Is There a reasonable priced data recovery company

Question: Is There a reasonable priced data recovery company

My hard drive has crashed and my local computer store was unable to recover any of my files. I was wondering if there is a reasonably priced data recovery company that can recover lost files that the local computer stores might not be able to recover. Thanks

Preferred Solution: Is There a reasonable priced data recovery company

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,
I?m looking for a Data Recovery company [not a Data Software company] to recover data on my drive that will not spin. Want to spend less than $1000. Please advise.

Thanks,
Joe

Answer:Recommend Data Recovery Company not Data Software Company

Best Data Recovery Company

I have visited many data recovery websites and evaluated their product.

But my experience with one data recovery is almost excellent.

Nucleus Data Recovery, the leading data recovery company having biggest range of professional data recovery software.

Their support is also excellent you drop a email for any help they will respond within 5 minutes.

To recover your data try Kernel Recovery for FAT+NTFS.

The DEMO allows you to preview the recoverable contents and you can check whether the file is recovered correctly or not by double clicking on it.

I have installed Windows 7 on my unit, but Sound Blaster 5.1 Live is not compatible. Any suggestions? Thanks

Answer:Reasonable priced Windows 7 sound card

Take a quick look at this post http://nerdfortress.com/2009/06/06/no-sound-get-sound-blaster-live-and-windows-7-to-play-nice/

Sounds like you might be able to download the XP drivers and then right-click and run in compatibility mode using XP SP2 as your choice.

Might be worth a quick try.

Hi all,
I am on dial up connection now, i pay $20 a month for unlimited use to another internet provider on top of my normal Telstra bill and its been ok as far as $$ & speed for what i have been using it for, but my new computor will have a DVD & CD in it and i would like to be able to sometimes download movies and songs with it and the dialup i think will be far to slow for that type of use.
Its not only that, but when i use the internet on the same line as phone calls, i am missing a lot of calls and others in the house are getting pretty irrritated with me being always on the net.
I am a bit restricted as far as money goes because i am on a diability pension,
so i am looking for a reasonable priced provider that will suit my needs without going to overboard with the prices and will keep the phone clear for all other normal phone calls.
I have been looking at a few differant deals but i see that if you go over a certain amount of m'bytes they get stuck into you for excess, which looks like a bit of a trap to me.
I would even be happy with normal dialup speeds during the day [ when i can get on it] and downloading stuff at off peak times or during the nights.
Or am i asking for to much for to little?
Thanks in advance for any idea's.
Tuby

Answer:Any Aussies know of a reasonable priced cable connection provider

Try Optus ADSL I think they have packages that include your phone and some free local calls. I'm not sure about ADSL but with cable when you exceed your limit they don't charge extra they just limit you to dialup speed.

Can anyone recommend a data Recovery Company? Like anyone who's had a hard drive crash, I don't want to trust the recovery of my image files to an inexperienced outfit. I have/had a LaCie d2 Big Disk 500GB with about 400GB of files on it. Evidently, the problem is most likely electronic, as there is a small hole burned on the control card. Some of the files are backed up, but not all, and they are all important to me. It's my understanding that the 2 Maxtor drives inside are RAID O configured, which makes recovering the files more complicated. If it's risky to fix, then I want to use a reliable, established company. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciatedIf you are pretty sure it is the control board, you can do what the recovery company would probably do anyway...that is to replace the electronics.

Answer:Data Recovery Company Recommendations

For a proprietary drive like the Big Disk, the easiest and probably the most cost effective thing to do is to buy another drive. Assuming that the circuit board dying hasn?t corrupted the data, you should be able to swap the drives out of the new unit and put your older drives in. If all is well, you will see your data. But if still there is any problem recovering your data then I will suggest you to go to data recovery labs. They will recover your data with a snatch of fingers. Few days ago my friend working in MNC came with a terror on his face. From him I came to know about how he has lost his data, with the system crash. He was supposed give very important information in his company. My friends and me tried our best to recover but failed. Then we decided to go to data recovery labs. The first lab, which we came across, didn?t work out well. Finally we reach SAlvageData Recovery Lab  at   Inc., 76 Progress Drive, Corporate Park, Stamford, CT 06902. Guess what it was just unexpected; he got all his data he had lost. Nice lab I must say. As you go to the lab you must tell them what exactly has happen i.e. how you have lost your data and what you did to recover it but failed etc. etc. All the best.

I have a HD that has gone bad. 1 software programmer and 3 companies have looked at it and can't get anything off of it. The consensus seems to be a bad LBA. No one can boot the drive with any version of windows. It just locks up the computer. It was successfully booted in Ubuntu and we could see all of the folders, it just couldn't see any of the files. One of the companies tried running 2 recovery software programs on it and it could only get to 17% after 2 days before getting an error. It sounds like it needs to be opened up and put into a new drive. Where would you recommend sending it? It is a 3 yr old 750g 7200rpm Seagate SATA drive. It has been backed up a couple of months ago, but I have some recent work files and pics/etc that would be nice to have back. A place called 24hrdata acted like they could get it back, but it could cost anywhere from $500 to $2000. Is that a good company? What others would you suggest? What's on there certainly isn't worth $2000, but I would gladly pay $500 or so to get it back.

Thanks

My Olympus XD picture card has failed me big time. Was happily snapping away, then next time I turn camera on I just get card error. Can't do anything except format which I don't wanna do cos I think this destroys all the data totally??

Tried using a card reader and putting it directly into laptop but it doesn't recognise it so I can't even try any of the programmes you can download. Also tried it in a different camera, no joy.

Theres some awesome shots on it, I'm so gutted

I'm pretty damn sure the card isn't damaged and it didnt get wet etc as I didn't take it out of the camera at all before I got the error message.

So is it worth paying for data recovery or is it hopeless?

PS sorry if this should have gone in photography section but I thought it seems more related to computers than photography

My HD has crashed. The BIOS doesn't recognize the HD. I tried switching IDE, putting it in another laptop, all in vain. Then I noticed almost 1/4 of the supposed-to-be green area has turned black. I've consulted the symptoms to numerous service providers including some of the specialized data recovery companies. They all said the same which was basically that I need a forensic work. Here's my questions

1. Should I try freezing it before sending to the lab? Is it going to cause more damages to the drive?
2. I googled for 'data recovery company', and got hundreds of hits. Really have no idea which one I should choose. For some of you guys that had gone through this before, I would be really appreciated if you could recommend a good place with reliable credential and (maybe also) a friendly price to send my HD to since I'm still a college student with very modest income.

Hi,
I need to have data recovery done on one of my hard drives. I know this is pretty expensive, but the data on the drive is important. It was backed up not too long ago, but I have put alot on it since.
Does anyone have any suggestions or experiences with any data recovery service? It seems to range from national types down to mom and pop companies. There is one I see on the net called Gillware, and there are also ones in my area ( Southeastern NY ).
I've removed the drive from my system ( it is a secondary drive ) and installed it into a friends external case, with the same results. It spun up long enough for my PC to see the USB connection, but then it died. The drive is making a click, and the pitch from the drive spinning goes up and down, like it is struggling.
Any ideas, suggestions or testimonials would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your time.

I am using a Laptop with Vodaphone 3 G Data Card to pick up my E-Mails when I am on the road and am finding it very expensive. It is a pay as you go Does anyone have any idea if there are any that are reasonably priced to use? I have a brand new W530 with the 500 GB HD -- 445 GB actual total space in C: ("Windows7_OS"), including about 85 GB of OS, pre-installed applications, and Lenovo bloat-ware).  I plan to create a separate user-data partition by stealing space from the OS partition, call it E:, and to re-direct user Documents, Pictures, etc. directories plus the Outlook PST file there.  Thus C: will be reserved mainly for Windows, Page File, Crash Dump, Restore Points, and new software installation. Any thoughts about a reasonable division of drive space between these two partitions?  Coming from Windows XP 32bit on a much smaller HD, I have little idea what to expect in terms comfortable space requriements for Windows 7 64bit.  (I realize I can re-size the partitions later, but it seems best to start with realistic allocations...) -- JCW2

Answer:What is a Reasonable Tradeoff Between System and Data Space in Windows 7 64bit?

It is hard to comment without some idea how the machine will be used. Some applications are not very well behaved and install on the c: drive regardless of what you do. Some functions, like the briefcase functions in windows 7 are harder to get off c:, although it can be done. (I got it right the second time I tried) If you share files using briefcase, you end may up with most of your data on c:. I decided I wanted to boot from an SSD, but I needed more data, so I put in a 256GB mSATA drive and moved my boot partition there. I used my entire HD for data. That worked out well for me.

Answer:One higher priced gpu or 2 lower priced cards on sli ?

Single-parameter benchmarks are dubious, but see:

PassMark Software - Video Card Benchmark Charts - Video Card Model List

Look like a 660 ti would be better than two GT 640 cards in SLI.

I'm not sure whether anyone manfactures GT 640 cards with SLI connectors. nVidia lists a configuration that supports SLI, but my favorite US web dealer, www.newegg.com, doesn't sell any. The GT 640 models made by eVGA clearly don't do SLI.

Is there any place that you can get a 660 ti for ?150? Looks more like a ?250+ card. (Doesn't help that it's a brand new model.)

Best of luck.

hi :

i would like to find out more from you guys.
what is the data prolicy in your company that restrict user to copy data out to the external media ? assume user can only use/review the data within the company pc only. what are the best practice/ways to prevent user copy data out to their own thumb drive, floppy disk, or cd media etc...

solution that i can think of ...
1. disable the floppy drive.
2. disable the usb port .
3. install only read cd-rom drive.
4. setup file auditing in the file server.

it will be even more troublsome if the pc can access the internet coz they can upload to offsite storage or use webmail to send data to themselves

solution that i can think of ...
1. block all the website and storage site.

what else can i do to restrict it?

My company is shifting their data security emphasis to monitor 3rd parties. For example: we're constantly sending data to a firm that processes our financial data and performs basic accounting/reporting. How do we ensure these 3rd parties aren't mishandling our data? How do we know if Joe Shmoe isn't copying our files, losing/replicating our tapes, or distributing our sensitive information? I'm looking for technologies, software, questionnaires, or some methodology that provides a meaningful assessment or metric that indicates how secure our data is once it leaves our network. Is anyone aware of a product or company that provides this type of service? We're fairly confident that our firewalls, vpns, tunnels, and protocols are securing the data to/from our network...but once it heads to Accounting Wizards, Inc, we lose control. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:How to ensure data integrity/security once it leaves the company network?

Lawyers, lots of lawyers. Really there isn't much you can do, other then ensure the firm you are sending your data to is reputable, and limits access only to those who need access.

I'm looking to ditch one of the remote backup companies we have been using because it is overpriced.

Here is my current setup:
Company: MozyPro www.mozypro.com
Data Content: Images, signs, spreadsheets, etc.
Size: ~12GB
Cost: $16.90 ($10.90/mo + $0.50/GB)
PCs: 1 Server, 1 Desktop
Company: Retail Backup www.retailbackup.com A subsidiary of Backup Nation
Data Content: POS data
Size: ~1GB
Cost: $47.50 ($47.50/mo + $24.50/GB anything over 2GB)
PCs: 1 Server

As you can see Retail Backup is crazy expensive. And I'm pretty sure both companies offer the same features and services. I was not around when Retail Backup was chosen to be our backup company. When I came on board I added mozy pro and moved all our large data off of Retail Backup. Our bill was $250/mo until I did that. I kept using Retail Backup because I was under the impression they would reinstall our POS software in the event of a system crash, but after some research I do not see that written anywhere.

So I'm looking for an alternative to backup our POS data, I've looked at some companies like carbonite, but they seem to have mixed reviews. I will probobly backup our POS data with Mozy too, but I do not want to trust one company to our most critical data.

I was hoping to hear from others experiences with backup companies. I'm looking for business grade backup that costs less than $47.50/mo to backup 2GB of data.
BTW the server is running windows 2000 server, and will be upgraded to win... Read more

I have 2 problems, mine is recovering data from a DVD-R & a friend is looking for my help in recovering data from a "corrupted" Flash Drive.

I was burning data on a DVD-R multiple sessions disk when my Burner crapped out while using Nero. I now have a new Burner & when I go back into this disk I can only read data from my 1st session when I compare the #s from Nero's disk info tool, however it also shows that session 5 is still open?? but I cannot read anything from sessions 2, 3 & 4. Looking around I spotted CD Recovery Tool Box Free 1.1.7 is there anything more recent and or better that would let me try to recover the data on this disk. The data in session 5 is still on my HD but I would like to be able to recover the data in the other sessions, worst possible case even just the file names would be a small plus.

Now for the Flash Drive. It is a Lexar 8 Gig & what supposedly happened is that Peter lent it to a fellow employee so he could extract some data (probably a mistake). When he got it back a few minutes later & tried to use it all he got was a message that it was corrupted. As it has all of his product codes, phone numbers & personal sales data for the last year he is really desperate to try & recover the data. He does not have a computer of his own, so he has no backup (another bad idea). Hi, my HP Vista 32 bit pc was having issues and it recommended that I do a system recovery. It said it would only format the windows partition of my hd. Orginally I had drive c and a drive that had my windows parition on it. I went ahead and did it. When it booted back up it moved everything I had on drive c to drive f and made a new drive c. I was able to find everything I had before except my most recent quickbooks file. I tried a few recovery tools but when I find something that looks close to the files name it says it only 0b. I tried doing a deep scan in c and f. Im just really confused because nothing else came up missing. Am I looking in the wrong place?

wit keeping my lost data in corrupted disk first, can i take them slowly to this 300 gb spaces (i know i can) and after create somehow emty space (deleting those recovered 300 gb + 50 on corrupted disk) and
use that empty space for more recovery. ???? Or smilar solutions.. Becouse DISC PRICES IS HEAVY nowadays and really i'm out of budget with buying some

Greetings,

We recently replaced our old Checkpoint server (router/firewall) at one of our overseas divisions (forest.company.com) with Cisco equipment. All connectivity appears to be working fine now. Nothing changed subnet-wise; just a hardware replacement, that is all.

Here is the problem: from forest.company.com, we are unable to ping server42.company.com (does not resolve to an IP address), nor just 'server42', and we used to be able to. We can ping the IP address of server42 successfully, to which we also have a network share but even using the IP address in UNC path we get an error message like "no network provider accepted the given path" (Server 2003) or "a device attached to the system is not functioning" (Server 2008).

EDIT: Well, we just made an entry 'server42' into the server responsible for DNS at forest.company.com statically defining its IP address, and modified the KIX script to map \\server42\common instead of \\server42.company.com\common. Tested a user on two terminal servers, appears to be working. Not sure where those errors were coming from It's working now.

Answer:server42.company.com no longer resolves from *.forest.company.com servers

The bill is in the mail.

hi
i have a scSi disk 36.4GB, i lost information from it and tried to recover with other recovery softwares to no avail finally i got winhex & got the professional licence.

i can now be able to see all the information on the 1 whole NTFS partition, but the problem is that i can't be able to recover it.
when ever i open the logical drive i can see all the information and most of the information is stack up in a "free space" which is around 33gb which i can be able to see has all the information that i need.
i have tried to recover the free space but its only copied to the location that i specify and no recoveries are made.
recovering the files by type/ name has bore no fruits.

a freind told me i have to curve out that area and use data extractors to get the information out of that area (freee space).

the information in that drive are sql data bases and zip files. whats the header for sql.

what techniques do i use to curve out that space and be abele to extract the information, for i can even read the information in text format.

which are the data extractors available in the market

kindly assist its quite urgent i get this information out

Answer:data extractors / sql header [Hard Drive data recovery]

I don't know where this thread properly belongs -- but I suspect the question may be too esoteric for most here.

Since it involves data recovery from a hard drive I'm going to move it to Hardware, I think "all other software" is not likely to have anyone with this type of experience.

Minitool Power Data Recovery or Runtime Get Data Back, which
one would you choose or which one did you choose? I want to purchase a serious data recovery program for personal business use.

Answer:Minitool Power Data Recovery or Runtime Get Data Back, which

Hi

Both are good programs and i would recommend purchasing both ( if you can afford ). Both has it's own pros and cons.
"GetDataBack" is good at virtual reconstruction of damage/unrecognizable file systems but i personally found it weak at recovering image files. It recovers images but most of them seems to be corrupted in my testings. Also you need to purchase seperate versions for FAT and NTFS ( GetDataBack simple is garbage ).

On the other hand, "Power data Recovery" works with both FAT and NTFS and it is better at recovering image files. Another proven tools is "R-Studio" which has quiet good reputation among DR professionals. It's user interface is not newbie friendly but has lot's of options which no other tools offers.

Dear Friends.
Hope this finds you well!
I'm not certain this is in the best forum, but it is a Windows 7 computer
I was trying to do another sets of DVD's from existing MP4 files from a SanDisk Ultra 32GB card. These would then be used with DVD Flick and ImgBurn to make the DVD's. The first(2) DVD's worked well but somehow a few of the files were not copied entirely. So, I was redoing these again to make certain I had ALL the files for the next (2) DVD's.
These are files my older brother entrusted to me for me to convert them to a DVD format. They are files of his daughters nearly entire basketball season [frames] of about 70 files and were sentimental to him and his daughter.
I feel personally responsible to correct this if it is at all possible!? It could get ugly
It was an honest error on my part as I mistakenly deleted what was titled Video 100 on the SanDisk which contained all these MP4 files. I didn't realize I was removing them from the SanDisk. I'm hoping there is a free date recovery app I could use for this one application so that an expensive license would not be required!?
Thank You in advance for your care, compassion and cooperation. I'm stuck in the mud...
Very Truly Yours,
Raphael

Answer:Data Recovery of data from laptop hard drives

Am confused with your external kits part.... Anyway, I assume that you have a working lenovo laptop and a working desktop. You try to plug in the lenovo HDD into a USB drive kit and extract data from the desktop. 1) Is the lenovo HDD encrpted? Check the Bios and also if lenovo security software is installed. 2) The fastest way i do it nowadays is to connect both laptop and desktop to a network. Then share the disk drive(s) and extract data from either laptop or desktop. A second option is to remote access the laptop and extract the data. 3) Another possibility is that your laptop is XP, ie the formatting is not AHCI (check the bios under sata), it's in compatible mode. The desktop is using Vista or window 7?

Well I was wrong.

Can anyone please help me with a way to get the information on my second partition (E:) back?

The HDD has been formatted by Recovery DVD and this means that all available partitions have been erased!

Of course there are many companies which are able to rescue the data on damage HDDs of after HDD formatting but in my opinion the costs would be immense?

Hi there people. First post so sorry if it's in the wrong place or anything. I've had as much of a search as I can and haven't found anyone with quite the same situation as me. The questions come at the end of the rambling background to my problem!!! Hope you can make it through to the end! My E520 recently just went beyond it's warranty and surprise surprise fairly soon after that I got a warning through ThinkVantage that there was a problem with my internal hard drive. When I googled the problem it said that the hard drive was going to fail and to replace it immediately.  As I (like an idiot) hadn't got round to backing up my computer properly (I'd saved all music, photos and videos to a seperate hard drive but hadn't done a Rescue and Recovery or Windows back up) I went out and bought a seperate hard drive to back up the computer and some disks to create the recovery boot disks.  When I went to the Q drive to do this I misunderstood the question about do I want to create a data back up disk. I thought this meant all my media so I said no and created just the boot recovery disks.  So my question (told you I'd get there) is this. When I replace the internal hard drive and use the boot disks to install windows will I then be able to use the Lenovo Rescue and Recovery to restore my computer to it's former glory? Or will the fact that I'm not restoring the Lenovo skin (sorry if my terminology is wrong here. Not sure what to call it) ... Read more

Hi,

I have been using a Kingston 1gb data traveler to store work however as I was saving my word document to go home Word 2007 crashed and restarted itself, it did not however bring up any autorecover options. I therefore thought everything was ok and pulled out the USB. When I tried to plug this in again it says 'USB device not recognized' This device may have malfunctioned etc. It then proceeds to install the USB as an unknown device and appear like this in the device manager.

I desperately need to recover this data, I was designing a website and had 25 pages of text on the USB stick.

What I've Tried

Plugging the USB in another machine. This bought up exactly the same error

Downloading a Data Doctor Recovery Pen Drive tool. This however did not recognise a USB as being in the system and thus did not work.

Is there anything I can do to rescue this data?

P.s. I use Vista 32-bit Business.

(BTW if this is in the wrong forum then please tell me and then move as appropriate. Thanks.)

Yesterday I was trying to put my Packard Bell iMedia 1601 running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 to sleep and I got a blue screen with the following error codes:

STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00190203, 0x835C7A98, 0xC0000102, 0x00000000)

Following that, I could not boot in any mode further than the Microsoft Windows XP loading screen, at which point the same blue screen was displayed.

Today I decided to go ahead with a Packard Bell Partial Recovery, which allows you to retain your data. At first the System Restore (on the first screen) and Partial Recovery (on the second screen) options were greyed out, and then System Restore randomly became available, so I tried that, got an error message, clicked "OK" the first time and closed it the second time and both times it restarted. Then Partial Recovery was suddenly available.

So I went ahead with that and when it came to the screen where it asked me what user I wanted to retain the only option was "No Profile". Thinking that my data would still be in the place the instructions said it would be (C:\documents and settings\[Chosen user name]) I went ahead with "No Profile". The recovery ran and the computer restarted, and Windows started up again as if it was the first time I'd ran the computer. So I created the two user accounts that had previously existed and then logged in with mine. A... Read more

Hi
I used CLEAN in DISKPART and i delete all partitions of my only disk.
Now i dont have any OS on my laptop and i want recover partition by "Partition Wizard" or "Test Disk" that can boot from CD but i fear that this bootable program overwrite on my only disk to load itself and some part of my data will be lost.
Am i right?
I must apologize because of my weak language skills.

Answer:May i lost my data in recovery by bootable recovery programs?

It depends on how valuable your data was and much you want to spend to get it back. The best chance you would have of retrieving your data would be to take your hard drive to a professional recovery service, explain to them the exact steps you did to delete your partitions and pay the professionals to retrieve your data.

I have successfully - many, many years ago - recovered a deleted partition using software that I purchased, but I can't remember exactly which software it was - I only used it once.

Software such as this:
Free Partition Recovery Software - EaseUS Partition Recovery.

Is meant to be booted from CD/DVD/USB and not write to the hard drive so that it can read possible markers left on the hard drive to indicate where the partitions used to be and restore them.

Hiya... I managed to lose one of my HDD's with all my multimedia on it and have been trying unsuccessfully to regain it with PCINSPECTOR.The HDD ISNT where my windows is installed and has become corrupted; something happened with the partition and it went kablooey. The problem i seem to be having with PCINSPECTOR is that it comes up with; for example "Cluster386.MP3" and it doesn't work. Is it something wrong with how im using PCI or something like that. I scan for drives...Choose "NONAME on FIXED DISK 2", scan for logical drives... and withing the first ten seconds it comes up with two partitions... Choosing the second one i get these files and the first one nothing. Scanning them for FAT. So basically am i using "PCI FR" properly am i doing something wrong and/or, is there a cheap, better alternative with results?Patch.Sorry guys bt i managed to fix this with the use of a different program... Awesome program I'm gonna plug it now "R Studio," well worth the investment... My Multimedia was worth the $80 odd...

Hi,

I have a larged data drive that failed a disk check. It stalls when starting stage two (I belive that is the verification of indexing). I have been able to back-up all of the folders except for a large folder of raw video. The PC locks up when I attempt to access/copy this folder (it appears to be part of the problem). I want to make an attempt to recover this data before reformatting the drive.

The check disk fails both at start up or if I run from the desktop both in regular and safe mode. Does anyone have tips for recoverying this data?

Answer:Data Recovery of data drive

You could try using a 98 boot disk and then run ntfsdos from there to access the ntfs partitions. Then try an xcopy of that file to another drive.

Another method could be to use Winrar to create a multipart archive and store it on another drive. This might chunk it up enuff.

Or boot to recovery console from the CD and then run chkdsk /r which marks any sectors that are corrupt as bad so they will not be used again, even after format. All take some time, but they are readily availalble fixes.

Alternatively, you could create an image of the drive and save that somewhere else, then run your drive manufacturers disk utility to check integrity of the disk.

Hope this helps

Hi all, i am requesting some technical assitance in solving this issue.

i have a hard disk that has been recently affected by [email protected] virus and all the .doc and xls files have been reduced to 1kb irispective of their initial sizes and when you open the files you get this error; DATA Error [47 0F 94 93 F4 K5]

I would like to recover the affected files to their original state, i have searched the internet over and no one seems to have the solution documented

currently i am trying to download QuickView Plus (Version 8), i have tried all aplications i can come across, including recover my files, winhex, get data back for ntfs, and r-studio.

i am honestly intrested in documenting the solution to this problem, and am intrested in suggestins on the best way to approach this

looking forward to your favourable reply.

Answer:DATA Error [47 0F 94 93 F4 K5] Data Recovery

You will most likely need to restore those files from a backup. But don't do anything until you've made sure the virus is gone. Don't want to reinfect the files.

I have an interesting problem that has been driving some pretty smart IT guys nuts. To perform my job I have to access a certain venders web pages that has security set up that I do not know all the details of. Anyway on the company PC using the company image that is a normal XP image and maintained by Comp U Com.

Any time I access this vender's web page it works fine until just after the log in screen. Once I put in my user name and password and click Ok IE just goes blank white and that's it. No error msg no nothing, its not locked up as the frame is still there and the world is turning but nothing else.

This happens on all the company PCs accessing this particular vender's web page as I went and checked. So I wanted to see if it the problem was in the PC or the network. I took the company PC home and was able to successfully log into that vender's web page from my cable modem at that house. Worked fine.

I have already added the vender web pages to the trusted zone and enabled all the active X and everything, deleted the cookies, tried some proxies etc. Every setting that can be done on the PC I have tried.

My question is what is the company network security system blocking that IE needs to work and how to resolve?

Thanks

Answer:IE blank page problem on company network but works fine off company network

Oh and to add this I loaded FireFox and from the company PC on the company network it logs in fine but FireFox will not display the page correctly and all the buttons do not work right so that is another issue.

I would like to get IE working as that is what these pages were written for

There is no way to repair corrupted files. They are after all corrupted. You can recover files using various methods. Recuva is one of the tools I have used in the past. But once a file gets corrupted there is no chance to get it back.

Question: Reasonable prices?

What would be a reasonable price to "reimage" a machine?
(ie wipe off all the trojans/adware/spyware)

Reimage including databackup and a reinstall of the os and drivers.

Data backup being a loose sense of the term and including just music, photos, documents, email, and favorites, and just to be nice also throwing on a few apps that are essential...itunes, aim, firefox, spybot, antivirus of choice.

I know geek squad's prices...and they are...about on par I'd say for the amount of time it takes to do all of the above but what do you guys think?

Good Afternoon, Gentlemen,
I am sorely, at least I think so, of the sound advice that you hand out, on a very regular basis.
I have had an Acer Aspire One 722-C62kk with an 11.6” screen and 4GB for a couple of years. And it has done – and is doing – the job I wanted it to do; namely to take on holidays with us so we can keep in touch with friends whilst on the holiday. But we are just back from 2 weeks in Lanzarote and I must admit that I have found it s-l-o-w. I do not know anything about chips and, therefore, would be very grateful if someone could recommend a notebook with a faster chip in it. This is where I will probably annoy some of you: I would like one that is 5 to 10 times faster!! Also I am not looking for a new notebook – these all seem to come with Windows 10 which I do not like – but a second hand one with Windows 7 preferably 64Bit Home Premium or similar with USB 3.0 port(s). I am quite willing to go to £100, but for a good one am willing to stretch up to £200. Hi all,

I'm currently looking into buying a new server for the company I'm interning at. The issue is I'm somewhat clueless about IT in general, so I'm concerned an offer I've received for a Dell PowerEdge T430 server which I've pasted below is a rip off. The price I've been quoted is $4020,10.

Here are the specs:
"Server Dell PowerEdge T430 8B, (1)*Intel Xeon E5-2630v4 Processor (2.2GHz, 10C, 25MB, 8.0GT/s QPI, 85W), 32GB (2x16GB) 2400MHz RDIMM, PERC H330, DVD+/-RW, (2)*1TB SATA 6Gbps 7.2k 3.5" HD Hot Plug (up to 8x3.5"HDD), Broadcom 5720 GbE Dual Port on board, IDRAC8 Ent., (2)*750W, No Rails, 3y NBD"

Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Also if it helps the initial uses of the server would be secure data storage, hosting an email service for 12 staff members, and if possible setting up a hybrid disaster recovery solution, for instance linking the service to a cloud based service like Microsoft Azure.

If anyone out there can suggest a cheaper and viable alternative that would be ace!

Best regards,

James

Hey all,

I've been running my system under full load for twenty minutes.

I've got RMClock, CPU-Z and ATITool open to monitor, and I'm also using Orthos to stress my RAM and my CPU.

Temperatures:

LeadTek 7950GT TDH 256MB -- 90 degrees
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 2.4GHz -- 48 degrees [won't let me overclock yet, it's running at stock speeds with a Zalman heatsink].
Transcend 1066 2 x 1GB -- 64 degrees

These temperatures seem all right for twenty minutes of full load? I'm scrambling to find a VGA heatsink at a local store, but I've been told a graphics card of this power can safely handle temperatures of up to 100 degrees.

I keep hearing people who have fairly modern PC's (although perhaps lacking a good graphics card) talking about buying a PS3. I would like to tell them that they should really consider spending $200 to $250 for a new video card and using their PC to play games thereby saving themselves the much larger cost of a PS3.

Is this reasonable advice? If they were to upgrade an Intel P4 (3.2 MHz with adequate memory, hard drive, sound quality, etc.) by buying a fairly good quality video card, would that put the machine into a comparable quality such that it would run most games available for the PC such that it would compare fairly well to those same games running on the PS3?

It doesn't have to be extremely high quality. I'd just like to know if it would be reasonably accurate to say that upgrading a fairly modern PC (with a P4 CPU - not a Celeron) with a good quality video card would put it into roughly the same level of performance for playing games as the PS3.

I'm looking for a reasonably priced UPS that can maintain power to a PC(MAX: 850W) and monitor(Rated:22W) for enough time for them to be properly shut down. I'd also like the UPS to have the feature that allows it to automatically shut down the PC when the UPS loses power from mains.
I haven't set a price in stone but I know I don't want to go over £100 and I'd like lower if possible. The UPS would have to have a minimum of two standard UK plugs.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give!

I subscribe to Norton 360 but have got the trojan Antivirus XP 2008 with its annoying porn popups and messages. Via the chat facility, Norton advisors have removed part of the problem remotely but the popups have come back and other irritations, like slow running remain. They have now escalated my call to their virus specialist and want to charge me £70 for a detailed consultation plus check of the PC and clean up. Am I being reasonable thinking that Norton 360 should have stopped the trojan in the first place and it's a bit much having to pay them to clean up. The adviser was quite aggressive saying that I should have this done straight away otherwise I might spread the virus on the internet and my ISP will cut me off.I'd be grateful for views on Norton's stance.

Noticed today that switches with 10 GbE ports are starting to become quite low in price on eBay. Is this a sign that the price is finally starting to move or are these switches junk, lacking features or not usable to attach a server or two and start playing with the speeds?

edit: maybe there are just rear stacking ports? The fronts must just be sfp 1 GbE?

I wanted to hear some opinions about the situation in the office I work in.

Recently we changed accounting software and my advice to change to Office 365 was rejected. Still all 15 employees want their emails to be safe and backed up.
Some employees don't delete their emails, so I end up with approximately 10 GB PST-file size per year per user. Of course I split them year by year. The problem is that they want to keep even pst files from 5 or more years ago. Always available. My idea is now, that I make a one time backup copy of recent years and a daily backup of the actual year.
I made some tries already with EaseUS. But I'm not satisfied.
I'd prefer not to schedule it and leave it up to the employee to decide when to make the backup. So, let's say the employee leaves earlier for some reason why leaving the PC on until 7 pm or so? Also a power cut could prevent that scheduled backup entirely from happening.
Here's a list of what I need the backup software to be able to do:

- Start the whole backup process with a double-click on an icon (on the desktop). EaseUS needs more steps incl. always having to set the Shutdown option manually.
- On the destination file storage or NAS I want to overwrite the previous file, not to create version after version. Or even better: Create a new version but delete the old version afterwards. PSTs are really a hard case since you can't really make incremental backups. I also doubt that some employees will understa... Read more

Some folks may have read my other thread... About a Dell laptop that needs $1,000 of repairs 25 months after purchase.MOST products, you would expect to last at least five years before wearing out - washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, should last even longer, and they take serious abuse!... A quick inventory of my house has The same EQ I bought in 9th grade (I won't say how old it is, ahem, but it was Made in USA, and "Tattoo You" and "Moving Pictures" were the new albums I played on it!) I have four rather old HDDs that are either not recognized by the system or that cause computer shut down when connected.

Is it reasonable to attempt to repair these? It is my understanding that the majority of all HDD failures are electrical and not mechanical. If this is true, then I would conclude that most problems are caused by the replaceable control board on the HD.

BTW I have a circuit board on order to attempt the repair of a 250GByte Seagate HD (a Barracuda 7200.10).

This HD seems to be an ideal candidate for home repair because it immediately shuts down the computer when power is applied. There is a direct short from the HDs' 5 volt input pin to ground. That short circuit exists even when the board is removed from the HD.

Obtaining an exact replacement seems to be the trick. I 'think' I have done that.

Answer:Is It Reasonable/Sensible to Attempt to Repair a HDD

It's not as simple as replacing the PCB on most modern drives, you may also have to move the original ROM chip or firmware that contains the specific drive parameters to the new PCB. Unlike older drives, new drives are all slightly different and unique. With the 7200.10 a PCB swap may work because its an older drive.

A four month old mid-range factory built computer.Functions exactly as it should, but ignoring the sound advice "If it aint broke don't fix it" i would like it to sound less like a collection of busy fans, which it has!I am prepared to spend some more and replace the PSU, CPU's fan and even the case fan.The video card fan seems blameless, stalling for one moment doesn't change the rushing noise. The PSU is probably the most justifiable replacement. It is a bog standard ATX of 300w.I wonder if click here will do the trick. (5th down the list) the 435W job)? The case fan is a standard affair drawing warm air and pushing it out of the back. It is possibly an 8cm fan (approx 7cm between screws) and draws its power from the mobo.Probably not contributing much windrush but suggestions welcome? The CPU fan sits naked on a sort of 4 legged gantry over a very elaborate dome of fine fins and Intel trade mark. A long tale of woe that ends with some questions. Please bare with me in the background explanation.

For over a year I've been having occasional flurries of crashes, hangs and (rarely) BSODs. Months would go by with no problem, then dozens of crashes or hangs in a week. The event logs and rare dumps have not been helpful. People here said it sounded like hardware problem, but no diagnostics I ran could find a problem.

I took it to a pc repair shop which could find no hardware problem (and of course it would not crash or hang for them). The suggested (as did people on this forum) that it probably was ZoneAlarm Internet Security. They installed the Kaspersky Internet Security product (for a fee, of course) and said that should fix the problems. 2 days later it froze 3 times and did automatic reboots 5 times.

I took it back. It still wouldn't crash or hang for them. They said Windows probably needed to be reinstalled - that my update from Win7 Home to Pro corrupted something. Rather than mess up the installation again I asked them to do it (for a fee, of course).

During their attempts to reinstall Windows it started crashing for them. They succeeded on their 3rd attempt, ran some more tests, checked the configuration, and found problems with the ram. They said ram I had was incompatible with the mother board and buggy, but the problems could not be detected by the diagnostics. They also said they had to reinstall Windows a 4th time because the 3rd reinstallation ... Read more

Answer:Reasonable explanation for crashes?

OCZ is high quality, but it is also one of the least compatible memories on the market (meaning it works properly with the fewest hardware configurations)
I use it personally and have for years with no complaint. ...and certainly without the problems you describe, though I always verify the motherboard/ram compatibility before I purchase a motherboard.

If the ram is actually bad it can cause any number of seemingly unrelated problems and errors. Since basically everything processes through the ram and it can be only one stick or one specific memory address on a stick that actually causes the problem. It's possible this bad address can go for months without being used until a specific set of circumstances pops up.

Answer:What is a reasonable restart time?

About 2 minutes in total here. Four users. If the PC hasn't been shut down or restarted for several days, it takes more time for Windows to shut down all running processes.Once Windows has actually shut down all processes, it takes about 45 seconds for it to go through the restart/boot-up before getting back to the Welcome screen.

This is NOT a serious problem, just more of an annoyance which is intriguing me.
With 4gb ram, a reasonable dual processor and graphics card, one would expect a reasonably good performance whatever the case.
My automatic startup consists of just Avast AV, Java, and Malwarebytes although l also get additional icons on the taskbar for the Network and Sharing Center and Action Center.
I use Firefox as my main browser.
I also use SuperAntiSpyware, CCleaner, and Defraggler reasonably frequently, so l know that my system is clear of any junk, malware, spyware, and that no viruses are present.
I fire the system up in the morning, bring up Firefox and all is fine, and reasonably quick.
Do a fair amount of downloading using the MiPony download manager to access rapidshare files, but with my crap connection, the max download speed seems to hover around the 280kbs mark.
I may also have two FF sessions on the go, as well as the downloading, so whatever l do after that seems to really slow the system down.
I have even run ConvertX at the same time as all of the above and the system came to a near grinding halt.
Now l know that all of the above are processor/ram hungry but surely with my specs the computer should more than cope?
Maybe l'm missing something obvious or my dual processor system just cannot cope with more than two ram hungry programs running at the same time.
Has anyone got any ideas or do l just have to live with it.

It will be used with a Gigabyte 8VM800PMD-775 mobo

Answer:Is this a reasonable graphics card?

How much does it cost?
I recommend a 6600GT video card. It should costly almost the same, and you get a lot more performance.

The two bad things are these:

a) You must have a good, quality 300-350 power supply, from a good, well-known manufacturer, with at least 20 A on the 12V rail, in order to have a stable computer.

b) The performance of a 9800 PRO or a 6600GT will be limited by your current CPU (is it a Celeron D or a Celeron?).

Good luck!

Yeah, so i'm looking for a cheap windows 8.1 tablets at a cost around 200$ and 250$.
I want a tablet for watching videos and gaming but at a pretty low cost because of my budget and I don't know where to search for them. The size of the tablet I want is 10.1" and it should contain about 64GB of memory, 2-, or 3GB of ram and a good processor.
Is it too much for 200-250$? Should I have bigger budget? I really would appreciate an answer that includes some specs of the tablet like battery's mAh rate, size and resolution, processor name and clockspeed and of course the price and name of the tablet.
