I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

How old is the Optical drive ? ?They fail...and they dont build them like they used to.QuoteThis is a newer Gateway pc I transferred data to, from my old one. From XP to 7.Also the above is unclear...are you saying you installed Win7 to this Gateway ? ?If so did you remember to DLoad and install the Win7 drivers for the PC ? ?

Hello Im running a win98se and I have recently brought a external USB 2.0 16x DVD writer which I loaded up and now i have problems with running my Cd rom even when i unplug the external writer. Within the device manager it says the device is working properly- the drive reads E-IDE CD -952E/AKV and within the settings the auto insert notification is the only one ticked the reserved drive letters are sitting on F: both begining and end when the external is connected it takes the next letter so G. When the writer is connected it reads DVDRWUSBH16X the settings are disconnect (not sure why that is ticked) and auto insert notification (not sure if this is important but both devices read as CDROM Standard CD-Rom device). I hope I have not rambled on and giving enough info. Any help would be greatly apprieciated.

hey, my computer generally reads disks, music cd's, dvd's, and games (new like sims 3, and old like theme hospital and shogun total war)

ive just got anno 2070 and put in the disk, but its not recognizing it at all, when i first put the disk in, it whirs, as it knows there is a disk there, and a disk icon appears next to the cursor, but then nothing, no disk appears in My computer, and when i click on the drive it asks me to insert a disk, i have tested the disk on a different computer running vista, anno 2070 runs perfectly, and also says it does run on windows 7, i have also tested other disks since putting the game into the windows 7 computer, which work fine, and checked whether the disk can be read in a virtual machine (windows xp in this case), which it cant as i expected, i have run the Microsoft disk checker and all it said was that the disk was unreadable, but the vista computer proves it is readable.

any tips on what to do next? i really want to get playing this
thanks

Answer:dvd drive wont read specific disk, will read on other vista computer

I would think that your optical drive and that particular brand DVD media don't go together well. ( I have an Imation DVD+R DL that my Samsung drive only reads at times but not most of the time. On four other drives - a Sony, a Liteon, an Asus and a Plextor - the media is recognised and accessible without any problems. The Samsung drive is clean, has the latest firmware, can read and write other DVD media. So where am I? )

You may just try cleaning the lense with a Lense Cleaner CD. If it does not help, try burning anno 2070 to another known-to-be-good brand media at a lower speed.

Answer:Computer wont read blank media

Very typical error. It's just not a good drive.
It was discussed here just yesterday: http://www.digitalFAQ.com/forum/showthread.php/verbatim-quality-made-2488.html?p=12922#post12922 (bottom half of that post)

You need to use better blank DVDs. Possibly replace the drive. That's all it is.

I am having problems with my satellite A30/dvd/cdrw drive (TEAC DW-224E-A), it wont read dvd's but will read cd's and cd rom's. The drive will spin looking for the dvd but it wont find it and when I try to start the dvd via my computer menu it says the drives empty.

I have checked that the drive is enabled and it says that the drive is working correctly. I have also tried original and copied dvd's

It used to work fine but stopped all of a sudden,

Has anyone any tips please!!!

Hi

Try to remove the drive from the device manager.
After notebook rebooting the OS should recognizes the drive again.

Hi, anybody can help me how to get Metro Music App to read and play my music library from Synology 212j+ network drive?
Thing is it works fine for standard windows 8 media player so why the heck does it not work for Metro Music App?

When I select a song from the explorer it is played by metro but where are all the other files?
I have a Dutch - not yet supported region - Windows Account, so cant login music and xbox.
I have added synology shared music folder to my desktop music library but explorer keeps warning me that some features may not work so I have also indexed the folder but still no success

It gives me the creeps these complications and Windows may be loosing another user to the Apple platform (which would mean spending a lot of money to replace my windows home system but at least everything is compatible - I guess)
please help, I tried a lot already

Hi there
Goede Morgen !!

Remember that W8 is still technically in BETA so there is more to come out.
Since multi-media and connectivity is very important this I'm sure will be fixed in the final builds of W8.

I shouldn't base your purchasing requirements against what's in a BETA build of an OS. -- Wait till the Final before making that decision -- and meantime use something like Winamp or plenty of other free music playing apps most of which can also stream to and from smart phones etc.

Cheers (Tot Ziens)

I burned a couple data discs for a friend of mine but she can't get them to play. When she opens up the disc in the D drive, opens a folder, and clicks on a song it tells her "Windows can't open file." I havent been over so I can't think of what's wrong.

Answer:Windows wont read discs

To play media you can't simply double click on them but use a player's option to open a file and then browse to the one or more. If you burned mp3s on data and not music type disks you're in trouble! When burned to disk and still seen as mpg3s the Windows Media Player will then add them to the library on the hard drive in playable form wma or mp3 depending on version.

Hello,

Only my second thread here, so I am learning. But I think I have found some friends and I thank you!

My question, I have a bunch of cds that I made MP3s music backups on a couple years ago on a Compaq P2. I now use a Dell 8300 with XP Pro. I just upgraded to Win Media 10 and am using it now as default player. Anyway I successfully copied some of the old MP3s to my library but only about half of the cds. The other half will WM10 will not read in the drive. The weird thing is, it will play the music and show unamed files, but when I try to copy and move to My music folder, it will come back with something like "disk may be corrupt" or some other reason. It wouldn't read them prior to downloading WP10 either but I didn't try them all before. After upgrading I gave it another attempt and like I said, it did read about half. Disks have been kept in safe storage and are clean and unscratched.
Thanks Bill

Hello!

I have a Windows XP Home Edition system and I am trying to import a video from a DVD-R disc into Windows Media Player. I purchased a DVD burner to convert home videos to dvds (using my TV), which works perfectly. In order to play these videos on my XP in Windows Media Player, I have been using a freestanding Memorex DVD recorder that attaches to the computer, as my XP drive does not read DVD-R. This also works just fine. Windows Media Player will read and play my DVD-R discs, but I am unable to get it to actually download/import the videos. I want to be able to download these videos from my DVD-R discs so that they can be stored on my computer and shared with family.

For clarification, when the video is playing in Windows Media Player, the right-hand side of the player lists the video as "Unknown DVD". Clicking on the "Library" tab on the top bar, it again lists the video as "Unknown DVD (F)". Clicking on the "Rip" tab on the top bar, the left-hand side shows "No Disc (D)" and "Unknown Disc (F)", with the message "To begin, insert an audio CD into the CD drive.". The player seems to be perfectly capable of reading and playing my DVD-R videos, but it apparently only recognizes discs in its (D) drive for ripping or importing.

Do I need to purchase more software to be able to do import videos from my DVD-R discs? Should I be using different discs altogether? Any ideas would be greatly, great... Read more

Answer:Windows Media Player will read but not import from DVD-R

A good program to rip a DVD would be DVD Shrink. They have discontinued the program, but you can still find the latest version by searching for it in google.

Burned two CD R's on two different Win 2000 machines using two different programs - Nero Express on one and Easy CD Creator on another. Don't know the versions of those programs.

Took the two different CDs to 4 different Win XP machines and they could not be read. Windows would freeze and and the machines would hard crash.

Hi,

I have a 500GB external hard drive (USB powered) which just stays plugged into my computer at all times which I use for storing music, video, photos etc. When I started up my PC just now, it came up with an error message saying "You need to format the disk in Drive E: before you can use it", and it keeps bringing up this message whenever I unplug it and plug it back in again, or try to access it; but it was working fine just a few hours ago, and the drive hasn't been moved, bumped, unplugged or anything like that between when it was working, and now - so I see no reason for it to have stopped working. Obviously I don't want to format it as that would mean losing everything on it - including many files backed up from my old PC which I hadn't transferred to this new(er) one yet.

I get the same error message plugging it into my desktop PC running windows XP.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated!

I have done a clean re-install of XP,installed service packs,drivers,other software etc.
When I insert my Soundblaster Extigy soundcard installation disc into the cd/dvd drive,it won't read it.
The disc works fine on other PCs.
My CD/DVD drive plays other discs ok.
I have downloaded a copy of the installation disc and mounted it virtually and this doesn't work either.
Any suggestions please?

I have - Athlon XP 2.8,512MB,160GB,SP2

When I put the disc in,it spins for a while, timer on cursor etc.
Then screen goes black(as it should before programme starts),then nothing, stays black.
Have to shut down PC with the off button.

When I try the virtual disc,I get - "The file format is invalid or unsupported."
With the disc,I sometimes get the "Windows has encountered a problem...." message, but not always.

At first, the CD/DVD drive did not not even recognize a disc was in it,but does now, just won't play it.

It is totally unnecessary to use an optical drive to install drivers.

Drivers can be downloaded and then installed from the desktop.

You might try that.

Any help much appreciated as this is driving me crazy.

Basically as the title says my PC wont recognise either Windows 7 disc, 32 or 64 bit.

I'm currently running Windows 7 but trying to reformat. Its worked before with the same PC and disc.
It wont boot when I choose to boot from disk on BIOS and it wont recognise the disc when I put it in. (when Windows is loaded up).

Now here's the kicker.

The DVD drive is fine as my PC is accepting other DVD's I have (I even tried 4 to make sure) and the same Windows 7 disc works fine in my laptop.

So the problem isn't the DVD or the DVD drive. What have I done?

As I said there any help much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi all.
I usually am pretty ok with computers and dont ask for help, however my current problem has left me somewhat baffled.

I ordered an install of a new motherboard not long ago, and had 2 hdd's at the time.
One with a regular connection, one with SATA connection.
I wasnt the one doing the installation of the new motherboard, but sent the computer to a shop.
Once I got it back, it was updated with a new version of windows xp pro and had no problems whatsoever.
Soon after, I decided to reinstall windows to an older version, since I never liked windows xp SP2, It isnt really required.
I booted up my computer with a windows installation cd in my cd rom, and everything was ok untill I got to choosing on which drive I want to install the windows on: Only one was present, and it was the regular connection one.
I didnt think much of it at that moment and installed the windows on that hdd.
Once it came up after installing, the computer simply wasnt reading my second hdd.
I figured that it could be because I installed an older version of windows and something might have gone wrong with it being able to read SATA connections, but it seemed strange since the BIOS wasnt able to read that hdd aswell.
Well, I ignored the problem for a while thinking that maybe if i can update my BIOS to read SATA or something of the sort it could be ok, but i then bought a DVD burner with SATA connections and it could read the burner with no problem, that immediately eliminated my susp... Read more

What ever gave you that idea? What planet are you on? XP, SP2 is required for all the critical Microsoft hardware/software updates...

Get your head out of the sand and put XP, SP2 back on your system. You'll be surprized at how much better your system will run.

Really, anyone that says they don't need XP, SP2 is saying that they are running an illegal copy of XP

These drives do go bad over time, it is conceivably possible the optic in the drive itself is bad.

When I attempt to play an Audio CD I am prompted with the following dialog: We have determined that Windows Media Player cannot accurately read your CD drive digitally. Windows Media Player will therefore switch to reading your CD drive in analog mode. Your CDs will play, but the following items will not work when playing CDs: Visualizations, SRS Wow effect, Graphic Equalizer.

Could someone please explain what's happening all of a sudden? WMP was playing fine until recently.

Someone suggested that I change my drive designations back to default. I recently switched letter designations for my burner and my DVD-ROM drive. I attempted to switch them back by going to Device Manager but was unable to. My CF Card reader had taken over one of the previous letter designations of one of the other two drives. So I went into Device Manager to straighten things out, but now I can't even find my CF Card reader listed. It was there before! In fact, it still works, but for some reason it's not showing up in Device Manager. I find all of this really confusing. If I could find it perhaps I could get the three letter designations back to what they ought to be, and maybe then WMP would work properly.

I would really appreciate help with this very annoying problem.

Thank you,
Bill

Answer:[Solved] Windows Media Player cannot read CD drive digitally

Okay, I solved my own problem again. All I had to do was go into Device Manager > CD-ROM and remove something called NERO-IMAGEDRIVE 2. Doing so allowed me to switch my D and E drives back to their default settings. I had recently reversed them and found that I couldn't switch them back until I first got rid of IMAGEDRIVE 2.

Anymore it seems that every day I have another annoying problem pop up, some undoubtedly of my own making.

Answer:windows xp media player wont play music

If you were/are using a different player you may have selected that player to be the exclusive player for certain file types. Sometimes these third party players even change the file extension. Look at your files to see what extension they have. You may need to chage the details in Windows to show common files type extensions.

Answer:Windows Media Payer Wont find any Music

I have win7 on my laptop and desktop. I have no problem with wmp on my laptop but my desktop suffers from the same problem as yours. There are two ways that I have found around this but they are not solutions since the problem doesn't go away.

You can either delete the music library file that wmp keeps:
1. stop WMPNetworkSvc.
2. go to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player and delete file called CurrentDatabase_371.
3. restart service and start wmp.

Another way that works for me is to remove the music folder from the library, turn off wmp, start wmp and readd the folder.

Both methods require wmp to rescan the music library but it's the only way I've managed to get it to read my music. I also leave wmp running. The library only gets corrupted when I close wmp and start it.

A couple months ago, I had to replace the CD writer that came in my HP. I decided to upgrade to a dual layer DVD-R/RW. I purchased a Pacific Digital (Lite-On). It works fine except that my car stereo has trouble reading music CD's burned on this new writer. I never had a problem with CD's burned on the old unit, even using cheap off-brand CD's. Would it help to burn at a slower speed? I have Nero software. Is there a way to change the write speed? Other suggestions?

Answer:Can't read music CD's

You can lower the speed of your drive while burning but I don't think it will solve your problem. You probably had an older version cd/rw that worked with your older car stero, now that you have a new burner, and a older stero, it might not be compatible. Is your DVD/RW and CD/RW also?

I wanted to know if I told my buddy right.
He has windows xp media center. His monitor is a really nice one like 600 bucks but anyway. he was on it today and it worked fine but when he went to get on it later the monitor would not show anything except it says OUT OF RANGE.

I went out there and tried turning it off and unplugging everything except the mouse, keyboard, and monitor and unplugged it and held in the power button for 15 sec and tried restarting it but it was the same thing OUT OF RANGE.

So I brought in another monitor of mine and plugged it into his computer and it worked fine. So I took his monitor cord and plugged it into another monitor at home another flat monitor and the cord works. His video card is working cause my monitor worked fine.

I hooked up my monitor and set the display to 800/600 to see if that would help and then hooked up his monitor again but no luck OUT OF RANGE.

My question is this. After all that I told him his monitor was bad, do you think I am right and after all that it is the monitor????

Trying to confirm this with myself cause I don['t wnat him to buy a new monitor and that isn't what it is, although I am letting him use an older monitor of mine right now and his computer is working fine with it. Can someone confirm this for me??

Answer:Solved: Windows XP Media center sp2-monitor problem-error-out of range-please read

Try his monitor on another computer to see if it does the same thing there. If it does then you can be pretty sure it is gone south for the duration.

Hello all, first post here. I have a windows XP home edition os pc. Regarding dvd-rom: after using it a few times (about 6 or 7), subsequent uses bring up the blank cd dialog (even the inserted CD's are definitely NOT blank). Error I get when I go to my computer and select the dvd rom is: Please insert a disk into drive e (my dvd rom). The same thing happens with my CD-RW drive as well. 90% ot the time I use audio cd's in my pc. Realone is my preferred player so when I get this blank cd dialog (I cancel or select do nothing) and switch to realone and select its cd tab and it always reads the CD (100%) of the time. When I restart the computer, the DVD-rom adnd CD-RW will read inserted CD-roms and cd's fine for another 6 or 7 inserts before the system gets buggy again. This recently started happening (around the time that my power supply started going on the way out). My pc is 2 and a half years old and its power supply was replaced 6 months ago. So this began about 6 months ago. I am now VERY, VERY tired of this problem as I do not always insert music cd's (as I mentioned realone player reads music cd's even when the system thinks they're blank). Any ideas on getting my machine to always read inserted cd's correctly? Thanks.

This is QUITE important, given that its music from ITunes and worth a couple hundred to me. X_X

I was going to reformat so I got a friend to use Nero to burn my 300+ songs to a memorex CD-R and apparently he burnt them all half to one cd and half to another and yeah so I reformatted and now I'm trying to get them back into my computer and he told me to use FreeRip but its not working.

My computer denies that anything is in the D drive.

It normally does that, as in, I can hardly read recordable cds. Something I'm missing here?

My mom took it to her work and the dude says it doesnt look burnt, they say its maybe empty?

1. How can it *not look* burnt
2. Even if it's empty, that doesnt explain why my computer didnt even recognize it's existance for starters

So eh can somebody light the way for me because there are a number of possibilities and I GOD I JUST WONT BELIEVE THEY'RE EMPTY UNTIL I CAN KNOW FOR SURE BECAUSE THIS IS A BIG INVESTMENT

All in all, please help me read this goddamn cd. If you need more information, ask away.

Answer:Burned music on a CD-R that MY COMPUTER CANT READ!

Try IsoBuster. It will tell you if there's anything on the CD and, even if there was an error during burning, it will recover the files to your hard drive.
www.isobuster.com

FreeRip won't see anything, it's only for backing up audio CDs, not data (which is what your MP3 CD is)

To fix any sort of issue you're experiencing with the Xbox music/video app to first needed to back up all your music files and folders.
Delete all the the music from your phone/sd card. Use a pc/laptop. DON'T delete songs using the app.
Let the app run without any music for a day. You'll see how smooth it is. Just keep constantly testing the app. Opening it and closing it again. Switch it in the multitasking.
After you've waited one entire day add your music back to your sd card/phone. Again using your laptop/pc.
And voila! Now the app will work like a charm. Multitasking, start up of the app, fluency and smoothness all work like they really should.
You're welcome in advance.

Answer:Everyone with any Xbox music app problem need to read this!

First... My system is a Systemax 1 GH Athlon running Windows ME.

I ordered a new Creative 12.10.32X CD-RW drive. It seemed to auto install and burns CD's. The problem is that now Windows media player says that nether the CD-ROM or new CD-RW drive can read music CD's digitally.

Normally, this might not be a problem. But besides the fact that I now can't use the EQ on the Media player, the "NCT Media Converter V1.2" now will not covert CD files to, for instance, "MP3" files for hard disk storage. The CD will not auto start either. There is also problems with recognizing CD music files for CD burn to the CD-RW drive.

I've tried to re-select read music CD digitally in the CD-ROM "System Preferences". It just switches back. Also tried to shut it off in the CD-RW drive. No luck...

IDE setup is...
Hard drive: IDE channel 1, Master
CD-ROM: IDE channel 2, Master
CD-RW: IDE channel 2, Slave

Thanks

Answer:Installed CD-RW. Now CD-ROM will not read music CD's digitaly

Recently my dvd/cd writer stopped recognising blank media and now does not even recognise anything. I have no idea what this means and as this is my only hope for getting my drive to work again i would appreciate any help, or suggestions on how else to fix the drive. Thanks a lot.

Answer:DVD/CD drive wont read disks, & driver wont update

"and as this is my only hope for getting my drive to work again"i can't imagine why you think that, as it was working OK previously. What you are trying to do is NOT a driver - CDs and DVD drives do not require drivers, other than the ones built-in to Windows. What you are trying to do is update the firmware inside the drive - clearl this is not faulty, or the drive would never have worked. If your drive will not recognise anything - I suggest as a first step, borrow a drive from elsewhere and try it out - it seems quite possible your drive has simply failed. Before you do that, just check inside that the cable that feeds it is still firmly plugged in at each end - both the drive and the motherboard - also the power cable.

I noticed a problem when some weird almost tribal sounding music started playing randomly on my computer. Nothing was open, just the desktop. After that I noticed a HUGE drop in performance. It is very difficult to get the computer up and running to a functional state. I use this laptop to search for jobs as I am a recent BS Chemical Engineering graduate. That said I cannot afford to pay for a fix or a new computer. The big problems are as follows, NO .net framework on the machine, no way to activate firewall, cannot use windows update, cannot use windows security (or any other program of the likes), no processing power, and a terrible memory error that does not allow me to "restore" my computer either to a system restore point or to factory. I will attach the requested scan files. Hopefully the ark.txt file is want you are looking for as this was the fifth attempt at running that program and I had issues every time it ran. Do you mean the CD/DVD drive cannot read the mp3 disks or original music CDs?
Did you try to copy these music CDs to another CD using another computer and then to read the new burned CD?
Try this.

Otherwise I recommend deleting the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Hi all,

Strange one here...

I've been using my cd drive ever since I got the poota to listen to music, burn music, burn files etc etc ... today started up the poota, put in a music cd, great, about half hour later took out the music cd put in a blank cd-rw to go burn something as normal, but I got the message 'd is not accessible, incorrect function' ... tried a few other cd-rw's, no joy.

Tried another cd-rw with files on, nothing, same message...

But it happily recognises music cd's, just not blank cd's or cd's with normal files on...

The other strange thing is when I put the CD-rw's in, the icon of the d drive changes to say cd-rw ... but I still get this bloody error message!

Anyone offer some help???

----------------------

I've no idea what I did, but I turned off the poota, tried and but the problem was still there .... decided to uninstall and reinstall my burning software (grabbing at straws) ... and voila! ... for some reason it now works again ....

Whenever I boot up my VAIO (VGN-SZ750N) laptop an all-blue screen appears only momentarily, so that there's no time to read any of what is clearly a very wordy warning in white typescript that fills the whole screen. How can I stop this long enough to read it and take whatever action it recommends?

then, something happens that may be related to this . . .

soon afterward, a boxed message appears saying: "System has recovered from a serious error . . . " Clicking on this results in a huge number of figures that would challenge anybody who attempted to write them down.

Hey there...ok...I have some files that are saved from the Macs at school...when I take them home to my PC (Win) they don't have the extensions on them...when I originally save something from Windows and take it to a Mac and modify and save it then take it back to my PC it still has the extension and keeps it since it was added by Windows...

So I am wondering something...is there a program for Windows that recognizes Mac files and andds the extensions back??? I hate when I start work on some things at school and have to add the extensions to all the stuff I created when I take it back home...my guess is the Macs store the extensions or what the file opens up with or whatever in their "._(filename)" files...that's annoying too...for every file you have another is created with a "._"...

Any help on this??? THANX
C'YA

Answer:Files saved from Macs don't have ext.'s when read on Win. Need sftwre 2 read & convrt

I've never had that problem. If you save it as a "xxx" type document it doesn't matter if you have the software that created it on both Mac and PC (or software that can read the format) so I don't know how/what is going on with your situation.

BTW my experience is with using Word (forgot which version but it's on OS X) on a Mac and OpenOffice on my PC.

Answer:Hard Drive canNOT Be Read, Computer won't boot. Read Error

Hi malpert and welcome to the TechSpot Forum

As a laptop only has the ability to support 1 harddrive your option is to remove the drive from the laptop and connect it to a desktop PC using a 2.5" to 3.5" adaptor and try to read the files on it, however I would download the test tools from the makers website and run a thorough test on the drive to ensure readability of the drive.

Remember though if the drive has failed mechanically then any data may be lost and you will need to use one of the professional data recovery services such as "ontrack data recovery" to get it back.

Backup, backup and backup is the mantra when it comes to important data...

I tried unchecking read only.
When apply and look it is back to read only.

How can I make this read and write permission?

Answer:public tv folder read only? mythtv needs read write persmissions

You can do this by going into the C:>Users>Public folder properties, click the Sharing tab then click on the Advanced Sharing button showing in the first picture.

Click the box to share the folder like in the second picture, at that point the Permissions button will light up.

Click the permissions button, Add check marks for full control "third picture" then hit the Apply button, on all windows click Ok etc.

At this point the Public folder and it's subfolder will have read/write access.

Hi, I'm sort of new to forums, but I have a bit of a pickle, I have a red shield with a white x in it that resembles the windows defender icon in my system tray, when I hover over it it says "Your computer is infected !" When clicked it pops up a window saying: "would you like to update your security software and download registry cleaner?" and occasionally a ballon pops out of the system tray saying "Windows has detected spyware infection which corrupted the registry. It is recommended to load update to prevent data loss. Windows will now download and install the most up-to-date software for you. Click here to protect your computer."

I followed all the directions in the read & run me first thread, and nothing seemed to help, I'm attaching all the logs except counterspy as I couldn't find a way to get it to output a log in text format or anything, it said 0 malware found in everything except in my cookies there was 2 that it deleted.

again any help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.

my dvd can't read or play dvd movie, i reinstall it few times but it can;t solve the problem

can anyone help me about this? i need sugestion

Answer:dvd drive can't read dvd movie, but can read data dvd or dvd games

Shot in the dark...

Go to the Device Manager and find the entry for your DVD. Right click it and select properties then "Region" and make sure a region is set for the drive. Without a region set it won't play movie DVDs.

My CD Drive has started giving me problems.
It doesn't read all the CD I put in (Particularly Audio CDs).

It Plays DVDs fine.
I'm also unable to burn CDs as the system doesn't detect a CD.

Any suggestions on what I should be doing?

Answer:Satellite A100-033 - ODD doesn't read all CDs but read DVDs

Hi

Maybe there is dust on the lens of the CD/DVD drive so I recommend cleansing the lens.

Further you should try to remove the upper and lower filters in registry. This does often solve with the CD/DVD drive so check the workaround on the Microsoft website:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

In worst case the CD/DVD drive must be replaced :(

Ok I just spent about three hours looking in this forum to solve my problem and no dice.

Here it goes: I'm running xp pro and I have a Norcent RW-481 48x12x48 CDRW probably not the best brand but oh well. I'm using Nero 6, InCD is not installed.

The problem: It does not recognize any data CD's or any CD's that the drive itself writes. I can play an audio CD, which elimates (I think) that the read lense is dirty and I can burn a CD, which elimates (I think) that my burn lense is dirty. I'm mentioning dirty lenses because a post in this forum suggested that a dirty lense may be the problem. So, before taking things apart I wanted to post in the forum the problem. Any other suggestions of what else I can look for?

More info: I even switched around the jumpers from cable select to master, same result.

I really believe I have a setting wrong in my XP pro operating system. Any suggestions????? :cronfused:

Lastly, The drive is recognized corectly in device manager

Answer:Outlook 2003: not marking read items as read

Outlook Express has a tab to fix this-maybe Outlook has the same.
TOOLS/OPTIONS/tab READ
check Mark Messages READ after displaying (add 5 seconds)

Maybe that seconds number has been raised above the time you take to scan messages. OE doesnt care IF you peek at a message-it cares HOW long you stare at it.

Any thoughts?

Answer:DVD RW won't read media

Is that the same for ANY disc, including CD as against DVD and does it include dvd`s burnt on this computer
and is the dvd not seen on this computer recognised in your windows 7 computer.

and not knowing your level of knowledge have you checked device manager to see if there are any warnings against the device

You could try running a cleaning disk in case it is dirty, but the DVD and CD functions are separate so it could also be the CD part has failed.

Question: cd wont read in 2k

Hello,

I bought some software lately and put it in one of the newer machines that runs windows 2k. Its a IBM generic clone that I built with P4 and Asus board. I have a cd/dvd player, and a acer writer.

Both of the cd players see the cd, and I can press the Image Launch Installer tab, It starts the program for about 2-3 seconds then stops.

I tried the other cd player, but it did the same thing. I thought that it was a bad cd, but I put it in my other pc running win98SE and the program off the cd installed fine, so I tried my laptop that has XP Pro. It installed without a problem to. I cancelled both setups because I need the program on the win 2k machine.

So I am wondering if there is a Windows 2k cd problem that I am not aware of. I checked the device manager and it was error free.

The cd players have been seeing and installing all of the other cd's that I have installed drivers for the main board, cd writer, dvd player and so on. So far this is the first cd that starts but quickly stops after the "Demo Shield " box apears. It sees the cd, starts the program, I click the Launch Installer tab, then the demo shield comes up, and then the player simply stops.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Eli

Question: CD-ROM wont read?

A while ago i got a Memorex 48x cd-rom and put it in my computer. The CD-ROM never worked very well in teh first place. It would rarely play autoruns, and wouldn't detect that a different cd was in the drive until i restarted it. Today, however, it got even worse. The drive was working fine all day, until just an hour or so ago it decided to quit reading cds. It is detected by the BIOS on boot up, is listed in the "My Computer" screen, but always as a empty drive and if you click on it it says "E:\ not accessable. Drive not ready". It has power, and according to windows it works fine. It just won't read anymore. Has it just bit the big one?
My comp specs are:
Windows 98 se
Amptron K7VZM motherboard with onboard sound and lan
AMD thunderbird 750mhz processor
192MB SDRAM
48x Memorex cd-rom(which has the problem) as secondary master
Memorex 2x2x16 CD-RW as secondary slave
2.1 GB hd as primary master
6.4 GB hd as primary slave

Answer:CD-ROM wont read?

Hi Magus277
You could try reseating the data cablr to the drive and cleaning the drive. (air, cleaner kit) Try booting off your windows98 boot disk with cd rom support enabled. Put a known good data disk (like your windows 98CD)in your CDROM. Then at the prompt type DIR. You should get a list of the files on the CD. If not your CD rom is bad. BOL

Hello,
Here is the problem. I just bought a new PC, and after intalling winows xp pro, the dvd/cd drive wont read. Sometimes I get this error..."Only part of a readprocessmemory or Writeprocessmemory request was completed".
It is a Liteon dvd/cd Double layer drive.
Now.. Sometimes it will work if i turn it off and swap the IDE cable to slot 2, then power up install those drivers, then turn it off and put it back to slot 1. After doing this, it may read once! Then if I change cd I may get the Erorr, or It will just spin really fast and read 0bytes.
Because of this I can't even properly install by mobo, or gfx card.
Here are the specs...
Asus A8N SLI Deluxe
AMD 3200+ Proc
Maxtor 160 Gb SATA
NVidia Ge Force 7300 256mb
512 Ultra 3200ddr2 RAM
Ultra XFinity 500Watt PSU
And the Liteon that wont read.
Everything else but the sound works great
I'm stumpped, and have searched hard. Fresh install if that helps...All new!
Thanks in advance

Answer:wont read ram

Hello,

Try running MemTest86 to make sure that the stick is good. If it is and still not being recognized then there could be a issue with that slot on your Mobo. Also check voltages and that to make sure they are correct.
