This is my first post, and I did a quick search and didn't see my problem, so I hope I didn't look over something that was already in here.Okay, I have a Toshiba Satellite S-...something or other, that, up until yesterday, was running Windows XP. I bought a usb 2.0 pc mcia card, but it wouldn't install correctly because I apparently didn't have SP-1 installed. I tried to install sp-1, and then restarted. XP loaded, and I made it to the login page, and I got an error. I forget the exact message, but it was something to the effect that it couldn't verify windows or a license I think. I clicked okay, and tried to logon, but I just got the message again.Figuring I messed up the installation, I restarted in safe mode, and did a system restore.Upon rebooting, I found that this didn't help.>.> Then I tried to tell the system to use the last known good configuration. (I think that was kinda dumb now, but I was flailing. ;_;)I restarted, and I saw the os loader screen, then a really quick blue flash, and then the screen went black, and it shut down. It stated to restart on its own, and just went in a loop. Os screen for a bit, blue flash, black, restart. It does this when I try to start in safe mode as well.Obviously, I can get into the bios and such, I just can't get windows to start.I started in one mode (I don't know which one, sorry) and it said that I had Windows XP SP-1, so I guess the installation was at least partially successful.I have the system restore discs that came with the laptop, and if I press 'c' during boot it gives me the option to return to the factory image, but I (stupidly) have not backed up in a while, and I would very much like to save my information. If I could just get the really important things onto my external before reinstalling everything, I would be eternally grateful. (And if I didn't have to lose anything, well, that would be fantastic, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.)Please, please someone help me.
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Alicia:Yeah, when i installed service pack 2 for the first time, Windows XP would not let me log on till i activated Windows again, because it was 40 days past the date i originally installed Windows XP. You can try starting the computer with the system restoration CD and doing a repair installation (that is, if this option is available on the restoration CD). Then, you can reinstall the service pack and activate Windows if you are connected to the Internet (or call the Microsoft phone number indicated if you are not).http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/doug92.mspxIf the option to do a repair installation is not available, the only way to get to your files is to connect the hard drive to another laptop (or to a desktop computer with a laptop-to-desktop adapter) as a slave drive and copying the files you want to the other computer, so you can then copy them to a CD-R or DVD-R or other removable storage media.Doc

i went onto a website to get cheatcodes for a game. but then firefox showed an error " java has done an illegal operation, it is recommanded to restart your nagivator". which ii did. i then tried to start firefox again. which it then had an error which happened each time i started to open firefox. the next day, it was fine but my bittorrent started to go out.
then suddenly it shutdown and i thought nothing of it, restart and try to log back on. but then it had me to choose safe mode and other modes that i could use. I tried each of it but it would flash a Blue screen of death but then restart before i could read it.
Some i just tried it the next day, which i could log on, but then it had a BSOD error again "c000021a {fatal system error} the system .... "
and i had to restart, and i got on again , but then it gave me another BSOD
"BAD_POOL_CALLER".
But each time it happened, i could always go onto the sections where i could choose the type of mode i want ( safe, normal etc). but today it would start for a bit then "RAM R/W TEST failed" F1 to setup" and it wouldnt even load the modes anymore. If anyone would help me, that would be great,
thanks
Can you boot to your WinXP CD? If so then when it finally boots to the CD choose "Repair Console" this will allow you to use the command line. From here do something like this.
COPY /Y C:\WINNT\repair\RegBack\*.* C:\WINNT\system32\config\*.*
This will replace the registry to the last time the registry was backed up. Hopefully you didn't backup the registry at the time the problems started to happen.
Also if you desire not to copy over the entire registry you can do it one hive at a time. Following is a list of the files that are the registry hives. I would suggest starting with the System hive and then reboot and if the problem still persists do the Software hive next. Note these files don't have a file extension on them
DEFAULT
SAM
SECURITY
SOFTWARE
SYSTEM
I would suggest to first backup these hives from the C:\WINNT\system32\config\ to folder of your making
or choice just don't back them up to the C:\WINNT\repair\RegBack\ folder.
You will probably need to reapply any services patches that you have previously installed.
Also you may want to take a look at this.

OK, my mates amd64 overheated the other day because he was doing some hard core 3d generation overnight with it, non stop. Its just got the new fan to keep it cool, but when it restarts it now gets to the desktop, and then stops, shows no icons or anything. so i diagnosed it was explorer because of this. I do ctrl alt del andtell it to start a new process called 'explorer.exe' and I get this message:
"This file does not have a program accossiation for performing this action/ Create an accossiation in the folder option pontrol panel"
So, whats going wrong?
I recently built a new system on the ASUS P5QPL-AM mobo.
Everything is running fine until i accidentally installed the wrong driver for audio (chose the wrong windows version)...
Now, when i press the power button, there is no display on the monitor, the cpu fan will not run at all and the power button does not light up at all... :cry
Did i just killed my mobo?
Is there any way to bring it back to life??
Any help is very much appreciated... :cry
Will it start in safe mode- f8 as you startup.
If it will then right click my computer, click manage, then click devices, then click on sound drivers, and click roll back driver- or, uninstal, reboot, and windows should find it again and allot it a driver
I have to go out now, but come back, if you still have a problem, there are others who, no doubt will help.
After performing a clean installation of Windows Vista on my HP desktop it doesn't start.
After the "completing installation" stage of the installation the computer shut down and rebooted, I then waited like normally but instead of asking me to set up my user account my computer just shut down.
I restarted my computer and it gave me a black screen that said "system error recovery" and gave me 5 options ... Start windows with safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known good configuration and start windows normally.
I have tried all of these and none of them work... It shows the Microsoft corporation loading screen and then just shuts off.
I have also tried booting from cd but after it loads windows files it just sits in a black screen for 5 to 10 minutes then goes to a light blue screen and stya there stuck.
I would greatly appreciate any help thanks.
It would help the Tech's if you would list the Spec's for your computer.

Hi volt122,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
The motherboard is embedded with an OEM Product key. which means the Windows version that will work with the product key is an OEM WIndows as well.
If you install a non lenovo WIndows, it will not ask for a product key, it will not use the key on the motherboard, instead it will use a generic product key which will eventually say that it is not genuine.
If you wan to use a non Lenovo WIndows installer you will need to purchase a product key from Microsoft.
If you want to use the product key in the Motherboard, You will need to obtain a Lenovo Recovery CD. You can get that from Lenovo Technical Team and ask how to get it.
Hope this helps
Cheers!

Hi guys, I just tried to upgrade my is from windows 7 home pro to windows 8. During installation laptop crashed during second restart. Now I can,t get it to load past the windows logo. Is there any way to return back to windows 7. I can't start in safe mode as it says windows 8 cannot complete installation in safe mode. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I don't have a windows recovery disc and don't particularly want to have everything willed. Mark
If you travel to the laptop manuf. site there will be info on using the hidden Recovery Partition...This will take the laptop back to Day One status...

Windows 8.1
Background
I have had mi notebook for about 1.5 months now. Since the beginning I have had problems with the drivers, having to reinstall the sound, mouse and bluetooth drivers. Ocasionally, the PC would fail to shut off, usually freezing while trying to close windows.
The problem:
Last wednesday, oct 14, I restarted my PC to install some windows updates. The install was not successful, after at least two hours of showing the message "Installing update 7 of 17. Please dont turn off your PC" (and yes it was update 7 of 17 all the time) I decided to turn the computer off. Afterwards the windows repair would start on my next boot up but It failed on several ocations to start windows.
After unsuccessfully trying to restore the PC to its state before the windows update and failing to boot on safe mode I had to recover to the original windows image that came with the system (keeping my files but uninstallinge everything)
After the recovery I proceeded to install my olf programs and everything went ok until last night, oct 18, when again a windows update failed to finish. This time the Pc froze while restarting on the LENOVO logo. I left the computer like that all the night but it remained frozen. Tired I shut it off just to see that again windows repair would fail and the computer wouldnt boot.
Is this problem due to my PC not working, are the drivers the problem or is it windows update fault... Read more
Everything should work 100% with the OEM build and OS assuming its Win 8.1 64bit. If not its most likely a hardware problem. Drivers supplied even though older should work as they must have been certified for the build at Lenovo. Upgrading them may add enhancements and improved functionality. If the Computer is having problems now. Switching to a different OS complicates the diagnosis since Window 10 has plenty of trouble with these system (have you not read the tread you just posted within???) You need to call the tech support team and have them fix or repair your machine. This is a forum only.

hi
i brought an Satellite A300 today and loaded it up and it was fine.
I uninstalled the google toolbar, desktop and earth that it came pre installed with also the mcafree anti virus.
So i could install my own anti virus.
After this the system instructed me to reboot my pc so i did.
Since then the system wont get past the "Please wait screen".
But it will let me boot in safe mode. I have tried a system restore.
Any ideas???
Perhaps you uninstalled too much all at once?
I would run recovery again (on my laptop I hold down the Zero key on power-on) then uninstall those programs one by one, rebooting in between.
Another thing you can try is run msconfig in safe mode, and disable all the non-Microsoft programs that startup, then reboot in Normal mode.
Hi
I have a new Satellite P300-156 which I have been using for about a month with no problems. It has been great.
This morning I had a message come up to install Toshiba Tempo which I did and all was fine until I restarted the laptop and now Vista wont start.
I have followed all the diagnostic tools, tried system restore etc... but still nothing.
I currently live in Italy, so is hard to take it into a computer repair shop as I dont speak Italian and the operating system is in english.
From what I can see my only option now is to do the TOSHIBA HDD Recovery, but I would loose some data which I have done since my last backup. Is there any way to backup data to a usb storage device using command promts before I do this, or is there a simpler way out of this?
Any advice would be great.
Thanks
Keith
Hi
Well, this is really strange issue?
What you could do is to press the F8 button immediately after notebook starting.
This would enable a menu with ?Advanced Boot Options?.
There you could choose the option called ?Last known good configuration (advanced)?.
Please check this option. I this is your last opportunity to boot up the notebook and to start the Vista without using the Recovery CD.
Bye
So I turn my computer off one day only to find it wont start the next day. I open the case up and see the led is on. I flip the switch on the power supply off then on and quickly press the power button. My computer starts but the following time I shut down the computer it again wont start and now the led is blinking. I've never had any issues like this before, any help would be appreciated.
I don't routinely use many usb devices, only my mouse and keyboard and every now and then my ipod. I figure the issue is likely either the power supply or the motherboard. The ps is almost two years old while the motherboard is only about three months old.
It sounds to me like your PSU is the problem, get a hold of another and plug it to your computer and see if that will make it start, if it doesn't it might be BOTH your motherboard and PSU. A bad PSU will burn a motherboard.
Help,
having to use the works computer to post this. My home pc is failing to startup.
Before it had gotten this bad, I had experienced crashes and reboots whilst it was working. They became more frequent and now the computer wont start at all. The power comes on, the fans all whirr, but the computer doesnt even get to the point where it displays the introductory bios screen.
Any advice?
Computer is a little old now. Intel 2600k inside.
Hello leicestersq,
Please provide information about your computer, this includes is it a notebook or desktop, is it a custom build or brand name such as Dell or HP, if a brand name, provide the model name or series number (not serial) if a custom build post the brand and model name or number for the MB, the RAM (including the amount) add on video card if one is used and the PSU (power supply unit) providing these details will enable us to better assist you.
I'm re-installing Win 7 64bit from the Microsoft disc supplied with my computer, and have been following the clean install tut no.1649. All seemed well, but at point 16, when I had confirmed the timezone the next screen wasn't as shown, but the desktop (pic 18 of 19), and nothing else.
The screen resolution was was 800 x 600 and the best I can set it to via display is 1400 x 1050 when it should be 1920 x 1080. Also I am connected to the internet via an ethernet cable, but my screen is showing that there are no connections available.
I was obviously in trouble to re-install, and now feel I am deeper in the mire. Can someone please advise?
You followed the tutorial for Clean Install, ok?
Do you have the Graphics Card's Driver CD? Install the driver.
If you dont have, Go to AMD Graphics Drivers & Software, download the required display driver, and install it.
Everything will be OK, dont worry
Some background: I recently installed a new SSD on my Dell Studio PC and cloned my hard drive to the SSD so that Windows 7 would boot from the SSD. However, to do this, I needed to delete (after backup) a lot of files before cloning so that the drive would fit.
After having a lot of issues, including my back up software suddenly not recognizing backups etc, I finally managed to restore most of my files. Part of the process I followed was changing locations of some user files (such as My Pictures) to the old hard drive.
Anyway, I have had lots of issues with Windows since, with losses of icons etc and programs not working, some of which I have now seemed to have corrected by restoring some of my files in appdata folder. However, I've never been able to bring all these files back as I get messages saying some cannot be moved due to security settings.
Now, I am unable to open files such as explorer.exe and control panel! One message said that the username I was logged in as had prevented me from access.
This all seems bizarre and confusing to me and any help would be appreciated.
Nb: I'm detailing this all from memory whilst on a train so specifics could be a bit fuzy. I can check error messages etc when I get home if that helps.
What cloning software was used?

Hello, I followed the steps in the page 5 of this document: http://h20565.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=5443866&docId=emr_na-c03995716&docLocal... The install_id it gives me is supposed to be like : 1249679, but I've got a number with 10 digits. When I try to input it in the site to have my license keys, it doesn't work. I used my local ip for the curl command (I have no internet connexion on my HP VM, maybe the problem is here?) Maybe I need a global ip for the registration, I don't know.

Hey, guys,
I was tryin' to install Windows 7 on my laptop when it came up with a Windows Error Recovery. It told me that windows had failed to start maybe because of a recent hardware or software change, and it also suggested me to fix the problem by inserting the installation disc. Unfortunately, the disc drive of my laptop could not work any more. I tried entering the safe mode but it told me that windows could not be installe at the mode. the Last known good configuration wouldn't work, either. Would anyone please let me know what the rpoblem is and what I can do? Thanks!
What kind of laptop do you have, and did you verify that it met the requirements for Windows 7?

I really don't want to remove all my files and programs to reinstall Pro so they don't get wiped. IF I purchase Ultimate and install over what Microsoft says is the counterfeit windows 7 Ultimate version, will Windows still recognize the proper 7 Ultimate install and/or will everything get wiped anyway.
Thank you.

Welcome Pauljay to the windows forums.
If you have installed the ultimate version and you then go to MS and pay for the ultimate version, all you should have to do is to enter the code into your registration and it should then validate and you should be ok. Otherwise, I believe that you better copy all the data and anything else you want to save to an external device and then do a boot of the dvd and delete the existing partitions and then reformat and install the correct version.
Calling microsoft might help as they will be glad to sell you the ultimate version but I think that the PRO version is probably more than most people would need.

I have an old install of XP left on an additional harddrive after I got a bigger drive and reinstalled... but now all of a sudden that's the only one it'll boot to! I had some other issues (caused, believe it or not by AVG).. and in the process of that I ran a repair installation over my new and proper XP.. with all the other drives disconnected.. and it was working fine, but as soon as I hook up the other drives... BLAM it's booting into the old install again. Now in disk management it's listed as the Boot Drive and the one that SHOULD be System is listed as active... i read something about making it active to make it boot from that drive... but it's not working.. what is the easiest way to modify where it boots from? I have been trying through the recovery console with fixmbr but that didn't work... i feel like there should be something more straightforward though!
note: the drive with windows that i want to boot off of IS listed first in the hdisk boot priority in the bios...
This may help:

Be sure your "Proper" boot drive is the one listed first in The BIOS boot order. The nomenclature can be confusing. For that matter, just switch the boot order and see what happens.
I have a Dell Latitude D810 with Windows XP Pro SP3. A while ago I got a 60 day trial for Microsoft Office Professional 2007 from microsoft.com and it has expired. As a Christmas gift my family got me the Academic version of Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 with Accounting (for my parents).
I uninstalled the trial version of Microsoft Office Professional 2007 and installed the first disk of Microsoft Office Ultimate which installs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Groove, Publisher, Access, and InfoPath.
After I installed the first disk everything was running fine, but when I tried to install the second disk I recieved a message saying that the setup failed and it told me it had something to do with SQL Server. What is this? What does it do?
I thought that maybe I had to reboot my computer before I could do anything because I had installed the first disk. After rebooting, my computer said: "SQLDUMPER failed initialization your installation is either corrupt or it has been tampered with. Please contact the package vendor or uninstall then reinstall."
I can't uninstall Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 and so under the impression that I screwed the installation up somewhere I tried to use System Restore to go back before I uninstalled the trial version of Microsoft Office Professional 2007.
The restore was successful and I no longer recieved the message reading: "SQLDUMPER failed initialization your installation is either corru... Read more
Sorry for any confusion, but I did NOT undo the restore I made; my bad.
Can someone still help with my computer? If I have to install Ultimate again will it use up another of the three "computers" I am allowed to install it on allowed in the licence?
I wish I could attribute this to someone other than me...
We have a new Dell XPS that came with XP installed. One our techs messed up the installed version of XP (long story). She asked me to reinstall XP with the disk that came with the computer. While doing the install, I accepted the default installation location, which was evidently the "D" drive. Of course, Office and everything else is having fits b/c its looks for default paths on "C".
Is there anyway to move XP to the C Drive without doing a full reinstallation? (please tell me there is)
If I do have to do a full installation to get XP on C, how do I get it off of D?
Can I change the drive letters using the Disk Mgt Option (i.e. change D to C), and is this a good option?
Thanks in Advance!!

Eh, with that much going wrong, might as well wipe the drive and put it all back on the right way, you'll probably just run into little nitpicky things down the road if you don't.
If there's any data on there you need, back it up and wipe it.
Hello, this may be one of the most common sense mistake ever. I am using 8.1 64 bit system , and i stupidly installed windows 8 drivers on my mother board, what will i do? the system 32 seems to be corrupted or not functioning properly, whenever i will install the 8.1 drivers this shows up
also bios is not working properly you please read this thread i posted yesterday system32 and Bios problems
Help! thankyou in advance
The bios loads way before windows loads..
restart your pc and keep tapping F2 or DEL key to enter bios setting..
or you can keep tapping F12 to enter the boot options menu to select, boot from setup media, then re-install OS and correct drivers
Hi everyone,
My computer used to have an HDD running XP. Recently, I got a new HDD and installed Vista 64-bit Home Premium on it. Since it happened a little while ago, I'm not sure quite what happened during the installation. Right now, though the Windows folder and all the program files are on the new drive, I have to have the old drive first in the boot priority, else Vista won't start up. I may have had the old drive first in the boot queue when I installed Vista, but I don't remember.
If I go to the disk manager, the new HDD has (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition) next to it. The old HDD has (System, Active, Primary Partition). So it seems that some basic system files got on the old drive, but everything else is on the new drive.
I would like to eventually format the old drive, but I'm pretty sure that I won't be able to run Vista anymore. Any ideas what happened and how to fix without everyone's favorite cure-all: reformat and reinstall? Is there someway to move whatever system files are on the old drive to the new drive without all sorts of pathing errors?
In case you need it, here are some basic specs:
Windows Vista 64-bit Home Premium, SP1
Old HDD: Maxtor MaXLine Pro 500 7H500F0, 500 GB
New HDD: WD VelociRaptor WD3000GLFS, 300 GB
MB: Asus M3A32-MVP
Thanks in advance for any help.
and welcome to the Forum

I noticed in Control Panel / Programs & Features that about 30 programs have an "Installed On" date of yesterday when they were actually installed ages ago and another 20 or so programs have an "Installed On" date of 10 June when I upgraded to Windows 10. The rest on the dates appear to be correct. this also happens on my laptop I did a clean install on a few months ago so it looks like a bug in Windows. It's actually quite irritating since I like to sort my programs by date just to see if anything has been installed recently without my knowledge.
What's going on and why isn't Windows showing the actual installation dates?
You will probably find that yesterday you had a significant W10 update which has reset the dates on a number of your programs.

I just performed a clean install of win 8.1 (I couldn't take win 10 fonts anymore). All went fine but because I hadn't loaded Dell drivers yet, my wired internet wasn't working. So in order to connect with Dell and download drivers, I connected to my wireless.
No problem -- internet access worked fine and I was able to update all my Dell drivers. This caused my wired internet access to start working. It appears that the system made the wired connection my network (which I wanted) but it is still keeping my wireless router as the network name.
For example, if I display network connections, it shows Wi-Fi none; Wired Ethernet <name of my wireless router>
Is there anyway I can change that name??

Hi all, i have reinstalled the windows XP.
When i try to update the SP2 for the system, mircrosoft told me i am not using a right product key.
Then i follow the instructoin to download a KeyUpdate Tool and i put in the product key which under my notebook, it saids it is not the correct key for the windows that i am using.
At the compare product key site, it shows:
OS Version: Windows XP Professional
Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
Model: Satellite M60
Product Key: *****-*****-*****-*****-P6R2Y
It shows correctly the manufacture and the model.
However, i am using a Windows Xp Home Edition and the key from that CD is end with *****-*****-*****-*****-Q6JWG.
And the product key from my notebook is end up with *****-*****-*****-*****-GCFKM.
Then I download the Windows Product Key Update Tool and put in both the product key from the CD and notebook.
Both of them dosen't work. I want to know how can I update the Service Pack for my windows. Can anyone help? Thx!
What can i do for that? Thx!!!!!
Hi
I have read some threads about similar problems with the OS key and the key changing has always helped?
Sometimes Microsoft rates the image keys as incorrect or invalid. Why? I don't know... it's Microsoft you know ;)
Fact is that the key on the CD cover can be used only to activate the installed Microsoft Works or OneNote software on the notebook. The key is not responsible for the Windows OS!
The key which could be used with Win OS is placed at the bottom of the unit.
Well, according to your message you used this key and now I?m a little bit confused?
I think you should make a call to the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country for clearing this problem?
Hi,
None of my internet browsers including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, mozilla or the new one that comes with Windows 10 will open or load. Also when I click on my Windows start button it does nothing as well as the dialogue next to it that says I'm Cortana ask me anything. I have run Malwarebytes anti-malware and it has identified 0 threats. I have adware antivirus but it won't run. Any help would be appreciated thank you!
Last night I updated windows 8.1 from windows 8.
It got to the stage where it needs to restart so it done that started the configarations and once it reached 100% it restarted.
Since then what happens is when i press power on the samsung logo comes on the screen then the black screen with the windows picture then the bsod comes up for around half a second and it restarts. then it constantly does this.
The whole cycle only takes a few seconds.
Ive tried booting in safe mode but this isnt working so I downloaded kav rescue on another computer and saved it on a flash drive, But it wont boot off this either.
Any ideas?
What does the BSOD state? Most times it is a driver issue with the Display drivers. Other times it is hardware.
3 more repliesHello,
Today I noticed that I could not open my start menu with neither the windows button, ctrl + esc, or a click of the mouse. I've also had a problem the last couple of days saving/opening files in one of the programs I used to make music. I tried to go into safe mode to do system restore, but the safe mode didn't boot. It scrolled all the system files on the screen but then just stopped and nothing happened.
So, I tried the other option (forget what it's called) that lets you perform various other system restoration tasks. I brought up the system restore screen from there, but got an error that said something about corrupt files so it could not perform the restore. I checked again, and all my restore points had been deleted.
Lastly, when I click computer, all the drives are blank with no names beside them, only the icons. I can still click them and they seem to be functioning normally, so I don't know if there is a relation to this. I don't know if some registry files were deleted or if there is some other problem. I didn't notice the start menu/safe mode/blank icon issues until I just recently installed the latest windows update.
Sorry if this seemed a little long winded, but I would appreciate help from anyone.
Thanks,

I got a new p4 3 gig with hyperthreading pc. For a while it was working like a charm, on overdrive. But only after a week of use, I started to have problems. While playing very visually demanding games (Battlefield 1942, Medal Of Honor) I would keep gettin those dreaded blue screen of death thingies. I would get one of 3 errors. One said, "IRQL_NOT_EQUAL_TO_OR_LESS_THAN" another said, "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" although im not quite sure about the NONPAGED part, i know it said non something. And the other one I think I only got once and cant remember exactly what it was, it had something to do with IRQ.
Now on all of them it said it was shutting down my pc to avoid hardware damage. Which it did, I had about 3 seconds to read the screen before my pc shut down. After a while, It got so bad that I would get an error while just browsing the internet with explorer. I tried taking out my vid card and using the on-board video, didnt work. I dont remember if xp stopped starting or not, but I decided I should format my hd to fix the problem. I only have the xp upgrade cd so I had to install win98 first. Win 98 installed fine, except that on the first startup after installation my pc resarted itself and I got the "failed startup, choose an option" thing, I chose normal start up and it worked fine. So then I tried to install xp again. I got to the part where it restarts to install xp from the files copied from cd. During that installtion phase, It said... Read more
Hello, wasn't really sure where to post this but...man.
Side note:this laptop was dropped or stepped on. ill explain in post.
So my buddy asked me to fix his toshiba and i have been having a great time. but sadly cannot get any operating system to load. Here follows the system specs, what ive done so far, and my main errors im receiving.
OS: windows 7 home premium bios version/date tosinv - insydeh20 version 1.50 12/15/09 system type x86 family 6 model 23 stepping 10 Proc: intel(r) core(tm)2 duo cpu t6500 @2.10 ghz MAIN PROBLEM HD: toshiba mk25555gsx
So i started off by using f8 to access windows boot command, would not run command prompt or repair.
So....I pulled out my personal windows 7 home premium disk to see if it would respond better to that repair menu or access the command prompt with the repair tools but everytime right before the installation menu it would hang up, similiar with the f8 command.
shortly after I received an error stating no valid devices are found and it would no longer read my windows 7 installation disk....system retry failed or something..
so I pulled out a box of old crap moved aside a yearbook and found an old windows 98 cd and precided to try cd booting with that which was a success.
so then i was messing with dos and deleted my partitions and fdisk exited right after...woops thought i would be able to recreate those parts....anyways it closed down and was no longer able to read the drive. prompting a> on start haha and a si... Read more
so i go to the toshiba website and they say there is a hidden partition on the drive...maybe im in the wrong forum now....darn lol so i just tried to check this x drive for errors and it says its write protected. usb ports on the laptop are failing...
6 more repliesI had all my files saved on the secondary Western Digital 160GB Sata HDD, it was listed first at the time... But I accidentally deleted the volume on it.. Is there a way to get those files back? I had photos, movies, music, some other important files. The whole reason for having them on that secondary drive was to save them (kicking myself), until I installed Windows 7 on the new 500GB Sata HDD... I got a copy of Paragon Partition Manager 11 Personal ... and going through the Undelete Partition wizard now... Any help? Suggestions? Thanks in advance!
PS. I just did the "delete" option in the Windows 7 installation section for "advanced options", the HDDs were there.. but I accidentally hit delete on the 160GB instead... That's all I did with the drive though.
To try and answer your question; yes and no. You can take the drive and try to have it professionally recovered. There are some companies out there that specifically recover data from these types of situations. This can be very expensive and no guarantee. I know this not what you wanted to here.
I have 3 hdd in my system and have made notations as to the location of each drive and how the OS see's each of them...ie 0 is hard drive 1, 1 is hard drive 2 and 2 is hard drive 3, which is the way I have mine installed in the hdd cage...I know that hdd 0 is the 1TB drive and hdd 1 and 2 are 320 GB for backups and data storage. Keeping in mind each drive letter that the OS assigns to each of them. So when a re-install of the OS comes along I know what hdd is what and where.
I bought a Toshiba Satellite A200. During the starting I made a fault.
First screen I choosed French. Second screen I would choose french again, but as it is my first notebook I am not used to the touchpad, I made an error and the starting was made in german.Actually on the screen :
Land/Region Deutschland
Zeit und Wahrung Deutsch
Tastaturlayout Deutsch
Is there a possibility to stop the starting and begin all again in french ?
I don't understand german and everything must be in french.
Thank you for help
Hi there,
you can do the following things:
1. Recover the machine and repeat the procedure, but this time do it RIGHT and choose french.
2. You can go to start -> systemsteuerung -> (something with "Regions- und Sprachoptionen") -> there you should be able to exchange the languages but I am not sure how to do it, because I have just Vista on english.
Good luck

I currently have Java 8, update 25 (64bit). If I go to the Java website and want to verify java, nothing happens. When I want to print a coupon the coupon website (SmartSource) tells me "Java not installed" even though I meet the criteria for their "supported version" of the browser (IE10) and the operating system : Windows 7. I checked the Java control panel and it is enabled in the browser and the "allow scripting" is also on. This all happened fairly recently and I don't know why. I have uninstalled Java 8 update 25 (64 bit) and downloaded the offline version for a fresh start. It installed properly and it shows in my programs and features of windows. Still problematic. Any ideas?Thank you!message edited by geekiamnot
Looks like they've changed their minds recently, only a short while back it said that 8.25 was for developers and my 7.71 still says it is up to date. I suspect it makes little difference then - they are both dated Oct 2014. When it was working do you remember what version you had?If there are still old versions around they might cause issues but the Java uninstall Tool still requires you to verify so I doubt this will work either:https://www.java.com/en/download/un...I assume the IE10 you are using is the 64 bit version. Any reason why you prefer not to go for IE11 - just wondering if that might fix it?There are some general tips here:http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/10...Interesting that they say the 32 bit version gives fewer issues - maybe it is worth a shot.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanksmessage edited by Derek
14 more repliesI would be so grateful if someone could help with this basically I was trying to install drivers in win7 different to the ones windows wanted to install and to do so I read a thread on changing something in a policy I had to run a command which I now can't remember and need to change it back.
it was in gpedit.msc and the command read something like enable blocking windows automatic driver installation.
I have since found I could have done this simply in system... Bit late now huh
If anyone understands this vague description of what I've done.. Please let me know.
or if there is a way to set defaults back
cheers.
Hi, i use a home made pc and running win xp pro with sp2. I recently upgraded my hard drive with a 200gb one as the previous one i had was to small. After installation the bios see the drive as 200gb but windows sees it as only 127gb. The drive has only one partition and was formatted using the ntfs. Is there any way i could get windows to see the drive at its correct size so i could utilize the unused space?
Visit the hard drive manufacturer's website. Most, if not all, of them have info on their sites about hard drive size limitation issues and how to overcome that.
3 more repliesguys,
my computer wont boot and still it wont display.
i already changed a video card and stil it wont.
it have no beep at all and it will not display.
what should i do?
does it beep any. if not this will indicate more major problems. (unless you dont have beep speaker installed) a mother board is programed with a set of beep to play if there is a problem like such as three beeps if the ram is not working, 1 long beep if the vid card is not working etc etc. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOUR BEEPs WILL BE. if you are not getting these then you need to find out why. see if you have a speaker inside your case. if you do and all of your fans spin but still no action from you pc then you may have a larger problem such as mother board or processor.
Hi,
I have a new pc and I installed windows 10 64 bit, it went well but there were a few thing I wasn't sure about, one being that the time was wrong and would not correct itself
In the end I decided to reinstall windows as it was very quick the first time, when I got to the part about which drive /partition to install to there was drive 0 and drive 1, I have 2 drives: an m.2 ssd and a sata HDD, the m.2 ssd is the system drive. It was cut up into about 4 partitions I think so I just deleted them all and then tried to proceed, windows wouldn't let me install and after searching online for solutions I unplugged the other HDD and windows let me install on to the ssd (I don't understand this because there was no problem having the other drive installed before).
there are 2 things I would appreciate some advice with:
1: The time is still wrong and I don't know why
2: I now have a clean installation of windows 10 64bit again, in disk management it shows 1 partition for my system drive, I expected there to be multiple partitions like before, is this right that there is only one?
Thank you
If you post a screen shot of disk management then we'll tell you why.

Follow these steps to fix a Blue Screen in Safe Mode
* Once booting start, select "Safe Mode" from the boot menu.
* Scan your hard drive by running your antivirus software. If the program locates an infection, move it to your vault or follow the on-screen instructions. After program completation, if a virus was removed, attempt to reboot your computer and see if this clears up the problem. If not, restart your computer in safe mode.
* Restore your computer to a previous point. Click on the "Start" button. Select "All Programs", "Accessories", "System Tools" and finally "System Restore". Choose a restore point on or before the last day your computer worked without error. Finally Reboot your computer to see if it loads correctly.
Hello,
I have a Satellite Pro P300-1BD
On the first start, when we install Vista (OEM Business), we do an error, and we choose the bad language (nederlands, and we would french)
How is it possible to correct that ?
I tried to make a recovery dvd, but this dvd only propose Nederland language to restore.
I tried to boot on the HDD recovery, but when I press F8 on start, the recovery process don't start
Thx
Hi

I assume this is not possible anymore.
As far as I know the other languages are locked or deleted and you will be able to chose only the Dutch as language.
If you need the recovery disk in French then you will have to order it from this page:
https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
Bye
The operatin system is in English. Yet. all installation of Lenovo drivers is done in German with offering an option to select the proper language. How do I install the Lenovo software in English (or in another language for that matter)?
More repliesdears , i have Toshiba Satellite C50-a394 and when i installed windows 7 64 bit it shows me that the manufactrer is Panasonic not TOSHIBA so why ?
thanks and best regards
Sorry but we don't know what have you done exactly and on which place you see other manufacturer name.
Where you can see this with Panasonic?
Have you installed Win7 using original Microsoft installation disc?
Do you use drivers from Toshiba support page?

Hi,
It's difficult to say exactly what it is without a set of logs. You've also been accessing the BIOS according to your other threads. Did you make any changes in there?
See if you can boot into Safe Mode and run the tools as outlined in our sticky topic New Instructions - Read This Before Posting for Malware Removal Help and post the requested logs in your next reply.
Download the tools from another computer and transfer them to this computer if you have to.
I just installed a Epson WF-4630 yesterday using my Dell laptop and today I have a pop up that won't go away after I removed the software CD.
The pop up says the wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume WF-4630 into drive D.
I'm not sure why I would need to keep the software CD in the laptop since I thought I completed everything I needed to regarding that. Anyway, I put it back in just to see if it would make it go away and the pop up will not go away no matter what I try. I have restarted it and that hasn't worked either. Is this possibly a virus or something else?
So after updating to the anniversary edition I cannot load the OS. I have downloaded a couple of different versions of windows 10 and burned them to dvd and usb. Tried to repair and re-install even, but can't even do that! I cannot fix the problem. I have it installed on an ssd, been installed for over a year without any problems. Any Ideas? I am using a bootable usb with windows PESEX64 to type this up. Tried using the various tools in this to no avail. I can see the partitions and they seem healthy...what gives? please help!
On another pc, install Macrium Reflect Free and create a Rescue drive.
Boot from Rescue Drive and select restore tab.
Click on fix "windows boot problems"
It should list windows 10. If so click next, finish and with luck PC will now boot.
I burned the ISO following directions online and used imgburn. After then trying to boot from the cd, i get the message "NTLDR is missing, unable to boot from CD". I tried buring the ISO twice, using two different programs, and thats the message I get each time. Any ideas?
I have a dell xps 420, a nvidia 8800 video card, 2 hard drives, etc...
When i turn the power on, all the fans star working, but the video card fan works really really loud and the system doesnt boot. hard drives dont turn on, blank screen. I reseated the memory, the video card, the cpu, unplugged everything and did everythinh people have told me to try.
I also tested the video card in a different computer and it worked, so the video card works fine. the psu also works. looks like we are left with the motherboard to blame.
heres what happened next. last night i turned the pc on and it booted up and worked for a while. worked like new, everything was perfect than it just turned off and the same thing is happening now. the video card fan is spining at a high speed and nothing is booting up.
In other words, the system booted last night and worked for a good 8 hours and than shut off, that means all the hardware works. so what can the problem be?
some people say the psu is underpowered so i unplugged the hard drives, the cd drives and the same thing is happening. could it be in the bios? bios software? its a dell so i cant flash it.
any suggestions on what i can do? back when i had the warranty, dell didnt help me, they are worthless. i only spent hours over the phone and the problem was never fixed.
the old problem was, when i turned the power on, the video card fan made a loud noise, but unplugging it and than powering it back n eventually got it working. im guessin... Read more

ok so i was looking around in my uncles computers motherboard for something to plug in a fan i was about to put in it, i pulled something or attempted to pull this black object out. after failing i decided to quit while i was ahead so i didnt break it. too late. i tried to turn on the computer but it wudnt turn on. so i opened the case and i messed around with the little black plug looking thing. after a bit it turned on but the screen never did. after attempting to turn it on a few more time with the screen working it just all together stopped turning on. any idea on what happened and what i need to do to fix it? here the picture of the thing

I inadvertantly made a partition on my non-o/s secondary HDD "active" when I was trying to resize it. Now XP doesn't boot of course.
What should I do?
Were you using Partition Magic? If you, you should be able to create a PM boot floppy, and use it's DOS style interface to reactivate the OS partition.
1 more repliesit wont power on at all any suggestions?and now it is saying i need to have at least 100 characters in this box or it wont let me send it!!!
If you mean that you had the wrong voltage selected at the back of the computer(240/110V)...there is not much we can do to help.Your power supply is severely damaged. At the very least that will need to be replaced, assuming that it has not fried the other components in your computer. If you post details about your computer (Make, model) and any other details you might know (CPU, Graphics card, number of hard drives) we can try and suggest a replacement power unit. However without physical diagnostic tools we can't determine how much of the computer is damaged.
5 more repliesI ordered a RAM upragde using the Motherboard selector thing on crucial.com and found my motherboard a ASUS AN766-C (or something like that , it's a n-force board). On the site it said I could have 2100 and 2700 types of DDR RAM. I ordered 2700 without realising that the one in my Mobo was 2100.I put the new RAM into the second RAM slot but the computer didn't reconise it. So to test that the RAM does work I took the origanal RAM out and put the new RAM in the first slot. The comptuer didn't start up.Well the moniter doesn't flick on but there is Hard Drive activity. After taking that RAM out and putting the old RAM back in again, I have hit another problem. The moniter still wont flick on.Do you think putting the 2700 RAM in the slot caused like a confliction between the board? Before I went to Crucial and did the online configurater I thought the mobo could only take 2100 DDR RAM, but as Crucial said I could I thought what the hell and got it.Also looking in the motherboard it has NO mention of 2700. What can I do now?As I currently have a computer that doesn't work!Would I have to buy a new Motherboard? All advice welcome.

But the computer still would not boot it goes to a screen that says start in safe mode start w command prompt or start w networking or last known funtioning point. none of these choices do anything. I dont know what to do can someone please help.
You need to reload Windows. You can safely reload Windows without losing any data. First you'll have to create an F6 floppy disk for the SATA drivers. Visit this link:
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=SK8V&SLanguage=en-us
Click the 'Drivers' tab and scroll to the last one. This is the 'Make Disk' driver. It will create a floppy disk. Boot to your XP install CD, when the first blue screen with the white bar at the bottom comes up, it will say "Press F6 for third party RAID or SCSI driver..." and you'll need to press F6. At some point you'll be prompted to put the floppy in the drive and it will load the drivers for your SATA drive. You will perform a safe reload of Windows. DO NOT FORMAT!!! Formatting will erase everything. After you install the F6 floppy drivers, you can follow this guide to do a repair install of XP:
http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/How-to-repair-Windows-XP-t138.html
It's very easy to follow and is complete with screen shots.... if you don't have a floppy drive, get one. Borrow it, or buy it (they're only like $10), or even use an external USB floppy (much more expensive at over $30; not all PCs support USB floppies in XP setup). If you don't have an XP disc, I'm not sure there's much you can do....
Using a hard drive from another PC to try to boot your PC will not work. XP has a way of 'bonding' to the hardware in a PC. If you change all that hardw... Read more

1-Display switch is set incorrectly
2-CMOS checksum error
3-Override enabled
4-Keyboard error or no keyboard

After listing all this it says press F1 to continue or DEL to enter setup. When i enter setup since i flashed the mobo the date was reset when i try correct the date the area where it shows which day it is flickers quickly between tues and wed and when i try to input 2007 it goes to 2056. I removed every hardware piece by piece and rebuilt the whole bloody thing I cant tell whats wrong is it my CPU, Mobo, Harddrive or powersupply all these parts are brand new and been working fine for sometime now.

When I go to turn it on it sounds like the hard drive attempts to spin. I don't hear the fans, but all the lights come on. The battery is fairly new and everything is plugged in properly.
All this began when I was running Macromedia Dreamweaver MX and it locked up forcing me to shut down.
Any ideas?
I am so frustrated! emachine only 10 mnths old. when starting gets to the welcome screen and reboots. have run all the scans and system restore - gives me an error System Restore ox8000ffff now it wont even start in safe mode! also had the error Startup Repair offline should I just shoot it!
Do you notice if the screen flashes a quick blue before it restarts? If it does, go back to the Safe Mode menu and select instead Disable automatic restart on system failure. The computer will try then to boot normally. If booting should fail and 'bluescreen', the PC will display it instead of rebooting. If possible, take a picture of it and insert it into your next reply. Otherwise, type in what it says.
8 more repliesAfter only just having one problem solved on here I have encountered another and I think it is fairly problematic but am far from understanding it - please help!!!
I downloaded the new version of Internet Explorer (version 8) as this was an option when I signed onto the web this afternoon (I previously had IE 7 and am running Windows XP version 2).
But after downloading this I had trouble getting onto the net (though I seemed to be able to initially). So I restarted the PC. But, it did not restart.
Instead I get the following message on a plain black screen when I try to run my computer:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.
What is this file? I have an Acer Aspire notebook which came installed with Windows XP Version 2 (I have no CD drive currently).
I have looked on the microsoft website (I am currently on a different PC) but dont understand anything that is posted on their about this problem.
Do I need to re-install a new operating system? Will this mean I will loose all my data that is on my computer? This is very precious to me as I am travelling and I have saved on my computer photos and diary entries - I would be very upset to loose them.
What is my best course of action? Should I take it to a specialist. Again I really hope I can prevent the information that I did have saved on there from being deleted.
Thankyou to anyone who can assist.

Have you attempted to install it again? If not, I would try that first. It may have just been a bad install. If it fails a second time, download memtest86 and test your RAM. Also, download your hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic disc and check the health of the hard disk.Try those three things. Install again, test memory, test hard disk. If it still has issues we'll go from there.
2 more repliesI hope it's kosher to post a link to another post I made in the XP forum (I'm only doing this because someone suggested I do). I dont think I have a virus/malware problem, but maybe someone here will recognize it.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/top...tml#entry844517ThanksUPDATE: I just finished running the a-squared command malware tool and all that it came up with was 19 cookies.
Please try using this to repair the broken registry entry that may be causing this.Download Autoruns, search for the related entry and then delete it.Create a new folder on your hard drive called AutoRuns (C:\AutoRuns) and extract (unzip) the file there. (click HERE if you're not sure how to do this.)Open the folder and double-click on autoruns.exe to launch it.Please be patient as it scans and populates the entries. When done scanning, it will say Ready at the bottom.Scroll through the list and look for a startup entry related to the file(s) in the error message.Right-click on the entry and choose delete.Reboot your computer and see if the startup error returns.
4 more repliesHello,
_sometimes_ my sattelite A660-10x (PSAW3E) wont start.
I turn it on, you hear the fan coming up, on screen you see blinking cursor on left top screen, than it sort of jumps more to left and top more into corner and stops. Nothing happens, after a while i turn off the laptop.
If i do this 3-5 times eventually it starts. Sometimes it starts on first attempt.
What i tried:
Reinstalling the PC from disc partition with Win7
Taking out HDD into my desktop PC and running CHKDSC with scanning and repairing errors.
Cleaning up the whole PC from dust, fans etc.
Pulling out/in battery/AC
Memory check (RAM)
Processor power management change the minimum processor state from 5% to 100%
I understand PC well but so far have no idea what can cause this. The only thing what comes to mind is that the partition at start of the disc has errors which i cant reach since there is boot partition, original-installation partition, and the rest which is the only one i cant reach with CHKDSC.
What i heard that someone tried is changing the Motherboard battery (the small round one), can it be it?
It doesnt seem to be disc or LCD problem, nor RAM memory.
> I turn it on, you hear the fan coming up, on screen you see blinking cursor on left top screen, than it sort of jumps more to left and top more into corner and stops. Nothing happens, after a while i turn off the laptop.
Flashing cursor in the left upper corner is a known sign and could be related to faulty HDD or RAM memory problems.
Memory check could be performed and from my experience such memory checks provide approximately correct results. But even if the memory check would not find any RAM problems, it could be still an RAM related issue.
Of course, I cannot say for sure, if its RAM related issue or maybe its related to another faulty part.
Fact is that such issue is caused by hardware problems and in worst case the motherboard would need to be replaced.
Windows8 Pro laptop wont start and just cycles on and off every few seconds. Removed battery and AC and held power button for 30 seconds, replace AC and battery with same results. Never boots long enough to get any screen info. Ideas?
More repliesHey guys.
So I live in Ireland and when installing Windows 8, I set some language choices to Irish (keyboard and date/time), but language to English UK. In previous installations of Windows, such as Windows 7, this did not make apps show up with Irish language titles.
After removing Ireland from the Language options > Control Panel - Language, some apps went back to displaying in English. But other Modern UI apps, like the news still show up in Irish titles.
Have I missed a setting of some sort? I have attached a screenshot of my language options, just in-case i'm missing something.
PS: I have already rebooted a few times since changing these options.
Thanks!
EDIT: Fixed. The latest batch of Windows updates seems to have kicked it back into English. Thanks anyway!

My SP A60 is refusing to start up.
It was working fine when a blue screen came up, with random lines streaming down the screen, matrix style, and then it shut down. When I try to turn it on, the 'In touch with tomorrow' screen comes on, but the images and text are...sort of distorted, pixelated, and I know it is not a flaw with the monitor.
A second or so later, the screen comes up asking me if I want to start in...'Safe Mode' 'Safe Mode with Networking' 'Last Know Configuration..' etc. No matter which option I choose, the screen merely blanks out for a few seconds, then returns to the distorted 'In touch with tomorrow' screen, and it all starts over again.
I have tried removing the battery, but to no avail...I thought that always worked with electronics!
I've got all important files backed up on a USB stick, so solutions that involve loosing the data are fine.
Thanks!
Hello
How you know it is not flaw with monitor? Have you tried to test it with external monitor?
Anyway, if you can not start your notebook choosing ?safe mode? the best solution for me is to make ?clean? OS installation. Your important files are backed up and you must not be worried about loosing important info.
hello mates i'm having a problem with my PC last month we were having a sudden power out problem in my place which i believe the cause of making my PC sudden shutdown, restart and sometimes it wont even boot and heres the method that i already tried
1.i changed my PSU with CoolMaster 800 watt , which i believing that my PSU is dying but its not
2.charged the thermal paste of my CPU/GPU with OCZ Freezer, i noticed my both CPU/GPU thermal paste was old
3.cleaned up everything else, the RAM,Motherboard,CPU/GPU fan/heatsink
4.restore default the BIOS settings
5.test out my HDD's to another computer (both are very fine no problems at all)
6.test out my GPU to another computer (its fine as normal)
....and yet these things still didn't fix my problem when i bootup my PC there's a odd message saying that "CPU overclock error" or something similar however i didn't even overclock my CPU before like i did restoring the BIOS to normal setting didn't help me, or maybe there's a problem with my old UPS? maybe the CPU or Motherboard? oh man i don't know i just run out of idea on which is the culprit of these problem..thanks in advance guys i appreciate it
by the way my this is my specs:
CPU: Intel E7500 2.93 (not oc)
Mobo: Asus P5KPL-AM
RAM: 2x of 2GB Kingston 800PCS
PSU: CoolMaster 800w
GPU: Geforce GTX550

39 more repliesI just separated from my wife, left my development machine behind, and have my laptop which the kids used. It now will not open several programs, including users in the control panel, google chrome, and others, when I click on links, most of the time it goes to different windows, I have ran malwarebytes, azerias, registry mechanic, and even went to reinstall windows at the i362 file, but it isn't there to reinstall from, (I don't have a cd player on this), I have 4 websites to get finished by monday, or I won't have money to pay for a place to live, and it is cold outside!

Hi and Welcome to BleepingComputer,
I do not know how to help you with the problems you are having with the computer right now but there is one problem I might be able to help with. You have posted logs in the HijackThis section of the forum and if you want to continue there, you really cannot get help in this section. That would not be a problem for the most part except you seem to be in a hurry for help and help in the HijackThis forum could be a couple of weeks away as they are really backlogged.
Also, if the file you have attached in this thread is a HijackThis log, you should remove it as they are not allowed in this section of the forum. The only place they are allowed is in the HijackThis section of the forum. You can do that by clicking on the edit button on the bottom of your post and just remove the attachment. Anyway, I think you can remove the attachment that way, if not, let us know and someone can help you with that. I am not sure if you can remove attachments as I have never put an attachment in a post.
If you want to continue in this section of the forum, I suggest that you request your other topics be closed so you can continue here. It is up to you, of course, which way you want to go, but until you take care of the above problems, you really cannot get help in this section.
I am sure people would love to help you, but the posts in the HijackThis section have tied our hands. If the scans you ran for malware turned up infections and you feel you are s... Read more
My comp has been having some system issues, so today i decided to do a repair, everything went smoothly until it asked me for the ethernet drivers (network bus emulator) on my ASUS m2n4-SLI motherboard. I dont have the disk handy so i downloaded a copy of the AMD nforce4 drivers from nvidia and copied them to a flash drive which i then stuck into my comp and used to install the drivers, but after i clicked yes, the computer simply restarted, now when i start windows all that happens is halfway through the startup screen it restarts. WHAT AM I TO DO!

I recently updated my 4 year old acer laptop to win10. I have a calender program called "windates" I placed a short cut in the system startup folder but the program does not start when I boot up my laptop. I did put a short cut on the desktop which works fine. Everything else has been working fine with win10.
Anyone have any suggestions how to get this to work? Thanks
you could also try uninstall and reinstalling the program. Or, you can also go to task scheduler and set it to load whenever you log into windows.
3 more repliesHi, using windows 7, have a blue screen at start up issue, memory dump. Sadly the PC wont start so unable to try too much, it lets you select user, attempts to ,log onto the user then just goes to mthe blue screen and starts the cycle again. Any ideas?? It will not start in safe mode either, basically the same result although sometimes it loads and you are in but when you try to do anything it goes to the blue screen again. I did get the error code (not always the same on the blue screen but this one comes up most time), "driver IRQL not less or equal"
Many thanks

14 more repliesI posted this in the hardware section because i know its gotta be hardware related. On one of my older computers, which is a HP(bought in 2002), wont start at all. Not even the Compaq logo will display, which means BIOS wont start either. so i cant boot at all, or operate the computer in anyway. This happened right after i installed a gig of RAM, i was upgrading from 512 mb to 1 gig, they were 2 different cards, 512 each, and both had 189 pins. I installed them, booted up and nothing.
I really dint think there is a solution for this though, because after that, i put the 512 RAM back in and it still didnt work. Im thinking the motherboard was fried, by static electricity maybe. if thats the case than ill just get a new computer. which leads me to my next question.
How do i access my Harddrive? I have a lot of valuable data on there and an expensive music collection, as well as a bounch of backed up movies.
Any help is really appreciated guys, thanks in advance.
I am experiencing the following very strange intermittent problems and evil behavior in XP.
My Start Menu sometimes only appears for a split second when clicked and will not stay displayed. Also minimised apps. wont maximise and apps. and short cuts on the desktop wont launch when double left clicked and instead show properties as if they were right clicked!!
I have done the following to try and resolve these issues.
1. Updated from SP1 to SP 2 as well as all the security updates.
2. Ran Adaware and Spybot to find any unwelcome visitors. Adaware only found one minor issue.
3. Ran Symantec Antivirus which found and quarantined several viruses.
4. Ran WinDoctor which found and said it resolved quite a few issues.
This is really a pain as it makes the system virtually unusable except for when it is behaving which is rare.
Would be grateful for any suggestions, solutions, incantations or workarounds for this issue/s
Kind regards

Hi binaryboy, Welcome to TSG!!
Please post a HJT log for us to review.
Click here to download HJTsetup.exe: http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTSetup.exe
Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
