Acer Ultrabook Keyboard stopped working!!

Question: Acer Ultrabook Keyboard stopped working!!

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and have a request for help,

I have an Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581TG with the following spec:

Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581TG NX.RYKEK.010

Except i'm running windows 7 and have just the 500GB HD on its own.

I only have had it since christmas and have been VERY happy with its performance so far...

BUT lastnight I switched it on and the keyboard and touchpad is completely unresponsive, when I went into control panel-hardware-keyboard there was a red "x" symbol beside it and when I ran a diagnostic on it it stated the driver wasn't installed properly and searched itself for a fix, It seemed to find something and tried installing it but then reported it wasn't installed properly.

I restored the laptop to two different previous restore points with no effect and so have since undid all restores (using the onscreen keyboard and a mouse).

I have tried pressing F2/F6/F8 on startup but with no effect....

I have seen a fix that has seemed to work for people where they disconnect the power lead and battery, press and hold the power button for 30-45 secs, connect just the battery and reboot, however my battery is internal and can't be clipped out like most laptops...

I'm running out of ideas and most driver update sites seem to be a trick to get you to install their software for free then charge you for anything else so any advice would be GREATLY appreciated, I don't want to have to get an external HDD, back everything up and go through the returns process to try get a replacement laptop...

Many thanks!

Darren.

Preferred Solution: Acer Ultrabook Keyboard stopped working!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Acer Ultrabook Keyboard stopped working!!

Try the following drivers.
Oddly enough, I could not find official keyboard drivers for your model, only touchpad drivers.
I'm assuming that your keyboard uses a windows included driver.

These are for Windows 7 64bit.

I just recently encountered a problem with my Acer Aspire E3-112 notebook keyboard that I had been able to fix and would like to share the solution with anyone who may encounter the same problem. I had used a USB flash drive to copy some files without any issues. Shortly afterwards, I noticed that the 8 key on the keyboard had stopped responding, but all other keys worked as normal. I had pressed Fn-F11 (NumLk) and the 8 key started working again. Pressing Fn-F11 again disabled the NumLk mode, and the 8 key also stopped working again. I tried rebooting the notebook, shutting down and powering back up, reinstalling keyboard driver, etc, but nothing worked. To rule out Windows OS related settings, I rebooted into BIOS, and noticed that the 8 key still didn't work when I tried to change the time, but the other number keys worked fine. The solution that finally solved the problem was to shut down the notebook, and then using a paper clip, push it into the Batery reset pinhole on the bottom of the notebook for four seconds. Upon normal powerup, the 8 key started working again. If your notebook has a removable battery, then removing and reinstalling the battery might have the same effect.

Thanks for sharing. I've seen the battery reset fix a number of issues, but nothing as odd as the 8 key from working.

I would suggest you perform a system restore to when it was working, it could just be a recent update that caused the issue to start occurring.

Hi,
My neighbours computer is an Acer Aspire 6920G that is 9 months old, it has just come back from the store she brought it at and still has the same issue.
It runs Vista Home Premium, which I am not familiar with.
The machine boots fine, but does not recognise the keyboard, touchpad, and now has no sound drivers or options.
The machine was not sold with a Vista disc, just a generic recovery disc that does not allow me to use the SFC /scannow or repair console.
I am familiar with XP to intermediate, but never used Vista before.

Can anyone please help

Hi, So my Ethernet Port on the u310 Ideapad has randomly stopped working - by that I mean that when I plug in my LAN wire, the lights will show only when I switch on my laptop, till the Windows logo comes on, which is when the lights of the port go off and the port refuses to work. I need LAN pretty urgently, so I was wondering if someone could please help me out! Thanks!

Hi Ipsh, thanks for posting and welcome to the community. Based from your post there is apossibility that it it could be hardware. But however before we confirm let just trya few setting and software adjustment first. At this point I was just wondering if you have tried doing a software update, I would suggest you to uninstall the current drivers you have now and reinstall the drivers below.http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/0wla01ww.exePlease be informed that the driver above is meant for windows 7, if you have another operating system installed do let me know.Regards

Hi guys  I hope you can help please. I have an HP Ultrabook Sleekbook 14-b003sa running Windows 10. And now I have two big problems.  My inbuilt keyboard recently stopped working so I tried a system restore which then froze (I was able to log on using the onscreen keyboard). It's still not working. My second problems is that now, a few times turning off and on, means I now can't access my password protected account which contains all my Word files but 25 days' worth of iTunes which I ripped really recently and took forever! When I try to log in I get the message 'Preparing Windows' and then 'We can't sign in to your account' and  instead a temporary account is opened for me. With regards to the keyboard issue I've done the removing the battery trick with no luck.  I've also tried to update the drivers and am informed I have the latest versions. I've also deleted them and rebooted. No luck. The driver has the yellow triangle with the exclamation point next to it so something must be wrong. When I try to system restore I'm told that I first need to uninstall a previous restore which I aborted today. But when I do that it just stops responding. I've also tried doing all of this in safe mode. i really don't want to do a factory reset as I'll lose everything. Can anyone please help? Fingers crossed and thanks. Peter

hi! yesterday i dropped half of a cup of coffee on the left corner of my samsung ultrabook. Some of the buttons (from 'left ctrl' to 'w' and 'space' as an area) was totally in the mud of coffee including touchpad and 2 buttons of it. Immediately i turned of the pc, i didnt have chance to remove the battery as its embedded in the pc. Then right after turning it off, i dried all the wet surfaces i could see. i waited for a few minutes and kept using it again. i watched dexter for an hour or so then i turned it off again. here problem goes, when i open the pc touch pad won't work at all, and the keyboard is ok in the begining, but if i hibernate the pc and wake it up again or restart it, keyboard won't work either. to make the keyboard work again, i have to shut it down and start again. i reinstalled the touchpad driver but it didn't help. i think it can't detect the tochpad. now im writing this message with this semi-working keyboard and laptop. i want to ask how to fix it. thanks alot in advance.

I've just purchased a 2. gen Helix (20CG) with german Ultrabook Pro Keyboard Dock, very happy with the machine, but a bit annoyed with the German keyboard layout. I've got an older 1. gen Helix (3XXX) with Ultrabook Keyboard Dock (not Pro), are the keys interchangeable, so I can change the layout of the Pro Keyboard to my desired/preferred language (which is Danish)? Anyone tried this or have info's on this? The key-size seems to be the same, but I don't know about the hinges or mechanics and how about backlight?Buing a new keyboard dock is no option for me, the expence of this is no match to the annoyance with it...

I currently have an X60 and have never had a single issue.  However I was recently infected with a Trojan, and after removing it with a reputable program, the keyboard and trackpoint mouse have stopped working. When I get the windows login screen, the trackpoint works fine, but the second I press any key, both keyboard and mouse become totally frozen. I can still use a USB keyboard and mouse with no issue at, but that is the only way. Any ideas as to how I can get them back up and working? Clearly, they (at least the mouse) are not totally fried b/c it works fine before I touch the keyboard. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, JT

SOLVED!  I simply had to update the drivers in the device manager.  For some reason they were corrupt and it could not load them.  Simple fix, just took too much thought and digging to find solution.

As I wrote in the title, my Shift and Alt keys stopped working for keyboard shortcuts. However, the Shift key still works when capitalizing letters.

I've been dealing with this problem off/on for the past two weeks and haven't been able to figure it out. I've gone into Ease of Access features and turned on/off all of the available options (Mouse Keys, Sticky Keys, Toggle Keys, Filter Keys). I've pressed Shift for 8 seconds, and pressed it 5 times, and still haven't been able to correct it.

Thank you in advance for any help offered.

Possibly helpful additional information:
I've got a Spanish/Latin American keyboard layout installed in addition to the US English keyboard layout. I toggle back and forth with Left Alt + Shift (which is how I noticed my Shift key stopped working).
I play a game whose controls rely on a lot of Shift key pressing and holding.

When was the last time you used a can of air cleaner on the keyboard? If it isn't from contact wear often keyboards tend to get loaded up with dust and debris!

One example of that is having any snacks onhand around a pc where little bits get passed along from your fingers onto and under the keys themselves. Keyboards are known to get loaded up fast with any foods present!

While probably dusting the keyboard off, I noticed it just stopped working. I am typing this using an external Dell USB keyboard attached to the laptop.I tried every thing by the websites , manuals, commensense, pcdoctors and non of the keys on the primary keyboard will work.Even the Ctrl+Alt+Del won't work. No NumLock, No sceenlock, No caps lock - nothing. Is there any hidden key combination which renders a keyboard totally inactive?I doubt that dusting with a feather could do it. Thanking in anticipation.KS

Answer:KEYBOARD STOPPED WORKING, AN EXTERNAL USB KEYBOARD DOES

Doubt it's a key combination.Case is about disconnected wire of it - happens to be under the keyboard. It's a pity you didn't mention the model of laptop. But, however, you can find a manual on how to disassembly it on lenovoservicetraining.com

My orbicam stopped working on my Acer computer which has Aspire 5100-5023 on my notebook. After looking up the solution online, here's what I did...which did not solve the problem:

Alt/F10
Hit Restore
selected reinstall applications/drivers
once it was finished, it brought me to a screen where I selected Windows vista. Here's where I think I screwed up. I had three choices to install a driver: Bison Camera Driver, Acer Orbicam Utility Bar (Bison), and Suyin Camera Driver. I've installed the first two at least 3X, and the suyin driver 1x. Nothing is working. Obviously I did not do it correctly.

I think everything needs to be uninstalled, then reinstalled, correct? If so, what do I need to reinstall? Thank you. Confused but think I'm on the right track. Thank you.

I bought a pair of headphones (Philips SHB7000). They work with my phone and Nexus. However, when I tried to connect them to my Acer Aspire V5 they got connected but after one second they disconnected. I tried again, and the same happened. I started to troubleshoot and  updated the BT driver (though it was updated) but nothing happened. Eventually I uninstalled the BT-device (Atheros). I downloaded the latest driver (again) från Acer website and reinstalled it. But now the BT device is no longer visible in the device manager or the start up screen...  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the correct (acccordning to acer support download) driver. No errors during installation. But I cannot get the unknown USB device to understand that it's a BT device. Even though it's an unknown device the computer doesn't promt this at start up. If I try to search for "new devices" it's not found. BT is forever lost on my Acer! Suggestions? RegardsJohn

In this case, check if you have selected speakers as the default playback device. To know how to do this, refer to the section "Ensure that Speakers are selected as the default playback device" in the link below:http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4080/~/what-do-i-do-when-i-have-no-sound-in-windows... If the issue still persists, reinstall sound device drivers and see if that works. To know how to do this, refer to the section "Reinstalling the sound device" on the above mentioned link. If the issue is still not resolved, you are advised to take your laptop to nearest Acer service center to check if there is any hardware issue. To do this, the following link can be useful:http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/service Hope this will help you.

Welcome to the Forum

Make sure mouse pad is still turned on.
On the older acer to turn on or off.
FN & F7 turns off the touch pad. Not sure if it is still the same.
http://en.kioskea.net/faq/1902-disable-enable-the-touchpad. This May not be applicable to your computer, but I think that it might be.

Go to search type device manager and make sure that the driver is up to date

hello, ive had an Acer Aspire L320 for quite a while now,

ive had it upgraded by a computer shop to make faster with some more ram and brought up the hard drive space to 320Gb and it was running fine till yesterday.

I believe an update removed the "HID-compliant touch screen" device from device manager, it has just disappeared entirely, i have tried working with usb generic device's drivers, its not listed in there, i have tried enabling the service for HID compliant device, no luck. I have tried going to acer's website for the driver for that model, it is not there. its like they stopped supporting it. help guys, i'm stuck. i need either that driver, a third-party touchscreen software, or something short of restoring it to earlier state.

Rebooted my machine and it went straight to e-recovery.2 options - I selected the option to restore to factory default.Sat and watched in awe as the system started to load a selection of pop******* image files from location D2D/IMAGES on the partition. However every time it fails on part 146, hangs then restarts the whole process of copying these again this happens 3 times then error message telling me it failed.I went to the partition PQSERVICE navigated to these files and part 146 was there and was the correct size etc, I am pretty dam stuck now as i cannot get the system restored.PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN

Answer:Acer e-recovery stopped working & is corrupt

Try to order the recovery DVD from Acer or buy a Windows install cd; whichever is cheaper.QuoteThe second cause : in this case hidden partition PQSERVICE was erased or damaged, or you replaced the disc and in this case it is not present. If you did not previously make a backup of your system by making an image disc. It will not be possible to use the D2D recovery. Your only hope will be to have in your possession Acer Recovery CD/DVD.End QuoteArticle Source: http://EzineArticles.com/794500Copying the files from the restore partition to another partition will tell you if the files are correct or the programming is correct. If the copy fails, you just found the problem.

Howdy,

My keyboard stopped working this morning.( I am using my laptop now) I checked the connection to my PC and it is fine. I rebooted but that was no help.

Just prior to the problem I would get a screen regarding Microsoft Narrator. The screen referenced settings from text to speech, etc;. I had no idea there was such a function in XP Home never mind turning it on.Apparently it is for those visually impaired. I tried to exit from the program several times but it would pop up every time I tried to type on the keyboard. I finally clicked on 'do not show this screen again'. Now I get nothing when I try to use the keyboard.

I am not sure if the above program is my problem or not.

Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: I figured out how to exit narrator. The keyboard still does not work.

Forgive a silly question, but have you tried a different keyboard? Or try the keyboard you have with a different system. Let's rule out the obvious first.

I am trying to help out a friend whose keyboard stops working as soon as Windows starts to load. She has a Desktop PC running Windows XP (not sure what SPs are installed, as I cannot get logged in). She is using a USB keyboard (no PS2 ports on the unit) which works in the BIOS, but as soon as Windows starts to load, none of the keys work. I have verified that the keyboard is working on another PC.

I had intended to use the on-screen keyboard to investigate the problem further, once Windows had loaded, but her account has a password and I cannot get past this screen without a keyboard!. Is it possible to by-pass the log in screen? Also any ideas about sorting out the keyboard problem if I can get into her account.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

This is really a doozie, I have a Dell Comp. and I am not real happy about that. Any way, I had a problem with my C D Burner so I called Dell it cost me 50 bucks to have them not fix it... I ended up buying a new Burner but before I did that the guy I was on the phone with had asked me if I wanted to purchase a extended warranty for a $150.00 I told him no, so he had me download this program that allows a Dell Assoc. to enter your computer and try to fix the problem well he couldn't fix it so I ordered a new one, and at this point my Key Board was working fine and had always been working with no problems what so ever. That night after being on the comp. and phone with the guy from Dell, I went to use my Key Board and nothing, I tried another key board and nothing, I tried my key board on another comp. and it works fine . I have tried to plug it in other USB ports and nothing. What really doesn't make sence is the key board works in the Bios. I called Dell and told them the whole story and they said it was a software issue and if I wanted to pay $140.00 they would fix it, I kind of told them where to go, cause it was working fine until there guy was all over in my comp.doing who knows what. I'm hoping some one knows what I can do without having to go through Dell. To anyone who cares about GOOD Customer Service then don't buy a Dell. Also if your wondering how I typed this I am using the key board in Accessibility in Win. XP not a bad option but not as good... Read more

About a week ago the keyboard on my fathers computer stopped working. First we replaced the keyboard, but that wasn't the problem. I have a Pavilion x2, which is a tablet that connects to a keyboard to turn into a laptop. The problem I'm having right now is that when I connect the tablet to the keyboard, it won't type anything. Pressing the space bar wakes the computer up and the trackpad still works, so it's not physically broken. It just won't type.

Restarting does nothing. There are no crumbs and I haven't spilled anything on it. It's not Sticky Keys. All the ticky boxes are unticked. Removing the tablet then putting it back works for a second - long enough to type one or two letters - but that's a really inefficient way to write a novel. I'm not running any background tasks, or doing anything but using Chrome. I can't do a system restore, which is a whole other problem I'll worry about later.

My trackpad also has become completely unresponsive. I am currently stuck using a borrowed USB keyboard and a USB mouse, can anyone help?

Goodday Gurus!!!

I have just started up my Sony vaio desktop. The keyboard works in bios, but when i access windows xp, it stops working. I plug it into another usb ports, while windows was adding in drivers such as the "USB Human Interface Device", the keyboard was working. After windows finishes adding in the drivers, the keyboard stopped working. My mouse is working though. I access device manager, systems. and I see that the USB Human Interface driver for the keyboard is there, but under the keyboard category, it doesn't show any keyboard installed. I tried another keyboard, same case. Anybody any ideas?

Oh one more thing, when i ran my ubuntu O/S, it works for the keyboard and mouse.

Hope to hear from someone!

Thanks!

Answer:Keyboard stopped working!

Is there a driver for the keyboard that you can download and install?
Is it a keyboard with lots of buttons on it?

In the meantime if you need to enter characters, XP has a virtual kybd:
C:\Windows\system32\osk.exe

You could try to uninstall the human interface device from device manager,
or also do a system restore to go back a few days before the problem started.

As of yesterday when I choose to boot XP the NumLock light goes out immediately and when the desktop appears the keyboard does not work (but the mouse is OK). Device Manager says the driver was loaded OK.
If I boot from Windows 7 the keyboard works perfectly so it's not a hardware problem.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
Many thanks.

Alright so I've tried almost every troubleshooting step out there and then some. I had this keyboard that started acting funny. First the Ctrl and Alt would stop working and randomay theyd work again. Well I've been wanting a new keyboard anyways and I figured the keyboard was at fault so I got a new awesome mechanical keyboard. Was told it was plug n play. Plugged it in, it did a cool light up feature and..nothing. it doesn't work. Restarted the computer and it works in bios and before windows 10 load up comes I can turn caps and num on and off but once windows starts I cant. So it's a functioning keyboard but it's not functioning in Windows. I check the port. All my usb ports work with all my devices. I've moved the keyboard to another port. Tried others since I have 5 or 6 boring usb keyboards. None work. I've done SFC /scannow and it pulls nothing up. I've Uninstalled the keyboard driver and restarted the computer and it would reinstall it but nothing. There's no yellow or red triangles near anything in device manager. All drivers are up to date. I've done everything. So now instead of mass Google searching, I'm making my own thread for once. Can someone help me please??

Dear all,
These (MJU7NHY6) keys in my laptop dell (Inspiron 11-3000 series) keyboard stopped working this May 13. They wouldn’t function unless pressed so hard. I bought laptop last year and it's new.
The onscreen keyboard is working fine. I updated the keyboards driver but it didn’t help. I’m not aware of any liquid that may have spilled over the keyboard. Maintenance shops where I'm seem they can’t help. Some said would give it a try and remove the keyboard to see if they can identify and solve the problem but said that there’s a chance it may screw up the whole keyboard. Please advise what to do. Enclosed is a snapshot of the keys in questions.
I appreciate your advice.

here's a snapshot of the keys in question:

Answer:keyboard stopped working

Hi, and welcome to TSF. It might be worth subbing another keyboard, but it's more likely just to rule the keyboard out as the problem. If you hit the "delete" key at boot, will the keyboard work in the bios? or will it not get you there? Alternately, you could try using a USB keyboard, but that may not work until enabled in the bios, which you might not be able to get access to. Try to access the bios though, and if "delete" don't get it, try the F-10 key, since we're dealing with a Compaq. If you can get to the bios, try setting the defaults, and save and exit. If the keyboard exhibits not problems at all accessing and navigating bios, then through the mouse, navigate to the device manager in windows, and delete the keyboard. Then rebooting should force a hardware detection, and restore the keyboard. This keyboard isn't wireless is it??????

This appears to be a device driver for your keyboard.

Look at this link: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-xp/915164-solved-keyboard-not-working-error.html

1. Unistall your keyboard.

2. Reboot.

Ok, I have some experience with computers but not lots so bear with me please; and help as much as you can.  I have a Toshiba laptop and I went to use it and the keyboard was no longer working.  I checked in the my computer section & it states keyboard is in working order.  The computer is about 2 years old and nothing happened to it from the last time I used it until now.I bought a usb keyboard to see if that would work and it does not either.  I took it to my computer person who lives a fair distance from me & upon quick troubleshooting thinks I may have done one of the windows updates and it corrupted it??  When the computer is booting up I clicked on F2 & F12 and then I am able to use my keyboard arrows to move around the screen whereas even those don't function at any other time when the computer fully boots up.  I brought my computer home to attempt to save anything I could by putting it on my hard drive.  The option the computer tech suggested was possibly reinstall XP in which case I would loose all my data.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
Running WinXP on a year old Gateway computer.
When I turned on my computer today, there was some sort of scanning going on? After it finished, my keyboard wouldn't work. The mouse worked, but not the keyboard. (usb). I couldn't sign on, so.. Thinking that the keyboard was just bad, I installed a new one (ps/2). It won't work either. I'm currently working from my "work" computer to figure this out. A few thing in the last few days that I don't know affect anything or not, but 1) Windows Defender "application failed to initialize" pops up at every startup. 2) Last time on the internet I had a 80 pop ups of the same pop up.
Tonight I did a system restore - after which "some componenets of ActiveShield are either missing or not installed properly" popped up; ran ad-aware - found 4 objects-deleted them; ran a virus scan - nothing found; Keyboard STILL not working. Keys do not work while windows is loading - can't get to BIOS.
I'e concluded that it's not the keyboards, nor the usb or ps/2 ports. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thank you in Advance!
Khent

Answer:keyboard stopped working

Did you hot-swap the keyboard? (That is, plugged the ps/2 keyboard in while the computer was running). ps/2 is not plug and play, you need to reboot the computer when you connect something to it.
The time window to access the BIOS is before windows starts loading. Are you sure you're not pressing the BIOS key too late? Maybe pressed the wrong key?
The BIOS is not windows related and does not use drivers. Keyboards not working at boot time are a much more serious problem than when they fail in windows.

The keyboard to my desktop PC no longer works or the mouse. I have tried the keyboard and mouse with my laptop and they both work fine. However, when plugged into the normal usb on the PC the keyboard shows no life i.e pressing the cap or number lock, no light shows. If I plug the mouse into the same usb slot it lights up but does not work and if I plug it back into the keyboard usb and the keyboard back into it's normal usb slot the light doesn't even come on. If the drivers need to be restored how can I do that without having a working keyboard or mouse? or is it going to be a hardware issue? Has anyone any suggestions?

Can you suggest what may be wrong?

Thank you.

Would your laptop work using any external usb mouse and keyboard?

Try to turn off the laptop and use the novo button ((item 3 page 11-12) to turn back on?
This would show a Novo Menu , try using the up and down arrow keys and highlight BIOS setup.
Press enter and press f9 to load defaults f10 to save and exit .
Would the keys respond?

Last night I was typing an e-mail and sent it. After that I wanted to go to a website, but it wouldn't let me. I couldn't type in any characters whatsoever. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and the three little lights flickered for a second on the top right of the keyboard, but then went black. I restarted the computer with it unplugged and then plugged it in, and it still didn't work.

I got my computer in 2002 as a graduation present and have never heard of a keyboard just stopping. So, I went and got an old keyboard from my family's house. It didn't work either.

My computer is a VPR Matrix 2250 and has only had one problem since I've gotten it and that is, it takes awhile to turn on, once it's stopped working. That problem started a little over a year ago, but now it's better for the most part.

The keyboard I have is a Logitech Corded Deluxe Access Keyboard. I've been looking to upgrade to a wireless one (Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 6000), so should I just do that, or is there any way to salvage the keyboard? The keyboard not working doesn't mean that my computer is starting to slowly die, does it?

My keyboard randomly started to freak out the other day. Originally I thought it was mouse related due to the webpage (Reddit) I was on was just zooming in so big that I couldn't read anything. It stopped doing that, and then I woke up to it acting like a key was pressed down. In particular, I looked at the calendar and it was zooming past the months. The keyboard also doesn't work at boot up, and has num lock enabled at boot for what it's worth. I actually have two of these keyboards (Microsoft Ergonomic 4000) and neither of them will work now. The one hadn't even been used yet. They both light up, and I've tried them on a ps/2 converter without luck. I'm not using a different USB keyboard that works both in USB and ps/2. Included are the logs for all the scanners that found any issues.

Not seeing anything much to do except:

Re run Hitman and have it delete Potential Unwanted Programs.

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
The tool will open and start scanning your system.
Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

This is probably in the wrong location. I could not find a Laptop area for R7 or just a general Laptop.Anyway. I am running Windows 10, never had a problem with the touch screen until recently. The "Basic Information" screen says I have no pen or touch input is available.....not true. this is a touch screen. I've used it consistantly, and without problems. I don't know what to try to fix the issue. I read somewhere that it might be a "power management setting" I tried to see if it was, I opened the Properties on each of my 3 "HID-compliant vendor-defined device" to see if there was a power management option. One did have it, but it was greyed out and unchecked. Can change anything there. I tried removing all the "HID-compliant vendor-defined device" and they reinstalled on startup, but no touchscreen.I'm wondering if the latest Windows update wiped the touchscreen out!!! Please can someone help? The touchscreen just stopped working all of the sudden and this did not coincide with any updates or changes to the computer. I am furious about this as I rely heavily on this touchscreen for some of my school projects. I called Acer tech support and was rerouted to their useless third party support who guaranteed they knew what was wrong and how to fix it, but would only tell me if I gave them $99. What a complete scam. I can't believe Acer doesn't stand behind their products and offer free phone support or online chat. There is a high probability that this is a hardware issue. As your laptop is still under warranty, you are advised to contact nearest Acer service center by using the following link for further assistance:http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/service Hope this will help you.

Hello friends.

This is the first time this has ever happened so, I'm quite stomped. Today, my Launch Manger stopped working. In the past, an uninstall and reinstall of the product fixed the issue when it rarely occurred (only times in the past 8 years) Today, however, I've ran the full gambit of assault on uninstalling and registry clearing. I used Revo Unistaller Pro to uninstall Launch Manager and used CCleaner to clear old registry strings and and still nothing! Each time I attempt to reinstall the program, it still doesn't work.

The OSDRC and OSDRC2 folders that normally house these image files:

are now completely empty:

I've tried simply copying and pasting the files over to no avail. There's something in the coding that's not calling the proper files to be used and I have not a clue on where the hiccup is. The [Fn] function key combos still work. The process just isn't using the visual image files as indicators.

Launch Manager is listed as a start-up item in CCleaner but, it does not point to a file that's supposed to be starting..

Task Manager does not list Launch Manager as a start-up item at all.

I checked to make certain Normal Startup was selected in msconfig and it was and that didn't help. Now I am completely lost.

Bump,

I'm beginning to suspect it's because I'm using Windows 8.1 & not Windows 7. I'm gonna test it in a VM soon. Any input would be truly appreciated.

My touchpad suddenly stopped working and I don't know what to do about it. I've beening looking around the web for tips and tricks but to avail. I tried Fn+F7 and various similar combinatins but they don't work. I also tried going into my mouse settings to see if it was disabled. It was enabled and said it was working just fine. I then decided to do a MBAM scan because I thought it could be a virus that is casuing the problem and no threats were detected. I then read that pressing F2 during start-up and enabling the touchpad through there is an option. I tried that and the option to enable touchpad wasn't on my laptop. Finally, I read that going back into windows 8 and doing some stuff with the BIOs could help, but this is a used laptop and apparnetly used to operate Windows 8 (can't confirm though) before I got it but I don't think I can change it back. The only temporary solution I have is using an extenral USB mouse, but I want to use my touchpad as well. Help, what do I do? Thanks in advance!

Today as I turned on my Aspire V3 laptop I found the system running extremely slow. Opening task manager I found RAM and Harddrive was almost running at 100%, then I checked it was McAfee scan that came with Pre-installation that is taking up all the resources. After about 10 minutes of running like this I decided to restart my computer. However after restart many system functions are no longer working. I can no longer access task manager. either CTRL+ALT+DEL or win-r wont bring it up. Tried MSCONFIG and again it wont start after I enter the keys. System restore similarly won't start after I click the bottons. There is no internet, clicking on device manager bottons won't bring up anything, driver update bottons similarly won't bring any response,  even reset to factory default botton won't work-was able to access the menu but when clicking on bottons nothing starts. - it seems as if the whole operating system is broke.  Since this McAfee program came with the Acer laptop (it literarily says McAfee Internet security -Acer on the program menu) was wondering if anyone from Acer knows about this issue and knows how to fix it. Thanks.

one night i left the laptop on because i was downloading sth ... in the morning the computer was turned off and when i tried to start the thing, it worked fine up until the screen that says "Starting Windows" (i have windows 7 btw) ... and i guess right before the desktop is supposed to show up i saw a blue screen for maybe half a second and the computer restarts by itself...well the same thing kept happening everytime i tried to start the laptop...after that i tried Safe Mode, Automatic Recovery Mode, Start at previous good config., and every other option that is available after pressing F5/F8 during startup ... since that did not work i booted the computer with my windows 7 cd and tried to reinstall the OS .... after i press "Install Windows" (or sth similar) it says "Loading setup" (or sth like that) and just stays that way --and trust me i waited long enough ... since that did not work out i got a windows XP cd and tried to install it ... it loads up well enough and rite before installation the blue screen appears again (but this time it just stays there) .... the only thing i can think of is maybe that last d/l i was talking about might have been a virus or sth .... and maybe i can resolve the problem if i could somehow load command prompt and format the hard drive (i have only one partition btw) ... i read somewhere that pressing "R" just when windows setup starts should take me to Recovery Console but that didnot seem to work ou... Answer:Acer aspire V3 laptop stopped working after McAfee...

Sounds like the reboot came up in safe mode. Try a shutdown, restart to see if it clears up. Rebooting while in something as intensive as a virus scan / repair is seldom safe. You should always let it continue until it's finished, even if inconvenient.

I was typing a paper for class and noticed my keyboard and trackpad mouse had just stopped working. I plugged my usb mouse in and it works fine. I ran trouble shooting and it says "Microsoft TeredoTunneling Adapter has a driver problem", and "Hardwear changes might not have been detected" I checked the keyboard for problems as well but the computer says it's working fine when it's not.

Answer:Keyboard stopped working on my B50-70 laptop

Hi Adamsla ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

I would assume that you're not able to log in to windows using the internal keyboard.
Would the problem be the same if you try to load to safe mode .

Knowing that external USB keyboard works ok. Best to check outside windows to check mechanically if BIOS would have the same issue ,

Just turn off the pc , remove the battery and ac adapter charger and press down the power button for 15 seconds,
Place bact both battery and ac adapter and use the Novo button (item3 page 10)  to turn on .
Novo menu would appear offering BIOS set up. ( Is the arrow key and enter button working ?)
Can you still proceed with the BIOS set up , press f9 to load defaults , F10 to save and exit.

If the keyboard failed on safe mode and BIOS , this needs hardware repair
You may check your warranty here  and call in tech support for the repair.

Hello everyone. I own a Compaq Presario CQ50-110US Notebook Computer and it seems as if the onboard keyboard/mouse have just suddenly stopped working. I have ofcourse tried rebooting and a rollback and it doesn't help. The keyboard and mouse will occasionally work and if I plug a USB Keyboard/mouse in then it all works fine. It's odd how it happened because I didn't really do anything or install anything new to my computer. On a related know around the same time my keyboard/mouse stopped working when I plug my USB keyboard in whenever I press "Caps" button my computer locks up for about 5 seconds, the more I press it the longer it stays locked up, I'm not sure if this has anything to do with my other issue but they did start happening at the same time. I haven't spilled anything on my onboard keyboard or dropped it or anything remotely like that. I just came back Christmas night and bam it wasn't working. Thank you for any help in advance!

I was playing a game on steam yesterday, and my keyboard stopped working all of the sudden. So I decided to turn it off and go back on later, but I had to turn it off during the game (I could not exit without using the keyboard). Later on, I turned it back on and the computer started as normal but the monitor was not receiving from the HDMI and the keyboard still wasn't working (mouse still works) I checked everything inside and the plugs are all tight and fine. I took out the ram sticks and put them back in, I tried unplugging the power cord and tried it the next morning and troubleshooted almost every part. I'm not sure how this happened, so if anyone has any advice help would be appreciated. Also, the computer shut off when I unplugged my printer USB from it. I bought it from cyberpowerpc if that makes any difference (their customer service is terrible).

Try booting into recovery mode to see if the keyboard works when the OS isn't yet loaded. If that works then maybe a quick power wash will clear it up.
