Application could not be executed, program is infected. Please Help

Question: Application could not be executed, program is infected. Please Help

Hey guys, I realize that I am not the only person that has encountered this problem, as my research has shown. I tried to ready some similar posts and problems on this forum and others, but I seem to get stuck at certain steps. Here is my situation. Im on a Dell latitude d630 running windows vista. I fell asleep watching Dexter online and when I woke up there was a new looking Anti-Virus program on my task bar that i do not remember installing. The program showed hundreds of infections and was prompting me to delete only if i bought their antivirus. After realizing I could not delete these infections i tried to close the program and open my Malwarebytes Anti Malware and also Synamatec Antivirus. Both programs failed to open, and an error message bubbled off of the "Antivirus" icon. As soon as this happened I tried harder to download new antivirus and to get this off my comp. But no matter what I download, I am unable to install/open. I cannot open task manager, and recently new virus alerts have been popping up. One says i have an infiltration alert about trojans and password stealing attacks, and when I press stay unprotected www.*censored*.com pops up. I tried to fix this going off what you said to others, but I would appreciate a little one on one help to walk me through this, as each case may be different entirely. Thanks a lot!

Preferred Solution: Application could not be executed, program is infected. Please Help

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello and welcome to Computer Hope Forum. My name is Dave. I will be helping you out with your particular problem on your computer. 1. I will be working on your Malware issues. This may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.3. If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.4. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans while I am helping you.5. It is important that you reply to this thread. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. If you can't access the internet with your infected computer you will have to download and transfer any programs to the computer you're using now and transfer them to the infected computer with a CD-RW or a USB storage device. I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. Ok I have seen this issue alot on this board but I can't go through the procedures to fix it because I can't get on the internet on my laptop. When I try to get online I get some sort of antivirus message which Im sure is associated with this spyware/malwware.I have the full version of SuperAnitSpyware and ran it in safe mode and it's not helping. The first scan I ran found 8 threats and it removed them but that didnt help. So after that, I continued to run scans. Now EVERYTIME I run a scan with it, it finds one threat "Adware.Tracking Cookie".  Its removed everytime but that doesnt help. Just the same thing everytime. **No I don't have the SuperAntiSpyware update definitions**I dont know how I would be able to update my Antispyware if I cant even get on the internet. Please Help!

Running Windows XP. I suddenly started getting Windows "bubble" pop-up as follows:

Windows Security Alert - Windows reports that computer is infected. Antivirus software helps to protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. Click here for the scan you computer. Your system might be at risk now.
I'm pretty certain this is a bogus message due to the grammar errors and such. I have not "clicked here" as the prompt suggests.

I had AVG previously installed and running regularly, but when I attempt to run it I get the following:

Application cannot be executed. The file xxxx is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?
Again, I'm confident this is a bogus message. I have always clicked "No" in response to this.
I downloaded Malwarebytes on another PC and installed from a USB stick it onto the infected one. It installed, but when I attempt to run it, I get the same message.
I attempted to call up the Windows Task Manager to see if anything rogue was running. When I press control-alt-delete, the Task Manager pops up for a second, then disappears and I get the "Application cannot be executed" error.
Looking for suggestions as to how to best proceed.

Thanks.

Hi,I have read previous posts regarding this issue so have started by scanning with SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Hijack this. I have patsed the logs onto this message in the hope someone can assist me with this problem. Basically out of the blue keep getting various application cannot be executed messages popping up at the bottom of the screen and it advises me to buy AV Security Suite and tells me my pc has no protection even though i currently use both Avast and AVG. Hope the logs give some clues and can help with this problem.ClareexeHelper by RaktorBuild 20100414Run at 17:43:11 on 06/19/10exeHelper by RaktorBuild 20100414Run at 17:43:38 on 06/19/10Now searching...Checking for numerical processes...Checking for sysguard processes...Checking for bad processes...Checking for bad files...Checking for bad registry entries...Resetting filetype association for .exeResetting filetype association for .comResetting userinit and shell values...Resetting policies...--Finished--Trace Rules Database Version: 2869Scan type       : Complete ScanTotal Scan Time : 04:02:44Memory items scanned      : 735Memory threats detected   : 0Registry items scanned    : 7558Registry threats detected : 5File items scanned        : 226198File threats detected     : 1051Trojan.Agent/Gen-Faldesc   [gqhctjia] C:\USERS\HOME\APPDATA\LOCAL\HAITTVVGH\QAWTVCETSSD.EXE   C:\US... I have seen many instances of this being posted and I have the same problem. The only thing I should say is that I literally cannot get anything to run. Meaning I don't have a browser on the infected computer and am typing this from another computer. Please keep this in mind because all of the fixes so far have been instruction to download file "X". I can do this and transfer it via a USB flash drive if that's what you want, but just keep this in mind while giving me directions. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello there.  just yesterday, my laptop acted up and whenever I tried to run any program, a balloon on the bottom would say "Application cannot be executed. The file xxx is infected." and this strange "antivirus software" which i didn't download started to appear and such. It seems that I can't access any web page on Internet Explorer at all since the only thing the page would display is "Internet Explorer Warning - visiting this web site may harm your computer!" So I am currently using firefox on window XP. My firefox is also off and I can't turn it back on because the Avira can't update. I'm really appreciated if anyone can help as soon as possible. Thank you.

Answer:Application cannot be executed. The file xxx is infected.

Hi,This seems to be an issue, due to Virus Infection or a Browser Hijack issue.Suggest you to first disconnect your computer from Internet, then try to run a complete virus scan on your computer if there is a Licensed Antivirus installed on your computer.

Having trouble similar to previous http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php?topic=95177.0 and need help.  Same issue where process cannot be run.  Was able to reboot to safe-mode and complete a scan w/ Sophos client.  It took (4) hours found (3) issues: Kill It, JavaSnd-A, and .  But, upon restart same issues exist. So, I went ahead and downloaded the utilities described in the previous thread: RKill, exeHelper, MBAM, MBAM-rules, HJT, and Super Anti Spyware.  And, per instructions I am waiting to begin the process until I receive machine specific instructions.  FYI, I am running Vista x64 and have Sophos installed.  Waiting for instructions on how to proceed.  Any help is greatly appreciated...-Jeff

Hello, my name is Sara and I'm new to this forum. When I turned on my computer this morning I got these multiple windows telling me "application cannot be executed. The file x is infected", telling me to get protection, every time I close them, it tries to open questionable webpages, it doesn't let me get control of the "tasks window" and it seems to have disabled my antivirus software. Is there anyone out there who could kindly help me?Thanks in advance!Sara

Hello, I am new to this forum, but I was looking at some past issues other users have had, and I was hoping to get some help.  I recently started having some major problems with my computer.  A program called Antivirus Soft keeps popping up saying I have many infected files.  I will not let it scan or delete anything, as I am aware that it isn't legitimate.  But anytime I try to run a program, a window pops up that says "Application cannot be executed. The file *** is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?" I have tried to open Internet Explorer to look for solutions, but when it comes up, it says it wont open the page because it contains malicious content, or some such thing, so I had to use some elses computer to look for help.  It also opens porn and similar sites in Internet Explorer all on its own.  I am running Windows XP Service Pack 2, and Super Antispyware that was up to date as of two weeks ago.  I tried to update super antispyware (I know there is an update available), but it wont let me.  I also tried the same thing in safe mode, but no dice.  Since I can't use Internet Explorer, what can I do??  I really need some intense help here, and am willing to name my firstborn after anyone who can help me fix this issue

Answer:application cannot be executed. the *** file is infected.

By the way, I know this is lame, but I am quite confused about what I must do first to be able to post, and what logs and such are required.  I did read http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,46313.0.html, but again, I'm a bit lost. So if someone would please let me know specifically what information is required, I will post that info asap.  Thanks.

Sorry for such a delay. It seems almost everyone needs help. Please download and run the below tool named Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) which may help allow other programs to run. Save Rkill to your desktop. There are 4 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.  Vista and Win7 users need to right click Rkill and choose Run as Administrator  You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.Rkill.exeRkill.comRkill.scrRkill.pifOnce you've gotten one of them to run then try to immediately run the following. Now download and Run exeHelper. Please download exeHelper from Raktor to your desktop.Double-click on exeHelper.com to run the fix. A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed. A log file named log.txt will be created in the directory where you ran exeHelper.com Attach the log.txt file to your next message.Note: If the window shows a message that says "Error deleting file", please re-run the program before posting a log - and post the two logs together (they will both be in the one file). If this works, please try to run HJT in Normal Mode and send me the log.

Hello all,My computer just got hit by a virus, and I would greatly apprecate any advice you can give me.  Some info:Windows XP Home computer with SP2 or greater.Updated Norton AntivirusI'm typing this from a work laptop because the computer that is infected won't let me do much.  When I boot the computer, I get several "Application cannot be executed.  The file (xxx) is infected.  Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?" messages along with several popups from Antispyware Soft.  I really cannot run any .exe files or much of anything else, and I constantly get popups.  The only time I can run a program or .exe file is in Safe Mode.I did go into Safe Mode, and I was able to run a virus scan and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware but they did not find anything.  I tried to do a system restore but all of my restore points were gone and System Restore was off.  I was unable to access the internet in Safe Mode until I checked that a proxy server setting was on.  I turned it off, and now I can get on the internet but it redirects me to porn or antivirus sites.Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.Jeremy M.

Sorry for the delay, we are busy here on the boards. If you are still having issues, please do the following: Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from here.Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish. If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan. The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient. When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note)Please save the log to a location you will remember. The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the entire report in your next reply.Extra Note:If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

I keep getting these fake antivirus software alerts from what seems like a program i do not even have on my computer. The popups I am getting state "Windows Security Alert. Hi guys! I'm having a terrible time with this virus I've got on my computer. I cannot open any programs other than firefox... well as far as I've seen without a pop up saying "Application cannot be executed the file soandso.exe is infected, do you want to activate your antivirus software?" Clicking no does nothing as does clicking yes. I'm not all that great with computers... obviously or I wouldn't be asking for your help! ;) So if anyone can help me with this I would be so appreciative! Thanks for your time.

Hello,

My computer was attacked last night with some weird trojan/malware. My girlfriend's Mom had the same issue a couple of weeks ago. Could somebody please help, please?

Here are the symptoms:

I can't open any programs (ie iTunes, etc.)
There is this window that keeps telling me to purchase some antivirus software
Porn pages keep popping up
The Security Warning box says: "Application cannot be executed. The file csc.exe is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?"

That's about it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. :o)

So basically today I went on some random website (meebo.com) that I regularly use to chat. A few moments after that, some virus scanner comes up and begins to scan my computer. I quickly close it because I know it's probably some Spyware... but I think it was too late. Soon after all this other "antivirus" software began to start scanning on my computer and I quickly closed them all. But now about every four or five seconds a windows "Security Warning" pops up on my computer and tells me that I cannot execute an application--usually it's "wuauclt.exe" And an Antivirus software alert also pops up on the bottom right hand of my screen telling me that a trojan is attempting to infect my computer. Also, internet explorer windows pop up every couple of minutes attempting to open up viagra or other porno websites.

I've seen the rules for creating posts, but I absolutely cannot open any sort of application on my computer because every time I try to open an app, Security Warnings pop up on my computer telling me the application is infected and cannot be opened. I've already tried opening up Safe Mode and doing a virus scan there to no avail--hell I can't even open up minesweeper.

Please help. I use this computer to work and this is incredibly inconvenient.

Hello there, my name is Elliot and I am running a relatively high powered laptop on Windows Vista. Recently I have had an issue, by which every time I go to open an application - other than Mozilla Firefox(?!) - it tells me that "Application cannot be executed. The file (programshortname).exe is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?". I then am greeted by a "Windows Security Alert" balloon, that reminds me that the computer is infected. Further, I then get a "Antivirus software alert" from a program I have, for a fact, never installed called Security Suite that tells me of an Infiltration Alert, and alleged 'details' of it such as the IP I am being attacked from and a port number. Furthermore, I receive another Antivirus Software Alert from the same program I have never installed in the center of the screen, headed in "vunerabilities found." Then, rather weirdly, if I leave it long enough without closing these "security alerts" I am brought to an ADULT website, I pray you understand. Please help me to fix my computer, I am desperate! Thanks,Elliot

Hi all,My PC has been infected by some serious trojan or virus. Whenever I try to open up any application, it flashes me a virus alert saying that " Application cannot be executed. The file pctsTray.exe is infected" . I'm unable to open any application from wordpad to photos.I google'd and searched the forum for solutions. But none of them helped. Superdave in the past has helped some guys and has been helping some other guys regarding the same error ( below are the links). But since he has mentioned that the fixes are specific to the problem and should not be used for other issues, I want to take precautions in doing the same. I would highly appreciate if someone can help me on this issue.  http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,115809.0.htmlhttp://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,95177.0.html

I can't seem to open the malware software I have so have to run it in safe mode, it finds lots of stuff but the problem is still there when I restart in normal mode. I'm not particularly computer savvy so that might not help. So I guess I'm just waiting for a Specialit to help me...I'd really appreciate it!!

I got some kind of virus that would not let me access Task Manager, nor would it let me start up in safemode with f8 at boot. It kept a small red dot with a white X on my system process bar and constantly asked me to download antispyware. It also sucked my computer to a standstill. I couldnt access the internet on the computer because it was at 100% in processes. So I went into msconfig inside windows and set my boot to diagnostic so I could get into safemode. But i couldnt get onto the internet from there nor could i use my usb ports to transfer files. So i downloaded the GMER scan file and the Combofix scan file onto a usb chip from another computer and rebooted into normal mode and drug the two files onto my desktop then went back to msconfig and got into safe mode again. This is the only way i could scan anything because of the performance. the gmer scan still took 3 hours and the text file is attached. then i tried the combofix scan but couldnt install the resolution console because i couldnt access the internet. so i perfomed the scan anyway. it also took 3 hours and rebooted several times on its own. this text file is also attached. now my computer is almost fixed. it boots fine, accesses task manager, doesn't have popups but...it is still running at 100%. thru task mgr i found two files using 50% each. they are "Transferagent.exe" and "IntuitsyncManager.exe". once i stop these processes everything is fine until i reboot. this one seems nasty. i've eradicated bad viruses before, altho i'm an amature and mostly guessing, but i sense i'm out of my depth on this one.

wxp. i think it's sp2. i have never run windows update (i know, bad, bad boy, but i cringe at giving my computer over to m$). hp pavilion a720n.

it started while my family member was using emule. this was emule installed about 4 yrs ago, and it was not opening any files retrieved via emule, just searching and transferring w/ emule.

there is a new system tray icon, blue with a wide white stripe from lower left to upper right. upper left is pointy blue. tool tip over it says "anitvirus live". i think this is part of the problem.

this icon keeps popping up with this text in its bubble:

"(X) Windows Security alert Windows reports that computer is infected. Antivirus software helps to protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. Click here for the scan you computer. Your system might be at risk now."

notice the bad English "for the scan you computer" :)

i can not run anything. control panel will not run. start->run explorer does not start.

i disconnected the ethernet cable. it does not have wireless. i have not rebooted, so have not tried safe mode yet. figured i'd check here before rebooting.

i do have the C: drive shared on other computers, so i was able to dl dds.scr and gmer.zip to another computer, and place them on the infected desktop ... Read more

Yes i turned my bitdefender firewall off for a couple of days and all of a sudden i started getting a lot of pop ups with that message and some anti-virus software that kept popping up. It was weird seeing as i didn't click on anything suspicious but who knows. I have run the rkill, superantispayware, malwarebytes, and hijack this. I just need someone to look at my logs and help me determine what needs to be taken out. Any help would be awesome and thank you so much in advance. PS. it was hard for a little bit to get the programs to stay open long enough to install and for rkill to stay open long enough to run, but i was able to stop the bogus messages and just need somepne to look at my logs. I am currently running on a Window 7 Sony VAIO laptop. Recently I just got a this message while reading on IE stating that "Application cannot be executed. The file ------- (NAME) is infected." This has occured once about 4 months ago, but I managed to download "Spybot - Search and Destory" and after running the scan in safe mode, the problem was fixed. Then again, this is happening again. I did the exact same steps running the "Spybot - Search and Destroy" and the problem was not removed. It could not detect anything. I also installed the SpyHunter, Mal warebytes' Anti-Melware, and SH Downloader but nothing seems to work. There was also constant pop ups that leads to inappropriate websites. If it was possible, please give a reply to this post. I am not very good with laptops, but I will try to provide all the information it takes to fix the problem.

Hello all

First time here so please bear with me. I am trying to fix a friend's Vista laptop. When booted up shortly after it receives the following popup (in the middle of the screen):

Security Warning: Application cannot be executed. The file xxx is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?

In the bottom right of the screen above the system tray two more popups. 1) same as above 2) Antivirus software alert stating "your computer is being attacked by an internet virus. It could be a password-stealing attack, a trojan - dropper or similar. Details: attack from IP-address xxx, port 60552. Attacked port: 55557. Threat BankerFox.a Do you want to block this attack.

In normal windows mode, nothing can be done (well minimal). I can't get any webpage to load. However, if I let the above messages stay up, shortly after tons of web page windows will come up - all with various porn/viagra sites.

This laptop does have an OLD version of Kaspersky security suite. I tried to manually update the definitions but it wouldn't let me (I believe because the trial version it was on expired). I tried to remove Kaspersky but nothing happens when I try. I can't pull up task manager.

I can get into Safe mode and don't receive all these popups, but not alot I can do in safe mode. I can't remove Kaspersky there, says I must do in normal mode.

I did download Microsoft Malware tool on a thumb drive from another computer and run it... Read more

Hi,I got a very serious issue with my system. Somehow some malware or virus has affected my system. It keeps flashing me virus alert and whenever i try to run any program it says "Application cannot be executed. The file  **** is infected......." (not even a command prompt or notepad can be opened but with multiple try sometime i get the command prompt but it is ridiculous). Before looking into this forum i tried Installing MBAM - Malware byte in normal mode, but it blocks it from installing even if I try to rename it before downloading. Then I google'd and searched this forums and tried the instructions a couple links. The Superantispyware is not getting installed at all. I get the installer screen and quickly it vanishes before i can access anything. i tried renaming it with .SCR instead of .exe but still same issue.  I did luck out and succeed in installing hijackthis under the name iexplore.exe. Also my avast program found nothing after a full scan. Please help!

Hi, I'm having a virus problem on my computer, I am constantly receiving a pop-up which reads:"Application cannot be executed. The file wuauclt.exe is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?"Whenever I run my antivirus, a demo for Windows Live antivirus runs. It won't let me delete the material it finds without spending $50 on the software. I cannot uninstall the program or shut it down because the "Add & Remove Programs" program is blocked and I receive the same message as above. I cannot access the internet because the antivirus demo blocks me from accessing the internet, stating the internet could be "infected". I cannot access any programs or install any free antivirus programs (by using .exe files) without them being blocked. What can I do do get rid of this?? PLEASE HELP!Thanks!

Answer:Application cannot be executed. the file ** is infected.

Download a boot time anti virus scanner (pick one: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rlz=1T4GGLL_enUS304US305&ei=WHFCS-DZLMW8lAeTsP2fBw&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&ved=0CAYQBSgA&q=download+boot+time+av+scanner&spell=1). Burn it to a cd and put the cd in the infected computer. Make sure the cd is at the top of the boot order in bios, then boot to the cd and run the scan.                                               orHello and welcome to Computer Hope Forum. The first thing I will need you to do is to go to this  http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,46313.0.html and follow the directions precisely. You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line. If you can't run any step, just jump to the next one. Please let me know how you are doing or have any questions. Initially, We will need the SuperAntiS... Read more

Long story short: I started noticing that everytime I had opened Google Chrome, my RAM usage would go up pretty high. Then I checked the Task Manager, and even though I had only 5 tabs opened (3 pinned tabs, 2 normal tabs) the Task Manager was showing 15 tasks from Google Chrome. Then I posted this problem to a forum and the admin suggested me to clear cookies and download this program called Advanced SystemCare (I think [already uninstalled]) but I went after the Pro version (thinking it would be better) but I downloaded from somewhere else. The bottom line, I got infected.Symptoms: For some reason, I felt like running a full scan of my system with my antivirus program Norton Internet Security 2011. All of a sudden I started getting all these pop-ups offering me to buy an antivirus program (fake). I mean, it's like all the pop-up appears because of my antivirus running a full scan. The program I downloaded was the day before I ran the full scan. Anyways, since this morning I've been getting this annoying pop-ups. I already boot in Safe Mode, ran a full scan with both Norton Internet Security 2011 and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.Both programs reported viruses, 5 and 13 respectivaly, and both said that they fixed those problems. However, when I boot in normal mode .. the pop-ups reappeared.I've tried to run log scans so I could post them here and you guys could take a look at them but I can start any .exe program.Already tried executing rkill as suggested he... Hi, I have a big problem with my computer. There's this box that keeps popping out saying "application cannot be executed. the file ****.exe is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?"  I didn't know that I'm not supposed to shut my comp down and I shut it down. Also, there's another pop up on the bottom right corner saying "inflitration alert. Your computer is being attacked by an internet virus. It could be a password-stealing attack, a trojan-dropper or similar. Details: attack from 130.101.63.240, port 14404. Attacked port: 12315. Threat: win32/nugel.E do you want to block this attack." When I turn it on the next day, it's still there. I had malwarebytes anti-malware before but  it was blocked by the virus. I even tried downloading other anti virus like avg , rkill and doctorspyware but they were blocked too. I am now running my computer in safe mode and performing the full scan using malwarebytes. How do i run as administrator? I do not see it when i right-click rkill. Please assist me. Many thanks.

I have a fairly new computer and today it started giving me  a virus alert and whenever i try to run any program it says "Application cannot be executed. The file  **** is infected......."  I saw a post with this same issue and tried to download Rkill, but it's giving me that same error right at the end of the download.  I cannot run any programs or installed software.  All I get is the same error with a different file name in place of the **** stated above.  Please please please can someone help??Oh.. also, the error is popping up randomly, not just when I try to open a program.I just realized that I might have posted this in the wrong section.  Here is the link to the post that I found related to my issue.  http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php?topic=95177.0

UPDATE:I don't know if this hurt me or helped me, but I restarted my computer, did a system restore to a previous time, entered into safe mode, and then restarted normally.  I'm not having quite as bad of a problem, but at the same time, I don't think that got rid of the virus that was causing this.

Approx 3 days ago I managed to aquire this dastardly virus which prompted me to use this antivirus software.  I did not however accept to the terms and have tried to fix it.  I somehow managed to do a system restore to a previous day (4/27) and it seems to be back to normal.  However should I check any registry files or log files from any of the other topics of the same question?  Please advise when you have a chance.  This is my gaming PC so if necessary I can afford to do a complete format.

I need help please. I have a virus that seems to be really similar to other ones that have been posted on here. I keep getting popups that are saying that the application cannot be executed. The file ... (it keeps changing one example is cltlmh.exe) is infected. Then it asks me if I want to activate my antivirus software now. Also new windows keep popping up for adult websites using Internet explorer, which I never use because I always use Mozilla. Other popups that I am getting are saying that my computer is infected with 34 serious treats or viruses and all are asking me to use different spyware or antivirus software. I have tried running my Norton antivirus as well as my windows defender. I have done quick scans as well as complete scans and both end with the result that nothing is found. Please help! What can I do to fix my computer. Thank you sooo much!

Answer:Application cannot be executed. The file...is infected.

I just ran a full scan again using my Windows defender. It was able to recognize a virus. It listed as a Trojan:Win32/FakeSpypro. It also listed that it was able to successfully remove it and my computer is running normally. The main popup went away and I was able to get out of the other popups that were on my screen and they haven't come back yet. Should I trust it or are there other things that I should do to make sure that my computer is virus-free?

Good afternoon:My parents computer is having this message appear whenever they try to launch any application - IE, malwarebytes, superantispyware, task manager, etc. They had this problem back in November and somehow we managed to get stuff to run back then but no luck now. To be honest, we may have just masked the problem then.Just to make things even more challenging I can't get the comptuer to boot into safe mode. It gets to a certain point and then reboots. The computer is Windows XP SP3.I see there are various threads with a similar title and people are instructed to use something called Rkill. I want to make sure that's the proper procedure for them as well. If that is the case, I'm assuming you now when a version worked because no error box comes up right?I did have my father try to open My Computer and then C drive and that worked so in theory he should be able to download files from his laptop and then use them on the infected machine.Thank you for all of your assistance,Chris

I was stupidly downloading music and I must have come to some site that gave me a virus. I'm not TOO familiar with computers really. Any help would be very appreciated. This (possible) virus is really making me angry. Is there something maybe I could do easily, because I'm at a point where I probably got the virus about five minutes before I got on this board. Is there a way to "quickly destroy" this virus? Thanks in advance.

I am entirely new to this forum, please forgive me if I am a little dense at times.I have a Toshiba laptop, running Windows 7. Suddenly today, a "Security Warning" appeared saying "Application cannot be executed. The file ____.exe (I can't remember which file it was first) is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?" A "Windows Secuirty Alert" box then came up in the taskbar, saying "Windows reports that computer is infected. Antivirus software helps to protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. Click here for the scan your computer. Your system might be at risk now." "Security Suite" then opened, and appeared to be performing a scan, detecting hundreds of threats and asking me to purchase the removal software.Microsoft Security Essentials then reported detecting 12 or so threats, which I removed. I can only access MSE in safe mode. The history shows that the following threats were removed:PWS:Win32/Zbot.gen!YTrojan:Win32/NeopRogue:Win32/FakeYakTrojanDropper:Win32/Bamital.CTrojan:Win32/Hiloti.gen!DTrojan:Win32/Ertfor.AHowever, when I restart my computer in normal mode every application is said to be infected, the taskbar alert comes up and the Security Suite opens. I tried to do a System Restore in safe mode, it failed. Scans in safe mode report no threats.I cannot access the internet as all the browser applications are "infected". I think this is a case of rog... Read more

I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line. Please try this in Safe Mode with Networking.
