NEC Versa Laptop speakers don't work no more

Question: NEC Versa Laptop speakers don't work no more

I have a NEC Versa Note Vx P3-500 mhz, 128 mb, and running on windows xp pro. I'm having a difficult time making the internal speakers work for this laptop. Originally it was pre-installed with Windows 98 and they said the speakers were working, but upon upgrading to XP it doesn't work no more. some other functions also on keyboard no longer function too. I tried updating the system drivers over tHE NEC webiste but still nothing works. any idea how to make these speakers work on winxp. I would appreciate any idea.Mike

Preferred Solution: NEC Versa Laptop speakers don't work no more

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: NEC Versa Laptop speakers don't work no more

It may not be the speakers, it may be the sound card does not have drivers loaded, or even available for XP. You should look in Device Manager for problems and post a lot more information.

Hi all,

I have a Dell XPS M1330 laptop and have recently upgraded to windows 7 professional (32bit) from windows vista. Everything seems to be running smoothly except I can get no sound from the internal laptop speakers. When I plug in external speakers in via the jacks on the front, sound comes through fine, but as soon as I unplug them there is nothing. Headphones also work like this too. Under sounds in device manager, it simply says 'High Definition Audio Device', and I'm not sure if I should be downloading some other drivers?

Any advice is welcome!
Thanks.

Answer:External Speakers work, Laptop speakers do not

What do you have set as your default sound device? Mine is set to my external speakers.

A weird thing happens when I use my X200 with speakers and then disconnect them. The speakers on the laptop don't emit any sound. It is not on mute and when I go into control panel it seems to use Conexant Audio Output which is really the only one that isn't generic. Any ideas what I need to do ? Thanks

IDK y but if I don't reverse my speakers, the sound from my games sounds reverse.

For example. If I put my speakers in the proper order, sounds of bullet will come from my left speaker but actually it's coming from my right side and vice versa. This also happens on my old speakers and old computer and other games too.

Is it just me?

Answer:I have to reverse my speakers position. (L is at R and vice versa)

Some games can reverse left and right in the audio options. So first check if you didn't click that by accident.

If that's OK, go to Control panel/Sound/Speaker/Configure and run the test.
If it comes up reversed, just unplug and switch the speakers .

I have 2 speakers, nothing fancy. And a Sennheiser USB headset. Problem is when I set my default audio device to Realtek High Def Audio, my speakers work and my headphones don't. I have to manually set the default device to my headphones, but then my speakers don't work.

Is there a way to have audio through both?

Answer:Audio from speakers, not from headset, vice-versa.

is there a way to quickly switch default audio from speakers to HDMI and visa versa with one click or even automatically switch to HDMI when displaying to a 'digital television' (or when an HDMI cable is plugged in) and switch back to speakers when displaying to the 'monitor' (or when the cable is unplugged i am doubtfull of this though as my intel graphic tray has enough trouble switching back to the monitor when the HDMI is unplugged i have to do it manually beforehand)

my main line of though is two batch files, one for switching to HDMI and one to switch to seekers, or one with an if statement i.e.

if (default_audio == Speeaker) set default_audio = HDMI
else set default_audio == Speeaker

can this be done

Answer:Quickly switch default audio from speakers to HDMI and visa versa

found this which appears to do what i want it to do Windows 7 Tip: How to change the default audio device with a hotkey sorry for any inconvenience please leave this thread here as this seems to be a common problem

Hi guys. I have an ADVENT Roma 2000 and my laptop speakers aren't working! I tried fixing it on my own but I decided to ask you, the experts.
I already tried:
1. sfc scannow (Scan was finished but there is still some errors in cbs.log that cant be repaired. And oh, is it normal for the scan to end at 98%)
2. enabling and disabling realtek in dev manager.(uninstall+restart is included)
> Like to add that in its properties it's saying, "the device is working properly"
3. downloading and installing the new update of realtek.
4. Putting external audio devices.(like headphones, earphones, etc.)
> Still I can't hear a sound from these.

I don't know but I think the pop-up message after I start my laptop, has something to do with it.

iaanotif.exe - system error
isdi.dll is missing

Answer:My laptop speakers won't work.

Sounds like your sound card has blown. Do you hear any system sounds at all and when did this problem start occurring?

The files missing are to do with RAID.

I have a really weird problem, so thank you for any advice/help in advance. This may take awhile...so I'm sorry if this is a little longer than you guys hope for, I just don't want to miss any details

Specs: HP Pavilion dv5-1099nr Notebook PC
2 Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 Processors @ 2.00 GHz ea.
Windows Vista Home Premium
4.00GB RAM
320GB internal HD, 250GB external
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT Video
IDT High Definition Audio

I think that's it if you need anything else just ask!

Okay, now my problem...

My laptop speakers are Altec Lansing, not sure if that matters, but they produce no sound in normal operation. The headphones work flawlessly, but when I unplug them the speakers do not kick in and take over...I lose all sound. It gets even better, though, because if I mute my speakers, then unmute them I hear a split-second clip of audio...then all is quiet again. There's a pop, like a click, when I unmute and sound comes out, immediately after I unmute, but as soon as it started it goes away

So I go to my IDT Control Panel...here's where it gets even better. I notice my playback is set to "Speakers and Dual Independent Headphones." There's a picture of a set of headphones, and if I click either side of the headphones it's supposed to make a sound...it does, but I can't hear it unless I mute and unmute, which as I stated earlier ... I reinstalled the sound drivers, and got the headphone jacks running, but the speakers are still malfunctioning. Do you guys know anything I can do?Thanks in advance,Leo

i have an IBM thinkpad z60, running windows 7. I got it second hand off amazon and the sound didn't work when i got it. i have two playback devices listed: digital audio (S/PDIF) which is working, and then Speakers, which most of the time says not plugged in. both devices have the most recent drivers.
The weird part is that SOMETIMES the sound works. every now and then when I open my computer (it doesn't seem to be triggered by reboots, it happens randomly) the speakers will be working, and I'll have sound for a while (as long as one day so far, even if i close it and open it again) and then they'll randomly stop working and go back to saying not plugged in. I don't use external speakers so I really have no idea what to do about it. If someone could help me at least understand WHY it does this, I'd be grateful. Thanks!

I think the cause was a driver I downloaded at Windows Update suggestion. If I look at Control Panel > Sounds > Audio or Voice it says "Modem #1 Line Playback" in all the boxes rather than the Sound Systems name which it says on my PC.I cannot use "System Restore" as I have done quite a lot of updating of software since that happened, including clearing the Recycle Bin, the Temp Internet Files and Defragging the drive.Where do I find the Drivers and how do I enable them?

In my Sound and Audio Device Properties menu the various drop-down boxes give me a range of options to choose for sound playback. Doesn't yours?Have you also checked in Volume Control that nothing's muted?

Hello,

My  HP laptop is a Pavillion Entertainment dv6-2170us, product: WA778UA#ABA, serial [edited by mod on 8-20-14] running Windows 7 Home Premium OA 64 bit and purchased 2010 (I think).  It is running HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth 2.1 Wireless. Driver provider is Broadcom, 6/15/2009 version 6.2.0.9000

Although my beloved HP laptop shows it has paired with 2 bluetooth speakers I bought this past week, it won't play music through them.  Since both bluetooth speakers work fine with my brand new HP Envy desktop, I am guessing this is due to my laptop running outdated Bluetooh driver.  Unfortunately, the 'update bluetooth driver' button has been grayed out, and I don't know how else to update the bluetooth driver.  I just ran the HP update, but that didn't seem to affect the bluetooth driver.

Bluetooth speakers I have paired:
EasyAcc cannon
Ion Mini Block Rocker

The EasyAcc cannon flashes blue, and their information states it is ready to be paired even though my HP device manager shows it is paired to the laptop.

I tried several of the suggestions on your forum, but was unsuccessful.  I hope to use this speaker in my classroom next week, so your help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Lori

Like the title says.
-Laptop speakers suddenly stop working one day after I turn on my computer from sleep mode, it's been about 1-2 months now and they're still not working
-Of course I've restarted/shut down/hibernated/sleep'd my computer many times since then
-I can plug in headphones and external speakers and they work just fine
-My audio driver is enabled/up to date and works fine (obviously since I can use headphones)
-The speakers AREN'T broken, proof is that my computer has a little startup "Republic of Gamers" logo with an explosion sound, and it plays just fine through the speakers
-There was an incident about a few days before this happened: ASUS laptops are known to do this, where they short circuit and shut down if you accidentally touch a headphone plug into the USB port. I'm not sure if this contributed, since my speakers worked fine afterward

The only thing that restores speaker function is a reboot. Any tips?

I didn't know what all the sound card jacks did on my PC, so I looked in my manual and now I see that, since my two audio out ports are taken up by speakers and a subwoofer, I can use the free versa jack for my headphones. I plugged them in, but there is no sound. How do I use the headphones? Yes, there is another headphone jack in the front of the PC which does work, but it's a headset I'm using, and the two plugs (one for headphones, one for the speaker part) are close together, so I can only use the jacks that are next to the mic jack.

Anyone have any ideas? I thought it was because my headset was effed up, but it turns out that all kinds of headphones just don't work with it. I can't really comprehend the problem because my laptop's built in speakers (which use the same device) WORK PERFECTLY FINE! All settings are default as usual, I tried reinstalling the Realtek driver, restarted many times, etc. No dice.

Headphone jack busted?

Alright, I've been trying to find anyone with a similar problem, tried some different things but none worked.
I have a jack on the side of the laptop as usual, where I plug my headphones which do work perfectly. The laptop's internal speakers also work. The problem comes when I try to plug in external speakers. So far I've tried 3 sets, 2 of them with a jack plug and one with a normal USB plug. The issue is with all 3 that only one half works properly, the other is very quiet and distorted. I've also tried streaming sound onto my phone and plugging the speakers into the phone itself, but same deal as before.

Is it a hardware issue? If yes, why do headphones and the internal speakers work?

If anyone has any ideas I'd be thankful.

I'm running windows 10 home 64bit on a Lenovo y500

Answer:Can't get external speakers to work properly on laptop

It is common to find that different jack plugs have slightly different sizes and tolerances, and some connect better than others, and also that the sockets on laptops are subject to wear, and will lose some connectivity with one or both channels. If you can find an adapter - with a short length of cable for strain relief, and preferably an angled male plug connector - that fits well to both to the laptop and headphones, but also to external speakers, that may be a solution.

Some audio control panels allow for output to other sockets, if the audio chip is capable - for instance not only the headphone jack but also the microphone jack, which may be less worn, and may be a better connection for your speaker jacks - at the loss of an external microphone connection. This may not be an option on some laptops.

Otherwise, the socket on the laptop may need to be replaced or adjusted so that the contacts connect all of your plugs equally well - a delicate job best performed by a qualified repair technician. Laptop motherboards are quite flimsy, and movement of the jack through strain on the headphone cable etc., can cause board cracking and solder joint or copper trace failures.

I am new to BCDEdit and EasyBCD is not letting me edit the BCD entries. I have the both Win 7 and 8's BCDedit values in a text file. I just need to add them in one file. When I add 8's ID to Win7 BCD it says "An error occurred while attempting to reference the specified entry. The system cannot find the file specified."

One more thing, I can access the D: (Windows 8) drive from Windows 7 and vice versa, but I can't boot up Win 8 without setting it as active in diskpart. When I do that, Windows 7 is no longer available and setting it as active in diskpart doesn't let me boot back to it BECAUSE Windows 8 switches its letter to C: and Win 7 becomes D: (Check BCD below). Answer:Help please my Dell laptop(internal speakers) dont work all the time only sometimes

The jack where you plug in your headphones probably turns the speakers
off when the headphones are plugged in.
Over time, this causes wear to the jack and it does not make contact
properly,so the audio is not being passed to th speakers.
You can have the jack replaced(expensive?), or use a set of USB powered
external speakers.
BTW,not a good idea to bang on a laptop.

I'm really baffled here as to what's going on with my laptop audio. It was working just a few days ago from what I remember and now tonight when I was playing a game in Steam the audio just wasn't working. Checked audio settings in the game, all was good. Turned the game off and started testing using YouTube, still nothing. The volume is definitely up and I found that headphones work fine. When I open the 'Playback devices' dialogue from right clicking the speaker in the task bar it shows the green equalizer bar moving up and down if something is playing, but there's no audio. I've checked for any conflicting devices in here and ensured everything was enabled as per usual.

So far I've updated the drivers, uninstalled the drivers completely and reinstalled them (automatically after restarting laptop), and have checked for updates on my computer (all up to date). My device manger does have 2 drivers listed which I thought was weird, but maybe it has always been like this? I'm not sure honestly. I uninstalled both and they both came back after restarting. See the image here:

Is there anything else to try? I thought uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them would fix it, but nope.

System details: Windows 10, Acer Aspire laptop (~7 months old? No issues thus far). Let me know if I need to provide any more details! Very frustrated and need to get to bed now because of work in the morning, but I will be sure to check back and try any suggestions and answer any questions.

A month ago, I switched from DSL with an Actiontek modem/router using WEP to a cable modem and an SMC Barricade router using WPA-PSK TKIP. Ever since the switch, 3 things have been happening:

1. The Mac (Intel-based running OS X 10.5.8) drops its connection OFTEN. Have to stop/start Airport to get it going again. Husband is NOT happy.
2. The Mac can't ping ANYTHING (operation not permitted) and it can't be pinged from my other system (PC with Win XP SP 3 Home).
3. I used to be able to share files and printers with no problems whatsoever. Now, I can connect to the laptop from the Mac ONCE IN A WHILE - it disconnects frequently. I can't connect to the Mac from the laptop - other than being able to see "Printers and Faxes" SOMETIMES when I use Start/Run and enter the Mac's IP address - up comes printers and faxes - but if I add to that the path to my desktop on the Mac - nope, nothing - can't find it.

I know I'm entering it correctly as that information hasn't changed from when I was on the DSL/Actiontek, other than the IP address. Both systems have the same workgroup name and I've made sure the subnet Mask is the same, etc. NO FIREWALLS are enabled on either system - using the router firewall.

I have spent more than 30 hours searching for a reason why this is happening. Right off the bat, I blamed the router since everything was hunky-dory with the old one. So, I changed the settings on the new one to match the old. Didn&... Read more

her well!) It basically won't power up. Won't run on battery, power cord, or big
external battery pack that sits under the laptop.

It previously had a problem that it wouldn't run on battery, so I found this OEM ~20 hr external battery pack cheap. It was pretty cool; I figured that whether the problem was with the old battery or the battery connectors in the laptop, this battery pack uses a different connector under the laptop. Anyway, that worked for about six months. The only problem was that you had to remove the regular battery to use the external battery.

Basically the only sign of life is when you plug the power cord in the power light on the front edge lights up for 10 seconds, the hard drive spins for a few seconds, and then the laptop goes dead again.

Any Clues? Is this fixable? Or should I get her an old Apple Macintosh Duo 2300 laptop??? I'm mostly a Mac Guy.

Thanks, Jim.

Answer:NEC Versa FX Laptop won't Power Up

Shalom to Shalom Orchard,

It's very possible that this current problem is not related to the battery supply, etc.

It's possibly a cooling issue??? That's a reasonable amount of time for the processor to signal to shutdn for overheating protection. You may have lost the fan?

I've started a new thread as the issue is slightly different. This is a friend's laptop which had a Windows failure.

I've managed to get WinXP onto the laptop using my disk with the laptops activation code, but didn't have the drivers.

I do now have the CDs with the laptop drivers on it but haven't been able to work out to install them, that is assuming that I can do that.

To date I have installed the WinXP SP3 update, and Spybot, internet works using ethernet, but she is on dial up. Also touch pad and CD won't be play music because the drivers aren't installed.

goto the laptop manufacturers website - and you should find all the latest drivers for the machine there
if you goto device manager - View - show hidden devices
There you will find ? or ! for items that need attention and drivers

If anyone can offer advice or info would be much appreciated.

My laptop started getting a Blue Screen Error 2 weeks ago with error code 0x0000007A. At times it would run for several hours before crashing and at others 5 to 10 mins. Usually when it crashed a distinct clicking noice could be heard coming from the laptop pointing to the fact that it might be hardware error or thats at least what i thought

Anyways moving things along i called NEC who gave me differing pieces of information, eventually the last guy i spoke to advised me to do a system recovery i.e at the NEC screen when the computer starts up to key F11.

So i ran the program and it scanned the system taking a 'end user image of the partition' or something along those lines. The scan ran fully and i thought it was successful, however since restarting after the scan the NEC screen loads then i get a black screen with MISSING OPERATING SYSEM written in the top left of the screen.

I was told by the support chap at NEC that windows xp proffesional i was using before would still be there but it wasnt. So now am left with a giant paper weight instead of a Laptop.

Any hints tips advice welcome, cheers

Answer:NEC Versa M340 laptop please help!!!

Do you have the power supply plugged in or are you running it on the battery?

One possibility, might be overheating. Make sure the laptop is cool (off for awhile) and try starting on the battery, see if the same thing happens.

I would also unplug any extra devices you might have.

Hi Guys,

This might seem like a very strange issue. I have been trying to deal with it for some time now and still cannot find a way around it.

I have an NEC laptop that is out of warranty. The touchpad works fine but the keyboard doesn't. It seems to have previously been wiped so there is no recovery partition to look for. I know that wiping it hasn't had an effect on the keyboard because it worked fine previously.

When I turn the Laptop on when you try boot from recovery disk, no luck so I plug in an external USB keyboard. The does not load until I enter Windows. Tried now with several keyboards and am beggining to worry about it.

The driver disks that I try to run on startup do not work with this laptop. Tried reinstalling all of the drivers on the disks with no success. So I am at a loss to know how to resolve it.

Note: The laptop has not been dropped or anything happened to it that could have caused the keyboard to break like this.

Appreciate any feedback.
Regards

Craig.

I can't be certain this will help but you can at least persuade the keyboard to work before Windows cuts in by going into BIOS or Setup at the first screen you see when you boot up. Look for the setting USB Legacy Support and change it to Enabled.

Hi all, I have a friends laptop, it just will not start up no matter what I have tried. It seems to start into the bios then stops, I have tried to reset it with the reset button, taken out the battery & tried pressing the start button without the power on. I have tried using a Win XP SP2 OS disk, it starts to run then just stops. The HDD light flickers on, then off, momentarily when I have pressed the on button. I just can not get into the bios to do anything with removing it to reload it. The screen does not light up, I have tried an additional monitor to no avail. The power supply lights & battery charging lights, light up, also the fan runs.Any ideas to get this running again please.

Once I plug my headphones in or my hearing aids bluetooth device in, it all goes south. The internal speakers continue to work as does the bluetooth, but nothing is coming out of the headphones. Since I was once in IT, this problem is unique to the jack itself. Either the jack lifted up or was pushed back and never properly tested. The hook, I just received this computer 3 weeks ago to replace a faulty HDMI out port. I was told that there would be an open ticket so if I had any problems with this computer it would be attended to. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

Can anyone help? I'm new at this networking, and haven't got a clue where to begin.I have a Belkin wireless router connected to an ADSL modem. My desktop uses the usb wireless adapter and my laptop has inbuilt wireless capability. Both the desktop and the laptop can connect to the internet, but I can't get them to talk to each other or access files etc.I set up a workgroup called home on each, and have allowed sharing at the C root level. When I go to Workgroups, the home workgroup is there and I can see my desktop from my laptop and vice versa, but when I try to connect it says that I don't have permission see the network administrator and path not found.Could someone please tell me where I'm going wrong in simple plain steps for a simple plain person. Many thanks.

Answer:Desktop won't talk to Laptop and Vice Versa

Your client firewalls are blocking access at a local level because you have not configured them properly. Sort that and you should find that it works. Please also bear in mind all the other tips that I often have to mention:You may need to change account settings on each client to provide some commonality, or enable the guest account and add a password. You may need to run the NSW (not essential, but it does configure a client for two-way access where there was none before) if you do not know hot to enable file sharing and its related functions. You may need to run services.msc and check for required services, such as the Computer Browser, etc.

hello:

I "inherited" an NEC Versa laptop, model 4230. We finally got it up and running but I think we need to replace the CMOS button battery (I get a "System battery is dead" error message). I have the right size/current/voltage battery but cannot access the board. I realize I may have to solder leads on the battery to secure it properly to the board. Is there a special NEC tool to take this cartridge/mother board out? There is a lock/unlock icon next to a small hole of this cartridge. All of the other cartridges do not have this oval shaped hole. What shape is the tool? How can I change my battery w/out getting to this board?

Thanks in advance,
PamK in San Jose, CA

Answer:replacement of CMOS battery in NEC Versa laptop

The "lock/unlock" symbol next to an "oval hole" sounds very much like the standard Kensington Lock provision on a laptop.

This is for attaching a locking cable to lock the PC to a desk, and prevent theft. Its not a lock to get access internally for the laptop.

The "system battery" will be the little button cell or similar that is located on the motherboard of the laptop, probably deep within the internals.

Taking a laptop apart (and getting it back together) without damaging the laptop can be a complex and difficult operation, and you really need the full service manual to find out how its done for that model. I would suggest taking it to a shop.

Hey guys I'm having a bit of a problem with my LAN here. I've got a desktop and a laptop both with Windows 7 on the same LAN and both have their network setting to Home. From my desktop, I am able to add a network location in My Computer to connect to my laptop. However, on my laptop I am unable to connect to my desktop. The desktop shows up in the list of network locations on my laptop but it always times out trying to connect to it and just says there was a problem with the connection.

I know the problem is not with my laptop because I am able to connect to my other PC as a network location. I really need to be able to connect to my main desktop though. Does anybody have any ideas as to what is going on here?

I have a desktop running Windows 7 professional 64-bit.
I have a laptop running Windows 7 Home 64-bit.

I want to share partitions on the laptop so I can copy files (generally using Syncback) from the desktop to the laptop.
So, I go into properties, select Share With and Advanced Sharing.
Then into Advanced Sharing where I give the partition a unique name.
Then select Permissions.

HOW do I set the permission so my account on the desktop can copy files to the laptop? I use the same username and password on both boxes. I specified my username on the laptop and got a user of laptopname\username.

On the desktop I can look in "Network", see the laptop, AND see the shared partition. But, when I try to copy a file from the desktop to the partition I get a "try again" and it says "You need permission to perform this action"
I don't want to give "Everyone" full control, but that's the only way I've been able to get this work...

I presume this is a security problem, and if it is, how do I do this so I have to be my account to do the copies?

Answer:Copying files from desktop to laptop and vice versa?

I noticed this has happen to my network last week it had the same problem. I even had my drive shared to everyone and it popped that message up. I even tried redoing my network and that still didn't fix it. So I hope you can find a fix and it might fix my problem too.

My Ethernet PC cannot see the laptop or the wireless PC in Network. Both the laptop and wireless PC can see and share with each other. In short, I can share wireless to wireless, Ethernet to Ethernet, but not Wireless to Ethernet.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I would try resetting the router first as it's clearly a problem with the router.

If that doesn't work please post a screen shot of your ipconfig/all from both a wired and wireless machine and I'll see what's up.

I have a friend's NEC Versa E2000 latop which had a Windows failure. I installed Linux for her but she wishs to return to WinXP. I obtained the disks (containing WinXP and the necessary drivers) for the laptop via the dealer, however when I insert the first disk and boot I get:

"Error 2", then its says
"Exit OEM", then goes to
"C:\>" with blinking cursor.

I assume it's waiting for a command to format then install, but don't know what that might be. I have phoned the company who provided the disks but they are contacting Malaysia (where the disks came from). Just thought the very knowledgeable people here might be able to help.

The Laptop's Svideo definatly works as I use an Svideo - Svideo cable on our big TV in the lounge.

Hi,

New to techguy, I have a Belkin wireless router and a desktop connected via CAT5 and laptop wireless. They can't see each other to connect via a homegroup in Win 10. I have checked the help files for the router and checked Belkin's site, but no info on why this is happening. I have just completed 11 Windows 10 Skilport online certifications and nothing was mentioned in those either other than that a Homegroup is easy to setup.

Thanks in advance for all help!

I recently got a new HP zBook 15 with the slim docking station and am experiencing an issue related to the speaker output. If I plug my external powered Bose speakers into the line out of the docking station I get sound out of both the external Bose speakers and the internal laptop speakers at the same time. In addition the sound from the Bose speakers sounds horrible...tinny and completely lacking any bass. If I plug the Bose speakers into the headphone jack on the side of the laptop (not the docking station) then I get great sound and ONLY the Bose speakers produce sound (which is what I want). Is there a fix to get only the external speakers to play when plugged into the docking station audio out? I've uninstalled and re-installed the Conexent ISST Audio drivers twice...no change. I've tried messing with the B&O Sound Control panel, but it doesn't have any configuration for the audio ports. I've messed around in the Windows Playback devices control panel, but can't seem to find a way to shut off the internal laptop speakers. FYI, this is a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro. All Mircosoft updates installed. All HP updates installed via the HP Support Assistant. Latest laptop BIOS installed. Help! The sound output sounds HORRIBLE through the docking station. There must be a fix.

Hi,

I'm using a Packard Bell laptop, Windows Vista and a Realtek sound card.

I've searched a lot to find how to NOT mute my laptop speakers when I insert something in the audio-out-jack.

The next threads say it's not possible by the hardware:
techspot.com/vb/topic140707.html
techspot.com/vb/topic130170.html
They're closed, so I can't comment on them.

BUT when I dual boot to Ubuntu (using the same hardware), I can easily choose to mute the internal speakers, or the jack, or none at all. So why can't it be possible on Vista?

Answer:Same audio through laptop speakers and external speakers

You answered your own question... It's a software/OS issue. If Vista's Realtek options in the Control Panel don't give you the same options as in Ubuntu, you're out of luck

I have done a search and realize there are several threads here that address this, but I haven't been able to solve this. This is the same laptop that I posted a thread about with the bad power button. Not sure if the two are related, since the two problems seemed to crop up around the same time. Anyway, I've tried HP's troubleshooting, but haven't gotten the speakers to work. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, checked the volume (duh), and attempted to do a system restore. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that system restore had been apparently been disabled for some time, and there were no restore points to choose from. I've googled this of course, and besides the things I've tried, it seems that either the headphone jack switch is stuck or the speakers are dead. Would both speakers give out at the same time? I've tried jiggling/rapidly pulling a headphone plug in and out to dislodge the switch, no dice. Anymore ideas I can try? I've been using external speakers plugged into the headphone jack, but this gets annoying after awhile.

Until recently I was able to unplug my headphones from the front input and my USB speakers would activate. So whenever I wanted to hear my USB satellite speakers that are plugged into a USB port on the back of my HP desktop, I would simply unplug my headphones.

Now, I have to manually go into the speaker panel and select whichever one I want in order for sound to be heard.

If sound is playing through the USB speakers and I set the headphone to default, if I close my Firefox browser and then re-open it, sound will be playing through the headset. Likewise the same in reverse.

I don't know what happened to force me to use the speaker panel to change which one I wanted. Before plugging in the headphones would just override the USB speakers and cancel them.

Any ideas what I may have done?

Answer:Headphones work or USB speakers work but only if I change to default

How does the sound work, if you do not use Firefox. Boot the PC but do not open Firefox. What device is set as default? (should be the USB device). Play a sound file on the PC with a media player (e.g. Windows Media Player) and confirm you are getting sound through the USB device. Then plug in the headphones and see if it automatically switches.

If it isn't working properly, without Firefox, then uninstall/reinstall the sound devices starting with the USB device (Uninstall in the Device Manager, but DO NOT uninstall any drivers, then restart the PC and let Windows reinstall the device).

If it works OK, without Firefox but still does not work correctly with Firefox that makes Firefox or whatever sound add on is being used in Firefox the suspect.

Since you are familiar with the sounds settings in control panel I'm guessing that you have changed the settings under speakers and advanced to 5.1.Try changing the settings to plain stereo and see if the headphones work then.Typically, the headphone jacks are just a mechanical connector with no software control.

Hello, drivers are maintained by Uncle MS in Win 10. Only in special cases - where there is an evident problem and changing the driver solves it- should you update or change the drivers - and if you do so, Uncle MS will fairly quickly replace them unless you take special action (see Tutorial section).

Was there any reason to update your driver?

Now, do you have any useful system restore points? Note: System Restore is off by default in Win 10, so unless you turned it on, you won't.

Could you please complete your system specs? Thanks!

I've recently got the Logitech X-530 Speakers and the problem is that all the front (left, center, right) speakers do not work. I've done the whole diagnostics thing with the software included and when they do the speech thing where they say what speaker it is from that speaker, the voice is redirected to the rear two. Even when it says center, it simulates it by just playing both the rear ones.

I'm sure all the connections are correct and none of the speakers are broken. I've got the Soundblaster Live! 24-Bit sound card. I've also plugged in the black plug into the green and the front left and right speakers would work.

So er, yea, help me? :]

i just recently reformatted my hard drive and noticed that only the front 2 speakers work.. i get no sound from the Center, Sub, and both rear.
i've tried updating drivers and making sure i have it plugged in right. the speakers worked before i reformatted and hadnt moved during the process so they're not broken.

im running on vista 32-bit with an integrated 5.1 soundcard

any help could help

nvm i got it working

I can't seem to find the driver needed to make my sound card work. Please help!

Answer:Speakers won't work!

If you know the make and model of your sound card go to the manufacturer's web site and download the latest drivers there. If you are unsure of the make and model, look in the device manager (R click on My Computer icon > Properties > Harware tab > Device Manager button) and expand (click on + sign) Display adapters and it should be listed there.
If your sound card is just an onboard card not a separate PCI card you should be able to install the drivers from the motherboard driver CD that would have come with your computer. OR you can again find out your motherboard make and model and go to the website to download the drivers.
To find out your motherboard's make and model without opening the case - download Everest Home edition and open it , look in Computer > Summary. This will alow you to see if there is any other soundcard attached too.
Other things to check: simple I know but...
* are the speaker cables in the correct jack?
* are they in firmly
* if they are powered separately are they plugged in properly and turned on?
* have you checked in volume control and/or soundcard control panel that you have them set up for the type of speakers you have (2.1, 5.1, 7.1 etc)

Answer:speakers do not work

Need more information about the computer, like a brand and model number or model of sound card... something...There isn't a general driver for all sound cards, so without this information there's not much we can tell you.

I had to unplugg everything on my computer but when I plugged everything back the speakers do not work. So what can I do to fix the problem? I have a dell demension 4700 with soundblaster. I've reinstalled the software that came with the computer and still I'm not getting anything.

Answer:Speakers don't work

Sounds like a wiring problem. Do your speakers have an AC connection? If so, make sure the AC is plugged in and speakers are on. Also how many speakers do you have in total and do they plug directly to your PC or to an external amp? Giving us the model of your spekers may help.

Yesterday my headphones didn't work. I posted here, and someone suggested that I click Device Manager > Sound > Uninstall. Then reboot my machine, and everything worked. So, yesterday, BOTH the headphones and the regular speakers worked fine. Today, without making any changes whatsoever, my regular speakers don't work, but the headphones work fine. So, I went through the same steps: Device Manager > Sound > Uninstall. Then reboot my machine. it still doesn't work. Any idea what I can try next? This was working perfectly fine yesterday.

Answer:Speakers don't work

Hello, the other day I deleted a few things off my control panel because my computer was to slow. I think that I deleted something I wasn't suppose to because now my speakers wont work. I think I must of deleted the volume control or something? Please help , i've been trying to figure this out for hours. Thank you .

Answer:Speakers will not work.

One of many disasters seen on these forums when folk delete files - definitely best avoided. Deleting files does not speed up computers.Try system restore.to a date/time before you made the deletion and if this fixes your sound. Come back to discuss your slow computer issue if it still continues.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I should not be putting this on this forum, but the thing is i can`t get my speakers to work on my daughters new pc.it is a Packard bell imedia x2424 AI0machine, she has purchased some cheap speakers from Argos but i can`t get them to work. When you play a music cd you can see the bar moving depending on the tone level but nothing conmes out of the spaeakers.I have tried the speakers on my own pc and they work.I have checked in the control panel and it shows that the device is working properley.I have tried everything that is basic, but they still don`t work, i am tempted to take it back to PC world.Has any one got any suggestions ?Many thanks

Answer:Can`t get speakers to work on new pc

Open up the Volume control panel by clicking on the Volume icon in the Taskbar and ensure that all the sliders are at or near maximum and that Mute has not been selected. Then check that nothing is Muted in anything that uses sound (such as Windows Media Player). Also go to Start>Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>General tab to ensure that Mute is not ticked and that Show Volume Icon is Enabled (if you could use it previously it will be); then have a look in the Audio and Voice tabs to check/ensure your Sound Device (on-board or sound card) is set as the Default. You can't check in Control Panel if the device is working properly - this is done in Device Manager (ensure that Use This Device is Enabled in the drop down menu).

Sorry if this has been asked a gazzilion times. I have a dell PC inspiron with windows 10. Logiteck 5.1 speakers that worked fine with windows 8. Now only two speakers work. They are connected in the back with the colored recepticles. I have my turntable connected through the Mic Hole and all speakers work then. But streaming online or playing windows media files or itunes or winamp sound is only coming from two speakers. I deleted the driver and went to the realtech website and downloaded another (maybe the wrong one) and still only two speakers work unless I'm using my turntable.

Answer:only 2 speakers work

There is a setting in the Realtek Sound Manager called "Speaker Fill". This needs to be checked so that sound goes to all the speakers.

I have bought some cheap speakers for my grand daughters pc, she is 6yrs old and happy with any speakers. Her original ones were incorporated in the monitor which no longer works so I replaced it but no speakers in the new one. The ones I have are free standing. They connect to sound card and Usb but no sound. On looking at the spec they are rated 5v, 1Amp which I don't think a usb 2 port can supply.
Any easy ideas please.

I have a Dell Vostro 200. I have suceesfully used a Creative Inspire 2.1 speaker system on it, using the basic sound drivers. I want to use a Cambridge Soundworks Megaworks THX250D but I cant get it to work. Must this have a soundcard or should I be able to get it to work with the standard Windows Driver?

Answer:Can't get speakers to work

Not sure if applicable or not, but are you connecting them correctly? While the speakers support both analogue & digital, the Dell's onboard sound & related outputs are most likely analogue only, so connect the speaker's analogue inputs to it. The manual should tell you how to connect it correctly. Are the speakers powering up? If not see 'No Power from Creative Speakers' click here. Also see Creative's troubleshooting for your speaker click here. G

Hey there,

i cant get my speakers to work... they were working fine the other day but they arent working today, i checked to make sure everything is plugged in and to the right spot, they are powerd and everything. if i plug my ipod into them they work, so it has to be something with my computer. ive gone into the control pannel and everythnig looks like its fine to me so im stumped.

Also, i cant get a connection to the internet... even tho im connected to the internet ( and typing this now), this is what the connectivity icon looks like on my toolbar... im also stumped on this also...

Answer:cant get speakers to work

Do you have the correct/latest sound driver? Does it have its own control center, like Realteks normally Do? do you have a front audio port?

As for your network, It looks like you DO have Internet access, but are not connected to the network, a.k.a. other computers on the network.

(I was going to say why the h**** do you have a picture of the network, you're talking about speakers? Then I read it... )
