Computer Crash

Question: Computer Crash

Alright, so ive been having problems with my CPU crashing, and i say CPU and not PC because after it crashes everything BUT the CPU is still on. So my first assumption was that the CPU fan is failing, wich made sense because its old and dosent perform well at all. When i say "Crashes" i mean that everything is completely fine, then all of a sudden i start hearing electrical noise in the speakers, along with whatever music i have on (the kind of noise u get when u drag ur speaker cable's end - the one that goes into the PC, across a metalic surface), and 5 seconds later the screen goes blank and everything that has to do with the CPU stops working but i can still see lights and sense heat.So my first theory that the problem is with the CPU fan and that the CPU is causing the crash is wrong, because i checked the CPU tempereture and the CPU fan speed right before it crashed. The CPU temperature was 68c wich is low since it usually "loads" at 76c. Also the CPU fan WASNT failing since it was doing a solid 3000 RPM when it crashed and didnt go down at all - the electrical noise in the speakers isnt caused by the CPU fan or the CPU.My second guess now, is that it is the PSU, since its old and has barely 18A on the +12v rail, wich should be enough for my CPU and graphics card, with room for expansion to a robust 7600 GS, but then maybe its failing because it just sucks.. However if the PSU is failing, why is there still light coming from the PC, on the motherboard? So this theory must be wrong aswell. It has happened only 4 time - twice today and twice along the last 3 months, and there has been nothing new added/changed with the PC. I have opened the PC case (taken off the side) to help the CPU fan until i buy a new GPU and thus CPU fan, but that was over 2 weeks ago.Oh, last but not least.. when the PC/CPU crashes - I smell faint smoke.. as if something was singed. My PC specs:Pentium 4 prescott @ 3.0Ghz 800FSB1024MB DDR-400 PC-3200500w PSU (18A +12v)nVidia Geforce FX 52001x 80 GB HDD, 1x CD-RW, 1x DVD-ROMThnx!

Preferred Solution: Computer Crash

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Computer Crash

Track.... Have you gone into control panel/administrative tools/Event viewer and had a look to see if anything shows up in there ?QuoteOh, last but not least.. when the PC/CPU crashes - I smell faint smoke.. as if something was singed. ....... Thats not good , have you carefully inspected the MOBO for any signs of discolouration ? I would be inclined to test as many of the components as possible in another machine to eliminate the possibilities. The fact that the fault, whatever it is, is so intermittent makes it very difficult to pin down. Hopefully there will be a clue in the event viewer.dl65

Hi there,

I am running a Vostro Dell Laptop running Vista and recently I have been having some seperate issues which I'm wondering are due to one major issue. I initially had problems with my Lexmark 1200 printer which stopped communicating with the computer. I solved this once but its immediatly stopped working again. I have now tried to reinstall the original software but no change, this time round I can't get it to work. This has in turn crashed Microsft Word whilst I have been trying to solve the printer. The same day Mozilla Firefox crashed.....I've now got this going again by reinstalling it but I have had to do this several times in the last month. My computer is now running quite slowly and over the las 6 months I have had to reinstall various programmes as they have stopped working for reasons unknown! This is not only becoming frustrating but I'm worried I may have deeper issues. I really just want everything to be working happily again (including my printer which started all this!).....any help gratefully recieved.

Thanks

I have a two year old Dell PC with Windows 7. I got a virus in my computer that by phone and computer takeover Norton located in my MBR. When they cleaned it my computer will no longer boot up. Norton worked with me for three days on the problem but we were unable to fix the computer. I followed other web sites and repaired my MBR but it still will not boot up. I tried System Repair, Check point, Image, and Dell system restore and all failed. I have tried to use the Windows install CD and all I get is a black screen with a flashing cursor and then after 3 minutes the compute attempts to boot again and fails. I tried everything to try and wipe the drive from C prompt and it will not let me. I have very weak computer skills but I can follow directions and I have wiped a previous computer I owned. (I confirmed that my CD drive is working) I also should mention I have a second hard drive on my computer that I backed everything up to.

Answer:Dell Computer PC will not load Windows install CD from computer crash

See if you can reset the BIOS hardware/software connections and then clear the CMOS to access your Windows 7 install disc.
Resetting hardware/software connections in the BIOS and clearing temporary memory of corruption:Shut down and turn off the computer.
Unplug the computer from the wall or surge protector (then remove the battery if it is a laptop).
"Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station, disconnect
cables to printers or devices such as external monitors, USB memory sticks or SD cards, headset or external speakers, mouse or auxiliary keyboard, turn off WIFI and Bluetooth wireless devices." (Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues HP Pavilion dv5000 Notebook PC series - HP Customer Care (United States - English))
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. This closes the circuit and ensures all
power from components is drained to clear the software connections between the BIOS
and hardware and clear any corruption in the temporary memory.
(If it is a laptop, plug the battery back into the laptop and then) Plug the computer back into the wall. Do not reconnect any unnecessary peripherals; monitor, keyboard,
and mouse should suffice and be the only peripherals reconnected.
Turn it on to reinitialize the software connections between the BIOS and hardware

Clear the CMOS:Use your system manual to find instructions for accessing the BIOS...
In the BIOS, go to the EXIT screen...
Choose load setup/optimized defaults... Read more

Question: Computer Crash

Hello, I recently bought parts to build a computer and managed to build it just fine, I was lacking an operating system however I know a guy that owns a shop that charged me a bit for installing an Operating system on my PC because I don't own an Operating system, mind you I would've rather done it myself.

I ran through the BIOS a couple of times before handing it over to him to install the Operating system (I left everything at default). Next morning I went to his shop and he told me the XP was installed just fine with no problems and he let me try at his store before I left.

Now the problem kicks in. I lifted the heavy tower back home and it keeps crashing every time the XP is at its loading screen. I've ruled out every possibility that I can think of and the only explanation i can come up with is that the peripherals are causing problems however the same peripherals were working fine when I was going through the BIOS and whenever I bring the tower to him at his peripherals it works perfectly fine as well.

Some of my computer specs are in my profile, if you'd like some more details I'd be happy to post them but I gotta run to the store where I bought my parts now maybe they have an answer. However I'll really appreciate any help I can get anywhere because I'm getting increasingly frustrated. I spent 2 days and a lot of money on this, I really want it to work.

Question: computer crash

i have a hp pavilion 740n and ive been recently installing drivers for SiS sound, graphics, and everything else. when i installed it the first time, my sound was not working at all. so i rolled back the drivers and reinstalled them. when i was doing that the driver search on their website told me to get another one. while installing 1 could not be installed so i finished without it. after i did all this i restarted my computer and now whenever it gets to the end of the windows xp loader my computer crashes and goes back and starts loading up again.i need help without emptying my entire hard drive.

Answer:computer crash

Does it function without any of those drivers loaded? If so, just load one and see if it runs to find out where the problem is. It is vitally important to have the correct drivers. What happened requiring the reinstall.

Question: Computer Crash

I have a HP Pavilion DV6 that is BSOD no matter what I do. When trying to boot windows it go to starting windows and then crashes. I was able to get to the beginning portion of the system restore to factory default. On the first restart after preparation the system BSOD again and will not go any further. I have also tried to restore off a backup cd with the same problem. It will load files, but when it gets to starting windows the system crashes. I have ran system tests and memory and hard drive passed. Not sure where I go from here. I have read a driver problem on the DV6 can cause problems, but cannot get into Windows to find out the information. I also tried switching out the hard drive and reimaging it, but it would BSOD also.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Computer Crash

Anyone have any thoughts? Not sure if this is more of a infection or if it is a hardware problem. Starting to think more hardware, but I am not sure how to move a post to hardware. I have tried other hard drives and it comes up with the same errors.

Bsc0793 Hi and welcome

I wonder if you might have a backup from prior to the problem that we can restore from. If not do you have a windows 7 dvd from which to do a repair install?

Does you computer do the same thing when you boot into safe mode (F8)?

Can you at least get back to your normal desktop?

Question: Computer Crash

Hopefully someone can help me with this. Recently after clearing up my computer I came across an odd situation that caused it to crash. Anytime I ran Tibia.exe (a game client) my computer CPU usage would hit 100% (normally on my computer thats fine) then the fan would get faster and louder and after about 20-25 seconds the computer crashes as if it has over heated (even though the heat is fine) at first I thought it was the sensor so I cleaned it out with compressed air, no difference. I then checked my drivers and found my VGA Controller card driver was uninstall so I reinstalled it. Once again no difference. This happens any time I open tibia but also when im Archiving (adding to .rar) files or running to many processes and this has never happened before. I could reformat the computer but I would prefer to leave that to a last resortSo if you have any ideas or suggestions of what I can do please post them here.

Is it when you first switch on or after its been on for a while? Is there something you do just prior to it crashing or is it totally random? Question: Computer crash

My computer started crashing about a week ago and I'm fairly certain the problem stemmed from the downloading of torrents without proper protection. The first two crashes happened while the computer was unattended and booted normally afterwords all subsequent reboots where either done through system restore points or in safe mode computer seems to crash when I run scans of it to attempt to remove malware and when I changed folder options to show all. I was able to run all scans in vista cleaning procedure except combofix my computer crashed half-way through it. Also Microsoft security detected a couple of Trojans which were Win32/Pacoheir.B, Win32/Trufip!rts, ASX/Wimbad.BL and .BW, Win32/Dursg.C, Win32/Alureon.CT, and Win32/Renos.JM. Question: Computer Crash?

Hi, I am using a Toshiba laptop. I'm not sure about some of the specs on it. But I know it's a newer model (meaning 3 years old at most), and I also don't have administrative rights. But the problem is, sometimes when i'm online everything will be fine and then out of nowhere I notice the bar at the bottom (with the start button and all the icons on the right) are gone, then I minimize whatever window(s) I have up and realize everything has disappeared except for the background image. All the icons are gone and everything. And I can't figure out whats causing it. Although I think I have an idea, beacuse once I downloaded something and I believe it had some kind of spyware or adware in it, but the anti-virus isn't picking it up. It's a .dll file and i've tried deleting it, and renaming it to delete it, but it's not working. And i'm not even sure if that's the problem or not. Please someone help me.

Thank you

-Ty

Answer:Computer Crash?

Try Malwarebytes, it's most likely a Vundo variant infection

CNET's Download.com has the latest version - it's free. It should load o.k., some other spyware/malware removers aren't particularly good with this type of infection. I just wen't through a similar problem and used it very successfully. After you install it, make sure to run the updater and do full system scan, it might even take a few scans to clean out restore point images - but don't panic. It works.

Question: Computer Crash?

My home PC just crashed yesterday. About 2-3 months ago it started acting funny and narrowed the problem down to the #2 RAM slot. I went out and purchased a new memory stick but it did not fix it so I figured that it was the mother board. I removed the stick, rebooted and all was fine. A couple of days ago the computer just started closing with "Windows experienced an unexpected problem and had to shut down" message and so I rebooted and that seemed to work. Well it happened again and so I rebooted then ran AVG and S&D to check for problems. I ran them at the same time (probably not a good idea) but everything was going good until I back from a restroom break and the monitor was off and he computer was beeping! Wiggled the mouse and no response, tried to reboot and no display. My question is does anyone think that this is virus related or just hardware failure? By the way it is a HP desktop with dual core AMD processors I believe.:confused

Answer:Computer Crash?

You said the machine was beeping, what were the beeps like and did you check with HP to see what those beeps mean? Ya know, one short one long, continuous etc. You get the idea? It'll narrow the problem down for ya.

I decided to run a check on my PC today and run Ad aware, Spybot, and my Norton AV. when running, ALL three crashed my computer half way through the system check. I did another restart of Ad aware and it completed the check OK (nothing found), but Spybot crashed again.I haven't tried Norton again, but for what reason could this happen, hope someone has an answer.Apart from this, my PC seems to be running OK???OS XP home.

Answer:Computer crash: Why??

Did you run them all at the same time when the crash happened?

-------------------------------------

Before doing anything else, make sure that your version of Windows is completely up-to-date, by doing:
Start --> All Programs --> Windows Update
and then installing all 'important updates'.

After each time that you install all 'important updates', restart your computer, just to be on the 'safe side'.

You need to repeat the above actions (downloading and installing all 'important updates', and restarting your computer) until there are no more 'important updates' from Microsoft.

If your computer still crashes after it is up-to-date, then please follow the 'Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions', which are near the top of the first page of this Forum (Windows Vista/Windows 7 Support).

Question: computer crash

I had big problems with my computer last week so had to reinstall everything as all things on my C drive are gone. Am not back to square one. First off my icons on the desktop won't move and I dont' know how to move them. The picture on the desktop won't cover the whole screen and my tool bar at the bottom of the screen is too big and I can't move anything. Also I cannot locate the Kazaa lite place to download music again. This is terrible. I had everything working just great and now it it is awful.

I did order a new computer with a DVD burner on it and now want to know where I can go to download movies. I have so much new to learn here.

Will be spending this entire weekend putting things back on here. Sounds like fun but at least my old compute r is working again. Appreciate your help once more.

Thanks.

Sorry, half the stuff there is illegal, which we dont support. Also, for the real problems, such as the desktop things, you might try OS's also(movement by mods?) Just a thought

hi all, i am trying to figure out how my laptop crashed. first off, my hp 2000 series keeps getting hot and the charge doesn't stay long. i can have it fully charged and it last for maybe an hour unplugged. when i am working on something and i can't get to the charger on time, it shuts down improperly. now my laptop won't come on. i get as far as the hp screen and then it goes blank with the words operating system not found that keeps flashing at the top of the screen. how can i get it back running??

Answer:computer crash

Hi,

It may be possible to reset it to the factory default settings, or better still a safe boot mode so you dont lose any files/data....but we need more details. Is it a Pavilion DV2000? Was the laptop purchased with Windows already installed?

Windows could not startbecause the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

you can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the orginal setup CD-ROM,
select 'r' at the first screen to start repair
I know most people in here know the solution to this problem, but here is the twist

not only do i not have the cd. but my computer does not have a cd drive.

Nice computer right. Well it wasn't my choice. the former school i attended made them mandatory class room material. all of the software was installed by them and paid for by me. NICE SCHOOL HUH?

and one more twist. i graduated from this school two years ago and they switched the brand of computers they deal with the year after i bought this one. to ones that have a CD drive.

So im thinking my computer has been turned into a paper weight. Am i correct?

Answer:help computer crash

welcome to PCR

Well, one can buy a CD drive, internal or external very cheaply, then borrow a Windows CD off a friend making sure you use Home for Home & Pro for Pro.

You will have a "sticker" on your system somewhere with your key, use that & not your friends.

Name & shame the school, we'd love to know who the idiots are, save sending our children and save money.

Question: computer crash

i autually have two questions.fist how can you tell if your computer is 64 or 32bit. I went to boot up my computer one day and it starts to boot up and then freezes in a sectiion that says the following:
PXE-E53: NO BOOT FILENAME RECEIVED

PXE-MOF; Exiting PXE ROM.
No Bootable device --- insert boot disk and press any key.

I was able to get into the boot menu by hitting F12... it showed the following information:

1. hdd
2. cd/dvd
3. usb memory
4. fdd
5. lan

(enter setup)

ok i bought this computer from my buddy for 200.00

he never gave me any disk or anything...is someone out there able to help me boot and recover my computer. I was told to download a window 7 recovery boot disk and it would work, but don't seem to be able to find one. I was hoping someone might have a boot disk recovery disk they might let me copy.

any and all help will be greatly appreciated...

Answer:computer crash

Hi dennisdj,
_To tell if your PC is 32-bit or 64-bit simply go to control panel and search for system then click it and you should see here mine is 64-bit: and for the second problem it is really hard to find a fix or that problem if you browse the same topic as yours it will aways end up with no fix so i recommend dong a refresh or a fresh install of your PC.

Question: Computer Crash

Yesterday while playing WoW after about 2 hours my computer screen went a weird pattern and color (has happened before so i didn't think twice about it and shut it down and restarted it). When i restarted it this time it wouldn't go past the Windows loading screen. It kept restarting itself. After a while i began troubleshooting what i could and i elliminated the possibilities that the problems are my video card (swapped it with another, no difference) R.A.M (did the same). I unplugged all my peripherals and left my keyboard mouse and monitor only. I proceeded to go into the windows repair consol and did a CHKDSK which i think kind of helped (i could see an error message this time, which came after the windows loading screen) The error message said, exactly:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for BIOS updates. Disable memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, respart your computer, press F8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.

Answer:Computer Crash

download memtest86+ from memtest.org

the ISO verions if for booting from CD, the "pre-compiled package for floppy" is for booting from floppy.

once it boots it runs automatically.

Even though you got the same error message from windows with 2 different sets of Ram sticks, run memtest anyway... maybe your motherboard is causing Ram errors, not the Ram itself.

EDIT: may also wont to try a different IDE or SATA cable for your Boot HDD, witchever you may use.

EDIT: if you were Overclocking.... did you already try resetting CMOS? because thtats the first thing you should do.

Question: Computer crash!!

So yesterday I installed an additional 500 gb hd successfully and started putting stuff onto it. I backed up my music and put setup files that I usually need onto it as well. Then I downloaded something and got the BSOD. I installed a fresh copy of XP and noticed that my 500 GB hard drive wasn't showing up. Instead I saw two partitions of my 120 GB hard drive and another 127 gb partition. I don't know what's going on. My computer detects the hard drive under device manager but only shows those three partitions under disk manager. How do I make the computer see all 500 GB?

Hi!Ok, so Wednesday morn I boot up my 3 year old HP Windows XP desktop that I have never had a problem with. Well just before the log in menu is suppose to come up, THE BSOD came!! (Black Screen Of Death), only this black screen had a blinking horizontal (underscore) at the top left. Oh dear, let me add that  I run my home computer/entire office out of this little thing. So, I cold boot, retry, again...nothing.So, I turn back on, and the blue HP screen comes up, at the bottome f10 for setup, etc etc. So, I push f10 - and start the setup. Me, not being that computer savvy, and not knowing what else to do, start the process of wiping out my entire computer. My smart daughter comes over, and together we realize that my computer, files, all of my programs I use for work will be wiped out! EKK...not good. Thinking on impluse we turn off the computer (cold boot). Now what? We turned back on the computer and it began to start up, this time the BSOD did not come up (yay) BUT a black screen with a windows message did. Reading something like `You have not fully completed/installed the setup. Please finish`. Our only option is to puch OK , begins to restart and then it will come to that message, push OK, begins to restart and then comes to that message. Next quick thinking solution, SAFE MODE..where is it? It isn;t there, maybe because we have half finished the set up? :confused:Next idea...what about the 3 year warranty I purchised through Staples, stil in affect? YES! Call St... Read more

Hello everyone,
I'm completely new to this website. I have been having serious problems with my computer for about 6 months now. Its been randomly restarting itself. At first i just thought that it was a virus or some type of spy ware so i ran all kinds of virus and spy ware programs and i came up completely blank. So i then did a system restore and after the restore its fine for about a month. Due to the system restore I've personally ruled out a hardware problem so im still thinking its a virus or spyware? I recently wandered if my operating system had a currupted file or something so i deleted the partition and reloaded the operating system. Thus its been about a month since i've done that and today it started up again. So i dont know what to do. Ive looked at my event logs and it doesnt even show up there because it happens so abruptly so i dont know what to do now. If anyone has any oppion on this or a fix it would be greatly appreciated. I will place basic specs below if any other info is needed please ask i will be greatful to give any info needed.

Answer:Help Please. Computer Crash

No Changes have been made its completely the way it came from the factory. So you havnt installed anything at all since you recovered it a month ago?there may be a driver or something conflicting without throwing up a bsodand one more question, what do you have in the way of antivirus?it could be a site you frequent that has a parasite associated with it

you can buy a windows XP retail Cd and install it
the dell is a recovery CD for a dell machine and sold as such

but someone had deleted the C driveClick to expand...

Thats a bit more serious than a crash, and a different problem statement - please expand......

model of the hp would help
the pc may have a recovery partition - some models you use F10 as it boots to access this area and return the PC to factory condition

Laptops are fairly notorious for heat build up and i certainly would not leave one on overnight, even if downloading. The fact that it happens overnight or when you are not there does seem to point to heat build up as it only seems to happen when left on a while.Only my opinion, perhaps someone with more experience with laptops can confirm or poo poo my theory.

Question: Computer crash

I have Laptop Compaq Prosignia 150, Windows 98 2nd ed.
160 ram

Recently my screen went blank, then it said I lost DLL and would have to re-install Windows 98. I ran the Quick Restore cd without reading all instructions. I have lost everything on here including some of the paint I think. A Big mistake probably here.

I have windows back, email is now ok, I can setup up favorite channels with passwords, etc.
I have backed up some of my personal stuff with floppys but when I run them they show
nothing but a bunch of zeros.0000000 maybe a few words also.

I only have Word Pad now. Can't get Microsoft Word and Excel. I had floppies for Microsoft works 4.0 dated 1995 but they won't download. My printer is working now. I do have Yahoo Games now but it was hard to get established. I have Panda anti-virus.

I am not a Computer Expert at 74 yrs of age. Any advice other than throw computer in trash can and buy a new one.

I would be in pretty good shape if I could get Microsoft Works and/or Microsoft Word. Will have to do a lot of typing to make new personal addresses, etc.

Thanks.

Answer:Computer crash

It depends on what you want to get back or to what state you want the laptop to be in. If everything is running OK, meaning the operating system Windows98 SE, then the computer could still be a good tool for you. If you'd rather not spend the money on Works or a full version of Office you can do a couple things. Go here and download this Word viewer. It's free and will allow you to see your old saved Word files.

http://www.microsoft.com/office/000/viewers.asp

If you want to go a step further go here and download OpenOffice, click the green box:

http://www.openoffice.org/

Open Office is a complete office suite, not as robust as Microsoft but plenty useable and FREE.

That should give you some options.

Hi all,Still got an ongoing problem with my computer. It seems the frequencies between the computer crashing are getting quicker (or I'm just getting more annoyed). It seems that most (not all) the times are when I'm on the Internet.I've had some problems with IE in that the home page keeps returning to a dodgy site and I wondered whether this might be related (I've run Adaware, Spwareblaster, Spybot, AVG and windows washer) but the problem remains. Not sure what to do now (using Windows XP). It is possible you had a power fluctuation from the power company. Some devices, like your modem, can be unplugged for a second or two and then plugged back in, and they are fine. Others, like computers, respond to voltage drops by shutting down.

I wouldn't worry about it unless it becomes a problem.

Question: Computer crash

Hello there far away,

I have problems with my Dell Dimension XPS 9150. I have Windows XP Professional Media Center 2005. Sinds Sunday 22 november I have blue screen and even I try to start with the Windows install cd, nothing helps, I always get the blue screen.
First blue message was ksecdd.sys - address F6F9EE2C base at F6F8A000, Date Stamp 41107b51, Page Fault In NonPaged Area.
Last blue message was due `adpu160m.sys - address F71AE58B base at F71A9000 DateStamp 3b14bade`

What happened:
Last sunday afternoon was here for short bad weather (it was ? 16:00h). The pc was on. We saw no problems. We went later to dinner. The pc stayed on. After dinner went my son on the computer till about 19:00h. He used the pc without problems en set the pc off.
Later same evening I went on the pc. I started the pc as usually but I got quikly the blue screen. I tryed several times, also with the install Windows cd-rom, but no way, no option works. I tryed the Dell harware utility, the only option that works. Everything is PASS, except: Error Code
F00:0119 Msg. System memory failue read 00000800h, expected 00000000h at address 0A35400h-suspected memory component located on Systemboard at label DIMM_1. Same message (with different read/expected address) for DIMM_2. STOP: 0x00000050 (0xE1666000, 0x 00000001, 0x80577D93, 0x00000001)

I thought that due to bad weather the DIMM?s are burned. But both of them? Or the motherboard? But the bad weather was at 16:00h and the pc worked ok ... Read more

Answer:Computer crash

Download memtest and burn the iso image to a CD and boot off of the CD and run the tests with each Dimm separately and then together.

Hope some one might be able to help me with this problem soon. Here is what happened; I put a cd into my cd rom & it wouldn't read it, so I thought maybe my cd rom was the problem. I unplugged the power cord for my cd rom & when I did, I accidently bumped one of the posts on the cd rom. My computer instantly shut down. I then proceeded to reboot my computer & when I did, it booted up but when it got to the Windows screen, it would not load & just stayed at that point. The task bar at the bottom right of my screen showed that it was loading, but would not go any further & would not open Windows.

Can anyone tell me what might have happened & what I need to do to get my computer up & running again? I am running Windows 2000 as my operating system. Any feedback will be very much appreciated. Thanks

Question: Computer crash

My computer keeps crashing, I believe it is the memory. Started when I was playing a video game and graphics went bad then I got a blue screen and it said memory dump. I thought the first thing was that my RAM went bad. Bought new RAM to test it and same thing continued. I am thinking that the video card would be the next piece to try and replace. Any other ideas as to what the problem might be?

Answer:Computer crash

There really isn't any information given that allows us to make even an educated guess. Therefore...

How to find and post your Minidump Files:

My Computer > C Drive > Windows Folder > Minidump Folder > Minidump Files.

It is these files that we need (not the folder). Attach to your next post the five most recent dumps. Notice the Manage Attachments button at the bottom when you go to post the next time. You can Zip up to five files per Zip; if you only have one or two you don?t need to zip them, just attach as is. Please do us a favor and don?t Zip each one individually

I have a computer its a HP with windows xp was running fine then the power flashed off and back on and when I turned it back on it will only go to that black screen where you can boot up in safe mode normal mode or last known working version of windows , no matter which you choose it just goes back to that same screen , tried to go into recovery but it only brings up a blue screen and doesnt do anything else . Is it dead or just stuck ? help would be appreciated

Answer:computer crash

I really need to get that new battery for my battery backup...

Sounds like something may have gotten zapped. Can you get into the BIOS? If you can, that might let you look around a bit at your devices. Also, remove any extra hardware that you don't need to boot (extra hard drives, CD/DVD...).

If you are passing POST (Power On Self Test) I would suspect the PSU or the hard drive. Can you test the power supply with a multimeter?

A bootable CD would be a good thing to try (reconnect CD/DVD drive). Many Linux distros can run from the CD drive.

Question: Computer crash

Hi All
My daughters computer was fine this morning when she checked her email.
Tonight it wouldn't boot. Error message said it had a file missing namely mpr.dll.
The computer was built by her ex boyfriend and had no recovery disk.
It is XP pro with a very old Maxtor 20 GB hard drive.
I have an xp home disk for my own computer and decided to try to reboot daughters computer to a recovery state. It said that no hard drive was found......hmmmmmmmmmm.

Is it possible that the old hard drive has died? or could there be some other problem

All suggestions gratefully received!

Answer:Computer crash

have you tried the drive connected to another PC as Slave, as it sounds like HDD is about to die, if you can then you might be able to recover any files from this drive

Question: Computer crash

Hello, for a couple of months now - ever since I got it - my computer has been crashing every now and then.

Most of the time when the computer crash it simply restarts - as if you pressed "Restart" - but other times my games (this only happens in fullscreen applications) freezes up and the sound hangs up, screeching and sounding like old modem connection tone (sort of), you know the sound?

Anyway been looking here and there, someone said it might be my SSD so I updated all firmware but to no avail. All in all I've done a few tweaks here and there but never anything that actually would solve it. I'm suspecting it's not my SSD but perhaps a faulty RAM or some of the sort.

I have checked the tempratures but they seem to be within the OK range; right after my computer has crashed, I can let it boot up and start up any applications without delay or issue (say, a game; and it won't drop in FPS). So it feels weird if it's temprature issues; shouldn't the computer be slower or flat out refuse to boot up?

I'm thinking it might be better to start a whole new troubleshoot process to locate the problem (because frankly I don't remember what I have done and haven't done).

Before, it only crashed a day or so, but then gradually over the latest few weeks it has begun crashing more and more. Now it can crash up to ten times a day.

Please, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hello,

My computer stopped working and then the screen where I can chose safe start and all the other options appear. The problem is that when the screen showing that the windows is loading, after 3-4 seconds the computer stop working and the screen with safe start and start windows normally appear and is non-stop cycle. Same thing over and over again, like the power is cut. I?ve checked all cables and everything is all right.

Can anyone help me? Any ideas, other than ?buy a new computer?? Anyone can tell me what?s wrong?

Answer:computer crash

Boot off of the XP CD Or download the Recovery Console ISO. Burn it to CD with IMGBurn and get to the Recovery Console. Here type chkdsk /R and press enter. The Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors.
You can also download the ISO image for Drive Fitness Test in my signature and burn the image to a CD using IMGBurn and boot off of the newly created CD and run the short and extended tests on the HDD to test the integrity of the drive.

Question: computer crash

OK, Dads computer crashed today and, of course, my Dad expects me to pull a magic fix out of my back pocket. I am somewhat knowledgible person but I haven't done a lot computer repair and I can't afford to run back and forth to his house. But enough rambling. The other day he couldn't get his floppy drive to work and now it will not boot up. All he gets on his display is a flashing cursor in the upper left corner and that is it. He said one time about it saying to hit F2 before it went blank but at that point I am thinking it was going through its normal boot sequence. I am suspecting a bad hard drive which I believe he just replaced a year or so ago, or the motherboard crashed...Any input will help before he makes me want to hang myself?

Answer:computer crash

Verify that he doesn't have a floppy disk in the drive.

We got the following error when we rebooted the computer:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\CONFIG/SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Set-up using the origional set-up cd-rom

Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair

Does that mean all of our data on the computer is lost or just the windows xp system is not working? Please let me know asap!

It is a Dell Computer that we got from Dell.com that is referbished and all the software was loaded by them before we got the computer. The following is a list of cd rom's we got from Dell with our computer:

OPERATING SYSTEM
Reinstallation CD
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

In fine print is says Only use this CD to reinstall the operating system on a Dell Computer. This CD is not for reinstallation of programs or drivers

APPLICATIONS
Dell Tools CD
For Reinstalling Dell-Installed Software

In fine print is says This CD contains programs installed by Dell on your hard drive. Use this CD only if you need to reinstall any of these programs on you Dell Computer

Includes:

Antivirus Software
Support Software
Multimedia Software
Internet Software

Which would be the CD to use to fix above problem or I'm I missing something?

Thanks

Tamara

Answer:Computer Crash!!!!!! Help

It would be the one with the operating system on it - however i suggest to get in touch with DELL. Maybe the harddrive got damaged in transit or was corrupted from the start.
I wouldnt use anything that causes problems even before you boot it up the first time - be persistent and make them replace it while you still can.

Question: Computer crash!

Ok I had this rather serious problem for quite some time now, maybe more then a year if I recall correctly. I had my computer sent to a tech support, but they returned it after 2 months, claiming they couldn't find any problems.

Well, the thing is, my computer crashes almost immediately as I run an internet connection and sound, from a movie clip, game or .mp3, at the same time. In rare occassions, just internet connection will terminate the whole comp. A monoton, prolonged beep will be heard (at _loud_ volume) in my speakers. There's nothing to do but restart the comp via the power button at this point.

I can't play online games or use my internet at the same time as I listen to music.

So, what am I supposed to do? I'm not even sure if it's a hardware or software issue, but I know it's disturbing as hell. And I want to get rid of it.

Regards
Vizcire

Question: Computer Crash!

Okay, I'm new here, so go easy on me. I was using on my computer and all of a sudden my norton anti-virus pops up saying I have a trojan horse virus in my computer and that if I run a check that it will find it and fix the problem. I run the check and it tells me that the virus can't be removed automatically, but that I'll have to do it myself manually by putting it into safe mode and deleating all of the infected files. So I print out the instructions and turn off my computer and put into safe mode, but I can't do anything. All I see on the screen is black with writing on the top and bottom of the screen, I have tried going into adminastrator and uder my name, but it always goes to a black screen! The big problem is that it won't go back into regualar mode, So what can I do here?

My sisters computer... Ever since I made it faster in performance with AVG, this new program randomly turns off the computer when using the computer. I have tried regular and safe mode... The removal tool and uninstalling the program manually through cmd and doing features/programs uninstall. If anything, there is not enough time to work on the computer to fix it before it randomly turns off!! I can't even install anything like revo uninstaller.
What can I do? Please tell me anything I can possible do to fix this. :P

Answer:Computer Crash, AVG?

AVG does not randomly turn off a computer. You can test this theory by disabling AVG before the comptuer shuts down.
Is this a laptop or a desktop?
What is the make and model#?
It does sound like the computer is overheating and that's why it is shutting down.
Blow out all fans with a can of compressed air. If desktop, clean out all dust. Boot into Setup (Bios) go to PC Health and check the Temperatures.
If a laptop, use a Laptop Cooler pad.
