Preferred Solution: My computer turn off and turn on automatically

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: My computer turn off and turn on automatically

Could you please share the make/model number of the computer? Also if this computer is new and under warranty have you considered returning it under warranty replacement?

I have a bit of a strange issue with my computer. Forgive me if I'm a little too descriptive, but I'm not sure which details are relevant and which are not for such a problem. First, the specs:

Model: eMachines T2984
Operating System: Windows XP Service Pack 2
Processor: Intel Celeron D Processor 340, 2.93 GHZ, 256K L2 Cache, 533 MHZ FSB
Power Supply Unit: Bestec Model: ATX-250-12E REV: P7
Motherboard: I can't tell, but it appears to be an Intel motherboard by the number of Intel labels on it
RAM: 512 MB DDR SD originally, added 1 GB a couple of months ago
Let me know if you need anything else...

Yesterday, I got home from shopping around 1PM, and I tried to start the computer. I pushed the power button, and nothing happened. I checked all of the cords, and they were all plugged in. Not knowing what else to do, I opened up the case to see if there was something obviously wrong. The only thing that I noticed (other than a bunch of dust) was that the power supply unit was still hot. I shut the computer down about 5 hours earlier after about 20 minutes of use, so it seemed strange that the power supply was still hot. I unplugged the computer just in case there was some sort of fire hazard.

At this point, I called a friend who suggested that the problem might be with the motherboard or the power supply unit.

A few hours later, I plugged it back in to try to get it to work. As soon as I plugged it in, the entire unit suddenly started "running" by itsel... Read more

Answer:Computer Doesn't Turn on, Fans and Some Lights Turn on Automatically

I would suspect that the Power Supply Unit (PSU) is going south. If you have a spare one laying around, install it and see if the problem goes away.
You can buy a new, better PSU from Newegg for about $40.00. I have used a Thermaltake 430 watt in one of my machines for some time now and it works well.
You will have to check the size of your PSU to be sure a new one will fit into the eMachine.
Here's the page with that PSU on it. It's the last one on the list.

I've had this message on screen, alternating with "Installing update 2 of 2.." for well over 6 hours now!

How long can it take? At some point I'm gonna have to bite the bullet - what should I do?

(Windows XP, SP3. I think the Windows update is something to do with the .NET framework?)

If you have got an XP install disc to do a recovery if it goes bad, i'd just hit the reset button, and boot into safemode straight away [press F8 as it is booting] then schedule a chkdsk and restart.

to schedule chkdsk...

Go to "my computer" and right click on the drive windows is on.

Select "properties" then go to the "tools" tab and click "check now" on the error checking section.

It will tell you that it cant perfrom it and ask you do you want to schedule it for next time...
click "yes" and reboot.Click to expand...

I have a Packard Bell Intel Pentium 3 on Windows ME. It used to turn off automatically but recently I have hd to turn it off manually. This is okay but every time I turn it back on the computer has to go through the improper shut down message checking for errors. If I re-boot to an earlier time it works for a few days then back to square 1. Any ideas?

My operating system is windows xp. I would like my computer to automatically turn itself on (power up) each morning at 6:30 am. Does anyone know how to do this or of a freeware software program that would permit me to create such a setting?

Answer:How can I get computer to automatically turn itself on each morning?

Enter your BIOS on startup, go to the Power Management section and you might possibly find an option there to allow the computer to turn on at a given time.
Different computers use different ways to access the BIOS, see below for a list of many of them.

I have a laptop running Windows XP. When I first turn on the computer my X-Cleaner program automatically starts loading and running. This is a nuisance to me as I would rather run it when I am ready to turn off my computer. I have read that if I go to the start up folder that is the place to remove programs that run automatically at start up. The problem is the program is not there. I also read that I need to go to the registry if I don't find it in start up. I don't know how to go to the registry and then how to do whatever I need to in order to change this from occurring. If anyone knows how, can you please let me know?

Thank you,

Adrine

Is it possible to make a specific software that i have downloaded on my pc turn on automatically whenever my computer turns on without me having to do anything?

Answer:How to have a software turn on automatically when my computer turns on

You can add it to the starup programs. Here is how:

1. Make a shortcut of this program on the desktop.
2. Press Start and type shell:startup, then press Enter
3. Drag the shortcut of your program into the folder that just opened
4. Close the folder

With the next boot, that program will start automatically.

Whenever i turn on my computer, it loads the desktop, then a few seconds after it has loaded, it automatically restarts

This happens in a repeated cycle

However, if i make it so the computer has a lot to load early on, such as clicking on firefox or media player a few times, it seems to load these programs, obviously very slowly, and then the computer does not restart itself. IS this something to do with the computer being too busy to "think" about restarting?

I searched the forums, and google, but none of the problems i found seemed to restart in the same circumstances, and they didnt say anything about loading programs early on

I have turned off "auto restart on system failiure", as this seems to be common in the restarting posts, but not tested what happens apon turning the computer on yet.
Also, if this is the problem, then i don't like the idea that my system is failing every time i turn it on.

Thank you for your time

I have a Lenovo H320 desktop that I bought about a month ago. I'm trying to get it to turn on automatically every morning. In the bios there is a "Wake on Alarm" under "Power". I can set a wake date and the computer will turn on as expected. However, I don't see any way to get it to turn on every day at a set time. It will only allow me to set on specific wake date, which works, but then I have to go in each day and set it for the next day. I've used this feature before with computers and they usually have an "Every day" setting where you put in the specific date, but this computer doesn't seem to have that. I'm thinking maybe there is some special characters I can put in the date fields that will make it wake up every day. I've seem bios screens that don't have this feature at all and I've seem them to that, but when they do they always have an "Every day" setting, which make sense because there isn't much use in setting it to wake up just one time on one specific day. Does anyone know if there is a way to set the "Wake on Alarm" to wake every day? I sure don't see it.

This post is now just shy of 3 years old.  I have exactly the same issue.  Support does not provide any help.  With this lack of information, I will not buy another Lenovo product.

I just put together my first computer 6 months ago. It abruply shutdow in the middle of writing a paper for school. I couldn't turn it back on right away. after trying a few times, it turned on. All the fans are working even the fan on the power supply, the motherboards lights are on. My graphic card in on the motherboard. I think it might be my power supply because when I first put it together I didn't plug in the smaller power connection to the motherboard and the same thing is happening, black screen. It's like my computer isn't giving my monitor any feed. I will have more info when I get home. I can't get in to bios or safe mode.

I am using a client computer that is connected to a modem via a LAN cable which is in a neighboring house as far as about 50 meters. The host computer is there. The host computer is only using Internet Connection Sharing (without a router) to share its Internet connection with me. Within this network there are only two computers, the one I use (as client) in my house and the other one is the host computer as I mentioned earlier.

How do I know that the host computer is being turned on or off?

The purpose is to know so that I can use all the bandwidth from the modem when the host computer is not turn on. Because there are no restrictions on bandwidth from the host computer, and I just wanted to use all the available bandwidth only when the host computer is not turned on.

Both computers use Windows 7.

after serching all night to find out why his computer is in limbo, i leave my brother's house without finding needed help. his computer won't turn off...the fan, a couple little lights until he unplugs it from the wall. first, the computer did a restart all by itself, he said, then it would not turn on, except the fan and little lights inside that won't turn off. he took out the hard drive and it functions in his other computer...he puts the hard drive back into the new computer and it will not turn on or completely turn off that fan. he tried the "hold the on/off button for at least five seconds" step and nothing changes. he has had the computer for a year and a half, so he really wants to figure this out. how can he even get it to turn on so he could do a safe start up? so far we cannot find a way to troubleshoot. he have checked the cords, perhaps there was a freeze up that began this loop and that's why the fan stays on? please say this is something you have heard of and there may be a solution. the advice we have found usually goes back to buying a new computer. thanks in advance, tea

Is there a way to make an XP home machine turn on automatically?

I need to do this because the Pc doesnt get used much and if im not around no one will do a virus scan so i need to set it as a task, but you can bet the PC will be off when its set for.

Also its just the one Admin account on there with no other accounts but all of a sudden we are not allowed to change the background due to not having permission to do so.

We had permission before.

So any idea on these 2 problems will be great.

thanks in advance

Answer:Set a PC to turn on Automatically

On the first point, I can't think of a way. However, as it's not used much, it's not likely to get infected much either. Why not just do a virus scan every time you use it?

On the second point, I'm not in Vista at present so I can't check, but all users, including admin, are logged in with User Access Control. You would need to turn this off in User Accounts to change permissions.

I'm using Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. I have my power options set to turn off the monitor after 20 minutes and the computer is not set to sleep or hibernate.

When over 20 minutes has expired, the monitors do not turn off. On rare occasion they do, though (by 'they' I am referring to dual monitors).

I Googled this issue and tried disabling "Allow this device to wake the computer" on the properties page for that network device in device manager. This didn't help. What could be preventing my displays from automatically turning off? Note that during this time I have torrents running, so I'm not sure if it is indeed still the network connectivity that is causing this issue. I never had this kind of problem in Windows XP.

Answer:Monitors will not automatically turn off

There's probably some software running that's preventing the monitors to shut off. Maybe a software emulated a user's presence.

Could be that the system detect faint mouse movement even when it's not really moving. If you are using a very high dpi settings, try lowering it to test.

Think of other things along these lines. Use a 1 minute timer to shut off the monitors to test out things you try.

To the best of my knowledge, this is a built in feature of computers to prevent themselves from overheating. In hot weather, even if the computer is off, it sometimes runs the fan for safety purposes. It's nothing to worry about.

Hi, I have a Lenovo Ideapad Z470 with Windows 8.1, and I'm wondering if there's any way to automatically turn on the wifi, instead of pressing Fn+F5 to switch it on via the "Lenovo Wireless Device Settings" (of Lenovo Energy Management). Back when I was using Windows 7, it wasn't a problem for me, the wifi is automatically turned on whenever I start my computer. When I upgraded to Windows 8.1, I also installed the Lenovo Energy Management Software for Windows 8/8.1 but the Fn+F5 only toggles on/off the Airplane Mode, and I often could not turn on my wifi by any means. But as per recommendations in other threads of the Lenovo communtiy, I uninstalled Lenovo Energy Management for Windows 8 and installed its Windows 7 edition instead. Since then I can switch on the wireless settings on/off again by pressing Fn+F5. However, very often that they are set OFF by default on startup. So, I am wondering if there is a way to automatically turn the wireless settings ON by default on startup, like a registry fix or an event task or some other solutions? Regards, TK

I use to have my HP6900 series printer hooked up with a USB cable from the computer to the printer. The printer could be off and if sent a print command it would turn on, and print. I recently hooked it up with a network cable off the modem/router so that I could also print from some laptops. Well, it no longer wakes up and prints. I have to turn the printer on, and then send the print job. I have looked in the printer setup and see nothing that would correct this.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I got this HP laptop a little while back, Windows 8. If I play any kind of audio on it it makes the quieter parts loud to match the higher audio of whatever it is I'm playing. I need to turn this off. I record and produce music and it's hard to get the levels right when it changes volume automatically.

Answer:Audio stabilizes automatically. How do I turn this off?

What soundcard and what kind of media player do you use for media playback?
Check for "Loudness Equalization" in sound settings or "Normalize" in your media player.

Got an ASDL broadband connection which has a limit of 20 hours per month. With my previous dial-up connection I could configure it to automatically dial up when I opened Internet Explorer and to disconnect when I closed it.Is there a way of doing the same with the ASDL connection? It seems to be connected whenever the computer is booted up - which means I'll soon exceed the 20 hour limit unless I remember to disable the connection manually.System details:Dell Inspiron 8100 running Windows 2000 professional.Netopia 3300Series USb Network Adapter connection connected through USB port (Not working via Ethernet but that's another story)ISP is Ireland's semi-state owned Eircom (click here)

Answer:Automatically turn on/off ASDL connection.

Check in start/all programs/start,and see if the connection is in there if it is right click and send it to the desktop then delete the short cut fron there, that should stop it connecting at boot.To have it turn on and off go into IE properties/connections click the settings/ advanced then tick disconect when conection may no longer be needed.

Hi. I just built a new computer, and it has 4 case fans, with lights, and 2 lighted fans on the power supply. This is in my room, and awfully bright if I leave on. I've looked into fan speed controllers, but was wondering, is there a way to have them automatically turn off when I put my computer into sleep mode? I have a clear acryllic case, so thats my biggest problem right there. Thanks.

Answer:Can I have fans turn off automatically in sleep

If by sleep you mean standby, then you should be able to do that. In the bios, you should be able to select the suspend mode. Chose s3 rather than s1. s1 leaves the fans on, s3 turns them off.

Answer:Satellite A100 (PSAAN) turn off automatically

This is a clear case for me.

The described issue is related to the overheating.
Overheating are caused by different reasons but the main reason are dust and debris inside the cooling modules.
The cooling modules cannot work with best performance due to the dust and this leads to a higher temperature and finally to a overheating.

The notebook shuts down automatically to prevent the hardware from damage.
I think if you would clean the fans carefully then you should be able to solve this annoying issue.

The compressed air spray can be very helpful. This is a professional tool and can be purchased from most computer dealers.

I'm currently running Windows 7 and McAfee SecurityCenter. Just within the past couple of days, I've noticed that the Firewall protection option of McAfee has been turned off. When trying to turn in back on again, it immediately turns off. I think it might be some sort of virus, trojan, etc....

This is a recent problem, been using this monitor/pc set up for half a year without any problems, now all of a sudden if my computer is shut down for any period of time and turned back on, the monitor will not display anything until I unplug my usb mouse or keyboard. Doesn't matter which one but I have to unplug one of them and plug it back in and the monitor immediate starts working after that.

I have unplugged the monitors hdmi cable and plugged it back in and that doesn't work, unplugged the cable going to the video card and plugged it back in and that doesn't make it work either. It seems to only work exclusively with the usb peripherals unplug/replug for some odd reason. Restarting the computer and putting it in sleep mode then waking it works perfectly fine.

I am not sure what the problem is, the power supply is relatively new, replaced the original one 3 months ago, but I suppose there is still a chance it could go bad but everything works perfectly fine. I play World of Warcraft, Guild Wars 2, and Tera just fine. I also play more intensive games like the new skyrim special addition with about a dozen mods, fallout 4 & Witcher 3 with mods, things that will make the CPU/GPU draw more power and there has never been a crash or noticeable issue. I have even overclocked the cpu/gpu for benchmark records and there was never any issues with that. Note I do not keep them overclocked, they were for updated benchmarks for a site I am on where you can attac... Read more

i recently bought a new video card, processor, psu and motherboard.what seems to be the problem? i really dont have any idea why my systems shuts down. i replaced the new psu with another one but it turned off again. the technician revived it but after hes gone it turns off again.is it the mainboard or the psu? or any component?thnx.

Answer:Why does my system shuts down automatically and doesnt turn on again?

Firstly, are you sure the PSU you installed is of sufficient wattage? If it's not, that's your problem. Also make sure your PSU's ATX motherboard connector is securely locked into your motherboard.

If those are not the problem then when you start your computer, does it POST (Beep at startup)? If it does, describe the beeps it gives, long and short in order. These beeps are the power-on self test which tests your hardware to ensure it works, if something isn't working it will give a certain beep sequence which tells you what the problem is if you know your BIOS's beep codes.

Also, along with the beep sequence, we need to know what BIOS you are running.

I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and all has been great except one thing. When I leave the computer for about 10 minutes or so, the display turns off like it is supposed to. If I want to turn the display back on though, I find I'm unable to with the mouse, keyboard, or power button. It's like it is stuck in limbo and I have to restart the PC. What's wrong with it?

Answer:Display won't turn back on after automatically turning off

IS this a Dell? Some Dell computers will go into some damned low-power mode, and the power light will change to Orange. The only way I have been able to fix it, was to put in a new power supply. I've done this for 2 workstations already.

Check your Power Light, is it Green or Orange, or blinking? If the computer is in sleep mode, it will Blink on and off once a second. Other blinking patterns are error codes. Sometimes a system will just get stuck in Sleep mode and you have to force it back on.

When you are trying to wake the system, does the Monitor come back on? I've had computers stall like this.

Try changing your advanced power settings:

Usually you can get to it by Control Panel, Power, Power Scheme, and open your scheme and go into Advanced. Try changing the values for "hard Drive Power Down", change it to 45 minutes. Also, try setting it so that the Monitor does not turn off, just enable toe screensaver after 15 minutes or so, then test it, make sure it recovers from Screensaver.

I don't know if you are just telling your monitor to go off or if you are allowing the computer to go into Sleep mode, I would change the Monitor Off to "Never" and just tell it to sleep after an hour of non-use.

Just try different variations, with the monitor turning off or staying on. You can always choose a Blank Screensaver.

I have just purchased a Maxtor 200 GB 7200 rpm external hard rive in a "BYTECC" case for my Win 2K machine. I had no real problems putting it together and getting it running but now when I shut down the computer it does not shut down. I have to turn off the switch every time and then turn it on each time I boot up. It also runs constantly. I have another 260 GB external hard drive which shuts down when I shut the computer down and stops running after a few minutes of not being accessed. I never did anything to get it to do this and I thought this was natural. How can I get my new hard drive to do the same as the the old one?

Any advice is appreciated.

Hi. For some bizarre reason, Lenovo forgot to let us keep the backlit keyboard on after the computer sleeps or even when we just close the lid. Now I have to turn it on every.single.time. Any way to run a bat or command to turn it on automatically when we log in? I know this will not solve the close-lid situation, but it'll be 50% solved for me. Thanks. ps: PLEASE Lenovo, release a BIOS update with an option to let us keep the backlit on all the time. Or any fairly inteligent app to remember the state of the backlit.

Hi,
I was in the middle of my revision using my laptop stated above, when it just turned off, it was plugged into the mains, so it was not the battery to that effect. But it will not turn on again, I unplugged it from the mains and normally when it is plugged into the mains it will ackowledge this with a light but neither is working. Also when I push the power button on or off mains it will not turn on.

I purchased the laptop december 2009 and this happened the first week that I had it but the computer was hot to the touch and theresfore it over heated but this time the laptop was not even warm and had only been on for 1/2 hour. I decided to leave it a couple of hours, and when i tried again the base of the laptop is cold to the touch but it still will not turn on.

I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what is wrong with it

Many thanks.

Hi

Are any of the LEDs on, while the AC adaptor is connected?
If not, then there could be something wrong with the AC adaptor or the notebook?s motherboard.
But if you are 100% sure that the AC adaptor is ok, then there could be a serious issue with the notebook.

It?s hard to say what could be wrong here?as mentioned; if the LEDs don?t shine, then mobo might be affected? if the power LED in ON, then you should check the memory modules? in some cases the notebook would not power up due to faulty memory modules? so it?s definitely worth a check?

What exactly 'jumps backwards and forwards', is it the mouse or the webpage?

I know Google and some other Search Engines have a function in javascript where if you use the 'Up' or 'Down' arrow-key, it will select the next or previous search result.
Google's blue arrows: I hate it, turn it off! - State of Digital

For Google, the only way i know to disable it would be to disable 'Instant Search' or Javascript.
In my opinion though, it is a pretty useful feature if i do not have a mouse in hand.

Have a good day ^^.

And yours should be in the BIOS setup where you can turn on the numlock by default. You will have to look through all the BIOS options to see if you have that option listed in there. But if you looked through the complete BIOS settings and find none then it most likely means there isn't a option to set it by default.

My Dell N7110 installed Win 10 free update nicely. Had some minor quirks but fixed and had to install updated software for HP products. Problem arose, when during Anniversary update, my mouse started connect/disconnect. Traced it to a bad wire at the mouse. Bought a new Microsoft wireless mouse. Plugged it in-works. But--on "Retarts" for installation of software, and on updates, at Restart black screen got message "unable to find operating system". Hard boot-started and loaded flawlessly. Tried the "restart" from the power icon-"can't find operating system". After three days of scouring the net, pulled the "dongle" out after restart screen opened, restarted normally. Went into "Bluetooth controls" turned off "Bluetooth" and tried restart, worked normally even with dongle in. And, the wireless mouse works fine. I think having the Bluetooth on and having a Bluetooth transmitter, combined to mix up the computers bios. Is there a fix for this, so I can leave the Bluetooth on for my other devices and still use the wireless mouse? For the moment, I went out and bought a new "old school" wired USB mouse and there are no issues with the Bluetooth on and the wired mouse with "restarts".

... and then turn back on again when the T61p is undocked. I have a co-worker who also has a T61p, and his wireless adapter behaves exactly like this.  That is, when the laptop is docked, the wifi gets disabled (you can see it happen while watching the Device Manager window in XP -- it gets a red 'X').  When the laptop is undocked, the wifi turns back on again, automatically.  There's wired Ethernet connected to the dock, so when docked the T61p uses the wired connection, and when undocked the wireless automatically turns on and connects.  This is perfect behavior for our use here. I can't figure out how to get this functionality.  The co-worker says he doesn't recall setting this up -- it just happened. (I looked at the Access Connections utility supplied with the T61p, but I can't figure out how to get it to detect the docked/undocked states as different "locations."  But the co-worker isn't using the Access Connections utility anyway, so it probably doesn't matter.) Does anyone know how to get the T61p to do what I want?  Thanks.

Answer:I want WiFi radio to automatically turn off when T61p is docked

You need to select the "Use Best Available connection" option (or similar, I forget the exact wording) in your Access Connection profile. This will automatically switch to a wired connection if one is available. Cheers, Bill

I've seen this asked here several times, and the answer, as I recall from Lenovo staff, is "no".  It's a physical switch toggle with the Fn key and there isn't any software to substitute for that.

I'm wondering how to schedule a T500 to automatically turn it self on in the morning using BIOS settings? Also, I don't see any options to do that in the current BIOS, is there a update that has the feature? My school system has hundreds of Dells that have this feature, I'm assuming that Lenovo must have it too.

Answer:How to schedule a T500 to automatically turn on in the morning via BIOS?

Don't know if there is a BIOS feature per se to do this,  but the Vista/Win7 Task Scheduler can be set up to bring the system out of sleep (and hibernate, which is as close as you can get to powered off) and run a task that you specify at the times you desire.  It will only work if the computer is in sleep or hibernate modes, however; not when it is shutdown.  Right click on Computer, click on 'manage'; then Task Scheduler.  Choose the 'Create a task' option (but not the 'Basic Task', since it won't present all the options) and on the 'conditions' tab choose 'wake the computer to run this task'.

i have a lenovo g400, once i turn on it only the lenovo name appears in the screen and then it turn off automatically and then turn on and turn off again and so on... also I was having problem that my Lenovo G400 laptop did not display Press F2 to Enter Setup during the boot process, and because of this, no amount of hammering the F2 button would allow access to the BIOS.  I attempted all of the standard fixes, pulled the battery, held power down for 30 seconds, removed the HDD -- nothing would cause this to appear. i dont know whats the problem of my laptop..please help me to fix it..

Answer:LENOVO G400 TURN OFF AUTOMATICALLY AND NOT LOAD BIOS SETUP

hi PRAY2431,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Can you try to access the BIOS by pressing the OneKey Recovery button.
 - Link to picture

If you manage toget in, try prssing F9 to reload factory defaults then press F10 to save and exit (this should reset the hardware configuration of the machine).

If you still can't get into the BIOS and the machine still turns off after POST (lenovo screen) then there's likely a hardware component that's failing. If you have a spare PC, try to create a Lenovo Bootable USB Diagnostics and boot from it by pressing F12.

Alternatively, you can contact Lenovo (for service) or contact one of the Lenovo Authorized Service centers below

I read that some members don't like that thundering voice. Here's the link that tells you how to turn it off.

Hi everyone,

While turning on my computer the it turns on, fans are starting to move, but screen won't turn on, and the beep of the bios is not heard.

pressing the sleep/reset button next to the turn-on button computer goes off, pressing it again turns on the computer without any problem. (now I'm working with the same computer) i thought maybe it's the power supply that gives me problem but changed between computers, this still gives me trouble and other computer works good (besides its many problems ). any idea what to do?

Thanks in advance
Chaim.

BTW, while trying to write this thread I got all this terms that i didn't know how to call in English, like power supply - is that the box which connects to the power and to all the m-board and drives? is there an English computer terms dictionary?

Just got a new to me P3 computer up and running. Sometimes during star up it does not recognize the PS2 keyboard. Which makes it hard to go into my password protected User ID. When trying to shut down it will keep a few things running like some fans and the CD drive. But it does not sound like the Hard Drive is spinning.

If I use the XP to shutdown it goes into this limbo stage of neither off nor on, same goes for the power button on the front of the computer. It will either start up the computer or turn it to the limbo mode. Upon starting up, I can use the mouse to get it all the way into a non password protected XP users screen but can't do anything without the keyboard working. In the process of setting up I have had everything working earlier today but this keyboard and limbo status has been an intermitent problem. What should I try?
Thanks

So I had a problem with my T500's backlight initially and long story short, disassembling the computer has now caused the problem in the title. Whenever I plug in the battery/charger and push the power button, the fan will spin and the hdd will whirr a bit, but then after about 3 seconds, the fan will stop and the hdd will click off and cease whirring. The computer will no longer respond to the power button regardless of how many times nor how long the power button is held. I'm looking directly at the wires that carry power. Everything seems to be plugged in. I did the lenovo power trick (IE the 10 one second presses followed by the 30 second long press) and the computer does the 1-3-3-1 beep when I take out the RAM. The monitor is not plugged into it in any way, shape, or form. I do not know if this affects it. However, I have tried attaching the monitor and it still does this. Is there a piece that may have been knocked loose or something? I'm willing to try anything right now because at this point it's a literal brick now.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T500 will turn on for roughly 3 seconds, then turn off and stay off.

Hi npesina, welcome to the forums,

there could be different reasons for the system behaving the way you describe, my suggestions;

remove all hard, SSD and optical drives to see if you experience the same,
remove all RAM, without replacing the drives, and test to see if you receive a system beep code,
remove all components which had previously been removed to test again.

The ultimate test would be to remove everything attached to the mainboard including the CMOS (BIOS) battery excluding the power socket, CPU and the fan. When you attach the power cable the system should come to life, the fan should run and beep codes sound.  After that its really just a case of putting the system back together one component at a time testing inbetween each component replacement, leave the main battery and CMOS battery until last to save having to always connect / disconnect the keyboard in order to turn the system on.

If at any point you experience the same issue as now it may well be that the component you replaced at that point or it's attachment socket on the mainboard  is the culprit.

Hi... lenovo gave me a replace computer... y70-70  According to them, the laptop is a new one and not a rebuilt one... Since the first day I picked it up and used it at home... When I turn it on, starts a pitched noise and it ends when I turn the laptop off. That sound is so annoying to work I can´t work more than one hour due to the annoying noise/sound...   That sound does not come from the speakers... What can I do? what is the problem? I need a quick response because I am travelling to another country in few days and I won´t come back until 6 months before. Regards

This is a peer to peer forum. Only Lenovo staff can decide for return, repair, etc. So better make a call to them.
