can't use memory's slots #1 and #2

Question: can't use memory's slots #1 and #2

When I began to upgrade a PC decided to add 128M memory to the 64M exixting, performing 192M. When I started computer, only 64M was read. Next I exchanged 64M with 128M, I mean, the former gone to the #2 slot, the later to the #1. Now the reading was 128MAffraid of some kind of lack of compatibility, I changed the 64M memory for a 128M one, to acchieve a grand total of 256MReading: only 128M!! :-/It seems to me that only the slot #1 is working, or is seen by the mother boardI have read something about memories X BIOS, but I do not know exactly how to use this.I would like of some kind help, pleasePC uses a M748MRT M.Board, pentium II 450M, FSB 66/100, up to 3x DIMM memory, maximum of 768MThank you in advance

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: can't use memory's slots #1 and #2

There is a difference between low density (older chips) and high density (those that are being made today) chips. Sometime the HD chips don't work at all, or they cause an incompatibility with what is already in there. Also, the PC Chips board is always suspect, and may just need to be replaced. So let us know the history of the board AND the RAM and how you know it is compatible.

I'm puzzled by certain results from Memtest68+ V5.01 (previous version 4.0 gives similar results).I am helping a small non-profit consolidate older machines into a few good ones to upgrade from WinXp to Win7. In doing so I am putting additional memory into the machines we will upgrade. Each of the machines has four memory slots. I am finding that adding memory in the last two slots shows a much slower memory speed according to memtest86+  ???than when the first two slots are the only ones populated. Here are some results from memtest86+ testing on an e-Machines T6528 with AMD Athlon 64 3500+ processor. Is this result real and if so is it expected. I would expect memory speed to be uniform so long as the components are the same across the board. What surprised me the most is when I had 4 1GB identical memories installed and saw the... Read more

Answer:Adding Memory to slots 2 & 3 of four slots slows down memory speed

So let me start again First post here. I'm a programmer who doesn't meddle with pc parts. Well now has come the time!

I used the tool that Crucial provide on their website, which claims that my pc contains 2 pc133 slots and 1 pc100 slot (sdram).

It says I have max. capacity of 512mb. Will 2 256 pc133 sticks be ok? Or will performance default to pc100?

Also, what're the types of ram and will any other work with my pc? TIA.

Question: memory slots

My motherboard has 3 slots for memory sticks. It will hold up to 512 MB between the three. Does it matter if i only use 1 512 stick? Or 2 256 sticks? or is it better to use all three?

Answer:memory slots

If the motherboard will only operate with a grand total of 512 ...then I doubt that you will see much difference with either option ...

When using Dual channel memory on a motherboard with 2 slots does
slot 1 become 1 & 3 while slot 2 becomes 2 & 4?

My friend in 2011 bought a new desktop by my recommendation and her card.
Acer Aspire AX3950-UR30P - i3 CPU - 4GB PC3 10700 RAM - Windows 7 64-bit
She called me about a link for her to order memory.
I went to my folder of purchased products webpages to look up specs, it said 4 slots total with 2 slots available
Went to Crucial to see if they might recommend 800MHz instead of 667MHz?
Both said it has 4 slots.
I downloaded & ran CPU-Z on her computer thru Logmein it said, slots 1 & 3 each have 2GB while 2 & 4 are empty
She ordered 4GB (2x2GB)
It arrived, she brought her computer over and guess what
Only 2 slots & 1 is empty.

Is this wrong or is my definition of dual channel memory wrong?

Answer:Memory - when 2 slots become 4

my question is why does my 'Time'computer have only 3 memory slots, 2 of which have memory cards in(DDR). I thought that memory cards had to be fitted in 'pairs, as it was my intention just to add on with another 'pair'of cards, but when opening my machine there is just one slot left. Have 'Time Computers' forgot to put that extra slot into my 2yr old Athlon 2600+, Xp2 machine. Or! can I just put one card in that last slot, to up my memory spec. According to Crucial website, my memory is 184-pin DIMM banking 3(3 banks of 1) does that sound right!! You will of course notice my complete lack of computer knowledge,so expert advice is welcomed from you all with thanks.

Answer:Why 3 memory slots?

from my experience u dont need to add them as pairs,in fact ov never heard of that. just make sure the mother board can cope with the amount of memory u add

Friend of mine brought me his old gaming rig last night running a Athlon 64 x2 4200+ socket 939 on normally 2GB RAM with Vista, because the high end at the time of release ( A8N-SLI Premium ASUS ) motherboard on boot yells over the speaker port about a memory failure. With a single 1GB stick in slot 0 its happy running single-channel. Tested both sticks with memtest86 in slot 0 and they are happy. Placing both sticks together in slots 0 and 1 gives 2GB RAM single-channel and memtest86 passes with no problems. Found that for some reason slot 2 is bad. Either something blown on the board or a contact issue of some kind. I moved his sticks to slots 1 and 3 and dual-channel is working for 2GB ( 2 x 1GB DDR PC3200 OCZ ) high end sticks.I gave him his system back with it running on slots 1 and 3 vs 0 and 2, and is there any issues that might arise from this not so common memory configuration as for in years past I was told always to populate slot 0 and then you either populate 0 with 1 or 0 with 2 for dual-channel boards, but slots 1 and 3 for dual-channel to skip slot 2 and maintain dual-channel is something I have never had to do before as a work around for a memory slot failure. The odd thing about this failure is that he had been gaming playing BF2 and then in crashed on him with memory failure and it then came up with memory error on boot and so he brought it to me. He wasnt messing with RAM sticks to damage anything and the inside of the computer is actually clean for its age ... Read more

Answer:Memory in slots 1 and 3 vs 0 and 2?

Using slots 1 and 3 vs 0 and 2 won't cause any issues, it's fairly common for anyone using larger CPU coolers to be unable to use the closest slot to the CPU anyway.  I know every single X58 system with 6 RAM slots I've ever built has used slots 1, 3 and 5 rather than 0, 2 and 4 just out of habit.

I have an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe Rev. 2 motherboard that supports up to 3Gb of PC3200. I have three memory modules, 1 512Mb stick and 2 256Mb sticks; all of which are PC3200 and I know for a fact all of them operate just fine. The mobo itself has three memory slots, 2 blue slots (channel 0, I'm assuming) and one black slot (channel 1, I assume). As long as I only use the first two (blue) memory slots, all is well - and I can use whatever combination of memory modules I want.

The problem is this: As soon as I add the third memory module (using the black slot) my computer won't boot. Doesn't matter which memory stick I add to that third slot, the result is the same: I don't get anything. The monitor doesn't "wake up", my USB powered ZIP drive doesn't spin up (it normally does so for a few seconds when booting) I don't even POST code error-beeps.

As soon as I pull out the memory module from that third slot, my computer boots up normally again, and everthing is just fine.

What am I doing wrong?? I'd really like to have a full 1024Mb of RAM running. Preferably in dual-channel mode, which the motherboard supports.

All help appreciated!

Answer:Can't Use All Three Memory Slots?

Dual-channel memory operation requires that you have an even number of DIMMs, I'm not sure why the nForce has 3 slots. Your motherboard manual should tell you what memory configurations are supported.

Ok, i'm a bit confused and I'd greatly appreciate if anyone could be so kind to tell me the bits inside my laptop. I've taken a few pictures. I didn't get a manual with this laptop as it was bought overseas. I've had a look at the IBM website but I still can't quite make out what they are!

Model: IBM R31

I'm trying to upgrade my memory, not sure if there are any slots free? At the moment i've only got 128mb I think which is quite slow...according to this website
http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-41156

it says "Memory: Systems have standard system memory of 128MB or 256MB of 133MHz, non-parity, 64-bit SDRAM SO DIMM memory. This is expandable to a maximum of 1 GB with 128, 256, or 512MB SO DIMMS. There are two internal slots for memory modules, one for the 128MB or 256MB of standard memory and one for a memory upgrade. To obtain the maximum 1GB to which memory can be expanded, replace the 128 or 256MB card with a 512MB card and add another 512MB card in the extra slot."

and http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4NVU4N

..so i'm looking for any SDRAM SoDIMM ? ..and of these type would be compatible? Would upgrading actually make my laptop faster or is that to do with the speed (133mhz) ?

If anyone could tell me what the other slots are, that'd be fantastic! Thanks!!

I am helping a friend improve his computer.I went on Crucial's site to check the memory. To my amassement they suggested adding a 512 Mb to the existing 256Mb.I always thought these all had to be the same value.I suppose lack of memory is the problem as it has only 254Mb, using XP sp2.It gets slower and eventually you get the close Program box and you have to wait minutes for everything to clear. If you drag a box down you get a string of the blue tops down the screen very pretty, but not helpful.

Answer:Different value memory in slots

Yes, you can mix but I would be inclined to get 2 x 512mb and replace the 256mb.You can always sell the 256mb on eBay!!

Question: -3 Memory Slots?

I installed Speccy on my work desktop, and was browsing through it just for kicks and noticed something very odd. Under the RAM tab, it says I have -3 ram slots available? Everything works fine, there's no real problem, just curious as to why this says that? Any clues?

This is a HP Z400 workstation PC, and I don't really have the spec's under my info because it's not my main PC, just a work one, but I will post a pic of the mobo stats. Using Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

Answer:-3 Memory Slots?

What do you see on the HP Z 400 when you poke the RAM icon on the left side of Speccy?

My desktop shows

Total memory slots 4
Used memory slots 2
Free memory slots 2

Don't know why you would see a minus sign. I assume that's your complaint?

Question: Pda memory slots

I have a Ipaq 2495 which has a CF card slot and an Sd card slot. When I load my Tomtom on the CF card all was well. However to make better use of the cards I then loaded it on the smaller sd card and the software would not run. I then loaded it back on the cf card and again it was fine.Is it possible that the cf card takes priority over the sd card or is there a load sequence or is it that the sd card can only be used for data storage?Your help would be much appreciated as I was going to buy a larger sd card to load more of my apps but if they wont run then there is no point in doing this.

Answer:Pda memory slots

I should have mentioned that I did run the rom upgrade which resolves conflict issues between the cf and sd cards, but this maks no differenc eto running apps.

Question: ram memory slots

HelloI have a fujitsu siemens G31T-M2 motherboard. According to "system info" software and http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/ there should be two available slots besides the two slots which are already busy with two ram modules. However after opening the case I saw there aren't any more ram slots besides those two ones which are already used. Why are crucial and "system info" displaying wrong information?According to "System info" software, I have 1GB DDR2-666 (333Mhz) in each slot currently.I want to buy two more ram modules to increase ram capacity up to 4 GB. Now I guess I will have to try replacing the two 1GB ram modules with two 2GB ram modules.I asked in a store for these modules and they told me they just have ddr2 which run at 667Mhz speed. Should they work with my mother board? Should they go faster? Are my motherboard's slots ready to install DDR2 RAM at 667 Mhz? Should I wait until I find 2GB 333Mhz ram modules because they might be cheaper the ones which run at 667Mhz?Is 54 euros (vat included) a good price for a 2GB DDR2 RAM module in general? What is the meaning of the number 666 in the information displayed like DDR2-666 (333Mhz) by "System info"?Thanks

Hi, I've recently received my new laptop which comes with a single 8Gb stick of SK Hynix 2133MHz memory. Although I don't have an immediate need, in the past, I've always looked to see how much an upgrade would cost by downloading and running, say, the Crucial scanner. However it isn't showing if there is an upgrade. It isn't clear whether the laptop comes with two memory slots or one. If anyone can advise, that would be great, and if anyone has upgraded to add another 8Gb, was it easy? I don't particularly want to take my new machine apart especially as it seems I would have to take several bits off to get at the memory unlike my older laptops which were under a single panel. Many thanks

Hi: Please refer to the service manual, chapter 1, page 2 for the models that have two memory slots. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05122688 The models with the Pentium/Celeron processors only have 1 memory slot.

Which one do I believe:

This is product model:

# Maximum Memory: 2048MB
# Slots: 2 (2 banks of 1)
# Standard Memory: 512MB removable
# USB Support: 2.x Compliant

* Currently Installed Memory: 1024 MB
* Available Memory Slots: N.A.

* CPU Manufacturer: GenuineIntel
* CPU Family: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T5600 @ 1.83GHz Model 15, Stepping 6

The second says up to 3

Hi i was just wondering how do you know how many pins your memory slots are...because i was just looking at sticks of memory and i noticed they have 180/184/etc. pins...

so basically how do i know how many pins i have?

haha k thanks!

Answer:Pins on memory slots?

If you have a 286, 386 or early 486, you have 30pin 8bit SIMM slots.

If you have a later 486 or early Pentium/Pentium Pro/K5/K6, you have 72pin 32bit SIMM slots.

If you have a later Pentium, or Pentium 2/3, early Pentium 4 or early Athlon/Duron, you have 168pin 64bit SDRAM DIMM slots.

Some later Pentium 3s and early Pentium 4s have Rambus (RDRAM) slots, you don't have these.

Most machines these days have 184pin 64bit DDR SDRAM DIMM slots, some newer Pentium 4s have 240pin 64bit DDR2 DIMM slots (you don't have these).

I would guess that you have 168pin SDRAM DIMM slots in your machine, although you might have 184pin DDR SDRAM DIMM slots (unlikely). This means your machine takes PC133 SDRAM.

Question: t420 memory slots

Awhile back I bought a us4ed T420-4177CT0 with 8G of memory, and its been a great machine. I decided to upgradeit to 16G and bought 2 8G sticks. When I just now opened it up, there was only a single memory slot (and I lookedhard, and had a friend who has built machines look also) (see pdf). Just to make it weirder, I looked at the 8G cardin it, and it said "8G (2x4G)". So Im wondering if the solution is just to buy a single 16G card, or if there issomething someone with expertise can recommend. Thanks!

Answer:t420 memory slots

According to the User Manaul for you system (see Replacing memory information starting on page 123), there is a second SODIMM memory slot under the keyboard..     The Detailed specifications - ThinkPad T420 document, however, states that it only supports a maximum of 8GB of RAM, but I have found that later BIOS updates often allow for more RAM that the origional Lenovo specs, and have heard that others have successfully upgraded their T420 to 16GB. User Guide ThinkPad T420 and T420ihttps://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/t420_and_t420i_ug_en.pdf ThinkPad T420 and T420i Hardware Maintenance Manualhttps://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/t420_t420i_hmm.pdf Cheers,

Hello,

my pc had a lot bluescreens (over 50 in 3 months). I checked the RAM with Memtest. Every module had over 15 passes and 0 errors, so i guess the ram itself is fine. BUT: i used the ram from my old pc, it's 2x 4GB -> no errors anymore (in 1,5 weeks test-time). But when i use my "new" ram which is 4x 4GB, i'll get the errors again i think. The thing is, my ram is on the compatibility list from the mainboard..

Specs:

CPU: Intel i5-4670k (4x 3.4 GHz)
GPU: Gainward GTX770 2GB
Mainboard: MSI MPOWER SP
RAM: G.Skill Sniper 1600 MHz 16GB
PSU: 750W XFX Pro Series Black Edition
HDD: 2x 1 TB Seagate ST1000DM003
SSD: Samsung 840 PRO 120GB
CD/DVD: LG GH24NS95 DVD-RW

Any ideas?

Best regards,
rOKZYE

Hi TSG, I would like to up my ram to 2gb, I have a hp t550.uk with a Asus P4SD-LA motherboard, everest home says that I have four memory slots but only two have the slots were you can insert the memory, and two are blank showing the silver connectors on the motherboard and holes, I take it were the memory slot (holder) would fit,

Is it just a case that I buy to slots and connect them to the motherboard and then fit DDr memory, or is there anything I must watch out for.

Thanks

Hi: I updated my memory today and was wondering...what are the white slots for in a dc5700 SFF?Thanks, in advance. Carl

Answer:HP dc5700 SFF memory slots

Hi, Carl: I'm not quite sure what you mean...there are several white slots on the motherboard.  The ones that alternate black white, black, white are the memory slots.  You put the same amount of memory in the black slots and the same amount of memory in the white slots.  For example:  1 GB, 1 GB, 1 GB, 1 GB or 512 MB, 1 GB, 512 MB, 1 GB. The white slot with the 'tail' sticking out the back is a ADD2 card slot.  Basically there is only one video card that will work in that slot and it is the one I posted at the link below.   While the slot looks exactly like a PCIe x16 video card slot, it is not. http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/archives_Division/12008_div_v8/12008_div.PDF The other 2 white slots together on the left side of the motherboard are PCI slots.

My G50-80 (Model#80E501G6US) came with 4GB memory but can be expanded to 16GB. So I did the research and understood that the SKU I needed for 8GB cards was Part# 4X70K09921. I purchased 2. They are listed as 8GB Non ECC DDR4 2133MHZ Udimm Memory. But when I opened up the pc to install them, the slot to do so was half as wide as them. It looks like there is room for two 4GB cards only. Please help me undestand. Did I buy the wrong card or is my pc really only expandable to 8GB, even though it says it's expandable to 16GB? Thank you.

I looked into your notebook service manual and found memory specs for 8gb sticks in the parts listing, stating you could use Micron MT16KTF1G64HZ 8gb 204-pin SODIMM PC3-12800 DDR3L sticks.  The memory you purchased appears to be 288 pin UDIMM desktop memory, rather than notebook memory.  I would advise to contact the seller and return the memory for the right notebook memory such as the micron I listed above.

The Lenovo part number for Micron Memory FRU 11201304 should be used if ordering from Lenovo, or you can purchase a similar specification matched pair from Newegg such as these made by G.Skill.

Question: w541 Memory Slots

Does anyone know if there is a particular pattern to how memory should be inserted for this model?I know on certain desktops the memory must be in slots 1 and 3 before using 2 and 4. When it was originally shipped, the 2 DIMMS were in 1 and 3 but after having to reseat the DIMMS because of a "NO"-boot issue I had ended up moving them to 1 and 4. Then I had another "No"-boot issue and the stick would not work at all so I moved them to 1 and 2. I picked up a brand new DIMM to add to the system but it will not work in either of slots 3 or 4. Am I going to need to get a 4th DIMM to make the 3rd work?

i got mine to work in dual chanel mode by placing in bottom slot on each side , according to cpuz and lenovo app slot 1 and 4

working on a Compac Presario model SR5510F with Vista 32 bit Home Edition installed for a friend. All of a sudden it will not boot, a momentary blue screen and it reboots. Safe mode, or Windows repair, nothing will get it to start. It has two 1GB memory chips, so I thought I'd try booting with only one chip in.
As soon as I did that it was fine, doesn't seem to matter which memory slot is in use, it did seem however that one of the memory chips was not as good.
It runs impossibly slow on 1GB so I had her buy a crucial memory upgrade, 2 - 2GB chips.
Now, I have the same problem again. The computer simply will not start with both memory slots in use.
There was a bios upgrade available, which I ran but it doesn't seem to have made any difference. `
Also, I did check the bios, with two chips in, the computer sees them, just refuses to boot. I wish it would stop long enough on the BSOD so I could see what it says.

Hello everybody, my first question here.
I bought a second-hand Precision T1650 Xeon E3 1240 with 8gb, 4x2gb.
I reinstalled Windows 7 with new drivers, bios etc...
And now the computer works with only 4gb. I checked the bios and it shows slots 3 & 4 empty. The 8gb were working the day before.
After many hours googling it, I found only unresolved questions, but I tried many things.
- I switched sticks 1 & 2 with 3 & 4. Same result (slots 3 & 4 empty) but it tells me every sticks is OK.
- I removed sticks from slots 1 & 2. The computer works with the 4gb on slots 3 & 4, I guess all the slots are OK two.
- I tried with 4x8gb sticks I have from another computer. With 32gb, the bios tells me 16gb available and slots 3 & 4 empty. So the cpu can handle at least 16gb.
- CPU-Z find the 4 sticks and all the memory that is set up.
- I checked MSConfig. No limitation.
- I read about issues with the cpu and fan. Took it off and back. Nothing seems to be wrong.
- I unplugged every pci and usb device to see if there was something wrong with the psu. Nothing.
- I reinstalled Windows and drivers a second time. Nothing.
- I tried older version of the bios. 2012, 2015 and back to 2017. Nothing.
Just can't find what I did wrong when I installed my new setup, and I just find on internet people who bought a new motherboard finally.
All my love and my gratitude to anyone who can help me.
Franck

(Possibly incorrectly), I put the new memory in alternate slots, so the memory is now reporting as:

Can anyone please advise if this is the correct configuration and if the configuration is incorrect, will there be a significant hit in performance?

What's the most memory i add in the 2 empty slots on xps 435mt?

My machine currently has Elpida EBJ10UE8BAFA-DJ-E 0 serial 2A01-0810 in 4 dimm slots at 1 gb each.

I don't want to remove those, just want to add as much extra as possible.

I've read posts about having multiples of 3s being optimum but why didn't this one originally come in 3s but as 4 one sticks?

If possibly, can you recommend the exact company and model # that actually worked in your machine.  Max performance isn't necessary just max stability, least worry, no trial and error, you know.
The power supply is 360watt (or 300 both numbers are on the unit).  Will that be able to handle extra memory?  I've read where others put 24gb but they don't say whether psu is upgraded.  i don't want to upgrade my psu.

Answer:What's the most memory i add in the 2 empty slots on xps 435mt?

Max is 6X4 = 24 G;  bear in mind the OS factors into this (7 Home Basic-64 has an 8G limit;  Home Premium, 16 G;  Windows 8, 10 and 7 Pro/Enterprise have limits above 24G).
Crucial has the best deals on memory most of the time and guarantees compatibility.

It does just slide off to the left (away from center).  Might there be a screw?  Mine just slides.  It clicks into place but doesn't take too much to slide it off.  Just used my fingers on the lip and other hand pressing enough to gain traction to help slide it.

Hi,

I have Windows 8.1 32-bit installed and have fitted my PC (Dell Inspiron 531) with 4GB RAM.

The system only reports 3.25gb as usable - where has the remainder gone?

Is it the Graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT)?

I understand that Win8.1 32-bit can utilise a full 4GB of RAM?

Also in the Task Manager, it reports that I have used "2 of 2 slots", however I have 4 RAM slots inside the machine where the RAM is fitted (4 x 1GB fitted).

Any help?

Ive been running a 550ti with 16gigs of corsairs vengeance ram for a little over a year now. I decided to upgrade my video card. Went with a 7950 w/boost and since then, I have been unable to use all 16 gigs of ram(4x4GB). I can use any combination of memory sticks to have 8GB so I know each stick of memory works. I have tried each stick in each slot on the mobo as well. Boots fine. I figured the mobo was going bad so I replaced it with a MSI z77a-g45 board. Same issue.

I have updated the bios and even tried other ram(same kind from a friend). The machine wont boot at all. I have to reset the cmos and just use one stick to get it booted up again. Ive tried searching google but I just end up with video card comparisons, and buying ram suggestions. Any ideas?

I built a computer a while back and it's been running mostly fine. I have a spontaneous rebooting problem and it points to a driver problem. But something has been bugging me.

When I built the machine, the MSI manual gave me three choices to install memory.

1. Two sticks in 1 and 3.
2. Two sticks in 2 and 4.
or
3. Four sticks in 1,2,3, and 4.

They also made sure that I knew to make sure I had a stick in the first slot. That kind of negated the second option.

I was going to send in this question to MSI but.......Holy S(*&!, Batman. What a questionnaire.

The general question is- Has anyone ever seen such a configuration for memory placement? I am using 1 and 3 slots and other than the restart issues, the machine is blazing fast.

Answer:MSI puts memory in strange slots

Yes. Your system probably supports dual-channel memory. Dual channel memory gets you a slight speed advantage. To avail yourself of this performance advantage, the memory sticks in slots 1 & 3 should match each other and the chips in 2 & 4 should match other.

To be clear, all slots do not require the same sticks so the sticks in 1 & 3 could be 256 Megs each and the chips in 2 & 4 could be 512 Megs each. Matching sizes isn't all that matters, though. They should also match as to type. So, if the stick in slot one is a two-wafer chip, you would also want a two-wafer stick in slot three.

The other memory slot is underneath the keyboard, you'll have to disassemble the unit a little to get to it.

Hi,

I have bought this system as my first Toshiba laptop.
Satellite L550D-136
Part Number : PSLXSE-00E00SY4

I have visited crucial.com to test what kind of memory I can put in this laptop and it comes back with result that it could not exactly identify which type of system it is but it is showing that this laptop carries 4 memory slots. So I went ahead and opened it up from the bottom and I can only see two slots (2x2GB).

Is there some more slots hidden on the other side of they mob or is this information from crucial false?

I cannot seem to find any proper documentation on the toshiba support website.

Thanks

Answer:Satellite L550D-136 - How many memory slots does it have?

I have a Dell with a Pentium 4 (520) processor on a 915 chipset.Up to 4GB of DDR2 memory are fittable in 4 slots. It came with 256Mb in slot one when I bought it. I subsequently added another 256Mb module a couple of months after and fitted it in the adjacent slot on the board thinking I would then benefit not only from more memory but from the dual channel function which is supposed to be better. This is the wierd bit - when I run Belarc advisor on my PC it says Slot 'DIMM 1' = 256MB Slot 'DIMM 3' = EmptySlot 'DIMM 2' = 256MBSlot 'DIMM 4' = Empty(in that order on the page)But I happened to be in the BIOS the other day and the BIOS told me that 256Mb modules were installed in slots 1 and 3, and therefore dual channel memory funtion is not active.Regardless of this I have just bought an additional 512MB module this morning as I'm finding I need more than the 512 I've got. My question is - can anyone tell me which of my 256, 256 and 512MB modules should go in which slots on the motherboard, to give me the best use of my memory?

Answer:Fitting DDR2 memory - which slots best?

For dual channel operation it is normal for matching dimms to be fitted in slots 1 and 3 then 2 and 4. Normally you can use 1 dimm (single channel), 2 dimms or 4 dimms (dual channel) but not 3 dimms as the system then doesn't know what you expect of it. But then Dell sometimes make up their own rules.

hi windows xp home, asus a7n8x-x mobo (single channel). mobo has 3 memory slots taking max 3Gb. i have 2 slots filled - each with 512Mb pc3200. i'm thinking of adding another 512mb stick in remaining available memory slot but have read that it's not advisable to fill all your memory slots. i don't understand this but have you any views. for info adding extra 512mb for gaming (thinking of fear/etc when released)many thanksP

Answer:filling all memory slots on mobo

I dont see the point of having 3 slots if you cant fill them,if the mobo supports 3 gig then it should support 1.5 no problems, and as for the gaming i doubt you will see a lot of difference in the game speed with the extra 512,but i dont know the games specs,so cant say what it will need to run.

I have a Lenovo K300 5316-XF7 that I purchased earlier this year and I recently went to upgrade the memory from 4GB to 8GB.  I tried this RAM set first but it didn't work so I reordered and picked out and this one second because it had the exact same memory speed/specs as the stock ram.  Still no dice.  I even put the original system memory into the other 2 empty slots and it wouldn't work.  Does this mean it has bad ram slots?  I looked up the serial number and it's still under warranty until mid-March, but if I'm just missing something then let me know..  Also very interested in updating the BIOS but I can't find any information on it...

Answer:K300 can't upgrade memory, 2 slots possibly bad?

What does the BIOS read? Is the new RAM showing up anywhere? If not, I would call Lenovo while it's still under warranty. They have had a bad rash of Motherboards.

I have an 8910 SE on the way. I ordered it with one 16 GB module and  on the same order I purchased an additional 16 GB module. (wish I could have simply ordered it with 32GB, but that's a different issue!)  In reading the 8910 service manual, it states (on page 65) "Use slots DIMM1 and DIMM3 if you need to use two memory modules." When I look at the photo of the system board on page 15 of the manual, it shows DIMM1 with white tabs and DIMM3 with black tabs.  I've been told (generally) that when installing pairs of memory modules they should be in the slots with the same colored tabs.  Knowing that there's never a mistake in any manual ;-) I want to clarify/verify how to correctly install the 2nd memory module in my new computer when it arrives (soon, I hope!). Thanks for your consideration and comments.

Answer:Adding memory to XPS 8910, confused about which slots.

Add the other module to the slot of the same color as the original arrives installed in.

Have you updated your BIOS to the up to date version to see if that resolved the video chip sleep issues? It looks like we have version 2.17 posted in September 2014 on the Drivers and Manual page.

The maximum amount of memory per slot is 8GB, totalling 16GB.

Usually it?s no matter what memory module was placed in the single slot?
The notebook should recognize both without any problems?

But back to your question;
The slots should be marked as 0 and 1?. You should find these numerals somewhere near to the slots? but once again? you can use both modules in different slots ;)

Hello everyone ,
First post here .

I recently bought a motherboard and a processor.
MB: Gigabyte GA-EP41-UD3L GA-EP41-UD3L (rev. 1.0) - GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Overview
CPU : E7400 (Freq:2.8Ghz , FSB 1066 , 3MB cache)

All fine here.
I had home 4x1GB DDR2 667MHZ M378T2953EZ3-CE6 .(Samsung)

In my motherboard i have 4 memorry slots.
If i use any of the those memory in slots 1 and 3 it works (having 2GB).
If i add in slot 2 and slot 4 the other 2 i cant use it , the computer simply enters in a reset loop.
I switch those 4 dimms in all ways and still nothing.only in 1 and 3.
Someone told me that the issue is that the MB was ment for 800Mhz not 667Mhz like my memory.
But if 2 works why not 4?
I made the Bios Update from F4 to F5 ..nothing.
Someone else sugested i should play with the memorry and put it lower the 667 and the computer might see all of these..tried that ...still nothing.
What is odd , is the fact that in Gigabyte memory list they have Samsung that works with DDR2 , 667Mhz but 4GB module.
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/...-ep41-ud3l.pdf

If someone has an ideea (exept buying new memory ) what to do please tell me.

Thank you ,
Bogdan

Answer:Motherboard doesnt recognize all memory slots...

You could try updating the BIOS on that board. Gigabyte boards are easy to do. Sometimes they make them more compatible with more memory. It may help.

Otherwise, you might have bad memory or that board might have a bad slot. You could try booting it with one stick in each slot to see.

Hi everybody,

I followed a user guide - it tells I can install two RAM modules into this nice notebook.
But when I revealed the cover at its back - I saw only 1 slot.

Can anybody provide info on where is the second one or whether it can be replaced at all?

Answer:Re: Satellite M100-233 memory slots location

Hi

The notebook should support two memory slots and both are upgradable.

I think the other slot is placed under the keyboard.

So if you want to upgrade the memory in the other slot then you will have to remove the keyboard.

Generally the keyboard is fixed with two screws hidden under the thin plastic cover above the F1-F12 buttons.
Remove the cover, remove the screws and you should be able to lift out the keyboard. But be careful because it?s connected to the board with the flat cable

Hi

I have a question about this model Toshiba Satellite 3000-x4 PS301E-000K8-EN. I took of the chasis on this model today to do a repair job for somebody in my family. When i took of the VGA board I discovered what looked like another memory slot.
So my question is how many memory slots does this model have?

I have been reading online and i checked the specs page and they are all pointing to this model having two memory slots.
If that is this case then what is this thing that looked like a memory slot underneath the vga board?
I was going to buy another piece of RAM for this model today making three but i decided to hold of a bit to check it out first.

There are already two sticks of memory in this laptop already, 512MB and 128MB. This model can take up to 1GB.
So what do you think are there two memory slots or three on this model?

Thanks

Hello Lenovo community! I direly need help with something. I ordered my Lenovo Thinkpad W520 nearly 4 years with 16GB of RAM. This means it has always had the 16GB since I got it. I recently had made the switch from Windows 7 to Ubuntu 14.10 for OS. I love Ubuntu but realized the functionality (games lol) of having Windows 7 is a no brainer. I began my reinstall and when I booted Windows 7 it stated that I only had 8GB of RAM!! Even the BIOS states that there are only 8GB... Why might this be happening?? I paid good money for the extra RAM so why it wouldn't be registering it is beyond me. I've performed various diagnostics on my memory to no avail. If this community could guide me in the right direction that would be great.

I ran across a old dell computer in a yard sale. It is a Dell 340 workstation.
I was hoping to rob it of some 2700 memory partsfor another pentium 4 dell
but after I got it home I found that it has PC800 memory parts. I guess I bought
the wrong machine here but that is what happens when you take a chance
at yard sales. When was these memory parts produced? This dell is a four slot machine
which only shows slots 1 & 2 working when I have all 4 slots full of menory. Does anyone know the history of this machine and this memory type? Does anyone know how to get all four of my memory chips working in this machine?

i have recently purchased an advent 7088 laptop, in the specs it says i can use upto 2gb of ram, when the tec (pcworld )was putting in extra memory he said it only has one slot, and a built in memory of 256mg, now if i added a 1 gb stick i get 1.256gb max so can anyone tell me is there only one slot as it does look like there is a slot behind the exsisting one, but this has a wider black bar in the rack and it does not have grips at the side. there is also a slot in another space but this is smaller than a 200pin and is probably for something i am ignorant about, as i don't seem to be able to find much information about this laptop and the e-manual that come swith it is for a desktop pc. any help please
