Cannot get past "Error InstalShield Scripting Runtime" When reinstalling game

Question: Cannot get past "Error InstalShield Scripting Runtime" When reinstalling game

Last winter I reformatted my HD and re-installed Windows 7 (64 bit). At that time I lost my Flight simulator game that I enjoyed a lot. Lately I tried to re-install my Flight Simulator game but I get the message "Error InstallShield Runtime". Is there a quick fix to this?

Preferred Solution: Cannot get past "Error InstalShield Scripting Runtime" When reinstalling game

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Cannot get past "Error InstalShield Scripting Runtime" When reinstalling game

What is the exact game you are installing to check on its compatibility? Is this an installation from Disc or a download off the internet?

Answer:"1607: Unable to install InstallShield scripting runtime" Help :/

It sounds like you didn't get a fully accurate install because you skipped the second CD. It's been a while since I installed MCE, but you were supposed to boot from the first CD, and then it will prompt for disc 2. Before it completes, I think it asks for disc 1 again.

Since this is a fresh build, I would start over and re-install again. This time, when it asks you for the CD, put disc 1 back in. It's very well documented on the web that the names given during the install process aren't that clear as to which disc it's asking for.

There was a thread on this some time back, (now expired) with some suggestions, which I tried. None worked.

Any kind soul out there with suggestions of where I should be going from here?

The subject message pops up any time I attempt to open my IE8 browser using Windows XP and set to my home page "ATT.Yahoo". When I click "OK" in the message, IE closes and tries to recover, but with the same results each time. I know
there is a method to reset IE9, but can't tell if it also pertains to IE8 since it can't be opened.

Answer:"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" "Runtime Error! Program: C:Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

the first step in troubleshooting IE issues is to test in noAddons Mode. - download and install the latest IE compatible version of the Google Toolbar.
for consumer help with IE select the Help>Online Support menu from IE and follow the prompts for your windows and IE versions. thx.Rob^_^

Hello, I got a BSOD while playing a game last night. After restarting my computer and getting past the
"starting windows" screen I got a consistent BSOD immediately after; I am currently forced to use safe mode.

Some computer specs:
Video card: Nvidia GTX 460
OS: Windows 7
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 820 Processor 2.80 GHz

Here's the BSOD info:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7601.
Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: 116
BCP1: FFFFFA8009634010

BCP4: 0000000000000002
OS Version: 6_1_7601
Service Pack: 1_0
Product: 768_1

Thinking it was a graphics card driver issue, I rolled back but still got a similar error:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen

I've attached logs of the dump files. I plan on putting in an older graphics card and seeing if I can get my computer to start, but I thought I'd post here first.

Answer:BSOD during game; can't get past "starting windows" anymore

You are correct in that the dumps are blaming your NVidia gfx drivers for the crash, first step would be to uninstall/reinstall the latest drivers using DDU or driver sweeper to clear out

If it still fails try the same again using an older version, if it still fails try your other gpu

Hey folks:

Don't know exactly what caused it but am now getting the "iexplore.exe" application error message referencing "unknown software" at location 0x77e73887, followed by the "Runtime error 217" at 009BD242. To avoid getting it at startup, I disabled or removed some startup programs (i.e. Sygate PF, KeyWallet, PopUp Stopper). But it just happens later on. For example, I clicked on Stevehp's link to "reveal secret to his PC's awesome power" and it immediately opened the link AND the same darn "iexplore.exe" and "Runtime 217" sequence.

I extracted a fresh copy of "iexplore.exe" to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer, to no avail. I installed Visual Basic 6.5 Runtime files from Microsoft's VB support site, to no avail. I have performed myriad other system and registry maintenance tasks, but am getting nowhere.

Any ideas? I will appreciate any suggestion whatsoever!

My OS is, of course, WindowsXP SP1 (Build 2600.xpsp1.020828-1920).

Hi Everyone,

A colleague of mine "Mary" is getting a scripting error in her Inbox whenever she looks at emails from one specific staff member, "Jill". Jill is a genuine sender, the messages that she sends do not get moved into Mary's junk, and the content of the emails is business related (e.g.: not funnies, etc).

Mary is using a Windows 7 Professional (64 bit) box with Office Outlook 2010 (32 bit) installed. Additionally she is using Office 365, so emails are being sent / received from the "cloud". I don't think that the cloud itself is the issue, and Mary can open emails from all other staff members, and customers (literally hundreds of different senders) without issue.

I requested that Jill send the same emails through to me in the hope that I could replicate the issue on my computer - however upon receiving the emails I did not see a scripting error. This is quite puzzling and leads me to believe that the issue is on Mary's computer - however it is conceivable that it is a combination of settings on both Mary's & Jill's computers!!!

At any rate here is a screen shot of the scripting error:

Image of Scripting Error

It has been given to me on good authority that the issue is likely one of the Outlook plug-ins, however with literally tens of plug-ins installed I don't want to take "a stab in the dark" and make the situation worse.

If anybody has any suggestions on how to fix this issue they will be greatly appr... Read more

Sounds more like a Software Forum disussion item to me. You may need to uninstall, reboot and reinstall Norton Systemworks.

Is there a particular reason that you think this is related to malware?

I ran into this problem about 2 months ago and did everything I could think of to resolve it - i.e. reinstalled AOL, deleted old versions, ran Spybot, antivirus, etc. to no avail. Then it just mysteriously cleared itself up! I don't know what I did since after all that, I still got the error message everytime I tried to start up AOL. Then in trying it one day, it just worked! Well, I had a feeling that wouldn't last. It didn't. Just 2 days ago, the same thing happened again - trying to start AOL and getting, "Visual Basic C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error! Program: C:\PROGRA~1\AOL9~1.0\woal.exe". "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more information."

I don't use AOL that much anymore but had many emails stored on the "save on my PC" label in AOL and would like to retrieve them if nothing else. I can do without using AOL if I have to but would like to continue using it if possible. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

I have seen the fix for IE on another thread - remove the Google or Yahoo toolbars but I guess that is not what's causing the problem here. Please help, this is driving me crazy!

Just re-discovered this forum!

Can anyone help?
I've just bought the newest Nero and Blu-ray/HD-DVD Plug-in but when it tries to transcode videos I get an error (below). I've searched the net and plenty of people get it in all sorts of different programmes on the PC. There's even a MS hotfix for it but it only works for XP (they sent me the link to do it). Anyone know what I can do to prevent it as the software is currently useless and their tech support haven't responded for 2 weeks.

the error that pops up:

Microsoft visual basic c++ runtime library

Runtime Error!

program: C:\location of the programmes exe file

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.
any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit with all updates and my system spec is well above the minimum for the software

on another forum I was told that uninstalling, rebooting and then reinstalling my ATI drivers & software will do it as that installs the Visual C++ stuff but it hasn't worked. Last night I re-installed .net framework 1.1 (with sp1) and I also downloaded & installed C++ Runtime Libraries (2005) from the MS site but it still doesn't work)

I'm now completely stumped and getting desperate but really don't want to have to re-install Vista if I don't need to

I get this error message all the time including tonight.

"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library"
"Runtime Error!
"Program: C:\Program Files/ America Online/waol.exe
" - pure virtual function call"

The message pops up out of nowhere. It has a red X in the corner. I always get it when I'm using AOL (8.0). I get the error message, AOL freezes, as well as magnifier, which I usually have open. When I click OK, AOL closes and magnifier stays frozen. I click control+alt+delete, go to processes, and end the task of waol.exe. Then magnifier usually goes back to normal. I always lose everything that's open in AOL. This is very frustrating. I tried increasing the virtual memory, but that obviously hasn't helped. This actually happened a little while ago and I don't want to click OK because I would be losing some very important information that would be a huge hassle to redo. Please, can anyone help me? I don't want this to happen anymore. Thanks.

first check for malware/virus infections
your internet access could be broken
i would also reinstall aol--
uninstall all versions from your add/remove software in the control panel first.

Hello there~

Recently, I have encountered a number of rather disturbing problems with my Computer(Windows XP).

With a number of programs, such as CCleaner, SuperAntiSpyware, WinDS Pro, MyDefrag etc. etc.... I got an Error... R6002 - floating point support not loaded. Usually. The Error either appeared when I start the program or when I do something with the program~ For example, CCleaner only got this Error after ending a system cleaning, thus closing. MyDefrag gets the problem all the time but it can be ignored - the program works completely fine.
I tried several things to get rid of the error - checking my registry with different programs, using a multitute of antivirus programs, deinstalling and/or reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++, reinstalling all the affected programs... To no avail - nothing has helped in the least bit.
But while trying to figure this problem out, I encountered another rather disturbing problem: Some of my downloads just won't finish. For example, if I try to download CCleaner from ANY site, no matter which, the download will either always stop at the last missing bytes, dropping to 0 kbps and doing nothing, or the download has 0kbps from the start. I tried a number of things, like restarting the computer, cancelling the download and restarting it... to no avail, once again. The only thing that worked is: Downloading a downloader for the program, like it is always the case on softonic or the likes. By downloading a downloader first, it someti... Read more

The file npswf32.dll is for Flash, but my copy is named npswf32_11_6_602_180.dll & dated 3-12-2013

errors like "floating point support not loaded" are created in two ways:
1) the floating point library can not be found
2) the program attempting to load it is not the correct version for your hardware platform.

Your system integrity is questionable (ie likely to be infected), but I would first investigate the Eventlog using Eventvwr.msc and look for errors in the System Log.

Highly recommend you run SFC /SCANNOW (but you will need your install CD or to borrow one from a friend - - it must match your currently installed system).

I really hope some one can help me with this. I have tried everything I know. Everytime I go to shut down or even log off, this error pops up. I press return, and it carries on as normal but its just really annoying.

I have tried reinstalling XP service patch 2, scanning for missing windows files, looked at the leven manager but it tells me nothing, looked at task manager nut there are no running applications, tried resitry cleaning tools, disabled erro reporting.....but nothing has worked.

I think...think...this may have happened after a virus was found on my pc and I chose delete but since then, I have deleted the anti virus program and used another one.

Does any one know, how I can either turn off the message or better still track what file its trying to find. Any help would be most appreciaed.

Um... if this were a medical advice site, this is what I just read:

"I get a popping noise every time I bend. Do you know what that is?". At least in the title you mentioned that you were human. No mention of what you were bending, in which way you were bending, whether you know if you are double jointed, etc...
So... let us fill in some gaps:

1) What program are you trying to run?
2) When do you get the error?
3) If the program used to run correctly, what have you added since then?
4) Have you changed any settings, or installed any programs/updates since it was working properly?
5) What is the title of the error box?
6) What is the exact text of the error?

Windows Defender, Unible PowerSuite (SpeedUpMyPC, Registry Booster & Spyware Protector) and Norton's One Button Checkup and WinDoctor.

Not sure if it's related, but my DISPLAY is locked at 640 X 480.

Atempted the 5 Step Process before posting and Panda ActiveScan froze and crashed after scanning 59253 files, but not before identifying 28 spyware files.

Here's my extra.txt log from Deckard's:

I have a new HP 4530s. I was opening an excel sheet and the system froze: the cursor is frozen also. A box reads "Just In-Time Debugging" exception "Runtime Error has occurred in script. However, no debuggers are registered that can debug this exception. Unable to JIT debug." It gives the option to hit "okay", but my cursor is frozen. Help! (I'm on another laptop writing this).

I am having an incredibly hard time with a couple of computers running XP (32 & 64) at different locations and I suspect from the symptoms that there may be a really DEEP malware infestation that survives reinstalling the OS.

Using MWB as a first move is usually recommended, though there are supposedly countermeasures used against MWB. When I downloaded the installer today and used it on one of these machines with a clean OS installation, I got the error in the title, though the program appeared to install and load. I uninstalled and reinstalled with the same result

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks for any help!

Answer:MWB "Runtime Error (at 58:205) Could Not Call Proc."

Are you still having this problem? If so, are both computers connected to the same router? Also, can you tell me what symptoms you're getting.

On both systems, can you run the following. Just call them computer 1 and 2, so we can work on each easily

Download OTL to your Desktop
(Vista or Win 7 => right click and Run As Administrator)
Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Standard Output.
At the top, check the box entitled Scan All Users
Toward the bottom, check:
LOP Check
Purity Check
Under the Standard Registry box change it to All
Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so.
It should look like this:

Please copy the text in the code box below and paste it in the Custom Scans/Fixes box in OTL:

%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\*.exe
%windir%\system32\tasks\*.* /64
%systemroot%\*. /mp /s

Periodically, I get a popup on my desktop that says:

A Runtime Error has occured.
Do you wish to debug?

Error: '' is null or not an object

Yes No

When I click "Yes":

- "Just In Time Debugging" pops up
- I click the only possible debugger, "New instance of Microsoft Script Editor"
- I click yes
- "Step Into Remote Procedure Call" pops up in a Word-ish program
- I choose "Script" to debug
- The process is "[3220] C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe"
- I click "Ok"
- "Microsoft Visual Design Studio" pops up
- It says: "Microsoft JScript runtime error: '' is null or not an object
- I have a choice of Break, Continue, or Help
- Help is useless
- Continue makes it pop up again
- Break lets me edit the text
- The line is:
elm[0] = "none";
- The whole script is:

Welcome to Major Geeks!

My first impression is that this is not a problem for the Malware Forum. it looks more like a JavaScript for some site you access ( like ) However to make sure that it is not malware, you will have to run the below. Your other choice is to post in the Software Forum.

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.

Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
If you run into problems trying to run theREAD & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

Help, if you can,

I am attempting to remove a runtime error 53 message that appears during startup on a Dell machine running XP. No new software has been installed. The only thing that has changed was that McAfee found a virus and removed it, since then the error has been coming up. One more thing - in the top blue margin of the error message, the word "sex" appears.
I have followed the recommendations of other posts and run adaware, spybot, Ace Utilities and have also run a report with Hijack This. Although I have deleted many inconsistencies, I have been unable to get rid of the error message.
Here is the log from Hijack.

My windows won't start and I got an error message "Unable to Locate Component. dwmapi.dll was not found Reinstalling may fix this problem"
I am not good with computer stuff. I tried fixing the problem running recovery disks but the windows still won't start up and the same error message still appears.
I don't remember installing any programs prior to receiving this msg. If this may be caused by spyware/virus type of sort, please also advise on how to fix this problem.
Thanks in advance.

I am trying to install a math tutorial CD that goes to a stats textbook but when I try to install it gives me the following error:

Run-time error 339:
Component 'RMOC3260.dll" or one of it's dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.

The program works fine on our other computer but I just upgraded to Vists Ultimate 64 on this new machine and it seems to be havving issues. The file 'rmco3260.dll' says that it is a Real Player Active X control on the intall disk if that helps any. I have tried searching for error 339 issues and have tried creating a non-administrator user account and installing on that instead; no joy. I tried manually instaling the file in the system folder using 'regsvr32' in the cmd prompt and it said the file may not be compatable with my operating system. Every diagnostic tool I find seems to only work on 32 bit OSs.

Any insight? Thanks

What do I need in order to fix this problem? This pop-up message appears when I patched my game

Answer:Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error" error message

According to the error message the application (the patch you installed) isn't working right and for you to contact the folks who made the patch. I'm guessing that would be the support team for Audition Dance Battle or perhaps the support folks for all of

::E-Games - Audition Dance Battle::

E-Games Portal

Let them know exactly what the error message says, the specific ID number for the patch you installed, specific info about your computer (make, model, version of Windows you're using, amount of RAM, CPU, etc) so they can figure out what's wrong. In the meantime, you could try uninstalling the patch while waiting for a response. Sorry I can't be more help.

Hello everyone, I have been trying to use this game modding application that keeps giving me an error on my machines, everyone else seems to be able to run it fine, I'm not quite sure if its a file I'm missing? Or if the application isn't working correctly because I'm missing something... The BSOD only crashed when running Battlefield: Bad Company 2, usually about 20 minutes into the game. This has only started happening in the last week. Before that, I could play this game for hours without a problem.

I previously overclocked it, but returned it to factory settings just to be sure. I was monitoring the core temps the very moment the most recent BSOD happened, and they maxed at about 60.

First off, your BSODs look remarkably like the ones here: BSOD while playing BFBC2 - Windows 7 Forums

So much so, in fact, that I wonder if PnkBstrB.exe is truly the offending process. See if you can find an updated version of the anti-hacking program. I don't know the game myself, but the guys on SevenForums are discussing PunkBuster more; I suggest you follow their conversation and do what they do.

Joy.cpl opens fine, and each device has "OK" next to it, but when I attempt to click "properties," no worky. Says "Necessary support files not found." I think this may have to do with my monkeying with DirectX, as 9.0c screwed over my joystick's compatibility with X-Wing Alliance, and I used a utility to uninstall it forcibly. I then proceeded to attempt reinstalls with 8.0 and 7.0, but neither worked. Now, after reinstalling 9.0c, the properties button remains unavailable, the joystick -still- doesn't work in X-Wing Alliance, and it's becoming very frustrating. I don't have my Windows 2000 cd as it is in CO with my dad--I do have a full copy on the hard drive, however. Both input devices worked before--one is a usb and one is a serial port. Essentially dxdiag tells me everything is fine regarding inputs, though dsound is apparently an older version, and ddrawex.dll was missing until I copied it back in from a source online. How can I, in order of importance:

A) Return the Properties button to normal functioning
B) Get X-Wing Alliance's aging software to detect my version of DirectX enough to recognize my joystick?

The basic problem with X-Wing isn't appropriate for this forum, natch, but apparently its joystick recognition interface is tied to an outdated dxdiag, and the "configure input" button results in a command to install DirectX 6.1--this didn't happen before with previous versions of DirectX,... I recently bought an old gameport flight control system off eBay for use in flight sims. When I click on the "Add..." button at the game controllers control panel, I get one of those Send Error Report messages. Since I've only had to deal with plug&play USB controllers in the past, I've never had to manually add a controller so I don't know how long this problem has existed on my system. I've tried expanding rundll32 from the WinXP CD into my system32 folder, and I've taken all the steps in the "READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide". I've searched the internet, but the only results I've found deal with rundll errors while running System Restore. I'm running WinXP Pro SP2 on a homebuild P4. Below I will post some of the details from the error message, and I will also attach the logs from AVG anti-virus, BitDefender, Panda ActiveScan, runkeys, newfiles, and HiJackThis. If any can help me or has any ideas, I would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance.

My specifications:

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1

AMD Phenom II X4 955 -- 55-60?C when gaming

4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz

MSI 870A-G54 (MS-7599) (CPU1)

767MB GeForce GTX 460 (MSI) -- 40-72?C when gaming (depends on game)

466GB Seagate ST3500418AS ATA Device (SATA)

This freeze occurs in any game I play. I recently had a problem with my system overheating, the CPU reaching max temperatures (65?C), but I fixed that by vaccuuming the insides of the computer, particularly the fans. No game gives an error message except Guild Wars 2, which only mentions an "unrecoverable driver error". I can't give you the exact error message as of this moment because I have to play for a while before it happens. I'll update this thread as soon as I get the error message again.

I should also note that sometimes the system recovers, resulting in a black screen for a few seconds and then the game starts up again. This at least doesn't mean that the system is tired, because this happened once in Guild Wars 2 (and recovered) and then I kept playing for many hours more.

I hope I've given you sufficient information. Let me know if I haven't.

Answer:Freezing during a game -- "unrecoverable driver error"

sounds like a video driver issue. Have you tried downloading and installing the latest driver?

This is getting to be a real pain. I bougth the "Return of the Kings" last year and this year "Doom 3" and both give me the same problem. They load perfectly okay and even auto start the opening menu when I put CD1 into the drive but when I hit play I get the same message that it can not find disk 1. I have a DVD RW and CD-ROM drive and it works in neither. I have messed around with the Master/Slave setting on each and have even tried removing one then the other just to see if that worked.

I am running XP on an Athlom +2600 with NEC DVD and Lite-On CD-ROM

Answer:"Can Not Find Disk 1" error when starting game

Sometimes games are mislabeled - have you tried the other discs in the sets to see if they work instead?

Also, this normally occurs when the copy protection is kicking in; your games may be misreading your discs in some way due to the hardware and thinking it's actually an illegal copy. Both of these games use Safedisc V3 as the copy protection, so it may be your drives are incompatible with the software. This only happens a very limited amount of the time, and if you have a proof of purchase the company often sends a copy out to you with no protection. Many companies accept the original discs as valid proof of purchase.

Hi guys, first off I haven't been here for help in years literally this was the first place I thought of because a few years ago many generous people helped me solve my problem, this place is awesome. Please pardon me as I am only decently literate with computers but try my best.

Ok I am trying to solve an annoying problem for my parent's computer. My dad was typing a normal document in Microsoft Word (OS is XP with System Pack 2, and it is Word 2002) and he said that just yesterday for the first time, after typing for maybe a half hour, a window would pop up with a "runtime error" and it would freeze untill he clicked ok on it, and it would then shut down loosing all his work that he didn't save.

So I got on the computer and opened Microsoft Word, and was able to duplicate the problem time after time but not every single time. When I simply open word, then click to close Word, the box appears, and he verified it is the same box he saw. It says exactly as follows, no more, no less, and every time reads the same -

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program:C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 10\WINWORD.EXE
abnormal program termination

So I tried to research it, and came across a fix on Microsoft's support site saying remove something called COM Add-ins. I did so by following each step removing the one COM add in i found, and it did not resolve the problem at all. It still errors out. SO I grabbed the master disk and un... Read more

Answer:Solved: Microsoft Word keeps throwing up "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" Error, Arghh!

First, welcome back!!! (although, vaguely, it's like seeing your cousin after many years at a funeral...nice to see you, sorry about the circumstances....)
Well, this isn't fun - the more I looked, the more "answers" and causes I found...;en-us;835404
(I think you probably did what the above is about - COM add-ins)
and two that seem similar, but aren't the same (good ol' MS!)

Good luck and let us know if you get this fixed - and what did it!

I use an auction building/submitting program called "auctionsubmit". Just did yet ANOTHER category update to keep up with eBay's unending quest to drive everyone crazy. Program was working fine prior to the update. Now I can open it but can't use some of the functions such as the "extra" option where you would select a second category or gallery pictures. I get a "runtime error 200". Can someone PLEASE tell me how to fix this?

Hello out there;

I am not quite sure where this is being generated from and I do not know how to shut it off or make it quite doing this. I have installed Microsoft office 2000 premium on my computer, which has Front page. I have installed the entire program. Since I have done this it appears that every time there is an error on a webpage that My computer now tells me. "Error: A Runtime error has occured. Do you wish to debug?" then it tells of the error. " Line: 1 Error: syntax". I of course have 2 options, I have said yes on an occation or 2 and find that some unkown to me program opens called Microsoft Environment Editor or debugger. I fished around in this program for a few minutes and must have inadvertantly changed something, cause now When I click yes this program does not open, However I would like for this program to stop asking me if I want to fix these websites.
Does anyone know what is going on with this, and how I can stop it or correct it?

Thank you

Question: Runtime error "91"

Wife uses drug reference program in medical transcription. All of a sudden program is giving: runtime error "91" :" Object variable or width black variable not set. "

I can get the program to load in safe mode, but not regular mode. Using Win XP Pro SP1 on Gateway 600X w/1024 ram. This is not the only problem on this machine, but the most pressing.

Went to Microsoft web site and the technical gobbledegook means nothing. How do I "explicitly add the Everyone group to the trigger service permissions in DCOMCnfg.exe". (see what I mean) Help would really be appreciated!

Do you have a recovery restore install disc or partition?
You can try doing a repair or system file check...
Scan For Missing/Corrupt System Files...

Windows XP comes with a wonderful tool called System File Checker (SFC)
Itscans and verifies the versions of all protected system files after you restart your computer...
To Do This:
Click Start menu, and then click the Run icon.
In the small box that Opens, type the three letters: cmd then click the OK button.
In the command prompt window that just opened (a black background and white text), type the following command:
SFC /scannow
And then click OK
You must be logged on as a member of the Administrators group to run SFC..
You will need your Windows XP CD during this procedure if SFC needs to get an original file. Please remember that Windows XP can have multiple instances of a .DLL file and remember which version is for which program.
I have been asked if it is possible to have a "progress meter" show when SFC runs... This is the registry hack you need. PLEASE do not go messing with your registry if you do NOT know what you are doing!
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]

Yesterday a friend pointed out to me that my website has been listed as an attack site by Google and I went to check it out. Apparently hackers had gained my FTP password (I now know FTP is not secure D: I didn't before) and injected iframes with javascript into all my HTML files to download malware. In the process of cleaning up the problem, I accidentally viewed an infected 404 page and now I am trying to make extra sure that my computer did not download any malware.

Now, here's the rub, though: I don't exactly know what my computer might have downloaded. :/ The Google alert is over here: and it suggests trojans and "scripting exploits" (I'm not sure if the scripting exploits just refers to the iframes or not...I am kind of dumb about computers ;p)

I have run both Spybot (turned up clean) and Norton AntiVirus in Safe Mode as well as normal mode. Norton found a trojan in my System Volume Information folder called "A0104722.exe." It was quarantined and then deleted. On the advice of a friend I also downloaded HijackThis and ran it. I will post a copy of the log file below for your perusal.

I'm sorry I can't give more information on what malware I may have downloaded. :/ I can really only tell you that I might've downloaded some and that they were most likely trojans (although I don't know which ones specifically). Any help... Read more

I am running Windows XP SP3, fully updated, on an Acer lap top PC.

I have several folders full of .mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. To do this I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

The two new columns appear, but the format of the "Duration" column appears to be "hours:minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03" for most .mp3's, when what I want to see is 'hours:minutes:seconds", e.g. "00:03:45".

This also happens for video files (.avi files), e.g. all my episodes of "Heroes" (sad, I know) have a duration of "00:42" instead of "00:42:xx".

Here are two pictures showing the problem with the .mp3's. The first is of Explorer showing the Duration as "Hours:Minutes":

The second picture is of the properties window of the first .mp3 in the list above:

I copied some .mp3 files to another (old) PC on my home network, and it displayed the duration field correctly:

Also, the properties window correctly shows the duration also:

I'm not the only person to have this problem. I received a private message from a member of another forum where I posted about this problem several weeks ago. That person also has the same problem with the duration field.

The tech guys on that forum were unable to find the source... Read more

Had a sudden inability to go much further than a third or forth-level download on ANY given webpage and then PC would seize-up, requiring "cont+alt+del" in order to get freed-up. Thought perhaps I picked-up a bug of some sort during a recent google search, and went immediately to Panda and Trendmicro to perform both virus as well as malware scans. While the Panda scan was loading-up, I received the following error message....

... " DoPatch....dll reports error....Error "C:\WINNT\patch.utp"....unreadable or not a patch file..."

Was able to complete both scans. Nothing found other than tracking cookies.

I then did a file serch for the above and located it. It was installed TODAY apparently, and not by me, within minutes of the problem starting.

I'm guessing someone/thing slipped this patch into my WINNT file or modified it while I was doing the google search, so I have included a HJT scan below.

Hope this all makes sense and ties-out to something. Any help would be genuinely appreciated-

Answer:*RESOLVED* Media Center "Tuner Not Found" error, "Receiver service has stopped"

Okay, I resolved the first two issues, Tuner error and ehrecvr error. It had to do with multiple Admin user accounts on my computer. My computer was originally set up with a user Robert Baker with full privileges as administrator. I then also set up a MediaCenter account with full privilidges. For whatever reason the MediaCenter account has access to EVERY action on the computer except starting the ehrecvr service.1.  First set Media Center Service Launcher to log on at NT Authority    Services > Right-Click Windows Media Center Service Launcher > Properties > Log On tab > Log On As 'This account: ' > Type " NT AUTHORITY/LocalService " > Click Apply > General tab > Start service.2. I then set the Media Center Scheduler Service AND Media Center Receiver Service to log on as my other admin account. Same as above but with other account credentials and started the services.3. Reboot and no ehrecvr errors. Since this was a good sign I tried WMC and was able to set up my TV fine.I STILL, however, get the "Upgrade in progress" message when I open Media Center. Anyone know how to fix that? I've run setup again and can't get rid of it.

I've been having some problems with my computer and I've always somehow managed to work my way around the issues spyware/malware etc. have created but lately it's been getting out of hand.. Some time ago I got a virus or something that made the entire tab under "Processes" dissapear. So I could not see process-names in the task-manager. I have re-installed XP but this problem persists. I have been using a different application to monitor and handle processes.

The problem now is the constant pop-ups generated from this fake anti-virus program calling itself "Anti Virus Pro 2007" or something.. It pops up with fake commercials, and even attach itself into other explorer-windows while I view other pages.

As popups and messageboxes keep popping up, I close them, but after a while windows will open a messagebox telling me "Buffer overrun detected in e:\Windows\system32\explorer.exe" (or \\windows\explorer.exe I don't remember really but you get the idea) and explorer.exe will be terminated, sometimes taking some internet explorer windows along with it, other times explorer.exe just starts up again and all my windows remain.

I used to have Norton but was forced to remove it as it was sucking up all my CPU. It rendered my computer useless, as I mainly use it for gaming.

I've also experienced having the connection between me and my modem broken while beeing on the internet, and I don't know if my computer actually is offline or if -I'm- just... Read more

I'm running Windows 7 on a DELL XPS. Before this happened a disk scan was running and I reset the computer before it was finished. It restarted the first time, but by the time I got back to the computer it was on the "Strike f1 to retry boot" screen.I've tried turning on CAPS LOCK, NUM LOCK & SCROLL LOCK and hitting ALT - E,F,B, but that did not seem to work. I don't know if I did the combination work or something, but I tried a variety of combos and none of them seemed to work. I also tried reloading the default settings in the Boot options menu and that did not seem to help either. I've read resetting the BIOS is a possible solution, but I'm not sure what the next step is at this point.Any help would be greatly appreciated.* UPDATE: I just ran a diagnostics test and it said Error Code 0141 - No Drive Detected

Answer:Getting "Strike f1 to retry boot" "Error Code 0141 - No Drive Detected"

Its having issues detecting the hard drive. What is the exact make/model number of this computer?Curious as to why you didnt allow it to finish properly? Did it take forever getting hung at a certain point of the scandisk in which you told it to reboot because it was not progressing further? I have a strong feeling you will need to replace the hard drive. The system sensed an issue with the drive before it died and it attempted a scandisk to try to repair, and right now it sounds like the issue with the drive got worse from the point in which the system detected a scandisk was necessary to correct for errors.

I use Windows XP. I boot from my 40gig HD and have an 80gig slave drive. My computer's worked great untill 2 days ago. Now whenever I boot up, it does the usual cd rom and floppy drive noises then it shows a black screen that says "A Disk Read Error Occured. Press CTRL ALT DELETE"

So I CTRL ALT DELETE it and then it tries to boot up and says "Error Reading Operating System". It alternates between these two messages when I reboot

Here's the thing though, After about about 20 minutes messing with the computer (turning it off and on and restarting multiple times), it will finally load windows and work just fine. All my data is on my hard drive and everthing runs smooth. But then it will give me the same errors when I try to boot up the next time.

What can I do?

as described in the title when i boot my laptop:
i get the "disk read error -> press cntrl alt del to restart" message. I then tried to access the backup partition through f10 only to run into this error "status : 0xc00000e9 Info : an unexpected I/O error has occurred" it seems that it cant communicate with my hard drive.

I read a few other forum posts but didnt see anyone have the 0xc00000e9 error also. Bios boot priorities are in order if that matters.

Is there a fix without having to replace the entire HD and buy a new vista installation(preinstalled w/ no disc in the box).

Im very reluctant to take it to a service center as i can very likely fix it myself (with the help of the friendly people here of course), only problem is im having a little trouble..finding.. my HD in this damn notebook.. heh, ill figure that part out. new to notebook repair.

I have an IBM thinkpad (a friend of mine) that I'm trying to see what's wrong with it.  Whenever you start it up, it runs through the diagnostic tests and eventually provides the message listed in my subject.  I attempted to press f12 during one of the reboots since i saw something on here from someone else that had luck but didn't really see anything i felt comfortable about changing.  After i exited, it began rebooting and displayed the error "No operating system found".  I then turned the power off and began receiving the same message as i originally got "a disk read error occurred".  Before i received the computer, my friend was told the hard drive was shot and there was no hope in retrieving any files.  Is this true?  Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have upgraded 5 machines and clean installed 3 machines.

Experienced an issue with one machine with continuous corruption problems

After the 3rd attempt I discovered that even with a Clean Install of Win 10 I get unrepairable errors - Sorry I don't have screen captures of the "exact" wording:

(Just to be clear, I have not installed ANYTHING ELSE, other than Windows 10 and the corruption is unrepairable immediately)

Heres what I did to find the issue;

Open CMD in Administrator (type cmd in Cortana search bar, RIGHT CLICK and select "Run as Administrator")

After using command:

sfc /scannow

Windows reports errors which cannot be repaired

Running the following command should repair the issue:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

BUT DOESN'T - You get this message:

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 10.xxxxxxxxx
Image Version: 10.xxxxxxxxx
Error: xxxxxxxxx
The source files could not be downloaded. Use the "source" option to specify the location of the files that are required to restore the feature.

For more information, review the log file.

I only get the BSOD when playing games, not any specific game, but any, sometime i can go a whole week of playing games and have no BSOD at all, and somedays 5 minutes after a game is running it will BSOD everytime, all day long. When I try to Run any game like GW2 Or Inquisition my pc turns into Bluescreen with an error CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED or KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR ..I've already Updated all my drivers and reinstalled all my games, also run chkdsk /f and memtest with no problems.

This is the screen:

Also this is my dump config:
(note that i have windows 8.1, not 7)

Still it doesn't create any File or Folder and when the BSOD happens the blue screen say that its collecting info but it doesn't get off 0% .
It's the same with the critical process died it just goes to the blue screen saying its collecting info but it also doesn't get off 0%.

I'm completely baffled with what to do as the blue screen view hasn't picked up anything and i cant find the dump files.

Answer:"Critical Process Died" & "Kernel Data Inpage Error"

Anyone tried deleting a registry key in Windows 7?  Got "access denied" or "Error while deleting key"?
The usual response is, "You need to run regedit as an administrator".  but I *AM* logged in as Administrator, and running regedit as administrator, trying to assign administrator full permissions on that registry key in order to delete it!!
Am I mistaken, or isn't Administrator supposed to be able to administer and control all the settings on the computer, in order to set it up for the "Average Joe" user?
So, under the permissions menu of that key, go to advanced, change the owner from System to Administrator, and try again.  It's no longer saying "access denied", but "Cannot delete xxxxxx. Error while deleting key".

The scenario: Basically, the wireless has stopped working on a laptop. The device does not show up in Device Manager, but is in the registry, so the normal procedure is to delete the registry entry for the device in HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet (and /ControlSet001) /Enum/PCI    ,then attach the device or restart the computer, it finds the "new" hardware and reinstalls it. Easy!...

Not with permission restrictions on the administrator account it's not!  So I need to give myself permission, to give myself permission, to do a simple task like delete a single registry key!  Why, Microsoft, why???!!!  Please just make the Administrator accoun... Read more

Windows XP SP2

Ok, I tried some things in other threads but to no avail. But some threads are having my same problems. First this about:blank crap is always my home page even if I change it, as well as these porn links in my favorites list. I've run scans with 5 different virus/ adware scan programs but it doesn't fix it. However, it got even worse-- I can no longer open things like My Computer, My Documents or even Control Panel to try and uninstall software. When I try to open any folder my computer freezes temp. and I get the following message: "DrWatson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

PLEASE Somebody help me. I have hijack this, if that helps. AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Answer:Solved: I can't open anything "Dr. wtsn error" & I can't remove "blank: about" adware.

I just resolved an issue I had with the wireless connectivity of my Acer notebook computer and now I am getting strange error messages. When I try (not every instance) to open device manager I will get the message "Failed to open empty document." From there I will occasionally get "Parser" messages that say "Value creation failed at line 843" or "line 422." I read what I could find about these messages and it points to MMC as the cause. How do I go about fixing this annoying problem if anyone knows?

Any ideas? Thanks!

I have a big problem here,
I have used my hard disk for 9month,
Yesterday when I watched movie on the half way,
My hard disk suddenly disfuntion,
And I thought my laptop problem due to always lagging so I restart my computer.
But after that I can't read my hard disk (WD)in my computer.
It can read in computer management there.

Ways I try:
1)I try to uninstall and reinstalled again,BUT it doesn't work.
2)I try to unchecked the hide folder and device at view.
3)I try to update the software BUT it still disfunction.
4)I try to use disk management and initialized it BUT there appeared CANNOT INITIALIZED Due to I/O device error.

Any solution for me ?

Answer:Hard Disk can't read in "my computer ", "initialized",I/O device error

The most usual cause is that the Hard Drive is beginning to fail. Back up your stuff. Go to the website of the manufacturer and test the drive.

While using "Windows Explorer" as an FTP client I have put the system into a state where any attempts to access an FTP folder from "Windows Explorer" produces the following dialog:
Dialog Title: "FTP Folder Error"
Dialog Icon: Information Icon
Dialog Text: "Windows cannot access this folder.  Make sure you typed the file name correctly and that you have permission to access the folder.  Details: No more Internet handles can be allocated"
Dialog Buttons: OK
I had used the "Add a network location" feature of "Windows Explorer" to add an FTP site.  The FTP folder appears under "Computer" in the left panel of "Windows Explorer."
It is not mapped to a drive letter.  I then initiated a large FTP transfer operation by using drag-and-drop from the FTP folder to a local folder.  A portion of the transfer completed as expected but after some time it produced the "No more Internet
handles can be allocated" error.  When OK was clicked the transfer was terminated.  In this case I am using large to refer to many thousands of files and directories to be transferred as opposed to a small count of files having many bytes.
After the initial error dialog is cleared with the OK button and the transfer is terminated I can then reliably reproduce the dialog.  Any attempt to open an FTP network location
from "Windows Explorer" will produce a n... Read more

I have a Toshiba r700-181 (PT310E) work laptop. It is running Windows 7 x64 Enterprise.

It has one 4GB stick of ram which is PC3 10600. Windows works fine with this.

I have obtained a 4GB stick of ram which is PC3 12800. With just this one in, Windows works fine.

However, if I have BOTH sticks put in, the BIOS recognises that there is 8GB installed, but Windows fails to boot.

It gets stuck at the "Starting Windows" screen. If I restart it asks me if I want to start windows normally or to run the Windows repair. If I try that I get the message: "Error: 0xc0000225. The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible."

I tried using a Windows 7 System Restore disc but that doesnt work...

If I try either of the sticks in the laptop one at a time, then Windows 7 boots up fine.

Is this just down to the laptop not being compatible with the mixture of speeds? I thought that if they were mixed it would just use the lower speed by default?

So confused

Answer:Laptop hangs at "Starting Windows" or getting "Error 0xC0000225"

Okay, I have an ATI Radeon 8500 on my Windows XP system, and one day, after my dad had used the computer, the 3D video driver stoppeed working. He can't recall doing anything. So it goes. I think "whatever", downloaded the latest Catalyst drivers, and try to install it, only to get the message "INF Error, Video Driver Not Found" and then "Try to set up your adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup". I tried googling for info (apparently it's a common-ish issue), but I never found anything that worked. I tried uninstalling anything ATI and then installing, to no avail. I tried uninstalling the error-listed VGA adapter from the Device Manager and then running install which didn't work. Rebooting after that also didn't work (it popped up with "New hardware found" after the reboot, but it couldn't find the proper drivers).

After an unedifying series of adventures I got to which has several drivers for my mobo. I first downloaded (obviously) the VGA driver, and tried to run setup. Unfortunately, after preparing the install, an Error message pops up saying "The system cannot detect the device, please confirm that the device is configured properly and restart the setup program." I then tried downloading the AGP upgrade, installed it, but nothing changed. I also downloaded the BIOS update, since it mention... Read more

Answer:"INF Error", VGA Driver "Missing" Installing ATI Catalyst Drivers

the radeon is not integrated with your motherboard, and the onboard video has probably been disabled in the BIOS. to install the appropriate drivers for an ATI radeon 8500 card you need to download and install the drivers from ati's website. from there you can download the latest version of catalyst and install that.

Wanted to resurrect an older thread, but its closed :

Please read completely before responding.
I am a 30 year IT pro, most of it as a programmer. I am the geek in charge of a tech non profit org in Hawaii.
so yea.. i have at least half a clue.

Here is the deal.
In doing drive copies, data recoveries, etc... when we are moving a mass amount of data from one drive to another we run into this problem a lot.
"Error moving file or folder" -- "directory is not empty"
If you restart the move, it will continue on and keep going, restart enough times and eventually it will move all directories.

I think its a programming issue with windows and wonder if anyone has a work around ?

I have a suspicion that the copy process is getting out of sequence. That it is trying to move a folder before it actually emptied it. Possibilities are :
1) windows forgot its place in moving through and navigating numerous sub directories and it is having a problem with “recursive calls.”
2) Computers with hyper threading or dual core processors are spawning the movement of files across multiple processes, and some are getting ahead of the other.
3) It did actually move the file, but the cache or something in memory has not updated, or the full data write has not completed yet before it tried to move the directory. (delayed write)
Yes, you can copy and then delete the old... Read more

Answer:"Error moving file or folder" -- "directory is not empty"

This is a known issue. It is by design.

As you may know, moving is in its essence an unsafe process. It would be better to use the actual sequence of copy and then delete.
