Preferred Solution: AGP Trouble

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: AGP Trouble

Have you checked your MBoard manual on how to set this up ? ?I'm assuming it is a setting in the BIOS since that board supports PCI, AGP and PCI Express

Hi guys,

Anybody experiencing these problems?

I am using Trillian messenger wich managed my AIM, YAHOO, ICQ and MSN accounts. About 4 hours ago all accounts disconnected. It tries to reconnect all the time but either it fails or it connects to one of the accounts and disconnects a few minutes later. If one or more accounts is connected for a few minutes I am not able to see the online friends (if any)

So I closed Trillian and re-started it. Didn't help.
I rebooted. Didn't help either.
I went to bed and a few hours later its still not working.

So I decided to use web-based ICQ to ask my friends who also use Trillian if they are experiencing problems.

I typed www.icq.com in my browser and it didn't find the website.
So I tried www.aol.com and www.aim.com and they didn't work either.
Then I tried www.msn.com. Didn't work.

So I thought maybe all .com's don't work anymore. So I typed www.download.com and few others but ALL of them work.

Any suggestions?

BTW, I am using Opera browser. Also tried IE, didn't work either. Also tried to disable Firewall, didn't work.

Answer:I am lost! IM trouble! Website trouble! WEIRDEST PROBLEM EVER SEEM! Please help me!

Also, yahoo.com and the google ads on TF don't work...
Could this be a virus?
I haven't received any attachements lately. I didn't install weird stuff.

I tried looking this up, tried searching multiple ways and I am not getting an answer, so here I am.

Last night I cut 34.8 GB from one drive, pasted it to another. It said 50 minutes, I went to sleep. 8 hours later, it says 50 minutes remaining, so I hit cancel. It has now been canceling for around 30 minutes.

What can I do to stop this? Can I shut down? Will I lose all the stuff I'm moving?

Answer:Trouble pasting, trouble canceling paste

Hi valenz9,

My personal observation on above is that at times the system is stuck moving data if there are a large number of small sized files involved. It is usually advisable to copy and paste data first and then delete the unwanted data from older location for data security. However, as in your case you are already stuck moving the data and it is not responding anymore, I would suggest you to go ahead and End the copying process with the help of Task Manager (Right click on Taskbar and click Start Task Manager). Once you have killed the task, the data might be divided into two halves i.e. in old location and rest in new location. I would suggest you to utilize a third party data copying utility to copy the data in one place. Once such application is TeraCopy. Note that copying may take a long time if there are a lot of small files involved. Also, the program shared is neither recommended nor endorsed by Dell.

Hope this helps.

I have trouble whenever start windows the start button appears as a white box and nothing appears on the desktop just the (just the background, no icons nor the gadgets) then I tried starting it on safe mode and did system restore however when it does start the mouse pointer keeps on appearing as working in background. I tried virus scan with ESET and so far nothing is detected. Tried task manager and saw nothing running (aside from virus scan, explorer and firefox)

Answer:Mouse Pointer trouble and startup trouble

Run sfc/scannow, see if that helps.

Hello all,
I hope someone can help but let me first start out by saying I'm very computer illiterate and get very nervous about trying to fix the PC. A couple of months ago, my monitor screen would get a greenish-overlay to it, then switch back to its regular appearance. I can still read the screen, it's just a green 'pall', for lack of a better word, on the screen. I thought it was the monitor and replaced the new monitor with an older one. After booting up the computer, the screen was normal until it reached a certain point in the startup and then it got the green overlay. I've unplugged the computer twice and when I've turned it back on, the screen starts normal and then gets the green overlay.
As if that weren't enough, now today my audio has stopped working. It worked fine last night so I don't know what happened. The speaker icon in the tray has disappeared and I tried unplugging, restarting, and then plugging the speakers back in and nothing happened. I removed the Audiotek drivers and restarted, and the computer detected new hardware - 'Multimedia Audio Controller'. I selected 'Find Drivers', and it tried looking online for a couple of minutes but came back and said it could not find any hardware for the device.
I know people will need more information to help, so let me know what information is required and I will attempt to find it (or ask how to find it).
Thanks!

I have a N-Router system, and an HP Laptop, and they were working fine up until last night when I was trying to get my DSi onto my router. I was changing things blindly and I guess I didn't change something back. I don't know what I did, or even if I did anything. My laptop says there is a connection, although it won't connect to it, so I think the settings are messed up, but i've tried changing the settings over and over again.

I am using Windows 7, and I very much suck when it comes to computer terms when talking about them. Sorry.

I have a WNR2000 router.

Thank you. Tommy

I had a ATI Rage 128 Pro in my new computer (the one I built) and it worked good, but everytime i'd log in i'd get the windows, "This program needs to be shut down" error, so i'd click ok. I could still change my display settings, etc etc so I didnt really care about the error.

One night I decided to fix the error though, I downloaded the drivers for the card from ATI's site and installed them and the software, I was playing with the software when I *accidently* changed a setting andmy screen went black. My monitor (15inch NEC lcd monitor) kept flashing something how it couldnt display that rate or whatever.

So I took that card out, and tried a diffrent card, it would show my computer booting up but when it would switch to my log in screen it would freeze the picture on the screen. (I could still log in, then shut my computer off from the start menu without seeing anything though) so I took that out and just used my motherboard's montior input for now. It really sucks.

How can I go back to using a video card? I tried uninstalling the software/drivers but it wont let me!

What card should I use btw, the rage128 pro (32mb card) or the ATI Radeon 64mb card? I know its a stupid question, but performance wise which one is better?

Answer:ATI video card trouble, big trouble.

You changed the refresh rate to something the card couldn't handle? Is that what your saying?.. Or do you not know what went wrong?

Having trouble starting up computer and freezing constantly while on site and trouble changing sites

Answer:I am having trouble recovering from trouble making

I am sorry I could not understand your problem. It seems you have several problems:1) You cannot start up your computer. You press the power button on the case of your computer and it does not start up.2) If it starts up, you cannot browse the web. It freezes on internets sites.3) If it does not freeze on one site, you cannot go ( change ) from that site to another site.Am I correct about the above assumptions ?A little info on your computer may be very helpful. You have Windows 7. Is it 32-bit or 64-bit ? Is it a notebook or a desktop ? How much RAM does it have ?What version of IE do you have installed ?Do you have SP1 and all other updates installed ?Do yo have an AV software installed ?The list can be extended to infinite.CoolGuy

Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000G Motherboard

My computer actually worked completely fine for several months untill recently
when i was playing world of warcraft (blah) and the UI started flickering. Scared of the video card failure I loaded up warhammer and F.E.A.R. to which I found everything to run completely fine. So i restarted my computer to which it would no longer boot windows. It would get to the welcome screen to which my screen would black out and have a distorted white box with RGB dotted into it (computer froze as well). In attempts to trouble shoot i booted into safe mode which actually booted completely fine EXCEPT this result

After having several of my computer savy friends and myself attempt to trouble shoot we came down to 2 solutions. 1) being the video card or 2) Power supply (to explain, the 7800 GS is heavily dependent on the 12V rail of the PSU so we thought possibly the PSU was not sending enough output to the Video card).

I tested the PSU with several PSU testers which all showed green so I plugged it back in and started it up. This time it worked completely fine..for the first few minuets. After that it restarted itself and froze at POST. So i turned it off and rebooted and now all I get is my power LED on my case blinking repeatedly and my HDD LED on my case stays solid.... Read more

Answer:Mic trouble

Has this mic ever worked for you? I've read a lot of complaints that the mic is very quiet, and unless you turn up the mic volume to max you will not hear anything from it.

When you have it plugged into the "proper port" double-click the speaker icon near the clock and make sure the mic is not muted and try turning it up. You may also need to adjust the sensitivity settings in Ventrilo.

Question: PC trouble

hey guys yesterday my PC kept freezing, which i found out was because of the graphic card getting loose, so i switched slots and stuff, and somehow the pwr switch wire came off, and now even if i put it back, the computer won't turn on. I've tried putting only the necessary onto the motherboard and it still wouldn't turn on. How ever there is a blue light indicating that the power supply works ? Please help guys It's been working fine for 2 years now.

Let me know of any info i missed, long time since i built a computer

Answer:PC trouble

What kind connection is your graphics card using?

Also, when you say the pwr switch wire came off, you do mean the one to turn on the computer with and not your power supply right? If so, make sure you put the connector back on properly. Sometimes all it takes is for it to be on backwards.

Question: psu trouble?

Hi, this forum helped me build a computer almost 4 years ago.

I do believe my power source has become defective, wanted to check here before I replace it though.

Turned off the computer before I left the house, came back 10 hours later to find computer had not completely shutdown. I hold power button to shut it down completely, then try to boot. Only I hear a clicking sound, and while my fans move, it is just barely. cpu fan just moves back and forth a quarter inch.

Trying the power button gives no response.

I've left it unplugged and have been been using my laptop in the meanwhile, every time I do try to plug it back it its same thing, clicking sounds, weak fan movement, no response when i try to boot.

I'm guessing I just need a new psu, pls let me know if need any other info or if its something else.

psu is a OCZ 520W.

Answer:psu trouble?

I didn't know OCZ did a 520W, still, it sounds like a PSU issue to me. I had a similar issue with a 700W OCZ.

Hi guys,

I am having serious issues with my gaming computer, I was in the middle of a game of counter strike source and it forze so I restarted, I had a ****-load of trouble trying to get it to boot back up It wouldn't even boot into safe mode. I finally got it working again and restored it to a few days back but it just froze again. I really do not want to restore my PC, there is over 30gb of music and about 15gb of videos on there. I don't know all the stuff about my PC, just the basics -

CPU - Intel Core2DUO 2.4ghz
Ram - 2gb Ram
Video Card - Nvidea 8800GT

And thats pretty much it.

Thanks for any help.

Answer:Serious Trouble With PC

what tempuratures are you getting on your cpu? Does it only restart when the computer is under load? CPUID will give us the motherboard model that you have. Worst case you could do a windows repair if that is needed and you would not loose your files.

Question: USB Trouble

Hey guys,

I'm having some terrible trouble with my PC... I'm running windows XP home SP2.

I some how managed to burn out the USB sockets on my mobo (Asus M2V), everything else works perfectly, but I can't use any USB device. When I plug in a USB device, there seems to be power going to it, but it's not working. For example, if I plug in a mouse, the lights will go on, but the mouse wount work. Same story with my USB hub.

So, I figured that I can't afford to replace my mobo at this point in time, so I decided to buy a PCI card with x3 USB ports, it installed fine, but same story as the USB ports on my mobo, the lights will go on the device, but it wount respond.

I've tried to uninstall anything USB related under device manager and the clicked to "scan for hardware changes" and it installed fine, but nothign changed. I also unistalled it again and then restarted my, but still nothing. I'm at that stage where the next thing I'm going to test, is how well my mobo reacts with a glass of water.

I apologise for the long wall of text and thanking you for any suggestions in advance.

Question: trouble with XP

I HATE WINDOWS!!! All I am trying to do is get this stupid software to recognize my CD-Rom drive as you can see from my other posts. Oh but no, Microsoft can't make it that easy. I have to download some program to do something with my upper and lower filters (at least that is what I recall one of you guys suggested). Oh no, wait, you can't do that until you download this little program from Microsoft called Mats Run. Oh but wait, again, can't run that because my computer isn't upgraded to the sp-3 pack (which everytime I let Microsoft download anything my computer doesn't work right afterwards). So I download the big mega file and I will do it manually. Nope can't do that until I backup my hard drive, so I go to the rollback function and follow the directions and it can't do it. Turn off the computer and try it again, WHY! If I didn't work this time, why will it work after the computer gets rebooted. I tried the same thing with uninstalling the cd drive twice and that didn't work either. XP was supposed to be easier and better than 98.....this is better. I have been working on these computer "issues" for over 2 weeks and I am so frustrated with this that I am on the verge of tears. I just want to build a big fire in the front yard and burn every thing that is associated with Microsoft and go buy an Apple. I have bought books, software, computers and on and on with this Microsoft logo/crap on it and this is what I get. One XP book alone is over 1200 pages and almost ... Read more

Question: trouble

so as many of you know, my son and i are in the middle of a gaming computer build. right now we are waiting for Christmas to come along. anyway, yesterday, he wanted to borrow my laptop (that i purchased used a year ago) to play some game that his current desktop would not play. so i lent it to him. he tried for over an hour to get the game to play on my computer, and finaly gave up. now, out of the clear blue, i get this pop up window that says my laptop is not running genuine Microsoft windows software. i have no idea for certain. but, there is an activation code showing in the system, and i have been getting updates (windows 7) from Microsoft all of this time. it says its running Microsoft windows 7 in one of the windows in control panel. so i am kind of at a loss. i did at one point press the button that is supposed to take me to Microsoft to "correct the problem", but it just sat there like it was loading, for more than 5 minutes before i closed out the window. until this happened, i thought it has genuine ms windows, but now i am not so sure. how can i tell for absolute certain? and if it is genuine, how do i get this pop up window to go away for good?

Answer:trouble

Look on the bottom of your laptop for the product key. Write it down.

Go to Start -> right click Computer -> Properties -> at the bottom, click Activate Windows -> choose to activate online

If it doesn't activate online, it should give you the option to call it in and activate it. Do so, and you'll have to speak/enter in the code shown on the screen. It may ask you how many systems this copy of Windows was installed on - just say 1. Then it will have you enter in a series of codes. After that it should be done.

Hello.  I am new to this forum.  I am definitely no expert on the pc. I know just a few tricks.  Recently my performance started going downhill.  Facebook takes a longer time to load.  My favorite game locks up after several levels.  I can't watch some videos that would normally not be a problem.  I can't use a website that has a lot happening on a page.

So, i tried what I know.  I updated Norton and ran it.  Nothing found.  I ran ccleaner and cleared up some space.
I have defraggler on my machine and should have run it, but I didn't.

Then I started thinking what else I could do.  Bad idea.  I first found malwarebytes, installed it, and ran it.  It found one virus, but my problems were not helped.  Then I found combofix, installed it and ran it.  That didn't seem to find anything.   So, I uninstalled both malwarebytes and combofix.

When I installed combofix, I did not do it from the page I found later with a warning not to run it without posting to a forum first and getting help.  Unfortunately, I did not write down where I had been.  i created an account with combofix and tried clicking on a link to print the instructions.  I got an error message, then my printer locked up and flashed a little blinky light at me.  The printer would not turn off or print the page. Please could someone help me with this problem? When I try to run IE6 , I get an error message window saying "Windows cannot find '(null)'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search." And I cannot open the browser. However, Im typing this through the 'Search' option on the Start menu.

Also, my desktop background has changed itself to a flickering background of white and light yellow and I cannot access Desktop properties by right clicking on the desktop. When I right-click I get a drop-down menu that looks the same as when one right-clicks within an IE6 webpage.

edit : the desktop file turned out to be an HTML file!

I tried various online scans and tests but all report normal activity on my computer and none found anything wrong.

Im running on WINXP SP1.

OK. I think I got what you said.

The adapter goes on the computer end.

Video card -> DVI to VGA adapter -> VGA cord -> Monitor

I think you are doing it backwards.

Hello, I recently bought a VGA to Component (RGB) cable and it arrived today. I bought it solely for the purpose of hooking my old HD-Ready TV as my second monitor.

Here's the situation. My laptop (Vaio NS) only has a VGA output, and I'm pretty sure it's capable of TV-Out. So before buying the cable, I did quite a bit of browsing and I do remember reading about successful VGA to component TV attempts.

The trouble I've encountered though, is when I get the two connected through the cable, and with the monitor set to both, or the VGA out, the TV just displays GREEN and PINK flickers, or flashes. There are slight moments where I could make a silhouette of my desktop wallpaper, between the flashes.

I have tried setting the second monitor's refresh rate from 60 to 120, to no avail. Nor has changing the resolution down to 480 or to 1080p.

Does anyone know of a setting that will work, or does this hardware set up just wouldn't work? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

If it's any help, my graphics card is a build in Intel Series 4 Chipset family, but says GMA 4500MHD in the properties.

Thanks in advance to any help! If I'm right in thinking my settings are wrong in both software and hardware terms, can anyone offer a low-cost alternative?

Answer:VGA to TV-out trouble

What is the description of your TV? Could be a setting in your TV itself that is causing this.

I have a laptop running vista(which I hate). I had trouble deleting a folder about a week going on two and I thought I had fixed the problem when another one started.I cannot get somethings to open.I have reinstalled aol about 3 times now with no luck. I can check my emails and open a few websites but I cannot open the banks where I have my checking accounts. I check them everyday but have not been able to in aol or IE7 since last week. Over the weekend I downloaded firefox and was able to get in with it but I can't seem to get in any other way I had avast(free version) on it but thought it might be the problem and tried to uninstal it a couple of times with no luck. Finally I went back to there website and downloaded there removal utility and was able to remove it.
I have done a restore on it twice but the both times it only goes back 5 days and I have had this problem longer than that so no restore point will work.Any suggestions on getting things to open for me especially the bank!!!

Answer:Trouble With Aol And Ie7

Go to Start and type in "iexplore -extoff" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
Internet Explorer will launch without addons - then try and access the sites that are giving you a problem.
If you're able to access the sites, then it's a problem with an addon in IE. You can disable addons individually by closing IE, then reopening it by clicking on the IE icon (don't redo the command above). Then go to the Tools menu and select "Manage addons".

Question: Am I in trouble?

Hi. I installed xp, the oem version that came with my daughter's computer, on a used laptop i bought for her at christmas. I also installed it on my dad's computer when he was having trouble with ME. I didn't think it would be a big deal but others are telling me otherwise. What problems can I expect and what is the best course of action at this point? Thanks!

Answer:Am I in trouble?

The only problem I see in your future is that you will be asked to activate the software .... within 30 days. With OEM, you will probably get the message that it is activated, but once you download sp2, you will need to activate, or else it will lock you out except for safe mode after the grace period.... there are ways around this, but this site will not endorse hacking.

Question: USB Trouble?

I am having a strange problem with my Toshiba Satellite A105 laptop running Windows XP
Home w/SP2. I noticed that I could only print one line of any document on my USB printer and then the laptop would error saying the document could not be printed. At times I could get 3 copies of the document when only requesting one. I then tried to print to my wireless network printer from the laptop and had the same results, one page of a multi page report printed this time. I suspected a USB problem and attached my SanDisk to the front USB port and it was not recognized, in the rear port it was recognized but no files were displayed when I opened the drive. I have run SFC and done a virus scan as well as a spyware scan to no avail. I can not find a Restore point to use as I do not know when the problem may have started. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:USB Trouble?

Have you tried re-installing the printer according to the manufacturer's directions? Before doing anything else this should be the first thing checked out.

Question: Mic trouble

Hey everyone, I have a problem with my mic. I'm trying to record something for myself, but I found it's too quiet to hear, in playback. I know I have recorded something, seeing as i tapped the mic a few times, and I heard those faintly. I then looked that problem up. I have located my mic boost, but for some reason, when I activate mic boost, a high pitched squeal comes out of my speakers. I then realized that it must be that whatever is going on with my mic is being sent directly to my speakers. It's not that My computer is hearing my voice then echoing it back through the speakers, but whatever I say into my microphone comes out simulatneously through my speakers. instantly, as if my speakers were the receiving end of a call or something.

anyways, Id really appreciate some help on this. In the meantime, I'm going to fiddle with the mixer and see if I accidentally turned on something I wasn't supposed to.
BTW, i have windows 7 and Realtek HD audio software and codecs

Can someone help me please? I installed a 1gb ram chip in my PC and now My computer wont come on,Took out the chip and still no video.PC starts up but no video? HELP PLEASE

Answer:Ram Trouble HELP PLEASE

Can you boot into the Bios? If so, see if it recognizes the amount of RAM you have now. Do you have a separate Video card or are you using the VGA port on the motherboard? If you do not have video to the Bios, then make sure monitor is plugged in correctly and turned on. If you have a separate Video card, reseat it into the slot as it might have come dislodged when you pulled the RAM.

Anyone got any ideas,

I have read the previous thread relating to booting issues and am still having problems. I noticed the other day that my system decided to shut itself off twice within the last 24 hours. Thinking this was a heat issue, I opened the case and blew out the fans in an effort to clean them up.

Once I rebooted the system I got the "A disk read error occured; Press CNTL ALT DEL to restart" message. Once I did that the same message appeared, but I noticed a clicking noise within the machine...wondering if it is the HD having problems. I am currently running XP, have checked all cable connections, inserted the XP disk to try and boot from it. When I attempt the read the disk it starts working as though it's going to check the system then the screen goes black and nothing else happens.

Please help!

Sometimes, even when I'm not playing anything, my screen turns black (Text shown: No Video Card Detected) and then the CPU fan goes nuts and it will keep it like this until I turn the pc off. And after that if I try to turn it back on the screen just won't react (it remains black) even after the pc makes that beep sound. Only after multiple tries it will start as normal but it will always request a windows repair. And after all of this, with some luck it works for like 15 minutes till the screen goes black again. +for some reason the CPU is kept at 100% even though it has thermo-conducting paste. It's quite an old issue and sometimes I don't have it for like months or I just can't use my pc properly for weeks at a time. Please, help me asap since I'm getting sick of this.

After AVG hit on some malware, Win32/Kryptik.XOX, and Trojan horse Generic26.AIKP, I've been having problems. AVG moved them to the Virus Vault, and I ran a full scan of AVG and Malawarebytes Anti-Malware, both of which came up clean so I thought that was the end of it. But since then, my system has been acting a bit unstable, to the point that it gave me the blue screen of death the day before yesterday and after that, when I logged into my user account I got a blank desktop until I ran lodctr /r to rebuild my performance counters after getting an Event ID 3012 in my Event Viewer, which that, along with turning off UAC and disabling the Windows Live Family Safety Service that was hanging on startup, seemed to have fixed that problem. But I'm still getting some errors and warnings and I'm concerned that I may still be infected. If anyone can help walk through and check/fix whatever's still buggered, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Question: New CPU trouble

I resently purchased an AMD 5000+ black edition, socket AM2, to go with my Asus M2N-sli mobo. When i turn the power on it doesn't display anything. My old prossesor still works and i tried putting the new prossesor in another computer (with Asus M2N32-sli wireless edition) and it worked. The only difference between these 2 boards it that one has a 570 chipset and the other is a new 590 chipset mobo. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Answer:New CPU trouble

are you using a new video card on your new mobo or onboard graphics ? uf you are using video card make sure the mobo is getting enough voltage from gfx card or the video card is at the right speed also make sure you have your atx power connector connected to your mobo properly. thats usually cause sometime when building a new computer.

Answer:CD rom trouble

Check to see if recording is enabled. Sometimes it gets turned off for no apparent reason and causes plenty of trouble when trying to burn CDs.

To do so, just right-click on the CD drive in windows explorer, go to properties, go to the Recording tab, and make sure that the box is checked to "Enable CD recording on this drive".

I purchased this laptop in 11/14 It came with win 8.1 Right from the start I had hardware issues. Just about all parts have been replaced. At one point I was able to reach the service department in US after recieving laptop back from repairs. NOT SO ANYMORE........I have had nothing but horrific service from the call center in INDIA. Not a racist. I made the horrible mistake to accept and try the free upgrade to win 10. Ever since then my laptop has been useless for the most part.  I have called the customer service tech center more times than I can recal and have spent countless hours allowing them to troubleshot issues. Unfortunately nothing is resloving the issues with the sleep/wake function. every variation to all aspects of device manager and settings have been tried, drivers, updates, new builds, resety, restore etc....I was sent recovery discs last April for win 8.1 I CANT EVEN USE THEM TO REVERT BACK TO 8.1 I called the tech support again..and as usual it is the most infuriating process to go over and over all of the issues and ingformation with someone new each time.  I spend HOURS trying to reslove these issues and nothing works. I called again today and they disconnected me.  I call back and there is a recorded message saying they are having technical difficulties, call again and it sounds as if I have reached a fax line. Question: PSU Trouble!

Hey guys!

I just bought a new PSU (OCZ StealthXStream 600W PSU - SLI Ready ATX2.2 12cm LED Fan - Ebuyer) but I've had some problems trying to make it work!

Everything went well enough. I could connect everything to how it was, but then I noticed something. I got to the main power supply connector...thingy (yes I'm knew to all this! sorry for my lack of detail )

http://img365.imageshack.us/img365/5405/52367407cc7.jpg
The highlighted red square is all that my PSU fits into it. It fits in fine, but then there's the 4 other square...things..pins I think they're called? I don't know! :P

NOTE: This isn't my mobo, it's just one I found on Google, but I couldn't explain it in words and I don't have a good enough camera to take a clear picture of my own mobo

Any way, after I had connected everything a green light came onto the motherboard. I presume this means the PSU is feeding power to the mobo, but when I actually try and turn on the computer nothing will happen. Not even the fan spins. :\ I'm currently using my old PSU again to post this message (400w).

So, would I be right in saying this can't possibly work because the PSU doesn't have enough pins or whatever to fit into the mobo?
have I just wasted ?60? :|

Sorry if I've not said enough to explain whats happening, but I'll try and answer your questions as best I can (if you guys can try to help )

Thank you!

Answer:PSU Trouble!

If I'm looking at your power supply correctly you main plug is universal for older ATX boards that had 20 pins. Your board is newer and has a 24 pin main( for pci exopress). Your power supply has 20/24 pin main where a 4pin section is detachable. You should have a 4pin plug that looks like the 20 that will fill that space.

Hello everyone, this is my first post of many to come I hope =)

.... helping others that is.

for now, I have a problem with my keyboard. I am no idiot when it comes to computers, built my own, install my own, and I'm a student in IT (networking, vista, server 2008, ect ect)

I recently downloaded Windows 7 (It is legitimate, evaluating it for testing from technet.com)

I am concerned, as my current keyboard is not receiving the delete button on my Lycosa Razer Keyboard. I press the delete button, and it does not delete anything. When editing documents I must use the backspace, when in games I simply cannot press it at all. It has no effect.

Yet I know it is receiving SOME sort of signal, because whenever I have a text highlighted, and I press delete, it deletes it. Not because it's working, but because it recognizes I pressed something and is trying to replace it. Such as if I highlighted a text, then I pressed the key "D" it would replace the highlighted text with "D". When I press delete, it replaces it with nothing.

So important facts are-
Delete button is not being read correctly
The button is NOT stuck, I have sprayed it out numerous times.
I am running Windows 7, recent clean install
I have updated all drivers for my system (minus the total motherboard package for incompatability reasons)
I have tried downloading Razer's Driver, and it has not worked.
The system recognizes a button is being pressed, and the lycosa driver applicati... Read more

try the paperclip trick to test ur PSU if it powers on itself.
try this:
put your paperclip into the pin with the green wire and the other end into one of the two black ground wires beside the green wire. It doesn't matter which one, either will work.

go here for more clear explanation :

BTW u dont hav to wrap it with tape

if its new it should work, u probably connected the power switch in the wrong socket.

i have thought that flashing the bios might fix it? but i dont know if i shud cos the computer works fine except for the ram slots....

Hello damselindistress and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. The information from the log appears to be incomplete. We need a complete HijackThis (HJT) log file to be able to analyze what is happening on your computer. If you do not have a copy of HijackThis or do not have the latest version (1.99.1) then download it from here: HijackThis_sfx.exe Double-click on the file you just downloaded and click on the UnZip button to install the program. It will be installed to the C:\Program Files\HijackThis\ folder by default.Boot normally, start HijackThis and click the Do a system scan and save a log button to perform a scan and create a log file. When the scan is complete, Notepad will open up with the log file in it. While in Notepad, press Ctrl-A to select all text and then Ctrl-C to copy the text to the clipboard.POST the log in this thread using the Add Reply button. Click in the data-entry window and press Ctrl-V to paste the log into the window. Add any other comments which you believe might be helpful in our analysis. and click the Add Reply button.I will review your log when it comes in.DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL I CHECK THE LOG, AS SOME OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTERIn regards to the DSO exploit, Spybot will pick that up in every scan. Hi. I have Windows Vista on this computer and I want to use this old web cam. The problem is that I don't have any discs or anything for it. My computer automatically installed the drivers but I don't know what to do now so that I can use it. Thanks for any help you can offer this is frustrating trying to find a solution on my own.

You're online. Is the manufacture gone? Go to the thier site and find the webcam and download the software or the updated software to run it. I would imagine you wouldn't have a problem after that. Luck... Jazz

Question: RAM Trouble

Hey guys I've been having a rather unusual problem with my recently bought ram. I bought 1GB of Ram to improve my computer along with my already installed 512MB Ram but every time i place the gig of rim inside and make sure the white clips are "clicked" to the Ram my PC only shows the 512MB Ram in bios and Everest. In bios it says "None" where it should say 1GB and in Everest it shows the 512MB Ram and my Old 256MB Ram which was taken out. I have tried only using the 1GB of Ram which seems to work but my screen stays in sleep mode so i can't see if it is or not and when i put both the 512MB Ram and 1GB Ram in together my computer acts as if the 1GB doesn't exist. I checked the limits on my motherboard and it says the max is 2GB so i can't really understand what is going on! My motherboard is a p4i65g Prescott 800 Dual Channel DDR 400.

Answer:RAM Trouble

hmm very unusual..

i would say that the brand of ram you have is different from your 512mb stick, and im not certain on this but you may not be able to run dual channel with all of it in.

All i can suggest is taking out your 512mb stick and putting your new 1gb stick(s) in. Give your ram slots a nice clean out and then start spinning round 3 times and clapping then turn ur pc on.

GOOD LUCK

Question: hd trouble

hi.
anyone know why chkdsk runs at every boot up, it used to be every 3 or 4 boot ups, recently i get msg saying hd is about to fail but that has stopped and wdh data lifegaurd diagnostic software says that it fails the spin up test but passes an extended test

thanx mark

Answer:hd trouble

Well...if it cannot spin up, it cannot operate properly.

I'd take all those messages...as an indication that you can expect it to fail anytime.

Chkdsk runs at boot when it detects file system or hard drive problems which it can try to overcome. It cannot overcome everything.

Question: cd rom trouble

I have a creative cd rom (cd5233E) that has stopped working properly.  It started when I tried to install an ethernet card that didnot work and was removed.  Now My Computer shows a cd rom as d drive but device manager shows no cd rom.  In properties for d drive, it shows nothing for system files ( it should have FAT here).  The cd rom will play music through the cd player program and it will install software.   However, when I try to record music into media player, I get error message about not reading digital and computer has switched to analog.  I have tried removing and reinstalling cd rom as well as reinstalling the driver.  No luck.  Also no luck with recommended driver from creative labs.  (I am using win 98se).

Answer:cd rom trouble

Windows could be confused.  Also turn the power off.  Get inside your case disconnect the ethernet card, and the cd-rom. .Then unplug power plugs to your mother board reset bios by removing the jumper and placing it back on. put everything back together first the power plugs on your mother board, then the cables on the cd-rom then boot up...Bios should now see it..also download any drivers it may need from its manufacturer...Windows Xp has this thing about compatible hardware...it blows, but what are you going to do.

Question: Trouble with T61

Hi, new here, hope someone will have some tips.....Last night I went to go online and my computer (T61) wouldn't do much. This is a relatively new computer (I bought it in May). Some background: It came with Symantec and the Client Security Solution. Symantec drives me crazy so within the first week I deleted it. Immediately the Client Security Solution box started popping up each time I logged on saying I needed to Verify Identity. ("Reason for authentication: Your windows Password was changed recently. Please enter your windows password to synchronize with Client security solution). The only thing is I never had a password that I knew of, never changed it. What I have been doing is just to cancel or close down the box. What is going on now: the computer will boot up as far as when the Client Security Solution box comes up, but now I can no longer close out the box. The wireless radio is powered off and I can't turn it on.....I can't get to the menu, I can't click on anything in the taskbar......does anyone have any hints? Any idea what might be wrong? also, one of my mouse keys is falling off.....should I just ship the whole thing back since it should be still under warranty?

Answer:Trouble with T61

Justme - open the Client Security Solution program (ThinkVantage in the Program Menu) and de-activate this program.  That will solve your security window pop-up problem on login. I hope you have replaced your Symantec security software with something else.  We recommend the Trend Micro Internet Security package. You also may want to download the fixes Lenovo has provided - particularly with regard to power management.  Click on the ThinkVantage icon that came with your computer and select "update my system". These steps cleared up my login problems, so far - I am holding my breath. RB2030

Question: dvd-rw trouble

okay iv got a sony dvd rw dw-d22a drive and i just bought aload of dvd-rw and inside the dvd-r's it says, that because the disks are 16x, i will need to upgrade my dvd drives firmware, iv googled but i carnt find anything about it.where will i be able to get the fireware from?, and no my drives not listed on the sony site:(

Answer:dvd-rw trouble

Just one example of how you can ruin a drive with a firmware update if done incorrectly:http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=149990Some SONY drives are actually made by LiteOn. That drive is listed as a 16x dual layer drive. I don't see why you would need to update anything. Have you actually tried burning a disc in it?Not all discs are compatable with all drives unfortunately, so there is a bit of trial and error there as well. Hopefully these will work just fine.

Ok, I'll try to keep this as short and simple as possible.....My laptop in trouble is a Toshiba Satellite M45-S265. The operating system is gone off the hard drive and I need to put one back on. The problems I am facing are that the CD drive is inop and my BIOS does not support booting from USB. I have the original CD's that came with the computer though. The computer is an IDE hard drive, and I have an old external hard drive that is IDE as well. Is there any way to put the hard drive from my laptop into the casing for the external and get the OS back onto it using another computer and the CD's? If so, how would I go about doing it? If not, what other options do I have? Thanks in advance!

Joe

Answer:OS trouble!! Please Help!

windows install looks at the hardware (ie motherboard) that it is being installed on, so just jamming a windows install from one computer into another machine usually will not work. unless you use another Toshiba Satellite M45-S265 and still there is no guarantee.

is network boot an option in BIOS ?

try connecting an external cd drive, even if it is USB, the bios may recognize it as a cd drive

Did you try a format? Since the machine is back from repair, some hardware that was replaced may not be identical. It's worth a shot...whiteatom

I am attempting to connect 2 computers. For simplicity call them A and B. A is running Win2000, and B Win98SE. Both have Ethernet adapter cards, and are connected with an Ethernet cable.Computer A sees B perfectly. It recognizes it, lists it as part of the network, and since I've installed File Sharing, and mapped the hard drives, I can do what I want with the files on B from A.The reverse is not true. Computer B shows that it recognizes the existence of A, but when I try to connect I am told that I need a password to make the connection. I have no idea where to go to find the password. I never intentionally established one for either computer. How Can I either find the password requested, or eliminate the need for one?Tom

Answer:One-Way Trouble on LAN

Is this a standard Ethernet Cat5E or a crossover cable? You need the latter if no router, switch, etc. is involved.

Hello there. I've had this ol' laptop of mine for roughly two years, and its hard drive decided that it wanted to die, so I went ahead and bought myself a new one.Alas, when I try to install Windows, the setup utility can't detect my HDD. I didn't have any trouble manually installing the thing, and it didn't come with any CDs or manuals, so I'm a bit lost now. Here's what I've got:HP Pavilion zv5230us512 MB RAMWith a new:Toshiba MK6034GAX Hard Disk Drive60 GB capacityATA-6 interface5400 RPMTrying to install Windows XP Home Edition SP1.Everything goes smoothly when the computer is first booting; the CD happily unloads its files and then asks me if I would like to install, repair, or exit setup. Many times now I have asked for it to install Windows, but it then told me that it could not detect my HDD, and that I should check to make sure everything is installed and connected and whatnot. Now clearly, the problem could very well just be that the thing has been installed improperly, but I'm rather certain that I've put it in right, so I was wondering what input you fellows might have as to why the bloody thing isn't working.(Also, as far as I'm aware, the hard drive is spinning up; I can't be sure because my laptop makes lots of noise and the HDD bay is right next to the CD drive, but I'm pretty sure I'm hearing something other than the CD's spinning.)

Answer:Trouble with New HDD

the bay is next to the cd drive? doesnt vibration kill hard drives? i mean, when my CPU fan blades somehow came off a while back the vibration caused my system to become extremly unstable, the fan has been replaced though...

Hello Kurt, Welcome to BleepingComputer. Nothing in the log except for a HJT.exe that needs a folder around it so it has a place to store logs and backups if you need to use it. I suggest you get your friend back over because it sounds like changes have been made in Internet Explorer? I will suggest I recently had similair issue where I could get to the bank but not into my account. I run a tight ship and every cookie has to ask first, after a while the computer learns which cookies you never allow which is about all of them for me. Well, it appears I got a prompt from the bank to allow a cookie and blocked it without thinking. Take a look in IE > Tools > Internet Options > Security > Trusted Sites > Sites > Then make sure the web sites you need are there, if not add them. Then move to Privacy then Edit. Add the sites you need to get to and make sure you are set to Always Allow. Careful not to change any bad one there that are blocked. I hope this helps.

Question: Serious OS trouble

Hi,

A friend bought a new laptop, the msi gx740. On this laptop windows7 64bit professional is pre-installed.
the laptop has a 500gb harddisk wich where devided into 4 parts:
- 12 gb OS recovery - OEM
- 100 mb unknown space ?boot or something? - OEM
- 270 gb OS-installation - Basic
- rest Data - Basic

He thought a 270 gb OS part was too big so he tried to change the size to around 50 - 75 gb and add the rest to the data part.
