Preferred Solution: Help needed... game crashes

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Help needed... game crashes

Right click my computer then go into properties then advancedClick on the start up and recovery settingsUncheck Automatically restartNow when you go to play the game and it crashes it will show you a blue screen with an error code.Write down what the error code is and its brief discription.Reboot, come back and tell us what the report said.

I'll keep this short and sweet because I know how busy you guys are.
I built a gaming computer from scratch, there were a lot of problems even getting it working initially this time, as compared to the last one I built that I had zero problems with ever.
I am getting a lot of BSOD's, games freeze and crash, movies freeze and crash, and streaming does too. In addition, I am getting an error occasionally with the GPU that tells me it has timed out and reset the GPU. I used the windows recommended fix for this and set the response timeout time to 8 seconds, since I have done so I have only seen this problem once. I was wondering if I had too little power for my system, but I have seen threads with similar problems that have plenty of power. I followed the instructions to the best of my ability, and you should find all of the information you have asked for below. Please don't hesitate to ask for anything else you may need. I truly appreciate what you guys are doing here for so many people.

IMO, the suggested fixes for the TDR timeout of the video card only conceals the problem - it doesn't fix it.If the card is timing out, then fixing the cause of the timeout is preferable (IMO) to just lengthening the timeout. Unfortunately it appears that the system has pirated software. Please get a legitimate copy installed and we'll be glad to help. Here's suggestions on how to ensure that your version is legitimate:  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/genuinePlease be aware that we may not be able to fix it (as the hacks that were done to activate it will cause the OS to behave differently than we expect it to). If that's the case, our efforts to help may just waste your time. Secondly, the forum rules prohibit assisting with pirated software - so the topic would be closed if that is the case.As a courtesy, I will offer an analysis of your issues using the reports you provided.I will not answer any questions about the analysis until the system is made legitimate. If you do make it legitimate, please submit a new set of reports for us to check.Just FYI, sometimes the owner won't know about this.  So here's 2 scenarios that might ring a bell:- if they had a "friend" help with the computer - and the "friend" installed a pirated copy.- or they used a copy that they had from another OEM computer.  The OEM license is tied to the hardware that it came from - so you can't just use it on another system (that means that it's pirated). And here's the analysis... I've been haveing some trouble with either game crashes or full bluescreen (error 101).
I WAS useing twin GeForce 9600GTs in SLI, I recently upgraded to a HD 7870.
The problem did not change, suggesting that video drivers are not the source... Although altering the drivers with the 9600GTs did seem to effect if the game crashed or full bluescreen crash.
So basicly, the PC works fine untill I play a game (high end and/or minecraft... simple games do not trigger it) at that point, you are on borrowed time. Around 15-120 min. into gameplay, either the game will crash (fatal error bug or no bug report) OR the PC will freeze briefly followed by a blue screen BCCode 101. (Windows 7 64)

I did a simple RAM check, but I did not leave it running for long. I have 3 sticks of 2GB in there, and haveing removed one at a time did not effect the problem. (IE: I took out each stick, leaveing 2 in for a quick and easy method to find a possable faulty RAM chip).

Thus far, it would seem that the CPU in at haveing timeing issues with a core.
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6400+ 3.2 GHz

Could it be overheating? Everything seems to work fine untill I start a game, then it crashes out roughly 30 min into playing. I'm consitering removeing the heat sink, reapplying the thermal paste, and checking if that has any effect. This much I am qualified to do; but is there a way to monitor processor heat levels durring gameplay (I'm sure standard bios heat checks would not show problems). ... Read more

About 3-4 months ago, my uncle placed a GeForce 9500GT video card. It worked nice for games like Dekaron,Rappelz,Oblivion but just about a week ago it crashed on COD2. I thought it was normal but it happened on Left 4 dead too. I started to get worried and thought it was normal but then it kept on crashing on Portal(1st stage, at around 20-30 seconds on the timer) and almost any game i borrow from my friends. It crashed on Warcraft 3, Overlord, Drift City(only in Undercity Mission). Im kinda worried now maybe you guys can help me.

It crashes and sometimes the sound loops but sometimes it doesnt. Im not sure if it's only the monitor because some of my games cant be shut by using ALT F4 and i cant check if it shuts down well. When i unplug, plug and turn it on, there are no warnings or things that say it recovered from an error. It just starts normally. Some people say i have to upgrade my Video card driver but im worried because when i installed a driver on my Laptop , i couldnt turn it on. SO WHAT DO I DO?

If any of you have a radeon card (might apply to nvidia cards too) and you have been experiencing random crashes to desktop / reboots / VPU Recover windows ...Go into you r bios and change the vid card core voltage to 1.7v, if 1.7 doesnt fucntion, use 1.8. That should fix 95% of all of you crashing problems.

I had tried everything to fix these crashes, formatting HD, reinstalling windows...I even bought a new power supply. None of it worked but since i switched to 1.7v I have had no problems in any games and no crashes at all. It was set to the default 1.64v unbeknownst to be.

Anyways if youve tried everything like me...give it a try I think that it will fix it.

Answer:A FIX for random game crashes and Vid Card crashes!

Ummmmmmmmm... I'm sceptical... I think voltages generally aren't meant to be messed with... if you do, just know that you may run the risk of frying your card...
...right??? not all cards run on the same voltage, and if it's supposed to run on something lower, it could get fried, right?? and then if it's supposed to run higher than that, MAYBE some bugs would get fixed, but wouldn't the card also run slower??

Which radeon card do you have anyway?

EDIT actually, it looks like the standard voltage for AGP cards is 1.5v... upping the voltage will (I believe) up performance a little, as well as heat generated. Too high a voltage, however, will result in BSODs and the like.

Question: game crashes, etc

i always get a memory error when playing any game, at all.
not the blue screen, the one where it says "send error report".
next time it happens i can take a screenshot if its needed.

i was going to format my HD but i wanted to find out the cause of these errors.
someone mentioned it could be the physical memory, maybe one of the sticks are dead. i took one out, played something and it crashed about 5-10 minutes into the game. i put that one back in an took the other one out, same deal.

the system is
Athlon 64bit 3000+
512x2 ram (pc2700 or pc3200, i cant remember)
120GB SATA HD
GeForce 6800GT 256ram

any suggestions or help will be appreciated. thanks

Answer:game crashes, etc

I found this on somewhere else after searching all day. i going to try it when i get hom hopefully it will work.

My card is 6600 but i think its on same chipset as 6800.

I did have a problem with random freezing mainly noticed in FarCry (very card stressful) and when attempting to bench in '03

Yes I know there have been several threads but no one has posted a concrete solution. This worked for me and ALOT of other people in the OCUK forum.

First of all I thought heat, then I thought power related. However after lots of testing and forum posts it turns out it was Fast Writes being enabled causing it. I cant take credit but it definitly fixed the problem.

Interestingly disabling it in bios did not disable it in windows and I had to disable it using RivaTuner.Download Here

Also instersetingly for people not experiancing this, disabling Fast Writes appears to allow higher overclocks for people using all types of 6800s.

This appears to be a problem specifically on the nforce3 150/250/Pro/non-pro chipset ironically (as far as we know).

The problem has been posted by people in various places but its never been categorically fixed to my knowledge anyway (I did lots of googling believe me!). So I felt it best to post as a FYI for people.Click to expand...

Hope this helps.

Question: 3D Game Crashes

Hello wonderful forum people

I have a quite strange problem with my games which is sad because I really enjoy playing. I have read a lot of threads on similar subjects but unfortunatley not found any sollution to my problem.

The computer
I have a Epox 4PLA3I mb with a Celeron 2,4GHz processor and 2x256MB ram DDR 3200 from Kingston. My grapics card is a Gecube Radeon 9550GT. I run on 400W and I do not have any additional cooling but the fans that came with the case and processor.

The problem
The problem is that any 3d games (no need to make a list, any games except Civ 3 and solitaire) crashes randomly. The graphics just freezes while the sound keeps on playing and the only thing to do is to reset the computer. sometimes the game crashes after half an hour and sometimes after 5 minutes (always in propotion to the latest save it seems) With the ATI Catalyst I get an error message that the graphics accelerator has been reset and then I can continue playing untill it freezes the third time, Everytime It works three times! Then it says graphics hardware could not be reset please restart the computer.

The troubleshooting
I have tried quite a nuber of changes to fix this but nothing has worked. I tried changing the Graphics card to an old Hercules 64Mb, I tried changing the memory and run on either of the two 256 memories, I've tried a lot of different settings, AGP apperture size, AGP speed, Fast Write, DIMM voltage, AGP voltage. I have tried uppgrading all... Read more

I'm not the greatest with computers, but I build all of my own and I know my way around getting to what I want. This one, I cannot figure. It all started on Aion, had crashing problems that became more and more frequent as I played over the months. Now I cannot open simple games without constant crashes, and I cannot for the life of me figure out what's going on. I recently bought a new stick of 512mb (pc3200) double sided hynix ddr which is exactly the same as the stick already in my computer, same speed, same brand. my computer is: Abit KV7
Athlon xp 2500+
hynix 512mb ddr
geforce 4 mx 440
And ever since i put the new stick of ram in every time i go to play most of my games eg, doom3 and painkiller it comes up with a windows error and makes the game crash, but when i take the either of the sticks out and leave 1 remaining everything works fine. Since both the ram sticks are exactly the same i was thinking maybe there is something wrong with my motherboard but i dont know, someone please help.

Hello!

I need help on some things. I just recently bought a new nVidia 6200 256MB video card and had some problems when I tried to play some games(Call of Duty, Age of Empires 3 Demo, Nosferatu). It worked fine the day before but after I installed a program (PowerDVD, I think or something; it came with the DVD-RW drive I just bought) I noticed that the system would freeze up after a few minutes of playing. Before I installed the program, I had no problems whatsoever when I played those games: now it seems I cannot play for more than a few minutes. The computer only crashes when I play; I watched a movie and experienced no problems at all. I also don't think it's an overheating issue, although I could be wrong.

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

My bare system specs:

AMD Sempron 2400+
Inno3D nVidia 6200 256MB
- driver version is 6.14.0010.9147
384MB RAM
Direct X 9.0c

Answer:Help with Game Crashes

First of all: Welcome to TechSpot! Hope you'll love this place as much as I do!

Now, when you installed the new drive, did you make sure not to toss around other things like fan cables? If you accidentally pulled one out of it's socked then that could be a reason for overheating.

Another scenario is that, before you installed the new drive, the ventilation inside your was already bad and after you installed the drive it became worse. Keep in mind that I'm guessing here as I don't know the inner layout of your case.

Third scenario is that your PSU simply isn't powerful enough to run your system. The GPU draws more power when rendering 3D than it does in 2D mode.

To test whether or not it's a temperature problem, download the free application SpeedFan and post your temperatures.

Could you tell us what the BSOD message was. Generally they consist of 3 parts - a symbolic name (the name is all caps with _ between the words), a STOP Error (a long string of numbers that usually looks something like this - 0x0000007b and is followed by even more numbers and letters), and sometimes there's a filename pointing to where the error occurred.

My games crash at random times, and I've had this happen in more than one game so it's not a problem with a specific program. My monitor gets a blank screen and reads "No signal" and I'm forced to restart my computer for it to work again. I'm using Windows XP SP3.

It only has this crash when I play games.

This is the 12.0GB RAM 1TB 5400 RPM+8GB SSHD Y40  I have installed a few games on this supposed "gaming" laptop and every single one crashes about 3 mins in. I have set them all to "High Performance" in the AMD Catatalyst Control Center so they should all be running on AMD graphics, yet this computer can't handle any game I've tried even on low settings(Skyrim, Dragon Age, Mass Effect.)  Sometimes I'm able to open the Task Manager and close the non responsive game, other times the entire computer freezes and the only way to back out is turning it off with the power button. I just don't understand what's going on here. Is the graphics card kaput? I don't even know where to start trying to fix this I'm just incredibly dissapointed in this product :/

Question: Game Crashes

I'm going to do some more work on this when I get home but I thought I'd fish for suggestions first.

I've had instability on some games for a little while, WOW crashes to desktop with IRQL NOT LESS THAN OR EQUAL errors and protection faults. DOW DC crashes to desktop frequently when LAN gaming, I also get crashes with DOD, BF2 and Raven shield.

I'm positive the hardware is good, RAM and CPU are fully stress tested with Memtest86 and prime95, i've used ATItool with the graphics card to scan for artifacts.

I'm thinking its a driver or resource sharing issue. i've tried using different forceware drivers for the GFX and i've updated the creative drivers for the Sound card. Nforce dirvers are up to date.

Answer:Game Crashes

anything shown in the event viewer? maybe hard drive problem but unlikely.

did you install the nvidia firewall? that can cause problems...sounds like you have done the most you can to check hardware. Could do a repair of xp and install the drivers a fresh in a worst case scenario.

Question: Game Crashes

Ok, so I play WoW, HL2 and have been trying to play the new TF2 but my game freezes up while I am playing at random times and i have to manually restart my computer to be able to do anything. I have a feeling that it has something to do with directx because a friend of mine suggested that I change my 3d engine to opengl instead of directx which I have done on WoW and now it doesn't crash. I should also note that these games didn't use to crash either. However running the game on opengl makes it much laggier and if i can pinpoint the problem it would be a huge relief because right now I'm thinking about buying a new computer.

Processor Amd Athlon 64 Processor 3200+
1gb ram
directx version 9.0c
Geforce 6600 GT

All drivers have been updated as well

Answer:Game Crashes

Could be an overheating problem, the PC is protecting itself from damage by shutting down rather than damaging it self. Check the PSU, all the Fans esp. the CPU on the CPU itself. Also make sure all the PCI cards are slotted in securely.

If possible install a tool the monitor PC temperatures to see where the issue is.

Hi wart and welcome to TSF.

Can you download and run Speccy for me. Once the program has gathered the required information, go to the top of the Speccy window and do File>Publish Snapshop. Click Yes when prompted. Now copy and paste the URL address that it gives you to your next post.

Is this the only problem you are experiencing with your laptop?

Can you check you Device Manager for any warnings (yellow exclamation points) next to anything.
Right click on 'My Computer' and select 'Manage'. In the Computer Management window, select 'Device Manager' on the left and look for any warning signs.

Man, do I need help!
Just built a new system:

30gig HD + 120gig HD
512mb 2700 DDR
DVD player
CDR-WR
SB Live 5.1
Geforce4 Ti4200
XP Pro

I did some parts swapping when I could. I have installed every new driver, XP is completely up to date. (just checked it again)
I even updated the BIOS on my mobo.

When I am running graphics programs (ie, photoshop, illustrator, macromedia, even 3d programs like 3dMAX) no problem.
The second I want to play a game (MOHAA, NOLF2, Marrowinds...etc.) I can play about 10-30min. then the systems crashes sometimes to the desktop sometimes it restarts the system.

I thought it might be my video card, but I swapped it with an old
ATI 7000 32mb card, and got the same results.

Next, I ran the memory check software from MS, thinking the ram was bad, but it didn't find anything.

Lastly I removed the sound card and used the sound off the mobo. still no luck!

Any help, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:More XP game crashes

Maybe a heat issue? You're cranking the CPU with the games firing. I had that problem a while back so I took my covers off and pointed a kingsize fan right into the box and no more crashes. So I bought hardware to keep the box cooler. Also I had problems with Soundblaster in the past causing games to stutter, hiccup or just reset or crash to desktop. Make sure ya got their latest drivers. I've removed the soundblaster card and work off the on-board sound system that came with the Mobo.

Question: XP Crashes game

Brief History:-

My PC worked fine. I buy a new game, Rally Sport Challenge.
It plays then crashes. I figure I need a Sound Blaster card.
I Bought one, Installed it and hey presto.. Problem fixed.

Days later I went to play Favourite my game (empire Earth), this plays for a while then crashes, either to desk top or to a system reboot.

Various people suggest that it is a driver issue.
So I down load the latest drivers installed them. Still no good. I try using XP's Compatability mode, still no good, I also tried formatting pc no good.

I rang the tech support line. After some suggestions (drivers etc) they gave up as the game is not listed as XP compatable on the box.

To my mind it had worked, so it should work. any ideas. This is very frustrating.

Latest attempt resulted in a memory error, some thing like tried writing to oxobf67400 and failed?

Things seem to be going from bad to worse.

I can move the mouse around and look all around a 3d game but can't actually play. This happens with every game I try to load. This wouldn't be so bad if I hadn't already reformatted and have it doing the same thing. If that wasn't bad enough my laptop that I've had for 5 months is doing the same thing now. this is bad cause they have 2 different configurations and are running different operating systems. hello and thanks to anyone who can help me. i recently built a gaming computer for playing some high end games but to tink around with as well. everything on the computer works fine except that it gradually will decrease its performance and increase its errors even if nothing is done to it. i will eventually completely reformat the harddrive using the windows XP disk and everything will be fine. after reintalling everything the compuuter works without a hitch for about a month. then programs start crashing. restarrting the computer fixes them for a while but they start to happen more and more frequently. it has gotten to the point now where things are working fine except my games which will always shut down while loading maps. no errors message or anything. i have run diagnostic programs and have manually checked many things but nothing seems to make a difference. any ideas will help. thanks alot again.-Paul

Hey, everyone. I've been having the same problem for more than 8 months and cant seem to find a solution.

Backround: bought counter-strike source, was running it with a ati 9200 se, wanted to increase my fps and graphics. So I went out and bought an bfg gforce 6600gtoc, another 512 of pc2700 ram, and a 550 watt p.s.

Now whenever I try to play source I get a datacache.dll error (they're working on it, hopefully solved soon). But when I try to play FEAR, or BF2, I get constant crashes to desktop, while loading a map or such.

Sidenote: I play counter-strike 1.6 and condition zero all the time with no crashes.

Here's what I'm running.

Pentium 4, 2.8ghz
1 gig pc2700 ram
gforce 6600gtoc
some 80 gig h/d
ThameStar 550 watt atx p.s
(all the latest drivers...except mobo drivers)

After reading another post on this forum, it seems that my cheapo power supply might be the culprite? How can I know for sure?

I'm really stumped and just want to play these games.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance

Answer:Need Help With Game Crashes

It could be the power supply and also some left over crap from the old ATI driver. Also the 6600GTs run very hot so they need alot of cooling.

Question: Game Crashes

I'm sure this has been talked about quite a bit but I can't seem to find any fix for my issue that works for me.

Every game I have crashes. It doesn't happen all the time and it is completely random. It doesn't crash when I'm not playing a game. When it crashes my game the last sound I heard just continuously loops and it won't let me alt+tab or ctrl+alt+del and I have to do a hard reset. This didn't happen with Vista 32 bit with the same hardware.

I love 64 bit Vista and I would really hate to have to go back to 32 bit if at all possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:PC Crashes In-Game

If it only happens with games that need a lot of resourses then it might be a grafic card or driver issue. Alternatively the cooling system on you grafic card might need to be cleaned.

If you could give your pc spec's and what type of game are causing the problem.

Question: Game Crashes

Hi,

I wasn't sure where to put this!

The two games I have recently been playing are CS:S and Warcraft III, after a while of playing the sound on the game freezes on one bit of noise and the screen freezes with grey squares everywhere.

I thought it was a cooling problem to begin with as my CPU was getting as hot as 80 degrees celsius, but I fitted a new fan and now average about 30 degrees celsius, even when playing games.

When I put in the fan I refitted the whole case, and for a few days after that I had no crashing problems, but now they have come back.

I don't know what is useful so I will just list everything.

Graphics card: ATI Radeon 4870
PSU: Enermax Liberty 620W
CPU: Core 2 Quad 2.66MHz
MB: Gigabyte X48T-DQ6
RAM: 4GB DDR3 Corsair

My graphics card averages about 66 degrees celsius.

I don't know if I connected the power to the card wrong, it was supplied with a connector which plugged into the card and then is powered by molex. But when I turned the computer on a message displayed saying I needed to plug another cable in, so I plugged one of my PSU's modular PCI-E cables directly into the other empty slot on the graphics card, then it worked fine.

I just ran memtest86+ and it found no errors.

Any help will be useful!

Attached is my minidump folder, and the two files that were created by the guide in the sticky.

The problem I am having is that while playing only certain games, such as civ 5 or a sims game, (but in others like League of Legends or tf2 it doesn't), my computer will just crash outright, I don't even see the bluescreen on crash. My computer stays powered on but without any display output to the monitor. In addition when I restart I do get an error message saying that the error was a bluescreen.

I've attempted to check the event viewer for problems but their is nothing in it that helps me diagnose the problem. Question: Game Crashes

Hey, I just recently purchased Call of Duty: Ghosts and my computer not only reached the minimum requirements it surpassed them by quite a bit, enough to which I should be able to run the game on maximum graphics. Every time I open up singleplayer and multiplayer when I enter a game, I get these dreaded distorted pixels, freezing and then my game crashes no more than 5 seconds later. The error is that its not responding and nothing else. I don't know if this is the proper topic to put this in but I just want to fix this problem I'm not afraid to go buy a new part.

Hi and welcome to TSG.

What is the exact make, model and wattage of your power supply (PSU)?
Have you ever upgraded / changed any hardware in it?

It sounds like a possible power, overheating or perhaps a driver problem. Is your Windows installation and all your drivers fully patched and up to date?

Download and install HWMonitor (its free), run the program with your PC sat idle at the desktop and screenshot the full HWMonitor window.

Do you have any currently installed games that work without a problem?

Do you know exactly what graphics card you have rather than just 5900 series? Something like HD5970?

I'm running xp home sp2, and explorer.exe, DrWatsonPostmordemDebugger, AIM, & MSN crash whenever I try to run a game. So recently I did a non-destructive format, so that put me back on sp1. So when it was finished, I ran the game and it worked perfectly. Then came the updates... It still worked fine until last nights updates, I know one of these things is causing the error, since I didnt install anything new between now and last night. Thanks to the update history on Microsoft, I got the list of the programs that were installed. Could you guys look at it and tell me if theres a known error with any of these updates? I'm posting Tuesday's also because it's mainly full of security updates, and I remember reading something that said those updates could be the problem. If you guys need any more info, just post and I'll get it for you.

Let's try looking at these 2 sets of reports:1)  Please run this report collecting tool (even though you may not be reporting BSOD's) so we can provide a complete analysis:  http://omgdebugging.com/bsod-inspector/When done a Notepad document will open with the name of the file and it's location.By default it'll be a .zip file located on your DesktopSimply upload the .zip file with your next post and we'll move on from there. If it doesn't work for you, then please try this:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/2)  Please do the following:- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")- right click on the "Administrative Events" heading- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."- save the file as Admin.evtx- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility:  http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

Answer:Any Game Crashes

1) dont type in all caps....its considered yelling and its somewhat hard to read. also, paragraphs and punctuation are our friends

2) boot into safe mode (tap f8 before windows starts and choose safe mode

3) right click on "my computer" select properties, hardware, device manager.

4) click the plus sign next to "display device", highlight all entries and delete them.

5) reboot into normal mode.

6) reinstall drivers.
if that doesnt work, then we need a little more information.

1) how much system RAM do you have?

2) give me an example of one game that is crashing

3) what is the EXACT (word for word) error message.

Question: Game Crashes

I just got a new pc, have gotten all updates and drivers for it.
Anyway, it came with some game "Joint Operations" , i can play the game offline fine, no problems, when i go online, after a minute of playing, my computer freezes, i cant do anything, the little pc loading light on the box isnt flashing, so i have to restart.
The same thing is happening with the BF2 demo, i can play it offline, but when i play online, freezes.
However when i play guild wars online, no problems.
Can anyone help me?
my specs are.

AMD64 Athlon 3200+ socket 939
2x512mb geil dual channel PC3200 400mhz Ram
GA-K8N gigabyte mobo socket 939
Gigabyte Geforce 6600GT 128mb PCI-e
D link DGE-530T network card

Answer:Game Crashes

uh...it could be your video card settings...while playing the games online check your ping/latency before your computer freezes..if it is really high i would think it is the video card...if so turn the settings down a bit...i'm not really sure what could be causing this

Question: Game crashes

I just finished building my custom gaming pc, my connections are all right and my PCs temp is low but whenever I try to play Battlefield 1942 or Homeworld 2 it works perfectly for about a minute then either locks up, restarts my system or goes to a blue screen that occasionly has info on it that is only up for about a second so I don't have time to read it. All my drivers are up to date so what could be the problem? Any help would be greatly apriciated. Thanks. PS all my system specs are on my profile.

Answer:Game crashes

Nice System ...You're running Windows XP right?

Also has the system had a different video card in it before this one?

Check for IRQ conflicts(Right Click on My computer, click Properties, Hardware Tab, Device Manager)

Couple other things, do you have the latest AGP driver for that motherboard?

And perhaps try setting your AGP to 4x instead of 8x...heard of some issues with certain mobos and the 9800XT at 8x..

To be sure, DL and install both Adaware and Spybot S&D.
Before you run those scans, use the update-function in both programs first.

Have you checked the temperature of your mobo? Are all the fans in your PC working, especially those on CPU and graphics card?

Is your PSU strong enough for whatever you attach onto it?

Question: Game Crashes

Hi all,Can I ask what causes a game to crash? I am aware of the fact that a number of reasons may be responsible but when other games run absolutely fine and this one crashes it seems weird. Can anyone educate me as to what happens when a game crashes?

Answer:Game Crashes

May get you thinking.More often than not, today's software is bloated. Not to keep bagging on Microsoft, but with each new version of Windows, and Games software, millions of lines of code get added. The more lines of code, the more likely chance of bugs. You can either say that software companies add more features to software in order to sell new versions of it, or that we users keep demanding more. Either way, many of us try to run that bloated software on the ultra-cheap PCs available today. Well, those PCs are cheap because the hardware inside them isn't top-quality, further increasing the chance of crashes. Furthermore, PC manufacturers didn't have reliability in mind when they started this wild and crazy ride that's been dubbed the PC revolution. The goal has always been to produce PCs that the average person can afford, not to create super machines that are as stable as mainframe computers. It's a trade-off. Do you want a PC that crashes now and again or one that costs many thousands of pounds? Another reason why PCs crash is DLLssssssssssss incompatibility. This problem is so prevalent that the term "DLL Hell" has become commonplace. DLLs (dynamic link libraries) are small programs that larger programs rely on in order to accomplish tasks. Often, a DLL is shared among many applications. Microsoft Word, and Excel, for example, would use the same DLL to send documents to the printer. When you install new software, it can potentially overwrite a necessary DLL with an olde... Read more

So my computer decides to randomly crash when playing games.
I play games like Skyrim, Black ops 2 and Test Drive Unlimited 2.

When playing, i will play for maybe 30 minutes, or less, then the game will suddenly stop while performing an action like saving or just clicking on an object game.

-First the game freezes for some seconds
-Then the screen turns all black
-Then it turns white
-Then it crashes to desktop with the game still running, but the whole screen is black except the taskbar, and i cannot close the game.

I dont really know how to find out my specs, as im a total noob at this but i know this:
Graphics Card: Radeon 270x
CPU: AMD FX-4350 Quad-Core

I wouldnt say the games i play are very demanding, so i doubt theres any overheating, though as said, im a total noob at this.

Also, i have tried updated both catalyst and my graphics card drivers, and the error still occurs.

Help, very appreciated! Thanks =)

Hey...

Almost all of the games that i play crash sometimes and then recover again.
Sometimes it ends up with BSOD. For Example, Crysis, Flight Simulator X, Prototype, CSS, World Of Warcraft work fine.. no crashes or anything but Fuel - Crash/BSOD, Cod4 - Crash, Call Of Yuarez: Bound In Blood - Crash/BSoD, Riddick: Assault On Dark Athena - Constant Crashes and BSOD (UNPLAYABLE) and that list can go on forever i guess.

PC Specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 @ 2.20GHz
3GB RAM (1x 2GB, 1x 1GB)
Club3d HD4850 512mb Overclocked Edition (Latest drivers)
580W PSU

Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit Service Pack 2

RAM - tested, No errors with over 700% coverage

Scanned whole PC With AVG Free. It found a bunch of cookies but i successfully deleted them
Scanned with spybod S&d - Clean

NO overheating problems.

I have heard some people update their PC bios... what's that and how is it good? I have never done that.
Ask me if you need more information.

EDIT: Oh and the PC is 2-3 years old. I have upgraded RAM (originally 2x1GB, PSU (Originally a crappy 400w PSU) and GPU (Originally POV 8600GT 512mb) . And please don't tell me i need to buy something new. Let's not make this thread a shopping mall.

It may seem weird to blame a motherboard for in-game random crashes and reboots, but after intensive testing I have narrowed it down to just that. What happens is, when I'm playing ANY 3D game, it randomly (usually between 5-30 mins) crashes my game either to desktop or restarts my computer without any warning, and follows up with a windows error report. This happens in all of the games I play including: Doom 3. Battlefield 1942, Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf 2004 & 2005, Everquest 2, Need for Speed Underground 2, and more.
Why I think it's the motherboard:
I went to my friends house who has the exact same MB and CPU as me (we bought it from same place, same time). I unplugged ALL unnecessary hardware leaving behind the MB, CPU, vid card, ram and HDD (on both computers). Then I took my CPU, RAM, vid card and HDD and plugged it into my friends motherboard while his stuff was plugged into my motherboard. I ran his computer with my stuff and within a 2 hour span of playing intense games crashed only once On the other hand, my motherboard with his stuff has crashed 9 times within that same 2 hour span, playing the same games.

I have done MANY other experiments to test other components of the computer with no avail. My last test was the one mentioned above which proves the motherboard is either faulty or damaged (which couldn't be the case as I am an expert in handling computer hardware).

Why it's not the motherboard:
After all that testing, I sent it bac... Read more

Seems like battery from your penultimate paragraph but the only way that could impact in the other problems would be if the BIOS was resetting during operation and I can't think how that can happen.

I dunno why but the game will run normally for about ten minutes then itll freeze. Sometimes it runs fine for ages and sometimes itll lock up within 30 seconds. The games it tends to affect are Pirates of the Caribbean, Railroad Tycoon 3 and Medieval: Total war.

I meet all the sys spec requirements for both and its not an overheating problem (I aimed the biggest fan I could find into it and it didnt help).

Hey there, welcome to the forums,

Now onto your problem, are there any error messages which appear, and I know you mentioned in all of your games, but does the same behavior occur in every game you have tried? Is there some program which is activating which is cause your games to minimize?

I'm getting random game and computer crashes when playing games.( Half Life 2, BF 2, Quake4, FEAR ) I have made sure everything was up to date but no difference. I recently went back to 6.5 Omegas and seems to crash a little less. My question is that I don't know anything about the various setting in the control panel so I left them at there default. Should I try changing any settings and if so to what?

Hi guys.
Basic problem is that my computer freezes every time i start a game. I'm assuming this has something to do with the video card.

My steps so far have been to format my HD and re-install windows vista. I have not connected to the internet since re-installing windows so I am almost certain I have no viruses.

The problem occurred whilst playing a game, the computer froze and was totally non-responsive - even to ctrl+alt+del.

Sometimes when I switch it on, it loads up until the login screen which stays blank.
I have found that I can start it up successfully in safe mode.

My specs are as followed:

Manufacturer: Dell Inspiron 531
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 5600+ 2.81 ghz
RAM: 3582mb
System type: 32-bit OS
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8300 GS
OS: Vista Home Premium

If you need anymore info pls ask

Not sure what else to tell ya bout it. Anyways, here's my problem.

Now I was monitoring the temperatures of both gpus and they were easily in operating range. Case was blowing cool air most of the time. Got fed up and assumed my GPU was toast. Just picked up a evga gtx 460 se, popped it in and not even a half hour into it it crashed with this exact screen. Sometimes there are a lot more lines going all over.

Any ideas? I guess I'm kinda a techie novice but I've done all I can think of. Maybe faulty ram?? Thanks guys/gals. Hope to hear from someone soon :D

My problem is this: When I ran Oblivion (With or without oldblivion) it loads the menu, but when I click on new game, it shows the crosshair for a second and then crashes - Error displayed by xfire is below. It crashes with or without xfire running.

Alright, I've browsed, I've prodded, I've poked, and like many others, I got the BSoD.

For awhile, my PC has been shutting down at random when playing a game. It wasn't even power-sucking games half the time either; Counter-Strike and Warcraft III would make my system crash while Half-Life 2 and World of Warcraft ran perfectly fine and caused no errors.

The crash, as I've said, happened randomly. It could've been 2 minutes into playing or 2 hours. I asked somewhere else, and was told it could've been my memory. I ran memtest86+ on that, and there was no problem.

Following that, I was stumped. I had been regularly updating sound and video card drivers, so I assumed it wasn't one of those. Then I finally realised that to get a BSoD, I had to turn off the automatically restart option.

After doing so, I loaded up the widowmaker, and just as I was about to rescue Grom Hellscream, I got the following error on a BSoD:

blahblah blah, error seems to be caused by ATI2cqag.dll

PAGE_FUALT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

ati2cqag.dll - Address BFA36808 base at BFA16000, DateStamp 4383d753
So, from this I assume the problem is the video card, but it's not the drivers. Could it be dust or dirt? I also cleaned it recently.

I just spent all night downloading TF2 from Steam so I could play it on my trip, and now it won't run... it works fine, up until I try to join a server. None of the servers respond when I select one from the list, although if I click refresh repeatedly, some of them will eventually connect.

However, once it connects, it will take a long time to load the game data, and then crash on 'sending client info.' hl2.exe throws an exception, and a block of the screen locks up until error reporting finishes, which takes an unusually long time.

Mobile Intel 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Graphics Chipset
Windows XP Home SP2
Hardware DirectX 8.1, Software DirectX 9.0c

I did look through the grapics options and made sure everything was turned all the way down, and the game client didn't seem to have an objection to my hardware configuration... even recommended higher settings than I used.

So, how can I play some TF2?

Answer:TF2 Crashes when joining a game

Well your processor is just barely above the minimum. That could be part fo the problem. A 1.2 is minimal while a 2.4 is recommended and a 3.4 is optimal.

Hey everyone,
I recently set up my computer build and have been experiencing problems with my games crashing on me for example, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, or Player Unknown's Battle Grounds. Here's what I've tried so far.
- Lowering CPU voltage from 1.072 to 1.035 (any lower and my computer crashes on me)
- I've run prime 95 for a while and my temps slowly increase to 100 degrees celsius over time
- Downgrading my graphics card driver and also trying the latest one
- Verifying game files in steam - Making sure my windows is updated by hitting "check for updates"

i recently bought a gaming PC Laptop that runs the newest games at maximum setting with no problem at all, recently a game that i played in the past on the same computer started crashing randomly without any warning or any action within the game that seems to correspond with the game crashing. the game is called Civilization 5 which was released in 2011. i can play games that are as new as 2013 and 2014 for consoles with no lag no hang-ups and no random crashes i can also play games as old as 2008 without having to change my compatibility. Just to be clear my video drivers are up to date, i have all the resent updates for windows 8.1 and can play much more demanding games with no issues what so ever, i also played this game in the past on the pc with no problem. the only actions that i have done that might have something to do with the game crashing is that i both installed NORTON antivirus and windows 8.1 which i would think would be the problem but i would suspect that other games would crash as well. I?ve looked at forums random guesses at best with nothing but endless rants of discontent. My question is, is this the game is it my pc? I?m totally in the dark here......

Hey there, using an i5 quad core, 4 gigs of ram, P55A Fuzion MB, with (most importantly) a Radeon HD 6870 graphics care (1 gig). Had no problems with this rig for the 2+ years I have owned it, ran everything perfectly (primarily a gaming machine).

Recently though when trying to run NWN 2 there was some graphical freezing (the graphics driver crashing, and me having to alt-tab back to windows to contiue). As first I thought it was just a problem of the game being old and not compatible with DX12, but the 'problem' has spread to other games also: namely Dark Souls 2 and League of Legends. Now any game I try and run that is more graphically demanding than hearthstone freezes, goes to black and freezes my PC within seconds of loading up.

I've tried deleting the drivers and reinstalling them (I have the latest version), tried cleaning all the gunk out of my PC to keep the temp down (graphics card runs at a constant 70celc), none of it made any difference... recently when watching a stream on twitch I also had a similar crash

No idea what's going wrong, and I'm at the extent of my limited knowledge.

Any help would be massivly appreciate, thankyou.

Hi, i just started having this problem a few days ago. I play in a laptop, and i know that is not recommended because of the specs but i usually only play League of legends which don't represent much trouble running in my PC.  But now whenever i'm 5 or more minutes in game the PC crashes with the screen freezing and the sound loops itself. I run several test which told me the the graphic card was running ok. My specs are:Model: Inspiron 5558Bios: A13CPU:  Intel Core i7 - 5500UGPU: Intel HD Graphics 5500I just update the drivers manually just to see if it solved my problem, but i dont know if i did it right. Thank you very much for your attention, and sorry for my bad English.  Edit: Moved topic from Computer Gaming to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

Recent problem - two main games im trying to play are settler 7 and Starcraft 2

I have been playing Starcraft 2 since it came out but recently whenever i try to play a game it loads opening graphics and screens but just before i get to the menu where you can choose to actually play the game my computer freezes up .. wierd graphical snow on the screen total freeze .. cannot ctl+alt+delete or anything .. have to hard shut down and turn back on the computer .. it comes back up fine but same thing happens when trying to reload the game.

Troubleshooting -
- have gotten new drivers for graphics cards and monitors
/seems to be a graphics problem.
-found a new driver for my bios - installed this
- cant seem to find a new driver for my sound card that works but i dont imagine this is the problem
-after downloading new drivers didnt work i restored my pc to a point where it used to play starcraft fine .. this didnt work still freezing with graphics looking nasty

- i guess im kinda stuck thinking its a driver problem .. computer is only about 1 year old . and it should and did handle any of these games with ease ..

- the problem really started when i tried to run settlers 7 .. first time i played it it let me play for about 2 hours .. then during the 2nd mission this same thing happened computer froze graphic glitch .. rebooted
- then i tried to reload the game .. steam game btw downloaded through them - now it was happening about 30 seconds into the intro

As the title says, I tend to have crashes during the middle of a game. These bring me to a black screen, the audio turns off, and the lights on my keyboard stop working. Lowering graphic settings does nothing noticeable to help this either. There is no noticeable correlations between the crashes either. This happens in many downloaded games I play (The Forest, Titanfall, Battlefield, Counter Strike). Games that it doesn't happen in are Minecraft, League of Legends, and Smite. Before I continue on this post in leaving all of my computer specs, a reply would be appreciated to this so I know the thread will be continued, and so I know what types of information I should be sharing.
-Thanks!

So I built this computer, right? And I'm all like a carney with a new ride, all excited and shit. So I install the Riddick game, Doom 3, and Dawn of War. Half-Life to and WoW wont run until I get my internet connection on monday, which I can deal with. I'm posting this from my room mate's pc. Anyhoo, start playing the games, and within a few hours I come to the realization that every single game is crashing. Not even in the same place, but anywhere, it doesn't even have to be in gameplay for Dawn of War. I downloaded the newest driver for my vid card (GeForce 6800GT) and installed it, to no avail. I'm using Direct X 9.0c. I have no idea what the problem is. Anyone have any ideas?

I am trying to download an mmorpg called Eden eternal but every time I press start game the window just disappears and nothing happens. I looked at lots of forum posts and nothing seemed to work. I just updated my windows 7 and pressed troubleshoot compatibility. Now when it starts loading the game it says FTP can't connect, waiting to retry download. It used to work on this computer.

Download and save the TSG System Information Utility (SysInfo.exe) to the desktop.

After it's been downloaded and saved, double-click it to run it.

Information about your computer will appear.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE text here.

Now I had my old PC on a spec that was running yet within the last 2 months it started crashing every time it would render a game or try to render anything that seemed to have some sort of 3D engine applied to it. Anyway I go out and pretty much replace my entire system RAM, CPU, G-Card, MBoard, PSU and pretty much the only thing I haven't replaced is the case. Anyway I install windows and about a week later I seem to be reciving the same problem, then I reformat and it is fixed for a while before it happens again and it crashes do a black screen with a loud screeching sound. When I run my on board nVidia card it seems to work ok.

This problem seems to occur quickly when I install all the windows updates straight away otherwise nothing happens.

Does anyone know if this is a software problem since well im pretty sure it not my hardware.

Answer:Game Loads PC Crashes

could be a direct x problem, make sure you have a good copy installed, also since it is an old PC try replacing the CMOS battery.

Hello!
I was wondering if someone could help me with this problem that i'm having. It seems that something has gone wrong with my GPU, for a couple of months now it has been crashing every time I start up a game.
My PC is very old, it has been repaired countless times and right now the only things that are still 'original' inside are the GPU and the CPU. Earlier this year my motherboard died and had to be replaced, before that however, my GPU would overheat every hour or so whilst playing games. The GPU hasn't overheated once since the motherboard was replaced but a few weeks after the repair it started crashing. The crashes occur very randomly. Sometimes when watching movies (rarely), most of the times when I turn on a game. In the menu it will crash but during gameplay it will be normal. I can play for hours on end without a single problem but when I start up a game there is a high chance that it will crash and that I will have to restart the PC.
Can this be fixed without having to buy a new GPU? Help would be most appreciated!
href here is my GPU, very old but very reliable (At least up till now, had the PC for 9 years)

Ok, I just got a Dimension XPS Gen 3 last week.
P4 processor 3.60 GHz
XP Home
ATI Raedon x800 XT
1 GB RAM, 160 GB hard drive

When I installed GTA: Vice City, I would try to start up the game and it would just crash to a black screen, and I would have to power it off.

Decided to try The Sims 2 on it to see if it reacted the same way, and of course it did. Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal also reacted that way.

I did dxdiag to check my Direct X stuff, and the first two tests (black & white rectangles, non-fullscreen bouncing white square) were fine, but it crashed in full-screen mode. I did a system restore to the beginning just in case something corrupted direct x. It still didn't work.

Interestingly enough, I did a full reformat of the hard drive, and now the dxdiag tests work fine. GTA: Vice City also seems to work as well now, although I haven't played it longer than 20 minutes to really find out.

BUT, The Sims 2 still crashes... both in full-screen and in windowed mode. I would wonder if it was just a problem with that game, had all the previous stuff not happened... but frankly, my new computer should have been able to run GTA: Vice City without a full reformat.

Other info:
- after the reformat, I have no anti-virus software installed (that comp isn't connected to the internet anyway), and I disabled windows firewall
- there are only the necessary background tasks running

... any suggestions?

Answer:ATI x800 XT and game crashes...

1. Get an anti-virus. No matter if your PC is connected to the Internet or not.

2. Sims 2. Do you have the latest DirectX? If not, that could be the problem, but it shouldn't have installed...

Perhaps it is the CD itself. Try another copy of a friend's or something and test it. If it does work, return it and exchange it. If not...well someone'll think of something.

Hi,
I have a nVidia GeForce 6100 M9 mainboard with AMD Athlon 64 4000 CPU.
I use a "e-GeForce 7600 GS 256mb" PCIe Graphics card. My monitor is a Systemax 19" (have no idea...) -
500w power supply & 1G memory.
When playing War Rock my game frequently crashes to desktop (quits altogether).
I want it to stop. I own two of the GeForce 7600 cards... could I install them both and if I can, how & would it help? If not, do you have any suggestions on what I can do to make game more stable-- without making it ugly?

Thanks,
CzarinaOz
