Acer 620U flatbed scanner - suddenly not found

Question: Acer 620U flatbed scanner - suddenly not found

Hello,First post here.Win98SE576MB ramAcer 620U flatbed scanner USB ports built into motherboard. Not 2.0. Probably 1.1.Has been working fine for years. Not used much. Tried to use it today, and got an error message.Scanner is not found. Please check if power is on and if cable is connected.Did that. Power was on. Cable was still connected.Even though I haven't had the problem with Windows eating drivers, thought that maybe this was the first time for me. Decided to download and install the newest driver.Found it at:http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=113589Downloaded, and ran the setup program. Appeared to go along normally. It was a newer ver number than the old driver.Still getting the same error message. No hardware additions/deletions/changes since last time scanner worked fine.Same for software. Maybe WinRar was installed since. In other words, nothing that could be involved with USB ports.Went to Device Manager.Scanner appears under Imaging device. Properties say it is working properly.Under USB controlers->Root hub, it appears there too, under the Power tab.Unplug the USB cable from it, and it disappears from both. Plug it back in, wait a moment, and it reappears. This is normal, isn't it?Please confirm. What else.... oh... Went to Control Panel->Scanners and Cameras. It appears there. Disappears and reappears when usb cable is unplugged and re-plugged.Again, I'm thinking all is normal so far. But, when I click on Properties, there in Scanners and Cameras, it takes a moment to open the Properties reporting window.Under the General tab, it says Status unavailable. And the Test Scanner or Camera button is grayed out.I'm thinking this is not normal.I'm hoping my scanner is not dead too. It lights up fine, when switched on.Motors hum and whir, just like it always did. What is my next step to figure this out?If I had another computer handy, I would have tried it on that. Do I have to find a friend that will let me install it on theirs? If so, I'll try. Please advise.Other than that, I'm hoping for other suggestions.Let me know if you need more info, or if I left out something. Thanks

Preferred Solution: Acer 620U flatbed scanner - suddenly not found

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Acer 620U flatbed scanner - suddenly not found

Is there any lint in the USB port of your computer??? Had one customer a while back that had dust bunnies in their USB ports from the air flow into the case, caused the USB device to act like this...Also, have you swapped USB cables??? Just in case you have a bad cable...Also, do you have a lot of devices on your systems USB port to pull down the power supply??? If your scanner communicates and is powered off of your USB port it could be a low voltage or amperage condition... ( If you have a USB Hub with power injection ) you can try to run the scaner through the power injected HUB...Also had once where the lock on the bottom of the scaner was in the locked position causing the scanner to make noise like it is initializing, but it would disable the device as a protection to avoid trying to move the scan head while locked... If your scanner has a transportation lock to protect from G-Forces in transit from one location to the next, be sure it is unlocked... It wil do just as you describe if locked...*** Also why the odd memory size 576MB ... Do you have a 512MB Stick and a 64MB Stick or Video sharing memory off of your 640MB???Good Luck

Can acerscan 620u work on Windows 7?

Answer:looking for W7 driver for Acer AcerScan 620U

Acer stopped making scanners a long time ago so there's no way they will have a Windows 7 driver for it, or even Windows Vista. However, all is not necessarily lost. There's a scanning application called "Vuescan" which installs it's own generic scanner driver for most USB scanners which have no Windows 7 driver available.Vuescan is not free but you can try it for free to make sure it works with your scanner:http://hamrick.com/

Question: Flatbed Scanner

Hello All...

Kinda new here, so if my question is redundant, I apologize, but I couldn't find the answer anywhere else.
Here's my situation:
I formerly had Win ME on an 866 mHz clone. My Acer 620P flatbed scanner worked no problem on that PC. I've updated my OS to XP, and updated the drivers for the scanner. Windows knows its there, and everything seems fine. However, my scanner does a 'warmup' whenever you start it. This consists of the scanner 'scanning' twice...once each way. But now it won't do that on startup. It just moves an inch or two (as if it is in the lock position) and then stops. The LED sequence is fine (flashes 11 times), but thats as far as I can get. I've checked and rechecked the Acer troubleshooting, but it simply says that if this occurs to remove the lock....well....its not locked. Anyone else had a similar issue or have ANY ideas? Any help is appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

Hi There!

It sounds like the Drive Mechanism or the calibration is shot.

With the inexspensive price of scanners these days, sometimes the easiest thing would be to just replace the thing.

If you pick the scanner up and tilt it one way ot the other, does the light bar move on it's own? Is there a drive belt that may be brolen or off the track?

I'm looking to buy a flatbed scanner soon. The model I'm thinking of is the Canon Lide 200. If this model has a maximum scan area of A4 size does this mean that I can or can't enlarge my 8inch by 6 inch photos (Taken with a SLR film camera) to the size of my computer screen i.e. 1024x768 ? Or larger for that matter ?
One more thing, is it a simple matter of plugging the device into a USB port, installing and off you go ?

Answer:Which Flatbed Scanner

You'll be able to scan your 8 X 6 inch photos .. Since they are smaller than A4 .. (8.5 X 11.7 inch)
Once scanned, You can enlarge them to any physical size in inches ... Or change the pixel size to 1024X768.
Pixel size is not the same as Physical size.

You'll probably have to install some scanner software that will come with the scanner before the computer will be able to see and operate the scanner.

I recently bought a flatbed scanner. Canon Lide 200. All the specifications/reviews etc tell me that the resolution is 4800dpi x 4800dpi. However, while using the scanner (scanning a photo) I can only choose from 75dpi up to 600dpi ???? Where is this 4800dpi ? Can someone explain in layman's terms ?

I need some help. My mother passed away end of December. We have hundreds of her poems and letters and even more photographs that I want to scan to (a) preserved them from further decay and (b) to make remembrance books for my siblings and the grandchildren. I can also then give everyone a DVD... In addition, my father has thousands of slides (lovingly saved in carousels in the closet of his home office) (of us growing up) that he would like scanned before they decompose (or whatever it is that happens to old slides)...

So I want to buy something that will work for scanning slides and photographs, and of course text as well. My father has an Epson Perfection (five years old), and he likes the software that came with it - easy to use - but it wouldn't be up to the job of scanning the slides (way too slow and only 4-6 slides at a time)....

An alternate plan would be to buy something good for photos and text, and then when I go down to Texas to scan the slides I'd borrow something from one of his buddies to scan the slides.... I was looking at Epson Perfection 4990, but it didn't sound so great for text. Then there was the Canon CanoScan 9950F.....

I need help..... Something that will help get the scratches, etc out of the very old photos would be good, since we are talking photos going back to the 1930s and 1940s in some cases.... And no, I'm not a professional photographer, so wouldn't want something that is very complicated to use as far as photo ... Read more

Answer:help choosing a flatbed scanner

LJborn,

I am in the same shoes you are. I have been doing some research and read that if you have old photos with scratches or something similar, you need a scanner with what is called digital ICE technology (Image Correction & Enhancement ). I suspect that we will have to compromise with one cheap scanner that does well with slides and but is so-so with text. I do not know of any type that is excellent in both tasks and is affordable as well.

I am sorry I can't recommend any brand name since I have not use any yet. However, I do hope that I can find a good one at around $150 or less. Let us know if you have any luck finding a good scanner.

I am looking for a flatbed scanner which does a very good job with 35mm slides. I have about $500 to spend, but feel I should be able to find one for somewhat less than that. (I prefer not to buy a dedicated film scanner, although I see a local merchant currently has a Konica Minolta model for $250.)

My current scanner is an Epson Perfection 1200U which is more than three years old. The slide adaptor is a large replacement cover which is bothersome and somewhat complicated to use. (The main cover must first be removed and then replaced with the slide adaptor cover.) Assuming that the current crop of scanners is more technologically advanced, I figure I should be able to find a decent flatbed which is slimmer, easier to use and yields better -- and quicker -- results.

Over a year ago someone at this forum recommended a CanoScan 4200F, for which I read a very positive review. By now, perhaps Canon has something newer and better. Maybe I should consider another Epson. I see that CNET gives the Epson Perfection 4990 (between $400 and $500) an very respectable 8.0 rating.

I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone with good suggestions. Thank you.

I am looking for an inexpensive flatbed scanner that is compatible with the Vista Platform that I use. There are scanners for sale on EBay and some from direct manufacturers like Epson or Canon.....but none seem to specify their compatibility with Vista. I have already been stung once by buying a "UMAX" scanner on EBAY only to find that it is not compatible and the disk/driver is not acceptable on Vista. Also UMAX is so old they don't offer support any longer. In asking questions of the suppliiers of some scanners on EBAY they admit they don't have the answers, they are just selling their item ! Anybody know where I can get what I'm looking for? Willing to spend
about 50 bucks ! Thanks for your response !

I've been told a photo scanner (specifically, Pacific Image 1800U for around $130) is clearer and better than a flatbed scanner for transferring photos and slides onto pc or disks. Now I read on this forum that flatbeds do a better job (ie: Epson 1670 or 1260, around the same price as the Pac. Image)... I plan to use the scanner mainly for slides, but wouldn't mind having one that can also scan documents so it won't just sit in the closet after the slides are done.

Can anyone give me the pros and cons of the different (inexpensive) types of scanners, or your preference for one or the other?

I do very little scanning and yet I need one from time-to-time. Image quality isn't a big issue. I only scan one document/image at a time and that is fine for my needs. It doesn't have to be super fast. It needs to be able to save to .pdf format, but I guess most all of them do that.

Not really interested in a wand scanner as I have read so many bad reviews on them.

The main thing is that the flatbed scanner is compatible with Win 7 Pro - 64-bit SP1 OS. Don't need any fancy software and I'm looking in the $100 - $150 price range - easy to install and reliable.

If you have used a flatbed scanner with similar specifications and have been satisfied with it, I would appreciate your experience and make and model.

Thanks

Hi there

why get a new one if you don't need it -- just run XP as a virtual machine using free virtualisation software like Virtual PC, vmware server or VBOX. Your scanner will work just fine on this.

If this is the only app you need a tiny 256MB RAM Virtual XP machine will run just fine.

Save your money for more HOST RAM, better Video, another HDD etc. Unless you really NEED a new scanner the hardware will last for ages and ages.

I'm still using an old HP plotter circa 1985 -- works fine on an XP virtual machine.

Use the Virtualisation section of the forum for info in this topic and how to set up virtual machines.

Hi. Here is another scanner problem. My 9220 has severed me without complaint for two years. Two days ago it quit working.
I use windows xp and paperport 8.0
I uninstalled the drives and reinstalled.
The scanner icon shows in the icon tray, but has the red x over it.
I keep getting a window that says it can not locate the hardware and another one that says it cannot find scanner.
I have carefully checked all usb plugs and the light stays on at the scanner bed.
I wonder if the scanner has a problem inside the scanner itsself.
I also reinstalled my Dos32 subsystem file, but still nothing.

Anyone know about the visioneer 9220 and its history?
Thank you

Answer:Problem with a Visioneer 9220 flatbed scanner

Try uninstalling the software, unplugging the scanner usb cable, restart, and then follow the directions for installing the software like you did when the scanner was new. Sometimes they want you to install the software first and then plug in the scanner, and then sometimes they want it the other way around. If it still doesn't work, chances are you need a new scanner.Good luck.

I purchased and received today an Epson V500 Flatbed Scanner.I can not get it to scan to e mail. This is one of the selling points for me.I spent well over an hour, including being placed on hold with Epson's tech support. They were not able to get it fixed.

My operating system is Win XP Pro and Outlook Express 6 is my e mail application. Are there ideas?

Answer:Solved: Epson V500 Flatbed Scanner

You probably need to reset (not reload) the scanner software. Start the Epson scan software. Select professional mode from the pull down menu (it lets you choose between auto, home and professional.) On the next screen select at the very bottom select configuration. The next screen should have 4 tabs, select other. The at the bottom (I think) select restore to factory defaults. This will reset your software, now you can use auto mode if you want it to make all your selections or home if you want some control or professional if you want to control everything. Don't forget to use your film holder that came with the unit and remove the white cover that is locked underneath the lid that covers the film illumination bulb.

I recently moved and when packing up this scanner, I forgot to lock the carriage. Now the light bar seems stuck; it won't move but the software and even the Preview works fine. Have I ruined the scanner? Any ideas?

Answer:Scanport SQ4830 flatbed scanner:locked carriage

You say the Preview works. Do you actually get a preview of anything you put on the scanner bed when you click 'Preview' in the scanner software?. If you do, that means the lamp carriage is not stuck since the lamp has to move in order to give a preview of what's currently above it.

If the lamp carriage is definitely stuck it will have been damaged during the move because of it not being manually locked into place. I reckon repairing it may prove not to be cost-effective compared to the cost of a new scanner. I can't find any instances on Google Search where such damage has been successfully repaired at home.

Just purchased new HP PC, wins xp professional.

Need to replace the above referenced scanner. It was hooked up to my printer and PC and I could scan into paperport window on desktop, do the usual photo editing and WRITE MORE THAN TWO LINES OF TEXT, email to others, print out on PLAIN PAPER.

Being able to add more than TWO LINES OF TEXT is very important to me. I need more text because I'm scanning in old family photos, etc. and need to add lots of details, source, who submitted, etc.

My problem is I can't tell by the descriptions for scanners for sale online (which is how I want to buy) whether or not they'll allow me to do what I want.

What language am I looking for? There's a VISIONEER ONE TOUCH 9420 that is in the right price range for me, but I can't tell if it will do what I need. (I really don't want to have to call them long distance to ask my question.) Does anybody here happen to have the 9420 or can tell me what product description I need to look for? Thanks. Fox

Answer:Solved: Need to replace Visioneer,OneTouch,5300 flatbed scanner

I’m assuming you are doing your text with PaperPort. Since Visioneer lists PaperPort separate from their TWAIN drive you could probably use your old PaperPort if the new version has dropped that capability for some reason.

Most viewers and image editors have an “acquire” command under File that will scan directly into the program. There are many free utilities that will add text to images. You might try one of your current images in this utility and see if it will allow you sufficient text. If it works OK you can use any scanner. http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/software/PhotoPlus/default.asp It also has the advantage of being a real image editor with things like layers and a clone tool if you want to get into more advanced image work. It isn’t the best image editor or even the best free one, but it is easier than most to use and a lot better than PaperPort – although I have to admit I haven’t used a current version of PaperPort.

Another option would be to get an editor that lets you write comments to the file rather than print it on the picture. The IPTC data can be read on most decent viewers and isn’t proprietary. This is an example of how the IPTC data would read in the great little freeware viewer Irfanview: http://bppdocs.camner.net/html/iptc_info.htm Both JAlbum and the BPP utility that works with it to write IPTC comments are free.

I'm looking for drivers for Windows 7 for the Canon Powershot A40 camera and for a Benq flatbed scanner. The camera contains precious pics and it would be a pity not being able to download them. Any suggestions?

Answer:Canon A 40 Powershot and Benq flatbed scanner drivers for Windows 7 64

You don't need drivers for the Canon Powershot...all you need is the cable that came with the camera. Just plug in the camera to a USB port and use Windows photo viewer; or get an inexpensive card reader. Remove the card from the Powershot and place in card reader.

All you need to do is drag the photos to your computer.

VueScan Scanner Software for Windows 7, Mac OS X Lion, Linux, iPhone, iPad, iPod has VueScan software, a universal driver. I've never used it but it's free to try. See if it works.

Hi to ALL!!
I have a CANOSCAN1240U and it has been a real gem letting me scan in things and then attach them to E-Mails and/or embed them in Power Point or Word docs.

After my last scan this device stayed in the extreme UP position and making a chattering noise. I contacted Canon support folks and they told me to flip the power switch on the bottom ON & OFF and that made no difference.

I did an UNINSTALL of the software and reloaded it, still having the same result.

ANY & ALL SUGGESTIONS WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

Try physically sliding the mechanism down its guide a bit. If may have just gone too far. Usually, you can move them fairly easily, but you could also try pulling a bit on the drive belt, too, if you see one.

hey there, I have a Canon CanoScan FB 620U flatbed scanner and I don't have a working driver. The CD that came with it was for Windows 98, and when I put it in I found out that it has the Chernobyl virus on it (how the heck did that happen? did Canon somehow manage to ship a bunch of CD-ROMs with a highly destructive computer virus on it?)

I've tried to download it from several different sites, including cannon's site, but couldn't find a suitable driver anywhere, only a toolbox for scanner functions that didn't actually recognize the scanner.

so does anyone know how I can get this scanner to work on my XP laptop?

I have a Canon LIDE 20 which has given excellent service for two or three years. Suddenly and with no warning today I got the message "Release the lock switch, detach the USB cable and reconnect. Scanner drive will be closed."
The next message was "Unable to open TWAIN source. Please check connection. Then re-start Toolbox".
The lock switch has never been other than unlocked, but I did check, and also detached and reconnected the USB cable. I then restarted the computer, and after that uninstalled the scanner and reinstalled it from the CD ROM.
All to no avail. I keep getting the same message.
Any ideas will be gratefully accepted.

Answer:Scanner suddenly won't work

I have managed to solve my scanner problem myself, but the answer is one of general application. With a Canon scanner one must use the original CD ROM for uninstalling, not Windows. Otherwise, it seems, the glitch that caused the problem may not be removed. That has been my experience, anyway. Having done that and re-installed, the scanner was working perfectly again.

Hi there PC Advisor forum. I have never heard of a scanner lamp failing before, but my Visioneer One Touch 5600 USB scanner quality has suddenly deteriorated. My black/white copies need adjusting several times before a reasonable scanned copy is achieved, and all my colour copies are very poor, with a rust coloured red/brown tinge on everything scanned. The lamp looks slightly rust coloured at one end. Has it's power faded? I use Paperport Deluxe 7, but have the same poor results using other software like MGI, so I supect a hardware deterioration or failure. Has anyone any ideas about repairs before I convert this scanner into a doorstop?! Thanks..

Answer:Scanner quality has suddenly dropped

Scanner lamps do fail although they seem to last longer now than they did a few years ago.If it is the lamp (and it does seem likely from your description of the state of it) it will most likely be almost as cheap to buy a new scanner. In addition, it can be a devil of a job to remove the old lamp and replace it in some machines.

I've never had problems using my Epson Perfection 3490 scanner in the year and a half I've owned it. However, I am now getting this pop-up message :

"Cannot properly communicate with the scanner. Make sure the scanner is on, properly connected, and properly set up to scan. If using a SCSI connection, restart your computer."

I am connected to my computer by the same USB port that I've always used with the scanner before and that port continues to work okay with my digital cameras, flash drivers and mp3 players. Several times since this problem appeared I have used Device Manager plus Windows Remove programs to remove Epson 3490 driver completely (and then I reinstalled the driver from the Epson.com web site).

When I plug the scanner cable into the USB port I get that "ping" sound that usually means a device has connected with my computer.

When I left click on My Computer I see an icon representing my scanner. When I right click on that icon I can then select Properties. In Properties I see a box labeled Test Scanner. After I left click on that box I get a message saying "Your imaging device successfully completed the diagnostic test". And yet I still get the "Cannot properly communicate with the scanner" message !

I don't know what else to try. I hate being without use of my scanner. I am a newcomer to this forum and would appreciate any ideas anyone has.

I use a Dell computer, XP2

hi all!
i have a genius color page hr6 v2 scanner on EPP and it's been working pretty well with my old pc a PIII 500 running win 98 se on an ASUS P2-99 motherboard.

i recently purchased a new pc a P4 1.5GHz with 512 RDRAM on an Intel D850GB motherboard running windows millenium. now the frustrating part is that after i installed the drivers the OS does not recognize the scanner. power is check, i do not think the problem is with the parallel ports or cables since i run my printer through a daisy chain on the scanner and i can print out on my HP LJ1100 perfectly well both on ECP and EPP. i downloaded the latest drivers from their website and still no cigar for me. tried to troubleshoot but i could not find the scanner on the device manager to check if there are any conflicts! i also tried removing the printer from the daisy chain just in case it was hogging the communication but still windows me refuses to get acquainted with my scanner.

Question: scanner not found

I haven't used my scanner in a few months, and when I tried to start it up I got the message that it was missing a .dll file. It is an HP Scanjet 6200c.

I uninstalled the scanning software through it's own uninstall utility, then reinstalled the software. Now when I try to use the scanner, I get an error message telling me "scanner not found". It shows up when I go into device manager, without any sort of error notation next to it.

Should I have unplugged the scanner from its USB port while doing all this software uninstalling and reinstalling? Is there a way to get my PC to recognize my scanner again? I've never had problems with it before. I've got a Dell Dimension XPS T500 with Win 98. Thanks in advance.

Question: Scanner not found

Some time ago I bought a new computer running Windows XP. I have a Tevion flatbed scanner which worked well on my previous computer. When I tried to connect it to the new computer I forgot to re-read the instructions which clearly state that the software should be loaded before connecting the scanner via USB. I plugged the scanner in before loading the software which, obviously didn't work. I uninstalled the software and started from scratch but keep getting messages along the lines of "Scanner not found, check connections and make sure it is switched on" (Or something like that) If the scanner is connected to the computer and switched on then I cannot open My Computer, I just see the swinging flashlight. I then have to disconnect the scanner and restart the computer before I can gain access to My Computer.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

I have uninstalled the printer software and reinstalled it, drivers and firmware are current from Kodak website, have run the compatability troubleshooter and followed recommendations, scanner worked fine with Windows XP on old computer. Going nuts and very upset

My system - Dell 4100, 128 Meg RAM, Parallel connected to HP Scanjet 5300C - HP Deskjet 970Cse connected to scanner.
I get "scanner not found" message. 9 months ago, a fix was to uninstall and reinstall the PrecisionScan software which I did 3 times before it worked. This time, I've uninstalled and re-installed it 8 times but with no success. HP help is canned directions which haven't helped so far.

Managed to solve the problem on my own, hope this helps someone else also:1--Deleted all existing HP files on the iMac by doing an Uninstall (which was part of the HP Files in Applications).2--Inserted the Scanjet 3670 software disc that came with it.3--Downloaded the HP Update HP Photosmart Studio 9.3.5 with Universal Binary Support for Mac OS X 10.3 and 10.4(at this link http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=298541&prodTypeId=15179&prodSeriesId=298539&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=219)4--Followed Instructions in the 3670 Users Manual under 'Scanner Initialization Problems'5--Did a restart on the iMac and it's working fine.Good luck with your problems.

I have the UMAX Astra 2000P model scanner. I'm using Win 98. I used the scanner this morning and the application just froze while warming up. I re-booted, but then the computer could no longer find the driver. I tried reinstalling driver, but no luck. What should I do?

Update: When I try to run the scanner application thru Photoshop, a little window pops up saying "searching" for UMAX scanner. Then this Scanner Test window pops up asking if you wanna run a test. After running the test it says that the driver can't be found, then another window pops up says "COULD NOT OPEN THE TWAIN SOURCE. MAKE SURE THERE'S A VALID SOURCE FOR YOUR SCANNER IN THE TWAIN DIRECTORY FOUND IN THE WINDOWS DIRECTORY"

Answer:scanner driver not found

Twain drivers can be a pain. If they get corrupted an uninstall and reinstall of the scanner software wonít replace them. I trust you have uninstalled and reinstalled VistaScan when you say ďI tried reinstalling the driverĒ.

Uninstall VistaScan.
Do a search for twain and remove ALL files and folders you find in the Windows directory. There should be a folder and several files.
Reinstall VistaScan.

Delete only twain files and folders in the Windows folder.

Also have a look in device manager to make sure your LPT port is OK. Do you have it piggybacked with a printer or other device on the parallel port?
