How do I know if my processor is bad?

Question: How do I know if my processor is bad?

I'm not having any trouble, so this is just a general question. I was just wondering what the symptoms are if you have a bad processor. Would it beep a certain way? Would anything even come up on the screen?Would the symptoms be the same for an uncompatible processor?Thanks,Hoop2077

Preferred Solution: How do I know if my processor is bad?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So, i got this message after i upgraded my Asus Notebook to Windows 10 Home from 8.1. What got me to check this was having my laptop Hard Shutdown when the power was at 100% and the laptop had been on the charger all day, plus the CPU temperature was normal.

The exact Error that's provided via Event Viewer: Collaborative processor power controls on processor 5 in group 0 are disabled due to a firmware problem. Check with the computer manufacturer for updated firmware. This message is provided for each of my 8 Processor Cores

Unfortunately, there are no new Firmware Updates for my laptop model from Asus. Last one was pushed in October 2014. Very odd seeing as i got this new in December 2014.

I want to know if this is something serious, or if i should just ignore it. An error having to due with Kernel Level Power Controls seems serious to me.

I recently upgraded to a HP,Media Center editon pc, Windows XP, AMD Athlon 64 3800+2.4 GHz Processor.

When trying to install Photoshop Album 1.0, I receive this message, "This operating system is not supported by Adobe Photoshop Album. We support Windows 98SE, ME, 2000 , XP Intel Pentium III or 4 processor".

Could my problem with installation be the Athlon processor? When purchasing this computer, our salesman convinced us that the Athlon was just as good as the Pentinum Processor. Any thoughts on this? My computer is less than a week old and having serious thoughts about returning it. I have had problems with other installations. Am I to expect more problems with software and the Athlon processor. Any helpful suggestions will be appreciated. I am getting desperate for advice about the processor.

Answer:Athlon Processor versus Pentinum Processor in Windows XP

What the message is telling you is that Windows Media Center Edition 2005 is not one of the operating systems that Adobe Photoshop Album 1.0 supports. It has nothing to do with whether an Intel processor or an AMD processor is installed. I checked the system requirements for the newer version 2.0, and it also is not supported by Windows MCE 2005.

By the way, Adobe Photoshop Album 1.0 has a 13.5 MB patch for it and will upgrade it to version 1.0.1. You can get it from here.

Hi, So I spilled water all over my Ideapad p500 and fried the processor.  I'm stuck overseas in South Korea until March.  I'd like to just get someone to change the processor.  It has an i7 3520M processor.  What i7 3rd gen processors are compatible with the p500? I need a list because I may be limited in what I can buy here.  Mobile processors aren't super common.  Is it possible to upgrade the processor since I'm having to get it replaced anyhow?   I don't know much about processors. I'll be having someone replace it for me. There are some other motherboard pieces that were fried as well, but the guy was able to pull some of those off another motherboard.   I'll provide the specs available to me on this laptop in case it's helpful.  I bought it from Best Buy in December.  Lenovo IdeaPad 15.6" Laptop - 8GB Memory - 1TB Hard Drive4-cell lithium batteryAC adapter, power cordSoftware: PowerDVD Metro; Power2Go and moreOwner's manualPRODUCT FEATURES3rd Gen Intel® Core? i7-3520M processorFeatures a 4MB L3 cache and 2.9GHz processor speed with Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz.Intel® Core? i7 processorFeatures 8-way processing for ultimate smart performance. So, blew out my MB and processor a few weeks ago and bought an AMD Athlon XP 2200+ to replace my old 1500+ as well as a gigabyte 7nf-rz motherboard.

I installed them all and after some glitches everything is ... sort of okay ... anyway, the computer still registers my processor as the 1500+, i installed AMDcpuinfo tool and it reads the 1500 and so does a motherboard monitor program I installed.

I'm positive they sent me a different chip, it looked just like it should have and I mean it's a completely different color than the 1500+ (which i still have sitting around) so I have no idea how this is possible as I replaced the motherboard too.

Any ideas? The computer keeps freezing intermittently or when playing games and I'm not sure what to do about that either... I think maybe it's overheating but the temperature is always between 40 and 50c even when playing games. Ugh. Bad computer.

I've run every monitoring program I can find, it SAYS the old CPU is in there!! THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE.

i really hate computers now. wow. do i accuse the online store (www.shopampm.com) of cheating me and painting the old 1500+ a different color?

i wish i could stop it from randomly freezing completely. that's all i ask. games are unplayable while it freezes every 10-30 minutes.

Can any body tell me the main diff between the core 2 duo processor and core 2 duo processor with centrino.

Thanks
_______

Answer:Diff between centrino processor and core 2 duo processor

In a word nothing, the centrino branding does not refer to any specific additions to the processor, it is simply a label that is attached to laptops which use intel branded processor, integrated graphics and wireless chips.

Centrino is more of a marketing tool that Intel use to boost sales of their graphics and wireless chips, so you can pretty much ignore it

Quad processors are darn expensive. You can have a hand in helping me build my new laptop.

Speed is a priority: when I use my computer for PLEASURE, I can deal with an occasional slowdown. When I use my computer for a WORK or a SCHOOL project and I experience a slowdown, I feel like breaking bodies or punching a hole in the wall.

I'm buying a new laptop. I'll be using it primarily for work and school. I'd say 80% of the time that I use the laptop it will be used for serious 9-5 business stuff, primarily work and school.

That's why when I customize my new laptop I'm going to customize it with 8 gigs of RAM and a quad core processor, to have as much speed as possible and as high a flow rate as possible. Is that a good build strategy?

My work/school laptop will:

>be used for heavy Internet duty

>be used heavily for programs like Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Flash

>i will not be using it for computer games but note: if i have to sell the laptop on Craigslist in a year or two I'd like this laptop to appeal to gamers so I can sell it quicker, faster

>i don't have a lot of disposable income. The quad processor costs a few hundred dollars more. Since I'll be using my computer for work and school, and since I might be making more money a year from now, If I have to (and with your advice) I'll pay the extra cost

How do I determine for sure if my processor in this laptop (IdeaPad Y530) is a 32-bit or a 64-bit processor?  I thought the processor was a 64-bit processor, but I am confused why Lenovo would have put Vista 32-bit on this laptop if it has a 64-bit processor in it.  The processor in this laptop is the Intel Pentium Dual CPU T3200 @ 2GHz.  If I ever decide to wipe the hard drive clean and install Vista again I was trying to decide whether to use the 32-bit or the 64-bit version.  I wanted to take advantage of any performance gain made possible by going to the 64-bit version.  There is a performance advantage with the 64-bit version isn't there?  Thank you.

The processor in your Y530 is capable of handling 32-bit and 64-bit instructions. You should be able to install a 64-bit OS without any problems. As for performance, it all depends on what the laptop is being used for.

If your just useing it for school and work and not playing a hole lot of game then i would go with a duo processor. It's all ready going to be fast enough with 8 gigs.Way pay more then you have to.

I need to order a new desktop for my office to replace a 3 year old machine that runs at 3.2 Ghz. The new machines that Dell offers only has this option:

Intel® Core™2 Extreme QX6700 (8MB L2 Cache,2.66GHz,1066 FSB)

I don't think there is a standard measuring stick that is used to compare all the processor speeds that I can find or understand. I work with CAD programs that use up a lot of resources and I typically get the fastest available and max the RAM. With all the latest software that I have to install, I need the new machines to run faster than the ones they replace.

Can anyone tell me how this 2.66GHz processor compares to my current machine? I don't have the exact specs for it, this is what it lists on the dell support site for my system - PROCESSOR, 80532K, 3.2GHZ, 1M, 533, M0.

Your laptop is probably only for dual core (Core i3 and i5) processors for 35W. Core i7 processors use 45W and more so Core i7 chips won't probably work. You cannot use 3rd or 4th gen processors on your laptop. The 4th generation use completely different socket (I think) and the 3rd one use the same socket, however it's not electronically compatible with the Sandy Bridge chipset. There is not much difference between Sandy and Ivy Bridge laptops. Haswell (4th gen) use more ultra low voltage processors so both previous generations are actually even more powerful with the mobile (M) CPU versions and there is no need for an upgrade. I have still an Ivy Bridge laptop (signature) and won't upgrade any time soon because there is nothing better to upgrade to.

Hello everyone,

I want to build a new system, and I was wondering just what the differences between a sever processor and a desktop processor are.

Would I see gaming performance decrease by using a Quad Server Core or a Quad Desktop Core?

I wanted to build a dual socket server core and have 8 physical cores.

Thoughts?

Answer:Server Processor Vs. Desktop Processor

I dont think any games are designed to take advantage of a dual socket setup. Windows Server OS's are designed to take advantage of dual socket setups. Some newer games are coming out which take advantage of single socket dual or quad core setups on desktops. A server based PC would not gain any performance for games IMO. You are better off investing the extra $ in a good video card.

Hi lor1cal. The i3 2350m or rPGA or 988B or G2 as its also known (Confusing aint it) wont fit in your motherboard. The socket for your motherboard is LGA1155, Look for cpu`s that work with your motherboard chipset HM65. Goto Lenovo support site, Type in your model no. & download the hardware maintenance manual this will list cpu`s compatible with your laptop under the section FPU. May I suggest going for a i5 2nd or 3rd gen if possible, You wont regret it... Hope that helps! Catt

Hi I just joined and I have a few questions. Are AMD processors any better than a Pentium? Is the switch from Pentium to AMD smooth? I was looking at getting a new computer and I was introduced to an AMD processor so I was a little intrugued. Please nothing too in-depth, I'm just starting out in the PC world. At the moment, i'm looking at a 3200+ AMD processor (got a quote and the guy didn't write down the full name of hardly any thing).

the full computer setup is this (the quote was written down as this):

NVidia 6800 GT 256MB video card
2048MB PC3200 DDR RAM
S939 3200+
S939 K8NS Ultra MB
240GB RAIDED SATA
16x Dual Layer DVD+RW
Windows XP
ATX case
500W power supply
17" LCD monitor

Is this good to run the newest games like Doom 3, Half-life 2, etc? Also, do you think i should get a better processor?

Answer:AMD Processor vs Intel Processor

damn skippy! thats almost as good as my computer! you might want to get a 3500+ but what you got should still be good enough to run anything.

I hope I haven't offended anyone by restarting my thread. I'm still trying to get my machine to start up. It always locks on the blue screen. I think it's not completing the POST but I'm not sure.I can't get it to boot from either cd-rom. I tried unplugging each drive and restarting, I disconnected each cable to the board, I even reseatred the chip. Nothing seems to work.I have tried several disks to reboot including winternals and the factory recovery disks. It seems that it freezes at the end of the POST I see the HD and Floppy and CD drives listed, then it freezes. If I disconnect the A drive (3 1/2) then boot it gives me an A drive error.I can't access safe mode or recovery.I can get into setup (BIOS) but no changes seem to help.I really need some Ideas to solve this.ThanksRusty

Answer:Bad Processor or what?

Get into bios and set it to the default or failsafe settings. Then set your hard drive as 1st boot priority. Then try to boot it.If that fails go back to bios & set your cdrom as 1st boot priority and try to boot with your OS disk in the slot.If that fails go back to bios & set your floppy as 1st boot priority and try to boot with a boot disk in the floppy drive.Let's see what happens then.

processor power isnt really utilised in games anyway, yes there is a big difference, the i7 and i5 are quad cores [dunno about i3] and also the cpu architecture, cache sizes etc combine to give a much better cpu than the dual core E serieswhether you will use this is dependant on what you use your computer fori do fair few video encodes so my i7 at 3.8GHz [x4 for quad core] is probably 4x as quick as the the the E7500 you list

Hello,
I do not know if this is hardware issue or software. But just before 5 days my ASUS notebook started to behave like this and now even this on which I write this message. On both I have Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 installed. Some have reported that SP1 is slowing their computers down. Now I am really puzzled. Because I do not believe that both have malfunctioned in 5 days and with only chat, msn, internet and videos stressing them. I have Norton IS 2012 and I haven't virused notebooks with something. On the other I have installed fresh new Win 7 Home Premium SP1, but there is same result in task manager as with this one. I really wouldn't be happy if both have malfunctioned processors. And I wonder how could they die so early? Maybe on Linux Ubuntu it wouldn't be the case? I do not know... But it worked fine on this PC until.. yesterday 01:00. So I attached photos and processes. Maybe you can help me? Maybe some Win 7 update just destroyed performance of notebooks?

I have a brand new amd athlon 3400 processor in my my new computer. The processor came with a retail heatsink and it said i need to use that one or the warrenty would void. So I put the processor on and put the heatsink on and everything went on right. I'm monitoring my computer and the cpu temp is at 63 C when its using 100% load. When it's not its has about 49 - 51 C temp. I ran Prime 95 for about 3 hours and the proccesor stayed at about 63 - 64 C with no errors. So the processor is stable, it just needs to lower the temp. How can i lower the temp. I was told to remove the heatsink and get a nice one and put arcitc thermal compound on it. I think its just the retail heatsink is so crappy. It even came with a pad insted of paste. What can I do?

Answer:Amd Processor is too hot - 63 C -- Help

If you used the oem heatsink it may have the thermal sticker that melts to the cpu
it should have seated by now so the only thing I can think of is your case
is not letting the hot air out
does the oem fan blow in toward the chip or out
if out reverse fan ,it may increase noise level ,but cooling will be better.
it would help to add an incoming fan and an out going fan
incoming in the bottom front out going top rear(below the PSU)
assuming you have a tower case
If you decide to remove the heatsink be careful the sticker really glues itself to cpu
last dumb ? did you remember to remove the protective flim from sticker
ingnore this ? if used thermal grease

Hey guys, I have what was once a decent gaming machine but now I'm just not seeing the greatest performance. I'm gonna get a new GPU but I'm just wondering what processor I should, mainly because I'm not too knowledgable about chipsets. I'm currently running an i7-860, it's a quad core @ 2.8Ghz. Preferably, I don't want to have to change my motherboard I'm happy to stay within the i5/i7 series.

Would this be a good upgrade if I want to be able to run games well?
Intel i5 2500k Sandybridge - People say it's pretty stable so I'd overclock it, but at 3.3Ghz not sure if I'd have to right away.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-Sandy...8NX2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1319807387&sr=8-1

Are these processors good value for money, because to me it sounds a little cheap?

Any opinions would appreciated, plus any suggestions for other better processors. Budget isn't too much of a problem, I can just save up.

Answer:Looking for a new processor

Your board doesn't support the Sandy Bridge processors because it's a different socket.

Question: AMD Processor ID

I scanned the first couple of pages given me by the forum's search engine, but all that I found didn't answer my question. I have an Athlon 64 939 3200+ unit which I bought with little research until after the fact. Now, when reading the posts on some of the forums, they keep referring to the Venice, Newcastle, San Diego, etc. versions of this CPU. I have yet to learn what significance there is to these, and the CPUID downloads didn't help either. Can someone enlighten me?

Answer:AMD Processor ID

I know cpu z tells you what core you have in the "code name" box.
Newcastle(despite the name) is old, Winchester is newer, Venice is newest. San Diego is new like venice, but I think it has more cache.
Toledo is for the dual core x2 cpu.

Question: AMD Processor Help

Hello, after being with Intel for as long as I can remember I have just purchased the following AMD Motherboard : Asus M2N32 WS Professional After a lot of googling I am still confused as to what processors will support this board. Namely, the difference between socket 939 and socket 940. I think this is a socket 940 board. Confirmation? As I understand it I need to avoid socket 939 processors but when ever I look at Athlon 64 x 2 processors which the 940 supports they seems to come in the 939 category as well. Furthermore, AMD Athlon 64 FX, AMD Athlon 64 X2 seem to be used as terms instead of socket types. Tres confused. This is the processor I want : AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (3GHz) Socket AM2 L2 2MB (2 x 1MB) Cache OEM Processor. Will it work??Any help for a confused intel man would be appreciated.

I have a PC with a P3 600Mhz processor that I use for playing/recording CD's and internet radio. Its loaded with XP and is connected by a wireless USB network card to my wireless router and works ok. There's practically no software on there (no Office etc), just Media player, acrobat and Soudblaster programs etc.My problem is that I have noticed recently that the unit makes a lot of noise when its not really doing anything except play an internet radio station. When I checked on the task manager I noticed that the processor was running at 100% practically all the time! Sureley this is not right? My other pc doesn't do this.I tried unplugging the USB sound card, and wireless network card one by one, and this does slow the processor down a bit, but its still running at a pretty high percentage.Do you thing there's something wrong with the machine, or is it just not up to the job?

Heat sink not on correctly (backward?) or no thermal paste. If you are using thermal paste and the heat sink is applied, you may have too much. Please recheck and advise.

Hi;

I have AMD 2100+ processor (but only runs at 1751 something, I think thats what speed it is suppose to run), 512DDR samsung ram (2X256DDR in 1 and 2 slots), ATI RADEON 8500LE 64mb video card, and Soltek KT400-A4 ATX SOCKET A DDR400 AGP4X 5PCI ATA133 USB2.0 mother board, 80GB hard drive 7200 rpm. Whenever I play battlefield 1942 (DESERT COMBAT MOD) online it is slow when playing on high settings; however, when I turn settings on low then it tends to slow down when there are so many wehicles at a time. Also, I played "MEDAL OF HONOR: PACIFIC ASSAULT" demo, and it was running so slow, same with demo of "STAR WARS: BATTLEFRONT". So, my question is what i need to upgrade? I was thinking of getting 512DDR of memory by same brand and sticking it in 3rd slot. Will it solve my problem? or Do I need to buy a new processor? If so, which one will be better for my mother board. I have a 17 inch. case, with 3 fans allready installed, and can install one more, if computer gets hot. I think my power supply is 2.5V, but I am not sure. Or Do I need to get a new VIDEO CARD? if so, which one should I get. I can't spend lot of money on these parts, as I don't have lots of money to spend. I want something cheap and better quality.

Thank you guys.

Answer:Do I need new processor?

Well, there isn't really anything wrong with a AMD 2100+ so I think it might be the video card. If I were you I'd look for something with atleast 128MB of ram on it. Its also too bad that your AGP is only 4X.

Answer:Need help, add a new processor?

download everest home edition to find out what "socket" type you have for your processor and go from there. i think socket 370 can go up to 1.3 GHz.

most likely that, if the games you received are fairly new or recent, you will need a good video card to run them.

I did a quick look on the Dell site and it seems that your motherboard was available with up to a 2.0GHz processor. I couldn't tell if it's possible to add a faster processor. But if not, no sense upgrading to 2.0. You might get more benefit from adding RAM or a better graphics card.

Suggest you go to dell.com. and look or post in the forums.

I've been wanting to upgrade my computer for a while now, and recently decided to look up a processor. I found a cheap one, but then came to the realization that I had no clue how to install it or if it is even compatable with my computer. My brother, who I figured could help, has installed a RAM chip into his computer, but has never put in a processor before. Since he is away at college, I would have to wait a month before he could come here to install, and I'm hoping to install a little earlier.

My computer: A gateway (Windows 98), currently installed with a PentiumIII. I don't know the processing speed, but I'm guessing it's just slightly below 600MHz (a game requiring 600MHz runs pretty slow on my computer, and I meet all the other system requirements).

The processor I want to install: AMD Thoroughbred-B Athlon XP 2600+. Heres the sight (has specs under the 'read more' link) http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=634892/search=processor
(if you can find a better deal, please let me know. I'm poor =P)

So the first question is, will this be compatable with my computer?
If it is, how do I install it? (Money is an issue for me right now, so I'm hesitant about going some place to get it installed)

Also, someone offered to buy me a video card and/or some ram. I've picked out these:

Answer:I want to buy a new processor

The best bet is to have the manual for your motherboard, and it should tell you what that board can support. If you don't have a manual, and you can get the model number off the board, enter it into "google" and you will probably get to the mfg's website, or another board that has the info you need.
Best of luck to you.

Answer:Best Processor?

What no P4EE? this chip is clocked to 3.2GHz and features 2MB of on-die L3 cache alongside its 512KB L2 cache. If money is no object maybe the P4EE, this changes on a weekly basis, because AMD is coming out with the AMD Athlon FX-53, so I would just pick one and be happy, in a week it will be obsolete. Alot depends on what your going to use it for and even then benchmarking different games or application can vary between the two.

Answer:What processor do I have?

Wonder if anyone can help me.I have a new PC from Carrera. I ordered an AMD XP2600+. When it arrived I booted up and checked the specs against those that I ordered. System information stated that I had a AMD XP 2000+ running at 1666 mhz. I contacted Carrera to tell them they had sent me th wrong processor. They replied that it was the right processor but they had set the BIOS incorrectly. I followed their instructions to amend the processor speed and rebooted. After some tinkering with the memory speed I eventually got the OC to run and system info says that I now have a AMD 2600+ running at 2083 mhz. However, the PC has hung several times in a way that appears to point to the processor overheating which leads me to suspect that I they have simply got me to overclock the processor. And so to my question. Is there a definitive way of knowing what processor I have without having to physically take the fan and heatsink off and inspect it? Any help would be much appreciated.Jason

you really need the cpu fan to work......as it cools the cpu via the heatsnk......leaving the case side will not do much.....?ambient.....temp.....try cleaning the fan......

Question: Which processor

I am thinking of going for a new mainboard bundle, but which processor would give me the same if not better results than the one I have which is an AMD Athlon XP 2500 1.8ghz.Failing that I currently have a socket A mainboard if I replace that with a new socket A will all the memory chips etc fit??

Answer:Which processor

Don't buy a new socket a mainboard. It is basically obsoleteIf you need to buy a new mobo go for 939 pin with PCI express graphics card slot. But you'll need to go quite expensive to make much difference in performance above your Barton 2500 cpu

Its time to overhaul my system. I was going to get a Barton 2500 but my truck desperately needs a paint job so Im stuck with a sub-2000 XP. How do you OC them? I hear the graphite pencil doesnt work on them. I was thinking of a 1700 or 1800 because they are so cheap. The rest of the upgrades will be an MSI KT400 Ultra mobo, 512mb PC2700, WD 80gig SE hard drive and a Radeon 9000 Pro 128mb.

Answer:Anyone OC'ing an XP processor???

Chances are that you'll still get a thouroghbred chip even at those speeds nowadays;. so on must recent boards, less than a year or 18 months old with the latest BIOS say less than 6 months old that suport Tbreds, the lower multipliers will be unlocked. So you can up the FSB and lower your multipliers. Not many people OC by upping the multiplier.

1700 Tbreds are supposed to be one of the best OCers around and you'll probably get that MB up to 166 FSB easily with one.

It's rather hard to gather times and dates on this, but when will AMD be releasing new processor's like the Opteron, Athlon 64...things like that? I'm wanting to get a new processor and perhaps motherboard soon, but want to know what will be out within the next month?

Hello, I'm new to this forum, and I need help. We want to buy a new computer that we saw advertised for a good price, but we are not sure how good it is. Its a Compaq presario ... Intel Celeron processor 2.70GHz / 256MB DDR SDRAM memory / 40GB Ultra DMA hard drive. We are concerned it will be extremely slow because its not a pentium 4. We already have 2 computers, and we are wondering how this one will compare. The 2 computers that we already have, are Compaq presario 6000 pentium 4 2.00GHz / 512MB / 80GB hard drive & we also have (old model) HP pavilion Intel Celeron processor 466 MHz. Our concern is, how will a 2.70GHz processor perform ? We know it wont even be close to our pentium 4 2.00 GHz, but with our HP pavilion, sometimes we are not even open pages at certain sites. I guess I'm wondering, what's more important ? Having a higher pentium or higher GHz ?I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Answer:I need processor help

The amount of Giga/Megahertz is not the only factor which determines if a processor is fast or not.2.7Ghz is faster than 2Ghz, however, the BUS speed may be lower, in which case the amount of RAM you have installed may perform more poorly.I suggest you contact Intel or search their website for comparsiment charts, you cannot tell by just the amount of Gigahertz whether a processor is going to provide you less performance than another one or not. 256MB DDR SDRAM is not a lot of memory, and a 40GB HD is not a lot either. -  I suggest you find a deal that doubles both.

Question: Processor Help?

Hi,

I'm trying to decide between these two processors as I'm on a budget though these are inside Zoostorm tower desktops.

I have no idea what processor is better than the both of them have the Sandybridge architecture, these processors are the Intel Pentium Dual Core G840 or the G630. I think that they are stripped down versions of the i3 or i5 processors.

I will enclose the specs for both for further analysis if required as any thing is better than my 8 year old Dell Dimension 5150.

Zoostorm with G840 and the Zoostorm with G630

and

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz (1333FSB) - Retail

as i want a new CPU and thought dual core 3ghz was the way to go

Also is overclocking 8800GT's very risky and worth while?

Cheers.

Question: which processor?

what is the difference between the Intel Pentium 4 and the Centrino processors? I am thinking of getting a new laptop and both are offered.

Answer:which processor?

the pentium M (centrino) was designed from the beginning to be a laptop preocssor. Though it has lower clock speed it uses eash cycle more efficiently, this allows a 1.4ghz Pentium M to match a 2.0ghz pentium 4. It depends on what you want your laptop for. If you want a laptop to be used on the road with good battery life go centrino. if you want a desktop replacement, the fastest laptop you can get go pentium 4. But on most pentium 4 laptops if you run them on batteries, the processor will run at half speed to conserve power. Also Centrino is not just a processor but the pentium M processor, a specific Intel chipset to compliment the processsor (i forget the number right now) and 802.11b wireless.

by the way there are 3 processors:

Pentium M (centrino)

pentium 4M (movile pentium 4)

Pentuim 4 the desktop pentium, it really should not be used in a laptop.

this is very brief but I hope it helps.

Question: processor

e2-3200 2.4 ghz processor is it good for gaming

Answer:processor

How long is a rope?

You have asked a question that does not have a definitive answer. You need to post what games you want to play, your exact system specs ie mb, if you have a real video card installed or do you intend to use the on chip video, etc, etc.

I have an AOpen AX45-533 (533MHz FSB) Motherboard with 1GB PC2700 DDR RAM.

I have the choice of
1. P4 2GHz 400MHz FSB, 512KB L2 Cache or
2. Celeron 2.2GHz 400MHz FSB, 128KB Cache

The computer will be used for
1. Business applications ie. Office 2003, FrontPage 2002, Accounting package
2. Burning DVD's and CD's
3. Games including Age Of Empires, Empire Earth etc

I have been given the option of either processor for the same cost.
What should I take?

Answer:Which Processor Should I Use

The P4 should outperform the Celeron significantly, there is no contest in my view.
