CD drive doesn't know theres a CD in it (Code 19)

Question: CD drive doesn't know theres a CD in it (Code 19)

When I put a CD into my computer it doesn't do anything. I've tried every CD I have and it doesn't change anything. I found what I would think has to be the problem. In My Computer I went to Properties and Hardware and it says theres a problem with the DVD/CD-ROM drive. It is telling me the problem is this:Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)I've tried everything the Troubleshooter says to do and its not a new piece of hardware. The only thing I haven't done is go into the registry and try to fix whatever is wrong. Thats because I don't know what to fix or where to look for it or anything that would do me any good.If anyone can offer any advice or tell me other information that you would need to help it would be appreciated.

Preferred Solution: CD drive doesn't know theres a CD in it (Code 19)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: CD drive doesn't know theres a CD in it (Code 19)

Try deleting the item in Device Manager and then restart the machine. What happens now? What happened prior to this that may explain what has happened?

Toshiba Satellite L750-134. Windows 7 (64 bit).
TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633F stoped working couple days ago without any reasons.

I still can load a disk but don't see it in Windows.
In the device manager there is a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark.

There is a note in properties: Windows wasn't succeeded to start this device as information on its configuration in the register is incomplete or damaged (Code 19).

How to solve this problem?

Answer:Satellite L750-134: CD/DVD drive TS-L633F doesn't work - Code 19

Delete the CD/DVD drive from device manager (the device marked with yellow exclamation mark)
Then start the registry (regedit in search)
Here you have to delete the upper and lower filters from the follwing registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control\Class \ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Can anyone assist? I'm not a programmer so please forgive me in advance.

Iíve tested the code below but itís not redirecting (no errors on the page) As an FYI, I tested only using two incoming links, I added the third elseif here for better clarification.

Need to capture campaign ID from print ads and/or direct links. An easy fix would be a tracking pixel on the page but our current analytics program does not provide it (canít purchase another program, our company is too invested in the current).

To just add another elseif expression for new print ads and/or redirects, i.e. until our analytics company develops a solution (simple as opposed to creating a sub domain w/ a redirect for each new incoming link)
Important Notes:

The code should be case sensitive because the incoming link may sometimes come from same domain but with a different campaign ID (see example below)

I did manage to capture the campaign ID using to two domain autoforwards but that will only work for one incoming link.

Could anyone tell me if there is an updated driver for the TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L632H ATA Device? The device is not available as a selectable drive and in device manager it reports the following error:

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

I have removed the device and the driver, however on scanning for hardware; vista re-installs the default driver and the same error returns.

Because of this error, I am unable to update the firmware for the drive and the firmware update is unable to see the drive.

Any ideas??

Thanks in advance.

Answer:CD/DVD drive issue on Satellite L notebook - error code Code 39

Hi buddy

What to say?this issue is known and caused by wrong Windows registry entries.
Microsoft has released and published some knowledge articles.

Check this:

First of all I recommend removing the CD/DVD drive from the device list in device manager. Then remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Finally reboot the notebook.

That?s all.

PS: you would find this solution also without my help?. You should use the forum search function! It?s helpful!

Went back to a system restore point that was before the last time I used the CD-rom player and it worked and that (didn't work as well)

Okay, so recently I built a new system

Motherboard: Asus m5a97 le r 2.0
processor: AMD phenom II x4 965 be
RAM: Patriot Viper 3 1600 mhz 2x8gb [...] 6820220690

Ever since day 1, I've been getting random BSODs, whether downloading something, or playing a game, or surfing the web
All these BSODs are code 1a (memory management)

Now I noticed, not only is my RAM not on the QVL, but all the RAM that is on the QVL for my motherboard at 1600mhz and 16gb is 4x4, and there is no single 8gb stick of ram on the QVL in that section.

So... what do you guys think the problem is? Drivers (I really don't think so..), RAM, or MOBO

I am running Win XP Home SP 2.

I recently decided I needed to educate myself on creating web pages/sites.

I purchased a copy of FrontPage, and a copy of a book by Elizabeth Castro entitled "HTML for the World Wide Web with XHTML and CSS," published in 2003.

I tried to create a very simple web page using the book, and using (at first) Word Pad, then Notepad. When I try to open it using IE, nothing is displayed.
However, when I enter the same info into FrontPage, IE has no problem displaying the page.

I very carefully compared the two (Notepad (or Word Pad) vs. FrontPage) to correct any syntax errors. Still no luck.

Now the curious part. I decided I was doing something fundamentally wrong and logged on to the author's website. When I attempted to view the examples for the the appropriate chapter (chapter 3), I discovered that I could not view the first three (or four) (using IE), but I could view subsequent examples. The website is

So . . . is this a problem with the browser, or a problem with the code (I will post the code for any interested party). It seems to me that it is more likely to be a browser problem - and perhaps this message should be posted on a different forum.

Can anyone help?

Answer:Unlock code doesn't work Lumia 900

You probably need to contact ATT and tell them the code they provided does not work.
Also, may I suggest editing your title to provide a little more detail? i.e., "Unlock code issue" or "Unlock code doesn't work." Those of us who browse the forums thrive on more information.

This laptop was having issues with ATI display drivers (even the ones included on the recovery disk). It was creating a blue screen on a dll file.

after reading around i found that it was recommended to upgrade the bios, after going to the correct section of the website, i downloaded the windows bios flash tool for the laptop.

I ran it, and it opened, came back to the laptop and the screen was blank, an the blue ring around the power button was lit, but no display.

I left it for a while to see if it would reboot itself or something but nothing happened, it wouldnt power off from the button so i disconnected the power, and removed the battery.

Upon turning the laptop on again, it only stays on for about 3 seconds then turns off again.
I get this beep code: Long Beep, Short Pause, Long Beep, Short Pause, Short Beep, Then it powers off.
The caps lock and the numlock keys are lit up.
The DVD drive light flashes.

But other than that, no display etc.
Ive tried leaving the battery out for a while.

Anyone have any ideas why toshiba's own bios flash would cause this? Also anything i can do about it? anyway to recover bios etc via a recovery mode?

thanks in advance.

Answer:Equium A60 doesn't boot - get a beep code

Well, unfortunately for me it seems like a hardware fault.
Maybe the motherboard is broken.
Such issues can occur if you use a wrong BIOS or the wrong BIOS update procedure.

Please check this FAQ document How to upgrade the BIOS: IOS&FID=TRO0000000b07

Unfortunately if there is something wrong with the hardware you should ask the Toshiba service for the help.

Hi, the errorcode speaks for itself, the system can't find the hard drive, i suggest you try plugging it into an desktop system as salve to try and save data, but if it is not found there either you will have to buy a new hard drive/get one on the warranty.

I have an Edge 14. Intel i3 M370 model.  I ordered a OBHC and installed a 160 Gb SATA drive, loaded with WIN 7.  In the main drive bay I have an Ubuntu OS setup.Trying to set up a dual boot configuration.  But, when I boot the drive and enter the BIOS set up, the drive in the caddy doesn't show.  If I let it boot from the main drive, Ubuntu starts up. If I put the Ubuntu drive in the caddy and nothing in the main bay, "NO OPERATING SYSTEM." When I look at the computer in Ubuntu, the OS7 drive is there.  All three partitions (Lenovo, OS and startup).  I can mount them, etc.  When I use Disk Utility in Ubuntu, the drive shows up listed under the SATA controller and is located at position 2 of the SATA bus.   I updated the BIOS and it is now 1.26. Still no sign of the HDD in the caddy.  Very odd.  When I power up the computer, the LED in the caddy does light up. When I run sudo update-grub in Ubuntu, the WIN 7 loader shows up in the list.  So a bootable OS is seen.  But if I select WIN 7 loader in the GRUB list at boot, I get a "no such drive" message, and am lead back the the GRUB list. In the BIOS, the config menu, the startup list only includes HDD0.   Is there some secret BIOS trick I need to play?  Correct me if I'm wrong, but there aren't any jumper settings, etc. on a SATA drive, right?  Nothing there to change. Any suggestions would be very much appreci... 2 weeks ago my dad reported me a Windows Update problem showing Code 8007370B. He is using Windows 7 Home Professional 32 bit system with SP1. He used the CheckSUR-Software producing the 2 file "checkSUR.log" & "CheckSUR.persist.log" with are attached.
Now I am visiting my parents and of course want to fix this problem.
I started "Sfc /scannow" which produced CBS.log, which I attached in zipped form.
From the checkSUR.log I see that "" is missing. Somewhere I read I have to find that file and put it into "%windir%\Temp\CheckSUR\servicing\packages", right? But I didn't succeed finding the missing file.

Can anyone help?

Answer:SD card doesn't work - error code 39 on my Satellite A series

I?m wondering why you use always upper-case characters?!
Is it sooo difficult to use simple characters, commas, points, etc? ???

Back to your issue;
What notebook model you have and what Win OS have been installed?

My first thought was that this issue happened because some drivers are not installed or stopped working!
Therefore I recommend reinstalling the Chipset driver (utility) and the card reader driver (SD card driver???)

Check the Toshiba European driver page and there you could find the necessary drivers!

Hey Gang,

My problem is that Media Player doesn't play MP3's. This happens in Media Player Classic, and Media Player 10.

Error Code is C0011CD

It plays other files but not MP3's. What's Wrong?

Is there another player I can use? How Can I fix this?

Answer:Error code: C0011CD Media Player doesn't play MP3's

That's a pretty generic code which doesn't really help. Mp3 playback is handed by the Frauhofer codec which is built in to Windows.

I see 2 alternatives.

Set a Restore point and install this:

Or get Winamp.

I'm running thewindows backup program on my X21 laptop, backing up to a USB hard drive.  I've formatted and run the error checking program on the hard drive and it check out ok.  When I run a backup, it runs for a LONG time, creates a 68GB file on the hard drive (which seems about the right size) but ends with and error that says "The last backup did not complete successfully".  Details say:  error code:  0x80070005. I've tried this multiple times with always the same result.  And advice on what the problem is would be appreciated.

Answer:Backup and restore doesn't complete. Error code 0x80070005

it could be a couple of things. first, have you run a system cleaner that might have deleted your restore points? 2nd, do you have virus protection running when you do your backup?  you should turn it off. 3rd, make sure your permissions are set so you have access to the drive that you're backing up. what os are you using?if i'm not mistaken, doesn't the x21 have 1.1 usb ports?  that's why it's taking so long. that error is a permissions error.

I have a heavily macro driven workbook written in Excel 2003. The workbook has several worksheet command buttons (not forms) to call other macros. Depending upon various conditions, the caption, font size and font color of the buttons are changed by macros. When run on Excel 2007, the caption length is limited and I can't change the font color. I do not have 2007 myself, so I made a small workbook out of a segment of my main program and tried to run it on a friends machine at his work with 2007. The attached program works fine on 2003, but wil not run on his 2007.
Can someone please take a look at this and see if there is a workaround?

The Satellite Pro 6100 stopped working after sitting for two weeks off charge. A new battery did nothing.

The LED that normally glows green when charging now glows amber, but also does so with 4 consecutive sets of one long and one short blink, followed by a pause, followed by another set of blinks, continuously.

Where do I find out what this diagnostic code (I assume) means?

Answer:Satellite Pro 6100 - Doesn't boot and shows a diagnostic code

I think such diagnostic codes you can find in the technical manual but this is only available for authorized service providers.

But can you start the notebook without battery and AC/DC adaptor only?
Maybe you should try to remove the AC/DC adaptor and battery. Then wait one hour and connect both devices again. Now try to start the notebook.

If it doesn?t work I suggest that you should ask a notebook technician for help. It seems to be a hardware malfunction?

Most of the time, the screen stays black and the notebook emits four sounds, four beeps.
I can try and try again nothing happens, until it starts????

It is very annoying, does anybody have experienced that same pb ?
Does anyone know how to solve that problem ?

thanks for your help

Answer:Satellite 3000-514 often doesn't start - beep code appears

It sounds like the notebook cannot pass the POST (power on self test) successfully. The notebook beeps because there is a hardware error and some device did not pass the test.
You can try disconnecting all external devices and then try to start the notebook.
But I don?t see many chances that this will help to solve the problem?

Mostly in such cases the external help is needed. The technician with much more experience as a common user like me and you should check the notebook. I hope there is no motherboard malfunction because this could be a little bit expensive :(

Hi there!

CODE 10 "not to be started..."

I tried several drivers, but no one works fine. I have read about this problem, but I cannot degrade to SP2 or something. I guess, I need help!

I did not found such a topic here, dunno why?

It would be great, if somebody knows a healing of my card reader/driver.

Answer:Satellite P - Card reader doesn't work (error code 10)

At first you should tell us which notebook you have.
Have you installed the notebook with the recovery disk or Microsoft disk?

A downgrade to SP2 is only possible if on the CD is only SP2 or lower. If the CD is delivered with SP3 a downgrade to SP2 is not possible.

Have you tried the driver from the Toshiba website? => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

I'm in a bit of a problem here. I came back from a little trip and when I started my gaming computer my network adapter didn't work anymore. After some work on my computer I discovered that my driver didn't work anymore, code 37 (the driver doesn't get initialized). Now I've been trying to get different new drivers but none of them work. All this was checked from the device manager.

The driver that stopped working was "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller". I've also tried the 7.61.612.2012 version but that didn't work either.

If it is relevant my mobo is:

Hi all. I would like to ask for some help on finding a WYSIWYG website editing application that also allows full access to edit the code.
Ever since 2011 I've been using Weebly to create websites and I love how that Weebly allows me to create beautiful looking websites, with the ability to edit the HTML, CSS throughout.
I'm looking for an easy to use WYSIWYG application that doesn't require coding skill, but doesn't stop stop you from being able to edit the full HTML/CSS freely as I want to escape the limitations Weebly has (brief explanation at the end)
I first came across 90 Second Website Builder, and although it allows editing of the HTML code, it doesn't allow you to freely, like as in anywhere in the page. I then came across their mac varient Drag and Drop Site Builder, but again same thing. I then came across Freeway Pro, absolutely brilliant application, exactly what I want except that it still doesn't allow you to edit the HTML/CSS freely. I've tried multiple Mac applications but none seem to have the simplicity as Freeway Pro and I just kept going back to Freeway. I just wish Freeway allowed me to fully edit the HTML. I just can't stand the thought of not having any access to the full html within the application whatsoever.
I'm not a coder, have no clue how to code, otherwise I certainly wouldn't be bothering with applications like this. But it's still easier at times to achieve something by editing a single line of code, such as making a background image be full s... Read more

Did you try to plug them in reverse order (the second drive first and when that's recognized, plug in the first one)
My drives are WD My Book 1TB and 2TB. at first they refused to play together nicely.
I had to run the WD-DriveManager (which came with the 1TB drive) once to " beat" them into submission

My computer failed to boot a few weeks ago. I took out the C drive and put it in an external drive case on my other computer in order to retrieve outlook emails, bookmarks, etc. The drive is 250 gigs. It only shows an 'N' drive, 130 gigs worth of data, which must have been a partition. The C drive isn't there. Is it corrupted? Will be I be able to retrieve anything from the C drive?  If the drive is corrupted, why does one partition show up and not the other?

Answer:Hard drive doesn't show C drive, but shows the other partition

I had a similar situation. I was able to get data off the drive using a Ubuntu live cd. Burn the iso to cd, put the drive back in the computer and boot to the cd. If you can see the drive in Places then you should be able to get your data off. Please note the "if" and "should".Good luck.

My internal CD-DVD drive worked perfectly on Windows 7 until I upgraded to
Windows 10. if I insert a CD nothing happens. The drive isn't shown anywhere when viewing drives of the computer. Also, my backup drive E: isn't recognized either.
My Seagate manager tells me that no drive is connected.

Open command prompt and type "diskmgmt.msc" and press enter. Under disk management, do you see your CD drive and your E: listed without a drive letter?

According to the instuctions on the Microsoft website for copying files to CD, when a CD is inserted into the E drive, a CD dialogue box is supposed to come up on screen so I can highlight "Open Writable Cd Folder" and then click OK. This doesn't happen. I get no CD dialogue box.

I do have a CD writer; it came with the PC when I bought it.

I bought a new DVD-drive today and tried to install it, but it only sees my old CD-RW drive. They work if one is unplugged and the other is connected. If both are connected at the same time, then it only reads the CD-RW. When the other is disconnected, it gives the other the drive letter 'D'. Why won't it recognize both or how can I change the letter on my old one? The Device manager won't let me type another name in for the old CD-RW.

How can I get it to recognize both?
The brand of the DVD-drive is Pacific Digital and the CD-RW is Samsung.
I am using Win. XP on an eMachines T1440; Intel Celeron at 1.4 gHz.

I'm having the same issues as this lady. I have two IDE hard drives from older computers that I want to try to recover data from. I got a new enclosure all set up, plugged the first drive in (Drive 5), and it doesn't register under My Computer. I right click My Computer, go to Manage, avoid initializing/formatting the drive, and find that it's offline and unallocated. This is what it looks like.

I right click the drive listing (left side) and click Offline, hoping that'll bring it online. "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error." Right click the right side, and I see "new simple volume, new spanned volume, new striped volume, properties, help." The latter two are clickable, the rest gray. I do everything the 'net tells me to do: change the jumper to Master, clean it with compressed air, restart the computer, restart the enclosure, reinstall the enclosure driver. Nothing changes.

I try plugging the enclosure into mom's laptop, and "offline" is now grayed out when I right click the left side of the drive listing. On the right side, "new simple volume" is clickable now, but my friend says that will also initialize the drive and erase everything, so I didn't try it. Apart from these differences, everything was exactly the same.

So I use the steps in the thread I linked in the beginning, hoping that the data recovery tool might be able to access the drive. When it scans all devices, however, the enclos... Read more

Answer:new hard drive enclosure, drive doesn't register

What kind of enclosure did you buy? The drives may be genuinely unusable, or it might be a problem with the enclosure.

When I want to salvage data from old drives I use this old tried-and-true Kingwin SATA/IDE->USB 2.0 adapter. Very inexpensive (so you can try it out yourself for minimal cost investment), but very reliable in my own experience. If you have a very large drive (e.g. SATA) that you want to access, it might be worth considering their USB 3.0 version for just a few dollars more because of the much faster USB 3.0 transfer speed.

I wouldn't give up yet on your IDE drives yet until I'd given this other adapter approach a shot. Never failed for me.

My laptop doesn't boot because OS is on E: drive instead of C: drive

When I try to boot it up (it somehow boots up as windows 8.1 instead of my OS windows 10), it gives a BSoD and shows the error code 0xc000021a. I created a bootable USB drive with windows 10 pro on it, but it shows my OS as windows 8.1 instead of 10, and it doesn't allow me to restore or do a startup repair, because they both fail.

Answer:Laptop doesn't boot because OS is on D: drive instead of C: drive

Hi, are you sure your OS is on D:? E: is labelled OS.

And which partition is active? Can you check with a partition manager boot disk?

Run EasyBCD, View settings, and post a screenshot. That will show the boot loader entries.

Has this OS always been on D:? How did it get there? I'd be reluctant to suggest moving it to another partition as I'm pretty sure there will be drive letters embedded in it.

Hi, my problem is that my DVD drive that I use for most of my CD Roms is now no longer recognising when there is a disk in it, and no matter how I try to get it to open and explore the disks it just says there is no disk in the drive. The only time when I can get it to recognise a disk is when I first turn it on, then it opens the disk and the title appears on My Computer, after that the name remains for all disks, though some if you go to explore it will display the contents of the disk in the drive. I have tried right clicking and selecting eject but it doesn't work. So has anyone else ever had this problem and if so how did you solve it?, thanks

Answer:CD Rom drive doesn't recognise disk in drive

The drive could have failed. If you have a disk stuck in the drive then straighten out a paper clip and push it gently but firmly in the little hole on the front of the drive unit. This hole is the emergency eject.

Before you say: "Oh, just do this", trust me, I've tried it. I need actual help. I've been trying now for nearly two months (at least once every week after researching different methods) to get my newly built gaming computer running. The error/ problem I'm experiencing is that the computer is not posting, nor booting. Meanwhile, the red "CPU_led" icon on the board glows red and doesn't turn off, indicating a problem. The board's error code reader also displays "00", which comes on when the unit is plugged in but not turned on, which means it isn't booting or posting.First, I've tried using BIOS Flashback and eZ Update 2 from ASUS to update the BIOS on my motherboard, downloading and redownloading the BIOS version multiple times from ASUS' website after it did not work, time after time. I've also tried booting with one stick of RAM, booting with only one of each 5 storage devices that I have hooked up to the system, getting a new CPU, and much more! The parts are all verified to have worked, as they all light up or spin and everything, and I had two different CPUs, RAM sticks, and storage devices that I tested. Here are the specifications:CPU: Intel i7 4790k Motherboard: ASUS Maximus VII FormulaGPU: (nVidia) PNY GTX 780 Ti XLR8RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB 2x8GBCPU Cooler: Corsair H100i GTXHDD: Western Digital Black 1TBSSDs: (4x) Corsair Neutron XT 240GBPSU: Corsair AX1200iCase (doesn't really matter)... Maybe its a VRM, Maybe its a Cap, Maybe I can desolder and solder a new BIOS ROM chip to bricked board etc. I have found that its less frustrating just spending money on a new motherboard if that's what it points to.I'd say that your looking at swapping out motherboard with a new one, and with known good components you'd be back up and running.QuoteI'm about ready to disassemble the whole thing and give up on gaming with a computer as a whole, so I'd love any help I can get. True gamers are determined to get back up and running. That's why your here. I've got a weird problem here to report. I'm on a Lenovo N200 laptop running Windows 7 x64. Around half the time, the computer will boot up with the trackpad not responding. During times when this happens, I can look into the device manager and see a "code 10" ("device cannot start") for the trackpad. Restarting the computer fixes the problem.

I've had the problem once or twice over the last few years, but just a few weeks ago, it started happening very regularly (+/- 50% of all startup attempts). I can't recall making any notable changes to the system lately that could cause something like this. When the problem first started, it also affected the display adapter (Windows would start with an extremely low resolution and the graphic card would show a similar fault in the device manager, in addition to the trackpad problem described here), but this has since stopped.

I have tried updating the driver for the trackpad to a newer version, but the problem persists.

Hardware faults were considered, but I was able to successfully boot the computer from a WinPE CD five times in a row with no issues, so it would seem like this is less likely to be a hardware bug.

Any ideas as to where to go from here? I don't want to have to reinstall an otherwise clean and functional operating system for something this trivial.

Hi, try using this to check the temps HWMONITOR | Softwares | CPUID

Hi. I run XP and I'm having really frustrating problems with code 12. I've only just found out that it was my system and not the actual drive, I even bought a brand new DVD drive before I checked this out just to make sure.

I go into device manager and next to primary and secondary IDE drives and it shows an exclamation mark. I double click and it says...

"This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system."

How do I fix this? Is it just a case of disabling something? I'm really confused as to what caused this because I've not made any changes recently.

My LH-DT-ST CD-RW GCE 8481B drive has stopped working. Device Manger has a yellow ! against it. Device Status has "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing." I've tried to unistall and re-install the device as per troubleshooting instructions but wind up back at the same place. I tried doing a search for driver updates through Device Manager Update button but Windows says mine is the best match and won't load another. Can't use the CD drive to load the driver from CD for obvious reasons. The original driver seems to be from Microsoft but I'm not having much luck finding it on their site. Sooo

Is this really a software driver problem or could it be hardware?
Where can I find the driver on-line (safely)?

Give this a go HERE or HERE (general one) as it will remove the upper and lower filters that can cause DVD/CD drivers to not work ok, reboot after its done.

Also in Device Manager do you have any yellow ! marks by any devices, if so what?

Is this a OEM PC, like one from DELL, HP etc if so what make and model?

Hi one and all.

Few months ago, I realised my DVD/CD drives weren't working. Got some advice and went into device manager to find they had yellow exclamation marks next to them. When I clicked on the drive it then gave me this error

"Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)"

Then today I decided to have a go at tackling it, after I replaced the drives over the weekend with some that I knew worked and were off my old computer which was still up and running until a few weeks back. Only one of those had installed and still had the yellow exclamation mark next to it in device manager with the same error message.

I looked around on Google and found this page -

I followed the steps advised on there and deleted the upperfilters reg key after I went through the pages and found many people saying that it had worked for them. The lowerfilters one couldn't be found. I then restarted my computer and found that the CD drive had disappeared from my device manager completely and even after trying 'Add new Hardware' and 'Scan for Hardware changes' nothing happened. Now neither drives are showing up.

try setting the BIOS so it will boot from the drive if it isn't already, then try letting it boot from a bootable CD. If the drive doesn't boot to that CD then try reseating the drive.

Hi there,
I bought a Weston digital 3TB hard drive in March 2012 which was under warranty until 19 Aug 2014. Originally I fitted it in a Drobo backup system which formatted the disk with its own operating system. But eventually the Drobo backup system crashed. (I think, because it would not work with the 3TB drive but all the light indicators showed it was working correctly. So 3 weeks ago I removed the 3TB drive from the Drobo unit and tried to reformat it on my windows 7, 64 bit tower as a secondary drive but it would only show 746.52GB the other 1.99TB had disappeared and as I tried to format the hard drive the windows activation reported that I had 6 days to re-activate windows. The problem is, windows would not activate with the 3TB disk connected, it reports error code 0x80070005 each time I tried to activate windows. Plus I do not think windows would require re-activation for a secondary hard drive anyway. Checking on the web some forum sites report that even Microsoft do not know how to fix this error code, though I am not sure if this is true.
I contacted Weston Digital who asked me to use their Driver tester, which showed a "write Zeros error" fault and they sent a replacement drive. I installed it in my pc and formatted it into a 2TB and a virtual 1TB as per instructions which solved the "missing" 2TBs. But when the new disk was up and running it came up with the same windows activation error code.

Hey all,

It's been a while, but I built my first PC a couple of months ago . So far everything works great....I had some minor problems but those were fixed.

But now, I have another small problem. My DVD drive doesn't show up in My Computer. I checked Device Manager, and I have an error for my driver. Here is the error:

"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

I have tried using Driver Fusion to wipe out all drivers and reinstall with no change.

The drive shows up in BIOS so it's not a connection problem. Is there a solution for this? I'd prefer not to reinstall the OS....

Thanks for the help !

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

It's been not even a month since I used my disk drives, and they worked fine then. Then a few days ago, to clean up some space on my computer, I cleaned out my temp folder and used CCleaner to clean out the rest.

I've tried uninstalling the drivers so they could be reinstalled on startup, I've tried checking for updates, for which there are none. I can't rollback any of the drivers either.

I need these drives work for my business. And the fact that the DVD drive that I can plug in isn't even working is cause for serious alarm.

I have an odd problem, everything seems fine on my win 7 setup, and was working great for a while, but I recently noticed that both my CD-RW and DVD drive are no longer recognized by 7.
When I checked the Properties of the devices, it said that the Driver (c:\Windows\system32\Drivers\cdrom.sys) was corrupt, but no amount of uninstall/reinstall, chkdsk, sfc, or Restore has been able to fix the problem. I also tried the Startup Repair option off the DVD.

Is there some way I can get my drives working again without a complete reinstall? I have a TSST Corp CD/DVDW TS-L652D ATA.
Thanks for any help.

Answer:Code 39 error with DVD-RW drive

Hi Saedmscs,

It would seem that during your setup some files got corrupted. However, I do believe this issue can be solved.

Open up a command prompt and type in "sfc /scannow"
This will look for corrupt files and then attempt to fix them.

Upon completion of the scan, it might tell you that there were file corruptions that could not be fixed. No worries though, simply restart your computer and if everything went ok this should have worked.

If this did not work, I have other troubleshooting ideas that might help.

I attached a Garmin Nuvi 760 GPS to my Vista OS PC to register it. The PC assigned the "M" peripheral ID code to the Garmin GPS. This was the device ID that always appeared when I turned on my Seagate external disk drive. Now the Seagate appears as drive "H" when I turn it on and the Garmin GPS as Drive "M".

This is affecting my ability to retrieve all the documents I placed on the external drive since the path for all the documents is still identified as using the "M" drive. It seems the Vista OS has concluded the new Garmin device is now the ?M? drive.

I want the Seagate to go back to appearing as the "M" drive and the Garmin to be the "H" drive. How do I make this happen? I have tried alternating attaching, turning on and off and detaching the two peripherals but the Vista OS seems to dictate the Seagate is now drive "H" and the Garmin is now drive "M". Desktop or laptop? Brand, model, model # if applicable, please. Did you build the computer? If a desktop, are you a beginner, intermediate or advanced with computer hardware?

If the computer has > 1 optical drive, does it work?

How did the problem begin? I commend you for checking dev mgr. I do not think that users routinely check dev mgr unless a problem exists. I could be wrong, here. No offense intended.

When did the problem begin? Can you relate the onset to installation / removal of hardware / software, to include updates to Windows, your antivirus, other program?

Does the drive appear in "computer"?

What steps have you taken to try to resolve the issue? Which web sites have you visited? I would not want to suggest a site or step you have already tried.

Oh..My...God...after a tiring day at work, i looked forward to playing some games on my computer. When i boot up the computer..i got a error that made me want to cry...(mainly cause i don't understand it).

When i boot up this weird information comes up and then at the bottom, written in blue it says

Non-WD Drive Error/Status Code 0201

Answer:Non-WD Drive Error Code 0201

Well first I don't think this is a Microsoft/XP error code as there is almost NO hits on Google for it.

My guess is that this is some weird 3rd Party App's error, like a little-used game or something.

Normally I would expect this error to come from some Western Digital Utility software (do you have one installed & running) but there is so little documentation even this seems unlikely.

Your post is rather sparse in detail.

Besides the error message, what is it either doing or not doing ?

I'm wondering if anyone might help me repair a Code 19 error related to my DVD drive. I noticed a yellow exclamation mark over my primary ide channel a couple weeks after we got rid of ZeroAccess ( ZeroAccess / desktop.ini(Trojan.Gen 2) ) with combofix but I ignored it cuz my computer was working fine... but I now realize I can't access my DVD drive.

I reinstalled the primary ide channel drivers and the exclamation mark is gone and XP now sees my DVD drive but the yellow exclamation mark is now over it (instead of the whole ide channel). And the driver status says... "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

I assume this has to do with the work we did using combofix.

As per info I found while googling, I have removed upper and lower filters in the registry and removed Itunes and EZ CD creater to no avail. Code 19 is still preventing XP from seeing my DVD drive.

Can anyone help with this?

Answer:XP can't find DVD drive Code 19 after combofix

Greetings CorbinDallas,

Try this workaround...

(It's not as daunting as it looks. )

1. Click on Start.
2. In Start Search or Run type devmgmt.msc and then hit enter.
3. This would open the Device Manager Window.
4. Now locate something which reads as CD/DVD , there would be a + sign next to it,
5. Click on the +Sign next to it and down below locate the driver responsible for the functioning of the cd & DVD.
6. Now right click on the driver and then click on Uninstall
7. Now locate an option right at the top which reads as ACTIONS.
8. Click on Actions and then click on Scan for Hardware Changes.
9. Close the Device Manager Window.
10. Click on Start and in Start Search type Regedit and then click Enter.
11. This would open the Registry Editor Window.
12 .Locate an option which reads as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
13. Click on the +Sign next to it.
14. Now locate another option which reads as SYSTEM.
15. Click on the +Sign next to SYSTEM.
16 .Now Locate another option which reads as Current Control Set.
17. Click on the +Sign next to it.
18 .Now locate another option which reads as CONTROL.
19 .Click on the +Sign next to it.
20. Locate an option reading as CLASS.
21. Click on the +Sign next to it.
22. Now we would find a lot of keys..
23. Locate a key which reads as 4D36E965
24. Click on the Key and then look right at the right top corner of the screen and locate Upper Filters and Lower Filters.
25. Right cli... Read more

HP PC Diagnostics gives the error code RGFNSX-7JP8GG-MFGH61-60QQ03 for my hard drive. Unfortunately I can?t find the meaning nor the solution anywhere on your website. Can I still save my hard drive and repair it, or do I need a new drive ? Please give me your advice or help. Thank you in advance.

Answer:Hard drive error code

The error code= the hard drive has failed and will need to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will send a replacement. If not a retail laptop SATA hard drive can be used. Just be sure to get one of at least equal capacity as the original in order to use Recovery Discs. It can be larger, but not smaller capacity. For instance if you have a 500GB hdd you could use a 750GB hdd but not a 320GB hdd.

Hi there,
my dvd drive is no longer recognised. I get this message from device manager:

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

When I "check for solutions" nothing happens. Can anyone help me to get the drive working again?

Answer:Tecra M2 - DVD/CD drive error (Code 38)

I recommend removing the CD/DVD drive from the device manager.
Then access the registry and remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Then reboot the notebook and wait until windows oS has initialized the CD/DVD drive again.

Please post some results!

The driver update published 07/07/08 at 23:59 was installed on my system as directed by Toshiba Tempo but on restarting my machine I have error 38 (according to Vista) that prevents the new driver installing as the old driver is resident in memory..?? Effectively this means that I cannot access or see my DVD drive anymore other than in the Device Manager page of Control Panel. The rollback driver option is not available, possibly as it was a firmware update. The message in the Device Properties page is as follows:

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)

The updatre installed was frmwre-20080707134447. It includes an Adobe document that tells you what to do and how to ensure that your drive requires updating, all of which was easy to follow and tied in with my machine.

I have tried uninstalling the device and driver, but each time I reload it the same error occurs.

I am really unimpressed and fairly annoyed, as this is a Toshiba recommended firmware update done using their Tempo system, any thoughts or advice welcome.

Answer:No access to DVD Drive - error code 38

Do you see a CD/DVD drive in the device manager?
If yes, then remove it from the device list.

Then access the registry and remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Finally reboot the notebook and check if the CD/DVD drive would functions again

My cd/dvd drive fails due to error code 39, driver corrupt, I can't use update as it reports that it is the latest driver, I can't delete the driver because I need permission, I can't use Recover because it needs a working dvd drive. I've tried recover but it won't accept a network drive. What the heck do I do.

Answer:win8 cd drive failure code 39

Don't think that there are upper/lower filters with 8, so have a look at this thread, click here. Although it doesn't mention the error code it might fix it.
First, make a back-up of the registry.
Second, on the desktop right click the Start icon bottom left, and select Command Prompt (Admin). In the cmd pane copy and paste reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001 (as posted in the thread in the first link) and press enter. Reboot.

So I haven't used my dvd drives in a while (2 LiteOn iHAS224-06 models), I had no need to burn or copy anything so I'm not sure when I started having this problem. Anyways so today I try to copy 1 cd to another when I noticed my other dvd drive is not listed in my computers. So I opened device manager and I see that it has a warning symbol or whatever that is. I right clicked and selected properties and it says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" o I uninstalled it, rebooted and the same message. I tried searching for drivers through device manager and still nothing, it says that it's up to date. Couldn't find any drivers for it online either when I came across a forum post that said you don't need drivers for cd and dvd drives. So I tried fix number 3 listed on and that didn't do anything either.

I opened my case and switched the cables from my other drive with this drive and it seemed to work while the other one now had the code 10. I'm not sure if it's the cable because if that was the problem, it shouldn't be even listed on device manager right?

Then I tried manually editing the registry, and I read it said to delete the upperfilters and lowerfilters value, however I don't have either one of those listed so that's not helping me either.

I'm not sure what to do here.

Answer:CD/DVD Drive This device cannot start code 10. Need help with this.

Ok a quick update, I used the same sata cable on a completely different port and now my dvd drive is displaying in my computers and working fine. So could there be something wrong with the sata port on my motherboard? And again, wouldn't it just not even list it in device manager if it wasn't working?

I'm having a look at my aunt's laptop which is in a bit of a mess to be honest. Loads of installed progs and entries in the Run key of the registry and in the Startup folder of Start Menu. But apart from taking ages to start up, the main problem is that device manager has a problem (yellow exclamation mark) with the optical drive. It gives it a Code 41 error:

Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

As a result, the drive does not appear in My Computer, or in the Disk Management section of Computer Management. I have tried uninstalling the device and rebooting, hoping that it would pick up a clean driver, but still the same. I have also tried going to Update Driver, but the driver is the most recent.

Now, here's the interesting bit... I have tried another known working optical drive, and it is the same.

I thought there might be a link between this and all the junk that resides on this laptop, so I took some anti-malware measures...

I ran ATF-Cleaner, and MBAM removed 340 objects in the Quick Scan alone. A reboot and reinstall of the optical drive driver didn't fix it either.

Any suggestions?

Hi guys, I'm new to this and have searched through many threads to find answer's but to no avail.

I've recently installed win 7 32bit on a new hard drive and since the install I have not been able to use the D: drive.

I have been through the regedit to check upper and lower filters but there seems to be none,
I've uninstalled/re installed the device, which did nothing,
I have taken the cd drive out from my laptop and connected It to another and by doing that, the drive works perfect so I'm guessing It's got something to do with the OS???

Any help would be much appreciated!
