keyboard problem with Acer Aspire One netbook

Question: keyboard problem with Acer Aspire One netbook

My friend has an Acer Aspire One netbook which he got recently. Today he said the keyboard started messing up and some keys type different stuff than they're supposed to. For example if he pressed "K" it types a "2" instead. I'm not sure how to fix it but he think he must have pressed some combination of keys that switched on an alternate keyboard pattern. Does anyone know how fix it? Thanks!(He says the P key, comma key, question mark and colon key and maybe one other are not typing those characters but are typing different ones instead)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi SevenForums Members,

I am having some trouble installing Windows XP onto an Acer Aspire One netbook.

Complete Computer Specs (From Bios)

CPU Type: Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N270 @ 1.60GHz
HDD: Toshiba MK1652GSX
System BIOS Version: V1.05
VGA BIOS Version: Intel V1585
Product Name: Aspire One
Manufacturer Name: Acer

What I have tried so far:

1. Changed SATA AHCI to IDE>Creating a bootable USB with Windows XP (Without SATA Drivers)>During Setup BSOD

2. Changed SATA IDE to AHCI>Opened Nlite, and Slipstreamed "IMSM_Intel_v8.0.0.1039_XPx86" Textmode Drivers, and mounted ISO on my USB using 2 methods.

Method 1: YUMI Multi Boot
Error: Booting WinLite.iso (hd0,0) map --heats=0 --sectors-per-track=0 /multiboot/ISOS/WinLite.iso (hd32) Error 60: File for drive emulation must be in one contiguous area. Press any key to continue...
Note: YUMI Multi Boot works great with the Windows iso when I do not add the SATA drivers using nLite.

Method 2: WinSetupFromUSB
Error: The following file is missing or corrupt. System32/hal.dll, please reinstall the copy of the above file.
Note: I have read multiple places by retrying to boot will fix this hal.dll error, or switching from TXT mode and GUI Mode.

Error: No Bootable Device

Method 4: Novicorp WinToFlash
Testing right now

Set BIOS to AHCI.

Wrong drivers. Use the Intel F6 drivers.

Intel F6 Drivers

Method 1: to 4:

Uses the Win XP CD.

First check for all the Win XP drivers for your hardware on the manufacturer's web site.
If your Win XP CD, does not support your Sata Controller, you will need to load drivers to uses at F6.
Load Sata Controller drivers with a floppy disk is the best way.
SATA Drivers - Load in Windows XP Setup on Dual Boot
OR
SATA Drivers - Slipstream into Windows XP CD

When I turn it on, I get a black screen which says:

Windows could not start because of the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select r at the first screen to start repair.

My netbook has usb ports but it doesn't have a cd/dvd or a floppy drive, and it didn't come with any discs.

I pressed F8 to see if I could further troubleshoot my problem. When I did this, I got a screen titled "Windows Advanced Options Menu" which gave me a set of options to choose from. I chose Safe Mode and clicked enter, and I got this message:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

My netbook is XP Home Ed., Intel Atom Processor N450 (1.66GHZ, 512KB cache), 1 GB Memory, 160 GB HDD

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you

Ok, I really need HELP! I literally spent all last week reading/researching this issue, but this one is over my head, so after being up ALL night trying to figure it out, I am pleading for some one on this wonderful forum to assist me.

Acer Aspire One D250, aka kav60, typical netbook with no external DVD Drive. I bought 2 (nearly)identical ones for my grandkids. Here's what happened:

1. One of them became terribly infected with trojans, rootkits, worms, you name it. The other grandchild who is learning about computers decided to "fix" it. He cleaned the computer and the system was clean but locking up and not running well.

2. He said the took the "good" hard drive out and tried to "clone" it OVER top of the bad one.

Now it won't boot at all,
Currently, when trying to boot it says the drive needs formatted, please see the pic that shows the partitions. Also when I put it in an external enclosure, it also tells me it needs formatted.

I really need step by step on how to correct the problem. BTW, I have NO recovery disks - only the restore function built in (which isn't working)
I have made an UBCD and also Hiren's, but I am not familiar with the commands.

So, I am guessing, that the MBR is messed up and the partitions as well.

If one of you fine folks could walk me thru, I will forever be indebted to you. Thanks so much!!

Hi GuysI own an acer aspire one v5-121 netbook ( 1 Ghz Amd Dual Core , 2 Gigs Ram , 500 GB HDD , 11.6" ) .Some of the keys on the netbook are malfunctioning . For example , pressing "Down Arrow" shows the digit "1" . So basically , one cannot move down a list of items in windows explorer using the down arrow - and it remains the same in all kinds of application - in the browser , while playing games etc . Simlarly other keys like "Delete" and "Insert" are also malfunctioning .  Another key that is working in an undesirable manner is the "Q" key . Whenever I use the Q key , for eg. in microsoft word , this "q" alphabet jumps to the starting position of the word which I were typing .  So all this makes the netbook almost un-usable for academic needs & beats my purpose .  Hope I can find the right solution to this problem here . THANKS IN ADVANCE

Hi guys,

I am facing a problem with my less-than-a-year-old Acer Aspire 5943g laptop. Certain keys on the keyboard wont work for some time when I switch on the laptop or when I get it off the sleep mode. These keys are Caps Lock, d, s, h, m, and some more. After 5-10 minutes of frustrating around, pressing random keys, these keys activate and start functioning. However, the cycle repeats itself the next time I switch on my computer.

I googled and found that there are many users out there with similar issues but none have managed to get their issues resolved or at least no one has provided a satisfactory answer so far. In this forum there is a exact same topic but that thread is closed. I would be grateful if those users can suggest me what they ended up doing to cope with this issue.

I checked with the Acer people in Indonesia and they say that I will have to give my laptop and it can take up to 14 working days. I might do that but looking for the last ray of hope through this forum.

Many Thanks for your help in advance.

Answer:i have a problem with my Acer Aspire V5 laptop keyboard not

Are you sure it is the keyboard? You could have other issues including malware. Restart in Safe Mode (F8 at start up for advanced boot options). If it works normally in Safe Mode, download, install, Update, and Run Malwarebytes while in Safe Mode. Save report to later post here. Remove all it finds, restart in normal mode, update your antivirus programs and run that also. If both programs find and remove problems, rerun Malwarebytes again. Post results, including whether it fixed the original problem. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

My Acer Aspire 4738z keyboard is not working during windows 7,8 installation. The keyboard is working fine in BIOS. So i plugged an external USB Keyboard. The same problem here too. The USB keyboard works fine in bios, but not during windows installation. So, I removed my hard disk and plugged into my desktop and installed windows 8. And i put back my hard disk back into my laptop. But alas, the issue persist. In windows 8 too the USB Keyboard and laptop keyboard is not functioning even though the drivers get installed and are working fine.
At this point, I'm very confused. I don't understand why Bios and Windows are using two different methods of retrieving information from the keyboard.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello guys! Unfortunately I had a problem with my keyboard. The 'M' button is broken. Not the button itself but the base structure that is holding the button from the hinges. I believe that I have to totally remove and replace the keyboard base with a new one. I just want to know that if I could fix that part by myself. Any help will be appreciated.

Maybe it was because the battery ran out. In my defense, it should've been put somewhere visible. In any case, suddenly keys won't work. I can't use the left shift, D, Z, V, N, L and who knows what else. I've done a virus scan and a malware scan and both turned out fine. The only other options I can think of right now are looking for a way to boot in safe mode, finding where the screws are in this thing, or wait for tomorrow to get some compressed air, even though the odds of all those keys getting jammed up by magic flying crumbs seems extremely thin. On a side note, a few weeks before, it would suddenly get stuck on random when I type. Something would turn into sssssssssommeeeeeethiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing. It's even worse when you try to correcr it, you'd sometimes end up deleting everything before that word. Edit: Did a run on keyboardtester.comThe faulty keys make a symmetrical layout with the keyboard. "D K Z V N ." and the up and right arrow key. That can't be a coincidence. Aliens?

Posting on behalf of my girlfriend...

Not sure if it's software or hardware, but she's having an issue with aforementioned notebook keyboard - basically when she's typing in Word and gets up to a reasonable speed, the cursor will jump to an earlier part of the document and words will start to highlight.

Any ideas?

Answer:Problem with Acer aspire 5720 keyboard

Usually the best fix is to replace the keyboard... about $30 to $50.
Try cleaning it thorougly with a can of difluoroethane gas such as dust off, as sometimes they are just dirty.
You might also attempt disconnecting and reseating all relevant cables.

Not sure if this is where I should post this or not. A friend brought me their Acer Aspire one. They let their kids use it. She said one day it just would not boot. I have tried to get it to boot, but it takes forever, then it gives a hi-low-hi-low beep that sounds like the European sirens. I put Windows 7 on a usb drive and set it to boot from the usb, but it still won't boot. It once came up with a option to repair the Windows 7, but it sat there for 10 minutes doing nothing, then started with the beeps again.
Anyone have any ideas on what to do to fix this thing??

Answer:My acer Aspire 4738/4738z keyboard is having problem

Since the external works, it looks like you're ready for a new keyboard, but to be sure try the onscreen one; Accessories>System Tools>Accessibility>On Screen Keyboard. Also please don't post in bold caps. It's considered shouting. Also use the built in font as your post is quite large. Since your OS is Windows 7 and not 9X, I'm moving the thread there.

Hi all!

SO, here's the deal:

I bought an Acer Aspire Netbook about a year ago (running Windows 7 Starter Edition) and immediately started having issues with it. Acer tech support was no help at all (and incredibly rude, too!). Let me start at the beginning.

One day the computer gave me the "BOOTMGR is missing, press CTRL ALT DELETE to restart", so I pressed CTRL ALT DELETE, got the BSOD, then Acer eRecovery Management started. I was able to restore the system to factory defaults and it worked fine, until I restarted. Here are my two current issues:

1. I still get the "BOOTMGR is missing" error message.
2. However, now when I try to restore to defaults it tells me the C: partition size is 0.1 GB and when I try to restore anyways I get the following error message "There is insufficient space on the disk for the temporary files required for this operation."

I cannot start into safe mode or anything of the sort, and anything I do takes me to the Acer ERecovery Management tool, which only gives me the option to restore to defaults, which then gives me the 0.1 GB error.

Any suggestions? I'd sure like to get this thing working again.

THANKS!

Paul

Answer:Acer Aspire Netbook Failure

Welcome to BleepingComputer From the description it appears like a failing hard disk. The best option would be to call Acer for a replacement if it is still under warranty.Else do this : Download GParted Live edition (USB or CD). Boot your computer using this. Take a snapshot or write down the details and post here the details of partitions on your laptop.Do not make any changes using GParted. BC experts will guide you further.

We have a netbook that crashed this afternoon - went to the wall paper when we were doing a virus scan

Did the scan - found the virus - deleted the virus - computer monitor went to the wallpaper.

Netbook has been shut down and started back up, several times. Now we get the wallpaper.

I can push F12 and start it in safe mode. But there are no icons and right clicking on the mouse does not bring up the normal menu,

Control Alt Delete brings up the task manager that shows a bunch of stuff happening - but none are shown as icons on the desktop. There is no task bar at the bottom either.

ANY help you can offer - would REALLY be appreciated

Thank you

Has anyone tried installing windows 10 preview on an old XP netbook? I have one sitting here doing nothing and thought Id give it a try. If anyone has any hints I would surely appreciate it.

Answer:Windows 10 on Acer Aspire netbook.

As long as your netbook meets all of the system requirements as stated on Microsoft's Windows 10 website (System requirements - Microsoft Windows), then you should be good to go.
But if you don't have a sufficient RAM, an appropriate screen resolution to run Metro apps, and updated drivers, you're bound to run into a whole lot of problems.

I am having some trouble with what I think is a persistent virus on my Acer Aspire One
Netbook. I am experiencing frequent lock-ups about every 5-20 minutes, forcing me to shut down with the "hard shutdown" method (holding the power button for 5 seconds). I have defragmented the drive using "Smart Defrag",

run Registry Mechanic v. 8.0.0.900, Malwarebytes AntiMalware v. 1.39, and COMODO System Cleaner 1.1.64946.38. COMODO System Cleaner keeps detecting three files which seem to be suspect to me. It isn't able to delete them.

C:\WINDOWS\Temp\$67we.$

I bought the computer new in May. It is an Acer Aspire One ZG5 with a 160GB HD and 1024 MB memory. I have heard of hardware problems caused by the speakers being played too loud on this model, and though I don't remember ever playing them too loud, it seems like that could possibly have something to do with it, so I'd like to rule that out if anyone knows a good way to do that.

other things I have tried are to take out the battery and depress the power button for 30 seconds and to reset the system BIOS to default.

Help would be greatly appreciated,

-Mr Binante

Edit: When the computer locks up I am still able to move the cursor around, but it has an hourglass next to it (background work?) and I am unable to click anything.

what could the problem be

Hi

Likelyhood is the power connector in the netbook is damaged, especially if you needed to jiggle it around.

Worth checking with ACER on returing it if still within warranty period.

It does not even beep anymore when I press Alt+F10. So, I think that I need to reinstall windows. The problem is that I have no CD drive. Please help.

Answer:how to reinstall xp on acer aspire netbook

When you start up the netbook do you see any screens showing the hardware configuration? You can tap the scroll Lock or Pause keys to stop the screen so you can read it. tapping again allows it to continue. You do not state what is wrong with the netbook. If the hard drive has died then you will not be able to run erecovery because the required files are on the hard drive.Read the link below for the proper procedure to perform an erecovery.http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/d...

hi my wife has Acer Aspire netbook with xp installed but no optical drive.she is worried over over lack of future xp support.I have hp laptop with win7 installed and hard copy of 7.how can we install on Acer?as pensioners really appreciate help Thanks

Answer:how to replace xp with 7 on Acer aspire netbook

Your windows & license will not allow you to install on another machine while the first is still working i.e. one machine at a time for a retail copy of windows, OEM licenses die with the machine.Don't worry about lack of support for XP from MS there will be enough support from forums like this to keep XP going for the life of the laptop. :0)

I have an old acer aspire one ZG5 which I use as a travel backup. When XP expired I installed win 7 ultimate The problem is win 7 runs very very slow. There is only 1 gb on board memory and apparently cannot be increased.
According to the memory gadget just booting up uses 98% memory and after a long time drops to 68% memory.
Any help how to downgrade win 7 to run a basic win 7 version Basic web browsing/ email/ letters etc.

Thanks Bob

Answer:How to downgrade win 7 on acer aspire one netbook

Actually I think you are doing well to get Ultimate booted at all with that amount of RAM as usually it requires a minimum of 4GB RAM to operate in any practical way. If I may ask why did you install Ultimate and not Home Premium??

As I cannot find the details for that motherboard it is hard to say how much RAM it will support but I think 2GB should not be out of the question but even that amount is hardly enough. So if you don't mind me asking again where did you get that info from??

The CPU from what I see in the specs for that machine is also inadequate in my mind and is used if I am not wrong in those tiny notepads with the 10" screens and with Windows 7 Starter version.

To be honest and realistic I would be inclined to buy a newer machine and have it set up for yourself because this one looks to be causing you some grief in manner of speaking. In any case there are some good deals on quite decent new laptops and if you don't like the 8 they come with you can always run that in 7 style using a free program to do that of course it is not quite the same but very close.

I have an Acer Aspire One netbook here. Friend's computer. Windows will load to, I believe, windows 8 home screen. Click enter and password log-in screen appears. Enter password and spinning cursor appears on black screen. Then standard cursor appears in black screen. That's it. Ctrl-Alt-Del will slowly bring up task manager option and when I click Task Manager I get spinning cursor for several minutes then a popup saying it can't load, or something like that. Sorry I should be writing all this down as I go through it.

Removed the hard drive and put it in a USB mount to access it with my computer. It shows up but just shows Acer (G) NTFS. Double click and it says "drive not accessible- access is denied".

Ran a check disk and it ran as far as 358501 index entries processed and won't go any further.

Is there anything else I can try with this computer? I'm running out of ideas.

Thanks for any advice...

I'ved never done it with XP, but you may be able to use a USB flash drive.

anyone out there with acer aspire 1 netbook who is also having issues (i am having more problems than i can count with it)? i can't seem to find a set of headphones to fit into the jack on my acer aspire 1 netbook. (i even tried them in the microphone jack just to see if things may have been assembled incorrectly)

i can plug the jack in most of the way, but it won't pop in normally like in a music device or my other computer. is there an adapter i don't know about or maybe i should i take it to be repaired and have a new jack (that fits headphones properly) put in?

the headphones will work ok, but if i move and the plug jiggles, sometimes the headphones will cut out (as if they were only partially plugged in). i don't want to jam the plug in there - it's as if it has a weird jack that doesn't fit standard headphones.

any ideas?

p.s. if you are considering buying one, i might go with a brand other than acer. i'm starting to hate that thing.

p.s. i have 3 sets of headphones that all work just fine in my other computer, just not the acer.

First question:
Would it do more harm than good for me to overclock my processor? Acer Aspire One Netbook w/ Windows 7 starter

Second Question:
I have a theme setup for Google Chrome but the center of the picture is in the bottom right hand corner of the window. Is there a way to fix this? My screen resolution is at its highest. 1024 x 600

If there isn't a way to fix it I'm not worried to much about it.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:i have a couple questions about my acer aspire netbook.

Nope, you can't overclock the processor at all (unless there's something special about the laptop. I've never seen a laptop that's been unlocked in any way)

I don't know anything about the Chrome themes since I've never used one, so you'll have to wait for someone else to answer

I have an Acer Aspire One ( AOA 110-1722 ) , this has Xp loaded.
My problem is that I can't boot up - I get to the welcome screen, then the list of Safe Mode , Last known config etc, appears. When I enter anyone of these it goes into disc check. Then the cycle starts again. How can I either reinstall XP I have a CD b which I can use on my desktop, this also has an SD reader. As far as the Acer is concerned there is NO disc drive and I have no remote hard drive - just USB stick and the existing 8 Gb SD memory card.

Your hard drive may be failing. It's possible to get a USB stick to boot a computer, and it's possible to copy XP to a bootable USB stick, and it's possible to get the XP to install from a USB drive. The hard part is getting the installation data to accept your product key.

These netbooks are a real bad idea for this very reason. YOu can try to do all the above, but I wouldn't waste the time. What I would do is buy a usb external CD/DVD drive and use that to get XP reinstalled.

If you have a desktop, you can get the HD installed on the desktop as a secondary drive, and from there possibly run diagnostics and maybe repair utilities to get the HD fixed. You might even be able to image the old drive to a new one and save yourself the trouble and time-expense of trying to get XP reinstalled.

hello, i'm not sure if i'm posting this in the right forum so I chose the category that seemed most relevant. I have an Acer Aspire One (D)257 netbook that I bought from Wal-Mart and i'm wondering if it has BlueTooth built into it by default. I'm not asking if it's BlueTooth-capable, i'm asking if my model contains an ACTUAL, PHYSICAL BT module internally. Because if it doesnt, then i will need to buy a BT usb chip that plugs into USB.

So if anyone here has my model and has BT working on it then please reply. I downloaded the Atheros BT driver for my model from the Acer site, and i've tried running the .exe files installed, but nothing ever happens. i cannot for the life of me figure out how to get this working without needing to buy an external chip, so i figure it would really help if i knew whether or not a BT module is present inside my netbook.

I have read several sites that say my model is BT capable and that it's an "optional" feature but beyond that i'm puzzled. I even called Acer, but couldnt get a clear answer on whether the module is present or how to get this working. I've also tried turning on my BT devices and then using the BT option under Control Panel\Hardware\Devices and Printers and then the "Add a device" option but Windows never finds anything.

I need this for talking on skype, ventrilo, teamspeak, business conferencing, and for having online chats with the other students in my university classes. I hate using headsets that have to ... Read more

Hi guys,

I'm hoping someone can help me out. I just bought this netbook a couple days ago, and now I'm getting the BSOD on startup. I put in my password, and then Windows 7 is extremely slow to load. After it loads, I get the BSOD and it restarts. I have tried restoring the comp to previous state, using Registry cleaners, and Startup Repair, but to no avail. This is my first netbook, and so I am a little confused as to what I should do, considering there are no optical drives, and it didn't come with any software CD's or anything like that. Please let me know what kind of info you guys need! Thank you so much!

Hello!,
I wasn't aware that the Acer Aspire One Netbook has a System Recovery feature, so I tried to format the hard drive using an external CD/DVD Reader. The Netbook was infected by a big bunch of viruses. Now, I am able to install Windows Vista, but I can't install Windows XP. This model came with Windows XP, but if I try to reinstall it, I will get a blue screen and it will reboot. For some reason I can't comprehend.... I am able to install Vista. What can I do in order to reinstall Windows XP? Is there any program available online that will format the hard drive at a 100% capacity? I don't have the Vista license number, and this model only has 1024 of SDRAM and that is not enough for Vista? Any ideas? Thanks!

Answer:Solved: Acer Aspire One Netbook - Can't Reinstall OS!

see if you still have the recover feature
Follow the stepsbelow to rebuild your C: drive. (Your C: drive will be reformatted and all data
will be erased.)
It is important to back up all data files before using this option.
Before performing a restore operation, please check the BIOS settings.
1 Check to see if Acer disk-to-disk recovery is enabled or not.
2 Make sure the D2D Recovery setting in Main is Enabled.
3 Exit the BIOS utility and save changes. The system will reboot.
Note: To activate the BIOS utility, press <F2> during POST.
To start the recovery process:
1 Restart the system.
2 While the Acer logo is showing, press <Alt> + <F10> at the same time to enter the recovery process.
3 Refer to the onscreen instructions to perform system recovery.
Important! This feature occupies 15 GB in a hidden partition on your hard disk

Hi there
I finally got to buy a small 10.1 in Acer Aspire One 521 Netbook.

Got rid of the W7 Starter edition on it plus all the Crap / Trial / bloatware that usually gets pre-installed on Store purchased machines (The AMD V105 processor has a bit more "oompf" than the usual Intel Atom processors that Netbooks are generally fitted with) and proceeded with a Windows Professional install.

Machine works FINE with Windows Professional W7 x-86 -- although remember to load the BROADCOM Wireless LAN driver BEFORE wiping the old software off your disk or you will have trouble connecting to the Internet.

Running Office 2010 , Photoshop CS5 and IE9 on it. All work fine.

While running photoshop on a 1GB netbook is not normally good to do for long periods it DOES work.

Very happy with this EXTREMLY portable netbook -- only cost me around 220 EUR too.

Its just the ticket for taking on Planes, and trains these days and fits easily into a backpack with your other hand luggage items.

I'd definitely recommend this type of computer for travellers -- of coursse it wont replace a fully specced Laptop or desktop but can be used when you don't need to run loads of VM's etc on a machine.

Cheers
jimbo

I upgraded my older Acer Aspire One AO150 to Win 10 about a month ago. It has the same Atom cpu as yours but only 1.5GB of RAM. The upgrade went fine aside from the fact that it took 2 hours to do it. This netbook originally came with XP but I had upgraded it to Win 7 Pro 32 quite a few years ago.

I also upgraded an Asus eeePC 1001PXD netbook that has an Atom N455 1.66ghz cpu and 2GB of RAM. This netbook had Win 7 Starter on it. The upgrade went pretty well but there is a small program that controls the Function keys so you can raise/lower the volume and brightness and other functions that doesn't work. I actually rarely use the function keys that way so don't miss it at all.

Both of these netbooks seem to work well with Win 10 for lightweight tasks such as email, web surfing, document processing, etc...

Good Morning,I have an Acer Aspire One netbook with Windows 7 Starter.I've had it for about 10 months, but in the last 3 to 4 months, I've had a persistent problem. If I close the 'lid' it goes into sleep mode.Standard.If I open the lid, it wakes up from sleep mode.No problem.Everything works fine the moment it wakes up.EXCEPTWhen I try to use the wireless, it does nothing for about three minutes.Regardless of browser.I open it up.Type in a web address.Hit <ENTER>.And nothing happens. No hourglass. No churning. My wireless icon in the system tray doesn't flicker or change - it shows as connected. It just sits there, doing nothing, for about two to three minutes. Then finally it starts. And after that it's fine. And stays fine until the next time I close the lid and re-open it.I've tried changing power saving settings, but no change. The only behind-the-scenes program I have running is Avast Anti-Virus, but it's configuration has not changed since I first installed it 10 months ago.I've run SpyBot, AdAware, registry cleaners, defragmenters, the lot.I've uninstalled frivilous programs. But nothing seems to change this problem.does anyone have ANY idea what's going on?Thanks!!!

Answer:acer aspire netbook boot failure

I have two Acer netbooks in the house (different models). The first thing I did was buy an external DVD burner. The next thing I did was go to Programs, Acer, Acer eRecovery Management and burn the recovery DVDs.

Note: this is a radical last resort step because it restores your netbook to how it was when it left the factory. You lose all the programs you have installed, all the windows updates and patches and any programs you have removed because of new computer bloat will be back on your netbook.
You'd hold down the alt key and press F10 when you tirn on the computer. Click Restore Computer to Factory Defaults.

I'd probably recommend a less drastic measure first.
1. Buy an external DVD burner.
2. Get someone running Windows 7 (if that's what you are running) make a repair disk. If your computer is running 64 bit Win 7, the disk has to be made with the same bit-ness.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/create-a-system-repair-disc
3. Use the repair disc to see if you can get Windows to boot.

I have an Acer Aspire One (ZG5) Netbook on Windows XP that seems pretty dead!
A while ago it was working through mains power but sometimes the power indicator LED wouldn't come on and the power lead needed a wiggle to start working properly. However now, there are no lights or power at all. The netbook also does not work without the battery through the mains. So I can't charge or boot the netbook.
I don't think its the ac adapter that's the problem, I'm thinking there's a loose connection somewhere. Question is, can I fix it, and how? Is it gunna be uber expensive? Has it already gone to netbook heaven?

Just bought one of these little netbooks a few days ago, model AOA 110-1588. I can't find the eRecovery program anywhere. The documentation said there's a desktop icon but there isn't. I looked in the start menu, all programs, add/remove programs etc. Maybe not installed yet & still on one of the discs? I have the XP disc & the system disc.
The reason I'm asking is I may want to return it for something with a larger screen & want to return it to factory condition. I uninstalled the programs I didn't want, such as Google desktop, Microsoft Works & installed a few things such as Firefox. Also my name is on there as owner when I activated Windows & I want a clean machine should I decide to return it. The eRecovery program looks straightforward if only I knew how to access it. I've done factory restores in the past but this is my first Acer product & I'm kind of stuck. Any help is most appreciated!

However going on the manufacturer site, i see that they have no drivers for anything but windows 7.

So my question is: will it be ok to format and install win xp and use either driver genius or uniblue's driver scanner to get the needed drivers?

Answer:can i safely install win XP on Acer Aspire One 722 netbook?

You can try but it's likely there are no XP drivers for your netbook. If you can't find SATA drivers, you won't even be able to begin installation as XP has very limited SATA support, and without those drivers will not even be able to recognize your HD. Make sure you have a way to recover your OS if it doesn't work out for you should you decide to take the plunge anyway.

I have Xubuntu on my Aspire One as I was not impressed with Windows 7 Starter performance. You can boot it off a USB drive to try it out then install it if you are satisfied with it or just reboot into your original OS if not.

i purchased a system recovery set of 3 disks... cannot operate with a reset boot sequence... Acer Aspire One

Answer:i need to reset boot sequence on acer aspire one netbook

Watch carefully as you first turn your laptop on. There will be a brief message usually in the lower left hand corner that says something to the effect of "Strike F1 to enter setup". The key needed to enter setup varies from system to system. Sometimes F!, DEL, or other function key. Once you know what key it is you will be ready to hit that key next time you reboot. This will bring you to the BIOS or SETUP screens. Be careful when editing these things because if you go and change things you're not sure of you may not be able to boot at all. If all else fails you can usually find an item that says "Reset to default settings". What you are looking for is the "Boot sequence" You need it to boot first from the CD, then the HD or Floppy. There may also be a selection where you need to enable booting from CD but not usually. Once you have the boot sequence set to boot first from the CD, then you "Exit saving changes". Now when you boot with your recovery CD in the laptop it should say something to the effect of "Stike the spacebar to boot from CD". Strike the space bar or whatever key it tells you to and it should do just that. Good luck!Just read that most ACER Aspire One systems use F2. Press this immediately after the power button.message edited by chrisgraf2

What do you guys think would help most, the ram or the hard drive? Also, does this netbook even support 800mhz ram? And is the hard drive 2.5" or 1.8"?..Thx

Answer:Solved: Is Acer Aspire ONE AoA-150 Netbook flashdrive bootable?

I know from personal experience that the netbook is USB
bootable,as I reinstalled windows from a USB cdrom on one.
I can see online that people are restoring from a USB flash drive,
so if your flash drive has a bootable system on it,it should be
a matter of plugging it in,starting the computer and changing
the first boot device to something like USB-HDD if it
doesn't actuall identify the drive itself in the boot list.
Some computers have a quick boot menu that could be used instead.
Usually something like hitting F8 during startup to go to the boot menu.

What are you trying to boot from the flash drive?

I have an aspire one with a card reader and an SD expansion slot. Neither recognise the SD card in My computer. But in both it makes a recognition sound when I insert the card while windows is running. I reinstalled the card reader drivers from the acer website without success. Any ideas? Thanks a lot in advance for any feedback.

mmm - how large is the SD card (capacity)? On some laptops (especially older models) there is limit on the size of card they can read... Possibly you are running into a similar limit with the netbook?Have you checked with the manual and/or Acer tech support site(s) to see what the specs/limits are?

When you boot the computer, the Acer splash screen should come up for a few seconds. On that splash screen, it should tell you to press a button to go into Setup. Hi there,I am having the same problem as in this post (Link: http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,101072.0.html), but I have an Acer Aspire One D257 Netbook, 32-bit, running on Windows 7 Starter.I have both the trial version of McAfee (which came with the netbook) and Avast free Antivirus, which I downloaded. Since I have both running at the same time, should I remove Avast as well as McAfee and then reinstall avast after removing all the McAfee products? Is there anything else which is different when removing McAfee on this particular computer, as opposed to the one in the abovementioned post? Please help - I always manage to damage something when trying to change the settings on a computer, and I'm worried I'm running my computer without proper protection now...Thank you!

Answer:Removing trial McAfee from Acer Aspire One Netbook

There is a removal tool at the MacAffee site...I don't see a reason you'ld have to uninstall/reinstall Avast.Re-boot after.

Hello, I have an Acer Aspire One netbook with Windows XP originally. I created a set of 2 Recovery Discs, then used DBAN to wipe out the hard drive. Now that the wipe is complete, I try to reinstall the software by booting from the USB DVD drive with Disc One inserted, but keep getting error for No bootable device. Any thoughts? Did I perhaps not create the Recovery Discs correctly? Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:Can't boot from recovery disk after using DBAN on Acer Aspire One netbook

Never mind after trying a few more things I got it to start by accessing the setup menu instead of just selecting the DVD drive through the F12 boot menu. (I don't know how to just delete this thread altogether).

First post here. I hope this is the correct place to put this post, if not please move.

I just bought a used Acer Aspire One 10.1 netbook and I am having some issues. When I got it the pc needed 17 windows updates done. So I did that but I am not sure all the updates worked properly as the machine shut down but never rebooted after finishing updates. After I turned it back on I tried to connect to the internet through my wireless router (which is working fine for other devices), nothing. So I tried a wired connection, nothing again. The wireless is finding my router it is just not hooking up to the internet. I tried ipconfig/all in the cmd prompt and all it shows is that the media is disconnected??? Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on? The compute seems to be functioning fine except for the internet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks All!

Im running Window 7 (I think starter edition).

Answer:Acer Aspire One Netbook will not hookup to wireless or wired internet?

Have you checked Device Manager to see if there are any devices listed (especially any network devices) to see if they have a yellow ! next to them to indicate they have a problem? Windows update may have installed a driver that broke things. You could try a system restore to a date prior to the updates.

If that gets you going then you could try reinstalling the updates making sure that you don't allow Windows Update to install updated drivers for your hardware. Driver updates should come from the mfr of the hardware, not MS.

Hi all

Not sure if this has been posted before but running Metro UI needs a minimum resolution of 1024 X768 which IMO seems a bit absurd in view of the large number of netbooks and tablets having a slightly lower resolution like 1024 X 600 which seems to be a common size.

You can "poodle fake" the screen into "down-rezzing" allowing you to use a slightly higher resolution to get round this limit.

Not sure where I got the info from - but thanks anyway to whoever found this out.
It doesn't look too bad on the netbook but if you don't like it then it's easy to change back again.

1) Run regedit
2) Search and modify all values "Display1_DownScalingSupported" from "0" to "1"
3) Restart the system
4) Enjoy with the two new resolutions 1024x768 i 1152x864

Cheers
jimbo

I'm trying to fix my Acer netbook, the problem is that whenever I turn it on it turns on normally, I can press F2, screen comes up, I can press F8, screen pops up, that stuff works fine, but the issue is that after it goes to the Windows XP loading screen, it loads fine but then after the loading it just goes back and does the whole process over and over again, it's in an endless loop and is there any way I can fix it? As you probably know, there's no place to put a CD in a netbook.

edit: safe mode doesn't work either.

Hi, any help on this would save my shattered nerves!!!

My acer aspire one netbook got the blue screen of death, (end of error hexidecimal code was 000007B). I tried to resolve it, but gave up in the end and did the 'erecovery' via cmd prompt f10, and went back to factory default setttings. Worked perfectly. I then did a 'Restore' from my Backup (Clickfree Backup System btw), and got all my files back. I then tried to get back online.

I am connected to my wifi signal (excellent strength) on the netbook, but not connected to the internet. It isn't an issue with the wifi, as I am connected to internet fine using my other pc (a laptop), and my ipod touch is also still connected and fine.

I ran connection diagnostic in Internet Explorer, which said it was damaged winsock. I've tried winsock repair from Diagnostic in Internet Explorer Tools: did nothing. I've also tried running a winsock fix program, that also did nothing. From the cmd screen I've tried to 'ping' yahoo and BBC: nothing. I've tried to reset the IP Config, and that did nothing.

I'm out of ideas and losing hope!!! Please, can anyone help me?

I'm asking this question on my Dell desktop which is working fine because my acer aspireone netbook cannot open downloads such as the ISG SysInfo.

Part 1: A couple of weeks ago, instead of opening my Firefox browser when I clicked on the shortcut, it kept asking me what program I wanted to use to open Firefox. If I clicked on Firefox it allowed me to gain acess to the www via my wireless modem. If I tried any other program, like Internet explorer, it would start to load the home page, then shut it down with a security warning "File Download - Security Warning (from McAfee?). If I then tried to run or save the IE program, it goes into a loop and won't open the program. If I use Firefox to try to open IE, it doesn't open also. It will open other programs that don't need to net, such as PowerPoint, Excel, etc.

Part 2: I also noticed that when I tried to use any applications on the control panel to find out what to problem is, I got the error message: "C:\WINDOWS\system 32\rundll32.exe
Application not found
I can't even turn the sound on or change the date\Time, etc.

What can I do to restore or fix the problem. I don't have a disk drive on the netbook, but I should be able to use a USB port to transfer a fix?

Thanks,
Dave

P.S. This is the first time I've used Tech Support Guy, so let me know if there's anything else I need to add to make more sense of this message.

Answer:Trouble opening programs and control panel applications on acer aspire one netbook

Try the LNK fix from this site:

That might fix your shortcut problem for Firefox.

Also try the CPL fix, see if that corrects the problem with Control Panel.

hi guys.

help

im having trouble with my laptop keyboard.
whenever i use my laptop keyboard the Fn function is "on" for the numeric keypad (the one usually on the right side of a normal keyboard). this started when i used an external keyboard. so thinking 'bout it i unplug the external keyboard but the same thing happens. the Fn function for the numeric keypad is "on". I have also tried powercycling the system but its still the same.

Please help. I can't use my laptop outside my house coz of that.

Answer:Acer Aspire One keyboard "Fn" problem

Try holding down the function key and hitting the numlock or scroll lock key, this is usually how you engage or disengage the laptops function keys on the keyboard. Most laptops have a light that will turn on and off when you do this, indicating that the funtion keys are in use.

Right, these netbooks are absolute useless. It's my girlfriends, (Acer Aspire one, ZG5 "AOA11")
Basically i had just reformatted it for her and installed windows 7 after upgrading the memory to 4gb, re-installed the neccessary drivers.
Was half way through installing the LAN driver when it restarted itself for no apparant reason, anyways i was getting an error relating to the following:

"Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (BUILD 082)"
"PXE-E62: Media test failure, check cable"
"PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM."

I knew that problem, so disabled the network boot in the BIOS, that was solved.
Soon after this i was getting the No bootable device -- Insert boot disk and press any key.
I've been having this problem for a few hours now, and it's really starting to stress me out.
I've tryed putting Windows XP onto a 2GB USB Memory stick, but yet still no luck with that. It isn't loading on the NTFS format as it shows that BOOTMGR is missing, tryed it on the FAT Format and just states yet another error,
"Remove disks or other media."
"Press any key to restart."

Unfortunatly i don't have an external cd drive to boot from CD-ROM. This is why i am trying to boot an installation from USB Memory stick.
Regards, Dean.
