Outlook "Unknown Error 0x8007007E"

Question: Outlook "Unknown Error 0x8007007E"

I recently replaced the hard disk on my Dell PC using the disk copy utility which came with the hard disk. Everything seemed OK until I tried to run Microsoft Office 2003 applications. The main problem is Outlook which gives me the error "Unknown Error 0x8007007E" when trying to receive email. I can send mail with no problems. Other Office apps (Word, Excel) launch but give me a "Preparing to install" window when loading. I was unable to run the Office repair utility or even uninstall/reinstall the package. Also, IE didn't work initially, but magically started to work OK.

I thought it was some Microsoft spyware that was unhappy about the new hardware, and ran the upgrade for XP to reregister. No help. I found and ran the scanpst.exe utility which found/fixed errors in my pst file, but did not fix the problem. I checked for, and found, inetcomm.dll in the System32 folder. I downloaded and ran the Windows "install cleanup" utility and removed/re-installed Office 2003 to no avail.

Recently did a XP pro install (instead of a plain upgrade), which didn't help. I downloaded a registry cleaner to see if that would help. Maybe now, I should reinstall office, though several attempts to "repair office" did nothing. I tend to thing this is more of a system/Office level problem, vice Outlook, because of the errors in Word/Excel.

Any new suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Preferred Solution: Outlook "Unknown Error 0x8007007E"

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello - I've repeatedly tried and failed to install Service Pack 1. I have run the update readiness tool, and have run chkdsk and sfc. I've tried installing through Windows Update, as well as downloading the standalone installer from Microsoft.

The former results in an "unknown error"; the latter results in a window saying that "the specified service does not exist as an installed service" almost immediately after trying. A similar message has come up occasionally in recent days when trying to install a couple of other programs.

I'm currently out of ideas and would appreciate any help. Thanks!

I am infected with this crap and have used the following tools to try to get rid of it:
Windows Defender, Unible PowerSuite (SpeedUpMyPC, Registry Booster & Spyware Protector) and Norton's One Button Checkup and WinDoctor.

Not sure if it's related, but my DISPLAY is locked at 640 X 480.

Atempted the 5 Step Process before posting and Panda ActiveScan froze and crashed after scanning 59253 files, but not before identifying 28 spyware files.

Hi

After i have removed some spyware/trojans I starting getting this error message when I try to access the eventlog:

event log "unable to complete the operation on" eg. system "the interface is unknown" windows xp.

Also I can add programs to Symantec internet security 2005 firewall, reinstalling don't fix it. Some programs also start to fail, "bad image" or you don't have admin premissions.

Reinstalling SP2 or using system restore for XP don't fix any thing.

I have scanned my computer with 4 antispyware programs, and 4 antivirus programs and check it with hijackthis so my machine should be clean.

Does any one have any Idears?

Answer:event log "unable to complete the operation on" "the interface is unknown" windo

maybe you removes something with hijackthis which your system needs

go to start, run and type "sfc /scannow"
then it will rpompt you for the XP CD, put it in and let it scan your computer for corrupted or missing files

I cannot get the wired ethernet or wireless working at all on this laptop. Under the Device Manager, the Broadcom 440x 10/100 NIC and the Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG are both under "Unknown Devices". There is no "Network Adapters" like there should be. While it looks like both drivers are installed correctly, Windows doesn't recognize them as network hardware. There is nothing under network connections. I tried uninstalling the drivers from the Device Manger and restarting and XP just reinstalls the drivers and puts them right back under "Unknown". I also tried a system restore to when they did work and they still don't work now.

Any ideas? Anyway I can get "Network Adapters" back in the Device Manager?

Answer:NICs are showing up under "Unknown" and not "Network Adapaters'" in device manager

If they show up as unknown..the drivers are not installed correctly. Remove them...get the proper drives for them...you'll probably have to transfer those drivers over using something like a USB thumb drive. Follow the instructions on installing those drivers.

Hello all,
I'm suffering froma troubling problem with a Windows 7 system.
This system has a boot HDD (C and data storage RAID5 array (D. The system locked up hard requiring a power down to get Windows operational gain.

The sytem is fine now, except the ~3 TB RAID5 array is not seen by W7. The W7 disk managment snap-in reports that the 2793.97 GB "drive" exists, but the status is "Unknown" and "not initialized". Needless to say, the drve was online and contained LOTS of data before the crash. Due to it's size, the drive was GPT.

I ran a synchronize on the RAID 5 array and that finished w/o error, so I assume the actuall array is fine.

Any recommendations for what utllity/diagnostic/etc. to try next?

Further info: The RAID 5 is a creation of the AMD SB750 "southbridge", which uses tech licensed by Promise Technology.

I have two issues, which I think are related. In the Device Manager, it shows under USB Controllers "Unknown device". "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

I tried updating the driver, but the driver was correct.

I tried disabling the device.

I uninstalled the device. Windows reinstalled it at next boot, but the problem reappeared.

There is no Imaging Devices in the Device Manager.

At the same time, my webcam failed to open. Message "Webcamera initialization failed."

I downloaded the correct webcam program from Toshiba, installed it, but same result.

This all started when I uninstalled and reinstalled Skype. I have tried uninstalling it again, but still no webcam.

The webcam is enabled in the BIOS.

I really do not want to reinstall Windows.

All help appreciated.

Enountered a BSOD that said something along the lines of "Unknown Hard Error" with the code in the title followed by the path: \systemroot\system32\ntdll.dll
It then said something about dumping physical memory to disk. I encountered this BSOD after I purposely powered down my machine and it had been turned off for a couple of hours.

Answer:Getting Blue Screen error"unknown hard error" in win7

This isn't a commonly recognized BSOD error code (here's a table of all that I know: BSOD Index )

Can you get into Safe Mode? If so, first backup your stuff.
Since you can't do a repair install in Safe Mode, you'll have to wipe the system and reinstall Windows.

You may also want to try these free diagnostics:

I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests. They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:

Hey there,

Recently in the past week ive been randomly having the internet "stop working" after 30-40mins of being on it, and all websites coming up with Connection Refused, with Sky Tech Support saying its all working fine and there showing activity.

So I assumed it may have been something I recently downloaded, so I uninstalled them all and it still kept happening, so I then tried a system restore, only to be met with "System Restore failed - Unexpected Error". Tried restoring around 3 times now and the same thing everytime.

The internet seems to be working still and active, but websites either come up as "Connection Refused" or just don't load up at all with a blank white screen.

Im posting asking for help with both the system restore and internet problem hoping that I can kill two birds with one stone by restoring it to before it started doing all this.

Help?

Answer:"Unknown Error" Doing a system restore, and weird internet problem

So far the internet has gone off after: 39minutes, 1hours 57minutes and 11minutes. Did a Kaspersky virus check and nothing whatsoever.

So no idea what either the system restore, or internet going down problems are. Help!

see attached screenshots (part 1 is the actual error code, part 2 is a log of the 10 updates in question failing repeatedly)

i've tried using the reset.cmd script linked at Error 0x80070005 in Windows Update when you try to install updates (and the blog linked at the bottom of that KB article) which nets thousands of registry edit failures, mostly "5: Access is denied". also tried downloading each of those updates to install them manually and every single one gives the dialog box "This update is not applicable to your computer", which is absolute baloney since all of them are marked as important updates in Windows Update (and yes, i did download the appropriate versions for my computer - Windows 7 64 bit)

COMODO Internet Security and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware didn't turn up anything of note (the latter turned up a few apparent non-threats under the "Potentially Unwanted Program" category, which i quarantined. can supply a log of this if needed.)

i'm installing the System Update Readiness Tool right now as i'm typing this, wasn't expecting it to take longer than 15 minutes. i'll be back to edit OP with logs of that and sfc /scannow when they're both done.

would appreciate a fix soon, as one of these uninstallable updates is a patch for the FREAK SSL exploit.

EDIT: SURT just finished and all it says is "Installation Complete". i feel stupid for asking this, but what do i do after this? (besides sfc /scannow, which i'm gonna do right ... Read more

Hello all, new member here. I have came across this forum many times in the past years when searching, and have found it to be very beneficial. So, I figured I would see if anyone here may know why this is happening.

First off, the information about the Laptop in question;
-Asus K60IJ
-Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit
-Intel Pentium @2.20 GHZ
-4GB DDR 2 Ram
-500GB Seagate Hard Drive

As a part of regular maintenance, I use Glary Utilities and CCleaner to keep the PC clean. In an effort to protect deleted data, I run the "drive wiper"/"wipe free space" function of these programs every so often. I have never had a problem with carrying out these actions until the other day. CCleaner acts like it does something, but having done this before, I know that it's not a few minute operation. Glary Utilities gives a more reasonable response when trying;

"Error: Cannot Wipe free space for UNC drive"

I don't know much about UNC or why my C:\ Drive would be categorized as this. I am on a home WiFi connection, however I haven't every had this connected as a network computer, and also have all of the network/sharing options disabled. I have not made any recent changes that I can recall which may have caused this.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this may be happening, or better yet, how I can revert back to where I am able to use this feature of the programs?

All input and suggestions are welcome, I appreciate it very much!
Thank you

Answer:Unknown reasoning for "Error: Cannot Wipe free space for UNC drive"

Hi redhatman, welcome to 7F!

Sounds like something happened when CCleaner (CC) attempted to wipe the free space, Glary picked up on those changes, and it ended up being a UNC drive, and it (Glary) couldn't determine the original working directory to start itself.
Did CC show the "Cannot Wipe free space for UNC drive" error?
Had you made any changes to the file system between the time you last ran CC?

What to try:
Before every CC run the program asks you if you want to create a backup of the registry, if you were prudent enough to do that, try running that backup. https://Problems after you have run CCleaner | www.piriform.com
If you made a restore point try it or the closest one to before the time/date of this wipe.
Start your machine by Last Known Good Configuration. See Step #4 and use your arrow keys to move to that option.
If all the above do not work you may have to try a Repair Install.
As a last resort try backup images or clones if you have them.

If any of these steps resolves your problem you should run a CHKDSK, and SFC /scannow.
By the way, thank you for filling out your System Specs; If you add the model number (K60IJ) of your laptop to your System Specs you won't have to list it or the rest of them in any of your subsequent posts.

Answer:"Your computer was infected by unknown trojan" System Error

Hi Dr_Omels

Thank you for your patience. I will be helping you deal with the issues raised in your log from this point onwards

Before we start jumping into things, here is a quick basic note which I mention to everyone. The fix which I have provided for you is for this computer only, it should not be used on any other computer. Each fix is tailor made for the specific task in hand. If for some reason you have system restore disabled, then please re-enable it before proceeding, an infected restore is better than none. Please read through the fix first and set enough time aside to complete the task in one session. If there is anything you feel needs clarification then please ask - do not guess! Thanks.

If this is a business computer or a computer from a work place then please advise your IT department of the concerning issues before commencing further.

Please follow these directions in the order they are set out for you.

On with the fix.....

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

Hello. Recently many computers on our network are unable to search for new updates. We keep getting error code 8024402F and it says "Windows Update encountered an unknown error."

We use Trend Micro Antivirus 7 (SP 1) and do not have the Firewall enabled. I've already tried disabling it, as well as adding the Windows Update URL's to the URL Filter, but no change.

I sent a ping to update.microsoft.com and they all timed out, so I'm sure that has something to do with it.

I am not quite sure how to handle this and they were all working just a few weeks ago. I've already tried the FixIt solution and resetting the Windows Update components. Here is a part from the WindowsUpdate.log file:

About 1/3 of these crashes are blamed on memory corruption directly. Some of the others indirectly.

These crashes were caused by memory corruption (probably a driver). Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Any errors are indicative of a memory problem.

If a known good stick fails in a motherboard slot it is probably the slot.

Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

Hello all, I just found this forum and I hope you can help me with this problem, so please bear with me.

The relevant facts: I'm using an Athlon X2 running Windows XP on a Seagate 500gb SATA hard drive. The motherboard is an Asus A8V.

About a week ago, I noticed that every morning my system had rebooted itself. I checked the logs and found no errors; only normal bootup information at 5 AM. Since that was the same time I tell, AVG to scan, I assumed the problem was that: yep, lo and behold running an AVG scan causes the computer to reboot.

A quick internet search recommended running chkdsk to rectify similar problems with AVG, so I gave it a try. Upon rebooting, the system locked up partway through the chkdsk on my primary data partition (Windows itself is on another partition). It was during phase 1 of the chkdsk. Worried, I booted up off the XP CD and into the recovery console. I first ran chkdsk on all the other partitions, and it found a handful of bad sectors, etc.; nothing serious. Running it on the problem partition, however, the same thing happened: partway through phase 1, the system locked.

Next, I tried running chkdsk in read only mode from Windows itself. At the end of Phase 1, the system freezes, albeit it slightly differently: I get a number of "Unknown Hard Error" messages until explorer itself exits, and the computer sits there continually popping up those "Unknown Hard Error" messages.

So I'm really worried- is it ... Read more

Hello,

I have a new Lexmark Pro200 series wireless printer. I have it installed on our home wireless network and can print to it fine from two separate Vista laptops. On an older Dell XP (SP3) desktop machine, however, when I try to install the Lexmark printer drivers from their CD, I get an error. The full text of the error is:

"Failed to create print object Lexmark Pro200 Series (Network). The specified port is unknown."

The error appears near the end of the installation process. Also, no printer icon shows up in Printers and Faxes

The first thing I did was contact Lexmark technical support. They tried several things but to no avail, including doing an uninstall and cleaning of any Lexmark drivers, disconnecting and reconnecting the printer via a USB cable (not needed for normal operation), and reinstalling the drivers a couple of times. They said the cause of the problem is something wrong with the Spooler Subsystem Apps and that I would need to repair or update it.

Any ideas how to do this? I've got some decent tech skills and am comfortable doing minor tweaks in the registry and such.

Thanks,
~Tim

A quick scan of the internet shows that I am not the only one to get this during the last several days. When I try to access Control Panel > Fonts, I get a popup reading "System error! Your computer was infected by unknown trojan. It's dangerous for your system (critical files can be lost)! Click OK to download the anti-spyware program to clean your system! (Recommended)"

Then I get a message to the effect that Windows Explorer has encountered an error & must close. So I never get to Fonts.

What it wants to download, I gather, is the rogue antispyware program "Files-Secure." Of course, I haven't pressed the button to download it, but I can't get rid of the damned thing--AVG, A-Squared, Bit Defender, AdAware, SpybotS&D--and not one of them zaps it.

Here my log from SmitfraudFix, which I just ran:

Please would someone help me to regain control of my PC?
Windows 7, but I get a bad image error on all start up apps, and when I try to start any program except Chrome browser. I have also found a file in users called wangjihua, which I cannot delete, even in safe mode.
I've tried many antivirus and anti malware to no avail, mostly from a previous resolved similar issue solved by Broni Malware Annihilator

Hi,

Test to see if you can open the properties
of the network connection in the Network Connections folder.

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\ole32.dll,

I'm trying to install XP Home on a freshly formatted Hard drive.
I've been searching google for several hours trying to solve this problem. I've tried "fix" I could find but,I keep getting this error:

STOP: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error \SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll
So far I've tried the following (one at a time):
1. removed original 2 optical drives, installed one I know works.
2. Removed each of the two RAM strips, one at a time. I don't have any new to try, but I doubt both would be bad...
3. replaced data cables
4. disabled UDMA
5. tried 2 different install CDs
6. HDD diagnostics report all is well
7. obvioulsy I can't "fix" the install or "copy .dll files" since there is no xp installed.
What else is there to try!!??

Answer:XP Home Won't install "Unknown Hard Error"

0xC0000218 is the Unknown hard error code?

0xC0000221: STATUS_IMAGE_CHECKSUM_MISMATCH
Indicates driver problems, system file problems, disk corruption problems (such as a damaged pagefile), or faulty memory hardware.

This error message used to open whenever i clicked on something aswell as a message bubble on the taskbar. Which would then open a website for some "spyware removal tool". I have managed to get rid of the website link, however the message is still popping up.

Error Message as follows: "Your computer was infected by unknown trojan. It's dangerous for your system (critical files can be lost!)
Click OK to download the antispyware program to clean your system! (Recommended)"

I deleted these system files in safe mode which got ride of the website link:
C:\Program Files\NetProject\scit.exe
C:\Program Files\NetProject\sbmntr.exe
C:\Program Files\NetProject\scm.exe
C:\Program Files\NetProject\sbsm.exe

But as far as the rest i have no idea. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!

Hi,

The tool I have a link to below with directions will run on Vista, but you may have to use "RunAs- Administrator" if you do not understand that, let me know.

Please read all through the info so you know what will be done.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

There is a Printable Version button up under the Thread Tools drop down menu that will let you print a nice text version of these instructions.
Alternate way to save directions:Open Notepad> Copy and Paste any text you wish into Notepad, and Save the file as something you will recognize like TSGhelp.txt and save it onto your desktop.
Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

Close any open browsers.
Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".

Here's one for you Outlook gurus. I have talked to a lot of people about this (including 2 Outlook trainers), and they cannot figure it out. I am about at the end of my rope...

Here's the challenge:

A new entry is put into the Outlook 2000 calendar (double click on the time of the event.)
In that window, there is a drop down menu, which is marked "show time as." In that drop down menu, "busy" is chosen.

After the entry is completed and saved, that date does NOT show in bold, on the calendar pane. Instead, there is a grey box around that date.
When clicking on the "attendee availability" tab, the newly entered calendar event, does not even show up. I know the event has been saved, as it DOES show up in the calendar pane (with a grey box around it - not bolded, as it should be.)

Now, here is the weird part-
The entries that I am having problems with, were done in the last week or so. If I enter one right now, it will appear correctly. This only seems to be happening with older dates I have already entered.
Also, if the "show time as" drop down menu is set to "out of office", saved, then set back to "busy", the date will now show correctly.
This is a community calendar which is used by more than one person.

This problem is causing events to be scheduled at the same time, as Outlook is not recognizing when events have already been scheduled for certain dates.

A couple of variables:
1. The PC was recentl... Read more

Sorry for the generic title, but I am at a loss to find information on a pop-up error message. Periodically I will hear a beep and see a small window entitled "Overclk" with a red button containing an X and the statement: "-" is not a valid integer value (see attached screen shot).

There are times, if I leave the computer on overnight, where there will be multiple occurrences of this message.

Any help is appreciated in advance.

When trying to send a bulk email to all the contacts in a group, I'm getting error message "550 5.1.1 user unknown; rejecting". That's it, no more description than that. Any ideas on what the cause is? My guess is there's one bad email in the group and it's causing the whole email to fail. However that's just a guess, I was looking for someone with experience to back me up on my theory.

Answer:Email Error "550 5.1.1 User unknown"

550 generally always means a non existent email address on the recipient server. The message should give you the invalid recipient address in question.

When I try to open Outlook Express, when I am not on MSN, it comes up with this annoying error, and it won't go away even if I click on OK. I end up having to turn off my comp the hard way (power button). I know I can use the Repair function in the Add/Remove Programs thing, but after I do it, it will eventually start happening again, pretty quickly. Is there a fix to this problem? Or is it like this because it is the latest MSN, and there are bugs to be fixed? I've heard that downgrading to 5.0 is sometimes recommended. Anyway, thanks in advance.

We have an ABS computer with an Athlon 1900 XP+ processor and loads of memory. The video card is an NVIDEA GeForce 2Ti and audio is a Soundblaster Audigy. We get crashes caused by an "unknown device driver." Since I got the computer, I have installed ClickN'Burn CD software, which I like, a Sandisc card reader and a Viewsonic Monitor. I did not install the Viewsonic software. I did uninstall the CD software that was preinstalled. Also, the system is supposed to be dynamite for games, but we have problems with freezing, crashing, reboots etc.

Question: can I go into device manager and disable the drivers one at a time to see if it cures the problem or do I have to uninstall? I suspect a video problem because I get some funky looking shadow type things over the minimize, maximize and close icons in Word Perfect. All the drivers I can find have been updated and supposedly are XP compliant.

Any suggestions?

We used to have "stereo mix" option that enabled streaming audio recording without having to have the audio playing through the speakers. How do I do that now? What replaces that capability? Who makes my sound card? Why is that not readily available somewhere in Dell land? I can't believe forum searching found pretty much nothing on this.

Answer:Latitude E6530 Windows 10 no "stereo mix" option for sound input device, only "high definition audio device" with Microsoft driver and unknown manufacturer.

aj_chicagoWho makes my sound card?
Hello. The audio chip manufacturer was IDT.
aj_chicagoWhat replaces that capability?
IDT doesn't have "stereo mix", so I'm not sure how you used to have it on the E6530. IDT has an equivalent capability that it calls Rec.Playback. That can be found in the list of recording devices, after the IDT driver is installed.
aj_chicagoHow do I do that now?
Dell doesn't support audio on an E6530 that has had Win10 installed. The IDT company went out of the consumer audio business long before there was a Win10 OS, so there is no Win10 IDT driver for that model. Your computer is currently using the Windows native audio driver, which, as you say, does not support a stereo mix kind of feature.
You should be able to install the IDT driver for Win7 by installing with compatibility mode.
1. Download and save the audio driver to your desktop or any convenient location on the hard drive.  [There are two "formats" on the driver's page. Scroll down to the 2nd one, named "Hard Drive" format, and download that one, not the 1st one named "Windows Update Package".]2. Double click on the new folder to extract (unzip) the driver files.3. The extractor wizard will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be at "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Write down the exact location that the wizard creates. 4. If the driver begins to install automatically, halt (cancel) the installation.5. Browse to the dri... Read more

Anyone with a fix? . My appreciations in advance!

Answer:"User Accounts" in Control panel wont Open-Error is "Html application Host Error"

Do you have a recovery restore install disc or partition?
You can try doing a repair or system file check...
Scan For Missing/Corrupt System Files...

Windows XP comes with a wonderful tool called System File Checker (SFC)
Itscans and verifies the versions of all protected system files after you restart your computer...
To Do This:
Click Start menu, and then click the Run icon.
In the small box that Opens, type the three letters: cmd then click the OK button.
In the command prompt window that just opened (a black background and white text), type the following command:
SFC /scannow
And then click OK
You must be logged on as a member of the Administrators group to run SFC..
You will need your Windows XP CD during this procedure if SFC needs to get an original file. Please remember that Windows XP can have multiple instances of a .DLL file and remember which version is for which program.
Notes....
I have been asked if it is possible to have a "progress meter" show when SFC runs... This is the registry hack you need. PLEASE do not go messing with your registry if you do NOT know what you are doing!
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
Value Name: SFCShowProgress
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)

I have Outlook 2010 and Windows 8.1.  When attempting to open e-mail in Outlook 2010 or documents in Word I get the following error:
"Outlook could not create the work file.  Check the temp environment variable."
I've read several Microsoft KB articles and several forums on this issue.  According to these articles, This problem occurs when the Cache string value in the registry doesn't point to a valid directory.  The solution provided is to:
Locate and then click the following subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
Right-click the Cache key, and then click Modify.  Then modify the sting value to:  %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache
When performing this step, the cache value was already set to the value above.  I attempted to overwrite by typing the same value for the string, but that did not solve the problem.  I attempted to change it to a different value, save it, and then
modify it to the correct value and save it, but that did not solve the problem.  I also attempted to go in to the INetCache folder under Users\"user"l\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache, rename it, recreate a new folder and copy all subfolders
into it, and that did not solve the problem.
I am out of things to try from the user forums I have researched.  Appreciate any insight anyone might have on how I can solve this problem.

I have added a SATA drive to my Vista machine that was once loaded with Win XP, the Device Manager does pick it up as well as Disk Management, but under Disk Management it states the drive is "Unknown" and "unreadable" I also do not have any options once I right click on the "Unallocated" area.

I just want this disk formatted and used as extra storage, I did load the Vista DVD and tried to load it on this disk but I got an error as well.

Answer:"Unknown" and "Unreadable" disk drive

Download and run the disk manufacturer's utility to partition and format this drive. That should find the drive and do the job for you.

You didn't say what brand of drive it was, so I can't point you to the utility, but you can find it with a search of the manufacturer.

Install your chipset drivers and make sure you have your SATA drivers installed as well.

Check BIOS settings for RAID and SATA. It may need to be tweaked.

Outlook 2003:I'm a massive fan of outlooks Search folders, I receive in excess of 400 emails per day, of which approximately 250 need my attention, even if to reply back and give someone an answer.

A problem I find is that I am so busy with my emails, I often need to clean out my inbox. I do this by setting up basic search folders such as "all emails from my team which are in my inbox only" or "any email sent to me which was part of a distribution list in my inbox only" etc...

This is great for filtering my mail and I would like to create a rule as such:

"All mail within my inbox which has been either replied to forwarded by myself".

I can't seem to find any options and I'm hoping an Outlook guru can help

If you don't know the answer, can you try googling it for me to see if you can find anything, loads of heads are better one...

Thanks in advance

I am trying to upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10. Before proceeding I installed all the required Win 7 updates, then attempted to install Win 10. However every time I try I get:
"Code 80070780 Windows Update encountered an unknown error."
See attached screen captures.
"Get help with this error" is not helpful. I've clicked "Try again" 4 times now, always the same problem.
Any ideas?

80070780 is a rather generalised File system Error - this would suggest to me that the actual install media downloaded for the upgrade has been corrupted

Sorry for a long post, but the problems have been mounting and I want to be clear with what's wrong...A while ago my computer stopped functioning. After playing a game, I left and came back to find the screen black, so I hit the hard restart button, and it got to the screen with the Gateway logo but when that ended and it should have flashed to the Windows Loading screen, it just went black with a blinking white _ . I tried hard restarting several times, and each time it would go to the black screen with the white blinking _. It shows the BSOD. Even trying Safe Mode only got me a little bit farther - I could get past the gateway loading screen. Finally I decided the best thing to do would be to reformat. Here is where my current problem lies. The drive is plugged in properly and is brand new, so I know it's not a dud. But, when I boot up with the Windows XP Home installation CD and get to the point of selecting which drive to install Windows on, the options is: "Unknown disk (there is no disk in the drive".Once again I tried to install Windows, and it gave me the same message (Unknown disk). I thought for a moment that maybe it was because the hard drive was bad, so that?s why I bought a new one. When the new one came in the mail, I put it in and the same problem happens. So now I'm at an impasse - neither of my drives, one of which worked fine not too long ago and one of which is brand new, is being recognized by Windows setup, and I don't know wh... Well, that's helpful information. This has been going on for several days. I get the message when I am attempting to delete a read message. I've tried closing & re-opening WLM, but I still get the message. It appears to be totally non-selective. It lets me delete some messages, but not others. After one of these episodes, all of my buttons go gray.

Maybe a repair will help. Go to programmes and features, click on Windows Live Essentials and you will given a choice to uninstall or repair Windows Live Essentials.

At the startup screen to log in to Windows 8.1, I receive an error that says "An unknown error has detected" (not a typo). This is on a Lenovo laptop and I did not receive this error out-of-box.
I'm also having some other possibly related issues. I cannot seem to uninstall Lenovo preinstalled software - every time a program uninstalls, it remains on the start screen or reappears the next time the computer turns on. I also tried to do a system restore
but it was prevented due to "firewalls". Could this be an overall administrator problem?
Any help with these issues is appreciated. Thanks!

I built my first computer with the following specs:

XP Pro
Asus P4C800-3 Deluxe Motherboard
Intel Pentium 4 3.2ghz Processor
Maxtor Diamond Plus 200gb Hard Drive
ATI Radeon 9250 Video Card
1 GB DDR 3200 RAM (Will be 2GB after this payday)
Plextor 716a DVD Burner
Creative 5.1 Surround Sound System

Everything seems to be running perfectly except one problem. Everytime I put it in standby and bring it back "to life" I get a weird "unknown hard error" then the computer goes really slow to the point where it doesnt do much of anytthing at all. I need to restart it to gain contral again. I have tried everything to fix it. My standby mode is mode s3. Can anyone help? I checked online and there were sites saying to update all of your drivers and bios and I've already done that. One site said to check you ram, mine passed, and another said scan the hard drive and I've done that. I am tempted to reinstall xp but I dont want to have to reinstall my other applications and Im not sure if it will fix the problem.

Thanx in advance.

PS: I hope this was in the correct place.

I'm not able to delete or move an inbox message, receiving the subject error message instead. I've encountered this error on my previous Win7 computer, and as I recall the problem stayed forever. I have now executed the Repair function accessible from the Control Panel, which tells me that the program has been repaired successfully--but I guess MS has a view of success that's different from mine. Greetings, lately i have been experiencing a strange dll error everytime i start up my computer. It's stating the following:

"There was a problem starting msirji32.dll. The specified module could not be found"

I googled the dll file and i could not find it anywhere. It's not exactly affecting my system but i would like to know what it could be. Could anyone tell me what it could be? Thanks.

Answer:Unknown dll error pop-up "msirji32.dll"

This is likely due to malware. I will ask that this thread be moved to our System Security - Windows 7 Forums forum.

In the meantime, could you post a screenshot of your startup programs? Start Menu -> type msconfig into the search programs and files box -> hit enter -> startup tab

In Windows XP, fully updated, I have several folders full of mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

But all the figures in the "Duration" column appear to be in "hours" and "minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03", but what I want is "minutes" and "seconds".

Any thoughts as to how to change this?

I am getting problem whenever I?m trying to send Email using Microsoft outlook express 2007. I am getting this error message ?Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Error Number: 0x800CCC0F? please help me in resolving this error.

Answer:Why is this error coming "Error Number: 0x800CCC0F" in Microsoft Outlook Express continuously?

Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. I assume that you?ve ruled these out.

The problem may also occur if you have an antivirus e-mail protection utility enabled, which checks the mail as it comes in from your Post Office Protocol (POP) server. To test this, disable the antivirus e-mail protection utility as well as the Windows Firewall.

Another likely cause is that there is a message that is either too large or corrupt in some manner. Logon to your servers Webmail site and delete the offending message there.

I have been able to figure out how to everything except for this:

How to I design the "date" and "dollar amount" field values to default to blank/empty instead of defaulting to the word "None" in the case of the "date" field and "$0.00" in the case of the "dollar amount" field?

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated!

I am running Windows XP SP3, fully updated, on an Acer lap top PC.

I have several folders full of .mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. To do this I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

The two new columns appear, but the format of the "Duration" column appears to be "hours:minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03" for most .mp3's, when what I want to see is 'hours:minutes:seconds", e.g. "00:03:45".

This also happens for video files (.avi files), e.g. all my episodes of "Heroes" (sad, I know) have a duration of "00:42" instead of "00:42:xx".

Here are two pictures showing the problem with the .mp3's. The first is of Explorer showing the Duration as "Hours:Minutes":

The second picture is of the properties window of the first .mp3 in the list above:

I copied some .mp3 files to another (old) PC on my home network, and it displayed the duration field correctly:

Also, the properties window correctly shows the duration also:

Hi;
Had a sudden inability to go much further than a third or forth-level download on ANY given webpage and then PC would seize-up, requiring "cont+alt+del" in order to get freed-up. Thought perhaps I picked-up a bug of some sort during a recent google search, and went immediately to Panda and Trendmicro to perform both virus as well as malware scans. While the Panda scan was loading-up, I received the following error message....

... " DoPatch....dll reports error....Error "C:\WINNT\patch.utp"....unreadable or not a patch file..."

Was able to complete both scans. Nothing found other than tracking cookies.

I then did a file serch for the above and located it. It was installed TODAY apparently, and not by me, within minutes of the problem starting.

I'm guessing someone/thing slipped this patch into my WINNT file or modified it while I was doing the google search, so I have included a HJT scan below.

Hope this all makes sense and ties-out to something. Any help would be genuinely appreciated-
thanks

My PC wouldn't boot off the SSD (with Win 10 OS). It said there were boot problems and tried to diagnose the problem but it doesn't boot. I'm now using the original HD with Win 7. I'd like to get the SSD working if I can. The SSD is OCZ - 240 GB or so.

But between last night and today, the SSD has gotten worse. I can't access it at all now. Last night I was able to access it as an external drive. What I did in between was a chkdsk of the HD just to make sure it was OK. Then this morning I saw that the SSD had problems.

Disk Management shows the SSD as disk 1, but it has no information on it. It just says the disk is unknown and uninitialized.

I saw a recommendation for Partition Wizard 9.1 Free. But that doesn't show the drive at all. I attached screen shots as a Word document.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you open any letter to view it there are 4 buttons below (ltr): Reply, Delete, Left, Right. Obviously for 'right-handed' people Right button should open next letter and Left - previous. But for some reasons order is reversed. Do you know what is the reason? Is it UI/UX based decision?

Answer:Why "next" and "back" buttons in Mobile Outlook are reversed?

The only sensible thing I can make of it is that you're looking at a list in reverse chronological order (newest at the top), so going forward would go to the next (older) message.

Hi, I'm trying to reinstall my sister's scanner driver because XP has decided that it's not there any more. This happens occasionally and usually reinstalling the driver fixes it (I think that's what I did last time), but this time i just can't get it to work.

If i unplug the USB cable then plug it in again, it comes up with a message saying that the device has malfunctioned and it doesn't recognize it. I have the driver CD but windows always manages to install it as "Unknown device" before i can tell it to search the CD. I've tried telling it to reinstall the driver from the CD but it says that there are "no better matches for this device". I've also tried uninstalling the program form the CD and reinstalling it then restarting the pc but that didn't help either. I tried plugging it into another USB port (as suggested by Windows Help Center) but that still didn't work.

It's not often that something like this gets me in a circle and scratching my head but I'm really starting to run out of ideas.

Any help would be very appreciated, i just want to get this thing running again

Answer:*RESOLVED* Media Center "Tuner Not Found" error, "Receiver service has stopped"

Okay, I resolved the first two issues, Tuner error and ehrecvr error. It had to do with multiple Admin user accounts on my computer. My computer was originally set up with a user Robert Baker with full privileges as administrator. I then also set up a MediaCenter account with full privilidges. For whatever reason the MediaCenter account has access to EVERY action on the computer except starting the ehrecvr service.1.  First set Media Center Service Launcher to log on at NT Authority    Services > Right-Click Windows Media Center Service Launcher > Properties > Log On tab > Log On As 'This account: ' > Type " NT AUTHORITY/LocalService " > Click Apply > General tab > Start service.2. I then set the Media Center Scheduler Service AND Media Center Receiver Service to log on as my other admin account. Same as above but with other account credentials and started the services.3. Reboot and no ehrecvr errors. Since this was a good sign I tried WMC and was able to set up my TV fine.I STILL, however, get the "Upgrade in progress" message when I open Media Center. Anyone know how to fix that? I've run setup again and can't get rid of it.

I have a user who gets insufficient resources errors at random times during the day.

browsing to her network drives, causes this error. The drive is not displayed.
Printing causes this error. The document does not print
She basically, can't do anything.
The system has 2gb of memory, not a ton, but taskmgr shows there is lots of room there, CPU usage also isn't high.
Programs usually running are
Autocad 2008
Outlook 2007
and random programs.
pdf documents in Acrobat Pro
Internet Explorer 8

I close out Outlook 2007, and the error goes away, she is able to print and continue as normal.
I open Outlook 2007 back up, and she is running fine for a while.

I remember older versions of Office creating a memory leak, which was addressed in patches and service packs, but I didn't think a memory leak issue existed in 2007.
Anyone else seen this kind of behaviour, and if so, solutions?

All of a sudden I could not find my sent mails in the Sent Items Folder. I looked for help from the forums and got a suggestion to create another profile to test whether I can see my sent mails there. I followed the instructions but there was not enough to lead me through so I don't think I completed creating a profile. Then I got another suggestion to purchase the Registry Booster to clean up my registry. After I did that I was able to see my sent mails again.

However I still continue to see the Outlook Data File Popup with the message "This data file has not been configured. Select an existing file to configure or try the name of a new file to create". After I clicked "OK" then I got another pop up to prompting me to choose a file from the Libraries.Documents directory. I clicked "Cancel" then I got another pop up with "Properities for this data file must be defined prior to use". I clicked "OK" and then I got the Outlook Data File Popup and the same subsequent popups again. After clicking through I was able to start my Outlook but when use the registry Booster to scan I got more error messages. So apparently these errors from Outlook is mucking up my registry. Anyone has any idea about this problem? Please help. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Helen.

Answer:Outlook 2010 Error message "This data file has not been configured"

Hi Helen,

Firstly, you certainly do not need any registry boosters to solve Outlook data file issues - was this a recommendation made by someone, or was this suggested to you by an automated pop-up? If its the latter, is there any chance you could be infected by some sort of malware?

To solve the Outlook issue, do you know where your Outlook data file is being stored? Can you do a search on your computer for all files with this extension:

.pst

Post back here with your findings. Also, can you tell us about your current system : what anti-virus software are you using. I'm a bit concerned about this Registry Booster : generally speaking, in most cases you really do not need/want to be mucking with the registry at all.

Regards,
Golden

Custom UI Runtime Error in Send to Bluetooth

Quote:
Error found in Custom UI XML of "Send to Bluetooth":
Line: 1
Column: 143
Error Code 0x8000405
Failed to find Office control by ID
ID: FileSendMenu

Two buttons: OK & OK to All

I can disable the pop-up error box by unchecking "Show add-in user interface errors" under "In all Microsoft Office Programs:" in Tools/Options/"Other" Tab/"Advanced Options..." button.

I'd like to know if there is a solution for this issue other than turning off the notification of the add-in user interface error?

How do I troubleshoot this issue?

I have the latest drivers installed. The drivers for the Bluetooth side of the module are from Motorola and the drivers for the WLAN 802.11bgn side of the module are from Ralink.

Answer:Office 2007 Outlook "Send to Bluetooth" Error

This issue is resolve for now. The problem is a Bluetooth driver that causes issues with MS Office as well. See the link below for more details:

Word 2007 Copy and Paste Issue

In addition to disabling the "Show Add-In user interface errors" option as described in post 1, you can disable the "Send to Bluetooth" feature under Tools/Trust Center/Add-Ins/Manage: COM Add-ins (drop down menu and click "Go")/uncheck "Send to Bluetooth."

With Win 7, you need to right click the application exe file, select "Properties"/Compatibility and check the box to run the program as an administrator to be able to uncheck the "Send to Bluetooth" options in all the Office applications.

Using Outlook 2003.When trying to open attachments we get the following error message"Can't create file: <filename>. Right click the folder you want to create the file in, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu to check your permissions for the folder"This doesn't happen all the time, just with some attachments. We had a fix, by deleting Temporary Files that it created, now that's not working either.Any suggestions? Thanks!

All other functions work just fine. This hotlink failure occurs in email only. I now cannot open any hotlink within any email I receive. All was well until a few days ago when this hotlink failure began. Any help will be appreciated. The Outlook program is part of my Microsoft Office 2000, if this helps.Problem solved. Found the answer on this site as follows: Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs>set program access and defaults (Custom is normally highlighted)...click on custom>choose default web browser>pick the specific web browser you want (probably Internet Explorer)>OK.Worked perfectly. Thanks for all the help.

Answer:Microsoft Outlook hotlinks always give a "102" error message

Glad you found a solution...and Welcome to ComputerHope ! !

Hey, y'all. This just started, and I don't know what the problem is--hopefully one of you does.Whenever I try to do just about anything in Outlook, either with mail or the calendar, I get an error box that says, "Could not install the custom actions".  Once I click the "OK" button, the process that was interrupted by the error message, e.g., maximizing a message from the preview pane, adding a calendar item, etc., resumes as if nothing had gone wrong.I've never instructed (or tried to instruct) Outlook to install any custom actions, so I'm really confused here.  And I haven't done anything unusual with the laptop lately, save to have the cable internet tech hook me up to my new internet provider three days ago.  Oh, I also ran a registry cleaner (RegSupreme) a few days ago, too.  Could either of these have messed up my Outlook?I'd appreciate any help that y'all could offer, even if the solution ultimately consists of either restoring my registry to a point prior to these strange occurrences or, the universe forbid, backing up all of my Outlook stuff and then uninstalling and reinstalling the program.Thanks!--yitzadP.S.--In case this information helps, I'm working on a Dell Inspiron 1420, with Windows Vista.

Read the last thread on the following URL:http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=618096It's talking about "frmcache.dat" ....to stay on the safe side, don't delete the file...just rename it to .old or what ever just in case so you could rename it back if this will not fix your issue.Cheers

I have Windows XP and am using Office 2007. A week ago my Outlook calendar started showing the wrong date. Today is showing as 11/13/09 and it's 11/19/09. My inbox is grouping my email in "Next week" (It should list it as "today"). All todays outgoing email is dated 11/13/09 on the receiver's end (so my clients don't think they've received it because their email program is filing it under 11/13/09. All incoming email has the right date on it. My sent file has the wrong date. This is bizarre! Please somebody help me.....

Hi.

OUTLOOK 2003: "the requested operation failed" error appears on Internet E-Mail Settings IMAP pop-up?

I have been using & setting up Outlook on 2 identical W7 pro 32 bit pc's for several yr with little or or problems.

My wife & I are moving to a new area and will have new email addresses and haven't been able to get past the above error (pix below). My ISP Charter & they are always making changes to their email program & settings. Also, after months of no W7 updates, I have just started rec'd updates for both PCs.

I'm trying to track this problem down: Am I making an operational error, or is Charter trying to get everyone using their web mail, or is MS slipping something into W7 updates to force customers to W10??
If you guys have any suggestions, etc, please advise as I will be with out an email client on my PC when our move is completed. Please see image below.

cheers,
klxdrt

Hi I run Windows Vista Home Premium and Outlook 2007. I've set up POP3 access for Gmail and to download mail from mail.bigpond.com (an Australian ISP). Initial setup was fine and I can send test messages to myself.

Recently I've had trouble sending (but not receiving) email via Outlook. The following error message is shown:

Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) email server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP).

This message occurs for both my email accounts.

If I reboot the computer, then sometimes the mail will be sent successfully. I've checked the "account settings" on Outlook- and they are exactly as those given by my ISP/Gmail. But when I click on "test account settings", the test message can't be sent.

What's going on?!

Answer:Outlook 2007 "Sending reported error"- can receive mail but can't send!!

Angela,

Refer to the earlier query in this section dated 10th April under heading " OE suddenly asking for Logon Password" which shows possible ways of overcoming this . I reckon it's server problem as I had it re-occur a couple of days ago . My Mail is Btinternet which started rejecting my outward messages. I know that BT uses Yahoo so Isubstituted "mail.yahoo.com" for "mail.btinternet.com" ( OE/Tools/Accounts/Properties/Servers) and it immediately started working . So whatever the ISP says it IS their fault and somehow their systems start rejecting things for no valid reason .

I've been having some problems with my computer and I've always somehow managed to work my way around the issues spyware/malware etc. have created but lately it's been getting out of hand.. Some time ago I got a virus or something that made the entire tab under "Processes" dissapear. So I could not see process-names in the task-manager. I have re-installed XP but this problem persists. I have been using a different application to monitor and handle processes.

The problem now is the constant pop-ups generated from this fake anti-virus program calling itself "Anti Virus Pro 2007" or something.. It pops up with fake commercials, and even attach itself into other explorer-windows while I view other pages.

As popups and messageboxes keep popping up, I close them, but after a while windows will open a messagebox telling me "Buffer overrun detected in e:\Windows\system32\explorer.exe" (or \\windows\explorer.exe I don't remember really but you get the idea) and explorer.exe will be terminated, sometimes taking some internet explorer windows along with it, other times explorer.exe just starts up again and all my windows remain.

I used to have Norton but was forced to remove it as it was sucking up all my CPU. It rendered my computer useless, as I mainly use it for gaming.

I've also experienced having the connection between me and my modem broken while beeing on the internet, and I don't know if my computer actually is offline or if -I'm- just... Read more

Answer:Infected - "Win Anti Spyware" "Buffer overrun error" and a fake dialer or something++

Hello and welcome to TSF

Please download ComboFix

Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop.

Close all browsers. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

You are using an older version of HijackThis. Please do the following to download and install the latest version of HijackThis v2.0.2:

CLICK HERE to download the HijackThis Installer:Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Double-click on HJTInstall.exe to run the program.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
Accept the license agreement by clicking the "I Accept" button.
Click on the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click "Save log" to save the log file and then the log will open in Notepad.
Click on "Edit -> Select All" then click on "Edit -> Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and paste the log in your next reply.
Do NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet! Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

You may delete the older version once you have successfully downloaded and installed the latest version of HijackThis v2.0.2.

Expected logs:

Combofix.txt
HijackThis log

Hope this query is in the right section -tried to use my LDS 1881 England Census CDs last night - but having problems with the Viewer.

I have V4 which up to now has worked perfectly - tried to re-install it
and I keep getting "Failed to extract file "Dll_ini" from binary table"
error message.

BUT no problems on my laptap which has the Viewer installed from the
same CD.

Have had a few problems with computer of late - it was in the workshop
3 weeks ago because of some corrupt Windows files - could that be the
problem?

Grateful for any advice, suggestions as to what to do!

it's infinite i don't know what to do, i don't have a cd rom, and i can't reinstall my windows from USB because every time i tried it says : "disk error" or "disk read error"
even after i burn it to USB correctly, tried this on other pc and USB can load just fine.
i'm thinking, it's something wrong with my boot system in System Reserved, is there anyway i can do to fix this?

Answer:"Windows Loading Files" infinite loop, Can't Boot USB "disk error"

Hi,

Have you tried changing the boot sequence inside the BIOS?

Normally pressing F2 or F12 on the computer will solve this.

I'm running Windows 7 on a DELL XPS. Before this happened a disk scan was running and I reset the computer before it was finished. It restarted the first time, but by the time I got back to the computer it was on the "Strike f1 to retry boot" screen.I've tried turning on CAPS LOCK, NUM LOCK & SCROLL LOCK and hitting ALT - E,F,B, but that did not seem to work. I don't know if I did the combination work or something, but I tried a variety of combos and none of them seemed to work. I also tried reloading the default settings in the Boot options menu and that did not seem to help either. I've read resetting the BIOS is a possible solution, but I'm not sure what the next step is at this point.Any help would be greatly appreciated.* UPDATE: I just ran a diagnostics test and it said Error Code 0141 - No Drive Detected

Answer:Getting "Strike f1 to retry boot" "Error Code 0141 - No Drive Detected"

Its having issues detecting the hard drive. What is the exact make/model number of this computer?Curious as to why you didnt allow it to finish properly? Did it take forever getting hung at a certain point of the scandisk in which you told it to reboot because it was not progressing further? I have a strong feeling you will need to replace the hard drive. The system sensed an issue with the drive before it died and it attempted a scandisk to try to repair, and right now it sounds like the issue with the drive got worse from the point in which the system detected a scandisk was necessary to correct for errors.
