Cd door not opening

Question: Cd door not opening

What could be wrong with my CDRW drive? I push the open button and nothing happens, except you can hear it try to open and the light flashes. So, I open it thru the emergency hold in the front. Once I get a disk in it .. it acts normal. It will open and close as normal. Take the disk out and the door locks.

Preferred Solution: Cd door not opening

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Cd door not opening

I have the same issue from my CD Drive also.I was wondering. How old is the CD Drive? When was the last time you used it?I haven't excatly pinpointed where the issue is comming from but it seems like my CD Drive get stuck comming out if I rarely use it. I try to clean the dust out everyday but it seems like more grow on it.You have an emergency door open that sounds cool. I have to move my CD Drive left and rightor up and down ( the door) untill it gets unstuck and ejects. The funny thing is once a CD is in everything works fine untill it settles again.

It could very well be part of a sound scheme in your sound properties found in the control panel. Have you checked this?

Our dvd, c.d. drive door will not open? Do i have to pop off the cover and look at the drive and see if it is dirty?

Answer:DvD, CD door not opening

Could just be jammed. You'll see a TINY hole somewhere on the faceplate of the drive. Open up a paperclip, and stick it in the hole. You'll be pushing against a gear, not a release latch. So push it in good. When you get the drawer open a bit, you can grab it, and pull it open with your hand. Then try closing and opening it with the button.

My daughter called and said the door on her cd/rw drive keeps opening and closing. She lives 100 miles from me so I have to work by phone. Is this a unit failure or a software problem? She has win 98se and the unit is a Phillips cd/rw.

I am trying to get information together to build her another pc. Should I have her just disconnect this unit, till I get a new computer built?

Thanks!

I have a 4 year old external CD RW drive and the door won't open. I tried the paper clip trick without success. Is there a special technique when using "the clip"? I only paid $125 for it, so it may not be worth taking it into the electronic hospital. Plextor PX-W4824TU

Answer:Cd drive door not opening

Push the paper clip in until you feel a resistance then gently push.
Some trays just pop open others once released have to be pulled open.
Plextor is a good make so don't give up on it just yet

Question: Back door to XP?

Is there a backdoor to XP? Someone told me, that they were told there is a 'backdoor' to Windows XP, even though your user account is password protected. And that your files, folders, documents etc. could be deleted, viewed or modified should they do so.Now, I'm quite computer literate, and I never heard of this till now. I know for a fact it was possible with Windows 98, but never XP.

Answer:Back door to XP?

Are you refereing to the Administrator account? If you did not set a password for this during installation then anyone could fire the machine up and access the computer.

In setting up ZoneAlarm, how should I respond to the following and what are their functions?

1. Do you want Insight Manager LC Remote Management to access the internet?

2. Do you want Generic Host Process for Win 32 Services to access the internet?

3. Do you want to allow Internet Server Identification Utility to access the internet? (Only showed up one time.)

4. Do you want to allow RealPlayer to access the internet?

5. Do you want Generic Host Process for Win 32 Services to act as a server?

6. Do you want Compaq DMI Web Management Service to act as a server?

7. Do you want WIN 32 SL to act as a server? (Showed up once or twice.)

8. Do you want to allow Run a DLL as an App to access the internet? (This happened only once.)

What do they mean by "server"?

Those times when I say "no" to all, I find I cannot access e-mail (get message that server cannot be found) or internet sites through my I.E. 6 Explorer as a message appears stating that the page cannot be found.

When I recently upgraded to MS Windows XP Pro, I started getting all these questions, so would appreciate any and all help on this.

Answer:ZoneAlarm-Who should I let in the door?

The best thing to do really is to go Start> Programs> Zone Alarm Labs and from the drop down menu select Tutorial.

This will walk you thru a basic set up of each and every Z/A function it helps to have the screen shots they provide in there along with a sumarized explanation of each setting.
"What do they mean by "server"? "

Programs can play the role of a server, listening for "incoming" connections from the Internet. There is a column that gives you the choice to stop server behavior for each program if you think it would be wise.
ZoneAlarm can request your permission each time, or you can allow or deny server behavior to each program....

Question: DVD door jammed

I have an NEC internal DVD reader on which the door is jammed.

I've read the 2 other threads about this problem and their solution isn't working for me.

What I've done: with the power on, 1) inserted paper-clip in the pin-hole, 2) got the door to open about 1/4", 3) pulled on the door by hand and with pliers. The door will not budge.

Answer:DVD door jammed

I don't know if this will work, but considering you've already resorted to pliers I don't think it could hurt anything to turn off the computer and take out the drive and see if you can get anything stuck inside loose.

No, this thread was not what you thought pervert.

I always hear there is a back door into your system in case you become locked out and was wondering how to make this possible. I am almost very sure I will never forget my admin password to my XP machine but just in case, is there a way to set up a back door?

My Windows XP Pro machine only has one user and guest account is disabled. When I login to my machine, I login as "Administrator".

Thanks for any info.

Answer:Going in the back door.

There's a SAM file thing you can do, but I think that's skirting the gray area of what we can talk about here.

There are programs like ERDCommander that allow you change a password if it was forgotten though.

Here's one for the Lenovo folks.  How about molding a nice rubber replacement "door" for the SDHC slot.  Mold it so that it can be closed when the SDHC is inserted. I leave one inserted so that I can use ReadyBoost.  As such the door is always open.  As indicated in other posts, some have removed the as-shipped-with door.  I have not done so yet.  I am tempted to machine a SDHC slot in the door so that it can close and fit over the SDHC.  That said it is so small I could see easily messing up cutting the slot. Just a thought.  Let me know if you need my address to ship the new door  Nick

Answer:CD Rom door opens by itself

I have seen a problem like this before. Once was on a dell GX1 where the cover pushed back on the front of the CDROM hard enough to activate the open/close switch. It was fixed by moving the CDROM back from the cover. You may have this or just a defective switch. I have also seem this caused by a virus. Try disconnecting the data cable and booting into safe or msdos mode and see if the drive door still opens by itself. If it does your problem is with your drive not software. BOL

Question: Back Door Agent

My son's computer is a mess and I am trying to clean it up. He has Windows 2000 and didn't do a good job keeping his virus software updated. I have gotten rid of everything but this Back Door agent.

I read that you could rename, drag it to the desktop, boot in safe mode and delete it. I can get the computer to boot in safe mode. I know the home page has been hijacked, but I can mess with it and get it back to google.

I don't know what to do. I can't get to any sites that have removal tools. When I search it goes back to a hijacked search page. When I run AVG, it calls it BackDoorAgent.B, but I can't get to the removal tool.

I thought about starting over, but I dont really want to reformat, etc... I need help, I have spent too much time on this and he is not happy without his computer.

Thanks.

Hi all
Just joined you, in hope my problem can be helped.
My dvd/cd rom drive door will not open when I want to insert a disc. The only way I can open it is to go into my computer and click on eject. Then the door will open
We had to have a new hard drive put in last October due to a multitude of problems. To be honest, things haven't been quite right since then. But many I have corrected by either looking on here, microsoft, Dell and other such sites.
But the past couple of weeks various things seem to be happening. a variety of errors, frequency of the blue screen, Crashing and goodness knows what else.
For now though, I will just stick to the dvd/cd drive problem.
If anyone has any suggestions, I will be truly grateful.

I have dell computer almost 3 and a half years old.
Running windows me.

Many thanks

Hi All,

I know this unit is old but figured its worth a shot here.

I have a netbotz 310 that is having door alarm issues. I have the unit set to alert me when the door is open for less then 0 seconds. But it's not. If i hold the door open for what seams like 4+ seconds, the alert is generated.

Any idea what is going on here?

A new version of Hijack This has been released so get rid of the old one and
download from this site http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/downloads.htm
Go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall New.Net (NewDotNet). If that doesn't work do the this:

First Click here to download LspFix http://cexx.org/lspfix.htm
You may not need it, but go ahead and download it just in case.
Now go here http://www.newdotnet.com

and scroll to the bottom of the page to Precedure 4 and download and run the New.Net uninstaller.

If you lose your internet connection after running the New.Net uninstaller, Run LspFix, and click Finish. (Don't do anything else)

That should restore the internet connection.

Download and unzip or install these programs/applications if you haven't already got them. If you have them, then make sure they are updated and configured as described
Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de
Download Adaware SE http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
Run Sybot S&D

After installing, first press Online, press search for updates, then tick the updates it finds, then press download updates. Beside the download button is a little down pointed arrow, select one of the servers listed. If it doesn't work or you get an error message then try a different server

Next, close all Internet Explorer and OE windows, press 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds that is marked in RED.

then reboot &

Hey Everyone,

I feel like I haven't been here in ages, and I guess that's true..!

Anyway, I was wondering, my computer, (WinXP), keeps making exceptionally random door noises, often a door shutting, and then one opening, and I have no idea what it is!?

Hope someone can give me a quick answer, because I'm sure it's something really stupid, it makes me laugh to think I'm having to ask this!

Anyway, hope you're well,

Charlie -

Hey all. Got an interesting problem that started about a week ago, under XP Home Edition 5.1 (With security updates. Hah!).

After going online for a while, my task manager will show my CPU processing spiking to 100%, locking up everything internet-related. (Task manager says SVCHOST.EXE is the culprit) However, once disconnected and everything is back under control, I check in my System32 folder to find that ftp.exe has been accessed and I have one or two TFTP files in there as well.

AdAware, Spybot, and TrojanHunter all come up negative, and I can't even delete or rename ftp.exe because a new copy gets automatically restored in my System32 folder within seconds. Looking into Services.msc when it happens, but it doesn't even show me the FTP program listed.

Looking into firewall software, but in the meantime has anyone seen or heard of this happening lately? I thought it was a Sasser, but I keep coming up clean.

Thanks for your time

Hello Blindpew and Welcome to TSG!

Download SpywareBlaster from here:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=2859&file=11&evp=61b0e8ad41924a03c37615f4682b4cef

Install and run SpywareBlaster. Click on "Updates" and then choose "Check for updates". Next choose "Protection" and at the top you will see different tabs which are Internet Explorer, Restricted sites and Mozilla/Firefox. Choose one of them at a time and at the bottom click "Protect Against Checked Items" (make sure that all of the items are checked). Tick the boxes above the items. Make sure you do this for all of the top tabs. Mozilla/Firefox you only need to do if you have the user profiles on your computer. You may now exit out of SpywareBlaster.

Download the latest updates for both Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D and run them both.

Restart your computer.

Download HijackThis from here:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=3155&file=11&evp=3304750663b552982a8baee6434cfc13

Hey all,

I'm sure hoping someone else somewhere would've had this problem as well, and I hope someone has developed a fix for it. In Medal of Honor: Breakthrough, there is a glitch that occurs whenever I go up to a door. It opens by itself, and shimmies back and forth randomly. Sometimes it won't even let me through. When I back away from the door, it stops, but starts again when I move closer. I am running the latest patch (2.40 I think). Any ideas?

About an hour ago, in the middle of things my PC (win 10 pro 64-bit, HP Elite 8000) totally froze and I had to turn it off.
After re-booting, no icon on the desktop works anymore, not a single one. I have rebooted several times, hitting F9, F10, etc but always the same result. Ctrl, Alt, Delete opens that screen with the various choices but that is the end of it. Task Manager does not open either.
Can someone help, please?

There is sometimes a small hole below the drawer, if you push a straightened paper clip in, it will allow you to get a cd out, it may work after, if not get it checked out, this worked for me with same problem, been ok since

Windows 98se machine cd rom door opens and closes properly, but sometimes opens unexpectedly, and then closes when re-booting.

Also, machine no longer shuts down properly--it always re-starts and will not shut off except by hitting the power switch. Then it does not exit Windows.

These symptoms follow an infection of CWSaboutblank trojan.
Malware has been successfully removed.

Answer:CD ROM door opens randomly

You should probably search the site before asking something like that. But generally it is spyware/anti-virus related. Look into that.

Question: Back Door Trojan

Hi, i'm pretty new to this and have only had my computer a month and now it seems to have been infected with a back door trojan (or so it tells me). I get this pop up bubble in the bottom right hand corner popping up like every 2 minutes 24/7 that says "System Alert:Malware Threats. Your computer is infected with a back door trojan that allows the remote attacker to perform various malicious actions. Click this baloon to download malware removal saoftware". Now i know enough to know not to download that and I also get crap pop ups just as often. i have absolutely no idea what to do. Can anyone offer any suggestions. Thanks Heaps and Heaps. Rach.

Answer:Back Door Trojan

Hello yaychPlease read and follow all instructions in the pinned topic titled "Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log". You may have performed some of these steps already. About half way down are instructions for downloading HijackThis and creating a log. When you have done that, post a log in the HijackThis Logs and Analysis Forum, NOT here, for assistance by the HJT Team Experts. A member of the Team will walk you through, step by step, on how to clean your computer. If you post your log back in this thread, the response from the HJT Team will be delayed because your post will have to be moved. This means it will fall in line behind any others posted that same day.Start a new topic, give it a relevant title and post your log along with a brief description of your problem, a summary of any anti-malware tools you have used and a summary of any steps that you have performed on your own. Please include the top portion of the HijackThis log that lists version information. An expert will analyze your log and reply with instructions advising you what to fix. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this... Read more

I have a new Dell Extreme and was ripping my CD collection and after about 40 CDs the CD ROM door will not open (by using the eject button). Is there some way to eject other than with the button. I'm new to Vista and previously could see the drive under My Computer in XP, but under My Computer in Vista I can't even see the drive??

Any suggestions?

Answer:Solved: Can't open CD ROM Door

There should be a tiny hole near the eject button. Carefully push a straightened paperclip into that hole and the cd drawer should open a little bit so you can slowly pull it the rest of the way open. If you can't see the drive in Vista, you might need to either update the drivers or replace the drive.

Question: Latest back-door!

(Source in description)Apparently the latest backdoor infection Backdoor.IRCBot.Dorkbot.A spreads either via online messaging (MSN etc..) or USB devices. Its spreading is medium, and his danger as well. It was discovered on May 15th past year, additional to its size: ~118Kb...Symptoms: Extra http traffic;Presence of a hidden file in folder. The name of the file is random.Presence of “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Run\file name” value.Once executed, it copies itself - The copy is hidden and the name is random..That's all I can get.. The rest in the source.. I understood ZERO. I'm so ashamed i'm in a community where most people know the other things.

Answer:Latest back-door!

Hi Kurt

We all started knowing nothing. One day back in the 80s I was home sick form work and decided to start learning about computers. When I got one I started typing into the screen and couldn't figure out why it wasn't there later. But I learned. Eventually I wrote a videotape cataloging system and a utility to enhance RPG playing. I've learned and now almost 30 years later I am where I am.

alright, I know the basics, but now I need to know how to do a door in unrealEd. I am using UnrealEd 2.0 (came with unreal game of the year. I love the crossbow) So is it pretty easy to do a door? I also would like to know how to make a door that opens when you shoot it.

I installed a new 52x24x52 external CDRW. I see it in device manager, my computer etc. but I can't open it or use it. The drivers look fine. Even if I press the button on the drive it won't open.

I am not sure if I have a USB 2.0 and I don't know where to find that info. I have XP Pro & SP1. The cdrw manual says it can still work but at a slower speed if you don't have a 2.0.

Is it the cdrw or the computer?

Answer:[SOLVED] Door Won't Open?

Is there a power switch on the back of the drive? Are there any lights on the drive? Do they light up? On the front of the drive there should be a pin size hole, if you stick a paper-clip in there it will manually opent he door.

Question: Hard Drive Door...

My CD drive seems to be possesed. Awhile ago a CD got stuck in the CD drive and my brother took it upon himself to open it up and take it out. While doing this a piece came out of it, I forgot what it is called but its round, blah brain fart, anyways. So we finally got it back in and now the door opens by itself or when you press to close it, it gets stuck and keeps goin in and out. If you close the door with no CD it in, it sounds like it is struggling and it stops. I just wanted to know how can I fix it if I can?

Answer:Hard Drive Door...

I'm assuming you ment cd drive

and if it is just a cd drive or even if it is a cd rw they are really really cheap to buy so if it is that much of a problem you may want to just pick up a new one for 20$ or less

Dear MajorGeeks,

Thanks for your site and your help. I am a landscape photographer who like a lot of photographers is always looking to post my work in art and magazine sites. Like it or not, publicity keeps the bills paid.

But now I am not so sure. My handy dandy Sygate personal Firewall keeps catching an intruder from China (I have the IP numerical address) but no one can tell me how to simply close or block my computer's door in order to keep this Beijing guy out of my computer.

Am I missing something or is it true: I can't simply block by specific address this intrusion?

Answer:Locking The Computer's Door

Hi there have just googled Blockng IP's and found this for you to try !

Here is something that I would like to share with every one and quite rare to find out. This tutorial will show how to block IPs on Windows server without firewall using IPSec:

Click 'Start' > 'Run' >type 'MMC' press ok.

In the console click > 'File' > 'Add/Remove Snap in'

In the 'Standalone Tab' click The 'add' button

Seclect 'IP Security Policy Managment' > 'ADD' > 'Local Computer' > 'finish' > 'close' > 'ok'

You should now be back to the console.

In the left frame right click 'IP security policies on local computer' > 'Create IP security policy'

Click Next and then name your policy 'Block IP' and type a description.

Click 'Next' then leave 'activate' ticked then click 'Next'

leave the 'edit properties ticked and click 'Finish'

You should now have the properties window open.

Click 'ADD' then click 'Next' to continue.

Leave 'This rule does not specify a tunnel' selected and click 'next'

Leave 'all network connections' selected and click 'next'

You should now be on the IP filter list. You need to create a new filter, so dont select any of the default ones. Click 'ADD'

Type a Name... Read more

Question: Google's Back Door

Google's Back Door.

Bruce Schneier tells me something I didn't know about how those Chinese hackers managed to break into Google's email system

In order to comply with government search warrants on user data, Google created a backdoor access system into Gmail accounts. This feature is what the Chinese hackers exploited to gain access.Click to expand...

Linked article: U.S. enables Chinese hacking of Google.

There now, feel better about your Gmail account now?

-- Tom

Answer:Google's Back Door

Since I don't trust Google with anything, I feel vindicated. Strange services, streams of outgoing data whenever I started a Google app even when I wasn't using it, programs installed to strange locations to circumvent Windows security, all make me avoid anything from them like the plague. Google Updater sending out megs of data. What the heck needs that much data to be sent out to check for an update? If it increases their profit margin, they are willing to do it.

Thye government, of course, is too slow to react.

I have 3 drives in my computer.

WD SATA 250 gig - A
WD SATA 250 gig - B
Maxtor IDE 200 gig - C

Drive A contains Linux/Windows.
Drive B contains a home directory backup of drive A.
Drive C also contains a home directory backup of drive A.

The sound is similar to a wire just slightly touching the fins of a fan as it spins. I first thought that was it, but no fans are being touched by wires. I figured I'd start with drive B. I unplugged it, booted up, no sound. I figured oh that's it. Out of curiosity I plug B back in, boot up, no sound. For the next 3-4 hours I was on the computer with no sound from the hard drives (that I suspect anyway).

I wake up, and there it is.

All drives are under warranty and I have 3 full backups (4 if you include all of the blank DVD's I put all my pictures and stuff on) so I'm not going to bug out if a drive goes down. But I'm going to school for this and although I assume it's the HDD, I don't understand why it would seem better for a few hours by being shut off for 9 seconds? Could it even be that? Maybe it's something else... *shrug*

OK, this is a weird one, I've asked a few people and no one has heard of this happening before. They say I have ghosts...LOL! OK, when my PC (HP with XP) has been on for a few hours, out of nowhere, the CD door will just start opening and closing over and over. The only way I can get it to stop is to turn off my computer. This happens no matter what I'm doing on the PC. I've even had the PC in standby mode and the CD door will still start popping out after awhile. If I'm playing a game with the CD in the drive, same thing happens. Seems the only thing consistent with this problem is that it happens whenever my computer has been on for a few hours, whether I'm on the computer or not. I have checked for viruses, Trojans, etc. with a few different web sites and anti-virus tools, but nothing is ever found. I did run a PC diagnostics from my own computer and came up with a laundry list of errors. Here are a few examples: There are 2 categories, First one is (word for word) "CD-ROM Test: Linear Read - **FAILED**" Second category is "CD-ROM Test: Random Read - **FAILED**" Each category takes up half a page each with "Failed action: Reading block..." Then several different numbers. I tried to find these codes on the HP help site...yeah right! So if anyone knows where I could type in all these codes to figure them out, or if you may know what they mean, I can put them all on here too. Thanks!

By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.

Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.

DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
