Preferred Solution: bios

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: bios

Back up your data then do a full reinstall of XP choosing the option to format the drive. That should solve all.

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... Well, I chose the boot as "legacy bios only" after receiving the x220. I did a clean install of Win7 ultimate 64bits (which means the setting soft provided by Lenovo does not work) and then updated the BIOS to 1.15. After all these, the machine runs mostly fine but I noticed that I could not log into the BIOS setup any more. Pressing F1\F2\F12\thinkVamtage when the bootup screen shows up (press thinkVantage bottom....), and nothing happens. It does not beep as it did before and does not respond to the buttom press. That means I could not choose bootup device either - it will log into Windows from HDD no matter how you tried to boot from other devices. Any ideas on the problem? And I guess resetting the BIOS might solve the problem, but how? Any help is appreciated.

Answer:Can not log into x220 BIOS? How to reset BIOS setting without entering BIOS setup?

Try turning the system completely off, then power it on and press F1.I've seen strange cases where pressing F1 doesn't work on a warm boot.  It always works on a cold boot.

Hello all, I have a SL500I have upgraded to windows 7 home premium yesterday,so i just got all my the software and Lenovo applications updated since i need to reinstall all of them.I also came across with an update on the bios, so i proceeded. I originally had a password set, its the one that I need to enter soon after I switch on my laptop,NOT that one use to log in and out of windows. ( I am not sure if its called the BIOS password)After updating the bios, i was asked for a password when it reboot, however it didnt take my original password anymore. I am not sure if all passwords get erased after updating bios, if it did, i dont get why it still asked for the password when i reboot.  As i kept trying and kept getting the password wrong, i got this message " system halted"After that, the system just reboot again, and from this time on, it never asked for any password when I switch on my laptop. Everything still runs fine, HHD didn't get formatted. But then there is one problem, I can not get into bios now. Would anyone have any ideas what happened to my laptop or solutions to the above situation, please comment and advise. Your help will be much appreciated.Thank you.

Hi everyone,

I have tried new Lenovo Product: IdeaPad 500 ISK with Intel Real Sense Technology.

It is great experience with this device in my country whereas price / perfomance is super great .

However, one unbelivable issue coming when I have tried to replace the DVD (ODD) with a SSD drive.

Using a caddy bay at ODD, testing through F11/F12 Boot Menu Selection, we get the following results:

1. Internal HDD: SATA 3.0 (6.0Gb/s) Hard Disk 750GB
Caddy Bay: SATA 3.0 SSD Samsung 850 EVO
=>> Unable to Boot through SSD (F11 Selection, also not appear in BIOS) also not detect SSD after booting to Windows.

2. Internal HDD: SATA 3.0 HDD 750GB
Caddy Bay: SATA 2.0 HDD Toshiba
=>> Both drives detect in BIOS and Windows.

3. Internal HDD: SATA 3.0 HDD 750GB
Caddy Bay: SATA 3.0 HDD Seagate
=>> BIOS and F11 selection only detect Internal HDD but Windows could detect also using Caddy Bay Hard Drive normally.

I have also tested some other cases with different Caddy Bay Brand, Hard Drives, with Switchs change in Caddy Bay and got the same result.

Making some research over Internet I have found some other users got the same issues like this.

To sum up, it is right time for Lenovo to help us with new BIOS which bring better compatible to SATA 3.0 device under their SATA 2.0 port for DVD. (This is also a strange in design which a new powerful Skylake still have some SATA 2.0 Port).

Hi All ! Excuse my poor english because i'm french.

A friend gives me his Notebook (a Satellite 4090CDS exactly) because he had a probleme.
In fact, the problem is that when I switch on the computer, i have one and only one message(not even the red toshiba logo) which is "Ready for BIOS update. Place the BIOS update diskette in the drive, and press any key when ready to proceed."

So I go on french toshiba website, in the BIOS download, i find that i have to download this update: http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/bios/satellite/4030-4060-100/bios_820.zip

Ok, i download and unzip it to a diskette and i boot the notebook with the disjette, it said that the update was made successfully and automatically reboot.
This time, the red toshiba logo appears, but next i have a black screen with a message:

**** Bad check sum (CMOS) ****
Check system. Then press [F1] key.

And after that, i can't do anything, not even press F1. If i reboot the notebook, i meet myself one more time with the first message "Ready for BIOS update..." and it is still and still the same.

If anyone could help me to understand what is the problem, it would be very nice.
Thanks.

Bastien.

Answer:Satellite 4090 BIOS issue - "Ready for BIOS update..." message appears

It sounds as if your CMOS chip has a problem. It?s possible that the CMOS battery has failed and your BIOS settings are being lost.
Maybe the RTC battery is empty. In this case you should plug the AC adaptor to charge the RTC battery.
Please note that the RTC battery (CMOS battery) will charge after the notebook main battery was fully charged. In this case the charging procedure could take several hours.

But if after this long charging procedure this message appears again so I assume the battery is dead.
I suggest you contact your nearest ASP to get your notebook checked.

Whilst updating the BIOS the system froze at step 7 of replacing the BIOS code, needless to say the laptop will not boot as the BIOS is now corrupt.

I have the BIOS.BAK but need advice on how to restore the BIOS. I copied the BIOS.BAK to a usb stick and plugged this into the laptop and then powered on the system (I've tried holding down F, F2 and together). I can see that the usb stick flickers initially but clearly does not progress with the restore.

I hope someone might be able to advise how to use the BIOS.BAK file to restore the BIOS.

Hi

I wondering what Crisis Recovery Disk do you have ?:|
In my experience the special disk is needed which is available only for ASP technician.
Therefore it?s necessary to contact the ASP in your country in order to reflash the BIOS.

In my opinion you shouldn?t not try any ?Crisis Recovery disks? which you fond in the net? this can lead to mobo damage?

Hello I upgraded my BIOS recently (I believe from A04 to A06) because I felt it might be needed to support a CPU upgrade.  Problem is, the new BIOS adds no new features that I can see, and takes 10 seconds longer to boot.  Fastboot is enabled.  This is a problem, since I recently installed an SSD and this new BIOS appears to be doing nothing, and is getting in the way of an otherwise lightning fast boot.
What is the correct procedure for restoring the system to the BIOS which it shipped with?  I think I can remove the battery, but is there not a preferred method? Also, it is remotely possible, given the processor upgrade, that the old BIOS will not boot.  I would prefer not to put in the old processor, reinstall the new BIOS, put in the new processor... Decades ago, a floppy disk would have come to the rescue, I believe Dell has a procedure for installing a new BIOS from a flash drive if a system fails to boot, what is the correct procedure?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hi.

My Sat M30 laptop start with an bios error. The error says "Resource conflict, edit bios setting or boot" If select "boot" computer hangs before windows completely starts. I remove the wi-fi and the modem module and the same error appears. I can't upgrade the bios because the windows don't start. The bios version is 1.7. The laptop is UK version. If select "edit bios", bios start but I can't find any resource management.

Thanks

(sorry for my english, I am from Spain)

Answer:Satellite Pro M30 Bios error Resource conflict - Edit bios setting or boot

Hi

I think the error ?edit bios setting? means that you should access the BIOS and should set the BIOS back to the default settings.

Please do this, save the settings and try to boot up!

Hello, Problem 1:I've set the supervisor password some time ago on my T450s. I think I used the special character "!" which was accepted at that time, but I'm not sure anymore today. Now after severeal BIOS updates the "!" only leads to a beep of the system and I also tried all of my standard-passwords without "!" , but without success. Problem 2:Now I've tried to roll back to older BIOS versions to try if one of these accepts the "!". But every version I tried leads to a "secure flash authentication failed"-error after the reboot of the laptop to actually flash the BIOS. The following link says its the Rollback Prevention Enabled, but I checked in BIOS and it's clearly disabled.https://support.lenovo.com/sg/de/solutions/ht117858 Now I have no idea how to proceed. Has anyone seen that the BIOS has accepted special characters like "!"?Are there other T450s which are not able to rollback to older BIOS versions with the above mentioned error? Technical Infos:- Model: ThinkPad T450s 20BW-S03E00 (the one with Intel graphics only and a core i5-5200)- BIOS: 1.29(JBET65WW) Thanks in advance!  Best regards,Linus123

I have a Dell Latitude D630. It has an admin password for the bios. Nothing is locked except for the settings. I can't change any of the settings in the bios. It lets me boot to windows just fine though. My question is, since I don't know that admin password for the bios, if I upgrade the bios firmware, will the admin password be deleted? Since I'm flashing the bios, I would think that all the settings will be lost. Is that the case?

I am guessing that something quite wrong was done in 2.20 (and it persists into 2.21). There was no such errant behavior with 2.19, as I've confirmed by reinstalling 2.19.  Works perfectly and boots promptly and the BIOS Setup utility works lickity-split with 2.19, just like it always has.  But with the install of 2.20 the behavior changed drastically.

Looking at the README for BIOS 2.20 this definitely seems like the culprit:

[Problem fixes]- Fixed an issue where fan might rotated with max speed due to not reading CPU   temperature correctly.- Fixed an issue where system might not boot to OS when attached an external monitor   and its USB3 devices.- Fixed an issue where network boot might happened at reboot after resume from suspend   by Wake On LAN.

At first I thought I had blown the BIOS update, since my screen was simply black for what seemed like 1-2 minutes after displaying the Lenovo logo and "press ENTER to interrupt" message.  I pressed ENTER repeatedly but nothing happened, for a long time.  Eventually, the hard drive activity LED on the P70 started flashing, and seemingly almost 2 minutes later, the machine came to life and boot process continued normally.

Then, once I entered the BIOS, I used the right-arrow key to navigate through the tabs.  No problem until I got to the Security tab and then pressed right-arrow one more time to navigate into the Boot tab... and it hung!  Didn't go ri... Read more

The same issue from BIOS 1.2.5 is happening with BIOS 1.2.6. After the update, the boot screen remain totally black (no Dell logo) and you cant enter in the BIOS interface (no video at all).
The workaround is to downgrade to BIOS version 1.2.3
The windows boots as usual, and maybe this is the reason that users havent noticed this issue.
The bios upgrade/downgrade is automated. No mouse clicks are needed. Just wait computer to boot and wait some minutes. After this (blind) downgrade (because there is no video), you will see the dell logo once again and everything works as usual.

Hello, I have a T420 4180-LVP, and recently I updated the bios to 1.43 (I think it was this update that caused my discomfort) and am no longer able to perform the boot for install (with dvd or usb, none of the right) windows 8 when I enable UEFI Only in bios. How do I install windows 8 secure boot on my thinkpad?

Answer:T420 4180-LVP bios 1.43 not boot to install windows 8 with bios options UEFI Only

Hi, carlosrrjr

In the BIOS, there should be a settiing for Secure Boot, and it is likely set to Enabled. If this is set to Disabled, and the Boot Order settings are set properly, then you should be able to boot from external devices like a DVD. Just make sure the Optical Drive appears before the Hard Drive in the boot menu.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Well, I have used the BIOS updater listed on the drivers/bios updates section of Toshiba website, on Windows vista x64 and offcourse I have used the x64 executable.
Strangely, when I reboot it, it requests a bios password that I have never inserted. So I suppose the update inserted a password automatically. Now I can't boot from any device so I cant use the laptop.

What do you have to say about this?

Have you founded some answers? Nobody offered here real explanation what can be wrong there. Have you maybe contacted authorized service partner in your country. They have contact with Toshiba and I am pretty sure they can help you about that.

Hello my friends ! A time ago i bouhgt two Lenovo ideapad 100 14 IBY (FreeDos Version) and install Windows 10 on it with UEFI and GPT Partition Table. All works fine until i want to play around with Linux and install UBUNTU Mate in UEFI on one of them. Is that a 3000 N100 0769? Assuming it is, Check in bios (F1 on boot) for your boot order.May be trying to boot from lan/network? If so,exclude from boot if you do not boot from a network. Also in bios, disable "quiet boot" under Advanced taband see what happens. You should at least get a screen to readas it boots, may be a clue there. Do you mean "low PITCHED CONSTANT beep"?

Hello All,
3 days ago I applied the latest bios update to my 1-year old XPS15, running latest and fully patched 64 bit Windows 10 public release.
Since then
A) plugin a rather simple USB-3 hub into the system prevents the laptop from Booting into BIOS, or if manages to do that
B) plugin said USB-3 hub after full windows boot, freezes both USB ports devices.  The unfreeze can be overcame by unplugging the hub and then other device and then re-pluging both
C) after step B, windows explorer becomes very unstable and does not even show all the folder contents to some programs "open file" function.
D) the system does not recover anymore from plain S3 sleep, triggering a windows hard reboot.
I'm afraid the bios option to roll-back the bios version was not active, so I'm stuck.
Finally, the latest Intel diver published at the same time does not install cleanly after the bios update (although I managed to get it to show in the "program files" section.
I always apply the latest updates for drivers and bios promptly as main security policy and so far the system has behaved very well (Maybe with the exception of Hibernation from sleep time out, which always has been a bit faulty)

I am look for a last ditch help on fixing the BIOS/POST problem on a perfectly fine E6230
I was attempting to make a powered eSATA cable work when I enabled the SATA 4 and SATA 5 button in the BIOS.
After reboot... nothing..
I have been told it is a motherboard failure but this is too co-incidental!
I have tried a reset of the BIOS by disconnecting all power even the BIOS Coin battery .... nothing - no POST - although the LED shows that laptop is detecting lack of memory and HDD
A search shows that for INSPIRON laptops the BIOS can be unpacked and re-FLASHED to reset.
Does anyone know how to achieve this with the DELL Latitude Laptop or another way to reset the BIOS setting please?

Many thanks for any help or advice

I did multiple searches but only came up with "forgot my BIOS password-how can I reset it" type posts. I am looking for urgent help to get back into the "BIOS" of my Lenovo IdeaPad 110 running preinstalled Windows 10. Everything was running fine until yesterday. This is when I made the mistake of thinking I knew more about the system than I actually seem to lol :/ So, yesterday--I entered the "BIOS" screen upon startup using F2 (function key+F2). I went on to disable wireless connection ability (to test something unrelated), and also switched Boot from strait UEFI boot mode to legacy/UEFI boot-with UEFI being the default boot option.  I don't know if any of the above have to do with the issue I am now having but I wanted to share it just in case. Here is the real issue as of now: Also yesterday at the same time while in "BIOS", I also went on to set an "admin password", the one you must type in before you can even get to the lenovo splash screen to enter "BIOS". Basically I believe this is referred to as a POST password although I am not an expert cleary (hence asking for the experts' he... Read more

Unfortunately the Lenovo Download library does not have BIOS updates available for either of the models you have listed.  What you might do is a search on the Internet to see if a website like BIOS Mods has something available.

Hello,
When I press Restore Settings button in BIOS setting (through F2 when Dell logo is displayed at booting) then the dialog with two options is shown:

BIOS Defaults
Factory Settings

What is the difference about these two options (BIOS Defaults vs. Factory Settings) please?
Thank you.

Hello , I have a Dell Inspiron 530 running Windows Vista Home. I am trying to access the system BIOS and it has a red password log in screen. I tried to guess and enter several log in passwords including  the word DELL and none of them worked. I didn't want to enter too many wrong passwords because I didn't know if the system would lock me out. Can anyone help me by pass the BIOS log in password or some how disable it ? Thank You in advance.

My XPS 15 9550 laptop received a Dell update notification to install BIOS 1.5 about 3 days ago.  I did the update and it initially appeared to succeed.  Today I rebooted the laptop for the first time since updating, and it failed to restart.  It does not POST or show the BIOS screen.  The power light illuminates when pressed, and goes out when pressed again (after a short delay). The keyboard illumination comes on while the power button is lit. Other than that, there is no sign of life. If I power on with the 'D' key pressed, the screen does show the color-flashing LCD test.
The symptoms are exactly as described in this thread from May: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/20013272, exactly.  I did all the same diagnostic steps listed there, and got absolutely identical results at each step. The BIOS recovery proposed there also failed identically for me.
The final message in that thread seemed to state that it was a motherboard failure.  It's just too much of a stretch that my motherboard would fail in the exact same manner, immediately following a BIOS update (unless you classify a corrupt BIOS as a motherboard failure?).
What other steps can I take to clear and reload my BIOS, if the USB stick with BIOS_IMG.rcv and Ctrl-Esc-PowerPlug recovery method never succeeds?

Answer:XPS 15 9550 dead after BIOS 1.5 update, doesn't POST or show BIOS

The previous thread link seems to be broken above, but the text of the URL looks correct.  I'll attempt to link it again, here:

I took out my 1TB 5400RPM Harddrive that came with the Ideapad Z585 and replaced it with a faster 500GB 7200RPM Harddrive.  I then changed the boot sequence in the Bios to start from the CD/DVD drive and installed windows 8 from Windows disks. I also installed the necessary drivers.  I made the new drive have only two partitions and no recovery partition. After installing windows the laptop was working great until I pressed F2 and went back into the Bios.  While in the Bios I changed the boot sequence back the way it was to boot from Harddrive first.  I also removed my password. Now everytime I try to save and exit the Bios the screen goes black, then goes right back into the bios. I removed the 500GB Harddrive and went back to the original 1TB harddrive that came with it.  Now the Bios works fine.  How do I make it so the bios works with the new drive? Thanks for the help Greg

Answer:Ideapad Z585 stuck in Bios boot menu - Can't exit the Bios

When windows 8 was installed was it in uefi mode and the disk formatted as a gpt disk? I'm referring to the 500 Gb 7200 rpm hdd. Aditional question: Is the Windows 8 that you use 64-bit?

Hello all,
Just bought this laptop from ebay and I am looking to upgrade my current BIOS (A03) to the latest one (A23). But I am not able to install this latest BIOS (A23) unless my current BIOS is (A05). I follow the instruction on Dell support site and trying to download (A05) but it does not show anything in the links.
Where can I find this (A05) BIOS for my laptop?
Here is the instruction provided by Dell Driver and Download:
Note:
1. Please note that if the A04 or before A04 BIOS is currently installed on your system, you must first update to A05 BIOS and then flash to the latest A-rev BIOS.A05 link: www.dell.com/.../DriverDetails2. Please note that if the A05 or after A05 BIOS and before A08 is currently installed on your system, you must first update to A08 BIOS and then flash to the latest A-rev BIOS.A08 link: www.dell.com/.../DriverDetails
Looking forward for your assistant and thanks in advance for all your help.

Hello all -      I've done a lot of reasearch on this and have not found the solution. It all started when I tried to access BIOS, and I cannot. I've tried the lenovo button, F2, F1, delete, etc and none take me to BIOS, they all just boot windows 8.1. I tried pulling the battery, holding down the power button and booting back up, still no dice. I haven't tried Fn+F2 yet, I just read that one this morning.      I found the BIOS update on the website, attempted to follow the instructions and the 'public' file I click on opens the BIOS flashing utility and starts reading the BIOS and then stops with the error 'winflash64.exe has stopped working' and says 'exits with error 255'. Nothing seems to work. I found one post that suggests that I could need to disable DEP to make it run? I haven't tried that yet because it wasn't for this same laptop. What is the difference between the 'public' and the 'private' files? I have also read that the 'private' file will work, but I don't want to do it out of order. Do I need to do both?? My computer works and I want to keep it that way.       There's nothing really wrong with my computer other than not being able to get into BIOS (and wifi drops and itelligent pad stops working) so I want to solve that incase I experience a hard drive failure or want to replace the drive. How do I go about making this work?      Also - any ideas on wifi connectivity or the in... When I turn on my computer yestereday it loaded the post screen briefly than went directly into BIOS setup. When I exit the bios setup the screen goes black flickers than goes back into BIOS setup. BIOS recognized hard drives and cd roms, and boot sequence was correct. I decided to deal with it tomorrow or today.. When i turned it on today it booted to my 2nd harddrive (which also has an OS installed) went into bios booted from my main harddrive and the computer worked fine for about 20 min. I was browsing the web and microsoft outlook kept trying to open eventually everytime i closed it pop right back up couldnt access taskmanager keyboard couldnt type however i could manuever with the arrow keys. Powered down and when i rebooted had the same problem as before.. wont get past bios setup. I have tried reseting the CMOS jumpers but that didnt have any affect. tried booting with soley; each hard drive (separately), cd rom, and with each stick of memory. All running into the same issue. Hi

Like a complete idiot I upgraded my bios (to 1.80) for Satellite A30 (PSA30E). I've noticed two problems.

a) during boot I no longer get any welcome screen, and cannot access the bios or boot from other devices - so if I want to boot from CD now I can't - e.g. impossible to reinstall OS in the future

b) the battery suddenly wasn't fully charged and hangs persistently on 99% (apparently)

c) who knows what else could be going wrong

I'd dearly love to undo what I've done, but it doesn't seem possible. How on earth do I fix this, since clearly the bios update is flawed. Can I find an earlier bios update file (and how to use it)? Can I fix this one?

Anyone any thoughts?

David

Answer:Bios update Satellite A30 - can't access bios and no full charge light

Hi

Firstly may to ask why you have updated the BIOS. If everything works the BIOS update is not necessary.

Ok, how did you try to access the BIOS? Usually the F2 button should be pressed immediately after notebook starting. You can try to press several times.

But you can boot from ODD on different ways. You can press C button and the notebook will activate the booting from the drive or you will press F12 and you will choose the ODD as booting source.

I don?t know why the battery power freezes at 99% but you could try to remove the battery and wait several times. Then connect it again and check the battery status.

When I tried to update win8.1 updates KB3000850, it failed via auto-update or installation. Follow the Microsoft guide to restart laptop into safe mode, installation failed also. Toshiba 5205 - Serviceman / Call Bios - Need some help.

I flashed my bio's and the laptop locked up in windows and didn't shut off after the flash.

Now when I turn the laptop on, I get no picture and the front of the laptop has a remote lcd display that says: Serviceman / Call BIOS.

I have already remove the laptop's battery and let it sit a full day to killthe bios, but I get the same error and still no picture.

How can I fix this? The bio's should be dead by now. Am just using the ac-power pack for power. I tryed plugging the battery pack back in and I have also put the bio's battery back in. and I get the samething error message on the remote lcd.

There must be a way to get around this, if anyone knows please let me know.

Answer:Satellite 5205 - After Bios update - Serviceman / Call Bios message

Hi Jim,

Unfortunately removing the battery will not reset your BIOS. The BIOS is maintained by a separate battery on your motherboard (the CMOS or RTC battery) and you will need to dismantle your notebook to access this battery. Even removing the CMOS battery will not reset your BIOS since it will be held in a non-volatile area of the CMOS chip.

You will need to take your notebook to a Toshiba Authorised Service Agent to have the chip reflashed with a new BIOS.

Hello all,

I have a Satellite P850/040 and after updating BIOS to the new version 1.50 I have checked that a BIOS user password has been configured, though I can boot the operating system.

This is incredible. I'm very disappointed with Toshiba.

How can I remove that password? Maybe with any JCMOS jumper?

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately something like this will not work. Best thing you can do now is to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

You must not be disappointed. I know it is stupid situation now but make a call, explain the situation and the guys will help you.

A few days ago I had some problems with my HDD so I brought a new one.  To install Windows in the new drive I plugged in the DVD drive that Lenovo ships with the laptop and tried to boot from it. That failed and BIOS got like "programmed" or stuck with configurations that doesn't let it recognise any boot media no matter if it is a USB stick or HDD, no matter if I try to change the configuration of the BIOS it would always get back to the initial state of not being able to boot I even tried to reset it by unplugging its battery and the laptop battery but the only thing that happens is system time starting from 0 while any other configuration stays the same.  I thought this could be fixed using crisis recovery mode, but the laptop doesn't recognise the BIOS loaded on the USB and never make any sort of beep or alert noises, the screen doesn't show anything either and fans just get to 100% I really need help to solve this problem, it's like the BIOS got stuck in the last configurations before plugging the DVD drive in. (The Boot menu still showing that there's a USB booteable device even when it is not plugged in).

I had a strange set of circumstances today. I was trying to update my memory from 2 to 4g. My system would not boot with the new memory and the bios gave 3 beeps. After removing the new memory, the system would boot to XP but I had no video. I powered down and powered back up. I now had video but the system would hang. In Safe Mode, it would hang after the following entry system32/config/system. Note I never observed any windows error messages, just the hang.

I used the Recovery Console from an XP CD and did a chkdsk /r and chdsk /f
I also ran fixboot

None of these solved the problem.

I then ran fixmbr
Recovery Console displayed some kind of caution message that I had a "invalid" or something MBR and that it might prevent me from access partitions or something.

Well, I ran fixmbr anyway since i was out if ideas.

Now when I try to boot, it is freezing during the post process. When I hit F2 to enter the BIOS setup, it says "entering setup" but it never does. It seems to be hanging right after the drive detect process.
Note I have one standard IDE drive © and 2 SATA drives. Windows XP is installed on one of the SATA drives.

Any ideas? Let me know if you need any more info.

Answer:BIOS Hang, unable to enter BIOS Setup after running FIXMBR

This sounds more like a BIOS = hardware issue. Since you have been inside the case it is possible something got nudged loose. Re-seat your memory and video card if it is an add-on.

Hello: I have a Win7 Ideapad U410. tried upgrading to Windows 10, terrible performance, tried updating to 65cn99ww BIOS for Win8, FUBAR'd everything all the setup for Win10. installed Win8 as the  65cn99ww BIOS was for Win8 but couldn't fflash the 68cn21ww BIOS. Found apparently untouch 65cn13ww bios, flashed and now unresponsive. I can get into the BIOS but no matter what I do it won't try booting anything USB / external USB Install DVD, or HDs. Tried the hold power button for 15 sec without being plugged in to reset the BIOS, going to try disconnecting the battery and try the 15 sec power button reset again.  As it won't boot from a USB I don't think any of the BIOS mod people's tricks will help re-install the bios, especially since I cannot get ahold of the original or other BIOS file without the Lenovo install exe. Any suggestions as to what to do now?- Try to buy a new motherboard?- is it possible to get another BIOS chip?- will disconnecting the BIOS battery help?- Take it to a service agent? or just get a new computer :-( Thanks  Dave

Im working on a Toshiba Laptop A105-4284, Model #: PSAA8U-0FH02K that froze while trying to flash the BIOS, so I didnt know what else to do but shut it off. Now, when I try to boot it up, it gets stuck in the same place it did during the flashing; on the Toshiba splash screen with the status bar at the bottom showing about 20% complete. I cant get into the BIOS and cant boot into Windows. Other options available on this screen are Press F2 for System Settings and F12 for Boot Menu. Pressing F2 results in a beep and the status bar changing to "Please Wait..." but nothing else happens no matter how long I wait. Pressing F12 doesnt do anything. Pressing ESC takes me to a screen that shows the typical system info -- Phoenix Technologies Version 6.00; Intel Calistoga CRB.T3A Reference BIOS; VERSION.MAK 1.53; (looks like its running POST and recognizes CPU, Cores, No TPM or TPM has a problem, and system RAM and stops there. - shorting out the CMOS battery (I've tried this on the solder pads marked C88, with no laptop battery, with and without the wi-fi, ram and hdd installed; Im either doing it wrong or its just not working )
- trying to reflash BIOS chip (I tried this; turned the laptop on and held down the 'c' key to boot from cd, but still got stuck at the same place)
- replacing the BIOS chip

Hi, this is my first post on this site. My friend suggested it for me, so here's the deal:
I'm having quite a few difficulties with my custom PC running Win8. I think most of them relate to just having Win8 beta instead of Win7. Now I have Win7 and I'd very much like to install it, but I need to access my BIOS in order to do so. But here comes the problem that I cannot access my BIOS for some unexplicable reason - at least that's what I think.
I have tried everything you can do when the computer starts - pressing all the F-keys, pressing delete. Delete will make the computer not even go to Windows, but instead just remain a black screen. I'm thinking it's going into the BIOS but for some reason my monitor doesn't pick it up.
Now, I know that all my hardware works perfectly, my monitor can display everything perfectly when I'm inside my OS, and besides a few flaws in the Win8 beta - there's nothing out of the ordinary. Plus I can run heavy games like Sleeping Dogs and Battlefield 3 on highest settings, no problem. I've tried booting with my Win7 install cd in, but it will still give me a black screen.
I've also made sure all drivers for my motherboard are up to date and installed.
Any help would be appreciated!

Motherboard: P8Z77-V (ASUS)
GPU: 2xGTX570 SLI

Hello everyone! I ama new user and i am coming up with this post as I couldn`t find any kind of solution for my problem.Recently I decided to do a reinstallation of my operating system, which also previously was Windows 7 Ultimate (x64). The installation went as usual, and after finishing it I went on to install all the latest drivers from the Lenovo site, for my product. When getting close to installing almost all the drivers i`ve needed, i stumbled upon a new version of the BIOS amnd the drivers and sfotware recommended for my laptop, by the producer. So i proceeded to install the upgrade, restarted the computer when it prompted me to do so, but after the so-called restart the laptop did not boot up as usual. At first it was telling me to not do anything as the BIOS is being flashed and then it was telling me something about some sort of image processing, things that i did not understand at the time (i have never encountered anything like that). After that my screen turned black. I have not done anything for a few couple of minutes as i thought it was supposed to be like that, but then i just force shut it down and unplugged the AC adapter. When trying to boot it all up again, the only thing i got was a black screen and nothing else. After doing a little bit of research it appears that, somehowm i`ve managed to corrupt the bios on my laptop or something, and nothing else would work at this point. I tried to remove the BIOS battery and the ram and then put them all back, trye... Read more

Somehow with guidance from Lenovo Community, I solved the problem.

For future reference:
1. Take out HDD, battery, plug off ac power.
2. Restart, change SATA Controller in BIOS to compatible, restart.
3. Check whether the SATA Controller is Compatible or AHCI. If Compatible, force shutdown laptop.

Answer:FAN CONTROL / BIOS ISSUE -> Ideapad Z360 - newer bios ver. 35CN23WW anyone ? help !

hey kayjay,im currently checking with the engineers about this and will get back to you as soon as i can

Just checked with engineering, It is because those people purchase a new machine and those will normally have  the newest BIOS from manufacturer.

However Lenovo does not always update BIOS to the latest version except that when we need BIOS to solve some problem.

It is normal that the BIOS in the support site not to be the  newest.

Hello, I have updatet BIOS of my notebook sattelite A100.

After updating I cannot start my notebook and BIOS doesn't start.

Answer:Satellite A100 - Windows and BIOS doesn't start after BIOS update

Do you see the Toshiba logo?

Was there a power failure when you updated the BIOS?

Try removing the battery and AC Adapter, and leaving it for a couple of hours. You could also try reseating the RAM.

If that doesn't help, you may need to send it to an Authorized Service Center for repair.

Hello,
I have a Satellite Pro A120 laptop. Has long been asking me for a password when starting.

The BIOS password prompt:
ALERT: System protection failure!
Password =

I found somewhere that is the problem of the BIOS and should be updated. The Official ASP toshiba costs ? 67 plus shipping for resetting the BIOS. Somewhere I found that pressing CTRL, TAB, CTRL and ENTER Response Code asks.
The ASP can provide this code for free?

Thanks.

Answer:Satellite PRO A120 BIOS PASS. RESET BIOS RESPONSE CODE

Hi,

To be honestly, I have no idea about these codes. Try to contact Asp ask them if they provide this code, Don't think if anyone can response this issue in this forum.

Hi, Thanx to shuttles indescript site I have killed my AI61 motherboard, I thought I was getting an executable zip which was actually the flash program + rom and after opening BEEEEEP

Anyway I have a eeprom burner and this eeprom sst39sf020 is right in the list.

Can anyone email me the bios .bin file for this motherboard? (not the file from shuttles site but the old bios file ai61s017.bin so I can flash it using my eeprom burner)

Or at least tell me how to extract the .rom from the exe file shuttle sends

If I get the rom file I will be able to revive this nifty old 750!

PS it appears that shuttle quite sending *.bin bios updates a while ago but if anyone can find ai61s017.bin I would be gratefull

I've found a fully and very easily reproductible battery drain issue (+2.5W consumption!) when not using "Connected Standby" sleep in windows 10.
Here is the detail :
- First, I don't use "Connected Standby" anymore as I've had many occurrences of the computer not going to sleep when closing the lid in "Connected standby" mode. To disable "Connected Standby", you've to put "CsEnabled" to 0 (instead of 1)  in \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Power.
- I use BatteryBar v3.6.6 to monitor power consumption in realtime (it works really well)
- The problem is the following : on my 9360 QHD+ with backling at 15%, when doing vitually nothing on Windows 10, the power consumption is between 3000 and 4000 mW when I cold start Windows 10. Then, if I close the lid for a few seconds (to put the computer to sleep) and open it up again, the consumption is then between 5500 and 6500 mW. No matter the number of times I re-close/re-open the lid, I then never can have between 3000 and 4000 mW again. The overconsumption is about 2500 mW compared to the normal initial power consumption
- This problem never happened with BIOS 1.0.7, I tried it dozens of time on different units of 9360
- The problem appeared with BIOS 1.2.3 and is now still present in 1.3.2
- The problem is clearly linked to the Thunderbird BIOS update that occured in BIOS 1.2.3. If I disable the Thunderbird port in BIOS 1.3.2, I have no batte... Read more

Hi,for my Notebook its possible to get additional settings in the bios. But this is just possible by entering a special key combination.I did that months before, and it worked well. After entering the Bios I had to type 3 or 4 Keys together. After that, a additional menu appears and I was able to change the CPU settings and more.Sadly Ive forgotten that combination, and I didnt find it on the internet again. I think, that one of the Keys was the "Ins"-Button. Maybe "Shift" and "Strg" were also involved. So I hope for your expertise. Many greetings from EuropeHans Notebook: Lenovo G550Bios: Phoenix V2.51 (18CN42WW)

This laptop came with DDR3 1066 4gb ram (0914 model), and I upgraded it with 8gb of 1333 DDR3, yet the laptop only utilizes the ram speed of the 1066 still, (confirmed using several diagnostic utilities; AIDA 64, Speccy, etc) I need to be able to access the advanced options in the bios to configure the ram timings. Normallly (all the time) the bios "advanced menus" are non-existant, but this ONE time where I booted it up and by luck it had ALL insydeh20 bios options unlocked (don't ask me why I chose to fiddle with the bios at that exact moment, I dont recall  ) Anyway, I was hoping that there was maybe a key combination or something that I had inadvertadely pressed at that time to access these advanced options. I spent extra money getting this ram off newegg vs the original 1066 replacement oem (it was recomenned by newegg i go with the 1333)... I would hate to see my money somewhat wasted due to not being able to utilize the full clock speed of the new ram.  I should add that I have done extensive google research on this topic and I have fiddled around with modifying the "EFI" of bios to create my own custom rom, but should it really be so hard? Lenovo should allow us access to this naturally. And the i5 480m is stock clocked at 2.69 ghz but can "turbo" up to 2.9ghz. To me, I the only thing I see keeping me from reaching the 1333 is the bios menus being hidden away. If anyone has some insight on this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Answer:Ideapad Z560 Question about Insydeh2O BIOS configuration - RAM Timings, Bios Advances Options

The site Compuram clearly show that your system can run on the 1333mhz ram, I think you should try updating your chipset drivers in device man.  P.S. You could try Intel Driver Update Utility and do an auto detect to see if it will update your chipset drivers to see if they work with the 1333mhz ram

Hi,  I have a Thinkpad Yoga S1 which has served me well for a year or so.  Recently it has started to develop a problem where it "stalls" upon boot.  1. Laptop is powered off2. Press power button3. laptop keyboard lights up and fan begins spinning4. about 3 seconds later the entire system shuts down5. The process repeats Sometimes I can leave it in this cycle for 3+ minutes and it'll just keep cycling. If I close the screen it halts the cycle (shuts the computer down) and occassionally upon power up it'll cycle a couple of times and then boot into Windows. Here is a video of the symptom: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THCn6yFuprY   When it has booted into Windows, I have taken the liberty of running a Lenovo Solution Centre hardware scan. Processor, Memory and Motherboard all came back good. However, when I tried to update the BIOS, the system returned an "Error-116 Failed to read BIOS from ROM" Further, "Error 116" is listed as an IBM System board read/write error.  Unfortunately my warranty ran out a couple of months ago, so I'm looking at a self fix, and don't have any appetite to pay 800 for a new main board (besides, the one in my laptop was a new one installed by IBM under a warranty repair 4 months ago! It shouldn't be broken).  Can anyone suggest any fixes?

Did you try to update the BIOS using Win-based BIOS?

What OS do you use?

Hi. I have a Lenovo B50-30 mode 80ES. It was set to require a password on startup starting with a capital "A". While experiencing charging problems, amongst other things, I updated the BIOS to 9CCN35WW, downloaded from the Lenovo support site. Since updating, the laptop no longer asks for a password on startup (No big deal, I applied a windows password), however, when pressing F2 to access the BIOS (which I need to do, the F keys are the wrong way round), it asks for a password, When pressing to strike a capital A, the laptop beeps and doesnt enter it. It wont accept capital letters anymore, therefore it wont accept the pre BIOS update password. I have referred the laptop to Lenovo service, including returning the laptop, and they have been nothing short of useless. They said they couldnt repair it under warranty because of "Marks, cracks, inappropriate treatment" and it would cost 255 for a replacement system board. I really couldnt see why I should pay for an issue created by their support system, so I asked them to return it unrepaired. Upon arrival, the laptop was immaculate, so I dont know what damage they were referring to. Is it possible to downgrade the BIOS to a pre update revision, to change the password and then reset it to one the new BIOS approves of? Thankyou in advance.

BIOS updates to my ThinkPad T460p seem to have been fine, up until going from 2.19 to 2.20.  Upon trying to upgrade to 2.20, I get the following message:  I cannot boot from USB key, I get the same issue.  This includes attempting with an older BIOS like 2.18; the same error message occurs even when not in Windows. Is there a way to force-flash the BIOS to get it back on track or is there some option I can try?  I only have a few remaining days left on my warranty, so I don't have much time left to open a support case if there's nothing else I can do other than replace the mainboard.

I have a Toshiba M400 and i was wondering how i could reset the bios password. I disabled the finger print scanner recently becuase i decided i dont need it anymore but it still asks for a bios password which i forgot. I used to just swipe my finger and it would let me boot up and all that gravey.

If you guys know how to reset the password. Either physically or through software that would be awesome.

Or if you guys know who is the bios manufacturer for Portege M400's I could probebly give them a call and ask my self.

I could send it in but I want to avoid that and leave it as a last option.

BTW this laptop was purchased in USA.

You will be not able to remove the BIOS password yourself if you have forgotten it.
As far as I know the manufacture of the BIOS which was preinstalled on Port?g? M400 is......... Toshiba ;)

So you have to contact the authorized Toshiba service provider in your country and only these guys are able to remove the BIOS password which you have forgotten.

I have a HP pavilion dv6-2020EV Note book.
I downloaded an update for Bios "sp50586.exe" from Hp site an extract it. after that a program (Insyde Flash V 3.80.00) Loaded and I pushed start button.
after some time I made mistake an pushed my notebook Power Button. The note book became shutdown and now I see only Black screen.

I performed some actions with HP online guide like pushing Power button for above 1 minute, removing Coin battery, Connecting notebook to another monitor and even removing Hard Disk. I get no reply from machine.

Now the power LED is on, and I can hear sound of DVD Rom when I put a Disc in it. But I can see only Black screen.
also I tried to load Recovery disc of the note book but it could not be loaded.

Would you please Help me. I have no solution. I lost my notebook.

How did HP end the service call-did they offer any further solutions?

Can you direct me to the support page for your model? I can only find it at HP India using Google cache--the actual website seems to be offline. [I want to double check that they were recommending the sp50586 for that model.]

Also, is there a longer model number on the tag on the bottom of the laptop? It might be useful for finding others who have experienced the problem. [There appears to be a BIOS recovery flash option that might work but it is important to have the right version of the BIOS to attempt it.] Since that update is so new there are not many people experiencing the same problems. Your laptop has an Intel processor?

Hello all, this is my first time posting here so please forgive any mistakes/oversights. I've just updated my Samsung laptop's system BIOS via their software update program, and my Nvidia GPU (GT 650m DDR3) no longer seems to work. The Nvidia control panel is still there, and it still gives me the option to select which programs use the GPU, but there is no GPU actitivity showing up. Also,I've tried playing Skyrim (which auto-detects the PC's graphics cards) , and the game no longer seems to detect the Nvidia GPU (just the Intel integrated graphics).

My laptop model is NP550PC7, with 6 gig of ram, and an i7 quad core CPU, and the OS is Window 7 Home Premium 64bit.

I've tried looking in the BIOS but I can't seem to find anything related to the GPU or display options. Any help or avice is much appreciated.

I removed battery and destroyed the rubber on the bottom. I had to open the laptop, because one morning I got the massegae that my laptop is overheated and fan does not work properly. Both fans works only during the lounch, when windows works only one fan was in operations, second one never starts again. Looking for the solution in the internet I have found that this can be because of BIOS is not updated.  I pushed F2, checked the the system, everything is fine and then I installed only one version which I have found there. No massages regarding overheating any more, both Fans are working full power and very very loud. I have posted a few questions regarding getting samsung 950 pro (NVME M.2 ssd) to be recognized quickly on boot by ENVY 750-170SE cto rom family id #2b4b and it hasn't been resolved.  I am pretty sure that HP will need to create a newer bios than the a.08 version that i have or the lower versioned number a.07 which is available from HP's website (even though it has a newer date than a.08 (this is really strange))  -  How do i go about getting HP to release a beta or final bios that shortens my boot time by 3 minutes?  Am i posting in the wrong area, if so where do i post?  I am not alone with this problem.  see SpearfishX post #21 - and i am unable to post in this forum, it needs to be reopened and addressed - http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Envy-750se-capable-of-M-2-NVMe-u...

@FrozenGamer? If your PC takes 3 minutes to boot in a factory condition then you should contact HP support. If your PC is less than 21 days old then quickly return it.  Without any modifications, your PC should be booting up in less than 30 seconds. I haven't seen any official HP posted information that supports NVMe m.2 SSDs.  Run the HP Support Assistant and see if it picks up a later BIOS update. HP's support number is 800-474-6836 or 800-HPINVENT or online here.

tatot,

What was your BIOS version before the flashing? (BIOS version compatibility)

If it was a 1.x version you can only flash with another 1.x version, if it was a 2.x version you can only flash with another 2.x version.
If your system shipped with Windows 7 and you upgraded to Windows 8 you cannot use the ones marked "Not for Ugrades"

If you are unable to reflash you will need to contact the Acer Technical Support in your area for options.

Computer failed during upgrade of bios. I have followed all the steps to recover bios: taken out battery, pressed windows + B + power, restore screen appears. Computer goes thru bios restore process and verification. When it gets to the 'count down to windows start up' and 'continue to restart button', the computer freezes and does not restart. I have pressed the continue button, nothing. I have let the count down continue and it stops at 1 then nothing.

I tried to booting the computer and received the Award Boot Block Bios and BIOS checksun error. It detects the cdrom but I dont have the CD. Where can I get the cd, like where to download it.

Motherboard: ASUS P5LP-LE (LimeStone)

I don't remember the rest.
I found the site for the motherboard. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...cc=us&product=470506&dlc=en&docname=c00379422

Backgorund:
I was having some probelms, which the computer wouldn't start at all and a really loud sound the fan made, so I called my insurance, and they came and change the mother board twice and added a new cooling fan and power supply. All this took two months for waiting for the parts and making an appoinment with the tech.

After replacing the motherboard twice the tech told me I'm gonna order new harddrive, I don't think is the motherboard or the fan. Before leaving he suggested me to call me inusrance and tell them that you want a new computer cause its been more than two months and there has been four calls already. So, I called the insurance and got a new computer and kept the old one.

A week after receiving my new computer I took the old one for repair but at didn't at the end after they told me how much it would cost me to get it fix. Now, I'm deciding to do it myself but, I boot the computer and received something about Award Boot Block Bios. I remember the tech putting a cd to the computer when he tr... Read more

Hello, I need to update the bios on 2 T43 2686 machines. However after hours of searching, I cant find useable files. The Lenovo site files download but the diskless one wont run on my system and the diskette file wont execute. I have upgraded to Windows 7. There is a link on the diskette page for instructions on how to make or create the diskette but that link is a dead link. Lenovo has basically told me "oh well". Extensive Google searches have not helped. Can anyone tell me where to get the most current version of the Bios (1.29) and EC (1.06)? Or the instructions on using the diskette creation file? One of the laptops is unuseable due to an issue that I believe is corrected in the current Bios/EC FW. Thank you.  John
