What if the FSB of mobo is lower then the CPU FSB

Question: What if the FSB of mobo is lower then the CPU FSB

and similarly whats the result if the FSB of the motherboard is higher than that of the CPU used. When is performance maximum. What if the FSB of both is the same.

Preferred Solution: What if the FSB of mobo is lower then the CPU FSB

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: What if the FSB of mobo is lower then the CPU FSB

If the FSB on the board is slower the CPU will run at that speed...If the CPU speed is higher than the boards it will still run at the boards speed...Ideally of course they should both match but it doesn't happen all the time.

Soltek 75kav/x- max supported cpu speed is 1.5 ghz.

can i test a 1.67ghz on it, ran at a lower speed? i just want to make sure it works...

Answer:cpu test on mobo rated for lower speed

Yes the worst-case scenario is that it will boot up with a Processor error, but at least it will Boot proving that the board is good, however if it doesn't boot then the board may be cooked.

About 1-2 weeks ago, I had 15GB of space left on my SSD that is solely committed to OS and drivers. Today, I have 2.9GB left. I have downloaded nothing, and I have changed nothing. What is going on? Any programs to help me take a closer look at why my SSD space is disappearing? I've had this OS for 2 months now and it wasn't a problem until recently.

Friends: Whenever I open a new Google Chrome window the window opens small and is gradually moving towards the bottom of the screen. Soon it will disappear below the screen. How can I open it to be full screen and stay in the middle the screen? Windows 7. Thanks for any help.

Answer:Google Chrome window gets lower and lower on opening

In the upper right hand corner of the Chrome window are three small boxes, one of them being the X that you probably use to shut the app down. Click on the little square to the left of the X to toggle full screen mode.

A game i was playing's website got infected with some type of malware, and ever since that happened and i was on it, I've been getting popup ads in the lower left and the lower right corners of my screen, no sound or anything. Occasionally i get redirects as well. I ran a malwarebytes quick and full scan and got nothing, a Microsoft security essentials scan and got nothing, and a adwcleaner scan and got nothing. I saw some other people had this problem, even on this website but they used combofix, which i'm not suppose to use unless told to. So yeah, hope you guys can help :3. 'Quick edit, the ads were from ad.yieldmanager, and ad.xtendmedia, if it matters.

Your site helped me on another issue I had in the past.  Oh I tried system restore and it didnt help the screen..I think the only system restore point was after all the above.

Putting together a build for a friend, however, I believe the motherboard may have been damaged or was damaged upon my taking part in the build. I assembled the parts, a 430w thermaltake psu, an asus mobo, e5200 intel processor, western digital hard drive, 2 gigs of GSkill, ati hd 4850 gpu and an LG dvd drive.

Posted, gave an error message about cpu fan error, I google it, it seemed to be relatively harmless. While in the bios the computer's signal disappeared, I attempted a reboot to no avail. No error codes, cpu fan stopped spinning. Removed memory, no error code, removed 4850, no error code, case fan connected to the motherboard spins when powered on, motherboard shows green light, no signal detected,

I tested the processor in another rig, and it worked fine, and the cpu fan spun fine. Tested another power supply with said motherboard and the motherboard fan would not spin and it would not post, and no error codes. Is my motherboard dead? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This problem has the configuration listed in my system specs below, which have just changed recently. My OCZ Vertex 2 died, RMA'ed but sold, and replaced with the Transcend SSD720, 2.5" SATAIII 64GB. Also sold my GPU...

Now, trying to get everything back on track. I reinstalled my OS on the SSD, but I can't for the life of me get the HDMI working. When reinstalling, I knew it was normal for only my Dell CRT to show up via its VGA connection, but then the main ViewSonic HD monitor never came on. I finally realized it wasn't responding to anything. The ViewSonic HD monitor is the only thing plugged in right now, on both VGA & HDMI, but will only work on the VGA. It had been working fine before the OCZ SSD died. No VGA problems. The onboard ATI Radeon HD 4250 is fully updated and all the drivers are installed and updated to the best of my knowledge. There is an update for the BIOS on the ASUS website that I had never installed, ever, but the only change from before was the SSD so that should not matter. I've even made sure I installed the specific driver for the monitor from the disc it came with. I tried playing around in BIOS, and (for once) no matter what graphics device order I set, (i.e., IGPX-PCI-GPX-etc) it always reverted to the mobo's VGA. And obviously, Device Manager is showing no yellow question marks and is generally no help right now...

Hi all,

I have a MSI k7 pro via kt 266a mobo with an athlon xp1600, served me well, however time has moved on.
1/ MSIs website states the max cpu my mobo can take is xp2100 (upgradeing cpu would be cheapest option). Does anyone know any different?

2/ There are some good "bargains" in mobos, as low as 80 bucks Australian, able to take an AMD 64 3200 , based on SIs chipsets. Of the chipsets available, eg, Sis , Via , nforce, are folk noticing any "real world" difference between them.

I occasionally edit and render video-rendering times not a key consideration and occasionally play Lomac and Il2 flight sims. Thats it. Apart from surf the net.

Your input appreciated. Thanks

The above link is to the HP specs for the machine. The mobo is overheating and yes, i've done all the reg maint stuff. Let's call it dead, bury it and buy a new bride. I did upgrade the video and sound last year but those devices should be good for a few more yrs. This pc is strictly for gaming, music and my embroidery machine software.

I have never replaced a motherboard (nor cpu) before though I've done all else. My concern is that in my eagerness to get this girl back up an running, I overshoot and choose a board that won't support the current devices. I'd love to replace the cpu right now too, but w/ 2 bdays and christmas coming, I can't afford it.

So help me, geniuses. What motherboards would support the pos Pentium D 820 (S) DC 2.8 GHz socket 775, but still allow me to celebrate my 42nd birthday with a new cpu (a quad? ohh ahhh) next april? I have searched and searched, and it's probably staring me in the face, but I can't figure out the mobos.

I'm guessing some of these would work, but again, brain doesn't work as well as it should and I just cant figure it out.

Thanks for your help.

I'm upgrading a computer and I'm having difficulties with loading. I am replacing just the mother board, processor chip, and the ram chip. I am re-using the hard drives, cd/dvd drives, and everything else.

I've upgraded from:
an AMD chip to a P4 3.0e w/ HT
an unknown AMD mobo to a DFI PS85-BL ver B1 mobo

I will be using 512 mb ddr 400 pc3200 kingston ram

I already called DFI and they said that I need to unistall the system drivers. Of course, I tried uninstalling all device drivers and then shut down and rebuilt computer. When I booted, the computer asked for safe mode or boot normally. No matter what I select, it automatically reboots.

Any ideas, instructions, or definite fixes?

So which board do you think is better for a new computer build, mostly intended for gaming.

MSI PM8M3-V mobo - Pentium 4 / 3.4GHz [775]
Intel P4 64Bit 3.2Ghz + & LGA775 Via Dual Core Mobo

Basically is it worth losing 200Mhz to get a dual core system?

Answer:Which MB for a new Build, a 3.4 MOBO or 3.2 Dual Core MOBO

Not in my opinion. Most games (and other software) don't take advantage of Duo Core processors of any type, model or speed from what I have experienced with my 1 year old Toshiba Tecra A7 laptop, and what I have read in relation to gaming. :cry
I'm not a gamer. I don't mind being corrected on this, by Duo Core users. Bazza

I have read several posts about issues with this already.

I had an ECS P4M800 Pro-M V 2.0 with a Pentium 4 2.88. I had a primary and secondary hard drive as well as a DVD RW on it. My brother-in-law originally build the computer some years ago. I got the dreaded call the other day, "Honey, the computer won't turn on."

DOA, fried MOBO. I ordered a Biostar A880 G + MOBO with integrated graphics, audio and LAN cards. Popped in an AMD Athlon 2 X 3 3.3G and two DDR 3 2G Ram sticks.

Fired that puppy up on my old hard drive. It ran through some system checks, and nada. I keep getting back to nothing.

I had a system backup set up to run, but the destination drive ended up being full, (without my realizing it) and now I'm up shit creek becuase the drive won't boot. I've got some important business stuff on that drive, which I know I can recover, but I would just like it to get up and run.

I have the install CD and it is a direct from Microsoft CD. Nothing specific to the old MOBO. What to do???? This was supposed to be my swan song. New computer and I was going to be rocking it out! zilcho.... Please help me out.

Answer:MOBO baked. Need to maintain 7 OS and files from HD on new MOBO

Howdy, I'm at my wits end here, and I was hoping one of you could point me in the direction of something else to try.

Working on friend's 2003ish eMachine (ick), because his motherboard chipset heatsink fell off. Used some thermal adhesive to stick the sucker back on, but when i hit the power button, nothing happens. However the motherboard led is on. So I pop in another working PSU that I had laying around, with the same thing happening.

At this point I figure the motherboard got fried, and ordered a no name gateway oem motherboard. I throw it in, and have the exact same issue. I try shorting the power pins to see if it was my power switch, and nada.

It might be that the processor was killed, but wouldn't the psu fan start up in that case? Or I ordered a dud motherboard with the same symptoms?

At this point I'm just not sure what step to take to resolve the problem. Any advice?

Answer:New Mobo LED green, PSU/Mobo fans won't spin

Run the motherboard outside the case with just CPU and memory installed. See if it starts. If not, the CPU could be fried or you have a defective motherboard. I hope you didn't use the old power supply with the replacement motherboard, if you did, you probably fried the 2nd motherboard

I am trying to put together a Server running for my home.

I have a two computers running socket 939 MOBOS and CPUs. I have enough pieces to put together another computer

Graphic card

Besides this old gear I have a special server case and RAID card. I tried to get the computer set up a while back and got errors from the MOBO. I made a half attempt to work it out but do not have the time or patience. I figured I would just buy another inexpensive 939 mobo and get it going. Based on the prices I am seeing for this mobo it has turned into a collectors item and worth more now than when they were cutting edge.

Should I just suck it up and pay $150 for a old MOBO or should I upgrade my home theater PC to a newer MOBO, with new Ram and CPU then take that mobo for the Server? That computer runs fine now with a 3800+ CPU, but a newer socket would allow me options for the future without paying a premium for old school technology. If you suggest a newer MOBO, I would appreciate suggestions on which MOBO and CPU for a Micro ATX case good for a HTPC.

BTW I am on the road more than at home so most of my work is done on a newer laptop.

Answer:Socket 939 Mobo or purchase a newer Mobo

You can do mobo/ 2GB RAM and a X2 AM2 for around $150, I would go that route.

Question: Lower Ghz on CPU

Recently had a complete failure on hdd which meant it had to be replaced. Replaced hdd and re-installed XP and all other things needed. Before failure 'dxdiag' told me that present cpu was at 2.08 ghz. After completing new setup 'dxdiag' tells me system is running at 1.7 ghz. Cpu is AMD K7 Athlon XP 2800+ and mbd is a K7N2 MS-6570 ATX with 400w psu. Can anyone tell me why this has happened and how can I bring it back up to 'speed' or higher? Any helpers out there pls?

Answer:Lower Ghz on CPU

Sounds as if your FSB is running at 133 instead of 166 (166 x 12.5 = 2075) (133 x 12.5 = 1662) check your mobo jumpers if present, or more likely your bios FSB needs to be set, look in your mobo manual for details.Ross

Not sure why your score would change, it should stay the same no matter what version of windows you have installed.

Hey guys, I am building my second system and am just wondering what mobo to get.

I don't full understand the advantages that a 64bit system will bring but I know that a dual processor will do wonders for my work flow (I have a 3D modeller who renders alot). I was just wondering if you know of a dual processor mobo which is also 64bit. That would be the best of both worlds in my opinion.

Any advice you can give would be great.

I have an eMachine desktop that Iam repairing for a friend,
we have come to the conclusion (from experience) that because it is dead
even when trying to turn it on that it has suffered from Capacitor Plague
(Perhaps in the PSU then damaging the MoBo)
A new PSU has been tried and it still doesn't work
WHAT Type of 'cheap' motherboard could I replace the current one with?
it has a Celeron processor so we will be looking to conserve that..
I was looking at this...
or (incase his CPU is socket 478)
will this one be compatible?
My friend just wants a cheap solution...
Ive recommended the new PSU / MoBo and extra RAM (at least another 256Mb to
bring it to 512)

any recommendations would be helpful....

The only number i see on the mobo are N1996. Was hoping that some1 could help figure out what drivers I need and where I might find them. I've done some searching on the web but only find the ones the try to charge you for the drivers and I'm not even sure if there the right ones. Also... Is there anyway to get rid of that MSI logo at the start of the system?Thks in advance for any help.

Answer:Looking for drivers for my mobo...but not sure what kind of mobo i have

Try here.....has a handy dandy tool too.

The HP ProDesk 400 G1 MS motherboard is bad.  It is a MS 7860 v1.2.    It has a special connector for the USB ports on the mobo.   Can somebody recommend a new mobo replacement? Thanks. Darryl

Answer:Replacement Mobo for MS 7860 v1.2 (bad mobo)

Just saw the schematic and the connector is the USB 3.0 mobo connector that combines two USB 3.0 ports.   What do you ask for on a new mobo? Thanks.

Sorry I didnt read the guide of how to make a good post.

I have an Emachine for about 4yrs now. 2 weeks ago I turned it on and it turned right back off, I thought it was the power supply, but it wasnt. I took it to Best Buy, told me it was the motherboard. I dont want to spend money on another mother board since emachine sucks, I already spent $400 last year to get my cd drive fixed. U guys say an ATX motherboard is good and cheap, its way better than an emachine mobo. The problem is I dont know which ATX mobo(a good one) to get for my emachine. My emachine is a W350.

Please respond

Answer:Which ATX mobo should I get to replace with my emachine mobo

The tricky part of this is you will probably have to not only replace the motherboard, but also the power supply, processor and memory

Here's an example:

The power supply is old and you wouldn't want to damage a new motherboard would you. The old memory is DDR. The new board takes DDR2 memory. You may be able to use the old CPU or processor

I purchased an hp laptop and it shows the RAM as 4 GB SODIMM 1333 MHz.The RAM specifications as given on the site are 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.The laptop was given for repair at hp service center because the original RAM was defective according to what hp told me.Is the new RAM same as the previous in terms of specifications ?I am not as good at computer hardware so I'm sorry if you feel the question is very childish.

Answer:RAM frequency is lower than specified

The RAM is likely 1333 able to be 1600 with O.C. My one friend in Mexico had a similar issue with a Core i7 build that was only running at 1333. Maybe this article will help about the XMP configuration in BIOS to get it to 1600. here on HP, not laptop like yours but desktop and the XMP config to get 1600

buying leopard for my mac book and being on a primarily windows network, i noticed something, when you go to the network and get info on a "pc server" the icon it uses is this..

Is it just me, or is that a dam close mock of a BSOD ?
i am not sure if it shows this same icon for other max based system or other *nix based ones, but if anyone else has leopard and could try out, would be nice to know to see if Apple is going to a new low on such a childish level.

Answer:Can apple go any lower?

It certainly uses this icon.

I remember them talking about it being in the betas, but never thought it would make it into the final. It's definately tacky, and strangely outdated, as it's a mock-up of an old Win9x blue screen. Not sure if anyone told Apple but MS hasn't used that format for their blue screens for about seven years.

For revenge and added hilarity, when Vista SP1/XP SP3 come out, they should make the default icon for Mac shares look like a bomb.

Ok, well i am an fps player (mainly counter strike source) and recently i got a new computer and i bought a nvidia 9600gt for it. The performance was going really well for the first few days and i was getting 250+ frames per second (fps) in the video stress test, but recently i have been getting worse game performance and getting even lower than 190 fps average in video stress test, i am with vista and i think it could possibly be a driver problem and im not sure.

Need advice, thanks.

Answer:getting lower FPS than usual!

Have you installed anything new recently (After you installed the card)? Any services that might be running in the background?

Have you run a virus scan? Defragged your harddrive?

After connecting my new laptop to the my 30" tv with an HDMI cord and then removing it later, the resolution was messed up. I received a notification bubble saying that my resolution was at the recommended settings. I went to my screen resolution settings and the slider said it was at 1366x768 ,which is the max on my computer, but below was a warning saying, "Your resolution is lower than 1200x900. Some items might not fit on your screen". If there is any way I can fix this please let me know.

Answer:Your resolution is lower than...

That would be because the Flat Screen you are using is unable to show anything higher. You can verify that information in the manual for your Flat Screen.

I purchased a new Toshiba laptop with Win 8.1. On my old XP Dell, I was able to copy a 699MB folder of music MP3 files to a CD to play in my car. I've done it many times, and have 8 folders on my computer that I frequently copy to CDs for that purpose. In the past, I've copied 700 MB of files to a CD without difficulty, so I learned to maximize the number of files by storing the data in groups of 699 MB to avoid overloading a disk.

I tried to copy those folders to a CD using the new Win 8.1 machine, and have discovered that the CD capacity is only about 696 MB. I'm using the same CDs, and attempting to copy the same files. The only difference is the operating system and the new hardware. When I contacted Toshiba, the tech said Windows 8.1 stores files differently on CDs and the capacity is about 2MB less than on older machines.

Can this possibly be true?!? Is this a Windows 8.1 problem, or a hardware problem? Do I need to use my older XP computer to maximize the number of files I can store on a CD? Can anyone explain what's happening? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Answer:Lower CD Capacity on Win 8.1?

If you want to maximise your file storage I suggest you use your old computer however you could buy a bigger size disc and store the music from your new computer. Your choice!

if you have any tips on how to lower Memory use i would love to know.

Answer:How do i lower my memory

Hello hariza,

It sounds like you may have a few programs running in the background. There is a way to check that so what were going to do is:

Start search > type msconfig > hit enter > accept the UAC prompt > browse to the 'startup' tab and post back what runs at start-up please

More than likely there is some programs that don't need to run at start-up -- not only will this improve boot times, it will also lower memory consumption at idle.

I've read about a registry hack for 7, but it doesn't work in 8.1, so I guess it also wouldn't work in 10.

Answer:How to make lower DPI, than 96 (100%)

Go to Control Panel\Appearance and Personalisation\Display in control panel. Now tick the Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays. A new option appears called Custom sizing options, click on that and you should be able to specify an amount in the edit box.

My headphones are mega loud for some reason. Right now 0 is the best volume setting lol. In XP there was a wave multiplier in the volume mixer that I used to fix that, but I don't see that in Vista. And it was annoying, because I had to change that every time I restarted. Is there a multiplier in some config file somewhere I can change to fix this permanently or something? Thanks

Answer:How can I lower the volume more?

Right-Click your task bar
Click Properties
Click "Notification Area" tab
Checkmark "Volume"
Click "OK" button

Your volume control should present itself as an icon next to the system clock

Clicking on it will present you with the master volume control, clicking on mixer will allow you to select the volume for individual applications

If it's still too loud you could go into the control panel and go to SOUND and tweak the settings there.

If all else fails they do sell some headphone with volume control built in and you can control it that way

Hello!I tried in different ways to lower the screen brightness both with fn keys and in power managment. Also I tried with few third-party-apps.Same problem with Win7 and Win8.I tried with original drivers and with upated one's.When I am using my computer in dark it's a very difficult experience for the eyes.Thank you...Tom

Answer:AO D-270: Can't lower the brightness

You should be able to adjust the brightness by holding the FN key and pressing the right and left arrow key, as stated in your thread. Also, as you stated, there is an option to adjust the brightness in the power options screen.
If those settings, when used, do not alter the brightness of the display, it sounds like something was installed, removed, or changed that is preventing it. When did this issue start occurring, after something was updated or removed?
If it just started happening recently, you can preform a system restore and take the system back to when it worked right and go forward from there. If needed, you can reload the system to factory defaults to ensure it works properly. Some users do remove certain preloaded programs that interact with other functions on the computer and features stop working correctly, but adjusting the brightness in the power options screen is something built in to Windows itself.

on my old setup, which was really just the same comp, minus a vid card, stick of ram and a new PS, i had awesome framerates in Source based games, and I could run bf2142 on high. i had an xfx 7600gt 256 xxx then, with only 1gig of pc5400 ram. then i went out and bought an 8800 gts 320mb when they first came out, and another stick of ram... and of course, a new power supply... but thing is, I get WORSE fps in Source games now (ie. tf2, day of defeat source) and can't even play 2142 on medium! i've reformmated loads of times since the upgrade(not to fix it, just to clean er out now and then) and tried a hundred different drivers.

is it my cpu? maybe still the power supply isn't big enough? it's a 500w ps. certainly wouldn't hurt to upgrade it further, but, i don't want to go spend money if i don't have to.

Answer:upgrade but lower fps?

Check the amps available on the PSU for the 12v rail. You will need about 26A (check your card for exact aount), but a 500 should be big enough.
As you have reformatted, have you got the mobo chipset drivers and nvidia drivers for the 800 instaled? sounds like one of these is most likely the problem

I have been having pop up problems in both Google chrome and ie7 for the past couple of weeks and cannot seem to get rid of them.  I run avast on my computer and a full scan does not find anything, I also was told to try registry mechanic and while that seemed to find a lot of problems, it did not solve the pop up issue.
This is my first time using these forums and unfortunately I am not all that computer savy so if you could gently walk me through a fix I would greatly appreciate it .
I read through the preparation guide and ran the DDS.  Hopefully this is what I was suppose to copy and paste.

I desperately need help.

I bought a HP netbook a few months ago. It has NO CD drive, and the place I bought it installed all the programs, including Windows XP as the operating system.

I?ve used it without any problems for the past few months, as it is not even six month old. I worked on stuff today, and then shut down the netbook to take a break. When I booted it back up, all of the icons were GONE and the lower nav bar GONE!

There was only the blue screen you get with windows XP, and the cursor. When I click the cursor right or left, nothing happens. I can only move the cursor around.

I really depend on this netbook to make money, and I don?t have any money to take it in for repairs. I'm completely broke.

Please, please help me. Thanks

Answer:Icons and lower nav GONE!

I posted this on a Counter Strike board but since it's happening in other games as well I figured it is most likely a general hardware issue.

My specs are:
AMD Athlon XP 2500+
Geforce 6600GT

I used to have a Geforce 4 MX440 until about a month ago, when I got a 6600GT. My FPS was awesome for about two weeks, pretty much 100 constant. I've been having mouse/keyboard lag in CS since I got the card and started fixing it by setting hl.exe priority to low (A known issue in Counter Strike and the most common workaround for it). A few nights ago I started noticing lower FPS, to the point where now I get 50 in a big area and I don't even get 100 when I'm staring at the floor. Changing the CPU priority back to normal hasn't fixed this.

Any ideas about how this could have come about or how to fix it?

Answer:FPS much lower in games than it used to be

I've been looking at RAM and am unsure which would be better:

1. Buying 3GB of PC3200 RAM with a CAS Latency of 3.0
2. Buying 2GB of PC3200 RAM with a CAS Latency of 2.0

I've been looking at RAM on Newegg and found 1GB sticks with 3.0 latency to be around $80, where as the 2GBs of 2.0 (split into 1GB sticks) is $240 which led me to think that I could get more RAM for the same price with a higher CAS latency.

What would be more important and why?

Thanks heaps in advance.

*BTW, the RAM is going to be used in extensivly in Photoshop and other Adobe products that seem to be rather RAM hungry, in my experience. (And maybe some gaming, too.) That may be something to consider as well when you answer.

Hi everyone, I've just bought a 19'' TFT/LCD monitor for my Pc. It has the resolution of 1280 x 1024. This is my first Lcd and I didn't pay much attention on the fact that the resolution is too high. So after I changed the display to fit the new monitor, everything on the screen is now painfully small. If I adjust the resolution lower than 1280 x 1024, the text would appear not as smooth as on my old CRT. Is there anyway I can make the screen look bigger without that problem because I miss those big fat 800 x 600 texts and pictures.

Answer:lower lcd resolution???

Ok, here is my problem, I recently replaced my modem through comcast. The old one finally died after 3 years. The issue I am having is that my download speed has decreased drastically since I installed the new modem. I have a belkin n+ router f5d8235-4 v3 is the model. I have a pc, a laptop and an xbox360 on my network. The pc, and laptop are both wireless and the xbox is wired. Before I replaced my modem my speedtest would be 9-10Mb down, and 2-4Mb up with 20ms ping. Now, the test shows 2.13Mb down and 2.15Mb up with 24ms ping. I know that the router divides the bandwidth between the devices on the network, however, I had the same three devices on the network before I replaced the modem and got way better test results....I play online shooters on my 360 and Call of duty BO has a bandwidth reading. My NAT is open, and my bandwidth is at 1,865kbs right now, as opposed to 10,000kbs before I replaced the modem. I just want to know what I can do to get my inet back to the way it was before. Thanks in advance, Brandon

Answer:why is my bandwidth much lower now??

Reset your router to default, try playing with the config's, or simply buy a new router, some routers are built better then others and handle different speeds better. Good luck!

Question: Lower FPS rates

My gaming laptop, yesterday (or two days ago), started having lower FPS rates. When I check FPS rates it is at 300, then drops to 200 in open areas, sometimes to 150, and occasionally it drops to 70 or 80 for a few seconds. When the drops happen I can see that something is wrong.

Before my games ran smoothly now you can feel that something is unnatural about them even though the games still run. I had an FPS issue before where my game was running at only 30 FPS through out and I solved it by realizing that my ac-adapter was set to minimum power usage. Now it is a different issue and I have no idea what is causing it. I went to Dell website and downloaded latest update for my graphics card but still no progress.

An error report from my computer gave me the following today. I cannot help but wonder that perhaps this is the issue behind the problem.

After a bit of help, i'm writing an essay to do with Data Rates and Throughput, now i understand that in things like 54Mbps WiFi the Throughput is approx 30Mbps but i want to know why? What happens to the other 24Mbps? What causes it to be as low as it is?

Any Info would be really usfull

Answer:Why is Throughput lower

Well in a 54g wireless connection, thats a perfect conditions data rate, very likely your late of reaching that is because of a lack of perfect conditions, ie wireless noise/distance. Heres a wiki link that might help.

today I thought that I haven't updated my WEI some time and ran the assessment. Now all of a sudden my processor's rating dropped from 7.7 to 7.6.
Is that normal that it drops for some strange reason or what might be causing this?

Answer:CPU WEI rating getting lower?

I would not worry about it. That is within the rounding accuracy. And the WEI does not mean much anyhow. It is just a number.

I want to know why the head brick at Mickysoft screwed this up. Every one knows when you load files up to a web site EVERYTHING is in lower case ( extensions), otherwise you can spend all day trying to figure out why your images are not loading. My only cure so far was to batch ren *.JPG to *.jpg in a temp file folder from "Command"This is a pain in the butt. some one please help or explain ? ( sorry this is totally frustrating and time wasting). Non the sign in is totally ridicules I had to try 9 times because humans can not read the secret code.

Answer:W7 lists .jpg as .JPG needs to be in lower c

I'm not sure that it's an OS issue. There are a number of default pictures in my Win7-64 installation that have lowercase JPEG extensions (.jpg). From the naming convention that I see in saintcroix's posts, it appears to be camera naming convention, so it may be relative to the camera OS, or (just speculating because I don't have a media card handy to test) the media card design. I suspect that once they come across as .JPG, then changing them to .jpg in the same folder appears to Win7 as essentially no change, so they maintain the original file name in the file system, and the "change" is only an OS UI convention in the file system metadata rather than a real change. I do know that Windows file systems are not case sensitive, and as a result, either upper or lowercase equal the same name. However, many web sites are hosted on UNIX or Linux OSs, whose file systems are almost always case sensitive, making the two different. When copied to a website, where the underlying OS/file system between posting computer and web server may or may not be the same, the file resumes its original name for "lowest common denominator" reasons between what may or may not be different file systems. The upload function would likely try to abstract any differences by taking only those "relatively absolute" file attributes, hence the original file name.So after all that long winded speculation, my suggestion would be to try copying to a new folder like this:c:\picturefolder> copy c:\picturefol... I have R7 260X 2GB OC from MSI and the card is old maybe 3 months or so. Now everything is fine with it but I noticed that my Mem. clock speed on GPU-Z is 1250MHz and core clock is 1050MHz while everywhere on the internet I see Mem. clock 1650Mhz and core clock 1150MHz. Just google it and you'll see that every 260x has higher clocks than mine. Since it's OC it should be even higher than stock what's up with this?

Answer:My GPU clocks are lower than others

Have you tried getting something like GPU Tweak( Or using AMD overdrive to overclock it back to stock speeds. A reason that the GPU's "stock" speed is lower than others is because you CANNOT make a exact clone of a GPU/CPU from silicon there are a few variables that come in to play. And the card may underclock its self so that its "safe".
Hope this helps.

Question: No Lower Toolbar??

My friend has winxp that has no toolbar at the bottom.I assume it not in autohide because when she scrolls the mouse down she gets nothing.Has to shut down using keyboard.Any thoughts

Answer:No Lower Toolbar??

well, it's possible that she accidentally moved it to the side(s) or top of the screen? but, i would think you would see the edge/border, unless it's on autohide. you could try changing the settings for your screen (on the monitor itself) to make sure it's centered (or not), or reduce screen size, and check around the edges for it? - sos

Hi -I hope I am putting this in the right place.  I am running Windows 7 and IE 9.When I am typing in WordPad the first line is at the top of the page.  After I type several lines I decide I need to type a line above the first line.  I can not move  down what I have typed so that I can type in another line.  Is there a way to move the typed lines down from the top?    Thanks      Bob

Answer:How can I lower what I am typeing?

Have I understood you correctly? If you place your cursor before the first letter on the first line and press the [Enter] key, it will move the text down by one line space. If you press [Enter] twice, the text will move down by two lines. You will then have space above that section of text to type in another sentence.High1

My audio jack recently broke, so I'm using a USB "sound card", which basically converts a USB port into an audio jack. Everything's working just fine, the problem is that it is way too loud. I'm using a pair of ear buds and VLC media player to play my music, and both are set to 1%, but the music is still much too loud. When I set both to max, I can literally use my ear buds as an external speaker. I would like some sort of way to decrease my audio output by like 99%, because it's just about 100 times too loud.

Answer:How to lower the audio below 1, but above 0

You cant. Simple.
try making windows default volume to 1% and then vlc volume to 1% too, see what happens

I am now on Windows 7 Build 7201 and while I've been updating it so it fits what I want such and programs and all that I realised I had to update Realtek. Well, I did and I got the version that works for Windows 7 and its basically the same as I had for Vista really. What I'm actually confused about my speakers don't max out to what they used to do on Vista, I know my speakers aren't damaged in anyway so I'm obviously blaming either the drivers or the OS. I max everything out as possible to see how loud it goes compared to what it did on Vista and its not exactly as loud. Can anyone tell me why its like this and if there's a solution around this.

Thank you for any help.

Answer:Sound lower than what it used to be

What other things have you tried? Have you tried hitting up the sound icon in the control panel and checking out the settings? Do you have your microphone connected and is it running as well at the same time you are trying to say listen to music because it could be that if your mic is one for some reason, there is a setting in windows that will lower the audio volume to allow for clearer conversations through the microphone.

Is there a realtek audio control panel? Have you tried playing around with the settings in there? Let me know if that idd not help at all and I will try again

I recently up-graded my cpu from a Q8200 to a Q9400, before the up-grade my WEI for the CPU was 7.3 but with the new Q9400 im getting 7.1, yes it?s a lower number.

After looking around at other peoples scores It seems that my old Q8200 was a fast one and my new Q9400 is a slow one.

Would anyone like to comment.

Why would a chip running 300mhz faster and with more cache give a lower WEI reading?

Answer:Faster CPU = Lower WEI

It could very well be the processor itself. Try as they might to be consistent, there is always going to be variance in processors of the same model, even if we were to use two processors from the same production run. It's plausible that you indeed had a Q8200 that could handle more calculations per second than your current Q9400. Regardless, I wouldn't read too much into the WEI scores, as they are not a reliable indicator of real world performance.

CPU Utilization:Processor utilization is high
The average processor utilization during the trace was high. The system will consume less power when the average processor utilization is very low. Review processor utilization for individual processes to determine which applications and services contribute the most to total processor utilization.
Average Utilization (%) 5.36

i ran an energy report ( through elevated command prompt) and this came up high, is there any way i can adjust this? im runnin w7 home premium on a laptop, i think if i adjust this it might affect my battery life in a good way that is

Answer:help:need to lower CPU Utilization

The best way to reduce CPU utilization is identify the most resource-intensive programs. Get rid of anything you don't use. Security programs are usually pretty high up there. I recommend using Microsoft Security Essentials, as it is pretty lightweight.

Hey guys I have Nvidia 7900's in my M9700. One card is running at 76C and the other at 84C. I'm wondering what I need to do to lower the temps, and what exactly would that do for me?
The Fix: So I don't know why it happens, but if I make my laptop hibernate and then turn it back on it works properly with no lag. That's all I do haha. Now my cards are running at 70C and 78C. Meh, it works though.

Answer:how to lower gpu temp

Maybe you have dust in laptop. It will be good to clean it. If you can't do that, contact some who's working that.
Also it will be good to have a cooler on your laptop. If you already don't have, you may look at this. It's from CM and is pretty good.

I've noticed a decreased performance of my hdd (seagate barracuda 7200.11 500GB Firmware SD1A) in windows 7, extracting and copying files takes longer than in vista. I'm assuming it is a win 7 /driver problem since yesterday it was running fine on vista. Also it is a lot quieter. I have installed the latest intel_inf without succes. Problem solved. The intel infinst update utility just seemed to install drivers. When i checked in device manager, windows was still using the old drivers so i had to update them manually.

On a good many browser pages I get pop-ups in the lower right corner of the screen. Frequently it says "PLAY NOW" and "DOWNLOAD". If I were to click on the "PLAY NOW" I would get a redirect to... < > Of course I have not done that. Other times the pop-up resembles an IPhone or I get a smaller "double" pop-up (first one appears then is quickly followed by another that slides over the first). I can then close (X) the top one exposing the lower one... but I cannot close it. These double pop-ups are usually topic advertising. Please help.

Question: IE lower toolbar

Yeah, I know this is petty little question. When I first go on line, in the right side of my IE toolbar (bottom of the screen), the word "internet" appears indicating that I'm on the internet. About 3-4 months ago, the words "unknown zone" started appearing when I'd first go online or switch sites and after a few seconds, that changes to "internet". Exactly what does "unknown zone" indicate?

I purchased an hp laptop and it shows the RAM as 4 GB SODIMM 1333 MHz.
The RAM specifications as given on the site are 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.
The laptop was given for repair at hp service center because the original RAM was defective according to what hp told me.

Is the new RAM same as the previous in terms of specifications ?
I am not as good at computer hardware so I'm sorry if you feel the question is very childish.

So I'm having a problem. I'm using Google Chrome and esp. when I'm on FB playing games etc. it's very slow, loading takes a while when I move my cursor around it takes a while to actually get to the place where I moved it, and the game skips a lot, another problem that I'm having is when I'm browsing the internet, all of my tabs pop out and go into new windows..without me doing anything! this happens every time, all the time! and I keep getting pop ups from Chrome saying my flash player is unresponsive..
Also, when I go to Task Manager, and under processes.. I have like 10 "chrome.exe" that normal?
I don't know why I have so many..every time I open Google Chrome and look into processes there's always about 10 of them..more or less. and I only have one Google Chrome opened.

I heard that if CPU usage is can cause these problems, things not loading/are slow/and are skipping/crashing.. etc..but I don't know for sure that CPU is the's hard to tell but I am having a lot of similar issues.

Is there anything I can do?

I tried other browsers but IE crashes on me nonstop and FF doesn't load at all..when I'm on FB it takes half an hour to load a game...

Answer:Is there any way to lower CPU usage..? ++

UPDATE*** I just realized that my laptop's power plan was set to "power saver" from last time I disconnected it, and forgot to set it back..I always had it set to "balanced", but is it ok if I set it to "high performance"? or will that cause problems..?
So..everything seems to be running game anyway.

but still wondering about the 10 processes that Chrome has in task manager and..if there is a way to lower CPU possibly and how my tabs are always popping out of Chrome into new windows..
for now my game seems to be running smoothly..but will keep an eye on everything.

I replaced the mobo on my Dell 5510. Purchased from Dell. Sticker on mobo says BIOS ver A05. About every other day I get blue screen and physical dump of memory. My system info says my BIOS ver is A07. How do I go about changing BIOS? Is it as simple as pulling battery for 15 seconds? Some have offered this suggestion but I get a little worried at "friends" advice.

Answer:Replaced MOBO on Dell 5510 BIOS sticker on MOBO says A05, system in still has BIOS of A07

Removing the battery won't change the BIOS version. You need to download the version you require from the Dell site. From Windows you "flash" the BIOS. Take your time preparing for this. If anything goes wrong you will wreck your motherboard.

I've noticed an odd issue with using headphones with my laptop. The laptop is a Dell Inspiron and is about 4-5 years old. I can't say for sure when this problem started, but I feel like it's been slowly getting worse. The volume overall seems kind of low, to the point where it must always be at maximum volume to really be heard properly. The problem, however, is that when I plug in headphones the volume actually decreases.

I've tried this with two different pairs of headphones. One is a regular pair being plugged in through the headphone jack, the other is a USB headset. Both pairs have significantly lower sound than if there were no headphones plugged in at all. I feel like maybe the USB Headset has even lower volume than the regular headphones, but I may just be imaging that. Both of these headphones are fairly new.

Here are pictures for example. I've opened up a video file, here is the volume of that video with no headphones plugged in:
Here is the sound for that same exact video, but with my headphones plugged in:
Some additional information I discovered while trying to fix the problem myself is that adjusting the volume of the headphones themselves does nothing. When I go to "Manage Audio Devices" in my control panel, I see both my speakers and headphones as active, and the sound seems to be coming out of the speakers, as the green bar next the speakers increases with sound as opposed to the headphones the sound is actually coming out of. Lowering the vol... Read more

Answer:Headphones cause the sound to lower

Hi rabbit,

Since you are experiencing 'audio issues' while using the 'headphone jack' & the 'USB headphone', a 'hardware malfunction' is very unlikely.

Would like to know if you've tried re-installing the 'audio drivers'. If not, please try re-installing the 'audio' to see if that helps. (Updating the drivers may not be good enough)

To re-install the drivers, please follow these steps:
- Click 'Start icon' > Type 'devmgmt.msc' (without quotations) in 'Search Programs and Files' > Click 'Search Result' to open the 'Device Manager' page > Expand 'Sound, Video & Game Controllers' > Right click and uninstall the 'Audio device' > Also remove the driver software, if prompted > Follow through with the uninstall process to finish the removal and allow the system to restart.
- Click How to Use the Drivers and Downloads Website and follow the steps listed (number 4) to download and install fresh 'audio drivers' for the unit.

Hope this helps. Do reply with the findings.

With Vista x64 I was using 4gb RAM,, 2 x 1gb 667 and 2 x 1gb 800,,, and had an index score of 5.6....,,,

I recently changed the 2 x 1gb 667 with 2 x2gb 800 however my index score has dropped to 5.0,,, can anyone help with an explanation please

Answer:More RAM lower index score

Hi JamesT.......

the explanation is the system defaulted ALL sticks to 667mhz with tighter timings with the mixed DIMMs, when you changed the 667 sticks to 800s the timings were loosened.

so your RAM was faster with the lower frequency (according to the WEI)

My headphones are too good and i dont have any other ones so they can be REALLY loud even on 1 out of 100 sound.

So is there a way or a program that can lower the volume more than windows 7 allows.

Answer:PC How can i lower my sound even more than 1 without muting it (W7)

you should be able to lower the volume even more by clicking on the audio icon on the notification bar and selecting mixer, lowing the volume of the particular application will silence things more, it's a little bit of a pain when using full screen applications and games but still, it does the job.

alright so i have GTA IV but because its such a monster my AMD athlon duel core is not powerful enough. but because it puts texture quality in based on my video card (nvidia 9800 GT overclocked), it puts my quality on medium i would like it on low to stop the constant lag i am getting. but when i do the logical thing and go into, graphics and click on texture quallity it just flashed "high" and goes back to medium, any ideas?

BTW i did a search on this all of em just wanted pepl to run it higher not lower so its a different thing

Answer:how do i lower texture quality on GTA IV

You could have your game options on automatic detect, so the computer decides what graphics the game gets rather than you.

The other thing it could be is that the texture is dependant on the other options. I know that in Company of Heroes, certain settings can only be downgraded when other settings have been downgraded. If you try putting everything on low, then putting texture on low, then it should work.
