Preferred Solution: Speaker problem - No sound in one desktop speaker

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Speaker problem - No sound in one desktop speaker

When you borrowed your friends speakers, was it the same speaker, left or right, that didn't work? If so, it must be a bad jack on your computer. Plugs and jacks work on simple physical contact with a spring like action and sometimes they get warped.Sometimes you can push the contacts back into the right position, and sometimes you can't. Open up your case, power off of course, plug in your speakers, and see if you can see where the plug and the jack are missing contact (not always possible).

Answer:Speaker problem - No sound from one desktop speaker

It very much sounds like a defective female jack receptacle on the "speaker/lineout" output. I assume that your results from the headset status was done from the headset/microphone jack as opposed to the "speaker" jack? If these are powered speakers you can try them in the headset output and at least determine if both speakers work. Alternatively you can also test your speakers on another computer to eliminate the possibility of a defective speaker.I don't know if your audio software provides for a left/right speaker mute if so you might check to ensure whichever side is not producing audio is NOT muted. I again assume this is a recent occurrence to something that had previously worked properly? Have you recently changed anything associated with the sound? Is your sound on-board or a standalone card?truenorth

Hi Everybody!

All of a sudden my speaker icon is missing from taskbar & sound is only coming through the LEFT speaker. The RIGHT speaker is still working but you can only hear SOME sound and it's very low, all the rest of the sound is going to the LEFT speaker now and the volume icon on the taskbar is gone now so I can't even check the settings there. This all happened out of nowhere! Everything had been working fine for a long time before this happened. I don't understand.

Is this some kind of malware problem rewriting the codes or something? I saw this could be the problem on previous posts. I am NOT knowledgeable with computers but I learn fast if you can walk me through the steps.

I have windows 7 professional on a 32 bit system.

The option "Show or hide volume (speaker) icon on the taskbar" in the Control Panel is grayed out and I cannot change the setting on it.

I've been looking thru past threads and I'm still not finding a solution that works for me.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated!!

Thanks so much!!!
:cool

Hi I dunno much but I have this suggestion, try to open your case and see what sound card you have. If it come with your mainboard, use your mainboard disc and isntall the driver for the soundcard.. If it is an external card, try to identified the brand and series..(i never have an external soundcard before so dunno if brand and series usually write on the card or not..mine come with the mainboard) and then google for the site of the brand and look for the driver... Hope it work for you.

My right computer speaker took a spill.  There is static and the volume won't turn up.When plugged into the power, there is static and buzzing.  When also plugged into the computer, there is static and no buzzing, and I can hear music very faintly.  This is unaffected by the position of the volume knob.  The volume knob itself is pressed in from the frame a ways, I don't know if it was already like that.  I think it wasn't, but it doesn't seem like it's moveable at all (back into place, I mean - it still sturns like it's supposed to).   When the left speaker is plugged into the right one, the left works well and the volume knob does have the desired affect on that speaker, with no change in the static from the right one. What is wrong with my speaker?  It sounds like something must be disconnected.  I'm hoping it's a lose wire or something else I can fix.  Also, plugging the left speaker directly to the computer works but is unamplified (not ideal)- is that okay to do?Any help or further information is much appreciated.

Hi- this is my 1st post!

Anyway, I wasn't really sure where to post this, so hopefully its alright in this room. Basically I've had a problem with the sound on my computer- or the lack of it!

The monitor has a built in speaker, which hasn't been producing any sound for a while, I've tried plugging in headphones, but it still didn't work. Its has worked before, but hasn't worked for the last 3/4 months. We have a reasonably old computer (Packard Bell), the OS is Windows XP.

Any help or advice, would be greatly Appreciated!

I am using:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP1; internal speakers (laptop)
-----

I cannot adjust my volume control or any other sound/audio properties - a dialog box comes up saying "There are no active mixer device available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware."
All the options in "Sound and Audio Devices Properties" have also been greyed out.

I've tried what the dialog box suggests - but my sound devices have already been installed. Windows alert sounds can be heard, music in Internet Explorer can be heard, but Windows Media Player music cannot. Nothing wrong with my speakers, I don't think!

I haven't any hardware or software recently. The drivers appear to be working fine, at least it says so in Device Manager.

I, being the complete and utter noob that I am, do not have any idea what is wrong and how I can fix it. Anyone who can help? Thank you (in advance)!

Hi,

Normally there will be no more sound from the speaker, when i inserted my earphone or headphone into the computer.

Now even after i inserted there still sound from the speaker. How can i set it so there will be no more sound after earphone is inserted?

Thanks

Answer:Sound and speaker problem

The RealTek control panel should have the options for what the rear speaker jack does (either mute or not when the front headphone is connected).

You can access the Realtek panel from Start/Control Panel/Hardware and Sound.

I use a 4.1 surround sound setup with onboard sound, and I can't seem to get sound from my rear speakers. I only get sound from the front. I didn't update any new sound drivers, and used the Microsoft and ATI ones.

When I do the sound test, it shows that the 4 speakers show some sound activity from the green status bar.

But no sound is coming from the rear speakers. I switched my speakers around to test if the speakers themselves are faulty (and they aren't). I went to the RealTek website and downloaded the latest driver. After installation it prompted me to restart. After restart, all my files in my desktop disappeared! My rear speakers are still not making any sounds after the new driver. I did a system restore to get my desktop files back.

I had nearly the exact same problem when I used Windows XP x86 (the difference being my desktop files weren't deleted when I installed the latest RealTek driver in Windows XP).

These speakers used to be connected to a Sound Blaster card from an old computer, and the surround sound worked on that.

Can anyone help me?

Hi, I just purchased a SONY VAIO desktop computer and decided not to use the stock speakers, but to use my Viewsonic speakers. It didn't make any sound! Nevertheless, when I tried with the stock SONY (cheap) speakers, then it works.

Observation: The plugs of both speakers are exactly the same size and type. They both have AC plug for power. I tested the Viewsonic speakers on another desktop computer and it worked perfectly.

Anyone knows what the heck is going on?

Thanks

Answer:Strange PC speaker/sound problem.. please help

Hi and welcome to TSF

Although the speaker plugs are the same I wonder if they are wired to operate on the same channels.

Try going to Sound and Audio Devices in the control panel and on the volume tab go into Speaker settings>Advanced>Speaker Set-up and try changing the set-up on the drop down menu.

Let us know how it goes.

This is a really weird situation. I walked across a carpet and then touched the volume knob on my 2.1 computer speakers to turn them down, but when I walked across the carpet I built up a static charge and when I touched the knob the charge jumped about a 1/4 of an inch and went into either the bass knob or volume knob. After that happened I heard a loud pop from the speakers and then they stopped working. I unplugged them and plugged them in and they started working again, but now the bass knob doesn't do anything, the speakers constantly pump out full bass. I have no clue what is wrong, I would have thought it would be the rheostat, but that should stand up to low current high voltage shouldn't it?

Answer:Problem with my speaker's bass sound

The static charge probably "burned out" the bass control circuit. That "small" spark could have been in the 100,000 volt range. Could this damage? YES!

Hi I just got a new Lenovo Yoga 710 14IKB today and i've been noticing that sometimes when I'm watching video's on Youtube the sound only starts playing after 5 seconds. So the video is already playing but the sound starts at 0:05 (the delay is always the same amount of time). I don't have this problem with every video, it seems to be a random thing and it only happens when watching videos on speaker, the problem does not happen when I'm listening through my earphones. It's not a major problem but it's still quite annoying. Is there a way I can fix this myself? I'm not realy knowledgeable when it comes to these kind of things, the only thing I know how to do is reinstall the drivers.

I recently discovered a difference in the volume; the left speaker of the laptop has been functioning normally while there seems to be very low to no sound coming from the right speaker.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 5559 Audio - Right Speaker has low volume while the left speaker functions normally

Hello. You didn't mention the headphone jack, so if you have not yet done so, plug in headphones and see if the balance is okay in them. If the headphones check out okay, then most probably it's a problem related to the speakers.
The test for speakers is the ePSA audio test. It is a hardware test, which means that if the test  tones are very low in the right speaker, but normal in the left speaker, then there is hardware failure somewhere, related to the right speaker.
If both speakers sound normal during the test, then the problem is in the software. Do the usual things like re-install the audio driver, check the balance levels in the Sound properties, try different audio sources, etc.
Re-installing the audio driver resets the settings to their default configurations, so if you do it then you don't have to bother with things like volumes and balance settings, because they will be okay.(Also if the balance is okay through headphones, then it should be okay through the speakers too.)
Here is how to do a simple driver re-install:
1.    Open the Device Manager.2.    Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" category.3.    Right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".4.    Click "uninstall".5.    Do not check the box to “delete the driver software for this device”. 6.    Restart the computer. Windows will detect your device a... Read more

How can I setup the speaker to mute, while can external speaker keep not mute?

Answer:Satellite A350 -How to mute internal speaker while plug in external speaker

> Any one know how I can mute the internal speaker while plug in the external speaker?

I assume you have an Realtek sound card and the Realtek HD audio manager should appear in the control panel.

Please check this Realtek HD audio manager.
In Speakers tab on the right you will see the options ?Analog? & ?Digital?.
Click right on one of the option and check if you could see some options which provide a setting in order to mute the speakers.

You will see also option called: Device Advantage settings.
Check this too.

PS; my notebook switches the internal speakers automatically if the headphones have been plugged in.
I read in other threads that sound driver update might help too but firstly test the settings like mentioned above.

Hey,

If this is the wrong forum for this question then I apologize in advance.

I'm having some problems when I try to record music.

I have my microphone plugged in, but whenever I sing/play into the microphone, the sound only comes out from the right speaker. Therefore, when I mix my songs using my software, the sound is still only coming out of the right speaker, which is very frustrating. This also means that if I listen to my songs on my iPod, the music is only coming out of the right headphone.

If I listen to songs from CDs or whatever, or just any other sound on the computer, the sound is coming out of both speakers simultaneously as is normal. I only have problems when I am using my microphone.

I am using Windows XP (2002 Home Edition) and Realtek HD Audio Manager. My speakers are ViewSonic Speakers, which entails a subwoofer and two smaller speakers (the left and right ones). I plug my microphone into the blue 'Line In' port at the back of my computer rather than the pink 'Microphone' port, because this is what works best for the recording/mixing software I am using, but even when it is plugged into the 'Microphone' port I have the same problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much,

Tim.

Answer:Sound problem: Mic sound only coming out of one speaker

Either the Microphone cable is not plugged in correct.Try not to plug it in all the way/or push it in further. Sometimes you have to play around with it to get them to work. Or you might have the balance on the microphone on one side which is a setting in the Sound Icon. Double click on The Icon and then options and then on Properties. Make sure There is a check mark next to Microphone and then click OK. You should see the Microphone settings on the screen and make sure the balance is in the middle. If none of this works you might need a new Microphone.

I need to be able to move around my home from room to room with a single speaker (not a pair of speakers) that provides good volume to overcome other machine noises (not extremely loud noises, but not a quiet environment either). I have tried blue-tooth (two different doggles) and several blue-tooth remote speakers (single-speaker) but the volume is not good and the reception is generally bad. The distance is not more than 20 feet or so but it is through walls (and sometimes up one flight of stairs) and my blue-tooth reception has been sporadic at best. (I haven't tried any speaker "sets" because I often move from room to room and multiple speakers are too cumbersome.)

I gave up on blue-tooth and decided to try a wired USB-powered speaker. I bought a 25 foot USB extension cord and two different USB-powered speakers which worked fine as far as the reception went (of course) but the volume was insufficient on both. I verified that the volume was up 100% on computer as well as on the speakers themselves.

I have small BOSE computer speakers (positioned at left and right sides of monitor) connected to my desktop computer for normal computer activity like movies and playing music and they sound great and I never have to turn the volume up more than about half way. I would like to be able to accomplish the same with a portable remo... Read more

I have had a 5.1 speaker arrangement on my Vista x64 PC for some time. Today, the front left speaker decided to stop working correctly. When trying to plug my headphones in to a rear jack on my motherboard (onboard sound), I noticed that sound was only coming through the right earphone. I decided to give up with trying to listen through my headphones for the time being and plugged my speakers back in, only to find that now my front left speaker wasn't working correctly. I tried to adjust the balance on my speakers, as I thought I could hear a whisper of a sound through the front left.
The front left speaker is producing sound, but at a greatly reduced volume to the rest of the speakers, I have to set the balance to the following to make FL and FR speakers 'the same' volume (by ear).
FL volume: 100
FR volume: 0
I have my speakers plugged in to 3 jacks on my motherboard (out of 6).
The green jack for FL and FR.The black jack for RL and RR.The orange jack for C and SubW.I have been unsucessful installing Realtek (which is a shame, because on my last motherboard I was able to solve the problem with that somehow, but I can't remember how) as it states the drivers are not supported. Which I'm assuming means my motherboard doesn't support it.
My motherboard is an MSI Intel p35 Neo.
I have had this setup working fine for around a month. My speakers are labtec (but I don't see how that would matter).I am currently using the normal drivers that come with Vista.Any ideas?

Answer:Y510P Speaker and Headphone Problem Play sound same time together

I may have a solution. Remove any Realtek/Lenovo driver and let Windows install generic driver. If the problem persists, then my guess is it is a hardware issue with the switching mechanism.

Hi, Some things to check for? You will first want to ensure that this ?echo? effect is not being caused by a third party application. The easiest method would be to test the default Windows sounds, then try configuring the speakers, and if the issue persist to try Safe Mode - to eliminate third party software or services as the cause. Use the default Windows Sounds 1.     Click Start, click Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound, and then click Sound.2.     In the Sound window click on the Sounds (tab).3.     You will see a box with a list of items one being Asterisk.4.     Click on Asterisk, or any item in that box, and then click Test.5.     You should hear audio coming from your system.6.     If the clip was not long enough select another item, and then click Test.7.     Determine whether or not the distorted audio is present. Configure the speakers 1.     Click Start, click Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound, and then click Sound.2.     In the Sound window right-click your Speakers and select Configure Speakers.3.     Follow the on-screen setup, and Test the available configurations.4.     Indentify whether or not one configuration appears to have less of an ?echo? than others.5.     If the ... I am running Windows 10 Professional with current up-to-date updates on my Dell Inspiron Laptop.

Several days ago I noticed that plugging in current headset no longer muted the internal speaker. I know that it is not the headset as it works perfectly on another computer.
.
Doing a web search has not resulted in finding the problem, let alone a solution. Further my anti-virus is up-to-date, as are the microphone and speaker drivers.

Pointers in the direction of a solution will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:External Speaker Fails to Mute Internal Speaker

What audio codec does your laptop use?

It will be listed in device manager. The VEN DEV combo will be enough information.

You'll find it in the device properties details tab, specifically, the "Hardware IDs" section.

It will resemble this:

Code:
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0288&SUBSYS_10EC0191&REV_1000
Usually the audio codec chip itself will detect an external speaker is plugged in. Have you checked your audio device's configuration software? It should have a shortcut in the classic control panel.

My speakers intermittenly stop working.  If both left and right speakers stop working.  I can push the case to the right of the touchpad and it will start working.   If just the left is not working I can usually press to the left of the touchpad.   Also shortly after this started the Left side USB stopped working.   Any ideas  on how to fix this without sending it in?

About 4 days ago, when I started playing music over the speakers I noticed that the right speaker was wayy quieter than the left one. The one on the left sounds like it should at a medium level of volume. I've already tried directing all sound through one over the other and the diffference is significant. I've also tried playing music that is mono such that the same level of audio is expected through both speakers. I can't determine whats wrong and this is so upsetting only having had this laptop for about 2 months or so. Could you help me out?

Answer:Lenovo y510p right speaker much quieter than left speaker

hi pmadhikar,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Can you consider doing the following:
1. Uninstall the Realtek Audio Driver (reboot if necessary) and let Windows use a generic sound driver and observe
2. Use an earphones to see if the volume on the left / right speakers are balanced.

If the volume is balanced using an earphones without adjusting the sound levels under Sound Properties then it's likely that the right speaker is showing signs of imminent failure. In this case, I recommend you report your findings by contacting lenovo as you may need to get this replaced.

I tried to make a phone call can't hear and say anything to the other person (tested), also the headphones+mic aren't working either. I've seen that error is related to DRAM, but I don't have DRAM music on my phone just some mp3's ripped from some CDs. Else everything is working without any issue. 1. I have disabled sounds for windows alerts and for the modem itself and still I hear the modem dialing and trying to connect through my speaker system. Any ideas on how to disable this or what I might be missing?

2. I got a new pc and needed to add a pionner dvd burner and it is physically not possible to make them go together properly. I end up having a wide space opening cause I got to put the drive all the way back to screw it down. Also the case's face is round while as far as I know all these drives are flat on their face ends. Any clues here?

Answer:Speaker/Modem Sound problem and Case/Burner don't fit problem

Have you muted it in volume controls and control panel\modem properties

The fronts of drives are interchangeable they can be unclipped, from what you have described the front of the old drive is round to fit the case, you need to unclip it and clip it to the new drive

I recently installed a new motherboard Asus Sabertooth 990FX. It has an on-board sound card "Realtek? ALC 892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC". I'm using 5.1 surround speakers from creative. Speaker fill with windows update driver, or Realteks driver from Asus' website, has the same outcome.

The problem is that the back speakers, when playing music, sound like an mp3 playing at 24kbps or something of the sort. This is not the first time this has happened, and ever since windows vista, this problem has occurred in every on-board sound card i have dealt with. I have heard different reasons such as DirectSound3D Hal in Windows Vista being removed, on-board sound cards just sucking, drivers sucking, etc.

The only time the rear speakers sound right, is when i test the speakers with windows, with the software from Realtek, Or using some media player that i cant remember the name of anymore that had an option to fix this problem only for music played in that media player. But I just want all sound to play through them right. I don't watch movies on this computer and usually don't play any games, so i don't really care about the surround affect. I just want all the speakers putting out sound in stereo.

At this point I really don't care if i need a third party software to fix this issue and just for the record, no I do not have room in my system for an internal sound card, and I really don't want to deal with an external one either. I'd rather just never fix the i... Read more

Answer:Realtek onboard sound card with 5.1 surround speaker fill problem

The first step once confirmed that the correct drivers and by the way sound app is installed is to set to the speaker settings for 5.1 or 4 speakers depending on preference. You may want to check on the Windows sound mixer settings as well since many often forget about that other mixer being there.

The first test once the settings are looked over is going into the Control Panel>Sound section there to run the test/configuration wizard which will verify each pair of speakers first front then back as you go along. That is found in the Playback tab when first clicking on the CP>Sound and seeing the popup window appear.
(refer to attached images for both Windwos sound mixer, Sound configuration wizard)

As you will see from the second image there for the configuration wizard I use a separate expansion card(preferred here) while you would still look through that wizard. With the Creative Audio Console/Volume Panel you generally expect a move evolved mixer.volume control panel while most onboard sound setups also provide some smaller form of mixer app you would need to look at as well.

Another trip up found with some 5.1 speaker sets is on the center speaker or other volume and balance controls where sometimes tweaking them is required when it seems sound will drop off from the rear speakers. If the bass is up a bit the quality of sound from the rear pair despite having a woofer below can suffer! Then you have to tweak the tremble if these controls are present to clean up th... Read more

Hi,

I remember deleting something named "Realtek HD blah blah" from the below screen.

http://www.sevenforums.com/attachmen...1&d=1341120073

From then my normal speaker (audio jack) at the back doesn't work. But my USB speaker works.

I tried to reinstall the audio driver from my motherboard CD and nothing happens.

Please help. This is very annoying.

Answer:Analog Speaker not detected. USB speaker works

If you deleted RealTek, that is a PC sound (Integrated on the motherboard) and most likely why your speakers are not working. You must have a PC sound device, other than a USB connected device, for the speakers to work.

First step is to reinstall the RealTek drivers. Its best to get the driver either from your PC vendor or Motherboard vendor, as applicable and install that as the first step. Then make sure your "speakers" (sound card) is set as the default playback device in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Sound panel.

Today suddenly the right speaker became louder than the left speaker( I think before the two speakers had the same volume level).
Then the right speaker just stopped working and if I test it, the left plays the sound.

The left speaker sound is deep.

What can I do?

Answer:Re: Qosmio F50-10G - right speaker louder than the left speaker

Hi

Sound more like a hardware (speaker) issue as an software (sound driver) issue.
So in my opinion only the ASP in your country could be helpful.

I think the faulty speaker must be replaced?

Howdy All!

This is he mans first battle on this forum, so play nice!

I'm looking to wire a speaker and mic into a landline telephone (PSTN - Uniden FP1200).
It has a speaker phone chip - ie not just a straight up pstn phone - so in theory: I should be able to open it up and wire an extension speaker, and extension mic into it - without feedback issues - that I understand a normal, non-speaker phone would have (correct me if wrong!).

I want to have a greater distance from me to the speaker - as i speak all day on the speaker phone - and it is cooking my face.

So, I want to wire in a speaker and push it back a couple of feet.

I also want to wire in a microphone with a desktop stand so I can be closer to the mic - and hopefully reduce the "i'm calling from a spaceship toilet" vibe
A couple of questions:
1.feasible y/n?
2.can i use a usb speaker and mic (given that the speaker phone is a plug in electrical type with lcd screen etc - ie it's not just using the low voltage telephone charge to power the speaker?
3.do i need to use a non-usb mic and speaker?
4.am i up in the night (ie barking up the wrong tree, have a couple of kangaroos loose in the top paddock, a few sandwiches short of a picknic, a few sips short of a can of coke...)

Uniden FP1200 Manual

Open to suggestions, other ideas, prescription medication suggestion - whatever!! Let's ROLL!!

If the volume is low everything works fine, but once you turn it up using the volume button, the left speaker stops working. This only happens when I use the button, and not when I adjust the system sound.

I tested it with the audio configuration, and I can hear what's supposed to be the left speaker sound coming from the right speaker. Once again this is only if the volume button is turned up high enough, and it works just fine otherwise.

Another strange thing is that everything not only works right when the volume is low enough, but also when it's high enough. So the problem is not that the left speaker can't handle that much sound or something. It's only in the middle where this problem occurs. Does anyone have an idea what's going on?

Answer:Right speaker thinks he's a left speaker

Hi welcome to the forum.

Have you tried the speakers on another system or another set of speakers on yours. Try reinstalling the driver.

I have an MSI 785GTM-E45 Mother Board. I have no sound coming from the speakers. Tried new speakers and still no sound. If I click on the speaker Icon on the bottom right it shows the speaker graph going up and down as sound is being produced. I tried the head phones and nothing coming from them either. I tried playing a CD and nothing from there either. I first noticed it when I was trying to play something from YOUTUBE and thought it might just be the site but then I tried off line as well. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. This is the first day that I have noticed it. Thanks for any help. I have checked all the settings I can think of but probably have missed something somewhere.

Answer:No sound from speakers but showing sound graph on speaker control

Go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel. In the Playback section, set your "Speakers" as the Default Playback device (if it's not now set). Then see if you have speaker and/or headphone sound.

The different sound effects that make your voice sound deep ,less muffled voice, tunnel ,echo ,slow talking ,sound like you talking in small room ,car or out side.

I wont it for both music/sound/audio streaming from the internet and music/sound from the computer , I have on the computer. And be able to go in setting and turn it or off or add or remove effects.

I'm not sure but I think it was sound blaster live I had ,that had some thing similar to add effect to sound coming through the computer speaker or headphone.

Creative (ie: Sound Blaster) has had that type of setting in their software for years. The Creative/Sound Blaster software is for their chipsets only. There could be a similar audio tool that works with any audio source, but I'm not familiar with any.

Hi Folks,

I have an Acer Aspire SA80-Z970 desktop computer that I purchased about 3 years ago. Some time ago I noticed that I was only getting sound out of one speaker (right hand side). Trying different speakers or the built in monitor speakers did not solve the problem. I've tried updating drivers to no avail.
I've looked at "sound effects manager - AC97 audio control panel" and everything appears to be in order. I've even tried resetting defaults. There is a "test speakers" option there that proves only one speaker is working.
Balance settings are also all correct. As far as I am aware, this PC has an onboard soundcard. I'm running windows XP and also have Ubuntu Linux loaded on a separate partition. The same problems occurs in Linux.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks

Martin

Answer:sound from only 1 speaker

I had the exact same problem. The solution is to buy a sound card. I just fixed mine about a week ago.Card cost around $30 Canadian, just a real inexpensive one but loaded with features.
There is no fix for the onboard AC97 sound.Trust me,
been there,done that.

Hello!

What exactly kind of upgrades did you make? Have you loaded the proper sound card drivers?

Question: speaker sound

hi my speakers on monter working fine but my other speakers are only working through the left speaker can any one help please

Answer:speaker sound

I have a soundblaster card, and according to the start/ sound stuff/ etc and hardware BUT it simply isn't recognised by windows - windows thinks there's no speaker at all. I've tried their help wizard but, as usual with these things, it's useless. is there some box somewhere I have to tick? The sound has worked until today. And in fact is still works for that synth sound effect - I forget what it's called; IDEM or some crap. This may be related to me putting soundblaster programs (on the installation CD) which seemed to have been left off by Cube - I want to trap incoming sound and they appear to have programs allowing this. It's another of these annoying things....Help me get my sound back and continue with the next obstacle, please

Hi...I am having difficulties with the sound on my PC..I have via chipsets with on board sound. The thing is my on board sound has been working perfectly for ages. I was able to listen to sound both on the internal PC speaker, or connect to my HIFI directly from the o/p port on the back of the PC.

The other morning I turned on my PC and no sound ( althougth I did here the beep codes while booting )...I have since tried several things. I have checked that the drivers are loaded for the AC97 VIA audio device. This is OK...I have also tried connecting a sound blaster card and installing the drivers for this( disabled the onboard sound in BIOS) ..still no sound...this led me to think that it was something to do with windows rather than the hardware.Soooo....I formatted C: and reinstalled XP...then installed the drivers for both the onboard sound and also for the Creative SB...nada..zip...zero...no sound!!!!

Last attempt was clearing CMOS, reformat and reinstall of XP and audio device drivers...

I am really at a loss as to what to do next, and I fear I may have to set something in my BIOS, but not sure what exactly..I chose default options when setting up the BIOS..I have run aida on my PC and it states that the BIOS is two years old and may need upgrading...do you think this could be the problem??

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

My system setup is as follows:-

Soltek 75DRV mobo, with VIA chipset.
VT8366 Northbridge
VT8233 Southbridge
Redstorm F... Read more

Answer:No sound on PC speaker

That sounds like quite a problem there, I had a somewhat similar problem with dualbooting windows XP and Red Hat 9. I didnt know how it happend, but the setting in the BIOS that enables or disables the onboard sound device would turn off by itself. It was mysterious and I never did find an answer, but I knew the problem. I honestly dont have a solution, maybe a BIOS update should be in order to correct it. But to my knowledge to aggree with your information, it must definitely be BIOS-related. If yuor have onboard components, look for them in the BIOS, make sure all of your onboard sound options are on. usually, there will be and option for Soundblaster sound, MPU-401 codec, and MIDI controller, make sure all of your options are on and there are no device or resource conflicts in your device manager in windows.

With only the given information in the above post, this is all i can say at the moment about this strange anomoly.

Hi all.I have a T61 7662-CTO, running XP.  Yesterday I noticed that only the left speaker was playing any sound.  I have since run audio channel tests and I am only getting left channel sound out of the speakers.  With headphones fully plugged in, I get only left channel sound and a *tiny* amount of bleed over to the right channel.  When I pull the plug out a little bit to make it double mono on the headphones, that works normally. I checked that I had the most recent version of my sound card driver, and then reinstalled/repaired it just in case.  No dice.  I have the Soundmax HD Audio. Can you suggest anything I might be able to do???  It's sort of a huge loss. Thanks!!

Answer:T61 right speaker has no sound

The speaker has come back!  And when it did, I noticed that while the speaker was out, the Lenovo Power Manager battery icon next to the System Tray was gone as well.  Now that the right speaker sound is back, so is the Lenovo Power Manager icon. How could these two things be related internal to the chassis??

Hello I recently upgraded my system with a new motherboard and processor. I also reformatted my hard drive and installed a fresh copy of Windows XP. I installed all the motherboard drivers (including sound drivers) and everything seems to work great except the sound. Strangely, when i put on my headphones I can only hear sound coming from the right headphone speaker. I thought this could be a headphone issue, but when i tested the same pair of headphones on another device they worked fine. Also i plugged speakers into the computer and they also only play audio from the right. I checked my audio properties and settings and all the balancing settings seem to be fine. I'm using onboard sound (because it seems to be better than my previous sound card), and the drivers came with a "VIA HD Audio Deck". I can't find any balancing options there so i don't see how i could have muted the left... I've tried reinstalling the drivers, that did nothing. I have two audio inputs on my PC, both produce the same result with multiple audio devices. Also, when the headphones are inserted halfway, the sound seems to work perfectly. I would just keep them halfway inserted all the time, but the problem is really bugging me. Any ideas? The motherboard I'm using is a ASRock A790GXH with onboard audio.Thank you very much!

Answer:Sound in only one ear/speaker?

QuoteAlso, when the headphones are inserted halfway,NEVER do that, the 1/8" mini jacks do not secure themselves in that position and could transfer static to the mother board or other circuits.Take the sound card out and exchange it, it's defective.

Answer:only getting sound out of one speaker

You've gone through every audio control panel possible, from the speaker in the bottom right to going to the sound control panel and making sure one of the sliders isn't accidentally pushed to one side. Have you had a format and installed the card and it still remain with only sound in one headphone or did it just all of a sudden stop playing in the other speaker?

Hello folks! I have bought a new logitek x 240 speaker system because my old speaker wasn't functioning properly, just to find out the new one works in a very similar way!
The right speaker DOESN'T WORK!
For the old one it seemed like a connection problem for if I press around on the volume button, the volume of the right speaker will go up. For the new one it just doesn't work.
I had looked around the asus realtek audio manager config, and found out my speaker will work only if I set it to 6ch speaker. In the picture there's like 4 speakers but mine is only 2 speaker. There is a selection for 5.1 but no 2.1.
Also, if I set the output part to "Front Speaker Out", my right speaker will work! Actually both speakers and bass work but it doesn't work well. Music volume will go higher and lower and the sound is extremely weak. When it's on center/subwoofer the sound and bass is rich but there's only 1 speaker working.

I'm using on board sound card. It's a realtek high definition audio device, from Asus P5W DH Deluxe.
Thanks!

Answer:No sound from right speaker

OMG sorry guys I completely ignored one selection when I was looking around.
If I choose Digital PCM output both speaker will work and the sound is rich.
OMG lol
*Ok sorry. It will work only if I set the output part to 2 front speakers.
If the output is set to center/subwoofer and the system is set to Digital PCM output, there will be no sound output at all.
My speaker is linked together to the subwoofer and plug to the computer. Should I just leave it on 2 front speakers with digital PCM output or there's something else going on?

Question: so speaker sound

I had to move my pc yesterday and when I set it up and booted up, I had no sound coming from my speakers. I have CD player sound, but none on anything else. Checked my sound card to see if it had come unseated. Its OK.Any ideas?Have checked cords, device manager, and reinstalled sound card.

Answer:so speaker sound

Check to make sure that in sound properties that the right device is selected. Also check volume control. If that doesn' work try reinstalling the drivers for the sound card. You can test it by running Dxdiag and testing the sound from Direct X.

I am running XP with JBL speakers, i have had problems with these speakers since day one, right speakers shorts out all the time, i think it is not a driver or sound card problem but rather a hardware problem, well now the right only works, i read some advise to try my earbuds in the headphone jack of the speakers and see if they both work, something weird happened when i plugged them in both speakers are working, but this is a temporary solution as i need my earbuds

Any help appreciated

Dan

Answer:Sound out of one speaker

Then looksis your JBL Speaker Hardware issue .... if you say is from day one you should return to where you buy... also you can plug in your JBL Devcie to other sound device to see it work ok or not... if not then 100% for sure is the speaker..

Hi All,

I accidentally deleted my speaker and now i don't know how to get the sound back.

If i go to the "control panel" then "Hardware and Sound" then double click on the icon sound. I can see only headphones under the tab "Playback". There is no speaker under this tab.
Could you please help me get the speaker back and thus the sound.

I went to start menu then right click on computer then "manage" then "services and applications" then "services" to see if windows audio was stopped. it was not but I restarted "Windows Audio" &"Windows Audio Endpoint Builder" to see if I could get the sound back. But the sound didn't come back.

Cheers,
Jim

Hi, I had some old speakers that I had since I first got my PC years ago, and around 12 months ago I started only getting sound out of one speaker, so today I finally got off my backside and bought some new speakers...

Only problem is, the problem remains, I'm only getting sound out of one speaker...

This is my PC : IMEDIA MC 2569 - PB34330401 - iMedia - platform_honeymoon_imedia - Desktop
I have used the 07 drivers from the packard bell website and the problem remains.

So I tried the latest ones here : Realtek

But the problem still remains, all my audio settings are fine, the balance etc is all correct, could it be my jack that is broken? If so am I screwed seems it's built onto my motherboard?

Answer:Only getting sound out of one speaker?

Did you try looking in sound options? Drivers are ok in device manager?

This is my first post and hope someone can help.    Only one of my speakers is working.  They worked fine all this time, then all of a sudden, only the right one worked.  I tried going to the control panel to check on the balance, but the option for PC Speaker Balance is locked or something, because I can't move the bar (it's like that option is 'grayed out'.)   So for a lack of any other good idea, I unplugged the speaker wire from the back of my computer, then plugged it back in.  After doing that, the Left speaker now works and the right one doesn't!       Can anyone offer some suggestions???  Thank you!
