Outlook emails become marked as read

Question: Outlook emails become marked as read

Hi All,One of my user is having an issue where his emails become marked as read even though he has not selected it. It's not happening to all of his emails and for the ones that do occur, it happens after a couple of minutes.. usually within 10 minutes. The 'mark as read' option is turned off on his Preview Pane within Tools > Options. We are using Outlook 2002 with an exchange server. Has anyone ever come across this issue? Thanks in advance for any help/advice.Sfatsura

Preferred Solution: Outlook emails become marked as read

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I closed my AOL account a month ago and now use OE.

I am finding that many, but not all, of my received emails have the paperclip icon which turn out to be marked AOL with some number and the attachment is a copy of the received email!

How do I get rid of this feature as I think it is adding to my download limit?

Thanks for any suggestions.
XP SP2

Answer:Attachments Marked Aol In My Outlook Xpress Emails

Did you perhaps have your AOL mail forwarded to the new account?
Is the attachment the same as the body of the message received?
Does the E-mail appear to be from AOL or from the original sender?

Hi! My emails were fine until about a week ago. Suddenly emails that I have marked to send are appearing in my Outbox with a "Draft" icon rather than the "Sending Message" one. When I then do Send and Receive, they don't go.
Opening them and then pressing send does nothing, but dragging them to another folder, opening them and then pressing send puts them back in the Outbox with the right icon. Send and Receive then transmits them. Not an earth shattering problem, but annoying.

Answer:Outlook 2010 emails to send marked incorrectly

Hello BristolPete, welcome to Seven Forums..

Something to check first:

Go to the 'File' tab and choose 'Options'. Next select 'Mail' > 'Save messages'.
Now ensure that 'Save to this folder' has 'Drafts' in the drop-down.

Hello guys

Here's my problem :

My client has an iPhone which receives mails for an account (IMAP). His outlook also receives this mails (IMAP). We want to store the received mail from the computer into a specific Outlook local folder, but not to remove them from IMAP mailbox.

So I set up a rule to copy incoming messages from the IMAP account to the local folder.

If a mail is received in Outlook, it will be copied to the local folder, and we can access the original with the iPhone IMAP account.

BUT

If a mail is received in the iPhone (mark as read), when Outlook gets it, it doesn't moves it to the local folder (because the mail has already been marked as read)

Is there a tip to force Outlook to apply the rule on the new mails already marked as read ?

Thanks for your support

Yannick

Answer:Outlook rule problem for mails already marked as read

OK I isolated the problem, but didn't find the solution...

As seen on the M$ Office support website : Rules do not operate on message that have been read, only on those that are unread.
As my client reads the message on his iPhone, the message arrives in Outlook as already read. So what I need to do is to apply my rule on unread messages too.

Is that possible ?

Thanks for you support

Yannick

Hi all

I am wondering if you can help me.

I returned from a day off yesterday, and every email that arrived yesterday was black within my inbox, as if it had been read by me.

Is there any reason for this - I did not sign into my email at all. Could it be my settings?

Thanks

Mark

I already know how to create a "read" receipt for sent emails. From my understanding, when you set the function, I will received read receipts for all email that was read. I was wondering if this setting could be set on individual emails instead of all of them. Thanks!

Answer:Read receipt for read emails in Outlook 98

In the compose area of Outlook go to Options and check the box for that email.

I am having a problem with opening some emails. When I click on some emails, the reading pane is greyed out and when I attempt to open those same emails, they give the following error: "Can't open this item. The text formatting command is not available. It may not be installed correctly. Please install outlook again." I've uninstalled outlook, renamed the reg keys, reinstalled outlook, and still recieve the same error. I tried changing the email editor, still not working. I'm not sure what to do next.

Answer:Cannot read some outlook emails

If it was an Outlook issue, all your email messages would be equally affected, but since only some of them are affected, they are probably damaged or corrupt. Nothing you can do about that.

I have a customer who is having problems receiving text emails.
When a text email is sent to her the body is blank. However if I send her a html email she can read it fine.

What would cause this? What are some things I can look at to fix this?

I have looked through the tools>options and didnt find anything that would seem to cause this.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

My dad recently got a new laptop to replace his five year old beast. On that five year old beast is thousands upon thousands of very important business emails and legal documents. Naturally, he needs to have access to these emails.

Due to his concerns about getting his new laptop up and running, I didn't get to do the logical thing and transfer his old emails and settings over to his new laptop before he started using it. Now, it's been over a month and his new laptop is quickly accumulating new piles of vital emails.

I need to find a way for him to read his old emails quickly and easily.

He uses Microsoft Outlook. I've got the original computer with all the emails on it as well as his new computer. Can I import his old email into Outlook on his new computer without losing any of his new email or overwriting his new settings? Failing that, is there a way for me to view his emails, as saved by Outlook in .dbx files, in plain text?

Note: this isn't a situation where I can just try something and hope it works. My dad's a lawyer and losing a single email can be roughly equivalent to the end of the world. So I'm not going to do anything experimental like trying to import his old emails just to see if it works unless someone knows for sure that it will.

Answer:Read emails in plain text without Outlook

Ah I was going to aim you at a small app that was free but now costs $5 called DBExtract as it will do exactly what you need.

http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspx

it recovers the emails into a text file, sadly leaves the header and footer info ( email server info etc in the text file )

Worth a look at the app anyhow, their maybe an older free version still knocking around on the net.

Going abroad (very soon)I need to read my OE emails while awayCan anyone point me in the right direction, on how to do this.or is there a way to (tempoarily) divert the OE to a Hotmail account ??Alan

Answer:Read Outlook Express emails- abroad??

You can read your e-mails by logging into your account with your ISP, navigate to the e-mail center and read them there. They can be downloaded later by leaving them marked as unread or deleted when you have finished with them.

Using gmail today i noticed several items in my Gmail web, sent mail folder that I had not sent. They were all from me, to 4 contacts, one of whom got a majority of these messages. They appeared to be sent from Outlook, as I use IMAP, and they each had a winmail.dat file 0k, attached.

Subject said "NOT READ: fwd(etc....)
Or, others were relevent, 'NOT READ: final copy of flyer for reveiw" which i had sent the exact subject heading to this person months ago.

Last suspicious activity was sending a email in outlook to [email protected](DO NOT CLICK) responding to craigslist advertisement.

I unplugged my IMAP service until i figure this out. I had NO ANTIVIRUS CONNECTED AS I JusT RESTORED MY PC.

is it possible 'they' had acces to my very sensitive google docs? files? I changed my Gogle account password immediately, but could it be too late?

Hi. I am so glad I found this site! I have tried everything!

My trouble is with OutLook Express 6 email.
I am running Windows XP,and IE6.
I can receive emails, but they do not display in the
message box. It is totally blank. I have checked all
my settings with my husband's laptop (in Tools, then Options) and all are the same. The only way I can read
the email, in text only, is to check the "Read" box in the Options that says "read all messages in plain text".
Then the text can only be read as an attachment.
It apprears as if the HTML function is not there any more.

Also, I cannot compose, reply, or forward emails at all.

I hope this makes sense and you can help me.
Please let me know if you need anything else to diagnose
my problem.

And thank you so much for your response.

Every now and again, legitimate emails in my Outlook Express inbox are marked as SPAM (in capitals) and this preceeded and followed by 3 asterisks. Has anyone any idea what program may be inserting? Not a major problem but it niggles. Thanks, Mac

Answer:emails marked as spam

I have the same problem myself and it's escalating........many are the same porn site as well......I have tried to block and filter using message rules and the words spam in capitals, small letters and with and without the asterixes but 95 new spam porn messages arrived in my inbox from wamadoo today.blocking using certain words is useless as they put a string of random words in the message body to make it harder to block them.i now have a blocked senders list of hundereds but as they come from different addreses I can go on forever.anyone got any ideas of how to block them using the ***SPAM*** prefix put on them by wanadoo as I can't seem to be able to make it work

Is it possible to set a security feature on an email so that the receiver can not mark the message as unread once the message was opened. I had this happen to me with several emails from another outlook user. We work on the same server.

Once I opened the emails, I was not able to close them and mark as unread. Within an hour the property was removed. I trying to figure out how this happened. Thanks in advance for any insight.

MS Outlook 2007 automatically deletes emails once they are read. The only way to save them is to move them to a folder other than the inbox. I felt there was probably a setting for this but I have been unable to find it. My older version of Outlook did not do this and I am at a loss. Thanks!!

When using Outlook Express (Note: EXPRESS, not MS Outlook) I often use the 'Find' function to search for old sent or received emails. However I'm not able to open the emails from this feature (message reads: 'Message could not be Displayed - Check your comp for low memory or low disc space'). I have plenty of both - I'm using a near new comp with 80GB hard drive, only 35GB of which is used. I have 2GB of RAM with 1GB or more of head room when running usual applications.

This is a time-wasting hassle, as I need to write down the date and time the email was sent, close the find box, then search for the email chronologically. If that's not the one I was looking for I have to do the same thing all over again.

Would this have anything to do with the size of my Outlook Express folder, which has about 7GB of emails stored.

I received an email from a friend last Saturday. I read it on Sunday from my Outlook inbox but did nothing with it. On Monday I went to reply but it had disappeared. I have repeatedly checked deleted items and everywhere else in Outlook and can't find it. Someone else who used my laptop on Sunday denies having done anything with the email. Can it have really disappeared without human intervention?
Thanks in anticipation....

Answer:Can read emails in Outlook 2007 automatically disappear?

Depending on your email provider, and the Outlook settings, you may still be able to access the email on the provider's webmail page. For example, if you read BT emails through Outlook, going to BT.com and logging in there will show all emails received. BUT, if Outlook is not setup to leave mail on the server, they may not be there.

Yes, I've tried adding to safe sender list, and adding sender's domain to safe domain list, but no change. These messages are not going into my spam folder, so not being treated as spam. They just have [SPAM] added to the beginning of the subject line.

Please help if you can, I know very little about excel and I have a very complicated spreadsheet to build.

If I can pull this off, it will help me fight the coming layoffs.

I need excel to send automatic email when the spread sheet is opened to the supervisor every time a check in date hits and to keep emailing them everyday until they mark the cell next to the date as completed. I need to learn VB for this and I am running out of time!

Same thing for the shift manager complex manager and HR.

I have a problem with Windows 7 showing folders (and other images) dim (and sometimes almost unreadable) after a abnormal shut down several days ago (power button to force the shutdown).

I have tried as many things as I could find to solve this problem with no improvement. Things tried include:
-Scanning by MalwareBytes, Norton 360, Spybot, Norton Bootable Recovery Disk, Norton Power Eraser
-Restoring an earlier System Image from a saved back up from November last year
-Reinstalling Windows 7 (inplace)

Nothing seems to solve this problem. I have also viewed file folders from another system on my network and the folders still show dim (and read only). They are not read only when I view them directly on the other system. So I strongly suspect that there is some issue with the Windows Registry which is not going away. I do have a Hijack This log but don't really know how to interpret the data.

Anyone know how to further trouble shoot this problem?

Thank you.

Answer:Windows 7 folders dim and marked as read only

I am not sure by what you mean dim... Is it set to hidden under properties? What folders are these? As the image is not clear on what you are pertaining to being dim.

Hi,

I have some documents, music and picture files on a Windows Vista PC which I had to backup from a PC after the installation became corrupt. They're now been restored to the PC after re-installing Windows.

But I have an infuriating problem which is preventing me from using those files !!

I first realised something was wrong when I tried to run iTunes and got an error about file permissions not being able to access a file. As it was a 'system file' I assumed this was a minor problem, so I ran a 'repair installation' but the problem remains.

When I looked at the file folder itself, I have noticed that the "Read only" box is dark grey. I can clear it and Windows says it goes through the files to remove the permission, at one point saying I need to grant Permission. At the end, the box is clear. But as soon as I close the dialogue box and re-open it, it's gone back to dark grey again (undoing what I just did!!)

Can you advise me how to correct this "fault" and regain Full Control of all the files?

I have in the past (a very long time ago) followed instructions on changing file permissions of files and folders, so I'm not easily phased by complex repair instructions.

Regards,
Julia Evans

Answer:Files marked as "Read only" - how do I reset them?

Just a guess, but this may be iTunes DRM getting in the way. If you just copied the files from another source, the DRM may be balking. You may have to login to iTunes and re-download that stuff.

Many of my file have been marked as read-only and marked with the archive attribute in windows XP after using ubuntu, what could cause this? Can't say the reason. Never happened to me and I use linux a lot.You can either fix the files with the gui or by attrib command or might have to take owernship of the files. 1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

Where on your C: are you trying to save the file? Most locations that belong to the OS cannot be used, including (but lot limited to) "Program Files", "Windows" and the root folder. If you're trying to save to another person's "Users" folder, then this may be a permissions issue.

What happens if you try to "Save"/"Save As" the file to your Documents folder or to your Desktop?

I am using the Windows Mail program to receive my Starband email. I am also using VISTA.
About a month ago, when someone would reply to my email, the words (PHISH) or (SPAM) would have been added to the subject line along with the original subject. If I return that email to the sender and it is again returned to me another (PHISH) is added. This can go on indefinitly, as long as the email is recirculated.

Another problem also began about the same time - frequently emails that I send are now being filed in the receivers SPAM or BULK mail.

I understand what (PHISH) and (SPAM) are but have no idea why this has happened.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

Hi, I don't know why my computer is so screwy, but now it seems both of my internal hard drives are marked as read-only. All folders are read-only and I am unable to change the permissions of the folders so I can write to them. I have tried changing the read only attribute from the folder using the button for it, but every time I try to do this, an error message pops up saying "Access is denied". I also tried using the attrib command at the command line, and also some third party utilities for changing permissions. None of these options has worked! I am at my wit's end here!!! I even looked in the BIOS settings and there does not seem to be any options for changing write permissions in the BIOS.

For everyone's information, I have a Dell XPS Studio 9100 computer (yes, I know, it's several years out of date as I bought it in 2011). One of the hard drives is from western digital (I replaced a samsung drive that came with the computer which failed about a year and a half after I bought it), and the other is the secondary drive that is a Samsung which still works fine.

Anyone able to help me here?

Answer:Both internal hard drives marked as read-only - have tried everything

Hi

The attribute "Read only" is not applicable to folders - it's only used by Windows explorer to determine whether it's a special folder like system directories.

Quote:

Unlike the Read-only attribute for a file, the Read-only attribute for a folder is typically ignored by Windows, Windows components and accessories, and other programs. For example, you can delete, rename, and change a folder with the Read-only attribute by using Windows Explorer.

The Read-only and System attributes is only used by Windows Explorer to determine whether the folder is a special folder, such as a system folder that has its view customized by Windows (for example, My Documents, Favorites, Fonts, Downloaded Program Files), or a folder that you customized by using the Customize tab of the folder's Properties dialog box. As a result, Windows Explorer does not allow you to view or change the Read-only or System attributes of folders. When a folder has the Read-Only attribute set it causes Explorer to request the Desktop.ini of that folder to see if any special folder settings need to be set.

In short unlike a file's read only attribute, a folder's read only attribute is only used to determine whether the settings from "desktop.ini" to be loaded or not. Normally you should be able to save files to that folder without problems.

However if System attribute is also applied in addition to read on... Read more

I've got a small Excel file I've tried to save to a diskette, but, after the one time out of many tries it finally did write it, it won't read when I try to look at it, gives me an error message, So, I saved it to a CD-RW, everything went okay, I can read it, but now when I want to update it, it says "Cannot save the file xxxxxx. The file exists and is marked read only. Save the file with another file name or another location." And a couple of times it told me I did not have rights to access this file. I'm the only one on this computer, and I'm listed as the administrator, so I don't understand that either.

All I want to do is overwrite the file to update it every now and then. But I can't. I've always been able to do this on a diskette, but can't even do that now. Is it not possible to do this on a CD-RW? I don't want to write a new file every couple of days. The diskette would be fine if I could get it to work. Can anybody give me some advice?

I'm just using what came on XP Home to burn disc's and always have, because I don't do any music coping and this has always worked fine up until now. Just did a reformat of my computer about three weeks ago, but I can't see why that would be a problem, I put it back just as it was to begin with.

Thanks in advance for any help. And if this info is to be found somewhere else here at TS, I couldn't find it.

Answer:Cannot save Excel file, marked read only

If you leave the disc open, you can overwrite files as long as the disc is a -RW disc and not a standard -R disc. Honestly I've had bad experiences with -RW and leaving discs open. That was ages ago and CD-Rs are so cheap now. O've been told that OfficeXP doesn't like floppy discs. I have no proof of this. I haven't used a floppy in quite some time either.

Yesterday I started having problems with my computer. After some investigation I found that all directories & all files have been marked as "read only". Tried going in and turning off read only but as soon as I hit OK and then look again it's back to read only.

Assume that I've picked up some kind of virus. Have run Nortan AV wiht virus definitions dated 1/27/2006 but it's not finding anything. Cannot download any later definition file cause the existing file is marked read-only.

My system is Windows XP SP2 with pretty much the latest updates.

Any suggestions on what to do next?

Thanks

Hello,

I have new fun problem with Word and Excel documents that I have been editing for years (such as resumes) opening a "read only" doc and when I try to save to its original folder getting an error the drive is either full or that I do not have permissions to write to this folder (such as root C drive). I just now found out I can save to my C:\Downloads folder so I have a workaround. (thank goodness!!)

This problem also extends to any new word or excel doc I try to create and then try to save.
This problem DOES NOT extend to other office Apps and files such as Power Point as old docs do not open as read only can be edited and save as well new PP docs can also be saved to the very folders that Work and Excel are telling me are full or to which my ID does not have permissions.

The OS version I am using is Home Windows 10 and I am using Office 365 with the subscription valid through November.

Lastly I had an Windows update (1703) on July 18th which I suspect is the cause of this issue.

I was on the phone with MS support who was unable to remedy and has bumped me up to a level 2 appointment on Monday.

This morning I noticed my USERS drive had the "Read only" attribute under properties and thought I might have found the fix by removing that attribute. I was prompted to run this change as administrator I clicked continue which my ID is and is also my Windows Live id. The dialogue process box then logged it was removing the attribute from several gi... Read more

Got a new Treo 650 phone here in the office. Finally got it up and running. Only problem now is when the phone does its "push" thru verizon, all of the unread messages get marked read. Computer running XP and emails read in Outlook Express;
but compacted email are in recycle bin

Computer requested I compact the emails which I have done at least twice

However, on checking the recycle bin I note that there are items in there from the OE

I have been checking my recycle bin  and have done a' compact 'of the OE but it seems that the compacting sends things to the recycle bin?

What should happen if the computer asks for the  OE to be compacted? where does it send the compact?

I am having to go through the recycle bin line by line to see what I can safely completely delete but also when I try to restore an item it seems to  make a duplicate in the recycle bin !!

I can still read the emails in OE but where should the compacted emails  actually be saved? And how if at all can I get this corrected?

How if at all can this be corrected or resolved please?

Answer:My C: is marked as dirty.. how i can make it marked as undirty ?

A dirty drive usually shows up at boot. You get a message that one or more drives need checking - press any key to stop the check. It's best to let the check run - can take a while and it's not a good idea to abort the check while it is running.

After the check has finished, there should be a message 'drive C:\ is clean' or similar.

Dual booting with W10 can occasionally show a false dirty status (from Win7) due to 10's hybrid shutdown state being seen as an error condition.

I've seen cmd methods of changing dirty status, but not a good idea IMHO.

Hi, I'm a new member running WinXPsp3, and my question concerns Outlook 2003. I have done searches, but no joy.
My wife and I share a single computer, and a single .pst file . We start OL with different profiles so as to have individual outgoing email IDs.
I'd like for her to see all new daily messages marked as Unread, even if I open them (as opposed to simply previewing them in the Reading Pane). Sometimes I do forget to re-mark opened messages as Unread.
Is there a setting to "Keep messages marked as Unread, whether they have been opened or previewed, unless they are manually marked as Read?" I would rather not to have to remember or do anything.
How about a script that marks Unread all of today's messages as I exit OL? Bad idea? Granted, it will make a bit more work for her, as I do mark as Read the messages addressed to me.
So far, I've unchecked the "Mark as Read" items in Tools-Options-Other-Reading Pane.

Answer:Outlook 2003-Want to open messages, yet keep them marked Unread

You can select a group of emails, right click and mark them unread with one click.

Hey everyone, I appreciate any help with this.

We're moving from one email server to another using google apps, all while using outlook 2013. During the transition (and after, if we can set it up), we have our old server forwarding email to our new email addresses. So [email protected] forwards to [email protected], and we now use [email protected] exclusively. Most email comes from our old account still.

For junk email, we block sender and the message is sent to the spam folder. We also set our @oldmailserver.com and things that aren't spam as 'safe senders' via outlook 2013 and remove them from the spam folder to inbox.

Yet for some unknown reason, some email that is forwarded from our old email addresses are still being marked as spam, even though they're on the safe senders list. Not all of them, just some. Like an email from [email protected] was marked as spam, but not an email from [email protected], yet both are forwarded from [email protected], and both are safe senders.

Any suggestions or further explainations on how this all works is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Outlook 2013 'safe' email marked incorrectly as spam/junk

You may want to look at the junk/spam email's infobar to see how the email was routed to the "Junk E-mail" folder in Outlook 2013. Quote from this link:

Adding the address to the safe list may not prevent future messages from being moved to the junk mail folder, depending on what program moved the message. It could be a 3rd party anti-spam add-in or a rule in Rules Wizard.

My Sent Items and Inbox folders became filled with emails on Tuesday and I was unable to send or receive emails until I removed several thousand old emails from both folders (which I did, then the system was running fine again as of late Tuesday). I discovered this problem when I attempted to send 3 emails with attachments, making the emails around 5 megabytes each in size (I did not realize that the recipient's system could not handle any email more than 2 megabytes - thus, my Outlook Express kept trying to send these emails every 1 minute for 3 hours until I discovered the problem). I had to delete around 100 email notifications that the recipient could not receive emails at that size and that my email boxes were full.

I corrected these problems and relocated the emails from my Outlook Box to Drafts (until the recipient can change his settings).

All day Wednesday (yesterday) I was able to send & receive emails without a problem. This morning I was sending & recieving as well, then all of a sudden, I was unable to receive any emails. When Outlook attempts to receive, I briefly see a box with the number of emails attempting to be received, then I get an Unknown Error message. I am able to send emails without any problem and my Internet connection has been stable all day.

I've rebooted, turned on & off Outlook. I even disconnected my Internet connection, then reconnected it. I've checked my Outlook settings and they are fine. I also turned off my ... Read more

Hi rherrygers

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Have you attempted to logon to your ISP's mail server to see what messages are still on the mail server along with determining the size of the messages?
Outlook Express may be timing out trying to download a message that is larger than normal.
Did you also send yourself a copy of the message with the attachment?

Can you post the exact error message please?
If the Send/Receive window is not appearing, you can make it appear by double clicking the area marked in red here:
When the Send/Receive window appears, click the Errors tab, right click on the error message and select Copy and paste the error message here.

SO I check my work email on my blackberry and receive messages there and also on my Outlook Web Access. However, the issue is that when I am looking at the email panel on my Blackberry (not opening the unread emails), it shows the the emails are marked as 'read' on Outlook even though I never actually opened them on the BB. I know it is not Outlook causing this because the settings are marked for "Do not automatically mark items as Read" setting.

How do I solve this situation? I am missing important emails since I get dozens every day, and I can't keep track of them if they are all marked as Read

Help please?

MS Office Outlook sending emails but no emails to send? I have added a few new accounts to my outlook and have had nothing but problems since. It is important that I keep these emails in my outlook, because I work from home and need to access these accounts. I have recently noticed, whenever I hit send receive, the number rises everyday, which now has me concerned. Each account has a different amount "sending", but nothing is in the outbox. IE: account A: sending 1 of 135, Account B: sending 1 of 1020 and so on. I also read online somewhere that if I was a torrent user, that "is" my problem, but I have stopped using it for weeks and there is no traffic going in or out, and I've turned the program off completely.

I've used Outlook for years, with many accounts and have never had problems. I've noticed more problems since this 'sending' message has started. I also noticed, I was the ONLY one at work not getting any SPAM for at least 2 yrs, UNTIL, I took a few days off, went back to work and BAM, hit with SPAM. Its a bloody nuisance because my accounts are linked with "rules and alerts", so if one is infected, all others follow behind! Has one or all of my accounts been compromised? If so, can it be fixed?

Hi All,

Thanks for reading. I have a web based email which is a 123 webmail one. Up until late last week I was receiving emails no problem since then I have had nothing. It's not that I am unpopular.

I have narrowed the problem down to... I can receive emails sent from Google, Yahoo and Hotmail emails. But whenever an email is sent through outlook this outlook email not only does not arrive but it deletes everything else in my inbox.

My head is about to explode with frustration. I don't know what to do or how to solve this.

Looking for inspiration from anywhere.

Answer:Emails sent from outlook making other emails disappear

Hi and welcome to TSG.

Not sure why mail being sent through Outlook is not actually being sent. Does it report any errors when sending? Are the messages shown as being sent?

If you are having Outlook check for new incoming e-mails on your email account(s), it may be downloading them to your computer and then deleting them from the server. There should be an advanced options setting in Outlook to have it leave incoming messages on the server.

The question really says all about what I want to do, or need help on. I recently signed up for a new outlook account to try out the new outlook preview and I've set up gmail to automatically forward new messages to my outlook account so that I can use outlook to manage my gmail account.

Do any of you know how I would be able to forward the old messages, and not the new ones, to my outlook? I already know that they can be fetched into outlook by outlook's very own service, forwarding would be faster, so..?! Also, since I now use outlook to send email on behalf of my gmail account, how do I make it sync each email I send using outlook with my gmail - so that gmail has it all?

Outlook Express has a tab to fix this-maybe Outlook has the same.
TOOLS/OPTIONS/tab READ
check Mark Messages READ after displaying (add 5 seconds)

Maybe that seconds number has been raised above the time you take to scan messages. OE doesnt care IF you peek at a message-it cares HOW long you stare at it.

Hi guys,

Whenever I use Outlook Express (v5.0.5 for the Mac) to read my email offline, it will try to dial out if there happens to be a URL for a graphic contained within the message somewhere. This makes it almost useless to me if I'm talking on the phone and want to review an email (I only have one phone line and no broadband connection). I have recently switched to OE from Eudora, and there was a way to disable this behavior in Eudora, but I can't find any setting for this in OE (and I've looked in every menu).

So, is there any way to force this behavior (i.e., only fetch images while connected) or should I dump OE? Also, if I do dump OE, which email app would you recommend? I switched to OE because Eudora couldn't handle complex HTML as well as OE.

I'd prefer to keep OE if I can remedy this behavior.
///Dave

Answer:Can't read emails offline with OE 5.0.5 (Mac)

I think (not positive since I'm not at all familiar with Macs) the only way to fix the problem is to change your dialup preferences in Internet Explorer (OE uses the same preferences). You'd have to go to IE>Tools>Internet Options>Connections and check "Never dial a connection." That would also mean you'll have to connect to your ISP manually every time instead of having IE or OE initiate the connection when they're opened.

If I receive mail from an unknown sender, or one with no subject line, I always go to file/properties/message source" to read it.Am I right in thinking this is a safe way to read the mail?I've got NAV in place, updated continually, and have found this always picks up any nasties coming in, and use this really as a "belt and braces".

Answer:Safe way to read emails..?

get mailwasher from the downloads section of this site, you can then delete from server before d/loading to your machine.johnny.

At present i have a hotmail.co.uk account and use Outlook Mail to send and receive, is there a way that i can track my emails and know when they have been read?

Or alternatively change Outlook Mail to give me this facility without changing my email address.

Answer:How can I read my old emails from another laptop?

It is challenging, but doable. Both the new and the old systems must use the same email client program. You then find the location of the files and drop the old email into the proper location on the new pc.

I can document only Thunderbird (TB) but it will serve to give you a starting point.
The TB data is stored at:

c:\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\xxx.default\Mail\xxxemailServerDomain\ -here-

Answer:Can't read attachments from emails

Each attachment should only be opened in the software package that created it.

For instance, a .doc attachment would open in Word, or Open Office or Wordpad.

An .xls attachment needs Excel or open office.

A .jpg needs to be opened with any image editor.

If you use notepad or similar, then you will see pages of garbage text.

Please tell us what the full name of the attachment is, and what software you are using to open it with.

I have Win XP Pro and use Outlook Express. In the past, I received emails and could open them and read them. In the past couple of months, I've gotten emails with attachments that are unreadable. They are full of characters and when I scroll down, I get a huge amount of garbage. There is a message box saying that I have to open Folder Options and create a program from a list that will read this junk.
What happened? I didn't have this problem before. How do i associate a program?
Any help would be very appreciated.

Answer:Emails hard to read

What are the extensions of the attachments?

Did you uninstall any software recently?

Answer:monitoring if emails are read?

http://www.uncc.edu/sysdev/HowTos/Outlook/Receipts.htm

Delivery and Read Receipts are the notices that Outlook sends you whenever an email you send has been delivered to, and read by, the recipient. This option to receive these receipts can be applied to individual emails, or globally, so that you receive a receipt for every email that you send. While you might think this would clutter your Inbox with receipts, the truth is that you can configure Outlook to efficiently manage the way receipts are handled.

Well,
Hotmail.com is just getting worst. I cant even open emails, I can actually see the inbox, but I cant open any of the emails at least that I browse in private navigation in firefox. But I already deleted, coockies, history, cache, updated java.

If I hadnt all my important mails in hotmail, I would already changed to gmail or something.

Thanks

Answer:Cant read my emails on hotmail

Microsoft seems to be making even more "improvements" to Hotmail, so maybe your current problem is, like highway construction, just a "temporary inconvenience."

To make sure that it is not something in your Firefox configuration have you tested with another browser? Or with Firefox's Safe mode?

When my partner logs in to her Hotmail email account on her computer it comes up with 45 emails in her inbox. But she cannot read any of them? When she clicks on any of them nothing happens.Using my computer I can log in to her Hotmail account and get the same 45 emails in her inbox. This time though, when I click on any one of them I can read them. She then sits on my computer and reads/answers all her emails. Alternatively, I forward them to her NTL email address. The problem seems to be with her computer, but what could it be?

Answer:Can't read emails on Hotmail

Its best not to keep emails in the inbox move them to a different folder if you want to keep them,One of the emails may have become corrupted try deleting the last one sent,

Save file with date email was received, not exported out of Outlook, and subject line.

Runing Microsoft Office 2007 in Vista can you import outlook express emails into office outlook and be able to read emails and access outlook express address book as well.

Answer:inport outlook express emails and address book into office outlook in vista

Yes. OUTLOOK - FILE - IMPORT / EXPORT - IMPORT FROM ANOTHER PROGRAM OR FILE - OUTLOOK EXPRESS BTW - I've never tried it (I don't use Outlook Express). You can also try Exporting from Express and Importing to Outlook, though I'd guess the above method will work.
