Sound issues?

Question: Sound issues?

So, I hope I put this in the right section Anyhoo, last night I was screwing around in Realtek HD Audio Manager, with the sound effects, which I've done before, so when I was done clicked on reset settings, so everything went back to normal. but instead it didn't go back to normal. When I listen to music, the vocals are pretty much gone and it's only the background music/vocals.The settings are the same as they've always been.I've tried doing a system restore but that didn't work. And I'm just really confused as to what I did, and how to fix it.If anyone could help me I'd greatly appreciate it!

Preferred Solution: Sound issues?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Sound issues?

Re-install the Realtek software...this should get you back to square one.

I recently downloaded a virus last week and it caused me to receive pop-ups, slow my internet down, and cause havoc on my processing power. I got most of it off, but somehow somewhere along the way my sound coming from my Logitech Z-2300 speakers starting going haywire. I recently reformatted my entire system and I am now running windows Vista. (I had Vista before the virus as well and sound worked fine, at least I think it did. I only had Vista for a day before I got the virus) My issues that I am having are below

-Music functions normally from Windows Media Player and iTunes until you start doing something else and the sound will cut out immediately.

-The first time this happend I was trying to record of Media Center with my TV Tuner

-I have the Audigy Z-2S disc that came with my computer, but it didn't seem to fix the problem while Vista searched for a solution on the disk. (I installed some stuff but It didn't fix anything)

-It does say on startup my PCI slot needs and can't find a driver.

These are my problems in a nutshell and If anybody can help me I would be greatly appreciated. I love my sound and music!!! If you all need more information I'll keep checking this repeatedly throughout the week.

My specs of my desktop are: Dell E510, 2.8 Dual Core, 2 Gig Memory, 250 gig HD, 256 Geforce 7300le, Audigy Sound Blaster 2-ZS soundcard, Logitech Z-2300 2.1 speakers.

Answer:Virus --> Sound Issues --> Reformat --> Still Sound Issues

You need Vista drivers for the sound card. This is the main reason I have not and will not purchase VIsta until After service pack 2, at a minimum, is released for Vista. It is a memory hog and there are very few drivers. We all faced the same thing when MS bumped up to XP from 98SE/ME. XP was buggy until service Pack 2. I would consider, If I were you, putting Vista on the shelf until most of the bugs are worked out. I guarentee you won't have sound card issues with XP. Hold on to Vista until at least Service Pack 1 is released and use for XP for now.

Good morning everyone,

I am having issues with sound on the M82 or 3306G1U as stated on the subject. The sound works perfectly fine for everything with the exception of Istation, www.istation.com. I did notice that this is only affecting 2 out of the 20 plus computers we have, so its a bit hard to say its just the model. I have tried updating the drivers to the latest version, and as well verified that it was not just the input device for front and back jacks being wonky. Oddly enough the support agent I worked with, used TeamViewer and was able to hear the application just fine, however when I used speakers it was very, very faint but I could also hear it.

Is there any general help anyone can provide me to pinpoint the problem further?

I'm not finding that model number, can you verify?   Running 'sys info' can usually also provide the model number (do not post serial numbers.)   And OS info and Istation version might be helpful.   Thx.

All of a sudden, my Lenovo Ideapad P500 (running Win 8) is having sound issues.  The sound will stay on for 5-10 minutes when I start it up or put it to sleep and then wake it up.  After that, the sound will just quit working?  FYI, the Windows 8 updates that were part of the Microsoft monthly security fixes were installed last week and the problem started today?? Does anyone have an idea what may be causing something like this to happen? Thanks in advance for your help!!D

Answer:Sound Issues Ideapad P500 - Sound stops working after 5 minutes

hi D,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

From your observation, it's possible that the root cause is the sound driver.

To verify, can you try the following:
1. Uninstall the Realtek HD Audio Driver from the Control Panel (large icon view) > Programs and Features and reboot

2. After the reboot, Windows will now install a generic sound driver (High Definition Audio). Try to re-create the issue that you're having and observe.

3. If using the generic sound driver fixes it, try re-installing the audio driver from the D:\Drivers\Audio folder or from this link:

Realtek Audio Driver for 64-bit Windows

Let me know how it goes.

Hey guys,

I have a Compaq Presario SRN5250nx that came equipped with windows Vista Home premium 32 bit operating system and came with the Realtek HDaudio which I have my speakers running on...

Now I have installed a Delta 66 soundcard for recording and mixing... that went fine, however the realtek audio has disappeared from my device manager, and will reappear once the soundcard is removed?? I'm not able to even access the realtek icon with the soundcard in as it is unresponsive??

I've updated the D66 sound card with the newest drivers for the system and it seems the only way to get sound would be to run in through the sound card, which I'd rather not do cause that would mean I'd have to go and buy new speakers which I'd like to avoid....

Optimally the soundcard would be enabled for recording then disable for any playback.... any thoughts or help would be much appreciated....

Answer:Sound issues with realtek hd audio and delta 66 sound card

In your device manager try trouble shooting the sound card, i had the same problem with my old laptop, but if you troubleshoot it, it should come up with "search for updates" or sumthing around that area, if so click on that and it will come up with "apply the fix?" click on that and it should start working again.

My problem, a Mk II type up using past tense rather than present. Pretty much defunct computer specs at bottom of quote, but similarities may occur.QuoteI had a large sound problem in that I was getting none. I had both the Creative Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit 7:1 surround sound card, and onboard (sound device built into your motherboard) Realtek AC'97 sound, but neither would produce an iota of sound.Applications to play media files reported that they were in fact playing them correctly, indicating that the problem lay not in the sound devices, but elsewhere. I had tried two sets of speakers and neither worked, and had tried plugging the audio out cable into various different jacks; still no sound.Driver updates did nothing, and disabling one sound card and then the other still had no effect. On to the solution: In the end I stumbled across the answer myself. I was tinkering with the Windows Volume Control, expecting to have no effect, but had quite the opposite. Here is the following steps I took (including by the shorter steps if available to you).Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Sounds and Audio Devices --> Advanced (in the default Volume tab underneath "Device Volume")ORDouble-click Taskbar Volume Control icon (I disabled mine)THENOptions --> Check "Advanced Controls". Hey all,

This started last night, the only thing that I did that was out of the ordinary was ran Avast's thourough scan fully, but even after that my sound worked, so it didnt delete the driver to my knowlege, but when I do a dxdiag and look at my audio, it doesn't exist, there is no sound card installed, and allI use is my DFI Lan Party UT RDX200 CF-DR mother boards on board sound. I tried installing the driver again fom DFI and to no success, now when I went to install the drive again, I got an error saying that this device isnt approved by Windows, could windows be preventing my audio card from working?

Thanks,

Hi,
I hope you can help with my sound issues!

I have a Satellite L500 that is 18mth old.

*Problem One*
Back in March I was having problems with my mic/sound. If I had my volume over 50% I would get a terrible squealing feedback sound that was difficult to mute (ie had to press mute a couple of times).

As I had a 2 year warranty I sent it away and they said they fixed it but it was only short term. The problem came right back. The only solution I found to having sound volume over 50% was to completely disable the mic.

*Problem Two*
For the last few weeks I have been randomly getting this high pitched, ongoing squealing sound which usually occurs when I am out in public with my laptop in my backpack (embarrassing!). I have to keep pressing mute to get the squeal to stop. Interestingly, my laptop is muted when it starts. Sometimes my laptop is hot when it occurs. Is this problem due to overheating?

Any solutions for both of my sound issues? Should I send it back to get repaired under my warranty? When I argued that it wasn't fixed the first time, they said Windows is probably corrupt and that isn't under warranty.

Thanks!

Kat

This should help you:

+Whistling sound on the Satellite L500+
+http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB0402UB0001R01.htm+

This issue occurs if the microphone volume in the speakers properties is enabled.
After disabling this point the issue with acoustic feedback does not appear anymore.

So this is not a hardware problem but setting issue. Using right settings will help you.

I'm not sure if this is all part of the same problem but there are multiple things going on. On my laptop ( its an HP Pavilion DV6, with an intel core i3 CPU @ 2.20ghz, & 64 but operating system ) The only way i can get any sound to play is if I watch videos in my firefox browser. No sound will play when i use Chrome (which I prefer) or Itunes, or windows media player. The problem with watching videos in firefox is that there is about a 20 second delay before the video will play, and an error comes up to stop the plug in or continue. If you close out of that box the video will play but you will get the same delay every time it is paused and started again. Browsing in Chrome and playing videos from that browser there is absolutely no lag, its lightening fast, but you will not get any sound. Other simple programs ( Like solitaire) have the same lag, each card you click takes about 20 seconds for the move to actually take place. I've tried messing with my sound drivers to correct the audio issues but I am not sure if it is an audio issue, a flash player issue, or a combination. Any input?

1)I'm having issues with my speakers not cutting off when I connect my headphones to them. The speakers are the Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 PC set, and I have tried two different sets of headphones, plus the sound is full of static and buzzing. I've also tried re-installing/updating my onboard sound driver, but that doesn't help. I do notice that when I connect my headphones to the speakers that the sound emitted from the speaker will lower by 25% but will not fully cut off. I'm also having issues with the front panel headphone jack on my computer case (Antec 1200 V3). The sound coming out of the headphones when connected to the front panel is filled with static and buzzing. I have tried re-grounding the front panel ground connector, but that didn't change anything. However, if I connect the headphones directly to the back of the computer, the sound works fine.

2)When watching Youtube videos each video has a hard time buffering. My speed is at 10 Mbps and it registers at that speed when I do a speedtest, plus all other websites work fine, it's just Youtube that I'm having a problem with. I've cleared the cache and tried using a different browser, but nothing helps.

I have also ran Malwarebytes AntiMalware, SUPERAntiSpyware, neither yielded any harmful results.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Everyone,

This issue has been going on for about a year now, both on 32 and 64 bit XP. My computer is around 3 years old, and no hardware has changed since then.

All my drivers are up-to-date, BIOS updates, software, patches, windows etc.

I have had lots of "theories" or "temp fixes" sent to me but in reality are not suitable.

When I play music (with any player) sometimes the sound crackles, to resolve the issue I have to pause then unpause the song and it stops for the duration of that song.

My Sound Card:

Sound issues with crackling and popping
A number of owners of X-Fi cards have come to experience what is known as a constant popping and crackling noise during use of the cards. Creative has attributed the case to be NVIDIA nForce motherboards, however many other users who do not use these motherboards continue to experience the sound issues. Creative has not provided a fix as of yet for this

It's a bit hard to suggest without going through everything to see what you might have tried already (although I did have a look at your second link and a very quick look at the third). So please excuse if you have already tried the following, or if they seem too obvious (more hardware than software suggestions, as you have perhaps been trying mostly software, by the look of it).

It kinda sounds like something's deteriorating, and when you give it a moment to rest, it resets itself.

You haven't mentioned anything about your speakers (or headphones). Are they OK? Have you tried others, or tried yours in another computer? Can you try a USB speaker (if you haven't got that already)? How are the connections/cables/jacks?

Do you have an onboard audio driver you can try (ie take out the sound card)? Can you borrow a sound card to try?

Maybe it's a poor connection, including solder joint, in there somewhere. Hard to track down - have to try swapping things.

Is your problem confined to one medium (CD/DVD, stored audio files, downloaded music), or does it happen with all types?

Does it happen when you're eating Rice Bubbles? -D) (It's late, OK?)

Any possibility of interference from nearby electronics or electrical appliances?

Is your power supply unit OK? (Don't know why these last two items would be fixed by pausing the song, but I'm running low on ideas - maybe I'll stop here and let someone else have a go...)

Welcome to MajorGeeks, tm920

Is Drive G bootable or for storage?

Do you have all important data backed up? You really should do this before continuing since we will need to rewrite your MBR to fix this and while most times this can be done without any problem, these infections can react badly and that could result in a PC not being bootable. You really don't have much choice though since these infections are too dangerous to your security to leave on a PC.

Also note if you have a Dell PC which uses a non-standard MBR ( or another manufacturer's who does similar to Dell) , fixing the mbr may prevent access the the Dell Restore Utility, which allows you to press a key on startup and revert your computer to a factory delivered state. There are a couple of known fixes for said condition, though the methods are somewhat advanced. If you are unwilling to take such a risk, you should not continue but you risk serious problems leaving this infection in place and thus your only other option would be to try using the Dell Restore Utility to return a factory ship state which will remove everything you additional you have put onto the PC.

Ok,Here is the issue with this sound card. First off it's a nice Diamond (great cards) Xtreme Sound 5.1. The problem I have with it is it's affected by certain videos. Youtube it plays fine.....until you go into Full Screen mode, then it's garbled...you can't make it out what anyone is saying during play back in F\S mode. Another problem I have is Encoding videos do the exact same thing!

Last night I downloaded a freeware program that was on my old box called "Panzera mp4 to avi converter 1.3" it's a great program. My Camera uses the Mp4 format and I am not too fond of quicktime just to run that format. The reason I am trying to convert them is to kill the file size and make "nolstalgia" DvD for the family. the Mp4 plays fine however,no sound problems in the original clip.

My video and sound cards are up to date, My video card is a Geforce 8400 GS. Running on a AMD Athlon 64 processor at 2.20 ghz with 1 gb of ddr. Anyone ever had this problem? I tried Divx and Xvid thinking it was a codec problem. boy was I wrong. any suggestions is welcomed.

Update:This isn't really an update but I found out something weird. My video playback with Wmv,Mpeg,Avi,Asf ETC. is always garbled. No matter if it's online or on the computer the playback audio is garbled. What could be causing this. I uninstalled,re-installed Diamond Xtreme soundcard drivers. I installed DirectX9.0c, I have Divx and Xvid codecs. My sound drivers are up to date. I unhooked the onboard sound and uninstalled sound max after buying the Diamond. A friend told me I should disable the onboard sound entirely but I can't find the option in the bios. My mother board is a "Asus A8x socket 939" board. Any helps please? I am desperate!

I've seen this happen with the games I play recently. For example, in games like Battlefield 1942 and Black and White 2, some places showed "straight lines" from objects. At the top of the 3d static object in question, the straight lines go from there to the sky. There seems to be no end to that unless I get really close to that object.

As for the sound problem, I'm hearing static occur at random occasions. Any way to fix these?

Hello, I have a strange problem with my sound settings that has just started since I reinstalled Windows.

Basically Im a dj & I use my pc to stream shows on the internet.
My decks are connected to my Vestax mixer which is connected to the line-in on my soundcard.
Connected to the line-out is my hifi.

When I do my shows I have jingles to play etc which I use Media player for. So while Im streaming (with shoutcast) I open a jingle in Mediaplayer & that goes out over the stream aswell as the audio coming from my decks. through line-in

Now since my reinstallation the problem Im having is I cant get the audio from Media Player to go out at the same time as my music from my decks.

Ive fiddled with the audio properties in Windows etc (which Ive never had to do before) and I cant get it working how it was before :
I dont understand whats chnaged since my reinstall.
Any ideas anyone?

If its any help I have an Realteck AC 97 onboard soundcard.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Answer:Sound Issues

First, remove and reload your sound drivers. Second; check your system resources and see what's running in the background and what is loaded at startup and remove any unneeded startup entries and any unused programs. Third; perform some general maintenance- clean your junk files (use CCleaner), defrag your hard drive (use Disk Keeper Lite or O&O or Auslogics or IOBit; all free), and maybe use CCleaner to scan for any registry issues and fix 'em. Fourth; run Dial-A-Fix (link: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4899.html). Fifth; if needed re-install your media player or choose a different one from the Multimedia section here at Major Geeks. Sixth; scan for and remove malware (viruses, spyware, etc). Visit the malware removal forum for more info.
Good luck, and let us know what happens!

Question: Sound Issues

Hello!

SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio - What Gateway says....

Intel Integrated Audio 82801BA(M) ICH2 - What my PC and Everest says.....

When I say "What Gateway says....." I'm meaning that the drivers they gave me match that audio device. You would think it would come up as the same thing, but I guess not. That just confuses the heck out of me.

The real problem is I have NO sound at all. Sometimes on restart the sound will start working again, but it will eventually cut out and stop working all together. When it doesn't work I hear static when I adjust the volume.

It isn't a new hardware problem, it has slowly been getting worse and worse. In fact, I would say it started doing this shortly after we got this damn thing. However, a quick restart would solve the problem, so I never thought much of it until recently.

Yes, I have updated my motherboards drivers. Yes, I have downloaded the supposed "new drivers" for both of the devices I listed up there. Installed both of them (of course I did them at seperate times, I have gone through the hoops with both sets of drivers). It should be noted that when I try to install the new SoundMAX drivers (filename: WDM3045d_SM3) I get an error at the end saying "Drivers not found. Please restart windows and restart this setup."

I have messed with all the options and settings for my sound device. I have looked up troubleshooting on Gateway, Intel, SoundMAX, and Microsoft websites.

Question: 5.1 Sound issues

OS: XP
Sound Card: Onboard card supplied with Asus P5N32-E SLI
Drivers: 5.10.0001.4580 (english)

Problem: I bought a set of 5.1 speakers on wednesday to upgrade from my previous 2.1 set. I set up the speakers and played a couple of 5.1 music tracks i found from googling around to check i was getting sound from all my speakers, i am.

However when running the speaker test in Valve's Source engine i'm getting all the sounds coming from all the speakers if at varying volumes. Even when i mute all the speakers apart from say back left i can hear "front left, centre, front right..." and so on all coming from my rear left speaker.

EDIT: In VLC i get the full surround effect sounds only coming from their correct speakers when running a Dolby Digital Speaker test video thing, however in MPC it only uses's front left, front right and centre.

Any ideas how to solve this short of buying a better sound card?

Thankyou in advance for any advice

Good evening all. It seems these few times I have had problems I end up coming here when I can't figure out the problem myself; but that is always because of the great help I've had from the TSF force.

I have an Advent 5480DVD Laptop that has had its share of issues, but nothing ever serious, just your usual growing pains. Never has the sound been an issue though. But earlier today I was once again on MSN Messenger 7.0 talking to someone, I had installed Messenger Plus! 3 and was just going through the motions of it, yet I don't believe that to be the cause as the sound was fine even after installing it.

The person I was talking to wanted to start up an audio conversation and which prompted a Setup of the process. I don't have a microphone and, in my haste, just ran through the process and didn't pay much attention, my bad I know, the result though has left me with an Echo effect in anything I do.

That's right, it isn't just locked into Messenger, I closed down 7.0 to see if that would help, the echo was still around, I even uninstalled both MSN 7.0 and Messenger Plus! 3 just to be sure and the echo was still effecting regular Windows sounds and Winamp.

Restarting the computer hasn't helped either, muting the 'microphone'; as I don't really have one to my knowledge and I don't believe the laptop has a hidden microphone, hasn't helped either. I'm really confused as to what I can do in order to stop this echo.

The only thing I can imagine has happened is that in ... Read more

Question: Sound issues.

I am not getting any sound on my computer at all. When I clicked the speaker on the toolbar and ran the troubleshooter it told me I needed to update my drivers. But when I go through the Device Manager it tells me I have no Sound Card installed. I'm fairly sure my soundcard is on the motherboard. But I've even reseated the video card and the only other card that can be reseated. I've downloaded the Realtek High Definition sound Device driver and rebooted at least 3 times and nothing has worked.
Also, out of paranoia I ran Spybot to see if there is a virus causing the troubles and it found nothing.

So
It started earlier this week. I got home to find my computer running and the fans going full tilt. I shut it down (via the power button, had no choice) and booted it back up. Everything seemed to work fine except the sound.

the problem:
Whenever I try to adjust sound in control panel, it turns itself back down! Also, the + vol key acts like a mute button.

What ive tried:
Ive tried system restore, Ive tried reinstalling some drivers (i have an old compaq r3230us with soundblaster integrated audio). I did a full scan for viruses in safe mode that turned up nothing.

background:
I tried using chkdsk in command prompt. My results are pictured below. When i use /f to force it on the next reboot, it cancels itself, wtf!

possibly has nothing to do with it:
I believe while I was gone that day (before I found it frozen) a mac spoofing program I was using (14 day trial) might have ended. Either way, I uninstalled it and the spoofed mac adress stayed also wtf!!
I cleaned it out of the registry and reinstalled it, so I now have the right mac, but still no sound

thanks for any help ahead of time

For months I was able to transfer my Astro A50's from my Xbox to my computer and just go into my playback and recording devices and set as default and I would be good to go...until today. I was unable to set either as default, I was able to test them and get sound through the headset but not able to set either the headphone as default or the headset as default. I started by uninstalling the drivers and anything else I could find related to the headset and then restarted. I then plugged them back in when my computer reloaded with no success. I could still see them come up but was unable to set as default. I then decided to delete/uninstall everything associated with the Realtek HD audio and downloaded the latest version from the website. I installed everything and restarted and now I can't even get my speakers to work and those are connected through an analog output while the A50's are a optical and usb connection. Any help getting me in the right direction is greatly appreciated!

Question: Sound issues

i posted this in the gaming forum because it was initially a problem with ventrilo, after i made the post i found out i am having the same problem with internet applications

Last night everything was working fine, but my sound card prompted me for a driver update, naturally i followed through and let it fully update overnight. When i booted back up today i logged onto ventrilo and every sound coming out of vent, including the .wav files that play when you log on and off and change servers, have a staticy robotlike sound to them. I assumed it was just ventrilo because winamp is playing music perfectly through my speakers without any problems at all.

SO i posted in the gaming forum, but then i opened up firefox and went to watch a few flash videos and they were doing the same thing, curious i tried a few other things, myspace music profile player is doing the same, and a lot of other things too so im assuming its something to do with my sound card drivers...

i plugged my headset in with ventrilo and after changing my default input and output settings it worked just perfectly, but i dont want to have to put in my headset every time i want to watch a video or something :\

if anyone has any suggestions please help, this is ticking me off, or if anything a way to uninstall the drivers because everything was working fine before i updated drivers

Answer:Sound issues

i have uninstalled my drivers and reinstalled them and only updated the drivers that i HAD to, but im still having the same problem

it is really starting to bug me :\ games and music play just fine, but internet applications like youtube and flash and certain programs like Ventrilo and Audacity dont work

please i could really use some help here

I have an SB Live! sound card. I have no sound coming from my computer. I've tryed everything I can think of, updated drivers, trying another soundcard, another pci slot.

When I go into my device manager, it recognizes all the sound drivers. I've started up in safemode, and deleted all the drivers, and started over again. I've also tryed getting sound from my onboard sound card, and still no luck

If anyone has anything I can try, it would by much appreciated.

Question: Sound Issues

Hi, I was recently bought a computer (HP Pavilion w5151.uk) which is an excellent machine, it came with no O.S so i have installed XP home edition and put all the relevent drivers on the system, however i cannot seem to get any audio, after installing the realtek HD driver for it, it seemed to have sound for a fraction of a second, but i can now no longer get even that!

i have now exhausted my know how when it comes to it all, and would like to know if anyone on here can help me?

if you need more information about what i have in my system, let me know as i am not sure what to really provide. I have read that updating to sp3 will most likely fix this, however according to hp's website, there is a serious flaw with doing so which i would rather avoid!

I have tried to install Microsofts UAA driver but that wont even finish so thats a bust. I have asked elsewhere but only got seriously non helpfull replys.

The motherboard that comes with this computer seems to be strange in that it has the same number as a few others which have different components, so i cant seem to get a propper chipset driver or any other drivers that relate specificaly to this board. the board is an Asus PTGD-LA (puffer 2) or at least thats what Everest tells me. however asus do not have anything on thier site for it and HP have only basic drivers for sound, which is NOT the HD sound at all, just the generic ac97, which i installed at first thinking it was the right drivers before poking a l... On older HP models the microsoft uaa driver needed installing first before any sound drivers so try uninstalling the sound drivers reboot the pc then install microsoft uaa driver and re-install the sound driver. On the site link below under original drivers there is the ati chipset driver which should be installed first before any other drivers.http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar...ct=502347#N1992

Question: Sound Issues

I have my 5.1 sound system plugged into the front audio jack on my computer. but everytime I open up VLC media player I have to change the audio from 5.1 to stereo. or else I don't hear the voices only the backround music. Is there anyway to change it so that VLC media player to default to opening with stereo sound.

Answer:Sound Issues

Try changing the codec to A52 in settings. I'm not familiar with VLC's settings in Windows, but this is what it looks like in OS X:

Hopefully it's the same, and hopefully the A52 codec would keep it set to your 5 channels (I think A52 can do up to 6 channels, not sure).

Question: sound issues

Hello everybody !

Decided to create this topic in order to discuss sound issues related to Windows 7. In my case, I decided to install W7 in my Sony Vaio VGN-S360, despite all warnings related to Vaio only supporting its original XP Home Edition. Everything is running smooth and the OS works fine and fast. I have already downloaded and installed most drivers from Sony support webpage. However, there is one thing that won't work the way it should. I have my Fn key working fine for brightness control and other stuff. But as for sound, it won't control the overall sound. You see the scale going up and down, but that doesn't affect the master volume (soundmax). Does anybody have any idea how to turn the Fn key into a master sound control again ? Thanks !

Answer:sound issues

You'll have to update at least 2 pieces of hardware to do this (and hope that they work together).
Update the keyboard driver that runs the Fn keys - but get it from the hardware manufacturer's website - NOT the Sony website.
Do the same thing with the sound card driver.

Run the installers in Compatibility mode for Vista and Run as administrator.

So, I recently rolled back to XP, from Vista. And I could get all the drivers I needed installed again. (Video, Printer, Keyboard, Mouse). But, whatever I try to do, or no matter how many different drivers I install, the sound will not work! I have checked the back of the computer, referred to the manual, and have done countless Google searches.

Can anybody help? I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks

Answer:I am having sound issues!

What's the brand name and model name and complete model number of that computer?

If perchance it's a HP/Compaq brand, advise what the product number(P/N) on it is.

If perchance it's a Dell brand, advise what the 7-character "service tag" number on it is.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Never ever upgrade or downgrade to a different Windows version without first confirming the identity of the computer's devices and confirming that device drivers exist for that Windows version.

If you go into the Device Manager, it's my guess there's one or more entries with a yellow ? next to it - which indicates the driver hasn't been installed.

Question: Sound Issues

Hi everyone!

I have recently started having some sound problems with my computer. One day when I turned my computer on most of the programs that use sound (including windows) couldn't recognize my sound card. Oddly enough winamp was still able to detect it but nothing else could. I thought it may be a soundcard issue so I bought a new one but it has the same problems. In the Sound and Audio Devices section it has "no audio device" under the volume tab and under the audio tab the only devices that are listed for playback are modem #0 line playback and modem #1 line playback. However the soundcard is recognized under the hardware tab. The only program that regularly recognizes it is winamp, however every now and then it doesn't but all that requires is a restart of the program.

Also I have a PODxt (which is a guitar recording interface) that is connected via USB. When these issues began the recording programs stopped recognizing it as well. Further every time I turned off the pod while it was connected my computer would restart.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Question: Sound Issues

Here is the issue:Installed new graphic card lost audio with a twist I can plug my headphones in and I have audio but no audio through speakers. The details:I had an ATI Radeon HD 3400 Series video card things went crazy with it so I installed a Galaxy GeForce 9600 GT.I run my computer through my HDTV on the tv there is an audio jack (the green one) which I run into the back of the computer into the audio jack (green one) on the mother board which is a Asus KV8-KM.I also have a sound card in a PCI slot a Realtek HD card but I do not use it bc I don't have the proper hook ups for it but it does show up as enabled and working properly in device manager.Device manger has no yellow showing everything seems to be running fine so it thanks.I also downoloaded driver pro software to update all drivers which I have done.My question is what are the troubleshooting steps I should take to get things to work? Or why can I have audio when I plug headphones in but not sound through my speakers?Thank you for the help in advance!

Answer:Sound Issues

Check your Realtek software (should be a blue icon like a crab in your taskbar by the clock, or even a red speaker icon in some cases) sometimes the default jack assignment settings are incorrect or re-assigned (i dont have a realtek here at work so unfortunatley cannot walk you through the settings). Also the ATI HD3400 most likely has an onboard sound card if its a HDMI version, that could have interfered with your setup. Open your control panel/Sounds and Audio Devices, click the Audio tab at the top and ensure the correct device that you are pluging your TV into is the Default Device in the Sound Playback section at the top.

Hope this helps

Question: Sound issues

Well guys here i am again...if it wasn't for bad luck i'd have no luck at all.Heres my issue....I'm a reg World of Warcraft player and use Team Speak (client version) to comunicate with other players in game.  Tonight while i was playing my sound started to get all scratchy and then i wasn't able to be heard on Team Speak.  Thought maybe it was WOW causing the problem so i shut the game down and periodically still heard the scratchy noises.  Tryed logging out of TS, and back in...same issues...was able to hear ppl but was unable to be heard.  Tryed uninstalling and reinstalling Team speak to no avail.  When ever i would push to talk other people said all they heard was static and stuff.  Looked everywhere on Team Speak forums and found no answers.  Checked all of my sound and microphone settings in windows and everything seems fine.  But...since my issue i can no longer hear myself when i talk into the microphone and am unable to play with my microphone volume settings.  Also checked my Realtek HD audio manager with same problem, cant adjust micrphone settings.  Tryed rolling back my sound driver to no avail.  Is there something in overlooking?  Is there anyone out there that has any suggetions to help solve this problem?  Heres my system info..... Motherboard is an Asus P5QComputer:      Operating System                   ... Answer:Sound issues

My first suggestion would be to use a system restore point created before you had this problem.  If its not switched on then try going to control panel - system - hardware tab -device manager.  Expand the sound, video and game controller's section and see if it shows any faults (yellow triangle with an exclamation mark), if there is, double click it and click the troubleshoot button and follow the instruction.Hope this helps.

Hello

I have an almost new Lenovo Thinkpad E530 laptop, that came with Win 8 64 bit, seldom used because i hated the new OS , upgrading to Win 8.1  did not improve things but i can live with it  if i can have a decent sound & can broadcast/play music online..
For this i need  stereo mixer , today downloaded and installed the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver from Lenovo  but i  can  not access it.
When i go to the program folder & right click on it, i get the "uninstall" option , thats it
I also have Realtek Ethernet Controller Driver & Realtek PCIE Card Reader installed..  as well as the Conextant HD audio the laptop came with..
There might be a conflict or i need to uninstall/disable the Conexant Audio.. but i'm not sure .
I would appreciate some help on how to solve this issue !

Thanks in advance !

Answer:Win 8.1 sound issues

That is because it installs as a Service.  There should be a Control Property shortcut titled "Realtek HD Audio Manager".  If not, go to http://www.realtek.com.tw/DOWNLOADS/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false and download the Realtek driver for Windows 8.1.  I always use US2 for the server nearest to me, since it is the fastest for where I am at.

Question: Sound Issues

Hello,

For the past few weeks I have been having issues with my sound. I usually use a headset plugged into a USB port. Suddenly the sound would freeze and I would only hear a "Uh Uh" sound play. This would also essentially slow the video I was watching down too. If I unplugged and replugged the headset back in it would fix the issue.

Then it began happening more frequently and on occasion YouTube videos would have no sound whatsoever (even though other sounds would work). Eventually I just removed the headset and began using my monitors built-in speakers. However, they too began to crackles and begin to stutter with the sound.

I used to be of the opinion my headset was the issue, now I'm thinking it might be my sound card. However, dxdiag notes no problems and device manager notes all my sound drivers are working normally. Thoughts?

Question: Sound issues

The computer I have had on board sound but it began to act up. It started to not work and occasionally come back through. Then Completely stopped. I thought maybe the speakers. So I bought new speakers. The sound worked for another short period like a day and then stopped working. I checked the speakers on another PC and they still worked. But they do not work on this one.

I figured it was a sound card issue so I added a Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Loaded everything properly through its CD and it still doesnt work.

I thought maybe a conflict with the onboard sound so I went to BIOS and disabled the onboard card. Still nothing.

When I go to the control panel and sounds to look at this device. It says working properly. It says it is there. I the speakers pop on when I start the computer.

I have power to the speakers. They are plugged into the right jack on the pc. They have the small pop on start up you can hear when the pc turns on. The sound control panel is not on mute.

Under Device volume in the control panel it does say device volume is low all the way to the left but this is all shadded to where I can not change that. Also says device is enabled.

I am at a loss what do I do? Please help if you know.

Thanks, Brekkon

Question: Win 7 sound issues

I seem to be having quite a bit of issues with sound in certain games I have installed on Window 7. It's only two, but they share the same problem. They both play music but they don't play other sound effects, such as voices or gun fire, or really anything else other then music. The games in question are X3: Terran Conflict and Supreme Commander Forged Alliance. I have other games but those are the only two that have issues.

In addition to that, and I don't know if it's related, I have also had issues with playing some AVI movies using the WIndows Media Player installed with Windows 7. It's exactly the same problem as with the games, I have music, but no voices. However, when I play the same AVI with Classic Windows Media Player, they play fine.

I'm hoping some of you may know what is causing these problems and how to solve them. I have had no luck in finding solution to tech support forums for either of the games mentioned. I've reinstalled the games multiple times and that did not fix the issue.

Answer:Win 7 sound issues

Okay first the games are not even fully compatible with Windows 7. It is not listed on their site. So you will have to contact the game developers and see if they have a update or patch to get it working properly.

The .avi is simple. Get a codec pack. KLite is by far the most popular one.

Question: sound issues

The audio driver for HP in my laptop and my desktop's do not work. I have
tried all of the win 7 drivers. I thought that the compatibility software
that you asked us to install; once it said is computable  with 7 will work in
most well known computers but I see many people having the same issue with
the sound drivers. Win 7 using ATI or Altec Lansing and Creative Lab on board
internal settings for the sound driver after you load win 7. How do you solve
this problem and get my sound back this is very inconvenient to say the
least?

Answer:sound issues

Hi, I'd like to inform you that hardware drivers are provided by hardware manufacturer including those drivers shipped with Windows 7 and device drivers from Windows Update. As a result, to resolve this kind of driver issue, you can contact with HP and see if they have compatible driver for Windows 7 in their support site:

Question: Sound Issues

I have a Thinkpad Edge 525 running Windows 7 pro. Any time I plug in a device that uses sound it mutes (puts an x over the speaker in the tray) all sound. I plugged in an HDMI which is supposed to project the sound out of the TV speakers, At first I thought it was the HDMI but when I plug headphone in it does the same thing. When I click on the speaker to try to unmute it, it starts the troubleshooter detection, but that gets nowhere, it comes back saying everythin is fixed but its not. Please help as I have a bunch of movies for my daughter on here!!!!

Answer:Sound Issues

While the HDMI cable is hooked up to the TV, right click the volume icon in the tray on the bottom right, select playback devices. Do you see the TV listed? Is anything greyed out? Try to set the HDMI device as default in Playback Devices.

Question: Sound Issues

Brand new computer and sound had been working great for about a week, then when i update the drivers on my video card, the left side sound gives me a kind of scratching, static sound, i know its not the speaker because i switched it and got it on the right one. I've tried total uninstalling all the ati/audio drivers and reinstalling one by one, but after installing audio i get the dreaded sound. hopefully its just some configuration issues, i dont want to either buy a sound card and/or reinstall windows (grr)

oh yeah i also reset the bios (took out battery and put it back in) its not that

I just started having this same kind of problem. When I play music there is lots of static, like you would get on a radio when the speakers are dying.. I switched speakers from a different computer and I still have the same problem. Though they work perfectly on the other computer.

My sound is Realtek AC'97.

Any suggestions?

Thank You

Question: Sound Issues

I record video game vids for youtube and I've been using steromix to record because it lets me pick up my voice as well as ingame sound. Problem is i've been trying to do a co-commentary with my friend but when ever I record with steromix he gets an echo, considering it seems I'm giving out steromix as well, is there any way around this? or a way to fix it? Also on a side note. I can't use a usb headset considering it only record my mic and not ingame sound(and doesn't let me use steromix to record) is there anyway I can record more than -just- my mic with a usb headset? lastly, it seems when I record that my game audio is -way- louder than my recorded voice, I have no idea how to fix it.

Which sound card are you using? Do you have the latest drivers installed? I had the same problem with my Realtek HD sound card.

Hi, i'm having some sound problems with my dell demension 4600. Last night, all was well with my PC, i did nothing out of the ordinary and when I was done, i turned off the monitor and let it fall asleep by itself. This morning, NO sound was working from anything. No iTunes, Windows Media, Quicktime, anything from the internet. When i open these programs, no playback occurs. When I try to access my Finale Music Notation Software, it says my VST Engines failed to run. I think VST is exclusive to Finale though.I'm no genius with computers, and I really need some guidance on how to correct this issue.

I have been having major trouble with my laptop and I was hoping yall could help me cure this issue once and for all. I have a toshiba satellite laptop and for going on 2 to 3 months now I have no sound whatsoever. I cant even run the sound to a bluetooth speaker or headphones they say they are paired but still no sound just a red x next to the volume button on my home screen remains. I have tried the built in troubleshooting method and all that comes up is audio services not responding in the problems found sectiom and not fixed next to it with no explaination why or how it can be fixed. I have googled what seems like every possible solution in terms of downloading, reinstalling and uninstalling drivers and still no luck. I have even completely reset my computer a handful of times but the problem still remains. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:No sound issues HELP!!!!

Audio port on laptop could be damaged internally. Cheapest fix would be to get a USB Audio adapter for around $15. I had to do this for other computers where the audio jack or audio chip was blown on board and wanted to fix the sound issue. You have done everything from drivers to a full rebuild and no sound = hardware issue .... so I'd go with a USB Audio adapter for around $15.This one here is $16.99 with free shipping if you live in the USA. This is the same one that I bought, but when I bought mine I am thinking the price was $14.99 and it went up a few dollars: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829128004&cm_re=usb_audio-_-29-128-004-_-ProductAlso on all computers that i used this USB Audio adapter on, Windows installed the drivers automatic and so it was working in less than 15 seconds.

Question: Sound Issues

Hi, I'm suddenly having a spot of trouble...
For no obvious(to me at least) reason, my sound does not work for programs like games, and while surfing the web(like homestar or something is mute). However, mediaplayers, dxdiag, and the "adjustment beep" all produce sound. Also, the volume control is no longer in my taskbar, and the buttons on my laptop don't seem to do anything(when I open the sound sutff through controlpanel, pushing buttons on the computer does nothing, but ones on the screen do). I tried a system restore to no avail. The only recent things I've done are install a few codecs, xdiv and the one for mkv, and some innocuous google desktop/firefox plugins.
Ideas?

Question: Sound Issues

My sound isn't working for some reason. First I thougt it was my headphones (plugged directly into the sound card) so I took them out and swtiched them for some old speakers I never use. Those didn't work either. The funny thing is, that I can't get any sound, but the card must be at least partially functional because the microphone still records.

Answer:Sound Issues

It sounds more like a sound mixer level settings or sound mixer driver involved here. A
little more information on the card (brand, model) would help here.

Question: Sound issues

I have recently installed a new graphics card which has a HDMI, VGA and a DVI adapter. I have connected my monitor with a vga cable and my TV with a HDMI cable. However when I first installed the graphics card I could use both my monitor and my tv to view my pc desktop but I could only get sound through my monitor via the sound cable. What I done then was to try to swap the sound driver from the Realtek that is on my mobo to the hi def audio device that is on my graphics card. I couldn't swap them over so I could use the sound through the hdmi cable so i disabled the realtek sound in the manage audio devices in the sound part of the control panel. Now though I can't find the realtek sound plugin so I can get sound through my monitor when I want to use my monitor not my tv. Does anyone know how to get the realtek sound working again your help would be a great help.

Question: Sound issues

Alright I was wondering if anyone here might have an idea about what is going on with my computer. My sound has been distorted when I play music. It sounds like the bass is muffled, (not playing clearly). I am using a Audigy Sound Blaster 2 card. I tried going to Creative labs forums but that was pointless. I have uninstalled it numerous times, moved pci slots, updated drivers, and adjusted settings in the program. After all that I decided to disable and install my on board sound card. My mobo is an A8N Sli Deluxe board. I did that but it still sounds distorted. I have no idea what it could be. Does anyone have any ideas if there is something wrong with my motherboard or what? I used to have the card installed on another computer and it sounded fine, it was installed on this one for awhile and worked one day until one day I noticed it sounding different.
Thanks,
Jeremy

Answer:Sound issues

What kind of speakers do you have? It is possible that the problem is there, or with the connections to the speakers or subwoofer. I think I understood from the post that the sound is bad with both the audigy and the onboard sound? If so, that would tend to eliminate the sound card. It could be a mobo going bad, as you say, but I would also check for outside interference from another electrical device (laser printer, monitor, etc)

Question: Sound Issues

First off, I'm certain that its not because I muted the volume or because the audio driver is installed improperly.

Pretty every program that tries to play any music or sound does not work EXCEPT Realtek HD Audio Manager. I tried almost every single one of the programs on my computer and none works except when testing the 7.1 surround sound system.

Things I did before this happened.

Tried watching a video on gizmodo about Abraham Lincoln on the clouds but that video never loaded.
Tried playing League of Legends but for some reason it had the "firewall problem" which didn't happen previously. I played earlier during the day.
My computer just went slow as hell for no reason.
I ran the spybot search and destroy/malware byte's anti malware to see if its some stupid malware/spyware thats make it slow for some reason. They asked me to update so I did.
Opened up Task Manager and realized its probably that "msfeedssync.exe" that was making my computer slow since it took up 1.4 gb of memory.
End Process every 5 minutes to try to stop it from coming back. Failed.
Turned off the options in Feed/Slice under Internet Options then Restarted.
Computer is running back at full speed except now there is no sound in every program except the ones that test the surround system.

Any ideas how to fix this? All help are appreciated.

Answer:Sound Issues

Things I did after this happened

Control Panel>Sound>Disable/Enabled the drivers.
Restarted many times.
System Restored many times but all had "error" and was not completed (failed).
Run>services.msc or something>Windows Audio>Set to automatic and start.
Tried updating the driver through Control Panel>Sound>Playback>Realtek HD Audio

Question: Sound Issues

Hi. I've been getting various sound issues recently. I would turn on the laptop but there would be no sound. Found a temporary fix on the Internet which was to disable and enable the sound driver in the device manager. I used to get by just fine using this fix until about a couple of days ago Windows requested to restart due to a hardware change. I restarted the system and upon loading the desktop Windows requested to install the IDT driver. I let it install and everything seemed fine until another restart when I noticed the sound quality had somewat degraded and the volume was not as loud as it used to be. Checked in the system tray and the beats audio control panel icon was gone. Searched for it on the laptop and found a file saying beats audio panel but whenever I try to launch it, it comes up with an error saying cannot find .startup file. I've tried system restores and other fixes but to no avail. Plus I can't seem to find the sound drivers on the hp website. Please help ASAP. Thanks.

Answer:Sound Issues

UPDATE: I managed to fix the beats audio control panel issue somehow by looking through the old driver files on the laptop. Found an old sound driver. Installed it ad restarted the laptop and the audio control panel is back and the sound is improved as well. However one issue still persists. When I restarted the laptop the Windows log on sound played perfectly on the log on screen but as soon as I logged into the laptop and the desktop loaded I clicked on the windows sound panel icon to check the sound which I found out was not working. Went to the device manager, disabled and enabled the audio codec thing and the sound's back but it was back after a restart. This I think is the core issue and a permanent solution will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Question: Sound issues

My Windows? 7 Professional, 64bit, English had been playing sounds from everything perfectly last night. When I went to shut down it started installing security updates. I left it to its work and went to bed. . When I turned it on my computer this morning, It behaved normal, except that now applications sounds don't seem to work. The system sounds work fine (start up sounds and speaker tests), but if I try and watch something on youtube.com or play a game, those sounds are not working.

I thought it might be because of the security updates from last night, so I did a system restore taking it back to before those updates were installed. When it came back up, it still had the same issue.

* Rebooted the computer multiple times
* I checked in Device Manager under Sounds and the driver is reported as being the newest driver
* It doesn't appear to be muted

I'm not sure where else to check.

Not sure what to do from here. The sound is from an Integrated 5.1 Channel Audio

Answer:Sound issues

youtube and many games use flash or shockwave, so I would suspect that is where the problem is, not with your sound card since other sounds work OK.

Question: Issues with sound

Alrighty.

Recently, i've run across a strange problem/problems.
After busting my *** to get one of my older games (beyond good and evil) to run on my AMD Dual-Core, Windows has lost it's ability to recognise any of my sound devices.
I have the onboard realtek POS that i haven't used fo yonks, a set of USB headphones that have never faltered and a Lexicon Lambda recoding interface.
None of these are recognised by the sound dialogue box, yet certain applications still have sound, such as Foobar2000 and the game in question.

DXDIAG also shows the devices working. I am absolutely stumped as why this is happening.

Answer:Sound Issues

Make and exact model of computer.
You probably are using a sound chip on the motherboard instead of an add-in card. In this case, you need to install motherboard drivers. To know what motherboard is in the computer, we need the brand and exact model.

Question: sound issues

Okay here's the deal, I've been having sound issues lately.. specifically.. static and laggyness/choppyness when scrolling down very slowly on web pages, even switching between web and images on the google search site. I just formatted my computer today and it seemed to solve the problem... but a while later it came back.. I also tried pulling my graphics card ( nvidia 8600gts ) out and using my integrated gfx card.. and i think it solved the problem.. but once i put the card back in the issues came back.. I'm not entirely sure that the problem lies with my graphics card.. because the only issues i'm getting is with my sound.. soo.. unless anyone wants to prove otherwise.. that's where I'm at.

The second place where this happens.. is when playing COD4.. I get into a server with about 11 - 30 fps... and when i pick a team and get into the first person view.. it stays at 30 and even drops below that when i start moving around and shooting etc... what i get in game is choppy video and choppy sound..

My system specs are:

vista home premium 32 bit
1.8ghz core 2 duo
2048mb ram
nvidia 8600gts

DXdiag is included

i have a sound recoroding of when i scroll down a page and the sound getting all weird.. but this forum doesn't allow WMA files to uploaded i guess unless oundone knows how to do it, i think it might help

I have a dell XPS running windows XP with a 3.0 ghz processor, ATI 9800 pro video card and a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 sound card.

My problem is that I am hardly getting any volume out of my speakers even with the Volume fully up in both windows and on the speaker controls. This problem developed while playing a game and is now system wide. I thought it might just be the speakers so I hooked up some old ones, however the problem remained. I than thought it might be the soundcard drivers so I reloaded the original ones to no avail. If it helps, the game I was playing was Vampire the masquerade Bloodlines, and I had just installed directx 9.0c I also have the dell mulitimedia keyboard which I sometimes use to lower or raise the volume in game, but it seems to be working fine. Question: Sound Issues

Hi guys,

I've had a few problems with my sound card for quite some time on games now.

I have a range of issues that I can't seem to fix.

With sound acceleration on, all my game sounds are high pitched and sound silly. So I turn acceleration off and my sounds start to stutter in places. The other effect is sound 'warping' where the sound sounds similar to the effect if you put a shell to your ear and you can hear the swooshing. it sounds silly but I know what I mean.

Does anyone know the answer? i'm tearing my hair out here.

Thanks.

Anyway, after I uninstalled the various applications that I tried recording with, I restarted my PC and from then on I have a red "X" sign on my sound tray icon. When I hover over it it says "No Audio Output Device is installed".

So I opened my Device Manager, and suddenly a list of drivers under sound appear with a yellow exclamation point (see attached photo).

Things I tried:

1) Reinstalling the drivers, but when I do it says "Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date". I also tried reinstalling them manually from my driver CD successfully, but that didn't solve the problem.
When I double-click these items in the Device Manager, the device status says:

"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

2) System Restore, but because all of the driver reinstallations I did, I didn't have a far enough restore point...

3) sfc /scannow

4) Restarting with "Last working configuration"

I searched many forums and tried some other fixes, but nothing worked.. I would really appreciate any help, I really don't wa... Read more

Answer:Help with sound issues

I don't know if I'm simply missing it, but instead of using Windows Driver update, which only really works on slightly older hardware that's in the database, did you go to your motherboard or sound card's (depending on if it's on board or not) manufacturer's website and snag the manual install of the driver?

This looks like a simple driver issue. If you're having trouble, let me know if:
Your sound card is add-on, and if so, what model?
Your ports are on-board, and if so, what is the model of your motherboard?

Thanks!

Question: Sound Issues

Ok, so I bought my computer used and refurbished, but it is less than 3 yrs old. Now the monitor and speakers are a little older. Aureal Vortex 8830 to anyone who knows what that is....cause I sure don't.....lol. I think that is my driver. (found it in Device Manager, advanced)Moderator Edit: Moved topic to more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

Answer:Sound Issues

What speakers you use make no difference.

Go to the device manager and see if there are any yellow or red warning icons in any of the categories.

Update the drivers in any that show such warnings.

Do you see a speaker icon in your notification area near the clock?

What exactly do you see in the "Sound Video and Game Controllers" category and do you have an onboard sound adapter or separate sound card?

Its an onboard sound chip running on SiS7012. Once the sound is running ie music and prolonged sound FX, its great. Its only short and sweet sounds, or when a sound finishes taht I have a problem. It almost clicks at the end. Its a C-Media codec sound system. Ive upgraded to latest drivers. No luck, Im wondering if a small conflict or close IRQ's can cause this? Just wondering.. any suggestions?

Question: Sound Issues

Hi, Hopefully someone can help? I have no sound from my HP Envy laptop. I have upgraded it from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and it has been running fine without incident but the sound has now gone. I have tried reloading/enabling drivers etc but no luck. I have tried a factory reset but again no luck and i don't have the option to return to 8.1. Does this mean it is a hardware issue and if so how easy or expensive should this be to fix? Thanks.
