan horse generic18.BMHL' about 30+ times!

Almost any icon that i click on my desktop will report that it cannot be executed. It also took about 15-20 minutes for the computer to boot up and just bring me to the desktop.

I'm using another co... Read more

Question: Worst computers

Hello all, I just wanted to let everyone know as a consumer dell desktop's aren't worth the price being asked. Upon viewing their catalog, I came across what I thought was a nice desktop and the price seemed fair enough so I thought. From the moment the computer arrived it broke down twice and they sent a service guy to replace the motherboard. Upon making the necessary repairs, my speakers stop working. Upon contacting dell, I was told my warranty expired and therefore had two options. Option 1 upgrade a system which was less then a year old or pay them $400 to upgrade my warrenty. Since then, I've spoken to other consumers who told me they were forced to take dell to court because their systems were junk. My business partner doubted my concerns till he purchased a $3000 desktop from dell and spent an additional $400 to upgrade a warrenty which expired in six months soon found out he got ripped off. His new pc now sits in a repair shop and he just found out that all the compenets he requested dell failed to add any of them. So buyers beware when it comes to Dell.

Answer:Worst computers

As as tech community, most [informed] members already knew that. Same goes for all brands, that's why there are so many system builder threads o.o.
EDIT: What I meant was that Dell computers are not very good, not that they are unreliable, or have poor warranty.

Hello guys, and thanks for any help I might receive. I had posted in the Windows XP forum on my original issue here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/f10/...xp-453138.html which was regarding a BSOD.

That problem was resolved by repairing windows but I am now unable to use most of the programs on my PC. Firefox will shut down and go into a "Firefox is already running" error. Internet explorer will also close down and give an error as well. Other programs such as Windows Media Player will unexpectedly shut down and give errors also. Wallpaper will disappear, etc. Just a few examples. Your going to see a few malware programs in the DDS, I did try using them before finding this forum, but they have all failed so far.

I did my best to follow instructions on what to do before posting, but I am unable to uninstall uTorrent and Daemon Tools, not even in safe mode. I have Windows XP Professional edition and the anti virus I was using was AVG 8 free.

Here is the DDS.txt:

A year and a half ago now, my backwoods nowhere town got DSL. And aside from the price, everything was good. Dished out the $59.99 a month for a 512/128 connection, and while the price was beyond ridiculous, it was a small price to pay to finally enjoy online gaming, incredible surfing speeds, and the occasionally foray into some not so legal p2p applications.

I got heavily into my first online game ever, Unreal Tournament 2004, specifically a mod called Carball, a mod I still play to this day. Unfortunately I can no longer play this mod, or any other game I own online whenever I feel like, because my connection's has become progressively worse since I got it.

It started slow, the pings gradually got higher and I'd get lag spikes more often, but it was still fine, but it's just went downhill from there. I started to notice that the connection would get worse at certain times of the day, until it got to the point that games were unplayable between the hours of 3pm and 11pm. Pings would widly fluctuate, and would routinely reach upwards of 300. Literally one second my ping would be 80, the next it would be 350. I called tech support and explained the situation, and they said they hadn't had any complaints and didn't know what could be done.

Of course at that point I assumed it was my hardware, but after trying some things and getting no change, I started to think about it. If it was my hardware, why would be connection be rock solid during cert... Read more

Answer:The Worst Connection Ever

It sounds like they are oversubscribed for the amount of bandwidth they have. It's true that DSL doesn't 'share' like cable, but it all still has to share the main pipes.

If they are a little shit dick company, you're probably screwed. My guess is that they are aware of it, and don't want to upgrade to more bandwidth, as it's super expensive for them to do in the middle of nowhere, and whatever line(s) they currently have is(are) fully tapped out. You can try and ask them what their main pipes to the Internet are, but I doubt they will tell you. You can also ask what percent usage they have on those same pipes. Usually anything above ~70% for substained periods is considered bad for any ISP worth a damn.

Trying to fix my parents computer, running on windows XP. They obviously had some viruses and I ran some scans and got rif of some with different programs I'd already installed and tried to clean it out a little a couple days ago- it only got worse- it's now pratically unusable. Heres a list of the issues.

Desktop is blank with no icons, start menu comes up empty. I had to click an ad just to get into internet explorer here.
Getting a tons of errors at the same time reading "Failed to save all the components to //system 32..., the file is corrupted or unreadable." and another error that says the "Files indexation process has failed" and one that says "RAM memory is incredably unstable"
I can not exit out of a fake virus protection program called "system fix", and task manager will not open.
Occasionally a video or audio ad will pop up, ussually a virus protection ad.
I seem to be unable to right-click...
I can not seem to download any form of software
Most of the time when I search or click a link to something that will help, it sends me to an AOL website, or more spam.

Anything I can do to save this old piece of junk for them at this point?

Answer:Worst virus I've ever seen

Bump and update.

I've found logging in as a different user allows me one or two more abilities- it still shows a couple programs, and I can manage my way on to the internet, but every time I try to download some kind of anti-virus program, it ends in an error, and most times I try to go to an anti-virus site, it redirects me to spam. It still makes it look as if all the files are gone, even though they seem as if there still there- for example, I get get into itunes randomly and have all the songs, but when going into desktop, it doesn't show anything in any of main files at all.

Question: I fear the worst

I have a terrible feeling that my computer is infected with a virus. THis is due to the fact that Norton antivirus is now innactive, by innactive i mean that auto-protect is disabled and if it is turned on it just exits, the same with the virus scanner. I decided to head to Symantecs website and i downloaded the tools for two viruses that matched the description of my virus, thes were a W32.Klez and the bugbear wirus. THe tools could not find these viruses on my computer, but i am still having the same problems with Norton, any help would be useful.

Hello, you guys are my last hope.

Notice I havent posted any logs or added the necessary attachments.

a)DDS.com would not download.
b)Gmer.com I could download and extract, but the virus has blocked it from running.

Update: Tried a script that disables/enables regedit. For the time being it seemed to have worked.
Run>Regedit worked.
DDS.com ran, ill update with the logs in a bit.
Gmer.com ran, ill update with the logs in a bit.

As you might help me get stuff working I will update the thread with needed information.

How it started/ first thing noticed:
1) Noticed AVG Free would not update anymore

Symptoms as of now:
1) AVG wont update
2) AVG after running for some time (~10min) reports a error about a crash. (also other virus programs like Kaspersky, Search & Destroy and a few others I tried do the same)
3) Regedit wont run ( displays a black screen for a second and goes back)
4) Firefox constantly crashes (2 times writing this topic)
5) After some time running I lose the ability to visit webpages, either "connection reset" or just the regular "page cannot display".
6) Safemode wont work.
7) Like I pointed out before, Gmer.com wont run. Same symptoms as running Regedit, flashes black screen and goes back to desktop.

Thanks for any kind of help, worst virus I have had and I thought I was playi... Read more
