Preferred Solution: Im New But i need Help sooo bad its making me sick

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Im New But i need Help sooo bad its making me sick

Some punctuation would be helpful in the future. Your next logical step is to remove the device in Device Manager and reboot the machine. Windows has it's own drivers for these things, so there is nothing to buy, etc. Frequently this solvees the immediate problem. What are you using for virus and spyware protection?

I'm incredibly sick of Outlook.

For one thing, when I bought Office, it was Outlook 2002, not 2003 like I thought. It's annoying, never works, and I'm sick of it. Is there anything just like Outlook, but not made by retarted Microsoft?

btw, I use all of the functions within Outlook, including Calendar, tasks, notes, mail, contacts, etc.

Morning Chaps,I use Thunderbird as my email client, and this all started as a trickle last November. It's not DOZENS each day, in all 7 mail boxes I have and I'm very tempted just to set up Yahoo accounts or something!!!! I'm being offered Penis enlargement (didn't have one last time I looked...),CNN,Magazine Subs,PayPal advice,Abbey Bank,Bank of Scotland, Halifax, NatWest; then there's the messages from **people** Sexy Lexy, Hot Lips, Man o' Man, the list goes on and ON!!! I've phoned my email provider (not IP)and they said there's nought they could do - just keep the spam filter up to date. That just isn't possible! I don't think I've had and 2 supposedly from the same sender. Does anyone know of a way, or bit of s/ware that will ONLY allow messages in from people ONLY in the address book?AngeTheHippyxx

Answer:SPAM n PHISHING Emails - I'm SOOO Sick of 'em

I fully agree. ISP's must get together to stop this abuse - cos that is what it is. I am sure they could trace offenders to source - as they did with the guy that hacked into the Pentagon. I hoe someone knows an easy way of only accepting whitelist people.

Before I go on, I should mention that I get sick in supermarkets from fluorescent tube lights and similar LED lighting, I start becoming nauseous, headaches evetually feeling very sick, just like being sea sick. I have just bought a P645-SG with an LED backlit screen, previously I've only used CCFL backlit TFT screens with on problem. Yesterday for example I used it for just 2 hours, it has made me very very sick and nauseous I had to take the day off (I work for myself). The only other LED type screen I've used in the past is an ASUS UX303LN which has a very glossy screen and didn't have the same effect on me. I don't know what to do since I love the P645 it's perfect for what I'm after, long battery life etc. but of course it's rendered unuseable by the screen. I have the 1080p screen and was thinking maybe downgrading to the 1366x768 screen might help. Maybe it's possible to downgrade to a CCFL type screen? Also since it didn't appear to occur with the UX303 I'm thinking perhaps it's the screen blur from the matte screen? Any help or pointers would be appreciated.

Answer:Screen is making me very sick

Ok I've tried f.lux which hasn't helped at all.I've narrowed the problem down to it being a pwm screen and also heavy on blue light, it is really quite nauseating. My last resort is to try something like an ocushield filter. Failing this I will have to return it, very disappointed.

Hi all. The mouse is very hesitant 90% of time, hard to highlite stuff, not moving across screen obediently as it should etc. Something is wrong.

I have swapped the mouses from PC to PC. It's to do with WIN7 - not the mouse itself.

On the old XP I'd whip out a Reg. tool like PC Tune Up or JV16 but you guys have virtually banned them from WIN 7.

So where do I start?

Answer:WiN 7 is making my mouse sick?

According to your System Specs you are using a Logitech mouse. Go to Logitech on the web & see if there is an update for your mouse, also as you seem to be using Win 7 x64 be sure to get the 64 bit drivers for your mouse if they are available.

Hello All, I just purchased a ThinkPad SL510. I immediately had issues with the screen hurting my eyes, causing intense discomfort and making me feel physically unwell. I previously used a T400 and did not have any issues, so this was quite a surprise.  I?ve also worked on an HP Pavilion without issue. When I look at the SL510 screen, it seems overly bright and I see a swimming field of little dots. Adjusting brightness downwards helps, as does reducing blue so colors are warmer, but I still have a disabling sense of visual interference. Playing with the screen angle also helps a little, but is not an effective solution. I?ve adjusted all the usual suspects ? Windows 7 color calibration wizard, brightness, contrast etc. I have not yet found settings for which my eyes don?t hurt. So? 1.  It was suggested that adjusting the color temperature might help. Does anyone know how to do this?  I can?t do it through Windows 7 or my graphic card settings.  2.  Is there some essential difference between the screen on the T400 and my SL510? Something that might explain why I can look at the T400 without a problem but not the SL510? 3.  What should I tell the shop/importer that sold me this machine? 4.  Has anyone else had this issue and found an effective solution?  Thanks in advance for your suggestions. Cheers, Jersie

Answer:My SL510 Display is Making Me Sick - Help!

hey Jersie, could you try uninstalling the graphic driver for your unit. let windows install its generic drivers.once that is done see if there is any difference.

I had TextAloud 2.321 installed on my system and everything was working correctly.

After scanning for virus’ ....my virus protection detected a few virus.’
After removing all virus’ everything is working correctly again except my TextAloud (text-to-speech) program.

I un-installed it, and then re-installed it. Then installed the (optional) premium voice.
All voices sound very distorted. Hard to understand.

This includes the Microsoft “Anna” voice, and the TextAloud "Premium" text-reader voice sounds the same. Like a deep horrible demon voice. .... and, No!!! ....my computer is not processed.
Please tell me how to completely remove the MS “Anna” voice totally from my PC, and if you can – how to download and replace it.
Please don't tell me - I have to re-install Windows.
I am hesitant to purchase other [speach-to-text] programs until I see my two voices are back to normal.
I use TextAloud on a daily basis. I also want to purchase Natural Reader.

I am running Vista Ultimate 64 bit OpSys on my desktop PC.

Please respond a.s.a.p.

this is my first custom pc, and i was expecting it to be the shit

no one on this site has helped me with OCing, but i was planning on asking again later

but as of latley, im really bent up on how slow this damn thing runs

i oced to 2.45 on 1.2v and the shit fails occt in like 5 mins for whatever reason....memory is 5-5-5-12 at 1050mhz i think

but regardless, stock, this thing runs slower than a computer my friend built 4 years ago, what the fuck is up with that (AMD's Athlon 64 3000, corsair 1gb, basically a cheap ass build)

and the worst part about it is i used vlite vista and stripped the hell out of it, yet youtube runs just as slow if not slower than the dell vostro 200 i have

im seriously starting to think vista is straight trash of the highest order and that i have to go back to xp

tell me, i am not going crazy, cause right now, i am pissed

Answer:Vista is a sick, sick joke

I'm pissed too, but I doubt you'd understand why.

No offense - HA! - but this just has "Troll Supreme" written all over it. You're overclocking, that's the first negative, then there's the other issues too like gutting it with vLite and expecting it to actually be "normal" - and you have no idea what that probably means with Vista either.

I can't really believe this is a serious attempt at asking for assistance, sorry.

Did you mount the heatsink right? Try reseating it, and re-apply thermal compound when you do (clean the old off with isopropyl alcohol and coffee filters [or any other non-lint thing you can clean it with]).

Ok, here goes, if I don't give all the information anyone needs to help me let me know and I'll do my best to give what is needed. If I am missing something really obvious please feel free to hit me round the head with a rolled up newspaper! Yeah I have followed the clean up guide thing. Any help anyone has would be mighty appreciated!

Yesterday I attempted to download a bitTorrent, the download finished so I restarted my computer. My pc went into the HP logo start up screen and then it just lost it, it was like it couldn't find something on the hard drive, it kept on restarting, never getting further than the blue HP screen. After consulting with my IT whizzkid lodger we decided to try a non destructive system recovery, this worked until it got to 51%, it then displayed the message "unable to find boot.ini" or something to that effect and stopped downloading, just froze, we attempted this 3 more times before giving up and doing a destructive system recovery, this appeared to work fine, apart from the fact, of course, that I had lost EVERYTHING on my computer, GRRRR doesn't even come close as you can imagine. As soon as my pc was turned back on it began to display messages such like:

Hi all,
I somehow screwed up my windows media player.
I decided to delete the folder after an uninstall, it showed that their was still a folder for WMP so I decided to delete that and the registry also.

I tryed to download an old version of Windows Media player (9) to replace the files I shouldn't have deleted, but says that it sees a newer version of WMP and won't install. I try to download WMP11 again and it says that theirs an application problem right at the end of the install process.

I tryed to manually remove everything that says WMP, so that I can start from scratch but some of the file that are on here are appenretly being used by another program. Nothing is running so I'm not sure why its saying that.

Is their a way I can completely get all of WMP off my computer so I can then start from scratch?

As I said above I did the uninstall, removed the reg and deleted most of the folders.

Thanks for the help. Yes I'm banging my head off the table

OKay, so I just got this HP computer in September...and already I have managed to fill it with problems.
They gave me Norton, but of course it only lasted like 60 days or something like that, I know I have been neglecting it but I didnt realize how bad of shape it was in until recently when I royally screwed it up. I was on msn and someone sent me a link saying "is this you?..<link>" ....not even thinking I clicked on the link, and after that I can no longer get into msn messenger, or my hotmail account...or any other email account for that matter! (it shows "page cannot be displayed)...I'm noticing more and more sites have been blocked by this virus or whatever this is, and so now this makes it even harder to fix my computer.
Just to get a membership on this site to get help, I had to make an email account...at "email account.com" since none of my other ones will work.

NOw as far as doing all the steps you suggest before posting for help, I did as much as I could. Some of the scanners wont even work on my computer since their sites have been blocked from my computer.

To make matters worse, I downloaded hijackthis, and unzipped it..and tried to run it from C drive......it wont even load up, or start running?
I'm not sure if this is because of the state of my computer, or from something I did wrong.

I hope this was clear, and I hope you can do something..ANYTHING to help me...any advice would be appreciated!

If the computer has become so bad that you cannot get in through SAFE mode, or run HiJackThis, the worst case scenario would be to do a Clean Install, and then approach the security of your machine in a Layered approach.

Question: SoOo AnNoYiNg

When I open windows media player and go to file->open the files in folder Shared Music are by default arranged by size instead of name. How do I switch it back so that the open dialog box show the files arranged by name by default. If I open Shared Music with windows explorer the files are arranged by name (how I would like them). This problem with the open dialog box default arrangement also occurs when opening from the same folder using real player and winamp, and another program that I use is also showing files arranged by size also so I?m guessing that I accidentally did something to turn this setting on.

Question: I'm Sooo Happy!

THANKYOU all so much! I can on-line bank again (lol)!!! (not that I'm too lazy to go downtown).
I finally got my machine tuned back into shape and I'm
ashamed to say, that in the end...after 18 days, and hours upon hours of trying all of your suggestions,
I reread every piece of info and realized I still had the expired Norton firewall on and immediately after removing it and starting up again...ping, ping, pong I'm up and away! Of course I have this 4inch x 4 inch Mcafee advisory in the right hand corner of my screen and I can't read anything in that corner. I guess thats the next thing I get to 'play' with.
I thought I'd also let you know that error number 80048820 is also associated with 80072ee7
(I found a ton on google with my same problems).
Thanks tons all. Don't really know how to chat in the forums or rooms yet but I'll do this new topic thing when I get caught up to my missed "computer-work". Thanks again, Judi

Hi Folks,

I have two questiones concerning Windows-7 Home Premium.
There are two user accounts, Mine as well as a single guest account. Iy seems as though I log into the computer as an administrator. However, as I try to delete a shortcut on the desktop, the system, I am told that I "need to provide administrator permission to do that.", and "you require permissions from Administrators to make changes to this file."
A second issue ( Happens to be Eudora, a mail client ) when I start it. I get a pesky message telling me that: "Eudora was unable to update your system registry. Your default mail program has not been changed."
Does a Home Premium O/S not allow me access to these issues?

Regards,

Paul

Answer:Sooo.... I'm an administrator??

Run as Administrator
That should fix the problem for the mail program.

As for the other issue, have you looked at user accounts in the control panel and verified that your account is in fact a administrator account?

Question: Sooo Slow

Hi, Thanks so much for your help. I ran all the programs (adaware, spybot, bitdefender, housecall, stinger, windows update...and I do use zone alarm. Normally i have zonealarm, microsoft antispyware, spyware doctor, and AVG. I also frequently update and run spybot and adaware. The logs have been showing up clean EXCEPT Bitdefender found some problems it couldn't clean, and then Housecall (after bitdefender) seemed to find and clean quite a bit.At this point I need to see if there's still something infecting the computer, or if there's another reason for it being slow.I will donate to your site and to others involved. Answer:Sooo Slow

Hello mlowry816,

Welcome to Bleeping Computer

There is no malware in your log. You do have a lot of things running in the background that are not necessary and can be started manually. If you would like, I'll put together a list of these things for you, and you can decide whether you want them to run automatically or not.

Thanks,

I really want to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit when it comes out. I am currently running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I know that my computer can support 64-bit so that is why I want to get that version of Windows 7.

Here is what I would like to know and I will explain it very carefully. I am a college student and I registered for that deal where US College students are able to purchase the upgrade version to Windows 7. This is where my question comes in...Can I order that $30 upgrade version of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and use it to get Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on my computer??? I understand that going from Vista 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit is not an upgrade. I know I would have to do a custom/clean install(or whatever you call it). But if I order this upgrade pack for $30 and get the 64-bit one...Will there be an option to "upgrade" by a clean install to get Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on my computer?

I really hope I was clear about my question. I want to get Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on my computer...This $30 college student deal is an amazing deal and I want to know if I can do this deal and be able to get Windows 7 64-bit on my computer. Thank you in advance for all your help.

Answer:I am sooo confused...Can someone PLEASE help me!?!

You will not be able to upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit. You will have to do a clean install.
I do not believe that the Upgrade version will include a regular installer package.

Question: IE is Sooo Slow

Hi I think I am infected with something.

everything to do with my email (Outlook) and browser (IE) is taking minutes to happen.
even posting this has taken half an hour.

This has started in the past hour or so after I recieved a spam chainletter email from my sister something to do with M&S Vouchers if I send email to many friends.

When I start IE I spot an application sysfader.exe running momentarily in task manager.
There is some information on the web which suggests that this is something to do with IE or maybe something to do with a winshow trojan.

a search of my system gives no result for sysfader.exe.

If I try to reply to a message in Outlook I get a window saying Outlook is starting Word as my email editor and this hangs.

any help appreciated

Question: RAM is sooo high!

A few months ago my RAM usage just started reaching 1gb at its lowest. Now it hits over 2.5gb sometimes and is seen at 1.5gb normally. Programs I used to be able to run now have problems frequently and have rendered my gaming laptop to a MSpaint and notepad oriented computer.

I haven't installed anything new and i began deleted a load of stuff from my computer, no luck. I've tried 3 separate computer optimizing tools and still not much worked. I've searched the internet but all i can find is other people with problems where RAM goes from normal to 100%. By the way i have 6gb of ram. I've attached a picture of my task manager that i just took.

Thank you for taking the time to look at this!

Answer:RAM is sooo high!

Ram is meant to be used....the more the better, however.....according to your screen print you are using just 29% of your physical memory at idle (based on CPU usage of 1%)......quit low really and right on par based on my 8gb ram that uses 18% at idle. Try looking at all users for hidden processes but 2.5gb of 6gb still leaves a lot of RAM available so it doesn't appear that RAM is your problem. How much does your video card(s) require, etc. If you are worried then run the windows ram testing (perhaps you have some bad memory):

Memory Diagnostics Tool

or install more ram. I never have issues with 8gb. Check on programs that you have in startup although your specs look like mine:

Hello, and thanks again to all who recently helped me choose a new laptop; I appreciated your comments. Now for my newest problem: although the laptop is running Windows 7, I'm wanting to do a fresh install of XP Pro using a new OEM disc I recently purchased but am unable to do so. Sadly, I assumed (I know, I know) that I would simply be able to load the XP disc, enter the BIOS and set the boot preference to CD/DVD, then off I'd go. However, I've discovered that since Windows 7 is 'superior' to XP I'm unable to boot from CD with the XP disc. After a couple hours of Googling, and some time checking this site, I've a few ideas to try, but I was hoping that one of you much more knowledgeable posters would have a simpler-swifter-easier method than those about which I've read, and be willing to share it with me. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to reply. Again.

Answer:And I Thought It Would Be Sooo Easy . . .

I guess I would have to wonder why you would want to downgrade to a 9 year old operating system that lacks the security features of Windows 7 (among other things)?

At any rate, you are going to have to use a 3rd party partitioner (like gparted) to reformat the hard drive, and then install the operating system. Then you will have to go to the manufacturers website and download the hardware drivers for your particular laptop. The problem is that there is no guarantee that the hardware will work with XP, or that the appropriate device drivers that will run in XP. I'm assuming that you already checked it out and are sure that your hardware will work with XP?

Okay I have a Compaq that I only paid 595.00 for and it's  a year and a half old. Since I didn't give all that much for it I don't want to sink alot in it getting it repaired. On Thursday night I tried to download music from WalMart.com. It prompted me to download a newer version of Media Player. I did and then my computer starting shutting down on it's own in the middle of stuff. I tried running spybot and adaware and it didn't find anything. I tried to run Norton AntiVirus but the computer wouldn't stay on long enough to let it run. I did system restore and now I can't reinstall my Norton Antivirus..it says there is files missing. I also can't download updates from Microsoft because I keep getting error message and my internet won't work right. Alot of times I have to go to a webpage 3-4 times before the page comes up. The rest of the time I get a message that says page not found. What is going on?? I have Windows XP by the way. The Microsoft site did let me run the Malicious software tool but it didn't find anything wrong either.THanksAmanda

All I HAVE NO LOGS AS REQUESTED BUT I ONLY BECAUSE IT IS NOT POSSIBLE, PLEASE, PLEASE READ ON.

I have come across by far the worst virus i have experienced so far.

I have not included any logs to help anyone assist for the simple reason that I am not able to do anything. I am currently reporting from another computer.

I get all the usual fake antivirus messages, this time either called "windows safe mode" or XP anti virus. I tried a system restore. At first I was able to run Malware bytes, so I ensured I had the latest version and ran it. It found a few viruses and so I cleaned and restarted..................nothing had changed though, at least, nothing for the better.

I then tried a system restore, again, to no avail. I tried a system restore to another checkpoint, no good.

I then tried loading up in safe mode. To my horror, it was still very much alive in safe mode and I was unable to open up any programs.

I then tried to load up normally and connect to the internet to try and find a cure............... It came up as a black screen with safe mode in all corners even though I have not loaded up in safe mode. The start button never loaded up, nothing. Even pressing cntrl alt delete only brings an error message.

I tried once again to load up in safe mode and this time even the start button ect didn't load up in there!! I seem unable to do anything except to log onto a different computer and ask for help!!

Does anyone have any idea what I can do or is th... Read more

I like the interface - haven't really probed deeply yet buuuutttt....I already find myself rebooting as much (or in fact) more often than I did with XP. I recently picked up the new HP 6600 - which comes loaded with the Home Premium version of Vista. I find that often after an hour or two on the computer - Explorer 7 will just stop responding to commands (ie opening a link, or opening a new tab or window), other OS operations also suffer, can't open an explore window - can't bring up task manager. Sometimes closing a window will be a temporary fix...but that too stops working. Then I have to reboot. XP would do this all the time...most irritating thing in the world.

Anyone else having a similar issue....candidate fix??

Today, I purchased a wireless router for my parents house. I hooked up everything properly (I know this because I am currently using wireless internet through my laptop and iPod touch), but now I CANNOT get online through the desktop that my parents have always used.

In the past, they utilized a USB connection from the back of the modem to the back of their computer for internet. Now, I have an ethernet cable hooked from the back of the new router to the back of the computer.

They are using Windows XP, and Internet Explorer 7. I have a feeling that I will need to go into the network and internet settings window to change settings (IP addresses?) but I have no idea what to change or what to change it to.

I appreciate your time in reading this thread, and hope to hear from you all soon! Thanks so much!

Answer:Solved: Sooo Frustrating!!! Please Take a Look!!

open command prompt and type
ipconfig/all

right click on the window and say select all and copy and paste in this window...

Hi, I have an hp notebook model #G60-126CA. It has always run hot ever since I bought it, I never knew how hot until I recently installed a core temperature program. To my surprise, when my laptop is on a flat surface (including my lap), it easily sores between 80-90 degrees if I'm not paying attention.  I have actually seen it get to 100 before shutting down. I keep it clean, unobstructed, and the fan is running almost all the time when the laptop is in use.  This is insane that I can't even put a laptop on my lap to use it. I've heard a lot of issues and recalls with certain models but not sure if mine is affected. Needless to say that this HP website doesn't make it the easiest to find recall info. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

Answer:Laptop running sooo hot!!!!

you need to keep the laptop on a book or stand so it does not run hot.  my laptop does that too.  I had the cooling fans that worked and i have a stand i put my laptop on and if i don't the screen jumps.  you have to keep the laptop so the bottom of it keeps cool.  someone suggested a fan.  let me know if this helps.  you can not keep the laptop flat or it will run hot.  do you leave it plugged in while using it and do you turn it off and unplug it when you don't use it?

my personnal email is [text removed for privacy]  you can email me there.  this asking questions does not really help either.

I was having a problem with my "SAMSUNG 18X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe and Software Black IDE Model SH-S182M/BEBM - OEM."

It worked for a couple months then seemed to be burning at like 1x.

I ordered a new "SAMSUNG 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black PATA Model SH-S202G - OEM" and installed it today. It went fast for the first 35% and now its going slow again. maybe 4x at most, probably less.

Is this a driver problem or what?

Answer:DVD Burn sooo slow.

How much data are you burning to disk? And how long is it actually taking?

So my story is very simple, my computer is running super super slow. I've been
doing a lot of downloading from the net , so i tried deleting the files that I
downloaded. Then disk clean-up and I even removed old programs from my
computer. Still my computer so going super slow so I then did a virus scan with my
Mcaffe anti-virus. Still no luck, then I defragmented my computer and downloaded
a free anti-virus program called AVG. Still no luck, so at last I came across a website
that said that there are some sharp people over at techguys.org. Please help i've
attached all the info as required in the attachments. (hijackthis, dds, attach, ark text files).

My Acer Notebook Aspire 5100-3949 wireless internet is so slow.  A member here told me about ccleaner and I tried it.  It is not done by what I see I cleaned and analyzed and it still doesn't say it's done.  As I type it hesitates and it's hard to get my message out without waiting and alot of frustration.  I live right off I-95 on the east coast so I should get a better signal.  It says five bars and I have AT&T wireless internet.  Someone said to get more RAM.  How much is it to get more RAM?  I don't have a toolbar on the top, and I have Yahoo not Google, could that be it?  I get on the internet through my Yahoo Messenger and sometimes the IE Shortcut.  Vista must have alot of issues I see it on the commercials and I've had some issues I thought I had fixed but I guess not because I am asking for some insight now.  Thanks.

Answer:Computer is sooo slow and...

Are you saying CCleaner did not complete it's scan?  Per http://www.bizrate.com/laptopcomputers/acer-aspire-5100-3949-2.0-ghz-amd-turion-64-laptop--pid653137864/, you have 1GB of RAM.  Yes, experienced Vista users usually recommend 2GB for Vista.  I've been using my Compaq Presario notebook PC with Vista Home Premium since July 2007, with 1GB of memory and find it runs OK for web surfing, email, and MS Office applications open simultaneously. But, one thing you can do to improve performance with your current amount of memory is to review what software Acer installed that may be running in the background and consuming system resources.  All the manufacturers install a lot of extra software on new systems that most users don't need and that can degrade performance. But, again, no doubt about it, adding RAM would make a difference.  2GB of Kingston would cost $44.  See KAC-MEME/1G In addition to CCleaner, you might use PC Decrapifier to help get rid of some unnecessary Acer stuff.  What protection programs (virus, spyware, firewall) are you using?

Over the last few months my desktop computer's gotten much much slower. I'm not sure what's the cause but it hasn't always been like this. I notice with pictures in particular I really feel it. I recently uploaded some pictures to my laptop, which isn't as strong, and there was such a difference in speed!

I have no viruses or any of that, have made such of that. Can anyone advise as to potential issues?

FYI I'm running XP on a P4 2.66 GHz with 2 GB RAM.

Oh and I don't think its anything to do w/ start-up programs. I've run CCleaner a number of times and disabled most of the stuff.
Thanks
Dan

All of the spam I get in my inbox is crappy advertising (porn, drugs, bank loans, etc, etc)
What do I (and probably everyone else) do, we erase them.
We install popup blockers and use different browers to stop spam. We even complain to our ISP's telling them they should do more on their end to stop spam from reaching our Inboxes. There's even laws in place or being created to handle the spam problem..

With all this stuff being used to stop spam, why are we getting more and more of it?
My guess is that Spamming (Advertising) works. There are people who respond to these things and I believe they actually buy the products advertised.
Look at it this way.. Spammers don't do this kinda work for free. They get paid buy companies to do the dirty work. If those compaines are not getting customers from the spam ads, I dought they will continue to pay a spammer to do this kinda thing.

I really think there are millions of people out there with dreams of (growning back that hair, enlarging their penis (hmmm maybe i should....nah ) or getting a bank loan without any or bad credit.

That's my 2 cents about spam..
What do you think.

Answer:If Spam is sooo hated, why are we getting more and more of it?

I run a mail server, after I get so much spam from a ISP, I just firewall them. So far I have firewalled CES and some ISP in india. Other than thoes 2, spamassassin (with plugins & fprot) seems to take care of the rest. I get maybe 1 spam mail a week.

I've been using Google Chrome for the last while and have generally been happy with it, unfortunately it does not support speech recognition for dictation so i'm looking to use IE8 again.
problem is using IE8 is painful because whenever i right-click on something and select "open in new tab", IE8 is unresponsive for two-three seconds until it opens that tab, meaning if you need to open a bunch of tabs it is very very painful.
how can I fix that?

Answer:Why does IE8 take sooo loong to open a new tab?

IE8 is laggy compared to Opera and Chrome, simple fact.

Some users notice it, others don't.

Opera has voice commands and an integrated eMail client by the way

Any suggestions as to what I can do to speed this up. It takes around 2 seconds before the letters appears after I type them.

Answer:Why is has Vista Become SOOO Slow

You have the minimum memory requirement for Vista Home premium. If you are running a lot of memory intensive programs and windows aero graphics this may be your problem. Maybe you should think about getting some more memory. 32 bit can have up to 4gb of memory.

Hi All,
I've been trying to access my Yahoo.uk email from Japan as usual but from last night (23rd) it's too slow and "Times out" . Last night I thought it was my computer but this morning I've used a few computers at work and all the same. I even thought maybe my email account had gone loopy due to a sudden rash of junk mail (can this happen?) so I thought I'd try opening a new account and see if I could connect to that but the new account sign up service also timed out The pictures on the home page also aren't downloading and news stories time out when clicked on
What gives? Is anybody else having problems or is it just me here in Nipon?
Probably those North Koreans doing something tricky

Answer:Yahoo UK sooo slow!!

Well, I got my answer.
For any one interested Yahoo have posted an apology for a power outage on the UK homepage which caused the loss of service.

Hello,  I am using internet explorer 8 and my problem is my laptop is sooo slow. I have tried everything I know to do. I have Mcafee virus protection, have ran scans, it says I have no virus's, but when I am browsing the net, I keep getting,,paused, I guess you'd call it? It is like its loading something when all I'm doing is reading a web page. It continues doing this all the while I am on the net, stops and loads, and loads..I have to keep hitting any key,,hit enter several time..anything to start my page again. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Answer:my laptop is sooo slow.

Slowness, freezing and performance issues as you describe are not uncommon, especially with older computers. If you're not finding any malware, please refer to this guide: Slow Computer/Browser? Check here first; it may not be malware.

I have been on a few sites before with problems and did everything they said but my system is still not working right.

I have also gone through their prelimenary remove malware post and did all in that.

For some reason the remove programs in add/remove programs has dissapeared AND for some reason all these folders keep popping up everywhere even when I havent put them there.

I created a folder in my name a while ago and now it is full of other folders. Examples of some are:
ACPI Fixed Feature button, ACPI Sleep Button
CD Rom Drive, Communications Port, Disk Drive, HID keyboard Device, HID complaint consumer control device #1, HID compliant mouse, Advanced Controllable Interrupt Controller, Direct Memory Access controller ECP Printer Port and soooo many more. Please help!!!!

Many thanks

Maz

Answer:oh dear sooo many problems

Hi mazza,
Welcome to Major Geeks!

It sounds like it could be malware which is causing this and it's also possible that something got damaged when you followed instructions and it may need repairing. For us to give you any help in figuring out which it is, we need for you to go through the READ & RUN ME FIRST and attach the logs so we can look at them. HijackThis just isn't adequate.

Thanks.

I have a Desktop PC and a laptop PC both running XP Pro and connected up with a Network cable. When I had Windows 2000 when I clicked on a folder in my Network connections it opened straight away. Now when I open a folder in XP Network connections it lags for about 30 seconds to a minute and then opens. Is there a reason for this?

Answer:XP Network *sooo* slow!

Haven't found one but would look to know what it is that causes is! Don't know it there is some 'discovery' service running in the background that could cause this.

O.K, I?ve had my Dell Dimension 5150 for well over 18 months now and I?ve finally had enough of the jet engine noise that it creates as soon as you even think about making the processor do some work!

The system board is a HJ054 800/1066MHZ

I looked at the specs for the board and it doesn?t say anything about it supporting temperature monitoring.

So if I bought a fan that changes it?s speed according to the system temp, am I right in thinking it would run at 100% as there is nothing it tell it otherwise?

I ordered a antec smart cool 120mm case fan only to find that the 3 and 4 pin connectors that came with it do not fit to any connection on my system board or PSU.

I also still have the stock 775 heat sink which I have re -seated many times thinking that it might sort out the problem if the system was causing all this noise due to over heating but as I mentioned earlier, I have no way of finding out what temp my system runs at.

I?ve had a look at some online but most of the good ones say that I?ll need 20cm clearance to install them. I?m pretty sure that I haven?t got that sort of room in my case.

Where do I measure it from?

The top of the system board or the top of the CPU?

Basically I need some assistance in finding a case fan and CPU heat sink that my system board supports and ultimately stop this wailing beast so that I can hear myself think.

All feedback appreciated.

Many thanks,

Answer:My Dell is sooo loud, help

first off, you could start by giving us some specs of your comp

secdondly, what is your budget and etc

and finally, by talking about clearance, i think it means your mobo to your side panel of the case

I have an older Dell Dimension 4600 running Windows XP. I have 1536MB of RAM. I've cleaned it up pretty well and it is running quite smoothly and quick enough for the little use I need it for. However, I would like to find out why it takes forever to close and shut down and correct that nuisance. Thanks in advance.

So im having problems with my instant messengers. Whenever i try sending a message, the conversation window freezes for about 3 seconds while it's sending the message and then returns to normal. Obviously this is frustrating when im trying to send messages fast. The obvious problem that i thought was spyware. After removing some progams using ad-aware, i still encountered the same problem. I tried turning off my firewall and still nothing. I also tried another anti-spyware program, microsoft windows defender and it didn't detect anymore spyware. I've tried reinstalling the IM programs as well and still no effect. My system is windows XP SP2, Intel pentium 4, 1 gig ram. I have the latest versions of AIM (1.0.4) and MSN (7.5). Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

basically I opened the case, heard a bang upstairs and went to see what the kids were up to. (flooded the bathroom.. Again) by the time i came back down my daughter was downstairs. She says she hasnt touched it. But now when I try to boot it up all I get is the fans powering up (really loudly) no beep. and the diagnostic lights are all on green except the "b" (which is amber) but the dell website doesnt give any info on this. Any idea's at all would be great as im dreading telling my hubby ive killed his mates pc.
I was just about to install win xp. hard drive had shown up in bios
specs as far as I can remember

Dell optiplex gx280 intell p4
No os (hadnt installed it)

Sorry if this is a bit garbled

ok so I've had this problem for a few weeks now. I've run Spybot S&D, superantispyware, and AVG, but those only cure the problem for a few hours to a few minutes.... its not catching all of something which keeps reinstalling itself..

i only get single pop ups at a time for the most part but every time i do it takes like 5 minutes for them to close out.... they turn my computer to sludge... its mostly adds for Stopzilla and cheap airfares...

Ok seems that all the computers in my house have been infected some how with some nasty thing. THis Log is from the childrens computer that constantly plays games or visits a bunch of HOmeschooling web sites. The pc is running exceptionally slow, and games are lagging. I have ran sdfix, combofix, superantispyware, panda scan, trendmicro housecall and AVG. I also disk cleanup, and defrag'd... still having problems. Most programs found some sort of adware, and i ran them through to completion. However trendmicro always stalled when it went to clean the infections. Below is the highjack log . The pc is gateway with xp home edtion windows, not sure model number, truthfully was built to suit and not factory bought.

Any advice or help would be very helpful!!!

i hope its okay to post this here, but my computer is sooo slow. wepages take forever to load, videos on youtube, forget it. it lags, freezes for a few seconds, and its frustrating.

what happened was my computer was acting up a little bit and i remembered my friend had something called tune up utilities on her computer. she showed me how to use it incase i wanted to put it on my computer. she said it helped her computer A LOT, it was faster. so i thought i would try it and downloaded a trial and started doing the things she told me, and things that the program said i should do, and it didnt work at all, it just made it worse. it was talking about disabling start up programs and programs i had no idea about, but the computer was just getting worse, so i did a system restore (think thats the name, go back in time on coputer) anyways, it was right before i downloaded tune up utilities, so yeah, now its slightly better than it was, but still slow and lagging at some points, taking a long time to load a web page. i dont know if maybe i got a bug or if its just from something i did thats making it like this. im not sure what logs to post here so i will let u tell me what to go from here.

Over the last few months my desktop computer's gotten much much slower. I'm not sure what's the cause but it hasn't always been like this. I notice with pictures in particular I really feel it. I recently uploaded some pictures to my laptop, which isnt as strong, and there was such a difference in speed!

I have no viruses or any of that, have made such of that. Can anyone advise as to potential issues?

FYI I'm running XP on a P4 2.66 GHz with 2 GB RAM.

Oh and I dont think its anythign to do w/ startup programs. I've run CCleaner a number of times and disabled most of the stuff.

Thanks
Dan

I've tried it on two computers, both lacking in some areas...generalized, they are:

AMD Athalon 1700+ (~1.1GHz)
512MB DDR 2700
Windows XP Pro
Radeon 9500 Pro (128MB DDR)
-and-
(keep in mind, this one is a laptop)->
Intel P4 2.0GHz
256MB DDR 3200
Windows XP Pro
Radeon Mobility 7000

Anyhow, both run *extremely* slow--it takes several minutes to load the application, then to try and use it is just ridicleous, you click something, it takes ~15seconds to respond (each time you do anything).

I don't know how anything really compares, but I've got Adobe PS8 running fine (takes ~15 sec to load, then instant otherwise), Doom 3 runs with little lag.

I tried closing everything I possibly could before using 3DSM5, but it never helped.

Any suggestions?
thanks

Answer:3DSM5 - Sooo slow, anyway to improve this?

Probably the systems are clogged with spyware and adware. Have you looked in the task manager to see what processes Windows is running? Checked for any viruses? If there are any suspicous programs that seem to be using up alot of Mem Usage, let me know or search for some more info on them.on Google or something.

Also, try a defrag. Located in, Start \ Accessories \ System Tools \ Disk Defragmenter. And run a disk cleanup, located in the same place.

There is a software named System Mechanic which will sort your system out. Goto http:\\www.iolo.com

Hope this helps ...

Answer:I'm trying to clean up my computer, runs SOOO slow

First, eliminate all the spyware. Spybot, adaware, blah blah see sticky http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=766094

Second. remove unneeded startup programs by launching "msconfig" from the run menu. Tab to startup, and turn off unneded programs. If unsure what is needed, post a screenshot.
