Preferred Solution: Trying to turn PDF file into Comma-Delimited file (single file format)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just found the site, amazing work.
I have a project where I need to export a comma and quote delimited text file. I am running W7 and O2007.
On Aril 8, 2007 Rollin_Again posted the code below. I see you are still active, could I impose on you for a couple of changes?
> One, if the field is blank there is no need for quotes.
> Two, I do not need Quotes on the first 2 fields/columns.
>Third, there is a space before and after every comma that is not needed.

My file only has 20-30 rows by 22 columns so cleaning this up is not a BIG deal, but since it is Christmas I thought I would ask.

Public Sub ExportText()

Dim fso
Dim aArray As Variant

Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set fsoText = fso.CreateTextFile("C:\Test.txt", True)

vCol = Left(Columns(Cells.Find(What:="*", After:=[A1], SearchOrder:=xlByColumns, _
SearchDirection:=xlPrevious).Column).Address(0, 0), 2 + (Cells.Find(What:="*", After:=[A1], _
SearchOrder:=xlByColumns, SearchDirection:=xlPrevious).Column < 27))

For i = 2 To Cells.Find("*", SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlPrevious).Row

ReDim aArray(1 To 1, 1 To Cells.Find(What:="*", After:=[A1], SearchOrder:=xlByColumns, _

This format is necessary for importing data files into HandiLedger systems.

Can anyone please give me a step-by-step explanation of how to achieve this.

Answer:how to convert excel data to ASCII comma delimited text file

you should be able to save as CSV - Comma Separated Value . which will produce a comma delimited file

ASCII is how a computer uses characters
so a letter
A in ASCII can be a number of different codes , depending on what the computer uses
I used to work on computers that uses octal numbers
The octal numeral system, or oct for short, is the base-8 number system, and uses the digits 0 to 7.Click to expand...

and an "A" was 101
I dont know if you are trying to change the letters and numbers into ASCII code
this maybe HEX base 16
The hexadecimal numbers are 0-9 and then use the letters A-F.Click to expand...

Here is a table of ASCII codes

if you had
cell A1 with
H and
A2 with 20

did you want to show
change the H and the 20 to an ASCII code
say HEX

I have used Eudora for many years and I'm now switching to Outlook 2003. I have about 200 addresses in Eudora and it has no export option. I have managed to get all the names and addresses into a comma delimited file by doing a manual search and replace. Here's the format:

FirstName,,LastName,,[email protected]

I did all of this on the assumption Outlook had a way to import a comma delimited text file into its address book. But, alas, I don't see any way to do it.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I don't mind abandoning this method for another if need be.

Answer:Import Comma-delimited Text File into Outlook 2003 Address Book?

I was just looking at a site for making a backup of Eudora's Address Book.

Try Exporting the Contacts folder in Outlook, as a .csv file, first.
Then add the contacts from the Eudora Address Book to the .csv file and Import the .csv file back into the Contacts folder in Outlook

I'm trying to open in Excel 2010 a file with .exf extension that is always a pipe delimited text file. I have set, using Windows file associations, to open this type of file with Excel. But, I would like for it to recognize that it is pipe delimited, so that I don't have to click on Delimited, Other, "|" to import the file. Any ideas? I also thought about using a macro to save some steps as well. Thanks for your help!

Macro is the solution, just start the macro recorder, give it a name and do what you do, stop the recorder and you have the macro.

I am trying to transfer information from one database to another via comma delimited ASCII format. The format I exported from the first database is "aaa", "bbb","ccc","ddd". But some records from the first database have empty fields, in which the quotation marks are omitted; that is, "aaa", , "ccc","ddd", where the bbb field is empty. The second (import) database requires the presence of the quotation marks in ALL fields and therefore rejects the comma-delimited file when trying to import.

How can I make the databases compatible so that the import will be accepted?

Hope I can explain this situation: I have a program on my pc that is used accounting & billing in a medical practice. I am signing up now with an online service that can electronically file my billing to the different insurance companies. I have been told that all of data that is presently stored on the billing program (program #1) can be sent to the online electronic filing program (program #2) by copying the files as csv file format. When I asked the rep from program #1, they said I would need to copy the files as 'tab delimited text files'. I have never heard of that, and have no idea how, and if I can do that with all these data files. The only thing I have ever heard about csv files is I beleive that is the file format used in Outlook Express. This is an entire different thing. Program #1 is very strange to work with, in that it is not like a basic windows program with file/edit, etc. available to you. Hope that makes sense?Anyone out there have a clue what I am talking about? Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions.

I have been using this same Excel file for many years. I viewed on my new home laptop 2 days ago, using a 2010 Excel Version. It was created on 2007.

I opened it on my work computer, version 2003, and now get the above error message on both machines. The file can no longer be opened.

I have tried emailing it, still won't open.

I have chenged the file type to both .xls and .xlxs neither open.

I downloaded the program on the home page of this site, and it said no file issues, no known problems for this file.

When I click Open File, it still shows where I had the file opened (the file name in lighter gray font - but cannot open.) The original file is in black, and I can open. But, get that message.

I also tried to open and fix - and I tried both options, with formulas, and without formulas, and all it opened was foreign characters.

Any other suggestions? Or is this file gone? Unfortunately, my most recent back up is 3-4 months old...

If the image files you're unable to open were obtained via download to a folder name that includes certain special characters (for example, the symbols seen in "【Pictures】") this creates a file path that, although acceptable to the operating system, is not recognized properly by IrfanView (or other apps), yielding the somewhat misleading "Can't Read File Header, Unknown file format" message (should really say "File Not Found"). Simple solution is to rename the download folder, or move the image files to another directory with a name that's recognized properly by IrfanView. Hope this helps some who are encountering this confusing error!

I'll try to keep this short, but here it is.... The small business office where I work purchased a database CD which is in pipe delimited format. I'm confident we can't get the data any other way. I can open it with all the data in Wordpad to view, but we would like to be able to open into a spreadsheet or database that puts each piped piece of data into a seperate column or field so we can sort and maybe print merge the data for labels, etc. We are running Win98 and MSWorks (an older 4.X version) on a Pentium II (I think 450 Mhz) machine. This is out of my league... Is there software to buy or can I force it to open like I want? I tried opening in Works Spreadsheet and it combined the data and put it all in 2 columns... I used a friend's Excel program to see if it was any different and it put all data in 1 column. HELP! Thanks for anything... I'd like to learn. Like I said, our office is small and I'm probably the most computer literate, so I'd like to figure this out.

I have done this many times before but it was always with Office 2003. Is it possible something has changed that I am unaware of?
Any advice on how I can get around this? All other fields appear to import fine.

Answer:Access - Import From Tab Delimited Text File

The most likely cause of the problem is with the way that Access handles importing the field types, it takes the first record and applies whatever type of value it finds to the field type in the Import Table, which means that when it finds a Number in the first line it assumes the data is going to be numbers. If however some records have text in them you get a type conversion error.
You should be able to overcome this by importing in to a Table with all the fields set to Text and then correcting the data using the error list before setting the field types to the correct one.
Alternatively if you can open the text file you could make the changes to that prior to importing.

Hello everyone:

Please someone -- can anyone help -- I have noticed a problem on one of my computers, which uses Office 2007, that when i attempt to do anything on my virtual machine (which uses Office 2003) within excel, invariably the file gets corrupted. I am not sure why this happens, because it doesn't always happen right away. However, after creating a file on my VM and then it gets saved on my regular machine, either after a few sessions or immediately, i get the error "file format not valid". I have spent over two weeks on this file (yes, using it everyday and saving/opening with no problem up until yesterday) and it has a lot of critical, non-sensitive data. I have tried calling my helpdesk (they were of no help), tried saving the file as *.xlsx, tried opening in word and wordpad (I could see some data -- but not all the critical data was there). PLEASE -- I have already bought one of those Recovery tools (which didn't get even 50%, or at least the critical updates i made yesterday). I can't afford to spend more -- is there anyone who would be willing to help a lost soul get this data back??? I have attached the file

Iuse winrar and need to know if there are any differences between the different compression formats ( zip, rar, tar) and if one of them is more robust than the rest?

Answer:Do you have a prefered file compression software or file format?

.tar is Unix-based and natively doesn't compress data (it was originally designed for tape backups in the 70's). If you use TCShell, Bourne, Korn etc. in a Unix environment, then you can use the gzip command line argument to compress a modified version of the .tar format.

There is little difference between compression ratios for .rar (propreity format) and .zip (now public domain) formats - both are extremely robust and support AES encryption.

Personally, I prefer the .7z format used by 7ZIP - it provides custom compression ratios, and on very large files consistently achieves about 10% greater compression, albeit it at a slower speed (greater compression = slower speed).

I regularly use the command line version of 7ZIP within .BAT files to compress data before using ROBOCOPY to backup the .7z files.

As the title says. I burned an iso file to disc which then appeared as an .rar file. I used Winrar to extract it to my desktop, but when I tried to open it it opened as a Winrar archive file. I extracted that with the same result. Another Winrar archive file! Am I missing something? Any help appreciated.

Answer:When I extract a .rar file using Winrar the extracted file is still in .rar format

Instead of extracting the .RAR file directly from the disk (where it will be a "Read Only" file), copy it first to the PC's hard drive, remove its Read Only attribute if set, then extract it with Winrar.

About 2 months ago I noticed that pressing the comma key with no modifier - unhides the windows file explorer. If I close all instances of the file explorer it does not launch a new one.

It doesn't matter which keyboard I use: laptop usb or on-screen.

I've checked all shortcuts and I don't see any hotkeys enabled. I tried turning off hotkeys in the registry but it didn't help.

It seems like the explorer itself is processing the comma key and unhiding itself.
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Answer:File Explorer unhides when comma key is pressed

Don't think I've ever heard of this before. I don't have an answer yet, but just letting you know I'm working on it. In the mean time, the only thing I can think of is to update the keyboard driver for your computer and see if that fixes it.

Can someone help me find a Windows(XP)-based program that I can use to delete records from text-delimited flatfile using a file of email addresses?

Actually, it could be a text-delimited, CSV or an XLS spreadsheet - I can put the data in several formats.

I bought a list of several thousand "opt-in" email addresses, but had about 40% of them bounce. I also had a few request "opt-out". The task of deleting the individual records is staggering without a helper!

My background is a mainframe systems analyst. The only PC-based programming language I became good at was compiled (4.5 or 7.1) BASIC. I sure hate to have to try to find my BASIC compiler, re-install it (if the diskettes could even be read!) and write a program from scratch.

I have created a flatfile containing a list of all the "bounces" and "remove me" email addresses (8K+ records!) and need to use it as a "driver" to find the records in the flatfile and eliminate them.

If anyone can help... THANKS!

I have a spreadsheet that I have linked values to another excel file which is then saved in a .csv format for upload into a price engine. Most all values are correct, except some that have trailing commas. The data contains all the same formatting and I cannot figure out why this is happening. Here's a snapshot of the .csv file. As you can see some have the commas and some don't. Any ideas?

How do you turn an MPEG file into a sound file that is capable of being played on a CD Player? I tired burning these files onto a CD with a CDR drive and it didn't work. It will play them on the computer, probably because it has the right application for them. But when you play them in a different CD Player, it all acts as one song and has no audio. Is their anything that I can do to fix this?

Hi there
This old program still works in W10.

If you want to convert a load of tracks to a single audio file or you have a .cue file with say .ape / .mp3 or whatever and you want to convert it back into Tracks again then this program CUETOOLS works a treat.

Free program from Hydrogen Audio forums -- excellent for all things audio BTW.

Example of converting a CD single .ape file into the original tracks in lossless FLAC . Works also for other audio format too

I have tried formatting the cells to "general" and "text" but then all I get is something like (instead of 11-Apr, 38483. and instead of 2-Jan, 38453. etc...The author of the original files has suggested I change to Odds to Decimal not Fractions. Hi again, probably an easy one.

I would like to export Excel data to a text file so that the text file is exported with both quotation marks and commas as delimiters.

Microsoft support page returns a relevant article but offers no answer.

Thank you

Answer:Export as comma delimited (Excel to Wordpad)

This is what I found in the help file for exporting to text file:

Convert bidirectional text files to ANSI
Language-specific information

The ConvText utility provides more support (additional code pages and visual text layout options) than the Microsoft Excel Text Import Wizard for converting right-to-left characters in bidirectional files to ANSI characters with logical text layout. ConvText is installed as part of Excel.

In the \Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office folder, double-click the ConvText.exe icon.
Click Convert To Windows ANSI Code Page.
Type file names in the Source and Target boxes, or click Browse.
Select the code page, text layout, file type, and file type parameters that match the source text file you are converting.
Click Load. You can also click Save to retain the conversion specifications.
Click Convert.
Follow the instructions in the Text Import Wizard.
All field names and records from the original worksheet are fully recreated in a new worksheet.

The problem is with my usb stick drive when I connected to my PC all of my folders went white icon and file type says "File" just as I've attached image of it here. Please is there anything I could do to recover them as folders again is important. Thank you in advance. click here

Answer:USB Driver folders turn into white icon files with file type "File"

They appear to have lost their extension so Windows will not know what program to open them with.
You can test this out by making a new text file in Notepad and saving it to your desktop (so it's easy to find) then rightclick and rename - remove the .txt at the end, press Enter to save it (you will get popup message to say ...file will become unusable... click on OK) Now when you look at the file in Windows Explorer it is exactly like the one you have posted link to.
Still testing.. Now rightclick on the file and choose 'Open' you will get a popup window asking you to choose which program to use. Select 'Notepad' and the test file will open in Notepad.
It does seem strange that your USB flash drive has 'lost' all the .extensions from the files. Could be that it is (becoming) corrupt or has some sort of virus infection. So be aware you may get other problems. I would scan the drive with your antivirus and anti Malware programs and see if they find anything. I had thought it might be the 'Shortcut Virus' but your pic doesn't show the classic 'files turned into shortcuts' icons.

Hello everyone,

Firstly I would like to say that this seems like a swell enough forum as is and I am frankly out of ideas. About a year ago I had backed up a rather large series of files under one name for my roommate who was in the process of doing some "spring cleaning" on his computer. Fast forward to now and he is out of Hard-drive space damn near and has been unable to find the reserve file himself. Below is the directory under which I named and saved the around 200gb file of games and old-ROTC documents. Regardless the file needs to be found and even after un-hiding all files from the control panel, I have yet been able to locate it. It would seem to be simple enough, one would think that you could see the file name sitting above Program Files but it is not. Any one have any ideas, we would rather not have to reformat/ system restore if we can avoid it.

Answer:File path error/ Cannot find file directory/file itself

I used a software called TreeSize which shows the size of all folders on the disk. Thinking that the Windows OS is around 18gb, a 200gb files should really stick out with TreeSize.

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

I saw your post right after you made it but I did not post a reply because:
1) Real life got in the way
2) I'm not sure that I understand your issue.
I'm not picking at your English, but this is important:

Your post mentioned, "another file is opens with that".

I'm guessing that you meant:
...another file is opened with that
...another file opens with that

Either way, the word open is really important to the description of your problem.

Let's just talk about Word for now.

When you open a Word, one or more temporary files may be created. This is normal and desired; but those temp file(s) should not automatically open in Word.

Please try this:
Close all copies of Word.
Open Windows (file) Explorer.
Double click on an existing Word document.

How many windows do you have open for the Word program?

How many files do you have open in the Word program?

I'm trying to copy a VHD (22g, dynamic I think...)

I saw someone mention xcopy /j, to achieve the unbuffered I/O perf. you get with richcopy...

what's the syntax for single files?

Can't you just paste the path into the source?

Answer:how do I copy a BIG single file (using richcopy?) big file copy

Use this command if the VHD is sitting on C:

robocopy "C:\Users\yourName\VHD Folder" "S:\Storage Folder" *.* /COPY:DAT /E

Change yourname and replace VHD Folder with the name of the folder where the VHD resides. S:\Storage Folder is where you want to store it.

I tried the recommendations for fixing this below:

Follow these steps to grant full permissions to the folder where the files are stored: 1. Right click on the folder on the external drive and click on
properties. 2. On the property window, click Security tab.
3. Now click on Edit and then click Add.
4. Now type everyone in the box and
click OK.

5. Then check Full control check box.

6. Click on Apply and then click OK.
You may also try the below mentioned steps:
1. Click on Start. 2. Go to Control Panel. 3. Select "SOUND". 4. Double click on speakers. 5. Click on advanced tab and then uncheck enable audio enhancements.

But then I received the error message that I don't have rights to edit and add. Why would this be? I am the administrator?

Answer:Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct.

Please first take ownership of the folder or files, then give yourself full control permission.

I need to change a zip file to an epub file. I have heard this can be done, but when I add the .epub after the file name, I notice the file is still actually zip type file when I right click properties. This is causing a problem when I try to open it in in different ebook reader programs.

I know there is a way to change a file's actual file type, but I don't know how. Perhaps there is a software or I need to go into the registry?

I can do this either with windows 7 or XP home, because I have two computers. So help on either operating system would be great?

As a related question, I am wondering does changing a file's icon type actually change the file type or just the icon?

Answer:How do I change a file's file type (not only file association)?

Hi awd and welcome to Seven Forums.

I take it that your zip file is an e-book. Changing the extension does nothing to change the format of the data. If you have need to convert an e-book from one format to another try Calibre. In addition to managing e-books it allows you to convert from one form to another. calibre - E-book management

I would like to know if there is a way to open a file in a program. Basically I want something like this (this is totally wrong):

open "C:Users\*My name*\My Documents\run.swf" in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe

Answer:Create a batch file to open a certain file in a certain file

The more standard way to do that is to use the start cmd. You call the program first and the file name second.

start "" "c:\windows\notepad.exe" "c:\somepath\logfile.txt"

Hi everyone,

I recently accidentally formatted a hard drive. So, I quickly install a file recovery software (EaseUS Data Recovery). Then the result shows that most of SWF files are big in size. I think that lots of my files have been converted or combine with other files. So, how do I recover my files?

Answer:File format changed into other format after format a hard drive

This may not be the best answer, but I would recover the files first. That is you biggest concern right now. Then try to see what you need to do to fix them.

since i moved to a new house only a qauter of a mile back from were i was living. my connection speeds are slower & i have to hunt for that fast connection. than when i get it. i have issue downloading files. they either start to download or they seem like they freeze & than say download complete. no matter what the size of the file is or where im downloading the file from

i have tryed Avast anti-virus 5.0 to see if i have virus but to no luck. i have tryed to mess with modem settings port speed & such.

i have Netzero hi-speed 3g dial-up
running on:

Vista Ultimate 32bit
2 gbs ram
Amd 64 3000+ 2.4ghz

so im not sure what could be causing the issue of not being able to download a single file. more less let me still connect. would maybe uninstalling & reinstalling Netzero from a disk help or what.

things iv tryed.

resetting the windows firewall
changing port speed on the modem & in the network connection for the connection.
running a line from the phone box ( the one outside on the side of the house ) to the pc 50ft line. ( but didnt mattter when living at other house )

any help would be great to fix this issue so i can go on downloading & playing freelancer shattered worlds online.

Answer:Cant Download A Single File

i forgot that i did do a scan & i had 4 or 5 virus in a folder called RECYCLER on D;/ drive but i dont know if that maybe causing the download issue or not. but thought maybe that would help.

also when i say i cant download the file starts than just stops after sometime & its not even moving any data. just sits there than just stops after some time.

websites still open & open pretty fast. i know thats as downloading & websurfing are not the same.

I sometimes need to send, via email to clients, files that contain confidential data.

As clients typically have very few - if any - computer skills, the method chosen needs to be difficult (nearly impossible) to break but very easy to use.

I would be grateful to receive advice as to the most appropriate way to accomplish this and recommendations as to software. Clients typically don't like to spend money on intangible assets so a product that is robust, secure, easy to use and reasonably priced would be perfect....... then again, so would a villa on a beach of a Greek island

Answer:Single File Encryption

One very simple (and inexpensive) solution is to use password protected ZIP files. Winzip Pro offers file compression/encryption, and is as easy to use as Windows Explorer. Check for pricing (Currently $30 (USD) per copy, but they offer a free 30-day trial to test it out.)

The process is simple - just use Winzip to compress/encrypt your files with a password you choose, then email to your client. Call the client to inform them of the password. (Because it would defeat the purpose if you sent the password in the same email as the attachment.)

Is there a way of getting a URL put into a text file and changing the extension so it acts as a link to a web browser? If I recall, Internet Explorer used to store URLs in individual files, but I don't know if this is still the case. Can you help me?

Answer:Is there a type of file that contains a single URL?

It still works that way up to this day. Each favorite is in fact a separate file and those are just plain text files with the .url extension. When launching them on their own, they open the default browser with the address indicated within them.
Their content is trivial to understand:

Just that suffices. They must be named with a .url extension for them to work, doable with notepad.

Can anyone recommend a stand alone web browser that is free/open source? I have not been able to turn up anything that will work. Basically, it needs to be one single executable that works in Win32, has a GUI, and can have simple options passed to it via the command line (url, window size, cookie directory, etc). I don't need ssl support, bookmarks, or anything fancy (just a basic html viewer).

The only thing I have been able to turn up that sort of works is Off by One. I may have to settle for it, but it is entirely undocumented and, as far as I can tell, will not allow anything but a url to be passed to it via the command line.

I am thinking people who use web browser on usb drives may have some good ideas.

Answer:Single file web browser

I haven't really used it myself, and you've probably already considered it but would Portable FireFox be a workable solution? It doesn't look like itexactly meet your requirements, so probably not, but I figured I'd throw it out there in the off chance you hadn't come across it yet. Otherwise, the OBO Browser is the only other browser I've ever seen used on BartPE disks and environments where dependencies of any sort aren't desirable.
