Help with Toshiba Satellite P35

Question: Help with Toshiba Satellite P35

Ok, I have been repairing and custom building computers since I was 13 I am now 21, and this

is just the strangest thing I have ever seen. I have a Toshiba Satellite P35-S6053 that I

received from a friend, he claimed that the only problem was that it wouldn't charge. I fixed

that problem real quick, he had it hooked up to a 12v 60W charger, this beast requires 19v

120w. So now I have the computer powering on, apparently when the computer stopped working

for him he was in the middle of a Windows XP upgrade, the disk was even still in the drive

when I got it. But the upgrade kept failing. I have tons of windows, Linux, and even osx86

disk's laying around, and this is where I started noticing problems. Ill just put them all in

list form.
1. Wont boot from a CD unless I remove the HDD(Boot priority is set wrong)

2. Wont let me enter bios setup(its like the F2 key doesn't work, I even tried a external

keyboard)

3. I CAN press F12 to enter boot list(but then it wont let me select anything, its like the

arrow keys then stop working)

4. I removed the HDD, booted windows setup, and reconnected the hdd as soon as it said "press

any key to boot from CD/DVD" I was able to navigate through the windows setup until I was

ready to install and it said "press enter to continue" it wouldn't let me press enter. BUT if

I press F3 to quit the setup I tells me to wait 30 Seconds OR press enter to restart now, and

at that point I can press enter to abort the install.

5. I placed the HDD into another computer, installed windows on it from there, put the HDD

back into the computer, and when I go to boot windows I get to the screen where it says

"Windows is loading files" and it has the grey loading bar. But it only makes it about 75%

and the computer restarts.
I am at a complete loss, I have never experienced anything like this before, I have tried

re-flashing the bios, and replacing the ram(didn't think the ram thing would work but I was

worth a shot). At this point I have no clue what to do. The next thing I'm going to try is to

boot from a ubuntu live CD, but even if I can get it to boot it still really wont fix my

problem.
I have a Windows 7 desktop and a macbookPro at my disposal to aid in me fixing this. (well

technically the macbookPro is a Acer aspire 5920 that I have natively running leopard 10.5.8,

but its just as good as the real deal.) And as soon as I can fix the DC jack on my old

gateway notebook I will have that too. I mention this because maybe there is some swapping of

parts I can do, or maybe a network boot. ( note I have never done a network boot in my life,

but if someone could walk me through it maybe it could work.)
Please there has got to be someone out there who could help me with this, This laptop is a

beast and I would love to get it working again.

Alright!!! I fixed it. After disassembling the computer i found the CMOS battery and De-soldered it and soldered it back on after about 10 minutes. That completely reset the bios, all of the problems still existed except with the bios reset to factory default i was able to boot a CD. I went to boot a Linux live CD and got a error message reading "CD/DVD boot enabled please release shift key to continue". After seeing that i connected a usb Keyboard, still no luck. Then it just hit me...I removed the laptops keyboard, and now all if fine. The shift key is not stuck, as a matter of fact the KB looks almost new, but there is a weird bend in the ribbon cable and i believe it was shorting out.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Toshiba satellite P300 (-1CD) won't boot past toshiba splash screen.

Hello,

Perform the following steps:
-Remove the battery and Power adapter
-Press and hold the power button for 30-45 seconds (with battery and power still removed)
-Insert just the battery and attempt to boot the laptop.
-Insert just the power adapter and attempt to boot the laptop.

If still unsuccessful: Remember to remove battery and power before removing/installing components

-Remove the power and battery
-Remove the hard drive from the laptop and attempt to boot with the battery installed. Do you receive any error message?
-Remove the memory modules from the laptop
-Insert just the battery and attempt to start the laptop (you should receive beep error)
-Try inserting just one module of memory and test (swapping modules after each attempt)
-Remove the optical drive and test.
-Try disconnecting the CMOS battery for a few minutes then re-connect and try.

Hi,
My laptop cannot tell me any post after the Toshiba logo just black screen. Cannot get into the bios or anything... These are the things I have tried:
Taken hard drive out,
Taken ram out and only tried one..
Taken Battery Cmos battery out for a few minutes..
Had a look at the motherboard and fan is not even working when I turn it on..
I have taken the cpu and put it back in..
Defiantly Sounds like the motherboard problem but want to know if its just a chip that needs to be replaced and soldered.. If anyone has any ideas that will be awesome.

Thanks

when using the above card, and TRENDnet TEW-311BRP WireLess Broadband Router, I cannot get a stable connection.

It always connect and disconnect me.

I use this machine and card all over the world: airports, hotels, offices and it works great.

I asked the dealer to replace the 311. Same problem.

However, if I stick TRENDnet PCMCIA card and disable the Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card, I connect w/o disconnections.

any idea?

Hi...

I had been using Toshiba A30 for a pretty long time but I had some serious problems and contacted local Customer Support Dept... But I thought it's better to contact Toshiba Europe or Toshiba Worldwire regarding my concern...

Thanks..

Answer:Satellite A30 Should I contact Toshiba Europe or Toshiba Worldwide?

Hi

What a strange question?.
If you have some problems with you notebook you have to contact the authorized service provider in your country.
The technicians should help you.
But listen; if your notebook is out of warranty (and I think it is) you will have to pay for the reparation!!

But what?s a problem with you unit???

Greetings, I am trying to update my Toshiba Satellite P50-C-11M through the Service Station, however an error occurs. Please note the laptop is roughly a week old only.

As I press install on the updates I get the following message: "The software update download operation failed. Reason: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {4991D34B-80A1-4291-83B6-3328366B9097}.

I tried the following solutions and nothing worked:
1. Updated the BIOS Independently from the Toshiba Europe Website.
2. Uninstalled the Service Station and reinstalled it again.

Thank you, and I hope this helps others too.

I'm trying to use my Toshiba recovery disk to erase everything and reboot the whole computer. when I put in the recovery disk in, it starts the process but then it says NTLDR is missing and wont complete the process. Is there anyone out there who knows what this means and could help me with this.

Hello,
My friend's in the market for a new computer; for various reasons, it looks like Toshiba will be the brand of choice.
(foremost among them being local-area service/support in Indonesia, where she'll be for 3+ years).
That said, the only Toshibas that we've been able to get some hands-on 'look and feel' sessions with were
the Satellites (i.e. the entry-level machines); they were... OK... the build quality felt... well, retail-ish =p
Anyone have experience with the next tier up, the Satellite Pro models?
Presumably the build quality is at least on par with the Satellites; any better? Appreciablly better, that is?
If simply on par, she may as well get a Satellite and take her chances...
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

I didn't find the right solution from the internet.

The laptop only has sound when I run the Toshiba PC diagnostic Tool.

When I play anything from the internet or put a DVD or CD in there is no sound. The DVD plays and shows the movie, but no sound.

I have gone completely thru and made sure every sound control is turned on to maximum.

I have ran the trouble shooters.

I have gone onto Microsoft and ran all the fix its, tried querying the problem on the internet and tried everything I can find to try.

What am I doing wrong?

Drivers are updated.

Since you say your drivers are updated I assume there are no yellow exclamation marks under sound in Device Manager. In Device Manager, right click your DVD and CD and select properties. Make sure that enable digital CD audio is checked.

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A135 notebook. It has four USB ports that all do the same thing. Anything I plug into them it just says "device not recognized". I have made sure its not a driver OR software issue. Tech support tells me I have an issue with my systemboard. I have also even tried flashing my bios to a new version and still the same problem. My question is this!

I recently bought a PCMCIA card with 4 extra USB ports on it but it has to be powered by ONE usb cable. Will this card work? Even tho my ports don't recognize should it power the expansion card I'm about to install? Any suggestions? This is a nice notebook and I just need some USB support before I junk it. Thanks.

My question is does this laptop ave only one memory slot, cause i took off the panel to test the memory and all I see is one slot. It does not seem logical that they would place the other slot in a different location. Or am i totally wrong, and the other slot is just somewhere else. The reason i ask is because if i dont have to take apart the case, good. i usuall break things like this.

Its an adobe Elements software package, yet I cannot seem to load the instructions. UGH....Please kindly assist, or send a lonk I can follow.

Answer:Toshiba satellite C 75D DVD HELP

There is a button on the CD tray door. Just press it. You may need to restart the computer and then press the button when the computer starts so the computer isn't trying to read the disc. Or you can go to This PC and right click the CD/DVD drive and choose Eject. If all else fails there is a pin hole on the CD tray, push a straightened out paper clip into it to force open the tray.

Hi guys, iam brand new here so i hope this is where this goes...I have a toshiba satellite notebook that has something wrong with the driver. When i go to burn a dvd now or even a cd it tells me to attach an external drive, or the area where you choose which location to burn to is greyed out. I can't seem to look up the model number on the Toshiba website, the number on my receipt is A70wb200e, while the number i brought up using the system itself is mfwt020acp08. Any help would be great, thx!

Answer:Help please (Toshiba Satellite)

Hi and welcome. Look at the bottom of the laptop -- I think they put the model number there.

Also, did you get a user's manual, it should be listed there as well, and I do think that it's on the laptop too in a .pdf format.

Ok, I got a used laptop from work, always worked fine.

brought it home, and it worked fine. then all of the sudden it would get through the toshiba screen and go nowhere.

then the next day, it started up fine 2 times.

I tried to boot from the XP CD, and it does the whole blue screen thing until 'starting windows' then it just hangs up.

When I boot in safe mode, or attempt to, it gets stuck on system32\drivers\agp440.sys

any ideas?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite M35

Ok... well it seems to be royally f;ed up.

I attempted to install windows again, after booting up. So it could not delete the partition. I had to install over it and erase it. In the process, it ended up with an error and cant complete the install. So now it keeps hitting some error about text.

I did have a ghost boot disc, and now it wont even finish booting up to the ghost program, it just gets to an a: prompt.

Anyway to wipe out the HD with not much access to anything and start over?

Hey guys,

I need some help. My friend has brought her laptop to me as it no longer loads up to see if I can fix it. I have had a look on the Internet and I can't see anything that would realistically fix the machine. The machine is running Vista Basic.

This is the problem and I am hoping someone has a solution for me:

When switching on the machine the power light goes to green but nothing else happens. The disk light does not come on and the screen is completely blank. I can't load anything on the machine to try and get into safe mode, I have no way of getting into the Bios or anything as it just doesn't seem to be loading up. Now I have read alot recently about updates from Microsoft causing these types of issues and the "Black Screen of Death" and I don't know if that is the case here or if the screen is just broken. I did put the recovery disk in and the disk started spinning but I have no idea if it was working as I couldn't see anything on the screen.

I unfortunately don't have a space monitor to plug this into to see if the screen is just buggered but I honestly don't think it it, since there doesn't seem to be any disk activity either.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me to try? I would try and wipe it with a Vista disk I have but I don't know if that would work and want to try and save what is on the machine before I even try that.

Greetings, Kerry...

A few things you might consider trying, if you haven't already:

Since you can access the 'net, hit the Toshiba forums, see if anyone else has had similar problems...

Pull out the hard drive, RAM, and battery, make sure there's nothing foreign in the bays, and re-seat...

Make sure none of the fans are obstructed - some machines have fan fail-safes...

Try to boot from the Vista disk you mentioned, as a troubleshooting procedure...

Question: Toshiba Satellite

MY friend has a Toshiba Satellite A75-S209 laptop, the hard drive has died, I have found one online for him, but we have no recovery disk from Toshiba to install the OS on the new hard drive, question is where can I find one? If he has to buy Windows, he might as well buy a new laptop. Also how difficult is a hard drive installation in a laptop. I have done this in a desktop.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite

You might be able to order the Recovery discs from Toshiba for a small fee.

Most laptops now require the user to make their own discs when they purchase the system and the re is a recovery partition on the drive.

P.S. Windows is considerably cheaper then a new laptop. And you should have a Windows license number on the bottom of the laptop so the worse case scenrio is that you have to get a regular Windows CD, do an install and download all the drivers, but you'd lose some of the Toshiba pre-installed software.

I have a toshiba satellite 2545xcdt w/amd k6-2 333mhz, with 66fsb. was wondering what is the fastest cpu that i can replace it with?

Answer:toshiba satellite cpu

Well you need a laptop version of the CPU which is harder to find then a normal one. On top of that, K6-2 CPUs in general have become something of a rarity. & finally when you take into account the fact that laptop CPUs aren't meant to be swapped with newer ones, you'll notice you have a lot going against you.

If you insist on looking for one anyways, I guess you could pretty much take any K6-2 all the way to 500mhz & adjust it to a 66mhz FSB. The Socket CPUs before the Slot 1/A era did not have locked multipliers so you could play around with it & the FSB, provided the laptop's BIOS / Mainboard lets you do so.

Just bring the new chip down to the same speed as the old one & gradually raise the speed while keeping an eye on the temps. If your laptop was designed with a certain CPU speed in mind, it might not react very well with a faster, hotter chip.

I still think it might be a better idea to start saving for a newer laptop though.

PS. Welcome to TechSpot. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Hi,
I've been given a Toshiba Satellite M70 Laptop.. I've been given this laptop because the internal screen isn't working.. so wanting some opinions.

The screen lights up, but doesn't display a picture - instead just random vertical & horizontal lines. I think its probably going to be the LCD panel, I've reseated the cable at both ends but didn't make a difference.

Just wondering what other people think.. I just don't want to order a replacement panel if someone thinks it might be the mainboard for example.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite M70

Well, the first thing I would do is plug an external monitor to it and see what comes up. Toshibas have a diagnosis function that you can run if you hit F8 at startup. Choose the test and let see if it finds any problems with the onboard screen.

I only turn on and use my computer in the evening and have noticed my pc does not automatically make restore points, i think this is because of the time of day i use it, is there any [U]EASY[U]way i can change when these are made? I am not very computer literate so an easy explaination required!!

Answer:Toshiba satellite pro

System Restore points really only happen if there are software changes. Like Windows Update or installing a new program.

Question: Toshiba Satellite

The hard disk of my toshiba satellite series laptop crashed following an amateur attempt to partition the disk using 'Partition Magic'.

Since then, I have formatted the disk but am unable to get full use of the laptop since all the drivers are gone.

I got the Satellite A 60 'Recovery DVD Rom' but am unable to use it since the drive is unable to read DVDs (CDs are being read fine).

Where can I get all the drivers in one place, in preferably one file (dunno if thats possible!!) ?? Please help..

Answer:Toshiba Satellite

You might be able to find them at the Toshiba website - but I would try putting the DVD in another computer and look for the DVD driver. Then copy it to a floppy.

Hi, I joined today and thank anyone and everyone in advance for any help he/she can give me. Here is my first problem - with my laptop screen. A vertical red line on the right hand side of the screen suddenly appeared a few days back while I was online and will not go away. I tried changing the screen saver already. It's still under guarantee but I have no faith in the shop where I bought it (they told me to bring it back as it means serious screen problems) but as I'have just had some bad experiences when I returned other electronic equipment I'd like to check if anyone else has ever had this happen and what was the solution. Again, thank you!

Answer:toshiba satellite m60

test with vga out?

I had the same computer with the same problem, when i contacted toshiba support they gave me a local repair site and i brought it in, they tested it and replaced the screen in 2 days. The guy at the repair facility said all they did was to hook up an external monitor to verify it was indeed the screen and not the system and when they knew the problem was the screen they proceeded from there. If you have a vga monitor you can plug in and test it, if it is the screen it's one of the easiest fixes, so unless the shop you're dealing with is totally inept, or totally corrupt, it should be no problem

can we see the ipconfig /all - see below

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, Mcafee , AVG etc

Is your wireless security enabled - if so - log into the router and remove the wireless security - now see if it will connect - if it does - log back into the router and try the wireless security again

try a tcp/ip reset - see below

Question: Toshiba Satellite

Hi

I have just replaced the screen on my Toshiba Satellite U50D-A laptop myself as they as it was not covered under warranty.

Now when I power it on it comes up with PXE messages which indicate it is trying to boot from the LAN instead of the HDD.

HDD is the first boot device in the BIOS

Possibly the HDD was wiped when it was in for repair and therefore it cannot find a boot partition on it to boot from.

My initial questions are:

1. How can I tell if the HDD has a bootable partition on it?
2 How can I reload Windows 8 onto the HDD if I do not have a CD/DVD drive on the laptop?

Mant thanks for any help you can give me.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite

make sure your HDD is detected on the BIOS if not try to press del or f2 to go into bios then select your HDD as primary HDD press f10 to save changes,,try if you can boot it.. if not then you will have to re install your operating system via bootable flash drive.

Hi, i am writing on behalf of my brother to find out how i can clean the fans on his laptop. If anyone has any info on how to do this or any links with guiddes that would be great thanks.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A30

Stick hoover nozzle up against the air exit and set on mid-power. It should shift the worst of the dust.I might get ticked off for suggesting this, but when you can't easily remove bits to get inside, it's about the best option. The expensive option is to take it to a laptop service engineer who can probably strip it down to get to the fans.

hey guys! well, a few weeks ago my laptop stopped working (The one in the title) I obviously was depressed because I have a lot of things on my laptop. The problem is that I get to the boot screen, where it allows me to go into safe mode, start windows normally etc etc. Then it will do the countdown 'til it starts windows normally. but, as soon as I hit Enter, or the countdown is done, it freezes on that screen. I tried editing my BIOs, maybe there is more I can do in there, not
completely sure. I blew into the vents and tried to blow out any dust. I opened some of the computer, and sprayed some aerosol to clear out any dust on w.e I did open. ( I couldn't figure out how to open the whole bottom/back of the computer ) I also tried using the recovery disc, but it is not recognizing the disc drive. By this, I mean that it is not loading anything from the disc drive. I also tried to install another operating system (Mandriva Linux, DSL, and Ubuntu Linux) All help will be appreciated,
Thanks,
-CJP

P.S. If someone can help me with also opening the whole laptop that may help as well.

A while back someone brought me a computer to try and get into it. It's a Toshiba Satellite A505. She had been sick and not used it for about 6 mo. When she tried to get into it she had forgotten the Toshiba password to get into it (not the Windows Administrator password). She had tried numerous times with different things she had used before on things. Since you must take the computer completely apart and remove the motherboard to get to the battery, which is soldered on the bottom of the board, I couldn't remove and try that as I usually would do. I talked to a couple computer shops and they wanted around $150.00 to do all that. Where I am now with it is I have tried 2 other motherboards in it and neither of them has any video. It powers on and that's all I get.
I would be very appreciative of any suggestions.

laptops can be quite difficult to replace components without problems - where did you get the two motherboards from ? are they the exact model and revision

usually windows software OEM is locked to the motherboard - so you will need to also purchase another license for the software.

Hi Gang

I have my neighbors Lap Top a Toshiba Satellite P205-S7469. She was in the middle of an e-mail and the screen froze up, she shut it down and turned it back on and now it will go through the Toshiba Intro, and goes to a blank screen. The cursor will still move so it is not froze up. I have tried the repair and it goes through that and says everything is ok, ha ha ha I tried to do a restore and it will not let me do that. It will not do anything in safe mod either. You click on safe mode and it goes to the blank screen and sits there. I have tried a recovery disk and that does not thing.

It acts like the boot sector is bad. and ideas.? She has a lot of pictures and bank stuff on the HD, so I don't want to lose that.

We have a toshiba satellite L305-S5893. It was working fine and I used to the shut down option to restart the computer. After that it never restarted. It says toshiba innovation and then black screens. Eventually it says what operating system would you like to start and lists vista. After doing that it says a system32 file is corrupt or missing and cannot start windows. We do not have the windows starting disk and I cant get into safe mode. The only thing I can get into is the setup utility manager. Can I download this file somewhere or how else can I get to safe mode? I think its vista 32 but not positive.

Answer:Help with Toshiba Satellite

After other options are exhausted, if you find any, you can try to go back to factory specs. You will lose all your programs, etc, but you can reload them.

I'm trying to install Windows Vista RC1 (32-bit version) on a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4064. Toshiba satellite c55-a running windows 8.1 crashed. A room mate wiped the hard drive while I was out of the room. Then, a computer geek - friend of a friend - installed windows xp pro 32 bit instead of the windows 8.1 64 bit now, i can't install windows 8.1 64 bit nor will xp allow me to access the bios...what can i do to get rid of xp so I can install the 8.1?

Answer:how do I uninstall xp pro from my toshiba satellite c55-a?

Normally you'd just boot from the OS disk or restore partition, delete the existing installation and then do a fresh install. In your reinstall attempts are you using disks or restore partition?Make sure you're accessing the bios correctly. I know some of the computers that came with 8 had a bios that was kind of locked to it but I would still think you could access it since that's a procedure you'd do before the OS starts to load.If XP is causing a problem with the reinstall of 8 at worst you may need to replace the hard drive but wait for others with more familiarity with that laptop and window 8's idiosyncrasies to post in.Don't forget to preorder your Hatch green chili for this fall. Many vendors ship world-wide. Better hurry. They're picking and shipping now.message edited by DAVEINCAPS

I have just installed Windows 7 and according to the device manager i am missing drivers for the following;
Ethernet driver, CD Rom Driver driver, Network Controller, PCI Simple Communications Controller, SM Bus Controller, Universal Serial Bus and an unknown device.
I have been on the Toshiba website but without success.
All suggestions welcome!
Many thanks !

Answer:Drivers for Toshiba Satellite

What's the complete model number of that Toshiba Satellite laptop?
(2 sets of characters separated by a dash comprises the complete model number)

What Windows 7 version(Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate, etc.) and bit number(32, 64) did you install, and does it include Service Pack 1?

----------------------------------------------------------------

Before you install Windows 7 SP1, you should identify the primary devices(chipset, graphics, audio, wireless, ethernet, etc.) for that laptop and then download and save the drivers for them.
Once Windows 7 SP1 is installed, you should install the chipset driver before installing any other drivers.
That allows Windows 7 SP1 to properly detect and configure that laptop's devices.

You also should read and print off the Windows 7 SP1 install and update guide which is located in the "Windows 7" section.
If you follow it properly, it'll save you a lot of time and grief.

Greetings Forum!

A few days ago I purchased a Toshiba Satellite P35 S6292 notebook. Specs are 3.2 HT, 512 RAM, XP Home SP2, etc...

I've been tinkering with it for a few days now and have notice that it is VERY STICKY. Hyper Threading is touted as a boon for multitasking, but working in two applications (outlook with windows explorer for instance) at the same time makes it unbearably slow. It's definitely slower than my old 2.5 Gh. True that machine had 1 gig of RAM, but still...

I called tech support and they could not tell me anything other than check the BIOS to see whether Hyper Threading was enabled, diable my system tray items in MSCONFIG, and reinstall the Toshiba utility items. None of those suggestions made a difference.

Reading in the Toshiba Forum I found someone running an Intel Hyper Threading Utility that checks whether the comp is running HT. I did that and for chipset, the results came up "Chipset Test: Did not pass"

Does this mean my P35 is NOT Hyper Threading and Toshiba is falsely advertising?

When I look at my hardware monitor it seems that my RAM is hardly ever above 300mb's available. What could my problem be?

Sincerely,
Stephan

Answer:Toshiba Satellite P35 S6292

Toshiba recently alerted costomers of potentially bad memory modules in some 25 models of its notebooks, according to Maximum PC (Jan 05).

Toshiba has made a utility available to detect the error. You can find it at:
www.toshibadirect.com/utilityCEP

Consomers have until April 30, 2005, to obtain replacement modules.

Your model was not on the list, but it wouldn't hurt to check.

If you were not sure if its a HD that's causing your laptop to behave like that then its an ill adviced moved. But having to afford to buy one must made you think that consulting first maybe in the computer shop where you bought your HD is the best move concerning your laptop problem. Which means there might be no HD problem in the first place. And having to pay for the repair service might come cheaper than buying a HD.

In short my cat has decided that my laptop was his new bathroom and peed all over it.
I know the likely hood is that its killed pretty much everything, i'm just hoping that there is a way to fix be replacing parts such as motherboard to get it running again. Does anyone know if this is possible or am i looking at buying a new laptop all together ??

Hey all,

My friend has 2 Toshiba Satallite 1700/300 laptops that I might buy. He is selling them at 100 each or 170 for the pair.

Because it is so old, I cannot find any reliable specs or prices online.

I know that its quite slow, but this is what I will do with it:

@ home: I intend to syncronise it with my Packard-Bell PC and use as a monitor.

@ Work and traveling: I intend to use it for mobile internet access and word processing at work.

I would like a decentish laptop, but I haven't got a lot of dough at the moment.

Is it worth it to buy this, and if not, can anyone suggest a laptop in the same price zone because I am really strapped for cash at the moment. I'm only 14. lol.

Cheers,
DK444

Answer:Should I buy Toshiba Satellite 1700/300?

A quick google search tells me that those machines are 650mhz - 13.3 screen and 64mb RAM

100 pounds equates to somewhere around $185USD.

For comparison, I have purchased a few Dells in the past year that have a known MOBO failure for about $150USD each. Dell says they need new MOBOs, but I found a fix for them that requires a soldering iron, dremel and 10 minutes of time..These machines are 2.4ghz - 14.1 screen and hold up to 2GB RAM

If you do decide to pursue the satellites, check to see how upgradeable they are for memory. Thats going to be the deciding factor in running a newer OS smoothly.
For the record, I also keep one smaller, old laptop on hand. Its great for travel because it isn't the end of the world if it breaks or dies, and due to its size and weight, it makes a great iPod/Nav system for my truck when plugged into the aux jack of the stereo and my $20 usb GPS unit plugged in.

The specs on that machine are very similar to the satellites you are looking at.

If you don`t look HERE You have to know the model of your Satellite

then click on each of the links on that page until you see your model number.

Hi,
when i power my laptop, only the power led shows that it is on while there are no clicking sound or even the sound of the fan running.
Sometimes it would work for even a whole week then start to freeze before refusing to to power on.
I tried to unistall some programs which were not being used (i.e before it refused to power) but still the problems is there.
This problem started when i changed the charger, which the first one fell and refused to work, but i looked at the charger but it looks ok.
So I suspected the battery, which for the first time i removed and try to see if it is down which it was. and it worked but after that the problem continues even if i removed and boost the battery sometimes it works sometimes not. I guess battery is not the problem.

Please help.

Regards!

Hello everyone, I have a Toshiba Satellite P105-S6114 running XP. For the year that I've had it it has run great.  As of lately I haven't been able to use a CD in the DVD-R drive.  The CD tray opens, I put a CD into it, it tries to read it( I see the light turn on and hear the cd spin) but it just stops and won't recognize it.  I try to open it in "My Computer" but it just prompts me to insert a cd into the drive.  I don't know what happened in the past month to make this happen.  The catch is this.....  It will play a DVD just fine.  It recognizes it and plays it right away.  I updated the driver and even deleted the driver and started fresh.  Nothing worked. Has anyone ever heard of this?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Answer:Toshiba Satellite CD/DVD issue

Could be the particular CD you put in there. However, I once had a gateway laptop need a replacement Drive put in.  Maybe someone else has a better idea.

Hello,I have a toshiba satellite laptop and a few days ago the fan started coming on and I did notice some strange cpu spikes and 100 percent disk usage moments in the task manager but ran a speccy and everything looks good and the core temps are within reason. I do game and that is when the fan comes on and stays on until I log off but it also happens when I am surfing the net or even just playing spellit!Any ideas? I don't really fancy spending 60? to take it to a shop and leave it for 2 days. Thanks in advance. Attached is my laptop specs

Answer:Toshiba satellite fan issues

Have you taken canned air to your system to remove dust? Also a CPU spike is caused by a process or some sort, could it be your antivirus running in the background, a game updater or microsoft update in background, or worse malware? Do you have a good antivirus that is up to date and no detections of malware?I have a Toshiba Satellite and mine pumps out tons of heat, but the heat and CPU use goes to like 10% or less and lightly warm air when not gaming. Mine climbs up to around 63C and hovers there while gaming and then it drops down to about 37C when idle. Its been this way since I bought it new. Made the mistake the one day of hersey kisses on desk near laptop CPU/GPU heat vent. Went to grab one and it was instant mush wrapped in foil.

My husband was using his computer earlier and it was working fine. He has now lost the screen. Everything is loading up ok but the actual screen is not working Have you got any advice?

Answer:Toshiba satellite P200-144

The back light or the inverter may have gone. Press the Fn button with the F8 key and see if the screen lightens. If this is a no,Shine a torch onto the screen and see if you can see a dim display.Or connect an external monitor to the vga or svideo outlet at the rear. If the screen boots on the monitor it looks like a backlight fault. If it is this, hopefully it is still under warranty as it is a newish model.

:-? hiHow do you replace the CD/DVD drive in a Toshiba satellite? If have to open up the whole laptop are there any things I should look out for? Thanks

Answer:Replacing the CD/DVD in a Toshiba satellite

I'm not exactly the laptop expert, but I personally would be very cautious before opening up a laptop and playing around iwth the internals. Everything is pretty small, and it could be difficult to get back together if you were not completely sure with what you were doing.Course, having said that, I'd also be the first one to go and open it up anyways.

However I could not establish an internet conection to my own isp on it in order to activate the os online, I had to do that by phone. My other friend also can not establish an internet conection on his. His os is Win2K.Any advice would be gratefuly accepteted.

My daughter's laptop keeps freezing; I have used the internal `Repair' to set it back to the factory settings, but it is still the same. I have been told that it is a common symptom of a faulty hard drive, for which I was quoted approx £170.00 to replace and install the operating system. I am not a computer technician, but as I was a tv engineer, so feel that fitting a new HDD is within my capabilities, and as a replacement HDD from Toshiba is £80, this seems the logical thing to do; however before I buy a new HDD, can anyone tell me if it is correct that the freezing may be the result of it failing? I would just like the opinion of other people with computer knowledge before I spend my money, and I will not blame anyone if I choose to follow their advice and it doesn't cure the problem.
Any advice would be very welcome.
David

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Pro C660 - 1ux HDD

FReeezing PC

Overheat due to faulty / blocked fans
PSU voltages (not applicable to laptops)
Household power surges fridge etc switching on/off (does it freeze when running on battery only?)
faulty memory stick try memtest click here virus or spyware scan for both especially if shutting down with in a few minutes of switch on or internet use
driver conflicts especially graphics cards get the latest drivers for your equipment.

You can run a check on the drive. In explorer right click the drive select properties - Tools tab - check drive.
It may also freeze if there are a lot of windows open at the same time and cpu is at 100%
Or if there is not much spare space on the drive.
Model of toshiba laptop? Most hard drives ae easy to change as located under a cover on the base , some are harder to get at as may be under the keyboard. We can probably find a Youtube video or strip down instruction easy enough.
If it really is the drive then you an image the whole drive to an external drive using the free Macrium reflect make the rescue media from the same program - fit a new drive and restore the image to the new drive.

What are you trying to do.A System Restore or A Factory restore.
If a system restore have you tried in safe Mode.Just keep tapping F8 or F5 as the computer starts.
Some laptops have a restore to factory settings on them and it is Normally F10 or F11 you would try for that so not sure if it is that you are trying to get.

OMG it sucks! gain internet, lost internet, gain internet, lose internet. it's not my wireless access point, have two other people on the network, one connected physically, the other wirelessly. my lappy just pure outright sucks! any ideas on if this could possibly be a software issue that would not require me going to best buy or something to purchase a network card? or are these just notorious for having the worlds worst wireless solutions?
Honestly, it's gotten so bad that today I downloaded an app on my G1 that allows me to use the G1 as a tether, but it's dialup slow, can't run multiple windows/tabs or messenger services.

Don't know much about networking and stuff, but guessing it's software based because I'm using a Satellite laptop also and the connection is fine, wireless as well. Can't pinpoint what software though or if it really is .

My Toshiba A105 Satellite drag and drop feature of the mouse pad does not work correctly. If you double tap, you're able to drag, but it is extremely slow. Using the button + the pad does not work at all. I initially had it repaired by Geek Squad, but weeks later it returned to inop state.

Someone brought there laptop to me to see if I could do anything with it. It is a Toshiba Satellite L75D-A7283 running Windows 8.1. When I turn it on it comes to the password. When I put the password in it will take that and then it's a blank screen and nothing more. Does anyone have any suggestions short of using the recovery disks to reinstall? I removed the hard drive and took some photos off it for her.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite won't boot

Toshiba Satellite L75D-A7283 Laptop(PSKNJU-004001)

According to its detailed specifications section, it originally came with Windows 8 64-bit.

-----------------------------------------------------------

I personally have never used Windows 8/8.1, so I'm not familiar with how its log-in procedure works.

Was its owner having the same log-in issue?

My "B" Key has come off and I can't see any rhyme or reason how the darn thing attaches. I do not want to pry off one of the other keys to peek, because if that one does not give up the real clue, then I will l have TWO KEYS OFF..

Anyone got any digital pictures they could send me with a few clues how to reattach my key.

thanks,

Jim

Answer:TOSHIBA SATELLITE P35 Key Board KEY CAME OFF - H E L P !

Look into where the key used to be. Is there a post sticking up ?
Jf so, gentlely but firmly push the key down over the post.
The key should snap back onto the post.
If there is no post, then I believe its repair shop time.

Hi,

I can't find drivers for my computer model on Toshiba's site and I'm not sure about other sites and how safe they are. Is there any way I can find drivers for L635-12H?

I've searched on Toshiba's site also using the service tag, but it wasn't of too much use.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite L635-12H

I found some using this link from Toshiba,

Toshiba

Putting in this info,

Results in 34 items found.

Nothing very recent except a wireless driver.
