Speakers not working...has to do with windows actual speakers are fine

Question: Speakers not working...has to do with windows actual speakers are fine

A week ago a bubble popped up on my desktop offering to clear space because i was running out of memory on my computer. I clicked it (shouldn't have) and it "cleared space" but now my computer won't play any sound. i have Dell speakers and they work fine because i can plug them into my ipod and play that. I already did the Control Panel-Sounds and Audio Devices-Audio tab but once I get to the audio tab this website tells me to click "Advanced" under "sound playback". However, I don't even have the option of clicking that button. it won't let me click it. Also, there is no Volume control icon on the bottom right corner of my screen (next to the clock). like there should be. I really need help

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Once I plug my headphones in or my hearing aids bluetooth device in, it all goes south. The internal speakers continue to work as does the bluetooth, but nothing is coming out of the headphones. Since I was once in IT, this problem is unique to the jack itself. Either the jack lifted up or was pushed back and never properly tested. The hook, I just received this computer 3 weeks ago to replace a faulty HDMI out port. I was told that there would be an open ticket so if I had any problems with this computer it would be attended to. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

I'm using Windows 10 & about a month ago my AE speakers stopped working but only with my PC, I checked them on my son's PC and they were fine so it was not a problem with the speakers. This happened just after a Windows 10 update. A friend helped me fix this by doing a system restore and that was all good. Now it's happened again, the speaker icon on the taskbar just says 'No Audio Output Device is installed' I ran the troubleshooter and it says 'check audio device' which I've done and the speakers are fine. Then it says 'Hardware changes might not have been detected' Do I have to do another system restore? Have any of you guys had a problem with audio that could be to do with Windows 10?

Answer:Audio not working but speakers are fine

Go into Control Panel/Sound and select Playback Devices. Ensure that the correct device has been selected as the default, probably "speakers"

My Dell inspiron 3542 laptop speakers are not working, but 3.5 mm jack is working fine.
Please help me out.

Answer:My Dell inspiron 3542 laptop speakers are not working, but 3.5 mm jack is working fine.

Hello. The problem could be either in the hardware or the software, so you need to test each. Perform the tests below -- it doesn't matter which one you do first.

To test the speakers, perform the Quick Audio Check in the ePSA test. If the speakers fail the test then they have failed or become disconnected. (Click the link for instructions on how to run the test.)

To test the software, switch between the Realtek audio driver and the Windows native driver. [This test assumes that your laptop has the Realtek audio driver. If you get to step 2 and do not see "Realtek High Definition Audio" then go to the Dell support page for your model and download the Realtek driver that Dell provides for the version of Windows that the laptop is running.]
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted,... Read more

im running an 8 month old toshiba with vista and realtek audio with updated drivers. surround sound speakers bought in iraq were used on audio output for about a week... then the speakers started acting funny, like with one speaker and one headphone working when headphones were plugged in. then the internal speakers squealed loudly whenever the computer was powered. had to take the speakers out just to get them to stop, and now audio output does not work at all. computer tests both devices as working properly, and drivers are updated.

I have an Hp625 running Windows 7 Basic 32 bit - I can play music through my laptops built in speakers without any problems, but when I plug headphones (or external computer speakers) into the headphone jack no sound comes through them (and simultaneously the laptop speakers go mute). My computer is dual boot with ubuntu, and this problem appeared when I upgraded my Ubuntu version - still, I know that the jack works as it is working fine in Ubuntu, and Im sure the problem is fixable within windows!

I have tried for HOURS to fix this problem, and attempted everything obvious, plus read many threads on similar topics. Please help. My computer is using the IDT audio control panel, and according to windows everything us up to date and fine. BUT ITS NOT PLEASE HELP.

Answer:My laptop speakers are working fine, but the headphone jack is not!

Are you experiencing the problem in windows or in ubuntu? Have you installed the sound driver for ubuntu when you upgraded your version of ubuntu. Have you updated the sound driver for windows?

I've had this problem for a few weeks now and haven't been able to solve it. When I play audio from any source, the sound is distorted and fuzzy. Sometimes when I restart the laptop then the audio plays as normal for a while, until I pause a video or load a new page and then the problem starts again. However, even when this happens, the audio is still perfectly fine if I play it through headphones.I have seen that there have been a few audio problems with notebooks and I've followed the recommended steps and installed the updated audio drivers but nothing has worked so far.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm really baffled here as to what's going on with my laptop audio. It was working just a few days ago from what I remember and now tonight when I was playing a game in Steam the audio just wasn't working. Checked audio settings in the game, all was good. Turned the game off and started testing using YouTube, still nothing. The volume is definitely up and I found that headphones work fine. When I open the 'Playback devices' dialogue from right clicking the speaker in the task bar it shows the green equalizer bar moving up and down if something is playing, but there's no audio. I've checked for any conflicting devices in here and ensured everything was enabled as per usual.

So far I've updated the drivers, uninstalled the drivers completely and reinstalled them (automatically after restarting laptop), and have checked for updates on my computer (all up to date). My device manger does have 2 drivers listed which I thought was weird, but maybe it has always been like this? I'm not sure honestly. I uninstalled both and they both came back after restarting. See the image here:

Is there anything else to try? I thought uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them would fix it, but nope.

System details: Windows 10, Acer Aspire laptop (~7 months old? No issues thus far). Let me know if I need to provide any more details! Very frustrated and need to get to bed now because of work in the morning, but I will be sure to check back and try any suggestions and answer any questions.

I'm using an Ideapad Z560 with Windows 7 and whatever sound device it came with. The headphones work fine, but the laptop's speakers don't work unless I put the computer to sleep and turn it on again. And even then, they only work for about two minutes before they shut off again. I checked the Volume Mixer and the speakers are on and apparently playing sound, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Plugging and unplugging the headphones doesn't work; it seems that the computer is able to register when the headphones are plugged in, so that's not it.

Answer:Ideapad Z560 speakers stop working after a couple of minutes but the headphones are fine

You will have a runbox and type there devmgmt.msc hit Enter
Look under Sound, video and game controllers
look for anything like Conexant High Definition Audio

Now download the driver here
Conexant Audio Driver      IN2AUD34WW5.exe     151 MB
And install that.

Hi, hope I'm posting in the right place.

I had a set of GE 2.1 speakers working well with my Sony Vaio for about a year. Recently the sound started to go in & out, I had to move the wire around a lot and tape it or hold it in a certain spot to get them to work. Then one day they stopped working altogether. Assuming it was the speakers, I went and bought a new set from Best Buy. Took them home, plugged them in... and nothing, nothing at all. So I tried the OLD speakers in another desktop computer, and they worked perfectly.

So I assumed my headphone jack was broken and was going to go about trying to get a new piece and solder it and all that, but then I'm sitting here and just realized my headphones work perfectly.

What's wrong? How come the headphones work, but 2 pairs of external speakers don't?

Thanks so much

I just bought a new Logitech Z-560 set, which comes with 4 satellite speakers and a subwoofer. After connecting everything, the two rear speakers are only making a kind of hissing noise, while playing NO sounds at all. The front two speakers are playing music, which sounds bit distorted, but the subwoofer is giving off this loud annoying sound. It sounds like this deep bass sound that just won't go away, it's a constant deep bass sound. I connected the speakers to my sound card, which I believe is only 2-channel. Does 2-channel mean that I can only get 2 speakers to work, not 4? Any ideas why the woofer is making this annoying sound? I turned down the bass but it doesn't help. The front 2 speakers don't even play sounds clearly either.

Answer:Speakers work fine but Headphones don't

Check the internal cabling between the front panel headphone/mic jacks and the motherboard connection for the HD front panel audio. Reseat the cable(s) (unplug then plug back in) at the motherboard end and at the front panel end.

I get sound over the headphones no problem when listening to computer files using Windows Media

But if I want to share what i am listening to, say a radio broadcast, over the internal speakers, the file plays but no sound comes out.

The speakers have not been muted, and are set at a mid volume level

it has been this way three weeks now. About three weeks before this happened, I could not get my RealPlayer music files to play.

I wonder if there is something about my computer choosing a default (or maybe I chose one) What would be ideal for me is if this computer would let me alternate between programs - but it seems to prefer that I use one system or another (My old Windows '95 always let me alternate - I could use Windows Media for a half hour, the RealPlaye, then PlayJ.)

Any help appreciated

You probably know famous rear speaker problem. So i skip the info and come directly to question:

Rear speakers works just fine on firefox and speaker test.
Rear speakers dont work on anything else.

What can possibly cause this? How do i fix this once and for all.

Speakers: 4+1 Creative
OS: Windows 7 pro.
Realtek Hd Audio ALC898 Codec.

Edit 1: I also found quite interesting thing that, when i change speakers 5.1 to 7.1, youtube video on chrome stops immidiately(even if full) and try to load from begining. But this is not happening on firefox.

Also when you right click to video and go to statistics, on the chrome it says avc1.4d4015 codec is using but on the firefox it says 1 audio factor.

Answer:Anyone knows why rear speakers works fine on firefox?

1. Check the Device Manager. You should ONLY have RealTek audio and Intel HDMI audio listed. If you have HD Audio Codec, uninstall that, then restart the PC and see if the sound works.

If not, uninstall the RealTek in the Device Manager, DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. This fixes many problems.

I have a sound problem with my computer (satellite L 70)
I've tried everything but nothing to do, no sound output, but by plugging headphones into the audio port its working well, then I uninstall Conexant reinstall, same for dts sound but its still not working,

thank you

Answer:Satellite L70 - no sound from speakers but headphones work fine

In my opinion the notebook symptoms are clear enough: it does not look like sound driver or system problem because the sound appears using the headphones.

I think the internal speakers are faulty?. it looks strange to me that both speakers started to malfunction at the same time but such issue could happen.

But before you would contact the Toshiba authorized service provider for fix, I would recommend you to recover the notebook just to be 100% sure that this issue is not related to software/system fault.

Maybe the speakers are not faulty but the tiny switch which is placed in the headphone port malfunctions ?:|
The tiny switch mutes the speakers when the headphones are plugged in.
Try to move the headphone jack a little bit? maybe you could notice some differences?

But just one question; can you see some yellow exclamation marks in the device manager? Did you try to reinstall the sound driver?
If not then I recommend to reinstall it!

I've had this computer for about 6 years and they've worked fine until I had to completely reinstall windows because of a virus. I'm thinking it has something to do with the drivers but I've searched Google and it wasn't really any help. Here's a screen shot of the Device Manager:

Answer:speakers not working on windows xp?

Hi .

If you don't see any yellow or red markings in Device Manager, then all drivers would appear to be properly installed.

If you see the volume icon on the taskbar...then your audio drivers are properly installed.

Have you checked the connections?

Have you checked the volume icon to see if anything is muted?

I recently tried to set up a new HP Notebook 15-ay114ng. The notebook was shipped with FreeDOS, but I installed Windows 10 pro (64-bit) as well as all recent drivers from the HP product page. Everything works like a charm, except the two internal speakers. I followed the guidelines laid out in, but I was unsuccessful in getting the internal speakers to work. The microphone and headphone jacks are working properly, I checked the latter with external speakers and headphones and the former with the Windows speech recognition. I am wondering what I am missing. (Perhaps the speakers are simply defective? Is there a way to make sure of this?) (a technical question: are the speakers connected to the Realtek ALC codec or attached to some other codec on the HDA bus?)

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a bit of guidance if possible.

My Dilemma:

I have 2 sets of speakers plugged in to my computer - one set in the speaker jack, the other in the line in (switched to rear output).
Until recently, everything worked fine, however now I am only getting sound from the right speakers from both jacks. There is no fault in any of the speakers. I've tried with only one set plugged in, and with them switched round - same result. Also the same result when I use headphones plugged in to the headphone jack at the front of my pc.

Device manager has indicated no fault in any drivers.

Hello Community, My THinkpad T410, Type 2912-45G, Windows 7 (64bit) has a problem with the speakers. Starting last monday (June 25th) my speakers stop working. When I boot the TP you can hear a static click through the speakers and it plays the windows sound for one second only. After the second you can hear another static click and the speaker stops working. Thats pretty much the way it is with all other audio content, when the TP is booted. After pressing the Mute-Button or the volume-up or volume-down buttons the speakers will resume working for a second or so (still the static click, right before this second and afterward). When I plug in my Headpones everything works fine. When I unplug my headphones, speakers do work again for another second. I allready updated my BIOS, installed and uninstalled the driver, activated the sound-card (CONEXANT 20585 HD AUDIO), tried to update the driver. But nothing worked so far. I allready checked whether the switch in the headphone jack is stuck, but I couldn't find anything. Did anyone experience the same or a similar problem? As the speakers do work for the mentioned second I assume, that the Hardware should be fine. As the headphones work properly the sound-card should be detected and istalled correctly. I would really appreciate if someone could help me out on this. Sending the TP in (it is still whitin warranty) is going to be my last option since I need the TP for work. Thank you very much.... Read more

Running windows 8. Just got the annoying blue ribbon on my screen counting down from 15 minutes warning that my computer was going to restart to install 'important' updates. This all seemed a bit random, id only updated the other day i thought..

Anyway, upon my computer restarting, I have discovered that my laptops speakers are not working. I have checked the drivers and all are up to date and I have also done a hard reset, or so I believe, but shutting down and removing all power, including the battery with no luck.

Speakers turned up to full but no sound at all. I have checked 'update history' and according to my computer, these been no updates since the 10th of this month, 3 days ago. So what exactly happened earlier?

Anyone have any ideas at all? Im sick of these windows updates and even more annoyed now!!

Hello i recently installed windows 7 and my speakers are not working i tried installing motherboard audio driver but still not working. When i go to sound setting i only see this "AMD High Definition Audio Device" does anybody know how to fix this ????

Answer:Speakers not working after reinstalling windows 7

AMD High Definition Audio Device is for HDMI audio. It is not for the PC audio.

I suspect something wasn't installed with the reinstall, assuming the hardware is recent (you need to fully fill in the My System Specs - helps us to try and help you), Windows would have installed the generic, basic function High Definition Audio Device.

After downloading W10 onto my new PC the speakers stopped working, how do I put this right??

Answer:Windows Ten is preventing my speakers from working

Download the latest Drivers.
Of course you may be in the position that I am. My MOBO/Chip are so old the there are not Drivers available for W7! (Vista are the most up-to-date
So I bought a USB Sound Dongle, for less than a £5'er including postage. Of course it's not as good as my HiFi, but neither was the PC before, when it ran WXP.

Hi there,
My computer is an HP Pavilion Notebook installed with Windows Vista, Home Premium. I am having trouble with my speakers. Every so often, my computer changes the sound settings by itself (don't know why) and sets 'Independant Dual Headphones' as the default playback device. When I right click the sound icon in the bottom right hand corner and look at the playback devices, it gives me two options: either the headphones, or SPDIF (Digital Out via HP Dock). It says that they're both working. I've tried setting the second one as the default, but the speakers still don't work. I know that the speakers themselves do work and it's just a problem with the settings, because I took the computer into the shop for another problem and asked them to look at the sound at the same time, and when I got the computer back, they said it was just a settings error and they had reset the sound settings. Thing is, I can't find how to reset the sound settings myself, so that the speakers are the default. It would be good to know how to do this, because my computer often switches the default to headphones for no reason, but usually it fixes itself after a time.

Your help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks, C.

P.S. No, the headphones are not plugged in.

I have a new inspiron 7559 (about a month old), windows 10, everything updated, no interfering antivirus, etc.
Since the start, I've been unable to use my external mic. I have a headset with a microphone, on one of those mic+speaker combined 3.5mm plugs. When I plug it in, the sound system detects my headset just fine and routes sound to it.
It kinda bugs me that the system doesn't show the individual devices to windows for finer control, and instead just reports a single audio device, but ok fine, I can understand that from a technical POV.
The real problem though is that no matter what I do, only the built-in microphone is used, never my external one on the 3.5mm plug. It doesn't show up as a device, there's no setting for it in the sound system, and the system doesn't switch to it automatically when it's plugged in. I just cannot get any sound from it (no, it isn't broken).
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Answer:Inspiron 7559 refuses to enable external mic (speakers work fine)

Fazirithere's no setting for it in the sound system,
Hello. The setting is "Microphone" in the list of devices in the recording tab of the sound properties. "Microphone" is for either the built-in mic or the external mic when one is plugged in.

Note that it must say "Realtek" under "Microphone". If it just says "High Definition Audio Device" then the Windows native audio driver is installed, and it does not recognize the external mic jack.
If the Realtek driver is installed, you can right click on Microphone and open its properties and fool with them, but if the Realtek driver is not detecting the mic then it is probably a buggy driver. It detects a mic by using impedance sensing, and I don't think they always set the parameters correctly.

Hello, I woke up today to find that the speakers on my Ideapad U530 Touch were no longer working correctly. I have spent several hours trying to fix this issue, but have had no luck so far. I have read through many threads on here and across the internet, but none of the solutions have worked.  The speakers on my laptop are not producing any sound, but when I plug in headphones they work fine. When I plug my headphones in and take them out I get the prompt in the bottom right of my screen notifying me that they were either inserted or removed. I have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. I have run Windows Update. I have performed a system restore. I am out of ideas and would really appreciate any help. Thanks.

Answer:IdeaPad U530 Touch: No Sound Through Speakers, Headphones Work Fine

Happens with my U400 too once in a while.  The fix that works for me is go to: Run > type services.msc > find  'Windows Audio', right click and restart!

So basically it started a few days ago (29th of August 2016) and my headphones (razer kraken 7.1) stopped working and the video that i was watching on youtube stopped working too. i assumed it was just a glitch or smthin so i just restarted and it started to work again, about 30 mins later it happens again so i decide to investigate; i can't play any youtube, but i still loads, i can't open windows media player, i can't play songs on spotify, i can still go through the internet just fine, i can even play overwatch.
So i tried switching to my speakers, and everything works just fine, and as soon as i switched to my headphones it stopped working. i have restarted my rig several times over that past few days, and the headphones stop working between 20mins - 3 hours
i have updated my realtek and razer synapse drivers, so i am stumped as to what i should do
what i think it might be
driver problem
help will be appreciated
BTW i added DXDiag

Answer:Sound/video Stop wrking with headphones, fine with speakers (realtek)

The headset, according to the Dxdiag suggests they are USB. USB headsets do not use the PC's sound card (e.g. Realtek) but instead take digital data and convert it to audio inside the headset.

Have you tried a different USB port? e.g. if you are using a front USB port, try a rear port.
You could also "refresh" the USB headset. Plug it in then go to the Device Manager and uninstall the headset. Disconnect it from the PC and then restart the PC. After Windows has started plug in the headset and Windows should detect and reinstall it.

With Dell Support Assist microphone test -- earphone playback is good, on-board speaker is terribly scratchy. The sound card lists as "ATI high Definition Audio Device" and "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC."
The laptop is Dell Studio 15 (1555) running windows 7 Professional, 236GB used, 214GB free space, Intel P8700 2.53 GHz Processor, 64 bit OS, 4GB memoryThe built-in speakers used to sound good but now they are too scratchy to understand. However the headset and external speakers (both 3.5 mm jack interface) sound good and a HDMI connected projector sounds good.
I will appreciate advice.

Answer:On-board speakers are scratchy but external speakers & headphones sound good?

Hello. As a test, switch from the IDT audio driver to the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "IDT High Definition Audio Device".3. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the IDT driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]
If you get the noise while using the native driver then it is not a driver issue, which would mean there is a strong chance of speaker failure, particularly since the noise is not in headphones. If you would like to replace the speakers I can point you to the service manual.

I'm a relative newcomer to personal computers.

I'm using Windows 10, 64-bit. About a week ago or so, the Windows button, the New Notifications button, and the Speakers button stopped working. For example, when I left click on the Windows a button small circle appears for a few seconds and then disappears, but that's all.

Curiously, perhaps, when I right click on the buttons they work (in terms of "right clicking" (sorry about the phrase).

Any suggestions as to how the solve this problem is appreciated.

Using a 3.5mm stereo mini phone plug to RCA jack adapter I have managed to connect my comps sound to the radio and it works. However, due to a fit of stupidity I have overlooked the fact that only either the radio's speakers or the computer's speakers can be connected to the computer's sound output at once.

I am wondering if its possible to have both my radio's speakers as well as my computer's speakers play at the same time because I would like to achieve a surround sound effect because of the way my room is made. My computer has a jack slot behind that looks like " (<-->)" , almost like that ordinary output one which looks like "(<-). Can that be used as an output slot as well? Cuz when I tried putting the radio into the (<-->) slot and the comps speakers into the (<-) or vice versa, only the one put into the (<-) will play.

Answer:How to make radio speakers and computer speakers play at the same time?

Go get a splitter. I have my audio output setup using a splitter and it works fine. You can hook up both devices to the 1 output jack on your pc.

Hello. After you re-install the Realtek audio driver, run the audio test in the ePSA diagnostic. If you cannot hear tones during the test, then the speakers have failed or become disconnected. If you do hear the tones then the speakers are okay.

I am currently working on a homemade project in my free time called Project Surround. I am trying to get a full surround sound setup in my room. I have 2 wired speakers in the front and a Bluetooth speaker in the back. The problem is I need both the wired and Bluetooth speakers to play at the same time. Any way I can do that?

Answer:Play Audio from Wired Speakers and Bluetooth Speakers at the same time

Windows only allows one default audio playback device, thus unless you can find some third party app that will allow both, you won't be able to do that. You will need a full surround PC sound system.

When I connect external speakers, the internal speakers continue to play. So I have sound on both. Other laptops turn off the internal speakers when an extenal one is connected.
How to make the L500 also do the same?

Answer:Satellite L500-13T - External speakers do not mute internal speakers

First try updating the BIOS to the latest version.

Also check the Sound Settings in Windows - perhaps you can configure this 'feature'.

Also check the HDMI settings, and have a read of the Users Manual.

Hi everyone,

I've been researching and pulling my hair out, and starting to think what I'm after is somehow not possible to achieve.

My goal is to be able to record my screen, my speakers, and my mic (narration), while also being able to playback ONLY my speakers to my headphones.

Basically, I wish to monitor ONLY the speaker audio, WITHOUT my mic (narration).

I thought I could achieve this by using Realtek HD Audio Manager, which allows you to playback two different audio streams simultaneously. However, it would seem that only certain Windows applications which are written to give you the option of changing the playback device can take advantage of this feature. The particular Windows application which I am recording does not give me that option.

So essentially I am wondering if there is a way to force an application to output to a particular playback device, ie. the Realtek HD Audio 2nd Output. The Realtek HD Audio 2nd Output would play to my headphones (application audio ONLY) while at the same time I would be able to record my screen, my speakers, and my mic all together at once.

I did find this post which broke my heart as it seems this might not be possible due to Windows only providing a single mixer, but wanted to try asking around here too -> Different audio output for certain programs [Solved] - Multimedia - Apps General Discussion

I have a pair of Creative T40 speakers plugged into the 3.5mm jack on my laptop. I got hold of a bluetooth speaker and that was recognised straight-away.

I have installed a large monitor (32inch) to the laptop on which I work as well as watch movies and play games. I was wondering if I could setup that audio, be it music, gaming audio or movie audio could be played through BOTH sets of speakers.

The main T40's are on either side of the monitor and I have the bluetooth speaker behind me on a shelf. That would, kind-of, give me surround sound. Or when I have people over I could get better sound if I could just move the bluetooth speaker to a different part of the room.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thank you.

I recently got a new HP zBook 15 with the slim docking station and am experiencing an issue related to the speaker output. If I plug my external powered Bose speakers into the line out of the docking station I get sound out of both the external Bose speakers and the internal laptop speakers at the same time. In addition the sound from the Bose speakers sounds horrible...tinny and completely lacking any bass. If I plug the Bose speakers into the headphone jack on the side of the laptop (not the docking station) then I get great sound and ONLY the Bose speakers produce sound (which is what I want). Is there a fix to get only the external speakers to play when plugged into the docking station audio out? I've uninstalled and re-installed the Conexent ISST Audio drivers change. I've tried messing with the B&O Sound Control panel, but it doesn't have any configuration for the audio ports. I've messed around in the Windows Playback devices control panel, but can't seem to find a way to shut off the internal laptop speakers. FYI, this is a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro. All Mircosoft updates installed. All HP updates installed via the HP Support Assistant. Latest laptop BIOS installed. Help! The sound output sounds HORRIBLE through the docking station. There must be a fix.

I had a home theater system I bought for a couple hundred bucks with the Dolby 5.1 speakers.

The CD/DVD player on the Home theater system broke after a couple of years. Not a big deal as it wasn't real expensive. Anyway, I went out and bought another cheap one.

Well, now I have these 5.1 Dolby speakers that sound great (I'm only a minor audiophile) to me. I went out and got a Creative Live 24 Bit 5.1 capable sound card.

It is worth mentioning that the 5.1 speakers each had there own individual port on the home theater system. In other words, while the Creative sound card has three output for the 5.1 system, the speakers I want to convert don't have the kind of set up right now to accomodate this.

Does anyone know how to transform 5.1 home theater speakers to 5.1 sound card with 3 sound outputs on a Create Live computer capable speakers? I can't imagine this has never been done before.

Thanks for all your help in advance.

Answer:Transforming 5.1 Home Theater Speakers to 5.1 Computer speakers

If the amplifier has RCA input jacks for channels, you could just use three regular 3.5mm stereo jack - 2 x RCA cables, just connect them correctly.

Another alternative, if the option is available, is to use S/PDIF, but then you wouldn't get multichannel sound from games (lack of Dolby Digital encoding).

Answer:External speakers do not turn off Qosmio x770 speakers

You may check the Realtek HD Audio Manager in the Control Panel.
In the top right corner, there's a little yellow folder called "Connector Settings?.
There, you could enable the setting "Enable pop-up dialog, when device is plugged in".
Now when you plug in an external speaker or headphones, it pops up and I select the option "headphone" (instead of "line-in"), and then the sound comes out only through the headphones/ext.speaker.

I have two monitors (one VGA and one HDMI ) to the CPU (new XPS 8700), but sound only comes out of the monitor speaker with the HDMI connection.  The other speaker does work and has been tested with a 3.5MM speaker cable.
The video card is NVIDA GTX 745.  In the audio set-up control panel from the NVIDIA, I disabled audio from the HDMI thinking that I could then run 3.5MM cable on a Y splitter to the audio out port and by-pass the HDMI cable.  I tried every port and either experienced no sound or sound in one or the other speaker.
I realize these speakers are not the best and I am fine with them.  I like the clean clutter desktop look.
Can anyone help me to get both of these monitor speakers working?

Hi guys, just reinstalled windows 7. everything works great, then I went to paly a file and to my surprise, no sound. Tested speakers on another device, they work. Sound card drivers are working and up to date.

When I play a media file, I can see the sound gage go. So I went in sounds, playback device, and all I see in there is my sound card, no speakers or headphones icon. Thus no sounds from speakers. Tried other headphones/speakers they also dont work on the PC.

First two screenshots are my Device Manager, third one shows my playback devices.. My wife needs this for her business and I am losing sleep over this for days now I tried everything. Any ideas?

Answer:Windows 7 SOUND, No Speakers in Playback device, thus no sound from speakers

Hi -

What sound card do you have?

Double-click on the HD audio device in Device Manager - what is driver and date?

Usually there is an audio codec/ drivers, e.g., IDT, Realtek, etc... that must be installed.

What are system specs - exact model number from label on back of PC, please.

Regards. . .

I'm using a Packard Bell laptop, Windows Vista and a Realtek sound card.

I've searched a lot to find how to NOT mute my laptop speakers when I insert something in the audio-out-jack.

The next threads say it's not possible by the hardware:
They're closed, so I can't comment on them.

BUT when I dual boot to Ubuntu (using the same hardware), I can easily choose to mute the internal speakers, or the jack, or none at all. So why can't it be possible on Vista?

Answer:Same audio through laptop speakers and external speakers

You answered your own question... It's a software/OS issue. If Vista's Realtek options in the Control Panel don't give you the same options as in Ubuntu, you're out of luck

I just changed from Bose Companion 3 speakers to Companion 5 because the 3 died. The 3 system used a stereo jack plugged into the headphone jack and worked fine until the Bose power supply(?) failed. The 5 uses a USB to connect.

I have an HDMI cable from my TV set top box to computer. Selecting the HDMI input shows only full screen TV display on computer. Also there is a coax cable from set top box to TV tuner card in computer. This allows TV to be displayed via Media Center in an adjustable window and I can open other windows (a browser, for instance) simultaneously. I choose which connection to use on my computer.

Previously with the Companion 3 speakers all sound came from them no matter the source. Now with the 5 speakers the HDMI TV source the sound comes from computer speakers not the Bose speakers. But if I play my music files (using Media Player) or TV (using Media Center) the sound does come from Bose speakers. Also sound from internet (YouTube, news videos, etc.) comes through Bose speakers.

Maybe someone has had this problem and knows a solution.

Answer:Some content from computer speakers and some from external speakers

I'm confused on where you plug in your hdmi set top box. Into your DISPLAY directly using and HDMI in port or some other HDMI in on your PC (like a graphics card?)

Also you have external computer speakers? do they plug in to your pc analog style? I know you said the Bose 5's are with usb.

Is this possible?

Answer:How do I make audio come out TV speakers and PC speakers simultaniously

Not that I'm aware. You can only set a single "default" device in Windows.

Hi all,

I have a Dell XPS M1330 laptop and have recently upgraded to windows 7 professional (32bit) from windows vista. Everything seems to be running smoothly except I can get no sound from the internal laptop speakers. When I plug in external speakers in via the jacks on the front, sound comes through fine, but as soon as I unplug them there is nothing. Headphones also work like this too. Under sounds in device manager, it simply says 'High Definition Audio Device', and I'm not sure if I should be downloading some other drivers?

Any advice is welcome!

Answer:External Speakers work, Laptop speakers do not

What do you have set as your default sound device? Mine is set to my external speakers.

Hi! Please bear with me ... I will not be using the correct terminology, but hope I explain myself OK all the same!
I have a DELL studio XPS PC With Windows 7. I used to have a DELL screen, with a speaker section attached, which belonged to my previous DELL. (Altec Lansing 5650 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers with Subwoofer set).
I ditched this due to the plastic attachments breaking, and the fact that I could only get sound from 2 of the speakers, not all 4, after changing my PC. I therefore thought it was an unnecessary amount of "hardware" kicking around my desk just for getting sound out of 2 speakers.
So, I bought Creative T15 Wireless (Bluetooth) speakers, although I use the wire directly into my PC due to not having Bluetooth. These worked fine to begin with - OK sound, so not complaining.
Now, I'm not sure whether this happened simultaneously with buying a New screen (a Samsung 24") but all of a sudden I started getting very scratchy noises coming from the left speaker. This noise comes even when unplugged from my computer. I contacted Creative who said that if the speakers work when attached to my ipod/iphone then there is nothing wrong with them:

That means the speaker is good. If speaker is faulty, the issue will remain the same no matter as to what device you connect it. Issue seems to be with your computer sound card's audio out. Check the settings in your computer, playback application settings . Reinstall/update the compu... Read more

Answer:Bad scratchy noise from speakers, but speakers OK. No IDE ATA/ATAPI???

I started getting very scratchy noises coming from the left speaker. This noise comes even when unplugged from my computer

If I understand that statement, your speakers have the scratchy sound, even when unplugged from the computer. Does this happen if the monitor is powered off? (trying to determine if there is some radiation from the monitor that is affecting the speakers).

I have the ordinary internal speakers (2) playing music on my laptop and they work fine, but I have a pair of (not old) wireless speakers and I though is there a way were possibly a setting could allow me to play music through all of them, it would be great to have my laptop and some speakers in another room playing music.

I've looked deep, but I thought maybe some experts know the trick.

i was wondering what would be better for me, i will either be gettting the audiy 2 zs to the audigy x-fi for my next build, and my comp is pretty much a media comp that is hooked up to my tv and some rly old speakers/receiver. i want to get a new sterio system but was wondering if should just get some rly good speakers like the logitch z-5500. my speakers now are also used for listening to my tv.

so should i get comp speakers for my setup or sterio speakers, and if i got sterio then i would get a new reciever for around 200$ and will my sound card be able to connect to it? what type of connection would i even need?

possibly this receiver

i will also be getting some speakers for it but not sure what they are gunna be yet

for my new comp i would be getting the z-5300 or z-5500

and either the audigy 2 zs or audigy x-fi

Answer:sterio speakers vs comp speakers

Definitely get the X-fi ive had both cards and the x-fi is much better. as far as connections u can just use stereo to RCA cables or a digital coax cable. With the coax cable you may need to by a adapter head for the stereo jack

How would one go about using both regular computer speakers and speakers on a tv hooked up with a hdmi cable. They work independently but not together.

Answer:use tv speakers and computer speakers at same time

I am pretty sure that cannot be done without a 3rd party program.

I was using Pleomax speakers(the usual kind that connect to the sound card )a while ago. They were just plug and play kind no software needed. They seemed to work fine . Then I replaced them with the USB speakers which also worked alrite(also plug and play). Then I remove the USB speakers and connect the old ones back on and now there is no sound. The computer doesn't even recognise that the speakers are connected and says no device. When I try opening the sound control it gives me this error message saying "no sound mixers" In the sounds and audio devices the volume, audio and voice parts are all greyed out In every part it just says No device I found this answer before saying that I have to use the Run application and open the services.msc and check Windows Audio, I did and found it is started but still the problem persists F:\Program Files\Belarc\Advisor\System\tmp\(Abdul-0fb168e59).htmlOn this link you'll be able to find everything about my compPlease I need help ASAP

I hooked up a pair of wireless Rockefish speakers via USB and they work fine but it cuts out the regular line out speakers that came with my computer. Is there anyway I can run both pairs simutaneously.

Answer:usb wireless speakers cut out computer speakers

No. You can only select a single audio device as the "default audio" source. In your case, that would be the standard audio chipset (to use the line out) or the USB chipset for the wireless speakers.

All of the monitors that I have had with speakers, I had to run the speaker wire from the CPU to the monitor.
Have you read the instructions that came with the monitor?

I have a Creative SB X-Fi Xtreme PCI-Ex, and Logitech Z-5500 5.1 THX speakers.

All speakers work; all software, drivers and codecs are up-to-date.

Recently I noticed that in the Speaker Setup screen, the test button only results in sound from the left and right front speakers.

I checked because after a VLC update, mkv files no longer played correctly in the 5.1 mode. Music played, but the voices were muted (while no speakers are muted, and all are connected). I have to select "2 front, 2 rear" Audio Device in order to hear the speech as well.

I have the same problem when playing movies in PowerDVD, where I have to select the 2-speakers setting in order to hear all the sound.

- Previously the test button did sound all 5 speakers
- The test button on the Logitech remote still sounds all 5 speakers

I have Windows 7 Professional, 32 bit.

Any suggestions?

Answer:5.1 speakers but test signal only on 2 speakers

Just got a Dell Inspiron 15 laptop and use an audio cable to connect to my stereo receiver and speakers. The speakers are working, but so is the laptop speakers. Any idea how I shut them off so the sound doesn't compete with my house speakers.

I have a problem with audio on system speakers Inspiron 13 5368 2-in-1. I have exhausted all my ideas.
The audio is fine through plugged in headset but through system speakers it starts loud and fades away to very faint audio coming from two speakers.Could this be some type of Auto volume control? This problem exists with ITunes with local media, DIRECTV, Slacker, YouTube.
This has existed through several W10 upgrades. I am on the latest W10. No updates available. I have used Dell Auto Update and verified through the website no other drivers are missing or outdated
With the deal Audio I restored to default, disabled equalizer, audio and microphone enhancement. No luck
I have removed audio devices from device manager rebooted to same results. Any other ideas?

Answer:Fading sound on system speakers but sound is fine on headphones

djjmj wrote: " I have used Dell Auto Update "

Dell Auto Update you're referring to is Dell Support Assist? If no, I suggest you diagnose Audio with Dell Support Assist. Most Dell systems have Support Assist pre-installed. You can check by typing Support Assist onto [Cortana] search box or right click windows logo and then click on 'Programs & Features'. If Support Assist isn't installed on system then I suggest you click on the link below and stroll down to 'Download Now'.

my computer has no sound. I cannot figure out why. I reinstalled my Avance AC'97 sound driver and no luck. the speakers work fine. does anyone know what i can do? I didn't change anything before the sound went out. It just isn't there.

Answer:No sound from computer, speakers work fine... Avance AC'97 sound

physically check your cables, as usually this problem is caused by human error. next, check all of your volumes. what OS, service pack, and version are you running?
