Preferred Solution: beep, beep beep beep, beep. Black screen?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: beep, beep beep beep, beep. Black screen?

I don't think that is the right document....Exactly what are the beeps?

My laptop here is a Dell Inspiron 15, 3000 series.
The laptop itself works perfectly fine, I am able to get into windows (which I installed myself, it originally came with Ubuntu).
Occasionally though, it will do a BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE (repeats).
This happens on boot and sometimes when I am using it. Sometimes it turns off suddenly when I am shifting the computer around. It's extremely loud.

What is causing this? The sound seems to be coming from around the area the Memory banks are under the laptop, but nothing seems to suggest that anything is wrong.
I took a suggestion and used FN+Power to do Hardware Diagnostics which said nothing is wrong.

What else can I try?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if the beep pattern repeats.

Switch off the computer.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Then connect back all the peripherals and check if the beep pattern repeats and reply us with the beep count.

If you still receive 3 Beeps on the system then it indicates System board failure.. You will have to replace it on the laptop.
Please let me know the findings.

I am getting beep sounds when i turn on my dell inspiron n5010.
Nothing is showing up other than beep sounds.
Please help me out

Answer:RE: Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

Hi Ganny,
What are the exact # of beeps in a cycle?
Kindly review this chart and see page# 47 - it will help isolate the source of the issue.
Based on the exact # of beeps, that part would need to be replaced.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

I understand that this means there is a system board error.  I have a very good reason to believe that the BIOS had an issue (when I checked it before this happened, it had 75 boot options listed and said the volitale memory was almost full). Question: can I somehow force the BIOS to reset itself?  Is there a pin short I can use for this? Of course I am 2 weeks out of warranty :/  I assume if I sent it in they would just charge for a boarsd swap... likely $500-$600 dollars. Thanks for any help!

Answer:X230 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep, no screen: can I reset the BIOS?

1-3-3-1 means no memory. If you have 2 DIMMs, try with just one, then just the other. When you try with just one DIMM, it needs to go into slot-0. When you have the machine sitting lid-down and the battery compartment away from you, slot-0 is the one on the right.

My X230 gets very little use since I bought it in 2012... sometimes no use at all for weeks at a time. Yet the system board failed, as did a replacement, and now the third board seems to have failed. On startup I get 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep and a blank screen. I tried the existing RAM stick in both slots: no startI bought and tried a NEW stick of RAM from Crucial in both slots: no startI tried both sticks in the slots at the same time: no start Other than another bad system board, what could it be? Where can I get a system board that might last? By the way, at the same time I bought the X230 I also bought a T530 that gets gallons of heavy use almost every day and never had a problem that I didn't cause myself.

Hi, I have been using the Y480 for almost 2 years. However, when I boot up this morning, it just beep beep beep continously. and the screen just have a cursor blinking. But after I reboot again and press F2 to enter bios, and then quit bios settings, the notebook can be boot up successfully. I have backup everything I need What should I do to fix the error? Is my harddisk gonna be failed? I have lost all the purchase receipts but I have registered 2 years ago. Thanks!Peter

Answer:Y480 continous beep beep beep during startup

Beeps are error messages from the Motherboard. Either the MOBO is failing or you have a problem with your RAM, I dont think it is related to your HDD, but you should create a backup. Also, if you don't have, please create recovery disks immediately. You may want to do more research depending on the BIOS manufacturer and the beep codes. You can google these terms and you should find information on the procedure to validate this. You can also try to re-seat the RAM, maybe it got a bit unsettled, if you moved the laptop. All in all, if you took the externded warranty and you are still under it, you may want to send the laptop to Lenovo for repairs.

I have two printers connected to a Dell E520 through Vista. They are a Brother 5440CN and a HP 6110xi. The .Brother works ok but I can't say the same for the HP. Clicking any button on the HP gives the same response. Beep, beep, beep. I have recently moved the system to a new location just a couple of feet from where it was. Before the move Brother would scan and copy and the HP would do the same, but now as noted I can't get any response out of it but beep, beep, beep

Anybody have any ideas??.

my laptop is acting up. i have a toshiba satellite m305d-s4830
amd turion ultra x2 dual core mobile processor zm-80
4096mb 800 mhz 50ram
250gb (5400rpm) hdd

i shut it down properly upon finding that my C key was on the fritz. a couple of months ago, my E key had been doing the same (randomly not working and randomly typing e consistently). once i rebooted, i got the message "Operating System (OS) Not Found".

i let my computer rest for a while and turned it back on. i currently get the toshiba startup, but around when it's suppose to load the os, it beeps continuously at the loudest volume with a contantly blinking underscore in white font on a black background.

i believe this may have happened once before, but i have no clue what i did to fix it.

there are no extra items like CDs or disks in the laptop.

I have ThinkPad T500, 2241, CTO. Every time laptop boots, there is an annoying beep. It is not a beep sound that one might have when power status changes. Beep is off both in Power Manager and turned off in BIOS section of power management. Moreover, in device manager in non-plug and play list i disabled the BEEP. Still this annoying sound is there. BIOS is updated. However, there is no other section in BIOS where I can turn off the beep. Please help!Message Edited by Gordik on 03-22-2009 09:31 PM

Answer:T500 annoying beep!!! (cause is not battery power management and not BEEP in device manager)

Look through the bios again, there is a separate entry for beeps afaik. Did you look in the section where you can also set power mode beeps, keyboard beeps etc? I think its there, not 100% sure though.

any ideas?

Answer:Compaq bios freeze short beep long beep

Is the beep pattern just one short one long? Check your manual for the POST beep codes to determine what it is telling you. All POST beep codes are different so there's no way to tell unless we know exact model of your PC. The manual usually has the beep code in it, though.

Answer:CPU fan is working for few seconds and stoped then a long beep and 2 short beep

Hello, Your reported T61 bios beep codes would indicate you have one of the following failures: System boardLCD assemblyDIMMThe DIMMS would be my first choice to test so, if you have more than one DIMM installed, try  try removing one of them and try to boot, if OK, you have removed the bad RAM; however, if the results are the same, remove the other DIMM and install the one you removed previously. If you can boot OK now, you have isolated the bad RAM. Now, if you can't boot with either stick, then, I guess the RAM is not the problem (unless you have two bad sticks and I doubt that). See the  Memory Removal and Installation Guide for more information. Good luck!

Hi guys,

I have an Asus Z97A Motherboard/GTX 1080/24GB DDR3Gskill/ 500 GB SSD + 1to HDD and recently when i boot my PC i hear 1 long beep then quickly after 3 short beep.. I've searched in Asus website about the meaning of these beep and it's written that it's a Video card faulty..

But well just after these beep my pc is booting well ! and video card working well too, i've no problem playing games.

The strange thing also is that it's making these beep like 1 time every 2 or 3 days as i shut down my pc every night and when i'm going to work.

Do you have an idea of what i can do ??

EDIT : And by the way here's what i tried,

-Disable integrated graphic
-Clear CMOS
-Update Nvidia driver

A few times now my E5440 will give a low beep... then a few seconds go by, and another beep.  It just happened a minute ago - only two beeps this time.  But I think it happened a few days ago and beeped several times with the same pause of a few/several seconds in between the beeps.  It's so quiet that before I've thought I was imagining it.  But this time I was sitting in front of it typing.
There are no pop-up notifications on the screen anything is wrong, such as the 'disconnection' sound when you remove a portable HDD, or your Wi-Fi disconnects.  Nothing to indicate what the beeps mean.  The laptop is working perfectly.  Battery is fully charged.  I can hear the fan turning and changing speed but it's 2:30am here with no outside noise and I can barely hear the fan.  (I assume it would be spinning up like crazy if something were overheating.)
I'm at a loss what it means.  Does anyone know?
I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit if that matters.

My computer has been making this noise for quite some time now. but it would only happen once every few days so it didn't really concern me until now because its happening non stop. The noise is definitely coming from system sounds. I'm not sure if this is related but under device manager there is an unknown device which i cannot account for as i put the computer together and I'm staring in to the case rite now. there is also a yellow icon by teredo tunneling pseudo-interface (i have no idea what that is)lately my computer just seems to be working really hard when idling. the cpu is constantly spiking up to 100% usage and my hard drives seem to constantly be spinning. specscpu: intel core 2 duomobo: abit ab9ram: 1gb ddr2gfx: geforce 9800 gtx+hd: 2 seagate internal drives (1 with os) the other blank for storage. I tried installing an MSI Radeon HD 6450 2GB Pci express x16 video card. Once hooked up, I boot up and computer beeps, from what I can tell 1 or 2 long beeps, 8 short beeps. I was running built in 128m video so I disabled that in the Bios, but that didn't do it.

I noticed the Video card manuf. recommends minimum 400W PS, my rig only has a 300W PS. Would that really affect my upgrade or am I barking up the wrong tree. I don't want to fork over for a new PS unless it' warented. Thanks a bunch.

Answer:2G Graphics card upgrade...Beep! beep!

It's possible you need a new PSU.

The TDP on that card is only 27 Watts and it doesn't require a hook up so I would think your current PSU could maybe support but I wouldn't risk it. There is also the possibility that the motherboard you have isn't providing enough power to the card.

You could try to re-seat the card or clean out the PCI express slot and see if that helps.

To be honest I?ve never heard about such issue and really don't know why this happen but if this issue happens from the first day I think you should contact your local dealer or nearest Toshiba service provider directly and ask for help.

Generally speaking preinstalled recovery image and all installed drivers are tested so I cannot imagine it is some software related issue. Contact service and ask for help. Hey should check this and fix it. valid warranty will cover all costs.

I am trying to help with a Dell Inspiron 5100.
The computer was running very slow and I've made a bit of progress resolving that. I think it needs some more RAM and I'm not sure if that could be at all related to the following.
The problem now is that after running for few hours, then shutting down, then trying to turn back on:
1. light comes on indicating computer is on
2. the computer makes 2 beeps
3. screen
4. screen
5. and so on

This does not happen everytime trying to start the computer so I'm really at a loss. I've read about overheating in this model which would seem to make sense but sometimes this will happen after the computer has been off for a day or so.

At a complete loss now.

Any assistance much appreciated!

Answer:Windows Vista Beep Beep

These "Beep codes", as they're called, are to notify you that the Power On Self Test, or POST, has failed. The number and sequence of beeps is generally to identify which component failed, but without knowing the manufacturer, specifically the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System), it would be difficult to determine what the beep code is identifying as the problem component. For a successful Power On Self Test to take place, the following components must be working:BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) CPU (Central processing Unit) or processorPSU (Power Supply Unit) Video Output device (Graphics card)RAM (Random Access Memory)If any of these fail, your computer will not power on properly, and may exhibit symptoms like what you are describing. Generally, the first step in fixing a computer that refuses to start up is to isolate components that may be causing the problem. One thing to try would be to clean the internals of your computer (Warning: be sure power is turned off to your computer before working on internals!) and to reseat components like RAM, peripheral cards (such as your graphics card), etc.. If you do not feel comfortable doing this, you may think of taking the computer in to a reputable shop- most places that are reputable would not charge or would charge very little to clean and reseat a couple components. Chances are that the problem component is either RAM or Graphics card, these components tend to fail or require service faster than others, and may als... Read more

Is it possible you are hearing 1 long - one short?
That might indicate a BIOS CHECKSUM error, depending on the brand of BIOS.

You can try a ClearCMOS procedure (CLRTC is the same thing):
Note all your current BIOS settings
Shut down the computer > remove the power cord.
Remove the 3v motherboard battery.
Move the CLRTC jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3.
Touch a metal part of the case and Press and Hold the reset button for approx. 30 seconds to discharge all power from the board.
Put the CLRTC jumper back on pins 1-2.
Replace the 3v battery > replace the power cord > boot.
Immediately go back into BIOS and reset all your preferred settings. If the CLRTC worked you will need to reset the date and time.

Hi, Today I replaced my old graphics card with a new GeForce 9500GT and also added a new Kingston 2GB Ram Card. I installed both of them then restarted the computer, since then it has only powered on and playing 1 short beep then 1 long beep. I've tryed everything I can think of ranging from taking out everything new and putting it back to before I added the new items to completely taking out all 3 RAM sticks and reseating them. I'm not sure how a brand new unopened 2GB ram stick that fit perfectly and a brand new right out of the box graphics card can cause a problem like this. I've been through the ins and outs of the internet trying to find a solution but nothing has worked. Hoping someone can think of a unique way to fix this or how it could have possibly happened in the first place. I dont buy anything used everything placed inside my computer was/is brand new when it was purchased. Any help/comments on solutions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Answer:beep beep beep pc beeps

It could be that your Pc is overheating. If it has been with you for a while then dust gets stuck in the heat sink of the procesor and on its fan this makes the fan go slow and that causes the overheating.Ifyou know a little about Pc then switch off the PC at the mains take off the side pannel of the tower and look on the mother board for a small fan, you could put a vacuumm close to the fan and this may take out the dust, if not you will need to take off the fan to clean the heat sink

Windows XP, Service Pac 3

I just had a "search engine redirect issue" fixed by "Gringo." One thing that is different now is at windows start-up, this laptop makes a BEEP TIC (Higher in frequency than the BEEP) vs the BEEP BEEP sounds I've had for ever. The computer start-up sequence is very slow as it takes minutes before the computer is ready to be used.

During the virus removal, a few times the reboot start-up sounds were BEEP - TIC - BEEP (again the TIC was higher a higher tone and faster than the BEEPs). What do the different sounds mean?

I'll start another thread requesting help to fix my computer problems.

Answer:BEEP Tic vs BEEP BEEP at start-up

What is the make/model of the system?

Hi every1, Pls help me, I've bought 2 new ram cards from Each card is (256MB 144-Pin SoDimm 32MX64 PC133Mhz) equalling 512MB, because i was told the beeps are ram problems. And they both worked fine for a while, no beeps T22 loads up, but now all of a sudden my T22 beeps when i turn it on so i've swapped the ram cards about, still beeps when i switch the laptop on. so i took 1 ram card out and tried it with just 1 card (256MB) in both slots, perfect!! no beeps and loaded up perfectly when i put the card in each slot. When i try the other card with the first card BEEPING again!!!! so i tried that card on its own in each slot and beep again, thats the second time i had to send one back. Also should my Ram cards be PC133Mhz  or PC100Mhz? Whats happening to my memory banks?????Sorry for the long message. Thank you.

I turned my wife's computer on and the screen didn't even flicker and all it does is beep at me.
I tried removing on componant at a time and started it after every removal.
Still beeps at me.
Until I got to the CPU. It stopped beeping at me. Of course, every other piece was out of the puter, so I'm not sure if its supposed to stop beeping or if thats the problem.
Any ideas?

As the title says my PC outputs a "beep beep" sound out external speakers. It is extremely annoying. I haven't the slightest clue why it does this. Its kindof i higher pitch beep beep. all my specs are on my profile.

Answer:Computer Outputs a "beep beep" sound 1/3 times wallpaper changes. WHY?

== sound 1/3 times wallpaper changes. WHY? ==

Does that mean "one out of three times the wallpaper changes"? Have you looked in your Control Panel under Sounds and see if anything is set that might cause it?

My Asrock K7S8X, AMD+ 2.1, 512 MB PC has always run fine, but now it starts ok although the fan seems to be racing on, then the post beep, fine, then just as the fan starts to slow and the resultant volume deceases from the aforesaid fan, a second post-style beep occurs. I have a program called MotherBoardMonitor which tells me that the minimum speed for the fan is 2500RPM, my CPU temp is (approx) 47 to 54 , Mobo temp around 31, what could the problem be, i cant find any specific info on the net after hours of looking, thanks for any help, G

Before you do anything else reseat your RAM modules. If this doesn't fix it go back to basics - disconnect everything from your mobo except graphics card, power and RAM does it boot the monitor on start up? If not and you only have 1 ram module fitted beg or borrow another and try that - if you have 2 ram modules try them one at a time on their own. Post back when done and adviseRgds

For some silly reason I removed the 2 128mg PC2100DR ram sticks from my old computer that was working just fine. When I reinstalled them and I try to boot up I get a long beep, a pause, and another long beep. This senario continues and I shut the computer down as soon as possible. I'm sure I have the ram seated properly. Any ideas? Thank you in advance

Answer:One long beep, pause, another long beep when I turn on computer

If you are sure that you have them seated correctly try one stick at a time.

I just got a strange reaction from my pc. It was working fine last night, I went to start, turn off computer, shut down and went to bed. I got up this morning and I saw a notice on the screen (PC did not shut down during the night) It said there was a change to the global template for microsoft word and did I want to save changes so I said no and the pc shut down. Later on I tried to call up my key logger and heard a beeping noise from within my pc. I paid it no attention and went on the rest of the day working. I was using Quicken later on and noticed that when I tried to view certain graphs they seemed to be "fluttering" (The page seemed to go up and down rapidly on its own) I closed it and ran Avast antivirus scan. I tried to activate it and got an error message that said it ran into some kind of runtime error (I think) I finly got it started, ran a scan and came up empty of viruses. Then Avast kept shutting itself off. I emptied my waste basket, went to internet options, deleted all files and history (Including online content) then cleared all in Firefox. Next I went to start, run msconfig, start up disable all, restart, back to start, run, msconfig, enable all, reboot and everything seems to be fine now. Can anyone tell me what this may have or still is?

Question: Beeeep, beep beep

I just got new asus AM2 mobo and I'm getting beeps on start. 1 long beep and two short. Somewhere I found it is related to video card. I'm not sure if that's true, but I know videocard is functional and inserted correctly.
The mobo has it's own video, so I tried using only that, same thing. It just doesn't seem to make sense.

Answer:Beeeep, beep beep

One long two short looks like a video issue, as you said. You say it is also happening when you remove the graphics card and try to boot up with the onboard graphics?

Here's what I'd do:

Remove the motherboard from the case and set it on a box beside your case. Next, reset cmos (check your manual to find the cmos jumper pins).

Remove everything from the motherboard except:

cpu with heatsink/fan
one stick of ram
power supply connections to the motherboard (should be two)
connect the case's speaker to the motherboard

Then use a screwdriver to quickly touch (short) the two pins that usually connect to your case's power on switch.

See what kind of beeps you get.

If you still get the beeps, my guess is your need to RMA the board, but please post your system's full specs (including your power supply specs)

Good luck!

Ok, the other day my girlfriends brother gave me a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop. He said he couldn't get windows to boot up, all it did was start to load and after a few seconds it would start running CHKDSK with a blue screen, but once it got to step 3 it would say it was complete, but wouldn't go any further or boot windows up.

So yesterday I decided to mess with it, and it did what he said it did. So I tried to booted it into SAFEMODE and it wouldn't. So I restarted it and pressed ESC and ran a Hard Drive Self Test and got an 07 FAIL. After that I restarted it, and all I got was a black screen then it made a loud BEEP sound fallowed by a REALLY LOUD BEEP, then it did nothing.

Does anyone know what the problem is?

Answer:Beep, Beep thats all folks

Probably a bad harddrive.

Youd better hope they had their information backed up...

What you can try is hooking it up to another PC as slave and see if you can get any data off of it, but they will likely need a new harddrive and OS.

most of the time I start my computer I get five beeps pause of few seconds and then 2 beeps. Initially, it was five beeps on;y but the last two have been started recently. what is it about? how can I solve this problem?

Answer:5 beep pause 2 beep

The beep sequence refers to the CMOS battery - or the clock chip.  Replace the reserve (CMOS) battery -- it's usually a CR-2032 button cell.  If you need details, post the model number (i.e., Inspiron N5110, XPS 9333, etc.).

Answer:to beep or not to beep(that is the question)

Hi SLAYER. Although I've read that some motherboards don't have a POST beep, I personally haven't come across one. The most likely cause of no beep is that there isn't a connection between the case speaker and the motherboard. Possible causes that immediately come to mind are broken wire or the speaker connector doesn't match the motherboard header pins - possible one is wired for 3 pins and the other for 2 pins. If the motherboard connection is correct, remove the socket from the header and touch a 1.5V battery to the connector. You should get a distinct clicking from the speaker.

Anyone know what it means if you get a long beep followed by two short beeps when you boot up?  When this happens the screen is blank; it never continues booting; no Windows XP logo, etc.  It continues beeping like this until I hold the power button down until it shuts down.  Then, I can restart it, and it boots up, seeminly without issue.  This happens when I reboot intentionally (after windows updates or new software installs, etc.) as well as after it periodically locks up.  I suspect that the problem with it locking up is related to this--I don't consider a system lockup to EVER be acceptable, but I don't have time to get mad about it right now. This is a z61m.

My mum was playing a game on her pc and suddenly the screen went black and the noise coming from the tower reduced.

I turned it on today and still black screen. The fans are turning but not sure if there is noise coming from the hdd. There is also no BIOS beep to confirm all is ok.

I have removed the RAM, and tried it, no beeping at all.

Also, not sure if this helps, but there is a wire in there, in a bundle of wires that is connected in to 'cd in' but the other end was lying loose unplugged. They have a small black box on either end with connector ports for 3 out of 4 small prongs. (1-1-empty-1).

I am guessing it may be the hdd or maybe the mother board? But Im no expert. Also removed the CPU fan and made sure was in right, seemed to be.

Please help, thanks in advance, Cammy...

PS I seem to rememebr the make of the unit is some obscure make EZZA or AZZA or something I think.

PPS One of the cd drives has a green light on, but will not open when the button is pressed.

My son's PC crashed whilst he was using it the other day and he had to hard shut down (holding in the power button). Now it will not start, it simply gives a continual beep and shows a black screen with a flashing cursor.
The pc has an Intel i3 processor, an ASUS P8H61-M LE motherboard. We have already tried new RAM sticks in case the RAM had failed but that made no difference.
Any ideas - could it be hard drive failure? How can we tell?

Answer:Continuous beep and black screen with cursor

More likely to be a component failure than HDD. Beep codes should point to exact problem, listen carefully, does it match any of those listed below?
One short beep - VGA detected, No keyboard detected
Two short beeps - When using Crashfree to recover BIOS, the new BIOS is successfully recognized.
One continuous beep followed by two short beeps then a pause (repeated) - No memory detected
One continuous beep followed by three short beeps - No VGA detected
One continuous beep followed by four short beeps - Failure of Hardware component

I just a new mother board (Epox Socket 775 800 FSB) and when i booted up yesterday, with my old HD it worked fine, with no sound though (onboard...but lets no worry about the sound for right now). I did the Windows updates and had all my data pretty much the way I had it. After one of the many Windows updates, it prompted for a restart....fine. Thats when I ran into my problem

After the reboot, now I get a black screen. I cant get into the BIOS to change anything, I cant boot from a CD-ROM. I have tried many things already to try and fix this:

I have tried replacing the Video card with a known working card.

I have tried putting the Memory module (which is a DDR2 512MB) in a new slot. (I dont have a spare to try as of yet)

I tried waiting an hour and trying again ( I read that worked for someone)

I tried starting from scratch...booting with only keyboard and mobo, and still I get the black screen (obviosly) and the longgggg beeps.

I think this is a mobo problem but I'm not 100%

Can anyone offer any advice?

Answer:Black screen, long start

Sounds like a mobo problem, but before you try replacing it, go to the bios manufacturers website and look up it's beep code. That should tell you what's failing.

If you don't know who your bios manufacturer is, look up your Mobo on it's maker's website and it should tell you.

Hello, just finished putting another system up. I ran into a problem tough, when I booted the computer for the first time, all I got was a black screen. No bios, no post beep...

The setup:
MSI p6n SLI V2
Core 2 Duo E8200 2.66GHZ 6mb L2, 45nm (not compatible?)
Sparkle 8800GT 512mb
2Gb G.Skill DDR2 800mhz

The PSU didn't have a 8 pin 12v connector which the mobo had, so I didn't connect it. I will roam around the local computers stores for the cable today and see if it helps (hopefully thats the problem).

I fear it was my mistake tough, with the CPU choise. I tought the CPU list on MSIs site was of all the compatible CPUs and didn't notice that it said "in testing" on the side... damn.

Answer:No post beep, black screen on first boot

You absolutely need the correctly configured power supply to work with a motherboard and video graphics card of that quality.
The MSI website and the Core 2 Duo webside will advise you on capatibility between the two.

Hello all,  i own a thinkpad t60 with ATI radeon x1300 graphics card. I read through your complete "T61p exhibiting 1 long and 2 short beep and black screen" thread and I have the same beep problem with my t60. Let me briefly explain you how the beeps occur in my system: My t60 had this problem after I initally formatted my system and this 1 long and 2 short beeps used started occuring. But the strangest fact is that after those beeps and blank screen, the power light in the indicator light group is on along with battery and ac power lights. But then when I repeatedly switched on and off the system, the sequence of beeps dont occur all the time. Then I completely switched off the system and when I booted the next times I started pressing the ESC keys after pressing the on button. Most of the times ( 8 out of 10 times), the first 4 times it produced the same beep codes but after the 5th time, the system turns on.  All those 5 times, I kept on pressing the ESC key once I powered on the system. Also, every time I'd a chance I did run the pc doctor to find any pro blem with the board or video card, but every time it turned out to be fine. So now, every time I turn my system off or use a stanby/hibernate whichever turns the screeen off, on immediate reboot it comes out blank but with the power indicator light on. Here by I also list any changes that I'd made:1. I reformatted the system and only then this started to occur.2. after reformatting lsat time... Read more

Answer:T60 exhibiting 1 long and 2 short beep and black screen

I think your best way of diagnosing this is to remove the new ram and install only one chip, if the problem persists, try the other. If the problem persists, then I'd try booting from a Linux LiveCD (any will do but I'd recommend boot with the option to not change anything on your PC. If you get this same problem when booting linux, then you know it's a hardware problem, in which case I'd remove as much hardware as possible, drives, cards, etc... if it still persists, then you most likely have a bad system board. In this unfortunate event your best option would be a used one. A new one would cost more then the laptop is worth, but used T60 boards are pretty reasonable, I just found one for another member and could probably help you find one to if necessary, but lets hope it's just a ram chip. And by the way, your system is limited to 3GB, but in the chipset, and in your 32bit OS they came installed with. You can install 4GB, but it won't be able to use it all.

Since then it is stuck in a loop of black and white screen showing my CPU speed and giving options of F2 for settings or F8 for Boot, neither of these work and it just goes back round the loop.

Just happened this weekend for the first time. I went to turn on my computer (which I've had since 2014) and the indicator lights and keyboard lit up like usual and then after a second only the power button stays green but the screen stays black. I tried pulling the battery and pressing the power button, etc and after 45 minutes of playing around I managed to get it to show the bios/setup screen but not knowing what to do I tried to restart it after saving changes (I made no changes) and I could never get it to work again. I tried attaching it to another monitor but couldn't get it to work. I've done a lot of searches but it's harder on my phone to do searches :-(  Any ideas where to start? What info would you need to help me start ruling out potential problems?  you help is much appreciated. CheersDaniel

Answer:W530 power on, fan running but black screen beep code 2-2-3-1?

Obviously, it might be the motherboard, but we should rule out other things.  I would remove all the main battery, memory, the hard drive, optical drive, wireless card, WWAN or mSATA if you have one.  Plug it in and try to start it.  You should get the no-memory beep pattern.  Then try the DIMMs one at a time to see if you have a bad memory chip or slot.  If it won't start at all, you probably have a bad motherboard.  (CPU failure is possible but unlikely)  If it works and both (all?) DIMMs are good, start adding parts one at a time.

I cannot even see the BIOS. I have tried draining the static current by holding down the power button but failed. I have seen a post similar to this one but with no solution.
Please help!

Hello,I have the following problem. Today I turned on my X200 without power module, and when I plugged in power - the screen starts to flicker. This was not before, and I am using my laptop only during a week. After that I turned on the laptop with power module, it was OK, but when I plug out and plug in power module, computer makes "beep" sound and becomes black for a second. Is that normal behavior? Thank you!

Answer:x200 black screen and beep sound when power module is plugged on and off

the beep sound is normal but the screen going black is not.  the screen should dim just a bit when you unplug the module and brighten a little when you plug it back in but its not supposed to flicker or go black, even for a second.

Hello all,
I have a HP desktop, several months ago the DVD-R started to give me problems, the DVD-R would try to open but it seemed it got stuck, I thought it was something to do with the DVD-R so I open it up and replace the DVD-R, when I connected it back again it just gave me a long beep and seemed to start loading, the screen was black, actually it seems like the screen was not connected at all since the power button on the screen stayed yellow instead of green. I removed the dvd-rom and left it without a dvd-rom, just rebooting from the harddrive and same thing, long beep, I tried changing the cable from the motherboard to the dvd-rom and nothing.
any ideas?

I put my Inspiron 3521 laptop on sleep by just closing the lid. After sometime when I opened  it but nothing showed on screen. I tried my moving my finger on touchpad but nothing happened. Then I forcefully shut it ddown and again switched it on. But nothing happened again. I removed the battery and put it back and tried again but no screen comes up. I left it for sometime and again tried, this time the power light and cpu light goes on and after two second cpu light goes off and only power light remains. Now laptop starts making sounds like "tak tak tak tak tak". The sound starts at high volume and stops after getting low and repeat itself. I even tried removing the battery and doing this on power plug only but same thing happens again. I know that that it is not a beep sound. And because even dell logo doesn't shows up, so I can't even get it boot up or any thing else ... What shoud I do now?

Hi Community,I have a 2013 Lenovo Thinkpad S531.Everything was fine the first 2 weeks. But then suddenly after beeing switched off for longer time or in hibernation mode the laptop did not start upproperly anymore.Symptoms:   - screen is black/off/blank   - no POST BIOS beep The only thing that helps is unmounting the RAM and reseat it.I am running linux with a 3.11 kernel on it. I deactivated secure boot and uefi is switched to legacy. Further I deactivated Intel Rapid Start Technology since I use the internal SSD as swap. I think it could be either a bios problem or a motherboard defect.Has anyone else experienced something like this? Regardsvoltage531

Answer:Thinkpad S531 - No Beep / Black LCD

Hello Voltage, I have exactly the same issue : Lenovo S531 bought in september 2013 and it fails to boot (the fan and the leds wake up on power, but the screen keeps black and doesn't load the BIOS). I didn't change anything in the BIOS parameters as you did. Did you solve your issue ? Regards,Fred Martin

Well I guess I can start by saying that I wasn't doing anything abnormal, I was simply on the internet when all of a sudden the screen froze. I turned off the computer and turned it back on (this has never happened before for this computer), when I did so the monitor did not turn on (ViewSonic VX2025WM 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor). However I was seriously doubting it was the monitor, the reason is I can still play the xbox 360 (which is plugged in thru the VGA input on the back, and it works like a charm). So I thought that my Video Card was the problem, so I sent it in (called in it's warranty), this however I am sad to say is also not the case as I just got it in, and it still is not working. So my problem is I have no idea what it could be, I have heard that it may be the the wire or perharps the DVI slot burned out. Also like the title suggests I have no beeps, so it could be the motherboard, however it has had no problems in the 2 years I have had it. It is a custom built computer built by myself, so there is no other people, no warranty on it or anything, I am forced to either scrap it or send it in (i'm poor at the moment so I thought I would try my luck around the community). If any of you could help, it would be much appreciated (and don't worry you can talk tech, I know enough, and I have my father here who used to do AS400 Systems, we know our way around).

Answer:No Beep, No Screen.

I've only seen this one time and it was caused by defective ram.

Hi, this is my first time posting on this site and I need help. I have built everyone in the house's computer and if something goes wrong I can usually figure it otilout and fix the problem. Not this time, I'm about to fix it with a hammer.
My system- ASUS P4SD-LA Stingray mobo with a pentium4 CPU, 2Gb RAM, Maxtor 40Gb SATA HD, ATI 9800XT video card,M-audio Audiophile 24/96 sound card and 500w PSU running Windows XP.
So, everything was running fine until last week. I normally don't shut my system all the way off, I just put it in hibernate but for some reason I turned it all of the way off. The next morning when I went to turn it on it wouldn't boot into XP and gave me a missing file error message ( I forget which one). I ended up having to do a system repair with the install disk starting from XP SP1. When I got to the SP3 disk my CD-ROM drive crapped out on me and I had to swap it for a different one, got repair install finished and when I rebooted it seemed to be OK except I couldn't connect to my network at all. The next time I booted it up I had no display on my monitor, all of the system fans were on, I could hear the HD, but no screen.
I'll try to make this long story shorter, this is what I've tried so far (not necessarily in this order)-
removed all cards, cables, etc. and cleaned the contacts, put them back in.
It ran fine for 1 day, then just a black screen again.

There have been multiple discussions over the past months concerning a 1 long and 2 short beep symptom on some T61 and T61p model systems.   Over the last several weeks members have begun to start additional topics on this theme and cross post between threads.
I am consolidating all the threads into this new discussion today.  Since many of these discussions were originally parallel, the dates and some of the context will now appear somewhat out of chronological order.  Please keep that in mind while browsing this thread.
If you are presently experiencing the 1 long and 2 short beep code with a black screen on boot up, I would recommend that you contact service at this time for assistance.
UPDATE 1/4/2011
Previously, I have advised customers to contact service for assistance with the symptoms discussed here. In an effort to maintain customer satisfaction and loyalty, Lenovo has repaired a number of systems as post warranty exceptions. Lenovo will continue the post warranty support; however, with some revisions to the extended coverage effective December 31, 2010.
Customers who experience these symptoms on qualifying models that are no more than six months beyond expiration of warranty should continue to contact support for assistance. This additional coverage ends March 31, 2011.
Coverage beyond this date is available under the terms and conditions of extended warranty or maintena... Read more

a few weeks ago when i went to my friends lan paty my pc looked dead when I was finished attaching things and booting it up, there was no signal from the graphics card (both my ati radeon 9550 and onboard one). And there was no beep when starting the pc. Clearing cmos helped me out, my pc was running again. but when I came home i had exactely the same problem (AGAIN.. ). But again clearing cmos helped me out. Anyway last friday my dad took out my memory beacuse he wanted to buy mine so i could buy new (btw when he discovered the max. fsb he didnt want to buy them anymore)(ow and it are 2 256 mb sticks at 266 mHz). When i was booting up again i had the same problem again, but this time clearing cmos did not help me out. When booting up all fans start spinning and all drives work. I've tried another memory stick (my dad's new one, 512 mb and i had set the jumpers to 266 mHz once again) with no effect. I tried all possible combinations with placing my memory sticks).without graphics card and only the onboard one, it doesnt work either. :blackeye:

I'm getting kinda desparate as i'm really hoping it isnt my main board or cpu that has died. Ow, and about the cpu, i got a u-cop (shuts my sustem down when my cpu reaches 65 degrees celcius. This happened several times but should not have damaged my cpu as it should be capable of handeling much higher temperatures. My father's motherboard crashed. I had another computer like his. Put his hard disk in this computer. Boots fine except it beeps a single beep during welcome screen on Windows load. Father says his machine has been doing this for two years. Machine also runs a bit slow even on dual u320 15,000 rpm SCSI stripe that I cloned his disk onto in an attempt to speed it up.

Father regularly cleaned with CCleaner (probably cleaned registry) and Defragged. I ran Startuplite that removed a few things. Still slow and beeps on welcome screen. While running GMER, it errors and windows shuts it down while checking registry.

Since GMER crashes, I can't include that file, but attached is the dds file.

I don't have his copy of windows. He didn't think to give it to me before I left with the computer 200 miles away.

After I first boot up my PC and then enter the windows XP logon screen, within five seconds or so I hear only one short beep sound coming from the motherboard speaker (not the other auxiliary speakers). Previously I do not recall hearing this sound at the XP Welcome screen after booting up. Does anyone know what this means and how I can stop it?

Windows XP Home Edition SP3.

Answer:XP welcome screen short beep

This tweak prevents the system beeps from being audible without altering any other audio settings.

[Start] [Run] [Regedit]
Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Sound
Modify/Create the Value Data Type(s) and Value Name(s) as detailed below.
Data Type: REG_SZ [String Value] // Value Name: Beeps
Setting for Value Data: [0 = Disabled / 1 = Enabled]
Exit Registry and Reboot

I spent a few hours last night trying to fix the problem, but my desktop was acting a bit funny last night and i rebooted it, since that, it hasn't booted back up. I thought it was the video card at first, so I tried that, but no. I thought it was the ram, so I tested with one stick at a time - nope. I thought it was the bios, so i reset it - nope. I thought it was the powersupply, but it was still powering the fans.

So, it's either the cpu or the motherboard. I have an nf7s and the cpu isn't allowed to get hotter than 65c and the warning rings at 55.

my guess is that its the mobo, but outside opinion would be gladly appreciated.

I Need help! Blank screen and two short beeps

Motherboard:Asus P5N-E SLI
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo processor
Graphic Card: Geforce 5200 pxi graphic card
Case: Raidmax Smilodon
Ram: Kingston Valueram 512 mb 667 DD2

I recently brought the P5N-E SLI motherboard from newegg. I been having problem getting it to boot or show something on the screen. I'm using a geforce 5200 pci graphic, 500 walt raidmax psu and case, and Kingston valueram of 512 mb that runs at 667 mhz DDR2 ram. Everytime I press the power button the fans would start on the cpu and case. After a few second I would get one short beep. Two seconds later I would get another short beep.

your Flavor of BIOS on that motherboard shouldn't be making just one beep....

the AMI BIOS with one beep means bad ram.

When i switch on the pc, battery light turns on, hdd led light blinks and switch off. Screen remains off. Fan is running. Cd drive is working. I removed the battery and pressed the power button for long. Tried to boot by connecting to the main power. No result. When i remove ram, it started beeping. I removed hdd and tested in another pc. Hdd is working fine. Please help me to trouble shoot this issue.

Answer:Blank screen without beep

Unplug the system, remove or disconnect the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Remove and reinstall both memory modules and the hard drive.
Verify that the LED on the AC adapter is ON before you plug in the notebook end.  Try powering up on AC only.  If it will without the battery but not with it installed, the battery is bad -- replace it with a new one.
If it still won't power up, try one memory module at a time until you isolate the bad module (replace that) or bad socket (replace the mainboard in that case).
If you still get nothing, the mainboard is bad.
If  you require further inforomation, please supply the system model (i.e., Inspiron 5571, XPS L701x, etc.).

sorry but if I remember correctly you need a new systembord but prior to buying one start by removing all memory and anything attached that is not part of the basic setup codes should change if they get video start installing one at a time.

My computer that had been on for a few hours suddenly locked up or something. I hadn't used it for 30 minutes and was then going to check something on the internet. The monitor was black, and nothing happened when I pressed keys or moved the mouse.
The led was still shining on the comp though.
So, I restart and nothing... The PSU fan is spinning, the processorfan is spinning and I think the harddrive is working, but theres no startup beep from the motherboard whatsoever. Nothing on the monitor either.
I removed all RAM sticks and then the motherboard made some error beep sound when I tried to start up again.
So I replaced and tried one memorystick at a time, same result, just silence and a black monitor. I tried different slots for the memorysticks...same result.
Whats up? Dead motherboard? All memorysticks dead?
Any help appreciated!

Perhaps this should be posted in the hardware forum, I dunno...

Mine is T400 bought in NUS, Vista OS. Very happy experience using this fatastic laptop, only a few minor questions  First question is How I can set my screen resolution high than 1280*800, which is right now the highest I can find on the display settings.  Second (a general question maybe): every time I plug in and out the AC cable, my T400 makes a loud beep, and also the case when hibernating or waking from hibernation, which is very annoying ....... It is best if the beep can be cancelled. Thanks for helping me.Message Edited by dcbayer04 on 08-27-2008 11:43 PM
