uncomunicative key boards

Question: uncomunicative key boards

computer= idesign 170 pacard bell S/N01157882010i was given this unit ,told it had bad hard drive(true) however i cannot do any thing with it as when it starts no wired keyboard seems to work, the unit beeps the keyboard problem noise, when i press keys it pauses as it receives the signal(i can also wake it with del key) but seems not to recognise any key as a command (f1 f12 f8 ect) thusly i can progress no further with rebuild i have tried 4 keyboards! i have reached the end of safe experimentation any help greatly appreciated.ps it comes with a wireles board as standard but this is fairly obviously no use at this stage.

Preferred Solution: uncomunicative key boards

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: uncomunicative key boards

Remove all power to the machine , open the case and carefully remove the CMOS battery from the mainboard for about 10 minutes...This will reset the BIOS back to the default values...It's about the size of a dime part # CR2032.Reinstall it and power up to see if this works. If not that PS2 port is probably shot

what is the difference between these?
LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR
LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR

i think its that the UT reacts to UV lighting, is that it?

Answer:dfi has 2 sli boards?

Actually they both are uv reactive. They seem very similar. I know the t in ut is Tweak, so maybe it's better for oc'ing.

Question: GPU and SB boards

Look I know I am probably going to end up in strife but I am a total tek-nobrain and I would just like to ask one simple question.

I want to do a build but am limited a bit by budget so... if I build a Sandy Bridge machine with an H67 board and IF the CPU graphics fail / blow up / burnout etc but the main cores remain in good working order can one then use a graphics card on that board for graphical purposes?

I know its a REALLY dumb question and I have tried to find simple answer in Google and have been made to feel as if I should automatically know - but I don't.

Can some kind soul please let me know if what I ask is possible.

Appreciation in advance.

Answer:GPU and SB boards

From a hunch, if that was to happen you would need to replace the CPU. The on chip gpu is part and parcel.

Unless someone here says different.

Hi all, my name is Bert. Well, Ive had my computer for about a year now and just a month ago, it started giving me lots of problems. First, its Vista. Second, I have over 10,000 songs on there and lots of other personal writings as well. I had customized my computer, had all the shortcuts on my desktop etc etc etc and one day, when I turned it back on, everything was gone. Everything I had customized was gone, and subsequently my music and files were also gone. I was shattered to be honest. Well, I made a search on my computer and found my music and files on some other folder and I copied all the files back into my original "My Documents" folder. So as I finished doing that, i re-customized everything and for a bit everything was back to normal. So I turned off my computer and woke up the next day and turned it back on and everything was gone again! My files were gone and everything I had customized had disappeared. I searched for my files once again and yes, they popped up but to this day I am unable to open and access them. Question: m/boards

The time has come to do a major upgrade on my pc. Can any one suggest a suitable m/board? I'm looking for something with onboard sound and may be graphics. I use the machine for mainly office and image editing programmes, so super whiz bang graphics are not essential to me. I thought something that can run maybe a 2 to 2.4 ghz chip and at least 512 mb ram. don't want to spend a fortune though, the rest of the machine is current in spec, its just the m/board and chip thats holding things back

Answer:m/boards

Nforce2 boards have good onboard sound and MX440 graphics on the MSI K7N2G-L board is ok,have it on a pc myself.[also onboard lan{which I use} and agp slot.]Costs about £82

Mainly because I don't understand the specifications. I'm building a new system, it will use a Intel 2500k processor (maybe an AMD 1100T depending on what is best for rendering in 3d software, I know I'd need an AMD board if so), but I'm at a loss as to what board to get.

First, this system will be used to play games, but it will mainly be used for 3d rendering. It will use only one single video card and I am planning on overclocking it to the max.

GA-Z77-D3H: The cheapest one, this was the one I was originally planning to get (I don't want to spend too much money), but I heard that in order to overclock to the fullest this board just won't cut it, so I started looking at more expensive ones.

GA-Z77X-UD3H: I don't understand the specs, so I don't know what is actually better about this board, the only thing I assume is that it will overclock better than the D3H.

G1-Sniper M3: Same as above.

GA-Z77X-UD5H: Clearly the best out of the lot going by the price. I'd really rather not get this one though, it's just too much.

Any information and advice is on these boards and the differences between them are what I'm after, as well as your own thoughts on what would be better for the system I plan on building.

Thanks
Astralogic

Edit: My main focus is on the Sniper and UD3H, forget the other two, ones too expensive and the others too cheap to trust. So could you tell me the differences between them. Also do you know ... Read more

I've had a hard time making up my mind lately whether I want to switch from XP x64, which is real nice and fast, and Vista Basic x64. I chose Basic since I dont run Aero or media center anyway and it really saves on resouces.

The problem has been that I have been picking some motherboards that are not compatable with Vista. It's like, when Vista first came out, nobody mentioned that, besides all of the hardware requirements you had to have, your motherboard needs to be compatable also.

I've already been burned once when I bought an ABIT KV-85 board a month ago. Their tech assured me it was compatable. It wasn't, and I had all kinds of problems. It's on it's way back to the factory now for some kind of replacement, hopefully.

Next I bought an MSI board, the K8MM3-V, that the vendor assured me would work with Vista. I never got around to offcially checking on that but it didn't matter, because after I installed it, it was dead on arrival. So I sent it back to MSI and basically had to beg them to send me another one without charging me any extra money. Long story there. But basically what I ended up with was, since they don't make these boards new anymore is a refurbished K8MM3-V. Wow, lucky me!

At this point, just to cover myself, I also went ahead and ordered my old standby brand, an ASUS K8V-MX. I should add, at this point, that the reason I keep ordering all of these older Socket 754 motherboards is that allows me to continue to u... Read more

Giys n Gals.
Bit stymied on what to look for when getting ddr3 for a mobo that I'm considering buying.

Seems to be loads of memory actually stated for Intel chipsets, but what do I look for that says it'll work with other AMD based boards. The mobo is a M4A785TD-M EVO with a AMD Phenom II X2 550 AM3 3.1Gh processor (good combo?) but I'm a little stuck with the momory. It's gonna be a HTPC/general purpose house machine (no gaming) but I want 4Gb as I'm doing all the family video editing at the mo (yawn!!!).

DDR3-12800 timings I don't think are a major issue as price does come into the equation. Was looking at the G-Skill Eco memory but seems only to be for intel spec.

Thanks

Answer:Memory for AM3 boards

Asus site is a piece of crap again today, you never can find a product site through google, and today the site decides to just freeze on me without even trying to load properly, so I can't get my hands to the QVL memory list from Asus. Here's what Crucial tells compatible with the board: http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=M4A785TD-M EVO
Pretty much implies it's at least capable of any decent DDR3 1600 RAM, CL9 should be fine.
These, from the Crucial list are pretty good and decently priced: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...1052315794 1052429371&name=Crucial Technology
I see no reason for these not to work either, although Corsair has no compatibility list for your exact board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145260
These could work, although "designed for P55" http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277 Probably not worth the gamble though, it's not that much of a price difference anymore.

Hey all,

I just recently found this site and I'm amazed at all the info about computers that I thought I knew, but I really didn't. I've been looking around the site for about an hour now and I'm liking everything I see. I do however, have a question for you guys. I just recently tried to run imesh (file-sharing program as I'm sure many of you know) and well, I go to click download or even one of the menus (file/edit etc) and the program freezes on me. I asked a friend and he said it could be spyware. But I downloaded ad-aware and installed in and I cleared everything that it said on there. So, I'm lost as to what I can do about this and any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I belong to a message board from a favorite sport, I won't indulge which one, and I was wondering if anyone here knows how to uncover peoples many different usernames. I used to be able to do it, but I haven't needed to do it lately and I forgot how to do it. The reason I ask is that this once respectable board is turning into a nightmare with all the childish posters using it for outwar sites, spamming and just plain being a-holes. I know of a few people on there who have multiple usernames and they are trashing the boards. I just want to expose these people and let them know that the boards are not to be used for the purpose of being arrogant a-holes. I really like that board and it's getting sickening to the point that I don't want to post there anymore. Any ideas? Help I'm suffering from Analysis Paralysis !

I'm getting a new pc and after starting to check into the ins & outs of various components I feel further from a final decision than when I started. Thanks to input from some here I know that I should pay attention to my case PSU +12V rail Amps (over 24A or 2 rails) and have decided to settle for a low end GPU till I get into gaming (7600GS). But what about motherboards, mem, etc ?

I'm in Japan and a net shop "Faith" has reasonably good deals but don't give much discount for downgrading from the latest GPU 7950GT, etc. They use Asus m/boards, etc. Not being a gamer yet is it likely that I'd be worse off for using a cheaper board ? Same question for RAM mem, of course Corsair and the likes are best but I don't think I can justify paying the extra when perhaps I wouldn't notice any diff ?

Any views ?

Answer:m/boards, mem top end or medium ?

The price of Corsair here in Japan is just plain nuts. Unless you plan to overclock, some good quality standard ram will work fine. I am using "samsung original" ram (purchased from Faith) and have never had any problems with it.

Corsair prices are great in the US, but here in Japan the price doubles. Not worth it IMO. Are you getting one of Faith's premade systems, or a "full kit" build it yourself package?

Question: Radeon boards.

I have an Emachine with an Athlon 64 processor. I want to upgrade the graphics board, with a better ATI, as the paper owrk says that is the only one to use. Anyone have any suggestions on what to get? I am looking at the X1300 pro, but I see there are 3 different models. I am running 2.3 gigs of ram in the system now. I am not sure if the ram which is DDR, and the graphics board that has GDDR2 is compatable, or DDR2. I do not know what these stand for. The graphics in it is the Radeon express 200, and I would like to upgrade to something else to free up that extra 128 megs of ram that is on that processor.

Thanks

Answer:Radeon boards.

Hi and welcome to TS!

First, we need to know:

1.- System specs (motherboard, type of slot, like PCI, AGP, PCI-E)
2.- PSU (power supply) wattage, amperage on the +12V rail. (Look at the sticker attached to the PSU, you need to open your case to find it)
3.- Your budget (probably consider a new PSU, because most e-machines PSU's are junk)

To help you out, check this thread by Howard:
http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic51543.html

BTW, it doesn't matter if you get a video card with DDR, DDR2 or GDDR3 RAM. It will be compatible with your system. And you don't necessarily need an ATI video card, you can buy a Nvidia one too

Question: epox boards

ive heard from a lotta people that epox boards are good for OC'ing, but ive also heard that the athlon xp 2100 is not. now i wanna make sure that i can play doom 3 on medium settings when it comes in. thats why im buying a radeon 9600,. the 2100 runs at 1.733 ghz. is this gonna be enough for medium, or should i OC it. i got 2 case fans, and a huge heatsink and fan for the CPU.

Answer:epox boards

There are many nforce2 and VIA Epox boards that were nice for overclocking (still are). Your XP2100 and your board might give you mutiplers (unlocked also). You could try it and see how far you get. However - even with just a 2100 at stock clock as long as you have the 9600 and about a gig of ram maps and textures should be fine. You might have to bump the in game settings down with doom3 to meduim and about 1024x768, but that's ok (to keep a good frame rate). Games with known large maps like Far Cry really benefit with alot of ram (at least 1 gig) and loading times. You should be fine there, just might have to go with meduim settings - which might look fine.

Answer:any crossfire boards yet

Well im not sure about a release date...but to answer one of your questions..

Crossfire will not work on a board with SLi. It is a Nvidia technology. Crossfire boards will need to have an ATI chipset, like the xpress 200

Asus P5Q Pro
Asus P5Q Deluxe
Asus P5Q3 Deluxe Wifi-AP

Need a board for my Core 2 CPU and I'm running out of time on Ebay. All the reviews are much of a muchness so I need some quick opinions.

My current (broken) board is a P5W DH Deluxe. Are the above superior to my current board, or not?

I like to play games!

Thanks,
Tom.

Answer:Which one of these LGA775 boards would you go with?

No it is not superior. Its the P35 chipset compared to P5Q P43 chipset I believe.

You don't need the WiFi Im assuming. Grab the P5Q Pro. Also what CPU you using ?

Asus is top notch company, from their P2B in 1998 to their P7 boards.

Are you overclocking? Because these boards even your old P5W are a safe heaven for OCing your rig. Also remember to enable Transaction Booster in BIOS ,, speeds up the RAM latency. Can you link us to the ebay add or something. thx, gl

Question: dimm memory boards

I am running win XP with two users and needed to upgrade the memory from 64mg to 256mg. I purchased a 256 and placed it into the slot next to the 64 but the computer only showed 192mg. I took the 256 back as faulty and the new one did the same. I then tried 2x 128mg chips together but the computer gave a memory of only 128mg. Also when I put just 1x 128 + 1x 64 it made only 94mg. What can I do to get the full 256mg?

Answer:dimm memory boards

Looks to me like you have onboard shared video of 64mb. which is why your memory shows as 64mb short.

Am looking ahead for the next build and saw this ASUS P8Z77-V-PRO Thunderbolt Motherboard and did some reading on what this Thunderbolt tech was all about. I know it is speed but does this mean I have to use compatible devices like monitor printer etc etc cos if that is the case then it would cost a fortune in peripherals.

So could someone one please tell me in real simple language what the Thunderbolt is all about and if there would be any advantage over having a non Thunderbolt board. Am not a great gamer or anything just want to build something with a few more features and grunt than the current Ivy build and would an i7 be a better choice over an i5 (K) for the new board.

Have an Asus P8Z77-V that I am trying to download drivers for and IE keeps coming up to say it is blocking the site - official Asus one.

The one that did download before this started happening opens out into a myriad of different references none of which I can make is the driver.

Surely it cannot be this difficult -after a week of complete frustration of getting this new build up and running and it still is not right this is the last straw?

When I go to a message board, one or two in particular, the size of the board runs way off my monitor.

My question is, could it be the settings on MY computer or new wide LCD Dell screen monitor that isn't sized right?

The resolution of the monitor is 1366*768. My system is Windows XP.

If you have more questions for me for clarity, let me know. Taks.

Hey there, I am hoping that someone can help me or clue me into my difficulty. When I go to the teachers.net chatboard web site, I am unable to post messages. I used to go there before when I had Sympatico dial up. When I moved I switched to Rogers cable, and now I am unable to post messages on the chatboard. When I try to post messages, I get the following error:

Your domain has been restricted from posting to this chatboard
User ID then given ( I will submit if need be but I didn't include my number)
HOST
Web Watcher and the date and time
System Security.
I have never abused my priveleges at this web site and am wondering if there is any reason I am unable to post messages.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Answer:Security on chat boards

The key is in the line, "Your domain has been restricted from posting to this chatboard."

That means anybody trying to post from your domain...your ISP...has been banned. Apparently, somebody using the same ISP as you has done things unacceptable to whomever owns that board.

The only thing you can do is email the owner of the board (try [email protected] if they don't provide a "Contact Us" link) and explain your situation and ask if there is any way you can be allowed to post to their board again.

Answer:switching mother boards..

ratmanfrommars, sometimes you can get away with it, but it is probable that you will get a whole load of errors due to the motherboard trying to run with the wrong drivers. It is much safer to assume that you will have to reformat and reinstall.

Hi, my name is Sandy and I don't know where else to ask about this. My dad who is 87 yrs. old now, loves his Web TV...aka MSNTV now. His email addy is still webtv.net.

He likes the fact that he can use the tv screen for a monitor and can see it better. One of his favorite sites is an EZBoard site that his grandaughter owns. He finds that he can get to the site and can see the titles of the topics. He even can post a new topic but he is unable to open any existing posts. He is so frustrated. I've tried to teach him my laptop but he is not having much luck with that.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me to help him?

I have recently acquired a Phoenix board with Award bios and none of my components work with the board. When I called the Award team, I was informed that the reason is because the components are too new for the board and the IRQ's are not being assigned correctly. I was then told that the only way I could fix this problem was to pay $60 for the bios update. This board was designed for an AMD XP 1500+. Now this seems to me that a board that new should be able to recognize newer components. Also, is that pretty standard that you have to pay for a bios upgrade or do most companies fairly let you upgrade for free for buying their product? Is this my only option?

Answer:phoenix boards and bios

Most give it away off the site for free to anybody. (You could buy another motherboard for $60!!!)

Answer:save a pro-boards website....

I don't believe so because, if it's a free one you don't have access to the message database, which is what you actually need to transfer. Some of these message boards do have the facility within their Administration panel to change the name and therefore the URL. I actually have my own domain name and its URL is set up to redirect to my message boards.

Lol . No, that is impossible. If you want to have 2 processors in the motherboard, get a dual socket board.
You cant configure or add some chips to the motherboard to add processors. It needs a whole new different architecture .

Relatively long article. Comparing ASUS, Gigabyte, DFI, and MSI.

Basically it's in this order from best to worst (mainly based on OC'ability along with overall performance although of course one board will have features another doesnt):

DFI
MSI
Gigayte
ASUS

heh, always have said ASUS sucks They do get some benches though. If you look through all the benches every board is at the top atleast once. So they all provide excellent performance in atleast one area, but ASUS just couldn't hang when it came to overclocking. But yeah appearantly ASUS sucks at AMD but excell in Intel based boards..who knows. But still some interesting facts.

Yes, they seem to be good.

Although a lot of mobo manufacturers have released one, or two (or more) bad quality motherboards that have some kinda flaw (like the Asus A8N-SLI having a shoddy chipset fan).

I would ask about a specific model of mobo, and go and find some reviews on it.

These computers are under a year old and we were able to purchase 3 year extended warranties after the initial purchase. But clearly there is a problem and I was hoping there might be a BIOS fix but to no avail. Lenovo has sent out techs and motherboards have been replaced as mentioned. Thank you Lenovo. A couple of other issues, these computers also drop external audio (headphones) and sound comes out of main speaker. Only a restart will fix the issue. I have also tracked down falty NIC cards on these computers. While trouble shooting latency problem on the same subnet as the E93z computers two of the E93z were the culprits. They seemed to create a broadcast storms on the subnet. I did scans for the usual malware and viruses and found nothing. Using EtherApe on a linux box to troubleshoot pointed me to the E93z that were the problem. After they were found and disconnected (CAT5) the problem went away. Wifi is OK and not causing trouble from the two trouble makers.  I hope Lenovo will research and fix the problems with this model. -Rick

If you have a DFI MB and want to use MBM5 and alot of great stuff like
ATI & Nvidia GPU temp readings and theres even a screenshot setup that displays system info and lots of great info. Well worth the read

Answer:MBM5 & DFI Mother Boards

Yea, that is a very valuable link. I found it a few weeks ago actualy. Won't work with Nvidia graphic cards I think

This is probably a stupid question, but does there have to be a web site in order to run a bulletin board, or is it possible to run a "stand alone" bulletin board? TIA

I know there are a lot of "my computer won't start" threads on here, but I'm at my wits end on two separate boards both running Intel socket 775 E8400 CPUs.

One will start up intermittently (Gigabyte EP43UDL); the other will not turn on at all (Intel legacy board).

I've already done the following:

* Changing out DDR2 to tested working sticks.
* Using an alternate tested power supply.
* Disconnecting the HDD.
* Checking the CPU fan and case fans.

My questions are:

* Would a CPU failure cause these issues?
* Are there any known issues with the E8400 CPU failing and causing problems like these or is it just coincidence?

I'm thinking about ordering a used E6400 to run tests with; however I don't want to waste the money if it is unlikely to solve the issue.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:No startup - two E8400 CPU boards

Hi gman

My best guess at present is that its a BIOS issue and flash the BIOS to latest known may solve the issue. BUT BIOS flashes are prone to issues, so flasher beware.

Check the latest BIOS version for said mobos and see if they cover the issues you are having and the CPUS as some have updates for CPU.

hi

ive currently got an SIS chipset MS-7005 mobo.

i wanna get a new one cos its crap, plus ppl tell me it isnt good with my graphics card (GF6600GT)

ive found out its a socket 478. Its a celeron 2.6GHz.

I know its not the best processor, but its what i got, so plz no posts of getting a new processor.

ive been on some other sites where some tell me about the what processors it can take.

some say
Supports Intel® Pentium 4 Northwood/Prescott (Socket 478) processors.

does this mean no celeron, cos others say
Socket 478 for Intel® P4 processors (Willimate 478 and Northwood 478 / Celeron 478) with 400/533 MHz

it seems that all the ones that mention celeron are all Micro-ATX, and i really dont want one of these.

any help on the subject would be hot

thx

Answer:What mother boards can run with Celerons?

If you're unsure go to the motherboard manufacturer website, if it still doesn't say it supports cellery then it most likely doesnt

are motherboards and computer cases universal? I'm building a desktop and i was wondering if all motherboards would fit in any case. for example could i put this motherboard(http://www.compuvest.us/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductID=353944&CategoryCode=MB) into this tower(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811103011)?

Answer:Mother boards and cases

You will need a tower that says "Full Tower"

Not "Mid Tower" Mid towers are usually for micro ATX boards, you might be able to fit a reg ATX mobo in a mid tower but its a tight squeeze, its nice to have extra play room in a case IMO

Hey All. The inside of my PC is filthy, (I keep the side panel off)I gave it a nice spray with compressed air but the card are still covered in a think layer of dust. How do you properly clean the circuit boards without damaging them? Guessing rubbing alcohol is ok, but can you just dab a paper towel in the alcohol and clean the stuff up, or do you need something else? Not touching anything until someone tells me how to do it =)

Answer:Cleaning circuit boards?

Okay usually you use a small makeup brush or something (with an antistatic wrist thing, since you generate static)

Methyl Hydrate is what you use to clean VERY dirty circuts board's, and is safe with lint free q-tips (Made out of other material's like foam)

Personally I use a 150 PSI air line drained of water, or Methyl Hydrate and Paper towel's and blow off and fibre's (with an 150 psi air line). This is not 100% recomended however.

I am replacing the motherboard in this compaq presario s7300cl . The board it came with, is a MS-6577 VER:4.1 and by mistake, I ordered a MS-6577 VER:2.1

My main question is, will this work with the current O.S. ?
If not, will I be able to use the recovery partition to reload all the software?
Also, what other differences are there between these different versions of motherboard?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

HI I built a computer with a ASROCK Mother board 775I65GV

They have an AGI slot instead of a AGP slot.

I had a radeon 9800 card which wasn't listed on their website as compatabile.

I Installed new chipset drivers before I fitted ASrock board and windows would not boot.

I did a repair install and the radeon 9800 was detected.

I got a nividia 6800 card which was recomended on their site and its not much better!

The problem I have is if I use cpu z or power strip Cpuz say no agp graphic interface And power strip says limited but can't tell agp speed etc.

If I try half life counter strike and quake 3 arena there see the 6800 card.

I also use linux 7.10 and it will not boot with either card, remove cards and linux boots but monitor switches off before login screen! most of time!

on board graphics don't show agp or graphic interface.

Answer:Asrock mother boards

The AGI slot is a bit of a stuffer. It i sone that Asrock, as far as I can tell, have made up for themselves. It is basically a x4/ x6 AGP slot on a board that normally wouldnt have one, mainly the i865GV and i845GV series. IT functions MOSTLY as an AGP slot, but only eith certain cards. This means that an AGP card may or may not be recognised, depending on whether Asrock have decided it will be or not. Apparently the board has PCI-e, but this has been ripped out and replaced with an AGP that works through the PCI-e. This was to allow upgrading to the 865GV chipset but retaining the AGP card.
The short answer is that you will have to try and get a card known to run on this particular board. I found a list of supported cards you can access here

http://www.asrock.com/mb/vga.asp?Model=ConRoe865GV

I guess this is the one you looked at. Did you get the exact model of 6800? Different ones probably wont work, i guess
