Flash drive not working properly? stmp3410

Question: Flash drive not working properly? stmp3410

Well, I'll try to give you as much info as possible.. I have an old mp3 player which I now only use as a 64 meg flash drive. It' called the Creative MuVo. Lately, I haven't been able to access the "removable disk" under my computer. When I plug it in, it seems to recognize that SOMETHING has been plugged into it (my pc), but it either gives me three beeps then does nothing and shows nothing, or gives me the found new hardware: stmp3410. Then it tries to auto download somthing, then, doesnt seem to find anything. This has never happened before. Is my flash drive broken? Or is there something Im now doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Flash drive not working properly? stmp3410

The only thing I can think of is that maybe you need to update usb drivers for your motherboard, or maybe It came with drivers itself(I doubt it) that need to be updated. Other than that, this is the best advice I can give.

Something is wrong with my flash drive. I've been saving files to it, and each time before disconnecting I go to "stop" the drive before removing it. However, most of my files have been lost on it, reduced to some obscure format that I can't work with. Also, each time I put it in, I get this message asking me if I want to scan and fix errors on the flash drive. Selecting "more options" reveals that, apparently, it's not a Windows XP drive.

What is going wrong? Is there some way to just re-format the entire zip drive and start from scratch?

EDIT: I put this in the wrong forum. Can a mod please move it to the WinVista forum?

I think the problem is flash. Some sites don't display properly, like Facebook
Other sites, like TSG look totally fine. I see all the adds and everything is in place

I tried disabling Flash in Firefox 4.0, uninstalling Flash, then re-installing it and then enabling it in FF 4.0, but that didn't do anything

Any idea as to what the problem is?

I had adobe flash player 9 installed on my computer but I tried to uninstall it because it never worked properly. Everytime I would access the internet images would be choppy and then an error message would appear with "an error has occured with the following add-on: adobe flash-player 9" and another message would come up with internet explorer must now close.
When I hit "details" on the error message, a blank window would open so i never found out the error code.
I tried following the microsoft troubleshooting guide.. but when the guide said to delete the macromed folder my system wouldn't let me. a message would come up saying "cannot delet flash9.ocx: it is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using this file and try again". no other windows were open.

How do I make flash player work correctly? Do i really need to delete that folder to reinstall the player correctly?
Please help.

Answer:flash player not working properly

sometimes the "it is being used by another person or program" error can be fixed by simply unplugging the cpu fron ac power source for a couple of minutes, then hooking up the power & restarting...this clears out some sort of cache that will release the resource...not very technical, I know, but worth a try

maybe then you could delete the flash9.ocx file and try the other fix

Well, what my problem is, is that when I go onto a site that requires Flash (for example when I go on to my MySpace site, which has 'Flash Toys' on it which require Flash to run, or when I try to watch Flash videos), they do not work, only show blank areas.

When I try to watch a Flash video, it simply doesn't load, only shows a QuickTime logo with a '?' in the middle, on a white background. Here's exactly what is displayed (I'm sorry if images aren't allowed on the forums):

When I try to access a MySpace with 'Flash Toys' (which need Flash to work), I see the below (blank boxes, where things such as countdown timers, drawing boards etc should normally be shown and be able to be used), and the web page loads slower than when Flash is working (without QuickTime installed). When I close the window, it freezes, and after around 5 minutes a message titled 'Windows Internet Explorer' is displayed:

I've narrowed down the problem to QuickTime player, as when it isn't installed, Flash works. When it is installed, it doesn't work. By the way, this isn't a fluke; I just tried it again now before I posted this, and the only program installed/uninstalled was QuickTime, and no settings were changed.

I've researched this a bit on the Internet, and it came up with articles such as http://www.oreillynet.com/mac/blog/2...3_disable.html or http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=367848, but they have not helped my problem; any 'solutions' I found haven't worked. In... Read more

my corsair flash voyager gt just doesn't work any more. I have tried this both on my windows vista system and my school's xp laptops, when I plug it in it detects and installs the drivers and it pops up on my computer, and shows on device manager as totally functional (on vista, cant tell on the school compies). When I attempt to access it, the window freezes and after force closing explorer.exe crashes. Please tell me if you need any additional info/tests. I am relatively sure that corsair would replace it if I took the time to RMA it, though i would prefer if I could just rescue it now.
Any ideas? Need more info?
Please say so!!!

Hi,

I have a couple of SanDisk 8GB Cruzer Micro USB Flash Drives that don't display consistently in Win 7 Disk Management. They are labeled SANDISK 1 and SANDISK 2. They appear properly as a drive icon with SANDISK 2 drive letter M or SANDISK 1 drive letter K in Win 7 Computer - Devices with Removable Storage, but intermittently appear properly in Win 7 Disk Management. For example, in the Volume list in the top window, I see only an disk icon under volume, nothing under File System, but Layout, Type, Status, Capacity, Free Space and the remainder of the columns appear normal.

Also, in the graphical display in the lower portion of the center section below the Volume list section, the left column appears normal, but the graphical portion to the right only displays 7.50GB, Healthy (Primary Partition), the label and drive letter are not displayed. Also, when I right click the displayed device in the left column, I get a pop-up entitled SanDisk Cruzer USB Device Properties, but when I click the Volumes Tab, I can't select the Volume and click Properties, because only a drive icon and capacity are displayed, the Propertied button is greyed out.

Interestingly, the above description is for when I have only one of the USB devices plugged into the system. When I plug the second USB device into the system, it displays properly without any issues. I don't think it's a device issue, because I can get either to display properly if it's the second USB device attached as indicated in ... Read more

I have been searching for a few days for information on this issue and so far nothing has worked. My issue is that my DVD drive IS recognized but it does not correctly read DVD's. After installing Windows 8 Pro and doing all the current updates I have been fixing small issues here and there but overall nothing major. I have a 2010 Office Professional Plus DVD set that I was using fine on Windows 7 that I cannot install now. When I place the disk in the drive the autoplay opens with ONLY the option to "Open Folder to View Files" and nothing else. When I do that there are only 2 files inside and nothing I can use to install the media on the disk. The troubleshooters I have run and the automatic "fix it for me" are fooled by the 2 files on the disk and report that it is working fine. I have uninstalled the driver and rebooted. I did the Command Prompt add "HK.......0x00000001" whatever it is copied right from the post on the windows support page. I have uninstalled the driver and manually installed the driver from the manufacturers website using windows 7 compatibility mode from esupport.sony with no luck. The registry shows it as a CD drive not a DVD drive and the default value shows "value not set." There are also no lines for upper filter or lower filter to delete.

I would greatly appreciate it if anyone is familiar with this kind of issue. The DVD drive does appear in my list of drives. The driver is up to date. When I... Read more

I have a Dell Dimension desktop with a P4, 2.2 GHz processor using Windows XP home. I noticed a problem with my dvd-rw drive when attempting to copy and burn movies. The burning process failed to copy properly. I have a dvd-RW drive that shows up in My Computer as a DVD-r drive. When checking device manager, a NEC_DVD_RW_ND-2510A is listed as working properly. I tried to uninstall the drive and reboot. On rebooting, the drive is recognized and when the driver installs, a bubble appears listing as a cd-rom. It should show up in My Computer as a DVD-RW drive but does not. Please help. Thanks.

Hi,
i was using my pen drive and i thought of restarting my desktop Hp, then when booting the pc system checked in the USB pen drive for errors! Now when i removed the pen drive and again inserted into the USB port, it never worked! I checked in for another USB ports, it were working correctly! So at that moment i checked in the hardware device manager, after removing hardware from the system USB pen drive, there was a yellow exclamation in the USB mass storage category! So i uninstalled the drivers and again let the reinstallation after restarting, but the specific faulty USB port is still not working! So i even removed the wire connection (of the USB hardware) and again reconnected, perhaps i thought the system might acquire it as a new installation hardware! But no, its not working. Any solutions in correcting it?

My cd drive 'NEC DVD_RW ND2500-A' has stopped allowing me to burn cds (i only use WMP for this). This has started happening since i installed a new version of XP pro. I can still play CDs and DVDs, just not WRITE them.

In the drives properties box the 'recording' tab had disapeared. I have managed to bring this tab back by editing the registry and changing the Drive Type DWORD Value from 3 to 1. This brought back the recording tab and allowed me to re-enable recording on the drive, but WMP is still telling me to 'connect a burning device' and the 'write these files to cd' function through my computer is telling me there is no cd in the drive when there actually is.

Another thing baffling me is the extra drive that has appeared 'SUO299K FHV909S SCSI SDRom Device'. This is listed next to my NEC drive and appears in my computer, although i only have one drive connected.

I have uninstalled BOTH through device manager, rebooted, and both reappear, with me having to edit the registry AGAIN to bring the 'recording' tab back. I even tried new firmware but no luck.

I don't know what else to try! Help please! :cool

(i should maybe mention that i had formatted my hard drives before installing new XP, and that i removed the IDE cables connecting both the HDDs and the CD Drive to the mobo. Could i have maybe got them mixed up when connecting to the mobo? the 2 IDEs connect right next to each other)

This is on my Toshiba SA-40-702 Satellite lap top. It's five years old.
Hi, I have been looking at the threads for this problem and have not been able to spot a similar thread yet.

My dvd-rw WILL play a purchased audio music cd, and it will also work with the discs which were supplied with the laptop. S something is working OK......However, I have recently tried burning a music track (from i-tunes) and it showed up blank, but strangeley the cd did play the music track OK in a machine at work. I have now tried to view some other discs which I recorded on this laptop in january, and they now show as blank discs and I can't see their contents (they were text documents and photos). They were working before.

I have this weekend made many attempts to burn 30 photos, and I have tried two different makes of blank dvd discs, but although the laptop says "burning to disc" etc, when I try to view the burned disc, there is nothing on it !!!

I wonder if anyone has any suggestions please. I have tried to clean the little blue eye with a fine hair brush inside dvd drawer, so I expect the next step may be to just buy some newer discs ????

Have you tried to reinstall the creating tool for CD/DVD your are using?
Something interesting would be, if you could test the photo dvds you made, on another computer, to see if files were actually put on disc or not.

And try to use blank CDs/DVDs from other manufacturers as well.

You could check the floppies in another pc to see if they are ok. If they are then check/change the floppy cable. If this doesn't work then buy a new drive. You'll get change from a tenner.

Hi, it's my first time posting on this forums and I was hoping somone could help me.

I have a Pioneer DVR-213NP dvd drive and lately its been giving me some problems. Before, it worked perfectly but now, DVDs that used to work cannot even be detected. After I place the DVD in the drive, My Computer does not detect the disc. It says "Please insert a disc in D: drive" everytime I put a disc in. The weird thing is CD-ROMs work fine...just DVDs giving problems.

Any suggestions on what I should do or should I just get a replacement drive?

I'm on Vista 64bit BTW.

I have a Dell Inspiring 5150 laptop. I purchased an external USB hard drive, but it doesn't want to work properly on my computer, but on my friends computer it works.

When I connect it to mine, it will connect for a few seconds and then disconnect again without any warning. This usually happens the first time I attach it after starting the computer up. After that it connects and disconnects immediately. The drive is formatted. Neither the Windows Setup program, nor the Linux setup program detects it either.

Does anyone have any idea of what can be wrong?

Thanks.

I had to reformat my hard drive and re-install windows home xp. Now I fnd that my installed CD writer is not recognised when a blank cd is inserted and my external cd/dv writer is in the same stuation. I disconected the external and re connected but now it is showing an extra drive?I have gone through the obvious checks and see they are rcognised in all sections and ticked as enabled and no conflicts showing.I have tried reinstalling drivers but get message you have latest available!Any one any ideas. If I delete the drives will they automaticaly reinstall?

Answer:CD drive and CD/DV Drives not working properly

Both drives only need the basic Windows CDROM driver - normally Uninstalling in Device Manager and rebooting cures this problem. Also check that the leads and power connections are correctly and firmly fitted. You will also have to make one drive (the main one) the Master and the second the Slave.

My DVD drive issue is driving me crazy. I've spent hours searching forums and tried all the fixes I could find and it is still not working properly.

The drive works occasionally and it also works outside windows so I don't think the problem is with the actual hardware. When I insert a readable disc, sometimes it registers that a disc is present but shows it as blank. Sometimes it doesn't even register that a disc is present. When I try to burn music from Windows Media Player, it might burn the first couple of songs OK but the rest fail. Then when I try to play the successful songs, it shows the disc as being blank.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. I've tried the registry keys fix. Device manager states the device is working properly.

Today I discovered the Microsoft automated troubleshooting service (Fix It) and it actually fixed the problem and I was able to read the disc. However, when I removed the disc and reinserted it, it wouldn't read it again. I tried the automated troubleshooting service again and this time it failed. The message I received was "Media in CD/DVD drive is not readable. The drive is empty or the media format is not supported".

PC World support says I have to do an entire recovery but that will wipe everything from my computer.

What is going on?? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello Everyone.
J'm facing a serious problem with my Floppy Drive.
The thing is that when j try to copy something to a floppy disk j get a lot of Blue screen's of death, which say:
"Disk write Error"
"Unable to write to the disk in drive A:"
"Data or files may be lost."

Somethimes j receive and windows error messages like:
"Cannot Copy"
"The disk is write protected."
"Remove the write-protection or use another disk."

Says about the write protection but the disk is not write protecded at all???
J tried 15 diferenet floppy disks like "Verbatim", "Sony", "Basf" and in every case it's the same thing, errors all the way. J tried these floppy disks on other PC and they work fine.
J tried to clean the Floppy Drive but it didn't help at all, j tried to change the power cable, and the FDD cable, but still the same thing???
At last j bought a new NEC Floppy Drive and j thought that my misery is over, BUT STILL THE SAME ERRORS AND BSOD'S.
Next j tried to re-install Win98-no good, then tried with Win98SE-no good, and at last with Win2000Pro-no good.
PLEASE, PLEASE POST SOME ANSWERS BECAUSE WHATEVER J DO IT'S NO GOOD, IF SOMEONE CAN HELP HE'S WELCOMED. J'M DESPERATE.

Answer:Floppy Drive not working properly

well i couldn't spend too much time because i am on my lunch break right now, but since you have replaced the drive and are still having problems, I think its one of several things:

-Your operating system has corrupted floppy controller drivers. Try reinstalling them through device manager. The drivers are on your OS CD.

-Your actually FDD controller on the motherboard is fried. Short of replacing the motherboard, or buying some IDE PCI controller board just because it has an extra FDD controller on it, you may have to switch to an LS120 drive which is an IDE device but read normal floppies plus high capacity 120MB disks as well.

-Did you try replacing the floppy cable?

Hi,
I have a HP Pavilion Media Center a1515in Desktop PC.
A few days ago, as my DVD writer was not working properly, i had made a complaint and a Hp technician replaced my DVD writer with a new one as it was under warranty. The hp technician while checking had uninstalled and again reinstalled the dvd drivers and also did deleted some strings in regedit...something like upper and lower filter! After replacing the DVD writer and saving the settings, the next day i opened up my 'event viewer' and then i saw these error logs-
Event Viewer
Application
Source- SysmonLog Event id- 2028
Description-
The Service was unable to add the counter '\PhysicalDisk[_total]\Avg. Disk Queue Length' to the System Overview log or alert. This log or alert will continue, but data for that counter will not be collected. The error returned is: The specified object is not found on the system.

Source- PerfDisk Event id- 2001
Description-
Unable to read the disk performance information from the system. Disk performance counters must be enabled for atleast one physical disk or logical volume in order for these counters to appear. Disk performance counters can be enabled by using the Hardware Device Manager property pages. Status code returned is data DWORD 0

Then i even checked in-

Administrative Tools
Performance
Console Root
System Monitor

Under troubleshooting section-

Objects, counters, or instances are missing or invalid.

Cause: Test routines that run ... Read more

Answer:Drive Monitoring not working properly!

Okay before you checked the even viewer what was wrong with the PC? The burner just not working? Going slow what?

The event viewer shows a lot of info but not much that pertains to your DVD. At least from what i can see. **** even my event viewer shows a bunch of errors. Yet my system runs fine.

So in reality your event viewer will alwasy show something. As something is always wrong. So to fix your PC we need to know what is wrong with it.

I built a new system with a evga 650i mobo, core 2 duo, 2 gig ram, and wd sata drive. This is with xp home. When testing the drive speed in device manager under sata controller with all boxes checked, it shows 94 mg burst speed and 79 mg sustained speed. It says theoretical speed 300 mg. Are these speeds correct? If they're too slow how do I correct this? These are the same whether windows or the bios determines the speed. The system takes 40 seconds to boot to desktop. Is this correct or slow?

Answer:sata hard drive-is it working properly?

That doesn't sound right. I get 80 MB/sec on a normal IDE drive and 70 on an external USB 2.

What is on that drive? Is it being accessed by anything during the test?

Try HD Tune with as many programs shut down as possible. Turn off ReadyBoost on that drive if using it and you have Vista (What OS?). Disable any pagefiles if you put one on that drive.

Fix DVD Drive or buy external drive

My DVD drive is not working properly, in fact it may never have been working proper. Recently I tried to back up my PC to a DVD using Norton 360. Norton did not recognize the DVD was present. I then tried writing a text file to a DVD and was unsuccessful. Both DVD+R and DVD-R media were tried (Maxwell 16X).

I could have probably lived with this however, I got a copy of Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 10 on a CD and my Toshiba would not recognize it. I tried the CD in my neighbors laptop and it was recognized.

An attempt at updating the driver was also unsuccessful.

I was able to rip a music CD last night so that at least is working correctly.

Does anybody know how I can fix this? The important part is being able to load my new program.

Searching some forums I've found that other people have had problems with the Pioneer drive. If the drive cannot be fixed I am not adverse to buying an external DVD drive. Unfortunately where I live there are no brick-and-mortar stores which sell external drives and I would prefer to avoid the hassle of getting a drive online and discovering that it does not work with my Toshiba. Can anyone suggest an external USB drive which will read and write CDs and DVDs and which is certain to be compatible with my Toshiba?

Thank you for any help,

Any external USB CD/DVD drive will be compatible with your laptop.

However you wont be able to boot of CD's (Run Recovery for example) if you use an external drive.

So your best option would be to replace the internal drive with a Toshiba drive designed for the laptop. Call an ASP and ask for a quotation.

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 3650 Desktop (Saturday 7/30/16). I needed to load programs on with some cd's and the dvd/cd drive would not recognize the discs. I did some checking on line and found out that the drives do not work because Microsoft does not include a media player with their operating systems anymore. I looked at some options and eventually downloaded VLC (Sunday 7/31/16). Everything seemed to work great until Microsoft did a Windows Update on Monday 8/1/16. The dvd/cd drive has not worked since. The drive acts like it wants to work but does not recognize anything that I put in. Is there anything I can do short of taking the computer back in for repairs?Thank you

This is a recent problem. I have a Toshiba Canvio external drive, not SSD. It's got Bitlocker, so when I turn my PC on or awake from sleep, I have to enter a password to access the drive. Now, if I restart my PC, it works fine. Recently though, when I awaken from sleep, I'll click on the drive to enter the password, and Windows does this eternal loading thing. The address bar in Explorer has that green progress bar moving along, but it never finishes. If I unplug the drive and plug it back in, I can enter the password and access the drive, but after a while it'll start doing to eternal loading thing again. I doesn't seem like it would be the drive; the drive doesn't know whether the PC is freshly restarted or coming back from sleep.

Answer:External Bitlocker drive not working properly after sleep.

I think it may be an explorer problem. I had the problem with the drive again today after awaking my PC, and tried restarting the explorer process. The explorer UI (windows, task bar, start menu, etc.) is gone, but it won't restart and won't go away when I click "end task"

Hello
Recently, my computer started suddenly to work slowly. I restarted it. Then it took 25 minutes to lunch my windows xp Pro. Everytime I tried to launch an application it bugged and restarted again. After making a scandisk, I decided to reinstall my OS with the recovery CD, but the computer still working slowly. For instance, when I opened Internet Explorer, I can't move the mouse or do anything else while it's loading the content of the page; everything is locked.

When I tried to launch the scandisk, I have the same error message ( but the folder is always different) like these examples :

1- Disk defragmenter can not continue prescan because there's a CORRUPTION in file:
C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\System\SCRIPTS

2- Disk defragmenter can not continue prescan because there's a CORRUPTION in file:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\OOBE\HTML\SDLMAIN

What can be the problem? is it a virus or an hardware problem ?

Answer:The hard drive of Portege R100 is not working properly

Hi,

it?s nor a virus neither a hardware problem. It?s a corrupted filesystem. I suggest you to backup your whole important data and perform a reinstall of your system with the recovery CD.
So you will be after that on the secure side. :)

Just try it, I am sure it would help you.

The device Microsoft PS/2 Mouse is reporting "tv-ConfigMgrErr24" this device will not be available until the issue is resolved. The plug and play ID for this device is ACP1\PNP0F03\4-1D01FCF-0

Resolution 1. Verify the correct driver is installed
2. Try updating the drivers using windows update
3. Check with the manufacturer for an updated driver
4. Attempt to uninstall and then reinstall the device using Device Manager

My problem is- I don't know how to verify (new to windows 7) this is new pc. mouse & keyboard came

Hello,

I'm running a Windows 10 Pro 64bit desktop PC and I'm trying to map network drives. I have always been able to map them correctly using the IP Address of the drive and browsing. But for some reason recently (I realized I forgot to map a drive, so I went to add it) I have not been able to. I go to the network drive mapping wizard, type in the IP address and hit browse like I did before and the drive doesn't appear, other PCs I can connect to do, but not the drive. I also tried hitting finish instead of browse and it gives me an error of "Windows cannot access \\ Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve nbetwork problems, click diagnose." I diagnose, and it finds no issues.

When I try instead to map it as a network location, I type in the IP address and click browse, and the drive is there and can map as a network location. But not as a drive. And I have NO idea why. All network sharing is turned on, and I've been searching forums to try to find the solution and haven't found anyone with exactly the same problem yet. I've tried various things and still no luck.

Answer:Mapping as a network drive function not working properly

I have a network drive shared out on my router. I can map a drive letter to it using the drive mapping wizard by typing:
\\ <IP address of router> \ <share name>

Are you sure the drive you want to map is still shared out on the device you are trying to connect to?

I see this thread is marked 'solved'. Does that mean you have sorted it out for yourself now?

Buddy, this is NOT CD/DVD drive issue?

I guess you see the ?files? with the extension .cda
These ?files? are not real audio files but this is format used for encoding music on all commercial compact discs.
Unfortunately, the computer can't store files in CDA format.
Such audio files needs to be converted to another format using 3rd party converter software

Hello friends, I'm an advanced user, I have just cleanly installed Windows 7 RTM on my Compaq Presario CQ45-205AU laptop. Every thing worked fine including the driver which I downloaded from their website(Select software and drivers Compaq Presario CQ45-205AU Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (India - English)). But when I plugged in my USB pen drive (Kingston data traveler and Moser baer) it simply didn't detect it. Though in device manager it's listing them. When I plug them Windows says the driver for this device isn't properly installed. But when I open MY computer USB icon isn't there. These pen drives are working fine in my desktop PC in which Windows XP is installed. I guess Windows 7 has some driver problem regarding USB mass storage device that's why it's not installing that driver automatically for these drives. Are you folks also facing the same problem ? If not, then can you tell me some solution for it ?

Thanks

I plug it into the computer, it appears in explorer but no size is displayed. when trying to open it, it just keeps loading forever until you take it out. i tried formatting it with a windows disc but all i did was turn it into a "RAW" partion. i tried to properly format it again with the same windows xp disc and it just hangs. i tried formatting with with a windows 7 disc as well and no difference. i tried formatting it with CMD and after half an hour I gave up. help!

Did you unplug the usb drive without telling the hardware to disconnect on the task bar?

or it may be that you plugged it into a front usb port on a strange computer which had incorectly wired front usb ports and that killed it.

let me know if either of these are the case there may still be an option to recover the data from the key.

I have this flash drive:
http://www.amazon.com/PNY-Turbo-Performance-Drive-P-FD128TBOP-GE/dp/B00FE2N1WS

And I am afraid it is dead. When I plug it in, 50% of the time, the red light constantly flashes at about 8 flashes a second, or flashes 3-4 times quickly before just shutting off and nothing happens.

If it is in constant flashing mode, I can open my windows explorer and see "Removable disk", however it is slightly transparent, and when I try to open it, it says "Please insert a drive", which leads me to believe the computer detects it, but can't read it. The properties window shows 0 bytes. Is there any hope at all of getting my ~65gb of used data off of this thing at all? Do I have to take it apart and do some soldering? Please help.

Your flash drive probably has a damaged controller. If that data is important, best chance of retrieving your data would be a professional data recovery service. The cost of recovery depends on how extent is the damage of your disk.

Hey guys, I've really come to my wit's end with this problem. I have a PNY Attache USB 2.0 Flash Drive and for some reason it is just not working. I have a Windows XP Professional, and I've already used the flash drive on it and it worked just fine. But now, all of a sudden, it just stopped working. It works fine on all my other computers, including my Vista and my second XP Professional, but for some reason it just suddenly stopped working here. When I put it into the USB port, the light on the flash drive flashes for a moment but then it doesn't do anything. The computer doesn't even act like anything is in there. The UDISK: E icon doesn't appear in the "My Computer" window and the computer basically doesn't do anything. I know it's nothing wrong with the USB port itself because it works whenever I plug anything else into it. My flash drive is fairly new and, as said before, works fine on other computers. I already checked the USB port controls and all of them are enabled. I totally don't know what to do right now, so could someone please help me?

I have a very important USB 2.0 flash drive. This evening when I plug it into my computer, Windows will not recognize it. The drive has a little light that usually goes on when I plug it in; this light is not on. I have tried putting the drive into 2 other computers.

Please, please tell me there is something I can do.

Answer:USB 2.0 Flash Drive not working

Have you tried, after you plug it in, to click on My Computer, and see if the drive is showing there? If it is you can open it from there.

OK, this is a little strange. I have an Apacer 128Mb flash drive. On one of my computers when I plug it in it shows up as a drive, but when I try to copy files to it I get an error something like "invalid path...blah blah". When I plug this into another one of my computers it works just fine. When I try to "browse" the files on the drive nothing is showing up on computer #1 but the other all the files show fine.

I am plugging it into a port on the back of the computer (via extension cable). Now before we jump to conclusions, using this extension cable on other devices it works just fine (i.e. my Garmin GPS, Motorola Cell phone).

Any suggestions?

Answer:Flash drive not working

even though the extension cable works on other pc's try it without it anyways and also try different usb port if available.

You can boot a linux live cd http://www.livecdlist.com/ try Knoppix
and then plug it in and see if linux sees it.
If so, get your files off, and put them either on a CD or another USB stick.

Answer:USB Flash Drive not working, HELP!

Go to http://www.acronis.com and download and install Acronis True Image (it has a free 15 day trial) and take an image of your flash drive immediately. This way, your work is backed up somewhere else then you can try troubleshooting your flash drive.

If it makes you feel any better, you're not the only one I've encountered in this situation.

When I worked at a Dell call centre, 90% of customers in dire straits handn't backed up their systems. Of those who did, 90% had had a catastrophic experience previously. BAsically, it isn't until you experience what it's like to lose or potentially lose everything THEN people get the motivation to routinely back up their important files! One of my first customers was a grad student like yourself. She was in tears because her comp got swamped with spyware and we were forced to reformat and reinstall. She lost all her grad work.

Use Acronis True Image and back up your work regularly. It's easily worth the $40!!

I have an idea of how to rescue your flash drive. I did this once for someone who had a problem reading her diskette. Do this once you have imaged your flash drive.

My Computer -> Flash Drive -> Properties -> Tools -> Error-checking -> Select both options -> Start

Hi ja5219! For one reason or another (first time used on the system, etc, etc.), the computers you are inserting the player into are searching for correct drivers. Either click "Yes, this time" or "Yes, every time", and let the system look for the drivers. See if that works.

Let us know how this works out, and good luck!

I have this drive for about a year and now it has stopped working. It won't show up on computer that I plug it into. How can I fix it?

Answer:PNY 4G flash drive not working

Does it show up in Disk Management: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/f/open-disk-management.htm

You can also try the HP USB Format tool: http://www.bay-wolf.com/usbmemstick.htm

Have you tried it on several USB ports and better yet a completely different computer?

If neither works then the drive has failed and needs to be tossed unless it has warranty, however the cost of a new drive makes going through warranty pointless.

I am having an issue a 16Gb Cruzer flash drive, in that I cannot see in My Computer to access (or scan for viruses etc.), although it makes sounds on insertion, and repeats another immediately as it self ejects.
I have tried on 2 XP PCs.
Note: that I had previously found and eliminated a trojan from this, but this now seems to be a different problem.

Please help..

Try see in Computer Management, if it by chance has a double drive letter, try changing that.

Okay, so I have a Lexar 512MB flash drive that has worked great since I got it. Now when I plug it in, I get the USB confirmation sound, and it is listed as a device in the device manager and the Remove USB Hardware shows it, but no drive is shown. It doesn't display in the available drives in My Computer or when I use the Windows Explorer. Could someone please help me with this?

Answer:USB flash drive not working.

I'm not sure what the problem is, but you aren't alone. A friend of mine had his computer stop recognizing his drive just sitting there. He tried it in another laptop, and it worked fine, and mine worked fine in his. It seems to be a flaw in the Lexar Jump Drives. Have you got the latest drivers?

I have a 250GB Hard drive that isn't an external one. It was actually originally in the ps3 but i took it out to fix problems in getting the ps3 to work right (recently it stopped working.) I plugged it into my computer and I can't get it to work. I can't format it because it keeps giving me the cyclic redundancy check error and it's being registered as un formatted space when it should be FAT 32. I really need it to work again. Any help will be great! thank you. I have no idea what to do.

Hi, earlier it was working fine, & now when i plug it in nothing is found, not even in "add hardware". The phone (its in USB mode so it acts as a normal flash drive) detects the pc no problem.

I have tried everything but it can't detect anything. i have tried shorting 1 of the USB ports on the motherboard 2 see if it will "reset" somehow but didn't do anything.

Tried installing the hardware anyway, even tho it wasn't detected. nothing.

Tried restarting, kicking the pc, slamming the phone, re-installing mobo drivers, everything under the sun but its just not finding anything

is there a fix for this, i am using Vista 64bit

Hi everyone, i hope someone can help me with this.

My last laptop was very unreliable and I had many problems with it; so I bought I 20gb usb flash drive to back-up my essential files, music etc.
So when my laptop completely packed up on me I thought I'd be safe. Unfortunately the drive I bought doesn't seem work on my new laptop for reasons best known only to itself.

(I know its compatible with vista because I had vista on my old laptop.)

My new laptop is an acer aspire 5738Z; I'm not very good with all the really 'technical stuff' as you can probably tell so I have no idea what information you'd need for this this problem.

When I first plugged the flash drive into the laptop it made the usual noise it always makes and it installed something automatically but then didn't recognise it beyond that.
Since then whenever I plug it in nothing happens at all. My laptop doesn't seem to register that theres anything there.

I found some general advice on another site and so went to device manager and uninstalled all the usb things it told me to. When I turned the computer back on everything re-installed but the flash drive still won't work.

I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with the usb ports because I managed to put some songs onto my ipod when i plugged it in a couple of nights ago.

I have absolutely no idea what to do about this; I'm hoping someone else out there can make more sense of it than i can!
Thanks in advance

Hi,I have Twinmos, Mobile Disk Z4 (K24), USB 2.0 flash drive. It is working properly in windows XP. But I want to use it in Windows98. I also download windows98 drivers from Twinmos website but they are not working. I have a Pentium II laptop that do  have only USB 1.0 support. But my Flash Drive is working just fine with Windows XP, except when I insert it in USB port, it gives me a message that "The device can work faster if used on USB 2.0...".I just want to use it with windows 98. Any suggestion and help will be greatly appretiated.ThanksWahab

Win98 original or Win98SE? Windows 98 has some difficulties with USB devicesUSB support in Win98 original was pretty flakey and most USB devices and device drivers work with 98SE only.  If you could get your hands on USB mass media driver that might work. I have 98se at work myself and cannot get any flash drive to work,  tried 3 different kinds*....?

I have a flash drive in my TV in the USB port. I have some workouts on there that I have used since January. There are probably close to 40 workouts on there and I have done every one of them several times each. So tonight I go to play one and it plays ... for about 2 minutes and then it stops and says format not playable. The format is .mp4 but again, I have continuously used this flash drive. I then take the drive and format it on my computer. I transfer the videos back on to the drive and it does the same thing. Plays for a few minutes and then tells me the file format is not playable. Ideas?

Hey guys. I have a problem. Yesterday, I was using SumatraPDF on my Sandisk 1GB Cruzer Micro flash drive to view a document on another flash drive. The document didn't open, so I closed SumatraPDF. Next thing you know, Windows XP reports a "Delayed Write Error" faliure noticed. I ignored it, thinking that maybe the computer was just being screwy. A couple of hours later, I wanted to use my Sandisk Flash drive. I tried to open some files on it, and they wouldn't open. Puzzled, I went to Windows Explorer to try to open the root of the flash drive, and it says "(drive letter of flash drive) is not accesible. Incorrect function". Long story short, after many hours of trying to remedy the problem, I found out after plugging it into a computer that runs Windows ME that the flash drive is still readable...just not writeable. I can't format it to try to remedy the problem, and I fear that I may have to get a new one (I've had it for over a year now, plus I used Portable Firefox/VLC Media player on it...). Is there a Sandisk utility that can force a format on this media or possible make it writeable? If not, is there a way to make it readable on Windows XP? Also, do you know of a place where it's possible to get a good 1GB flash drive at 30$ or less if I have to replace it?

Answer:Flash Drive Stopped Working

You could save everything thats on it, open "My Computer", right click on the Drive and choose "Format".

MAKE SURE YOU FORMAT IT FAT, not FAT16 or anything.

That ought to sort it out.

I just purchased a new Dell Studio XPS 16 laptop, and while it's mostly gone swimmingly, I've had one problem with it: the machine fails to fully recognize my flash drive.

What is unusual is that it will immediatley recognize my brother's flash drive, which is the exact same manufacturer, model, and capacity.

When I go to Computer Management, the drive shows up as active, and the driver (the drive-specific one, not the UMS driver) can populate and get the USB drive's info... but it never shows up in Explorer, and I can't get any data off it.

Any ideas? If it makes any difference, the machine originally crashed as it was installing drivers for this drive.

Answer:Specific flash drive not working?

Has the drive been given a drive letter? You may need to assign it one via Disk Management. To do so, open Disk Management:
Start > Control Panel > System & Security > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management
Now click on the drive in question. Right click and click Change drive letter and paths.

If not, you can attempt to use it via another computer. If it's broken there as well, it may be shot.

I hav 2 computers.. 1 running winXP pr SP2 the other is WinXP Home SP2
I hav 3 flash drives which hav all mysteriously dies in the last week.. i dont know if this is bad luck or something wrong.

Next my other flash drive died after putting it into 1 computer then the next.. its name has changed 2 "poo disk" i find this peculiar and it needs formatting which it wont let me do. On the other computer its called "Removable disk" and says it needs formatting but also does not work.
Now my last and most important flash drive has also died on me.. i was copying something onto it.. and it was working fine. I removed it correctly.. then put it into the other computer.. now it doesnt show up.. the computer doesnt even know its plugged in.. and the light on it doesnt work.

This may be a long shot.. but im thinking mayb a virus? any help 2 fix this?

I have had an EZ Flash drive (memory stick) for just over a year which has suddenly stopped working. Normally, my computer sees it as soon as I plug it into the USB, but now it doesn't.
For a while I did get the computer to acknowledge that it was there as a removable drive, but it couldn't detect anything on it.
I've tried re-installing it using the installation disk, but to no avail.
Could it have become totally de-activated or wiped?
Even if all the files on it have been wioed, I can't see why it can't be detected.
I've checked the USB ports in Control Panel and they're all OK.

Ok, so I've been preparing to transfer over my files to a new laptop, by first saving the important stuff to a flash drive. Took about an hour or so to copy everything over.

I pop the flash drive into the gf's computer to test it, and nothing is loading up correctly. I go to open up a MSword document, and it wont load up the text, I try to open a picture and it says "no preview available". Also, when going to open a folder I had moved to the flash drive, its apparently empty now. What the hell is up with this thing? It's just a simple 32gb flash drive, nothing special or complicated. Yet it's not working.

Hi I have nera 2 year old S3, running Win7. It has a 256Gb SSD. I think the model is a 591... the barcode label is illegible now. It's been crashing a lot recently and more glitches were appearing, such as the wi-fi adaptor not working, then working again and then not working. Blue screens, system freezes. So I deceided it needed a fresh install. I had already created a flash drive boot, so put that in, changed the boot order and restarted the machine. I get to the erecovery screens, choose language and what restore option I wanted... so I chose the preserve data option. Press go and the progress bars just sit there... nothing happening. I leave it for 10 mintes or so, still nothing happening. Figure it must have crashed. Hit restart and boot into recovery mode again. So I choose the erase everything option and press go... and nothing at all happens now. I can't boot back to the old system as I get a 'bootmgr missing' message. Could the SSD be goosed?TIAChris
