Preferred Solution: Outlook not accepting my login

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I decided to change my passwords tonight for all three on my email accounts- to something more complex. I changed them all to the same password. I have 2 charter email accounts (end with @charter.net- which is my ISP) and an @gmail.com account

I know the password is correct, but it will not accept it, after I input it, it will just pop up the box again asking for it.

Answer:Outlook express 6 not accepting password

Well, I managed to get my gmail account up and running. I reset the password for it on gmail's web site.

As for the 2 charter accounts. I'm not sure about them. I changed the passwords under tools>accounts. And they worked fine previously for the old passwords I had. But, not for the new password I put it.

I had thought perhaps that changing it under tools>accounts wouldn't really work, because the passwords are stored on mail.charter.net, but if this is the case, why was it accepting the old passwords before I changed it tonight (which were stored under tools>accounts) if they weren't what charter has for the correct passwords? I tried putting in the old passwords, doesn't seem to be working.

I use gmail quite a bit. I had it working fine with outlook 2013 until I tried to add another gmail account to outlook. Hi, hoping to get some help.

My friend sent me an invite to her outlook calendar. The calendar is owned by her but when she sends an invite to my @live.com email. I recieve an email with a few upcoming events and an 'accept' or 'decline' invite. When I click accept it loads but it takes me to my own calendar, with no sign of my friends calendar.

There is a link in the email which it says I can copy and paste into my browser if I'm having trouble with the accept button, but I get the exact same results. I've tried accepting on my phone rather than on my mac, and we've tried sending new invites. But it all gives the same results.

Not sure how much more info I can give. Hoping for something silly that I've missed here.

Hi,

In outlook 2002 (sp3) if you try to accept a meeting whilst your inbox is full you get a message with only an "ok" button. after you click "ok", the meeting request is deleted and the original message is lost. Is this a flaw?

does anyone have a workaround?

Thanks,

note: outlook 2002 is running on exchange 2000.

My Outlook Express Inbox stopped accepting new e-mails on May 17, but it is currently holding over 6000 e-mails that are either repeats or spam. Some of these e-mails are repeated at least 10 times. I tried deleting these e-mails but they just come back. I logged on webmail.cablelynx.com and got a list of about 500 current e-mails that have not shown up in my inbox. I get several pop-up messages about errors in POP3, unable to access my inbox. Also, I get a pop-up saying "CA Common Tray is trying to access the internet. Application: C/program Filed\CA\C...\CC Tray Exec. Address: 69.18.\48.62 Port 80. Have I been hit by a virus? At the time this all started, I had CA Internet Security Suite active on my computer. I have now disconnected it because I thought it might be causing the trouble. I am still quite illiterate about computors and may not have given enough info. Please advise.

Answer:Outlook Express Not Accepting Or Deleting E-mails

Have you deleted the mails using your providers webmail interface? While it is possible that you are receiving a lot of the same spam, it's also possible thatthere could be a message on the server with a corrupted header. A corrupt header cannot be processed by your email client and will stop messages received after it from downloading. You'll have to go to webmail and start deleting. After you've deleted in webmail, open up OE and see if it downloads what is left.If not, please copy then paste here any error messages you get from OE. Your statement about disconnecting CA concerns me. Either enable it OR uninstall it and reinstall another firewall and antivirus program. Without them, you are leaving your system wide open to attacks and viruses. If you don't want to continue using CA, there are some good free products you can install. You'll find a list of them here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic3616.htmlcctray.exe is a tray icon for Computer Associates Security Center interface. However, you stated you get CA Common Tray is trying to access the internet. Application: C/program Filed\CA\C...\CC Tray Exec. Are you sure that's what it said? I don't know anything about CA, so I can't help you with that issue. I posted the difference between the 2 names so it won't get missed by others who can help you.

Go through these steps and enable the Auto-accept.
Close Outlook.
Then relaunch and then disable the Auto-accept.

1] On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click Calendar Options.
2] Under Advanced options, click Resource Scheduling.

I'm trying to figure out why my 2003 outlook is not loading. It sometimes will attempt to load and when it does the outlook opening window will appear for maybe 10 sec. and then it just goes away.I have repaired my windowow prof office soft ware, I have repaired using the detect and repair for each office component, I have run the repair utility with outlook 2003 with some files being repaired, but nothing I have been able to find will open the program so I can actually see the emails. I have scanned the registry and repaired the registry with Uniblue Registry Booster and it always finds errors to fix, but I have never had a program that would not open before. All the rest of the Prof Office components work like word, excel, pub, access, etc. The reason that I know that emails are still being recieved is that the screen has a square that gives me a clue who is sending a new email when it comes in and it is still working. After the research that I have done, it appears to me that a file is missing, but I am not getting any error messages to gives me a clue as to what to look for. And I have no email, so if this forum is tied to my non working current email, I won't get it there. I need to have a response to XXXXXXXXXXX(Moderator edit: post moved to more appropriate forum and E-mail address removed to prevent its being harvested by spambots.jgw)

Answer:Outlook 2003 not loading to scrren but still accepting mail

The fact that you are using a registry cleaner / fixer is almost certainly the cause of some of your problems. Depending on which OS you are using I suggest a repair installation if possible and NEVER use registry cleaners - the cause problems, they do not fix them.

I wrote a Code in JavaScript, which takes the data from a Perticular column in a table created in HTML and directly connects it to a Meassage Box of a OutLook.

In Messsage box the data which I had in a perticular column will attach.

It is working prperly if the data length is upto 1000 characters, If the column(cells) consists more than 1000 characters the message Box doesn't opens up.

Is it a Oulook Express or Out Looks limitation or is there any other solution.

Alright, here are the facts:

1. When I start up my machine, the windows login screen tells me that I have (1) message in my Outlook 2007 - I have it set up through google.com, so my Outlook address is a gmail.com address. Yet when I open my Outlook, I don't see anything. Some messages come through, every time I restart, the screen tells me I have a message in there.

2. I had the Outlook 2007 set where when I open it up it asks for a password, and when I send something out, it asks for a password. All of a sudden, it doesn't do this anymore, no matter how many times I restart the computer, or close and open Outlook. I even attempted to use the repair feature in Outlook, but it worked to no avail. What is going on? My business depends on me being to secure my email accounts, and receive important emails - I can't afford to miss a really important one.

3. I also have this software called ComboFix that I've been hearing about which is supposed to be really good, but I didn't run it because I don't have anyone to guide me through any of the results, plus I heard it could possibly mess up my machine. I would like to run it if it will cure my machine and make my life easier.

**My machine is Windows XP.... Please can someone help me? It is greatly appreciated.

Greetings -

I have a maddening problem going on with a client's copy of Outlook 2003. She thinks it started when I got AVG, which somebody else installed, finally working (before I came automatic updates were broken due to an occasional Vista AVG installation problem). But she's not sure. The problem is that a few senders' emails show up as plain text, not HTML. Most HTML emails show up fine, including all that I and other people in her office send (as in everything I can troubleshoot myself). She thinks all the emails showing up as plain text are coming from macs. And she has an HTML signature that she wants to show up as HTML, and of course you can't force Outlook to use HTML to respond to plain text emails.

I uninstalled AVG and installed Avast today - same problem. Outlook is reading emails in Word 2003, all addins are disabled (including Avast at this point). Every link I find mentions AVG, but I uninstalled and made sure to remove all user settings and other stuff. So unless Avast causes the exact same problem, this is very annoying.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You said: "of course you can't force Outlook to use HTML to respond to plain text emails"

Really?
Here's how I do it in Outlook2003.
Click Reply.
Click Format.
Select HTML.
Type the message and send. It works every time.

Could it be that somewhere, in AV perhaps, you have a setting to prohibit HTML?
There are many good reasons to keep HTML out of mail, so that could be it.

You mentioned something about reading mails in Word. I read'm in Outlook, but Word could be behind the scenes, I don't recall.

I am a system engineer in a company, and I have a colleague who was unable to login to Windows, Outlook and a few other applications after his domain password expired.

He logged a call with our helpdesk to reset his domain password. After the password reset, he could login to Windows, but could not login to Outlook 2010.
By right, after a domain password reset, users should not only be able to login to Windows, but use the same password to login to Microsoft Outlook.

What could be the problem, and how can his login problem be resolved?

Answer:Outlook login problem

Are you using AD & SSO? If so, what's your procedure for reseting the password? If only done using AD password reset it might not change the Outlook / Exchange password so Outlook is trying to get logged in to mail server using an expired password.

Hi all,
I am trying to configure MS Outlook to have two different accounts, using a single XP login.

My wife & I are using a single login to XP, but would like to have the MS Outlook have two different accounts so that we could read our two different internet email accounts held with AT&T.

Is this possible? I can register two different acounts, but they wind up using the same .pst file (even though I've tried to rename the folder and use her's and mine independantly). When either of us tries to login to Outlook, the same email is show, then after that, prompts us for our login info, but still showing the same mail.

How to fix this?

Thanks,
Gary

We have an Exchange Server for our office's email and it supports logging in remotely over the web; however, one of the users is unable to do so, but only from his computer. I have used his user name and password to get into his account from my computer at home and have had no problems. I also have no problems getting into my own account and as far as I know, several other people are having no problems either.

I use Earthlink DSL for my home connection and he uses AOL Dial Up.

We have a sonicwall firewall on the server, which is connected with a local DSL company, but the logs do not seem to indicate that the firewall blocked the login. I have looked for password files on the computer to see if the password was stored incorrectly somewhere and could delete it, but couldn't find any.

The weirdest thing is that he can login sometimes. Maybe once a day he can login and get his email, but nine times out of ten he receives a blank page with "Error: Access Denied" in the top left hand corner. I'm at my wit's end trying to determine what little factor could be preventing him from logging in, but I can't seem to determine it.

Please post with any questions and/or ideas as I'm at a complete loss.

Hi Traveller11, I assume that your using the Outlook that comes with Office, right? If so then your regular gmail password will not work. You will need to sign into your Gmail account and generate an "app specific" password to use with Outlook. That's how Gmail works with the IMAP protocol in Outlook. Gmail has a help page that will show you how to do this. The app specific password is buried on one of the pages in your account setup. I had a hard time finding it. The good news is that you only need to do it once. Be sure you record the password in case you ever need to set up Outlook again.

Is it possible to use a non-login email in the Mail app?

I login to Windows using my personal Outlook/Microsoft account. I'd like to use my blog's Outlook address in the Mail app, so I don't need to use the web interface when replying to emails.

Is this possible without messing up my login account?

(I REALLY need to get a book on Windows 10. LOL)

Answer:Using non-login Outlook account in Mail?

Of course. It works with all kind of email accounts.
I have outlook, hotmail, gmail and businesses accounts in Email app. You can also set it up to get them all in one inbox.

It is pretty straightforward, just click to add email, but if you'll need any help we will be here.

Edit: You can find tutorials by Brink here.

Hi - my first time so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can even log a question, never mind get an answer! Anyway, here goes:

I am running an Asus Eee PC 1.66ghz 1.99 gb RAMIntel Atom

Asus runs XP Home Edition V2002 Service pack 3

I loaded MS/Office 2007 Student edition: I de-selected Outlook Express as I didn't want/need it, but ever since then whenever I switch on the PC I get the following message: "Outlook Express could not be started. The application was unable to open the Outlook Express store. Your computer may be out of memory (it isn't!) or your disk is full (it isn't!)"

When I reply OK to this message I get a follow on message "To free up disk space Outlook Express can compact messages, this may take a few minutes". I respond OK to this and get a Windows message ?Windoes search system tray has encountered a problem and needs to close". After responding to this message the problem seems to clear and I can continue using the PC with no further messages or issues.

If anyone could help please to get rid of these irksome messages it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Mike Marenghi

Answer:Outlook Express tries to launch on login

At what point in the install did you de-select Outlook Express? Outlook Express is incorporated into the OS, and Microsoft Outlook does not come with MS/Office 2007 Student edition. Have you looked into the System Configuration Utility? In there you can chose which programs to start in the Start up tab.

OE now carries on down-loading the messages into my in-box in the normal way. What is going on ?

Answer:Outlook Express not recognising login

If you are absolutely sure that the username and password are right, perhaps you have the wrong server name.

Hi all! New to this forum. Just received a new computer and using Outlook Express 6 with two different
identities. Did not have this issue on old computer.
When starting up computer, the identity login window starts up in a pop up window automatically. I have removed this from the start menu, I went to msconfig. I unchecked the start up option in OE and in Windows messenger. It still pops up. Is there a fix for this?
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Outlook Express Identity Login

joeg59,

You're likely being asked to pick a Profile. In Outlook and Outlook Express, you can set up multiple profiles for different users, email accounts, etc.

To alter this, open Control Panel, Click on mail, Click on "Show Profiles" - this will show you the two "identities" you speak of. You can pick one as default and opt to "Always use this Profile".

Hope this helps.

Approximately 2 to 3 minutes after my computer is fully booted up I get a popup window that asks me to log in to my Outlook Express mail client. I am using two separate identities of which one is password protected so when I intentionally launch Outlook Express it askes me to log in. This is normal. What I don't understand is why this window pops up without my taking any action to launch the program. I have checked all the setting in OE and nothing appears to be wrong. My computer is a 7-month old Sony Vaio running Windows XP with Service Pac 2 and Outlook Express 6. Has anybody out there ever had this annoying problem and what did you do to fix it? Thanks.

Answer:Outlook Express Login Window

I get that same problem. It is not with Outlook Express. There is a problem with connecting to the mail server. At least for me. I have to confirm the name and password. For some reason when you dont get a response after a couple of minutes from the mail servers it jsut assumes that your username and password is wrong and asks for you to confirm it.

This is a new problem from this morning. I have been using Outlook.com and Hotmail before the change without problems until now. I have made no changes in hardware, software or settings. I'm running Vista and IE9. When I try to login to Outlook I don't even get the login screen, just a blank white screen. I tried most of the recommendations from the tutorial about problems getting on secure sites with no change. I can access ebay and other secure sites except for Outlook and also IXsearch (just found that out). I run Kaspersky IS and tried disabling it to see if it was causing a problem since I had received messages "Attempt to use vulnerable SSL Protocol blocked" . I can access my Outlook account from other computers in my home. Get the same blank screen with Firefox on my computer. Any help is appreciated.

Problem has been resolved!   I don't know what disabled it in the first place but after reading about problems accessing certain credit card sites I enabled TLS 1.0 in IE9 and it all works.

Thanks

Is it possible to use a non-login email in the Mail app?

I login to Windows using my personal Outlook/Microsoft account. I'd like to use my blog's Outlook address in the Mail app, so I don't need to use the web interface when replying to emails.

Is this possible without messing up my login account?

Hello,

I have an issue that has me stopped from using Outlook 2007. Every time I open it (lately - worked ok for months) the program asks for my username and password repeatedly.

And it will not download any email until this is done, but it cycles again. It is useless as is and I have been using "Windows Mail" in Vista as my email client with no problem.

Does anyone know of a fix? TIA

Answer:Outlook 2003 login errors

The reason it keeps prompting you is that outlook is setup to check for emails every so many minutes. You can enter your email and password so they are automatically entered without prompting you. Go to Tools > Email Accounts > View or edit an existing account and click next > Highlight the proper account and choose Change > check the remember password box and enter your password > Click the More Sttings button > Choose outgoing server tab > Check the outgoing server requires authentication box > make sure the use same settings as my incoming mail server box is selected > click OK > Click Next > click Finish. I have a new computer and the installer set meup with a new email account. How can I access my old Outlook Express account?

Answer:outlook express email login

You have to export the emails from the previous computer, then import them onto the new one (if that's what you mean). See "File" heading in Outlook Express. If you want to be able to Send/Rec on your previous account then you need to set it up again. In Outlook Express it is Tools > Accounts but you don't say what email client you are now using and they are all different. We all live on the same ball.

So I have a freaking master's degree in IT but I am at a loss to help my elderly neighbor with Outlook Express on a Windows XP OS.Her husband just died so she's had a lot of family/friends around helping her out - one decided to "help" her computer. All of a sudden she is asked to log into an identity when she tries to open Outlook Express (this is not a Windows account login, just an Outlook Express identity login). She does not know the password but says she was able to log into it successfully one time but now she does not know what that password was she used.I know if she had forgotten her Windows account password I could boot the computer in Linux and grab the password hash and crack it. But I am not sure what to do in this situation. Can anyone recommend a program that can grab this "Identity Login" password or hash of it? I'm seeing some programs to grab passwords but it looks like they are more geared to grabbing browser passwords rather than OS passwords.I know I could always just set up a new identity for her and re-set up Outlook Express but would that only grab her new emails on the server or would it merge her old stuff too since it is the same account with Time Warner (her ISP). Since her husband just died I know she has lots of unread stuff that she had already downloaded the one time she was able to get in. Plus, like a normal person she has lots of old stuff saved in her email that she would like to continue to have access... Read more

Answer:Outlook Express Identity Login

She could go to Time Warner website and use Forgot Password to reset the password. After resetting it online it could then be changed in Outlook Express.

I have run into a problem that I have no idea how to troubleshoot. We have configured an Outlook 2007 client on a workstation that is located in one of our retail stores. Every 3 weeks or so I get a call from them saying that they are not able to receive email.

They receive an error from the incoming mail server.

When I look at the settings two fields have been changed.

1) The incoming name server is changed from "mail.usinternet.com" to "localhost".

2) The username is changed from "corren" to "corren/mail.usinternet.com".

When I make the change to set the incoming mail server back to mail.usinternet.com and the username to corren it works.

Every time they have problems, this is the change I notice that has been made. I am 98.99999% certain that it is not a case of an employee changing the settings.

How does this happen? It seems to happen on it's own.

Hello

New to the forums and PCs in general. Bit of back info - built a PC a month ago. Have had a few set backs with drivers and BIOS update, but it seems everything is stable for now.

I signed into my Xbox Live account about a week ago, which is linked to my hotmail/outlook account Ive had for ages. This automatically linked to my PC user account I have on this PC. I found out by rebooting, login screen shows my name as usual, but now underneath shows my email. It also changed my login password to my outlook password. Is this something to be concerned about? I can still login fine, but been nagging me because Ive never had a login password automatically switch on me before.

Hello Hansperdman, and welcome to Ten Forums.

It sounds like you switched your account that you sign in to Windows with to a Microsoft account when you setup and signed in to the Xbox app.

This is perfectly normal, and is nothing to worry about since your Microsoft account uses your email address password.

I have disabled windows firewall and norton's firewall. I have completely disabled norton. I have uninstalled norton. I have booted my computer into safe mode with networking. I attempted a registry value fix. I have tried to recreate my user accounts by deleting and entering info again. I have verified password using their webmail. I disabled windows defender. I have contacted microsoft norton and roadrunner they all accuse each other of causing the problem. This is a clean install of vista and office. It worked for two days and now wont access roadrunner accounts. All other accounts work fine i.e: hotmail, yahoo, gmail, and a work account. Hi All,
Heres a weird one for you......I've recently installed Norton systemworks 2005 premier and NIS 2005. Since doing so, my outlook express identity login box keeps popping up at random? ? It's happened whilst I've been using norton OBC, whilst I've been surfing the web and even when I've just been typing in microsoft word I really don't have a clue what is causing this but I have to assume it has something to do with the norton software installations as it never done this previous to these installs. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the norton softwares but to avail. Its not a major problem as I just simply close the identity login box when it does appear but it is rather annoying

My OS is ME and the version of Outlook Express is 6.

I would be grateful of any help/advice to eradicate this annoying little critter

Hello everybody.

I can't load any microsoft account login page in any browser on my laptop (running windows 8.1). Whether it is outlook, one drive, microsoft support forums, etc. Each time I try to load the login page I get the following errors:

In firefox: The connection was reset
In IE: This page cannot be displayed
In chrome: This webpage is not available

It was working up until yesterday, then all of sudden in the middle of the afternoon I couldn't access any microsoft login page.

As far as I can tell, these are the only pages that can't load. MSN works fine, any microsoft site works fine (outside of the login part of course). All other sites I have tried work just fine.

However, I can access my email in the Mail app that comes standard in windows 8.1 as well as on my android phone. Furthermore, I don't think that it is an ISP problem as I can easily access those pages on an old desktop computer I have and on my phone. It seems to be an issue with my laptop specifically.

I have tried restarting the computer (multiple times) and clearing the cache and cookies (multiple times).

If I can't fix this, I'm probably going to reinstall windows, but I really would like to save myself all the trouble that comes with that, especially since it's just one page that I can't get to load.

I really need help figuring this out. Any help and input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, i have an asus a7n8x-x motherboard bios version updated to 1010 with a sempron 3300 processor, i had in it a 512 mb pc2700 ram stick. I wanted to upgrade my ram and i know that my motherboard can support pc3200. I bought 2 1 gig pc3200 sticks but when i try to use them my pc keeps freezing during the post right after the testing memory phase. this happens no matter how i set my bios. Asus motherboards are very picky about RAM. Go back to the original ram and compare specs with the new RAM. The A7N8X-X is getting a bit old now... I can imagine that PC2700 is about the best you can do

Interesting occurrence: Installed WinTP, then installed old WiFi card (XP vintage). The driver was not recognized, caused instability, so removed it.
I have set up the computer to Login using an Microsoft Outlook account I created. Getting familiar with how all the email, one-drive, apps, etc. link/sync up.
Yesterday I installed a brand new WiFi card. This successfully installed, but interestingly, on first use (when I usually have to type in the WiFi password), when I selected the appropriate SSID, it just connected. Works fine! When I check network properties, it shows ******* for where the password goes, so looks like it is using the password.
All this is OK, but seems odd that it did not request the WiFi password. Is this captured somewhere when using a MS Outlook login? It syncs so many other things, perhaps it remembers the WiFi password, even when using a different WiFi card?!

Answer:Using Microsoft Outlook Login remembers WiFi Password?!

Open Start Menu > PC Settings. You'll find sync settings as shown in below two screenshots, the network passwords for networks you have connected will no longer be remembered if you turn off the setting shown:

Hello

As my first foray into VPN's the other day, I tried out "Shellfire" (free).

I have a PC with Windows 10 and an MS login.

Soon after the VPN connected, the password prompt started appearing for my connection from Outlook 2007 to my ISP's mail server. The prompt kept coming up even after I entered the correct password.

Shortly after that started, I got an email from MS saying there was a suspicious login attempt from a foreign I.P. address.

I disconnected the VPN, and my Outlook 2007 stopped prompting for my password. However, the MS login was a bigger hassle, because I had to go through a verification rigmarole to get back in.

Altogether, that seems like way too much trouble. What makes it all the more worrying is that I've had bigger problems in the past when it comes to MS lockouts. (i.e. it's taken multiple attempts to get verification codes sent etc.)
Am I doing something wrong, or is this par for the course with VPN's?

Hey all,

I have about 20 users who currently share workstations. It is shift work so we use roaming profiles so they have access to their personal data from any workstation. however, we have a problem. people have screwed up their profiles by installing software/etc to the point where they get different results on each workstation. IE, apps will run fine on one machine, but spit out errors on the next, and the results are different for each person.

now, we are going to wipe all the profiles and start again since we just got approved for a hardware refresh. How can we set this up again? I'm thinking we could do either a shared login or even local logins, but that would cause an issue w/ outlook. We have a shared network drive which could be used for personal data and i believe we could use the network drive to host the outlook pst files, i think? is there a way to have a shared login but have outlook 2007 load separate profiles in order to keep their email data separate? same issue with all the autologin stuff. with shared logins i don't want people saving favorites or having passwords saved, that stuff can be kept on their network drive (which would have individual logins, i'm thinking).

I'm not an Active Directory/sys admin guy. any advice?

Answer:Roaming Profiles, shared login and Outlook questions

shared logins are never a good idea.

just install the same set of apps on all computers, and don't give the users admin privileges, so that they cannot install software.

I currently support 4 facilities with roaming profiles. One of those facilities has roughly 300 employees total.

We don't have that issue, because pretty much all machines have the same build/software installed.

let me add... you can create multiple "profiles" with Outlook. But then you have the issue of the users accessing their home folder. Everybody that logs in to that machine with the "shared" login would either:
A - have access to everybody's home folder, including their own.
B - have no access to any home folder.

We normanlly just click on the outlook icon and we're there. The only thing that I can think of is I downloaded some updates from Microsoft the other night. Don't know if that could have any bearing on this. There certainly is not much information out there on what to do if you forget a password for your OE identity. I have spent hours on the net; even the Microsoft web site doesn't address lost or forgotten passwords fr OE. Question: accepting cookies

First let me say that I am VERY computer illiterate. So please keep answers very simple. I keep getting a message that says " your browser doe not have cookies enabled. A session cookie is required to establish and maintain your login" Now I have gone to my control panel and enabled all cookies but still can not log on to that particular site. What now?

Answer:accepting cookies

Try going to start--control panel--internet options, click on the privacy tab either click on the default button or slide the bar down to medium under settings. click apply and ok and if you have cookies enabled restart your computer and that should fix it. The second suggestion is if that don't work check your firewall program settings.

The way OE is setup now, there is no password that it automatically inputs when you want to check mail.

I went to "accounts", then edited the default account, and went to the page where you place your user name and your password, with a little box down below you can check to "remember your password". The box is darkened because there is no password in the password box, though the little box is checked where it says"remember your password." I typed in a password, then placed a check mark in the box, then hit "apply", and stopped and restarted OE(You may not have t do this, but I did in an attempt to fix problem). Anyhow, will not accept password, must be put in manually every time you check e-mail(unless you leave OE on- then you can automatically check e-mail with password.)

The computer has been this way from almost day 1 when it was bought 2 years ago.

Any ideas?

Thanx in advance.

However during the cleanout process the scanner also seemed to remove an important file concerning the internet. After that all my internet connestions shut down. (I was using wireless). Then I tried reinstalling the wireless drivers but they will not show up in XP. There's no connection signs, nothing in the Internet Connections folder and no little computer icon in the lower hand of the screen. My adapter is working fine and blinking but no recieveing/sending anything cause my comupter won'[t recongize it. Help?

Answer:XP Not accepting internet?

Okay. Even worse. I don't think it's just an internet problem anymore...I've just found out my soundcard as been disabled (although all the files are there unlike the internet) and my computer is no longer accepting driver ports. ..This just gets worse and worse

Hi, I have been having dire problems connecting to the net for the past week. When I try to connect (using Firefox) the system comes up with the proxy not accepting message. A similar message appears if I try IE. The strange thing is that my e-mails, which come via MS Office 2007 Outlook, can be sent and received. In addition I am able to log onto 'Spotify' and get a service. I can log on and surf with no problem using my wife's laptop. Line checks have shown that I have no line problems. The only way I have been able to obtain any internet service is to do a system restore. This action results in my getting access for a while, but it is very 'flakey' and slow. After a while it just refuses to connect again and I am back at square one. Looking back at the available restore points it appears that there was a critical Microsoft Update installed about the time that I started getting these connection problems - could this be the cause??
In addition to checking my line I have checked the eternet cable and connections. This seems OK. I have run system cleaning program (Tune Up Utilities 3013) and done a full virus scan (Kaspersky Internet Security 2013).

Any possible solutions to this problem (or is it problems) would be appreciated.
Because of this problem it may take some time for me to re-connect, so I may not be able to respond to any suggestions straight away.

Thanks
Bob

Whenever I try to use Google and save my preferences I get the message "your browser is not set up to recive cookies" the same happens when I try to log on in e-bay. I.E. accepts cookies from every other web site I use so I know it is accepting cookies. I have reset all the defaults on I.E. and Norton firewall 2003 just to make sure, but no good.I have also uninstaled and reinstaled I.E.They all worked fine up until a few weeks ago I run XP pro, I.E. version 6 sp1

Answer:I.E. not accepting certain cookies

I assume you know how to change cookie settings and have tried this so won't go into that.Could it be a firewall problem?IMHO the best option is to go for firefox from the above, you can set it to ask every time a site tries to install a cookie. And it's open source.

Question: Accepting Cookies

I have installed McAfee Security Centre 2005, Spyware Guard & Spyware Blaster and now a website i used to log into is now saying my pc is not accepting cookies, fair enough. However, i disabled all of the above programs and it still will not allow me. In a desperate attempt to solve the problem i have even reset my IE settings, but still no luck. Anyone know how to solve this problem?

Answer:Accepting Cookies

The site wouldn't be Hotmail by any chance? I have been having troubles on one machine trying to log into Hotmail. If I delete the temp internet files it's OK for a while. My wife can log in using her details no problem!! then I try and it says cookies are not enabled. I've tried altering security settings etc but no difference. The comp is running XPSP1 and is up to date with all MS critical updates. It's also running Spybot, Adaware and Avast. The other comp I use is fine. I will see if you get any replies that can solve you (and my) problem. Sorry if I have sorta hijacked your thread :-(

I have a San Disk jump drive, to which I changed the settings on another computer I was using it on. I'm not sure what really changed. However, when I plugged it into my computer after that, I got a notification saying the drive needed to be formatted before it could be used. I went and plugged it into another computer, and it worked fine. So I'm not sure what the problem is there... However, the strange thing is, now when I plug any mass storage device (i.e. my JVC digital camcorder, or another jump drive) it won't accept those either.

Any idea what is going on and how I can fix it?

Thanks!

Greetings. I have a ThinkPad T430 (2349SAC) with the latest BIOS upgrade (2.72). I have recently bought and installed a new CPU (i7-3632QM SR0V0) and it appears not to be supporting my RAM sticks (16GB G.Skill Ripjaw DDR3 2133MHz SO-DIMM Low-voltage 1.35V laptop kit 2x8GB CL11). Further investigation shows that it is the clock speed [of the RAM sticks] specifically that is not supported (2133 MHz) by the CPU as I can put my old (semi-original 1600 MHz) sticks in without an issue. I can even mix new stick (2133 MHz) with old stick (1600 MHz) to have the BIOS automatically underclock the new one to the old one's clock speed (2133 -> 1600 MHz). However, my old stick is 4 GB, leaving me with only 12 GB instead of desired 16 GB (which is what I was running on my old CPU (i5 something)). Some questions:Why wont BIOS automatically underclock the new RAM sticks with my new CPU hooked in?Why can I run the new RAM sticks on my old CPU and not my new CPU?How can I manually underclock my new RAM sticks from 2133 MHz to 1600 MHz?How can I access BIOS advanced tab? According to The Internet(TM), there should be a certain key press combination to access to BIOS's advanced mode. Concatenation of hardware details:System: Debian 9 StretchLaptop: Thinkpad T430 2349SACBIOS: 2.72(new) CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3632QM CPU @ 2.20GHz(new) RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ripjaw DDR3 2133MHz SO-DIMM Low-voltage 1.35V laptop kit 2x8GB CL11(old) CPU: i5 something (FRU: 04W4137)(old) RAM: 2 * 4GB (12... I've noticed my PC has stopped receiving multicast traffic.
If I boot into safe mode with networking then my application does get multicast..

I've disabled ZoneAlarm and Avast and neither of these have made a difference..

Any ideas what to try next ?

You could try the Clean boot approach to troubleshoot the problem.

I'm running IE on MX. I like IE because of it's compatibility with all the other MS programs. But recently it has started not accepting ever keystroke, for example if I'm not watching what I'm typing and retyping every letter that doesn't appear, if I was to type:
"The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog" it would come out like this:
Th quick brownfox juped over t lazy og.
I have tried downloading the latest version of IE and reinstalling it. It seemed to make a bit of a difference because it was really bad before I did it, but now it seems to be getting progressively worse again.
Any suggestions?

Answer:IE not accepting every keystroke

What kind of system is it running on, as in CPU speed, RAM, and OS?

Hi there, accessing my yahoo pop mail through Outlook Express 6 isn't working (since yesterday), however it's been fine for months. It just keeps wanting me to confirm my username and password, however they're entered correctly and are the same as always.Even if I re-enter my password it still doesn't work :(Anyone come across this before?

Answer:OE6 Asking for, but not accepting password :(

I haven't encountered it with Yahoo but from time to time I get the same problem with one or other of my POP3 accounts. It generally seems to mean that their mail server is currently unable to respond, ie it's down. The problem usually disappears within a day but I guess it depends on the problem.

Prior to formatting my comp today, my cd-writer (a philips 400 series), it was less than reliable.

UPon successfully reviving my computer, the cd-writer was recognised in windows me, the bios and dos. howeber, i cannot access any cd's put in this drive. as a test, i removed the cd writer from device manager, did all the usual stuff etc etc and it still wont read cds (and therefore write to either).

my cousin seems to think it is FUBAR, well, partially at least and that the laser may be mis-aligned for some reason and is not detecting cd's in the drive. his reaso for this is the the drive is recognised (as mentioned), in DOS, the bios and windows. it is just not reading/writing cds.

doyou think he is right? should i open it up and re-align the laser or is it time to buy a new one (it is out of warranty)

Answer:CD - RW recognised but not accepting cds

I dont think there is any way to 'open it up and realign the laser', at least I have never heard of this being done. You pretty much have to destroy a cdrom to get at it. You could try one of those cdrom cleaner disks to clean the drive, and there are some places on the net that will show you how to clean parts with a q-tip. Will it read a cd in DOS? You might try to find a firmware upgrade for it, but I think you are right, you will need to get a new one.
