Lenovo Z50-70 battery plugged in not charging, won't charge no matter what I do

Question: Lenovo Z50-70 battery plugged in not charging, won't charge no matter what I do

Hi,I have a Lenovo Z50-70 running Windows 8.1. The laptop is relatively new, bought in Jan. 2015.Some time ago, the original battery suddenly started to have a problem where it would say 45% available, plugged in, not charging. No matter what fixes I tried (after looking through a lot of articles, posts, comments, etc.), nothing made the battery start charging again. It always stays at 45%. Also the battery light/indicator on the front of the laptop is always blinking white. So I got a new battery, put it in hoping that it would work and charge up to 100%, but the new battery is having exactly the same problem as the original old one! It will only charge up to 45%, then it says plugged in not charging. The battery light is again always blinking white. What do I do? How can this be fixed? What's going on?Appreciate any help. Thank you very much.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lenovo Z50-70 battery plugged in not charging, won't charge no matter what I do

Sounds like it may be either the charger or the charging port at fault here. However, I have a couple of questions...1. Does the battery charge increase at all if you leave the machine turned off and plugged in, or does it still report 45%?2. Does it power on when only on battery power?3. Was the new battery a new, genuine Lenovo part? There seem to be a lot of people reporting similar issues with this model unfortunately.

check the warranty is still active, as thats one route you could take with a relatively new laptop.

also, try uninstalling the energy management and restart the system and check for the issue. also try uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI from the device manager and restart the system and check for the issue. for more info on this action see this thread in the link:

Things have been good with my Yoga 3 pro until this weekend. Battery life was a good 5-6 hours, but after a recent windows update it appears the battery will no longer charge. It shows plugged in and charging and shows increasing charge but after un plugging it will dim the screen as if it's in power save and then die within 10-15 minutes. I reverted to before the update but that did not solve the problem. It happened all of a sudden so I assumed it was related to the update. Please help, love the machine but this makes it unusable.

Hi,I am using HP 430 Notebook PC with Windows 8.1. I am having problem for 3 days. The problem is at reaching 93% of batery charge, the battery indicatior in OS says "Plugged in, Not Carging" and with that "LED indicatior blinks" from orange to white with few seconds interval of time. Few seconds it stays white and after that it becomes orange in a cycleAnd the OS showing "Plugged in, Carging" after that "Plugged in, Not Carging" without removing charger chord. Also this happens repeatedly. 1. I have run Hp Support assistant Battery check, and result is "Promary Battery: OK"2. Have drained static charge, removing battery. But same result.3. Have tried with charging with another charger. No improvement. Did not found Battery test in BIOS diagnostic. Battery is 2 year old. Mosty use plugging charger chord. But use to drain battery twice in a month to keep battery healty. Pls give some suggestions for this trouble.

You've to replace battery with a new HP genuine battery.http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01732674#AbT12 years is good enough life. What are the cell voltages of each cell, cycle count after doing battery tests? Are you able to plug in AC adapter alone with battery removed, use laptop in usual manner?RegardsVisruth

I have an IdeaPad 500.  The A/C charger is "plugged in" and the icon says it is "charging" but there is no charge to the battery, which is now at 53% (it was 55% yesterday).   I have gone to the forum and done what they suggest (e.g. turned off the Conservation Mode).  Unlike most questions on the forum, my system says "charging" rather than "not charging".  And because it is an IdeaPad, I cannot remove the battery (at least not without opening up the case).  I am a bit worried this is a hardware/battery failure -- but I hope this forum might give me a software fix

Thanks in advance

What can I do? Please help, thanks!

I have just bought a new battery (official battery) and it was fine for a couple of weeks, but now it doesnt charge, and the battery light flashes amber continually. I checked the battery status and it says 0 for charging.

I have searched online and there are suggestions for WIndows about deleting drivers, but with UBUNTU there doesnt seem to be a solution?

This is in response to the problem everyone is having with the battery not charging when plugged in. I found this in the guide for my idea pad Z400. It should help many of you to finally make peace with your battery Battery (B):      Battery Mode (B-1):  By using the battery maintenance function, it is possible to extend the battery lifespan. Before you use this function, read the precaution. Energy Management 8.0 can automatically track your habit of battery use, and then provide suggestions on selecting a battery maintenance mode for extending the battery lifespan. Two battery modes are provided: Maximum Battery Life and Optimized Battery Health.       Maximum Battery Life: In this mode, the battery has the most powerful charging capacity. Note that this mode cannot optimize the battery circle lifespan.       Optimized Battery Health: In this mode, the battery limits charging to 60% of its full capacity. This can reduce the battery degradation and extend the battery lifespan.

Laptop: Lenovo Ideapad S100c  Good day! I'm a complete novice at computer troubleshooting. So, please excuse me if I sound like an idiot.  I bought the laptop just 10 days ago (warranty of 1 year). It worked fine before but suddenly the battery won't charge. The icon indicates that it is 'plugged in, charging'. But even if i leave it with the charger plugged in, it won't seem to store the 'charge' and now I'm stuck at 6%.  This is not the first time this problem occurred. One time, I shut it down and plugged it into the charger and left it to charge for a couple of hours. When I opened it, it didn't seem to charge at all. So, I opted to charge it while it was open and it worked.  And, now I leave it open when I charge it but it doesn't seem to although it is indicated. Should I wait for a miracle to happen or do I get a new battery pack?Thank you in advance.

Answer:Ideapad S100c battery problems. 'Plugged in, charging' but does not store charge.

hi CynicalTurtle,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. Remove the battery and AC adapter
2. Press and hold the power button for 30secs
3. Insert the AC adapter and boot into WIndows
4. When the WIndows OS is loaded, slide the battery back in place and see if it takes a charge
5. If the battery still doesn't charge, try to perform a battery gauge reset as discussed in this article.

If the battery starts charge, monitor the battery health by using Passmark's BatteryMon.
If the problem persist and the battery still doesn't charge, I recommend you contact lenovo for a replacement battery.

Hope this helps

Hello. First of all, thank you for taking the time to view my post and potentially help me out. So the problem is that my laptop will not start. I was using my laptop here one day and it was working fine, but it was unable to charge for some reason and ended up shutting down so I went to bed. The next morning I tried turning it on, but it was dead. I have tried a different charger as my sister also has a lenovo laptop, but this did not work either. I would think if the battery was the problem, the laptop should still be working with the charger in? I have tried calling support line several times with no answer, the warranty has gone out and I forgot where i bought the laptop sadly. Really frustrated over here, and any help is highly appreciated!

I am facing the below given 2 problems with the battery of a brand new lenovo U41-70 i5 Red model.

1. The plugged in but not charging error. Some suggestions in the web ask the user to remove the battery and change some stuff in the device drivers, but in my model the battery is not removable.

2. The battery dissipates a lot of charge while in complete switched off mode (not in sleep, nor hibernated). I have also disabled the windows fast boot mode from the power options, but doesn't work.
To give an estimate, in approximately 9 hours of shutdown (and the charging removed) the battery dissipates from a full 100 to 70%.

Note: I have updated the laptop which came with Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. Hence, the system is running on windows 10 now. The laptop is 10 days old.

Is there any suggestions?  UPDATE: I just installed Lenovo Enery Managment in windows 8 before I was trying in windows 7. In the battery tab there are two options Maximun battery LifeOptimized battery HealthIt is selected to "Optimized battery Health" and won't change regardless of power plan. I click on  "Maximun battery Life" and when I open the app again it reset it to "Optimized battery Health". UPDATE # 2: Lenovo Solution Center say that battery life is GOOD. Recently my T410 laptop has had issues with charging the battery, the battery is plugged in and not charging.I have attempted updating the firmware for the battery, it failes half way through as the battery cannot be not identified. The lenovo power mannager does not resolve the issue either as it cannot detect the battery. Any advice on diagnostics or resolutions would be greatly appreciated, as after contacting lenovo support, they simply told me to replace the battery. Which I am happy to do but only as a last resort.

Hi, i bought this Lenovo Yoga 13 machine 3 days ago, and now the battery is discharging and when i plug the power cord the battery icon shows me the "plugged in not charging" message. The problem began last night. I've read some forums, and tried changing the battery configuration to this or that, nothing works. I've also read that in 65% the battery will start to charge. It doesn't, i'm currently in 56% and discharging. The problem began after a Windows 8 update, so I'm suspecting the OS is the problem....  I dont know what will happen when the battery discharge completely.... but i will discharge it and tell here what happens... Help!!!

Okay, so my keyboard dock works fine. I restarted it once (paperclip method) after dying on me, but afterwards nothing was really wrong with it. Now, the tablet's battery is acting funny. At first, I thought it was just my keyboard dock not charging my tablet, so I detatched the keyboard, and the tablet completely shut off. I plugged the AC adapter into the tablet, and it came back to life, but it would not charge at all. The keyboard dock would be at 100%, but the tablet itself would only be at 8%. I have installed the Lenovo Dependency Package thing and the firmware update, but it didn't change anything. Now, even though it says (plugged in, charging) on my tablet, it's not really charging. So, whenever I unplug the tablet or detatch the tablet from the keyboard dock, the system completely turns off because it's only at 8%. Please help me! Thank you!  EDIT: Okay, so I unplugged the AC adapter while the keyboard dock was on and then Battery #1, the tablet battery, drained down to 0%, and its status is now Plugged in, not charging, while Battery #2 is plugged in, charging. I also got a pop up notification saying there's an error in battery #1, see replacement options. I clicked it, but it was a dead browser link. Also, when I go to the Support app, it says under messages that my battery is not valid... but I don't know how that happened. I've only had my Helix for about 2 months now.

Hi!My Yoga 500-15ISK Laptop seems to have a battery issue. For some time now, whenever I plug my laptop into the AC power, I get this message, e.g. "(% charge) available, (plugged in, charging)", however for some reason, the battery level actually stays the same even after a significant amount of time of being plugged in to the AC supply. Moreover, the battery icon initially shows the animated one which indicates charging is indeed in progress, then after a few moments, it will freeze on the estimated level. Before this, my laptop's battery usually charges relatively quickly. Also, I have not turned on the Conservation Mode so it must charged up beyond 50-60% especially if I leave it plugged in overnight. This issue is really bewildering me right now. Any comments or suggestions on how I can address this issue? Thanks!Other notes re my laptop:It's been around 10 months since I've bought it and I have encountered this issue only a few days ago.I have no other issues with it.

Hello everyone, I hope everyone's doing fine.Anyways, I've been having battery troubles with my laptop which has the specs: Lenovo B560Core i3 370MBios - 39CN16WWRAM - 4GBWindows 7 - 32bit Now, the issue is that the original battery which came with the laptop is done with...I mean if I unplug the laptop, it takes just a couple of minutes and the battery drains out. I have been searching for the battery in the market and I did find some but now when I connect the "new" battery, I get "plugged in, not charging" when I hover over the "battery" icon in the tray.  I went through the details on the sticker of both the original battery as well as the new one and the only difference I found was that mine said "48000" where the other one says "44000"...Can that be the reason behind this problem? Also, I cannot find the battery with 48000 in the market or online. Can anybody please shed some light on this? I did try the method of turning off the laptop, removing the power cable and battery and pressing the power button for a couple of seconds. That didn't work either. Thanks,Abdullah

Hi, I have a Lenovo P580 that is almost 3 years old, and I recently bought a new battery from Amazon to replace the original battery that came with the laptop. However, after installing the new battery, I can't get it to charge with the AC adapter plugged in. The new battery had a 60% charge initially. I currently have the battery setting in "battery fully-charged mode." The battery indicator light is red and flashes quickly, regardless of whether the AC adapter is plugged in or not (and despite having 60% charge). In the bottom right-hand corner of the desktop taskbar, the battery is recognized as being "plugged in, not charging." Is there a way to get the battery to charge? Or should I return the battery and get a different one? I really don't think the battery is the problem, but who knows. Thanks.

Hi, I purchased an IdeaPad z710 not too long ago and I've been haveing some problems, mostly that I can't seem to get the battery to charge at all. The battery sits at 1% and a notification reads..."plugged in, not charging". I don't know whats wrong, and I've already checked to se if the battery is in visible good condition (it is). Any tips or suggestions would be appriciated.

Answer:Lenovo Z710 Battery Plugged in Not Charging Problem

hi rjw1234,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. Turn off the computer, unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery
2. Press and hold the power button for 30secs then plug-in the AC adapter and re-insert the battery.
3. While the computer is off, let the battery charge for about an hour or two and observe the light indicators. When finished, turn on the computer check.

- Link to picture

If the battery still stays at 1% and the battery notification is still "Plugged-in, not charging", I recommend you contact lenovo and report as you most likely need to get the battery replaced.

Hi there everyone! I know that many of us here using the new z and p series ideapad have encountered this issue and some are still wrecking their brains, calling customer hotlines, searching the internet and trying all sorts of ways. I specially made an account to share my experience and solution with you all through an in depth explanation. Sorry for some broken english cos im singaporean and it has become a habit PLEASE READ THROUGH ALL OF IT BEFORE DOING ANYTHING. and don't kpkb if it doesnt work because you didn't read it through. What i did when i realised i had this problem: 1. Check if the battery had a problem, but now the batteries are sealed inside the computer. Scratch that if u are too.2. Check the Power Brick, plug out and plug the adapter back in, change the wall socket you are plugged into.3. Restart the computer. I believe this is what the majority of you have done. Then u call customer hot line, send to service center, still cannot find out the problem or they claim battery spoil, then you have to wait for too **bleep** long b4 it gets repaired. NO YOU DON'T HAVE TO! Take these few steps to save yourself the time, money and whatever. Firstly go to this website: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-and-U-series-Laptops/Ideapad-Z400-or-Z500-battery-will-not-cha... I shall elaborate on the steps since they do not. Hi people! update for the above message: Lenovo Energy Management is still the main culprit for the error, so pls do check that under the battery menu in LEM, IT IS SET TO 'MAXIMUM BATTERY LIFE' to enable charging to 100%, not Optimised battery health as this will allow your battery to have a longer lifespan( how many years it can last, i do not mean one charge.)

Hi, I had the problem where the battery didn't charge at all even if it was connected in the right way and the charger was plugged in. So I started to search internet for possible solutions. Those I found where to 1) disable alt uninstall ac and acpi adapter in Windows Device Manager. Restart computer.. Not charging problem is related to some Windows issue. 2) Choose the alternative "maximum battery life" in Lenovo Energy management.. Neither worked after several and time consuming tries... The problem here is Lenovos "smart" Energy management system that prevents the computer from charging the battery to "save it".. Solution: Uninstall Energy Management (Publisher: Lenovo) under Program and Features in Windows Control Panel and the problem is solved.. And don't reinstall this program again....

Answer:Lenovo Laptop y450 says battery plugged in, not charging

Re-calibrate the battery first and run your laptop on it. If the problem remains, try the solutions below. Find a spare charger and try to charge your laptop with it.If your problem still persists, then check for a BIOS update. CoolGuy

Hi I own a Lenovo G560 with an Intel Pentium CPU. I upgraded to Windows 10, and it worked fine for about a year. After I deleted a few viruses and a few garbage programs off the machine, the battery refused to charge past 87%. I have heard to check Lenovo Power Manager, but there is no such software on the system. Is there any other solution I could try?

I have a Lenovo G580 model, the battery shows "Plugged in not charging" and 80% battery charged when power chord is plugged in but as soon as the power supply is removed the machine shuts off as the battery is not giving any support. Please suggest what should be done to solve the issue. Thanks in advance

Hi Mayank,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your G580 Laptop is displaying message ?plugged in, not charging? while trying to charge. Hence I suggest you to perform Flee-Power and check if the issue persists.

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.
Then insert the battery when the computer is turned ON.
If the issue persists, please perform ?Battery Gauge Reset? after installing LEM (Lenovo Energy Management) in the computer.

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

My lenovo s10 netbook, with windows 7 and XP isn't charging anymore. I thought it was because XP is no longer supported or something, but I upgraded to Windows 7 and it still doesn't work. There's an orange light on, and when I move the battery around it turns blinking blue, I thought that meant it was charging, but in Windows 7 it says no battery detected and it's not holding any charge. Any advice would be deeply appreciated. Thanks!!

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad S10 Battery Problem (plugged in, not charging) HELP!!!

hi john_i,

Try performing a system power drain,
Remove the Battery and AC charger,
Hold the power button down for 15 sec.
Reconnect the battery and AC and turn the system on, Check if the charging will continue.
If not try removing the AC and see if the the computer will shut off.
If yes then you might need to replace the battery.

Hello All, I have a 3000 V100 laptop that worked regularly until 4 months ago, where it stopped charging the battery.  The battery indicator shows it is plugged in, and correctly states 0% available. When I disconnect the AC power it, stops working immediately. During this period I tried to upgrade my BIOS, and to look for other solutions, assuming it just ended its life, when a few days ago I came across the Lenovo support site.  saw the N100 battery thread (that solved by replacing batteries of computers manufactured on 02/2007), that showed EXACTLY THE SAME SYMPTOMS, and guess what - MY V100 was also manufactured on FEBRUARY 2007....  Here is the FRU: 92P1216, and the S/N has 92P1215  Again - I think it's exactly the N100 battery problem - same symptoms, same manufacturing date, and looks the same.  Can anyone from Lenovo help here? PS ? I opened the same thread and marked it as "solved" by mistake. So I reopened it here ? to be able to get help.  Best Regards,Eyal

Hi, Have a few observations and questions regarding the battery of x240. 1.Haven't really noticed before, but when we plug in the charger, should the charging info for both internal and external battery read "plugged in, charging"? 2. I've noticed that mine only has 1 (either internal or external) that reads "plugged in, charging" while the other isn't (plugged in, not charging) - I initially thought that once one is done charging, the other would activate and charge but it's apparently it doesn't. 3. Haven't really found out the issue, i.e. hardware or software. Sometimes it's the internal battery that charges, sometimes it's the other - do I have both defective batteries? Is it a software issue? Below are the things I've tested/tried 1. I've uninstalled the devices drivers in the device manager, restarted - still the same. 2. Install / re-installed the lenovo power manager driver - nada. 3. Tried charging the laptop while it is powered down - and both got fully charged!? Is anyone experiencing the same issue? appreciate the advise / help and thanks in advance.

Answer:Lenovo x240 battery observations and inquiries [plugged in not charging]

Hi Legapau,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with 2nd battery not charging on your ThinkPad X240.
Shutdown the system and remove AC power adapter & battery.

Connect only AC power adapter and switch ON the system.
Go ?Device Manager? uninstall ACPI adapter from that.
Shutdown the system and connect the Battery and AC adapter and switch ON the system.
If the issue still persists then run ThinkVantage system update utility so that it will update all the required drivers and application.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Hi, I have a lenovo ideapad u410, it is about 2 years old now, and I've been having charging problems. This started last year, where my laptop would be plugged in and down on the battery icon it would say that it's "plugged in, not charging." The battery would deplete completely, and when I try to charge it, the light would just blink. This eventually went away after about a month, I didn't do anything, and I could use my laptop again. However now it's back, at first I thought it was my charger, but I removed my battery and plugged it in and I can use my laptop without the battery. I tried to replace the battery, but it still did not charge. When I plug it in with a battery in the laptop, it will only blink a few times then stop entirely. Do I need to download any battery management drivers? I don't know what the problem is.

Answer:Lenovo ideapad u410 plugged in, not charging, battery depleted

I have my U410 Touch for 10 months now.  It always charged to 100 % but starting a couple days ago it only charged up to 90% and stoppped.  I called Technical support as I am still within warranty, they told me to perform the  the battery gauge, but it did not work.  Then they asked me to reinstall the battery driver and the energy management software but it is still not working not charging to 100%.  They now suggest to me to do one key recovey to reset to the factory setting to see if it works.  If not, they said I can send back the computer for service.  I am not sure if I should do the one key recovery becaue I will loose all my files and etc.  I am skeptical if this will work?  Any suggestion?  Should I just tell them I will send back the computer to Lenovo to fix the problem but then I will not have the computer for at least two weeks. ....

I have a Lenovo Flex 3 1480 with Intel I7.  I was getting a message that says "plugged in charging" but the battery charge was staying at 60% and not increasing. Lenovo techs said the battery must be bad so I ordered and installed a new, Lenovo brand battery.  I get the same condition... placing the cursor over the battery symbol gives a status message of "40% available, plugged in, charging" but the battery charge never increases, even after shutting off the computer down and leaving it plugged in overnight. The laptop was a year old and therefore out of warranty last November, 2016. HELP!

hi paranthaman,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try to charge the battery while the computer is off (eg. for 2hrs) then observe.

If the battery charge is still 0% after doing the above procedure then it's likely that the battery is showing signs of failure. In this case, I recommend you check if the battery still has a warranty and check with the reseller for a replacement battery.

I just got my Lenovo ideapad Y700 everything was working fine until updating Lenovo settings and windows 10. The battery now only charges to 98% and continues to say charging. Tried to open up Lenovo settings to see if I could change the battery settings to fix the problem. Now the settings won't stay open it just closes 5-30 seconds after I open it. I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling, still has the problem. Any thoughts?

Hello Lenovo Forums,      It's really frustrating for me to be here and posting a problem exactly a week after I bought my laptop. So I got this thing last week and about 3 days ago it started hesitating to charge. I'm sure it was not a hardware issue because at startup it charges but after a while it stops.      I got into a conclusion that it was probably some kind of service that stops it from charging. So I uninstalled the Energy Management App but it didn't work so I just reinstalled it back. I also tried to uninstall the "Microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery" like what most people recommend but it just reinstalls and doesn't work at all. I tried disabling it but it removes the battery icon from the taskbar. I also tried removing and reinstalling the battery a couple of times which resulted into nothing.      But just today when I booted up the laptop the Lenovo Management Software shown a message saying that my battery is not genuine and they will hesitate to charge it.      I was like "W**? I just got this thing last week and touched nothing and now you're telling me my battery is not genuine?" So looked at the battery and it was LEGIT with all the legit lenovo branding and everything.      Can anybody help me fix this? Thank you

Hello all, I recently recieved my IdeaPad Y410p from the Lenovo repair centre and they changed my system board for a different issue, but now I have a new problem. I updated Windows to 8.1 and did all the critical updates and then tried to uninstall some of Lenovo's bloatware and now my laptop won't turn on or charge the battery. I tried to do a power drain (remove the battery and hold down the power button), but still no luck. The laptop won't turn on at all with the battery or the plug by itself.  I then waited a few hours and tried to turn on my laptop again and then this time it powered on for some reason! I quickly restored my system back to Windows 8 thinking there was a problem with an update or bloatware uninstallation and then all seemed well until  I powered down my laptop again, but then couldn't power it back on. I called Leneovo and they said it was impossible for it to be a hardware problem since they just repaired it and since I updated everything and then restored it back, which then it still had the same power issues means it most likely isn't software. The only other thing I could think of is there might be a problem with the power adapter, but I've had this laptop since July 2013 and the adapter was working perfectly fine and this problem only started once I received my laptop back from Lenovo after a "repair". Any other suggestions would be very much appreciated at this point. Thanks!

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Y410p won't power on with power adapter plugged in and won't charge battery.

Hi there -  I wanted to add that I am having the same problem. I sent my Lenovo in for warranty repair (rear left hinge broke) - I got it back Friday May 16th and ever since then it won't stay on and sometimes won't turn on. I called Lenovo warranty support and (of course) they denied it was their problem. However, I complained enough that they're going to send me a new one. Of course, you have to be in-warranty for this to work. Just a suggestion Hope you get your straightened out!!!

Hi, all. I have had my Ideapad P400 for a few years now and i have never encountered a problem like this one. I just recently upgraded to Windows 10, which i actually like a lot, and all of a sudden, my battery says "plugged in, not charging." It will only charge up to 59% and it dies very quickly. I thought it was the battery, so i bought a replacement and installed it. It did the same exact thing. I've tried doing a battery reset in the energy management window, i have tried downgrading to windows 8 again, and i have tried looking up different firmware updates that could potentially fix the problem, but nothing. If anyone has any idea on how to fix this problem of mine, i greatly appreciate it. This is really my last shot before i have to take it in to be repaaired. Thanks! -Frank C. (P.S. Answer:B450 does not take charge | Plugged in, not charging. Help

Hi

Welcome to the community.

As your concern is regarding the battery's improper charging. So in order to overcome this issue, you please need to undergo the following steps:
1. Open Lenovo Energy Management
2. Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.
3. Under Battery Health, Click on Start for Battery Gauge Reset. (refer to Fig. 1 below)
4. That should refresh the gauge and let the system finish through the cycle.
5.  Please do not close the system while performing the Gauge Reset, it will take more time for this.

Afterwards, please restart the system and check whether the issue gets resolved.

Regards,
Sameer

Hi, I bought a laptop U410 last week. However, the battery does not work. When the AC power adapter is plugged in, it shows "plugged in, charging".  But the battery can not be charged any more. It is always showing "0% available" as shown in the following picture. The LED (battery indicator) is in fast blinking with amber color. The laptop works very well with AC power adapter. Without it, the laptop can not be turned on. I suppose that the AC power adapter works well. Does anyone meet the same situation? What is wrong with the mainboard or battery? Please give me some suggestion to deal with it. Thanks in advance.

I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (Gen3) Model 20BS touchscreen  running Windows 7 64 bit. The battery is not charging -- it's in a perpetual state of "plugged in not charging"  and even when plugged in, it?s losing appr 1 percent per day (down to 31%). This has happened a few times over the past 3-4 months since I got the machine, but I've managed to find things that "fixed" it (at least temporarily): - Resetting the power gauge worked once - Changing the custom battery charge threshold worked a few times - Plugging in the power cord at different stages of reboot seemed to fix it once (although not sure why / how) Based on previous thread posts, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Power Manager and then tried to run Battery Gauge Reset, but to no avail. And the reset only appears to run for about 30 sec before the system tray icon switches back to normal. Thanks in advance. Karl

I have the flex 2 and the only time my laptop charges is when it is completely turned off. The battery life is also very short, even when I am using my laptop it says "plugged in, charging" but the battery life continues to go down, it only lasts about an hour or two WHILE BEING PLUGGED IN. And it takes a couple hours to fully charge when i have it turned off, i usually plug it in at night and in the morning it will be a full charge. I have only had this laptop about 4 months, it is not old, and I have not been over using it. Everything else functions perfectly fine on it and i love it, but this is a huge problem when i am trying to get school work done. this has been going on a few weeks now. My W520 says its charging but it is losing power.I replaced both adapter and battery. (genuine parts) but it doesn't work. Its really weird what happens. I have used the battery about 4 cycles. The new battery charged properly in the first cycle. Then, it stopped charging. The battery status was 'Plugged in / Charging' but it was losing charge.I plugged in overnight and I saw that it was charging again. Then again it stopped charging. I managed to charge again for few cycles...then it stopped again... I am waiting for it to charge again.....lol Did anyone have similar problem? I couldn't find anything about this in the forum. I would greatly appreciate any ideas or help. Laptop is about 2 years old.

Answer:W520 Plugged in /Charging but losing charge

What percentage of capacity seems to be the limit? Check the charge settings in the power manager.

My Z50 Laptop, only 5 months old, is plugged in, saying "charging", but it doesn't charge. It is at 6% battery now, I cannot unplug it without turning it off before. WHAT CAN I DO? The service phone number is permanently engaged. I have already taken the battery out for a while and run the "Zurücksetzen des Akkustandanzeigers" program. No result. I am relly disappointed about this lack of service!

Hi ! Over the past two weeks I've spent my time troubleshooting why my recently (used) bought X240 is not charging the internal battery. Short timeline: 1. Bought used X240 in good condition but with dead internal and external battery - working well when using power supply.2. Came home and tested that thing -> both batteries show "0% - not charging" (with Win10Pro installed) *suprise, surprise*3. Ordered both new internal and external battery.4. External battery came 1.5 weeks ago. Installed it and worked like a charm (Battery 2 (external): X%, charging).5. Internal battery came the day before yesterday. Installed it and did not work -> "Battery 1: 53% - plugged in, charging - Battery 2: 6% - plugged in, not charging)6. Waited the recommended 6-12 hours like it was written in the "manual" to get it fully charged.7. Next morning -> Batterystatus unchanged (see point 5) ... It's stuck at 53%. Though the status says it's charging, it doesn't.8. Simply tried out what's going to happen when I pull the cable of the power supply -> Notebook instant off *hmmm*9. As the external battery was obviously blocked from charging by the internal (as it was not charged), I've taken out the internal battery again and et voila, external battery is charging again.I've tried to remove both batteries and perform the "Magic Trick" (press the main power switch for 30 secs) and I've also pushed the "reset" switch on the backside near the battery. Sadly without any result ;-(... Read more

Hello and peace on you..
I have a DELL Inspiron N5110 from early 2011
I was using the laptop correctly..The laptop was plugged in and the battery was charging..Then i removed the charger let the laptop on battery until suddenly the laptop shuts down without even telling me that the battery is low or even leaving some "emergency" charge on it (usually 7% or 5% i don't know)..I plugged it in to charge it again and open my leptop and i found out that the battery is not taking charge anymore!
I tried to see if the propblem is with the connector and tried to remove and put in again the charger and it ddid not work
i tried also to remove the battery and put it in again, it did not help
Now it is stuck on 2% of charge from 5 days and it's plugged in!
The laptop says that the battery is charging, but actually it is not charging and the charge level is the same from days
I looked up some solutions online like uninstalling ACPI microsof from Device manager and reboot the laptop..It did not work
"Jauge de batterie" which is an integrated software related to DELL, says that the battery health is good and that my battery is working properly
The laptop works fine with only the charger plugged in and battery out
PS: the laptop heats usually but i think it did not affect the battery at all since it was working fine and the charge took me about at minimum 30 min on high performance to be emptyed before this happens.
Please, i'm seeking for help
I hope you can ... Read more

Answer:Battery says: Charging, but it is not actually charging while plugged in and is stuck in 2% for 5 days !

First thing to check is wherther the sysetm recognizes the AC adapter - F2 at powerup to check that.
If it doesn't, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter - if that doesn't fix the issue, replace the DC jack board, and if that doesn't solve it, the mainboard.  Note:  you MUST use a Dell adapter - NOT a third party unit.
If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter, but won't charge the battery, chances are the battery is bad and will need to be replaced.
You cannot solve the issue without checking and, if necessary, replacing these parts.

Hi I just bought a refurbished HP Envy M6 laptop from PCWorld, and for some reason when I plug in the charger, the battery icon says 'plugged in, charging' however it has been stuck on 12% for over 3 hours now! The battery level on the icon increases at first (i.e. it goes up and down, showing it is charging) for about a minute, and then the icon stops moving at all.

When I got the laptop the battery level was about 35% and I used it at first without charging it until it got to 12%, and now its been stuck ever since.

I would be extremely grateful if someone could shed some light on this issue for me.

I would take it back to PCWorld however I bought it from the ebay outlet, and the only option they have given is either a full refund or a partial refund, however I would prefer to keep this laptop and get this issue sorted out.

Thanks

Product Name: HP ENVY 15-u010dx x360 Convertible PCProduct Model: 15-U010dXOperating System: Windows 8.1 (64-bit)When Purchased: July 2014 The Problem: The LED charging light flashes continuously (even when powered off or plugged in) and when the laptop is plugged in, the battery simply will not charge.  Details: This just started today. When the laptop is plugged in, it states "plugged in, not charging." However, the battery doesn't lose charge while it's plugged in. It's like the computer is dependent upon the power cord and the battery is shot.  This is strange because I don't leave my laptop charging for long periods of time. Thinking back, my laptop has died at around 11% charge since I purchased it. What I've Tried:turning it off and back oninstalling updates and restartingseeing if the laptop would charge while it's offswitching cordsswitching outletshours of browsing HP and other support forumsI'm hesitant to try any battery calibration or removal until I know whether my battery is removable. Hopefully, you all can help. I also don't even know what the diagnosis of the problem is, and don't want to spend money taking it in to get it fixed until I have a better idea.

I've been running Windows 10 flawlessly for the past month or so.  All of a sudden my battery would stop at 90% (I had this problem in Win 8.1 and several battery guage resets worked). I tried running the reset from energy management but it would just run forever and never finish.  I tried running down the battery manually and letting the computer sit for several hours.  After plugging it in it would climb to about 60% and then say plugged in not charging.  It's very erratic now and will often not charge, and when it does it doesn't go past 60%.I've tried uninstalling energy management completely with no luck.  I've reinstalled it and run the guage reset with no luck.  It will now finish (as opposed to running forever) but I can't get the battery past 60%. How do I fix this?  Running the guage reset actually made the problem much worse and I haven't been able to get it fully charged or even to 90% since...

I have an XPS 9550 6th Gen running Windows 10 (Just over 1 year, out of warranty).
The issue is when the charge plug is plugged in and hovering over the battery icon it says that battery is charging.  However the battery is not charging but discharging until the laptop switches off.  The only way for the battery to charge again is to deplete the battery until the laptop is unresponsive when the power button is pushed to switch lap top on.  Once there is no residual power in the battery it will start charging again to 100% after which the cycle repeats, discharge.
Things I have tried.
Latest Bios update - no change
Another A/C charger - worked ok for a few days
Replaced battery - no change
Bios settings - reset to default (info related to battery and A/C charge reports all good)
F12 - Dell diagnostics, reports all good
When Battery is disconnected the laptop works normally
The laptop charge socket seems tight and secure
I have searched the internet exhaustively but have not found this same issue reported.  The only feasible way I can use the laptop is to disconnect the battery.
Can anyone suggest anything?
I would also like to disable the battery instead of having to open it up to disconnect, is this possible?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks

My battery all of a sudden won't charge. The computer works with remaining battery (when AC is not plugged in). The computer works with the battery removed when plugged in. But if battery is in and the computer is plugged into the outlet, it does not charge the battery, nor does it recognize that it is plugged in. It only tries to run on the remaining battery. WHen the battery is in and the computer is using the AC adapter, I get a blinking white light next to the plug for the AC adapter. I have two separate batteries, and it is doing the same thing on both batteries. I have tried deleting the  Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and the Microsoft AC Adapter in the Device Manager section. It didn't fix my problem. I also used HP Support Assistant's HP Battery Check diagnostic tool. It says my "battery is functioning correctly, but the AC adapter is not attached. To completely test your battery, please attache the AC Adapter." The strange thing is, my AC adapter is plugged in, but the computer thinks it is not attached. So it is not recognizing my AC adapter when the battery is in. But does recognize and use the AC adapter when the battery is removed.  Does anyone have any recommendations for a fix? Thank you!

Hello there,

Let me try to resume the situation clearly enough.

Product : Toshiba Satellite A110-149

Works fine on AC adapter (just a resume from standby issue but that's because of Gentoo Linux, this used to work under Windows XP)

Original battery was dead. Not only didn't it charge but with both this battery and the AC adapter absolutly nothing happened, not a single LED on. No need to mention I couldn't turn the comp on.

Bought a new battery at AboutBatteries.com
- Replace: PA3465U-1BRS | 10.8V | 6600mAh (71Wh)

With this new battery in and the AC adapter plugged I have the power green led and the orange charging led on. But even after 8 hours and computer off the battery hasn't charged.
If I try to turn the comp on with this new battery in and the AC adapter plugged in it starts running but after a while it shuts down automatically, not matter wether I boot or enter BIOS.

BIOS is Phoenix v1.50 and I reset settings to default.
By the way, downloaded the last OS independent 1.70-WIN (bios-20090121162419.zip) but is there a way to update it without Windows?

I've tried to unplugged everything and press the power button several times (last try i kept pressing for more than 2 minutes for what that matters)

I've clean the contacts with alcohol.

Could this be because of a fuse or capacitor I could replace myself or something?

Any help would be appreciate.

Regards,
Charly

Answer:Satellite A110 Battery won't charge & won't run if battery is plugged in

Hi

I?m not quite sure what happened to the notebook but first of all you should know that notebook should power up and should run properly if the AC adaptor is connected.
The battery isn?t necessary in order to power up the unit if the AC adaptor provide the power to the notebook.

So if ONLY the battery would be affected, the unit should still run at mains.

Therefore I think its an serious hardware issue? for example motherboard problem.

I try fix with tutorial on youtube
In Bios, I try change to option Standard. Battery infomation Excellent
But cannot fix. Please help.

Does the system correctly identify the AC adapter, or does it show "unknown"?  F2 at powerup to check.
Is the battery the original one that arrived with the system?

Hi guys, I ran into this problem a few days ago where the laptop is plugged in, it says its charging, but the battery % won't go up at all. It started around 16% and each time I unplugged it for whatever reason it would go down but when I would plug it back in it wouldn't charge it back up. So now I'm at 8% and afraid to unplug it again.  I have the Energy Management set to Balanced, Maximum Battery Life, and it's status is "Charging" and "Good". Any help is appreciated, thank you guys.

Answer:Y510P "plugged in, charging" but battery is not charging

hi kanyewest,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. While having the battery and AC adapter plugged-in, boot into the BIOS (by pressing F2) and unplug the AC adapter until the system shuts off (this is to compete the discharge the battery).

2. Once the machine shuts down, remove and reinsert the battery and plugin the AC adapter then let the battery charge for about 2hrs while the machine is off and observe the battery lifght indicator. After 2hrs, power up the machine and observe the battery percentage.
     - Link to picture

If the battery is stucked at 0%, I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings as the battery may need to be replaced.

Running Windows 7 x64.One of my end users' T410 would say that it was charging, but the battery percentage would never change unless you unplugged it. Then it would get lower, but plugging it in would not recharge the battery. We tried putting her HD in a working T410, but the problem carried over. I ended up giving her a new laptop, but I would like to fix the errant T410 if at all possible. Since the problem carried over with the HD in a working T410, I figured it was a software issue.  Reinstalled Windows. No good.Did a wipe of the HD (everything 0's). Reinstalled Windows. No Good.Booted from Linux liveCD. Charging worked, but once I booted into a fresh copy of Windows, it stopped charging. So it seems that the hardware is capable of charging the battery, but not on a fresh copy of Windows: only Linux. Is there anything else I could try to get it working on Windows? Thank you for your time and have a great day.

Answer:T410 says "battery plugged in, charging" but not actually charging

Hi Hang,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

As you are facing the improper charging of battery , in that case you please need to perform the following steps and check  if the issue gets resolved.

Open Lenovo Energy Management
Click on the bottom gear icon between i and ?.
Under Battery Health, Click on Start for Battery Gauge Reset.
That should refresh the gauge and let the system finish through the cycle.

I hope the above information helps.

Hi,
I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS.
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

It looks like the problem is pretty the same as with "Ideapad Z400 or Z500 battery will not charge - plugged in not charging". My battery worked fine when the OS was Vista , Windows 8, but after windows 8.1 installation it was "plugged but no charging". I already have reinstalled the windows, nothing happened. I tried to install the same firmware as Z500, but it isn't work. Lenovo Solution Center displays battery as "Battery software not installed". Downloading and running Settings Dependency Package does not help. I can't find a new firmware in any place  Please Help! By the way, I checked my windows version, and it appears Windows 8 Pro (like it was before I tried to upgrade to win 8.1)

Hi,I have an IBM T60, my battery works fine. Lost an hour of battery life from when it was first bought, but that's not the issue. When I plug in my charger sometimes (most times), I check the battery thing in the taskbar and it says "Plugged in, not charging". I worked out how to resolve this by taking my battery out, leaving it out, while the laptop is plugged in, and then putting it back in Sometimes I get home from school and the battery is at 20%, I just charge it over night, or think i am, and it doesn't. That's the issue, I don't realise it!  please help. Thankyou.

HP g6-1b60us Notebook PCHere is the situation and symptoms. Battery not charging. Battery icon indicates battery being charged, but it sits at 5%. Have bought a replacement HP battery and that battery will not charge also (it sits at 50%, which I assume is the initial charge it came with). Run the HP Support Assistant and both batteries fail the test saying that cell 4 is bad (cells 1 to 3 have charge, but cell 4 has a 0 reading, even in the new battery). (Is there a problem accessing/charging cell 4?)When the battery is installed and the AC adaptor is unplugged, and the laptop is turned off, the battery charge LED shows a white LED (red/amber indicates that it is charging the battery); now the only time the LED goes out is when the battery is physically removed. Before the problem began, the battery charge LED would be off when the battery was installed and the charger was not being used. Now the battery charge LED goes off only when the battery is physically removed. What I have tried:Cleaned the contacts.Bought a new HP battery.Tried the complete discharge method of turning the laptop off, removing the power cord and battery and holding the power on key for over 30 seconds.Have done safe restarts.Reset to HP recommended settings.Suggestions/recommendations?

Hi, You could try taking the battery out and cleaning the connections to see if this helps. Or there could be an issue with the charger cable itself it is a difficult one this as the last thing would be the battery itself.

I have two Lenovo Y40-70 computers that I purchased within a couple weeks of each other.  They came with Windows 8.1 but I upgraded to Windows 10. A few months ago, I noticed that my computer battery meter was reading 100% for an hour.  I continued to work unplugged until the battery died while still reading 100%.  I recharged and the battery again read 100% for more than a couple hours, then died.  So the battery lifetime is as good as always, but the reading is not right.  When I reboot, it still reads 100%. Strangely, the second system, whcih I had not used for a while, was OK, but a few days later, it started doing the same thing (though it was reading 87%, the charge when the computer last worked right.  I suscpect that this happened after a critical update, which the second system went through later. Recently, I downloaded from the Lenovo website the newer power management software on both computers, and it did not help. Then I noticed the Battery recall so downloaded the "Lenovo Battery Utility 2015" to see if my system was afffected by the problem.  When I run the utility, I get the mssage "No Battery Detect."  So it would appear that there may be an issue with the software detecting the batter. Since I can't know the state of the battery (it appears to not want to recharge until it's empty, I gues because it thinks it's 100% charged), I cannot count on this computer when it's not plugged in. Now I ...
